- 5:32Speaker 3: We just keep posting and we appreciate it.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Plus, we do a lot of the new short feeds, which we call Whiskey Thieving 101.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Everybody, and so that's kind of cool.
- 5:46Speaker 3: So there's so much going on right now with us and I just want to run over a little bit one.
- 5:52Speaker 3: We've got, uh, christy maddie and we've got her bourbon raffle, uh, for bees to help children with learning disabilities who the system just doesn't work with.
- 6:10Speaker 3: They basically go in and allow them to afford the services they need for their children to succeed in the school systems.
- 6:21Speaker 3: And what she has done and the lives she has changed and the families that she has helped has been amazing, and she does this with this amazing bourbon raffle, the tickets.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Talk about amazing, you are right.
- 6:36Speaker 4: I mean I was, she has 75 bottles, everything from Pappy to Buffalo Trace Antique Collection.
- 6:43Speaker 4: I mean hard to find stuff that I mean normal, everyday bourbon hunters cannot get themselves.
- 6:51Speaker 4: And you've got a legitimate chance because she's only selling 2000 tickets.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Right and it's open-beescom and if you just type that in, it'll take you there for the second annual bourbon raffle.
- 7:08Speaker 3: She works hard.
- 7:11Speaker 3: You can see on my channel, if you scroll down a little bit, you can see the video that we produced with the testimonials of people who she's touched their world and what she's doing.
- 7:26Speaker 3: And this bourbon raffle, 100% legit, backed from open-beescom.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Open Bees is a legitimate fundraising fundraising.
- 7:41Speaker 3: They have a fundraiser and they are a non-profit organization and this fundraiser is.
- 7:49Speaker 3: They did this last year and it raised so much money and we need you guys again to go purchase your tickets.
- 8:00Speaker 3: A ticket is like a donation to the foundation and the non-profit and for what she's doing, for the money and you're gonna get.
- 8:12Speaker 3: You got a shot at a fantastic bottle of bourbon.
- 8:16Speaker 3: I mean her the collection that she had there, the rabbit hole founders collection.
- 8:22Speaker 3: She had the stags.
- 8:23Speaker 3: She has everything I got to see in front of it and you could see in that video those bottles and it's amazing what those Pappy 23s to have all that bourbon in one place and to see it was amazing that bourbon in one place and to see it was amazing every ticket you buy has the potential to win one of those bottles.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Not just you know you buy all these tickets and then once you if you do win, then all your other tickets are thrown out.
- 8:57Speaker 4: Every ticket you purchase gets until the end is drawn.
- 9:02Speaker 4: So all the bottles are given out has the potential to win a bottle, so all five of your tickets get drawn.
- 9:08Speaker 4: If you purchase that committee and you win five bottles from that collection yeah, and you can't punish people who are donating so much.
- 9:17Speaker 3: They have a.
- 9:17Speaker 3: If you're going to donate that, you want a shot at those bottles and you want a shot at multiple bottles.
- 9:23Speaker 3: You got to buy multiple tickets because the donation is the most important thing.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Buying the ticket, it's like, and it's not.
- 9:31Speaker 3: The tickets aren't that expensive for a bourbon raffle, that's for sure.
- 9:35Speaker 4: And you know?
- 9:35Speaker 4: That's exactly.
- 9:36Speaker 4: What I said is that I purchased my tickets and I donated my money Right.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Whether I win a bottle or not, I know that I've donated to a good cause.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Yes, and it's a great cause.
- 9:48Speaker 4: So you know that's again.
- 9:50Speaker 3: Open-beescom.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Christy does a fantastic job with this.
- 9:55Speaker 3: You have nothing to worry about.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Your money's going to go to help families and and children and then you're going.
- 10:05Speaker 3: If you win, you're gonna get your bourbon.
- 10:08Speaker 3: So that's just you know, and it's fair.
- 10:11Speaker 3: There's no anything these people are all done live man, the manis are down home, awesome people he's got the rules stated there.
- 10:24Speaker 4: If you're not able to pick up the bottle in person, in which there's several places to pick up the bottles after the drone's over that, your bottle can be shipped, but it's got to be set up.
- 10:36Speaker 4: They have independent bottle shippers, which is like basic liquor stores that can ship bottles.
- 10:45Speaker 4: They've already set up and been approved.
- 10:48Speaker 4: So, like I said, just take a look at the rules and go purchase your tickets and help this good cause out.
- 10:56Speaker 3: It's a great cause and I stand by it, and I'm so glad that I got to meet Tom and Christy Fantastic, fantastic people.
- 11:52Speaker 3: They are doing the work that you know, and without Christy this wouldn't exist.
- 12:00Speaker 3: So I will talk about it again until we can get all those tickets sold, because that's what we need to do.
- 12:08Speaker 3: All right, so then also, everybody, the Kentucky Bourbon Festival is coming up in September.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Also our annual bus tour, which I'm about to book, because I almost have a count of how many people want to do this.
- 12:27Speaker 3: So once I got the count, I know how many people want to do this.
- 12:30Speaker 3: So once I got the count, I know how many buses I need.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Uh, nash, super nash, talk about what you're already, um, looking at on bringing along.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Uh, I mean, I know you've been working on it and you know I've been saving a couple special bottles, but you know that's pretty cool uh, this year I think we're going to bring along, uh, a 1968 uh jw dan milk bottle from a collection collector's bottle and we're going to open that up.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Uh, that's probably going to be the showpiece the show showpiece.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I mean last year, how many showpiece did you have?
- 13:11Speaker 3: I mean there was Old Fitz.
- 13:12Speaker 3: You had the Old Fitz.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Yeah, last year.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I had the Weller.
- 13:21Speaker 4: And we had the Booker's bourbon, the old Booker's bourbon bottle.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Which is right behind me.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah, right behind you.
- 13:31Speaker 4: And then we had a couple more.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Well, I opened up my no yeah, but I also opened up that special Lee, that from the Colonel Lee.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Was it?
- 13:50Speaker 3: Yeah, colonel Lee.
- 13:53Speaker 3: No, the Colonel Lee.
- 13:55Speaker 3: No the Colonel Lee, which was the small bottle that Brad Bonds had you know that little half pint.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Which we learned that Ross was working for Barton's and that was originally produced at the Barton's 1792 Distillery.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that was kind of cool.
- 14:17Speaker 3: So the bus tour is coming up.
- 14:19Speaker 3: If you want to know about that, ask me about the bus tour.
- 14:22Speaker 3: You can ask once again Jeffrey Mueller, facebook Messenger.
- 14:26Speaker 3: We also opened up the Clinton straight from the barrel.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 3: So we had some really, really good.
- 14:30Speaker 3: That's part of this, this ticketed thing.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Not only do you get three distilleries, you get lunch, but you get special pours and the people that come bring their own stuff too.
- 14:41Speaker 3: This is this is not a normal.
- 14:44Speaker 4: But I mean the people that come home to us because this is like their second and third year on the tour, because they enjoy it and they've got to where they're bringing their own special bottles to share with everybody too so yeah, so now.
- 14:59Speaker 3: But now for right after the bus tour starts, kentucky bourbon festival, the general three-day passes are still available.
- 15:06Speaker 3: You want to go there?
- 15:07Speaker 3: The three-day passes, we've stressed the last couple podcasts.
- 15:11Speaker 3: They are awesome in itself.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I mean, you are talking over 60 distilleries, tastings.
- 15:19Speaker 3: You have access to, um, all the different areas.
- 15:23Speaker 3: You can hear all the different interviews.
- 15:26Speaker 3: You can watch the bourbon 30 uh interviews.
- 15:27Speaker 3: You know, you've got access to all the different interviews.
- 15:28Speaker 3: You can watch the Bourbon 30 interviews.
- 15:29Speaker 3: You've got access to all the different distilleries and what they're releasing.
- 15:33Speaker 3: It just gets better.
- 15:35Speaker 3: I'm just going to say, if you're a collector and you like to, you know, if you are a collector and you want to 100% get bottles, then this is what to do.
- 15:47Speaker 3: What you want to 100% get bottles, then this is what to do.
- 15:51Speaker 3: What you want to do, you want to get.
- 15:53Speaker 3: You want this is.
- 15:54Speaker 3: The distilleries, every year, are getting it further and further, and also the festival makes it so that more and more stuff can be purchased.
- 16:03Speaker 3: There's not only can you purchase from the distilleries, but the bottle shop will be there this year to purchase from the NDPs.
- 16:11Speaker 3: So they got it covered.
- 16:14Speaker 3: The bourbon's going to be there this year.
- 16:16Speaker 3: You just have to be there Last year.
- 16:19Speaker 3: We're talking the Little Book Lineage and Booker's and Baker's 13.
- 16:30Speaker 3: I mean we are talking Jim Beam blew out everything for that.
- 16:35Speaker 3: That was amazing, so you want to check that out.
- 16:39Speaker 3: 100% of Kentucky Bourbon Festival this year it's going to be off the charts.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Now we've covered that.
- 16:45Speaker 3: We've covered.
- 16:48Speaker 3: I want to, oh, covering upcoming podcast.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I mean, this has been a loaded first couple of minutes.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Dixon Dedman next Tuesday he is going to be talking about his brand 2XO.
- 17:00Speaker 3: We've got the gem of Kentucky, or the gym of Kentucky, depending on what.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Who's saying it, of Kentucky, depending on who's saying it.
- 17:09Speaker 3: You just cracked me up, man, you cracked me up, and that is going to be an exciting podcast having Dixon Dedman on.
- 17:18Speaker 3: We thought about doing a little bit of Kentucky Owl, but it's the Kentucky Derby weekend and that's where we're at right now and you know we've got a lot of information on the Kentucky Derby.
- 17:30Speaker 3: I'm going to try and wait before we get into that.
- 17:34Speaker 3: And then also Alan hey, alan, it's good to see you, or see that you're in the group.
- 17:42Speaker 3: And how are things going at the old homestead?
- 17:46Speaker 3: Because that's an exciting.
- 17:47Speaker 3: That's been some exciting news.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Uh got to talk to jolie a little bit tonight.
- 17:51Speaker 3: She finally had a space uh, open and let gave gave us the low down on everything.
- 17:58Speaker 3: But you know, as as uh alan will attest to, starting up a brand new distillery uh is not an easy thing.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Uh, we we've.
- 18:06Speaker 3: It's funny because we've been for the ride from a couple distilleries starting up wouldn't you say Super Nash.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I mean, we were right there all along with Logstill and their building.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I mean, I remember they had just, uh, that distillery had they hadn't even started, uh, you know, the main building for the just, you know, for the still, uh, where we've been going all along the way with luca mariano, from the time, uh, when they put up their tent and we did the barrel pick, you know.
- 18:45Speaker 3: And then, and then also, I think, middle West spirits up here, ryan Lane, he basically has been, you know, starting up a huge distillery.
- 18:59Speaker 3: And then, you know, I've been talking to Denny Potter and he's talking to me, potter, and he's talking about, so it's almost like you know, when you're, when you're firsthand with the people, and then also Alan and what he's doing, yeah, what he's doing there, we hear about it A lot of times.
- 19:21Speaker 3: We come in and we get to see it.
- 19:23Speaker 3: You know what I mean and it's kind of a cool thing.
- 19:26Speaker 3: You know it easy, that's one thing I know.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Once you get everything running and all the hoses and the fittings and the pressure valves, that's a whole different story in itself.
- 19:36Speaker 3: To get those, you know, get those stills up and running and everything and all the the direction.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Uh, usually when people are building a newer distillery they've got a lot of high.
- 19:47Speaker 3: You know the what would you say the valves and the hoses all going in the right direction so that you can fill ferment, would you say paths for the distillate to go through, to get all the way to filling it up and into the barrel.
- 20:10Speaker 3: And so that is not an easy thing.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Sometimes it goes smoother than others.
- 20:23Speaker 3: But I mean, I know that Middle West was supposed to be up in the spring and in the fall he was just starting to.
- 20:30Speaker 3: You know, get his feet on the ground.
- 20:32Speaker 3: There was a lot of when you're producing that amount of whiskey, there was a lot of stuff that could go wrong, and it does.
- 20:39Speaker 3: But anyways, all right.
- 20:41Speaker 3: So we got Dixon Deadman coming on and then, two weeks from now, I think I have never believed in a project or a group of people more than this.
- 20:51Speaker 3: It's something special.
- 20:53Speaker 3: I get that, alan.
- 20:55Speaker 3: There's no doubt You're going to the right place.
- 20:58Speaker 3: It's not like there's not a track record, right.
- 21:07Speaker 3: You got a track record.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Jolie's like there's not a track record, right?
- 21:08Speaker 3: You got a track record.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Jolie's been there for a little bit and I feel that when someone builds a distillery with you in mind, that's something special.
- 21:19Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it, absolutely.
- 21:23Speaker 3: But you know you can't say that you didn't work your ass off to get there, that somebody wanted to do that for you.
- 21:29Speaker 3: It's not just because of your good looks, that's for sure.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I know there's a lot of shit that happens.
- 21:37Speaker 3: That's not because of my good looks, that's for sure.
- 21:40Speaker 3: All right, anyways.
- 21:43Speaker 4: That's for sure.
- 21:45Speaker 3: So let's talk, Nash, we won't go there.
- 21:48Speaker 3: So before we got into bourbon, right, the Kentucky Derby to me was very.
- 21:56Speaker 3: What would you say?
- 21:59Speaker 3: It wasn't, I would watch it, whatever, but I really didn't get into it.
- 22:03Speaker 3: But how about?
- 22:06Speaker 4: you.
- 22:07Speaker 4: But yeah, how about you?
- 22:16Speaker 4: The same way, I would watch it, but I didn't really kind of know all the rules, what was?
- 22:22Speaker 4: going on I didn't keep it, I didn't know the horses or anything like that, but now a whole nother level of the Derby, and I guess that's because Urban's involved and we also have a great, great friend and a member of our group, el Presidente Randy Frost, which he's been involved with the Kentucky Derby for many, many years and now, like I say, he's a good friend and a member of our group and so that just encouraged me to get more involved with it and more knowledgeable about the event.
- 23:06Speaker 3: All right, to start off, let's talk about what you did this year for randy.
- 23:10Speaker 3: I mean, it's the coolest thing.
- 23:12Speaker 3: It's part of what the scotchy bourbon boys why, uh, you want to know us and your super dash is so much a part of us and I'm I.
- 23:23Speaker 3: He makes me um proud that I know him.
- 23:27Speaker 3: But he does things and generous things for people and this is not anything less than super Nash-ish.
- 23:38Speaker 4: I just happen to have a couple of Jim Bain decters that were Kentucky Derby festival bottles and one of them just happened to be, I believe, was the 95th running the Kentucky Derby which we me and Randy looked it up and it was the 1969 running the year after his birthday in 1968.
- 24:16Speaker 4: So I actually I sent that up there to him and gave that to him and he will be opening that bottle and it's completely full and he'll be opening in that bottle and it's completely full and he'll be opening that bottle, I believe he said on Saturday the 4th, with an old boss of his that was at Churchill Downs and he will be giving us a review of what it tastes like and all that and which we me and you both have tasted a lot of those old Jim Beam decanters that my dad and they are.
- 24:56Speaker 4: Every one of them has been fantastic.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Yes, for sure, for sure.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Looking forward to this and Randy, when he opened it up, he was just elated with it and just told me that he just can't wait to open it up on Saturday, may 4th Awesome, During the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Yep, shout out to Stacey Stearns, she's watching tonight.
- 25:22Speaker 3: And then Alan said that he came up with a reason and his reason would be like arm the Hoosiers with pellet guns so that you could bet, and then he'd go and kind of thing.
- 25:34Speaker 3: But I'm saying is I don't, the Kentucky Derby for me, the way the crowds shake out and my income level, and, and you know, and I wouldn't, even this is not one favor that you'd want to try and call in.
- 25:50Speaker 3: You know, with uh, randy, randy, this is randy's thing it wouldn't be, you know, you just wouldn't want to say, hey, what can I go with you?
- 25:58Speaker 3: Or anything like that.
- 25:59Speaker 3: And if I ever went, I was looking for one year before we were looking at going uh with uh, the other people that we used that used to be here a part of the podcast, and when we were looking at tickets they were expensive and it was infield and you had to wear boots and if it rained and I mean it was just crazy and Alan was talking about, well, then I'll go, then I don't think I'd ever go, because I've got an 85-inch TV, I've got a 65-inch I could put out on my deck if it's not raining and I'm going to basically watch the Woodford Reserve commercials, pour myself whatever I'm drinking, whether I'm going to drink along with the history we're going to go over the history.
- 26:44Speaker 3: So there's a lot to choose from of what you can be drinking if you want to participate in the history of what people have drank throughout.
- 26:52Speaker 3: And but it's a.
- 26:53Speaker 3: It definitely is a TV sport for me.
- 26:57Speaker 3: You know I can skip the crowds, I don't.
- 27:01Speaker 3: You know, when you think about the race itself, if you're going to have a good view of the whole race, you're talking.
- 27:08Speaker 3: You're way back in the middle, on the top.
- 27:12Speaker 3: You know, in the booths or whatever at the top, that that gives you a view of the whole race.
- 27:17Speaker 3: If you're up front you're you might see the and the.
- 27:20Speaker 3: You know the to watch the finish line.
- 27:22Speaker 3: But if you're out front of the finish line, you know it's a.
- 27:25Speaker 3: That track is a mile long, right, it's a mile long race and it is seriously that's way far away.
- 27:35Speaker 3: You know what I mean.
- 27:36Speaker 3: When it starts, it's just not a way to view.
- 27:38Speaker 3: But you watch it on tv, you see it every step of the way and when it's over, they show it to you over and over and over again if it's a photo finish, you know what I mean.
- 27:48Speaker 3: So it's just definitely for me not the greatest uh live experience that I want to experience, I want to experience it.
- 27:56Speaker 4: You know, also I like watching, uh, some of the you know the close-ups of the jockeys and you know mid-race and going in the curves.
- 28:05Speaker 4: You know some of them.
- 28:07Speaker 4: I mean they get close, they hit each other and things like that.
- 28:10Speaker 4: I mean, there's all kinds of things that can happen that you will never, ever see.
- 28:14Speaker 4: If you're standing on the ground on the infield, or if you're in those lower seats on different parts of the track.
- 28:20Speaker 4: You'll never, ever see it.
- 28:22Speaker 3: So I have a I right now.
- 28:24Speaker 3: I have an assignment.
- 28:25Speaker 3: I'll do the assignment because your phone is being used, so I'll use the other phone and I'm going to give the weather reports.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Let's just give a weather report right now.
- 28:40Speaker 4: What is going to be like?
- 28:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Yeah, which is Churchill?
- 28:45Speaker 3: It's Churchill Downs, right.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Churchill Downs.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Yes's, churchill Downs right.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Churchill Downs.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Yes, churchill, all right, I know where it is, I'm just going to type in this.
- 29:03Speaker 3: There we go.
- 29:04Speaker 3: The weather forecast for why is it?
- 29:09Speaker 3: What just happened?
- 29:13Speaker 3: I get it.
- 29:14Speaker 3: I go to ads.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Okay, the weather forecast for Saturday.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Let's get this baby there.
- 29:24Speaker 3: It is daily, saturday 79 degrees with 50 chance of rain.
- 29:33Speaker 3: So we'll have to see.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Let's see rain showers early, with overcast skies late in the day.
- 29:39Speaker 3: So hopefully, by late in the day, overcast, um, you know.
- 29:44Speaker 3: So it's going to be a gray, gloomy and the track's probably going to be a little wet, right?
- 29:49Speaker 3: What horse is a mutter?
- 29:53Speaker 3: That's what you want to know, right?
- 29:57Speaker 3: So there's your forecast, that would be my second pick, which is fierceness.
- 30:08Speaker 4: That would be my second pick, fierceness.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Terry said it's a mile and a quarter.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Thank you, Terry.
- 30:15Speaker 3: I appreciate the correction.
- 30:18Speaker 4: And I just happened to read that too a mile and a quarter, yeah.
- 30:21Speaker 3: So we're looking at.
- 30:22Speaker 3: You know it's such a quick.
- 30:24Speaker 3: You know there's this buildup to it.
- 30:27Speaker 3: People go to bars.
- 30:29Speaker 3: I mean that some of the bars that I, I uh eat lunch and have uh kentucky derby.
- 30:34Speaker 3: You know countdown.
- 30:35Speaker 3: So minglewood here is having a derby party.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Now I I'm not into the, the, the poshness of the of the derby.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Uh, that's one of the other reasons I'm not.
- 30:49Speaker 3: I don't want to dress up.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Uh, I, I appreciate them dressing up and I appreciate the that, but that's for people who love horses and horse racing and it really is something in kentucky.
- 31:03Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it.
- 31:04Speaker 3: All of our friends that are down in k, down in Kentucky, have all week been going to events and different things.
- 31:11Speaker 3: It was cool to see Kate this morning with the boys.
- 31:14Speaker 3: They were there at Churchill Downs and then some of our friends are there.
- 31:22Speaker 3: So that's kind of cool.
- 31:23Speaker 3: So that's going to happen at 6,.
- 31:26Speaker 3: What is it?
- 31:26Speaker 3: I?
- 31:27Speaker 3: I want to say isn't that the time that it starts on saturday?
- 31:33Speaker 3: It's something random like that, but I think I I remember seeing that it was 607 or 637, but I think it's 637 anyways, getting ready for that, uh.
- 31:44Speaker 3: So one of the things about the history of the derby is that it has this marriage with bourbon right.
- 31:53Speaker 3: So I have a real quick history to run over.
- 31:58Speaker 3: I'm gonna share we've got.
- 32:04Speaker 3: We've got the odds.
- 32:05Speaker 3: We'll talk about that later, later, but I believe let's see where am I?
- 32:10Speaker 3: Is that it Story?
- 32:13Speaker 3: Okay, so initially nothing was official, but uh, the main uh brands that have been associated uh, there were, so there were three volume brands were woodford reserve makers, mark and buffalo, trace, jim beam, evan williams, henry mckinnon, four roses, bullet and a few others have cracked the top from time to time, but the one and two position have been a steady stream of makers and woodford.
- 32:47Speaker 3: So those are um big they.
- 32:49Speaker 3: They come out with those special bottles, right, but, um, so initially, let's see, that was last year.
- 32:59Speaker 3: It said, uh, beginning with the 144th running on may 5th 2018.
- 33:04Speaker 3: That's when uh, woodford became, uh, the kentucky derby derbyby's official sponsor.
- 33:15Speaker 3: But they were talking about it's likely the sponsorship in bourbon history and should grow Okay, as the bourbon.
- 33:23Speaker 3: This person studied it and he said after Prohibition, horse racing, baseball and boxing were the United States' top sports and since horse racing crowned jewel, the Kentucky Derby was in the Kentucky bourbon distiller's backyard.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Each major brand found itself in a race to own the publicity rights to the Kentucky Derby.
- 33:47Speaker 3: From the end of Prohibition to 1942, dozens of bourbon advertisements filled the pages of the Derby programs.
- 33:55Speaker 3: The leaders of the pack were Brown Foreman, old Forester, paul Jones and the National Distillers.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Like the horse in the race, each ad was strong, making a case for their bourbon to be the beloved spirit of the Kentucky Derby patron.
- 34:13Speaker 3: For their bourbon to be the beloved spirit of the Kentucky Derby patron.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Brown Foreman held true to the fact that Old Forrester is a one-distillery bourbon National plugged.
- 34:26Speaker 3: The mixability of Old Grandad and Old Taylor and Paul Jones' Four Roses spoke of virtue in its blends.
- 34:31Speaker 3: May 4, 1935, old Forrester, bottled in bond for 65 years, acknowledged by connoisseurs to be the finest of Kentucky whiskeys.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Old Forrester with its famous full-bodied flavor, mellow richness and glowing satisfaction.
- 34:44Speaker 3: It's production by us only and from our own famous formula, treasured since 1870.
- 34:51Speaker 3: The famous old forester plain label appears only on whiskey made by ourselves, in our own distillery, by our own methods.
- 35:00Speaker 3: A limited quantity is now available.
- 35:02Speaker 3: So then, in 1938, national distillers.
- 35:05Speaker 3: 1942 was for roses.
- 35:07Speaker 3: And then brown and foreman to this day took and and uh Foreman to this day took, and let's see down.
- 35:15Speaker 3: In the Kentucky Derby they won more reasons than just spending more money.
- 35:20Speaker 3: The Brown family had passion for the race in 1940.
- 35:26Speaker 3: They created a special bottling for the 1966 Kentucky Derby.
- 35:28Speaker 3: It was only available to those in attendance and this author's great white whale and bourbon collecting.
- 35:35Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 35:36Speaker 3: That's just kind of a quick history.
- 35:38Speaker 3: I mean, recently, you know, brown and Foreman pretty much won out because of their love of racing and being in that area.
- 35:47Speaker 3: You know, overall it's been was Brown and Foreman then into Woodford Reserve, so kind of cool right.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Yes, it was Brown and Foreman then into Woodford Reserve, so kind of cool right.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Yes, it is.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Let me take the share screen off.
- 36:00Speaker 3: Where does that go?
- 36:03Speaker 3: There it is.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Stop sharing.
- 36:06Speaker 3: There we go.
- 36:07Speaker 3: We'll go back to full screen there we go.
- 36:11Speaker 4: The next bourbon up is, what Wouldn't you say, woodford Reserve?
- 36:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Now this is.
- 36:20Speaker 4: This bottle is the special edition for the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Picked this up on the way down here today.
- 36:35Speaker 3: That's awesome $44.95.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's one thing about.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Now.
- 36:40Speaker 3: There's a lot of special bottles, but the one thing that I've got to say is I've seen the Derby bottles and the painted bottles and they're all kind of cool, but my Roxy last year, this is the one from the 148.
- 36:52Speaker 3: The Derby bottles and the painted bottles and they're all kind of cool, but I my, my Roxy last year, the one from the 148.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Yeah, you've got that this was what I was bringing down here until I stopped at, uh, uh, one of my favorite stores on the way down here and they, they happen to have a like a case of these, like a 44, 95.
- 37:10Speaker 4: I was like, hey, we're doing the podcast tonight, Pick it up.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's the same bourbon that's in the normal Woodford Reserve.
- 37:20Speaker 3: So what I did, or what Roxy did, it's not a special batch, you know what I mean, it's just Woodford Now.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Well, I'm going to beg to differ, because I got some notes on that.
- 37:35Speaker 3: You can get notes.
- 37:36Speaker 3: But it's Everybody says they don't put special Derby juice in there.
- 37:43Speaker 3: It's a special bottle filled with Woodford Reserve.
- 37:46Speaker 3: It's just what it is.
- 37:48Speaker 3: But there are some distilleries that do special, like wilderness trail definitely releases their derby batch, so does peerless um, there are distilleries throughout the area that release special batches.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Now, if you prove me wrong on the woodford, you can prove me wrong.
- 38:11Speaker 3: But what I've done, or what Roxy did, was this she bought a special glass painted by, I believe, the guy.
- 38:20Speaker 3: Oh wow, she's got.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Yes, harry bought two of those too.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Yep.
- 38:27Speaker 4: I could have brought mine down.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Yeah, but now I don't care what Woodford Reserve is in the bottle.
- 38:34Speaker 3: No matter what Woodford Reserve is in a bottle or what I'm drinking, I'm drinking for the Kentucky Bourbon Festival.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Now, this Woodford Reserve that I'm going to be doing is the pick for the 2023 Kentucky Bourbon Festival, and I'm going to be upping my game and I'm going to pour some from distillers row.
- 38:58Speaker 3: So this would have been the bottle from this year, the 2023, I mean, and you could start reading, but I just got a quick oh.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Okay, and it's right here in the paperwork.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Okay.
- 39:16Speaker 4: In the lush rolling hills of Kentucky, where thoroughbreds graze and the history of bourbon whispers through the oak trees, the master distiller, the master of oak practices, a time-honored craft.
- 39:29Speaker 4: It's here, in a distillery steeped in tradition, that the winning sip celebrating the 150th Kentucky Derby is conceived.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Morris is no ordinary craftsman.
- 39:40Speaker 4: He is a guardian of flavor, a maestro steering an orchestra of sweet, spicy and smoky notes.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Each day, he turns the ground with a watchful eye, ensuring that every step of the distillation process is precise, every batch of bourbon unique, displayed in a paneled tasting room.
- 39:57Speaker 4: A library of amber-filled bottles glint under the soft light.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Among them, a special blend awaits, one that encapsulates the spirit of the derby Morris, contemplates the profile, selecting those with the richest hints of vanilla, the brightest parts of citrus and the warmest echoes of toasted oak.
- 40:19Speaker 4: It isn't just bourbon that he's crafted.
- 40:22Speaker 4: It's an experience, a memory that will linger on the palate long after the glasses clink in celebration.
- 40:29Speaker 4: We're not just making bourbon.
- 40:31Speaker 4: We're making history.
- 40:33Speaker 4: Morris often remarks His passion is as rich as the bourbon he nurtures With the patience of a saint and the precision of a scientist.
- 40:44Speaker 4: Morris blends art and science to create the perfect sip, the water naturally filtered through the limestone shelf, unique to Kentucky, lends the bourbon experience your smoothness.
- 40:55Speaker 4: The carefully selected grains contribute to the bourbon's complexity, while the charred oak barrels and bark deck put an essential caramel hue.
- 41:02Speaker 4: As the Derby approaches, anticipation builds.
- 41:05Speaker 4: Moorbridge knows that his creation will not just herald a winner but become part of a timeless legacy, a tribute to the past, a toast to the future, all encapsulated within Woodford Reserve's winning stiff.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Right, but that is the batch that they release for specifically for the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Nope, not what they send out to the, If you listen up here, displayed in a panel tasting room, a library of Amberfield bottles which is talking about the Derby bottles, All the Derby bottles, Each one.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Every year he crafts the winning sip specifically for the Derby bottles.
- 41:54Speaker 4: Which they release a special blend and also back up here.
- 41:58Speaker 4: It also says about the blend.
- 42:04Speaker 3: So I want you to read the back of your bottle that you picked up on the way down here.
- 42:13Speaker 4: Produced by Women of Free Reserve Government Morning and 4-8-7-30-0.
- 42:17Speaker 4: Women should not drink alcohol.
- 42:20Speaker 4: No, here we go.
- 42:22Speaker 4: The side of it is talking about Wiley Caldwell's artistic style.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Right, the horned-in roses is on the side of itdwell's artistic style.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 42:33Speaker 4: The horned end rose is on the side of it.
- 42:35Speaker 4: That's all it's got.
- 42:38Speaker 3: I know.
- 42:39Speaker 4: There's nothing else.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Yeah, but the bottle that gets released for the 150th Derby release has a big thing and they release it from the distillery.
- 42:49Speaker 3: They put that that is a distillery-only release for the distillery.
- 42:53Speaker 3: They put that that is a distillery only release for the Derby.
- 42:55Speaker 3: But what hits the shelves with that bottle is that's what I was always told.
- 43:01Speaker 3: They don't make 8 billion bottles of the special one.
- 43:09Speaker 3: That's you know.
- 43:10Speaker 3: People walk away with the special one.
- 43:12Speaker 3: Now I hope someone tells me I'm wrong, but that's what I've always been said, been told.
- 43:18Speaker 3: So what is the tasting notes on there?
- 43:21Speaker 3: Don't you have both bottles now?
- 43:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:26Speaker 3: I mean, why don't you taste each one and see if they're noticeably different?
- 43:31Speaker 4: I just got through tasting this one.
- 43:34Speaker 4: This one's really good.
- 43:35Speaker 4: Wait, there's nothing left.
- 43:36Speaker 4: Of course, you did Well.
- 43:41Speaker 4: I poured this before I started the show.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Mm-hmm, and I've been drinking all along.
- 43:47Speaker 4: I have, I've been talking a whole bunch.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:50Speaker 4: All right, the tasting notes for the 150th are like on the aroma, an inviting bouquet of vanilla beans, sweet honey, a hint of fresh leather, a nod to the saddles of the competing thoroughbreds.
- 44:03Speaker 4: And on the palate, first scent reveals a cascade of decadent caramel and toasted oat, dancing with spices reminiscent of spring and festivity in Louisville.
- 44:15Speaker 4: And on the finish, a lingering finish that stays with you, akin to the memory of a champion's past, with an elegant complexity and a touch of mint in which I got that mint off the first couple of soups.
- 44:28Speaker 4: I got that.
- 44:30Speaker 4: On the back end of the palate.
- 44:32Speaker 4: It's sort of a little bit minty and tipping its hat to the classic mint julep.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Mmm.
- 44:41Speaker 4: It's really good.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Now I'm going to pour.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Like I said, I've got the 148 in most things.
- 44:48Speaker 4: Yeah, there's about a half a bottle left.
- 44:52Speaker 4: Not after tonight.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Oh yeah, cause this, this boy's got a long journey.
- 45:02Speaker 4: I got a got a big job in the morning up in Little River, about an hour drive up then.
- 45:10Speaker 3: I got what's the weather on the ocean left tonight?
- 45:13Speaker 3: What's?
- 45:13Speaker 4: the weather on the ocean tonight.
- 45:14Speaker 4: What's your weather?
- 45:18Speaker 3: tonight Stars, stars tonight.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Stars tonight, so I'm excited.
- 45:31Speaker 4: I can see a ship way out in the distance.
- 45:31Speaker 4: There's stars out, yes, it's clear as dark.
- 45:34Speaker 2: I can see a ship way out in the distance what.
- 45:35Speaker 4: There's a star out there.
- 45:35Speaker 4: It's a clear spot.
- 45:37Speaker 3: There's sheep on the beach.
- 45:40Speaker 4: Sheep on the water Sheep.
- 45:42Speaker 4: There's a sheep, a sheep, a sheep on your water.
- 45:46Speaker 3: There's a sheep on the water way far away, and then it's.
- 45:51Speaker 3: I mean it's a total gym.
- 45:54Speaker 3: It's a total gym, it's a gym of a boat.
- 45:58Speaker 4: This is the gym of Kentucky, right here.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I can't wait till you say that next Tuesday to him.
- 46:06Speaker 4: I'm going to ask him.
- 46:06Speaker 4: I'm going to ask Dixon once he says it no, no, no, I'm not, you're going to pronounce it.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Nope, nope, nope, I'm not, You're going to pronounce it.
- 46:16Speaker 3: Nope, nope, nope, nope, gem Anyways.
- 46:18Speaker 3: So this was good, but you know once again, unless you're buying Woodford's Completely different, is it?
- 46:27Speaker 4: Yeah, oh yeah, completely different, but now see, this has been open for two years.
- 46:36Speaker 3: It changes everything.
- 46:37Speaker 3: This has been open Five years.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Wow, I really like this.
- 46:49Speaker 3: I really like this, this glass.
- 46:51Speaker 3: I'm going to have A vanilla custard.
- 46:54Speaker 3: I really like this glass.
- 46:55Speaker 3: It's like a vanilla custard.
- 46:58Speaker 3: All right, so let's get on to the next level.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Oh, I had a Woodford Reserve Glen, but I also have a blanton's glenn here and I'm going to.
- 47:22Speaker 3: This is really cool.
- 47:22Speaker 3: I mean, you're you first came up, uh, nash, in november of 2019.
- 47:25Speaker 3: If you remember, that will be five years that we've known each other this fall and you've changed my life.
- 47:37Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it.
- 47:38Speaker 3: But this bottle was one of the first bottles, this Blanton's Gold.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Now, this bottle of Blanton's Gold, it no longer has a Blanton's Gold topper.
- 47:52Speaker 3: This topper I purchased at the 2019 Kentucky Bourbon Festival and Nash set me up a three, seven-eighths full bottle of Blanton's Gold, brought that up to the.
- 48:06Speaker 3: I think you actually brought that up to the podcast, right, and you wanted to get and then, if you look behind me, I think everybody can see.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I brought that up.
- 48:22Speaker 4: It was like December 12th 2019, when I flew up there.
- 48:26Speaker 4: That was part of the initiation to become part of the group and that was my bottle that I brought up to the group.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Oh, it was yes, and then I still have it.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Yep, isn't that amazing.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:46Speaker 3: So back here is the Buffalo Trace stave that last year.
- 48:54Speaker 3: All of a sudden a package is being shipped to me and I have no idea what's going on.
- 49:03Speaker 3: It's coming from all of a sudden, it's like it's coming from Frankfurt and Buffalo, whatever, and it shows up.
- 49:10Speaker 3: It's this big, long, skinny, skinny thing and he basically got me the buffalo trace with the seven different, eight different toppers seven, seven, eight different, eight different toppers.
- 49:22Speaker 1: But this particular topper right here.
- 49:25Speaker 3: I bought this topper at the to my first, uh, kentucky bourbon festival, which was $3.50.
- 49:33Speaker 3: And I'm like what the heck?
- 49:37Speaker 3: It's like really Everybody.
- 49:38Speaker 3: You could just buy them and then send them in and they'll put it on a stave.
- 49:43Speaker 4: No that's the thing is there's a catch If you send those bought stuff coppers up there with the plain white cork without any any alcohol stain on it, they will.
- 49:56Speaker 4: They will send them back and will not mount.
- 49:58Speaker 3: Well, but they have to be used toppers but you wanted to make your gold collection so you could have a stave with all the gold toppers I have, I have one right and you needed the topper that you sent up to me, and I basically said, well, that's fine with me, and I took the topper I bought in 2019 and put it in the gold, into the gold, you know, and and I put a little bit of bourbon on it and, uh, it's been doing the job and you got the gold topper and you were able to yeah, that gold topper is pretty.
- 50:38Speaker 4: I mean it's pretty cool.
- 50:39Speaker 4: I'll send you this gold topper back.
- 50:43Speaker 3: No, just keep collecting more golds and send me.
- 50:45Speaker 3: Just have a package in six, seven years.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I can do that, Because I've probably got just about enough gold and I know I've got about three bottles of gold or four bottles of gold in my closet and I think I've got enough empty gold stoppers.
- 51:04Speaker 4: With those in the closet and this one, then I can get you the gold.
- 51:11Speaker 3: That would be amazing I don't need two staves.
- 51:12Speaker 4: Who does right?
- 51:12Speaker 4: Yeah, then I can get you the gold stage.
- 51:13Speaker 4: That would be amazing.
- 51:13Speaker 4: I don't need two stages.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Who does right?
- 51:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and what do you do with those?
- 51:19Speaker 3: You only display the regular and the gold.
- 51:21Speaker 3: You don't multiple display them everywhere.
- 51:25Speaker 4: I've got three regular stages there on my stills behind the other bottles.
- 51:31Speaker 3: Well, I barely have room for the regular one, you know, but if you got me a gold one, I would find a place for it.
- 51:36Speaker 3: But at the same time, uh, this was something, you know, kind of special, I really.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Uh, this, this bottle, means a lot to me.
- 51:45Speaker 3: I I think I drank blanton's gold before I drank blanton's, you know, because I was into everything, but I was, you know, at the time you were feeding us.
- 52:01Speaker 4: I don't think you'd ever had Blanton's before that.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Not Blanton's Gold, me and, uh, young nose.
- 52:13Speaker 3: Uh, when we were tasting this one, I remember pulling some mint, but you know that's had some time to oxidize and one thing that I could tell you is that every this has been almost five years, four and a half years in that bottle and I don't, you know, visit it a lot.
- 52:36Speaker 3: And this is.
- 52:37Speaker 3: I might finish this bottle for the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, but pour in this one.
- 52:44Speaker 3: One thing that is in common with, if I'm not mistaken, buffalo Trace, with, if I'm not mistaken, buffalo Trace, which is with Blanton's, is Blanton's is 94 proof right, and then Woodford's 95.4, right, or 90.4, 45 point, no, what, okay.
- 53:12Speaker 3: So what is?
- 53:13Speaker 3: It's a 90.4, 45 point, no, what?
- 53:15Speaker 3: Okay.
- 53:16Speaker 3: So what is?
- 53:16Speaker 3: It's a point for yeah what 90.4 and 94 for Blanton's.
- 53:24Speaker 3: So they don't know Blanton's is 93, 93.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Okay, there you go.
- 53:30Speaker 4: And Blanton's gold is 103.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Okay, there you go.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Yeah, and Blanton's gold is 103.
- 53:32Speaker 4: Ooh.
- 53:35Speaker 4: And then Blanton's straight from the barrel.
- 53:38Speaker 4: This particular one is 129.6.
- 53:42Speaker 4: So just the what we had on the bus was like 131.4 or 131.2.
- 53:53Speaker 3: So the label on this is handwritten for this gold and it was dumped on 114.19.
- 54:01Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 54:04Speaker 4: That's how you pick something up this one was straight from the barrel 117.2020.
- 54:11Speaker 4: But now this one.
- 54:13Speaker 4: Remember when I belonged to the overseas auction.
- 54:19Speaker 4: Look, this has got the overseas tax strip on it.
- 54:24Speaker 4: This one came from overseas, from the United Kingdom, so I will have to say I definitely pick up the mint on this one.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Now, the oak on this gold is insane.
- 54:43Speaker 3: This has no flavors of Blanton's to me of now at all this gold.
- 54:58Speaker 4: Matter of fact.
- 54:58Speaker 4: Uh, it's got the importer sticker on it right here.
- 55:06Speaker 3: You know, you gotta get, you gotta get back into that.
- 55:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I definitely did, Honestly, just like everywhere else.
- 55:13Speaker 4: I definitely do Just like everywhere else.
- 55:15Speaker 4: I bet the bottles.
- 55:17Speaker 4: You know the price went insane, unless you just get lucky.
- 55:21Speaker 4: I want to get on there and get lucky, because I'm super mad.
- 55:29Speaker 3: There's lots of ways that I'm trying to get lucky, and one way is not how does your wife feel about that?
- 55:38Speaker 3: I can.
- 55:40Speaker 3: I just have to be good for a while.
- 55:44Speaker 3: That's what I have to do to get lucky.
- 55:46Speaker 3: So anyways.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Okay, so you're on to the Blanton's gold, right?
- 55:51Speaker 4: No?
- 55:51Speaker 4: And the reason that we pulled out the Blantons gold, right?
- 55:53Speaker 4: No?
- 55:54Speaker 4: And the reason that we pulled out the Blantons?
- 55:57Speaker 4: Because we're not real big Blantons fans, because of the big hype we strayed away from it.
- 56:06Speaker 4: But it is Kentucky Derby week, yep.
- 56:11Speaker 4: And each one of the horses on the top, for each letter starting with the B, you have the horse rider.
- 56:22Speaker 4: He's setting up like he's walking into the starting gate, and then for each position of the track, like going down the front stretch, you have them where he's starting to lean down.
- 56:35Speaker 4: The tail is not quite straight up.
- 56:37Speaker 4: You have them when they're going into the turn, a different position.
- 56:42Speaker 4: You have them going down the back stretch, like this one right here Just happens to be the final end, the last letter end, because it's got the two dots, which signifies the apostrophe.
- 56:54Speaker 4: He is stretched out, coming down the homestretch tail straight out, full stride.
- 57:00Speaker 4: The rider is leaned down.
- 57:02Speaker 4: He is gunning for the roses right there.
- 57:04Speaker 4: That's the position that that horse is in.
- 57:08Speaker 4: So that was the meeting that I don't know whether it was Albert Flinton that came up with that idea, that came up with that idea, but the marketing team decided to come up with that for each letter, that each one of the horses represent a different part of that track, that they were positioned in for each different letter, and it just sort of happens that the regular Blanton's is a N with a cross between.
- 57:39Speaker 4: Okay, all right, here's one with an A, which is the third letter, as you can see the difference in how the rider is more upwards and prone and the legs are just now starting to stretch out, as compared to the end where that rider is laid down on his neck and the legs are strided out all four.
- 58:07Speaker 4: Anyway, like I say, it's pretty good, pretty ingenious marketing idea that they came up with.
- 58:16Speaker 4: And that's the only reason that we brought out the Blantons, because of the horses, the race horses and all so cheers, brother, to Blantons Gold.
- 58:28Speaker 4: Cheers First bottle that I brought you up and becoming part of the Scotchie Berkman Boys.
- 58:34Speaker 4: What a great, memorable moment, and I remember that weekend, oh so well.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Becoming the seventh member of the Scotchie Bourbon Boys and basically think, uh, as far as the group goes, as far as official members, uh, some people have dropped out and I think we're down to.
- 59:05Speaker 3: We were up to, we were up to eight, but I think actually, one, two, three, so my, it's me.
- 59:13Speaker 3: As far as the original members, right, yeah, it's me, you, roxy, roxy, and that's it right, that's it right.
- 59:25Speaker 3: So we have to pull back.
- 59:27Speaker 3: I think walker should be uh in, brought in uh, and then uh, also, I think it would be kind of cool to bring in jamie, uh, ct.
- 59:38Speaker 3: He is a member and so is.
- 59:40Speaker 3: So is uh whiskey?
- 59:42Speaker 3: there's no doubt they're members but we need to have a meeting.
- 59:45Speaker 3: Uh uh, whiskey's been talking about having.
- 59:48Speaker 3: Uh uh, he wants to sometime in june or july.
- 59:54Speaker 3: Uh, have a bottle share where people come up and we do it.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: And you know, do a bottle share.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: And.
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: I think we'll also.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: We should go to that tradition, that, uh, that they actually bring a bottle, a special bottle.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you know, to open up and share, and share with the group and leave as a commemorative to you know.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the podcast has evolved, the group has evolved, but I really think the base of the group we should reinstall.
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: But it's so much time and effort these days.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: I agree, you know what we're doing and all the stuff that we do you know, it's just been fantastic.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Now I'm gonna throw out the last part.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Um, we didn't, and you, you weren't ready, but maker's mark is a big part of the derby also, and so I've got a couple bottles here.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: This is one bottle that Randy, initially, that night that he named you Super Nash, he brought and he came to the house in Bardstown, kentucky, bardstown.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: Yeah, he brought this special bottle, this bottle.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Here is the bottle.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: It is the pick, it's a private select and it says Oak Stave Selection by Bill Samuels Jr, and Bill signed it.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: So I've kept this pick.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: It's unopened.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: If it was there, I would have cracked that open years ago.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: No no, no, no.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: It's just like, if I'm not mistaken, I mean that's who we just met when we were in Kentucky.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: I mean he came down and talked to us.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: I mean it was such an awesome evening, right, absolutely.
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: And I was just, you know, like I said, when I went up there I wasn't sure that it was actually going to happen, you know, and then when I seen him walking up, and then yeah, and then he come up, and then shook my hand right off the bat, you know, and right off the bat.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: I heard the Scotchie Bourbon boy was down here.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: It's so funny because you got CT downstairs, you left, and you left under the pretense because we were having dinner a steak dinner with Stephen Fonte.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: But you guys were doing this under a veil of secrecy because we were sitting there having dinner, having dinner with steven fonte, mr yellowstone, we knew he was up there.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: All of a sudden, you're going to the bathroom and and uh, ct is just like losing his shit.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: He's sitting there.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: He's sitting there in the booth, he's squirming, he can't handle it.
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: He's like nash ain't you know.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: He's like nash ain't going to.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: He's like nash ain't going to the bathroom.
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: I'm like what?
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: He's like Nash ain't going to the bathroom.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: He's making gestures because I'm in between him and, yes, he was losing his mind.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: It was pretty funny.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: Did you see the owner's wife?
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: When I got up she was standing right there.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: What do you need the bathroom?
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: I was like, yes, she pointed at the back.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: She's like, well, there's one right back there.
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: And I was like, well, don't you have one up front?
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: Because I knew the stairs.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: The one upstairs was up front.
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: She said well, yeah, there's one up front near the front door.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: That's the one I wanted you.
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: That's why I did that, I mean it was gone a good while.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: What a night what a night in to meet bill.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: And so I have this bottle.
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: This bottle will be probably put up next to the one that fred no did for bookers, but every distillery loves the kentucky der, whether it's Jim Beam, whether it's Maker's Mark.
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: I'm going to basically pour myself something that I believe that you this is an OHLQ exclusive from 2022, and it's crumble coffee cake, oh yeah.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: So in honor of the Kentucky Derby and you know now does I believe Makers releases a special Derby bottle too, right?
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Sure they do.
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: It'll be a state release like that and with the Kentucky Derby.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: But I've seen that Maker's Bottle with the dip and the regular standard Maker's Bottle with artwork from the Kentucky Derby.
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: I've seen that with you know, maker's releases those.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: I believe that this artist of the glass where's the glass?
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: Yes, was the specific artist that did the Maker's Mark bottle.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, that's you know.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: Wiley Cotto.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: The native Kentuckian is named Wiley Cotto.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it could be.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it could be.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: All I know is that Sherry and Rachel did a good job, because now I have a Kentucky Derby glass.
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: And I don't have to go crazy over all the different bottles.
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: Oh, now that I look close, this bottle right here, the rider and the horse is basically made up of rose petals.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Yes, I don't know if you can see that.
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: I could just see it close.
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: Yes, I could see that right off the bat but yeah, they're all the whole horse and the rider is red roses.
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: That is so cool.
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: Keeneland bottle has the artwork.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: I'm not sure about the Derby bottle.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: All right, anyways.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: So that was Walker chiming in.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: So, oh, crumble cake, coffee crumble cake.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: That's so good, does it?
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: taste like coffee, crumble cake or caramel and brown sugar.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: It tastes like coffee crumble and Booker's.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: So what did you think of the last batch of Booker's?
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: That was the thing about that batch was, when I drink Booker's, usually the sweetness of it.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: What happened?
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Okay, the sweetness of that Booker's usually the sweetness of it.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: What happened?
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: Okay, the sweetness of that Booker's honestly Nash was One of the sweetest.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: Oh yeah, when I was drinking it it was like confectionary sugar and I was worried my teeth were going to rot out of my mouth.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: It gave me stress.
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: That's how sweet that Booker's is.
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: And it's so bizarre because normally you get caramel sweetness or you get vanilla sweetness or you get you know flavors of sweetness.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: You know you get the peanut flavor and so you might get a little.
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: It was, it didn't have a whole lot of peanut, oh no, of sweetness.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: you know you get the peanut flavor like, and so you might get a little.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: It was oh no, it was straight up.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: It was straight up powdered sugar sweetness like no vanilla, no caramel, just sugar once you get on one of those elephant ears at a fair.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: One of those elephant ears at a fair.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: Well, you get that, that doughiness and that now, just so, yeah, yeah, but just so you know, the elephant ear crown actually had the deep fried oil taste at the same time.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: That was insane.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: That was really that I.
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: You know it's like I would.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: I would have thought I would give that bottle away.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: But honestly, that that crown, that crown bottle, I've never.
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: That is a coveted bottle.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: That was some good whiskey right there.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: I gotta ask you, when you drank that that uh, blanton's Gold, the 103 brew, did you pick up any of that mintiness?
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: Just not what I remember from the podcast, because this bottle, I mean this one was this is a bottle March 22nd 2022.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: So probably been open about a year and a half maybe, and you see how much of that.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: But I'll tell you what I'm getting that spiciness, you know, that white pepper, that nutmeg, no, just a tad bit of mint on the finish.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: So, nash, I'm going to challenge you.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: It is May 2nd, tomorrow's May 3rd.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: Okay, I want you, by the 4th of July, to be in your podcasting environment that you've created, so I just gave a date on it and I'm going to say something Tiny is like Tiny is like Tiny is like that's a lot of work.
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: Tiny is Well.
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: I'll tell you one thing we just got we got the living room painted last weekend, so, so, like all my surround sound speakers are like, if I would have podcasted it in the bedroom tonight, all my surround sound speakers and a bunch of other crap would have been piled in behind me because all that's out of the living room.
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: But we got all that painted.
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: She's just finishing up the trim.
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: And then I got to put the wood floor down.
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: I'm not worried about.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: I get that down, then I'm going into the bar room.
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: May, June, July 4th.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: So now, there you go.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: So you got May and June to get the speakers out.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: So just so you know, I just wanted to try and motivate you Plus two.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: I've got a guy coming friday, tomorrow, which I'm not going to be there, but I'm going to call them and tell them because I'll be out of the room.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: But I've got got to have my house.
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: Gotta have my house done, uh.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: Final wrap right and part of your house.
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: I got to get that done by the end of May, Okay but part of having I'll be in there Part of having your house done, I will be behind.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you got.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: Yeah, because part of having your house done.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: I have to have my whole house done, Okay but part of it is going underneath and running those wires.
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I've got to do that.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: Well, as soon as I put the floor down, I've got to go underneath there to run the new speaker wires for all the surround sound.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: So at the same time I'll run that internet for the computer for the bar.
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: At the same time, I'll run that internet for the computer for the bar.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: So Because I look, you did all that awesome stuff and now I mean, what better background could you have than Myrtle Beach right now?
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: But anyways, Wow, Wow.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: That crumble cake has that is some intense whiskey right there.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: Fixing to finish off with some intense whiskey, and that's this 126 point 1296, blanton, straight from the barrel.
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: I mean all tonight we've had people internationally joining in.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: Yeah, the Blantons, hey, I'll make a deal, I'll finish off this.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: You haven't said anything about anybody on Facebook or anything like that chiming in.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: I have too, my co-worker Dwayne Davisworker Dwayne Davis.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: Hey, dwayne, what you drinking tonight?
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: Because so I was.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: I set him up with four bottles.
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: I said he's waiting for the French lick picks to come in, but in the meantime I'm just like, uh well, here's some stuff.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: And he did like larceny.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: So All right, getting down to the wire.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Yep All right, and that is a, that is a Kentucky Derby, uh, reference.
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: It's down to the wire.
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: Picks in the four, my final four on the podcast.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: All right, I'll go get mine.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: Look at the color on this Straight.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, what a big four.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: Look at the richness color of that straight from the back.
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: That is a 129.6.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: Dude, that's a huge pour.
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: That is a 117, 2020 barrel date, well, shipped back from the UK straight to the US of A.
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: All right, I've got a question for you.
- 1:14:37Speaker 4: Are your picks 1, 2, and 3, first place, second place, third place for the 150th run-in of the Kentucky Derby?
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: All right, let's get up.
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: All right, I'll go to share screen.
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: The share screen.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: And here is poll position.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: All right, I am putting my money on the 10 to 1 favorite of Forever Young.
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: This is a Japanese horse.
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: That is my number one pick.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: My number two pick is Sierra Leone.
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: And my number three pick is Fierceness.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: Awesome.
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: Well, you actually picked two of mine.
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: My number one pick for the winning horse of the 150th round of the Kentucky Derby is going to be Sierra Leone.
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: What.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: Sure Chuka.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: Copra.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: No, Sierra Leone.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: Sierra Leone Three to one odds.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: All right, Sierra Leone.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: Sierra Leone Three to one odds.
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: All right, Sierra Leone.
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: You're going to put 150 on that.
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: Yep 150 on Sierra Leone.
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: My number two pick is going to be fierceness at five to two odds right now, and my number three pick is Catching Freedom.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: Catching Freedom Well.
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: Those are my three picks for the running of the 150th Kentucky Derby.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: Did you write mine down?
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: Oh, I ain't got a pen.
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: Mine were Forever Young.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: Sierra Leone and Fierceness, there you go.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: Mine's Sierra Leone Fierceness and Catching Freedom.
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: Awesome, there we go.
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: I'll write those down.
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: I got the sheet of all the horses right here and this morning's odds, and I will write your name and my name.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: So are you actually putting stuff down on that Money?
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: Well, I gotta take Sherry up there Sunday, but I'm thinking about we might go up there Saturday, a day early, so that I can get some money down on the horses.
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: So I could do it through an app.
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: So I'll probably do it through the app, but I've See.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: I can't do it through an app, I know when I was in Florida, I went to bet the Super Bowl and my DraftKings, which I can do here in Ohio was like no, they wouldn't because I was in Florida.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: So anyways you gotta put your address no, it tracks you where you are, yeah.
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: In.
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: Florida so anyways, you got to put your address.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: Yeah, no, it tracks you where you are.
