- 0:00Speaker 1: Jeff Boscher from the Inside the Birds podcast and of
- 0:03Speaker 1: course Phillyvoice dot com all football season long, we get
- 0:07Speaker 1: ready for the Birds, and of course they play Saturday
- 0:11Speaker 1: night against the Patriots and the kind of a tough
- 0:14Speaker 1: performance to even break down because obviously no starters are.
- 0:18Speaker 2: In that game.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We did hear from Sean Nanny in earlier today and
- 0:22Speaker 1: it seems, Jeff, the main storyline moving forward after two
- 0:25Speaker 1: games is the backup quarterback spot, and I guess we'll
- 0:28Speaker 1: start with that is just something here. Can they trade
- 0:32Speaker 1: one of these guys? How do you kind of look
- 0:34Speaker 1: at what we've seen through two games with Andy Dalton
- 0:37Speaker 1: and Tanner McKee.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Mike, you know, from me coming on and talking to
- 0:41Speaker 3: you since the offseason, early in the offseason, I never
- 0:45Speaker 3: understood how they planned to make it work with four
- 0:49Speaker 3: quarterbacks once they drafted Cole Payton and had four. To me,
- 0:54Speaker 3: it just didn't make sense. You don't want to, you know,
- 0:56Speaker 3: for many reasons. We talked about snaps in practice, about
- 0:59Speaker 3: having you know, a plan to be able to optimize
- 1:04Speaker 3: your fifty three man roster and keep it the floor
- 1:06Speaker 3: when you're only going to play one and maybe two
- 1:08Speaker 3: only if your one gets hurt. It's just a really
- 1:11Speaker 3: difficult proposition. So I'm I you know, I don't claim
- 1:15Speaker 3: to have the answer. I claim to be confused. I
- 1:17Speaker 3: know that Howie Roseman, we've talked about this on Inside
- 1:19Speaker 3: the Bird. Adam has brought up Howie Roseman's always liked
- 1:22Speaker 3: Andy Dalton. I don't know how much he's liking him
- 1:24Speaker 3: right now. McKee had a slow start in general, I
- 1:31Speaker 3: felt watching him Saturday night that he looked more comfortable.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Still not perfect.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I mean we've seen like this guy look like an
- 1:38Speaker 3: absolute stud and to the point where you're like, hey,
- 1:40Speaker 3: this guy could be like a starter in the NFL.
- 1:42Speaker 4: And maybe he still could.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Not everything was perfect, but I mean he was certainly
- 1:46Speaker 3: in a much better rhythm and operating the new offense
- 1:50Speaker 3: the way it should be operated on Saturday.
- 1:52Speaker 4: And obviously, and you know, I won't make too much
- 1:54Speaker 4: of it, but today.
- 1:56Speaker 3: He was the first quarterback up at camp practice and
- 1:58Speaker 3: with the same.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Let me ask you what I mean.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Obviously we're talking about the backup quarterback and you're hoping
- 2:03Speaker 1: it doesn't come to any factor, But what are the
- 2:05Speaker 1: Eagles looking for from their backup quarterback? The veteran presence
- 2:09Speaker 1: in Andy Dalton or maybe a guy who if they
- 2:13Speaker 1: if for whatever reason, Jalen Hurts got hurt, the better player.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the Eagles have always valued a the position,
- 2:19Speaker 3: but they've always valued a veteran backup.
- 2:22Speaker 4: I mean, you know, it was Kenny Pickett for a
- 2:24Speaker 4: little while before.
- 2:25Speaker 3: That, it was somebody whose names, Nick Foles was there,
- 2:28Speaker 3: you know. I mean, they've always had a veteran back up,
- 2:31Speaker 3: a Joe Flacco, you know. But then they've also been
- 2:34Speaker 3: a big proponent of drafting young quarterbacks as many, you know,
- 2:38Speaker 3: as often as possible to develop them. You know, we've
- 2:41Speaker 3: seen that with Thorston, We've seen that with Hurts, We've
- 2:43Speaker 3: seen that.
- 2:44Speaker 4: With Cole Payton.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Now we saw it last year with Kyle McCord. So
- 2:48Speaker 3: it's great philosophy. I just it's just rare that you
- 2:51Speaker 3: see it. And then you have four.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Guys on the fifty three. So what are they looking for?
- 2:56Speaker 3: Honestly, they don't have a template, right because we've discussed
- 2:59Speaker 3: how often they've had a quarterback like Jalen Hurts who
- 3:02Speaker 3: can run and give you all sorts of rushing production.
- 3:05Speaker 3: They have a quarterback like Tanner McKee, who's not ever
- 3:08Speaker 3: going to run and give you a rushing production. They
- 3:11Speaker 3: just like the position and like to have as much
- 3:13Speaker 3: talent at it as possible. And yes, they do prefer
- 3:17Speaker 3: to have someone who, if your starter goes down, has
- 3:21Speaker 3: been through some wars there, and Dalton certainly has, Flacco
- 3:25Speaker 3: has you know, pick. It had at least been a
- 3:26Speaker 3: starter for the Steelers in a very tough division for
- 3:30Speaker 3: a while. So it sounded it felt like they were
- 3:33Speaker 3: trying to get the best of both worlds there with
- 3:35Speaker 3: McKee and Dalton, But then they drafted Cole Payton and
- 3:38Speaker 3: then it all just to me didn't make sense in
- 3:42Speaker 3: terms of a long term plan.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I'm sure they have one.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I'm just saying, like from the outside looking in, it
- 3:47Speaker 3: doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Well, at this point, Jeff, do you think that Howie
- 3:52Speaker 1: Roseman is saying if either one of the quarterbacks have
- 3:55Speaker 1: any value on the trade market.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I'm sure.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I'm sure he is, And then I'm sure people are
- 3:59Speaker 3: calling him I asking about it. The question I have
- 4:02Speaker 3: to ask yourself is what is the market now for Dalton?
- 4:07Speaker 4: Who is what?
- 4:08Speaker 3: Thirty eight has not put great film this preseason on?
- 4:15Speaker 3: You know, it was okay last.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Year when he had to play with the Panthers.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know. I mean I do think
- 4:21Speaker 3: that there probably is. It's no, I wouldn't say no market.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Every team always likes to have a good veteran backup.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And we'll have to see if somebody wants to take
- 4:30Speaker 3: Andy Dalton off the Eagles hands or kind of call,
- 4:34Speaker 3: you know, dare them to keep for QBS and see
- 4:36Speaker 3: what kind of roster, you know, maneuvering the Eagles will do.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Jeff at running back, You're looking at the backup quarterback.
- 4:45Speaker 1: What about the running back situation. Carson Steele obviously had
- 4:49Speaker 1: a night on Saturday. You've got Shipley back. There is
- 4:53Speaker 1: the backup running back. Even a conversation or something that
- 4:56Speaker 1: the Eagles are even considering right now.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Here's the conver station, you know. And it's funny because we're,
- 5:02Speaker 3: you know, the beat writers. We all kind of discuss
- 5:05Speaker 3: things on I'm just amongst ourselves. There's some you know,
- 5:07Speaker 3: Jimmy Keemski, my colleague in Philly Voice, he really thinks
- 5:10Speaker 3: that that Carson Steele is playing himself onto the fifty three.
- 5:15Speaker 3: And I think it's a fair argument if you believe
- 5:19Speaker 3: that that the Eagles like to keep running backs, and
- 5:22Speaker 3: they've kept for quite a bit. But the argument is
- 5:26Speaker 3: also that when they do that, that guy tends to
- 5:28Speaker 3: collect dust. Right, whether it's aj Dillon, whether it's Rashad Penny.
- 5:33Speaker 3: It's been other guys in the past who just basically
- 5:35Speaker 3: sit there and don't play tray sermon for.
- 5:37Speaker 4: A while, right, They they just don't play.
- 5:40Speaker 3: And Saquon's your workhorse, Bigsby, we're all talking about maybe
- 5:44Speaker 3: seeing an expanded role.
- 5:45Speaker 4: And Shipley's had a really good camp.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And if you're gonna get somebody on the field to
- 5:49Speaker 3: give you a little juice in the uh in the
- 5:51Speaker 3: passing game, that's not.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Saquon Shipley looks like he's pretty good there.
- 5:56Speaker 3: So my argument would be there's no reason to keep
- 6:00Speaker 3: Carson Steel unless you've got some kind of fullback idea
- 6:04Speaker 3: in mind.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Interestingly, today I practice, they threw Dallas Goddard in a
- 6:08Speaker 4: fullback role on a snap. That was interesting.
- 6:11Speaker 3: But even if they keep them, what's he gonna do?
- 6:16Speaker 4: I mean, how much time?
- 6:17Speaker 3: Why would you expand when you when you break it
- 6:19Speaker 3: down this way, right, you're looking at maybe having to keep.
- 6:22Speaker 4: We just talked about four quarterbacks, right, at least three.
- 6:26Speaker 3: If you're looking at maybe having to keep these two
- 6:28Speaker 3: kids that they brought onto the team from Africa, right,
- 6:32Speaker 3: Joshua Waru and u Ar Bernard, knowing that they're not
- 6:35Speaker 3: going to play, but you're gonna have to occupy two
- 6:38Speaker 3: spots in your fifty three.
- 6:39Speaker 4: How do you also keep a fourth running back?
- 6:42Speaker 3: Knowing you need to keep a lot of offensive lineman
- 6:45Speaker 3: and defensive lineman. You're gonna have to keep a couple
- 6:47Speaker 3: of different safeties and corners. The math at some point
- 6:50Speaker 3: just doesn't add up if you're just keeping all these guys.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's something that's gonna come up as we
- 6:56Speaker 1: have further conversations based on two games.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You look at wide receiver.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He got good news today that Lemon was finally able
- 7:02Speaker 1: to practice, So that's something there. Obviously you have you know,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Ques Watkins has fifty three snaps, Tory forty five, You've
- 7:11Speaker 1: got Covey here, You've got Cooper here. When you look
- 7:13Speaker 1: at the wide receivers, has this Have these two games
- 7:16Speaker 1: done anything to clear that position up?
- 7:19Speaker 4: You know?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Not really?
- 7:21Speaker 3: Now the interesting in today is Lemon's practicing for the
- 7:24Speaker 3: first time in.
- 7:25Speaker 4: A while right weeks yep, full practice.
- 7:28Speaker 3: He he looked like a guy that the coaches were
- 7:31Speaker 3: trying to make up three weeks of time in one session.
- 7:34Speaker 3: I mean the amount of motion pre snap motion and
- 7:37Speaker 3: him running. He must have ran more ten times more
- 7:40Speaker 3: yards horizontally than vertically today. I mean he motion left
- 7:44Speaker 3: across the line, screamers motion right across the liner. Oh,
- 7:46Speaker 3: left then right, then right then left. I mean they
- 7:48Speaker 3: were he must his conditioning is probably gonna be pretty
- 7:51Speaker 3: good after after today because he was, which is good
- 7:54Speaker 3: to see. By the way, that's supposed to be a
- 7:56Speaker 3: big part of this offense.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Sean Mannion's bringing that.
- 7:59Speaker 3: We we've seed it at times in practice, but not
- 8:02Speaker 3: as heavy as today, where you have that pre slat motion,
- 8:05Speaker 3: that bootleg play action off of it, which gets you
- 8:09Speaker 3: some nice, easy, theoretically easy pitch and catch situations. We
- 8:14Speaker 3: saw a little bit of that Saturday against the Patriots.
- 8:17Speaker 4: So what has it changed?
- 8:18Speaker 3: No, because I think you know you're one and two
- 8:21Speaker 3: are cemented. They are they're DeVante Smith and Dontavian Wicks.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Your slot receiver is Makai Lemon.
- 8:29Speaker 3: He lined up a lot there today because you know
- 8:30Speaker 3: he still has two weeks. That's the benefit of the
- 8:32Speaker 3: late start. I mean, he'll be ready. As long as
- 8:34Speaker 3: he doesn't suffer another energy injury, he'll be ready. The
- 8:38Speaker 3: question is just how much will he be ready for?
- 8:41Speaker 3: How much eleven personnel will they play? Will they play
- 8:44Speaker 3: more twelve? But the pecking order will be those three
- 8:47Speaker 3: guys Wix, Lemon and Smith as the number one, and
- 8:52Speaker 3: we'll see if Hollywood Brown gets folded in there and
- 8:55Speaker 3: Darius Cooper two.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Yeah, so wide receiver. Obviously, it would be nice to
- 8:59Speaker 1: see Lemon and I don't know. I don't think he's
- 9:01Speaker 1: gonna play in the last game here, but it will
- 9:03Speaker 1: be nice to see him get consistent practice rep so
- 9:06Speaker 1: that he can have a role by week one. Is
- 9:09Speaker 1: that something that's possible you think?
- 9:11Speaker 4: Is it possible? Yes?
- 9:12Speaker 3: I mean think about how much they have now between
- 9:15Speaker 3: now and week one. Right, You've got tomorrow night's open
- 9:18Speaker 3: practice at the link. You've got Wednesday another practice, so
- 9:22Speaker 3: i'll be three practices. Did he was limited quote unquote
- 9:26Speaker 3: against the Patriots? Are so means he was on a field.
- 9:28Speaker 3: He didn't do any of that team work, but he
- 9:31Speaker 3: was running, so I mean he's getting involved.
- 9:33Speaker 4: And then after the Bengals game.
- 9:35Speaker 3: They'll resume next week, they'll have a week, they'll have
- 9:39Speaker 3: about two weeks worth of practices there before they actually
- 9:41Speaker 3: have to play in a game.
- 9:43Speaker 4: So if you consider this week, those two weeks.
- 9:46Speaker 3: And plus the factory did a little bit of stuff
- 9:49Speaker 3: last week, that's gonna be almost a month of work.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Yeah, for the opener.
- 9:54Speaker 3: So again, my thing is it's about usage, not availability,
- 9:59Speaker 3: the availabilit He should be there as long as he's healthy.
- 10:02Speaker 3: You said you held a question about knowing the offense
- 10:05Speaker 3: and everything, So.
- 10:06Speaker 1: All right, so we looked at the running backs of
- 10:08Speaker 1: the wide receivers at tight end here. You know, you
- 10:10Speaker 1: take a look at that position in Sean Mannion's offense
- 10:14Speaker 1: and you take a look at what they've done so far.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Eli Stowers has not had a big impact. I think
- 10:20Speaker 1: Dalton was a Dalton that kind of overthrew him in
- 10:23Speaker 1: the game. But how is that position kind of maticulating
- 10:26Speaker 1: after two games?
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I have to if you were to ask me, like,
- 10:30Speaker 3: what position do I think Howie Roseman was most likely
- 10:33Speaker 3: to make a move at to really make sure he
- 10:35Speaker 3: has a what they need at, it would be tight end? Maybe, say,
- 10:40Speaker 3: I know, safety was the hot position to talk about
- 10:43Speaker 3: for that going into camp, I'm not as concerned about
- 10:46Speaker 3: safety with the gem with Michael Carter to the junior
- 10:49Speaker 3: playing all right, Apps being there, I think they're they're okay,
- 10:52Speaker 3: not great, but they're okay.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Tight end.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I think that they're gonna have some real struggles Mike
- 10:59Speaker 3: trying to do things operationally, whether you're in when you're
- 11:02Speaker 3: in twelve personnel, if they want to try thirteen personnel,
- 11:05Speaker 3: if you want to go jumbo at times, I think
- 11:07Speaker 3: they're gonna have some just some difficulty there because if
- 11:11Speaker 3: you're playing multiple tight ends, you've got to be able
- 11:13Speaker 3: to not tell the defense what you're doing.
- 11:15Speaker 4: But you know, if you have Mont.
- 11:18Speaker 3: And Goddard on the field, you know you're you're probably
- 11:21Speaker 3: running and if you're passing, you're really limiting yourself to
- 11:24Speaker 3: just four outlets because Month is not much of a
- 11:27Speaker 3: pass catcher, right, But if you take Month off and
- 11:29Speaker 3: put Stours on, if he's ready, if not, if it's
- 11:33Speaker 3: Calcatara or cam Latu is a guy that I'm not
- 11:36Speaker 3: sure is going to make the fifty three now. I
- 11:39Speaker 3: just don't see how they can do everything they want
- 11:41Speaker 3: to do with this current set of tight ends without
- 11:44Speaker 3: being fully fully transparent.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I thought one of the storylines of the night was
- 11:50Speaker 1: the depth of the offensive line kind of showed Jeff,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you take a look at the battles that are emerging there.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I thought the big takeaway was the fact that the
- 11:59Speaker 1: second and third units looked like they were capable.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, Adam and I talked about that on the pod
- 12:04Speaker 3: that dropped this morning inside the Birds, And if there's one,
- 12:07Speaker 3: you know, we always caution, and we do it with
- 12:10Speaker 3: you as well, like to your listeners. You know, you
- 12:12Speaker 3: can't just just not a lot. You can take out
- 12:14Speaker 3: a training camp and extrapolate to how things are gonna
- 12:17Speaker 3: go in the regular season.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:18Speaker 3: But if there's one thing that I feel I can
- 12:21Speaker 3: plant my flag in is that their offensive line depth
- 12:24Speaker 3: will be improved from last year. When you're talking about
- 12:28Speaker 3: your three guys off the bench last year were Fred Johnson,
- 12:32Speaker 3: Matt Pryor, and Brett Toth Right, this year you're talking
- 12:38Speaker 3: about Fred Johnson, Markel Bell, Drew Kendall, and then even
- 12:42Speaker 3: past that, guys like Willie Lampkin and Jake Majors. I thought,
- 12:47Speaker 3: move people. You know, I don't know if I'll make
- 12:49Speaker 3: the fifty three. But I like what I've seen. Again,
- 12:54Speaker 3: I don't know how any of these guys other than
- 12:56Speaker 3: Fred would hold up if they had to play like
- 12:58Speaker 3: three or four regular season real games. But I don't
- 13:02Speaker 3: think they'd be any worse than or any much of
- 13:06Speaker 3: a liability than toath Well. And Matt Pryor was who
- 13:09Speaker 3: had a good camp by the way, last last year,
- 13:12Speaker 3: you remember him. He came into that Rams game. He
- 13:15Speaker 3: was a turnstile and then they had to take Jet.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Last year, we felt that, man, they added all this
- 13:21Speaker 1: depth to the offensive line, getting a guy like Prior,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and they had some of these veteran guys, and you
- 13:25Speaker 1: were like, man, uh, the problem was a lot of
- 13:28Speaker 1: those veteran players seemingly hit the end of the road.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so, And again that's why I'm a little cautious
- 13:34Speaker 3: about what I've seen. But you know, you're talking about
- 13:36Speaker 3: with Kendall, you're talking about second year player, good bloodlines,
- 13:39Speaker 3: put on weight, has ran with the first and second team,
- 13:43Speaker 3: moved people.
- 13:44Speaker 4: In the game, you know. So I'm not I don't
- 13:47Speaker 4: think we're seeing fools gold there.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I just think we're seeing a pretty good player who's
- 13:50Speaker 3: developing in year two and Listen.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I don't have to tell you about Mark L.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Bell.
- 13:54Speaker 3: You could see it with your own eyes. I mean,
- 13:56Speaker 3: he's gigantic, you know. I mean, do I think if
- 13:59Speaker 3: you had a him right away at right tackle for
- 14:02Speaker 3: three or four ge Like, let's say Ryan Johnson gets
- 14:04Speaker 3: hurt week one and you he has to start. Is
- 14:06Speaker 3: he gonna get exposed in things like pass protection or
- 14:09Speaker 3: even playing a little.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Too high in the run game at certain times on
- 14:12Speaker 4: the wide zone.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's not a deal, but I you know,
- 14:16Speaker 3: I remember what it looked like with with with Matt
- 14:19Speaker 3: Pryor out there, and it was not good. So at
- 14:21Speaker 3: least you have somebody who's young that you're moldings, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 3: gonna go out there and is enormous and just can
- 14:27Speaker 3: fall forward on a guy and give you some space.
- 14:29Speaker 3: And of course you have Fred there as well. So
- 14:31Speaker 3: I just do I do believe depth will be better.
- 14:34Speaker 3: And then the question becomes will they be relied upon?
- 14:38Speaker 3: And the two guys that I really can't tell you
- 14:42Speaker 3: about because training camp is just training camp, is how
- 14:45Speaker 3: Lane Johnson and Landon Dickerson are gonna look Week one,
- 14:48Speaker 3: Week two going forward.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Jeff Boscher Football at four from the Inside of the Birds
- 14:52Speaker 1: podcast Philly Voice dot Com. And uh, you know, let's
- 14:55Speaker 1: look at the defense. You mentioned Josh we Rue and
- 15:00Speaker 1: who are Bernard? Those two guys. You know Bernard is
- 15:03Speaker 1: or we had the sack the other night. Bernard is
- 15:07Speaker 1: starting to you know, flash a little bit here, and
- 15:10Speaker 1: you wonder what they do with some of the edge
- 15:12Speaker 1: rushers on this team. You got Abachetti at Panessa, they
- 15:15Speaker 1: got fifteen snaps a piece. So where are they after
- 15:19Speaker 1: two games at that spot?
- 15:20Speaker 3: Yeah, So Vic Fangio said last week something interesting about Grenard.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I mean, we already knew he had said it the
- 15:26Speaker 3: week before that Grenard is probably not going to be
- 15:29Speaker 3: able to play a camp, so we'll see week one.
- 15:31Speaker 3: So he said, you know, I'm really looking for both
- 15:33Speaker 3: Epanessa and Aka to really step up. And so that
- 15:38Speaker 3: was sort of a signal to me that Vick is
- 15:40Speaker 3: already thinking about week one, not sure about Grenard and
- 15:44Speaker 3: really opening up that rotation from three to four, which
- 15:47Speaker 3: we talked about that he's been reluctant.
- 15:49Speaker 4: To do in the past and playing for edge rusher.
- 15:53Speaker 3: So I think that helps Epinessa's chance to make the
- 15:57Speaker 3: team now and then as you're mentioning you're gonna it
- 16:01Speaker 3: will be a risk to explode, expose Joshua U with
- 16:05Speaker 3: all that athleticism, what he showed to Waivers. So if
- 16:08Speaker 3: you're keeping that guy, then you're probably keeping six edges
- 16:13Speaker 3: because Grenard's not gonna start. They're on pup unless they
- 16:17Speaker 3: think he's four weeks away, which nobody has given that indication. Right,
- 16:22Speaker 3: So that's gonna be again when we talk about numbers
- 16:25Speaker 3: and you're trying to see how many people are gonna
- 16:27Speaker 3: make it in certain positions, if they're keeping six edges
- 16:30Speaker 3: at least for until they're ready to go, for like
- 16:33Speaker 3: Grenard's really ready to play as many snaps and then
- 16:35Speaker 3: they can maybe cut loose somebody, but for now they
- 16:38Speaker 3: may have to keep six edges and Vic might play four.
- 16:41Speaker 3: So that's sort of an interesting roster discussion there. And
- 16:44Speaker 3: the Bernard, Right, Bernard, you asked about two. You saw
- 16:48Speaker 3: Tyro Robinson come on, you know, Byron Young didn't even
- 16:51Speaker 3: play because he's already the fourth tackle. So now we're
- 16:54Speaker 3: talking about six d t's that are probably gonna be
- 16:56Speaker 3: on the fifty three.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I was gonna, you know, Bernard would be more of
- 16:59Speaker 1: an interior guy. We would be more of an outside guy.
- 17:02Speaker 1: But Robinson, who just I mean was an All Pro
- 17:06Speaker 1: the other night. I don't know how much that matters
- 17:08Speaker 1: for him, but he was a fourth round pick, and
- 17:10Speaker 1: you wonder where now that puts him in the pecking order.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I mean, there's no pecking order, there's just making the
- 17:18Speaker 3: fifty three, you know, right, it's developed.
- 17:20Speaker 4: I mean vic Vic has said it, and it's pretty obvious.
- 17:23Speaker 3: I mean, these guys are years away from being years away, right,
- 17:26Speaker 3: I mean what Jordan Mailata took two to three years
- 17:30Speaker 3: before he was on the field, and he had to
- 17:32Speaker 3: overcome some back injuries too.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Remember I've talked about this.
- 17:35Speaker 3: These guys are taking a punishment on their body that
- 17:38Speaker 3: they have never absorbed in their entire life. They didn't
- 17:41Speaker 3: have Pop Warner, they didn't have you know, high school ball,
- 17:44Speaker 3: they didn't have college ball to like get their body
- 17:47Speaker 3: used to what they're going through now. So you have
- 17:49Speaker 3: to hope these guys continue to stay healthy, unless, of course,
- 17:52Speaker 3: there's the phantom ir stash that you always have to
- 17:55Speaker 3: wonder if that comes into play.
- 17:57Speaker 4: But they're not guys.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I believe at this moment that we're going to talk
- 18:02Speaker 3: about as anything other than making the fifty three because
- 18:05Speaker 3: they are maya a lotta like developmental projects, will not
- 18:09Speaker 3: see the field at all in year one.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Does Robinson have any shot to do anything?
- 18:17Speaker 4: Yeah? To make the team?
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 18:18Speaker 4: And then I get the spirit of the question.
- 18:22Speaker 3: It's going to be very difficult to find snaps for
- 18:25Speaker 3: him when you've got four guys already at five really right,
- 18:30Speaker 3: you've got Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Moro Joma, and Byron
- 18:33Speaker 3: Young ahead of them.
- 18:34Speaker 4: But where he's different from.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Byron Young, who can play multiple spots and is good
- 18:40Speaker 3: good power player. I mean, Robinson you can see has
- 18:42Speaker 3: some pass rush. He's got a great club move. I
- 18:45Speaker 3: mean it's I can't call it great, it's a very
- 18:47Speaker 3: effective club move. And that's really helped him have a
- 18:50Speaker 3: very good camp in preseason. And you know, there might
- 18:55Speaker 3: be some opportunities for Vic to throw him in there
- 18:57Speaker 3: in a four man rush in a game where a
- 18:59Speaker 3: lot of guys have to play a lot of snaps,
- 19:00Speaker 3: like you're playing the Rams and Bears. Right week three
- 19:03Speaker 3: and Week four, those are really good offenses there. They're
- 19:05Speaker 3: probably gonna be on the field quite a bit. Those
- 19:07Speaker 3: offenses because they just know how to move the ball
- 19:10Speaker 3: in general, and so there'll be a lot of reps
- 19:12Speaker 3: for the defense and maybe there's some time to get
- 19:15Speaker 3: Robinson on the field to show that that move and
- 19:17Speaker 3: that development. But it's not gonna be a whole lot.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the hard part is it's much like the
- 19:23Speaker 1: linebacker position. You see Jeremiah Trotter sacks all over the
- 19:26Speaker 1: place when he's played in regular season games, he's been active.
- 19:30Speaker 1: You just don't know, other than an injury, how he
- 19:33Speaker 1: gets onto the field that anybody else stand out at
- 19:36Speaker 1: linebacker and.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Linebacker man, you know, man, poor Jeremiah Trotter junior.
- 19:42Speaker 3: You know, if you were born five years earlier and
- 19:45Speaker 3: came to the Eagles around twenty eighteen nineteen, you know,
- 19:49Speaker 3: he would have been like their best line back.
- 19:51Speaker 4: It's just like c. Jeward. He would have been their
- 19:53Speaker 4: best linebacker by like ten miles, right.
- 19:55Speaker 3: And now he's in the rare era where you're a
- 19:59Speaker 3: really good, instinctual, smart, fundamentally found inside linebacker and you
- 20:06Speaker 3: can't somehow get into the starting lineup.
- 20:08Speaker 4: For the Eagles.
- 20:09Speaker 3: You know who would have thought that, right, But that's
- 20:11Speaker 3: the situation. A first round picks ahead of him, and
- 20:14Speaker 3: all pro is ahead of him. Ken Vic find ways
- 20:17Speaker 3: you know, this is something Adam and I have talked about.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Can you find ways to get Trotter on the field
- 20:22Speaker 3: maybe then swing Bond down on the edges in a
- 20:26Speaker 3: certain kind of like I don't know six'.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Two, Look, no that wouldn't be right because then you
- 20:31Speaker 4: don't only have three people available in your. Secondary So
- 20:34Speaker 4: i'm just showing you how it, is how tough it.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Is right, now you can put porn on the edge
- 20:37Speaker 3: Because vick has done that, before but then you're taking
- 20:40Speaker 3: somebody from that front four or front five off and
- 20:43Speaker 3: those front four from five are all all pros, too
- 20:46Speaker 3: or really good, players right you're talking About davis And
- 20:48Speaker 3: carter And.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Hunt who's really coming? On had a great practice, Today Nolan.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Smith so, again, yeah there.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Are, opportunities just like with Ty, robbinson to maybe get
- 20:57Speaker 3: him on the field for a few snaps just to
- 21:00Speaker 3: like tinker with some.
- 21:01Speaker 4: Packages but unless somebody gets, hurt.
- 21:03Speaker 2: There's just not a, Pathway, no there is.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Not it feels like it feels like For trotter And,
- 21:09Speaker 3: robinson like next, year you, know if A jomo moves
- 21:13Speaker 3: on that would be an opportunity For robinson to like
- 21:16Speaker 3: have a good year this year and his limited snaps
- 21:18Speaker 3: and then replace The ajomo role if. Possible and then you,
- 21:21Speaker 3: KNOW i, know they did something weird With bond's, contract
- 21:24Speaker 3: and for whatever, reason this winds up BEING i think
- 21:27Speaker 3: this is the last year of his, deal, right or
- 21:28Speaker 3: is this the second year of the three year?
- 21:30Speaker 4: DEAL i can't.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Remember.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Second, Yeah but for whatever, reason if that third, year
- 21:34Speaker 3: if he's not the same, guy or or they don't
- 21:37Speaker 3: want to pay that money and he becomes, expendable maybe
- 21:41Speaker 3: Then trotter moves in next To.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Campbell but that to me is, LIKE i, mean we're
- 21:44Speaker 4: talking a year from now.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Already, WELL i Mean campbell is in the greatest you,
- 21:49Speaker 1: know bill of health.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Throughout you need you do need depth.
- 21:53Speaker 1: There, lastly you look at the secondary and what has
- 21:56Speaker 1: emerged here over the first two. Games what do we
- 22:00Speaker 1: see how the storylines have emerged through two games in the?
- 22:04Speaker 3: Secondary, WELL i think the biggest second story in the,
- 22:07Speaker 3: Secondary mike is despite their you, know acquisitions of like
- 22:13Speaker 3: three hundred corners over the last two, years they really
- 22:15Speaker 3: don't have a third corner or fourth for that, matter
- 22:19Speaker 3: but a third you, know they've always looked for a
- 22:21Speaker 3: good backup. Corner But Jonathan jones is thirty. Three he's
- 22:24Speaker 3: been out of practice for almost two weeks now or
- 22:26Speaker 3: more than two. Weeks it doesn't there's no word if
- 22:30Speaker 3: he's coming back. Soon and he's also thirty, three IF
- 22:33Speaker 3: i didn't mention that, Already so who's the top? Backup
- 22:37Speaker 3: If Jonathan jones isn't ready or doesn't make the, team
- 22:40Speaker 3: then you get into the killering goes, again and the
- 22:43Speaker 3: mac McWilliams and The Jacoryan bennetts and you know Three
- 22:46Speaker 3: Castro fields was having a nice camp and he's ON ir,
- 22:48Speaker 3: now so he's out of the. Picture AND i don't
- 22:51Speaker 3: think anybody is real impressed with How Ambry thomas Or
- 22:55Speaker 3: Sean wade played in the fourth quarter.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Of that Game saturday.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Night so, again your situation, is if you get an
- 23:04Speaker 3: injury to, woman or if you get an injury To,
- 23:06Speaker 3: mitchell do you then have to pull The gene out
- 23:09Speaker 3: of safety play in a, corner put somebody else at,
- 23:12Speaker 3: safety you, know whether It's EPs Or, carter who they
- 23:17Speaker 3: believe are good, players but in third, role number three
- 23:20Speaker 3: roles not starting roles, Right and THEN i don't know
- 23:24Speaker 3: if they truly believe In cooper De gene as an
- 23:26Speaker 3: outside corner or else they wouldn't have gone and paid
- 23:29Speaker 3: twelve million For. Riequill and they like the Gene mores
- 23:32Speaker 3: And nicols slash safety for, now and when they drafted
- 23:34Speaker 3: him it was one.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Thing now it's.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Another SO i think that's the biggest question mark is
- 23:39Speaker 3: how healthy can this secondary stay because the depth at
- 23:43Speaker 3: some spots is gonna be.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Shaky by the, Way Zach baughn has no guaranteed money left.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Right after this.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Season, yeah so so that's just maybe that's why maybe
- 23:54Speaker 3: there's an opportunity if he's not with the team next
- 23:56Speaker 3: year For, trotter then slide in next To, campbell who.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Knows all right, there you, go two preseason games, down
- 24:04Speaker 1: one More Friday, night and then the fifty three will
- 24:07Speaker 1: be set as The eagles get ready For washington to
- 24:11Speaker 1: start the Season cincinnati On friday, night and you can
- 24:15Speaker 1: listen to all The eagles action right here on ninety
- 24:17Speaker 1: seven THREE, espn and you can get More eagles from
- 24:20Speaker 1: The inside The birds, podcast which dropped this morning on
- 24:23Speaker 1: all podcasting platforms with that man right, There Jeff mosher
- 24:27Speaker 1: back for another season of football at four here on
- 24:29Speaker 1: The Sports.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Bash all, right, brother we'll talk to you all.
