- 0:46Speaker 4: and take off for the promised land.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Hey, happy Thursday. Welcome in. A portion of the show
- 0:57Speaker 1: is brought to you by Radiant Dentistry. We have slapped
- 1:01Speaker 1: together a pretty decent Thursday show for you. Coming up,
- 1:05Speaker 1: we're going to say goodbye to the Astros and the
- 1:08Speaker 1: Rangers for the foreseeable future. We have got a high
- 1:13Speaker 1: school report with Caleb. We are going to hear from
- 1:16Speaker 1: offensive lineman Wilkin Formby. We're going to hear from Ryan Silverfield,
- 1:23Speaker 1: the Arkansas football coach. We have the Clark Eisenhower outdoor
- 1:28Speaker 1: edition with some pretty nasty animals. And I'm excited to
- 1:32Speaker 1: visit with my buddy Nick Streit from the Taos Fly
- 1:36Speaker 1: Shop in Taos, New Mexico. That's coming up in the
- 1:40Speaker 1: second hour of the program. College football weekend begins tonight,
- 1:46Speaker 1: kind of. Western Kentucky visits New Mexico State. North Texas
- 1:51Speaker 1: at Tulsa. Two Jekyll and Hyde teams playing. I don't
- 1:55Speaker 1: know what to expect from that one. That will kick
- 1:58Speaker 1: off Thursday night. Tomorrow night, a couple of decent games.
- 2:02Speaker 1: You've got Pitt at Virginia Tech, two 4-0 teams in
- 2:06Speaker 1: the ACC. And you've got Penn State and Northwestern, which
- 2:12Speaker 1: is showing signs of life. The Nittany Lions coming off
- 2:17Speaker 1: a loss. The Wednesday initial... Injury report shows Mario Craver
- 2:25Speaker 1: questionable for the game against Arkansas. Terry Buss, of course,
- 2:31Speaker 1: out for the year. Ashton Bethel-Roman has been hobbled. Craver
- 2:36Speaker 1: is hobbled. That game set to kick off a little
- 2:39Speaker 1: after 6 o'clock on Saturday. Ross Dellinger is reporting. And
- 2:47Speaker 1: the Sports Business Journal says, that conversations between ESPN and
- 2:52Speaker 1: its conference partners have been tough sledding, trying to replace
- 2:58Speaker 1: revenue generated by events like the SEC Championship for a
- 3:04Speaker 1: 24-team playoff. CFP leaders are close to expanding their talking
- 3:11Speaker 1: buyouts of conference title games and scheduling logistics of doubling
- 3:17Speaker 1: the field from $ 12. We'll see what happens going forward.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Rice University has announced a 20-year naming rights agreement to
- 3:30Speaker 1: rename historic Rice Stadium. You know they played a Super
- 3:34Speaker 1: Bowl there, right? Pink Floyd has been there. The Eagles
- 3:39Speaker 1: have played there. Billy Joel and Elton John have played there.
- 3:43Speaker 1: George Strait has played there. The Super Bowl was in 1974.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Capacity of 70,000. The new name goes into effect against
- 3:55Speaker 1: UTSA Saturday night. First community stadium. Crickets. San Diego State's
- 4:07Speaker 1: football team is dealing with a mumps outbreak as it
- 4:13Speaker 1: prepares to play Texas State. A bulletin to San Diego
- 4:17Speaker 1: State students from the university said the public health services
- 4:21Speaker 1: had confirmed 14 cases and the outbreak right then when
- 4:27Speaker 1: it went out was confined to the football team. The
- 4:31Speaker 1: Aztecs' availability report included nearly three dozen players, including 17
- 4:39Speaker 1: who were listed as doubtful or out. These are the
- 4:44Speaker 1: kinds of things gamblers like to know. And this is
- 4:50Speaker 1: a very interesting story. A few of Louisiana's Group of
- 4:55Speaker 1: Six football programs... need to drop down to the FCS level,
- 5:04Speaker 1: according to one member of the Louisiana Board of Regents.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Shreveport attorney Wilbur Pryor called on Louisiana Tech, Louisiana, and
- 5:15Speaker 1: Louisiana Monroe to take a slice of, quote, humble pie.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Those schools play at FBS levels where the cost to
- 5:24Speaker 1: compete is high. Schools that are trying to play Division I,
- 5:30Speaker 1: says Pryor, that's just a sinking hole trying to play
- 5:34Speaker 1: Division I ball. I don't think much of the public
- 5:38Speaker 1: would know the difference if they all play at the
- 5:40Speaker 1: same level, and it seems like they have to have
- 5:43Speaker 1: a self-realization and put a humble cap on. Budget deficits
- 5:50Speaker 1: at each school are growing higher. ULM, $ 10 million. Louisiana Tech,
- 5:56Speaker 1: $ 17 million. Louisiana, $ 20 million. That's nothing compared to LSU.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Where we have been told they owe between $ 50 and
- 6:05Speaker 1: $ 60 million. So, we'll see what happens there. Major League
- 6:14Speaker 1: Baseball deciding wild card game tonight in Atlanta. The Phillies
- 6:19Speaker 1: and the Braves. Aaron Nola against Kerr. Yesterday afternoon, the
- 6:24Speaker 1: Braves forced a game three with a 4-3 win.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Meanwhile.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Three other teams advanced. The Yankees beat the Red Sox
- 6:37Speaker 1: last night 9-2. The Padres swept the Cubs 4-1 the final.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And the Disastros got beat by the White Sox 7-3.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Houston hasn't won a playoff game in like, I don't know,
- 6:54Speaker 1: 100 years. Chad Tracy, rookie manager. Pulled Sonny Gray, who
- 7:03Speaker 1: wasn't happy about being lifted after 70 pitches, said, Gray,
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think I'm the best pitcher in the American League
- 7:12Speaker 1: going through the order a third time. That's a fact.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I would have liked to have been trusted in that moment.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Tracy's decision came under fire after both games. Boston's 9-0
- 7:25Speaker 1: defeat a night earlier. He had pulled starter Peyton Tull
- 7:30Speaker 1: after 4-2 at 83 pitches in a 1-0 game. Again,
- 7:37Speaker 1: when Gray left, it was a close game. And then
- 7:43Speaker 1: immediately afterward, it wasn't. And the Dodgers are going to
- 7:49Speaker 1: play the winner of the Braves-Phillies. And the first two
- 7:53Speaker 1: games is in L.A. And they're particularly concerned because of
- 7:59Speaker 1: the heat. A day game is scheduled at 2 o'clock, nope,
- 8:07Speaker 1: 1 o'clock L.A. time, Saturday afternoon, where temperatures are predicted
- 8:14Speaker 1: to be 100 degrees. Weather officials say Saturday will be
- 8:20Speaker 1: the hottest day over the course of the next week.
- 8:23Speaker 1: In addition to heat, there will be humidity in L.A.
- 8:28Speaker 1: The high calls for 98, clear skies. Hey, get used
- 8:34Speaker 1: to it. 98 degrees. What babies. The Men's National Invitational
- 8:42Speaker 1: Basketball Tournament will be shrunk from 32 to 24 teams
- 8:47Speaker 1: starting this next year. The new look format will see
- 8:52Speaker 1: the championship game hosted in Detroit, site of the Final Four,
- 8:58Speaker 1: on April 4th, my birthday. I think they did that
- 9:02Speaker 1: on purpose. By the way, in lieu of gifts this year,
- 9:07Speaker 1: just send cash. The NIT field has been set at
- 9:11Speaker 1: 32 since 26. Only four power conference programs competed last
- 9:18Speaker 1: year in the NIT, Auburn, Cal, Wake Forest, and Oklahoma State.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And the 2026-27 hockey season debut continues tonight with five
- 9:34Speaker 1: board games. We're getting ready for tomorrow night's Dallas Stars
- 9:39Speaker 1: opener in Dallas against the St. Louis Blues. In case
- 9:46Speaker 1: you're keeping score, and most of you aren't, it will
- 9:49Speaker 1: be on TNT and True tomorrow night. I've already got
- 9:53Speaker 1: my popcorn ready to pop for that one, and I'm
- 9:56Speaker 1: getting excited for the Stars opener. I don't care about
- 10:01Speaker 1: the Cowboys. I don't care about the Mavericks. The Rangers
- 10:04Speaker 1: suck and the Stars may keep me happy. I saw this.
- 10:11Speaker 1: This is interesting. Starting tonight, There will be 61 straight
- 10:18Speaker 1: days of football between college football and the NFL. The
- 10:25Speaker 1: next day, date, without any football is December the 1st.
- 10:36Speaker 1: We have two solid months. Well, you do. Some of
- 10:39Speaker 1: you people still watch the NFL. But still. Football, every
- 10:46Speaker 1: swinging night of the week, starting tonight through the end
- 10:54Speaker 1: of November. Ladies, good luck getting your man's attention for
- 11:01Speaker 1: the next two months. Of course, you can't anyway, so
- 11:04Speaker 1: what difference does it make? Okay, we're going to take
- 11:09Speaker 1: a break. We're going to jump into this stuff. Don't
- 11:13Speaker 1: say I never give you Astros stuff. We're going to
- 11:17Speaker 1: hear from the losing locker room coming up. And we're
- 11:21Speaker 1: also going to hear from the Rangers brain trust, such
- 11:27Speaker 1: as it is, about what is next for this team.
- 11:33Speaker 1: We've got a high school report. We're going to hear
- 11:36Speaker 1: from Aggie offensive lineman, Wilcom Thornby. We've got the Clark
- 11:42Speaker 1: Eisenhower Outdoor Edition. So phone the neighbors, wake the kids.
- 11:48Speaker 1: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 11:51Speaker 1: Chad Jones Law.
- 11:54Speaker 7: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt. And so
- 11:57Speaker 7: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 12:00Speaker 7: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 12:02Speaker 7: paying attention. It was their fault. And now you're left
- 12:04Speaker 7: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a
- 12:06Speaker 7: doctor and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help.
- 12:09Speaker 7: We've been helping our neighbors for more than two decades.
- 12:12Speaker 7: Stop getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember,
- 12:15Speaker 7: don't get mad.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Get Chad.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Call Chad Jones Law at 979-595-5000 or go online to ChadJonesLaw.com.
- 12:25Speaker 8: Keep up with high schools all over the Francis Valley.
- 12:27Speaker 1: It's the High School Report, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4.30.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Ships got it. Ships got it. Ship Howard Sports Talk.
- 12:32Speaker 9: I left Oklahoma driving in a Pontiac.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Just about to lose my mind.
- 12:52Speaker 9: If you're out.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Driving, please turn your headlights on. It's pretty dark. I
- 13:03Speaker 1: thought we were about to have about four feet of
- 13:05Speaker 1: rain in ten minutes, as dark as it got. We've
- 13:10Speaker 1: had a little. I'm not going to look. I'm going
- 13:12Speaker 1: to take everything we can get. I honestly... I've sat
- 13:18Speaker 1: here and watched it pour outside my window and not
- 13:21Speaker 1: a drop at my house. And it evened out today.
- 13:27Speaker 1: At lunchtime, I got a pour down for a few minutes.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I'm going, where did that come from? So I was
- 13:33Speaker 1: all excited. And then I drove back to work and
- 13:35Speaker 1: there was nothing at the time. I'm going, ha ha.
- 13:40Speaker 1: But we've had a little rain. We can use a
- 13:43Speaker 1: little bit more. Coming up in a little more than
- 13:47Speaker 1: an hour. I'm going to talk to my buddy Nick
- 13:49Speaker 1: Streit up in New Mexico. When we were there this summer,
- 13:53Speaker 1: it was brutal. The whole West was on fire, almost literally.
- 13:59Speaker 1: New Mexico, Colorado. It looks like the remnants of this
- 14:05Speaker 1: hurricane in the Pacific have brought a little rain to
- 14:11Speaker 1: the Taos and the mountainous region and some of Colorado.
- 14:15Speaker 1: We will talk to Nick about that coming up. Monday,
- 14:19Speaker 1: Writers' Roundtable. It's Overreaction Monday every week with Robert Cessna,
- 14:25Speaker 1: Rusty Burson. Tune in for that at 5 o'clock. We'll
- 14:29Speaker 1: have post-game react from the game on Saturday. Our coverage
- 14:33Speaker 1: will begin at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon with the pregame.
- 14:40Speaker 1: And then we'll have the network broadcast. Then we'll have
- 14:48Speaker 1: the game. Then we'll have the post-game call-in show with
- 14:52Speaker 1: Louie and Dusty. So we got you covered on that deal.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And I'm looking at the weather. You know, it looks
- 15:06Speaker 1: fairly decent. It looks like most of this stuff will
- 15:12Speaker 1: be gone by kickoff on Saturday.
- 15:15Speaker 10: Okay.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I haven't seen anything that would suggest thunderstorms on Saturday,
- 15:23Speaker 1: which is a nightmare. I talked to Dusty about that.
- 15:27Speaker 1: What does it say now, Caleb? What are we seeing?
- 15:34Speaker 1: Scattered thunderstorms. Oh, scattered thunderstorms. Late afternoon?
- 15:38Speaker 11: Mid-afternoon.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Mid, okay. But 6 o'clock?
- 15:42Speaker 3: Yeah, they don't know.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Hey, they don't know what's going to happen like at 4.30 today,
- 15:47Speaker 1: so don't tell me what's going to happen at 6
- 15:49Speaker 1: o'clock on Saturday. The worst nightmare is like thunder and
- 15:55Speaker 1: lightning and delay the game, right? You have people there
- 16:00Speaker 1: ready to go. Arkansas, like, they're going, hey, we hope
- 16:07Speaker 1: it pours, right? I mean, they're the underdog. You want
- 16:13Speaker 1: play in in pouring rain and they will if there's
- 16:17Speaker 1: no like lightning right thunder so they'll play in the
- 16:22Speaker 1: rain um we'll we'll see how that works out you
- 16:26Speaker 1: know there's a front coming through but i'm not sure
- 16:30Speaker 1: it's clearing clearing until like sunday night monday look i'm
- 16:36Speaker 1: not a meteorologist but i could i could be you
- 16:40Speaker 1: understand what i'm saying It's apparently not that difficult. And
- 16:45Speaker 1: the good news is I can make as many mistakes
- 16:48Speaker 1: as possible and still keep my job. Okay, let's do this.
- 16:56Speaker 1: We want to hear, I'm going to hear first from
- 16:59Speaker 1: the Astros manager, Joe Espada. You Astro fans know the stat.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I know it's been a while since they've won a
- 17:07Speaker 1: home playoff game. I do know that. And Chicago is poison, right?
- 17:14Speaker 1: Chicago won the World Series against the Astros. I do
- 17:18Speaker 1: know that the Astros lost all four ACLS home games
- 17:26Speaker 1: to the Rangers in 2023. I don't know if they've
- 17:29Speaker 1: won a game since.
- 17:33Speaker 12: ALDS home game against the Twins in 2023 was their last.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Home playoff win.
- 17:39Speaker 1: So that was... They did win a game against the
- 17:42Speaker 1: Twins in the Division Series. They lost all four to
- 17:45Speaker 1: the Rangers. They haven't won a home playoff game since then.
- 17:50Speaker 1: I don't really. That's a weird baseball stat, and there's
- 17:54Speaker 1: a lot of weird baseball stats, right? That's really strange.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And then you had some player, like a third-string pitcher,
- 18:04Speaker 1: criticizing the fans after game one, and it's like, come on. Okay,
- 18:10Speaker 1: so let's hear from Joe Espada on the loss and
- 18:16Speaker 1: the series lost.
- 18:19Speaker 10: For me, listen, these guys, we're competitors, and we want
- 18:26Speaker 10: to win.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Every pitch, every inning.
- 18:29Speaker 10: Yeah, it was difficult. But again, I'm just proud of
- 18:38Speaker 10: how we fought. the whole entire time just to get
- 18:41Speaker 10: to this point. You know, this, they look completely different
- 18:47Speaker 10: in May and the way we got back and we
- 18:49Speaker 10: fought back and, you know, we set our goal to
- 18:52Speaker 10: win this division and we accomplished that. We wanted to
- 18:54Speaker 10: play deep in October. We, we came short on that,
- 18:57Speaker 10: but just to wait our guys stay together and we're
- 19:00Speaker 10: able to get this far. Extremely proud of our team.
- 19:03Speaker 1: All right. That's the manager.
- 19:06Speaker 6: Okay.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And, Look, it was a slog in the AL West
- 19:15Speaker 1: from start to finish. I mean, for everybody. I have
- 19:20Speaker 1: said before, and well, I'm not going to talk about
- 19:22Speaker 1: the Rangers right now. I'll talk about them in a minute.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The Astros started out with injury situations. You know, it
- 19:32Speaker 1: was up and down. I frankly predicted they would win
- 19:37Speaker 1: the West way back in, like, June because I thought
- 19:40Speaker 1: they were the best team the way the way seattle
- 19:42Speaker 1: was playing you know and um and i thought they
- 19:48Speaker 1: would win with 81 wins at 500 uh so i
- 19:53Speaker 1: was good there i should be betting um cam smith
- 20:00Speaker 1: who tried let's hear what he had to say post
- 20:04Speaker 1: game yesterday.
- 20:05Speaker 3: Uh baseball's over it sucks and.
- 20:10Speaker 13: I don't want to get emotional about it, but I
- 20:13Speaker 13: love these guys, man, and we'll be back.
- 20:18Speaker 14: How do you make sense of that first inning and
- 20:20Speaker 14: everything that's transpired.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Between you guys in a whole?
- 20:24Speaker 13: Yeah, it just seemed like they were putting together really
- 20:26Speaker 13: good at-bats. It didn't seem like they missed or chased
- 20:30Speaker 13: anything out of the zone. They were locked in, and
- 20:34Speaker 13: you can't really do anything about it. Try to play
- 20:36Speaker 13: good defense, but when they put together good at-bats like that.
- 20:39Speaker 3: It's tough. But you guys chipped away, right?
- 20:41Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Absolutely. And you felt that.
- 20:44Speaker 13: You felt that throughout the game. Kind of how we
- 20:48Speaker 13: approached all year. We kept battling no matter what. With
- 20:51Speaker 13: all the adversity, we keep battling. So, you know, if
- 20:54Speaker 13: you want to look at the positive, that's the positive.
- 20:57Speaker 13: The fighting back always.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Always. Never bowing down to nobody.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Look, they were down four out in the first inning. Uh,
- 21:04Speaker 1: Hunter Brown, their guy was terrible. Uh, sit here and
- 21:08Speaker 1: watch the yesterday afternoon and Ryan star who will be
- 21:12Speaker 1: on tomorrow. I commended him. We rode down the elevator
- 21:15Speaker 1: this afternoon. I commended him cause he called it. He
- 21:18Speaker 1: said yesterday, he told me I'm going home and watch
- 21:21Speaker 1: Hunter Brown, give up four runs in the first inning.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And by gosh, it came just as he said it did. And, and,
- 21:27Speaker 1: and God bless him for doing that. Uh, maybe he
- 21:30Speaker 1: had some inside information I didn't know about, but, um,
- 21:34Speaker 1: It was fun day for all of us, I think. Now,
- 21:41Speaker 1: speaking of no fun, we're going to hear from CY
- 21:48Speaker 1: Chris Young. We're going to hear from Shoemaker. It just,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I don't know what Chris Young can do given Ray
- 22:02Speaker 1: Davis's stance on keeping the payroll where it is, which
- 22:08Speaker 1: is right in the middle. Most of the time, unless
- 22:11Speaker 1: you're the Mets, you get what you pay for. That's
- 22:15Speaker 1: a whole nother issue. But, but most of the time
- 22:18Speaker 1: you get what you, but you, you pay for everybody
- 22:20Speaker 1: hates the Dodgers because they spend billions of dollars, but
- 22:23Speaker 1: guess what? They're winning.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Right.
- 22:25Speaker 1: And they may win again this year.
- 22:26Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 22:27Speaker 1: They may, but they're winning. Um, The Rangers went all
- 22:33Speaker 1: in in 2023, and they won the World Series. Now,
- 22:38Speaker 1: they gave out some bad contracts in the process. It's
- 22:41Speaker 1: killing them right now with Seager and DeGrom. I think
- 22:45Speaker 1: between those two, they owe $ 69 million, okay? They can
- 22:51Speaker 1: trade part of them, but they're going to eat a
- 22:53Speaker 1: lot of that contract, okay? It's not like they can
- 22:57Speaker 1: go out and get $ 69 million of new players because
- 23:01Speaker 1: that's not how this is going to work. These two
- 23:05Speaker 1: guys have.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I don't know how much value they have right now.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Probably the least amount of value in their entire career
- 23:14Speaker 1: between those two. DeGrom had a chance to be traded
- 23:18Speaker 1: during the trade deadline. He said, nope, I'm staying here.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I like it here. I would argue... that Arlington is
- 23:28Speaker 1: an easy place for players to play. I say that
- 23:32Speaker 1: because they don't have the scrutiny that LA has, that
- 23:38Speaker 1: New York has, that Chicago has. I mean, and that's
- 23:44Speaker 1: not an indictment on the media. There's just not many
- 23:47Speaker 1: of them and they're not our Philadelphia. My gosh, Philadelphia, uh,
- 23:54Speaker 1: It's a pretty easy place to play. I won't say
- 24:00Speaker 1: they're not held accountable, but there's not tons of booing
- 24:06Speaker 1: from these fans. I know that there are fans upset
- 24:12Speaker 1: because this team, since the World Series now, this is
- 24:14Speaker 1: the third straight losing year.
- 24:19Speaker 5: And I.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Don't see hope in sight. And I don't think the
- 24:23Speaker 1: fans see hope in sight as long as Ray Davis
- 24:25Speaker 1: is going to keep the payroll where it is. Let's
- 24:28Speaker 1: hear from C.Y. Shoemaker.
- 24:33Speaker 8: Obviously disappointed to be sitting here today and wrapping up
- 24:39Speaker 8: the season the day before the playoffs are starting. Going
- 24:45Speaker 8: into yesterday, we all felt good about The opportunity to
- 24:48Speaker 8: potentially be back in the playoffs and to have it
- 24:51Speaker 8: come to an end yesterday, it's been hard for all
- 24:56Speaker 8: of us. But nonetheless, it doesn't diminish some of the
- 24:59Speaker 8: positive things that happened this year. And certainly would like
- 25:02Speaker 8: to start by thanking Skip and the staff for their
- 25:05Speaker 8: work this year. The effort that they gave, I thought
- 25:08Speaker 8: was tremendous and was really, really pleased with the staff's
- 25:12Speaker 8: ability to squeezed just about everything they could from this
- 25:16Speaker 8: team this year. And so really, Skip, thank you and
- 25:20Speaker 8: your staff for all you did for our group this year.
- 25:23Speaker 8: We have a lot to look forward to moving forward
- 25:26Speaker 8: with your leadership and the guys we have in that
- 25:29Speaker 8: coach's room with you. Secondly, our front office worked tirelessly
- 25:34Speaker 8: this year to try to give this team every chance
- 25:36Speaker 8: we could to compete. We knew coming into the season
- 25:38Speaker 8: that that we were going to be faced with some
- 25:41Speaker 8: challenges in terms of our roster construction that would maybe
- 25:43Speaker 8: make things a little more difficult. And, you know, the
- 25:47Speaker 8: margin of error would be a little bit thinner.
- 25:50Speaker 3: That said, our.
- 25:50Speaker 8: Expectation was to compete and have a team that was
- 25:54Speaker 8: capable of being in the playoffs. And we fell short
- 25:58Speaker 8: of that goal. And it's, again, hard to sit here
- 26:01Speaker 8: today and rationalize why that was or what happened ultimately.
- 26:07Speaker 8: Those margins got thin, and when you combine that with
- 26:11Speaker 8: underperformance to some degree and the bad luck of health
- 26:15Speaker 8: and some significant injuries, especially even the last two weeks
- 26:18Speaker 8: of the season, it just made things difficult, and we
- 26:21Speaker 8: came up short of our goal.
- 26:23Speaker 15: I think that's what the most disappointing part of this is,
- 26:26Speaker 15: is sitting here at this table answering questions when I
- 26:29Speaker 15: think we should be playing next week or this week. And,
- 26:34Speaker 15: you know, I think the, you know, having guys like
- 26:37Speaker 15: Duran and Lats really take the next step was really encouraging.
- 26:41Speaker 15: And then a couple of guys not taking the next
- 26:44Speaker 15: step was discouraging in my seat. And so that's the
- 26:47Speaker 15: part we got to figure out of how to get
- 26:48Speaker 15: these guys better in the off season. And the couple
- 26:52Speaker 15: of guys that Evan mentioned, I thought there was, you know,
- 26:54Speaker 15: some growing pains for a couple of the younger guys.
- 26:58Speaker 15: And there's a couple of guys that, you know, we,
- 27:00Speaker 15: They have to understand that playing time is earned, and
- 27:05Speaker 15: I think it's a big offseason for a lot of
- 27:07Speaker 15: these guys to come into spring training ready to earn
- 27:09Speaker 15: a spot.
- 27:10Speaker 11: I think it speaks volumes to a couple different things. One,
- 27:12Speaker 11: their resilience as players, and then Skip touched on earlier,
- 27:17Speaker 11: development continuing at the major league level, the ability to
- 27:19Speaker 11: bounce back maybe from early career struggles and find their
- 27:23Speaker 11: way with a great staff that's pouring into them, the belief.
- 27:26Speaker 11: I think it sets the example for us as, something
- 27:29Speaker 11: from the development perspective we need to continue to push
- 27:32Speaker 11: and we talked a little bit about you know the
- 27:34Speaker 11: lack of depth I think depth comes from a lot
- 27:36Speaker 11: of different areas obviously we speak internally to the depth
- 27:38Speaker 11: and with the last few cycles at the deadline when
- 27:42Speaker 11: we pursued players obviously it cost us maybe some of
- 27:44Speaker 11: that depth and created a little bit of a gap
- 27:46Speaker 11: year but our minor league player of the year our
- 27:49Speaker 11: minor league pitcher of the year are both upper level
- 27:51Speaker 11: prospects one of the top prospects in the game and
- 27:53Speaker 11: Sebastian Walcott is also at the upper level so I
- 27:56Speaker 11: think these guys and amongst others are going to get
- 27:58Speaker 11: opportunities at the major league level here soon. For some
- 28:02Speaker 11: of them, it may go well. For others, it may not.
- 28:05Speaker 11: The ability to bounce back and continue to develop at
- 28:07Speaker 11: the major league level is key to having success and
- 28:09Speaker 11: creating that extra layer of depth that we need to
- 28:12Speaker 11: produce as an organization.
- 28:14Speaker 8: Ultimately, I want to finish by saying a big thank
- 28:16Speaker 8: you to our fans. I know this is not the
- 28:19Speaker 8: result that we wanted, but that said, our fans were
- 28:22Speaker 8: tremendous this year. The support that we have received, The
- 28:26Speaker 8: people in the community who have reached out, the positivity,
- 28:29Speaker 8: even just walking through the airport and seeing people this
- 28:31Speaker 8: last week wearing Ranger gear with pride, it gives me
- 28:34Speaker 8: great pride to see that. And I just can't say
- 28:38Speaker 8: enough how disappointed I am that you all are not
- 28:40Speaker 8: watching playoff baseball this week with your Texas Rangers in it.
- 28:44Speaker 8: That said, we're getting a head start on the offseason,
- 28:47Speaker 8: and we're back to work already finding ways to make
- 28:49Speaker 8: this better.
- 28:50Speaker 1: By the way, that other voice you heard was a
- 28:52Speaker 1: GM Ross Fenstermaker. along with Shoemaker and CY Chris Young.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I have said it repeatedly the last couple of weeks.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I will say it one more time before we go
- 29:05Speaker 1: to the offseason and move along. When you fire a
- 29:09Speaker 1: Hall of Fame manager and cut $ 33 million from your payroll,
- 29:17Speaker 1: this is what you get. And The Astros are about
- 29:22Speaker 1: to clean house as well. They've already gotten rid of
- 29:24Speaker 1: their GM. I'm assuming they're going to hire a GM
- 29:28Speaker 1: and then get another manager. That's the assumption. I had
- 29:35Speaker 1: an Astros fan text me, we need to fire everyone,
- 29:39Speaker 1: and to which I replied can we have your Don
- 29:43Speaker 1: if you're going to do that we will take your
- 29:45Speaker 1: Don beyond you beyond Ezekiel Duran honestly I don't know
- 29:55Speaker 1: who I'd keep on this team and Jacob Latz I
- 30:00Speaker 1: got two players I would keep on the team right now.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And big game, Nate.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Foscue?
- 30:06Speaker 1: No, Navalny, not Foscue. Big game, Nate. Not named Foscue.
- 30:13Speaker 1: That's good, though. Sevchuk Service Center. Hey, you know, when
- 30:18Speaker 1: it rains, and we haven't had any for, I don't know,
- 30:20Speaker 1: four years, it seems, you're turning your windshield wipers on
- 30:24Speaker 1: today for the first time in a while and going, hey.
- 30:27Speaker 1: You know, when it's been 100 degrees, this rubber's melted.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I need new wipers. Go in and go underneath the
- 30:33Speaker 1: overhang there at the gas pumps and let them put
- 30:35Speaker 1: them on while you wait. I mean, can't be easier
- 30:39Speaker 1: than that. They're open until 6 this evening. They're open
- 30:43Speaker 1: 7 to 4 tomorrow. You may need new tires. You
- 30:46Speaker 1: may be out there sliding around and go, this isn't safe.
- 30:50Speaker 1: They'll do that for you. Big jobs, little jobs, doesn't matter.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Pat and his staff will take care of it the
- 30:58Speaker 1: way the Sebchak family has been doing for over half
- 31:02Speaker 1: a century. They're open 7 to 6, Monday through Friday,
- 31:06Speaker 1: 7 to 4 Saturdays. Sebchak Service Center, 2200 Longmire, just
- 31:11Speaker 1: down from the post office in College Station.

- 32:16Speaker 18: This is C & J Barbecue.
- 32:19Speaker 16: Okay, so for the ad, I'm thinking fog machines, laser lights,
- 32:23Speaker 16: maybe a.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Do kids eat free?
- 32:25Speaker 5: Uh, yes.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Like, actually free? Yes, every Wednesday night.
- 32:28Speaker 6: So I can get free barbecue?
- 32:30Speaker 1: That's how kids eat free works, buddy.
- 32:32Speaker 6: Wednesday's my favorite day now!
- 32:34Speaker 1: See?
- 32:35Speaker 19: No fog machine needed. Oh, man.
- 32:37Speaker 13: Kids eat free every Wednesday night at C & J Barbecue.
- 32:40Speaker 7: Great food, happy kids, C & J Barbecue.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Because dinner shouldn't be another battle. If you miss Tex-Ax Live,
- 32:48Speaker 1: you miss.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Hey, Ryan Stolpen's studio. Yeah, what's up, guys?
- 32:52Speaker 20: I think he honestly, truly believes that Marcel can take
- 32:57Speaker 20: this team and win football games. And ultimately, I think
- 33:02Speaker 20: he's doing what he's supposed to do as a head
- 33:05Speaker 20: coach and defend him. And I think that they're just
- 33:08Speaker 20: trying to get some of those little things cleaned up.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Tex-Ax Live, brought to you by David Gardner's Jewelers.
- 33:13Speaker 21: Hang out weekdays from 8 to 11 on The Zone.
- 33:34Speaker 12: Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley, and
- 33:37Speaker 12: today we are jumping out to the Polaris Fun Center
- 33:40Speaker 12: phone line to visit with the head coach of the
- 33:42Speaker 12: Waco University Trojans football team, Mr. Charles Foster. Coach, thanks
- 33:47Speaker 12: for joining me today.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Thank you guys for having me on it. Yes, sir.
- 33:52Speaker 12: So your Trojans sitting at two and three on the
- 33:56Speaker 12: season just wrapped up non-district play. So getting ready to
- 34:02Speaker 12: start district scheduled next week against Brenham. But five games
- 34:07Speaker 12: of non-district play. So you're in a little bit of
- 34:09Speaker 12: a smaller district. Had some time to figure out this team.
- 34:13Speaker 12: Only three starters on offense and four on defense coming
- 34:17Speaker 12: back from a playoff team from a year ago so
- 34:21Speaker 12: what are what are some takeaways from the first half
- 34:23Speaker 12: of the season for you and uh what have you
- 34:25Speaker 12: seen from your trojans.
- 34:27Speaker 5: You know i see um you know a lot of
- 34:29Speaker 5: players from the year before have stepped in and they've
- 34:32Speaker 5: done a tremendous job so far you know the the
- 34:34Speaker 5: opponents that we played um that we've lost to a
- 34:37Speaker 5: success only point team that sees teams like round rock
- 34:40Speaker 5: and um also west lake and lake travis um So,
- 34:44Speaker 5: you know, our kids are battle-tested, you know, when you
- 34:46Speaker 5: look at it, because the La Vega team that we
- 34:48Speaker 5: also play, they're 5-0, and Amarillo, King, and Reynolds are 5-0.
- 34:52Speaker 5: And I feel like that's going to help us prepare
- 34:54Speaker 5: for district. So I know that, you know, being 2-3
- 34:58Speaker 5: before district is not a thing that you want, you know,
- 35:01Speaker 5: but we're very battle-tested, and we're ready for district play.
- 35:06Speaker 12: Back in February was UIL realignment, and your Trojans were
- 35:11Speaker 12: moved from District 10 in Region 3 over to District
- 35:15Speaker 12: 8 in Region 2, but it is the exact same
- 35:19Speaker 12: lineup of teams, Brenham, Rudder, Belton, Ellison, Waco, and of
- 35:24Speaker 12: course University. Same lineup of teams as it was in
- 35:28Speaker 12: District 10 from last year, so how big of an
- 35:30Speaker 12: advantage is it to have the exact same teams to
- 35:33Speaker 12: go up against and teams that you know from last year?
- 35:36Speaker 5: It's a huge advantage. It's always good to go against
- 35:39Speaker 5: familiar opponents because you've seen them the previous two years
- 35:42Speaker 5: and For URO to let us be in the same district,
- 35:47Speaker 5: it's good for us. It shows that consistency and also
- 35:53Speaker 5: shows that we've seen this opponent before. So we know
- 35:57Speaker 5: mostly they run the same offensive defense, but Belton, Coach
- 36:01Speaker 5: Mann and his staff are new, but everyone else stayed
- 36:04Speaker 5: the same.
- 36:05Speaker 12: So you're in your bye week this week with a
- 36:08Speaker 12: six-team district. Anytime there's even a number of teams, you
- 36:12Speaker 12: get the bye week in between non-district play and district play.
- 36:16Speaker 12: But it's a smaller district than a lot of these
- 36:19Speaker 12: that you see in 5A, only six teams. So you
- 36:22Speaker 12: get the entire first half of the season to really
- 36:25Speaker 12: prepare for the games that could send you to the playoffs.
- 36:28Speaker 12: So how big of an advantage is that for you
- 36:32Speaker 12: as a coach, especially in a year like this when
- 36:35Speaker 12: it's a pretty young team?
- 36:37Speaker 5: Oh, yeah. Yeah, we're really young, and I will say
- 36:39Speaker 5: this– To have a bye week right in the middle
- 36:42Speaker 5: of the season is really good for us because we're
- 36:46Speaker 5: getting some guys that have been banged up from injuries.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Those guys will be able to come back when district
- 36:52Speaker 5: play is. Rest, recover, just to have a good reset.
- 36:58Speaker 5: That's very important for us. I feel like we are
- 37:01Speaker 5: taking advantage of it. It's been going well.
- 37:05Speaker 12: Here in the bye week, you do have the Brenham
- 37:09Speaker 12: Cubs on deck for your next game next Friday. Uh,
- 37:13Speaker 12: it's going to be a home game against Brenham. So
- 37:16Speaker 12: during this bi-week, how much time do you spend preparing
- 37:20Speaker 12: for your next opponent versus, you know, just working on
- 37:23Speaker 12: the things that you learned, um, over your non-district games?
- 37:28Speaker 5: We've first, uh, for the bi-week for a few days,
- 37:29Speaker 5: we tend to work on us. You know, we'll take
- 37:31Speaker 5: a look at Brenham, but we, you know, work on us,
- 37:33Speaker 5: work on our mental mistakes, work on things that, um,
- 37:37Speaker 5: That will make us better for district. It's always good
- 37:39Speaker 5: to get ahead of your opponent. That's what we're trying
- 37:42Speaker 5: to do. We all know Brennan's a really good football team.
- 37:45Speaker 5: I think they're ranked number five in 5A Division II.
- 37:50Speaker 5: It's going to be a handful, but our kids are excited,
- 37:53Speaker 5: especially playing those guys last year for this championship game.
- 37:57Speaker 5: It's going to be a good game for us.
- 38:00Speaker 12: You are coming off of a playoff season, like I
- 38:04Speaker 12: mentioned earlier. and that was your first year as the
- 38:08Speaker 12: head coach for the Trojans, if I'm not mistaken. So
- 38:11Speaker 12: what's it going to take to continue that momentum from
- 38:14Speaker 12: 2025 and get your Trojans back into the playoffs and
- 38:18Speaker 12: keep your perfect streak of playoff seasons alive?
- 38:22Speaker 5: Definitely being consistent, make sure we take care of the ball.
- 38:27Speaker 5: The little mistakes, the little minimum mistakes, we've got to
- 38:29Speaker 5: clean up. The funny thing is, last year, You know,
- 38:34Speaker 5: a totally different team, but we were 2-3 in district,
- 38:37Speaker 5: and we ended up being dischamped. So hopefully that happens
- 38:41Speaker 5: this year, but we definitely need to fix on our
- 38:44Speaker 5: middle mistakes and don't get behind the yardsticks with penalties
- 38:49Speaker 5: and make sure we go up from there.
- 38:52Speaker 12: So last year, one of your big players on the
- 38:56Speaker 12: offensive side of the ball was your quarterback, threw for
- 38:58Speaker 12: over 3,000 yards, 31 touchdowns. A different quarterback this season,
- 39:02Speaker 12: so how difficult has that been, making those adjustments with
- 39:06Speaker 12: a new starter?
- 39:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, we already have someone come in. It
- 39:11Speaker 5: does get difficult, but, you know, he's taking in full goal.
- 39:16Speaker 5: He's taking the coaching. He's stepped in, and, you know,
- 39:20Speaker 5: he's doing a good job for us. For anyone to
- 39:22Speaker 5: come in, not just him, for anyone to come in
- 39:25Speaker 5: and play the quarterback, the most vital position there is
- 39:28Speaker 5: can be Rocky Road. But other than that, he's been
- 39:31Speaker 5: doing a great job, and he's very confident in himself.
- 39:35Speaker 12: One player that is returning from last year's team is
- 39:37Speaker 12: your senior running back, Ray Brown Jr. Really leaned heavily
- 39:42Speaker 12: on him so far this season, over 600 rushing yards
- 39:45Speaker 12: and eight touchdowns. So how helpful has that been to
- 39:50Speaker 12: have that senior leadership on the team and have a
- 39:52Speaker 12: guy that you know you can trust with the ball
- 39:54Speaker 12: in his hands?
- 39:55Speaker 5: Man, it's huge, man. Ray has been in this program
- 39:59Speaker 5: for four years. He's a three-year varsity at Letterman, and
- 40:02Speaker 5: the way he's carrying his workload, you know, he's the only,
- 40:04Speaker 5: you know, the main back that we have. Unfortunately, we
- 40:07Speaker 5: lost our other running back in the scrimmage. So he's
- 40:11Speaker 5: been taking the workload, about 25 to 30 carries a game, and,
- 40:14Speaker 5: you know, he's He's a workhorse, man, and I really
- 40:17Speaker 5: appreciate everything he's done for this program and continue to
- 40:19Speaker 5: do more. All right, Coach.
- 40:21Speaker 12: Well, I appreciate your time today. Good luck to your
- 40:24Speaker 12: Trojans for the rest of this season.
- 40:26Speaker 5: Yes, sir. Thank you all.

- 42:17Speaker 1: really vicious animal attacks to tell you about. I'm going
- 42:22Speaker 1: to visit with longtime Taos guide Nick Streit, His dad, Taylor,
- 42:32Speaker 1: is a Hall of Famer. We started fishing with Taylor
- 42:35Speaker 1: years ago. And then Taylor retired. Nick took over the
- 42:40Speaker 1: Taos Fly Shop. It's an Orvis-endorsed place and one of
- 42:44Speaker 1: the more respected guides in that whole part of the country.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And I always look forward. I fished with him this summer.
- 42:51Speaker 1: He had, like, an event right after we got off
- 42:54Speaker 1: the river, so I didn't get to talk to him,
- 42:57Speaker 1: which we usually do. We're going to talk to him now.
- 43:00Speaker 1: which is even better because we will have some updates
- 43:04Speaker 1: on the end of summer and fall for you coming up.
- 43:10Speaker 1: All right. We will take a break. We have got
- 43:13Speaker 1: the Texans report, the Oilers report brought to you by

- 43:54Speaker 21: The Houston Texans are back home Sunday in need of
- 43:56Speaker 21: a win after dropping their first three games of the season.
- 43:59Speaker 21: Week one, the defense struggled while the offense put up
- 44:01Speaker 21: 31 points, but the last two weeks, the offense scored
- 44:04Speaker 21: a combined 23. Texans quarterback CJ Stroud spoke on the
- 44:08Speaker 21: team's offense.
- 44:09Speaker 25: We've seen what we can be, I think, in week one,
- 44:11Speaker 25: you know, and then we, you know, not having some
- 44:14Speaker 25: guys out there for week two, definitely we felt their
- 44:15Speaker 25: presence being gone, but, you know, I think, you know,
- 44:18Speaker 25: we're still finding our identity. I think that's just the NFL.
- 44:21Speaker 25: Every team is finding our identity from week one and
- 44:24Speaker 25: to week six, you know, trying to see what they
- 44:26Speaker 25: can do, what they can't do. So, you know, I
- 44:28Speaker 25: think we're all trying to do that. And I think,
- 44:30Speaker 25: you know, Kels is warming up and he's doing everything
- 44:33Speaker 25: he can, you know, make sure that, you know, we're
- 44:35Speaker 25: getting our jobs done. And we also, we can help
- 44:37Speaker 25: him out too, you know, by running the ball better,
- 44:38Speaker 25: you know, being better on first, second down. So it's
- 44:41Speaker 25: not just all on him. It's on us as well.
- 44:42Speaker 25: So I think, you know, we'll all do our job
- 44:45Speaker 25: better and be better.
- 44:46Speaker 21: Kickoff Sunday is against the Dallas Cowboys scheduled for noon.
- 44:49Speaker 21: With your Houston Texans report, I'm Dylan Moore.

- 46:31Speaker 1: chance of getting your name on the cup. But, hey,
- 46:35Speaker 1: somebody's got to. Ten games this week. Tiebreaker. Cowboys-Oilers. Tom
- 46:41Speaker 1: Landry against Bum Phillips. Tony Dorsett against Earl Campbell. Brian
- 46:47Speaker 1: at Copper's Cove. College Station-Georgetown. Arkansas-Texas A & M University. Pitt-Vatek.
- 46:58Speaker 1: Penn State, Northwestern. Both those games on tomorrow night. UCF
- 47:04Speaker 1: at Houston. Navy and Air Force as part of the
- 47:08Speaker 1: Commander's Trophy. Alabama, Mississippi State. That should be a good one.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Two really good young quarterbacks in that game. And Ohio
- 47:19Speaker 1: State and Iowa. Those are the ten games we're picking.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Make your picks between now and tomorrow afternoon at 5.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, America's Most Loved Football Pick'em Contest,
- 47:34Speaker 1: a division of Sports Talk presented every day of the
- 47:38Speaker 1: football season by Chad Jones-Law and Zwernemann Flooring. All right,
- 47:46Speaker 1: Saturday evening, 6 o'clock, ESPN2, and right here on The Zone,
- 47:54Speaker 1: the Aggies and the Piggy people. A & M has
- 47:56Speaker 1: owned this series in this century, frankly. Aggies, 14 points
- 48:05Speaker 1: favorites or so going into the game, but they need
- 48:08Speaker 1: to clean a lot of stuff up, including the offensive line.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Here is transfer will conform be.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Well, I didn't come here only in hopes to play tackle.
- 48:21Speaker 26: I came here for, one, to get developed, and that's
- 48:23Speaker 26: something that I've just been thinking about the past couple
- 48:25Speaker 26: of days. After playing some guard, my coaches kind of
- 48:29Speaker 26: just saw a need for me to play guard, and
- 48:31Speaker 26: that was the best for our team, and so I'm
- 48:32Speaker 26: obviously going to be very cooperative and supportive of their decision.
- 48:35Speaker 3: I'd want to win.
- 48:37Speaker 26: That's what I came here for, and so to get
- 48:39Speaker 26: developed and to win games, and so I'm not a
- 48:41Speaker 26: selfish player. I'll do whatever it takes to win, and
- 48:43Speaker 26: so having the opportunity to play both tackle and guard
- 48:47Speaker 26: is good.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Are you as comfortable playing guard as you are captain?
- 48:51Speaker 26: I will say I am. Just because I played so
- 48:54Speaker 26: much more tackle, I'm obviously a little more comfortable there
- 48:58Speaker 26: in guard. But just my past experience playing at Alabama,
- 49:02Speaker 26: I played a lot of guard.
- 49:03Speaker 3: I played against a lot of.
- 49:04Speaker 26: Good players as well at guard, whether that was every
- 49:07Speaker 26: day in practice or against opponents. So I've been getting
- 49:11Speaker 26: really comfortable at guard almost to where I'm equally comfortable.
- 49:14Speaker 3: What do you think of Lamont and how he played
- 49:16Speaker 3: the right tackle?
- 49:17Speaker 26: Lamont did really well. That was also a big part.
- 49:20Speaker 26: Shout out to him of me being able to play
- 49:22Speaker 26: guard is because he's doing a good job. And so
- 49:25Speaker 26: trying to find a way to get the best five
- 49:26Speaker 26: guys on the field. And so whatever that looks like.
- 49:30Speaker 10: Did you go back and play some tackle in the
- 49:32Speaker 10: second half, though, in that game?
- 49:34Speaker 26: Yeah, I played a little bit of tackle, but mainly guard.
- 49:37Speaker 26: And so really just take it week by week, you know,
- 49:40Speaker 26: whatever my team needs.
- 49:43Speaker 13: How good is that that Coach Christian can utilize you
- 49:46Speaker 13: wherever he sees fit?
- 49:48Speaker 26: Yeah, I mean, I'm thankful for him and him as
- 49:50Speaker 26: a coach being able to prepare me to be comfortable
- 49:52Speaker 26: to play both because you only have so many practices,
- 49:55Speaker 26: so many reps, and so being able to be comfortable
- 49:57Speaker 26: to play both spots in a game versus really good players.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Is a testament to my coach.
- 50:02Speaker 8: How do you feel like the offensive line is going
- 50:03Speaker 8: to do this better with you at guard?
- 50:05Speaker 3: Man, I really don't know. That's a tough question.
- 50:08Speaker 26: I think that it really just depends on the opponent
- 50:11Speaker 26: and our game plan that week, but any way that
- 50:13Speaker 26: I can help our team be the best, that's what.
- 50:16Speaker 5: I'm all about.
- 50:17Speaker 23: What are the technical differences between right guard and right tackle?
- 50:22Speaker 22: Is it easier to play right guard even though you're
- 50:25Speaker 22: unfamiliar or it's not familiar?
- 50:27Speaker 26: There's things that are easier and harder that come with both.
- 50:30Speaker 26: I mean, playing guard, everything's a lot faster. Everything's on
- 50:32Speaker 26: you quick. So just being able to play, I'm a
- 50:35Speaker 26: really tall guy, so trying to stay lower and develop
- 50:39Speaker 26: myself in the.
- 50:40Speaker 3: Run game at guard as well. So that's something I've
- 50:42Speaker 3: been focusing on.
- 50:43Speaker 26: And luckily I've had a lot of good players that
- 50:46Speaker 26: I've played with in the past that I can kind
- 50:48Speaker 26: of call up or lean on for advice.
- 50:51Speaker 22: Have you seen kind of the offensive line grow over
- 50:53Speaker 22: these last few games?
- 50:55Speaker 26: Yeah, I think we're starting to form more of an
- 50:56Speaker 26: identity and just trying to establish more dominance in the
- 50:59Speaker 26: run and trying to be able to have the offense
- 51:02Speaker 26: lean on us a little bit more to be able
- 51:03Speaker 26: to run the ball. And then also just trying to
- 51:05Speaker 26: firm up our protection and give Marcel as.
- 51:07Speaker 3: Much time as he needs to go through his thing.
- 51:09Speaker 10: Did you feel like there was some kind of issues
- 51:12Speaker 10: with the run blocking early in the season?
- 51:13Speaker 14: And do you feel like y'all have grown some of that?
- 51:16Speaker 3: What ways have you grown?
- 51:17Speaker 26: Yeah, I definitely think, like, our focus has just been physicality,
- 51:21Speaker 26: being more physical, straining more, staying on blocks longer. And,
- 51:24Speaker 26: I mean, that's a given from week one to week
- 51:26Speaker 26: four to week five to week six. It's just more games,
- 51:29Speaker 26: more reps, more time, and more experience together. And so
- 51:32Speaker 26: that's a given. That's an obvious that we're going to
- 51:34Speaker 26: continue to improve each week.
- 51:36Speaker 8: What's been maybe the most frustrating part of the offense's
- 51:38Speaker 8: output for you guys these last two games?
- 51:41Speaker 26: I mean, the biggest thing for us is handling what
- 51:43Speaker 26: we can handle in our room. And so whether that
- 51:45Speaker 26: is not protecting Marcel the way that we should and
- 51:47Speaker 26: giving them the opportunity to succeed that we should, or
- 51:49Speaker 26: whether it's not staying on blocks, like I said to
- 51:52Speaker 26: him earlier. We're just trying to find out what it
- 51:54Speaker 26: is that we can do, our one-of-one and then our five-of-five,
- 51:57Speaker 26: what we can do in our room to be the
- 51:58Speaker 26: best and hold ourselves to the highest standard.
- 52:01Speaker 8: What do you know about this Arkansas defense that you
- 52:04Speaker 8: guys are going to face on Saturday?
- 52:05Speaker 26: They have a really good defensive front. They have a
- 52:07Speaker 26: lot of guys that play and rotate and a lot
- 52:09Speaker 26: of talented players up front. They have a good, talented box,
- 52:12Speaker 26: so it's going to be a great matchup.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I know it's still a few weeks away.
- 52:15Speaker 19: In case we don't get to talk to you again,
- 52:17Speaker 19: what's it going to be like to return to Alabama?
- 52:19Speaker 3: It'll be awesome.
- 52:20Speaker 26: I mean, it'll be a special time going back to Alabama,
- 52:23Speaker 26: playing against a really good defense once again. But, I mean,
- 52:25Speaker 26: my focus is on Arkansas this week. When you play
- 52:29Speaker 26: college football, every week comes so fast, it's too hard
- 52:32Speaker 26: to look ahead.
- 52:33Speaker 3: Do you think the energy level in the past two
- 52:35Speaker 3: weeks has not been where it's needed to be? No,
- 52:37Speaker 3: I definitely don't think so.
- 52:38Speaker 26: I mean, I think in our room and stuff, we're
- 52:41Speaker 26: just trying to bring the intensity, but that is definitely
- 52:44Speaker 26: something that we're focusing on. It's just being high-spirited, uplifting,
- 52:48Speaker 26: and go play.
- 52:48Speaker 3: Hard, play physical, and strain. That's our goal up front.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Is that a coach initiative or a player initiative? It's
- 52:53Speaker 3: a little bit of both. Who among the players is
- 52:56Speaker 3: leading that charge?
- 52:57Speaker 26: I mean, obviously our captains, but in our room, me, Mark, Tyrese,
- 53:00Speaker 26: some of the older guys who played a lot are
- 53:02Speaker 26: just trying to set the tone, bring the intensity, but
- 53:05Speaker 26: it's really everybody.
- 53:07Speaker 12: Why do you feel like that energy hasn't maybe been there?
- 53:10Speaker 12: Why have y'all been lacking in that area?
- 53:13Speaker 26: I think that as the season's going on, we're just
- 53:16Speaker 26: going to continue to get more confident up front, keep
- 53:18Speaker 26: developing our skill set, our chemistry up front, and we're
- 53:21Speaker 26: just going to continue to see more success up front.
- 53:24Speaker 8: How close do you think you guys are to finding
- 53:26Speaker 8: that next five that you're representing?
- 53:29Speaker 3: You know, I really don't know. I think.
- 53:32Speaker 26: It's just going to be a week-to-week thing. Some people
- 53:35Speaker 26: play really well in practice. Some people struggle a little
- 53:37Speaker 26: bit more in practice. So whatever happens, that we can
- 53:40Speaker 26: practice to give our staff and our players.
- 53:42Speaker 3: The confidence to go out there and dominate our opponent.
- 53:44Speaker 11: Is there a number of guys you think that's on
- 53:46Speaker 11: the line that could be a part of that?
- 53:49Speaker 8: How large is that stable do you think that could
- 53:52Speaker 8: make up that best five?
- 53:54Speaker 16: Man, I don't know.
- 53:55Speaker 3: I think eight. nine guys could be able to play.
- 53:59Speaker 3: That's just the reality of our offensive line.
- 54:01Speaker 26: We have a lot of talented players, some young guys
- 54:03Speaker 26: who don't have a lot of experience, but just being,
- 54:05Speaker 26: I mean, another thing that happens is injuries.
- 54:08Speaker 3: People get hurt, people get banged up.
- 54:09Speaker 26: It's a long SEC schedule and season, and so who
- 54:13Speaker 26: really knows what the future holds.
- 54:15Speaker 3: Was there a common denominator with the four sacks?
- 54:17Speaker 22: You guys gave up, and was that a product of
- 54:21Speaker 22: the second half having to throw kind of a lot?
- 54:23Speaker 26: Yeah, I mean, that's probably some of it, having to
- 54:25Speaker 26: throw more. And then just, like I said earlier, our
- 54:28Speaker 26: goal is to just strain as hard as we can
- 54:30Speaker 26: and know our assignment, communicate better, and just do the
- 54:33Speaker 26: best we can to give Marcel the time that he
- 54:35Speaker 26: needs to go perform at a high level.
- 54:37Speaker 1: And to decide to transfer here, I'm sure you didn't
- 54:39Speaker 1: think you'd be able to in SEC play.
- 54:41Speaker 3: So how do you handle that, and how do you
- 54:42Speaker 3: move forward?
- 54:43Speaker 26: Like I was telling him earlier, our weeks come so fast.
- 54:46Speaker 26: Saturday rolls around so quick. It's not much time to
- 54:49Speaker 26: sit back and pout and think, man, we're 0-2. It's
- 54:51Speaker 26: more like, here we go. We've got a really good
- 54:53Speaker 26: team coming here to try to kick our butt. We've
- 54:55Speaker 26: got to prepare for it the right way. Got any
- 54:57Speaker 26: ties to Arkansas players or anything special about playing Arkansas
- 55:00Speaker 26: for you personally? Yeah, I know a few players actually
- 55:03Speaker 26: on the defensive line, so that'll be cool after the
- 55:05Speaker 26: game because I'll talk to them briefly and spend some
- 55:07Speaker 26: time with them.
- 55:09Speaker 22: How have you seen Marcel kind of handle some of
- 55:10Speaker 22: the struggles, and what's your belief.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Of what will happen right now? I have a lot
- 55:14Speaker 3: of belief in Marcel.
- 55:15Speaker 26: He's one of the hardest workers on the team, and
- 55:17Speaker 26: I know he has a lot of pressure just as
- 55:19Speaker 26: every SEC or high-level quarterback has, but I got the
- 55:22Speaker 26: utmost respect and belief in Marcel, and I know that
- 55:24Speaker 26: he can do what he needs to do. We just
- 55:26Speaker 26: got to give him the time to go play at
- 55:27Speaker 26: a high level and just keep helping him breed his
- 55:30Speaker 26: confidence every day in practice and in the next.
- 55:32Speaker 3: Games to come.
- 55:33Speaker 1: Man, I wish every player was as well-spoken and thoughtful
