- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Friday, it is the 5th of
- 0:17September and bully for you make it to the end of this week.
- 0:22Great to have your company. Thank you for inviting me in.
- 0:24No matter what is happening in your part of the world, in your
- 0:27day, you have decided to take a moment, whether it's part of
- 0:32your routine or whether you are just going out on a limb trying
- 0:35something new. Wherever you are, however you
- 0:37come to be here, so good that you have done that.
- 0:41And we can read the beginning of the next chapter of Proverbs.
- 0:45That's right. We are going to read 7 Proverbs
- 0:47today, and we are going to reflect on them and hear what it
- 0:51is that God has to share with us through this ancient wisdom
- 0:55delivered to us as we read together Proverbs 16 one to
- 0:59seven. We can make our own plans, but
- 1:13the Lord gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own
- 1:20eyes, but the Lord examines their motives.
- 1:26Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
- 1:33The Lord has made everything for His own purposes, even the
- 1:36wicked. For a day of disaster the Lord
- 1:42detests the proud. They will surely be punished.
- 1:49Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin.
- 1:53By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.
- 1:59When people's lives please the Lord, even their enemies are at
- 2:02peace with them. And again, we can make our own
- 2:09plans, but the Lord gives the right answer.
- 2:14People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines
- 2:18their motives. Commit your actions to the Lord,
- 2:24and your plans will succeed. The Lord has made everything for
- 2:30His own purposes, even the wicked.
- 2:32For a day of disaster, the Lord detests the proud.
- 2:39They will surely be punished. Unfailing love and faithfulness
- 2:46make atonement for sin. By fearing the Lord, people
- 2:50avoid evil. When people's lives please the
- 2:55Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them.
- 3:08Our Father, you are wise far beyond our ability to
- 3:12comprehend, and when you move, you move with an eternal
- 3:18perspective. You sit outside of time and
- 3:21space, as well as here, right next to us, but you have the
- 3:24ability to see from the dawn of time to the end of time in one
- 3:29glance. In fact, you made that time.
- 3:33And here we are, Your servants, Your handiwork.
- 3:38And so, Lord, it's no surprise then that so much of what you do
- 3:44just baffles us. And in verse 4, the writer of
- 3:48the Proverbs says that you have made everything for your own
- 3:51purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.
- 3:55And for us, that just boggles our mind that you would make
- 3:58wickedness for the day, that they would be brought down in
- 4:01disaster. And while it makes no sense to
- 4:04us, that's OK because we don't need to understand all that you
- 4:09do. We just need to trust that you
- 4:12are good and that your intentions are perfect and that
- 4:18your plans are perfect. And in the fullness of time, you
- 4:22will have your way. So we just surrender ourselves
- 4:27to you, our all powerful and all knowing God, and pray that you
- 4:32give us your peace, your acceptance, and your
- 4:37understanding that as you move in ways that baffle us and break
- 4:43our hearts sometimes and enrage us sometimes.
- 4:47Or that we would continue to hold firm to our trust that you
- 4:51indeed are God of all you. Hold all in your hands, and you
- 4:56will bring everything to the place where you wanted to be.
- 5:02So we relinquish to you our own resistance and what to us feels
- 5:06like our own wisdom, and just submit ourselves to your
- 5:10authority and your rule and your love and provision.
- 5:14Hold us and give us that peace. In the name of Jesus we pray.
- 5:19Amen.
