Let's hear it once more: Ich hätte gern einen Kaffee. Luna: Ich hätte gern einen Kaffee. Lucas: Perfect. Now a shorter version: Einen Kaffee, bitte. Luna: Einen Kaffee, bitte. Just 'A coffee, please.' Lucas: Yeah. Super common. Imagine you're at the counter — you say Einen Kaffee, bitte. with a smile. Luna: Einen Kaffee, bitte. Got it. But what if I want it with milk and sugar? Lucas: Great question. You say: Mit Milch und Zucker. Luna: Mit Milch und Zucker. Milk and sugar. Lucas: Yep. So full order: Ich hätte gern einen Kaffee mit Milch und Zucker. Luna: Ich hätte gern einen Kaffee mit Milch und Zucker. That feels natural. Lucas: It does. Now after you enjoy your coffee, you'll want to pay. Two phrases for that: Zahlen, bitte. — 'Check, please.' And if you're leaving cash and saying 'keep the change', you say Stimmt so. Luna: Zahlen, bitte. and Stimmt so. So 'zahlen' is to pay — and 'stimmt so' literally is like 'that's fine'? Lucas: Exactly. Means 'the amount is correct' — you're telling them to keep the change.
