- 2:22Speaker 2: it Komisky Park. Gary Gary Hill Junior, great friend of
- 2:25Speaker 2: ours on the road with the Mariners here on ninety
- 2:27Speaker 2: three point three KJRFM.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Hello, sir, Hey, you can call it Kamiski all you want.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Thank you, fine, thank you whatever they call it now. Although, yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 2: I don't like the new park compared to the old one,
- 2:41Speaker 2: but the old one was a dump so they had
- 2:42Speaker 2: to fix it. But yeah, it's so the question of
- 2:46Speaker 2: the day. You know, I'm gonna ask you the six
- 2:48Speaker 2: man rotation specter of bright with Bryce Miller coming back,
- 2:53Speaker 2: how do you think this plays out? And could you
- 2:56Speaker 2: foresee Luis Castillo being a good soldier saying yeah, okay,
- 2:59Speaker 2: I'll go to the bullpen because Emerson Hancock has been
- 3:02Speaker 2: pitching so well, and or how do you see what
- 3:04Speaker 2: this really shaken out?
- 3:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a great question at this point because you know,
- 3:09Speaker 3: I always think these situations always kind of resolved themselves
- 3:12Speaker 3: with injury or something along the way. And we're on
- 3:16Speaker 3: the precipice now though, because the Millers look great, and
- 3:20Speaker 3: clearly given his track record, he you know, you want
- 3:25Speaker 3: that in the rotation, but you can't take Hancock out
- 3:27Speaker 3: of the rotation. He's been He's been one of the
- 3:30Speaker 3: best pitchers in baseball right well this year, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 3: looking over his stuff so far this year, and I
- 3:35Speaker 3: think the most important thing about Hancock the results aren't fluky,
- 3:40Speaker 3: because what he's doing has led to the results in
- 3:43Speaker 3: that like his strikeout rate, it's better than Paul's schemes.
- 3:47Speaker 3: That's where his strikeout rate is. And one of the
- 3:49Speaker 3: things I look at I like to look at strikeout
- 3:52Speaker 3: rate minus walk rate. It's it's really simplistic, but if
- 3:56Speaker 3: you're a starting pitcher and you strike out a bunch
- 3:58Speaker 3: of guys and you don't walk a bunch of guys,
- 4:00Speaker 3: you're gonna be pretty good.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And he has the.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Fourth highest K minus walk rate in baseball, and the
- 4:08Speaker 3: guys surrounding him like he's just behind the grom, He's
- 4:11Speaker 3: just ahead of schemes.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:13Speaker 3: What he's doing is leading to the results. This isn't like, Wow,
- 4:17Speaker 3: he's just getting hit hard and they're making plays. No,
- 4:20Speaker 3: this is this is legit. What now can he continue
- 4:24Speaker 3: at this rate? That's the question. But what he has
- 4:26Speaker 3: done so far is legit, and I feel like you
- 4:28Speaker 3: have to keep that in the rotation. So I think
- 4:31Speaker 3: six man is dev I've always thought six man was
- 4:35Speaker 3: an option at some point anyway, because I think if
- 4:39Speaker 3: you're the Mariners, you know, given where they are, this
- 4:43Speaker 3: isn't going to be part of the conversation. This is
- 4:44Speaker 3: just me looking at things and how things play out.
- 4:48Speaker 3: You know, innings if you get to playing a week,
- 4:51Speaker 3: two weeks, a month past the regular season, like where
- 4:55Speaker 3: where will the innings be for Kirby who's already among
- 4:58Speaker 3: the leaders and Gilbert who's already among the leaders.
- 5:00Speaker 2: That was never a.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Conversation last year in the Mariner's run because those guys
- 5:04Speaker 3: were hurt early and by the time they came back
- 5:07Speaker 3: they had complete runway with innings. So I didn't think
- 5:10Speaker 3: a six I thought six man was a possibility at
- 5:13Speaker 3: some point this season anyway, and maybe now is the
- 5:16Speaker 3: right time because I also think that Castile has earned
- 5:21Speaker 3: the right to try and figure it out. And I
- 5:23Speaker 3: thought his last start was certainly a step from the
- 5:26Speaker 3: right direction, and we've seen it this year that he
- 5:28Speaker 3: pitched great against the Yankees earlier this season. Right, So,
- 5:32Speaker 3: And there's also the other complicating part of this too,
- 5:36Speaker 3: is you're missing a couple of key guys in the bullpen,
- 5:38Speaker 3: and I guess you could ask yourself, Hey, could somebody
- 5:41Speaker 3: cover that spot in late innings for a couple of
- 5:45Speaker 3: weeks before you can get Brash and spireback. I think
- 5:47Speaker 3: that's also the complicating question that I don't have the
- 5:51Speaker 3: answer to that, but maybe one of those guys is
- 5:53Speaker 3: the answer for at least a couple of weeks.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I don't know. Gary Hill Junior joining us from Chicago
- 5:57Speaker 2: where he's on the Mariner's road trip to broadcast their
- 5:59Speaker 2: games this weekend and then starting in Houston with a
- 6:02Speaker 2: three game series against the trash Cans beginning on Monday. Gary,
- 6:07Speaker 2: you know baseball players have been being around them every day.
- 6:09Speaker 2: What creatures a habit and routine they are? If you
- 6:12Speaker 2: went to a six man rotation, how jumbling would that
- 6:15Speaker 2: be to the root the starting pitchers just psyche of
- 6:21Speaker 2: repetition and routine and long toss two days after a
- 6:24Speaker 2: start and bullpens, all the whole routine they go through
- 6:27Speaker 2: between starts being altered by having five days rest instead
- 6:31Speaker 2: of four.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think it would change all that much
- 6:34Speaker 3: because it's already kind of like that given off days
- 6:37Speaker 3: sprinkled in, so guys kind of go back and forth
- 6:40Speaker 3: between full rest and extra day of rest all the
- 6:43Speaker 3: time anyway, And the maritors have always tried, especially with
- 6:46Speaker 3: you look at Wou last year and what they tried
- 6:48Speaker 3: to do. They always tried to give him an extra
- 6:50Speaker 3: day anyway when they could, So I think it's something
- 6:54Speaker 3: they could adjust to pretty cleanly. In fact, I think
- 6:56Speaker 3: it's kind of funny to look at the numbers the
- 6:58Speaker 3: last couple of years, four guys on normal rest and
- 7:02Speaker 3: with an extra day rest. For the most part, the
- 7:05Speaker 3: numbers are better with the extra day. So I'm kind
- 7:10Speaker 3: of curious if they went to a six man just experimentally,
- 7:14Speaker 3: what that would look like in terms of numbers. Like
- 7:17Speaker 3: it is. One thing, there also is the argument, hey,
- 7:20Speaker 3: you're Wu was pitching one less time, right, because it's
- 7:25Speaker 3: there's an extra guy in between, and you want him
- 7:27Speaker 3: pitching as much as possible. So I certainly understand both
- 7:29Speaker 3: sides of it, which is why I think this is
- 7:31Speaker 3: a very complicated question. I don't think the answer is
- 7:35Speaker 3: really straightforward at this point.
- 7:37Speaker 2: And is it also because it's early May? Is this
- 7:40Speaker 2: do you think that maybe lends itself to doing it?
- 7:42Speaker 1: Then?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Say, if it was August or September when you were
- 7:45Speaker 2: narrowing your list of pitchers trying to get to a pennant.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Sure, and then and I also think context is super
- 7:52Speaker 3: important when you talk about that too. If it's August
- 7:55Speaker 3: when you're eight games up in the division, oh, six
- 7:57Speaker 3: man would be great if you're trying to chase somebody
- 7:59Speaker 3: down and your two games back, like you're trying to
- 8:02Speaker 3: throw your guys out as much as possible to climb
- 8:05Speaker 3: into that position. So I think that is certainly a
- 8:08Speaker 3: factor too. And I think context is really important right
- 8:10Speaker 3: now because despite how the Mariners have gone so far,
- 8:14Speaker 3: a couple of games under five hundred, the division has
- 8:16Speaker 3: certainly not gone anywhere. In fact, you can say that
- 8:19Speaker 3: about the American League in general. So all the goals
- 8:22Speaker 3: the Mariners had at the beginning of the season. It's
- 8:25Speaker 3: all right there. I mean, the division is right there
- 8:27Speaker 3: for the Mariners. We could talk after this road trip
- 8:31Speaker 3: and the Mariners could be a couple of games up
- 8:33Speaker 3: on the A's in the division. That's they're a week
- 8:36Speaker 3: away from, like, Okay, things are settled, things are feeling better,
- 8:41Speaker 3: back of the top, you know that sort of thing.
- 8:43Speaker 3: And this feels like an opportunity road trip for the
- 8:47Speaker 3: Mariners in that regard because Chicago, although they are better
- 8:50Speaker 3: than they've been the last couple of years, that might
- 8:52Speaker 3: not be saying a ton because they've been pretty bad
- 8:54Speaker 3: the last couple of years, so they won't be a pushover.
- 8:57Speaker 3: But that four gamer in Houston is a real opportunity
- 9:01Speaker 3: as well because you kind of listen to people talking
- 9:03Speaker 3: around the Astros right now, they're talking about this homestand
- 9:06Speaker 3: with the Mariners and Rangers as a season defining home
- 9:09Speaker 3: stand already because that's how poorly things have gone in Houston.
- 9:13Speaker 3: So it feels like an opportunity for the Mariners to
- 9:16Speaker 3: really put a nice string together coming off of the
- 9:18Speaker 3: series win against Atlanta, but also land a big blow
- 9:22Speaker 3: against the division fall and.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Then they come home, they played the Padres, who are rolling.
- 9:26Speaker 2: The have been rolling most of the season anyway. Then
- 9:28Speaker 2: they get the White Sox again at home, and then
- 9:30Speaker 2: they go to Kansas City and to Sacramento to play
- 9:32Speaker 2: the A's. So you're right, there's an opportunity here for sure.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Gary Hill Junior joining us from Chicago about what you
- 9:40Speaker 2: just said. Do you think the Mariners feel that the
- 9:43Speaker 2: players in the clubhouse believe the same thing, that they're
- 9:46Speaker 2: a five game winning streak and from first place, and
- 9:48Speaker 2: that this division is so ripe to be had. Yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I think they've been confident the whole time. I think
- 9:55Speaker 3: they feel like they're a better team than how they
- 9:57Speaker 3: played so far this season. I think I think everyone's
- 10:00Speaker 3: kind of frustrated about how things have gone so far.
- 10:03Speaker 3: And I think the frustrating thing for me looking at
- 10:06Speaker 3: it is they had a great road trip last time
- 10:08Speaker 3: coming home to Kansas City and it felt like, Okay,
- 10:12Speaker 3: here they go, and then they lost a couple of
- 10:15Speaker 3: winnable games.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:16Speaker 3: You know, WU has a bad start against Kansas City
- 10:18Speaker 3: in game one, they might make a bunch of mistakes
- 10:20Speaker 3: in game two. It feels like it's funny because you
- 10:24Speaker 3: can look back that series you take those two games,
- 10:26Speaker 3: you win the series against Atlanta, it feels like an
- 10:28Speaker 3: extended stretch of good baseball. But that's not what happened
- 10:31Speaker 3: in the Kansas City series, so they kind of started
- 10:33Speaker 3: over against Atlanta. But yeah, I still think they believe
- 10:38Speaker 3: they're a very good team, and I think they have
- 10:40Speaker 3: a lot of confidence. They just don't feel like they've
- 10:43Speaker 3: played their great their best baseball yet. I don't think
- 10:46Speaker 3: they haven't played their best baseball yet. So I think
- 10:48Speaker 3: they're a very confident group and they should be. They
- 10:51Speaker 3: should be a confident group because they're a good team.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Gary a couple of roster house cleaning things. Is it
- 10:56Speaker 2: pretty much a FATA companye that Bryce Miller comes back
- 10:59Speaker 2: and starts that on Monday on his normal turn in Houston.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I haven't That's a good question.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I don't know how that will work. I'm guessing that
- 11:10Speaker 3: will probably be it, but I don't know. I don't
- 11:12Speaker 3: want to say, because I'm not sure. I haven't had
- 11:14Speaker 3: any conversations with anyone about how that will play out.
- 11:17Speaker 2: And and Brendan Donovan, I believe is in Chicago with
- 11:20Speaker 2: the team. Is that right or if you know.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I've not laid eyes on him yet. I'm going
- 11:24Speaker 3: to the ballpark right after this, but I think that
- 11:27Speaker 3: is the thing we can all assume, which that's gonna
- 11:31Speaker 3: be great for the meritis. He's been badly missed, I think,
- 11:35Speaker 3: at the top of the lineup for the Mariners, and
- 11:37Speaker 3: I feel like we have not seen the offense yet intact,
- 11:41Speaker 3: because he was really hitting early in the season, getting
- 11:44Speaker 3: on base, but the middle of the order struggled so much.
- 11:47Speaker 3: And then you know, we've seen Naylor get it going
- 11:49Speaker 3: and Julio's been better, but we haven't seen it intact
- 11:54Speaker 3: and all together. And jpmis the beginning of the season,
- 11:57Speaker 3: so I feel like this is going to be the
- 11:59Speaker 3: first time we would get to see that. I just
- 12:02Speaker 3: think he's going to make a huge difference at the top,
- 12:05Speaker 3: setting the table and then the domino effect moving JP
- 12:09Speaker 3: to the bottom, I think is going to really help
- 12:11Speaker 3: that as well. It makes the lineup so much longer
- 12:14Speaker 3: than it's been. So I'm looking forward to him being
- 12:16Speaker 3: back at the top because I think he's a real
- 12:18Speaker 3: difference maker.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I agree with you there, Gary cayl Rally, we knew
- 12:22Speaker 2: the side injury the three days three days back from
- 12:26Speaker 2: missing that, I should say two games back from that. Oh,
- 12:29Speaker 2: he's zero for eight with five strikeouts in those two games.
- 12:32Speaker 2: He's yet to come back to catcher. Are you expecting
- 12:35Speaker 2: to look like he's going to catch at any time
- 12:37Speaker 2: of this road trip? And would he possibly move down
- 12:40Speaker 2: or just move the lineup around to put him in
- 12:42Speaker 2: a different spot to try to get him going. What
- 12:44Speaker 2: do you think is going to happen there? Just write
- 12:45Speaker 2: it out the way it is.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, he looked like a guy that had missed a
- 12:49Speaker 3: few days the last two games, I thought. And for
- 12:51Speaker 3: a guy that doesn't miss a few days all right, right,
- 12:53Speaker 3: I mean, you know, he's the guy that essentially plays
- 12:56Speaker 3: every single game, and so he's not accustomed to missing
- 13:00Speaker 3: games in a row. And so that's kind of what
- 13:01Speaker 3: it felt like to me, Like he he missed the
- 13:03Speaker 3: balls over the plate that I don't think you would
- 13:06Speaker 3: normally miss. I think the good thing, like the thing
- 13:09Speaker 3: you were really hoping you wouldn't see is like take
- 13:12Speaker 3: a swing and then grab the side something like that.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Never saw that, which is great. I'm really curious to
- 13:18Speaker 3: your question about what the roster move is going to
- 13:21Speaker 3: be today when assuming Donovan's added, because I think that's
- 13:25Speaker 3: gonna that's going to answer your question, because if they
- 13:29Speaker 3: move Parreta off the roster, for example, it means, yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 3: Kal's gonna start catching and they'll have two catchers back
- 13:35Speaker 3: on the roster. If they move somebody else off the
- 13:38Speaker 3: roster for Donovan and they keep three catchers, I think
- 13:41Speaker 3: that answers your question the other way, that that would
- 13:43Speaker 3: tell me that he's gonna dh quite a bit moving forward,
- 13:47Speaker 3: which I think is an option. I think that the
- 13:50Speaker 3: key is as much as he brings you behind the
- 13:53Speaker 3: plate and working with the pitching staff, which he brings
- 13:56Speaker 3: you a ton. Clearly, the bat is really important to
- 14:00Speaker 3: the Mariners, and getting Cal back to being cal is
- 14:04Speaker 3: really important to the Mariners. So if that takes nursing
- 14:08Speaker 3: this long and having three catches on the roster, I
- 14:12Speaker 3: think that is well worth it. I think that it
- 14:16Speaker 3: makes it difficult, I think because it leaves you you know,
- 14:19Speaker 3: they played the last couple of games really without a
- 14:21Speaker 3: backup infielder, right. You know, I guess Connor Joe has
- 14:24Speaker 3: got an emergency guy, or maybe Mitch Garver was the
- 14:27Speaker 3: emergency guy at third base. You know, they played the
- 14:29Speaker 3: last couple of games like that they would have to.
- 14:31Speaker 3: With Donovan coming back, they'll have a little more flexibility
- 14:34Speaker 3: in that way. But I think it's worth that going
- 14:38Speaker 3: through that if that's what it takes to make sure
- 14:41Speaker 3: Cal is healthy in the long term. So I'm as
- 14:43Speaker 3: anxious as everyone to see what the move is today
- 14:45Speaker 3: because I think that's going to tell us where Cal
- 14:47Speaker 3: is at moving forward.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Great point talking about Brendon Donovan coming back to the Mariners.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Likely we we're expecting the roster move to come today
- 14:54Speaker 2: before the four forty first pitch that Gary Hill Junior
- 14:57Speaker 2: will be calling on the Mariners radio network. Gary, I
- 14:59Speaker 2: know you got to catch a bus to the park.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I don't want you to ride the L or take
- 15:03Speaker 2: an uber, so I'll let you go. I've done the
- 15:06Speaker 2: y L to the South side of Chicago. It's not
- 15:08Speaker 2: an easy fun trip.
- 15:09Speaker 1: But thanks.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Thanks a.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I appreciate you looking out for Yeah, at least.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I could do.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I have a great week. I have a great trip,
- 15:18Speaker 2: thanks Gary, Gary Hill Junior, the Mariners broadcaster in Chicago. Yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 2: the L through the from downtown Chicago to Komiski Park
- 15:28Speaker 2: is a very interesting adventure. It's the subway system in Chicago.
- 15:34Speaker 2: But he's there for three days and then the Mariners
- 15:36Speaker 2: go Monday, and garys saying that the expectation around the
- 15:40Speaker 2: team Brendon Donovan joining the team in Chicago with the
- 15:43Speaker 2: expectation that he will be activated to play today. And
- 15:45Speaker 2: his good point is if they send down the third catcher, Breda,
- 15:51Speaker 2: then that means, crowd, we're always probably catching or at
- 15:54Speaker 2: least getting back to catching after his injury in the side,
- 15:56Speaker 2: they keep Breda, don't send him to the COMA, that's
- 15:59Speaker 2: an indication that Raleigh is still going to stay in
- 16:02Speaker 2: DH and perhaps he's not fully fully fully healthy, and
- 16:05Speaker 2: that today's roster move may signal that drive us when
- 16:10Speaker 2: we talk every week we talked to Gary, he still
- 16:12Speaker 2: has this he represents with the players in the clubhouse
- 16:15Speaker 2: that they're confident that they and the division is absolutely
- 16:20Speaker 2: there to take and he hasn't waivered in that at all.
- 16:23Speaker 2: And it's only May. But it's got to be decent
- 16:25Speaker 2: for I know he's paid by the Mariners, but he's
- 16:27Speaker 2: been consistent in that regard and that's got to be
- 16:29Speaker 2: good for Mariner fans there.
- 16:30Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely, I mean it's good that the morale there
- 16:34Speaker 4: is is strong and that you know, they feel that
- 16:38Speaker 4: the division is theirs is I mean they.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Should feel that it's it's up for graps.
- 16:44Speaker 4: So they just need to, you know, get some bats
- 16:46Speaker 4: on balls, get the offense going.
- 16:49Speaker 5: I think they'll be they'll be good.
- 16:52Speaker 2: You think, I say, Chris and I have this all
- 16:55Speaker 2: the time, what color flag it is, and nowhere does
- 16:57Speaker 2: it get near red unless it's post All Star Break
- 17:00Speaker 2: or even end of July. If it's still like this,
- 17:03Speaker 2: I think, oh yeah.
- 17:04Speaker 4: I mean it's still so early in the season. We
- 17:06Speaker 4: were talking about this, like after a couple of weeks,
- 17:10Speaker 4: like should we be worried? Are the Mariners doomed? And
- 17:13Speaker 4: like we're still early early season. It's you know, we
- 17:16Speaker 4: have a lot of a lot of games to play.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I know it's not time in May eighth to look
- 17:21Speaker 2: at the standings, but the standings gave great context in
- 17:24Speaker 2: this case to what we're talking about. Nineteen and eighteen
- 17:27Speaker 2: leads the division. The A's are nineteen and eighteen, the
- 17:31Speaker 2: Mariners are eighteen and twenty. That's only a game and
- 17:33Speaker 2: a half. Yeah, I mean that's a weekend that and
- 17:37Speaker 2: as Gary Hill Junior just told us this weekend against
- 17:39Speaker 2: Chicago could be that weekend to start making a movie.
- 17:41Speaker 2: And then you got the trash Cans and their pitching
- 17:44Speaker 2: staff is just yeah, pretty awful. Yeah. And so the
- 17:48Speaker 2: trash Cans are back to three, back of the Mariners,
- 17:51Speaker 2: back tied for the last place with the Angels at
- 17:53Speaker 2: fifteen and twenty three. There is we mentioned this the
- 17:56Speaker 2: other day. There is only two teams. There are only
- 18:00Speaker 2: two teams I should say that are anywhere nearly a
- 18:04Speaker 2: way above five hundred in the American League. They're both
- 18:06Speaker 2: in the East. The Yankees and the Rays are plus
- 18:08Speaker 2: fourteen and plus thirteen above five hundred. Everybody else is
- 18:12Speaker 2: one game over five hundred or worse. The best record
- 18:16Speaker 2: in the American League Central Cleveland one game over five hundred.
- 18:19Speaker 2: In the West, the best is that the A's are
- 18:22Speaker 2: one game over five. That's it. So nobody's going anywhere.
- 18:25Speaker 5: Yeah, that's gotta get No reason to panic.
- 18:27Speaker 2: No reason to panic. Just keep going for bobbleheads and
- 18:29Speaker 2: fireworks and enjoy the beautiful weather. We'll be all right.
- 18:32Speaker 2: But July or August, that's it. Up next your chance
- 18:36Speaker 2: to be a part of the show as it is
- 18:37Speaker 2: every Day at eleven thirty, the Tacoma Dodge text line
- 18:39Speaker 2: four nine four to five on we have some great
- 18:41Speaker 2: Mother's Day memories and remembrances. If you have any like
- 18:44Speaker 2: to share read them on the air. I hope you
- 18:47Speaker 2: can be with your mother. Or if you're a mother
- 18:49Speaker 2: out there, hat's off to you for doing what you do.
- 18:52Speaker 2: We're you back your text next, and then at eleven
- 18:54Speaker 2: forty five, the Mayor and Maple Valley Will joined me
- 18:57Speaker 2: before his show from twelve until three on ninety three
- 18:59Speaker 2: point three kJ r FM.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Now back to Greg Bell and Christopher Kidd on your
- 19:07Speaker 1: Home for the Huskies Cracket and the twelfth Man Sports
- 19:10Speaker 1: Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Greg Bell Show with Christopher Kidd.
- 19:22Speaker 2: But Christopher kids not here, so Travis Muger is on
- 19:25Speaker 2: ninety three point three kJ r FM. Yes, this is
- 19:28Speaker 2: the new show. It's still three weeks in. I guess
- 19:32Speaker 2: it is, but it's permanent, at least as permanent as
- 19:34Speaker 2: his business can be.
- 19:35Speaker 5: How are you feeling. How's it going for you?
- 19:37Speaker 2: I appreciate that. It's great. Great to be I didn't
- 19:39Speaker 2: go anywhere. I was always on the air with in
- 19:41Speaker 2: the mornings with Chuck. But it's great your permanent fixture.
- 19:44Speaker 2: It's great to be back. It's great all the support,
- 19:47Speaker 2: the text line and people calling in and writing and thanks.
- 19:51Speaker 2: It's nice to be welcome back. And it's good to
- 19:53Speaker 2: be with Travis again. Like they said, it's like super
- 19:55Speaker 2: Bowl week again. We did those shows. But yep, this
- 19:58Speaker 2: is a new show ten to noon, and I am
- 20:01Speaker 2: very appreciative of the support and thanks.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Fun Yeah, we love we love having you.
- 20:06Speaker 6: Greg.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Appreciate that, man. Thanks good to be back. Do you
- 20:10Speaker 2: know what time it is? The music four nine, four
- 20:12Speaker 2: or five one? The Tacoma Dodge text on your chance
- 20:14Speaker 2: to be a part of the show. You have anything
- 20:16Speaker 2: Travis that jumps out to you. I got a couple
- 20:19Speaker 2: of things.
- 20:21Speaker 5: Good question.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Well, we'll start with it was it's pretty funny from
- 20:26Speaker 2: Nick in the two oh six. Why would you play
- 20:29Speaker 2: that replay of with Tumbo and the Nuggets beating the Sonic?
- 20:34Speaker 5: Fair question?
- 20:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I hear you, worst, he said. Nick says worst
- 20:38Speaker 2: Seattle sports moment until Super Bowl interception. Malcolm Butler. Yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 2: I only played it for context to those who aren't
- 20:45Speaker 2: in Seattle to understand. First of all, Yeah, we did
- 20:48Speaker 2: have an NBA team, and yeah, it was pretty damn good.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And that year they were the number one seed, and
- 20:53Speaker 2: how a couple seasons of just bitter disappointment spawned. The
- 20:57Speaker 2: greatest of that post was nineteen seventy nine World Championship Sonics.
- 21:02Speaker 2: I should say I was gonna say the greatest season
- 21:03Speaker 2: Sonics history when they were sixty four wins and went
- 21:06Speaker 2: to the NBA Finals against Jordan's Bulls. Another tech line
- 21:10Speaker 2: person brought up and I find it somewhere they wis
- 21:16Speaker 2: about the Jordan It made it. Oh yeah, the two
- 21:19Speaker 2: oh six and we missed that opportunity while Jordan was
- 21:22Speaker 2: playing baseball. That's a great point. Nineteen ninety four, when
- 21:25Speaker 2: the Sonics were the number one seed, Michael Jordan was
- 21:27Speaker 2: in Birmingham, Alabama playing for the Barons at Double A baseball.
- 21:32Speaker 2: He had quit the NBA and that was the Sonics
- 21:35Speaker 2: window right there. Then when they finally did not get
- 21:38Speaker 2: beat in their first round of the playoffs and make
- 21:40Speaker 2: the NBA Finals two years later, Jordan was back. Yeah,
- 21:44Speaker 2: the baseball was over the time. Yeah, so that is
- 21:47Speaker 2: a great point. We at the top of the show
- 21:49Speaker 2: your favorite Mother's Day Memories and we have a couple
- 21:52Speaker 2: three six to oh more than a couple, actually three six,
- 21:55Speaker 2: so says my birthday is Sunday. Was a commercial fisherman
- 22:00Speaker 2: thirty seven years in the Bearing Sea commercial fisheries. The
- 22:02Speaker 2: best Mother's Day ever was when I made it home
- 22:05Speaker 2: from sea to celebrate with my mom. She's been gone
- 22:07Speaker 2: since twenty thirteen, but I always think of our Mother's
- 22:10Speaker 2: Day adventures. That's really cool. Thanks for sharing that.
- 22:13Speaker 5: Very cool.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that's great. And if you have memories like that's those,
- 22:17Speaker 2: it's always so worth it that if you make an
- 22:20Speaker 2: effort or I fly back to Detroit and see my mom.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Every time I do it, I'm like, wow, I need
- 22:24Speaker 2: to do this more often. Even now it's more for
- 22:27Speaker 2: me than for her. But two six, two six, I
- 22:30Speaker 2: should say. Lost my mom last month after a short
- 22:33Speaker 2: out of the blue cancer diagnosis. So this one's gonna
- 22:36Speaker 2: be tough. Thanks for the memories. The best was Emerald Downs.
- 22:39Speaker 2: You haven't lived until you've enjoyed a red beer under
- 22:42Speaker 2: the sun watching the ponies with two dollars on every race.
- 22:46Speaker 2: That's great. And our condolence is losing a parent. Is
- 22:50Speaker 2: that's hard, really tough? Yeah, it's not like you can
- 22:53Speaker 2: practice that stuff. Happy Mother's Day again to all of
- 22:58Speaker 2: you out there. If your mother or you have mother
- 23:02Speaker 2: and you fortunately have to be near your mother and
- 23:03Speaker 2: your mother's still living and you can be with her,
- 23:06Speaker 2: enjoy it. It's a great time. And yeah, that's really cool.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Here's one from the two five to three going back
- 23:12Speaker 4: to the Aosts. The AOST is a garbage division. Being
- 23:16Speaker 4: eighteen and twenty games overall and eight name in the
- 23:18Speaker 4: division just shows how bad this team is. They have
- 23:21Speaker 4: the talent, but they are bad in terms of baseball
- 23:23Speaker 4: I Q. They make plays that you wouldn't see from
- 23:25Speaker 4: high school teams.
- 23:27Speaker 2: There's a little harsh, there is some truth to that,
- 23:29Speaker 2: but yeah, there is truth to that. Running on a
- 23:34Speaker 2: two to two pitch with the basis loaded thicket it's
- 23:36Speaker 2: three two, like Randy rose Arena did on the last Yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 2: you wouldn't see a high school team do that.
- 23:41Speaker 4: They need to also get better with their challenges, I think,
- 23:43Speaker 4: or use them. I feel like they're being very hesitant
- 23:47Speaker 4: with the abs challenges.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah, or you could be like the Braves catcher the
- 23:51Speaker 2: other day and use them both in the first top
- 23:53Speaker 2: of the first na. Yeah, you see that then the
- 23:55Speaker 2: first ten pitches they were out of them got them wrong. Yeah,
- 23:59Speaker 2: this is really nice into two, five, three. Well, Greg,
- 24:03Speaker 2: another week and your show still sucks. He lol, but
- 24:07Speaker 2: it's gotten a little better. L A m O. Happy
- 24:11Speaker 2: Mother's Day to your family. Would have a great weekend people.
- 24:17Speaker 4: I mean, I'm hoping that was maybe a little sarcastic,
- 24:21Speaker 4: you know, a little, a little rially.
- 24:23Speaker 2: There's there's an axiom in life if you can think,
- 24:26Speaker 2: you don't have to say everything you think.
- 24:28Speaker 4: But I do that with my son all the time
- 24:31Speaker 4: because he'll just say something to someone that is not
- 24:34Speaker 4: necessarily nice.
- 24:35Speaker 5: And he's eight, right, thank you.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I'll be like, you know what, Milo, you don't have
- 24:42Speaker 4: to say everything you think, and if it's not nice,
- 24:46Speaker 4: maybe keep it to yourself.
- 24:49Speaker 5: He doesn't have his frontal cortex, y not fully developed.
- 24:52Speaker 2: You that's okay, eight. I don't think this guy's gall's
- 24:56Speaker 2: eight years old. Texted me that, but okay, you know
- 24:59Speaker 2: it's off to you. Have a great We could too.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I hate your guts. You're absolutely horrible. Have a great weekend.
- 25:05Speaker 5: I like you're taking the high road.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Greg. You know whatever, that's why we love you. Appreciate it.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Two five three, Greg, not only was Jordan gone. We
- 25:14Speaker 2: owned the Rockets during those years, and they won the
- 25:16Speaker 2: championships twice, I believe. Yeah, during the regular season, that's true.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Three six, Oh, McMillan was hurt against the Bulls. I
- 25:23Speaker 2: believe he didn't play the first two games. Healthy McMillan.
- 25:25Speaker 2: That series is different. But yes, the year they were
- 25:27Speaker 2: upset by the Nuggets was the year they should have
- 25:29Speaker 2: won it. Yeah, they should have won it all. Two six, Hey,
- 25:34Speaker 2: Travis knows to play the porn music background to the
- 25:36Speaker 2: text for Chris and I have already joke that this
- 25:39Speaker 2: sounds like Boogie Knights on the radio. It does a
- 25:43Speaker 2: listener and our first go around said, that's is that
- 25:46Speaker 2: porn music.
- 25:48Speaker 5: I was to play the porn music at the eleven
- 25:51Speaker 5: thirty block.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I don't know where Chris found this music. But two
- 25:55Speaker 2: five three Mariners the Aos is a garbage division. Being
- 25:59Speaker 2: eighteen twenty overall eight and eight in the division just
- 26:02Speaker 2: shows how bad this team is. They have the talent,
- 26:06Speaker 2: but they are bad in terms of baseball. I think
- 26:08Speaker 2: you already read I did read that.
- 26:09Speaker 5: Yeah, sorry, I mean it's worth repeating.
- 26:11Speaker 2: It's very repeated. Oh Man, here's.
- 26:17Speaker 4: One steven and the four two five. I think the
- 26:20Speaker 4: six man rotation makes the most sense to save the
- 26:22Speaker 4: arms come playoff.
- 26:23Speaker 5: Time, which is refreshed.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Uh.
- 26:28Speaker 4: They did do a much bigger note I think is
- 26:30Speaker 4: we can please move Julio to the two hole in
- 26:32Speaker 4: Naylor to the three hole.
- 26:33Speaker 5: Move Cal of the four hole with Donovan leading off.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Ah. I was hinting at that with Gary Hill Junior
- 26:38Speaker 2: last segment about what they move probably down perhaps from two.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Two's great if you're hitting home runs getting on base
- 26:45Speaker 2: all the time, but when you're not, it's kind.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Of hurting hitting the team.
- 26:50Speaker 2: It is hurting the team you get out stra at
- 26:52Speaker 2: bats like that. Let's see uh two O six. I
- 26:58Speaker 2: will admit it that Bulls team was the team ever constructed,
- 27:01Speaker 2: But we beat them three times that year. We're talking
- 27:03Speaker 2: ninety five ninety six season. We weren't two fall far
- 27:06Speaker 2: behind them. Maybe that Sonics team was the second best ever.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I'd put them up against any team other than that
- 27:12Speaker 2: Bulls team that beat us for the championship. I agree
- 27:16Speaker 2: the man they were. Those were fun, silky smooth, Sam
- 27:20Speaker 2: Perkins shooting threes and shrimp and camp and Gary Payton
- 27:25Speaker 2: in the old Seattle Center Coliseum. When I first got
- 27:28Speaker 2: stationed at Fort Lewis as a second lieutenant at a
- 27:30Speaker 2: West Point, I went up to the I'll never forget
- 27:34Speaker 2: it was in January's reigning. I went up about a
- 27:36Speaker 2: scalp ticker for like fifteen bucks to see the Knicks
- 27:39Speaker 2: and the Sonics at the old Seattle Center Coliseum in
- 27:42Speaker 2: nineteen ninety three, ninety three, early ninety four, probably January
- 27:46Speaker 2: ninety four, and Sean Kemp took off from the right
- 27:51Speaker 2: wing and dunked over damn near half the maybe the
- 27:57Speaker 2: entire Knicks lineup on the floor, and I thought the
- 28:00Speaker 2: roof was going to come down. It was so loud
- 28:02Speaker 2: in there. The old Coliseum building was just so loud.
- 28:06Speaker 2: And I mean I would I had never been to
- 28:09Speaker 2: a Sonics game before the old c First Bank advertisements
- 28:12Speaker 2: on the on the side boards of the the side
- 28:15Speaker 2: of the court and center court, and I just I
- 28:18Speaker 2: that moment is etched in my mind as I could
- 28:21Speaker 2: not be Wow, this isn't this is an incredible sporting experience.
- 28:24Speaker 2: This building this loud for every a regular season game.
- 28:27Speaker 2: It's like I said, January against the Knicks, it was
- 28:31Speaker 2: so loud in there, and then Key Arena and you
- 28:33Speaker 2: can rip the arena and everyone did. And the concourses
- 28:36Speaker 2: was narrow and parking, and but man, it was loud.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Off that season that they went to the NBA Finals
- 28:43Speaker 2: was just off the hook. And I can remember Marv
- 28:45Speaker 2: Albert and Bob Costas, an NBC's crew that flew out
- 28:50Speaker 2: here for those finals games, could not get over They
- 28:53Speaker 2: kept talking about how loud that building was. Yeah, in
- 28:55Speaker 2: ninety five ninety six season for the Sonics when they
- 28:59Speaker 2: were go all the way the NBA.
- 29:00Speaker 5: Finals, Seattle fans have been known to get loud for all.
- 29:04Speaker 2: The national narrative about this is not a basketball town
- 29:07Speaker 2: and the Sonics were that's absolute trash. This is absolutely
- 29:12Speaker 2: a basketball area. They supported the Sonics. This team won
- 29:15Speaker 2: an NBA championship in nineteen seventy nine, only when Howard
- 29:19Speaker 2: Schultz sold them literally to carpetbaggers, and they this carpetbagged
- 29:25Speaker 2: the team and made it unwatchable. And then all all
- 29:27Speaker 2: of a sudden, Ki Arena, No one wants to go there. Well,
- 29:29Speaker 2: the team sucked and they had new ownership and then
- 29:32Speaker 2: they left, and then everyone in the narrative is that
- 29:34Speaker 2: Seattle didn't support the Sonics. That's absolutely false and anyway,
- 29:38Speaker 2: it's ridiculous and ky Arena. It didn't have the sweets
- 29:41Speaker 2: and all that, but it was a fine You could
- 29:45Speaker 2: you were close to the court. The seats were pretty
- 29:46Speaker 2: close to the court. You were in there.
- 29:48Speaker 4: I went to the last season the Sonics were here.
- 29:51Speaker 4: I went to some games.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and I thought it was an outstanding place to
- 29:54Speaker 2: watch a game.
- 29:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I saw it was very intimate. It did feel
- 29:57Speaker 5: very close to the court.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Yeah, really loud, and yeah, the revisionist history. Anyone who's
- 30:03Speaker 2: here in those times know what I'm talking about.
- 30:05Speaker 4: But yeah, I just hope that when they come back,
- 30:10Speaker 4: that the NBA hasn't lost too many of the local
- 30:13Speaker 4: fans because of what happened with the Sonics, you know,
- 30:16Speaker 4: twenty years ago.
- 30:17Speaker 2: No, I get it. There is an anti NBA sentiment
- 30:21Speaker 2: for sure, well earned with what the league did to
- 30:25Speaker 2: us in two thousand and eight. At the beginning of
- 30:29Speaker 2: the week, I think the best thing we did on
- 30:30Speaker 2: this show all week was talking about coaching at the
- 30:33Speaker 2: youth sports and high school level and the epidemic really
- 30:38Speaker 2: of overbearing, entitled parents who are driving coaches out. Now.
- 30:42Speaker 2: I also wanted to clarify, and I think I've tried
- 30:44Speaker 2: to during that show. Not all coaches are like top notch,
- 30:50Speaker 2: first rate and shorter criticism, and a lot of there
- 30:54Speaker 2: are problems with coach, especially when they aren't affiliated with
- 30:57Speaker 2: I come from a state where you had to be
- 30:59Speaker 2: a teacher at the school to coach at the school.
- 31:01Speaker 2: But now there's so few people that want to coach
- 31:04Speaker 2: that most places have relaxed that. And I know out
- 31:06Speaker 2: here in Washington, in California where I lived before here
- 31:09Speaker 2: the Bay Area, that's not a rule, and people just
- 31:11Speaker 2: off the street off and coaching that weren't qualified to.
- 31:14Speaker 2: But anyway, one of the best things we did this
- 31:16Speaker 2: week was talk about this, and the four two five
- 31:18Speaker 2: is revisiting this here on the text line today. The
- 31:20Speaker 2: problem with high school athletics is principals and superintendents ninety
- 31:24Speaker 2: percent do not back their coaches. The young parents observe
- 31:28Speaker 2: parents whose athletes are ahead of them getting their way
- 31:32Speaker 2: with administrators. It's a vicious cycle for coaches. I agree,
- 31:36Speaker 2: and I think a lot of that goes back to
- 31:38Speaker 2: what I just mentioned that coaches for high school and
- 31:41Speaker 2: junior high athletics are not teachers at the school, so
- 31:44Speaker 2: the administrators don't have a relationship with them principals, and
- 31:49Speaker 2: because they have to field or want to field teams,
- 31:52Speaker 2: they end up settling for someone they don't have a
- 31:54Speaker 2: relationship with, just because those are the only coaches they
- 31:57Speaker 2: can find. It is official cycle because parents and administrators
- 32:02Speaker 2: often treat coaches poorly, so the coaches don't want to
- 32:05Speaker 2: do it, and then coaches don't want to do it
- 32:08Speaker 2: because they don't have a relationship with the administrators the principals.
- 32:12Speaker 2: When you're a teacher at in Ohio, you had to
- 32:15Speaker 2: be a teacher, and that's all we knew. We'd seen
- 32:17Speaker 2: them in lunch, we'd see them in class, we'd see
- 32:20Speaker 2: them in the hallway, and the administrators, the principals, they
- 32:24Speaker 2: had a relationship because they were school employees. They've been vetted.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Who knows what.
- 32:28Speaker 2: You get now from some coaches because they're so desperate
- 32:31Speaker 2: to just hire someone in some areas, they can't find
- 32:35Speaker 2: people to coach, and that also degrades the whole experience.
- 32:40Speaker 2: But again that is also separate from the fact of
- 32:43Speaker 2: parents who are driving out coaches who absolutely should be
- 32:45Speaker 2: there and then get railroaded out because parents don't like
- 32:49Speaker 2: that their kid didn't play, or that you lose five
- 32:52Speaker 2: games in a row when you're fired or whatever.
- 32:55Speaker 5: Yeah, it's kids playing.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Yeah, the parents that get all all you know, fired
- 33:01Speaker 4: up from their twelve year old playing baseball.
- 33:04Speaker 5: It boggles my mind.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Well that too, there's that too. Uh two o six dude,
- 33:10Speaker 2: Dobe is amazing. You have to go to the Dobaate Cafe.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I spent about ten summers doing a music festival there.
- 33:15Speaker 2: I've been to the Doughbay Cafe and eating on the
- 33:18Speaker 2: deck overlooking the water there, and it's, Oh, it's fantastic. Man,
- 33:21Speaker 2: an evening meal or a brunch even Oh, yes we
- 33:24Speaker 2: will do brunch. We'll probably do dinner at the Dobate
- 33:26Speaker 2: Cafe when we're at the beach side of yurt we're
- 33:29Speaker 2: headed to. We got a yurt just in case it
- 33:31Speaker 2: was going to rain, but now.
- 33:32Speaker 5: We don't really need the yurt, No, but good to
- 33:34Speaker 5: have it.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Yeah, anyone done yurt camping before. It's it's unique. It's
- 33:39Speaker 2: a very Northwest thing. Yeah, I like it, but it's different.
- 33:44Speaker 2: And forness's right outside the door. He's going to join
- 33:46Speaker 2: me next before his show starts on ninety three point
- 33:48Speaker 2: three kJ RFM.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Welcome back.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Today because he's in Louisiana for his sisters graduation from college.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Travis Moger has been in with me and we've been
- 34:06Speaker 2: having fun talking about the Seahawks. Seth Wickersham of ESPN
- 34:11Speaker 2: reporting that there's a quote soft interest in their sale
- 34:15Speaker 2: and spoke about how that may not be a bad thing.
- 34:17Speaker 6: There's not a soft interest in a sale? What does
- 34:19Speaker 6: that mean that? Oh, like there's not a lot of
- 34:22Speaker 6: people lining up.
- 34:23Speaker 2: That there aren't a lot of ten billion dollars.
- 34:25Speaker 6: So just the checks the two groups we heard yesterday
- 34:27Speaker 6: maybe are just fishing right now.
- 34:29Speaker 2: That's sort of the ESPN reportings and Furness the mayor
- 34:33Speaker 2: Maple Valley who show comes up next.
- 34:35Speaker 6: That's interesting.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Yes, there's a soft market, but as I pointed out,
- 34:40Speaker 2: there's no timeline, there's no rush for no Jody Allen
- 34:44Speaker 2: in the estate to find a buyer.
- 34:46Speaker 6: No, no, not at all. Yeah, that is interesting though,
- 34:49Speaker 6: that the defending Super Bowl champions in a in a
- 34:55Speaker 6: good market, in a league that every team not only
- 34:59Speaker 6: is every team make money, every team appreciates every year.
- 35:02Speaker 6: I mean, it's the best investment probably of any sports
- 35:04Speaker 6: property you can get as an NFL team, right, yep,
- 35:07Speaker 6: they print money, especially when you already have the stadium.
- 35:10Speaker 6: And really they've done renovations enough on the stadium. Really,
- 35:13Speaker 6: there's not much more you can do to that stadium, right,
- 35:15Speaker 6: like the stuff they did in the South End zone
- 35:17Speaker 6: and all like they've there's nothing you're gonna You're not
- 35:20Speaker 6: gonna rebuild or do anything like that. So there's no
- 35:22Speaker 6: huge investment in that regard. That's a great investment. So
- 35:25Speaker 6: for that to be a soft mart maybe God, could
- 35:28Speaker 6: it be that the market and the is softening all
- 35:33Speaker 6: the way around in sports?
- 35:35Speaker 2: Could be and in this town you get it ten eight,
- 35:40Speaker 2: well more like six or eight billion dollar price tag
- 35:42Speaker 2: sitting out there on the Sonics.
- 35:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm hearing more and more closer to six. There's
- 35:47Speaker 6: the stupid numbers that you get thrown around there. Yeah,
- 35:49Speaker 6: I just at some point doesn't pencil off for anybody. Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 6: it just doesn't, right, So yeah, maybe things are softening.
- 35:55Speaker 6: That a little bit interesting.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so what again, there's no time to able to
- 36:00Speaker 2: Jody Allen has to buy it in the league's The league,
- 36:03Speaker 2: of course, wants to get it done. Sooner than later,
- 36:05Speaker 2: so they can reset franchise valuations. But that's Jody Allen
- 36:08Speaker 2: has no impetus to take anything but the best deal.
- 36:11Speaker 6: The great Yeah, and that part of the equation reset
- 36:14Speaker 6: the franchise evaluations. They want to do that so kind
- 36:18Speaker 6: of knows where they stand in case somebody else wants
- 36:20Speaker 6: to sell right, correct, But if but they're not going
- 36:23Speaker 6: to want to go backwards or stay static. What did
- 36:26Speaker 6: the commanders sell.
- 36:27Speaker 2: For six point five billion? And so it'll go above
- 36:30Speaker 2: that or else they won't sell. The NFL will make
- 36:33Speaker 2: sure that they won't set a precedent of it. What
- 36:34Speaker 2: do you think the low end would be? If it's six, seven, eight,
- 36:38Speaker 2: seven or eight, they'll keep above six or else they
- 36:40Speaker 2: won't sell, right right right leg Yeah, yeah, Like do
- 36:43Speaker 2: you think it has to hit eight? Do you think
- 36:44Speaker 2: it'd be seven ish? I don't think it has to
- 36:47Speaker 2: hit eight. No, I think it has to be seven
- 36:49Speaker 2: or above so that it can stay above the last sale.
- 36:51Speaker 6: I think, see doesn't that just if we want to
- 36:54Speaker 6: use and this is just the dumbest thing in the
- 36:55Speaker 6: world that I'm going to say common sense in this world.
- 37:00Speaker 6: But if we were to use that in some way
- 37:03Speaker 6: wouldn't we think, Like, in what world would it make
- 37:07Speaker 6: sense for an NBA expansion franchise without the same level
- 37:11Speaker 6: of revenue streams and all that, even though the NBA
- 37:14Speaker 6: is good with the media to sell for more than that. No, Like,
- 37:18Speaker 6: it just doesn't make sense. No, not when the last
- 37:21Speaker 6: franchise sold for four The Blazers, right, you know, I
- 37:24Speaker 6: know they got issues with building and all that kind
- 37:26Speaker 6: of stuff, but they really don't. I mean, they're gonna
- 37:28Speaker 6: they're gonna renovate that as long as Dundin doesn't.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Up and go.
- 37:33Speaker 6: You know, their lease is the exact same tenure of
- 37:36Speaker 6: lease left then when as when clay bent and bought
- 37:39Speaker 6: Clayton bennettought the Sonics.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Oh great, three years, thanks for bringing that out. It's
- 37:44Speaker 2: Partland going to buy out the rest.
- 37:47Speaker 6: You know what I heard. I heard Wits yesterday with
- 37:49Speaker 6: Softy and Fain saying no chance, and and then I
- 37:52Speaker 6: heard Canzano two weeks ago say thirty percent chance. So
- 37:57Speaker 6: I don't think there's such a thing as no chance,
- 38:00Speaker 6: but it it it. I think just Dundan's I think
- 38:05Speaker 6: I just can't believe the NBA brought him into the club.
- 38:07Speaker 6: I just I just that. I can't fathom. That makes
- 38:10Speaker 6: no sense to.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Me, just because he had money. I mean, do they
- 38:13Speaker 2: not vet these people in Carolina? People will tell you
- 38:16Speaker 2: they run the hockey team poorly.
- 38:18Speaker 6: I bring it up all the time. Why do we
- 38:20Speaker 6: have the best play by play guy in the NHL
- 38:23Speaker 6: here in John Forceland? Because that guy is cheap. And
- 38:27Speaker 6: he decided he wanted to combine the broadcast me not Johnny. No,
- 38:33Speaker 6: he wanted to combine the broadcasts. And instead of having
- 38:36Speaker 6: John do assimulcast collaboro style like back in the day,
- 38:39Speaker 6: which is still bad broadcasting because one of the products
- 38:43Speaker 6: radio will take a back seat. But instead of doing that,
- 38:46Speaker 6: he said, now we're gonna bump up the radio guy,
- 38:48Speaker 6: pay him far less. And here we are like and
- 38:51Speaker 6: they're gonna do the same thing with the Blazers.
- 38:53Speaker 2: You know. So two six text lines said, could it
- 38:55Speaker 2: be Washington tax, politics and crime?
- 39:00Speaker 6: You've tangled that well, listen, I mean the millionaire's taxes,
- 39:04Speaker 6: no joke. Schneider's talked about it.
- 39:06Speaker 2: He has. But my point is, if you're paying billions
- 39:09Speaker 2: of dollars for a team, you're not worried about a tax,
- 39:12Speaker 2: a ten percent tax, because everywhere else you've made your money,
- 39:15Speaker 2: you've been taxed.
- 39:16Speaker 6: Right, depends on where your residency is though, right right, Yeah,
- 39:19Speaker 6: because the jock tax. Does a jock tax kick in
- 39:21Speaker 6: if a guy's here here and there.
- 39:23Speaker 2: I don't know the jock tax even applies to players
- 39:27Speaker 2: who are on visiting teams right place.
- 39:28Speaker 6: So does it apply to an owner his income?
- 39:32Speaker 2: Probably it probably would have on the income made in
- 39:34Speaker 2: the state, Yeah, his personal income wherever he lives.
- 39:39Speaker 6: No, but yeah, but if his personal incomes tied to
- 39:41Speaker 6: the sex yeah, yeah, listen that I truly believe that
- 39:46Speaker 6: that is. And I'm with Schneider because one of the
- 39:49Speaker 6: things we getting people to come here is free agents
- 39:52Speaker 6: is hard. Baseball team will tell you that, Hockey team
- 39:55Speaker 6: will tell you that. And Schneider's been able to get
- 39:57Speaker 6: some guys, but not everybody.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Right. I just don't think it's a deciding factor. I
- 40:02Speaker 2: think it's a factor. I think it's I think it
- 40:03Speaker 2: can be the tie breaker. Seawan Jenkins is the only
- 40:07Speaker 2: guy I've ever heard speak about. I was with the
- 40:09Speaker 2: forty nine ers and then I came here, and I
- 40:11Speaker 2: decided to come here because of the tax, right. But
- 40:13Speaker 2: but he wasn't top of the market million dollars.
- 40:15Speaker 6: But if all things being equal and you're looking at okay,
- 40:18Speaker 6: uh we what was our advantage over California.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Well, everybody has an advantage over thirty percent tax.
- 40:25Speaker 6: Right, but California's got son we don't. But we also
- 40:28Speaker 6: you're in the salary cap league. Your eight million dollar salary. Yeah,
- 40:33Speaker 6: well let's just say ten freeze are even say your
- 40:34Speaker 6: ten million dollars salary in our in our state is
- 40:38Speaker 6: more than a ten million dollar salary in California, right,
- 40:40Speaker 6: And that's I think that makes a big difference. I
- 40:43Speaker 6: know it's going to make a difference in the hockey team.
- 40:44Speaker 6: One hundred percent of will one hundred percent. Well, because
- 40:47Speaker 6: the contracts are smaller. Yeah, but they're all still over
- 40:49Speaker 6: a million, you know, so we'll see. But yeah, maybe
- 40:52Speaker 6: that's that could be part of it.
- 40:53Speaker 5: Who knows.
- 40:54Speaker 2: So that's why Austin Matthews.
- 40:55Speaker 5: Won't come here.
- 40:56Speaker 6: Austin Matthews is born in Arizona.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I know he's kid.
- 41:00Speaker 6: He's going to be a king, a duck or a Utah.
- 41:03Speaker 5: Yeah why Utah.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Because it used to be Arizona.
- 41:07Speaker 6: Well, Utah's Utah is like a forty minute plane ride
- 41:10Speaker 6: to Arizona and the weather's better. To be honest with you,
- 41:14Speaker 6: it's sunny there all right.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Now, I'm way late, I'm in trouble. What do you
- 41:17Speaker 2: get Today?
- 41:18Speaker 6: Rob Rang will wrap up a rookie mini camp with us.
- 41:21Speaker 6: He was out there and is with his BC Lions
- 41:23Speaker 6: scouting gear. So we'll talk to him on two twenty Today,
- 41:28Speaker 6: Danie O'Neil at one twenty and the John Harlow Conversation
- 41:31Speaker 6: with Jess coming up at two o'clock.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Washington State Athletic Director. You know Rob Rang, Your listeners
- 41:35Speaker 2: know he's a scout.
- 41:36Speaker 6: Yeah, we always bring that, okay, Yeah, Yeah, he's out
- 41:39Speaker 6: there trying to poach guys off of Schneider's rookie mini camp.
- 41:42Speaker 6: So we'll talk about that.
- 41:44Speaker 2: On the tech sign. Why don't you just hanging in
- 41:46Speaker 2: about how much he loves watching NBA playoff basketball. You
- 41:48Speaker 2: can have a whole discussion about that. He's up next
- 41:50Speaker 2: from twelve until three with Anderson Hurst, Greg Bell, Travis Moger.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Thank you for listening. Check in with you with Chris
- 41:56Speaker 2: on Monday. Have a great week and happy Mother's Dayan's
