- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering the live action Netflicks one Piece series, Season two,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Episode eight, Deer and Loathing in Drum Kingdom. In this episode,
- 0:28Speaker 1: we finally can walk away from Woppole and never hopefully
- 0:35Speaker 1: hear his stupid voice or see his stupid face again.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I really hope, I really hope that's true. Everybody comes
- 0:48Speaker 1: back in this show, and I really just hope it's true.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the show everyone. I
- 1:13Speaker 1: am Natasha. Thank you to Florian and Bernadette for commissioning
- 1:18Speaker 1: this episode. So it's the final episode of season two. Honestly,
- 1:27Speaker 1: I really wish that we had gotten a little further
- 1:31Speaker 1: beyond our Drum Kingdom storyline by the end of the season.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Just because this is pure personal preference, This is not
- 1:40Speaker 1: like a genuine criticism of the storytelling, just because I
- 1:46Speaker 1: don't like the Drum Kingdom storyline very much and I
- 1:50Speaker 1: want to wash the taste of it out of my
- 1:52Speaker 1: mouth before the season ends, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:56Speaker 1: So it's just really me wanting to kick the dust
- 2:00Speaker 1: of Woppole off my heels and just be really done
- 2:04Speaker 1: with him. And not you know, we are done with
- 2:08Speaker 1: him by the end of this, but it is not
- 2:11Speaker 1: far enough in the rear view mirror for my taste,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and so I am looking forward to as much as I,
- 2:17Speaker 1: like you know, had my issues with the Alabasta storyline
- 2:22Speaker 1: in the anime. Most of my issues were not the
- 2:27Speaker 1: actual plot beats. They were that the way the story
- 2:31Speaker 1: was told. And it is definitely the kind of arc
- 2:34Speaker 1: that I can see being tightened up to be really
- 2:37Speaker 1: good and very compelling versus what goes on with Chopper.
- 2:43Speaker 1: There's really there's only so much that you can do
- 2:45Speaker 1: in changing it up to make it less upsetting and
- 2:49Speaker 1: still stay true to the source material. And I think
- 2:52Speaker 1: they did their best, but there was just really not
- 2:56Speaker 1: a lot of options with Alabasta. I think all the
- 2:58Speaker 1: pieces were there, and it just didn't really work for
- 3:02Speaker 1: me as I watched. So I'm feeling pretty good about
- 3:06Speaker 1: that being our next major arc because I'm like this
- 3:10Speaker 1: is it was frustrating as I watched it to know
- 3:13Speaker 1: that the pieces were there and to feel so strongly
- 3:16Speaker 1: like there is a kernel of something great in this
- 3:19Speaker 1: and to not really feel like it was exploited is
- 3:24Speaker 1: the wrong word, but I guess, you know, like to
- 3:26Speaker 1: the to its full advantage. So yeah, that I think
- 3:32Speaker 1: is an arc that is going to benefit a lot
- 3:36Speaker 1: from going in shortening rewriting sections, having Vivb a character
- 3:42Speaker 1: with more agency and personality. So I'm I am really
- 3:47Speaker 1: really looking forward to next season and excited that it's
- 3:51Speaker 1: going to be next year that there won't be as
- 3:53Speaker 1: long a wait. So I'm trying to decide where I
- 3:59Speaker 1: want to start here because I feel like I just
- 4:02Speaker 1: have to start with Woppole and just sort of get
- 4:04Speaker 1: him out of the way because I just he's he's
- 4:09Speaker 1: sort of the heart of the matter. And I swear
- 4:12Speaker 1: to God y'all. You know, I said last episode that
- 4:16Speaker 1: there's a sense of Woppole reminding me of Trump, and
- 4:21Speaker 1: the more tweets this fucking man makes, the more he
- 4:25Speaker 1: just sounds like Wohpole having a fucking meltdown at that summit.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It's not it's barely an exaggeration like Wohpole. The way
- 4:37Speaker 1: that he talks is in all caps. It's lots of
- 4:40Speaker 1: exclamation points. You can practically like see the emojis. It's
- 4:47Speaker 1: a lot, and bro is like really with the audacity,
- 4:53Speaker 1: like I'm gonna come back and be king again over
- 4:56Speaker 1: whom over what? It's just a what does being king mean?
- 5:03Speaker 2: When you are.
- 5:07Speaker 1: When what you preside over has no value left and
- 5:10Speaker 1: has destroyed? You know, But that's not of concern to him,
- 5:15Speaker 1: because for him, it's purely the title.
- 5:19Speaker 2: The power that.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Comes with it, which he is too shortsighted to recognize,
- 5:24Speaker 1: is a temporary thing if you don't cultivate real loyalty
- 5:30Speaker 1: beyond the weird sycophants that he's got going on right now.
- 5:36Speaker 1: That's the thing that is so interesting about the type
- 5:40Speaker 1: of bully that comes into power like this is anybody
- 5:46Speaker 1: on the outside can see it's just a matter of
- 5:49Speaker 1: time before somebody gets sick of their shit, but they
- 5:53Speaker 1: don't seem to see it. And they really believe that
- 5:56Speaker 1: if they keep pushing everybody around, everyone will just be
- 6:00Speaker 1: too afraid of them to ever go against them, when
- 6:03Speaker 1: it's the fear that makes people turn away from you
- 6:07Speaker 1: and look for another way to live. You know. I'm
- 6:11Speaker 1: just waiting in our world regarding Trump, for it to happen,
- 6:17Speaker 1: for it to happen, it being whatever, you know, whatever happen,
- 6:24Speaker 1: whatever it is, could happen in any way, and I'd.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Be fine with it.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I'm just saying, however, it were to come to be
- 6:37Speaker 1: to pass, I.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Mean just.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I can't.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I would, though I would, and if it were to happen,
- 6:53Speaker 1: I feel that would be for the best. So we'll
- 6:59Speaker 1: go back to what we get to see, his munch
- 7:02Speaker 1: munch fruit ability, y'all. I had forgotten how this ability works,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and if I had remembered, I think I would have
- 7:18Speaker 1: been a lot more curious. How are they going to
- 7:20Speaker 1: pull this off in live action? Because it is a
- 7:23Speaker 1: really weird thing, y'all, And they do their best, and
- 7:29Speaker 1: I think they manage it. I actually think it works
- 7:34Speaker 1: in the end, but it does require some weird editing.
- 7:40Speaker 1: It's it's a weird ability, you know. And now knowing
- 7:48Speaker 1: that he's dead hopefully, which I think he's actually dead,
- 7:54Speaker 1: only because the soldiers they're like modified bodies, are no
- 8:03Speaker 1: longer functioning and beginning to fall apart, So I feel
- 8:06Speaker 1: that's a real like signal that this guy's genuinely dead.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And if he's dead, that means that the devil fruit
- 8:20Speaker 1: of this power respawns.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Is that right? That's how it.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Works, right, It's like if the devil fruit eater dies,
- 8:30Speaker 1: then there's just a new fruit with that same power
- 8:32Speaker 1: that suddenly appears. Right, Sarah him is saying, correct, Okay,
- 8:37Speaker 1: So I'm just thinking about, like I'm just thinking about
- 8:46Speaker 1: if we were to stumble across it, like, who of
- 8:51Speaker 1: our friends in the straw hats would benefit most from
- 8:56Speaker 1: eating a fruit like that. I tend towards Frankie because
- 9:05Speaker 1: he is our engineer. The problem is that I don't
- 9:11Speaker 1: feel he needs it because he's so good already.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Does it help? It's like he can kind of do
- 9:20Speaker 2: this already, but better, you know. I don't know.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I'm trying to think like Oosop wouldn't be off either,
- 9:31Speaker 1: because he's got you know, he's like accessories guy, because
- 9:34Speaker 1: he doesn't have an inherent power and so he makes
- 9:37Speaker 1: a lot of weapons that are are gadget like, and
- 9:41Speaker 1: so perhaps something like this would be kind of perfect.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm just sort of thinking about the potential for a
- 9:52Speaker 1: lot of the villains that we handle, maybe that are
- 9:57Speaker 1: like actually killed eventually, that their powers wind up being
- 10:01Speaker 1: up for grabs later somehow. You know, what's the name
- 10:05Speaker 1: of the guy that uh sucks so bad that they
- 10:08Speaker 1: just had Mehawk kill him? In like two seconds as
- 10:12Speaker 1: a side thing on camera.
- 10:14Speaker 2: His ability was like that he could just make guns
- 10:17Speaker 2: come out of everywhere?
- 10:18Speaker 1: Is that right, don Kreek? Yes, so he was just
- 10:24Speaker 1: like gun guy. That's just not a power that's.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Fun to watch, to be honest.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Uh ooh. Florian said he had no devil fruit. Saraphim says,
- 10:37Speaker 1: no fruit, just a lot of ticks. I think it's
- 10:40Speaker 1: a lot of tricks.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Was that supposed to be? That is crazy? I thought
- 10:44Speaker 2: he had a double fruit? Wow?
- 10:46Speaker 1: All right, So damn well, I can't think of another
- 10:55Speaker 1: devil fruit eater who actually dies, like off the top
- 10:59Speaker 1: of my head. At the start of this show, our
- 11:03Speaker 1: along was a fish man, and you know, we eventually
- 11:06Speaker 1: find out that he's not dead.
- 11:07Speaker 2: So, and.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I don't know, Seraphim says, in an early draft, Oda
- 11:14Speaker 1: considered making him a cyborg. Yeah, I mean could have done.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I don't know that it would have made him that
- 11:19Speaker 1: much more interesting. That's the problem with him is just
- 11:22Speaker 1: that he's not like compelling, you know. Oh my god,
- 11:26Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. Florian just said, Hell, we wish as
- 11:30Speaker 1: having died.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that power would be.
- 11:35Speaker 1: We have on the straw hats Loofy and Chopper having
- 11:40Speaker 1: already eaten double fruits. Zoro, Nami, Oosop, Frankie have not,
- 11:47Speaker 1: Brooke has. So we've got we've got a good number
- 11:51Speaker 1: of people that are still potential, you know. I I'm
- 11:58Speaker 1: really torn on whether I would like for our entire
- 12:04Speaker 1: crew to have devil fruit powers eventually, to like get
- 12:08Speaker 1: to a place where everybody is just juiced up to
- 12:10Speaker 1: the gills, or if I like the dynamic of some
- 12:14Speaker 1: of them not and just being really good at what
- 12:16Speaker 1: they do. I kind of think I like the dynamic
- 12:21Speaker 1: of some not, but it's almost like there's gonna have
- 12:26Speaker 1: to be a point where that won't be enough, right,
- 12:29Speaker 1: But we need some people who can fucking swim on
- 12:32Speaker 1: the team.
- 12:34Speaker 2: So I don't know. Yeah, I don't know.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna think about it. But so anyway,
- 12:41Speaker 1: we have uh Dalton, I almost called him Darren. We
- 12:48Speaker 1: have Dalton being cast down in front of Wahpole having
- 12:54Speaker 1: been captured, and I, yeah, I had totally forgotten that
- 12:58Speaker 1: Dalton ate devil fruit himself. So he had the bison
- 13:03Speaker 1: bison fruit I think it translated, obviously, And so it's
- 13:08Speaker 1: an odd moment because the way that Walpole is talking
- 13:14Speaker 1: to him and says like, if you want a monster,
- 13:17Speaker 1: I'll show you a monster, And Dalton transforms in such
- 13:23Speaker 1: a way that for a second, because I'd forgotten that
- 13:26Speaker 1: he ate a devil fruit, I was sort of going, wait,
- 13:29Speaker 1: hold up, is he making him transform? You know? There
- 13:33Speaker 1: was like almost something about the timing of it that
- 13:37Speaker 1: felt like it was being triggered by Wopole saying those words,
- 13:43Speaker 1: And I definitely had a second of like, oh, no,
- 13:46Speaker 1: it's just that he can see it coming, like that
- 13:49Speaker 1: this guy is mad and that he's about to you know.
- 13:52Speaker 1: But I definitely had a moment of going, hold on,
- 13:56Speaker 1: what other power does Walpole have? You know? So uh ooh,
- 14:04Speaker 1: Saraphim has a list here. ODIs said what fruit the
- 14:07Speaker 1: other straw hats would have if they got one? Nami
- 14:10Speaker 1: and Narrow's lightning fruit. Oh yeah, that makes sense us
- 14:13Speaker 1: up pocket pocket fruit for infinite hammer space.
- 14:18Speaker 2: God, that does sound so convenient.
- 14:19Speaker 1: He'd be like a little Mary Poppins zoro a fruit
- 14:22Speaker 1: you haven't seen, okay, noted, and Saraphim forgot what Frankie's
- 14:27Speaker 1: would be. Okay, that's fun though. So this whole like
- 14:36Speaker 1: confrontation ends with Dalton getting stabbed in the chest shoulder
- 14:44Speaker 1: sort of area by this pike that it's a big
- 14:49Speaker 1: demonstration that Walpole does where he takes a bite of
- 14:55Speaker 1: this weapon and then manages to it's a pike that
- 14:58Speaker 1: he bites, and then he uses that to transform his
- 15:02Speaker 1: own fist into like a sword, and you know, is
- 15:08Speaker 1: explaining how this all works. And then when Wapol is
- 15:13Speaker 1: noticing that his army isn't around, he's like, oh, you
- 15:17Speaker 1: thought my army just left? No, no, no, they're just digesting.
- 15:22Speaker 1: And then he opens his mouth and you see his
- 15:25Speaker 1: mouth grow to a size that's like a doorway. And
- 15:28Speaker 1: then later we get the update about what all is
- 15:32Speaker 1: going on down at the village, and it's Oosop and
- 15:40Speaker 1: Zoro that see these guys coming up over the hill
- 15:45Speaker 1: and us up is just like, oh shit. And I
- 15:50Speaker 1: gotta say, I really do enjoy are our character is
- 15:56Speaker 1: getting to swear a little bit. I don't think anyone
- 15:58Speaker 1: has said fuck have they?
- 16:01Speaker 2: In this season?
- 16:04Speaker 1: No Buggy has said fuck, right, he said it a lot.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I think our guys don't say it too much. But anyway,
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm just trying to think because like, you know, how
- 16:16Speaker 1: there's weird standards within certain rating systems where you can
- 16:20Speaker 1: get like one fuck per season and you have to
- 16:23Speaker 1: be real careful where you put it. And that was
- 16:26Speaker 1: a lot more of how it would be for like
- 16:28Speaker 1: TV when it was actually broadcasting, and I don't think
- 16:32Speaker 1: that's really how it works anymore, but uh, I do
- 16:35Speaker 1: find it kind of a fun like challenge mentally, Nohoah says,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I think bug Buggy said a bunch of shits. There
- 16:44Speaker 1: may still only be one fuck this season. Okay, So
- 16:55Speaker 1: I'm I'm struggling with exactly how to talk about the
- 16:58Speaker 1: battle itself, because this is what I run into anytime
- 17:01Speaker 1: you've got an action sequence where I can just like
- 17:05Speaker 1: recount exactly how the fight goes. But I don't feel
- 17:08Speaker 1: like that's particularly interesting to listen to. I will say
- 17:13Speaker 1: that I found the fight choreography because like, eventually woppoles
- 17:19Speaker 1: to goons show up at the castle, and then woppole
- 17:25Speaker 1: him hurl himself shows up, and we have Soanji and
- 17:30Speaker 1: Chopper fighting the goons while Nami hides still hooked up
- 17:35Speaker 1: to an IV and the way this like scene begins
- 17:40Speaker 1: is just peaceful and Chopper beginning to like disconnect Nami
- 17:45Speaker 1: from the Ivy and Sanji beginning to get a little
- 17:49Speaker 1: obstruperous about it, and the reason for that.
- 17:53Speaker 2: It's so funny.
- 17:54Speaker 1: I said last episode about like, is this reminding him
- 17:57Speaker 1: of his mom? And I never thought that they were
- 17:58Speaker 1: actually going to like a dress that. But this episode
- 18:02Speaker 1: he tells the story of his mother being sick, but
- 18:04Speaker 1: he doesn't get very specific. He never mentions his father,
- 18:07Speaker 1: he never mentions his siblings, he never mentions what the
- 18:10Speaker 1: illness was with his mother. He just mentions that she
- 18:14Speaker 1: was like ill for a long time. She's the one
- 18:17Speaker 1: who inspired me to learn how to cook and was
- 18:21Speaker 1: encouraging despite how fucking god awful everything I made for
- 18:24Speaker 1: her was. And it's just a really touching scene. And
- 18:31Speaker 1: I love the fact that like, as he is finishing it,
- 18:35Speaker 1: Nami says something like Sanji, as if she's about to say, like,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, I'm not in that kind of danger that
- 18:42Speaker 1: you don't have to worry about me like that, right,
- 18:45Speaker 1: And you can see him like opening his mouth to protest,
- 18:48Speaker 1: as if he's about to go, no, I know it's
- 18:49Speaker 1: not the same thing with you, but it's obvious that
- 18:54Speaker 1: is where his fear is coming from. You can know
- 18:57Speaker 1: rationally that it's not the same situation, but it will
- 19:00Speaker 1: still be triggering the same.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Emotional response in you.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And it's very annoying. It's very annoying to realize how
- 19:06Speaker 1: little control we have over how we're feeling in a moment.
- 19:09Speaker 1: You can exert some control after the feeling comes through,
- 19:13Speaker 1: and you pay attention to it and understand it and
- 19:17Speaker 1: begin to talk yourself down. But a lot of us
- 19:21Speaker 1: just react to the feeling rather than like interrogating it,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and then just freeze up and get stuck in that
- 19:29Speaker 1: one place. So anyway, these fucking goons, the fight with
- 19:38Speaker 1: the two of them, and Soanjy and Chopper is uh
- 19:43Speaker 1: ooh sorry, Saraphim says on the last point, he didn't
- 19:46Speaker 1: know what made her sick till his sister told him
- 19:48Speaker 1: during hole cake. That's right, I forgot. He wasn't even
- 19:50Speaker 1: aware of it. I have to say, I wasn't that
- 19:56Speaker 1: big a fan of this fight.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I don't know what it was.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I think maybe too much wire work. There was just
- 20:02Speaker 1: something very like weightless about certain parts of it, especially Chopper.
- 20:09Speaker 2: It was odd.
- 20:10Speaker 1: There was like a heaviness to Chopper in certain spots
- 20:13Speaker 1: that I felt there shouldn't have been. And then there
- 20:14Speaker 1: was a weightlessness in areas that I felt needed heaviness,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and I I don't know exactly what was going on there,
- 20:24Speaker 1: but it was almost like the person inside of the
- 20:27Speaker 1: suit was like, there's a point where Chopper seems to
- 20:31Speaker 1: sort of almost do like a summersaul and like land
- 20:35Speaker 1: and I'm expecting kind of like the superhero landing, you
- 20:38Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about, with like one fist down
- 20:40Speaker 1: or whatever, and I don't like, it's makes sense that
- 20:45Speaker 1: it's not that graceful because Chopper isn't super experienced as
- 20:49Speaker 1: a fighter, so it wouldn't be in character, but it
- 20:54Speaker 1: doesn't look necessarily on purpose the way that he lands
- 20:58Speaker 1: at the start of everything, and there was just sort
- 21:02Speaker 1: of like an awkwardness to it that I didn't feel
- 21:04Speaker 1: was really intentional. And then later on as he is
- 21:08Speaker 1: like coming at that weird gesture guy, there's a weird
- 21:14Speaker 1: quality to the punches and the way they're dodging and
- 21:17Speaker 1: stuff that felt it just felt kind of bizarre and unnatural,
- 21:22Speaker 1: like both of them were being puppeted and they weren't
- 21:27Speaker 1: actually there.
- 21:28Speaker 2: You know. I don't know if that's.
- 21:30Speaker 1: A result of like maybe they did some CG effects
- 21:33Speaker 1: in post because of the makeup and stuff that Chopper
- 21:35Speaker 1: is wearing or I don't know, but I want. I
- 21:41Speaker 1: liked the scene due to the fact that it's Chopper
- 21:44Speaker 1: and Sanji learning to work together and they get criticized
- 21:48Speaker 1: by the guy who uses his afro as a weapon.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I'd forgotten about this, the like static charge from his hair.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So we have like this little tiny mini arc within
- 21:59Speaker 1: this fight of the two of them like starting off
- 22:02Speaker 1: arguing and then fighting and sort of getting in each
- 22:06Speaker 1: other's way and yelling at one another, until finally they
- 22:09Speaker 1: begin to work together and are able to take these
- 22:13Speaker 1: two guys down. But yeah, I just this show has
- 22:19Speaker 1: been consistently so great with choreography that I was surprised
- 22:23Speaker 1: that this didn't work for me too much. And also
- 22:28Speaker 1: I am just.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Really not a.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Fan of the big Chopper Like it's just very off
- 22:36Speaker 1: putting to look at.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I really don't like it.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Especially in combination with the Chopper voice. It's the same
- 22:43Speaker 1: exact voice, and there is something that makes.
- 22:48Speaker 2: It all the more uncanny.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I just it's not for me. Little Chopper ten out
- 22:55Speaker 1: of ten love it, but once it gets big, I'm
- 22:59Speaker 1: just sort of like, Ooh, I don't know about that.
- 23:04Speaker 1: So Florian said, this fight is filmed in a really
- 23:08Speaker 1: tight room, by the looks of it, and I think
- 23:10Speaker 1: it suffered from it might like I don't know, I
- 23:14Speaker 1: really don't know enough about how this stuff works to
- 23:16Speaker 1: be able to say, like I've seen fights in tight
- 23:19Speaker 1: rooms that the tightness of the room is what made
- 23:21Speaker 1: the scene tense, and you can take things like that
- 23:25Speaker 1: that and make it work for you and have it
- 23:27Speaker 1: be an element of what the obstacle is our characters
- 23:31Speaker 1: trying to overcome. But that wasn't utilized that way for me.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It really was mostly it seemed like the choreography itself
- 23:42Speaker 1: and the wire work being very obvious and a little
- 23:47Speaker 1: there are almost moments where it feels like they're moving
- 23:49Speaker 1: too slowly, and so that was what made it look obvious,
- 23:53Speaker 1: Like there's a spin and he's just spinning in mid
- 23:58Speaker 1: air like doing a summer in mid air the way
- 24:00Speaker 1: that Sonji does, but it goes slowly enough that you're
- 24:04Speaker 1: kind of like, that's just not how a human body.
- 24:08Speaker 1: We know people can't do the moves that Sonji does,
- 24:12Speaker 1: but if they could, they would have to build up
- 24:14Speaker 1: a certain amount of momentum, and they would have to
- 24:16Speaker 1: move at a certain speed, and the way that he's
- 24:19Speaker 1: depicted at a couple of moments, I'm like, that is
- 24:21Speaker 1: just not how our body would move. If we were
- 24:23Speaker 1: able to do this, there would have to be a
- 24:26Speaker 1: speedier spin in the air, you know.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So you know it's fine.
- 24:32Speaker 1: It was just not my favorite, and I think I
- 24:37Speaker 1: just feel a little bit extra disappointment because I have
- 24:41Speaker 1: wanted more Chopper, and I felt like a lot of
- 24:44Speaker 1: the Chopper that I got, I was just like, he's
- 24:49Speaker 1: so sad so much at the.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Time, or getting beat up or whatever.
- 24:53Speaker 1: And I was just like, I just want to have
- 24:55Speaker 1: a whole episode of Chopper having fun and not crying
- 24:59Speaker 1: or being beaten or shot at or whatever. That's all
- 25:03Speaker 1: I want, you know, And it's coming. I know it
- 25:05Speaker 1: eventually we'll get one of those, but uh, or not
- 25:08Speaker 1: a whole episode, but you know, one can hope.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 25:13Speaker 1: So jumping down to the village itself, the attack here,
- 25:20Speaker 1: it's a really bizarre fight scene. And that's another reason
- 25:24Speaker 1: that I'm having a hard time deciding how I want
- 25:27Speaker 1: to talk about it, because all of these soldiers are
- 25:30Speaker 1: these weird amalgamations of humans and machinery and even like animals,
- 25:36Speaker 1: Like there's a guy who's got a pig face and
- 25:39Speaker 1: I am just looking at him, going did you look
- 25:42Speaker 1: like this before? Or did Wopple make you into a pig?
- 25:47Speaker 1: Which feels really like shade, Like did Woppole did he
- 25:54Speaker 1: reinterpret every soldier in their appear according to what he
- 26:02Speaker 1: thinks about them as a person. And so there's just
- 26:07Speaker 1: a weird combo of like bizarre body part weapon, like
- 26:14Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying that at first glance, you're
- 26:18Speaker 1: not even really sure whether it's like a stabbing blade
- 26:22Speaker 1: or is this gonna turn into something else? And there's
- 26:28Speaker 1: a moment of Zoro stabbing this guy and he slumps
- 26:31Speaker 1: on Zoro's blade, and this is right at the start,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and it cuts from that moment of him slumping and
- 26:39Speaker 1: me going, wow, that was easier than I expected to
- 26:42Speaker 1: oosop than firing his uh something like guaranteed death Star
- 26:48Speaker 1: or something like that. And this also seems to really
- 26:52Speaker 1: get the guy he's shooting at. And then when we
- 26:55Speaker 1: cut back to Zorro, the guy he stabbed who slumped
- 26:58Speaker 1: is standing back up again, and the guy who was
- 27:00Speaker 1: hit with us up star is fine, and they're both realizing, oh,
- 27:08Speaker 1: this is a much different type of enemy than we
- 27:13Speaker 1: have encountered before, and it is going to need a
- 27:15Speaker 1: big extra juice for us to overcome this. Noha says,
- 27:22Speaker 1: I wasn't that big a fan of that scene either,
- 27:24Speaker 1: and Sara Frum says, yeah, yeah, not the best fight,
- 27:26Speaker 1: but fun. So I appreciate that I'm not the only
- 27:30Speaker 1: one who thought that It's not a big deal. Like, honestly,
- 27:33Speaker 1: the show's fight choreography is so excellent, so much of
- 27:37Speaker 1: the time they have earned enough goodwill for me to
- 27:40Speaker 1: forgive a fight scene that isn't totally hitting.
- 27:43Speaker 2: It's fine, you know.
- 27:47Speaker 1: So the fight like with in the Like, they send
- 27:52Speaker 1: a bunch of the villagers away and there is a
- 27:55Speaker 1: moment of Oop watching them retreat and going, maybe I
- 27:59Speaker 1: should to go with them, you know, in case they
- 28:02Speaker 1: needed my protection, And Zorro says, as if they like
- 28:09Speaker 1: it's something about us up being the hero of Little Garden.
- 28:15Speaker 1: But it's not like he accuses him of being afraid.
- 28:18Speaker 1: He just says something like as if this army could
- 28:20Speaker 1: ever be a.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Match for or something like that.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Uh, just pure encouragement in a really sweet moment that
- 28:29Speaker 1: I liked, and you see like us Up kind of
- 28:33Speaker 1: smirking a little bit in response, like ah shucks, And
- 28:37Speaker 1: I love it because it's like what Usup did on
- 28:40Speaker 1: Little Garden was legit. This wasn't like an an accidental
- 28:46Speaker 1: series of I mean some of it was accidental, I
- 28:49Speaker 1: guess hitting what's her face and with her own paints, sure,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but like it's it was still a lot of his
- 29:00Speaker 1: choice is in action that he took, and so it
- 29:04Speaker 1: is a real valid like you can do it because
- 29:08Speaker 1: we know you've done it before, whereas I have seen
- 29:11Speaker 1: stories where people are like, hey, you can do it
- 29:13Speaker 1: because you did such and such. When we as viewers
- 29:16Speaker 1: know that thing that you're referencing that they managed to
- 29:19Speaker 1: pull off that one time, Actually they didn't.
- 29:22Speaker 2: They didn't pull that off.
- 29:23Speaker 1: It was a if not an accident, it was at
- 29:28Speaker 1: least like circumstantial or sometimes it's like a complete misunderstanding.
- 29:34Speaker 1: And while I understand story wise how much fun it
- 29:39Speaker 1: is to know that and then see them like still
- 29:42Speaker 1: manage to pull it together and succeed, it doesn't really
- 29:46Speaker 1: feel as legitimate because they are getting encouraged off somebody
- 29:50Speaker 1: giving them a pep talk on something that isn't real,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and here it's something that we know usup like had
- 29:57Speaker 1: to talk to somebody about fear and how to overcome
- 30:01Speaker 1: it and psych himself up and really do something to
- 30:04Speaker 1: get past it. And just referencing like you've done it before.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Even if Zora doesn't even know the extent of it,
- 30:12Speaker 1: doesn't matter usop knows the extent of it, and so
- 30:15Speaker 1: you can kind of call on that feeling, which is
- 30:18Speaker 1: like a technique used in psychology a lot of the
- 30:22Speaker 1: time is if you're about to do something that is
- 30:25Speaker 1: a little intimidating or overwhelming and you have done something
- 30:29Speaker 1: like this before, call up the feeling. Stop and think
- 30:32Speaker 1: about when have I done this in the past successfully
- 30:37Speaker 1: and what did that look like? What tools did I use,
- 30:40Speaker 1: what mindset did I have, how did I approach it?
- 30:43Speaker 1: And if you do that, it can help sort of
- 30:47Speaker 1: just remind you you're capable of this as well. You know,
- 30:51Speaker 1: when I think a lot of us it's very easy
- 30:54Speaker 1: to lose sight of the fact that we're capable or
- 30:57Speaker 1: even if we've done something in the past, we can
- 31:00Speaker 1: you know, I know I'll fall into like yeah, when
- 31:02Speaker 1: I was twenty five, like you know, and sure things
- 31:07Speaker 1: change as you age, but it doesn't mean you're suddenly
- 31:09Speaker 1: not able to do anything. So anyway, I just like
- 31:13Speaker 1: this little moment. I like, at any time, Zorro seems
- 31:16Speaker 1: to be really trying to like reach out a tiny bit.
- 31:19Speaker 1: So there's this, and then like at the very end,
- 31:21Speaker 1: he picks Chopper up and puts him on his shoulder,
- 31:24Speaker 1: and it was it was as close to like an
- 31:27Speaker 1: actual hug. I wanted somebody to hug Chopper, frankly, but
- 31:31Speaker 1: you know, like I can't complain when it's two of
- 31:35Speaker 1: the cutest characters together, so, you know, cute in very
- 31:38Speaker 1: different ways. But nevertheless, so Dalton meanwhile is injured. He
- 31:49Speaker 1: has not been killed.
- 31:52Speaker 2: I'll be honest, it doesn't really make a lot of
- 31:55Speaker 2: sense why Wopole doesn't kill Dalton.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I don't really get it. I feel like that would
- 32:01Speaker 1: definitely have happened if this were written a different way,
- 32:06Speaker 1: Like you've got to have a moment that explains why
- 32:10Speaker 1: more because it's just him to say. It cuts from
- 32:16Speaker 1: you going there, just digesting and opening your mouth. And
- 32:20Speaker 1: then we cut to the army arriving at the village
- 32:25Speaker 1: and we eventually see Dalton. But like I don't know
- 32:28Speaker 1: how he got away, and I don't know, I don't know.
- 32:33Speaker 1: It's just Florian says. The implication is that Dalton got away.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Bernadette says, Woppole's a big idiot, and I guess he
- 32:40Speaker 1: wanted to kill him but fucked it up. Florian says,
- 32:43Speaker 1: but yeah, it's weird. Yeah, it's like he's right in
- 32:47Speaker 1: front of Woppole and Woppole has like a weapon capable
- 32:50Speaker 1: of killing easily.
- 32:53Speaker 2: So I don't know it was uh.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Seraphim says, this is better in the source where think
- 33:00Speaker 1: he killed Dalton and it was the doctors who saved him.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Maybe that was like a cut scene in this The
- 33:08Speaker 1: doctor's aspect of this arc is the weirdest part and
- 33:14Speaker 1: it feels the least connected to anything. So maybe that's
- 33:19Speaker 1: where like part of how they were supposed to be
- 33:23Speaker 1: more tied in and have like a moment of heroism,
- 33:25Speaker 1: because when they turn up in the village at the end,
- 33:28Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, yeah, you guys, this is weird.
- 33:31Speaker 1: And if they had had that moment helping Dalton escape
- 33:36Speaker 1: at least or save him, I mean him still being
- 33:40Speaker 1: as injured.
- 33:41Speaker 2: As he is.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Though I guess probably that doesn't make sense because he
- 33:45Speaker 1: still really needs doctor's help when he runs into her,
- 33:50Speaker 1: and if the doctors had done something, he'd be in
- 33:53Speaker 1: better shape. So M, yeah, I don't know.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 34:01Speaker 1: I really want to to talk about kure Ha as well,
- 34:05Speaker 1: just in terms of like her as a character who
- 34:10Speaker 1: is so pessimistic in general, and how I felt about
- 34:18Speaker 1: her in comparison to the anime. I feel like this
- 34:25Speaker 1: was this was a tricky one because she's harsh in
- 34:29Speaker 1: the anime in a way that I didn't appreciate. After
- 34:33Speaker 1: it felt like both like Chopper already had been subjected
- 34:38Speaker 1: to shitty treatment at the hands of hero Look, so
- 34:43Speaker 1: her kind of piling on in a way I was,
- 34:46Speaker 1: you know, I remember watching it and just being like,
- 34:48Speaker 1: can anybody just like not be a fucking asshole to Chopper?
- 34:51Speaker 2: Please?
- 34:52Speaker 1: And the way that this show has softened hero A
- 34:56Speaker 1: Look makes her a much better foil to him, and
- 35:00Speaker 1: the difference between them feels a lot more specific and extreme.
- 35:04Speaker 1: So I like that in terms of how it delineates
- 35:07Speaker 1: the characters. I also think they have turned her harshness
- 35:13Speaker 1: from just being somebody who kind of lashes out into
- 35:17Speaker 1: somebody who is just very like jaded and leaned far
- 35:25Speaker 1: into that as like the source of where her constantly
- 35:30Speaker 1: irritable nature seems to be coming from, this lack of
- 35:34Speaker 1: faith in people, in the lack of faith in the
- 35:37Speaker 1: idea that things are going to get better. And it's
- 35:41Speaker 1: something that's like very relatable to watch because she says
- 35:45Speaker 1: things that I think we've all thought many a time
- 35:48Speaker 1: where it's, you know, during the worst moments, you have
- 35:53Speaker 1: these these the incidents that you know, you watch unfold
- 35:58Speaker 1: before your eyes and you're just like, oh, wow, that
- 36:01Speaker 1: really has like permanently eroded a little bit of my
- 36:07Speaker 1: feelings that humanity deserves a chance, you know. And I
- 36:12Speaker 1: think this show really did a nice job because the
- 36:15Speaker 1: way that I remember it going with Chopper at the
- 36:18Speaker 1: end of the anime is that he is resisting going
- 36:22Speaker 1: and she basically tells him to fuck off, that she
- 36:25Speaker 1: never wants to see him again and get out of
- 36:28Speaker 1: her face and kicks him out for his own good.
- 36:34Speaker 1: So like I'm putting that in quotes with my voice,
- 36:37Speaker 1: not my hands in this video, but like it was,
- 36:42Speaker 1: it was yet another person rejecting Chopper in a way
- 36:47Speaker 1: that like we as viewers can understand what she's doing,
- 36:50Speaker 1: but Chopper doesn't get it, and her being like I say,
- 36:55Speaker 1: Chopper doesn't get it. It's possible that he does, but
- 36:59Speaker 1: even if he does, it's so tightly linked into what
- 37:05Speaker 1: hero Look did that I can't get past it. And overall,
- 37:11Speaker 1: there was just a feeling to the whole thing of like,
- 37:14Speaker 1: Chopper isn't even really choosing to go with the straw
- 37:18Speaker 1: hats fully, like he was right up to the end,
- 37:22Speaker 1: too afraid to really make his own choice. And I
- 37:26Speaker 1: like much better that it's her being like obviously her
- 37:34Speaker 1: saying you ungrateful little shit after everything I've taught you.
- 37:37Speaker 1: I was definitely like, oh damn, she real mad. But
- 37:42Speaker 1: there's also a sense of like she's grown attached to
- 37:45Speaker 1: him and he's just leaving after everything that happened with
- 37:50Speaker 1: hero Look. It feels like I had this one being
- 37:55Speaker 1: that was like my memory of this person that drove
- 37:59Speaker 1: me crazy, but I I can't and I can't fully
- 38:01Speaker 1: admit that they were my friend, you know, And now
- 38:04Speaker 1: they're gonna go too. And there's just a sense of
- 38:08Speaker 1: loneliness with her that I feel like she does manage
- 38:12Speaker 1: to convey even as she's she's just like this is idiotic.
- 38:17Speaker 1: You think you're gonna go out there when you're scared
- 38:20Speaker 1: of everything and cry all the time, and you're gonna
- 38:22Speaker 1: be a fucking big bad pirate.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Are you? Are you high?
- 38:27Speaker 1: And the way that she reacts and the fact that
- 38:31Speaker 1: it's Chopper standing his ground was a lot more satisfying,
- 38:37Speaker 1: both for both characters. And then there's the moment where
- 38:41Speaker 1: he realizes that he forgot his bag and Nami looks
- 38:48Speaker 1: over and is like, wait, this bag And it turns
- 38:51Speaker 1: out that she Correy have put his bag in that
- 38:57Speaker 1: weird little slay thing, that slay thing that flies through
- 39:02Speaker 1: the air, so that we're like freaking Santa Claus at
- 39:05Speaker 1: the end implicitly giving her blessing that he is about
- 39:11Speaker 1: to go on this journey with them, And.
- 39:16Speaker 2: It's just because like.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Korea ever taking a moment to tell Chopper like, you
- 39:23Speaker 1: know what, kid, go for it, best of luck, it
- 39:27Speaker 1: is a it doesn't feel like her, you know this
- 39:33Speaker 1: though silently doing something that he didn't get to see
- 39:37Speaker 1: or know about until after that feels right. And then
- 39:42Speaker 1: we see her sort of on the one hand mocking him,
- 39:46Speaker 1: but on the other hand expressing like, I hope things
- 39:50Speaker 1: go well for him when looking out on the water
- 39:53Speaker 1: as the ship is leaving, she's with Dalton and she
- 39:57Speaker 1: says something about like what a fool he is and
- 40:00Speaker 1: what a fool hero look was and YadA YadA. But
- 40:03Speaker 1: Dalton is like, well, fools saved this place today, actually,
- 40:08Speaker 1: And this is when the d in monkey d loofy
- 40:10Speaker 1: and the d and gold Roger comes up. And I
- 40:17Speaker 1: like that she manages to infuse this like cynicism with
- 40:22Speaker 1: a there's a wistfulness. And I see this in friends
- 40:29Speaker 1: of mine who shall remain nameless a lot, where they
- 40:34Speaker 1: are expressing a point of view that is very negative
- 40:41Speaker 1: and very much assuming the worst of people. But you
- 40:46Speaker 1: can hear in their voice they don't want to believe it,
- 40:49Speaker 1: and they hope they're wrong. They're gonna say it because
- 40:53Speaker 1: to say anything else is to make themselves very vulnerable.
- 40:57Speaker 1: To let anyone know that they hope for better is
- 41:03Speaker 1: opening themselves up too much, and so they can't say it.
- 41:10Speaker 1: But if you know them, you can hear it anyway,
- 41:15Speaker 1: you know. And it's the kind of thing. There's a
- 41:21Speaker 1: line in UH when Harry met Sally that I always
- 41:23Speaker 1: summon up for these moments when you're being really cynical
- 41:27Speaker 1: about something, and you're telling yourself that it's because I'm
- 41:32Speaker 1: keeping myself from being disappointed later if things don't work out,
- 41:37Speaker 1: I won't be crushed with disappointment. And it's always been
- 41:42Speaker 1: funny to me because like, I'm not, I'm a much
- 41:45Speaker 1: more like positive person who hopes for better, and the
- 41:50Speaker 1: idea of like, well, but what if you get disappointed?
- 41:58Speaker 1: So I get disappointed all the time, at least in
- 42:03Speaker 1: the meanwhile, I'm having fun. And in Harry met Sally,
- 42:08Speaker 1: that's what she says to him. He says, like, I'm
- 42:10Speaker 1: just saying, if once the shit goes down, I'm gonna
- 42:13Speaker 1: be prepared and you're not. And she says yeah, and
- 42:17Speaker 1: then in the meantime you can just ruin your whole
- 42:19Speaker 1: life waiting for it. And he kind of pipes down
- 42:24Speaker 1: at that moment, and that is definitely It's like the
- 42:28Speaker 1: sort of thing where you're viewing life as just a
- 42:33Speaker 1: series of conclusions. What you wind up getting is the event.
- 42:38Speaker 1: But for me, getting my hopes up and being excited
- 42:41Speaker 1: about something is a major part of it.
- 42:44Speaker 2: And even if I wind up.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Being disappointed in the end because it doesn't live up,
- 42:49Speaker 1: I still had a lot of fun being excited for
- 42:51Speaker 1: a while and so being let down. Sure, I'll be
- 42:55Speaker 1: let down, but I'd rather have that period of happiness
- 42:59Speaker 1: than just talk about how I bet it's gonna suck
- 43:03Speaker 1: and it's not gonna be any good and everything sucks
- 43:05Speaker 1: and then ooh I get to be proven right what
- 43:08Speaker 1: a reward? Like?
- 43:10Speaker 2: What am I getting out of that? It's it's nothing,
- 43:13Speaker 2: you know.
- 43:14Speaker 1: So Koreh is somebody who definitely has trouble being vulnerable,
- 43:20Speaker 1: and I just hope she works on that because I
- 43:23Speaker 1: like her and I want the best for her. Eventually, she,
- 43:26Speaker 1: you know, is the one that takes all the doctors
- 43:28Speaker 1: in hand and is like, go and fucking do your
- 43:30Speaker 1: jobs too. So they're working on all the towns folks
- 43:33Speaker 1: that help defend the place. Oh sorry, I'm just seeing
- 43:40Speaker 1: Seraphim says he figured it out when he saw she
- 43:42Speaker 1: had put his gear in the sled. Oh you're talking
- 43:47Speaker 1: about in the anime, right, Okay? Yeah? Yeah. Bernadette says,
- 43:51Speaker 1: why does the description of your friend sound like Rashawan
- 43:53Speaker 1: and Candice? I was actually talking about Rashawn and Marshall
- 43:57Speaker 1: my husband, and he's been working on it. But he
- 44:01Speaker 1: and Rashaan.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Are so alike.
- 44:03Speaker 1: It's crazy when the two of them, when we get together,
- 44:07Speaker 1: it's just the two of them like ganging up on
- 44:09Speaker 1: me and roasting me like NonStop, and they roast me
- 44:12Speaker 1: in the exact same way with like the same Simpsons
- 44:16Speaker 1: quotes and everything. But yeah, he he has a hard
- 44:23Speaker 1: time understanding getting my hopes up is part of the fun.
- 44:27Speaker 2: It is not to me.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Like something that crushes my spirit when I'm disappointed, because
- 44:35Speaker 1: if I get disappointed, then I just go next time.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I'll probably be good though, and I just bounce back
- 44:41Speaker 1: pretty quick. I really do, I really do, and you know,
- 44:46Speaker 1: I can. I can. I feel like it's it's one
- 44:50Speaker 1: of the few things about my overall attitude toward life
- 44:54Speaker 1: that tends to work in my favor. A lot of
- 44:56Speaker 1: things that are about my personality and do not, so
- 45:00Speaker 1: I really try to count my blessings that I've got
- 45:02Speaker 1: any So, I also have to back up a little
- 45:08Speaker 1: bit and talk about Viv and her encounter with Robin,
- 45:12Speaker 1: because Robin is mean to her. It's like very interesting
- 45:17Speaker 1: in the context of knowing that Robin is sort of
- 45:20Speaker 1: rooting for Viv in a way. The fact that she
- 45:25Speaker 1: just straight up tells Viv, You're looking around at these
- 45:28Speaker 1: people and you know you're getting the straw hats involved,
- 45:34Speaker 1: and everything that happens to them and happens to your
- 45:37Speaker 1: people of Alabasta, you think is your fault.
- 45:41Speaker 2: And I'm here to.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Tell you it is.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Wow, Robin Damn, I mean ouch, I'm here to tell
- 45:58Speaker 2: you it.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Is my God, and uh, you know, really underscoring this
- 46:06Speaker 1: feeling of she's a villain, she's a bad guy. You know,
- 46:09Speaker 1: it's it's it's quite believable right here. So throughout this
- 46:17Speaker 1: we have occasional check ins with Viv regarding like how
- 46:23Speaker 1: she's feeling about everything. When she has this encounter with Robin,
- 46:27Speaker 1: she eventually is like, I really need to go up
- 46:29Speaker 1: the mountain and find out what all is going on
- 46:32Speaker 1: because I just found out that Walpole has a devil fruit.
- 46:37Speaker 2: And we have her.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Getting to use this climbing tool that USAP made to
- 46:43Speaker 1: go up the side of the mountain.
- 46:44Speaker 2: This like weird reverse.
- 46:47Speaker 1: It's it's a gatling gun and like a repelling gun.
- 46:52Speaker 2: It's a it's a it works, that's the main thing.
- 46:55Speaker 2: It works.
- 46:58Speaker 1: She still nearly dies of hypothermia. She's not adequately dressed,
- 47:02Speaker 1: but she does get to the top and we have
- 47:05Speaker 1: her relaying all of this to them. Now I'll talk
- 47:11Speaker 1: about her and Lufy and Woppole. It's sort of interesting
- 47:17Speaker 1: because at times I really loved this fight against Woppole,
- 47:24Speaker 1: and then there were times where I was like, this
- 47:26Speaker 1: is just not doing it for me. When Lufy's not
- 47:29Speaker 1: taking shit seriously, it's hilarious, you know. At one point
- 47:33Speaker 1: he literally says, are you going to take this seriously?
- 47:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to kill you, which is so embarrassing to
- 47:40Speaker 1: have to say it to.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Your enemy, Like you know what, it reminded me of,
- 47:49Speaker 2: you guys.
- 47:50Speaker 1: I don't know how many of you have even seen this,
- 47:53Speaker 1: but there's film footage of Jeff Bush making a speech
- 48:00Speaker 1: to some like potential donors when he was still running
- 48:04Speaker 1: for president back in like twenty sixteen. And he's making
- 48:09Speaker 1: this speech and he finishes a sentence and there's this
- 48:11Speaker 1: pause and he looks around nobody's really reacting, and then
- 48:16Speaker 1: he says, please clap, and everybody starts. It's agony. It's
- 48:24Speaker 1: so hard to it's I swear to god, you guys,
- 48:28Speaker 1: I think about that moment like almost every day.
- 48:33Speaker 2: There are there there's a thing.
- 48:36Speaker 1: There's a thing we use to like help each other
- 48:40Speaker 1: when we are woken up in the middle of the
- 48:42Speaker 1: night by our embarrassing moments where we're like, nobody remembers
- 48:47Speaker 1: the embarrassing thing. You're the only one because it was you,
- 48:51Speaker 1: and everyone else has forgotten about it, or if they haven't,
- 48:54Speaker 1: who cares. But that's an embarrassing moment that I'm like,
- 48:58Speaker 1: I a total stranger, think about it every day and
- 49:01Speaker 1: still cringe. Jeb Bush, and I know I'm not the
- 49:04Speaker 1: only one. That's how embarrassing you are is that it's
- 49:08Speaker 1: like gotten in my head as if it happened to me.
- 49:13Speaker 2: Yikes.
- 49:15Speaker 1: So Florien says, please clap. Oh how much I quote that?
- 49:20Speaker 1: And Bernadette says, please clap. Shall never be forgotten. Yeah,
- 49:24Speaker 1: this is a a like the the way that wop pole. First,
- 49:32Speaker 1: are you gonna take this seriously? I'm trying to kill you?
- 49:34Speaker 1: And then later he tries to pivot and be like, well,
- 49:38Speaker 1: I'm you know, royalty and protected and so attacking me
- 49:43Speaker 1: is like illegal, you know. Once he realizes that he's
- 49:47Speaker 1: really losing, he tries to do this whole thing where like,
- 49:51Speaker 1: you're attacking me even though he is the one that
- 49:53Speaker 1: came at them.
- 49:56Speaker 2: It's just very unc woppole, that's all I'm saying. I
- 50:03Speaker 2: am not impressed.
- 50:06Speaker 1: But the fight itself with Lufy is similar in terms
- 50:14Speaker 1: of a lot of like wirework that doesn't quite work
- 50:18Speaker 1: for me when he's getting like thrown around. Some of
- 50:21Speaker 1: the best moments are, you know, when Lufy's like wrapping
- 50:24Speaker 1: his hands around his jaws and trying to hold them closed.
- 50:30Speaker 1: There's also Viv's speech where she says that she's like
- 50:35Speaker 1: not a coward and she punches him. It's also really
- 50:38Speaker 1: funny that he's calling her a coward, and I'm like,
- 50:42Speaker 1: what about her is cowardly? She like, you know, but
- 50:47Speaker 1: he doesn't understand that kind of strength. Her getting hit
- 50:52Speaker 1: and then apologizing to you. You take that as her
- 50:55Speaker 1: cow towing because you don't understand that just throwing a
- 51:01Speaker 1: fit and punching back isn't strength. It's actually pitiful and
- 51:06Speaker 1: childish and immature and evidence that you have a lot
- 51:11Speaker 1: of work yet to do. But he doesn't have that
- 51:16Speaker 1: understanding at all. So it sort of reminds me of
- 51:20Speaker 1: like the way that Lufy initially reacted to seeing Shanks
- 51:24Speaker 1: get liquor poured on him and being like, how could
- 51:27Speaker 1: you let him do that? You know, and Shank's being like,
- 51:31Speaker 1: he just spills some booze on me. It's not a
- 51:35Speaker 1: big deal. I will pick my fights for better fucking
- 51:38Speaker 1: reasons than that. I'm not about to just go throw
- 51:40Speaker 1: down with everybody anytime that they say something. And yeah,
- 51:45Speaker 1: Walpole still hasn't learned that and won't because he's been
- 51:51Speaker 1: given a devil fruit. So now he has even more
- 51:54Speaker 1: power to just go ahead and do whatever the fuck
- 51:56Speaker 1: he feels like doing.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Which is not great. We don't don't.
- 52:00Speaker 1: I don't love a person with this type of lack
- 52:02Speaker 1: of self control to be given another means to make
- 52:07Speaker 1: everyone else's lives miserable.
- 52:12Speaker 2: But yeah, so.
- 52:15Speaker 1: I the way that it wraps this fight with him,
- 52:19Speaker 1: there's well, there's first the moment where he's like creating
- 52:22Speaker 1: that gun cannon type thing out of his mouth and
- 52:27Speaker 1: Loofy is holding his jaws shut, and then Vivi comes
- 52:31Speaker 1: over and she uses her Uh, I almost said, silly string,
- 52:37Speaker 1: bro yo yo string. I guess yo yo's are pretty silly.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Silly string isn't like completely out of pocket for that,
- 52:46Speaker 1: But she comes over and wraps it around his mouth
- 52:50Speaker 1: and manages to hold it shut. And I was delighted
- 52:57Speaker 1: when she just says it's time for you to shut
- 53:00Speaker 1: your mouth, and I was like, girl, yes, it fucking
- 53:04Speaker 1: is a meant to that. And he's like making circular
- 53:10Speaker 1: saw blazes and shit coming at Loofy. Lufy's punching him
- 53:15Speaker 1: and uh as this is happening Chopper and actually the
- 53:21Speaker 1: whole crew they're just off to the side watching, which.
- 53:26Speaker 2: I say this in a way.
- 53:28Speaker 1: That makes it sound like I'm being like, I can't
- 53:30Speaker 1: believe you guys didn't jump in, But that's not what
- 53:32Speaker 1: I mean. It's it's more the fact that like they
- 53:34Speaker 1: don't feel the need to jump in because they're so
- 53:36Speaker 1: confident that Lufy can handle this. That I think where
- 53:40Speaker 1: I woppoll and I saw how little they even really
- 53:45Speaker 1: consider me a true threat, and that would bother the
- 53:49Speaker 1: shit out of me if I had his attitude, you know.
- 53:54Speaker 1: So they're heading up towards the uh the like throne
- 53:59Speaker 1: area in the castle, and while Poll shoves Loufy into it,
- 54:04Speaker 1: comes at him with this circular blade and Lufy manages
- 54:08Speaker 1: to like push him off to the side just enough
- 54:11Speaker 1: that he slices through the throne itself, and then Loofy
- 54:19Speaker 1: in combination with Soanjy. This is a weird one, guys.
- 54:26Speaker 1: So he backs up and I'm trying to find the
- 54:33Speaker 1: moment exactly how this happens. So Lufy gets tossed and
- 54:38Speaker 1: we cut briefly, really really briefly to Ousap, who is
- 54:43Speaker 1: using his slingshop, I guess, just to sort of like
- 54:46Speaker 1: mirror what.
- 54:48Speaker 2: All is about to happen.
- 54:50Speaker 1: And then Lufy says gum gum and he reaches his
- 54:55Speaker 1: arms forward. Sonji is standing with his legs at forty
- 55:00Speaker 1: five degree angles, like on one leg with the other
- 55:04Speaker 1: leg in the air in a pose that I feel
- 55:08Speaker 1: like is like triangle to or something in yoga.
- 55:11Speaker 2: It's like a similar thing.
- 55:13Speaker 1: And he Loofy grabs his leg as a sort of
- 55:19Speaker 1: anchor point and propels himself forward with gumgum. Aerosol flies
- 55:26Speaker 1: toward Woppole smashes him, and then it cuts and Woppole's
- 55:32Speaker 1: flying through the window, the like plate glass window of himself.
- 55:36Speaker 1: It's like, you know, stained glass. But Lufy just lands
- 55:39Speaker 1: on the throne. And this is the spot that I
- 55:44Speaker 1: felt was the most poorly done, because the momentum of
- 55:49Speaker 1: Loofy hitting Woppole, both of them should have flown through
- 55:52Speaker 1: that window unless Loofy hits him and like grabs the
- 55:58Speaker 1: throne and holds himself back from going out the window,
- 56:02Speaker 1: which the way it's edited, we don't actually see him
- 56:05Speaker 1: really do that quite the way that you know what
- 56:08Speaker 1: I'm saying, So as he's coming out Walpole, it just
- 56:13Speaker 1: sort of cuts from there to a shot from behind
- 56:18Speaker 1: lufy A's Wopple goes through the window, and there's almost like, wait,
- 56:22Speaker 1: what happened kind of sensation to the moment. I rewound
- 56:28Speaker 1: it when I was watching it because I was like,
- 56:30Speaker 1: hold on, and it's it didn't really like gel any better,
- 56:35Speaker 1: And then watching it now, I'm seeing that like there's
- 56:40Speaker 1: nothing connecting these two moments in the way that it's edited,
- 56:43Speaker 1: and I don't really understand why, because there's they have
- 56:50Speaker 1: done this sort of hit before, you know, they have
- 56:53Speaker 1: had Lufy like hit him the way, and it just
- 56:56Speaker 1: doesn't feel like Lufy's connected to Wopple going through the window.
- 57:02Speaker 1: There's no moment of impact to kind of show him
- 57:08Speaker 1: being propelled off. So for this being like a big
- 57:13Speaker 1: moment when we're dealing with this guy to the degree
- 57:17Speaker 1: that everybody down in the village is about to lose
- 57:20Speaker 1: their weaponry because this guy is so obviously dead. I
- 57:25Speaker 1: just didn't feel like this was quite up to snuff
- 57:30Speaker 1: for such a big moment of taking down a villain.
- 57:34Speaker 2: It just was.
- 57:36Speaker 1: It was a strange shot. It was really strange, and
- 57:41Speaker 1: I don't know, the show has just been so on point,
- 57:44Speaker 1: like so much of the time was kind of low
- 57:47Speaker 1: key doing the impossible and making Lufy's superpower look good
- 57:52Speaker 1: on screen in real live action, which I was like,
- 57:55Speaker 1: how are they ever gonna do that? And they've really
- 57:58Speaker 1: nailed it so often, and then this happened and I
- 58:02Speaker 1: was sort of like, guys, did you fall asleep? Like,
- 58:05Speaker 1: what what's going on here? Florian says, Yeah, the impact
- 58:11Speaker 1: frame is missing. Saraphim says, given there are also a
- 58:14Speaker 1: few shots in here where they forgot to fill in
- 58:16Speaker 1: the green screen of the smash window with anything but blankness,
- 58:21Speaker 1: the get the I think it's got the feeling they
- 58:24Speaker 1: were running low on time slash budget at the end
- 58:27Speaker 1: that may have That may be it, because yeah, there's
- 58:30Speaker 1: just something about this last episode that feels like it
- 58:35Speaker 1: needed going over a few more times in a few places,
- 58:39Speaker 1: and I have been so impressed with this show, so
- 58:45Speaker 1: I can forgive this, especially as it's happening in an
- 58:48Speaker 1: arc that I don't really like. Anyway, I'd much rather
- 58:52Speaker 1: have this sort of sloppiness, for example, happened here than say,
- 58:58Speaker 1: with Buggy and Logtown. You know, absolutely prefer it to
- 59:02Speaker 1: happen here. While Pull sucks everybody in drum Kingdom, I
- 59:07Speaker 1: just find kind of tedious. I just want to get
- 59:10Speaker 1: the fuck out.
- 59:11Speaker 2: You know.
- 59:11Speaker 1: So fine, But for a finale episode and for the
- 59:16Speaker 1: final boss battle, I was genuinely surprised this was not better.
- 59:24Speaker 1: Nehua says, I first thought Lufy's actor wasn't as acrobatic
- 59:27Speaker 1: Azoro or Sanji's actor, so they were faking it. But
- 59:30Speaker 1: then I saw the behind the scenes and apparently in
- 59:32Speaker 1: Yaki has been doing acrobatic classes in the like for
- 59:35Speaker 1: a while and shows up in the behind the scenes
- 59:38Speaker 1: doing backflips and all. Yeah, this for me was not
- 59:41Speaker 1: at all about his ability. It was about the editing purely.
- 59:46Speaker 2: And.
- 59:48Speaker 1: It was a choice that they made with that that
- 59:50Speaker 1: I don't really get. Florian says, can I say something here?
- 59:55Speaker 1: The fights between the angels and Supernatural was lame. I'm
- 59:58Speaker 1: used to anime epic. No just fistfighting. Yeah, look any
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: you know, you know how it is, guys, And I
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: gotta wrap this up soon. But I have really noticed
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: as time progresses and our technology gets better, our standards
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: go up on a lot of stuff, and we begin
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: to just expect more and fight scenes that like certain
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: movies and things have raised my expectation on what to
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: expect from fight scenes, so that when I go back
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: to things that were done in like the early and
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: mid two thousands, and they were made for television like
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: network TV, not even you know, it is jarring because
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: the all of the stunt work for it a lot
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: of the time is just not good and you.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Just have to sort of roll with it.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: And I'll get spoiled by shows like this by Moo,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: like fucking John Wick that remains one of the gold
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: standards for fight choreography. And I really have to, like
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: keep in mind, I don't get to have Filet mignon
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: every time I watch a fight scene.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: It's just not possible.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: We don't all have the budget for that, we don't
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: all have the time to do the rehearsals necessary for that.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: But uh it Nevertheless, it can really kind of like
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: it's either you let the audience see enough so that
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: the fight choreography is like clearly not impressive, or you
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: cut it as much as you can so that you
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: can put it together and make it look like the
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: fight was faster and more fierce than it was, which
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: was a trick that worked for a little while, and
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: then I think a lot of audiences begin to see
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: through that too and begin to realize you're cutting together
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: like movements that don't go together, that we clearly jumped
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: ahead four seconds in the fight just then, you know.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: But Bernadette says, also before the recording is being wrapped up,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: please talk about your reaction to the Crocole boy reveal. Yeah,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: I need to talk about first the uh, the Cherry
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Blossom's thing, which I will just say you all know
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I have never liked this. It's always just been sort
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: of ugh. And I was pleased that in the show
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: it's like definitely a moment, but it's not like it's
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: a moment for Chopper specifically in a way that was
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: like a tribute and it felt different to me than
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: it did in the anime, where I feel like I
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: feel like I was supposed to feel a way about
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: it in the anime, because it's also like everything is
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: so drawn out, you know what I mean that I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: was supposed to get more emotional about it than I did,
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: and in this I felt like it was more I'm
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: supposed to get emotional at Chopper's reaction, you know which
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I just hate watching Chopper cry, so what can be done?
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: But all this to say, I think they did the
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: best they could with that plot beat, because I just
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: don't think that plot beat works either, So that's just
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: that's just me. You know. They really had to make
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: a silk purse out of a sow's ear for this arc,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: and they did their best. But Crocer boy, I swear
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: to god, it is so weird to see him with
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: this makeup when he turns around, I was just like,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: why it is, oh right, he looks dead fucking on
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: to anime crocodile. It is crazy to me, like, and
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: also it's weird because I haven't don't think I realized
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: how much me finding Joe Man finding him attractive is
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: predicated by his beard. With no beard, Oh, I'm gonna
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: have to get used to this. I don't know how
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: I feel about this. I knew he had to be
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: clean shaven for this role, and yet I wasn't ready.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: And I think once I get used to it, I'm
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: gonna be like, nah, man is still fine as hell,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: But it just I think might be the first time
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: I've seen him with no facial hair at all ever,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: might be I'm just you know, it's it's I'm just
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: too much of a fan of facial hair guys.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: And chest hair.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Once you delete that, it's rough for me. I don't
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: love it. I just have trouble getting past it. Bernadette
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: says he looks so good and so accurate, I'll be
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: a mess next season. Florian says he still can get
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: it if you ask me. It's the kind of thing
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: that I think will grow on me. But I had look,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: you know, I have this with Marshall too. Every now
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: and then, especially in the summer, he will get to
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: a point where he's like, I gotta shave my beard off, babe,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: I gotta give my skin some breathing room, and he'll
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: do it, and I'll just be like, who are you?
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Get out of my house. I'll just see him and
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: just like visibly recoil. I can tell he can tell that.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: I'm just like, uhuh.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: And there are whole compilations of videos on TikTok and
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: reels of children reacting to seeing their dads without a
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: beard for the first time. And when I tell you,
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I felt so seen these like toddlers literally burst into tears.
