- 0:00The deeper you go and the more consistent you are with your time with the Lord, your identity is in Him.
- 0:08Welcome to the iRefresh podcast where every conversation points to the life-changing power of God's living Word.
- 0:15Let's pursue God together one conversation at a time.
- 0:19Well, tonight we're going to have pretty much a little casual talk here, and we're going to be kind of gleaning from each other's field.
- 0:28And as the Lord leads us, we're going to share with you tonight what the Lord has placed on our heart.
- 0:35And, you know, we go through different seasons in life and different changes in life.
- 0:41But the beautiful thing about it is no matter what changes we go through or what seasons,
- 0:48that we go through, God is with us every step of the way.
- 0:53He never leaves us, nor does he forsake us.
- 0:58So I just tonight want to ask Brandy, what does the season of your life look like tonight or for you?
- 1:07What is the Lord ministering to your heart?
- 1:10What has he spoken expressly to you?
- 1:14For me, um,
- 1:16There is a sound in the spirit that we tend to ignore.
- 1:22It's not always loud or audible or crazy, but it's the beckoning of the Holy Spirit calling us into a deeper relationship with Him.
- 1:39And so for this season in my life, the past year, year and a half, is where He's had me.
- 1:47Just really seeking Him.
- 1:51earnestly and deeper than ever before.
- 1:56And that can be a lonely place.
- 1:58Yeah.
- 1:59Yeah, for sure.
- 2:01For sure.
- 2:02So now, why do you think?
- 2:05That place is so lonely at that time when he's beckoning and calling.
- 2:10And it's him that's calling you to him.
- 2:13So you're going to be entering into his presence right there alone with him.
- 2:19So why do you think it just...
- 2:21I think for me it was a different facet of him, if that makes sense.
- 2:28Yeah.
- 2:28Taking me a little deeper to a different facet.
- 2:32And oftentimes, you know, I felt like Samuel, you know, the Lord calling him, you know, and him not understanding quite or recognizing the voice because he hadn't heard from him before.
- 2:51So it was, for me, most of my life has been like that.
- 2:57And so digging into prayer and just a deeper level, you know, in my walk with him and in my prayer life with him, he's just been taking me deeper.
- 3:12And I feel like almost a separation during this time.
- 3:21from what was comfortable.
- 3:23Oh wow, wow.
- 3:26And that's kinda scary.
- 3:28Whenever we're called out of a place of comfortable, it can tend to be a little scary because we like comfortable.
- 3:35Anybody in here like comfortable?
- 3:37I know I like comfortable.
- 3:39And when we're called away from that place of comfort, it's challenging.
- 3:44It challenges us.
- 3:45And even as Brandy was saying, the beckoning, how God is calling her to him, and that is because he so desires closeness with us.
- 3:57You know, in James 4, 8, the word of God lets us know, draw nigh unto me.
- 4:03and I will draw nigh unto you, because he wants to be so close to us.
- 4:08And his word lets us know that he will never leave us, nor will he ever forsake us.
- 4:14And so because he'll never do that, he wants us to perceive and sense that closeness.
- 4:21Oh my.
- 4:22And when we see his closeness or experience his closeness, y'all, we experience his bigness.
- 4:28Wow.
- 4:29You know, I just flew in from Boston this week, and as I sat on the plane looking out of the window, there was another plane in the sky, and we know how big planes are, right?
- 4:40Well, it didn't look big.
- 4:42And when I looked on the ground, the houses looked like I could just squeeze them between my fingers.
- 4:48And I said, Lord,
- 4:50I know those houses are huge and I could not grab them up in my hand.
- 4:54And I know that plane is huge and I could not grab it up in my hand, but it looks so small.
- 5:00And the Lord began to minister to me.
- 5:03He said, it's because you're far away from it.
- 5:06And whenever you're distant and far away, whatever you're far away from looks small.
- 5:13And that's why God beckons us because he does not want us to be far away from him.
- 5:18And he will never be far away from us as long as we position ourselves and posture ourselves to be close to him.
- 5:26Because the more distant we get from God, the smaller he'll look to us and the bigger the problem will look.
- 5:34So draw nigh unto him and he will draw nigh unto you.
- 5:39And you will experience his presence.
- 5:41You will experience his bigness.
- 5:44And you will know that there is no separation between you and him.
- 5:51Isn't that good?
- 5:52That's how much he loves us.
- 5:54Think about that.
- 5:55The almighty sovereign God wants to be close to you.
- 5:58I just heard a song come up, but it's not spiritual, so I better not sing it.
- 6:02But the words say just to be close to you.
- 6:06And I'm going to leave it right there.
- 6:09He wants to be close to us, and He wants us to be close to Him.
- 6:12But we take the initiative, draw nigh unto me.
- 6:15It has to be with great intention.
- 6:17We have to be intentional about drawing nigh unto God.
- 6:20That's so good, because the intentionality of it, even when you don't feel like it,
- 6:26David commanded his soul to praise the Lord.
- 6:29And so in the mornings when I don't feel like it, I'm gonna command my soul.
- 6:34Yes.
- 6:35You're gonna praise the Lord.
- 6:36Yes.
- 6:37And once you get into that, get past the awkwardness of hearing yourself pray or the awkwardness of, you know, whatever, however you pray or, cause there is, there's an awkward spot to it, for me anyway.
- 6:56But you get pushed past that and you go in, you know, like it's hard to explain, just deeper with the Holy Spirit.
- 7:08The rivers of the living water just flow over you.
- 7:11And that's where the healing is.
- 7:12That's where your deliverance is.
- 7:15You know, that's where, you know, the blueprints of life come is with that, you know, personal relationship.
- 7:22You don't need somebody to lay hands on you when you're with the Father.
- 7:25Mm-hmm.
- 7:26You don't need that deliverance minister when you're with the Father.
- 7:30There's a season, a place for all that.
- 7:33But he's your healer.
- 7:34He's your El Roy.
- 7:36He sees you.
- 7:37And so when you build that foundation, that relationship with him, he's just the oil...
- 7:45the olive tree just yeah that's so good he sees us how many of you all know that he sees you his eyes are up on you he's the l roy or the l roy e the god who sees so no matter what we experience
- 8:02He sees and he knows.
- 8:05And again, he's right there with us.
- 8:06And, you know, in Jeremiah 29, 11, when it talks about the plans that God has for us, how they're good plans.
- 8:13And when Jeremiah prophesied that to the Israelites.
- 8:19You know, they kind of did not want to hear what Jeremiah had to say because there was another prophet that just came and told them that they were going to be released from captivity.
- 8:28But Jeremiah said, oh, no, you're going to be here longer.
- 8:31You're going to be here for 70 years.
- 8:33And God said, look, so...
- 8:35You need to go ahead and build some houses.
- 8:37You need to go ahead and have some babies.
- 8:38You need to go ahead and do whatever you would do if you were not in captivity.
- 8:42Live like you would live if you were not in captivity right here in this place.
- 8:47Because I'm right here in this place with you.
- 8:50And my plan that I have for you is good.
- 8:52Whether it's in captivity or out of captivity.
- 8:55So get married.
- 8:56Get some jobs.
- 8:57Build some houses.
- 8:58Have some babies.
- 8:59Because the plan I have for you is good.
- 9:05where it looks like it's not good.
- 9:08We have to remember that God is good and that God, in Romans 8, 28, it lets us know and we know that all things work together for the good to those of us who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.
- 9:26So let me tell you something.
- 9:28When you love the Lord and you know God,
- 9:32that you are called according to his purpose, you have to expect that no matter what, and no matter what's transpiring, it will work for your good.
- 9:45Because God, the word says it.
- 9:48So expect the good regardless.
- 9:52to what's transpiring in your life.
- 9:54And this little tidbit right here I wanna leave with you because it's just so beautiful to me because there was a time in my life when I was having a moment and it was rough.
- 10:08And I was like, Lord, if you wanna come today, you can come and get me.
- 10:14That's how rough it was.
- 10:16But God is so beautiful.
- 10:19And he, because he never leaves us, because he never forsakes us, because he wants us to know that I see you right in the midst of what you're going through.
- 10:32So he said something to me that I never will forget.
- 10:35And this was about almost 20 years ago when he told me this.
- 10:39And he said, my daughter,
- 10:42I want you in the midst of the hardship, in the midst of the trial, in the midst of the opposition, in the midst of the adversity.
- 10:53He said, I want you to pay attention to the attention I'm paying to you.
- 11:01And that's what we have to do regardless.
- 11:05Pay attention to him because he's paying attention to us.
- 11:11Have you ever received a gift?
- 11:13Has anybody in here ever received a present, a gift?
- 11:17I have.
- 11:18Have you ever received a gift you don't like?
- 11:20Don't say it.
- 11:22But you received gifts that you like, right?
- 11:25So when I look at present my body a living sacrifice, I look at it as me presenting.
- 11:34Present, present my body.
- 11:36Give my body to the Lord as a gift.
- 11:40For him to open and do with it as he pleases.
- 11:43Because while he's beckoning, right?
- 11:45He's calling me.
- 11:46He's calling you.
- 11:47He's calling us.
- 11:49And as we present our bodies as a gift, we get to surrender it, submit it, yield it, subject it to God, and allow him to do, yeah.
- 11:59Go ahead.
- 11:59Surrender.
- 12:01It's a daily thing.
- 12:03Surrendering your plans, your will,
- 12:06all for His will.
- 12:08And as you do that, your identity, you become more comfortable in who you are in Christ as a daughter of the King.
- 12:16And we're so conditioned on how we grew up or how we were treated in the past that it's hard for us to accept the unconditional love.
- 12:31But the deeper you go and the more consistent you are with your time with the Lord, your identity is in Him.
- 12:40And you start to realize that and see that.
- 12:43And then slowly but surely you're able to accept that unconditional love.
- 12:49But, you know, it takes consistency.
- 12:52It takes, you know...
- 12:54Surrender, daily surrender, not my will, Lord, but your will.
- 13:00The great exchange, exchanging my will for his.
- 13:04Wow.
- 13:05Just think about that for a moment.
- 13:08Really think about that.
- 13:11How differently would our lives look if we literally did that great exchange?
- 13:21If we gave up our will and took on his will, we surrender our will to him.
- 13:28Picture your life, picture yourself going all in for God, surrendering everything unto him.
- 13:39Your will, your desires, and just giving it over to him and letting him have free reign in your life.
- 13:49Oh my gosh.
- 13:51If we really let the Lord have free reign in our life, if every Christian in the world let the Lord have free reign in their life, how different would our world even look?
- 14:02God, you just do whatever you want to do in me and through me in this world that I'm in but not of.
- 14:11I...
- 14:13Selah.
- 14:15Yeah.
- 14:15Think about that.
- 14:17You know, and I was thinking again about that beckoning, Brandy, because you were saying, what did you say about how we, sometimes we don't hear it or we don't listen to it.
- 14:30Ignore it sometimes.
- 14:30We ignore it.
- 14:31I mean, there's times I've ignored it.
- 14:36I'm going to be real.
- 14:37Yeah, but, yeah.
- 14:39But, you know, it's,
- 14:42it's when you ignore it, where's your focus at?
- 14:45Where's your priority at?
- 14:47What altar did you build?
- 14:49Is it an altar to the Lord?
- 14:50Oh, my word.
- 14:51Or is it altar to self, to ministry, to work, kids?
- 14:56Yeah.
- 14:57What you consume the most will draw you.
- 15:01Mm-hmm.
- 15:03I want to consume him.
- 15:04You know, I want to know him.
- 15:07I want him to know me.
- 15:09I want to be that wise virgin.
- 15:11That's good.
- 15:12You know, I don't want to be an unwise virgin wandering around, you know.
- 15:16Yeah.
- 15:16Still holding a lamp that's not lit.
- 15:19Mm-hmm.
- 15:20But I'm here, Lord, you know.
- 15:21Yeah.
- 15:22I read my devotional, you know, but that's not enough.
- 15:27He's calling us to go deeper in His Word, to know Him, for us to know Him and Him to know us.
- 15:36It's, you know, getting in there daily, memorizing Scripture, which...
- 15:42I'm still doing.
- 15:43Yeah.
- 15:44Yeah.
- 15:45It's, it's just, it's a beautiful thing to, to just dive deep in, let him work within you from the inside out.
- 15:55There's times where it's painful.
- 15:58There's times where it's sweet.
- 15:59There's times where it's, you know, great.
- 16:01It's just, it's just,
- 16:05Like it says, we're the clay.
- 16:07He's the, what is the scripture?
- 16:10Yes.
- 16:11It's just letting him, sorry, do that.
- 16:17Because we're so inclined, it goes back to conditioning, I'm in control.
- 16:24You know, you can have this part of me, but not over here.
- 16:28Not that part, yeah.
- 16:29You know, finances.
- 16:31Lord, I'm tied, but I want to just control this over here.
- 16:35We can't.
- 16:36That's right.
- 16:37You know, and it's time to take the word for what it says and not sugarcoat it, not take things out of context, which it's easy to do for some.
- 16:49It's just getting back to the basics.
- 16:51Simple.
- 16:52Yeah, it really is.
- 16:54Getting back to the basics.
- 16:56I tell you what, and that reminds me, getting back to the basics.
- 16:59I am a U.S. Army veteran, and when you enter into the military, after you go through the processing center and get assigned to a company,
- 17:14Then you go through what's called either boot camp or basic training.
- 17:19And basic training lays the foundation for what you will be doing in the military, basically.
- 17:28So you're building up, and as you progress through the years and get promotions and excel in the military, you're building up on that foundation of basic training, but you always have to refer back to it
- 17:42before even moving forward.
- 17:44So thinking about the Lord, we always have to refer back to him, going back to the basic, returning to our first love.
- 17:53Because if we find ourselves getting distant and we find ourselves feeling...
- 17:59what, maybe rejected or ignored.
- 18:03It's not a good feeling to feel ignored.
- 18:05So think about, I know God is supernatural and sovereign and all that.
- 18:09He doesn't, he's not in human emotions like we are, but just imagine the almighty
- 18:17Randy said, given this part of our lives to the Lord and not that part, but Jesus gave it all, his whole self.
- 18:24He took on a full body wound for us in order that we will be set free and delivered from sin.
- 18:34He gave him his whole self.
- 18:35He gave his whole self.
- 18:37So we are to give our whole self because Jesus is our prime example.
- 18:42He's the one that paved the way for the lifestyle that we are to live.
- 18:48He lived it here on earth as an example to us as to how we should live for God.
- 18:54How many of us?
- 18:56You don't have to raise your hand.
- 18:57You don't even have to shake your head.
- 18:59You can just answer on the inside of you.
- 19:01But how many of us are actually doing?
- 19:03How many of us are trekking Jesus?
- 19:06Patterning our life after his lifestyle.
- 19:09Living like Jesus.
- 19:12Living like Jesus.
- 19:17And in order to live like Jesus, we have to know how Jesus lived.
- 19:22In order to know how Jesus lived, we have to delve into the word and study his life.
- 19:28And then once we study his life and become knowledgeable of how he lives, then now we allow this to become applicable to life.
- 19:37And we apply his word to our life.
- 19:40Not having a form of godliness and denying the power thereof or just speaking the word but not doing it.
- 19:46James tells us about that.
- 19:48Be doers of the word and not hearers only or else you're going to be deceiving yourself.
- 19:59Nobody wants to be deceived.
- 20:01So it's really vital to life and important to us that when we hear the Lord beckoning, calling, come away with me.
- 20:12Because sometimes we're too busy.
- 20:14And, you know, sometimes I wonder.
- 20:16I had this thought this morning.
- 20:18Because, you know, we do a lot.
- 20:20We're born-again believers.
- 20:22Some of us are in ministry.
- 20:24We have prayer groups.
- 20:26We have Bible studies.
- 20:28We have time at our local assembly church.
- 20:31We feed the hungry.
- 20:32We do this and that.
- 20:34And it's all in the name of Jesus.
- 20:37But I wonder sometime in our activity, is God saying, what about me?
- 20:43Yeah.
- 20:46Out of all that you're doing, that you say that you're doing for me, while I'm beckoning you to just come and spend some time, just spend some quality time with me while you're here, there, and everywhere.
- 20:58What about me?
- 21:01Can you come away with me?
- 21:04Can you answer when I call?
- 21:07When I'm beckoning, will you come?
- 21:10Will you enter into my presence?
- 21:13For there is fullness of joy.
- 21:16There is no way that we can enter into God's presence for real, for real.
- 21:24And come out the same.
- 21:25Yeah.
- 21:27100%.
- 21:27Because in that presence where there's fullness of joy, there's communication, revelation, transformation, reconciliation, all kind of shuns.
- 21:42So when we just enter into God's presence.
- 21:45So I'm gonna put a challenge out here for us.
- 21:50Because the beautiful thing about the Lord is we can enter into his presence anywhere.
- 21:56Praise God, amen.
- 21:58We just enter in.
- 22:01So I'm gonna challenge us that on some of our hardest, most challenging days,
- 22:10When we feel like, what is this all about?
- 22:13Just take that moment right there and just draw into God.
- 22:18Just enter into his presence.
- 22:21And sup with him.
- 22:24Spend time with him.
- 22:27Soak in his presence.
- 22:31Be saturated with his presence.
- 22:34And sometimes we don't have to say anything because sometimes we do talk a little too much.
- 22:39And we can listen.
- 22:40It'll pay to just listen sometimes when we enter in so the Lord can just reveal his heart to us.
- 22:49Do we ever ask God what's on his heart?
- 22:56Do we ever take time to say, Lord, what's on your mind?
- 22:58What's on your mind?
- 23:03What would you like?
- 23:05What do you want today, Lord?
- 23:07What can I do for you today, Lord?
- 23:12Where can I go for you today, Lord?
- 23:20I'm going to put another challenge out there.
- 23:21Are you all up for that challenge?
- 23:22The one I just gave.
- 23:23Are you all up for that challenge?
- 23:26Okay, so here comes another one.
- 23:29This one is a doozy.
- 23:33I'm going to challenge us to, for the next 30 days, this is a big one, spend an hour with God.
- 23:43One hour.
- 23:44Remember, he asked his disciples, will you not tarry?
- 23:47How long did he say, Brandy?
- 23:48One hour.
- 23:49One hour.
- 23:49And we know what happened there.
- 23:52So I'm asking us tonight.
- 23:53With no distractions.
- 23:56Exactly.
- 23:56No distractions.
- 23:57Just him.
- 24:00And us.
- 24:01Well, it'll be y'all individually with him.
- 24:03Don't come to my house.
- 24:04No, I'm just kidding.
- 24:05But it's just our individual selves.
- 24:09Y'all, seriously.
- 24:10And just take an hour.
- 24:14Because if for one instant anybody in her think that they're too busy to spend one hour out of 24 hours with God,
- 24:31something's probably off kilter.
- 24:33But then I would have to give up my scrolling on my social media or my Facebook.
- 24:39I don't know.
- 24:40Who gave you your finger to scroll in the first place?
- 24:42Right?
- 24:44So when you spend your time with the Lord, part of the challenge, leave yourself somewhere else.
- 24:51Get your paper Bible out instead.
- 24:56Because then you won't be inclined to check, okay, what time is it?
- 24:59Am I almost done praying?
- 25:02That's so true.
- 25:03Yeah.
- 25:05And it's so refreshing.
- 25:07Yeah.
- 25:08And you get lost in it.
- 25:09Once you get into that routine and he sees how faithful you are and your persistence towards him, you desire that more and more.
- 25:22And then you start becoming faithful.
- 25:27like he created you to be.
- 25:29You wanna be more like him, you know?
- 25:31Yeah, seriously.
- 25:34Even the people that you once hung out with, you don't hang out with anymore.
- 25:38Like, no, I can't go clubbing.
- 25:41That's not who I am anymore.
- 25:43Not that I was a clubbing girl anyway, that wasn't me.
- 25:46Well, I sure enough was, but.
- 25:48We're not going to talk about that.
- 25:50But you're alive.
- 25:51You see the patterns in your life start changing.
- 25:53I don't have time for that.
- 25:55I don't, you know.
- 25:56I have a date with the Lord at 5 o'clock every morning.
- 26:00That is my time with the Lord.
- 26:03Set your alarm.
- 26:04Set a time.
- 26:05Whatever works for you.
- 26:07But I encourage you to do it first thing in the morning.
- 26:10I jotted this down.
- 26:12And I put God is my schedule.
- 26:16And...
- 26:18I put, we shouldn't center God around our stuff, but allow our stuff to be centered around God.
- 26:26So we do everything that we believe is important or needed or we're obligated to do, and then...
- 26:35Maybe there's God or maybe we're too tired because we're worn out from all that activity.
- 26:41And then we don't spend quality time with him.
- 26:46And he's the most important person in our lives.
- 26:50He's the one that can supply every need.
- 26:53He's the one that will never leave us nor forsake us.
- 26:57He's the one...
- 26:58That's a constant in our lives.
- 27:01And he's consistent always.
- 27:04And we need him.
- 27:07We need him.
- 27:08And as Brandy was saying, the more we spend time with God, the more we're going to want to spend time with God.
- 27:14Because stuff's going to start just falling away.
- 27:17falling off those things that we thought we needed or thought we desired man we're not going to even have an interest in those things because guess what we see how beautiful God is how refreshing and freeing and loving oh my goodness that time with God is and it's like the presence is so thick it becomes so tangible and
- 27:45when we enter into God's presence and just allow him to be God in our lives.
- 27:51And he surrounds us with that presence.
- 27:53And I was thinking about that beckoning and drawing nigh to God.
- 27:57So Brandy, draw nigh to me.
- 28:02Come on, get a little closer.
- 28:03I have to do that.
- 28:05Okay, no, just come on, draw a night.
- 28:06So she's drawing a night to me.
- 28:08She's me, and here I am.
- 28:09I'm drawing a night to her.
- 28:11So I'm getting close.
- 28:13So I picture it this way.
- 28:17You drew nigh to me.
- 28:18I'm drawing nigh to God.
- 28:19He draws nigh to me.
- 28:21And there is a level of intimacy there.
- 28:24There is a level of where he can communicate to me in very close proximity and allow me to know even hidden things, mysterious things, secret things, and he can whisper in my ear.
- 28:37Remember you were talking about sometimes we ignore the beckoning, but remember Elijah when he was...
- 28:44on the mountain and the wind and all that, the fire and all that came, but it wasn't God.
- 28:50And he came with that still, small voice, the whisper.
- 28:54And in order to hear a whisper, you have to be close.
- 28:59So when we draw nigh to God and he draws nigh to us, I believe we can feel him or hear him whispering things to us, intimate details about our lives, maybe our families, maybe situations in this present day we're living in.
- 29:19Because we've taken time out to listen.
- 29:22Because we become intentional to listen to God.
- 29:28And sometimes we say, I don't know God's voice.
- 29:31I can't hear from God.
- 29:32God doesn't speak to me.
- 29:34God speaks and he talks.
- 29:37But sometimes we're not listening because we what?
- 29:40Ignore.
- 29:42Or you don't know his voice yet.
- 29:46Because.
- 29:46Just like Samuel.
- 29:47Yeah.
- 29:48You haven't heard it yet.
- 29:49You haven't taken the time or you're still learning to listen.
- 29:55Mm-hmm.
- 29:56To quiet your mind and listen.
- 29:58So.
- 29:59Yeah.
- 29:59Thank you for the challenge.
- 30:01I'm going to take her up on that.
- 30:02Who's going to take that challenge?
- 30:04Spending one hour with God for the next 30 days.
- 30:07If this episode encouraged you, don't let it end here.
- 30:10Open your Bible, seek God's heart, and discover the life-changing power of His promises for yourself.
- 30:17Until next time, keep pursuing the God who changes everything.
