Latest / Lisa & Russell / Eric Bauza - The Voice Of Looney Tunes : There Was A Big Ka-Boom!!
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Coyote versus Acme, it had to happen eventually. He finally
- 0:03Speaker 1: takes them on. It's in cinemas now, just in time
- 0:06Speaker 1: for the school holidays, but hey, I'm going to have
- 0:10Speaker 1: to find a kid to take. Yeah, exactly. Eric Bowser
- 0:13Speaker 1: does pretty much most of the voices in this movie
- 0:15Speaker 1: and he's with us this morning. Good morning, Eric.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Morning, Eric. Good morning, Doc. How are you?
- 0:21Speaker 1: Very, very good. Eric, this movie has had a rollercoaster
- 0:25Speaker 1: journey to the big screen, but finally you've been able
- 0:29Speaker 1: to see audiences get to watch it.
- 0:31Speaker 2: It certainly has, and the best part about it is
- 0:33Speaker 2: you don't have to take a kid to see this movie.
- 0:36Speaker 2: You can just bring yourself. We were all kids.
- 0:39Speaker 1: At one point.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 0:40Speaker 3: We've all grown up with it.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I think so, and I feel like this movie speaks
- 0:44Speaker 2: to both The youngest and the oldest person in the
- 0:47Speaker 2: room without talking down to anybody. It's a very, very
- 0:51Speaker 2: smart movie, very well-written movie.
- 0:53Speaker 3: It's something that we've all grown up with. We've seen
- 0:57Speaker 3: the struggle for many a decade. Why has it taken
- 1:01Speaker 3: so long for Coyote to finally bring in the lawyers?
- 1:05Speaker 3: and take this sham of a company to where it
- 1:08Speaker 3: should be in the courtroom.
- 1:10Speaker 2: You know, I think he finally paid his cable bill
- 1:12Speaker 2: and saw the commercial. This day and age, I feel
- 1:16Speaker 2: like we've seen those billboard advertised lawyers and they've been
- 1:21Speaker 2: around for so long, but I never thought that cartoon
- 1:24Speaker 2: injury was up there as something that you could sue for.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You voice a stack of Looney Tunes characters in the film.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Is it hard to keep them all straight in your head?
- 1:35Speaker 2: I think it helps to be just a little loony.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Kind of have to be if you want to keep
- 1:40Speaker 2: track of these characters. Of course, these characters were originated
- 1:44Speaker 2: by the great Mel Blanc in the golden age of
- 1:46Speaker 2: animation alongside Chuck Jones, the director. But Mel Blanc was
- 1:51Speaker 2: the one that, you know, they showed him a picture
- 1:54Speaker 2: of Bugs Bunny and they said he was a scrappy
- 1:57Speaker 2: character from either Brooklyn or the Bronx. And so he
- 2:00Speaker 2: kind of put the two of them together and came
- 2:03Speaker 2: up with What's Up, Doc? And then showed him a
- 2:06Speaker 2: picture of Daffy and, you know, he's kind of a greedy, self-centered,
- 2:10Speaker 2: but crazy kind of duck. So he might, you know,
- 2:13Speaker 2: sound like he talks with a lisp. Ah, you're despicable.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Well, he would because his beak was around the back
- 2:20Speaker 3: end of his head half the time, every time he
- 2:22Speaker 3: got blown up.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Can't blame the guy for being a little cranky. And then,
- 2:26Speaker 2: of course, last but not least, you might have Porky
- 2:30Speaker 2: Pig who talks with a stutter. That's not all, folks.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I can only imagine that as a kid you probably
- 2:38Speaker 1: wandered around the house entertaining your family with these voices.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Did you ever in a million years think that you
- 2:44Speaker 1: would be the one to take up the legacy of
- 2:46Speaker 1: Mel Blanc?
- 2:47Speaker 2: Not at all. It's like winning the lottery. Not every
- 2:52Speaker 2: kid has that aspiration. I know I kind of secretly did.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I never really. told anybody, but I was clearly obsessed
- 2:59Speaker 2: with animation and cartoons. I draw as well. I cartoon.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And I always like making people laugh, and I think
- 3:06Speaker 2: that's where it comes from. But I think when you
- 3:09Speaker 2: have the ability to kind of change your voice and
- 3:12Speaker 2: kind of... My teachers always knew that I had that
- 3:17Speaker 2: class clown funny bone kind of, you know, making people
- 3:20Speaker 2: laugh thing. They said, if you get your work done
- 3:24Speaker 2: on time, then tomorrow... You could do those silly voices
- 3:28Speaker 2: over the PA system during the morning announcements.
- 3:30Speaker 1: What an incentive.
- 3:31Speaker 3: What an incentive.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I love it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I think directors used to say that to Jerry Lewis
- 3:36Speaker 1: when he.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Was making a movie.
- 3:38Speaker 1: If you film your scenes, then you can entertain everyone
- 3:42Speaker 1: for a while.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Eric, you do Bugs, you do Daffy, you do Porky,
- 3:45Speaker 3: you do Tweety, you do Marvin the Martian, you do
- 3:47Speaker 3: Foghorn Leghorn.
- 3:49Speaker 2: He's our favourite.
- 3:49Speaker 1: We love him. Foghorn's our favourite.
- 3:51Speaker 3: And we do Roadrunner, which consists of meep meep.
- 3:54Speaker 2: What's your favourite? Well, the first one you said, Marvin
- 3:57Speaker 2: the Martian, isn't that lovely? I do enjoy your show,
- 4:01Speaker 2: but it blocks my view of Venus. Therefore, I shall
- 4:04Speaker 2: have to tune it out. Yeah, I love Marvin the Martian.
- 4:08Speaker 2: He's oddly featured in the least amount of animated shorts
- 4:14Speaker 2: in the original run. Like, literally five Marvin cartoons, and
- 4:18Speaker 2: there's hundreds of everyone else.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Five?
- 4:21Speaker 2: He sells... He sells the most t-shirts. He sells the
- 4:24Speaker 2: most merchandise for some reason.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Wow.
- 4:26Speaker 2: He's that weird little alien with the Spartan helmet on.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Well, because you've got to have that catchphrase. It was
- 4:32Speaker 3: supposed to go kaboom.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Exactly. Where's the kaboom? Where... There was supposed to be
- 4:38Speaker 2: an earth-shattering kaboom. Hey, Doc, what are you doing over there? Oh,
- 4:43Speaker 2: I'm going to blow up the earth. The earth? Hey,
- 4:46Speaker 2: all my friends are up there. You can't do that.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I think on that earth-shattering kaboom note... We might have
- 4:54Speaker 1: to let you go. Coyote vs. Acme is in cinemas now.
- 4:58Speaker 1: It's about time that he took them on.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I say, listen, here, son, the lights are on, but
- 5:04Speaker 2: no one's home. Boghorn is definitely in this movie. In fact,
- 5:09Speaker 2: they should have put my name on the top billing.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Eric Bowser, thank you so much for entertaining us this morning.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Now I can say, that's all, folks.
