- 0:32This is Gracelyn Keller with the Becker's Healthcare
- 0:34podcast, and we are recording live at the
- 0:36thirteenth annual CEO and CFO roundtable.
- 0:39I'm currently joined by Efros Hafiz, who is
- 0:42the manager of telemedicine at Rush University System
- 0:45for Health. Thanks so much for being here.
- 0:47I'm gonna have you start off by introducing
- 0:49yourself and telling us a little bit more
- 0:50about your background. Thank you, Grace, for having
- 0:53me, and thank you to Becker for putting
- 0:54on a wonderful conference. My name is doctor
- 0:56Afra Safiz Ali, telemedicine at Rush University System
- 0:59for Health. It's a three, hospital large system
- 1:02with, several ambulatory sites.
- 1:05Main our main hospital is located on the
- 1:07West Side here at Chicago,
- 1:09a significant
- 1:10area with socioeconomic
- 1:12factors as well as a large life expectancy
- 1:14gap compared to downtown.
- 1:17Health equity is a big core of our
- 1:19mission,
- 1:20and we're looking at a variety of avenues
- 1:22inclusive of telemedicine and other digital health opportunities
- 1:25to close that gap.
- 1:26Wonderful.
- 1:27Well, let's start our conversation talking about strategy.
- 1:31I'd love to know what your growth strategy
- 1:32is over the next year or so.
- 1:34Absolutely. We're looking at, quite a few opportunities.
- 1:38Within our virtual care scope, we've expanded from
- 1:41urgent care to virtual primary and specialty as
- 1:43well,
- 1:44closing,
- 1:45those access gaps that we previously had. We're
- 1:49improving outcomes,
- 1:50with a large focus of patient experience as
- 1:53our center piece.
- 1:55Inclusive of this, just to get a little
- 1:56bit more granular,
- 1:58we have expanded
- 1:59across state lines. We're also,
- 2:02in Indiana. We have had a in person
- 2:04presence in Munster specifically, but our virtual offerings
- 2:08have explored,
- 2:09further opportunities. So we're looking forward to growing
- 2:11our volume and having our utilization,
- 2:14grow in that marketplace as well.
- 2:16We're also doing a subscription based service with
- 2:19RushConnect plus
- 2:21as an additional opportunity to,
- 2:23grow across,
- 2:25several regions, through our partners.
- 2:28And lastly, we're looking at, an interesting scope
- 2:31of hybrid virtual,
- 2:32care.
- 2:33In addition,
- 2:35we're looking at an ED virtual care track,
- 2:37telemedicine prods, and getting aligned with our community
- 2:40partners, especially our community based organizations,
- 2:43to see if there could be a staff
- 2:45model service of increasing access,
- 2:47within those,
- 2:48areas of opportunity.
- 2:50Absolutely.
- 2:52And tell us what the most exciting or
- 2:53impactful initiative or project you're currently working on
- 2:56right now is. So within the scope of
- 2:58hybrid virtual care, our preliminary data has shown
- 3:01aligning with the CBO, a trusted entity in
- 3:03the community, certainly improves access points,
- 3:06for that patient population. And our findings include
- 3:09that, sixty three percent
- 3:11reported back in an after survey that this
- 3:13prevented them from going to the ED. And
- 3:15this also increased our referrals back into the
- 3:17system with thirty three percent.
- 3:19So, certainly an opportunity to scale, and we're
- 3:22looking to further explore that to a variety
- 3:24of settings across the Chicagoland area. And this
- 3:27might be a a great model for across
- 3:28the country as well, to really align with,
- 3:32community partners,
- 3:33increase access as well as ease the throughput
- 3:35burdens that we face off the knot, especially
- 3:38in our ED.
- 3:40And what do you think is the most
- 3:41important thing health care executives should be doing
- 3:44right now to make sure their organizations are
- 3:46successful in the future?
- 3:48I would encourage exploring ground up with the
- 3:50assets and resources we currently have. It'll offer,
- 3:54cost efficiency,
- 3:56performance improvement.
- 3:57And the gaps that are you you'll find
- 4:00in that investigation is when we should seek
- 4:02out partners through our vendors and,
- 4:05other scopes that could help kind of mediate
- 4:08that a little bit further. So, certainly,
- 4:10building ground up is still a possibility, especially
- 4:13with our virtual offerings and,
- 4:15with, several health systems already in tune with
- 4:17that. I think it's a significant opportunity.
- 4:20Wonderful. Well, doctor Hafiz, thanks so much for
- 4:22joining me today on the Becker's Healthcare Podcast
- 4:24and sharing these insights. And, again, we are
- 4:26recording live at the thirteenth annual CEO and
- 4:29CFO roundtable.
- 4:31Thank you, Chris.
