- 0:20SPEAKER_02: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Tortured Fans Department Podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Sean Boyle, and joining me today is a founding father of the podcast.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: It is Mr.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: Michael Collins.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: MC, how are you?
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Boyle, thank you uh once again for having me on your show.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Uh could not be happier, as always, to be here with you.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Talk some ball, talk, talk some uh current events.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Uh let's have a day.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a lot on the docket.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: Obviously, we're still in the heat of March Madness, so that'll be the center of our attention, but there's a lot going on at the moment.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: We will get to all of it quickly.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: I wanted to just point out that our baseball game draft is now live wherever you get your podcast.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: So go and check that out.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: I thought you had a strong performance, MC.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: How do you think your draft went?
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Well, I got absolutely hosed in the in the slot that I got.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: It's a five-round draft, and I uh was the fifth pick, so I was naturally at a disadvantage from the jump.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Uh now, having said that, I did get my one-one beverage in the baseball bat beer.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Um and cheesesteak, peanuts.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: So I I feel happy with uh with how my team is on the court.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Really, really can't emphasize enough just how much of a scumbag move it was to take my beverage just in a different vehicle, which is what you did with taking a beer out of a baseball bat.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: But it was innovative, it was creative, so I tip my cap.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: We're gonna talk a lot about the college basketball tournament.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: March Madness is here, it is in full swing.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: My opening question to you is Is your bracket still intact?
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Was it busted?
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: How are the vibes heading into the second weekend?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, not fully busted.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, very it's very mid, as the kids would say these days, um, which actually for me is pretty solid.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: I'm normally done by day one, basically.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Um, I have uh I think in the Torture Fans, uh, I'm sitting basically directly in the middle of the pack.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: My maximum available points is on the higher end because I still have uh most of my dogs available still.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Um so if I win out, then I might be landing amongst the stars, but I don't expect that to happen.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I looked at one point on Sunday, and you were in the top five, and then I think some poor results throughout the rest of the day Sunday, or some better results for other people kind of did some moving and shaking.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: I'm hanging in there as well.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: As you mentioned, I'm usually in the same boat where it's just a complete disaster after day one or day two.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Happy to avoid that, happy to move on with at least my final four intact going into the second weekend.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: We're gonna do a quick recap of the opening weekend in addition to giving our expectations for the weekend ahead.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: We're gonna go region by region, just as we did for the preview podcast.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: We will start in the East region, the isn't she lovely region, as I so aptly named it, because boy, what a beautiful region this is, full of blue bloods.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: What stood out to you from the first two rounds in the East?
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Uh our number one overall seed, uh, the Duke Blue Devils, they have looked quite gettable, if I do say so.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Jerry McNamara, our new uh Syracuse coach and Siena, he nearly pulled it off without making a single sub.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: I think they subbed somebody in to take a foul, like with like 20 seconds left, but that was the only substitution that they that CM gave, which was incredible.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Uh they were dominant, they dominated the first half, and then um, you know, Duke remembered that they have uh NBA athletes on their on their side.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And then, you know, Duke kind of played around with uh TCU a little bit there too.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: So they're very gettable.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: They might be getting a little healthier though, which is of course dangerous as we saw through the course of the year.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Um and then just one little shout out.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: UConn, of course, has has looked amazing.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: First round game, Terrace Reed had 31 points and 27 rebounds against Furman, which is just it sounds ridiculous to even say out loud.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Can I give you a hand up?
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: I fact checked you when I saw you put that in the sheet because I didn't know that that happened.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: So I was like, maybe he just looked at the minutes and the points or something, and then I saw you were right, and I was like, oh my god, what a performance.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was a true Men Amongst Boys situation.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Jeez, I didn't catch much of that one.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: It was on, but it was as I was drifting into a sleep on Friday night, so that one missed a little bit of my radar.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: As for Duke, I think you said it pretty well.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: They are getting healthier, and I think they'll probably play a bit better this weekend, but Sienna really had them shaken to their core in the second half of that game.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: They Sienna had about five or six shots that hit every part of the rim and wouldn't go down in the second half, which was unfortunate for Jerry Mack.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Also, you mentioned the TCU game.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: Obviously, the final score might be a bit misleading in that one.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: TCU was in it in the second half, and then there was a pretty bad miss goaltending call, which led to a Jamie Dixon technical, just a compound mistake from the referee.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Really tough there.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: You hate to see that.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: It did swing the momentum of the game, but then Duke once again remembered that they had NBA players on their side.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: The other thing I wanted to talk about with Siena, you said they didn't make a sub.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: They truly there was no horses in the back for Siena.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: That that was our team is on the court situation, and there was nowhere to turn.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: I think Jerry would have loved to make a sub in the second half.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Some of those guys were gassed trying to get back on defense, and he was just looking at the bench, like, I don't think I got anybody that could play.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Like a lot of people were like, Oh my gosh, how do you not make a sub if you're Siena?
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm sure he would have loved to make a sub.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: We're running out of dogs.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't think it was a he didn't want to situation.
- 6:21SPEAKER_02: I think it was he could not.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: For me, the only other thing to talk about in the East Region was not a single upset in this region.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: I guess if you count TCU over Ohio State, that was a small upset, but nothing of note.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: We had some great round two matchups because of that.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: We had St.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: John's edging out Kansas in not a sight for sore eyes.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, this game was ugly.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: It was a dogfight, it was men on men, patino vself, just who can survive that one?
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: And St.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: John's ended up doing so.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: And then also we had the Battle of the Mad Men, the Battle of the Bastards down in Philadelphia with McCronin and uh Danny Hurley.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: That was, of course, interesting and fireworks on the sidelines from both of those two guys.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh, two bad guys, if you ask me.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I think I have to officially, as an official, I have to uh put my hat in uh with the stripes and be 100% out on both Danny Hurley and Mick Cronin.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Uh some bad behavior from from the mixter, just clapping in the ref's face after this call.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: And then he said, What did I do?
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: I didn't say anything.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he just took five big smacks right in his mouth.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: Um and Hurley, too.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: This guy, he's like the American psycho.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: He there's not a single call that he agrees with.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Not one.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Good, bad, or ugly, he's got something to say about it.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: He's talking to the ref each trip down the court.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, but that the uh, like you said, St.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: John's and and Kansas, this despite a little bit of ugly play, it was an absolute banger down at the end.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: A little bit of a buzzer beater, can't remember the guy's name.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Uh Dylan Darling.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: His first bait bucket, first bait bucket of the game.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so no, that was a sick ending.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Um can't Bill Self did some weird things with fouling at the end.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: I don't didn't quite totally understand that, but yeah, uh, yeah.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: I thought it was a good idea on the surface, but I don't think they executed it particularly well.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: The idea was to prevent them from crossing half court so that they had to keep inbounding it from the baseline or from their own half, which I thought was smart, but I think they just kind of misplayed the clock a little bit and they left too much time because they basically were able to get the ball at half court and drive in a straight line to the rim for a game-winning layup.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: So I think that was pretty poor execution.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: I get what he was trying to do, but yeah, not his best effort.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Darren Peterson's career at Kansas comes to an end.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: That's a forgettable one, I would say, even though he he had a pretty decent effort.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: I would I don't think anybody can question his effort at least in the tournament.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I I think he realized in the second half that he sort of had to put the entire team on his back, and he he did do that for a few possessions there, uh, but you know, ultimately ran out of gas.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: St.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: John's, uh, they're they are a bit of a wagon, I'd say.
- 9:16SPEAKER_02: They are a group of hungry dogs, and I think that's a good transition to talk about the games in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight in Washington, D.C.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: on Friday night.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: The table is set for what could be a night for the ages in DC.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: We've got Michigan State Yukon and then Duke St.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: John's.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: It's big brands, it's big time coaches, it is big time basketball.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: How do you see this weekend going in our nation's cap?
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: I expressed some some distrust of Duke, and I think I'm gonna double down on that.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go ahead and have the Johnnies pull it off the upset uh over Duke, Slick Rick Petino to the Elite Eight, where he'll uh he'll meet up.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Originally, I was hoping, thinking uh that it would be Sparty, but what I've seen from Yukon, I I have to switch sides, and uh Yukon is just stupid.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: There Yukon is like like you watch, go back and watch that UCLA game.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: UCLA was neck and neck with them the whole way and lost by 20.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: They're they're just an absolute boa constrictor.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: They strangle you to death, they get a couple stops, hit a couple threes, and then all of a sudden you're down by 15.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and honestly, Alex Caravan looks like a man possessed.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: He uh does not want his college career to end.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: He at one point grabbed the freshman almost by the neck and said, like, hey, lock the fuck in because you turned it over and you're fucking with my career.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: So that was cool to see.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: I don't love betting against him, but I cannot, in good conscience, pick against Tom Izzo in this month.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Maybe in April.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Maybe in April, but right now I'm going Izzo.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: And I I want to take St.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: John's.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: My heart will be with the Johnnies, but I do think Duke is going to play better and win.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: When you just look at it on paper, it feels like St.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: John's is maximizing their effort and getting the most out of a group of hungry dogs.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: But on a talent level, I just think Duke has a lot more in reserves than St.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: John's does.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: I'm just hoping for two good games.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: I think we'll get two good games.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: So I'm going the exact opposite of you.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: I'm going Sparty, Duke, and I'm going to take Sparty then to beat Duke because I do agree Duke does not look to be that true number one overall seed at this moment.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna go ahead and and put UConn in the final four here, which is a shame we have to watch that clown parade up and down the sidelines for three more games.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, but yeah, no, you said we'll you're hoping for two good games.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: I think we might be guaranteed three good, three great games uh to play out the rest of this region here.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Which is like, you know, you you uh I always want to root for upsets, but we're reaping the benefits of a no upset region there.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: That's always the other side of it, and I'm always with you.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: It's like upsetting when you don't have a couple 12 seeds making a run into the second weekend, but then you get games like this, and you're like, well, that's fine.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: I don't need high point.
- 12:12unknown: Exactly.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the South region, which I dubbed the better than revenge region.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: I was expecting a Houston versus Florida showdown to get to the final four.
- 12:24SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: But Ben McCollum and the Iowa Hawkeyes threw a big wrench in that.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: What were your thoughts on the opening two rounds in this region?
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, I mean, Iowa absolutely dominated Florida in that game.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: And if you're if you're a dummy like me sitting at home watching, you think every every time Florida gets a stop, you're like, okay, now here it goes.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Florida's gonna take over.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: And Iowa just handled it like professionals.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: They they there was a lot of pressure um coming from Florida on the defensive end that they kind of had no problem with, knocked down huge shots, like the game winner, three from the corner.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: So yeah, Iowa amazing.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Um, outside of that Iowa upset, the story to me has been Nebraska, Nebraska ball, their first tournament win in program history, subsequently, first Sweet 16 appearance in program history.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: The Nebraska Vanderbilt game was an absolute banger.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Yes, maybe the best game of the tournament so far.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: Uh Vanderbilt probably should have won.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: I still don't understand how that half court shot didn't go in.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh the guy Sanford from Nebraska, total sniper.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: He that guy's a driller.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: You don't want to leave him open ever.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Fred Hoyberg, absolute beast.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, his son Sam run around like a little muddy mouse out there, got an offensive rebound put back for the game winner against Vandy.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: So uh Nebraska has been an absolute treat to watch, as we all expected, really.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: And let me be the first to tip my cap to you and say you are a day one this season, Nebraska ball guy.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: You came on this very program and said, I'm planting my flag with the Cornhuskers.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: And you did it at a time when it wasn't popular to do so.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: They were leaking a little bit of oil.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: People were undefeated when I said it.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, and then you stayed with it, though, when they started leaking oil.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: You said, Yeah, you said I got in at the wrong time.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: But uh yeah, no, credit to Nebraska, credit to Fred Hoyberg.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: He's just a really good college coach, is what we're seeming to find out.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: He was great at Iowa State, and he's been excellent at Nebraska to take a program that's been around for like 130 years and win their first two tournament games.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: Pretty good stuff from him.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: Iowa, another great coach in Ben McCollum.
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: The guy just loves winning in March.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: He he he won every conference tournament game at Drake.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: He won at Northwest Missouri State every tournament game, and he seems to just be doing that at Iowa too, so that's cool.
- 14:57SPEAKER_02: Also, in this region, we had the VCU upset of North Carolina, which it was a shame VCU wasn't really able to hang with Illinois in the consequential matchup.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Another blue blood just sort of in shambles.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: And one name that's being thrown around in the North Carolina potential opening is the whiny, whiny Todd Golden.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: They're they're thinking maybe they could pry him from Florida.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: I don't see it happening, but I think Kansas is under that belief, too, that maybe money will talk, and if Bill Self were to retire, that Todd Golden would be a candidate.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: I'm just happy that he's sitting at home this upcoming weekend.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Nobody, nobody picks more fights than this guy.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: He tried to get into it with Ben McCollum over a little loose ball situation.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: And Ben McCollum shoved him in a locker in the during game interview and just said, Yeah, that bench is sensitive.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: I love to see that.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Good stuff from my guy McCollum.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: And I'm just happy Todd Golden's at home.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, another another clown that we don't have to watch for it around the sidelines.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: So that's pretty, pretty great.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: Congrats on the championship.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Um, enjoy the rest of the tournament from home, pal.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: So, what are you expecting this weekend?
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: We have a border war between Iowa and Nebraska that's taking place in Houston, of course.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: That's the best place to play that one.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: And then we have Houston in a true home game against Illinois.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I mean it's crazy that Houston gets the regionals right in their backyard.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I like Houston over Illinois.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, there never really been an underwood guy, always a Samson uh disciple here.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: So um certainly the couch.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: And then I'm I'm just gonna stick with my guns in Nebraska.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: It's tough to pick against McCollum, like you said, all he really does in March is win.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh, you know, I have to stick with my guys, but I want over under like four, four and a half fights in the stands between those fans.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: They do not like each other.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: No, they don't, and they do like beer, so that leads to a combination of potential disagreements in the stands.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: I am with you on Houston.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: I do think that game's interesting because it's a true clash of styles.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: We have Illinois, who's one of the best offensive teams in the country.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: They're pretty to watch, they're fun, they're full of Europeans.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Every guy's name ends in an itch.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: I think Houston is just the much more gritty team, and as is Kelvin, that's the Calvin Sampson way, as you talked about.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: So give me the cougs in the home game.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: A lot of pressure is on them, though.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Everybody's expecting them to win, and it's a home game, so I wouldn't be surprised if that one's pretty close.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go with I'm gonna ride with you.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll ride with you on the Huskers.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: I hate picking against McCollum.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: I don't feel good about it.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: As soon as I said it, I didn't feel good about it.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: But there's something about this Nebraska team that I just think they might they get one more out of this group before ultimately meeting their maker in Houston.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we can definitely agree that Houston uh will have their way with the winner there.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Although I don't know, I could you could easily I do think that if Iowa gets past uh Nebraska, then they'll put up a pretty strong fight in the Elite 8 team.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: Me too.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: I think they would put up a better fight even because they'll just pull their hey, you want to roll around in the mud?
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: So do we.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: We're pigs and shit.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: So I think we're both on Houston to come out of the South region.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about the West, the California Dreaming region, the team without a team from California, the region without a team from California.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: We've got the classic tale of a play-in team making the Sweet 16, and the Longhorns look pretty frisky.
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sweaty Sean Miller is back.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: Uh my guy.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Boy, did we miss him?
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: I love him.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: I love him.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: I can't get enough of him.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: No, he's he's electric.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, he's got those boys playing some ball.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, they dismantled Gonzaga.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I think that that should be a great one, but Purdue, they're looking pretty pretty solid too.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: So uh we'll get to our our expectations, but first two rounds were all about High Point University.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Uh they and um specifically the fellow wearing number 99, Chase Johnston.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: Uh he was firing threes from the logo, practically half court.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Um, made the game winner, game-winning layup in his first two-point basket of the season.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: He was over four from two from two-point range uh up until that point.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, incredible story with that kid, just an absolute uh sniper from deep and managed to get that game winner as well.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Another thing about High Point is they just shipped thousands and thousands of fans across the country uh to Portland, and it's just like they are they're they live make-believe lives out there.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: That's what I tried talking about this on the tournament preview podcast during the first conference championship week, and our good friend Jeremy Good said, Hey, why are we spending five minutes on High Point?
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: Well, Jeremy, because they were about to be the Cinderella of the tournament, the bell of the ball.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what an unbelievable university.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: If you're a student there, you just get steak dinner, you just get swimming pools every few feet, you get the nicest facilities you've ever seen.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: Hey, you make the tournament, you get to go free of charge, we'll pay for it.
- 20:18SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: At Temple, we were trying to trade diamond dollars, trying to get we're trying to rub two diamond dollars together and make a third.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Trying to just get an egg roll at Maple Star for Christ's sake.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh high point, you're right.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: That is the story of this region.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: Chase Johnson, I mean, what a life that guy has.
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: Just be an absolute flamethrower.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: He gets them up quick, they're barely in his hands, like it's a touch go.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was the craziest part.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: It was like, oh my god, you think it's like an end of shot clock type of shot.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: It looks like an eat.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: He's making them from 45 feet.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: It's insane.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: That was such a good game in the first round in their upset against Wisconsin.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: One of the front runner games of the tournament as well.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Just trading buckets back and forth, defense optional.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: It was similar against Arkansas.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: Defense was pretty optional in that game, too, until the final couple minutes where Arkansas ultimately got some stops.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: But high point credit to you guys for giving us two absolute must-see games this tournament.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and to your point, that uh that high point Wisconsin game was like one of the first it was like in the first wave of uh games on Thursday, I believe.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: So it was like, oh boy, here we go.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a good one.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, now the the rest of the first round sort of fell flat on its face for the most part, uh, outside of a couple of nice games.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, high point.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Hats off.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Hats off to high point.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: And Wisconsin just another disappointment let down.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's just par for the course at this point.
- 21:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, those poor, those poor Wisconsin fans, uh, it's tough because they were used to losing playing ugly basketball, and now they have this fun team with a couple exciting guards, and they Thought okay, here we go.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Five seed playing a lot of good wins this year, top five wins, and then same result, first round knockout to high point, a mid-major in purple.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: They don't do well with those.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: They don't do well with those.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, let's talk about our expectations for the weekend ahead.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: We got Purdue taking on Texas, which I think we're both gonna be on the same side of that one.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: And then a game I I know I'm gonna be watching with a microscope is this Arkansas Arizona game.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: Because I think we could be on for an instant classic here.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh, I like Arizona personally to to come out of that one, but I totally agree it is gonna be a banger of a game.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Darius Acuff is uh certainly has shown himself to be so far the best player in the tournament.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: I think he continues that uh with a with another nice game.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Arizona's just got too much though.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Bradley, Burries, Pete, you you name it.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: So they uh I I do think Arizona makes it through.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Um Purdue, I think, is gonna be a little bit too much for Texas, unfortunately.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: I'd love to see the uh the the play-in magic continue on, but uh Braden Smith is is lava hot, and uh and I ultimately think Purdue uh faces Arizona when and Arizona's gonna get uh get to the final four there.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Braden Smith in the first round, he was just a surgeon.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: Second round, Miami gave him some fits.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: Jay Lucas, I think, did a good job scheming to have Braden have a lot more turnovers than he's accustomed to.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: But Fletcher Lawyer then kicked up and basically didn't miss a shot for Purdue.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: So that when both those guards are rolling, they're gonna be tough to beat.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: I'm with you.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: I think Purdue handles Texas pretty comfortably in one of the more boring games uh that we're gonna see this weekend.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: I just think Purdue's senior laden, they've been here before.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: I think they take care of the the darlings in Texas.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: In the Arkansas game, I do think Arizona ultimately wins.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: I think their size down low and on the perimeter will give Arkansas a little bit of a hard time.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: But if Malik Thomas plays well for Arkansas, I can see them pulling off that upset because you kind of know what you're gonna get with Acuff.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: We're all expecting him to have a really, really good 25-point game and probably around six, seven assists.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: It could get even better for him if he has a hot shooting night.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: He's so fun to watch.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: He might be the best guard Cal's coached in college, which is a crazy compliment.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: It's probably between him and Derek Rose.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that's the level at which he's playing.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna go with Arizona because they are my championship pick, but I won't say I feel comfortable.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: Yes, I do agree.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: And they've Arkansas has a tendency if Trayvon Brazil gets in foul trouble or is missing threes, they could they could play with fire a little bit too much.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: So give me Arizona, give me Purdue, and then what do you have in that one?
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Because that's an interesting game to go to the Final Four with two teams that have Purdue.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I just said I I I do think that Arizona will will pull that out for the same reasons, really.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: I I think that Arizona on paper is the best team and probably has been the the best team all year, uh, really.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: So um, but that is gonna be if we're lucky enough to get Arizona and Purdue, that will be a pointment television.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: Yep, I'm excited for that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: And I'll go with Arizona as well.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: I think it'll be very, very close, and it will be tough to kill Braden Smith in what could be his final college game ever.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: He won't go down easy.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Let's move on to the Midwest, the not strong enough region, which I think held pretty true to form outside of the two teams at the top.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: This one this one has been a bit of weird, unpredictable, not not that entertaining of games in this region, except for one game in the opening round, which I still haven't fully recovered from, which was the Kentucky Santa Clara game.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: Just an all-time March Madness game.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Uh thank you.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: I have to say thank you to Oteka Owe for your two years of exceptional play in a moment we as Kentucky fans will never forget, even if it did eventually lead to us getting our dicks kicked in in the second round against the Cyclones.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: But the Santa Clara game, just unbelievable scenes at the end of that.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Incredible.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, first of all, you have the Santa Clara kid just onions nailing that three, and then of course Owe, uh the the half quarter banked in.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Amazing, amazing.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: And then you not even just that, Owe just takes over in overtime.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Just there, he leaves no doubt.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: That was an incredible win for Kentucky.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: Did it possibly save Mark Pope's job?
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Who's to say?
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Kentucky, that's that's uh something to hang your hat on, something for the uh for the highlight tape.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Otego was only a two-year player at Kentucky after transferring in from Oklahoma, but I think he cemented himself as truly a Kentucky great, and I think he set the record for most points ever from a two-year player at Kentucky, which is obviously pretty excellent.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: He also had a tournament stat line again in that Santa Clara game.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: He had 35 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, which is the he's the third player ever to do so behind Larry Bird and Oscar Robertson.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: So pretty good company.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: Pretty good company for Otega.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, the main storyline though, for me in this region was the two teams at the top.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: The Michigan just dismantling everybody they faced on a warpath.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: And then Iowa State, who dismantled Kentucky in the second half of a game that I thought was going to actually be pretty close until uh Iowa State just woke up and said, uh nope, we're a lot tougher and better than you, and just made Kentucky roll over and let them pet their belly.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, they had you said it.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: Both both of them look absolutely dominant.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: Uh a quick shout out to the to our other two Sweet 16 bids in there, though.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Uh Rick Barnes has, I know you're not a Barnes guy, but he's got those boys rolling these days.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Um, he the Tennessee absolutely demolished uh the Darling mid-major that was from Miami of Ohio.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: Um just put that to rest real quick.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: And then took down a very solid UVA team.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: And then on the on the other side, uh Bama has you know Bama is always just if they're making their shots, look out, and they have been making their shots.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: So if that continues, look out, Michigan.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: It could be could be a tight one.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Those two coaches, Oates and Barnes, both have uh consecutive uh Sweet 16 streak going on as well.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: So um they're no strangers to these these types of games, and the it it should be the the region not strong enough, it should be producing some some good ones this weekend.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I on the Alabama point, I wanted to say you were right.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: When when they make their shots, they just shoot so many of them that they're borderline impossible to beat unless you're that elite level team.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: And Texas Tech without JT Toppin is not that elite level team.
- 29:24unknown: Right.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: And honestly, Hofstra gave them a pretty good game.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: It was a four-point game with five minutes to go, and then you look up and Alabama hit four threes in a row and the game's over.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: And it happens just like that.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: So credit to Nate Oates.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, I hate him and he seems like a true sleaze ball, but he he's a damn good basketball coach.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: He's now mastered the art of succeeding after a major arrest on one of his starters.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's uh he's the easy right for the job there.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Better call Oates if your guy's in trouble.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Because yeah, he'll get you to the Sweet 16.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: And as for Rick Barnes, I'm glad he's actually having some tournament success as his career winds down because he has been a really good coach for a long time and he just consistently failed to get it done in the tournament.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: Now, do I want to see Tennessee win another game?
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: Of course not.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: I never want to see them win a game, they'll never make a Final Four.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: They're they're a borderline irrelevant program, but credit to them for playing some tough defense, and I do think they will give Iowa State problems defensively in that matchup this weekend.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: Especially without Jefferson, that yeah, that has uh potential to be uh something to keep our eyes on.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Are you going with Michigan facing Iowa State in the Elite Eight?
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: I will go with Michigan facing Iowa State, and I do think that uh, like we said, without Jefferson, I don't know his status.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he's if he's gonna be able to come back at all, but I think I'm gonna go ahead with with Michigan here.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna stick with Iowa State.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: I am taking obviously both of them to win their first game this weekend.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: And then I'm gonna I'm gonna stick with my original Final Four pick just for posterity because I took Iowa State everywhere.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: I would be lying if I said the Jefferson injury didn't concern me.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: I don't think he'll be back this weekend, just based on what he looked like on the sidelines during the Kentucky game.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: He was on a scooter, couldn't really stand up at all.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: So his ankle did touch the touch the ground pretty good there.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: And as a fellow survivor, yeah, you're not right for a few weeks.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, that's tough.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: And I I had uh originally picked Iowa State to the final four as well, but uh Michigan, they just look like they're on a different level.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: I was I was high on those St.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Louis billikans, and they just snuffed that flame out like it was nothing.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they sure did.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: They got they got Avala into a little foul trouble right away.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: I said, yeah, St.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: Louis beat Georgia by 40, they were up.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: And yeah, Michigan just came and beat St.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: Louis by 30.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: Like just fumbled them, shoved them in a locker.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: So Michigan for sure is scary.
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: They're playing great ball.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: Overall thoughts on the tournament so far.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: We talked about not a ton of upsets, but I do think that has set us up for a really good final two weeks of the season.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, not a ton of upsets, and it felt like at times it was uh there it was lacking of drama, but then when we did get drama, it was epic.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: So I think I had seen something about like this is the most uh the the tournament with the most games decided by 20 plus points or something along those lines, uh, which I totally believe it felt like there was blowouts all the time.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: But you know, there might have been three blowouts happening and then you get the uh the Kentucky Santa Clara game, or there's you know, three blowouts happening and you get the VCU comeback uh against UNC.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: So when, like I said, when you get the drama, it has been unbelievable.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, the Nebraska Vanderbilt game I mentioned earlier, that was an incredible game with shot making all over the place.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: So um uh very average, I guess, on the whole uh tournament, but um the moments have uh risen to the occasion.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: Well said.
- 33:21SPEAKER_02: I think you're right in saying that those big moments have really stood out and they've been such good moments that it's kind of covered up for some of maybe the lack of exciting games down the stretch in other areas.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: So obviously we're poised for some excellent Sweet 16 Elite Eight matchups, and we're undoubtedly going to get a very, very good Final Four.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: So a lot still to play for.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: Let's move away from college basketball and talk about some other items on our agenda.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: We could start with some travel discussion to take us into the return of the Did You See This segment, which is a fan favorite.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: On the travel front, you just got back from an extended stay in Florida.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: I want to hear about the highlights.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: Tell me where you stayed, what airline, how was your experience?
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: Incredible two weeks uh down in sunny Florida.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: I left Pennsylvania when it was 20 degrees out, and I returned when it was 60 degrees, so it was perfectly planned by me yet again.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Um I I was uh down in southwest Florida, uh Naples to be exact, um, visiting some family down there.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Um had my seven-month-old uh daughter in tow.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: We had her in the pool every day.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: She was loving it, couldn't get enough of the water splashing around.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: She was uh an animal in there, a fish of sorts.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: Um we uh we also managed to um head up slightly north to the Tampa St.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Pete area for a long weekend where we uh we um did some bopping around, hit clear water, uh, caught a Phillies spring training game at Baycare Ballpark.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Tremendous experience, tremendous facility.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Uh the tiki bar out in left field is something to write home about for sure.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Um airline-wise, it it's pretty much American, is like almost your only option down the heading down there.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: It's like American or Frontier.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: We went with American.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Um it was okay, it was okay to good up until landing in uh in Philadelphia.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: It was a rocky, rocky descent and and landing.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: We uh it was one of the deals where you came down, uh, got a wheel on the runway, and then went straight back up.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: It was it was terrible.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Uh my my poor wife was had fallen ill uh as a result of this.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Uh baby loved it.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: She was like, you know, she thought it was something something like a roller coaster.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: So she was she was all she might have even fallen asleep.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: I was a couple decades of the rosary deep at that point.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: I was just I was pretty sure we were going down.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: I was just asking God to make it not hurt.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: Oh boy.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: I didn't know about that last part of the trip.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: That's brutal.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 36:19SPEAKER_02: Happy, happy that happy that you guys survived alright.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: I I'm not a big American guy, but I do think that will serve as a good segue on the topic of air travel.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: I want to kick off the return of Did You See This with Did You See the new United announcement.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: I I missed this until you brought it to my attention.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: It's it's pretty powerful, so I'll let you take it away.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: It is breaking news of sorts because it did come just in time before recording.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: But United has announced that they are moving to a relaxed row model in economy where three seats can be converted to a lie flat type bed, similar to what you'd see in first class on an overseas flight.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: They're also updating all of their screens to be Bluetooth compatible, and they said, quote, chargers everywhere.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: That's a big, that's a big play from United Airlines.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: Where do you stand on this news and where do you stand as you on United as an airline?
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, the the Bluetooth compatibility is long overdue.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know, I don't understand how we can have touch screens in the back of all these uh headrests, but you're it's gotta be like 2010 where you're plugging in the the analog uh headphones.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: So that is seems like an easy fix, and hats off to them for uh executing.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: I don't entirely understand the uh the relax row model.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Me either.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Uh do you have to purchase all three tickets?
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: And in in which case at that point would you not just want to purchase a uh first class ticket?
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: So I don't quite understand that, uh, but in theory it sounds amazing.
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: Yes, the example they showed, it seemed to be ideal for a family such as yourself as a three-person family.
- 38:15SPEAKER_02: You guys can take over that row if you'd be buying three seats anyway, and sort of converted it to beds.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: Now, I am also confused by it because it seems like if it's just one person wanting a Y flat seat, it's gonna be just as expensive to do that as it would be to get any other first class type seat on it on an airplane.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: So I think that is confusing, and I'm not sure that that's just a little bit of a fugazi that they're running.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: So that's something to keep our eyes on.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: I am not a huge United guy.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: I will say I had a really good experience with them on my way back from London last year.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: I was one of 40 people on the 360-person plane.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: So I was upgraded like three times.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: I had a beautiful business class live seat.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: I was served multiple meals.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: They couldn't, they couldn't stop handing me wine.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: They were just, hey, you want some more?
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: We're I was like, sure, I'll have another.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: It was a great experience.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: So United might be on the rise.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: And like you said, with the Bluetooth, I think that is we need that across all airlines.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: What are why is that not a thing yet?
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: No, I actually I don't think in my adult life I've flown United at all.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Um I'm I am eager to to give them a go.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: They don't really run many flights out of Philadelphia, or at least uh not direct ones anyway.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: So um I've become something of a jet blue guy myself, but I'm I'm open, I'm I'm on the market really.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: And my allegiance for the record, I just it's always with Delta.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: There's been some stuff in the news recently that's a little bit troubling, but I'm a Delta guy through and through.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: It's it's I'm happy you're able to admit that.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for sure.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna get into the details, we're not gonna get bogged down with those, but um I'm I'm I remain loyal to Delta.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: Let's move on to golf.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: This is going to be at the front of everyone's brains soon in the next few weeks as we get closer to the Masters.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, the Masters has become the first time of the year that golf really captures my full undivided attention.
- 40:25SPEAKER_02: I used to be very involved in the week-to-week PGA tour, but I don't know if it was the live breakoff or what has happened that has made me become more into just the majors, but that's where I'm at right now.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: My question for Did you see this is the last few PGA tour winners have been Cam Young at the players and Maddie Fitzpatrick at the Valse Bar.
- 40:45SPEAKER_02: Did you catch either of those two victories?
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Uh the uh I I missed the Valspar, admittedly, but the players was was great drama.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Playoff, you had a couple guys who kind of choked uh on the back nine uh on Sunday coming in.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: So um hats off to Cam Young.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: That was a great win.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: A nice little payday for for the boy.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Um and then the guy he beat, Matty Fitz, supposedly bounced right back and won at the Val Spar, which you don't usually see on the PGA tour.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: Usually a playoff loss stings a little bit, but it does mean that both those guys are playing some good golf.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: My question is, do you think either of those guys has a chance at Augusta, or who are you keeping your eye on for the Masters?
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Um, I think my short answer to do they have a chance is gonna be no.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: I think they they both uh they both show flashes of having what it takes to win at Augusta from time to time.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: They're both pretty good off the T.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Uh when they're when they're really striking it well, they have the ability to hit a lot of greens.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: Cam Young lacks a little bit of the it factor to me.
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: Uh he and beyond that, he he just can't do it around the green.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: He's he's pretty uh he's losing strokes to the field in uh uh play around the green, if I remember correctly.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: And then as far as Matt Fitzpatrick, he I know for a fact is losing uh his negative strokes gained uh putting this year.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: His putter has let him down uh tremendously.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: So uh do I think either of them will win uh at Augusta this year?
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: No.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: Um, but they they like I said, they they're both capable of flashes.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: One guy I'm gonna go ahead and keep my eye on is uh one Ludwig Oberg.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Uh he is one of the uh fellas who completely fell apart at the players, like I mentioned.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: But he was in control of that tournament.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: He had a couple bad holes in a row.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Um he has now played in two masters, finished solo second and uh T7, I believe, was last year.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: And so um he's certainly one that I'm keeping an eye on going.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: I love that you said Ludwig.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: You know that he has a special place in my heart.
- 43:13SPEAKER_02: He is one of my two favorite players, so I hope you're right.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: I am a little bit worried about him closing the door in one of these big events because he's been in the mix a bunch and he's starting to build up some battle scars.
- 43:25SPEAKER_02: Shout out Lupe Fiasco, and I really don't love that because as a tortured fan, I have gone through the Jordan Speed experience, and that's the school of hard knocks in terms of battle scars.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: So hopefully, I was almost I was almost thinking that building up that like that that scar tissue of a an epic collapse at the players would almost benefit him uh in in a major situation, but it could really go either way.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: He could he could just be a guy who who can't win it on Sunday.
- 43:59unknown: So
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: And I think you're right in terms of he's still young enough that he that loss should inspire him to get over the hump.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: But if he takes on a couple more of those devastating losses in big events, I think we might see the reverse effect, which is where Jordan Speeder is.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then we we don't want that.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: But I can't win anyone.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: Can't win anyone, which is the worst place to be.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: Also, while we're on the topic of golf, I think this is the most important news from the golf world.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: Rory's champions dinner menu has been released.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: I'll run through it quick and then I want to hear your feedback.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: We have appetizers peach and ricotta flatbread, rock shrimp rock shrimp tempura with spicy, creamy sauce, bacon wrapped dates, grilled elk sliders, a first course of yellow fin tuna carpaccio, a main course, of course you get your choice, between a wagyu, filet mignon, and seared salmon with sides of traditional Irish champ, which is creamy mashed potatoes, sauteed Brussels sprouts, glazed carrots with brown butter, crispy onion rings, and a dessert of a sticky toffee pudding, which I am worried about for the old folks that are still attending this champion's dinner, that could be a nightmare for those chompers.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: It might be a little too sticky.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: At first glance, I I thought that this uh menu lacked a little bit of pop to me.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: Um I might have just been, I don't really know what I was expecting, but um not a not a bunch of fish.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: But now when I when I dig into it, it's it's really pretty great.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: There's the showstoppers are the appetizers, though, in my opinion, without a doubt.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Uh the the flatbread, it it sounds great.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: The dates are that's just a classic wedding hors d'oeuvre.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Come on.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Bacon wrap dates.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: The true stars of the show, the rock shrimp tempura and the grilled elk sliders.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: And then uh yeah, like I said, I'm not not really a fish guy, but then you took you toss in that wagyu filet.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: That sounds pretty good to me.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: I am completely with you that the appetizers are the star of the show.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: They steal the it's the understudy steals the lead.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: It is he just knocked it out of the park with these apps.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: I also am worried for these guys because you can't play the next day after a meal like this.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: This is a heavy, heavy meal.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: I'm personally, I know I have no self-regulation when those apps are flowing around.
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: I will carve myself to death in the appetizer portion and barely touch that wagyu.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: And and the goat cheese and in those bacon wrap dates, it'll sneak up on you.
- 46:54SPEAKER_01: You'll you might be you might be waking up with some tummy issues.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Is he doing that by design, you think?
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: Maybe.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: And I've heard that over sixty thousand dollars is being spent on his wine selection as well.
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: So I know Rory, just a classy, classy guy, is gonna be pairing these with some lovely reds.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: Good stuff from him.
- 47:17SPEAKER_02: I of course would love to be just a fly on the wall and maybe eat the scraps at that dinner.
- 47:22SPEAKER_02: But I think I think that's uh that's gonna be an excellent one.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: Because sometimes you see these champions dinners that are just a bit too crazy.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: And I'm glad Rory didn't go that direction.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: I was with you when I saw the when I saw the yellow fish, I was like, ah, yeah, uh could be out on that.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: But if Sean, if you'll allow me uh to to backtrack real quick, because there's one guy who will be in attendance at said dinner, who I think might deserve a slight bit of mention here when it comes to playing in the Masters, and that's uh Patrick Reed.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: I he oh you know I'm so glad you brought him up.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: I thought you were gonna say Scotty.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, of course not.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: Uh he Scotty might stink at golf these days.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: He might be, yeah.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: Well, he definitely stinks these days.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: He might stink to uh like overall.
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: Um but Patrick Reed, he's he's got a little pep in his step.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: He's headed back to the PGA tour, he's he's doing his penance these days.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Uh he's playing real well uh over wherever he has been playing.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: He's just been uh constantly top ten, uh if not winning.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Um he was solo third at this tournament last year.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: Patrick Reed is one, he would love to just come and spoil the party.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: I am so glad you brought him up because I think overall a good storyline will be the villains returning, because also in a similar boat, not nowhere near as evil as Patrick Reed and Justine.
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: But John Romm, he I saw over the course of the last three months, he's actually been the best golfer in the world.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Now, how they track those metrics on the Mickey Mouse live tour, I'm not so sure.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: But if we have Patrick Reed and Rom firing with Brooks in the mix and potentially Scotty, maybe Jordan, Ludwig, I think we could be in for a really good masters, especially because we didn't even mention the guy defending is Rory McElroy, who was coming off the back of his first ever masters and got that whale off his back.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: So I'm excited for Augusta already.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: Gosh, just talking about it.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um I'm jazzed up.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: And it goes, it's when you first see that pink Azalea pop on TV, you're just instantly teleported to a much, much happier place, much warmer place.
- 49:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the commercials.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, you got the Ray Charles playing.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: It feels like April already.
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: Can't wait till next week.
- 49:44SPEAKER_02: And also, just a quick shout out to the Masters app, one of the best apps in the world.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: Next to that grilled elk slider.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: They should just they should be hiring the folks from Masters Media to uh to run their aircrafts for them.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: Let the Riddler get a crack at it.
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: And we'll have your airlines up to snuff in no time.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: Uh I wanted to touch on a couple of things as we head towards the end of the show.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: We have to move to the pop culture front.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: I have a did you see this that I couldn't believe, and I don't know all the context to, so I'm hoping you could help me fill in the blanks.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: Did you see this bachelorette go absolutely wild and get booted from the show?
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: I did, I very much did.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, do you want to lay out the uh scenario or would you like me to?
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: I I'll say I'll just say what I know, which is ABC has canceled season 22 on behalf of one Taylor Frankie Paul's assault video coming to light where she absolutely manhandled her, I believe, ex-boyfriend.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: Really ugly stuff.
- 51:00SPEAKER_02: What is your what are your thoughts on this situation?
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, I unfortunately know a lot about this situation.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: Courtesy of my wife, it's kind of just been getting nonstop play at the Collins House.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: Taylor Frankie Paul is a star of a show called The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: And ABC to chose her as the Bachelorette, kind of like an off-the-wall decision, controversial.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: Like they I guess they don't normally do that, take out other reality stars and and put them on their show, but they did, which you know screams to me that The Bachelorette was was failing miserably, and they needed to get any type of audience they possibly could.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: Now, if you uh have seen any of this Secret Wives show, like I have seen a little bit, you know that this Taylor Frankie Paul character is a trying to be politically correct here.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: She's she needs some help and she's she's got some issues.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: Um, so I'm not entirely sure what they were what ABC Disney was thinking in the first place by casting her.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: The video that had surfaced is actually from I think 2023.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: Um and it was an altercation between her and and this fella Dakota, who's uh a constant character on the show as well, and they're kind of on on again, off again.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, they have a child together.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: She has a couple of other kids that are not his.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: Uh one of the kids was present during that very disturbing video, so that's pretty, pretty terrible thing.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: Um, so ABC, yeah, they they they pulled it.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: Probably good.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: Now, if you'll allow me to put a Tim Foyle hat on here, Sean, is that okay?
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, please.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: I ran this past my wife and I wasn't called an idiot.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: So if if that tells me anything, it's a sniff test.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: It's pretty high likelihood that this is true.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: My theory on the matter is that uh sh so, okay, also a little bit more of context is that the most recent season of this Mormon Wives show, it ends with her and this Dakota guy who she was hurling uh parcels at in this disturbing video.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: Um they kind of are sort of getting back together as she's leaving for The Bachelorette, and she's like on the phone with him, and so it leaves it on a really weird note of like, is she actually going on the show to look for a husband?
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: Which I guess is supposed to be the thing.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: So my theory is that they so they had recorded the entire season.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: ABC decided this season stinks.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: They were very, of course, they were very well aware of this the existence of this video.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: I'm wondering, did they leak this video on purpose so that they could pull the season, kind of shift the blame off to uh off to Taylor and cover their own a little bit where they might have produced another absolutely stinky season, lose more viewers, and maybe tank the sh tank the franchise as a whole.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: Um, but now they're the talk of the town.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: Everybody wants to see this season of Bachelorette now.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: So um Wow.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 54:38SPEAKER_01: Just a little, just just my little theory there.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: I know too much about this, unfortunately.
- 54:43SPEAKER_02: Well, that's why I had that's why I had you on.
- 54:45SPEAKER_02: We just had we waited the whole show to get to the the thick of it here.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Uh I will say, of course, the secret, I don't even know the name of the the secret show is a secret to me.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: I know nothing about the Bachelorette, I know nothing about this, other than it came across my desk, and I thought, you know what, this makes for an interesting talking point on a podcast.
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: I will say, I think one big takeaway for me personally is I'm never going to trust a girl with three boys' names.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's pretty that's a great point.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, don't watch, don't watch the Mormon Wads show.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: It's terrible.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: Don't watch The Bachelorette, it's even worse.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: Um, and do not trust women with multiple boys' names.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: Is it with three?
- 55:32SPEAKER_02: Three is tough.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you draw a hard line at two.
- 55:37SPEAKER_02: And also, to your ABC point, I think that's a very good theory, and it makes a ton of sense from a non-biased uh observer here.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: Also, I think it's important to categorize all of this under the Walt Disney Corporation's Mickey Mouse.
- 55:50SPEAKER_02: This is a Mickey Mouse situation.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: ABC's owned by Mr.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: Mickey, and I think this whole thing screams a ruse, and I'm gonna immediately co-sign your tin foil hat petition.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: Shady dealings, big time.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: I believe you have a did you see this for me if you would like to take the honors.
- 56:09SPEAKER_01: I do have a did you see this, Sean.
- 56:11SPEAKER_01: It's it's very rare that a uh news headline comes across my desk that is specifically made for Sean Boyle, but I think I've found the one.
- 56:24SPEAKER_03: Here it is.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: This is uh this is a little crossover between Brazilian soccer and pop music.
- 56:29SPEAKER_01: So if that's if that sounds up your alley, I'll continue on.
- 56:32SPEAKER_02: That is right up my alley.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: Uh Pop Star by the name of Chapel Roan, you may have heard of her, um found herself in a little bit of a situation in the country of Brazil.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: Uh she was in Sao Paulo uh before a uh before a concert that she was going on.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: As was uh now I may need some help with some pronunciations here, Sean.
- 56:57SPEAKER_01: Uh it is the the club is flamenco.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Flamingo, yep.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: Flamingo uh star Jorginho Freel.
- 57:06SPEAKER_02: Perfect enunciation, yes.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: He just goes by Jorginho typically.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: Jorginho, yeah, he was with his wife and his young daughter.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: Um, they were in Sao Paulo to see Chapel Ron, come to find out that they were staying at the same hotel.
- 57:23SPEAKER_01: The daughter is observing Chapel, possibly from a distance.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: Maybe she approaches her uh while everybody's at breakfast.
- 57:32SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's gotta be a pretty high-profile uh hotel if it if those are the types of people who are staying there.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: So um they're at breakfast, they're they're maybe looking over at her and and things like that.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: Next thing uh that um Jorginho's family knows is they get a big uh security guard coming up to their table saying, Hey, let's let's tone it down with the uh with the eyeballs here.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: Um you know, they tempers flare, of course.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: We're not uh we're not necessarily a well-behaved bunch down there, if I had to guess.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: Um Jorginho and his wife kind of, I think from the sounds of it, they pull out sort of like uh do you know who we are type of type of thing, to which I'm sure that the security guard said, no, no, I do not.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: Uh and um now, followed, of course, by an online uh shitstorm, um, Jorginho's wife posted a big video um kind of saying, like, you know, our our daughter's birthday was ruined and uh she was left in tears because her we were confronted by this security guy of her favorite pop star.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: We we were gonna go see her concert, we didn't wind up going to the concert, that whole thing.
- 58:47SPEAKER_01: Chapel Rowan's getting a lot of hate online for it.
- 58:51SPEAKER_01: Um, but just you know, she she Chapel constantly finds herself in in situations like this.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: Uh whether they find her or she is the instigator, you be the judge.
- 59:03SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, bottom line is now the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, who of course is a flamengo fan, of course he is, has officially enacted the ban card of Chapel Row in the city of Rio.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: She is not welcome, she cannot perform in Rio.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, she has been banned from Rio.
- 59:29SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: Uh perfect crossover for you there.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: Take it away.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: I just want to thank you for bringing this to my radar because this checks all of my boxes.
- 59:39SPEAKER_02: This is amazing stuff.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna do deep, deep digging into this after we press end on recording.
- 59:46SPEAKER_02: Okay, first immediate thoughts.
- 59:48SPEAKER_02: This would not happen with Taylor Swift, first of all.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: She's a proper pop star, nothing like this would ever come about.
- 59:55SPEAKER_02: That's the first order of business.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: She would also know who Jorginho was.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: She would have done her homework.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: She would have been like, oh, you must be Jorginho's daughter.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Great to meet you.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_02: She would have known her name, she would have had bracelets prepared, the whole nine.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: Chapel, obviously, where there's smoke, there's fire.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: She's not, she's not one of my pop stars.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: But with that being said, and I think this is a twist you might not have been expecting.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_02: Jorginho is a former Arsenal and Chelsea player.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_02: So I did know that actually.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: So good for his daughter.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_02: I hope she continues to cry.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_02: I hope she never gets to meet a pop star.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: And I think Jorginho's a scumbag and a liar who got his feelings hurt.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: So honestly, a true I I'm glad to see them all upset.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: I hope Chapel keeps getting shit in the media, and I hope Jorginho's daughter's miserable.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: And hey, if you if you want to take that side of it, they kind of were sent back to Rio with their tail between their legs after, you know, the big bad security guard sent him sent him packing.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_01: So Jorginho and family were it was a they were a little bit embarrassed in this situation.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: So you might are you could be becoming a chapel guy.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_02: I I don't want to necessarily say that yet, but I will say who I am becoming a big fan of, and I'm gonna do some real research into this bloke.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_02: The mayor of Rio.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: What a proper guy.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_02: He comes out the only winner in this situation.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_02: Just a true diehard fan.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_02: Up up flamingo.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: I will say too, this is a little word to the wise ahead of the World Cup.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_02: We have a lot of these Brazilians coming up our way in the United States this summer.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: And if I know one thing, it is to not piss off a Brazilian football fan.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_02: So you saw what could happen with Chaperone.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: They're issuing bans to the most populated city instantly just for looking at a girl the wrong way.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_02: So I think they could do far worse up here in the United States.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: It is always smart to say you're rooting for Brazil if you see the Brazil fan.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: If you see an Argentinian fan, just say go messy.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: You don't want to show your Brazil allegiance around them because they're also an angry bunch.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: See if yeah, you know, see if you can manage to play both sides.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_01: I will be playing both sides.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: Avoid those colors.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: I'll be rooting hard during those uh those weeks for the US of A.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_01: Be wearing my stars and stripes around.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_01: So if I encounter any Brazilians, I expect to uh give them a rock flag and eat.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_02: Uh I think that's it for Did You See This?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: Did you have anything else there?
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: No, I think I think we pretty much we we solved the world's topics, if you ask me.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: That last one was excellent.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_02: The best one was brought to the table by you.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_02: Uh let's wrap up the show.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_02: Do you have any recommendations for me?
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_02: Because I have a decent little list to get through.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: Um not much.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: Uh I haven't been uh viewing or listening to all that much.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: I will recommend to the viewers what I have been has been taking up a decent bit of my screen time is uh Survivor 50, the 50th season of Survivor.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: There are some uh returning players who are uh all-time greats.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_01: Um it's you know probably the best reality competition show that uh has been created.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: Um they're getting there's a lot of talk about Mickey Mouse on this episode.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_01: Survivor has become fully Mickey Mouse.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Uh there's uh uh Billy Eilish things going on, and uh Zach Brown just had a 30-minute sort of uh cameo in the last episode.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: So things like that you're gonna have to get through.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_01: Um, but the in terms of gameplay, this is strong, strong season if you're uh into such a thing.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_02: Good stuff.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_02: I will end up watching this one.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_02: I think I'm just gonna wait for it all to be released and avoid the spoiler game and then just try to get through it.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_02: Because I'm kind of only a survivor guy because of you, you got me into the show, and also I'm really only a big game hunter in terms of I need you to tell me it's a good season to watch before I go ahead and do it.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and we'll we'll have to see still.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_01: It's still early, so I'll I'll let you know.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_02: Keep me and the listeners informed on that.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_02: I have a movie that I would like to shout out.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_02: It is called The Ballad of Wallace Island.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_02: I believe I might have mentioned it in passing on the show before, but I watched it recently.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_02: It's very good.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: It snuck up on me, just a beautiful little film.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_02: And then also, as real listeners will know that I and Ryan Amade set out a goal of listening to 50 new albums this year.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: I just want to report from my end, absolutely smashing this one.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: So we're off to a raring success in terms of the album listening on the goals pod.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_02: I'm moving my goal to 100.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_02: That's how well it's going.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_02: So it's just easy when I'm going for a walk.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_02: I try to go for around a 45-50-minute walk each day, and that's a perfect length for an album.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: So the two most recent ones that I would like to shout out, first and foremost, Alessia Kara.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_02: It's an album called Love or Lack Thereof.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_02: And it's kind of just songs that existed in her catalog before that she redid in a jazz live album kind of way, and it's really, really good.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: So I couldn't recommend that one any higher.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_02: That one's one of the best albums I listened to so far this year.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_00: So it's like her old songs, and she re-recorded them in a different Yeah.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_02: I think there's a couple new songs that I was unfamiliar with at least.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_00: And then I know Stay and Beautiful on there.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_02: No, I wish it was.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_02: That's a banger.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_02: But Stay Is, which I think you would know that one as well.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: That's yeah, that's a popular one.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_02: And sh the version on this album is so much better than the original.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: So that's really cool.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_02: And she has Nora Jones on there for one.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_02: So good stuff from Lesia Cara.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, another album I listened to recently that I would recommend is Racing Mount Pleasant.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: It's a self titled album.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: I think that is probably the leader in the clubhouse in terms of what I've heard so far in 2026.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_02: That is all I've got on the album front.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_02: And then lastly, I am reading a book.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: The reading 30 book scal is not going as well as the albums is.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_02: So I need to make up some headway there.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: I'm listening I'm reading a book called Waiting by Ha Jin.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: It is about a Chinese uh military doctor who has to wait 18 years to divorce his wife and marry the love of his life because his wife was in arranged marriage.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_02: So it's each year he's able to go to court once a year, and his wife just keeps saying no, no divorce.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_02: So it's like it is pretty interesting so far.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_01: I am uh I'm actually getting to uh close to the end uh of a book that I've been working on uh titled The The Wide Wide Sea.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: I probably have mentioned it on this podcast before, if I had to say.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: Um it is uh uh the story of Captain James Cook's final voyage.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_01: He was uh something something of an explorer extraordinaire.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_01: Uh so he's uh his third and final voy voyage, he's looking for the Northwest Passage, he's discovering Hawaii, things like that.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_01: Uh it's really good.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: I mentioned I'm getting towards the end of it.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, that does nothing for my goal of one book that I set for myself for the year because I have been reading this one since last year, and my goal was to cash a ticket.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna have to get through this one first and then we'll address the goal.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_01: Um but Sean, you you know what?
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_01: You you've inspired me because this is something that I had uh been thinking but sort of internalized by your uh expansion of your album goal.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_01: I would just like to let the listeners know that we have been stretching.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: Boy, have we been stretching.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_02: And firing up each morning, firing off the block.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, firing out of our stance, we're we're stretching, we're stretching hard, we're stretching long and fast.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: And uh not only will uh not only are you going to uh reach your extended goal of um your the added albums, I kind of want this is gonna sound insane to you.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_01: And and if you've made this, if you've made it this far in the podcast, uh shoot me a text if you want to talk about it.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_01: This is gonna sound insane to everybody listening.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_01: Um I've been stretching so much that I'd like to uh extend my stretching goal into in the year the year of our lord 2026.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_01: I, Michael Collins, want to perform a split.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_03: Oh my god.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_03: Holy shit, no.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_03: The last time I saw you had back pain.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_03: Unbelievable stuff.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_03: That is excellent.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_01: I I am I I feel like I'm dangerously close.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_01: I don't really know what constitutes a split uh per se.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_01: Does it do what what parts need to be touching the floor or or what?
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna one of these days I'm gonna get as close as I can and I'll I'll try to snap a pick.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I'll tell you this.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_02: I have uh we've been talking about uh potentially getting together one of these weekends.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_02: So I will pay you and the family a visit, and I just I just want to see some of the stretches that you're working on.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_02: I just want to be an independent observer.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_02: I just want to see a couple of how we're getting so loose.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_02: And I'm telling you this, I'm worried that your golf game might be reaching a new level this year with this newfound flexibility.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_01: There's there's a chance we put it all together this year.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_02: Great stuff from you.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think we will do eventually, sometime in the summer, a update on the goals podcast because obviously there's gonna be some shortcomings and some triumphs, but we will touch more on that as we get later in the year.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: But I'm so I'm so happy for you that you're stretching out a level to which you think a split is in the cards.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_01: We're bordering on split as we speak.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_03: This guy's gummy.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_03: Unbelievable.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, I love it.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_03: MC, appreciate you coming on.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_03: Anything else before you go?
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_01: That's it for me.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_01: Thanks for having me.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_02: Yes, always a pleasure.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_02: Listeners, thank you all for listening.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_02: And and that's that's why you stick around when Michael Collins is on the show, just for a little treat like that as you go on your way.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_02: Thank you all for tuning in, and until next time, take care of the biggest thing.
