- 0:11[SPEAKER_03]: Except for the welcome on in, it is that time of week, it is the suitors on SI, podcast back for your, what is this, the penultimate normal show before the spring game and on that jazz, it's tiny key day next week as well, so we'll be bringing a lot of that next Wednesday since that's happening.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: Thursday, as Gabriel and I are at Devin Park, we're in Hatingham Star, which is super convenient for the most of the work on really at the mornings.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_03]: can't wait for that.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_03]: But that's all a week away.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_03]: We got some spring ball to get into.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_03]: We got something.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you Texas is softball to get into.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_03]: We got some portal happening.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_03]: Some of the men's women's basketball side.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_03]: And we got the normal crew here to do it up at the 918.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_03]: It is Mr. John Hoover.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_03]: John, have we finished battling our laptops as we are recording got a little delays.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_03]: We're like, what's up is happening.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_03]: We turned stuff on.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: Do settings are on.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: I wake up every day, my laptop's in a different state of existence.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: Here's all I know.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: This is my final Saturday coming up as a girl dad of a single woman.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, does that make sense?
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: My daughter gets married next Saturday, and the Hoover household is a, we're, we're scrambling, man.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: We are scrambling, just to be able to make it.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: What's the, what's the right word?
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Freaking planning and wedding is the, as the, as the father of the bride is insane.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll just leave her right there.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we just got out of our checklist season where thankfully I was responsible for like nothing and even I was just like this is a lot I don't know why people get married like I know like the the reason they get very just like the the wedding things like this seems like stress Thank you, but we offer the alope we offer the alope option.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: She said no.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: I want a big wedding.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: He's like Well, hopefully you got all the rain that Mrs. Hoover was waiting on that's the next thing that I've been thinking up there Got to be of course it be a death the Norman Carson how you be
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: pretty good gotten a lot of good content out there full football wise we are keeping you guys updated it's going to be September before we know it so I'm excited about that and it's masters week how could I be having a bad week so can't complain well seeing is that dudes listen to this podcast I guess we're contractually obligated to talk about the least exciting thing that happens in sports.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_03]: Chris got her up is in a featured group whatever the hell that means because we can't just broadcast a tournament because you know the old races white guys don't want you to you know say that their fans and stuff like that but does the former sooner have a shot this weekend to win with no what no tiger and Phil for the first time just 94 oh yeah I mean he's been playing as well as anybody on the tour I mean I don't know if I'd call him the favorite because Scotty
- 2:56[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we're going to all store phones away because, you know, we have to do all that stuff and that concludes the golf talk.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_03]: Thank God.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: We got Abraham up as well.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_03]: How are we?
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: Did you survive the punches heard around the world from former Braves and former cover last night?
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, I love me some Jorge Soler and I stand firmly on his side even if he's a
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: you know, a little wild.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it is a fun night and I will not be talking about or breaking down golf for sure.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm strictly a Sunday only if it's interesting.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Golf guy in majors.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll be keeping an eye on the upcoming NHL playoffs and the end of the NBA season.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_03]: In the realm of sooners, we'll just continue this.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_03]: We talked about got her up.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_03]: We need to pour one out for Mr. Horton as illiterapal, and then we hope that maybe it was gonna be a little bit better, and then it was actually, might be a little bit better, but still gonna miss the season, it's sad.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_03]: No, no building on a fantastic rookie season.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you just had to bring that one up, didn't ya?
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I should have realized it, but it was not a good night in the OU Pressbox, the other night when we found out that Cade Horton had left the game and got the unfortunate news.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's just part of being a Cubs fan though, right?
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, we had Justin Steele go through the same thing.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: He's still not back yet, hopefully we'll be back before too long, but hopefully Kate Horton can return and return well, because he was as good a picture as we've seen in a long, long time in the second half of the season, you know, any time somebody makes you think about Jake Arietta in the second half he had a few years ago.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, more than a few years ago at this point, time gets away from you, but Kate Horton was phenomenal and hated to see that for the former sooner and Norman product.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, one of the absolute stories of the year last year, but not able to build on that, unfortunately, no fault of anyone's just these things happen, unfortunately, in today's air, basically, baseball, but that'll do it for all the random sooner.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_03]: Let's get a little bit more narrow focus.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_03]: His spring has sprung the good news for everyone is unlike last year where we're having to like, one eye on spring game, while the master's is going on, and I think that it was basically a disaster
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: for everyone trying to keep up with both.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_03]: We get to separate those.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_03]: No spring game happenings until next weekend, but we did get to link up with Brent Vittables after practice number seven, as the sooners are nearing the midway point of spring ball.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_03]: And, of course, I know that we are both hanging out there last night.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: My biggest takeaway almost in a way, this is not the breaking news on this or that with the other spring is the time of year that every coach is happy.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: They don't have the stress of
- 5:54[SPEAKER_03]: a game coming up this Saturday.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's also this year a little bit different with no post spring portal and stuff like that, but preventable seemed like legitimately way more happy than just the normal, hey, two thumbs up, it's spray.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_03]: He seemed almost giddy about some of the progress that the sooner it said, made over these first seven practices, plus the OTAs and win a workout.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he doesn't seem satisfied or content, but he seems just happy with where they're at like you said constantly getting better and probably as he said at a better spot than they've been in years past.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, I think part of his attitude coming in a little bit less tense is say the fall media day last year.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: I know we all kind of agreed like that was a very tense version of rent than it was you don't really see that right now.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: He seems excited to tell us about how his football team looks.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_02]: on both sides of the ball, which I think that is a good sign.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: There's not, I mean, there's still a ton to prove they didn't win a play off game, but the seat's not as hot.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's cooled down significantly.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: This team at least has somewhat of an identity heading into the season, which you would think that plays into kind of his mood, at least around us.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_03]: Seems like he's very, very pleased with some of the new pieces, the new additions, talked about the Titan room and kind of the transpiration there.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to that here in a second.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_03]: He did confirm that Xavier Robinson's been dealing with a strain.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_03]: We saw him out there in a boot, last go around, last practice observations.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_03]: You can go and read those on the website, okwasunersonesside.com, talking about that.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_03]: But he said that
- 7:34[SPEAKER_03]: rehab process has gone good it was the quote there but it seems like that is one of a couple of positions that is going down where in a weird way like obviously you want no injuries ever things like that but John whether you look at defensive tackles where David Stone and Jane Jackson are serving as more of a coaching role things like this
- 7:56[SPEAKER_03]: Um, you've got, uh, we've seen in years past, someone like a Billy Bowman not really participating doing the mental stuff that's kind of kip blue as this go around, and the positions where you need more reps and more depth running back another one of those where it getting Jonathan Hatten Jr. does that been walker and then the kind of state transfer a lot of some extra steps.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_03]: Not the worst thing in the world as long as you get everybody back by summer workouts and things like that.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: If you get everybody back by then, find Xavier Robinson, probably just needs to take the rest of the spring completely off, doing maintenance work, rehab, whatever you want to call it.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: Because
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: The new running backs coach, Deline McCulloch, he's got this reputation of being, you know, super professional, having a real handle on things just in terms of his position group and how he wants that to look and who he's going to get snaps for.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: He knows what he's doing is what I'm getting out there.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: So that group has to come together, has to gel.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: I would assume,
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: sooner would be better than later, and I don't think that's, I think we're all in agreement on this podcast and probably quite a few people out there listening would agree that that's the thing, that's the one thing that kind of held the Markah Murray back, because his rotations going back four years when a guy would rush 23 times for 95 yards one week and then not get any carries the following week.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Is he healthy?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's 100% healthy.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Why didn't he play?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we just couldn't get him in the, you know, for whatever reason.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: That stuff got really, really frustrating for a lot of all you fans and really annoying eventually.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: And your, your hope at this point.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: I would assume is that your new run-and-backs coach knows what he's looking at, knows what he wants, knows what, how each guy fits into the offense and is able to, to put that together.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's what has to happen now.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now the spring football's wrapping up.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's what has to happen over the next few months.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_03]: you need that and you also need it kind of just I think speaks to one of the main lines, the through lines for Brentman will just hold time.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_03]: You get into Albeon post game first thing he's talking about is run games gotta be better.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_03]: Whether it's so the pre-spring stuff where he's talking about the run game being pathetic, it three and a half yards per carry, whether it's about instilling the mindset and all of that.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, I think that it's one of those things that Brett Vennos would say is the running reputation part of it.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sure is guy state healthy part of it.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sure is getting a bunch of these offensive linemen back that, uh, our healthy and then have another year, I think that they're looking at a holistic improvement that everybody has to be better.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_03]: To get that running game anywhere close to where they want it to be and and ride one of the things that we've been checking in on and and checking up on is the bodies look great for that tight-end room It's another year where we've talked about it.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_03]: You go out there and you look at it go don't actually look like tight-end ZCC tight-end But birthmentable said that that group is completely different.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_03]: It is transformed and that's the midway point of springball and that and that's before I think everyone's
- 11:02[SPEAKER_03]: like fully on the same page, 100% understanding every single thing that's going on in the playbook.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that that's only a good sign that these reviews are this good, this positive early knowing that there's so much more growth that can happen and how much better they can be.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think no doubt about that in that's position, obviously, that we had talked about a ton going into the spring and how transformed it was from a year ago, but also how important it was to sort of everything they do from running a football to the passing game.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: And just being able
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: OU has had such good tight ends and age backs and things like that for so long and it's allowed them to be much more dynamic offensively and that's really been missing over the last few years and to add in not only Hayden Hanson to that but Rocky Bears and some of the other ones these are guys that one especially in Hanson's case is proven
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: that he can be a big-time playmaker in this league when given the opportunity and certainly he'll have a chance in this offense and if they're able to do anywhere near the way that Brent Minibles and some of the others have talked about that group, I think they're going to this is going to be a significant step forward not only for that group, but for the offense as a whole and I think it was encouraging to hear Brent Minibles say that last night.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: it's one thing to say going into spring when you don't have that base with with those guys and have seen them out on the field a lot but now at this point in the spring I think it's you know really a whole lot easier to take that for face value and believe that this group is a whole lot different than what we've seen.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_03]: on and it's up to two cars I know we've gone to this stat a lot but running game is the running game uh... i know that jaren kannick was really good between the 20s last year but you go back a couple years for been our buckle uh... his final season washden state titans only caught twenty one passes so it's not like they were this oh my gosh this huge safety of everything like that but seven of those twenty one passes were
- 13:19[SPEAKER_03]: For touchdowns, you look what Hayden Hansen has done throughout his SEC crease, not like a 15 touchdown or anything insane like that, but he's been able to chip it in that sense, Rocky Bears last year at a really nice year as far as catching touchdowns goes.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_03]: Just to have like a six foot seven target in a Hayden Hansen,
- 13:37[SPEAKER_03]: to blend in with some of the guys we'll talk about whether it be a many choice at wide receiver who continues to get praise, who is another guy that towers over everybody with brick animals talks about they were pretty good in the red zone, but I know that they want to not just have a high percentage of scoring, which they were outstanding, but they want more touchdowns, less field goals.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_03]: They want to get there a lot more.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_03]: This is where as much as we talk about the games and the running game and that being such a huge focus.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_03]: I think they left a lot on the table as far as touchdowns in the red zone and that's where big body guys like this that tied in and some of those bigger body guys that receiver that you can come in and create some mismatch stuff.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen Ben O'Buckle do it in the past just wasn't really able to do it.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_03]: It wasn't equipped to do it a year ago.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: I totally agree with that.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: Especially you look at Rocky Bears.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: He was able to do it in a really bad color out of state offense last year.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember if it was seven eight touchdowns either way.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: It was a really good number.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, didn't handsome being six foot eight like you said, that's huge.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: Jack Van Dorsal there.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he played in all 13 games for Tennessee.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: wasn't a huge past catcher, but with his frame playing against the SEC, maybe he's someone that could be a target deep in the red zone, and especially if materials ever not having a great game.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: Just throw it to a big body, I feel like that's a better plan than some other options.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: It could be something that just gets you a first down, maybe it is a touchdown.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: It should be, I don't know if safety nets the right word, but kind of just
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: Someone reliable, um, just based on what we've seen from Hanson Bears, all of those guys in that room at their prior stops, I think this could be a really, really big game changer down in the red zone.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_03]: It also helps to have some of the stuff we've seen when we're out there at practice observations, which is Oklahoma taking a lot more steps under center than we really can ever remember.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_03]: In the modern just going out there to practice, even when they're just working on some of their half-blind stuff, some of that full-line stuff.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_03]: It becomes, I don't think that suddenly, Oklahoma's gonna become this offense, John, and year two and a our buckle that's under center, 85% of the time, or anything and same like that.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_03]: But,
- 15:38[SPEAKER_03]: When you talk about fire and off the football, things like that that we've talked about here in these last couple of weeks when you go out there you pair that in with some of that stuff
- 15:47[SPEAKER_03]: Part of Oklahoma not really having a play action game is that you've not had a running game you have to respect in that kind of method and things like that, but you have to imagine if we're going to do a lot of ifs here if the running game gets going then you get to the spot where you can try to get in some play action double move situation things like that because the opposing defense actually has to commit guys to the box and things like that, but it's also an if you're able to do that.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_03]: then you're able to run some double tight insets out there that everyone thinks that you're running when in years past it's like please put two tight ins on the field because that's a numbers advantage for us the defense that's when not only can they make that impact on the ground but then they can start to help you out as a play action on that second level not like a satay to get a run by everybody you certainly want that portion of it but it's just something that's been missing the nilcom offense really since great and willous maybe
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and something else that's been missing, going back to Dylan Gabriel, if you ask me, is the running game is not powerful enough authoritative enough to take over a game, right?
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to get your quarterback involved.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's what's great.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: What every team wants is a quarterback who can run when nobody expects him to run.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: What offensive coordinators don't want is a quarterback who can run because they have to run him on every play.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: Dylan Gabriel, remember the Texas game out, 100 yards rushing.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson Arnold came in and was running all over the place for a couple of times.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then obviously last year, a mature showed 19 carries, 20 carries in big games against Michigan and Alabama.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's not what you need out of your quarterback.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: You need a running game that can pick up those yards.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: So when you do decide to call a read option, or you do decide to run a quarterback keep, nobody's expecting it.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: And that thing goes for 10 or 15 or 20 yards.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of minus one yard, zero yards, three yards, minus two.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because that's what Oklahoma was getting out of their running game late in the last season last year.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_03]: That's where you get the geometry around the corner and it's just gone against like temple that you didn't get the rest of the year.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone knew that was kind of common.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_03]: Circumstances change with the hand injury.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_03]: I think we got all of that and that all kind of plays into some of the stuff that when he talked to Ben Arbock last week.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: He wasn't super willing to talk about the offense as he's been studying, especially in college, football, the ones that he likes to look at, things like that.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: He rushed to lean on that.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_03]: Everyone likes watching the Bengals and seeing what they do with Joe Burrow and Jamar Taisers.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I do too, because they've got predators out there that's a lot of fun, but I'm just kind of interested to see what that brain trust of.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_03]: You don't up the Kevin Wilson money if you're not expecting him to come in and
- 18:34[SPEAKER_03]: at being a little bit more help, you've also got just the deal of McCollough, Kevin Wilson, that brain trust that was very successful at Indiana, what is Jason, went and bring to the table and then what has been our buckle himself when to look out and look out.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: There's just something that everybody talks about.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we're doing stuff about things like that.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_03]: I'm excited to see what that actually looks like here.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_03]: In the fall, don't think we'll get like a peak of that at the spring game, obviously, because that's always as vanilla as can be.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_03]: should be fun as well i am excited of course once we get to the spring game to get first look at i has it to label it like a new look offensive line it's a lot of the pieces that we know right micopassus c still looks fantastic jake micol looks back to his best uh back up in health the after his infection the in the last year any period of the week was either right photo all that stuff excited to see what i'm here as can kind of look like in the couple of moments where they kind of let it loose though because
- 19:25[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it's someone that I think everyone understood that was a lot of SEC experience coming in, but it's just you look across it and this feels a lot different than the last two years when you're talking about returning production at Oklahoma, returning production as far as a transfer that has that SEC experience.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_03]: If you're looking to second wave guys, it's guys that have started at Oklahoma as opposed to not.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_03]: every bit of those guys.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_03]: You got your Peyton Josephs, your cape, Caleb Needa, but I'm excited to see just what that looks like because it's one thing to talk about on paper.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if I grasped how important he might be when that addition was made over the offseason.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, all lines never gonna be the first thing we talk about.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's just not sexy, but I'm with you.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_02]: This is an exciting thing to talk about, considering how promising a lot of those pieces looked late last year, whether that's Michael Fassouci, Ryan Fouci, Eddie Perilvoui, then adding an SEC experience guy like a Mario on Harris.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's big.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: Also excited to see some of the reserves in the spring game, whether that's Caleb Nida, Peyton Joseph, a lot of the guys.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, you mentioned Michael are coming back.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's huge For bet you did a pretty good job considering that was not his natural position last year But just having that stability someone who's used to playing center got a like that This thing it's funny because last fall we talked about what the hell is this gonna look like the line?
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: This is a big question mark for this team.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_02]: They charted out so many different rotations in 24.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, it certainly had its moments of incompetency, but more often than not, I felt like there was a lot of progress.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: A lot to look forward to, whether that's the young guys, some of the guys like Fibetri who held it down.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that there is a lot that this unit can build on.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's something that I'm like you said, really excited to see in the spring game.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_03]: Speaking of the bet, she just came down from Ian Rappapore.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_03]: He visited with the Bengals yesterday in the Giants today, and I have to imagine, as we've talked about, that those snaps at center of those last two weeks, it's not a theoretical thing.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_03]: It's teams have this little taken delish you, and against Alabama.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_03]: I think that teams are going to really enjoy that.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_03]: And he certainly, we talked to a pro day said that that was supposed to be back as well.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: And then just kind of round out some of the op-ins stuff Ryan Carson right now has a story up on the site
- 21:44[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe not those top line guys, not your trail harris, your satanias, your park or living students.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_03]: But who might be candidates to be in that rotation?
- 21:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's certainly been a lot of many choice positivity Ryan.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like some other guys have come in McKinsey, Aliane, Aliane, excuse me.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_03]: has come back yet in that familiarity in the Washington state system.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's not like a ton of overlap or anything like that.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_03]: But having enough of it to come in, it sounds like that.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody else as well that has made his bear share of plays early, especially as they get into, they've got like one situational scrimmage down at the end of last week.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think, you know, uh, going through uh, Brent Venibals comments last night, I think the McKinsey Elaine stuff, however you pronounce it, sorry if I butcher that.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: But, uh, was maybe one of the most interesting because here's a guy that I don't think,
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: When I saw what he had done at Washington State and, you know, knew the connections and everything, I figured, you know, eventually he could get to a place where he could contribute, but I wasn't sure how much he would contribute in, in 2026 and I'm still not, honestly.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: But I think when you get this opportunity, you have to seize it and take advantage of it at the, you know, highest level that you can.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: and to hear some of the stuff that Brent Minimal said last night about him and the what kind of football player he was but also the way that he's attacked things you know sort of day to day I think he said well I think it was about many choice actually he said he's got a high give a crap meter which you know was probably the quote of the night last night but
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like I said, it doesn't mean for sure that they're going to be, you know, integral pieces to this wider seaver group in 2026, but when you get these opportunities, you better take advantage of them.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: And to this point, at least it seems like those guys have, and at least it gives them a chance to be, you know, contributors in the significant way to this offense.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: It'll be good to see that.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_03]: It'll be good to see on the other side of things so that depth along the defense.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like returns to the defensive line.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's been good.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_03]: I still think that Oklahoma very much would like Owen Heinecky to return at linebacker just because that only having kip Lewis and Cole Solvin is healthy guys who have played a lot of college football is a scary thought going into that.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_03]: Now that's filed in an Oklahoma court with an Oklahoma judge, the NCAA does it
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think that on the court seat, Oklahoma is like overly concerned about that.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_03]: We shall see there, but it'll be interesting to see at safety of things you need to build that debt that have heard good things about.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm all right Robinson got to talk to him last night and I just like that he was able to straight up be like, yeah, man.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_03]: I learned last year I was not ready for this, physically mentally like it's so much happening and you're one in the SEC and usually when guys are that candid, I really liked that because it usually means that they understood, okay, I came in thought I was great as a true freshman.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_03]: One thing is a true freshman that you're like a junior but as a true freshman, I thought I was this and I'm here
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: And everybody else is up here.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_03]: And now they know what that level is and what they need to get there.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_03]: And with Marion Robinson and then Michael Boganowski, who's a step beyond that, right?
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: Because he's played an extra year and gotten in that rotation course.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's going to be a positive as they continue to build up.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_03]: Back there, that's one of those things that you can always do.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_03]: Reggie Powers and Jeremiah Duke, if you need them back in there, it's not like they don't have guys.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_03]: They just like to move some guys down to Cheetah possible.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I feel like having spear shinnings bow in the last couple of years has really helped develop the depth of the safety room, some of that secondary, just because there is so much experience getting the chance to just kind of rest guys, put them under, not need to have them ready right away, is probably made them better players and really helped them learn quite a bit.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: You look at Boganowski, I thought he was really impressive when he did get a snap.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: started to take some of Robert Speer's Jinning snaps toward the end of last year.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: So really excited to see what he can do, Marian Robinson, another one of those guys like you mentioned.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the second area is going to be very interesting obviously bow and coming back.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's huge.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: And just really curious to see minus a lot of those guys that have roles, not major ones, but have roles.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's a part of the favor of other powerful programs.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Just so they could get more
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: leeway there, curious to see who kind of takes the spot of some of those guys, so it's going to be interesting.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_03]: It will for sure, and I think last little bit here, less, oh, you related, but we are building toward a high-naked day.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_03]: It looks like in years in the future, we might be moving away from even have to worry about this.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_03]: This came out this morning, sources, telling Ross Downger at Yahoo John, that the NCAA is moving forward with the behind-the-scenes process of getting this real ready, which would be, whether it's your 19th birthday, or from when you graduate high school, either,
- 26:53[SPEAKER_03]: You get five years, no red shirts, no waivers, five years is five years, which that's something that John, oh and the first time we talk to him, and basically said, you can see it's trying to crack down on this.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_03]: This seems like the next logical step, I still don't know how this, we don't have like a version of the red shirt rule.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_03]: And other sports, that seems to hear no there, but feels like this is direction of travel for football at least and before long, I don't think we're gonna have to do all this complicated is this a COVID year, did they get waivered for this year?
- 27:20[SPEAKER_03]: That year's going to be like, you got five, five years to play five, and you don't have to worry about the four game-red shirt roller or anything like that.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this is part of the Trump executive order.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little slice of it.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: They're taking pieces of it now and they're going to try and build on it.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good thing overall because college football, you don't need 26, 27 year old guys out they're playing against 18, 19 year old guys.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's ridiculous, in any sport.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: But the whole thing about the red shirt, no red shirt, you have five seasons to play five years.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you're healthy all five and you don't need a red shirt, you know, there are no more red shirts.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's the way this thing is looking.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm skeptical that it's gonna shake out like that.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the things that Ross put on that on his breaking news tweet was that no more red shirts and no more,
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: Appeals waiters no more waivers no more no more waivers unless of course You hire a good lawyer who takes it to court in five's a temporary injunction and gets a temporary restraining.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it sounds great on on the surface.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: It sounds like this is the direction we we want college boards to to head that would be great Get the lawyers involved Everything goes sideways
- 28:37[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen across the SEC and across the country through like every step of the way It's the last one that they lost the Alabama basketball player mate like that's the first or the last one The NCAA one excuse me because other than that.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's just kind of been like yeah
- 28:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think Joey Aguaro is one of the last NCAA wins, too.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_03]: Joey and then we'll see on Chandler Morris, all the Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chandler and Chand
- 29:15[SPEAKER_03]: a little bit of uh uh it feels like we're ramping back up into football mode.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_03]: It's just some of the Oklahoma comms people were out, they were in Vegas with the basketball team when uh they were out on their crown bench.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get to the crown here in a second and we'll get to all the portal happenings.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_03]: But first we do have to stop in with everything going down in the world of OU softball.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, a massive week in the softball world, it's huge anytime Oakland Texas get together, but specifically any time Patty Gasso and Mike White get together.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_03]: They're generally fireworks added to the fact that it's a top five series down in Austin.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: That is some extra sauce on top of that, add into the fact even further that Texas dropped two of three to Alabama and suddenly it's a spot where now Oklahoma won the SEC with seven losses last year, so I don't think that even if the sooner it's going down and when the series are sweet that it like officially knocks Texas out, but if you simply go down and win the series
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: I'll let you say you win it two and one.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_03]: You'll be 13 and two and Texas will be what?
- 30:17[SPEAKER_03]: 10 and five.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_03]: That's a lot to make up Ryan and it's a spot where the competition level a little bit different between Texas having Alabama last weekend at Oklahoma plan.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_03]: A Kentucky team that is injured and struggling.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_03]: But it was about a good a week in as you could have asked for if your Oklahoma ramping up into the biggest weekend of the regular season.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no doubt about it and not just because of the results, because I think all of us expected OU to sort of run away from Kentucky and every game of that series, but also the offense getting back on track after some issues against LSU, even though their pitching staff is really, really good, but also the pitching staff continue to continue to come along
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: you know, Sydney Burzon continues to get better and just the way that they're able to roll out, you know, all of their pitchers, but especially that core group, the, you know, the starters and Alyssa Parker, I thought that was a pretty significant move forward for them and they're going to need it this weekend and, uh,
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: you know Texas is a team that even though they're coming off that series lost to Alabama they're still very very dangerous and there's a lot of familiar faces in that lineup there's you know a couple of familiar faces in that pitching staff generally that is favored the sooners but you know Mike White also is you know one of the best pitching guys around as well and I think that sort of chess match and we talked about it on the podcast on
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: the chess match between Mike White and JT Gasau will just be fascinating to see this week as different hitters, make adjustments, do you know what does Texas do, how do they match things up, you know, what does Tegan Kavan look like, you know, her season has been really up and down, but she's been a workhorse for them, the rest of that bullpen, so it'll be a fascinating weekend in Austin for sure.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_03]: I can't wait, as we kind of talked about on Monday, and if you missed it, Mondays, same podcast feed, or if you're on the YouTube, just had to John Hoover Media on the YouTube and Abraham.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_03]: I get together.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_03]: Recap the week and that was preview.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not going to talk to Patty and crew yet.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_03]: That'll happen on Wednesday evenings.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be in Norman for that, but a situation where
- 32:39[SPEAKER_03]: I always feel like I kind of know what you're going to get at the L-Parker and Cassidy Pickering, which is really, really good play all the way around, and I just can't wait to see what does akin to well.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_03]: So, like in her first Texas matchup, what does Kai Miner look like as far as that goes, because as much as we talk about leaning on the veterans and things like that,
- 32:57[SPEAKER_03]: Freshman J to Colman, Freshman Terri Jr.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_03]: They had a lot to say about this Texas series and what has happened there.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_03]: And you just eat last time they went down there.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_03]: It was the first time in, it felt like ages, that Oklahoma had even dropped a conference series, as much as last one of the Texas things like that.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it didn't result in like a mental edge last year in Norman for Texas as they got swept at a love field, but they were able to get that singular game in the one's cultural series, which was their first win, north of the red river in nearly a decade, it gives to Oklahoma that I just wonder if Texas still has a little bit of that mental block that it seemed like they played with for years and years and years or if
- 33:36[SPEAKER_03]: getting eye-wintered Oklahoma City last year, getting that series when the last time these two teams played in Austin is enough to kind of level the playing field a little bit more as far as not being worried about some of the X-backed or intangible stuff because for the longest time it's just been like, man, you might feel great about your matchup or what, but I just don't know this has been a case in the bedroom series for a long time on the softball side of things and certainly know your text is like,
- 34:00[SPEAKER_03]: Are they actually going to be mentally tough enough to get out there and actually tip Oklahoma off the top of the mountain day in two different ways they've kind of done that here in the last two seasons.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think, you know, to me, the mental edge while still on OU side overall, as certainly you know gotten better on the Texas side and I think like you said that that series went a couple of years ago, but especially the win last year in Oklahoma City and it just gives them much more confidence and
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we've talked about it a lot, you know, not only this year, but in the past that a lot of times, oh, you just shows up and they've already beat you or already put up, you know, five runs just because of who they are.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that dynamic has shifted a little bit for for Texas.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: uh... in that uh... he's gonna have to go out and beat them straight up and play well and and they certainly can uh... but there's just not that uh... you know looming sense of doom on the other side that uh... it's all going to fall apart at at some point so it will be fascinating to see how the the young players respond uh... this weekend i think a big test for them you know obviously went down to hell issue a couple weeks ago and had some success but
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: not sustained success on the offensive side.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think the way that those freshmen handle this series, I think will go a long way.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: And whatever way this series plays out, I think can be a learning experience for that group, for some of the things that they're going to face here on down the line, whether it's the remainder of the regular season, or as we take a turn into the postseason.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_03]: Starts the big grind, broke a home of four straight series against teams that have just basically been fixtures in the top 16, which is we know you're basically playing a super regional every weekend, two top 10 series on the front end, the top five series in Austin, and the GASO, both next weekend, that'll be sprinkled around the spring game, yay for us, no sleep, no rest for the wicked.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_03]: Then you got George on the other side of that coming into dorm before you head down to college station.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: For the matchup, we
- 36:09[SPEAKER_03]: wanted so badly last year and just couldn't ever get whether it be by regular season schedule or the SEC decided they don't actually care to play a championship game, which was, you know, it, well, you had the first in experience with that.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, to be fair, there was no way to get that game in, I know everybody, you know, there was much gnashing of teeth over the way that they declared them coach champions and things like that and I get it, but you know, being in Athens that
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: it was just not going to happen and you know what do you do you keep them there in extra day and have to mess with that no really didn't make sense especially given where those teams were but yeah it'll be great to finally see that match up on the field.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: uh... between those two programs because if we were really looking forward to it last year texas and him was really really good i think maybe some of that gotten forgot got forgotten with the way that the their season ended uh... but uh... you know that was one of the matchups that we were really looking forward to last year and i think it'll be a fascinating one again here uh... in a few weeks
- 37:15[SPEAKER_03]: should be fun, that'll start off May.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_03]: So a little bit of a ways from that.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_03]: The baseball side of things, not able to take down Alabama, drop two of three in Norman headed out to Vandy, had the, if I had though taken a step back and told everyone that Oklahoma was gonna go two and all in midweek games against Dallas Baptist and when convincingly and head down to the DFW and get after it,
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: I think everyone would have booked out every room at Omaha and said, it's done, it is done, they have finally figured it out, they got going.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's a weird spot car, it's exactly what I'm saying, it's much like that LSU series where it's like the talent on the roster has not matched up with how LSU has played really at any point this year.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_03]: And then you thought LSU would just go to turn the quarter last weekend and then they dropped the turd, the Bethoon Cookman last night.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_03]: Similar thing with like Vandy, like...
- 38:04[SPEAKER_03]: With the way that they've played so far, it doesn't strike as much fear as if you had just looked at it blindly earlier in the year, but I also think that there's not a single person in Oh, use clubhouse, coaching staff that is like feeling super, it's not that they're not competent themselves, but like they understand what going to Nashville means and what taking down that bandie team is going to take.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, we've talked a little about it throughout the season on this podcast that Georgia and Texas look fantastic.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_02]: They look like the teams to beat.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_02]: And then after that, it's a lot of good teams, whether that's OU, Vanderbilt, A&M, LSU, Tennessee, Florida.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of these teams that are usually Omaha contenders.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: Look like they're just kind of maybe the whole
- 38:48[SPEAKER_02]: But because of that, oh, you still has even after a disappointing weekend against Bama getting swept the taxes.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: They still have a fairly good chance to host, but this is a massive series going on the road against Vanderbilt.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, you want a couple of championships in the last decade, a great program.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: They can't pitch.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's the thing.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_02]: They can't really pitch.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: That got exposed last week in the against Texas A&M.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_02]: The one game they won, they won 14 to 8 and then gave up, I believe, a combined 20 runs in the next two games.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, the pitching has certainly been a struggle.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: But so, as I use offense, you look at that.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_02]: That was the big thing.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, LJ Mercurius didn't have his best stuff.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_02]: They gave up 10 runs in the first two innings on the Thursday night game.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: But the next two games, they won game two, didn't win game three.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_02]: Game two could have been a blowout.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_02]: If the offense was better, game three, they should have won.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_02]: Only runs were scored on underruns, I believe, for Alabama.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: Certainly a lot of soul searching for the offense, but it did look better against Dallas Baptist, as you mentioned.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: Dallas Baptist may be not what they usually are as far as being a really dominant mid-major, but that's still a quality program, well-coached program.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, this program given the history against DBU, you will take two wins against the Patriots, any way you could get them even if they're a little down, just really fascinated by how this series is going to play out this weekend.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: Carson, you said this week series at Vanderbilt is massive.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: Here's how massive it is.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_00]: Vanderbilt is the 10th place team in the SEC right now standing.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_00]: Oklahoma is the 11th place team.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: If that tips one way or the other, you're going to see one of those teams emerge as a really legitimate candidate to host a regional.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: 100% and I think it's one of those things that you look at the SEC.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: Even some of those oh they're good, they're maybe not great yet.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: Some of those teams are going to get regionals.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: You just have to find a way like they did against LSU and A&M to win some of those close games, those one run games.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_02]: You can get outscored in this series and still win 203.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's going to be huge this weekend.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: Next week in Missouri is kind of the bottom
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: Still one of the easier series in the SEC but one that maybe you can't just coast through as easily as you thought so I mean Every week ends tough in the SEC this year.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: There is no misery by it doesn't seem like so The hitting's gonna step up Cameron Johnson though.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: I do want to mention him he he's been fantastic each of his two last outings Didn't get rewarded for it against Texas did on Friday against Alabama
- 41:23[SPEAKER_02]: he was fantastic which does affirm when he's on he is one of the best pictures in college baseball when he's off he does look really rough but definitely is stepping the right direction for him bullpen bullpen bullpen man for those guys that got to get better in the bullpen and it's been that way you know on and off for several years now so we at least we know what to expect
- 41:44[SPEAKER_03]: be a thing right now and some of the skip talk about this that they've got to figure out a way to start better in these series and he's kind of done the if I knew what was wrong we would have fixed it like trust me so try to figure out that but we will see it's led to a cursed Friday slash Thursday on the series at certain Thursday.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_03]: Curse doesn't matter if it's LJ or K and whoever's starting first not God well for the most part outside of Kind of opening week and so we will see as far as that goes basketball fraud mixed reviews out of the crown Winniekins Colorado that was ugly at times and good at times then Call them against Baylor and then the highs and the lows of the port of mosa experience like you just want to put up one game up there That was the West Virginia game, but
- 42:24[SPEAKER_03]: Did cash out 100k for everyone.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_03]: I sincerely hope that everyone went and put that on red.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_03]: I suppose and see if they can make 200k out of it on their way out the door.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_03]: But there's no rest for anyone as we heard of straight into portal season Carson.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_03]: First stop, loose decay, coming over from Clemson.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_03]: We ask, what does the resource resource resource look like?
- 42:43[SPEAKER_03]: The first thing is getting Porterbozer a GM to help run stuff as opposed to like sitting one staff with, we need you to be part assistant, part deops, part GM, part just wizard and fortune teller, which is what you kind of need a little bit in the transfer portal as well.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 100%.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just showing that Rosha didn't really is putting his footwear as mouth is just really giving border a lot of these resources, getting a general manager.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's going to help get the right talent.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_02]: Giving fewer excuses, I think, for this program with a new GM, with the resources that are going to be added.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: Fewer excuses if this team does continue to underperform.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like we've talked about, there's
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: plenty to praise about the last few months the season ended certainly the end of the West Virginia game was not the ending that they wanted they were up 12 points I believe it was with about four minutes left, blowing that allowing a 13-0 run to end over time.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: Now I deal showed the worst of the portal, the Porter Moser experiment, but something to build on, I talked about this that I think it's great that they played a lot of teams,
- 43:53[SPEAKER_02]: for a state, for example, to climb any non-incelibrates tournament post-season.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't love that, but seeing OU make a deep run at the crown, Auburn, when the NIT, you've got to think that's going to benefit those programs going in the next season.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, some guys leaving it both places, but the ones that are staying, getting them more time with the coach.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: I've got to like that, and I think that will help, at least at the very least build some chemistry.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_03]: moral is open.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_03]: You've had a handful of departures.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_03]: The three that we're not going to truthfully spend any time on.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_03]: Jeff Moncro was, well, as an internal matter, didn't travel to the crown.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_03]: Andre's holes couldn't get a visa, couldn't play.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_03]: And J. Canton, who's notables is that he was a high-roader's high school teammate.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_03]: They're out the door.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_03]: Those are Rostos Pato.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_03]: Come us going to be able to figure out that's no issue.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_03]: Helping a loss is Qualotalk, a guy that we know he has the skill of shooting.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that Qualotalk cares to do anything else on the last one for other than shoot, and that includes dribbling, certainly not playing deep events.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, I don't know if this is make or break, but it's somebody just with a rather captain been able to try to build something up.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: No, 100%.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you mentioned that the three point ability shooting over 40% as a venture freshman really impressive.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_02]: I liked what I saw as far as the defense still wasn't there at the crown, but he did drive in a little bit more thrown down some really good dunks in phases this year.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, I think there's definitely a room that he would improve offensively, and I think he will improve.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_02]: The defense is the big question mark though because at times you saw this that we're about five games in a row that he either played like two minutes or zero minutes In SEC play, so it was clear that Moser was Moser wasn't just pleased with his defensive effort But that's something that if it does get cleaned up, I think he can be a really good player for another high major program
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you don't see many six foot nine players who can shoot over 40 percent.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: The offense is certainly gotten better away from just the catching shoot three pointers.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: So if that continues to get better, his defense even becomes serviceable.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't have to be a good defender, but if he gets serviceable, I think I think that could be one that the seniors look back on like, man, we should have done something to keep him in Norman.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, I have to ask you a question.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: The Porter Moser experience we all talked about it, we've known about it, we know what it is, we can identify it.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: That game that we saw the other night was like a core sample of what the Porter Moser experience is.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: You've got the ability to get that big of a lead on a team, you also have the inability to keep it.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: you hear a lot from fans and from from people who support the program.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: Those boys never quit.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: You've got to love that about Porter Moses teams.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: They just never quit.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely true.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: But at some point, I think the mental process that goes into winning a basketball game starts to
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: present itself like this is how the guys this is why some coaches are successful every year you're in a year out because they know how to close games they know how to finish games whatever you could talk about coaching you could talk about X as I know is all you want my question is
- 47:10[SPEAKER_00]: Do doubt start creeping into the player's mind because this has happened like 30% of the time Look like they get a big lead and They doubt they can hold it.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: They start playing making plays that are inexplicable like why would you do that?
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: How what made you thought that was a good idea?
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: And there's just as something something is clouding the player's ability to finish games because you see it Like I said 25 30% of the time in the in Porter Moser stay at OU
- 47:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that's a fair question in this one that I don't really have the answer to.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's very possible, I feel like you look at, I feel like Porter Mosers teams have a chance to get out of big holes early in games.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_02]: You saw that against West Virginia going down 15 points.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_02]: This team really does shoot their way back into it, finally tighten up defensively, but it is those last few minutes.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_02]: We saw that in games against Missouri, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Alabama, time and time again throughout the season.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: It does seem like
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: is it bad play design?
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: Is it just this mental block that the players have because it has become kind of habitual?
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's hard to know, but it's something that plagued them this year certainly and it's going to be a big.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's got to be a big offseason focus for this team.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and real quick, on the scouting report on the other side of the floor, those guys are like, okay, these guys have a history of collapsing.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: You guys just stay at it.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: Here's what we're going to do.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to bring it back to us.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be right back in the skin.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: The other team has the ability to come back because they know it's going to happen.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_03]: to say it was already valley.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_03]: So, you know, I think everyone knows where I stand on Porter Moser.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_03]: Is anybody breaking down Kevin Keats' door for jobs?
- 48:50[SPEAKER_03]: We just had a big hiring cyclist, Kevin Keats was he, big anything because he's got a final four, which I'm told that's why Porter Moser, that's the evidence that he can coach and he's got better overall records and in conference records.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_03]: I mean,
- 49:06[SPEAKER_03]: He was, his, his porém was our great coach.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_03]: Did he have one special group that did he get in there?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, but it also took eight years to figure life out at Loyola.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_03]: And we will see the other thing is what do we learn from like Michigan?
- 49:18[SPEAKER_03]: Just be really, really big.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if Oklahoma's going to have the investment to go out and be really, because Abraham here, here's a thing that an issue that Oklahoma had a year ago, we're going to have to battle is.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_03]: resources resources will they gave them more resources last year and that's not like a negative it's just that they got more resources and fell in the SEC like total NIL thing that that's got to be it can't just be more resources it has to be comparatively more resources and Porter might be a better fundraiser than he is a coach, but I just don't know who's looking to fork over millions of dollars to watch that crap anymore
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, something's got to, got to give there.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I like some of the things that they're doing.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about adding the GM and the things that Roger Denius said, the things that Porter Moser talked about, about investing in the program and some other coaches have talked about.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, investing in their programs and that's something you've got to do, but yeah, they've got to narrow the gap.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: It can't just be moving the gap because other programs are taken steps forward as well.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're not able to close that significantly, you're going to fall behind.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's to me one of the biggest things.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: Porter Moser I think was great for what college basketball was at the time and I think it is higher made a lot of sense.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_01]: I've said this a couple times, but
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: there's still questions over whether he can adapt and work in the framework of what college basketball college athletics period, but especially college basketball is right now and he struggled to to find that footing, but I think it's what Carson said, you take away the excuses for not having success and either at one point, some point, you've got to either have success or, you know, decided time to move on.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: No arena coming right around the corner guys one point two billy We'll save everybody go save everything
- 51:24[SPEAKER_03]: It'll be great, it'll be more than the Global Center, which is just misery.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_03]: So that'll be good.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_03]: But you look around like, LSU will wait.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_03]: I have to assume he's not coming back home if they're not going to be up in that money.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_03]: So that's a team that even if you were, you know, or if you were behind them or not, like that's that much more resources to just stay on level footing with another one of the worst teams in the SEC.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen elsewhere, like South Carolina was one that basically said like,
- 51:53[SPEAKER_03]: Canning our coach, let's do the exact same thing and put more money into resources.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_03]: What does that kind of look like?
- 51:59[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if anyone knows truly for, like, sapped Carolina and things like that.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: But that's what we talk about when it's like, hey, you could put forth significantly more resources.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_03]: But if you're not not only matching, but surpassing that stuff, then it becomes a situation where you go, okay, well, I don't really know what that was all about.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_03]: And I truly don't know what the continued
- 52:17[SPEAKER_03]: persistence with Porter Moser is other than just we've talked about the financials and that apparently Roger did he just not actually have aspiration to if you did you wouldn't bring back Porter Moser for another year but that's for another time uh schools that are programs that are trying to uh map some aspirations well sooner women they are in a different situation they've got their centerpiece Italy is Chavez they did lose a band of the portal which was a bit of a surprise at least to this reporter as far as that goes we saw that news on
- 52:45[SPEAKER_03]: Saturday, I think, is Abraham.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_03]: I believe it loves field.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_03]: You've got like entire programs in the portal like
- 52:53[SPEAKER_03]: Tennessee feels like the entire Iowa state programs in the portal the entire and what Tennessee that's a literal statement yeah no like that literally every single player plus their five star asked out of their nest I think they have one signy that has not asked out of their letter of intent so that's Kim called well you're doing great uh it sounds like Oklahoma is at least interested in bringing
- 53:17[SPEAKER_03]: a couple of pieces in from Iowa State.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_03]: The big one was Oklahoma's an early group link with Audi Crooks.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_03]: Abraham is that going to be a disaster?
- 53:27[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't use Reagan beers.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_03]: Are they going to reuse Audi Crooks if they bring her in on a visit?
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think to me, that would be a difficult matchup, although I think there are certainly some things.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_01]: Audit Crooks is a fantastic player.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_01]: I just question whether she fits in with Jenny Baronchic system now atty Brown on the other hand.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think that could be a fantastic fit.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: for what she brings, what six foot two, I think.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_01]: She gives them a little bit of size and she's been phenomenal when she's been healthy to this point.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I think it's gonna be really interesting to see what kind of pieces they build around Alia Chavez because I was surprised that Zaivan entered the portal especially given one of the steps that she took for this year, although I think maybe
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: She sort of outgrew the role because she knew she was never going to be, you know, the guard With the Lea Chavez on the roster and and certainly I think Zaivan proved that she she can be that type of player This year with some of the successes that she had, but you know her family history things like that still a little surprising she left
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, Jenny Baronchex got a good base, but need to add a couple pieces to that to, you know, give them a chance to make another run next year.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you look at a play like France.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_03]: He was hurt last year, so it's hard for me to like really do a ton of stuff with the numbers to the phone games, but a 38% three point shooter her freshman year, 36.2, her sophomore year, that feels like something that they would like to pair with Leah Chavez, because as dynamic as Leah was, Oklom is a team just shot the ball very poorly from deep and that would be something another one I mentioned in his,
- 55:12[SPEAKER_03]: Keely Park, so Oklahoma finished pretty highly regarded in that recruitment, the former Normanite, or I guess always Normanite, former five star recruit, all that stuff went up to KU.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_03]: She was also incredibly banged up virtually all year long, so I don't think anyone got a real
- 55:28[SPEAKER_03]: indicate on what she can or or can't be her things like that, but I just wonder if that's something that would be an appealing thing, or if you look around and go, you've got to leave a chavez.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_03]: If I'm still in the mindset of I'm the five star recruit, I was just heard at, I just don't know what that looks like.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_03]: So, be interesting to see there as we hurdle toward portal
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: badness for clothes with this, Abraham, Oklahoma women's gymnastics, they just get to, they should just start giving them a bite of Fort Worth and just be like, you guys don't have to do the regional thing.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: There's no need to go to Lexington.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_03]: You are one of the best teams in the country and you will compete for a national championship, but all the, all the same, they qualified and will be down at Fort Worth to try and defend the national title.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought that even though the ultimate outcome was less than surprising, I mean, they've won what was at 17 straight.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think NCAA regionals at this point, I think it was still a significant step forward for them.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you look at the way that they bounce back on the vault, particularly the finals night.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_01]: after the the problems that they had at the SEC season.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: Tulsa a couple weeks before.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: Faith Torres phenomenal once again bounces back on the beam after an uncharacteristic slip from her in the opening round of regionals or the second round, I guess they call it a regional sense.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_01]: There is one like play in game sort of thing that they do.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_01]: uh... but uh... o u right now even though they lost in the cc championships they are the favorites uh... going down to fort worth and it just seems like kj kennler knows how to push the right buttons she did that uh... this weekend and uh... you know they made a little bit of a statement after the uh... disappointment of uh... finishing second in the cc's but uh... they
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think you look at the youth that they have, the freshmen that are performing just out of their minds right now and just the way that they're coming together overall as a team.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: And with the way that the format works now, I think that's going to play into their hands as well.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: And certainly worked out last week getting to start off on the vault and get off to a big lead and they just sort of roll from there.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_03]: Should be good.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_03]: We will keep tabs on everything, obviously.
- 57:45[SPEAKER_03]: We got plenty of coverage of the sooner's trip out to Vandy on the baseball side of things.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_03]: Abraham, I will be holding it down from home here, but you'll still have every angle of Oklahoma and Texas that you could ever want or need as far as that goes.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_03]: And then we will rerack and be ready for another massive week next week at Bellum Softball, Heighting He Day.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_03]: Spring game all of that fun stuff and thankfully move it all out the way so everyone's celebrating Enjoy the Masters Week and hope it hands out much like a lot of these new tournament happenings did which were very very fruitful weekend weekend week in the weekend and then we'll be off
- 58:26[SPEAKER_03]: or hanging out.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_03]: I'm running a channel.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_03]: Monday, I suppose, on the softball show on this speed, everyone will talk to you then.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_03]: We'll talk to you on the here, on the big.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_03]: As soon as I say bye, next Wednesday, have a good one, everybody.
