- Rob (AI host): You're in ChatGPT. You ask for a segment, an email, and an A B test. Rob (AI host): And it builds them in HubSpot. Dana (AI host): Without opening HubSpot? Rob (AI host): That's the pitch for the latest HubSpot connector for ChatGPT. Rob (AI host): With some fine print we'll get to. Dana (AI host): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped. Let's go. Narrator (AI voice): This is Sidekick's What Just Shipped, presented by Sidekick Strategies. Narrator (AI voice): Your hosts, Rob and Dana, are AI. Narrator (AI voice): The voices are synthetic, the research is real, and humans check every claim before it reaches you. Dana (AI host): Welcome in! I'm Dana, and yes, Rob and I are AI hosts. Rob (AI host): Talking about an AI connecting to another AI. It's a little meta today. Dana (AI host): Very meta. Okay, start at the beginning. Where did this come from? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's developer changelog says the connector rolled out first for deep research, then expanded to everyday chat questions, and was live to all customers as of July 24, 2025. Dana (AI host): And back then it could do what? Rob (AI host): Read only. Contacts, companies, deals, and tickets, with their associations and properties. No engagements. Dana (AI host): So a lookup tool. Rob (AI host): A lookup tool. Then in August 2026, our research covered a big expansion. Rob (AI host): Seven new areas, lined up with what HubSpot's MCP server offers. Dana (AI host): Seven. Hit me. Rob (AI host): Campaign management and attribution. Landing page creation and content analytics. Leads records. Rob (AI host): Custom and activatable objects, like appointments, projects, and listings. Plain language CRM queries. Dana (AI host): That's five. Rob (AI host): Schema discovery, where ChatGPT learns your account's objects and properties before it acts. Rob (AI host): And sending product feedback to HubSpot from the chat. Dana (AI host): Okay, schema discovery sounds quietly huge. Rob (AI host): Our research calls it the most underrated feature. Rob (AI host): Have ChatGPT describe your data model before any write actions. Dana (AI host): Then October? Rob (AI host): October 2026. Rob (AI host): Our research says it went from lookup tool to something much closer to a full working environment. Dana (AI host): Meaning? Rob (AI host): Create, preview, A B test, and schedule marketing emails. Draft and publish blog posts. Rob (AI host): Create and publish website pages. Build segments. Pull saved reports. Search and summarize Help Desk conversations. Rob (AI host): And create CRM properties and pipelines. Dana (AI host): Wait, publish? From a chat window? Rob (AI host): According to our research, yes. There are previews inside ChatGPT with edit links back to HubSpot. Dana (AI host): And the AEO and intent stuff? Rob (AI host): AEO tools are in there, but our research says they need Marketing Hub Professional or Enterprise. Rob (AI host): Intent signals too, for your tracked companies. Dana (AI host): So who actually gets it today? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page, updated October 19, lists all products and plans. Rob (AI host): Available to all HubSpot customers across all tiers with an OpenAI account. Dana (AI host): Any ChatGPT plan? Rob (AI host): Here's a wrinkle. The 2025 changelog said paid OpenAI plans only. Rob (AI host): HubSpot's ChatGPT product page now says a ChatGPT account at any tier. Rob (AI host): We're going with the current page, but check your own workspace. Dana (AI host): Got it. And some features need more than the free plan. Rob (AI host): Right. Rob (AI host): HubSpot's product page says content analytics, custom objects, and campaign or landing page actions need an eligible HubSpot subscription and the right permissions. Dana (AI host): Okay. Quick break, then the guardrails. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Hey, it's George B. Thomas from Sidekick Strategies. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Full honesty, this is my AI voice clone, made with my permission. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): The ChatGPT connector mirrors your HubSpot permissions exactly. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): So if your portal's permissions are inconsistent today, those inconsistencies show up in ChatGPT too. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): At Sidekick, we fix what's broken and build what's missing, and we train your humans to run it. George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Want your permissions and data model ready before AI starts writing to them? George B. Thomas (AI voice clone): Book a free strategy call at Sidekick Strategies dot com. Dana (AI host): And we're back. Guardrails. Because this thing writes now. Rob (AI host): First, permissions. HubSpot says the connector respects the user permissions defined in HubSpot. Rob (AI host): A rep only sees the deals they can already see. Dana (AI host): Who sets it up? Rob (AI host): Super Admins and users with App Marketplace Access can connect it without approval. Rob (AI host): Everyone else needs a Super Admin to approve it first, and pick which data permissions it gets. Dana (AI host): And then each person? Rob (AI host): Each person connects with their own HubSpot login. Rob (AI host): And our research says existing users may need to reconnect to unlock the new capabilities. Dana (AI host): Okay, now the part I really care about. Can it change things without asking? Rob (AI host): It can, if you let it. HubSpot recommends setting write tools to Needs Approval. Rob (AI host): If you set it to Always allow, edits may happen without asking. Dana (AI host): Oh, that's a setting people will skip. Rob (AI host): Probably. And two more limits from HubSpot's help page. Rob (AI host): Bulk create or update is ten records at a time. Dana (AI host): Fine. And the second? Rob (AI host): Custom validation rules, including pipeline stage validations, aren't applied when you create or update records through the connector. Dana (AI host): Wait. So rules I'd set up in HubSpot could just get skipped? Rob (AI host): That's how HubSpot's help page reads. So review every proposed change. Rob (AI host): HubSpot also says actions are attributed in the audit log to both the user and the connector. Dana (AI host): Good. Now, anything that didn't line up? Rob (AI host): One. HubSpot's product page and our research say ChatGPT can work with custom objects. Rob (AI host): But a FAQ on HubSpot's own help page says custom objects are not yet available. Dana (AI host): So which is it? Rob (AI host): We don't know. Rob (AI host): The two pages conflict, so test it in your own portal before you count on it. Dana (AI host): Fair. And data training? Rob (AI host): HubSpot's help page says on ChatGPT Enterprise, Business, or Education plans, connector data isn't used for training. Rob (AI host): On consumer plans, you can opt out in your ChatGPT settings. Dana (AI host): Okay. Monday. Give me three. Rob (AI host): One. Set write tools to Needs Approval before anyone starts. Dana (AI host): Two? Rob (AI host): Two. Rob (AI host): Ask it to describe your data model first, then test a read only question and check it matches HubSpot. Dana (AI host): And three? Rob (AI host): Three. Rob (AI host): Pick one high friction task, like a weekly report, and run only that through ChatGPT first. Dana (AI host): Approve, check, then start small. Dana (AI host): That's our show. Dana (AI host): The HubSpot connector for ChatGPT went from read only lookups to building and publishing real work. Dana (AI host): With the guardrails on you. Rob (AI host): Our full research is on the HubSpot Updates page at Sidekick Strategies dot com. Dana (AI host): Thanks for listening to Sidekick's What Just Shipped.
