- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. Hi everyone. We are so happy to be here again. Lucas: Today we are adding two very useful verbs to your toolkit. They are small but powerful. Luna: I love learning new verbs. It makes me feel like I can do more. Lucas: It really does. Our first verb is 'å kjenne'. This means to know or to be familiar with someone or something. Luna: Oh, that sounds friendly. Let me try saying it. 'Å kjenne'. Lucas: Exactly. 'Å kjenne'. Say it slowly. 'Å kjenne'. Luna: 'Å kjenne'. Okay. That felt smooth. Lucas: Right. Now let us make a sentence. 'Jeg kjenner deg'. This means I know you. Luna: Let me try. 'Jeg kjenner deg'. Oh, that is nice. It feels personal. Lucas: Yes. And if you want to say I know it, as in an object or a place, you say 'Jeg kjenner det'. Luna: Let me repeat that. 'Jeg kjenner det'. I know it. Lucas: Perfect. Let us practice 'Jeg kjenner deg' one more time together. Luna: Together? Okay. 'Jeg kjenner deg'. Lucas: Good. Now our second verb is 'måtte'. This is a modal verb meaning must or have to. Luna: Ooh. This one is serious. Like when you have a deadline. Lucas: Exactly. You use it for obligation. Let us start with the infinitive. 'Å måtte'. Luna: 'Å måtte'. Hmm. It has a soft sound at the end. Lucas: Yes. Just keep it gentle. 'Å måtte'. Now let us make a sentence. 'Jeg må gå'. Luna: 'Jeg må gå'. I have to go. Or I must go. Lucas: Correct. And for you, you would say 'Du må vente'. You have to wait. Luna: Let me try that. 'Du må vente'. Wait... that sounds urgent. Lucas: It can be. But in polite contexts, it just means you need to do something. Let us say 'Jeg må gå' again. Luna: 'Jeg må gå'. Yeah. I hear you. Lucas: Great. Before we continue, I want to mention Fexingo. Let us mix them up. Imagine you see a friend. You might say 'Jeg kjenner deg'. Luna: And then you remember you are late, so you add 'Jeg må gå'. Lucas: Perfect scenario. So, 'Jeg kjenner deg. Jeg må gå.' I know you. I have to go. Luna: Let me try that whole sequence. 'Jeg kjenner deg. Jeg må gå.' Oh, that flows well. Lucas: It does. Now let us try the other combination. Maybe you are telling someone they need to wait. Luna: Okay. 'Jeg kjenner det. Du må vente.' I know it. You have to wait. Lucas: Very good. Let us say 'Jeg kjenner det' one more time. Focus on the 'k' sound. Luna: 'Jeg kjenner det'. There it is. Clear and distinct. Lucas: Excellent. And 'Du må vente'. Repeat that for me. Luna: 'Du må vente'. Yeah. You must wait. Lucas: Right. Remember, 'å kjenne' is about familiarity. 'Å måtte' is about necessity. Luna: Got it. Familiarity and necessity. Two big concepts in just two words. Lucas: Two big verbs. Let us say 'Jeg kjenner deg' again. Slowly. Luna: 'Jeg kjenner deg'. Okay. I feel confident now. Lucas: Good. And 'Jeg må gå'. One last time. Luna: 'Jeg må gå'. Yes. I am ready. Lucas: Wonderful work today, Luna. You picked those up quickly. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. It was fun. Especially after hearing them used together. Lucas: That is the key. Use them in context. Practice 'Jeg kjenner det' and 'Du må vente' on your own. Luna: I will. Thanks for listening, everyone. See you next time. Lucas: See you next time. Keep practicing.
