- 0:03Speaker 1: But it's not just us two this morning. We've got
- 0:04Speaker 1: a lovely girl in the studio. OK, so in the
- 0:08Speaker 1: studio I love doing this for our guest. Yes, yes,
- 0:10Speaker 1: you want to hype them up. Yeah. We have somebody
- 0:12Speaker 1: who wears many hats. Here we go, here we go. Yeah,
- 0:16Speaker 1: she looks good in whatever costume.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I assume that she puts on as a character. She
- 0:20Speaker 1: can do a good voiceover voice for any one that
- 0:24Speaker 1: you throw at her. She can sing, she can dance.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Can she cook? I'm not too sure. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 0:29Speaker 1: that's for sure. Say hello to Esther Fla.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Hello.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Hey man,
- 0:36Speaker 2: any character you throw at me, now I feel the pressure,
- 0:38Speaker 1: man.
- 0:39Speaker 2: No,
- 0:39Speaker 1: but
- 0:39Speaker 1: its.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Really? That's, that's kind of crazy. Not everybody, I
- 0:44Speaker 1: mean, quite well, at least the ones that you featured,
- 0:47Speaker 2: it's not easy.
- 0:47Speaker 1: It's not easy, you know, like to do that.
- 0:50Speaker 1: If there was a Singapore version of Inside Out, I'm
- 0:53Speaker 1: definitely casting you as Joy.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Thank you,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Joy.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah, shout out, man. Not too sure
- 0:58Speaker 1: about sadness though. I'll be sadness. No, I'll be anxiety.
- 1:04Speaker 1: That's naturally to you.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Anyway, we were just saying the last time that you
- 1:08Speaker 1: were here, it's been a few months already. Aside from
- 1:12Speaker 1: your hair, what has changed since
- 1:13Speaker 1: then?
- 1:14Speaker 2: I mean, actually, yeah, aside from my hair,
- 1:16Speaker 1: your hair, yeah, yeah,
- 1:17Speaker 2: um, I mean, of course, new music. I got a
- 1:20Speaker 2: new music video as well.
- 1:21Speaker 1: That's like cute.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Thank you. I've not done one in like a million
- 1:25Speaker 2: bajillion years as well, so that's great. Um, definitely a
- 1:29Speaker 2: new journey up ahead, new performances too that'll be cooking up,
- 1:32Speaker 2: really excited for that one.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah, um, but more info on that maybe on my
- 1:36Speaker 2: socials next time.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, when you can announce
- 1:37Speaker 1: it. Yes, yes. So I think it was last Friday
- 1:40Speaker 1: you dropped your brand new single Bury It, to which
- 1:42Speaker 1: I took a screenshot of the imagery and I posted it.
- 1:45Speaker 1: What fierce fierce. I mean, look at the makeup and
- 1:49Speaker 1: look for the music video. Can you walk us through
- 1:52Speaker 1: the entire conceptualization of the song Bury it?
- 1:55Speaker 1: Maybe the song first, then the music video.
- 1:57Speaker 2: The song first. OK, so for me, I've always been
- 1:59Speaker 2: very intrigued by the feeling of yearning for someone or
- 2:02Speaker 2: desiring for someone but not being able to have it. Yeah,
- 2:05Speaker 2: it's a bit like a forbidden fruit kind of thing, right?
- 2:08Speaker 2: And it's always moments like that where you kind of
- 2:10Speaker 2: remember for life, especially if it's like the what could
- 2:13Speaker 2: have been, right? And I wanted to explore the emotion
- 2:16Speaker 2: a lot more. So when I was working with the producer,
- 2:18Speaker 2: I told him that I want to have a sound
- 2:20Speaker 2: that sonically kind of encapsulates that feeling as well.
- 2:24Speaker 2: So, yeah, um, I wrote, I guess how I would
- 2:29Speaker 2: feel when it comes to moments like that because I
- 2:31Speaker 2: don't experience that a lot in my life. You don't I,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I was going to say that the feeling of what
- 2:37Speaker 1: could have been must have hit us at least once
- 2:39Speaker 1: in our lives. I know about that. Yeah, no, exactly.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I mean, I know friends who share that sometimes it's
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's not even a thing where like, um, you, you
- 2:48Speaker 1: could be in a relationship and then a person enters.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Your life that makes an impact on you and then
- 2:54Speaker 1: you have that, oh, what could have been? it could
- 2:57Speaker 1: be a fleeting feeling.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Yes,
- 2:59Speaker 2: and it feels so real, but two people like, but
- 3:01Speaker 2: the both of them never admit to it,
- 3:04Speaker 1: or it could maybe never happen. Like that movie Past Lives.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Do you remember Past Lives, Greta?
- 3:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you
- 3:12Speaker 1: should watch it. I think I made the biggest mistake
- 3:15Speaker 1: watching that movie.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I cried like mad. That is whatever you describe is
- 3:19Speaker 1: basically the theme of the whole movie. Yeah, you should
- 3:22Speaker 1: watch it.
- 3:22Speaker 2: That's cool. That's cool. OK, OK.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Was there
- 3:24Speaker 1: like boots that will be coming very soon as well,
- 3:29Speaker 1: others aside from
- 3:30Speaker 1: Bury?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Well, I wouldn't say it's a boot camp, but I
- 3:33Speaker 2: definitely had the opportunity to write with other people overseas,
- 3:36Speaker 2: which is really exciting. A lot of singers, songwriters that
- 3:39Speaker 2: I admire.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's been great. Uh, I can't share more
- 3:44Speaker 2: as specifically as to how many songs are coming out,
- 3:46Speaker 2: but there are definitely songs about the future,
- 3:49Speaker 1: let's go a bit more introspective. OK. I think it's
- 3:53Speaker 1: been a good 8 years since Estel's first single. I
- 3:58Speaker 1: think she doesn't even know how many years she's counting.
- 4:02Speaker 1: It was 2018 that you had your first single on 987. Really?
- 4:07Speaker 2: What song was that?
- 4:08Speaker 1: OK.
- 4:09Speaker 2: No, that's 2019.
- 4:11Speaker 1: 2019.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I was going to say Joakim never gets his years
- 4:16Speaker 1: and dates wrong. Like he has this weird talent where
- 4:19Speaker 1: he can just tell you, like if I tell him
- 4:21Speaker 1: a particular thing, he can pull out the year and
- 4:23Speaker 1: the month for you. The title was like this, right? 2019, 2018, same, same,
- 4:30Speaker 1: not that far apart. OK, OK, makes you feel better.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So 8 to 7 to 8 years later, how does
- 4:37Speaker 1: Esther evolved from that very first version that dropped Love
- 4:40Speaker 1: Like This on 987?
- 4:42Speaker 2: Oh, I mean in terms of writing, I can tell
- 4:45Speaker 2: it's changed a little bit like I now I know
- 4:48Speaker 2: like if certain things don't resonate with me in the first.
- 4:51Speaker 2: 1015 minutes, I learned that it's not something I want
- 4:53Speaker 2: to force because if it doesn't resonate with me already,
- 4:55Speaker 2: I don't expect people to listen to my song to
- 4:57Speaker 2: resonate with it as well, you know, it's one of
- 4:59Speaker 2: those things. So writing process wise, I've learned what works
- 5:02Speaker 2: for me and what doesn't work, but I think vocally
- 5:04Speaker 2: also I feel like I'm slowly starting to find a
- 5:06Speaker 2: sound that I like and I enjoy that I can
- 5:08Speaker 2: identify as my own. So,
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like with Love like this, I had
- 5:13Speaker 2: a lot of people guiding me and then right now
- 5:15Speaker 2: it feels very much more independent, independent and me being
- 5:19Speaker 2: a bit more sure in the creative decisions that I make. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I mean, that comes with a phase of life and
- 5:25Speaker 1: maturity and everything, right? But what, what made you choose
- 5:29Speaker 1: this song as like, OK, this is going to be
- 5:31Speaker 1: the leading track in this new almost like new phase
- 5:35Speaker 1: or new chapter of your life because I'm sure that
- 5:37Speaker 1: there's a lot of consideration.
- 5:38Speaker 1: you know, when you decide which single to put out
- 5:40Speaker 1: first since you have other things cooking right now.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yes, I mean, for Bury it, I think first of all,
- 5:47Speaker 2: it felt like, OK, before in my EP I had
- 5:49Speaker 2: a song called Messy, and then it was like an
- 5:51Speaker 2: EP where I was like trying different genres and stuff
- 5:54Speaker 2: like that. But then after everything came out, I just
- 5:57Speaker 2: could tell like, hey, you know, moving forward, I might
- 6:00Speaker 2: want to pursue a sound that's a lot more like
- 6:01Speaker 2: this because it's something I really enjoy, something that everyone
- 6:04Speaker 2: enjoys as well. So now when I'm coming out.
- 6:06Speaker 2: As my, as an indie artist and everything right in 2026,
- 6:10Speaker 2: I was like, hm I think I'm gonna go for
- 6:13Speaker 2: this song instead for Bury it and also with the
- 6:15Speaker 2: music video, it feels like, you know, I'm moving into
- 6:19Speaker 2: a new era of my own.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so I thought Bury it in terms of the
- 6:22Speaker 2: music video encapsulated it very well in terms of starting
- 6:25Speaker 2: anew for me.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yeah, OK. Well, you know, um, for our listeners who
- 6:29Speaker 1: may not have heard it just yet, we have it
- 6:31Speaker 1: on cue in just a while. We'll take a short break,
- 6:34Speaker 1: we'll have some conversations off-air but on TikTok Live. We're
- 6:37Speaker 1: still live on air and on TikTok Live with Estelle Fly.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yes, so I want to actually throw you back to
- 6:42Speaker 1: a post that she did on the 10th of July.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Turns out trusting herself is really a beautiful feeling. I'm
- 6:48Speaker 1: so excited for you guys to see my new journey
- 6:51Speaker 1: as an artist, and she has a brand new song
- 6:52Speaker 1: called Bury It. Yeah, we're gonna play in a while. Yes. Alright, Esther,
- 6:57Speaker 1: walk us through everything we should know about Bury It.
- 7:01Speaker 1: What is it about? And also, is it in relation
- 7:05Speaker 1: to anyone? No bury it like bury bury the past
- 7:08Speaker 1: version of yourself, a little bit. I wanna go like
- 7:11Speaker 1: in depth, in depth. Like when do you think to yourself, OK,
- 7:15Speaker 1: this is the song I'm gonna release as my very
- 7:17Speaker 1: first single of a new journey. Who are your test audience,
- 7:20Speaker 1: your test bed?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Well, um, in terms of, OK, I mean, obviously my
- 7:24Speaker 2: team was my first test audience because I needed to
- 7:26Speaker 2: make sure that everybody, um, felt the same way that
- 7:29Speaker 2: I feel. It wasn't just me, um, I guess.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Right, so like this new generation, uh era that I'm
- 7:37Speaker 2: going into, I want to delve a little bit more
- 7:39Speaker 2: into the idea of desire and not being afraid to
- 7:43Speaker 2: desire for things or be desired by someone or something, yeah.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So when I went into this era, I wanted to
- 7:50Speaker 2: have that freedom to just explore every side of it,
- 7:53Speaker 2: whether it's good, bad, so when it came to bury it,
- 7:56Speaker 2: obviously it was like the most obvious thing, yeah, which
- 7:58Speaker 2: is like that feeling and then when it came to
- 8:00Speaker 2: making the music video, I, I actually took the chance
- 8:04Speaker 2: to work with people I've always wanted to work with
- 8:05Speaker 2: in terms of production.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And actually if you watch the music video, there are
- 8:09Speaker 2: also artists inside like Jean Seizure was cameo inside yeah
- 8:13Speaker 2: yeah yeah yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 1: So you guys have this great friendship for so long
- 8:15Speaker 1: as well.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it was like the opportunity for me to
- 8:18Speaker 2: finally work together with everybody I've always wanted to work
- 8:21Speaker 2: with and I'm respected in the industry as well. So
- 8:24Speaker 2: in that sense, it was like a huge opportunity to
- 8:26Speaker 2: do whatever I wanted with the freedom that I had.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And I think with that kind of freedom, um, it
- 8:32Speaker 2: gives you the chance to express and to bring a
- 8:35Speaker 2: certain part of yourself that you don't usually do when you're,
- 8:37Speaker 2: you know, when there are structures put into place. So
- 8:51Speaker 2: the thing about, I actually had an idea for it
- 8:52Speaker 2: visually
- 8:52Speaker 2: Because of the producer that I worked with, it was
- 8:55Speaker 2: like very much of a collaboration as well. She actually
- 8:58Speaker 2: counter proposed to me this concept and then I was like, Yo,
- 9:01Speaker 2: this is actually really clever. Like for me, I thought like, oh,
- 9:05Speaker 2: the idea of having two co-stars, they're always put together
- 9:07Speaker 2: in love movies as a couple, but in real life,
- 9:10Speaker 2: they're just friends. And then because of this notion where
- 9:13Speaker 2: people always assume that there's chemistry between them.
- 9:16Speaker 2: They slowly start to believe what people put onto them.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Like they, they think like, hey, maybe there is something
- 9:21Speaker 2: between us that we're not entirely exploring exploring or admitting to.
- 9:26Speaker 2: So like we kind of, I can't, I can't, you
- 9:28Speaker 2: guys need to go watch the music video. I don't
- 9:30Speaker 2: want yeah yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, so they pitched that idea and I, I really
- 9:34Speaker 2: loved it. I was like, you know what, there's a
- 9:36Speaker 2: reason why I respected you guys in the industry in
- 9:37Speaker 2: the first place. So, let's just do this. I think
- 9:40Speaker 2: I love it. Let's let's make it work.
- 9:41Speaker 1: OK, so aside from what you've already told us about
- 9:44Speaker 1: the music video, just a fun question for you here.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Is there an era or a look that you've explored
- 9:51Speaker 1: and done before? I mean, I regret a lot of
- 9:53Speaker 1: looks that I've explored in the past. What? Really? You know,
- 9:57Speaker 1: like hair, makeup choices, dressing. Is there a particular phase
- 10:00Speaker 1: of life where you dressed or styled yourself in a
- 10:03Speaker 1: way that you want to bury like forever? Because I
- 10:07Speaker 1: look back like when we did the 2016 trend and
- 10:10Speaker 1: I look back at all my 2016 photos, I'm like,
- 10:13Speaker 1: I did not. Why did I not question myself? I
- 10:16Speaker 1: walk out of the house like this. Why? Back then
- 10:18Speaker 1: you thought it was cool. Yeah, but the eve, you go,
- 10:22Speaker 1: but it was not, not, not all the looks. I
- 10:25Speaker 1: look back, I'm like, OK, I want to bury it. No,
- 10:26Speaker 1: not all, not all. Some I was like, oh man,
- 10:28Speaker 1: this one has to go.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Do you, are you able to identify
- 10:33Speaker 2: off
- 10:33Speaker 2: the top of my head, which do I pick? There's
- 10:35Speaker 2: so many. OK, no, no, no, but I will say
- 10:37Speaker 2: there's one thing that always sticks out that annoys me
- 10:40Speaker 2: so much is the fact there was this point where
- 10:42Speaker 2: everybody drew their eyebrows really extra thick and defined. It
- 10:46Speaker 2: was like a, I think it was like a Kim
- 10:48Speaker 2: K thing. That was a thing, but this was about 2015, 2016. Yeah, same.
- 10:53Speaker 2: So looking back when I have photos that just resurfaced,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I'm just like, oh my goodness.
- 10:56Speaker 2: All you see your brows. Yeah, and I cannot remove them.
- 10:59Speaker 2: They're just gonna be online forever because it's photos taken
- 11:01Speaker 2: with other people. Yeah, and I was just like, man,
- 11:05Speaker 2: it feels like a seagull, you know, when you draw
- 11:06Speaker 2: seagulls angry birds, angry birds, yeah, on your face, your face.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Something I can like everything else can be awesome like
- 11:14Speaker 2: your eye makeup is great, but the eyebrows,
- 11:15Speaker 1: oh my God, that's all you
- 11:16Speaker 1: see. So I think it's safe to say we all
- 11:18Speaker 1: want to bury that era. Oh,
- 11:19Speaker 2: that's for sure.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Sorry, he's born with like luscious brows.
- 11:25Speaker 1: You already have the angry. Kylie Kylie Goh. Yes, OK,
- 11:30Speaker 1: actually it's Kim K. Yeah, it's
- 11:32Speaker 1: Kylie.
- 11:34Speaker 1: gang. OK, before we hit play on it and um
- 11:38Speaker 1: thank you for being here with us. Anything that you
- 11:40Speaker 1: can share with us, maybe any
- 11:41Speaker 1: Performances. If you can't, it's OK.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I do have one coming up. Oh, I actually got
- 11:48Speaker 2: the gold sign to promote this yesterday. Let's do it.
- 11:51Speaker 2: So I'm performing at an indoor stadium for S24 on
- 11:54Speaker 2: the 29th of August. I'll be performing another new song
- 11:57Speaker 2: as well. It's like a special remix. It's gonna be tons.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I'm going to be working with dancers that I respect
- 12:02Speaker 2: a lot.
- 12:05Speaker 1: The competition, right, a competition, I hosted those before. So cool.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Are you gonna customize your performance to the rules of
- 12:10Speaker 1: S24 and keep everyone in that square, or is it
- 12:13Speaker 1: for you?
- 12:14Speaker 2: They, they did give me the free stage. I think
- 12:17Speaker 2: it would be a bit mean for me to tell
- 12:19Speaker 2: the dancers like to keep to the line. The reason
- 12:21Speaker 2: why they, they said yes is because they can just
- 12:23Speaker 2: go forego the rules, you know.
- 12:26Speaker 2: So yeah, we're probably gonna just like have fun on stage,
- 12:30Speaker 2: but it's gonna be, it's one I'm looking forward to it. Yeah,
- 12:33Speaker 2: that'll be really dynamic. Yeah, super, something I've never done
- 12:37Speaker 2: before and I am super proud of it. I really
- 12:40Speaker 2: flex to this extent, but if you are, you guys
- 12:42Speaker 2: are free, please come down and
- 12:43Speaker 1: watch. 100%. You know what, girl, we're so happy, you know,
- 12:45Speaker 1: you've got this light from within you. You're like excited.
- 12:48Speaker 1: You've got a lot of joy. Um, anytime, please hit
- 12:51Speaker 1: us up, whatever you need
- 12:53Speaker 2: right here. OK, OK.
