- 0:00Speaker 1: What was your general take away from today.
- 0:03Speaker 2: No, we're very excited, obviously, when you have an opportunity
- 0:07Speaker 2: to sign your captain for another two years, your leading scorer,
- 0:11Speaker 2: a player that exemplifies so much that the Seattle cracking
- 0:14Speaker 2: are about. You know, we are just extaductive of Jordan
- 0:19Speaker 2: part of our organization for two more years.
- 0:22Speaker 3: You know, he's a great leader for our young players.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I think even with the injury last year, he's taken
- 0:26Speaker 2: his focus on training to another level. And then you
- 0:30Speaker 2: look at his on ice production and continues to help
- 0:32Speaker 2: us win and and has put.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Us in a playoff position here right now.
- 0:35Speaker 2: So excited from that, and then with the addition of
- 0:38Speaker 2: Bobby McMahon, we wanted to look and try to add
- 0:42Speaker 2: a piece to our group, someone who could play in
- 0:44Speaker 2: our top nine. We look at Bobby as a player
- 0:46Speaker 2: that brings speed to our lineup, gets pucks the net,
- 0:49Speaker 2: gets the net, and I think can come compliment the
- 0:52Speaker 2: rest of our group very well. And we talked a
- 0:54Speaker 2: lot about making sure our chemistry with our group stayed
- 0:57Speaker 2: the same, making sure that our young players still had
- 1:00Speaker 2: an opportunity to grow, and just the fact that you know,
- 1:04Speaker 2: Bobby has a relationship with Lane from last year, I
- 1:06Speaker 2: think we'll just make the transition that much easier to
- 1:08Speaker 2: Seattle here.
- 1:09Speaker 4: What was Lane able to tell you about him.
- 1:11Speaker 2: From his experienced coach last year, Well, I think the
- 1:13Speaker 2: little things that we touched on right, just his speed,
- 1:15Speaker 2: his attacking style. You look at Bobby's history, He's worked
- 1:20Speaker 2: at every level to get his opportunity to be a
- 1:22Speaker 2: successful story at the National Hockey League, his ability to
- 1:25Speaker 2: play up and down the lineup. We just felt it
- 1:28Speaker 2: was something that would fit very well with our group.
- 1:30Speaker 5: From a skill set standpoint, How is he unique or
- 1:33Speaker 5: different than what you currently have on your ros.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Well, I think if you look at it, we're a
- 1:38Speaker 2: team that needs to continue to work on getting pucks
- 1:41Speaker 2: the net, increasing our shot totals. That's what Bobby does,
- 1:45Speaker 2: and you know, I think we're a team that wants
- 1:47Speaker 2: to continue when we're playing well, when we're creating opportunities,
- 1:49Speaker 2: we're utilizing our speed out there hard on the ford check.
- 1:53Speaker 2: These are elements that I think he brings and helps
- 1:55Speaker 2: our group.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Do you see him as a top six forward.
- 1:57Speaker 3: On your look?
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think what we're doing that will be up to
- 2:00Speaker 2: Lane on where he puts them. Into the lineup from
- 2:02Speaker 2: that standpoint, You've heard myself talk a lot about it,
- 2:05Speaker 2: you heard Lane talk a lot about it. That we
- 2:06Speaker 2: certainly want to be a four line team. I think
- 2:08Speaker 2: sometimes even just look at the time on ice, you
- 2:11Speaker 2: don't know which way, what is our first line, what's
- 2:13Speaker 2: your second, what's your third, what's your fourth? So we're
- 2:15Speaker 2: just giving Lane more opportunities and to sort of set
- 2:18Speaker 2: up the lineup.
- 2:19Speaker 6: How did the market kind of shape up for And
- 2:21Speaker 6: I'm sure you were having discussions about other players as well, right, yep,
- 2:24Speaker 6: for some of the like really top top tier type
- 2:27Speaker 6: of players that might have been available out there.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I've seen reports that it was pretty high for some
- 2:32Speaker 1: of the asks. What did you kind of come across
- 2:35Speaker 1: or as much of you to share.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Look, there's always a lot of conversations going on.
- 2:39Speaker 2: There's always you know, discussions on big trades and big,
- 2:44Speaker 2: big acquisitions. Look, we certainly wanted to be involved with him.
- 2:47Speaker 2: We wanted to be aggressive and trying to help out
- 2:49Speaker 2: our team here at the today. It's something that I
- 2:52Speaker 2: touched on before, wanting to find a balance of adding
- 2:55Speaker 2: to our group but not blocking our young kids. And
- 2:58Speaker 2: I'm not just talking about Berkeley. Kattner's right, but you
- 3:00Speaker 2: look at a player like Melanson or Winterton and what
- 3:02Speaker 2: they've come up and given us a certain element to
- 3:05Speaker 2: our group here, and we want to make sure that
- 3:06Speaker 2: they continue to have ice time and continue to develop
- 3:09Speaker 2: as you know, as players. So it was a sort
- 3:12Speaker 2: of finding that unique balance here of you know, adding
- 3:16Speaker 2: to the group but not blocking players from our group.
- 3:18Speaker 3: And we're happy about it.
- 3:19Speaker 2: But from the bigger picture things, there's always going to
- 3:22Speaker 2: be a ton of discussion, whether things get done now.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Or at the draft or later on the summer.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I think you're at least initiating a lot of conversations
- 3:28Speaker 2: that can could go on.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Higher.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Sing for your body, Well, look, I think he's playing
- 3:35Speaker 2: extremely wanted right now. We I think, you know, he's
- 3:39Speaker 2: a developing player even at his age right now, like
- 3:41Speaker 2: he's worked his way up from you know, obviously been
- 3:43Speaker 2: free agent in college to the HL, at the American
- 3:45Speaker 2: OCKE League, towns, the National Acte League. Yeah, he's a
- 3:48Speaker 2: developing player. How high you can get, I think that's still.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Up to him.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And well that's what we're looking forward to interacting with
- 3:53Speaker 2: him on a daily occurrence here. But no it's a
- 3:57Speaker 2: it's a it's a real success story for how hard
- 3:59Speaker 2: he's worked. And that's something that Lane just touched on,
- 4:01Speaker 2: is just even maybe when the goals aren't going in
- 4:04Speaker 2: or the office, is that going in.
- 4:06Speaker 3: He has that work ethic, that real backup B game.
- 4:09Speaker 7: Jason, you went into this week with four veterans on
- 4:14Speaker 7: expiring contracts. One is now tied up, you have three others.
- 4:20Speaker 7: What went into thinking, well, do we want to get
- 4:24Speaker 7: assets back from them?
- 4:26Speaker 1: Do we want to resign them?
- 4:28Speaker 7: Do we just want to make sure that they're around
- 4:31Speaker 7: for the playoff push?
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yep.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Look, it's a situation where we looked at it. We
- 4:36Speaker 2: we've stayed in touch with our representatives throughout this process. Yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 2: we could have maybe put some out in a trade
- 4:42Speaker 2: market and get something, but this this team's in a
- 4:44Speaker 2: plaoff position, you know, and in previous years we've we've
- 4:48Speaker 2: made some difficult decisions and let some good players go
- 4:50Speaker 2: because we weren't in a playoff situation and and got
- 4:53Speaker 2: draft picks back and got draft assets back. You know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: even this year we took out a NHL player to
- 5:01Speaker 2: get draft picks back. We felt it was now time
- 5:03Speaker 2: to utilize some of those picks and bringing a player
- 5:06Speaker 2: like Bobby here into the mix. And we clearly understand
- 5:09Speaker 2: it's going to be a tough month here right you
- 5:10Speaker 2: look at our schedule, it's going to be a challenging month.
- 5:13Speaker 2: It's been the story of the National Hockey right the
- 5:15Speaker 2: parody of the league. But we're ecstatic that we're in
- 5:18Speaker 2: the mix. We're in a playoff spot right now, and
- 5:21Speaker 2: we think this is a great experience for young players
- 5:24Speaker 2: and that's why we wanted to keep this team together
- 5:26Speaker 2: and hopefully add which we did in Bobby.
- 5:28Speaker 7: And we tell us exactly the numbers in turn down
- 5:32Speaker 7: to the penny that you're offering to the.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Other three players without a doubt.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Look, it's a situation where we're extact to have.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Them part of our group here. We've talked to them.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I think there's always a balance of folks in on
- 5:48Speaker 2: the business side and folks seeing in hockey, and right now,
- 5:50Speaker 2: like our main focus is to help this group and
- 5:53Speaker 2: stay focused on hockey, and.
- 5:56Speaker 3: We're just ecstatic about this group right now.
- 5:58Speaker 4: I think I saw that it's a conditional second that
- 6:00Speaker 4: you're sending to Toronto as a part of what's what's
- 6:02Speaker 4: the condition on.
- 6:02Speaker 8: That with you.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I think I believe the two picks that we have
- 6:06Speaker 2: going through here again, I believe it's where we have
- 6:09Speaker 2: Winnipeg and Columbus's pick.
- 6:10Speaker 3: It's the lower of those two picks.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Is there a hope that McMahon is with the team
- 6:14Speaker 1: beyond the season?
- 6:16Speaker 3: Look, it's we certainly have the space.
- 6:18Speaker 2: It's I think right now what we've sort of talked
- 6:21Speaker 2: to his representatives about is, let's just let's just focus
- 6:24Speaker 2: on him get into Seattle here, just so everyone's no,
- 6:27Speaker 2: he's probably won't be in the lineup tomorrow and for
- 6:29Speaker 2: a couple of days just from an immigration standpoint, but
- 6:32Speaker 2: we'll get him to Seattle, get him part of our mix,
- 6:34Speaker 2: and just sort of see how he fits in. I
- 6:36Speaker 2: think it's a situation of seeing how he fits in
- 6:38Speaker 2: with our group and making sure that he likes Seattle,
- 6:40Speaker 2: he likes his role here, and then we'll see where
- 6:42Speaker 2: it goes in the off season.
- 6:43Speaker 9: Jase, when you talk about adding to the current group,
- 6:45Speaker 9: but how much did you consider packaging current guys for
- 6:49Speaker 9: maybe other deals or how much we're trying to balance,
- 6:51Speaker 9: you know, those moving around those assets.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Look, there's always a balance of trying to find different things.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So being like I said to you before bringing veter in,
- 7:00Speaker 2: but still giving your young kids a lot of an opportunity.
- 7:03Speaker 2: And I think that's what we're just really happy about
- 7:06Speaker 2: in the second half here. How some of our players
- 7:08Speaker 2: have come up from Coachella Valley and been impact players
- 7:11Speaker 2: for us. I think just overall, you look at it
- 7:13Speaker 2: from about I don't know what the dad is exactly
- 7:16Speaker 2: December twentieth, you know, this team has played very well,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and to get through January with seventeen games, you know,
- 7:23Speaker 2: it was a big part of our depth. And whether
- 7:25Speaker 2: it's Ben Myers, whether it's Ryan Winterton, Jacob Malants and
- 7:29Speaker 2: these guys who've been in Coachella Valley coming up, they've
- 7:33Speaker 2: really added a mix to it. And I think that's
- 7:35Speaker 2: gotten out of the players we now look at. You know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: it's something why we didn't really go out and get
- 7:40Speaker 2: more debt players in the in the trade market, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 2: whether it's you know, Oscar Molgard or Yannie Newman or
- 7:47Speaker 2: Giagara Furkus or John Hayden. We feel we have a
- 7:50Speaker 2: lot of forwards especially that can step in and play
- 7:53Speaker 2: roles for us, you know, in the regular season and
- 7:55Speaker 2: hopefully the playoffs.
- 7:56Speaker 3: And we met, you know, a side from the death.
- 7:58Speaker 9: What else have you seen from the room to you know,
- 8:01Speaker 9: give you confidence for the you know, march and into
- 8:04Speaker 9: the as you hope for the postseason.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Like I said, I think we have good depth throughout
- 8:07Speaker 2: our lineup, and this is a team that went through
- 8:10Speaker 2: a tough stretch in December. Like the fact that they've
- 8:13Speaker 2: been able to rebound from that and really take it.
- 8:16Speaker 2: I like how we played at the end leading into
- 8:18Speaker 2: Olympic group break. I thought, especially that homestand then going
- 8:22Speaker 2: into Vegas, grabbing a victory there, grabbing a victory in
- 8:25Speaker 2: La before the final break, that was excellent job of
- 8:28Speaker 2: our team coming out of the break. I think there's
- 8:30Speaker 2: still another level that we can get to. I think,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know, we've played solid defensively, but we do have
- 8:35Speaker 2: to create more chances, create a little bit more offense,
- 8:37Speaker 2: and you.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Know that will be the goal starting tomorrow.
- 8:40Speaker 4: You mentioned wanting to preserve the ability for young guys
- 8:43Speaker 4: to have opportunity here, Yeah, adding another guy in the group,
- 8:45Speaker 4: though somebody is going to get mushed down to the
- 8:47Speaker 4: fourth line, somebody's going to have to get scratched kind
- 8:49Speaker 4: of how do you see that situation playing out and
- 8:51Speaker 4: what kind of challenge is that going to be for
- 8:53Speaker 4: Leane to have to build out a lineup every night
- 8:55Speaker 4: and find a way to keep guys.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Like Myers And.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I think it's a challenge, but I think it's challenged
- 9:00Speaker 2: most coaches are going to take right And unfortunately there's
- 9:02Speaker 2: we have a lot of games here in March here.
- 9:04Speaker 2: There are going to be intense games. I think you
- 9:06Speaker 2: got a little taste of it on Monday against Carolina,
- 9:09Speaker 2: just the atmosphere in the building and the and the
- 9:12Speaker 2: energy that was out on the ice, and look, injuries
- 9:15Speaker 2: are going to happen and finding different mix And what
- 9:18Speaker 2: I like right now with their players is I think
- 9:20Speaker 2: Lane has different depending on the opponent, There's different players
- 9:23Speaker 2: that he can put into the lineup that it's going
- 9:25Speaker 2: to bring a little bit of a different element to
- 9:27Speaker 2: our group.
- 9:27Speaker 3: So those at the end of the day, those are.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Gonna be Lane's decisions. And it's done a good job
- 9:32Speaker 2: with it throughout the year. I'm sure you'll do it fine.
- 9:33Speaker 7: Now what will it take for what do you need
- 9:37Speaker 7: to hear down in Coachella Valley for Yannie Newman to
- 9:41Speaker 7: be back with this team and what are they working
- 9:45Speaker 7: with him on down there to bring him back to
- 9:49Speaker 7: the NHL.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Well, look, any one of our young players, whether than
- 9:52Speaker 2: in the National Hockey League or in Coachella Valley, I
- 9:54Speaker 2: think you see it out here and practice and stuff.
- 9:57Speaker 2: They're constantly working there on their game. No matter what,
- 9:59Speaker 2: whether you're the Nationalkling AMERICAANKI, You're still always working. It's
- 10:03Speaker 2: what I like about our culture right now off the ice,
- 10:05Speaker 2: in the weight room there, continuing to build their bodies
- 10:09Speaker 2: there on the ice, working with Justin Rye or Jess
- 10:12Speaker 2: on just little aspects of their games.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Someone like Yanni, to me, it's we know he can score, right,
- 10:18Speaker 3: he's got the shot.
- 10:19Speaker 2: The fact that he continues to work on just utilizing
- 10:22Speaker 2: his size to his advantage, protecting pucks, gaining a little
- 10:26Speaker 2: bit of an extra step, and then just continue to
- 10:28Speaker 2: work on his defensive game. But look right now, like
- 10:31Speaker 2: we have no hesitation to call Yanni up and put
- 10:33Speaker 2: him in our lineup from that standpoint, And like I said,
- 10:37Speaker 2: have a player like Oscar Molguard has been Olympics playing
- 10:39Speaker 2: at that level and I thought he looked very well
- 10:41Speaker 2: good over in Italy too. Having those type of players
- 10:44Speaker 2: at our disposal I think gives us a great depth
- 10:47Speaker 2: without the organization.
- 10:48Speaker 9: Did any differences this year's traded line from past one?
- 10:52Speaker 4: Is just give the new CBA have any impact.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Or with that kind of look, I I it's tough
- 10:58Speaker 2: to say in general, right, like, uh, we weren't a
- 11:01Speaker 2: team that was right up against the cap from that perspective,
- 11:03Speaker 2: so it didn't really impact us too much there.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I think it was just more of like, look, there
- 11:08Speaker 3: is so much parody.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Even with the teams that are so called sellers, they're
- 11:13Speaker 2: not that far off, you know, so and then you
- 11:17Speaker 2: also look at it, there's not a lot of free agents.
- 11:19Speaker 2: A lot of teams have already signed their flip free agents,
- 11:21Speaker 2: so you know, I'm sure that some of the discussions
- 11:23Speaker 2: are with some teams like hey, okay, we get rid
- 11:25Speaker 2: of these players, then who's going to be our team
- 11:27Speaker 2: next year?
- 11:28Speaker 3: So it's just a situation.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I think some of that came into the mix on
- 11:31Speaker 2: maybe why there wasn't as many trades.
- 11:34Speaker 5: You're competing with a lot of teams for a couple
- 11:36Speaker 5: of a couple of playoff spots here yep, for those
- 11:39Speaker 5: teams that you saw that we were active and added,
- 11:41Speaker 5: do you feel like in comparison, you did enough to
- 11:44Speaker 5: improve your team during this period.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Look, I think we have a lot of faith in
- 11:51Speaker 2: our group. We believe this is a team that can
- 11:53Speaker 2: make the playoffs and we're excited about that. Like I
- 11:56Speaker 2: said to you before, I think it's gonna be a challenge.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I think our division is wide open. But the fact
- 12:02Speaker 2: that our young players are going to get the experience
- 12:04Speaker 2: of hey, scoreboard watching, you know, understanding that, hey, there's
- 12:09Speaker 2: the excitement, the nervousness of what's going on out there,
- 12:11Speaker 2: but then trying to take care of their own business
- 12:13Speaker 2: and continue to develop and just see how intense these
- 12:15Speaker 2: games are. You know, I think it's it's a great
- 12:18Speaker 2: experience for them all. We we still talk about, you know,
- 12:21Speaker 2: Matty Benner's experience his first year playing fourteen playoff games,
- 12:24Speaker 2: it really helped him a lot a lot now just
- 12:26Speaker 2: being a part of the mix heere. For our younger players,
- 12:29Speaker 2: whether it's Riker, whether it's Berkeley, whether it's Shane, I
- 12:32Speaker 2: think is going to be a great experience. And but yeah,
- 12:35Speaker 2: we believe in our group here. We do think we
- 12:37Speaker 2: have an opportunity. We know it's going to be difficult,
- 12:39Speaker 2: but it should be a lot of fun in the
- 12:40Speaker 2: next few weeks.
- 12:41Speaker 6: There's you guys have stated that the goal is to
- 12:43Speaker 6: become a perennial playoff contender.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yep, in the current that's the current goal. So assuming
- 12:48Speaker 1: that we reach that goal here, what is the next step?
- 12:52Speaker 6: Like, how how do you wor some of the steps
- 12:54Speaker 6: that if we take in a common true contender.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Well, let's try to get to the playoffs first for
- 12:58Speaker 2: the first one to make that step from the standpoint,
- 13:00Speaker 2: but I think like, look, we're really happy with our
- 13:03Speaker 2: goaltending right now and our defensive play. I think there's
- 13:06Speaker 2: always an opportunity to continue to develop our forwards. It's
- 13:09Speaker 2: why we were looking to add forward to our group here.
- 13:11Speaker 2: It's why we've been so focused on development both in
- 13:15Speaker 2: Coachella Valley and Seattle and developing our young forwards. I
- 13:18Speaker 2: think that's the opportunity for us to really take the
- 13:20Speaker 2: next step is just building that depth and building an
- 13:25Speaker 2: offense that can contribute a little bit more.
- 13:27Speaker 3: For sure, what.
- 13:27Speaker 8: Type of pushback, if any, did you get among players
- 13:31Speaker 8: with you know, movement clauses about whether they wanted to
- 13:35Speaker 8: come to Seattle, either the team or the city.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Look, I'm not going to get into conversations of with
- 13:42Speaker 2: other teams and what we did and within that, all
- 13:45Speaker 2: I can say is like, I think you heard your
- 13:47Speaker 2: comments from Jordan Embery ecstatic about resigning in Seattle and
- 13:50Speaker 2: excited about being in Seattle. I think every time our
- 13:52Speaker 2: players play a big game in at Climate Pledgeria, there
- 13:56Speaker 2: there's an energy in the building that they are really
- 13:58Speaker 2: drawing on.
- 13:59Speaker 3: The players were here in here two. They remember what
- 14:01Speaker 3: it was like in the playoff run.
- 14:03Speaker 2: We want to get this group back there, not only
- 14:05Speaker 2: for our players, but also for our fans.
- 14:07Speaker 9: There were some chatter over you know, half a few
- 14:10Speaker 9: weeks with Shane Wright's name coming up in potential trade discussions.
- 14:14Speaker 3: YEA, how close or far was that becoming a reality?
- 14:17Speaker 2: Well, I think you look the league right, everyone's looking
- 14:19Speaker 2: for centerman, a lot of young centermen. I think from
- 14:22Speaker 2: day one in this organization, Ron has talked a lot
- 14:24Speaker 2: about drafting center and developing centers works. We love having
- 14:29Speaker 2: Shane a part of our group. He is going to
- 14:32Speaker 2: be a big part of the reason why hopefully we
- 14:34Speaker 2: get in the playoffs here and then making this push
- 14:36Speaker 2: down the stretch here. Every day we enjoy working with
- 14:38Speaker 2: Shane did make him better, and all I can say
- 14:41Speaker 2: is we're we're very happy to have him a part
- 14:43Speaker 2: of our group.
- 14:44Speaker 4: You mentioned gold Ending a minute ago. What's Matt Murray's status.
- 14:47Speaker 3: With you guys right now?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, No, it's a situation where Matt obviously he's
- 14:51Speaker 2: been a little bit injured, a little bit longer than
- 14:53Speaker 2: anticipated and just you know, a lower body injury.
- 14:55Speaker 3: These things always take a little bit longer. But we're,
- 14:58Speaker 3: you know, we're very hopeful that he can be an
- 15:00Speaker 3: option for us in the near future.
- 15:02Speaker 2: His work ethic, his work ethic and practice and off
- 15:06Speaker 2: the ice has been you know, outstanding, and uh, you know,
- 15:12Speaker 2: he just gives us a little bit more death in
- 15:13Speaker 2: that position. And then it's why we signed him at
- 15:15Speaker 2: the start of the year. And now hopefully it's going
- 15:17Speaker 2: to be a situation where he's going to be able
- 15:18Speaker 2: to help us out here down this last little stretch.
