- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Conspiracy The Show with your hosts Adam Todd
- 0:16Speaker 1: Brown and Connor mcspatteren.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, welcome to Conspiracy The Show, a podcast about conspiracies.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Obviously I shouldn't have to explain that.
- 0:39Speaker 3: It seems so like explanatory.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it seems like you'd be able to figure it out.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm your host, Adam Todd Brown. Connor mcspadden was tossed
- 0:48Speaker 2: in the back of a van this morning. Someone threw
- 0:50Speaker 2: a bag over his head, zip tie around his hands,
- 0:53Speaker 2: threw him in the back of a van.
- 0:55Speaker 1: He'll turn up.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, the nature of the conspirac podcast business. Yeah,
- 1:01Speaker 2: you're playing with fire here. Yeah, sometimes your co host
- 1:04Speaker 2: is going to get black bagged by the CIA. You
- 1:07Speaker 2: just never know. But I have guests today. That was
- 1:09Speaker 2: Olivia Hydar. Oh, Hi, how's it going. I'm good?
- 1:12Speaker 3: How were you?
- 1:14Speaker 2: I'm so good. You've done this podcast before a couple
- 1:17Speaker 2: of times we've talked.
- 1:18Speaker 1: About what have we talked with?
- 1:20Speaker 3: Mostly aliens mostly honestly, the only time that I can
- 1:23Speaker 3: have fun talking about conspiracies.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we did. I think we did Project blue
- 1:29Speaker 2: Book at one.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, we did the We did a two parter on
- 1:33Speaker 3: sign in blue book.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, good times.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and also joining me first time guests, this is
- 1:38Speaker 2: your first time on the un Pops network. Call on,
- 1:43Speaker 2: that's me.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Thanks for having me.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Tell the people a little bit about yourself.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I am a person, that's right, that's about it. Lizard person, don't.
- 1:54Speaker 4: That wasn't supposed to come out yet. That's a later
- 1:56Speaker 4: a later episode. It's a it's a long game. I am.
- 2:01Speaker 4: My name is Grant, as he said, thank you, Adam.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I'm a writer here in Los Angeles, which means I
- 2:07Speaker 4: have a day job at Sony Pictures as a nut writer,
- 2:11Speaker 4: and I riding in the nighttime.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Nice.
- 2:13Speaker 4: So that's me in a very quick nutshell.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Well, thank you for being here. I appreciate it. What
- 2:19Speaker 2: is your overall experience or feelings toward conspiracy theories in general?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Are they a thing you're familiar with or.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Definitely familiar with. I would say I definitely trend skeptical
- 2:35Speaker 4: versus yeah, ready to believe everything. But I am a
- 2:41Speaker 4: fan of aliens in general and am a believer in
- 2:45Speaker 4: alien life as an idea. So I'm happy to be
- 2:49Speaker 4: here to talk about aliens.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like this particular topic it's not it's
- 2:55Speaker 2: a good episode for someone who's a little more skeptical. Yeah,
- 2:59Speaker 2: because we're not really getting into conspiracy theories. I mean,
- 3:02Speaker 2: the fact that aliens are real and are coming soon. Man,
- 3:07Speaker 2: I hope it soon. Yeah, I hope they're here. I know,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I hope they're listening.
- 3:12Speaker 1: To this like they're wasting their time in ten minutes.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Honestly, I hope, Like, I hope they're not here, because
- 3:20Speaker 3: that means that they're like intentions are peaceful, and that's boring.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I want them to come here and like turn us
- 3:26Speaker 3: all into liquid.
- 3:28Speaker 4: It doesn't, but why wouldn't you want to be friends
- 3:30Speaker 4: with an alien that sounds like super chill? I would
- 3:33Speaker 4: love to just.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Like, I mean, I guess it'd be fine. I just
- 3:35Speaker 3: kind of also just want our planet to end.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Well, in that case, sure, let them be hostile and
- 3:41Speaker 4: melt us all down.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah. And the fact that they're already here doesn't necessarily
- 3:47Speaker 2: mean they're peaceful. I guess there's like there's a there's
- 3:50Speaker 2: a theory that we signed a packed with an alien
- 3:54Speaker 2: civilization that's here on Earth in the seventies, Yeah, which
- 3:58Speaker 2: is a mean, like where's that move? There's I mean,
- 4:00Speaker 2: I remember sate documentary Men in Black in the nineties.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but that Johnny Cash.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Goes to the White House, Elvis at the White House, Like,
- 4:10Speaker 2: when is the fucking Aliens Meet with Nixon movie?
- 4:16Speaker 3: You were going to be proposing Johnny Cash versus the
- 4:19Speaker 3: aliens that came here?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Where's that?
- 4:21Speaker 2: I'm into it?
- 4:22Speaker 4: At the White House?
- 4:22Speaker 1: Where's that?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Can bring back walkuing Phoenix? But it feels like we
- 4:27Speaker 2: are at a point in history where the government really
- 4:30Speaker 2: wants us to know aliens are real.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Uh yeah, at least the nearest to that point that
- 4:37Speaker 3: we've been I.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Would agree with that. We uh, just this episode's coming
- 4:42Speaker 2: out next week, so as you're hearing this publicly. Last week,
- 4:47Speaker 2: we re released an episode that was Patreon only before,
- 4:51Speaker 2: which was about a twenty seventeen New York Times article
- 4:56Speaker 2: that this is kind of infamous now in that it
- 5:02Speaker 2: it almost read like the New York Times saying, yep,
- 5:07Speaker 2: UFOs sure are a thing, And we were just like,
- 5:12Speaker 2: come on, yeah, are they going to impeach Trump? We
- 5:15Speaker 2: got a lot on their plate. If not, you can
- 5:17Speaker 2: get right the fuck out of here with that.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Not the best year I guess to introduce actual alien
- 5:22Speaker 4: activity to us.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Right, or maybe the best. Yeah, that's if you just
- 5:26Speaker 3: don't want it to make an impact.
- 5:28Speaker 4: If you want to sweep it under the rug very quickly,
- 5:30Speaker 4: then yes, perfect timing. Maybe that was the intention, But
- 5:33Speaker 4: then why would the New York Times have done that.
- 5:35Speaker 4: That's almost like now we're in the conspiracy of Like
- 5:37Speaker 4: now the New York Times is on Trump's side and
- 5:39Speaker 4: they're just trying to like hide on this.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, I'm already.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah. I wrote a fucking medium article about how I
- 5:47Speaker 2: think Trump and the mainstream media are just friends.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Yeah, megie, you're best friends.
- 5:53Speaker 2: They're doing a fucking wrestling thing, like yeah, right, it's
- 5:56Speaker 2: pretty fabe. Yeah, but yeah, we're the reason we're talking
- 6:01Speaker 2: about this again. And the reason I released that old
- 6:05Speaker 2: Patreon episode to the public last week is it seems
- 6:08Speaker 2: like they're giving it another shot because just last month,
- 6:14Speaker 2: right near the end of May, there was another New
- 6:17Speaker 2: York Times article.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that was basically identical.
- 6:21Speaker 2: And now on top of that, this is an actual
- 6:24Speaker 2: headline from twenty nineteen. Trump senators briefed on UFO sightings.
- 6:31Speaker 4: All right, we're here twenty nineteen. We made it finally so.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Far, and that feels right, because it's twenty nineteen.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Of course the UFOs are here.
- 6:40Speaker 2: That's true.
- 6:41Speaker 3: That is true, it is the future.
- 6:42Speaker 2: But it feels like sort of the same thing is
- 6:45Speaker 2: happening with this article, where it's not really no one's
- 6:49Speaker 2: really going to give a shit.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, yeah, no, I mean it's I don't think
- 6:54Speaker 3: most people care about aliens in general, Like it's not
- 6:59Speaker 3: something that's their general like radar, that they think about
- 7:03Speaker 3: on the daily basis. There's so much else going on
- 7:06Speaker 3: in the world in our country.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like that. There's so many conspiracy theories and we
- 7:11Speaker 2: touch on one some of them next week, but conspiracy
- 7:15Speaker 2: theories about how the government is going to use like
- 7:20Speaker 2: a fake alien invasion to bring about some massive change
- 7:25Speaker 2: and they're going to pull a Watchman. Yeah, yeah, pretty much, Okay,
- 7:29Speaker 2: And it worked out great, Yeah, totally.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I think it actually it did.
- 7:34Speaker 2: If I remember Watchmen.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it kind of worked like it works for a
- 7:38Speaker 3: short time.
- 7:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it worked until the well spoiler.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Actually, I've never yeah, I've never read the sequel comics
- 7:44Speaker 3: to Watchmen.
- 7:46Speaker 4: I agree that it's not on the top of people's radar,
- 7:49Speaker 4: but I would I would think that most people just
- 7:51Speaker 4: kind of are waiting for, like the actual aliens to
- 7:54Speaker 4: show up, whatever form that takes, whether it is you
- 7:56Speaker 4: know that like quote unquote little green men, why don't
- 7:59Speaker 4: they got to be green, that's racist, or if it's
- 8:02Speaker 4: the little micro like bacteria kind of deal of like, oh,
- 8:06Speaker 4: we found life, but they're not obviously not threatening life.
- 8:10Speaker 4: I think people are just essentially because we've been very
- 8:12Speaker 4: desensitized to the idea of aliens over the past several decades.
- 8:15Speaker 4: I think people are just waiting for, like they want
- 8:17Speaker 4: to see the thing before they actually have a reaction
- 8:20Speaker 4: to it.
- 8:20Speaker 1: But what if the government is actively hiding the thing
- 8:23Speaker 1: from you?
- 8:24Speaker 2: Uh yeah, you know, that's a good question.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I guess, then how do you ever get to the
- 8:29Speaker 1: point where it's.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Okay, well, show me the evidence, right, because people get
- 8:33Speaker 2: so worked up about that part, like show me the evidence,
- 8:36Speaker 2: like we've kind of seen evidence. It's just there's weird.
- 8:41Speaker 2: A matter of whether you think every person who's ever
- 8:46Speaker 2: reported seeing something like this is crazy.
- 8:49Speaker 4: I don't think our government is so competent that it
- 8:52Speaker 4: would be able to hide it forever. I mean maybe
- 8:54Speaker 4: for now, I mean even for even a few decades,
- 8:58Speaker 4: like pre especially pre internet. You know, it'd be easier
- 9:00Speaker 4: to hide it. But like I think eventually someone's gonna
- 9:04Speaker 4: screw something up, and it's if it already exists, if
- 9:07Speaker 4: that information exists, or if we have already made contact,
- 9:09Speaker 4: someone will have hard evidence and we'll find out. I
- 9:12Speaker 4: think the government could hide it forever.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Dozens and dozens, maybe even hundreds of people have come
- 9:18Speaker 2: forward with evidence like that. It's just like every time
- 9:22Speaker 2: that's true, you see them on TV, we laugh at them, right, yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 2: we call them crazy. Yeah, a lot of times they are,
- 9:29Speaker 2: like the A lot of times they are.
- 9:31Speaker 3: But I mean, like I look, I think that there's
- 9:34Speaker 3: a lot of really weird shit, Like if you start
- 9:36Speaker 3: digging in to UFOs and sightings and like government constructions,
- 9:41Speaker 3: Like there's a lot of really weird shit that doesn't
- 9:44Speaker 3: have an easy explanation.
- 9:46Speaker 2: But there's still have been. There are crazy people, obviously,
- 9:51Speaker 2: but when it comes to cool damn this. This is
- 9:56Speaker 2: a lot of people. A lot of people argue this,
- 9:58Speaker 2: and I agree with the argue. Our government doesn't fight
- 10:03Speaker 2: individual stories. They don't try unless they absolutely have to.
- 10:09Speaker 2: What our government does and has been doing for decades,
- 10:12Speaker 2: is discrediting the entire notion of presenting a story that's
- 10:17Speaker 2: contrary to what the government said, to the point where
- 10:20Speaker 2: a lot of Americans both inherently distrust the government but
- 10:25Speaker 2: also hear the word conspiracy theory and go you're a
- 10:27Speaker 2: crazy person. It's like, well, how do you not trust
- 10:30Speaker 2: the government but also trust the government implicitly just because
- 10:35Speaker 2: you hear the word conspiracy, because a conspiracy is we
- 10:39Speaker 2: see those all the time totally. There's lots of real conspiracy.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Like the example I use all the time is police shootings.
- 10:47Speaker 2: We sometimes don't see that video for a few months,
- 10:50Speaker 2: and in the whole time, a lot of times the
- 10:52Speaker 2: police haven't really told us what was in that video.
- 10:56Speaker 2: That's a conspiracy that.
- 10:58Speaker 3: A group of people conspire, diede something.
- 11:01Speaker 2: So they happen and we know our government isn't. Like
- 11:05Speaker 2: mk Ultra is another one I bring up all the time,
- 11:08Speaker 2: like that we know that happened, We know records. They
- 11:12Speaker 2: for thirty years were so deep into the at the
- 11:18Speaker 2: time burgeoning psychiatry industry, Like they basically built psychiatry as
- 11:23Speaker 2: a government testing program and we only know it because
- 11:27Speaker 2: someone filed one like box of documents in the wrong building.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Otherwise they forever.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Like their excuse was, all right, we did it, but
- 11:37Speaker 2: it wasn't massive, Like to call it massive, that's a
- 11:41Speaker 2: bit of a stretch. And then we found these documents
- 11:43Speaker 2: and they were like it was pretty massive, all right,
- 11:46Speaker 2: So it was huge.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Yeah, we tried to brainwash a couple hundred soldiers.
- 11:52Speaker 2: A big deal.
- 11:54Speaker 4: You never miss them. But I guess that's the point though, right,
- 11:57Speaker 4: Like people are still kind of waiting on like the
- 11:59Speaker 4: big red stamped document that says classified or whatever with
- 12:03Speaker 4: the FBI letterhead, like, oh, we know aliens exist, and
- 12:06Speaker 4: here's all the evidence and here's where they're living. Kind
- 12:08Speaker 4: of a deal, you.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Know, yeah, And I feel like we're never going to get.
- 12:12Speaker 3: That, no, And like there have been so many government,
- 12:16Speaker 3: official government reports that are pointing in that direction, but
- 12:20Speaker 3: they don't get trid because I just don't think that
- 12:23Speaker 3: most people generally care unless it's actually unless there are
- 12:27Speaker 3: literally going to be aliens on TV or like in.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Their house or like whatever.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Like I don't think, Yeah, I don't think anyone gives
- 12:37Speaker 3: a shit that they exist.
- 12:39Speaker 2: And I should mention that's kind of the topic we're
- 12:42Speaker 2: talking about, Yeah, totally, is what happens when the aliens
- 12:45Speaker 2: get Yeah, but I've most of this has just been
- 12:47Speaker 2: to set up why we're back to talking about aliens
- 12:50Speaker 2: because there's another article like the one from October of
- 12:54Speaker 2: twenty seventeen. I'm always just.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Happy about it.
- 12:57Speaker 2: I like, I love all this stuff, and the gist
- 13:01Speaker 2: of it will put We've been putting links to all
- 13:04Speaker 2: our public episodes on all the reference links that we
- 13:07Speaker 2: talk about on on pops dot com, and we'll put
- 13:10Speaker 2: all of those for this episode up also. But basically
- 13:14Speaker 2: the gist of the article is the same. All these
- 13:16Speaker 2: navy pilots are reporting having seen UFOs as if it's
- 13:21Speaker 2: not weird that they're getting boats up it.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Yes, I mean, you know, but that's like the cree technology.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's just commonplace.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I tweeted that today.
- 13:29Speaker 4: It's pretty cute, I want to say, having rewatched again
- 13:35Speaker 4: the twenty seventeen video of the thing the UFO floating
- 13:40Speaker 4: around like shifting and stuff in the sky that the
- 13:42Speaker 4: plane is trackings, like has no idea what it is. Well,
- 13:44Speaker 4: I want to know why they don't have cameras with
- 13:47Speaker 4: color or like it has to radar camera, Like how
- 13:51Speaker 4: how hard could it be to just strap a regular
- 13:54Speaker 4: ass GoPro on the front of a plane or like
- 13:56Speaker 4: inside the cockpit. It's like, oh, now we kind of
- 13:58Speaker 4: can understand what we're looking at, Like can can you
- 14:00Speaker 4: see it with the naked eye? Even does it have
- 14:02Speaker 4: to be on you know?
- 14:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know anything about military protocol at all. Yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 3: like uh yeah, and like why they record the certain things? Uh,
- 14:13Speaker 3: it seems like it wouldn't be that hard.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. Even just like fucking HD camera
- 14:18Speaker 2: on that jet.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll take seven to twenty P. It doesn't even
- 14:21Speaker 4: have to be full lights, D four K anything.
- 14:23Speaker 3: I mean, you're telling me that Christopher Nolan was able
- 14:26Speaker 3: to shoot imax from a World War Two like fighter
- 14:30Speaker 3: plane Dunkirk, and we can't put like a little like
- 14:35Speaker 3: uh like redcam in the fucking cockpit.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Fucking love Dunkirk.
- 14:41Speaker 2: It's a good movie, really good. It's a really good
- 14:44Speaker 2: my favorite war movie.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I really like it a lot.
- 14:47Speaker 2: So the the other gist of this article is that
- 14:50Speaker 2: the government has been pumping millions of dollars into researching
- 14:53Speaker 2: UFOs for years now. We if you go back and
- 14:56Speaker 2: listen to that episode we released last week, we talk about.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It a bunch.
- 15:01Speaker 2: It's a program that was run by Harry Reid former
- 15:04Speaker 2: Senator Harry Reid, and Robert Bigelow.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Who is Mail.
- 15:09Speaker 2: He's I wish it was just that. He is the
- 15:12Speaker 2: the guy who's probably most active in constructing the crafts
- 15:18Speaker 2: that will take us to space, and also the founder
- 15:22Speaker 2: and CEO of the Budget Sweet's Motel Chain, which.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Man, I'm gonna stay at Budget.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Yeah, because I want I want some corner cutt And
- 15:30Speaker 2: when it comes to building my.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Space needs to know that my uh extended stay room
- 15:35Speaker 3: can be launched into orbit.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and that it will explode if it's hit with
- 15:39Speaker 2: a quarter inch piece of phone at the wrong angle.
- 15:42Speaker 4: But you'll be like moderately uncomfortable though instead of like
- 15:46Speaker 4: fully uncomfortable.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So it's inflatable too. It's a balloon.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Oh I thought you bit the beds.
- 15:54Speaker 2: The entire thing.
- 15:55Speaker 1: It's all a balloon. So yeah.
- 15:57Speaker 2: There's there's a a really famous conspiracy theory that alleges
- 16:01Speaker 2: that a lot of the alien and UFO related pop
- 16:05Speaker 2: culture stuff we see, like movies, TV shows, you know,
- 16:08Speaker 2: pop culture ever heard of it? I'm familiar a lot
- 16:12Speaker 2: of that, and then also these UFO sighting videos. It's
- 16:16Speaker 2: all a means of like softening humanity up for that
- 16:21Speaker 2: inevitable moment.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I've heard about this theory, and I.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Feel like, if that's true and this is part of
- 16:29Speaker 2: that plan, they were not expecting Trump to be president
- 16:33Speaker 2: when they were executing this part of the plan. Like,
- 16:36Speaker 2: I think we're all supposed to be panicking right now
- 16:39Speaker 2: and we are just not for the reason they want
- 16:41Speaker 2: us to be.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's but also like Trump being in office is
- 16:46Speaker 3: kind of a pretty effective anti UFO explainer for right now,
- 16:52Speaker 3: where it's like, yeah, that guy doesn't learn that UFOs
- 16:55Speaker 3: are in office and then not tell everyone in a
- 16:58Speaker 3: fucking Twitter thread, like not even a Twitter thread, like
- 17:01Speaker 3: a broken Twitter thread, three separate leats wor it's like.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Uh, these stupid fucking UFOs crush it. What they mentioned
- 17:12Speaker 2: in there's a pretty popular documentary called Unacknowledged that is
- 17:17Speaker 2: on Netflix now. Uh. One of the things they talk
- 17:20Speaker 2: about there is that it's possible that this is such
- 17:24Speaker 2: a high level plan that even if you're the president,
- 17:27Speaker 2: if you don't need to know, they're not gonna tell you. Yeah,
- 17:30Speaker 2: like your your your traditional checks and balances I don't
- 17:34Speaker 2: think apply to conspiracy theories.
- 17:37Speaker 3: No, But also I don't know, I feel like that
- 17:40Speaker 3: gets into like this sort of idea of the deep
- 17:44Speaker 3: state as a collection of people when I.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Think, welcome to conspiracy sho.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I know, but I'm just saying, like, I don't I
- 17:52Speaker 3: don't consider the deep state as being a like it's
- 17:55Speaker 3: more of a series of information handed down from person
- 18:00Speaker 3: to person and it makes its way through the president.
- 18:05Speaker 3: And yeah, like I feel like you, I feel like
- 18:07Speaker 3: the president would know that if whether or not if
- 18:11Speaker 3: if it comes up, I feel like maybe they might
- 18:13Speaker 3: not tell him, Like that.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Was a big thing in Independence Day.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I was gonna say, we forget the other nineties documentary
- 18:20Speaker 4: Independence Day.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Where the press where they have that whole conversation on
- 18:24Speaker 3: Air Force one and Bill Poule is like, I assure you,
- 18:28Speaker 3: there's no such thing as area fifty one. Actually yeah,
- 18:32Speaker 3: and then you got the like the little deepkit deep
- 18:35Speaker 3: state guy what his secretary of defense or whatever. But yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 3: like I don't know.
- 18:40Speaker 1: But there is an area fifty one.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, No, I mean, of course there's an area
- 18:44Speaker 3: fifty one. Yeah, I mean it's real.
- 18:46Speaker 2: If you if you want the really crazy conspiracy theory
- 18:49Speaker 2: version of this episode, listen to next Week, where we
- 18:53Speaker 2: speculate on why all of this might be happening.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I don't want to get into it. I want to
- 19:00Speaker 1: leave it as a cliffhanger.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Okay, but there are kind of prominent smart people who
- 19:06Speaker 2: theorize that we will hear from aliens at some point
- 19:11Speaker 2: in the near future.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Well, that's the whole thing about the Fermi paradox, isn't it,
- 19:15Speaker 3: Where it's like, why haven't we I mean, it's like,
- 19:18Speaker 3: as our technology grows greater and greater, it becomes easier
- 19:23Speaker 3: for us to find aliens, and it's weird that we
- 19:27Speaker 3: haven't heard from them, and maybe civilizations just die before
- 19:32Speaker 3: they can reach us.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Well there's the kind of, I guess, sort of a
- 19:37Speaker 2: counter to that where one of the people who suggests
- 19:41Speaker 2: that we will encounter alien life at some point is
- 19:45Speaker 2: mitchio Kaku, who is the pre eminent theoretical physicist in
- 19:50Speaker 2: the United States. He's like the pop physicist, He's like
- 19:52Speaker 2: the Bill Nye.
- 19:54Speaker 3: He writes all these books like what how do you
- 19:56Speaker 3: make Star Trek technology real?
- 19:58Speaker 2: And all that. Yeah, yeah, he's cool, And he theorizes
- 20:04Speaker 2: that we'll make contact with a civilization from another planet
- 20:09Speaker 2: at some point. But one of the things he points
- 20:11Speaker 2: out is we're going to have to figure out what
- 20:14Speaker 2: type of advanced civilization they are. In the sixties, there
- 20:18Speaker 2: was this Russian scientist named Nikolai Kardashiev, and he developed
- 20:25Speaker 2: a system in nineteen sixty four for measuring how advanced
- 20:28Speaker 2: a civilization is based on how they use their energy.
- 20:32Speaker 2: So level one means you can harness all the energy
- 20:36Speaker 2: of your home planet, Level two means you can harness
- 20:39Speaker 2: the energy of your planet and its parent star, and
- 20:43Speaker 2: level three means you can harness the energy of the
- 20:46Speaker 2: entire galaxy around you.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I like that you made this and we can't even
- 20:50Speaker 3: reach level one.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Yeah, the Earth is sort of level one.
- 20:56Speaker 2: We're not even keeping up with Kardashev. So if someone someone,
- 21:02Speaker 2: if someone gets here, they're gonna be so more advanced.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it have to be. And you know, they
- 21:08Speaker 1: could be working on it.
- 21:10Speaker 3: That'll always be the case, I feel.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Like, and they could already be here and the government
- 21:14Speaker 2: could just be hiding the evidence from us.
- 21:16Speaker 3: But then what motive I mean, yeah, I guess it
- 21:18Speaker 3: would be like, what would be their motive in staying secret?
- 21:22Speaker 3: Because if they're so advanced then they wouldn't have to
- 21:25Speaker 3: obey the government's orders to be seen because if.
- 21:27Speaker 1: They're here, they're here for a reason.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and cooperating with the government on Like, it could
- 21:33Speaker 2: just be a thing where, well, we're here, we need
- 21:35Speaker 2: these resources, we'll give you this, Yeah, in return, maybe
- 21:38Speaker 2: make it people kill us. Maybe they're why we have Trump.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Could be it could just be an intel gathering mission,
- 21:45Speaker 4: sort of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy style, where they're
- 21:48Speaker 4: just gonna decide that we're a non threat and then
- 21:51Speaker 4: blow the Earth up.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's tough to imagine someone coming to our planet
- 21:57Speaker 3: and thinking of humans as a nonsense, except except in
- 22:01Speaker 3: the idea of us not being able to last long
- 22:04Speaker 3: enough to make it up of our planet and urt anyone.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Else, right, which I think is also very possible. Oh yeah,
- 22:10Speaker 4: I just can't help but think about the distance that
- 22:13Speaker 4: an alien life force would have to travel to get here,
- 22:16Speaker 4: Like if they are tens of millions, Like, let's just
- 22:19Speaker 4: let's just say for fun, they're like a million light
- 22:22Speaker 4: years away, So then we wouldn't we still haven't been
- 22:25Speaker 4: around long enough for our signals to have reached their planet.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Like anything that we've been like our if they were
- 22:32Speaker 4: watching us with a telescope. We haven't been around long
- 22:35Speaker 4: enough for them to even see us really.
- 22:36Speaker 2: So then the thing about that argument is we're thinking
- 22:40Speaker 2: about it based on the technology we have available to us,
- 22:44Speaker 2: Like they could have the technology to get here, could
- 22:47Speaker 2: have come here and been like it's full of a
- 22:49Speaker 2: bunch of fucking zoo animals and they have nothing. Right,
- 22:52Speaker 2: we don't need them, and they could have left.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Like or maybe they've made humans.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Maybe it's a simulation.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Maybe maybe the world is the simulation.
- 23:03Speaker 1: That's I love that theory.
- 23:05Speaker 2: I mean I think it.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Seems the most logical explanation for the universe.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it explains everything.
- 23:12Speaker 3: There's a god exactly. That's why the Matrix is so great.
- 23:16Speaker 2: The Matrix. Yeah, that Matrix. We just did a list
- 23:19Speaker 2: dystopias we'd want to live in.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and I picked.
- 23:22Speaker 3: The Matrix because of the cipher speech where Joe Pants
- 23:25Speaker 3: is talking to his piece of steak like, I know
- 23:29Speaker 3: this is fake, but ignorance is bliss.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I get it.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll take that steak.
- 23:35Speaker 2: But the problem.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Yeah, the thing is, yeah, it's it's imperfect. It can't
- 23:39Speaker 3: be like nice. I would like the singularity, but everything
- 23:43Speaker 3: is fine inside. Yeah, yeah, where it's not nineteen ninety nine.
- 23:48Speaker 2: I just wanted to be some other time. So yeah,
- 23:51Speaker 2: that that is another possibility that if we do make
- 23:55Speaker 2: contact with an alien life form, which is going to
- 23:58Speaker 2: happen probably by way of like sending a signal or like,
- 24:03Speaker 2: there's all sorts of projects that are dedicated to looking.
- 24:07Speaker 1: For extraterrestrial life forms. Yeah.
- 24:10Speaker 2: SETI, which I thought was just one organization. Oh no,
- 24:15Speaker 2: it's actually just an acronym that means search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
- 24:19Speaker 2: And then there's all these different groups that have SETI
- 24:21Speaker 2: in their name, right, and then focus on different areas.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah, they've got there's like a chain of people across
- 24:28Speaker 3: the world, so that every pyramid scheme, yeah exactly. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:34Speaker 3: everyone has to send in a dollar, yeah, and set
- 24:36Speaker 3: up a radio.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Two galaxies under you, and then they add four more exactly.
- 24:42Speaker 3: But they've got to cover the entire sky at all times,
- 24:45Speaker 3: so then twenty four hours a day, then you've got
- 24:47Speaker 3: the whole sky covered, right. I learned that from the
- 24:50Speaker 3: movie Contact. It's great softening us up written by Carl Sagan.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Oh wow, yeah, you know that it's based in a
- 24:59Speaker 3: book by carl S.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Sagan. Great movie, very good movie.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah, the movie's good.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I love it.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Books good too. But yeah, and so we there's also
- 25:09Speaker 2: the matter of if we'd even be able to communicate
- 25:12Speaker 2: with them, right right?
- 25:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that seems that's what the rival is about and
- 25:16Speaker 3: in the movies.
- 25:17Speaker 2: And then there's the question of should we communicate with them? Yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I don't see it downside. I don't see it down
- 25:25Speaker 2: So the worst.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Thing that happens is they annihilate our entire species.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the whole thing. Like, then we all die.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Who cares?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Not only do we all die, but we die in
- 25:36Speaker 2: arguably one of the cool and like.
- 25:38Speaker 4: The best way.
- 25:39Speaker 3: We've made so many movies about how awesome it is
- 25:42Speaker 3: when we when people die like this.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm down. I'm all for it. Might as
- 25:47Speaker 2: well talk to him.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Nice and quick, I guess, Yeah, I don't know.
- 25:50Speaker 3: That's a slow moving fireball.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I actually don't want nice and quick, Like
- 25:55Speaker 2: I don't want like, is that a meteor? And then
- 25:58Speaker 2: it hits and I want an individual spider being to
- 26:03Speaker 2: like float down and.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Just that's kind of what some signs is where it's
- 26:07Speaker 3: like everyone is just kind of in their house and
- 26:10Speaker 3: then the aliens.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and for them individually.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I want it to be a home invasion.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Yeah, but wouldn't you rather watch someone else's home invasion
- 26:18Speaker 4: rather than like have your home invaded inevitably.
- 26:21Speaker 3: But like everyone's home is getting give Yeah, we're all
- 26:23Speaker 3: going down, But I'd.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Want to watch someone else first. At least I get
- 26:25Speaker 4: the the pleasure of watching it happen to someone. I
- 26:28Speaker 4: don't want to be first on the list.
- 26:30Speaker 2: That's part of it.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Like I'd like, you got the news, you're watching it
- 26:34Speaker 3: on the news, You're like, oh shit, look.
- 26:35Speaker 2: At that guy. Oh my god, whoa, whoa. I'd be
- 26:38Speaker 2: like part of the resistance, but the part that dies
- 26:41Speaker 2: first when they get to the mountain villages, Like I
- 26:44Speaker 2: get there and be like this is good enough. I've
- 26:47Speaker 2: lived an extra twenty days.
- 26:48Speaker 3: You'd be with that line of things from War of
- 26:51Speaker 3: the World that like goes over the hill and then
- 26:53Speaker 3: it's just the apocalypse on the other side.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be all right. Stephen Hawking is one
- 26:59Speaker 2: of the people.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a real pessimist. Yeah, or was a real
- 27:02Speaker 3: pessimist about it.
- 27:03Speaker 2: He is not confident that if we meet aliens one
- 27:07Speaker 2: that they're gonna give a shit about us at all.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I mean we'll be ants today.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Like there's literally we would be nothing to that.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Right, And he also uses the example of when Christopher
- 27:20Speaker 2: Columbus discovered America. Totally feel like that didn't It never
- 27:26Speaker 2: goes Well. I have a joke about people wanting to
- 27:28Speaker 2: go to Mars that's centered around that, like you don't
- 27:30Speaker 2: want to be first, Like why do you want to
- 27:32Speaker 2: be first? He's in your first Yeah, and then people
- 27:35Speaker 2: show up and genocide you and put up a Starbucks.
- 27:39Speaker 2: We've had this exact DISSI. Yes, I want to be
- 27:42Speaker 2: there after the genocide, right, I don't want to go
- 27:46Speaker 2: pre genocide.
- 27:47Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, that's fair.
- 27:53Speaker 4: Well, I think also from Stephen Hawkings argument of like
- 27:56Speaker 4: you don't want to be because what's the point I
- 27:58Speaker 4: guess if you don't make contact, they don't how would
- 28:01Speaker 4: they not know you're here already? Like if they're they'd
- 28:03Speaker 4: have to be that much more advance than this, they
- 28:04Speaker 4: wouldn't know we're here. So we just like hide behind
- 28:07Speaker 4: a bush, like they won't know that we're here and
- 28:10Speaker 4: not contacting them back like, yeah.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I feel like that would almost be more harmful to
- 28:15Speaker 2: humanity if we're just like cowering them. Well, no, then
- 28:19Speaker 2: even than them showing up to destroy us. If they
- 28:22Speaker 2: just send us a message and we're like we don't care. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 2: you mean nothing in the big scheme of things.
- 28:32Speaker 3: I think they would just assume that we don't have
- 28:34Speaker 3: the capacity to receive it.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I feel like the only way that
- 28:40Speaker 3: we could like hide is if we like construct some
- 28:43Speaker 3: sort of Faraday cage around the planet that blocks Like, right,
- 28:49Speaker 3: how how do you get this hide the fact that
- 28:51Speaker 3: there's a planet was seven billion people and all this
- 28:54Speaker 3: technology and shit on it.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Or maybe they've already told us and they're just up there,
- 28:59Speaker 2: like what do these fuck sticks not understand about a
- 29:02Speaker 2: crop circle? Says it right there. We don't give a ship,
- 29:05Speaker 2: We want a crop circle.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Man, Maybe we should have done something more complicated than
- 29:09Speaker 3: something that too drunk irishmen can do overnight.
- 29:15Speaker 2: The mountain.
- 29:16Speaker 4: I mean, if they're watching us, they should know that
- 29:18Speaker 4: we don't answer calls from unknown numbers.
- 29:21Speaker 2: That is true.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I definitely don't.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Yeah, no that I would under it could say alien
- 29:28Speaker 2: and I would answer it.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Yeah, if that's actually totally true, if it said an
- 29:33Speaker 3: alien is taking I'd be.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Like, okay, I will stop this podcast.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Honestly, if you're a debt collector, well done.
- 29:43Speaker 2: You figured me out. Yeah uh so Yeah. The the question,
- 29:50Speaker 2: how do we think people would react to aliens landing.
- 29:55Speaker 3: To aliens landing, or to verifiable like that's the thing,
- 30:01Speaker 3: concrete like video evidence of aliens existing.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Because when I was researching this, I came across a
- 30:08Speaker 2: bunch of articles that in their headlines imply survey shows
- 30:13Speaker 2: humans would be fine with discovering aliens, And it makes
- 30:16Speaker 2: it seem like they surveyed a vast, diverse array of
- 30:21Speaker 2: Americans and said, if a UFO was hurtling toward Earth,
- 30:25Speaker 2: how would you react? And most of us were like, yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 2: I'd be all right.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and that also assumes I mean, also people are
- 30:31Speaker 3: honest about their reaction, but like, yeah, they're all students
- 30:38Speaker 3: that they are interviewed, right.
- 30:40Speaker 2: No, it was a psychologist at Arizona State University, Michael Varnum,
- 30:46Speaker 2: and it was college educated white Americans. Yeah, mostly this
- 30:53Speaker 2: is the thing about And they were asked if how
- 30:58Speaker 2: they would react if we discover microbial life on Mars,
- 31:02Speaker 2: which is entirely different years.
- 31:05Speaker 3: I only really kind of care. But like, there's this
- 31:09Speaker 3: really great Twitter account called just says in mice. If
- 31:13Speaker 3: you've heard of it, it just says it just quote
- 31:16Speaker 3: tweets articles making a wild study that just and they
- 31:21Speaker 3: just say in mice, because all the studies are in mice.
- 31:25Speaker 3: And you could do that exact same thing for surveys,
- 31:29Speaker 3: where it just says in college students, it's just and
- 31:32Speaker 3: that is blanket for almost every survey.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is it's it's a very limited test group.
- 31:40Speaker 1: And yeah, it was just answering.
- 31:42Speaker 2: The question of how you feel about microbial life. Who
- 31:45Speaker 2: gives a shit? It's like, what are they?
- 31:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think to your point, if it's
- 31:49Speaker 4: just talking about, oh hey, aliens are here, then we
- 31:52Speaker 4: are already seeing how people react. We're not reacting. I
- 31:55Speaker 4: think we have hard evidence that you know, that would
- 31:58Speaker 4: connect with people, like we have the thing in front
- 32:01Speaker 4: of us. I still think you have like a belt
- 32:02Speaker 4: curve of people, like a lot of people if they
- 32:05Speaker 4: unless they're like actively being pursued and about to be genocided,
- 32:09Speaker 4: then the middle of the belt curves like okay, fine, whatever,
- 32:12Speaker 4: Like that's that's pretty neat, Like I hope I meet
- 32:14Speaker 4: once someday, and then you have like the crazy people
- 32:16Speaker 4: on one side and the crazy people on the other
- 32:17Speaker 4: side who are like, ah, we got to kill them,
- 32:19Speaker 4: 're like we have to submit to them. So yeah, people,
- 32:22Speaker 4: people are pretty I mean, despite the fact that this
- 32:24Speaker 4: is a survey of college educated white bros. I think
- 32:28Speaker 4: people are buying large like kind of predictable.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but there is we have in the notes one
- 32:35Speaker 2: particular demographic that I think their their reaction might be
- 32:39Speaker 2: a little different. Yeah, And this is something I think
- 32:41Speaker 2: about it a lot religious people, right, because at that point,
- 32:45Speaker 2: I don't know if the religions that we tend to
- 32:49Speaker 2: observe on Earth allow room for aliens.
- 32:53Speaker 3: I mean, not explicitly.
- 32:55Speaker 2: I'm sure you would have.
- 32:56Speaker 3: The thing is you would have this is something that
- 32:58Speaker 3: contact is really could have been, is you would have
- 33:02Speaker 3: sets of religions who crop up being like these people
- 33:07Speaker 3: are messengers of God and they bring us more knowledge,
- 33:11Speaker 3: and you have people who are like, no, this is
- 33:14Speaker 3: a false prophet, these are the devil. I mean, it
- 33:17Speaker 3: would splinter off right into all like not even according
- 33:21Speaker 3: to major religions. It would just be like blanket across
- 33:26Speaker 3: all of them.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Well, if in that version of the conspiracy theory where
- 33:31Speaker 2: someone stages an alien attack on Earth to I think
- 33:35Speaker 2: the aim being to kind of form a one world
- 33:38Speaker 2: government sort of thing. In most of the versions of
- 33:42Speaker 2: that conspiracy theory I've read, the way it starts is
- 33:46Speaker 2: not only is there an alien invasion but or a
- 33:50Speaker 2: UFO invasion, but there's also a technology that's able to
- 33:55Speaker 2: kind of broadcast an image in the sky that can
- 33:58Speaker 2: be seen anywhere around the world, and that image is
- 34:01Speaker 2: going to be the face of the leader of this
- 34:06Speaker 2: new way of thinking, who is going to in the
- 34:09Speaker 2: sky display all of these images that basically destroy all
- 34:14Speaker 2: the world's religions and prove them to be not true.
- 34:18Speaker 2: And that image in the sky will be presenting humanity
- 34:21Speaker 2: with what is allegedly this enlightened way of being that's
- 34:26Speaker 2: really just the new world order I've been Alex Jones.
- 34:31Speaker 3: I don't think that there is a single like or
- 34:34Speaker 3: even a collection of images that could be broadcast on
- 34:37Speaker 3: the sky. Well, we know there can't be now, well no,
- 34:39Speaker 3: but I just I just mean, I don't think there
- 34:41Speaker 3: would ever be a like anything like that that could
- 34:45Speaker 3: possibly destroy the idea of all religions. Like I just
- 34:49Speaker 3: don't think like they're like if especially if you're like
- 34:53Speaker 3: hardcore religious, then you have already built up walls in
- 34:58Speaker 3: your mind to block off things that deny your belief,
- 35:01Speaker 3: and I think it's not going to be super hard
- 35:04Speaker 3: to overlook something like that. I think what might be
- 35:07Speaker 3: interesting is, you know, something that gets thrown out a
- 35:11Speaker 3: lot or I mean not really talked about as much
- 35:14Speaker 3: when it comes to like aliens coming is them having
- 35:17Speaker 3: their own religion and like being religious beings who believe
- 35:21Speaker 3: in a thing that we would call God and having
- 35:26Speaker 3: their own religious texts that even are seem to confirm
- 35:31Speaker 3: things that have like are said in other major religious texts,
- 35:34Speaker 3: maybe even things seem to confirm things that are said
- 35:37Speaker 3: in all of the major religious text Like there's all
- 35:40Speaker 3: of these possibilities when it comes if.
- 35:42Speaker 2: It's all just the most fundamentalist conservative shit, I mean
- 35:46Speaker 2: they're like you should have been cutting off hands, this
- 35:48Speaker 2: is what I'm saying.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Yeah, but like that who knows, Like that's like I
- 35:51Speaker 3: think I think that's like an X factor that is
- 35:55Speaker 3: hard to even like reckon with of like how are
- 35:58Speaker 3: you how are you ever going to prepare for or
- 36:00Speaker 3: aliens who have superior knowledge, Like say they come in
- 36:04Speaker 3: they say that they have like the real Bible.
- 36:08Speaker 2: It's like it.
- 36:09Speaker 3: You know, you've got the Bible that was made for
- 36:12Speaker 3: monkeys basically, and here's the real thing. It's the Third
- 36:16Speaker 3: you know, it's a Third Testament or whatever.
- 36:18Speaker 2: It's gonna have a huge fucking user agreement we have
- 36:22Speaker 2: exactly agree to.
- 36:24Speaker 4: It only takes ten thousand years to read and agree
- 36:26Speaker 4: to exactly.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Yeah, gets updated every three weeks. God damn it.
- 36:33Speaker 3: But yeah, I think I think the religious question is
- 36:35Speaker 3: a big factor in how the planet reacts and how
- 36:40Speaker 3: humanity reacts.
- 36:41Speaker 4: I agree, And I think it's interesting also that people
- 36:43Speaker 4: when we think of aliens, we always seem to think
- 36:45Speaker 4: of like we we sort of personify them, where we
- 36:49Speaker 4: anthropomorphize them like they are they are thinking beings and
- 36:52Speaker 4: they want to communicate with us. The last tuff. We
- 36:53Speaker 4: never seem to think about, Oh, they probably have religious
- 36:56Speaker 4: beliefs the same way that we do. They believe in
- 36:58Speaker 4: some higher power, Like what if Earth is their Jerusalem,
- 37:01Speaker 4: and like they're coming here to crusade all of us,
- 37:03Speaker 4: and that would be a good reason, that'd be good
- 37:05Speaker 4: enough reason for them to wipe us all out.
- 37:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, if Jerusalem is the birthplace of God
- 37:13Speaker 3: basically or you know, not ruthplace, but you know what
- 37:17Speaker 3: I'm saying, right, if that is like the holiest spot
- 37:20Speaker 3: in the universe, did we could have fucking alien pilgrims
- 37:24Speaker 3: who have also heard of Jerusalem coming all the way
- 37:27Speaker 3: over here, and then that's like then it doesn't even matter,
- 37:31Speaker 3: like whether or not you believe in God, then it's
- 37:34Speaker 3: just like, oh, well, shit, Like yeah, I mean.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Yeah, what if all the revelation shit happens. Like one
- 37:40Speaker 2: of my favorite things about the American Conservatives versus isis
- 37:44Speaker 2: the most fascinating thing about those two groups is they
- 37:47Speaker 2: both think things are going to end the exact same way.
- 37:51Speaker 2: They're basically on the same say. I just disagree about
- 37:55Speaker 2: who Jesus is coming back to save, right Isis thinks
- 37:58Speaker 2: he's coming back for them. Conservatives think, yeah, he'll be
- 38:02Speaker 2: back for the United States. What if it all happens
- 38:05Speaker 2: and he one is an alien, Yeah, and it's just
- 38:09Speaker 2: back for none of it.
- 38:10Speaker 3: I imagine Jesus comes back and he looks just like
- 38:12Speaker 3: a Renaissance painting, but he's got those big all the days.
- 38:16Speaker 2: He looks like that Fresco that got that woman touched up.
- 38:22Speaker 4: Yes, but maybe also a lizard tail.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Yeah, he's gonna have a tail obviously.
- 38:28Speaker 4: I mean every he's just like where are all the aliens? Like,
- 38:31Speaker 4: what are you fox doing here?
- 38:32Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 38:33Speaker 3: You guys should have been gone a long time ago.
- 38:34Speaker 2: We gave you these nukes. You're supposed to be out
- 38:38Speaker 2: of here. Yeah. It is crazy that all of the
- 38:42Speaker 2: kind of the modern age of UFO sightings all start
- 38:46Speaker 2: when we started testing nuclear It's a very post nuclear concept. Yeah.
- 38:52Speaker 2: And one of the things we mentioned on next week's
- 38:55Speaker 2: episode is that because I've perfected time travel and I've
- 38:59Speaker 2: already to it, is that not only did all the
- 39:04Speaker 2: UFO sightings start around then, but both the Air Force
- 39:08Speaker 2: and the CIA started like weeks after Roswell, Right, the
- 39:11Speaker 2: Roswell thing happened and we were like, oh, we need
- 39:14Speaker 2: we need an air force.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I've heard lots like there's an interesting
- 39:18Speaker 3: theory that the detonation of all of those nukes, like
- 39:23Speaker 3: there were thousands of nuclear detonations throughout the forties and fifties,
- 39:28Speaker 3: and maybe all of those attracted aliens. It's that's been
- 39:32Speaker 3: a theory that I've heard before.
- 39:34Speaker 2: If there's one part of the galaxy just spewing radiation.
- 39:38Speaker 3: All of a sudden, No, it looks like these little
- 39:40Speaker 3: monkeys have invented fucking nukes.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Great. See, that's one thing we haven't brought up yet
- 39:46Speaker 2: is what if we already know, Like, what if we
- 39:49Speaker 2: already know what our reaction is to aliens finally landing here,
- 39:53Speaker 2: and it's all the war stuff we've been doing, like
- 39:57Speaker 2: our entire this is it. Yeah, even in the option
- 40:02Speaker 2: the reaction is the government will hide it.
- 40:04Speaker 3: And the history of the night twenty first century nuke city.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And even if, like even if this
- 40:14Speaker 2: article that says humans would be all right with discovering
- 40:18Speaker 2: there were alien life forms, even if it was referring
- 40:22Speaker 2: to aliens landing on Earth, I don't care how small
- 40:26Speaker 2: that percentage of people who would not be cool with
- 40:30Speaker 2: it is. They're gonna be a huge fucking problem.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I think if I think if aliens land
- 40:37Speaker 3: on our soil, then people will more generally freak out.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah, then some sort of abstract thing like this
- 40:45Speaker 3: sky projection or like just a video of a UFO
- 40:49Speaker 3: or that sort of thing.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I think.
- 40:50Speaker 3: I think that would have your more varied splinter reactions,
- 40:55Speaker 3: you know, to learning that aliens exist. But like if
- 40:57Speaker 3: aliens are like, if they're like footage of aliens on
- 41:01Speaker 3: the fucking National Mall or whatever, or in like Rio
- 41:05Speaker 3: Deajan arrow that you're gonna have like, then that is
- 41:08Speaker 3: when you like people will start to like more widespread
- 41:12Speaker 3: flip out.
- 41:13Speaker 4: I just hope they make contact with children first, because
- 41:16Speaker 4: that always seems to work out best, it's true.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and then they have Reese's pieces.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I think that will make them kind of fun.
- 41:26Speaker 3: I hope we have a nice stockpile of Reese's pieces
- 41:29Speaker 3: somewhere that we can just launch.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Try it with candy corn first, so we get rid
- 41:37Speaker 2: of all that. If they provided they don't declare war.
- 41:42Speaker 3: See if they like our candy corn and Circus peanuts,
- 41:46Speaker 3: peanuts are all right.
- 41:48Speaker 4: This is our first line of fence, is we get
- 41:50Speaker 4: them hooked on sugar and they can't They got to
- 41:53Speaker 4: keep coming back for more, and then they're just then
- 41:55Speaker 4: they are our slates.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Yeah. No, we just have rockets loaded up with Reese's
- 41:59Speaker 3: pieces of coke.
- 42:00Speaker 4: Oh, well, a diet coke and mentos rocket ship. Just
- 42:05Speaker 4: maybe that's foom them will phone them away.
- 42:09Speaker 2: One last thing about how religions would react to this.
- 42:13Speaker 2: NASA has actually spent quite a bit of money researching
- 42:17Speaker 2: that question, which on the one hand seems not cool
- 42:21Speaker 2: because it's like separation of church and state and all that,
- 42:23Speaker 2: but also we need to know.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I think that is probably the most important thing to
- 42:27Speaker 3: know about eventual alien corsa, is how this large group
- 42:33Speaker 3: of people who already believe in fantastic things will react
- 42:36Speaker 3: to like a verification or whatever or provocation.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:42Speaker 4: I think that group specifically would be the most likely
- 42:44Speaker 4: to polarize, maybe in both directions, Like I think you
- 42:46Speaker 4: would definitely have religious zealots on one side saying, oh,
- 42:50Speaker 4: like this can't be possible, like we're going to have
- 42:52Speaker 4: to like kill them all or whatever, and the other
- 42:54Speaker 4: the other group of religious zealots who are like, hey,
- 42:57Speaker 4: this must be God right because they came from the sky,
- 42:59Speaker 4: so now they our thing and we're going to help
- 43:01Speaker 4: them or we're going to I don't know.
- 43:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you would have as many different reactions
- 43:05Speaker 3: to it as there are denominations of religion, and that uh,
- 43:10Speaker 3: that is in itself a volatile and violent prone dynamic.
- 43:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's.
- 43:18Speaker 3: Definitely worth spending a little like a million bus bugs
- 43:21Speaker 3: a million yeah, drop in the fucking bogies.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's certainly for a government too, Like
- 43:26Speaker 4: you suddenly like the government has zero power over these
- 43:29Speaker 4: people who like only are interested in aliens. In their power, some.
- 43:32Speaker 3: One gives a shit like yeah, the government, that's I
- 43:35Speaker 3: think that's the reason. It's pretty easy to understand why
- 43:38Speaker 3: the government would want to keep those things, quite sure,
- 43:41Speaker 3: it's just why the aliens would is the.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Do you think in alien landing, like a confirmed alien landing,
- 43:49Speaker 2: like holy shit, turned the TV on? Yeah, exactly, Yeah,
- 43:52Speaker 2: look at this. Do you think it would have the
- 43:54Speaker 2: uniting effect on humanity that people believe it would. No,
- 43:58Speaker 2: I don't.
- 43:59Speaker 3: I don't think any thing can have a uniting effect.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Honestly.
- 44:03Speaker 3: There's been a lot of ship that's gone down, like
- 44:07Speaker 3: even recently that seems like it should be uniting him.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's not.
- 44:13Speaker 3: And so I think, and yeah, I think there'll be
- 44:15Speaker 3: so much factionalism.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I could see that, And I just I think.
- 44:21Speaker 4: The US versus them, I don't know, because the US
- 44:24Speaker 4: versus them instinct would still play into the fact of like, oh,
- 44:27Speaker 4: we all hate each other, but at least we are
- 44:29Speaker 4: all the same. We know, we understand each other more
- 44:32Speaker 4: so than we understand I guess if.
- 44:35Speaker 3: They literally were attacking us, then maybe right, But also
- 44:42Speaker 3: if they're attacking us, how does that ever last longer
- 44:46Speaker 3: than an hour? Or like, you know, like there's no
- 44:49Speaker 3: way that they're able that they're coming across the galaxy
- 44:54Speaker 3: and they get here and then they're going to die
- 44:56Speaker 3: to our.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Guns, Like, yeah, get them cold, just give them a call.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Sure, yeah we should.
- 45:02Speaker 3: We should just give them a cold We'll send tumkers
- 45:04Speaker 3: running in.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing. If they do come here on
- 45:07Speaker 2: some war shit, Yeah, if they're coming here on war
- 45:10Speaker 2: like looking to kill us, or even not even looking
- 45:14Speaker 2: to kill us.
- 45:14Speaker 3: But like, again, there's no reason to think that we
- 45:17Speaker 3: would be anything more than bugs to them.
- 45:20Speaker 2: I think the degree to which it would unite the
- 45:23Speaker 2: world would depend on where it happened. If it happened
- 45:27Speaker 2: in the United States, I feel, because that's one thing
- 45:30Speaker 2: that survey Also, a lot of those people were probably
- 45:33Speaker 2: assuming this is a discovery that happened in the United States.
- 45:37Speaker 2: I think when everyone pictures it.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Everyone's picturing, like I said, a video of an alien
- 45:43Speaker 3: landing on the National Mall.
- 45:44Speaker 2: But but like, India is a pretty big government. It's
- 45:49Speaker 2: the world's biggest democracy. They have a space program. What
- 45:53Speaker 2: if they go to the moon and are like, you
- 45:56Speaker 2: are not gonna fucking believe what we like, that's a
- 46:01Speaker 2: pretty big government. It'd be crazy if it was on
- 46:04Speaker 2: the moon. Yeah, and that's a pretty big government saying publicly, Yep,
- 46:09Speaker 2: it's real, It's all real.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Found it.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Like, do you think people in the United States would
- 46:13Speaker 2: believe it? I think a.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Lot of people would, but I don't think it would
- 46:17Speaker 3: be close to everyone.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't I think people in the US would.
- 46:21Speaker 2: I think it would be I mean.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Not even necessarily split along these ideological lines, but it
- 46:27Speaker 3: would probably be about the same as the percentage of
- 46:30Speaker 3: people who support Trump and the percentage of people who
- 46:32Speaker 3: don't like him. Like, I don't think it won't necessarily
- 46:35Speaker 3: be split down those exact ideological lines, right, But like
- 46:39Speaker 3: that kind of there's always gonna be like thirty percent
- 46:43Speaker 3: of this country that just doesn't give a fuck and
- 46:47Speaker 3: just is like, no, I don't give a shit what
- 46:49Speaker 3: India says America went to the Moon and there are
- 46:52Speaker 3: no aliens there.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:54Speaker 4: I mean there's also probably the if it happens there
- 46:57Speaker 4: and we're not all wiped out in an hour. There's
- 46:59Speaker 4: also maybe the selectrety impact because of like someone that
- 47:02Speaker 4: you some celebrity that you love, says, oh yeah, I'm
- 47:04Speaker 4: on their side, like they're they're for real that India's
- 47:07Speaker 4: got it. The aliens are out there, like, you're probably gonna.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Con Yeah, I mean, I think you'll have like a
- 47:11Speaker 3: good seventy eighty percent of people who get pretty easily swayed,
- 47:15Speaker 3: who are swayed by India's testimony. But I don't think
- 47:19Speaker 3: you'll ever get everybody.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Now, they're gonna have to come.
- 47:22Speaker 3: There's just too many fucking people for us to ever
- 47:25Speaker 3: have everybody agreeing on anything.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Maybe that's the whole problem. What if aliens are hating
- 47:31Speaker 2: here to tell us that, yeah, give rid to some
- 47:33Speaker 2: people a few too many people.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Yeah, you got got a little planet here with seven
- 47:38Speaker 3: billion of you fuckers on it.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Maybe maybe chill. Yeah, I just hope the next thing
- 47:44Speaker 2: they say isn't so let's talk about Muslims. Fuck, no, boy, what.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Planet are you from?
- 47:53Speaker 2: Uh? So? Yeah, I think I don't know that it's
- 47:56Speaker 2: it's if it happens in the United States. I just
- 47:59Speaker 2: hope they land under circumstances that don't involve them getting
- 48:03Speaker 2: shot at by a bunch of good guys with guns.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Yeah. If they land in Central Florida, Yeah, and someone.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Just like fires a forty five at them, that sets
- 48:14Speaker 2: off this global cop another.
- 48:15Speaker 3: There is another fun thing about UH Independence Day is
- 48:18Speaker 3: that they do actually have those warnings on the TV, like,
- 48:21Speaker 3: don't shoot at the space ship, Like, yeah, you need
- 48:25Speaker 3: that because people shot at a fucking hurt hurricane.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so they'll definitely shoot alien. Yes.
- 48:34Speaker 4: I guess we can only assume they will be equally
- 48:36Speaker 4: as emotional as we are, and we'll take that as like, Oh,
- 48:39Speaker 4: we were gonna be nice, but you're trying to fund
- 48:41Speaker 4: so we'll fuck with you.
- 48:42Speaker 3: I wonder like if they, like, what if they had
- 48:45Speaker 3: the concept of humor and they find it funny that were.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Like, wouldn't that be nice?
- 48:50Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 48:51Speaker 4: Stand up?
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yah, Yeah we're dead, gotcha? You think you could kill
- 48:59Speaker 2: us the gun? We still have guns.
- 49:02Speaker 3: We traveled across the galaxy.
- 49:04Speaker 2: I'm immortal. I've been alive for five thousand years.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Just throw your little metal nibs at me.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Do it again? Should be stamp you got me? Oh yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 2: we'd be.
- 49:16Speaker 3: Fined oh one hundred. That's one of the main reasons
- 49:21Speaker 3: why I don't think that aliens have visited us in
- 49:24Speaker 3: any significant capacity, because there's no way that they don't.
- 49:28Speaker 3: Just they're like, oh, well, we'll just take everything that
- 49:30Speaker 3: you've got and then you'll die.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Yeah, But I mean they could be like mid aliens
- 49:35Speaker 2: who just have some powers, but not necessarily enough powers
- 49:38Speaker 2: to like take us over. I don't know. But then
- 49:41Speaker 2: how did they get here? Like that is well, that's
- 49:44Speaker 2: the day. They might have the technology.
- 49:46Speaker 3: But that technology is so insane to like get that
- 49:51Speaker 3: far in any amount.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Of time unless you have the right like if unless
- 49:56Speaker 2: they have a completely different propulsion system they've worked out
- 50:02Speaker 2: in that I mean, But that's what next week's episode
- 50:04Speaker 2: is about.
- 50:05Speaker 4: It's about whether the improbability drive. I'm a big fan
- 50:08Speaker 4: of Douglas Adams.
- 50:10Speaker 2: It's about whether the government is hiding free energy sources
- 50:14Speaker 2: from us, and whether those free energy sources are the
- 50:17Speaker 2: result of reverse engineered.
- 50:19Speaker 3: I mean, they would have to have something like that,
- 50:22Speaker 3: as we said earlier, And yeah, I don't I don't know.
- 50:25Speaker 3: It's tough for me to see any sort of pot
- 50:28Speaker 3: like what would be perceived on the whole is a
- 50:30Speaker 3: positive outcome from alien interaction.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:34Speaker 4: I have a hard time believing that this alien sentient
- 50:38Speaker 4: alien group would pour all of their resources into an
- 50:41Speaker 4: energy source that would allow them to travel here in
- 50:44Speaker 4: like a livable time frame and not use any of
- 50:47Speaker 4: those resources or any of that energy in a weaponized way.
- 50:50Speaker 4: They might little, I mean, they could be the most
- 50:53Speaker 4: benevolent society in the universe that decide to come visit
- 50:57Speaker 4: us first, But I don't know. That even seems a
- 50:59Speaker 4: little far.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Fast is one of the theories that's out there though,
- 51:02Speaker 2: is that, yes, there are alien civilizations.
- 51:05Speaker 1: We've made contact with us. It's just they're cool.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Yeah they don't care.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Yeah, well not even that they don't care. They like
- 51:11Speaker 1: want to help.
- 51:12Speaker 3: Yeah, they're like, oh, hey, here have some stuff.
- 51:14Speaker 2: He goes stupid.
- 51:16Speaker 3: Rich Davis says we could just get them hooked on
- 51:18Speaker 3: oxy conton or something, And I think that's a good idea.
- 51:20Speaker 3: That is not the worst idea, it's a pretty good idea.
- 51:24Speaker 2: Detention centers, Yeah, hey, along the border between Earth and
- 51:28Speaker 2: outer space, that's going to create jobs.
- 51:33Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, we've got to create jobs for the aliens.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Yeah what No, no yet, I mean America first, we
- 51:40Speaker 2: got to build jobs keeping the aliens.
- 51:42Speaker 4: Great. The aliens are gonna take our chi I think
- 51:47Speaker 4: that's our best lot of defense. Give them the jobs.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:49Speaker 3: What if they're like homeless aliens like in District nine.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that that's that would be a possible just
- 51:57Speaker 2: stranded here. Yeah, and we have to go on refugees.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that would get really intense.
- 52:05Speaker 2: I bet it would look kind of like District I think.
- 52:08Speaker 2: So that's one of the reasons I like that movie.
- 52:11Speaker 3: That movie is straight, but like, yeah, I think I
- 52:13Speaker 3: like Chappie too. I think Chappie gets a raw deal
- 52:16Speaker 3: because it's called Chappy. Yeah, and that the robot sounds
- 52:20Speaker 3: like Charlton Kochley and is called Chappy. I think that
- 52:23Speaker 3: makes people like be like, oh, that's fucking stupid.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty fun. I thought it was great. It
- 52:30Speaker 2: was a good time. Uh so, yeah, that's Chappy.
- 52:34Speaker 1: That's our episode.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Unless anyone has any final thoughts on the aliens landing,
- 52:39Speaker 2: I just I think I'm afraid we're gonna shoot at him.
- 52:42Speaker 3: I'm all for it on that lady on the roof
- 52:45Speaker 3: at the end, like in when in Los Angeles and
- 52:48Speaker 3: Independence Day with the sign like we're yeah, welcome as
- 52:53Speaker 3: the laser gout.
- 52:54Speaker 2: That's me. That's that's who I am in that movie.
- 52:56Speaker 2: I'm just ready.
- 52:57Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, my sign will even say like kill us.
- 53:02Speaker 2: It's gonna be that kind of like you might as
- 53:05Speaker 2: well just embrace it.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Blast.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:10Speaker 4: I think at the end of the day, I just
- 53:11Speaker 4: would rather know than not know. I know that like
- 53:15Speaker 4: they're here and they exist, even if I'm like seconds
- 53:17Speaker 4: away from incineration. I just want to know.
- 53:19Speaker 3: I'm honestly, Yeah, I for really, I'm all about aliens.
- 53:23Speaker 3: I think it would be dope if they showed up.
- 53:25Speaker 3: I would love to talk to one. I'd love to
- 53:27Speaker 3: meet one and hang out. I thought Arrival was great. Yeah,
- 53:31Speaker 3: that would be the first thing I'd tell them. I'd
- 53:33Speaker 3: be like, hey, I get you a rival, right circle
- 53:36Speaker 3: circle writing, I get it.
- 53:38Speaker 4: It's in all directions.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I would be that type, Like the kind of
- 53:43Speaker 2: luck I have. It would end for me like the
- 53:45Speaker 2: movie version of Stephen King's The Mist, Like I'd be
- 53:49Speaker 2: out there waiting and like an alien would just like
- 53:53Speaker 2: be open to it, not knowing, Like fifteen feet behind me,
- 53:57Speaker 2: there's some government vehicle broadcasting a sick know that's like, hey,
- 54:01Speaker 2: they die in the dark. We're just gonna shut the
- 54:02Speaker 2: power right down overnight. Yeah, by on this half of
- 54:06Speaker 2: the planet tonight, the other half tomorrow.
- 54:08Speaker 1: It's gonna be fun.
- 54:09Speaker 2: Just stay outside, make it through space.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Explosions. Explosions in space.
- 54:17Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of grow lights on those.
