- 0:09Speaker 1: that means to you as union president?
- 0:11Speaker 2: So as union president, as union president, it's a great
- 0:16Speaker 2: honor to stand here with our members who are the

- 0:22Speaker 2: our recognitions to show we appreciated, which is sell them
- 0:26Speaker 2: to get appreciated, appreciation from the republic and others. But
- 0:29Speaker 2: we we are we drive the system, recreating our structure.
- 0:34Speaker 2: So it's a problem for us to stand here and
- 0:36Speaker 2: our members get recognized for what they.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Do, you know, the honorees. But tell us about why
- 0:41Speaker 1: there is a venisone Bartners. We only hear about unions
- 0:44Speaker 1: in bad situations, right, how good is ermin good situations
- 0:48Speaker 1: like this?
- 0:48Speaker 3: So we fight for our members day in and day out,
- 0:52Speaker 3: for their.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Benefits, for the vacation, for their time off, just to
- 0:56Speaker 2: be with their families, for their payer So we feel
- 0:59Speaker 2: great as the union. As part of gaming the unions,
- 1:01Speaker 2: you are fighting all the time to make sure.
- 1:03Speaker 3: You never lose anything.
- 1:04Speaker 2: But we are you know, we get satisfaction from that fight,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and you should have members all the awful what they do.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So that's what makes this special to us.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Be a part of the union TWU one hundred obviously
- 1:14Speaker 1: one of the largest unions for trendsit workers. How do
- 1:16Speaker 1: you keep tabs on all your members and make sure
- 1:18Speaker 1: they're taking care of.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Well, it's it's it's expiring to me and I love
- 1:22Speaker 2: being the president. It's a wonderful job. You elated when
- 1:26Speaker 2: you see people satisfied what they receive and and happy
- 1:30Speaker 2: that that they can go and enjoy the moment of
- 1:32Speaker 2: their life.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So it does gives.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You that that that feeling that that you can't buy
- 1:38Speaker 2: money when you see people are getting what's rightly deserving
- 1:42Speaker 2: to them.
- 1:43Speaker 1: All right, message to New Yorker stay who might face
- 1:45Speaker 1: one of your workers and you know, see them on
- 1:47Speaker 1: the subway as the buses, and you know what's your
- 1:50Speaker 1: measures them and treat them with respect, right, I mean
- 1:52Speaker 1: that's the number one.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, you have to treat our members respect, dignity
- 1:57Speaker 2: and making sure that are appreciated and understand. We have
- 2:01Speaker 2: difficult jobs. We're in danger every day, day in and
- 2:03Speaker 2: day out. We come here to work and go home
- 2:06Speaker 2: to our families and not with blood and our shu
- 2:08Speaker 2: shar or damage to our bodies. You want to come
- 2:10Speaker 2: in one piece and go in the same way to
- 2:12Speaker 2: go home and enjoy the time with our family.
- 2:13Speaker 1: One last thing you mentioned the story about the horrible stabbing.
- 2:16Speaker 1: When news like that happens, you're probably one of the
- 2:18Speaker 1: person know before and it's the headlines. Tell us what
- 2:21Speaker 1: that's like. When an instant does happen, how do you
- 2:23Speaker 1: jump into action for your members?
- 2:25Speaker 2: So you react because it's part of what's in your DNA,
- 2:29Speaker 2: So you react with concern, compassion, worry about the family,
- 2:33Speaker 2: worry about the member. Is the member okay, that's first
- 2:35Speaker 2: and foremost that we have to make sure our members okay,
- 2:38Speaker 2: So we go right into action. We already set up
- 2:40Speaker 2: to do that, and we go right to where the
- 2:42Speaker 2: scene is, the location, the hospital to make sure we
- 2:45Speaker 2: can give the member the full support, our family support.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I make sure our local manage member local one hundred
- 2:50Speaker 2: members that informed or what's happening, to make sure they're
- 2:53Speaker 2: in the crisis or they're in danger.
- 2:55Speaker 3: We make sure we get involved.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And then after we've finish you making sure we go
- 2:59Speaker 2: I make sure there's more safety before the costs put
- 3:01Speaker 2: into place.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And one last thing is I think we're all talking
- 3:03Speaker 1: about it from twenty years ago with the strike and whatnot.
- 3:05Speaker 1: How is the health and TWU today As we're saying.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Well, we're always will be and we try not to
- 3:14Speaker 2: be adversaries.
- 3:15Speaker 3: But the new chairman General Levers.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Sometimes does not respect the union and respect them the
- 3:22Speaker 2: workers for what they do and I don't want to
- 3:25Speaker 2: compensate and understand that we need our dignity and respect
- 3:30Speaker 2: and compensation as well as our life along jevity after retirement,
- 3:34Speaker 2: and that's where we have an adversary relationship.
- 3:37Speaker 3: He needs to understand where we are right now. So
- 3:39Speaker 3: we have a bit of a turmoil start of relationship.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Sure we're not fighting day and day out, but there
- 3:48Speaker 2: is animosity there. But we do work very well with
- 3:53Speaker 2: some of the managers and people in the field and
- 3:55Speaker 2: the locally.
- 3:56Speaker 3: We do get our work done and we sit at
- 3:58Speaker 3: the table and come to a green. It's like we
- 4:00Speaker 3: do with a.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Contract reach where you do produce a good a good contract,
- 4:04Speaker 2: a great contract, my members, great benefits, great secure and benefits,
- 4:07Speaker 2: even our retireing benefits. I secure. There's so much messing.
- 4:10Speaker 2: That's negative of greatime bevis. We secure to make sure
- 4:13Speaker 2: our retires will prosper.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Now and in the future forever. Through a simple statement
- 4:18Speaker 3: in the.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Contract, it says retirees health benefits will never be diminished
- 4:22Speaker 2: and we will continue to uphold the retirees as well
- 4:25Speaker 2: as as our active members.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Love that and finally, the hell emblem held such a
- 4:29Speaker 1: big part of it.
- 4:30Speaker 2: T W. Obviously, yes, our Denta plan just negotiated when
- 4:34Speaker 2: I met. Our benefits just rising and better and getting better,
- 4:38Speaker 2: and we strive to be at number one and continue
