- 2:06now it's time for us to finish the Quanesburg matter. So here's The
- 2:10Cranesburg manor Parts four and five from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dellar,
- 2:22missus Dean Sellers. Mister Deller, you may recall in meeting me this
- 2:24afternoon. Yes, you and Miss Crane's fiance. What's on your mind,
- 2:28mister Sellers. I'm downstairs in the hotel lobby. I'd like him up and
- 2:31talk to you if I could. Well, I was just on the point
- 2:34of leaving for the police station. Oh and you know about Betty. Yes,
- 2:38as a matter of fact, Chief Durham arrested her here in my room.
- 2:42What I said? She was arrested? What was she doing there?
- 2:46I had the gun that was used to murder Smiley Prewls. She wanted it
- 2:49back. What do you mean wanted it back? Why all the interest in
- 2:53this girl, mister Sellers, Is it just because you happen to be engaged
- 2:55to the woman she works for. Well, yes, you might say that,
- 3:00No, that's not at all. I've got to talk to you,
- 3:04all right. I'll meet you in the hotel bar in five minutes tonight and
- 3:15every weekday night. Bob Bailey in the Transcribed Adventures of the Man with the
- 3:19Action Packed Expenser coud America's Fabulous Freelance insurance Investigator who is truly Johnny Dell From
- 3:38Special Investigator Johnny Dolla, location, Cranesburg, Ohio to the home office Tri
- 3:44State Guarantee Company, Hartford, Connecticut. Assignment the Cranesburg matter expense account continued.
- 3:58It am ten two dollars seventy five cents for three brandies straight, one
- 4:02for me and two for Dean Sellers, new comer, a Cranesburg man about
- 4:06town and fiance of local socialite Melburgh Crane, the man who'd given her the
- 4:12pearl necklace that had been stolen from the safe in her home. It had
- 4:15supposedly been an engagement gift. Yet now Sellers was flipping his lid because Melburn's
- 4:20maid was in a jam. I remembered the scene in the Crane sunroom earlier
- 4:25in the afternoon and Dean Sellers remembered it too. When you walked up on
- 4:31the porch of the Crane estate and saw Betty and me and each other's arms,
- 4:34who were well, I thought the obvious natural. I figured as much.
- 4:41That's why I tried to cover up when I talked to you after one.
- 4:43You didn't have to, mister Sellers. I kind of wrote it off
- 4:46as just another bachelor having a fleeing before he settled down. Yeah, that's
- 4:50the way I looked at it at first. So so it didn't work out
- 4:56that way. How did it work? I finally realized I was in love
- 5:00with Betty. I see. I know it may sound corny, but it
- 5:03happens to be true. Does melbur Crane know about it? Oh? Well,
- 5:08at least I don't think she does. Well what did she think when
- 5:10you broke off your engagement? Or I haven't actually broken it off, I
- 5:14just postponded. I told her I was loaded with work and we'd have to
- 5:16wait a while, and she accepted that. She seemed to can't be sure
- 5:21about Melbourne. Oh, she's a cool and place of cards close. Most
- 5:26women are pretty cool when they suspect somebody is poaching on their own private preserve.
- 5:30She may have suspected, but I don't think she could have known anything
- 5:33for sure. Betty and I haven't always been as careless as we were this
- 5:36afternoon. What about the pearls? Were you intending to ask melbur to give
- 5:41them back? I didn't really know what to do, mister dollar. Twenty
- 5:44thousand dollars, there's a lot of money. On the other hand, I
- 5:46gave them to hers an engagement gift. It seemed kind of rough to ask
- 5:48for them back after breaking the engagement on her. Do you think she'd have
- 5:53returned them if you had asked her why? I suppose so. Of course,
- 5:58it didn't go that far. Before I could make up my mind what
- 6:00to do. The necklace was stolen, and this afternoon the man who claimed
- 6:03he stole it was murdered. Betty had nothing to do with that. You
- 6:09could be prejudiced, mister Sellers. I know her, I tell you how
- 6:12well well enough that I'm planning to marry her. That's what I mean,
- 6:15all right, But that doesn't mean I'm completely blind about her. Somebody's trying
- 6:19to frame that girl, who, for instance, I don't know and for
- 6:24what reason. I don't know that either but I do know one thing.
- 6:28When she says she knows nothing about it, she's telling the truth. I
- 6:31admire loyalty myself, mister Sellers. But there are a lot of facts against
- 6:35her. What facts, As you probably know, when I caught her with
- 6:40that gun out at the Crane place and took it away from her, she
- 6:43was trying to hide it in the incinerator, all right, what's that prove?
- 6:46She'd found it hidden in her room and she was trying to get rid
- 6:49of it. Well, a lot of people, if they were innocent,
- 6:51might have gone to the police with it. She got scared, that's all
- 6:54she She lost her head, now maybe, but that's not all that's against
- 6:59her. There are other things. It kind of patterned. What things that's
- 7:02safe at the greenhouse was opened during the one hour of the day that everybody
- 7:05was out somewhere, including Betty, if you remember so she claimed, and
- 7:11she probably was. I'm not saying she actually committed the theft. She couldn't
- 7:15have no one except Melbourne. Her uncle Phineas knows the combination to that.
- 7:18No, No, I think Smiley Prell actually did the job. An old
- 7:21fashioned safe like that would be a cinch for a pro of his talents,
- 7:25Then how do you figure Betty as being involved? Smiley had to know when
- 7:29to do it, and he had to get into the house. There were
- 7:31no locks forced, so he must have had a key. So of course
- 7:35the maid must have helped him, not necessarily, but it should has added
- 7:39up. And then Smiley Prell was murdered shot. Are you claiming she did
- 7:43that too? She was in possession of the gun that killed him, She
- 7:46was caught trying to get rid of it. But why why would she kill
- 7:49him if they were in on it together? Well, as you mentioned a
- 7:53couple of minutes ago, twenty thousand dollars, there's a lot of money.
- 7:57Maybe she wanted a whole necklace, not a for one. You don't know,
- 8:01that's all. No, No, you're right, But I do know
- 8:03what the facts seemed to point to, circumstantial evidence, nothing else true.
- 8:07And not only that, but it leaves you hanging right up in the air.
- 8:11What do you mean at pearl necklace? Now there's a fact for you
- 8:16to swallow. As I understand that the police haven't found that. That's right,
- 8:20It wasn't on Prell's body, and they didn't find it on Betty.
- 8:24If she killed him to get it. Where is it? I don't know.
- 8:26Well, she's a rain for this. The prosecuting attorney had better know,
- 8:30because without it he won't even have a case. I'm quite aware of
- 8:35that, mister Sellers. I left him standing there, belligerent and despondent,
- 8:43and drove across town to the police station. It was late by then in
- 8:48Cranesburg, hat pretty well folded up for the night. Well, that was
- 8:50fine with me. Fewer people I saw at the moment there better. I
- 8:56felt about as low as Sellers did, because I was starting to get a
- 9:00that this one might turn out messy, that no matter how it might end,
- 9:03some average decent people were bound to get hurt. It's like that sometimes
- 9:07when there's been a murder. Chief of Police Durham looked like he was expected.
- 9:13Sit down, mister teller. Thanks Chief, you are planning to spend
- 9:20the night here, No, I'm about to give up going home in a
- 9:22few minutes. I have been trying to get a statement from that girl.
- 9:26Any luck depends on how you mean it. She's willing to talk, all
- 9:30right, answers anything we ask her, but not the way you want her
- 9:33to answer. Is that in she won't budge an inch away from that same
- 9:35story. So she found the gun hid in the room, was scared because
- 9:39of the robbery last week, and tried to get rid of it. What
- 9:41about Smiley? Prowl claims the first she heard her him was a bulleting on
- 9:46the radio telling about his murder. That's when she got panicking, came to
- 9:48the hotel to get the gun back, and that's all she knows about it.
- 9:52So she claims he couldn't budget on it. Uh huh. You still
- 9:56haven't found any trace of the necklace? Nope, and with out an I
- 10:00doubt if the DA even if she will complain. Yeah, the same possibility
- 10:05was raised by someone else a few minutes ago. Who is that Dean Sellers,
- 10:07the fellow who gave the pearls to Miss Crane in the first place.
- 10:11How come he's getting into it? Well, it appears that love has reared
- 10:15its head. He's fronding in the mouth over this girl's arrest. Claim she's
- 10:18being framed. He could be right, mister Deller. I know it beats
- 10:24me. Man just don't know where to start with a miss like this one
- 10:28on his hands. I think I'm beginning to get some idea of where to
- 10:31start to How do you mean? Look, I've got a photograph here from
- 10:35the insurance files. Take a look. It's a photo of that necklace.
- 10:39See, I was wondering, Chief Durham, do you know of any jeweler
- 10:43here in Cranesburg who could make a duplicate of that a skillful limitation. No,
- 10:48I'm afraid you'll have to go into Cincinnata for that be the closest place
- 10:52at least. No. No, I don't want a duplicate made. I
- 10:54want to know whether somebody did go into Cincinnata for that purpose some four or
- 10:58five months ago. Well might take a while to find out. How much
- 11:01of a while? Not too long? A little luck, I could get
- 11:05Jim Markley in here. Markley, he's a local jeweler. He could take
- 11:07his photograph and give them a technical description over the phone. Done things like
- 11:13that for us before good. I might have something back for you by tomorrow
- 11:18afternoons. Soner the better. Yeah, Now, call Jim and ask him
- 11:22to come down. One other thing, Chief, Yeah, I've already phoned
- 11:24Hartford and started them to work on this. But we may get faster results
- 11:28if you move in on it. From this end. What is it you
- 11:31want? I want to trace her? Put on Dean Sellers. I see
- 11:33complete rundown. He's been here for eight months. What did he do before
- 11:39that? Where did he come from? Where'd he get the necklace? Who
- 11:41are his friends? What's his financial status? Anything you can get? Hey,
- 11:46I don't quite see what you're aiming at, mister Dollar. I'm not
- 11:50quite sure I do. It was after midnights and there was nothing more I
- 11:58could do until the next day except drive back to my hotel and sag in
- 12:01for the night. It was a good, sensible, conservative intention, and
- 12:05I managed to carry it to the point of taking off my tie and unbuttoning
- 12:09my shirt. The night manager had been pretty upset earlier when Betty Jackson came
- 12:15to my room and then left under arrest. I don't know what he thought
- 12:18when I had my second female visitor. Wow, good evening, miss Crane.
- 12:28Could I have a word with you, mister Dollar? Sure, come
- 12:33on in, Thank you. I guess it's a little indiscreet of me to
- 12:37come here like this. Oh well, after all, this is Cransbergen.
- 12:43When one has to maintain a sort of position in town. Well, I'm
- 12:48sure you understand. Oh, perfectly. How about a drink? Drink g
- 12:54ri I n k I even happen to have two clean glasses. I'm afraid
- 12:58you have the wrong impression, mister dollar. So it's good cognac, the
- 13:01best. In fact, I'll do a bit of harm to your position,
- 13:05make it a double if you will. May I ask you what has happened
- 13:09to cause you to throw discretion to the winds in this mad fashioned screen.
- 13:13I've felt it was something I ought to make clear to you concerning Dean,
- 13:18my fiance. I see here you go. Thank you. I believe you
- 13:24talked to him in this evening, didn't you? Briefly? Yes? Then
- 13:26you know, of course that he's taking up for this girl, trying to
- 13:31defend what she did. He did seem to have something like that in mind.
- 13:35I also think you may have observed a little tableau in the sun room
- 13:37when you came to the house this afternoon. Oh, I'll look my screen.
- 13:41I'm quite aware of the situation. I've observed a few of those scenes
- 13:46myself. I'm not a complete fool. You know. Why are you telling
- 13:52me? Allis the reason should be happeous? I'm dense. I can only
- 13:56understand what I actually hear. What I mean is it should be right parent
- 14:00that any alibi Dean might supply in a noble attempt to save this poor innocent
- 14:05girl should not be given too much credence because he might be prejudiced in her
- 14:11favor. Is there any doubt of it? Your glass is empty like another
- 14:15one. Oh, I don't believe I should thanks. Aren't you a little
- 14:22prejudice, miss Crane? Against the girl? Very likely under the circumstances.
- 14:28Am I to take it then? That you're on her side too? I
- 14:33am on the side of the Tri State Guarantee Company. And if you remember,
- 14:35there are twenty thousand dollars on a necklace that was stolen. I'm here
- 14:39to get it back. That's all. I think. I'd better go.
- 14:41I shouldn't have come here at all, whatever you think. Oh, by
- 14:46the way, has Uncle Phineas talked to you yet? We passed the time
- 14:50of day, that's all. We didn't have much time. The circumstances were
- 14:54a little unusual, and you've probably been spared some of his wilder imaginings.
- 14:58I wouldn't come that. What do you mean, Sit down, Miss Crane?
- 15:03Finish should drink? We haven't even started to talk Johnny Dollar. Good
- 15:24afternoon, sir. This is Phineas Crane. How are you, mister Crane?
- 15:30Highly perturbed, sir? Now what's bothering you? My generation used to
- 15:33call it conscience? I want to talk to you, mister Dollar. Well
- 15:37that's quite a change, isn't it, from your attitude last night. There
- 15:41have been a number of changes since last night. I can't bear the thought
- 15:45of that girl being in prisoned. She doesn't like it too much herself.
- 15:48All right, what's on your mind? I'd prefer now to discuss it over
- 15:52the telephone. Then you'll have to hold your horses. I'm waiting here for
- 15:54a call from Hartford and some information from the police. It might be the
- 15:58same information I'm ready to give you. I don't think so. You should
- 16:02have talked last night, mister Crane. I might have been willing then to
- 16:04make a deal of some kind, and now no deal. I can guess
- 16:08what happened to the necklace, And as far as the rest of it's concerned,
- 16:12I never make deals on murder. From Special Investigator Johnny Dollar, Location,
- 16:26Cranesburg, Ohio to the home office Tri State Guarantee Company, Hartford,
- 16:30Connecticut. Assignment the Cranesburg Meta expense account final page it am thirteen twenty eight
- 16:45dollars and sixty five cents phone calls to Cincinnati and Cleveland, and two prepaid
- 16:49calls to Hartford. The wheels were spinning now, and I spent most of
- 16:53the day just sitting back and waiting. Toward late afternoon, police chief had
- 16:57Durham phone, then Hartford, and then Durham again, and finally the three
- 17:02black bars dropped into place, and the payoff was jackpot. It am fourteen
- 17:11ten dollars and fifty cents second day's rental unhired car. I left the hotel
- 17:15just before dark and drove out through the north edge of town to the Crane
- 17:18estate. When I'd gone out there the day before, I'd been mostly guessing,
- 17:22playing hunches, But this time I knew pretty much what I wanted and
- 17:26just how to go about getting it. I thought the place deserted as I
- 17:30walked up the long arbor from the carriage house, But as I stepped out
- 17:33onto the terrace, I realized I was wrong. Mister Dollar, over here,
- 17:38in here, please hurry. Why all the secrecy, mister Crane.
- 17:45I wanted to talk to you alone. I rather doubted whether I would be
- 17:48able to if it were known that you were here, able to or permitted
- 17:52to. Well, that's what I meant, permitted. Who would stop you,
- 17:56mister Crane. But that, you might say is part of the story,
- 18:00the story I didn't tell you last night? Why not? Why didn't
- 18:03you tell me? I still thought then I might be able to save things,
- 18:07and you don't think so. Now I'm afraid not. It's too late.
- 18:11You know too much about it. Now. What were you doing in
- 18:14Swanley Pearl's room when I found you last night looking for the necklace? I
- 18:18told you that. Did you know then he'd been murdered? Oh? No,
- 18:21no, no. I wouldn't have had the nerve to go there if
- 18:22I had, and they wouldn't be of any use of going. That's when
- 18:26I realized it was all over, when I heard mister Prell had been killed.
- 18:33Dishonesty is one thing, but murder is something else. Again, you're
- 18:37so right, of course, it wasn't dishonest at first. It was all
- 18:41quite legal in the beginning, but not later. No, no, not,
- 18:44Lisa, I was against that, Not that I'm claiming any virtue for
- 18:48it. Probably it was just cowardice, mister Dower, be as easy on
- 18:56her as you can. I'm afraid it won't be in my hands. I
- 19:02suppose not. These things are always done so impersonally by institutions created for that
- 19:08purpose, rightfully, no doubt, But one occasionally wonders. There's something I
- 19:15wonder about sometimes, mister Crane, you refer to human greed. That's true.
- 19:22There's no real excuse for us, my niece and me. Reasons,
- 19:27yes, an inherited social position and way of life and declining wealth to support
- 19:34them. We're soft people, mister Dolli, and when life gets hard,
- 19:40we look for a soft way out, and that usually turns out to be
- 19:44the hard way. She'll find it, So for me it doesn't really matter
- 19:49anymore. How did you get on the smiley prowl? How did you know
- 19:52he was the one who robbed yourself? I was just guessing until you told
- 19:56me yesterday that he was a professional jewel thief and that he'd phoned the insurance
- 20:00company and claimed to have the necklace. Before that, when you were guessing,
- 20:04how did you know about him? What reason did you have to guess?
- 20:07I'd seen him hanging around the estate here twice the week before the robbery,
- 20:11and when I saw him again afterward talking to his contact. Eh,
- 20:18I guess you'd call it his employer fits the facts better, I suppose,
- 20:21so Anyway, I put two and two together and I followed proro, I
- 20:25found out where he lived. Did the employer know you've done this? Hardly
- 20:29all? I doubt that i'd be sitting here talking to you. Oh,
- 20:30not that it matters, since you probably know more of the details than I
- 20:33do. All right, Uncle Phineas, that's quite enough, Melbbo. That
- 20:40was a very quiet entrance to screen. It wasn't intentional. I didn't know
- 20:45you were here until I heard voices. Uncle Phineas, would you mind leaving
- 20:48us alone? It's too late, my dear. I think Tim was about
- 20:53to run out on all of us. Aided a great deal, I presume
- 20:56by some of your more senile imaginings, mister Dalla didn't really need any help.
- 21:02Please leave the two of you then, to what I anticipate, maybe
- 21:11rather storm. What were you doing pumping him, trying to make him say
- 21:18things you could twist later and use against him. No, it was more
- 21:22a matter of humoring him. I'd say, what's the matter Melbourne hangover from
- 21:26last night. I suppose you told him that too, that I came to
- 21:29your hotel to see you. No, didn't seem relevant. Somehow, I
- 21:32see where's your fiance? Sure? How many of you got? Mister Sellers
- 21:37is in the billiard room? Why what do you want with him? Oh?
- 21:42I need just a few more facts to fill out the picture. I
- 21:45think he can supply them. That's all. What facts? Why have you
- 21:48come here? Uncle Phineas invited me? What for? He said something about
- 21:52wanting to clear his conscience, his mind wanders. You know that you can't
- 21:56rely on anything, he says, I'm not. What about the girl they
- 21:57arrested? Your maid, Betty? Yes, Betty, if the police is
- 22:00satisfied she's guilty, why aren't you? Because I was hired to find a
- 22:03pearl necklace. It was stolen from your safe. It was insured for twenty
- 22:07thousand dollars, remember, and I haven't found it yet. Suppose I were
- 22:12to withdraw the insurance claim, it's a little too late. The police would
- 22:17want to know why. Why? Simply because I choose to Because I don't
- 22:22want any more fuss about it. It's not a loss. Actually, the
- 22:25necklace was a gift. Oh yes, I know, an engagement present of
- 22:29great sentimental value from that wealthy young philander, mister Dean Sellers, who incidentally
- 22:34is broken than you are. Yeah, got a complete rundown on him from
- 22:38Hartford late this afternoon. I don't believe it. It's quite a shock.
- 22:41Imagine you'd say anything just to help that girl get out of jail. Nah,
- 22:45you got me mixed up with Sellers, haven't you. He's the one
- 22:48who rallied to her defense, cheap little flat. I hope they convict her.
- 22:52Do you really believe she's the reason Sellers broke off your engagement. It
- 22:56wasn't broken off, it was only postponed. Well, it's like I said,
- 23:00mother, a lot of surprises. By the way, I'd like to
- 23:03search Betty's room if you don't mind. That's actually why I came out here.
- 23:07What that necklace? I was hired to recover it? Remember, But
- 23:11if you think she's innocent, and why do you you know what? I
- 23:14think? I haven't really said, have I? No, that's true,
- 23:21that's quite true. Lucky shot, mister Della. You got two on the
- 23:37break. Yeah, the result of a misspent youth. All right, four
- 23:41ball in the corner pocket expert. Huh ah, just lucky, like you
- 23:48said. Oh, by the way, mister Sella, is you are right
- 23:52about Betty? She isn't Gilly. She was being framed. I told you
- 23:56so. Yeah, she was just an innocent bystander, you might. Even
- 24:00though I did find the necklace a few minutes ago hidden in the room,
- 24:03you found it good. The cranes, though, aren't quite so innocent.
- 24:08The cranes nine ball the far side. What do you mean about the cranes.
- 24:17They were broke and they needed money to keep up a front. When
- 24:19you came to town and showed an interest in Melbourne, they figured you were
- 24:22the answer. Why are you're making Melbourne sound pretty cold blooded? You know?
- 24:26Oh, there was no love loss. You were playing the same game,
- 24:30sure, Sellers. That's the way you've always operated. Your last wife
- 24:33was a wealthy widow in Miami, Florida. You stayed with her for a
- 24:36year and a half and took her for one hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
- 24:40And all that was left of it when you came here was the twenty thousand
- 24:41dollars you had invested in the pearl necklace. That was your stake and that's
- 24:45the way you used it to convince Melburgh Crane. You weren't a fortune hunter.
- 24:49Twelve ball in the far corner, Dala. When did you get all
- 24:55this information? Police records? Then about a month ago you broke off your
- 24:57engagement with Melburn Crane. Why because I was in love with Betty. You
- 25:02were playing Betty for a pigeon. You backed out because you'd finally discovered that
- 25:06the Cranes were flat broke. I wasn't at the Melbourn's money. Sure you
- 25:08were, but you wanted to get out without losing your investment that necklace,
- 25:12so you brought in Sminy Prell to steal it from you. I never saw
- 25:15Prel my life. Uncle Phineas saw the two of you together a couple of
- 25:18days after the robbery. He's lying, So Prel pulled the robbery, and
- 25:23then he told you the pearls he'd stolen were phony. You accused him of
- 25:27double crossing you. He thought you were double crossing him. That result,
- 25:32he got sore and tried for a deal with the insurance company. That's why
- 25:34you killed him. Are you accusing me of murder? That's right? Sellers
- 25:41eight Paul. In the end, pocket. Who else Sully's Betty wasn't in
- 25:45it except that you tried to frame her. And both the cranes knew the
- 25:48pearls were imitation. You were the only one who didn't. They weren't imitations.
- 25:53I paid twenty thousand dollars for that necklace, not for this one.
- 25:57Melboura sold the necklace a month after you gave it to her. They've been
- 26:00living on the money. She had this copy made in Cincinnati. So the
- 26:06pearls you kill Smiley for and then planted upstairs in Betty's rama worth about two
- 26:10hundred bucks at the most. Something to think about, isn't it? That's
- 26:14right? Dollar? And so is this That's a losing game too. Selling
- 26:19will be for you if you try to make a move, shut it out
- 26:22with the police. Is that your answer? If it comes to that.
- 26:26At least I know how to use a gun. Smiley pro could tell you.
- 26:29Did you steal this one from Uncle Phineas too? Oh no, this
- 26:32one's my own. Put down that pool queue and get your hands up slow
- 26:37and easy. When I go out of here, Dean, what are you
- 26:41doing with that? Thanks for dollar? Nothing? It's going to make him
- 26:47feel very happy. For the next day. So a pool que makes a
- 26:49pretty handy weapon. Why what was he doing with that gun? Surprise number
- 26:55one? Your fiance is the lad who had your necklace stolen and then later
- 26:59killed this part indeed, Oh, that's probably the chief of police. He
- 27:03was coming out to meet me. You want to let him in. Murderer
- 27:06and I was going to marry you. Yeah, I guess murder is a
- 27:08lot worse than fraud. What do you mean you filed an insurance claim on
- 27:14a necklace you'd already sold. I imagine the company will want to prosecute.
- 27:18I didn't know what I was doing. You sure didn't. Anywhere along the
- 27:22line. You were marrying Dean Sellers for the money he didn't have, and
- 27:26at the same time he was trying to marry you for the money you didn't
- 27:30have. Too bad, it didn't work out. You two were made for
- 27:33each other. The police are getting impatient. Miss Crane expense account had him
- 27:42fifteen one hundred and eighty six dollars and twenty five cents incan Etels and Cranesberg
- 27:45in transportation back to Hartford. Expense account total four hundred and nine dollars and
- 27:51ten cents end of account and of report under separate cover, I am forwarding
- 27:56one necklace consisting of thirty eight pearls, all imitation, a maximate value two
- 28:00hundred dollars, along with my sincere condolences, Yours truly, Johnny Dollar.

- 28:51at same time in station for another exciting story of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar.
- 28:55Roy Rowan speaking welcome back, Well, this has gotta be one of my
- 29:56favorite of these five parts serials. I'm really well done and I love the
- 30:03conclusion. Just really sharp and dramatic and just satisfying payoff with Johnny confronting the
- 30:11killer over a game of pool. This episode was another one that Les Crutchfield
- 30:18had adapted from an earlier one shot script, in this case it was The
- 30:23Boerguard Matter, So I have to say I don't remember The Boerguard Matter being
- 30:30quite this good. This really was one of the best ones, and I
- 30:36really like the way this went, and I got surprised a little by the
- 30:40ending just because that suspect was kind of on the periphery. So overall,
- 30:45pretty nicely done. All right, Well, now on to some listener comments
- 30:49and feedback, and first we began, actually we'll start with a question from
- 30:55Chris regarding episode eleven eighty five. Love this. They did their homework.
- 31:02I knew it as soon as the wife said she kept the house closed up
- 31:06during the day to keep it cool. I which contemporary shows would take the
- 31:10time to get those kind of details right. Well, thanks for the comment.
- 31:15I will say that contemporary shows don't have the monopoly on getting things wrong.
- 31:23I have an email from a listener which I'll read next week, taking
- 31:29an issue with Manhunt's portrayal of violins but we'll read it during an actual man
- 31:36hunt segment. But there are details that programs get wrong, even good ones.
- 31:41One of the biggest ones I've heard is the Great Detective Show Monk.
- 31:49One of the big big mistakes there that is kind of glaring to a lot
- 31:56of people is Adrian monk rank when he was a police officer, is consistently
- 32:02described as being Detective Monk, but if he were on the San Francisco PD,
- 32:09he would be Inspector Monk. It's a really odd mistake that they made,
- 32:15but they made it consistently while the lineup. When it moved to television,
- 32:21it gave itself a setting in San Francisco, and when it did that,
- 32:25it incorporated the inspector ranks so that its rank teams would be accurate and
- 32:30would match reality. Unfortunately, sometimes writers are guilty of not wanting to take
- 32:37the time to research. I've probably been guilty of that a time or two,
- 32:40but I try to avoid it because it annoys reader. Thanks so much
- 32:44for the comment. Jerry comments, So glad to get you on my iPhone.
- 32:49I've been looking for something like this. Well, I'm glad you found
- 32:52us, and I'm glad you're enjoying the show. Finally, Rick emails in
- 32:55with a question, Hi just found your web page in tune in chan I
- 33:00made and he said he made a donation. What is the premium level you
- 33:04mentioned on the side. That's a good question, and I don't think I've
- 33:07talked about this in quite a while. With the app, we usually produce
- 33:13about three specials a month, and unless we have something special going on.
- 33:19For example, when we were playing episodes of Poi Rot, we did something
- 33:25a little different. But unless we have something special going on, each month
- 33:30we'll have three app extras that will go out to people who have the Android
- 33:37app or the Apple app, and these generally will feature our detective, the
- 33:43actors who play detectives playing some other role. We've been focusing on Gil Gordon
- 33:50just because he had so many really interesting roles, But most months we varied
- 33:58among among three different actors. But if you've got the if you've got the
- 34:08iPhone or the Android phone, you can just you know, view those on
- 34:12your app. But a lot of people don't have smartphones, so the premium
- 34:15site we give access to those programs before and after commentary, so it really
- 34:23explores a wide variety of different radio shows and you get to hear a lot
- 34:29of things. We do some science fiction, family dramas, quite a bit
- 34:37historical stories like Cavalcade of America. A lot of this is that i'll be
- 34:42honest, is kind of based on my own likes, what I think will
- 34:45be interesting and we'll share. But it just gives you a different look at
- 34:50a lot of the actors and perhaps some old time radio that you might not
- 34:53hunt for or find, but it's still really well done and worth a lesson.
- 35:00And that's the Premium Sign. And we also have some of the older
- 35:04app extras we did with Dragonet with a variety of different police procedural shows from
- 35:12one of the more obscure ones like Nick Harris to this is Your FBI.
- 35:16So some good stuff there, and that does remind me that during the listener
- 35:21support campaign, will not only send you access to our Premium Sign, we'll
- 35:25send you a free book of your choice from the four listed there, and
- 35:30we'll send you an additional thank you gift that's with a donation of twenty dollars
- 35:34or more. Among the options we have are some pretty interesting books. They've
- 35:39gone ahead and created collections of all the Poirot stories and all the Marple stories,
- 35:46so you can have one volume that contains every single Pui Ro or Marple
- 35:51story, two separate volumes. Will send you your choice of either volume if
- 35:59you live in the US and Canada. For a donation of seventy five dollars
- 36:02or more, and we have a lot of other items, you can take
- 36:06a look at the mall at support dot Great Detectives dot net. All right,
- 36:09well, that will do it for today. We will resume with yours
- 36:14truly Johnny Dollar on Monday, and Manhunt returns next Friday, and we'll be
- 36:20back for the lineup tomorrow. In the meantime, if you have a comment,
- 36:23send it to me Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net, follow us
- 36:28on Twitter at Radio Detectives, and become one of our friends on Facebook,
