- 0:03SPEAKER_00: What is going on here?
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Must be honest, I'm sorry.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I'm on the wrong audio.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Man, that should do it.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Hello.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: We just wasted 12 seconds of our listeners' time.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, you're already recording?
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Because you weren't prepared.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I wasn't prepared and I should be, because I knew you were gonna call me today.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Right, because I call every day.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: That's kind of exactly.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: It's so great.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: What do you got for us today?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Well, right now I'm d changing a tire on a golf cart for the first time in my life.
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: But it's kind of like changing a tire on a car, it's just smaller.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they are.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the story though.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: My mom's got a golf cart and got she they're redoing the roof on her building.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And she ran over a nail and got a flat, and I called the the guy who does the golf cart maintenance, and I said, Hey man, can you get out there and change that tire or fix that tire?
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: He said, Yeah, I'll go Monday.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: That was last Friday.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: And then I saw my mom last night and I said, Did that guy come fix your tire?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And she said, No.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So I said, Okay.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: And I texted him, his wife texted back to say, Oh, he's been real busy, blah blah blah, without saying when he's gonna come or if he's gonna come.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And then I thought, geez, I can do it.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: You're you're gonna have to go, you're grown up.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I can do it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: So the thing that was dumb, the dumb thing.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Have you ever done a dumb thing?
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Never.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Well, I did a dumb thing.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: I got the tire iron and I didn't get the jack that I have.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: You know, the kind of like you slide it under, you pump it, it goes up real easy.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: It's nice, you know, hundred dollar jack or whatever.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So I get here and I take the tire and I'm starting to undo the tire.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: I'm like, oh shit, I gotta jack this up.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Well, my car's got a jack, like that, you know, comes with the car, but it's under, you know, it's underneath all my tools.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So I had to take all the tools out.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Then you got to take the tire out, and then there's this rusty old jack under there.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: But it did the trick, man.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: It got the it got the the golf cart up high enough for me to get this tire off, and that's where that's where I'm at now.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: I just had to put all the junk junk back in my car.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: And what kind of lesson can we learn from this?
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: A life lesson.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: Planning.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Planning thing.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: We're back to planning with you.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: We're back to the city.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I should have been like, what am I gonna need to change a tire?
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And the first you only need two things.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: You need a tire iron and you need a jack.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: And you need some um some planning.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: We as we've got well, that's the planning, is that you need the two things.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: And I just got one thing, but it's okay because I I just it just meant I had to take out all the tools and use a subpar jet rusty jack.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: But hey, it worked, and I'm on my way to the tire place now.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Let's let's feel let's let's as we do go back into history and um try to get to something interesting to talk about rather than tires and golf carts.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, okay, sorry.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: My grandpa branch always used to say, read the problem.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Ding bing bing.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: You have to read the problem.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Well, and I spend my life reading problems, you know.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I spend my life going, okay, let me think through this.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: How I'm gonna do it in my mind.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna do the job in my mind, you know.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm gonna need tape.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm gonna need a knife, oh, I'm gonna need a a whatever hammer.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna I'm going through my mind, and then I get everything I need.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: And and I will say 70, 20, 30 percent of the time, I've there's something that comes up that I didn't think of, but that's why I keep everything in my car that you can ever imagine.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: I've got wires, I've got anyway.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna tell you because I could the whole eight minutes could be me talking about everything in the car.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: What's what's what's something your grandparents used to say?
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Oh, my granny, as old Mima used to say, or whatever.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: My granny, who um I knew the best, my dad's mother, she lived in the house where I live now that we inherited.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: She she had all kinds of really great sayings, just like just old country sayings that she would say.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: I would I remember we were at her house, um, and I, you know, she would make me like a she had these frozen uh peppers, stuffed peppers, you know, that she would pull out and cook up for us.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: I say us because a lot of times Caroline would be there with me.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: And uh and then one time I was there and I was yawning, and then she said, I can see a tick on your liver.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we gotta do that.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: We gotta do eight minutes on just sayings that we grew up with.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't remember them all.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm my mind is deteriorating, you know.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: I don't remember some of the funny stuff she would say.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: Deteriorate.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: She was great.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: She actually um she got interviewed by one of my cousins uh for, I don't know, an hour or two on cassette tape, and she told stories about her childhood uh growing up um where they they were uh tobacco farmers.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: And uh she she told a lot of good stories about that, and and and and I actually did digitize that in my uh in another podcast I have called Satchcast.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: There's a at least two episodes where I play those tapes, but they're they're kind of hard to hear because it's a bad quality tape to begin with, and then I'm trying to play the tape on a podcast, but if I put my headphones on, I can I can really hear all the stories.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: They're really great.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Here's another here's another Sadieism that we use every day.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: There's we don't we don't we don't say that it's bad quality.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Sadie would say it's not well quality.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Not well quality, right?
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Or it's well quality, which is good quality, or not and we we we say quality a lot too because my mom always says when is that well?
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: We don't say well quality.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: We that's one of the things we do every almost every I mean again we don't say any other thing other than well quality.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: It's well quality.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Well we s we my mom when she buys stuff, she buys good stuff and she always calls it quality.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: So that's how we that's how we say it.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: It's quality stuff, yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: You know, but well quality is good too.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Well quality, yeah.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Uh so how's your how's your health?
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: We can't pack this open.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: It's we have we have to, it's seven we in 30 minutes we have to we're that much into it already?
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: You know what happened that was really great?
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: We talked for seven minutes about a golf cart.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Go.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: What happened?
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Um I talked to my son last night and he said he was listening to the podcast because it was eight minutes.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: It was a digestible right, you know.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: That's what we're gonna do.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Isn't that great?
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: But we gotta think of I gotta think of good things to say to our kids, you know, things that they're gonna help inspire them in life.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna start working on that.
