- 1:06Trevor Project. 2nd announcement we did to be Anatomy this past
- 1:10weekend. That's right.
- 1:11And we covered Psycho Beach Party, which was.
- 1:15It was a party, man. It was a party it.
- 1:16Was a wild ass movie and if you want to listen to us talk about
- 1:21a weird 60s parody slasher type thing about beach killings and
- 1:25go do that, it's there for you. We have that now.
- 1:27We didn't have that before, but we do.
- 1:29Yeah, we do now. Yeah, we do.
- 1:31Now do we have a portal? Yes, we have that.
- 1:37We have, Yep, we have poll results.
- 1:40So last week we talked about Return to Sleepaway Camp and we
- 1:45wanted to ask everybody who had the better come back.
- 1:48So this is a battle between movies here, Return to Sleepaway
- 1:50Camp and the original Sleepaway Camp.
- 1:53So in Return to Sleepaway Camp's corner, we have Alan, whose
- 1:57catch phrase is your ass stinks. And then on the other corner, we
- 2:01have Ricky with Eat Shit and Live.
- 2:04So I mean, thanks everybody for doing this.
- 2:06There's a lot of people that voted into this and there was a
- 2:08fucking landslide. I knew it was going to be like
- 2:11this. But hey, at least we have
- 2:13somebody that voted for Alan here.
- 2:14We have 5% for Alan. Your ass stinks versus Ricky's
- 2:1895% and eat shit and Live. All right?
- 2:22I mean, I think that's that's the right answer, man.
- 2:24Ricky's insult has come back there as a legendary.
- 2:27It's one of the best in horror. It absolutely is.
- 2:30Yeah. So thanks everybody for
- 2:31participating with that. Really appreciate it.
- 2:34All right, so that's it for that.
- 2:36I think that's got announcements all the way too.
- 2:38So I think we can go on into raw all.
- 2:40Right Raw premiered May 14th, 2016 at the Cannes Film
- 2:45Festival, with a wide release in March of 2017.
- 2:48We watched it on YouTube because there are limited watch options
- 2:54as of today. You can stream it on Prime
- 2:56Premium if you have that. Otherwise, you can have to rent
- 2:59it from YouTube, Google Play, or Fandango at home.
- 3:02This is one that I've seen on Netflix several times, and it's
- 3:04actually where we watched it initially, but that's not where
- 3:07it is right now. Written and directed by Julia
- 3:10Ducorno, music by Jim Williams, special effects makeup by
- 3:13Olivier Alfonso and Amelie Grosier.
- 3:17Starring Gerons Marillier as Justine, Ella Rumph as Alexia,
- 3:23and Robin Nat Ufala as Adrianne Travis.
- 3:28Yes, time for our favorite game budget or bugtad.
- 3:35Bugtad. Yes.
- 3:37So it has a reported budget of €3.5 million, which at the time
- 3:42was equivalent to about 3.8 million U.S. dollars.
- 3:46Not bad. I got the US opening box office
- 3:49amount because that's what was that's.
- 3:51Surprised it's open in the US honestly.
- 3:54It had a 24.8000 opening weekend and a worldwide gross of three
- 4:00million. Wow.
- 4:02IMDb score of 6.9 out of 10. Nice.
- 4:05Yeah. Wow, that's actually good.
- 4:08Yeah, I'm. I'm glad that it has a high
- 4:09rating. I remember when this movie first
- 4:12came out or whenever first to streaming, people were speaking
- 4:14really highly of it. Yeah, and we watched it when it
- 4:18came to streaming to you. Yeah, Back it was.
- 4:20I think we watched it on one of our Scream screens.
- 4:23It was one of those movies where we picked it because there's a
- 4:25new movie. Yeah.
- 4:27OK, I pull all the three movies from 2016 for comparison, and my
- 4:32theme for this week is hungry, hungry, hungry.
- 4:36It's it involves a little people munching in some way, shape or
- 4:40form. Oh.
- 4:40Cool. OK, good.
- 4:42There's never a shortage of those movies out there.
- 4:45So the first one is actually one we have covered on the show and
- 4:48it's the Neon Demon. Oh yeah, yeah, definitely hung.
- 4:52We definitely hung. We definitely a very, very long
- 4:56lasting scene in my brain at the end.
- 4:58Yeah, yeah. That released June 24th, 2016.
- 5:02Budget of $7,000,000, worldwide gross of 3 million and an IMDb
- 5:06score of 6.1 out of 10. Dang, that's got a good score
- 5:09too. Yeah, second movie, The one that
- 5:13you watched to break Talia's heart, trained to be sand.
- 5:16Oh yeah, that's a heavy fucking movie.
- 5:19That released actually the day before at the same Cannes Film
- 5:23Festival as Raw. So they were traumatized.
- 5:25Yeah, so it was just a rough weekend for everybody in Cannes
- 5:28that. Came was heavy.
- 5:30That had a budget of 10 billion, No 10 billion.
- 5:36I I now realize it's gonna be a different currency.
- 5:38Yeah. And they might have been.
- 5:41We went to $10 billion. Were they real zombie?
- 5:45No 10 billion won, OK, which is the equivalent of about
- 5:48$7,000,000. That's still a pretty, that's a
- 5:51high budget still, yeah. Well it's OK cuz it has a
- 5:54worldwide gross 92 million. Damn I didn't realize it did
- 5:57that good. Yeah, I think where they were
- 5:59trying, where they did the remake, I think it sparked a lot
- 6:01of interest in the original. Did they do a remake?
- 6:04They've been talking about it, people have been saying.
- 6:07Weird. OK.
- 6:09IMDb score a 7.6 out of 10. Yeah, that.
- 6:13I mean, that's, that's fair right there.
- 6:15That is a great fucking movie. And the third movie also has
- 6:19been covered on the show Terrifier.
- 6:22Oh yeah, Terrifiers got some hungry and our our like to eat
- 6:26people. Yeah, so that premiered at the
- 6:28Telluride Horror Show Film Festival on October 15th, 2016.
- 6:32Budget of $35,000, worldwide gross of $421,000.
- 6:38We're only like 100,000 of that. Wait, which terrifier was this?
- 6:42The first one. OK, Yeah. 5.5 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 6:47I feel like that one's probably gone up since we're maybe down.
- 6:50I don't know. That's that's a.
- 6:51Divisive movie. I yeah, I would need to pull up
- 6:55our episode from when we covered that a while back with actually
- 6:58with David Howard Thornton. Yeah, yeah, that was a long time
- 7:01ago. Yeah, OK, I got 3 tag lines.
- 7:04OK, what are you hungry for? OK.
- 7:10Sisters bound by love, twin by flesh.
- 7:13Oh, that's good. Yeah, that was good.
- 7:15She craves meat. OK.
- 7:18It's it's like each word is capitalized.
- 7:21So I feel like it needs to be said that.
- 7:22Way craves meat. So I got a few fun facts.
- 7:27This was shot actually at a school in Liege, Belgium in
- 7:32because in part because there is like a more American style
- 7:36campus there that I guess is not as common in France, at least
- 7:39according to the director. I'm sorry, were they going for
- 7:44an American type campus? I guess so.
- 7:47Interesting. Yeah, and they speak French in
- 7:50Liege, which I learned as I was trying to learn how to pronounce
- 7:54the name of the city. So they do actually speak French
- 7:56there. So interesting.
- 7:58That was two months of pre production and two months of
- 8:01actual shooting and it's the only time there was a body or I
- 8:05don't know if this is the only time, but this was noted just in
- 8:08some of the production facts that a body double was actually
- 8:11used for the Brazilian wax scene for girls.
- 8:15Mariel, Mariel Girls. Justine.
- 8:19Yeah, Justine. OK.
- 8:21And I don't know if that has something to do with the age of
- 8:24the actress herself. How?
- 8:26Old was. She, so the director actually
- 8:29has known her since she was like 12 and she's only, she was only
- 8:3321 at the time of the interview. So she just.
- 8:37Julia Du Corneau did an interview with BFI, an online
- 8:43website. And I just, I found a couple of
- 8:46interesting things there. So her parents are actually
- 8:49doctors, but she chose to do like veterinary medicine after
- 8:52she was like scouting the university and seeing what she
- 8:55called interesting scenes that she thought would be good for
- 8:59the film. Didn't really elaborate on that.
- 9:01But a big part of it was like animal symbolism, like being
- 9:05crucial. Obviously it's not just like a
- 9:07big part of Justine's character. But she said that, you know,
- 9:10like, especially that scene where they're they're getting
- 9:12the horse prepared for surgery and putting it to sleep.
- 9:14She put a lot of emphasis on its eyes and just seeing like this
- 9:17great big beast going down, being asleep, being so
- 9:21vulnerable. And she said it's the type of
- 9:23thing that her parents, being doctors, wouldn't really, like,
- 9:27think of. They're just like, yeah,
- 9:28obviously you have to do that for surgery, but she wanted to
- 9:31have that powerful moment of it. There was a moving scene.
- 9:34I'll admit that I don't like the way it made me.
- 9:37Feel, yeah, it made me feel some type of way and it wasn't a
- 9:40happy type of way. I do also have a quote from her.
- 9:47So she there were 300 extras in that scene with like the rave,
- 9:51like rookie party or whatever. Fuck man.
- 9:54Yes. And she's so the interviewer
- 9:57said you don't see club scenes on film portrayed very
- 9:59authentically, but this had the sweat, noise and movement.
- 10:02And she said this was very important to me.
- 10:04I love directing to extras. The more extras, the happier I
- 10:07am, especially for scenes like that.
- 10:09We were 300 on set and I directed every extra almost
- 10:12individually because everyone has something to do.
- 10:14It's a sequence shot, so everyone has to be very precise.
- 10:16It's choreographed. But before that, just to give
- 10:20them an idea of what kind of party I wanted, I said two
- 10:22things. The first was, listen, I'm the
- 10:24kind of asshole who, when I watch a party scene in a movie,
- 10:27I'm going to check, I'm going to check the full background to see
- 10:29if any of the extras is pretending to dance on fake
- 10:31music. If I spot that, I'm out.
- 10:33My second thing was, I'm going to show you how to dance.
- 10:37I don't want to see people dancing like they have a stick
- 10:39stuck up somewhere. I'm not going to say I want to
- 10:41see real dancing like everyone is here to fuck basically.
- 10:44So I danced in front of my 300 extras.
- 10:46I just like I hate seeing fake dancing movies.
- 10:49So First off I don't want to see that.
- 10:50Second off, I'm showing you how to dance.
- 10:53I'm going to show you what kind of dancing I want to see.
- 10:56That's funny, yeah. So those are just a couple like
- 10:59little fun facts that I found just between like general
- 11:02Internet sleuthing and some interviews.
- 11:05And I thought those were all pretty interesting.
- 11:07Yeah, pretty interesting. So I guess with that, we're
- 11:11ready. Oh.
- 11:12You got to do your thing. Yes, I got to do my thing.
- 11:13So there were a couple of things that I wanted to pull.
- 11:15Obviously, this is Pride Month, so we're not just doing
- 11:18donations to the Trevor Project, but we also want to explore
- 11:21movies that either have cast and crew that are members of the
- 11:24LGBTQ community or that like the movie has some sort of theme,
- 11:30plot point, something that's important to it.
- 11:32And I've got a couple of things that I wanted to read about it.
- 11:351 is a review from Star Observer Australia, which is a it's a
- 11:42record of Australian LGBTQ plus history and reviewer named
- 11:46Lawrence Barber did a review of raw and had something had a read
- 11:52on the relationship between Adrian and Justine that I
- 11:55thought was really interesting. Is it bad that I never caught
- 11:57that roommate's name? Always wrote him as roommate
- 12:00because I never caught Adrian once.
- 12:02He says it one time when they're like doing the crawling
- 12:05underground to the rave. Yeah, the opening, yeah.
- 12:09Yeah, OK. So, Lawrence says, horror is a
- 12:13genre that tends to give little to queer audiences, perhaps in
- 12:16part because film makers are often unwilling to juxtapose the
- 12:19frequently transgressive nature of horror stories with the more
- 12:21conventional images of queerness that tend to be present in
- 12:24contemporary film making. The danger of queer desire tends
- 12:27to be exploited in thrillers rather than horror, in films
- 12:29like Xavier Dolan's Tom at the Farm or The Talented Mr. Ripley.
- 12:33While Ross's main character is an LGBTI, it uses a character
- 12:36uses a gay character in a specific and crucial way.
- 12:39Justine's roommate, Adrian, is gay and gorgeous.
- 12:42She complaints to him that she asked for a female roommate, and
- 12:44he brushes it off, saying I'm not going to say the word if
- 12:49slur is much of A muchness. But the awakening of Justine's
- 12:54desire for flesh, a clear metaphor for her sexual
- 12:56awakening, crosses that boundary and fusses and fuses with her
- 13:00desire for pleasure. In this way, Raw tackles the
- 13:02sometimes tricky subject of relationships between gay men
- 13:05and ostensibly straight women in a fascinating, predatory way.
- 13:09Justine devours A shirtless Adrian with her eyes as he plays
- 13:12soccer, and then curiosity gets the best of both of them.
- 13:15It fractures the relationship. Justine takes it as a sign of
- 13:18interest, but Adrian becomes confused and frustrated.
- 13:20Why did he have to withstand bullying only to have him
- 13:23question his sexual identity now?
- 13:25Each character ultimately feels in some way exploited by the
- 13:28other, so I thought that was a really interesting because
- 13:30Adrian's character is a huge part of this movie even if he is
- 13:34not the main character, and it also kind of led me into wanting
- 13:38to discuss the barrier barrier gaze trope.
- 13:41Bury your gaze tropes. Oh, barrier gaze.
- 13:45Yes. I thought you were saying
- 13:46barrier gaze. Like, you know, barrier for.
- 13:49Gaze or something? So that's just a little snippet
- 13:53about it and it's got some statistics and it's gonna have
- 13:55like some spoilers for The Last of Us.
- 13:59Just I'm not like super interested in following it but.
- 14:03It's an old game, This. This story's been out there for
- 14:05a long time. So basically the the barrier gay
- 14:09trope is that gay or lesbian characters tend to meet unhappy
- 14:12endings and it can range from like heartbreak, insanity, loss,
- 14:15depression, imprisonment. It could also be like having
- 14:20like, homophobic attacks, committing suicide, you know,
- 14:24suffering an illness, something like that because it happens a
- 14:27lot more to female characters than male characters.
- 14:30It's also often times called the dead lesbian syndrome.
- 14:33And this is especially common in television shows.
- 14:37And a group called Autostraddle examined 1779 scripted US
- 14:43television series from 1976 to 2016.
- 14:48Eleven percent of them featured lesbian or bisexual female
- 14:51characters. Among those, 35% saw lesbian or
- 14:55bisexual characters dead, while only 16% provided a happy ending
- 15:00for them. Similarly, among all lesbian or
- 15:03bisexual characters in ended series, 31% ended up dead and
- 15:07only 10% received a happy ending.
- 15:11And then there's a little bit down here.
- 15:13Also go through similar things and other fictions such as video
- 15:16games. According to Kotaku, LGBT LGBT
- 15:21characters are largely defined by a pain that their straight
- 15:24counterparts do not share, facing challenges that serve.
- 15:27It's an in world analogy for anti LGBTQ bigotry.
- 15:32While games like The Last of Us or Life is Strange forward LGBTQ
- 15:36representation in the gaming sphere by featuring queer lead
- 15:39characters, they still evolve victim to tragedy or death.
- 15:42The Last of Us DLC features the lead character Ellie engaging in
- 15:45a brief moment of queerness a lot long before her love
- 15:48interest dies, and a game sequel features Ellie as an openly
- 15:51queer woman yet continues to emotionally torture her.
- 15:55That I understand that, but everybody dies in that fucking.
- 15:58I mean, it's a horror game. Like the whole thing is like
- 16:01humanity is going away. I don't mean to take away from
- 16:04that, but I think that that's a strange comparison to make right
- 16:07there with The Last of Us. I just, I thought it was really
- 16:10interesting for this movie especially.
- 16:12And I know this movie is a lot about sexual awakening.
- 16:15And I know that there's like a really complex relationship
- 16:18between Justine and Adrian and Justine's own sexual awakening
- 16:22and Adrian having this moment with her, even though he's very
- 16:25outwardly and openly gay, and it just creating a lot of
- 16:30confusion, tension in their relationship, things like that.
- 16:34But I do find it very interesting that out of all of
- 16:36the characters that die in this movie, his was given the most
- 16:39attention, the most weight, the biggest moment of it.
- 16:44So I thought that this was like a moment to kind of discuss this
- 16:48trope, and once you're aware of it, like it's kind of one of
- 16:51those things that you start to really notice it when you're
- 16:54like, watching TV or movies or reading books or playing games
- 16:57or whatever. Yeah, I could see that.
- 17:00OK, interesting. With that said, we are ready to
- 17:03go on to our good, bad, ugly and absurd.
- 17:06OK. All right, I'll kick it off.
- 17:09Yes, All right, so. Kick it off.
- 17:11Good stuff. I like this movie, man.
- 17:15This movie is man, It has an impact on you.
- 17:19It is an interesting take on a cannibalism movie and we've seen
- 17:24a lot of those in our time on this show and just as people
- 17:28that love horror movies and I like that it like shows a
- 17:31different side of it. It's not like a slasher like
- 17:34like somebody's out there just like killing people and eating
- 17:37them type thing. Like there's like deepness to
- 17:39it. Like what you're saying there.
- 17:40It's kind of like a symbolic for her sexual awakening type thing
- 17:44that's like, it's weirdly deep for a cannibalism.
- 17:48Yeah. I just like she's also super
- 17:49more like opportunistic with it, which I know like killing and
- 17:53swashers. It's also like an opportunistic
- 17:55thing. But I don't know, like the way
- 17:56that she, like she explores it in this movie, like seeing her
- 18:01transition from vegetarian to eating fucking raw chicken in a
- 18:06fridge. It's so upsetting so.
- 18:09I read online and I don't know if this was true or not because
- 18:11it was just like a little snippet I saw randomly while I
- 18:13was looking. But she wasn't actually eating
- 18:15Grouch again, obviously, Yeah. I hope.
- 18:17But it was like a sugar based product and she said.
- 18:21The actress said that while it didn't put her off from eating
- 18:23chicken for a while, it did make it really hard for her to eat
- 18:26sweets for a while after that. That sounds like awesome
- 18:29honestly if you want to get off sweets just like baked.
- 18:31Chicken pretend. Yeah, pretend you're eating raw
- 18:33chicken breast. Yeah, but that's the thing in
- 18:35this movie, like, it has a lot of upsetting parts.
- 18:38The veterinary school is a good setting for this too, because
- 18:41it's super upsetting. Like, you know, doctors, like I
- 18:45don't know, I, I just, I don't have the sympathy for humans
- 18:48that I do for animals And like seeing them like that horse
- 18:53scene that I didn't, I didn't enjoy that one bit.
- 18:57Listen, some doctors don't even have sympathy for humans.
- 19:00Well, you become they're sensitized to it.
- 19:02They're in it because I have a gag complex.
- 19:04That's true. I I just like you and even vets,
- 19:06I'm sure you become distance attached to it too.
- 19:08But any time that we take Talia to the vet, like we have to go
- 19:12to an emergency vet for some of her appointments just because
- 19:14they're the only one that provides the.
- 19:15Treatment. Yeah, it's a hospital.
- 19:17Yeah, and you see some really upsetting situations sometimes.
- 19:21And, you know, you see the hospitals too.
- 19:23But I, I don't know, I have more sympathy for the dogs and the
- 19:25cats and the horses. Vets have like one of the
- 19:29highest suicide rates of all professional.
- 19:31Yeah. I think a big part of it with
- 19:33the animals is that they don't have the autonomy to be able to
- 19:37seek out that help themselves or exactly, exactly what's going on
- 19:39with them. I know there's a reason and I
- 19:41don't feel like a psycho for saying this, but you know, like
- 19:44it's just like a weird thing, like, you know, it's true, but I
- 19:48don't know, it just it added to the movie.
- 19:50It added weight. I don't know, man.
- 19:52This movie, like it, it does a lot of things really, really
- 19:55well. It unsettles you.
- 19:57It tells a good story. Yeah, I, this movie, it, it had
- 20:02a lot of moments, but like, it was really easy for me
- 20:05personally, like as an individual viewer to like sit
- 20:08there and kind of really relate to and be able to put myself in
- 20:11that character shoes. Obviously I've been a vegetarian
- 20:14since I was 15 so it's over half my life now and I'm full of
- 20:18vegan now. Also, like sitting there
- 20:21thinking about like, Oh well, what if I was put in this
- 20:23situation? And also she is seen as a
- 20:27prodigy. I'm not that level.
- 20:29But I was always somebody that really excelled in schools.
- 20:31And it got to a point that like, my reputation tended to kind of
- 20:34precede me. And I put a lot of pressure on
- 20:36myself with that. And like, it it did.
- 20:40It did kind of have an effect on me socially too, I think,
- 20:44because I started putting so much of like pressure on that,
- 20:47so much of myself worth on that. Man, yeah, I did not know that
- 20:51wife. It's not.
- 20:54Me, but it was just really interesting watching this movie
- 20:59and I think the sister relationship I think is really
- 21:02beautiful and really real the way they talk to each other
- 21:05because they have these very tender loving moments that
- 21:07immediately get cutting with each other at the same time.
- 21:12And I think that's really nice. And each of them thinking that
- 21:16they're the black sheep or the weirdo of the family.
- 21:18I think that also tends to kind of ring true.
- 21:21I just, I don't know, I just, there's a lot about this movie
- 21:24that I really, I wouldn't call it a feel bad movie necessarily,
- 21:27but it's one that like you are a little bit down after watching
- 21:31it. Yeah, no, I mean, it doesn't
- 21:32depress me really. It doesn't like it's just it's
- 21:35an uncomfortable movie. Yeah, really all it is.
- 21:38Yeah. I wouldn't call it AI could feel
- 21:39bad movie though at all. And Guerrero Mariellier, I just
- 21:43wanted to say it one more time to make sure I can say it
- 21:45correctly. She does such a good job with,
- 21:47like, her physicality and her facial expressions.
- 21:51I think that scene of her, like, when she's drunk at the party
- 21:56and she's ready to, like, ready to mingle.
- 21:58Yeah, ready to mingle. And she's just sitting there
- 22:01like a little grumbling on the table like that, that lives in
- 22:05my head at random times. Like, it's just like, hey, by
- 22:08the way, Justine's here and she's ready to fuck some shit
- 22:11up. She becomes a creep.
- 22:13Yeah. Real, real fast.
- 22:16OK, I'm so bat stuff. Wait, was that your good?
- 22:21Yeah. So First off, the dog dies and
- 22:23don't ever do that. Don't do that, don't do that.
- 22:27Don't kill the dog. Don't give me a dog and kill it.
- 22:30Follow up to Scriptwriting Classic Save the cat.
- 22:34Save the cat too. Also save the dog.
- 22:37Yeah, don't do that. It it just, it bums me out.
- 22:41I hate that it happens. I get it.
- 22:42It is an emotional moment, it has impact.
- 22:45It kind of shows you these characters and it's important
- 22:47for the movie. But I just hate it.
- 22:49And it gives that contrast between Justine and Alexia.
- 22:53It I think it also shows her development, her descent into
- 22:57this, whatever you want to call it, because she's becoming
- 23:01desensitized to it too. Yeah.
- 23:04And then also like, there's really not a whole lot bad I
- 23:08could say about this movie, but like the way that people act too
- 23:12chill about how things happened in this movie, like the the
- 23:15students, everybody just kind of witnesses these crazy fucking
- 23:19things, but nobody reacts to it. Nothing happens.
- 23:22There's no repercussions. What's the fucking culture at
- 23:25this school? I don't understand.
- 23:27I I would not survive at this school.
- 23:30I think this school probably has many deaths like this shit like
- 23:34they're all desensitized system. Like we have a fucking like bite
- 23:38off in the middle of a courtyard.
- 23:40Nobody does shit. People are just like standing
- 23:42there watching and then they go on about their day.
- 23:44The dog death, they just shrugged that shit off.
- 23:47Just seen chomping the limp off of a dude.
- 23:51People are super chill about her roommate, super chill about it.
- 23:54She's like, oh, you're in the S&M, What the fuck is that?
- 23:58Like that I think is weird. That's not real.
- 24:02That's I just think that maybe, I don't know if that's the story
- 24:08you need to tell, if that's how they need to be for the story to
- 24:10progress, whatever, but it's not real.
- 24:13It just stands out to me how weirdly chill everybody is also.
- 24:17What is the timeline? It's like the whole semester I
- 24:21think. Is it though because it feel
- 24:24like because they refer to it as the rookie week?
- 24:29Well, I think it starts with the rookie week and then after the
- 24:31rookie week they have that picture taken.
- 24:34I think that's the conclusion of the week.
- 24:36No, because they're even like they're still forced to.
- 24:39Like they still have to deal with hazing rituals and stuff
- 24:42afterwards. I thought that that was like an
- 24:43entire first year thing. May I don't know.
- 24:46They're they're not super clear about.
- 24:47It honestly. But I mean, that's pretty much
- 24:50my bad stuff right there, OK? I don't know, I'm OK with the
- 24:53suspension of disbelief in movies.
- 24:55I've said that multiple times. I'm I'm in the world of this
- 24:58movie and I'm OK with it. I think more for me, the ending
- 25:02it, it has like an impact with its suddenness and like how it's
- 25:06just jobs on you. I think it's kind of stupid.
- 25:08On it. But it is, yeah.
- 25:09It's really like, that's almost too much suspension of disbelief
- 25:13for me, like. That's like, Oh yeah, here's
- 25:14some your mom. Yeah, update that shit right
- 25:17there when you think about that. I had a nipple there one time.
- 25:19Don't anymore. It's gone.
- 25:21Actual dialogue like he switches from French and says all.
- 25:24That sorry, I'm translating. Here, Yeah, yeah.
- 25:30So I think that ending like it has like the final shot impact
- 25:33and it leaves you a lot to think about, but also like when you
- 25:36think about it too much, you're like.
- 25:42It's weird, if it was an issue within the family and they're
- 25:46aware of it being an issue within the family, why would
- 25:49they not address it? I think they're trying to
- 25:52address it by keeping them all vegetarians.
- 25:54That's not really addressing it. That's trying to replace a
- 25:57behavior with something else. But they're not really using it
- 25:59as like a learning moment. Like don't eat people.
- 26:03Like, you know, we need to teach you guys this, I guess, but
- 26:05don't do that. I don't know, man, that's
- 26:09fucking weird. OK, OK, so ugly stuff.
- 26:13Justine kind of becomes a sex fest in this movie as it goes
- 26:16on. We get her like, First off, like
- 26:18when they're supposed to be like making out in that closet, she
- 26:22bites that dude's clip off and that's that's super fucked up.
- 26:27Everybody's really chill about it.
- 26:28But then we get to that part where she gets super fucked up
- 26:31at a party super drunk and she's starting to just like kind of
- 26:35chomp on people's necks and kind of like try to be like sexually
- 26:38seductive and shit like that to people that are not interested.
- 26:41And she's just it's, it's a problem.
- 26:45I think so in I'm saying this knowing that you would call this
- 26:49out if this was a man, if this was a male character.
- 26:51OK, I don't want you to take this as me rebuffing your point.
- 26:56But this was something that Dukorno like, addressed in that
- 27:01same interview saying like, you know, part of this is that she
- 27:06doesn't want female sexual awakening to be seen as
- 27:09something more shameful than male sectioning sexual
- 27:11awakening. And how, like, men are often,
- 27:14like, lauded for going out there when their sexual prowess and
- 27:17all that. Women are taught to feel guilty
- 27:20after the fact. I'm saying that fully
- 27:22acknowledging that we would call him a sex pest if it was Justin
- 27:26and not Justine, You know what I mean?
- 27:27Yeah, and that's the case here too.
- 27:30Like, there's nothing wrong with like, you know, sexual
- 27:32awakening, Like, you know, if you're, you know, like, go have
- 27:36fun, man. Just don't do it to people that
- 27:39aren't interested. Yeah.
- 27:40It's really all. It's that easy.
- 27:42Yeah. Yeah, I think definitely,
- 27:44especially the way like it feels especially like predatory
- 27:47towards Adrian because like. Yeah, that too, because she saw
- 27:50that he was like watching porn or something like that.
- 27:52Dude, it's already horny. Like he's, you know?
- 27:54Yeah, it like, like he's made it very well known he's gay.
- 27:59Like, he's like, I'm gay. You saw me getting a blowjob
- 28:02from a man. I've told you I'm gay.
- 28:06Like, we should be able to have a comfortable, platonic,
- 28:10friendly relationship. I've been your friend here.
- 28:12I've stood up for you. And it's just it, it feels like
- 28:16she is taking advantage of that closeness, like that emotional
- 28:19closeness, but also that physical proximity.
- 28:22Yeah. I mean, she's.
- 28:23Doing shit like walking out in a towel and like laying on the bed
- 28:25with him, you know what I mean? I feel like that.
- 28:29Come on, man. Let's not be a naive.
- 28:30That's definitely trying to like entice.
- 28:34I don't know so much about that. I just think it's it's more on
- 28:37the like emotional spectrum of things like it it just yeah,
- 28:42also, I'm going to put the ugly, the dog into the ugly here
- 28:47because they they know they're lying.
- 28:48They know that the dog's going to get put down because of this.
- 28:51The. Thing that kills me the most
- 28:52from that is Alex's text to her she's like mom is sad they put
- 28:57down the dog she's so fucking sad lol.
- 29:00Yeah. Caps Fuck off, Alex.
- 29:04What is your absolute? Oh yeah, they have that weird,
- 29:09like, super emotionally detached debate about monkey rape during
- 29:13lunch, which was really fucking weird.
- 29:16And they're like talking about a monkey's ability to even be
- 29:21raped. Yeah, it's.
- 29:23Such a weird fucking conversation to have and I don't
- 29:26understand was that is there a meaning for this in this movie?
- 29:30Does it apply to like a thing here?
- 29:32Yes. So part of this is, is like
- 29:34meant to show like Justine's like, like her social mores and
- 29:40like paying attention to how people are reacting to things
- 29:43that she's saying, but also kind of contrasting her.
- 29:45Like I'm here because we care about the the animals.
- 29:48That's why we're here, right? Like we should care about this.
- 29:50And it's meant to show like, where she's at morally at the
- 29:53beginning of this movie, OK. Yeah, yeah, it was.
- 29:56It was a really weird situation. Also pee time where we get the
- 30:01sisters, you know, doing their standing peeing and she pees all
- 30:04over herself accidentally. Listen, that that was bound to
- 30:07go back like kudos to Alexia's Kegels, because like the force
- 30:12that she's using. She brings.
- 30:13Like they're even at the end, you're going to run out of
- 30:17enough to forcefully push out that way.
- 30:19That's true. Yeah.
- 30:20You're always gonna end up with a trickle in your pants.
- 30:22These people strike me as the type of people that really don't
- 30:25mind having a little bit of pee down there.
- 30:26They're pee pants. I really do think that they are
- 30:28MCP pants. And the final thing is the bite
- 30:32fight that we have at the end, It's just, it's so fucking
- 30:37weird, man. Just so like in there on like a
- 30:39fucking bite fight where they're just biting chunks off each
- 30:41other. They.
- 30:42Each have each other's hands in their mouths and it makes me
- 30:45think of what we like, Scout. And so we are fighting and we
- 30:48try to separate them and they each have each other's like the
- 30:51haunches of their necks. Dude, yeah.
- 30:54We're like let let go 2 days ago. 2 days ago I I was here
- 30:58working in scout pounced on Zoe and slapped the shit off her and
- 31:03bites may have happened. What happened in this instant?
- 31:05And there was a big chunk of hair that came out and I just
- 31:08imagined Scout looked over as always, like you taste like
- 31:11shit. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:14I want to say the the absurd is like just how chill the whole
- 31:19family is about it. And like the way the way Alex
- 31:24and Justine talk about this after the fact, like it's so
- 31:28like Alex is so shocked. Yeah, she's.
- 31:31Really. No shock.
- 31:32She's down the clown as soon as she's like, oh, you eat people
- 31:34too? Cool, let's just be feel about
- 31:36it. Let's play video games and chat
- 31:38about how we taste. She is a psychopath for sure.
- 31:40I don't think she actually has. Like they're both psychopaths,
- 31:43yeah. I think this is it's like a
- 31:45latent thing for Justine and it's coming out now that she's
- 31:49being away from her family, being herself.
- 31:52She's finding herself and she's finding out that she's a
- 31:54psychopath who likes to eat people and raw chicken.
- 31:57Where are you rating this? This movie's really fucking
- 32:00good. I'm going to give it Nate.
- 32:02Nate Yeah. What?
- 32:048. Yeah, what about you?
- 32:09Oh. Man, I, I love this movie.
- 32:13It's we've only watched it twice, but like it's just it has
- 32:17had a lasting impact on me. I think I want to give this A9.
- 32:22OK, cool. So 8 1/2 easy score right there
- 32:258. .5 Nice. Nice.
- 32:28All right, let's talk about it. So we see somebody walking along
- 32:33like an isolated Rd. it. Looks like the road from Stay
- 32:39Alive where Jimmy Simpson dies. I can.
- 32:43Kind of see it that's trees though.
- 32:45And then we see a car driving and then we see the person's
- 32:48gone. But wait, they're just waiting
- 32:50for the car to pass somewhere they can jump out.
- 32:52Boom, causes a crash. And then we see the Walker walks
- 32:54over to the car. Yep.
- 32:56Then we cut to a family, they are at a deli of some.
- 33:00Sort like a restaurant. They're eating at a yeah, a
- 33:03restaurant, and they're ordering food.
- 33:05And Justine has ordered her food.
- 33:08She asked for no meat. She's a vegetarian.
- 33:10Here's the thing. Because the server is like no
- 33:13protein and justine's like no, I don't eat meat.
- 33:16Except the question shouldn't be no protein.
- 33:18The question should be, is your entire meal mashed potatoes?
- 33:22I'm not gonna judge her. I'm just saying the lack of
- 33:24protein is not the only issue. She just got a huge plate of
- 33:27mashed potatoes. Yeah, yeah, so.
- 33:31And somehow in said mashed potatoes, meat was found.
- 33:35She takes a bite of it and has to spit it out and mom goes.
- 33:38To complain that type of shit happens all the time.
- 33:40You see mashed potatoes, anything.
- 33:42You've seen me have to like, drop out a bite of food before
- 33:46because like a piece of chicken has gotten into it.
- 33:48Yeah, I just, I just wouldn't expect mashed potatoes, I guess.
- 33:51I I think especially like in a setting like that where it is
- 33:54like cafeteria like deli style. Oh, I didn't notice that.
- 33:57Pooping it out, that makes sense because like, think about like
- 33:59if we go to Qdoba or something, how many times has a piece of
- 34:01chicken made its way into my bowl?
- 34:03That's. True, that's true.
- 34:04So mom goes to complain. We see they are dropping her off
- 34:09for school. It's her first year at the
- 34:11school. Her sister also attends there.
- 34:13They tried calling her to come visit but she blows them off.
- 34:16Yeah, she's supposed to come pick up Justine.
- 34:18Yeah, but Justine just sends it saying it's fine, I'll go.
- 34:22Yeah. In her dorm, she wakes up to
- 34:25some loud noise happening, and her roommate is there.
- 34:28He is. He is a he.
- 34:30And she was like, I asked for a girl and he was like, I'm gay.
- 34:33To them it's the same difference.
- 34:36Then they get hazed. Yeah, it's just like a lot of
- 34:38chaos. I would fucking hate this.
- 34:40People come barging into a room, getting them all all the people
- 34:43out into the hallways and they take their mattresses and throw
- 34:46it out the window and. Then they force them all to go
- 34:49downstairs and they're like in the crawl space under the
- 34:51building and they're actually literally crawling.
- 34:54I think that they're, they're in a parking garage, they're
- 34:57they're having to crawl through the garage.
- 34:59They're like on dirt, though they're not on concrete.
- 35:02I couldn't tell. Yeah.
- 35:03But Adrian is trying to comfort Justine and he's like, it's OK.
- 35:06Like, just think of it as just a game.
- 35:08And you know what? It's more than just a game.
- 35:10It's a fucking rave. They are partying hard in there,
- 35:14there's people with boobies out, there's people with drinks going
- 35:17everywhere. Everybody is having a good time,
- 35:19except for Justine, but she decides that she's going to go
- 35:23find Alex. Yeah, that's her sister.
- 35:25Yeah, she's very drunk, but she's also very happy to see
- 35:28her. And she was like, are you doing
- 35:30OK? I'm worried that mom got to you
- 35:32without me around. So we get the impression that
- 35:35maybe like the way Mom was a little bit overbearing about the
- 35:38lunch, maybe that's just kind of her her baseline.
- 35:41Yeah, so she's like, hey, come with me, I got something to show
- 35:45you. So she sinks her to this like
- 35:47hidden area. And it's a place where they have
- 35:50these. They're like composites of like
- 35:52the. Yeah, the the newbies.
- 35:55Yeah, the the cohorts. Yeah.
- 35:57And it's everybody's introduced like their rush week or whatever
- 36:00you want to call this for this place like.
- 36:03Some of them are missing their heads.
- 36:05And she was like, why do some of these people where they be
- 36:07headed in the photos? And Alex says because they are
- 36:09traitors, they refused the initiation.
- 36:13Yeah, and then she goes and shows them a picture of mom and
- 36:16dad from the school too, because they also were part of this.
- 36:19And she's like, Yep, mom and dad, even them, they did this
- 36:21too. And there just seems like, well,
- 36:24I'm going to go to bed. And Alex is like, no, you can't
- 36:26go to bed before the veterans. Important to note it's I don't
- 36:30know if it's ever like explicitly said, but her age in
- 36:32this movie just seems age is meant to be 16.
- 36:35Like she is an actual yeah, she's an actual literal prodigy.
- 36:37So she's a lot younger than the rest.
- 36:39Of her, they never said that. I thought she was 18.
- 36:41Yeah, it's she's, Yeah. So this is meant to be like,
- 36:44it's not just that this is a new environment for her, it's that
- 36:47she's like socially, developmentally behind everybody
- 36:51else there. Interesting.
- 36:53OK, so she's back in her room. It's all trashed.
- 36:56That's that. Yeah, and she's asleep and she
- 36:58hears Adrian coming in with a guy and he was like my roommate
- 37:01to sleep. So this is where we get the
- 37:04horse scene. She is watching them do a whole
- 37:07procedure with the horse where they take it down to the ground,
- 37:09tranquilize it and then flip it upside down and put it on
- 37:12stretcher. Yeah, they have to like use a
- 37:14basically a forklift to get it on the stretcher and they
- 37:18intubate it. And watching this, like watching
- 37:20this horse fall asleep, it's just, it is like in touch with
- 37:23the heartstrings in case you're like.
- 37:25Seeing a dangled upside down almost went super fucking
- 37:28country. They're dangled.
- 37:31Most country you've ever sounded.
- 37:33Yeah. But like, yeah, it's really
- 37:36upsetting. Yeah.
- 37:38So we get some more hazing. There's like some marching and
- 37:40chants going on. And this is the part where
- 37:43they're getting their picture taken to put on the wall too,
- 37:46but they're all going to be covered with blood and they get
- 37:49it all dumped on them. One of the veterans says that
- 37:52the teachers will make you all great vets, but your elders will
- 37:55make you family. You are rookies until you hear
- 37:58the sound. Boo Boo.
- 38:04Until Matthew McConaughey comes over here and yells.
- 38:08So then they have to all eat a rabbit kidney and take a shot,
- 38:13hopefully of tequila. It looked like pee.
- 38:15It looked. Like pee?
- 38:17It was golden. If they're eating kidneys, pee,
- 38:20pee. Listen, tequila.
- 38:22Tequila has a golden variety. It does, but I don't trust these
- 38:25people. And she's like, oh, I can't.
- 38:27Well, listen, tequila, it's rough.
- 38:29But you know the difference between tequila and peewee.
- 38:31What they did like this? What they did the salt in the
- 38:33lime with the kidney. All right, here you go.
- 38:39Yeah. And Justine's like, oh, I can't
- 38:40do this. My whole family's veggie.
- 38:42And they're like, well, you have to do it as part of the
- 38:44initiation. And she's like, but I can't just
- 38:46ask my sister Alex. And the guy's like.
- 38:49Yeah, it's Alex. Oh fuck.
- 38:50So they call her over and I'm just like, Oh yeah, yeah, you
- 38:53got to do it. And she's just like one in her
- 38:55mouth. And then she goes over to
- 38:56Justine and she's like, she. Eats two of them.
- 38:58She's like dear, I love her so much I'll eat 2 kidneys.
- 39:01So she's like mom and dad did this too.
- 39:02Yeah man, fuck her. She was supposed to bail her
- 39:05sister out and she let her sister down.
- 39:07So, well, she's again, she just went over with her the night
- 39:11before. Like if you, I know, yeah,
- 39:13you're a traitor. I know, but it's still fucked
- 39:15up. She's vegetarian.
- 39:16She doesn't want to eat a kidney.
- 39:18She didn't want to do it. This feels realistic for the
- 39:21older sister being like come on dude don't fucking embarrass me.
- 39:23Yeah. So.
- 39:25They're at lunch. This is where they're having the
- 39:27monkey rape discussion. It's really weird.
- 39:31That's as much as it is. It also kind of shows like that,
- 39:34like when you're young and you have your morals and ideals,
- 39:38it's very easy to have a black and white stance on it.
- 39:40Like it's baby activism. Like this is this is what I
- 39:43believe. And yes, I believe there is no
- 39:45difference between a monkey being raped and a woman being
- 39:47raped. And her peers are like kind of
- 39:50like to differ a little bit with that.
- 39:53And I think that we we see this a lot like.
- 39:56I don't like that argument that there's like, I mean like
- 39:59they're like, what's the monkey going to do, go to therapy?
- 40:01Like then somebody like speaks of like monkeys have like.
- 40:05Yeah, they recognize themselves. And then you're like, and I'm
- 40:09mostly on Justine's side with this, don't get me wrong.
- 40:12I'm just saying like, if we're going to talk about like these,
- 40:14like there has to be more nuance and saying, yes, it's exactly
- 40:16the same. Like let's have, if we're going
- 40:18to have this discussion, let's have the full discussion.
- 40:20You know what I mean? And I think she's just very much
- 40:23drawing hard line, like this is exactly the same situation.
- 40:27OK, For the record, I want to say that I'm not cool with
- 40:32monkey rapes. OK, I'm putting that out there.
- 40:35All right. So Justine, she's getting real
- 40:40itchy. She's in her bed, she's itching
- 40:42all over the place, and then she lifts up her shirt and she's
- 40:44breaking out into a really fucking bad rash.
- 40:47Oh, but before that, we see Adrian and Justine in class
- 40:51together, and Adrian's trying to look at her paper and she's
- 40:53like. Oh yeah, yeah, a little goody,
- 40:56little goody good. The French just got me goody.
- 41:01Goody these shoes, Yeah, but she is the first one done by what
- 41:07appears to be a large margin. And she takes it up to the
- 41:09teacher who's like the genius and he like looks at the paper.
- 41:13He's like, oh, a mistake already.
- 41:16And she was like, oh, let me see.
- 41:16He goes Nope, too late. He like shows it to the bottom
- 41:19of a pile of paper. I.
- 41:20Don't like this guy. He he's mad that she's good at
- 41:22school. Yeah.
- 41:23He's like, you're too good. Don't.
- 41:24You're not going to get it Best me, though.
- 41:26You're not going to be too smart for me.
- 41:28We'll talk about it in a minute, but he, yeah, he really sucks.
- 41:32I hate this guy. And so yeah, she's got a really
- 41:35bad rash heart relate. If anybody wants to see pictures
- 41:38of the blisters under my fingernails from a couple months
- 41:41ago, that was a traumatic for me.
- 41:44And my fingernails only stopped recently being loose as a result
- 41:47of that. But I had like a rash up and
- 41:50down my arms and stomach and stuff as well from the same
- 41:53allergic reaction, not to me, but like the same allergic
- 41:55reaction as the one under my fingernails.
- 41:58So I get Justine's immediate reaction of like, well, I'm
- 42:00going to go see a campus Dr. and get this addressed.
- 42:04And I don't like this doctor because she's just taking
- 42:06tweezers and she's like, were you going to lift up this layer
- 42:09of skin or yeah, peel this. I don't think medically you're
- 42:13supposed to do that. I don't, I don't know.
- 42:15I don't know how the procedure is supposed to go.
- 42:17Maybe she just really likes peeling skin and she's like.
- 42:20There are people like that, maybe.
- 42:22She also eats. I'm starting like saving the
- 42:25skin layers for herself. I'm starting to suspect
- 42:27everybody at the school does that.
- 42:29She's like gold member like saves the skin flakes and I was
- 42:31like. I was gonna say actually I, I
- 42:33cuz I couldn't remember. I was like, oh, I feel like this
- 42:36is like a natural progression. She starts with her own skin and
- 42:38then they like evolves into like more eating people.
- 42:41But no she doesn't. And it's just like we just see
- 42:43the skin peeled. Yeah, and so the the doctor just
- 42:47thinks that it's a reaction from food poisoning.
- 42:49She kind of scoffs. It Justine going along with the
- 42:52hazing. Yeah.
- 42:53She tells like this weird story that doesn't really seem to fit
- 42:56the moment. Yeah.
- 42:58And she's. Yeah, she's talking about a
- 42:59patient she had. She was overweight.
- 43:01And none of the other doctors would do a blood draw on her,
- 43:03saying that it would be too hard to get to her vein.
- 43:05And she had no problem getting to this patient's vein.
- 43:08And she asked why the patient didn't report it.
- 43:11And she was like, because she just didn't want to stand out.
- 43:13She just wanted to blend in and be average.
- 43:15And she asked Justine, do you want to be average?
- 43:17Yeah, it's weird. So Jessie and she's stopped in
- 43:22the hall. She's told that there's a dress
- 43:24code for the party that's going on tonight and she has to buy
- 43:26buy it. I think I have to wear it to
- 43:29class or to class nightclub wear.
- 43:32Yeah. And when Justine is not wearing
- 43:34it, the elder makes her wear a diaper over her.
- 43:37That's right. So after class, she goes to
- 43:40Alex, who gives her clothes, and Justine's like, this isn't me.
- 43:42And she's like, yes, that's good, That's the point.
- 43:45And Justine's like, I just don't know.
- 43:47And Alice is like, all right, you're annoying me.
- 43:48Get out of my room. Get the fuck out of here.
- 43:50Yeah, so she goes and gets her mattress from the mattress pile.
- 43:53I can't believe the amount of people that still haven't
- 43:56collected their mattress. I'm so worried about what if it
- 43:59rains? Mildew.
- 44:01It's Fox. Gross.
- 44:03It's Fox. And this is when she drags her
- 44:06mattress all the way back up to her room to open the door.
- 44:09Finding her roommate getting a blowjob.
- 44:12Yeah. And he just, like, looks at her
- 44:14and he's like, do you mind it? And she does a weird thing.
- 44:16She closes the door, but she just stands at the door and just
- 44:19kind of overhears the moaning. And she just, like, eavesdrops
- 44:22on the whole thing. Yeah.
- 44:23It's kind of strange. So they're down in the cafeteria
- 44:26getting food. She passes on the burger, but
- 44:28then when she thinks somebody's looking, she takes it and puts
- 44:30it in her pocket because she's wearing a white coat.
- 44:35It's immediately obvious, and the person, the cashier won't
- 44:42let her pay for it until she shows it.
- 44:44And Adrian's like, why are you why?
- 44:46Like, are you harder for cash? She goes, no, I just didn't want
- 44:48anybody to know I'm eating a burger.
- 44:49And he's like, why? And she goes, I don't really
- 44:52know. And he goes, well, we're gonna
- 44:53celebrate. So he takes her on a gas station
- 44:56date for some gas station shawarma.
- 44:59Yeah, it's I, I hate that image of the burger in the pocket and
- 45:04having a bury in that shit. It's so greasy.
- 45:07I fucking hate it. That's probably more upsetting
- 45:09to me than the eating the people in this movie seeing the burger
- 45:11in the pocket. Don't like?
- 45:13It So they are driving by, they're going to go get some
- 45:17food and they drive by the wreck that we saw from the opening of
- 45:22the movie and Justine is super curious and peeps and she's
- 45:26rubbernecking. Yeah, she is.
- 45:28So they're at the gas station, they have some food, and they're
- 45:31just sitting out in front of it eating and making rude comments
- 45:34about truckers. And then one of the truckers
- 45:37seems to have overheard the Boston that they doing on him
- 45:41and he goes over there to fuck with them.
- 45:43Yeah, yeah. So they go back to their dorm.
- 45:49That night she wakes him up because she's running around in
- 45:51the fridge and he's like, what are you doing?
- 45:53She goes eating breakfast. He's like a BBQ because she's
- 45:56got like chicken in her hands. Because no, I'm just, I'm
- 45:58looking for milk. For the cereal.
- 46:00Cereal. Yeah.
- 46:01Which I overheard somebody at work yesterday and I really
- 46:04loved this opinion. And they're like, I don't eat
- 46:06milk in my cereal. And the person they were talking
- 46:09to was like, why not? And she was like, I don't need
- 46:10my drinks having things floating in it.
- 46:13You know what? I like that opinion cuz I'm also
- 46:15a dry cereal person. I am too, yeah.
- 46:19But that's not why. But I like that take on it.
- 46:21I agree that's a good take. And then yeah he used and then
- 46:24we just see her just like noshing on a fucking raw piece
- 46:27of chicken. So gross.
- 46:30Man, you just had an allergic reaction to the rabbit kidney
- 46:35and now you're gonna have salmonella.
- 46:36See, that's the thing. That's another thing that I
- 46:38would thought about this movie, which I could maybe move to the
- 46:41bad is like, why does she not break out again?
- 46:43Yeah, like she's eating a lot of raw bad things.
- 46:47Not good for you. Maybe it's.
- 46:48Just like the initial exposure, like like when you get like a
- 46:53vaccine and you have a little bit of a reaction to it and it
- 46:56makes your body like prepared for future exposure.
- 47:00That's a mighty hand waving we doing right there.
- 47:03Just whatever, whatever. So all right, here's an asshole
- 47:06professor. Again, Yeah.
- 47:07So he says that she cheated and she's like, no, I didn't.
- 47:11He goes. Then your friend cheated and she
- 47:13goes no, he didn't. And he goes, listen, I don't
- 47:15like you, you're too smart and you make all the other students
- 47:19upset because they're not as smart as you.
- 47:20I would rather have a dummy come through class and try really
- 47:23hard then have you come in and just be good.
- 47:25You're not. Going to be a good doctor.
- 47:27And she goes, he cheated, and then she goes and throws up a
- 47:30lot of hair. Who did she?
- 47:32Was she ratting out on her roommate?
- 47:34Yeah, that's what I thought. But we don't see there's no.
- 47:36Ramification for. It Yeah, What I thought that
- 47:39that was gonna play into a thing.
- 47:40It just doesn't. I thought, yeah, I thought that
- 47:42was gonna like add some tension to the relationship, but no.
- 47:45No, that I don't understand that.
- 47:47That was weird. But yeah, so she goes and she
- 47:50throws up a lot of hair, and I'm assuming it's her own hair.
- 47:52Like while she was sitting there nervous, she was like chewing on
- 47:54it. Oh that makes sense.
- 47:55I was wondering why she was coughing up a hairball here.
- 47:57And then she gets out of the stall and somebody else is in
- 48:01there, and it's like, it'll come up easier with two fingers.
- 48:04I was like, damn. Yeah, because we've got bulimia
- 48:07here. And later Alex is going to make
- 48:08a comment about nobody likes the anorexic look like they're very
- 48:11blast, say, about eating disorders.
- 48:13Yeah, yeah. And Speaking of, she's going
- 48:16over to hang out with Alex. Just kind of just decompressed
- 48:19from all this stuff. This is where we get the piece.
- 48:21Yeah, they get drunk on the roof.
- 48:22I like the drunk the drunken rooftop sister bonding moment
- 48:26before they start peeing their pants.
- 48:28This is. It's a scene that always sends
- 48:30out to me whenever I think of this movie.
- 48:31I always think of like just the two of them peeing on the roof
- 48:34together. I think of what comes next
- 48:36because Justine asks if she can stay over.
- 48:38So she stays in Alex's room and she's she's snooping around in
- 48:41Alex's cabinet. She finds the same tube
- 48:44appointment that she was given for her allergic reaction so
- 48:49interesting. And then Alex comes up and she
- 48:52starts tweezing her eyebrows and she looks at her underarms,
- 48:55which are hairy. And she's like, you know, at
- 48:58your age, I'd already given myself my first Brazilian wax,
- 49:00which now knowing cuz it's Alex's second year, I think now
- 49:04knowing that there's such a big age difference, it doesn't seem
- 49:08cuz like that line before, if you think there's only a one
- 49:10year difference, it's like, OK, well calm down Alex.
- 49:12But like. Yeah, definitely.
- 49:14Yeah. So she she offers to do it for
- 49:16her and we get that. Also, here's a question.
- 49:22The dog. The dog gets to stay.
- 49:24Did they deliver the dog to Alex?
- 49:26Why was it not with Justine? If it stayed at the house, why
- 49:29is it not with mom? Because it's mom's dog.
- 49:32I have no clue. The dog just, I think it just
- 49:35needed to be here for the story that needed to eat the finger.
- 49:39Yeah. Really.
- 49:40But the dog is just kind of hanging in the dorm room.
- 49:43Yeah, it's cool. It definitely because it was at
- 49:45the party too. Yeah, it was at the party with
- 49:47Alex. It was a party dog.
- 49:48But she brought it. But we.
- 49:52Don't see Quickie walking with her when she's like walking with
- 49:54her suitcase. Schrodinger's Dog.
- 49:59The dog just, like, vanished. It's weird.
- 50:01Yeah, OK. Whatever the The thought
- 50:05experiment. Part 2.
- 50:06Schrodinger's Cat. Part 2.
- 50:08Schrodinger's Dog. Yeah, OK, so she's doing the
- 50:13Brazilian wax and it's not going super chill.
- 50:17It's really hurting Justine. Yes, wax is hurt.
- 50:20Yeah, it seems like it would. And then Alex gets a big glob on
- 50:25her end. This time it's not coming off.
- 50:27So she's like, uh oh. She tries to RIP it off and then
- 50:32she's like, OK, I can't do it. So she goes and gets some
- 50:34scissors. She.
- 50:35But she doesn't just get normal scissors.
- 50:37These are like massive. These are like Grandma's scent
- 50:42one scissors. She's probably using these for
- 50:45her cannibalism. Probably.
- 50:47Honestly. It cuts through bones super
- 50:49easily. And Justine is like no you are
- 50:52shaking, you're not getting anywhere near me.
- 50:54And she Alex is like it's fine. And Justine says no, it's my
- 50:59pussy and kicks her. And because of the way Justine
- 51:02had her hands positioned, it causes the scissors to cut
- 51:05through the middle of her right middle finger.
- 51:08Yep. Finger right off.
- 51:09And she passes out and Justine calls the emergency services and
- 51:16it's gonna be 15 minutes. So she's got to get the finger
- 51:19on ice and no ice, no ice. And then she's just looking at
- 51:23that finger. And then she's just a little,
- 51:26well, she drinks some of the blood first.
- 51:27Yeah. And then she does a little and
- 51:30it's good. So she just eats a lot more and
- 51:33Alex wakes up and sees. Yep.
- 51:36So we're at the hospital. I like this weird little moment
- 51:40with her looking at this old dude.
- 51:41He does the tooth trick. He does like he falls with her
- 51:45with the teeth and they go, I'm popping him out and he's like,
- 51:48all right. He's really proud of himself for
- 51:50making her uncomfortable. I feel like this is like,
- 51:53sometimes in movies you get trailer moments.
- 51:55That's a trailer moment and they're like, throw it in the
- 51:57trailer. It's it's super weird.
- 52:00And then so Alex is wheeled out and she.
- 52:04She went, she's going to get a prosthetic because they don't
- 52:07hide the finger. And then I was like, what about
- 52:09therapy? And the doctor's like, there's
- 52:10no nerve damage. She goes, yeah, but what about
- 52:12therapy? And he goes, there's no nerve
- 52:14damage, there's no therapy. And then Alex is like, Oh my
- 52:17God, let's just go. And she tries to stand up and
- 52:19her mom goes, no, you're disabled.
- 52:22And then Justine is like, leave her alone.
- 52:24And she runs out. I mean, they were also like, so
- 52:26like, what happened to the finger?
- 52:27And then, like, speaks up before Justine can say anything, he's
- 52:30like, oh, the dog ate it. Yeah.
- 52:31So they're like, oh, OK. So their dad comes out and talks
- 52:36to Jesse is like, you need to apologize to your mom.
- 52:39She's like, I don't really want to.
- 52:40And he's like, and then she says what will happen to quick and
- 52:43he's like, well, once a dog has had a taste of human flesh, it
- 52:45has to be put down. That's.
- 52:47So fucked up this dog got fucked.
- 52:49Yeah, so Alex and Justine talk after their parents leave.
- 52:56She's like, come with me. And so we're going to walk over
- 52:59to the roof and then they get down in a ditch and Justine was
- 53:04like, what are we doing? And then as soon as the car
- 53:06passes, Alex jumps out and it causes a crash and she gets up
- 53:11and she goes over and just starts munching on the dude.
- 53:14The dude's still alive too. Yeah.
- 53:16Like it's really like, oh fuck this.
- 53:19And Justine is freaked out. And Alex is like, no, you need
- 53:22to learn. I'm trying to teach you.
- 53:25So Adrian asks for help donning his PPE.
- 53:30And as she's doing it, she just kind of like, Justine just kind
- 53:33of like, stares at the back of his neck.
- 53:35Yeah. And a very like, yeah.
- 53:37Then we get like, a small montage of like, somewhere
- 53:40hazing happening and Justine staring at Adrian some more.
- 53:44And then she has a Nosebleed. Yeah.
- 53:48And then like we also saw they were doing some like dissecting
- 53:53dogs and during this whole like gold montage, like we cut to one
- 53:58of the dogs and like the tarp is pulled off and I'm wondering,
- 54:01did she eat that dog? Yeah, I don't.
- 54:03That's what it's meaning. I think she ate the dog.
- 54:05I don't know if it was that or if it was meant to be like some
- 54:08more like animal symbolism or. I don't know.
- 54:10Yeah. Yeah, it was.
- 54:11Yeah. Either way, weird.
- 54:13So we see her, she's in her room and she's put on Alex's dress
- 54:17again and she's listening to the song called Seduction 101, which
- 54:20is just like a nasty sex song. I call it this sweaty muzak
- 54:25right here cuz she's like she's jiving to it.
- 54:27She's popping back and forth. She, like, is feeling herself
- 54:30making out. With the mirror.
- 54:31That mirror, dude, the way they do this shot, like the camera is
- 54:34behind some glass. So we're getting the mirrors
- 54:38POV. The mirror feels assaulted,
- 54:40yeah. Yeah, and she's like, she's
- 54:43thinking about Adrian, I'm pretty sure.
- 54:45And then she goes into the room which she's next door and he's
- 54:50in there playing video games with Alex and they are becoming
- 54:53chummy together. I think Alex is clocking
- 54:56Justine's interest in Adrian here.
- 54:57Yeah. And Adrian is leaving.
- 54:59He's going to a Med school party.
- 55:01And he said those are crazy. Like they if they have somebody
- 55:05come in, they just throw up and go take care of him.
- 55:07And he tells Alex it's a good thing that they couldn't find
- 55:09your finger because it would have been someone on backwards.
- 55:11Yeah. And so Alex and Justine are now
- 55:16playing the game and they kind of talk a little bit.
- 55:17And she was like, hands off. And she's like, isn't he gay?
- 55:20And then she goes, how did I taste?
- 55:23And it just seems that you taste like great.
- 55:25It's so weird. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:27And Alex is like, teasing Justine, saying that she's like,
- 55:30I know you, you won't be able to stay away.
- 55:32You won't be able to keep this up.
- 55:34And Justine is like, no, I'm not gonna keep doing this.
- 55:36I thought, OK, so then I she has like a nightmare and then at the
- 55:41end of it she ends up wandering down the hall and there's like a
- 55:44party going on in one of the rooms in there.
- 55:46Everybody's covered in paint and as soon as she walks in she is
- 55:49covered head to toe in blue paint and thrown into a bathroom
- 55:51with a guy with yellow covered in yellow paint.
- 55:55I like this. Right?
- 55:55All right, so go in there and see until we all make green
- 55:58paint. And they start making out, like
- 56:02they kind of actually start to get into it.
- 56:03And he seems to sense that she's a little bit nervous and he's
- 56:07like, we'll go slow. And he goes fine.
- 56:08And so she starts getting into it.
- 56:11We hear a scream from outside the bathroom and he runs out and
- 56:14he goes. She's psycho and he hurt his lip
- 56:19is pretty fucked up. She just chomps like his lower
- 56:22lip off. Yeah, and she goes to the shower
- 56:25in her room and she like. A chunk of it in her teeth.
- 56:29Yeah. And then reek.
- 56:32God, man. So Adrian talks to her
- 56:35afterwards and he's like trying to figure her out.
- 56:38He's like, so we're into S&M and she's like, why are you going to
- 56:42kiss me? He goes, no, she goes, then you
- 56:44have nothing to worry about. And she walks away and he's
- 56:46about to do, you know, some single man action.
- 56:50He's watching gay porn, man. He's he's talking on himself,
- 56:53he's, he's feeling it. And she walks back into the room
- 56:57and she's just kind of like, throws herself on him.
- 57:00And they kind of go for it and like the whole time they're
- 57:03fucking he like she was trying to bite him and he's like
- 57:07pushing her off It's. He keeps like pushing her to
- 57:12stop and eventually she like bites herself which causes her
- 57:16to finish and that's that. So in class, sometime after Alex
- 57:24text Adrian to tell Justine to check her phone and it's just
- 57:29that message you referenced earlier.
- 57:31Put dog down. Mom's so sad lol.
- 57:34God fuck you Alex. And what Justine takes away from
- 57:38this is that Alex has your phone number and he, like, just
- 57:43doesn't really say anything. She goes, what, you're not going
- 57:44to talk to me after deflowering me?
- 57:46He's like, this is a mistake, shouldn't have done that.
- 57:50He. Embarrasses her in front of
- 57:52everybody. Yeah, I'm fucking gay.
- 57:53I'm not going to like I've. I've been gay my whole life.
- 57:57I'm not going to be not gay because of you.
- 57:59She's like, I didn't go through 20 years of this, of shit just
- 58:03to be with you. Yeah.
- 58:05So Justine is, she's a little grim.
- 58:08She's a little party gremlin. She's just, like, hunched over
- 58:11on the table, like, yeah. And she goes to who are serving
- 58:14drinks. She's like, I want a shot.
- 58:16And he's like, well, we don't have any shot glasses.
- 58:17How's the silicone? She's like, good.
- 58:19And so he pours a shot worth in there.
- 58:21She goes with more and like, ends up being full always.
- 58:23She's like, I don't want to have to come back.
- 58:26And so she's really, really fucking drunk.
- 58:27And she's like you said, she's being a sex fest at the party.
- 58:30And Alex Pfizer is like, hey, come with me.
- 58:34And they walk into a morgue. The next day she wakes up late
- 58:38for class and she shows up in the night before outfit, which
- 58:41is everybody's doing it at some point in college, but you know,
- 58:45it happens. She's super hungover and
- 58:48everybody in class is just like staring at her.
- 58:50And she does. She clearly doesn't remember a
- 58:53goddamn thing in after class ager and pulls her to the side.
- 58:56And he was like, hey, come with me.
- 58:57And he shows her a video of the morgue.
- 59:01Yeah, it's a big crowd watching. Somebody's saying like, dude,
- 59:03don't record this and it's Alex has taken a body out of one of
- 59:09the the morgue refrigerator trace the.
- 59:11Drawers. The drawer, yeah, and is like
- 59:14dangling the hand down at Justine, who's on all fours on
- 59:17the ground and is like. Chomping at it, yeah.
- 59:20Oh, it's so fucking weird. And then this like makes her
- 59:23livid so she goes running out. Yeah.
- 59:26And she's like, you just let you just let her do that.
- 59:28And he's like just trying. He's like I'm mad at you but
- 59:32also I care about you and I want you to know This is why people
- 59:35are treating you like this. Also, what the fuck?
- 59:37Yeah, like we're not going to talk about that.
- 59:41Yeah, and so she finds Alex, who's on the rooftop, and they
- 59:46fight. And Alex takes a big old butt
- 59:48about out of Justine's cheek and says, well, you taste like shit.
- 59:52And they keep fighting and they keep fighting each other.
- 59:54And eventually some other students, like, come in and try
- 59:57and separate them. But then Justine throws her
- 59:59backpack at her. And they then she goes back to
- 1:00:01her room. And then they bandage each
- 1:00:04other. And Justine, as she leaves
- 1:00:08Alex's room, almost locks her in but doesn't.
- 1:00:13And I wonder if she thinks about this moment after the fact
- 1:00:17because the next morning we hear air horns.
- 1:00:20It's the end of their room. Matthew McConaughey has arrived
- 1:00:23on campus. There's music playing, and the
- 1:00:27rookies are all gathering. I spoiler, when I was looking
- 1:00:30for reviews for this, somebody was like, I just didn't
- 1:00:33understand why all those kids were just, like, assembling at
- 1:00:36the end. And I was like, it's the end of
- 1:00:37the rookie stuff. Yeah, they said it at the
- 1:00:39beginning. When you hear the sound, you're
- 1:00:41no longer rookies. Yeah.
- 1:00:42Justine wakes up and she's in Adrian's bed and she tries to
- 1:00:46wake him up and he's not moving and she pulls down the blanket
- 1:00:50and finds his like, thigh is chewed down to the bone and
- 1:00:55she's trying to shake him awake. And like, blood just kind of
- 1:00:59oozes out of his mouth and it's very clear he's dead.
- 1:01:01And when she looks on his back, he's got like a puncture wind
- 1:01:03through the middle of his back. It's from a ski pole.
- 1:01:06And she's like freaking out. She's like, why don't you wake
- 1:01:09me up? Why don't you fight back?
- 1:01:10Why don't you, Why don't you stop me?
- 1:01:12And then she looks over and sees Just or Alex in their kitchen
- 1:01:16area. Just like comatose from the
- 1:01:18amount of like human flesh she's eaten.
- 1:01:21Yeah, she doesn't look good. She is bloody and daze and
- 1:01:25Justine gets her cleaned up and we cut to sometime later.
- 1:01:29We can tell it's later because Justine has her.
- 1:01:33Her face is healed, but it is scarred.
- 1:01:35Yeah, and also Alex is in prison.
- 1:01:37Like she's meeting her family in prison on the other side of like
- 1:01:40the little. Yeah.
- 1:01:42Talk wall. I don't know what you call that.
- 1:01:44Talk. Well, yeah.
- 1:01:45Talk. Well, yeah, that's what I
- 1:01:46thought, yeah. Yeah, that's the technical term
- 1:01:48for it. And yeah, they kind of like,
- 1:01:51say, their highs and bys and then it cuts back to just
- 1:01:54seeing, I'm assuming this is like summer break or something.
- 1:01:58I'm assuming she dropped out. Or might might have dropped out.
- 1:02:01Or was kicked out. Or kicked.
- 1:02:03Out if that professor has any pool there, he was like, yes, I
- 1:02:05knew it got rid of the cannibal genius.
- 1:02:08I, I think after all, like seeing all this like stuff, he's
- 1:02:10like, I was wrong about you. He was belonging.
- 1:02:14I feel like he would have been down with it after that, but
- 1:02:16whatever. She's home with her parents.
- 1:02:19They're eating dinner and mom is really, really insistent that
- 1:02:22she finishes her veggie. She's got to eat all of them
- 1:02:24before she can leave the table. And mom goes and leaves and then
- 1:02:27the dad's like what he's like. Don't.
- 1:02:29It's not your. Fault.
- 1:02:30Yeah he's like don't take it personally and just seems like
- 1:02:32it's kind of hard not to just listen.
- 1:02:35When Alex was born she came with us everywhere.
- 1:02:38Everybody just always loved her. She had a magnetism about her.
- 1:02:41She was amazing. She was perfect.
- 1:02:44We never should have had you. He doesn't say that part, but
- 1:02:47he's. Usually like we did it the right
- 1:02:49the first time, we didn't. Write the first time should have
- 1:02:50stopped. I think it's he's like, you
- 1:02:55know, so we just kind of got used to never saying no.
- 1:02:57And we created a little nightmare because when she
- 1:03:01started showing the same cravings as your mother, we
- 1:03:04didn't we didn't know how to teach her to control that shit.
- 1:03:07And just seems like, wait, what? And she goes, yeah, no, your mom
- 1:03:09was pretty tough. She was like you.
- 1:03:11She was a creeper. She was a clinger, except she
- 1:03:13chose somebody who was straight. So it worked out a little better
- 1:03:15for her and she figured out her ways to handle things, and I'm
- 1:03:19sure you will too. And this is where he's saying
- 1:03:21this as he's unbuttoning his shirt, which is a weird vibe.
- 1:03:24It's the reverse of Jacob taking his shirt off in front of
- 1:03:29Charlie. Yeah, yeah, you.
- 1:03:31Put your clothes back on, son. Put your clothes back on, Dad.
- 1:03:35And he just, like, opens his shirt and reveals that I guess
- 1:03:37Mom's way of dealing has just been chomping on that.
- 1:03:40Just taking some nibbles out of him.
- 1:03:42He's got scars all over. And then it's just like, yeah,
- 1:03:46look at that shit. That's that's what we are left
- 1:03:49with in this movie, OK. I just think this movie is
- 1:03:55amazing. It's beautifully shot.
- 1:03:57I just think it's neat. It's really disturbing, which is
- 1:04:00what you want in a horror movie. Makes you think, which is what I
- 1:04:04want sometimes in a horror movie.
- 1:04:06So I'm gonna keep it at A9. Yeah, keep in mind at an 8.
- 1:04:08OK. I like this movie.
- 1:04:10A Why? It's really powerful.
- 1:04:11It's really well done. I, you know, I, I hope people
- 1:04:16that are, I know there's a lot of people that are afraid to,
- 1:04:18are not afraid. They just don't really like to
- 1:04:20watch foreign movies because they don't like subtitles.
- 1:04:23But like, if that's a barrier for you, man, like try this
- 1:04:25movie out because like, it might make you feel like you might
- 1:04:29have been missing out on some good movies.
- 1:04:32Yeah. And we watch everything with
- 1:04:34subtitles anyway just because it, it kind of, it helps with
- 1:04:37like some auditory processing stuff.
- 1:04:40Yeah. So it's not.
- 1:04:44I'm desensitized to it anyway. I am too.
- 1:04:47I just, I don't remember like especially like from the last
- 1:04:50Drive in any time like a international movie would be
- 1:04:53shown, people be like, oh, it's fucking subtitled.
- 1:04:55I can't fucking stand that. Like, Nah, man, it's fine.
- 1:04:59It's good. Honestly, like seriously, if
- 1:05:02you're a little bit nervous about it, start watching
- 1:05:04subtitles with just like English shows, Yeah, like your, your
- 1:05:09predominant language. And that way the subtitles match
- 1:05:12and you just get used to having them on screen and you, you stop
- 1:05:15feeling like you're focused on reading the subtitles.
- 1:05:17It really just looks. Kind of second nature, yeah,
- 1:05:19like I when were at. 1st and it makes I.
- 1:05:20Started doing that. I thought for sure it was gonna
- 1:05:22be an invasive thing, having text over the image the entire
- 1:05:25time, but no, it becomes like natural after a certain point.
- 1:05:28Yeah, and it it makes it, it definitely helps kind of like
- 1:05:32take down some of the barrier to entry for foreign language
- 1:05:35films. And it does make it easier to
- 1:05:37process like the action going on on the screen, the tone at the
- 1:05:40same time is like reading the dialogue.
- 1:05:42And it's to the point now where like, I tend to prefer that over
- 1:05:45like dub stuff, anime notwithstanding, because of the
- 1:05:49cartoon. Anyway, the.
- 1:05:51My only problem with like animes and dubs is like you can't do a
- 1:05:55lot of times subtitles because a lot of times the subtitles match
- 1:05:58the actual Subs so it doesn't match the English dub.
- 1:06:01Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:06:02But yeah, the only problem I have with subtitled Movies Now
- 1:06:08is when we're trying to cover them on the show, because it's a
- 1:06:10lot too. It's hard make sure that we're
- 1:06:12touching sentences as they're being said cuz.
- 1:06:15You have to look down and like, see what you're writing.
- 1:06:16You have to deal with other words.
- 1:06:18Yeah. But it's, yeah, it's definitely
- 1:06:22if you want to do something outside your comfort zone, if
- 1:06:25that's the thing that's outside of your comfort zone, would
- 1:06:27recommend that. It opens you up to a lot of
- 1:06:30different movies out there. Amazing movies, yes.
- 1:06:33Who did you relate to? Earlier to that gas station
- 1:06:40truck driver, like, because he overheard them fucking talking
- 1:06:44about him and trashing him. Just like, I'm going to fuck
- 1:06:46with him. Like, you know what?
- 1:06:48I'll make them think maybe that is what I am.
- 1:06:50And then at the end he's like, by the way, I'm fucking with
- 1:06:52you. Yeah.
- 1:06:52So like, you know, yeah, that was fun.
- 1:06:56Unfortunately, I feel like I'm gonna relate to.
- 1:06:59Christine yeah. I mean, that was obvious from
- 1:07:01the get. Go Yeah, Based on all of the
- 1:07:03things that I've said up to this point, what do you, what do we
- 1:07:08think Talia thought of this? Tahia was fucking having a good
- 1:07:11time. She was over there playing with
- 1:07:13her toys. She was noshing on her shark.
- 1:07:16She's she did get scared though, because when it started getting
- 1:07:19to stuff with Quickie she insisted on getting between us.
- 1:07:22That's true, yeah. She had to be between US and she
- 1:07:25got she was very cuddly and she'd let me cover her eyes at
- 1:07:29the scary parts. Yeah, there was some sad moments
- 1:07:31for her here. So I think overall she would
- 1:07:34give it. She'd also give it an 8 because
- 1:07:36she would appreciate the punnery of it.
- 1:07:38Yeah, I think so too. Yeah.
- 1:07:40Who's Zoe's ultimate warrior? Come on, let's be real.
- 1:07:44It's Alex. Is it Alex?
- 1:07:47It's Alex Is gonna do whatever she can to get the food.
- 1:07:50So it's Justine. No, Alex is not apologetic about
- 1:07:54it. I don't think Justine is either.
- 1:07:57She's at first. Alex probably was at first, too,
- 1:08:01honestly. But that's not what we see in
- 1:08:02this movie. I guess that's true, yeah.
- 1:08:04If I were to give it to Alex, I would give it because of her,
- 1:08:07like ability to hunt. She hunts the people with the
- 1:08:10car trick. Also the eating until being
- 1:08:14stuffed, eating past the point of being.
- 1:08:16Comfortable. If so, it could eat to the point
- 1:08:18of being comatose. I think she would get herself
- 1:08:20there. Absolutely.
- 1:08:21That's. Her goal?
- 1:08:23So what is your dream sequel for this?
- 1:08:26Well man, this is a hard one. This is 1 I wouldn't want a
- 1:08:28sequel to, but if I got it all right, then I got it.
- 1:08:34Does Justine have a child of her own?
- 1:08:37I don't know, man, do we go that far?
- 1:08:40I think we do. So we do a big time skip, yes.
- 1:08:43How about it's whenever Alex is being released from prison,
- 1:08:47she's there to pick her up? So her sister she's reformed,
- 1:08:52maybe she's having the little Justine.
- 1:08:56Justine has followed her father's advice and tried to
- 1:08:59find ways to work around the the situation and she's been able to
- 1:09:05consistently so eat flesh while living a semi normal life.
- 1:09:09And maybe Alex is, like, a good person in this movie who's
- 1:09:15trying to not succumb to the temptation, even though her
- 1:09:18family is trying to, you know, let her know, hey, it's OK, you
- 1:09:22can do it. Like, we can do this.
- 1:09:24There's a way to do it. But she doesn't want to do that
- 1:09:26because she's had treatment. She's reformed.
- 1:09:29She feels better about herself. She's not breaking out in rashes
- 1:09:32all the time. And yeah, I guess like the
- 1:09:35conflict can go from there. OK, Have you got anything to?
- 1:09:38Happen. No.
- 1:09:39My brain was going in a completely opposite direction,
- 1:09:41but I didn't wanna disrupt your flow.
- 1:09:42Well. What was?
- 1:09:43Yours. Then my brain was merging our
- 1:09:47ideas together. So Justine has a kid, and Alex
- 1:09:51does come to live with her after she gets out of prison, but
- 1:09:53she's not actually reformed and has said she's trying to corrupt
- 1:09:56Justine's kids, just trying to show them how to be little
- 1:09:59hunters. And they're not like adults yet,
- 1:10:01so they're just confused more than anything.
- 1:10:03OK, you could do that too. I personally like the idea of
- 1:10:06like Alex's character changing. OK, but.
- 1:10:10Yeah, you know, whatever, there's options we have.
- 1:10:12Options. We have options we can do.
- 1:10:13This, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:10:14If we do it right, we could have like a completely different cut.
- 1:10:17Like do the same movie and have a different cut, yeah.
- 1:10:20Yeah, just like Halloween six. Yeah.
- 1:10:22OK, cool. All right, I guess it's time for
- 1:10:27reviews. Yes, I I have a user review and
- 1:10:33I actually like I had gotten a review from Reddit too, because
- 1:10:35I can't remember how you felt about this.
- 1:10:37I had a really nice review from Reddit, OK, where somebody just
- 1:10:40really loved it, but I found a low score on IMDb.
- 1:10:44OK. And this one was one that was
- 1:10:46hard because like a lot of them were just like the scripts
- 1:10:52there. What is the point of this?
- 1:10:53And that like kind of missing like the symbolism of
- 1:10:55everything. And like, I get it if you if you
- 1:10:58don't want to watch like kind of an artsy movie because it's kind
- 1:11:00of an artsy movie. Yeah, I wouldn't really call it
- 1:11:02super artsy, honestly, but yeah, maybe.
- 1:11:06I'm not saying it's art house. I wouldn't think it's artsy.
- 1:11:08I. Wouldn't even call this like
- 1:11:10elevated horror I think. I just think it's like well done
- 1:11:12horror. OK but this is definitely not a
- 1:11:15feel good movie. Acting was good.
- 1:11:17One out of 10. Acting was good, revealing the
- 1:11:21story was good as well. But if I'm the film release
- 1:11:23approver, I would not let the movie release.
- 1:11:26Terrorism and war is already in full swing and all over the
- 1:11:29world to kill humans. We don't need cannibals.
- 1:11:31In my opinion. Few scenes will make you feel
- 1:11:34nauseous. If you've suffered enough in
- 1:11:36life, you will take light. To be frank, I wouldn't
- 1:11:39recommend this movie. It just gives me nausea.
- 1:11:40Otherwise it won't entertain you in any sense.
- 1:11:43So it achieved what it set out to do basically.
- 1:11:46Yeah, OK. Like, you know what, this movie
- 1:11:49isn't going to be for everybody. If if you get grossed out and if
- 1:11:53it's like too much for you to handle this subject, that's
- 1:11:56definitely uncomfortable for people that are like, as
- 1:12:00desensitized as me and Jesse here.
- 1:12:03It's yeah. It was even heavy for us at
- 1:12:05times. Yeah.
- 1:12:06Yeah, it's it's a hard watch. I can definitely agree with
- 1:12:11that. But I don't think that's like a
- 1:12:13knock on the movie. I think that that means the
- 1:12:16movie did what it wanted to do. It means that it was pretty
- 1:12:18good. Yeah, I think.
- 1:12:20I think so. I like and I get it.
- 1:12:23It's not an easy movie to sit through.
- 1:12:25It has to be the type of thing that you would be interested in,
- 1:12:29yeah. So yeah.
- 1:12:31All right. Do we have listener reviews?
- 1:12:33No, we don't. No.
- 1:12:36Look, yeah, I get it. If y'all haven't seen it, it is
- 1:12:39what it is. Yeah, and it's not super easy to
- 1:12:41watch right now because it's like rental only.
- 1:12:43And also, I'm just gonna tell you this, if you're renting it
- 1:12:45on YouTube, there's a don't try, don't try and go through your
- 1:12:48TV's YouTube app. If you have a smart TV, which I
- 1:12:51assume most people do at this point cuz that seems to be all
- 1:12:53they sell, you're going to want to go through your phone and
- 1:12:58then rent it that way and then broadcast it to the TV.
- 1:13:03Because if you try and just rent it through the TV, it's going to
- 1:13:06tell you you have to buy it. It was really stupid.
- 1:13:09I don't understand why you 2 had to do a workaround.
- 1:13:13Why not offer a rental option on the TV?
- 1:13:15Yeah, it doesn't make any sense. And listen, in 2025, we're not
- 1:13:19paying to own digital media that there's no guarantee won't be
- 1:13:23taking. Yeah.
- 1:13:23You don't own that shit that you just own the ability to watch it
- 1:13:27whenever they want you to. Yeah, it's really fucking.
- 1:13:29And that's like when I was trying to rewatch old seasons of
- 1:13:32America's Next Top Model. I bought that seasons because
- 1:13:35that was the only way, but I just kind of look at them as
- 1:13:37long term rentals. Yeah, no, that's.
- 1:13:39How I see it? I've lost stuff.
- 1:13:41There's stuff, I think Sony deleted a lot of shit off of
- 1:13:44PlayStation. Like if you bought some shit on
- 1:13:46there, they deleted a bunch of it and it's just gone.
- 1:13:50Yeah, bullshit. It's really fucking stupid.
- 1:13:51That's why physical media is supreme.
- 1:13:54Yes, everybody buy physical media.
- 1:13:56Yeah. OK, cool.
- 1:14:00In that case, I guess it is time to go ahead and thank our
- 1:14:04patrons. Yeah.
- 1:14:04Thanks everybody. We have Joe.

- 1:15:44We're glad that we can talk about a French cannibalism kind
- 1:15:48of coming of age metaphor for sexual awakening.
- 1:15:52That's right, everybody. And the implications on just
- 1:15:55various facets of life. Anyway, I don't want to ramble
- 1:15:59too much next week. Next week we have another weird
- 1:16:02ass movie, a fucking fantastic movie that I am so happy that we
- 1:16:06are going to be talking about. It's going to be their Patreon
- 1:16:08voted episode. Hellraiser 2, Hellbound, or I
- 1:16:12guess I should say Hellbound Hellraiser 2.
- 1:16:14That's the actual title. And guess what, this one you can
- 1:16:17watch for free a lot of places. Yay, it's on 2B, Pluto TV,
- 1:16:21Philo, and Plex. Or if you have an AMC Plus
- 1:16:24subscription, a Sling TV premium subscription, a Prime Premium
- 1:16:27subscription, a YouTube TV premium subscription.
- 1:16:29I'm gonna say all YouTube TV subscriptions are premium
- 1:16:32subscriptions. That shit is not cheap.
- 1:16:34It's basically AMC. Three of those are other ones,
- 1:16:36but yeah, it's also on Shutter. And you can rent it through red
- 1:16:40Box, Google Play or Fandango at home.
- 1:16:43So those are all the watch options in contrast to this
- 1:16:46movie much more watchable. Please do yourself a favor, get
- 1:16:50acquainted with the movie It's. Good.
- 1:16:51I like it. It's fun.
- 1:16:53It's. I just think it's neat.
- 1:16:55It's my favorite Hellraiser. To be fair, I've only seen three
- 1:16:58of them, but out of the three I've seen, it's my favorite.
- 1:17:01So yeah, be on the lookout for that.
- 1:17:03We'll see you guys with that one next week.
- 1:17:05Yep, until then. Bye.
- 1:17:19Starring. Starring I can't read my I wrote
- 1:17:30my pronunciation out and now I can't read it.
- 1:17:37Garcin Oh no, I can't read either of my names right now.
