- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Stephen Willis
- 0:02Speaker 1: locked on Ole Miss with us today. Ole Miss, Florida
- 0:05Speaker 1: in the swamp. We are presented by PrizePix. All new
- 0:08Speaker 1: users there play a $ 5 lineup and get 150 in
- 0:11Speaker 1: lineups instantly if you win using code HMA.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Stephen, have you come down off of the emotional high?
- 0:16Speaker 1: We were just talking about it before we got on
- 0:20Speaker 1: of beating Lane Kiffin in Oxford.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Well, you know, you thought you're getting ready to go
- 0:26Speaker 3: play in the swamp and like there's a big stat
- 0:29Speaker 3: out there if Ole Miss can win this game as
- 0:31Speaker 3: far as what it could potentially mean. And then Lane
- 0:34Speaker 3: Kiffin just claims a moral victory in the middle of
- 0:36Speaker 3: the week over a game versus Ole Miss, a big
- 0:39Speaker 3: rivalry game. You play for a trophy and he's sitting
- 0:42Speaker 3: there bragging about tying the game back up and all
- 0:46Speaker 3: of that stuff. And it's some of the most funny
- 0:49Speaker 3: things that you can imagine, especially when you think about
- 0:53Speaker 3: how the LSU burners and everybody had been in lockstep
- 0:56Speaker 3: for about nine months, just attacking everybody. And now they
- 1:01Speaker 3: just get back and it's like, Oh, you tied the game.
- 1:04Speaker 3: It's like the banner, you know?
- 1:06Speaker 1: So I think that is, I don't buy into stuff
- 1:08Speaker 1: so much like off the field for many matchups.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I did a little bit last week. Cause I know
- 1:12Speaker 2: that one meant so much for, for both sides.
- 1:15Speaker 1: But that is probably a pretty good transition into, you know,
- 1:20Speaker 1: all of these teams that play, this weekend that are
- 1:24Speaker 1: tied to that game had really emotional highs and lows
- 1:28Speaker 1: last week. Ole miss obviously winning Florida, winning on the
- 1:30Speaker 1: road at Auburn. You can tell how much that meant
- 1:32Speaker 1: to summer all a and M getting their teeth kicked
- 1:34Speaker 1: in by Kentucky and then LSU losing on the road
- 1:36Speaker 1: at Oxford.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Like I think, all four of.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Those games involve some aspect of, man, we need to
- 1:43Speaker 1: pick ourselves back up or we need to not get
- 1:45Speaker 1: too high because we have a really good opponent that
- 1:47Speaker 1: we play this weekend. There's a lot of that that
- 1:51Speaker 1: Ole Miss will have to figure out. Florida will have
- 1:52Speaker 1: to figure out the other two.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Teams as well.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So I do kind of wonder for Ole Miss, a
- 1:57Speaker 1: lot of people look at this as a potential letdown
- 1:59Speaker 1: spot because it is a place that really good.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Teams have found it difficult to win.
- 2:03Speaker 1: You look at Texas last year, you look at Ole
- 2:04Speaker 1: Miss the year before, you look at what the swamp
- 2:06Speaker 1: can be and how good of a location that is
- 2:09Speaker 1: for them to play added in with how good Florida
- 2:12Speaker 1: looked against Auburn, how good they've looked this year.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But do you worry about that a little bit? Just like, okay,
- 2:18Speaker 2: let's refocus.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Let's kind of as great as last week was, let's
- 2:22Speaker 1: take a foot, you know, take a step down for
- 2:24Speaker 1: a minute and refocus for the game.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I think playing a top 25 ranked Florida team in
- 2:30Speaker 3: the swamp should have everybody's attention. That place is going
- 2:35Speaker 3: to be absolutely nuts. I, I talked with people all week.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I was like, one of the biggest breaks that Ole
- 2:40Speaker 3: Miss got was that game is at two 30 central
- 2:43Speaker 3: time or three 30 Eastern and not a night game
- 2:46Speaker 3: because the, that had all the elements of that place
- 2:49Speaker 3: being an absolute buzzsaw. And I do think when it's going,
- 2:52Speaker 3: it's the toughest place to play in the country. So
- 2:55Speaker 3: Ole Miss got that benefit. So you're going to have
- 2:58Speaker 3: Ole Miss's attention. Now, the weird thing is, during all
- 3:02Speaker 3: of this, when it was supposed to be Ole Miss's
- 3:04Speaker 3: Super Bowl, Ole Miss didn't do any of the gimmick
- 3:07Speaker 3: stuff or the motivation things, anything. It was just a
- 3:12Speaker 3: football game. You practice football, maybe it meant a lot
- 3:15Speaker 3: for players and things like that, but it never was
- 3:18Speaker 3: elevated above what it was. Now, if you transition down
- 3:21Speaker 3: to Baton Rouge, they're putting manufactured motivation on the screen
- 3:26Speaker 3: of something an Ole Miss player said. They are putting
- 3:29Speaker 3: the Ole Miss-Charlotte game on the facility. They're treating it
- 3:32Speaker 3: like bigger than the other games, which means if you
- 3:35Speaker 3: lose that game, you really have trouble coming back to
- 3:39Speaker 3: get it over, especially against a Texas A & M
- 3:42Speaker 3: team that drilled you the year before, and they're pretty motivated. So,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I think Florida being good when the game gets played
- 3:50Speaker 3: and the fact that Ole Miss didn't overly make that
- 3:53Speaker 3: LSU game more than it was. They actively tried to
- 3:56Speaker 3: kind of tamp it down a little bit as far
- 3:58Speaker 3: as the players go. The fans were obviously over the
- 4:01Speaker 3: moon for that. But I think that is going to
- 4:05Speaker 3: help Ole Miss going into this Florida game. Florida beating Auburn,
- 4:08Speaker 3: it's easier to do this off of a win. Coming
- 4:10Speaker 3: off of a loss, the Texas A & M LSU
- 4:13Speaker 3: thing that you said, Both of those are going to
- 4:16Speaker 3: be much more difficult. And one of those two teams
- 4:19Speaker 3: is basically going to be eliminated from the playoff after
- 4:22Speaker 3: this game. And so that gets put on it as well.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Hey guys, I'll get right back to chatting with Stephen
- 4:28Speaker 1: Willis of Locked On Ole Miss. But first, do me
- 4:29Speaker 1: a favor. Make sure you are subscribed right here. Make

- 4:38Speaker 1: description just to subscribe to audio. It doesn't even matter
- 4:41Speaker 1: to me if you don't listen to it. but just
- 4:42Speaker 1: being subscribed will help us tremendously. If you miss any
- 4:45Speaker 1: of the SEC content that we do here on SEC
- 4:47Speaker 1: Football Addiction, it'll be right there for you on Spotify,
- 4:50Speaker 1: Apple Podcasts, wherever you end up subscribing. We appreciate that
- 4:53Speaker 1: support a ton. Good luck this weekend. Let's talk with
- 4:55Speaker 1: Stephen Moore about it. When you look at this game
- 4:58Speaker 1: in the matchup, the thing that a lot of people
- 5:01Speaker 1: will look at is turn it out on one side
- 5:03Speaker 1: and Jaden ball on the other side. Obviously they're never
- 5:05Speaker 1: on the field at the same time, but I think
- 5:08Speaker 1: for both teams where I think Florida can be exploited,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I think Trinidad is not a good matchup, really not
- 5:14Speaker 1: just for Florida, but for anybody because of how good
- 5:16Speaker 1: he is. But then we're all missed can be exploited. They've,
- 5:19Speaker 1: they've had a lot of missed tackles this year. I
- 5:21Speaker 1: don't know that you want to see Jaden ball on
- 5:22Speaker 1: the other side because he, he's one of the best
- 5:24Speaker 1: running backs in the country, if not the best running through, through,
- 5:27Speaker 1: you know, the first three games of the year. So
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think whichever team can avoid the mistakes and not
- 5:34Speaker 1: necessarily mistakes like turnovers or like that, that stuff happens,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but like, yeah, Ole Miss can't lead the league league
- 5:39Speaker 1: and miss tackles this weekend, right?
- 5:41Speaker 2: Like, because Jaden ball run for 200 yards.
- 5:43Speaker 1: If that's the case, Florida cannot let Trinidad Chambliss, you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: exploit what they want to do on the backend, uh,
- 5:48Speaker 1: throwing the ball.
- 5:49Speaker 2: We, we saw Auburn have success, uh, doing some of
- 5:52Speaker 2: these things.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And so to me, the team that can keep that
- 5:54Speaker 1: better in check and fix some of the problems that
- 5:56Speaker 1: they've had is probably going to be the team that
- 5:59Speaker 1: wins this thing.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Ole Miss wins this game unless you
- 6:03Speaker 3: get to a stat line of like Jaden Baugh, 27
- 6:06Speaker 3: carries for 190 yards. I think that's the bridge too far.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I think 27 for 120, you can survive that. That's
- 6:14Speaker 3: something you can make. That means there was no explosives.
- 6:17Speaker 3: And if there was an explosive, He's probably not very
- 6:20Speaker 3: good for the rest of the game, so you can
- 6:22Speaker 3: survive that. I just don't think you can let that
- 6:25Speaker 3: get absolutely nuts because once he gets going, they're going
- 6:29Speaker 3: to start with a play-action game, they're going to start
- 6:31Speaker 3: with a screen game, and they're going to open up
- 6:33Speaker 3: this defense a little bit. Now, Trinidad, with that secondary,
- 6:39Speaker 3: I was actually a little bit surprised to see that
- 6:41Speaker 3: Florida was ranked 98th in the country, secondary-wise, And when
- 6:46Speaker 3: you look at this, specifically the inside wide receivers, the
- 6:50Speaker 3: matchup in this game is not necessarily Trinidad because Trinidad,
- 6:54Speaker 3: Trinidad's Trinidad. He's going to be fine. But you take
- 6:56Speaker 3: Caleb Odom, you take Traylon Ray, you take Jontae Cook
- 6:59Speaker 3: in the middle of Florida's defense, the wide receivers and
- 7:04Speaker 3: the tight ends against the safeties, that is where the
- 7:07Speaker 3: Ole Miss offense is probably going to work this year
- 7:10Speaker 3: or this week. Yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 1: What did Ole Miss do well to you against LSU
- 7:16Speaker 1: that held LSU down for a large portion of the game?
- 7:20Speaker 1: And then what did they do poorly that they need
- 7:22Speaker 1: to fix that allowed LSU to come back? What would
- 7:25Speaker 1: be your two keys maybe to the game of do
- 7:28Speaker 1: more of this, do less of this?
- 7:31Speaker 3: Basically, in the first half, they just completely obliterated the run.
- 7:34Speaker 3: They played up at the line of scrimmage. They trusted
- 7:36Speaker 3: their defensive backs. They knew they had a quarterback that
- 7:39Speaker 3: could not hurt them. We all thought that Sam Leavitt
- 7:42Speaker 3: was better than he was potentially, but the Ole Miss
- 7:45Speaker 3: coaching staff obviously did not respect what was going on
- 7:49Speaker 3: with Sam Leavitt, and they just sold out and stopped
- 7:50Speaker 3: the run. LSU went three and out like the first
- 7:53Speaker 3: three possessions of the game, and at that point you're
- 7:55Speaker 3: in a hole. I think that's going to be important.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Selling out, not selling out, there's a negative connotation with that,
- 8:03Speaker 3: but they need to really work to stop Jaden Ball
- 8:06Speaker 3: and what's going on there and force Aaron Filo to
- 8:08Speaker 3: beat you. um over the air now he might be
- 8:11Speaker 3: able to do it but you want to force him
- 8:13Speaker 3: to actually do it in the second half they just
- 8:17Speaker 3: need to play cleaner they have a quarter every game
- 8:20Speaker 3: and it's usually the third quarter they had a bad
- 8:23Speaker 3: one against louisville bad one against charlotte a bad one
- 8:25Speaker 3: against lsu to where they just weren't sharp offensively passes
- 8:30Speaker 3: were a little bit low everything weren't weren't in the
- 8:32Speaker 3: right spot there was an interception that gave LSU a
- 8:35Speaker 3: short field that allowed the momentum to happen. If you
- 8:38Speaker 3: look at actually what went down, they didn't play poorly
- 8:43Speaker 3: so much in that third quarter. You just gave them
- 8:45Speaker 3: a short field and give Charlie Weiss and Lane Kiffin
- 8:48Speaker 3: a short field. They're going to figure out a way
- 8:49Speaker 3: to manufacture points. And at that point they found something
- 8:52Speaker 3: that worked and they were able to run the football.
- 8:54Speaker 3: So I think Ole Miss needs to continue to commit
- 8:58Speaker 3: to stopping the run. And on the other side of
- 9:02Speaker 3: the ball, they need to, basically take care of it
- 9:06Speaker 3: and continue to play clean because when you don't play
- 9:09Speaker 3: clean the other team that gap gets narrow and whenever
- 9:12Speaker 3: it gets narrow they can beat you.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Um we still don't have a solid update right on
- 9:18Speaker 1: lacy do you not expect him to play and if
- 9:21Speaker 1: not thoughts around how that room will look because old
- 9:24Speaker 1: miss you know relied on trinidad pretty heavily uh would
- 9:29Speaker 1: they ask him to go out and do it all
- 9:31Speaker 1: himself again or are there other guys there that can
- 9:33Speaker 1: can kind of carry the load.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Kiwan Lacey is a special player. What I'm about to say,
- 9:38Speaker 3: I don't want that to be glossed over. But Ole
- 9:41Speaker 3: Miss is okay with Makai Frazier and JT Lindsey playing
- 9:45Speaker 3: running back. If you want any proof of that against LSU,
- 9:48Speaker 3: basically we were told all week that was the 85
- 9:51Speaker 3: Bears defense that LSU had. You had a true freshman
- 9:55Speaker 3: running the football on fourth and one and carrying the
- 9:57Speaker 3: ball on the two-point conversion. Whenever you trust them to
- 9:59Speaker 3: do that that obviously means that you trust them to
- 10:02Speaker 3: run the ball and and do what they're supposed to
- 10:04Speaker 3: do and that was without the backup running back is
- 10:07Speaker 3: Makai Frazier who was the starter at Michigan State a
- 10:10Speaker 3: year ago so I don't think you're looking at a
- 10:13Speaker 3: situation like twenty twenty four when Ole Miss is going
- 10:15Speaker 3: to line up a fifth string backup wide receiver at
- 10:18Speaker 3: running back because the starter got hurt at Arkansas. I
- 10:23Speaker 3: think Ole Miss has the depth at the running back
- 10:25Speaker 3: position where you're not going to be as explosive potentially
- 10:29Speaker 3: as what you were with Kiwan Lacey. But you're not
- 10:31Speaker 3: going to be in a negative like you were in
- 10:33Speaker 3: twenty twenty four.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Obviously everybody in the country knows about Jaden ball. Florida's
- 10:38Speaker 1: weapons out wide are, are pretty spectacular too. When you
- 10:41Speaker 1: think about Verno Brown, you think about Dallas Wilson, they
- 10:44Speaker 1: could get Singleton back this week. We'll see kind of
- 10:47Speaker 1: probably game time decision there. And I think Philo has
- 10:50Speaker 1: been better than I expected this year. I kind of
- 10:52Speaker 1: thought he'd come in and just be a game manager,
- 10:54Speaker 1: their offensive line, man, John Summerall complained about that, like
- 10:57Speaker 1: all off season.
- 10:58Speaker 2: And I think that's been mostly fine too.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I think they've got a really good offense and this
- 11:02Speaker 1: should be a game with a lot of points and
- 11:04Speaker 1: it should be a lot of fun for, the casual
- 11:05Speaker 1: fan and it should cause some heart palpitations for Ole
- 11:08Speaker 1: Miss fans in Florida fans. But talk to me a
- 11:11Speaker 1: little bit about Ole Miss's defense, because you mentioned a
- 11:14Speaker 1: little bit when we talked about that LSU game, like
- 11:16Speaker 1: what kind of went wrong, but man, Ole Miss's defense
- 11:19Speaker 1: will have like a shutdown half, like the first half
- 11:21Speaker 1: against LSU, the first half against Louisville.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And then they'll have halves where the other team is
- 11:26Speaker 2: able to move it. Now I'm of the firm belief
- 11:28Speaker 2: that good offense is typically going to be good defense
- 11:31Speaker 2: in the NBA, in, you know, the NFL and college football.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But just thoughts on slowing down an offense for Florida
- 11:38Speaker 1: that I think is better than any of us would
- 11:40Speaker 1: have maybe predicted before the season.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the most underrated unit in this game
- 11:45Speaker 3: is the Ole Miss defense. You're going to look at
- 11:47Speaker 3: the missed tackles and things like that. And the front
- 11:50Speaker 3: seven for Ole Miss is one of the better units
- 11:52Speaker 3: in the entire SEC. It is. The problem is they've
- 11:57Speaker 3: been having to nerf that unit to protect against a
- 12:00Speaker 3: defensive backfield that's busting coverages, missing tackles, trying to protect
- 12:05Speaker 3: them as best they can. They did not do that
- 12:07Speaker 3: in the first half against LSU, and you kind of
- 12:09Speaker 3: saw that. William Echols, what he did probably is borderline assault.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I think the LSU left guard had a 12 PFF
- 12:19Speaker 3: grade in pass pro because of what William Echols did.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Seven pressures in the game from a three technique. He
- 12:26Speaker 3: could be really good and dominant if you let him.
- 12:29Speaker 3: The problem is once you get to the point where
- 12:32Speaker 3: you're rushing three and you're dropping eight, it takes a
- 12:35Speaker 3: little bit of the teeth off of that front seven
- 12:37Speaker 3: because you're doing pass coverage. So it's going to be
- 12:41Speaker 3: imperative in this game for me, in my opinion, that
- 12:44Speaker 3: that doesn't happen to Jaden Ball. You attack that run.
- 12:48Speaker 3: You attack and play downfield. Is he going to break one? Yeah, probably.
- 12:52Speaker 3: But you're going to score points. They're going to score points.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I think in this game, Ole Miss scores 30 against
- 12:58Speaker 3: just about everybody. hold 40 under 30, you're probably going
- 13:02Speaker 3: to win the game. Yeah.
- 13:03Speaker 2: No, I like that line.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I think first team to 31, 34, somewhere in there
- 13:07Speaker 1: probably has a really good chance, but also it could
- 13:09Speaker 1: be like 40.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Like the line could be 40 on this thing with,
- 13:13Speaker 2: with these good, but he's good. He's he's the best.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I think he's the best coordinator hire that anybody made
- 13:19Speaker 1: this off season. Like without Ikea is so, so good.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And I don't think he's going to be there long.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Like I think somebody is going to snatch him as
- 13:26Speaker 1: a head coach. I've been, I'm, I'm obviously very impressed with,
- 13:30Speaker 1: with Ole Miss and what they've, what they've done so far.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I think they have the, I mean, certainly think they
- 13:36Speaker 1: have the best two wins in the country. You can
- 13:38Speaker 1: argue that, you know, certainly Texas has the best singular
- 13:41Speaker 1: win of the season. I think Ole Miss should probably
- 13:44Speaker 1: be ranked two at the lowest right now, but maybe
- 13:47Speaker 1: we won't split hairs over like two and four, but
- 13:49Speaker 1: just Ole Miss this year has a chance to now
- 13:52Speaker 1: have a third ranked win. on their schedule, at which
- 13:55Speaker 1: point you do have to have a serious conversation about
- 13:58Speaker 1: where they're ranked.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And, and what's ahead of them.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I think a lot of people expected a drop off
- 14:03Speaker 1: this year, which I can understand with Lane going and
- 14:06Speaker 1: Charlie going and a few pieces going and some uncertainty
- 14:11Speaker 1: at certain places, but man, they brought back the best
- 14:13Speaker 1: quarterback in the country and they brought back a defensive
- 14:17Speaker 1: coordinator that I don't think people are, you know, they
- 14:19Speaker 1: brought back Golding who I don't think a lot of
- 14:21Speaker 1: people had enough faith in, but We'll see what happens
- 14:24Speaker 1: on Saturday.
- 14:24Speaker 2: He certainly seems to have it humming right now, though,
- 14:26Speaker 2: at Ole Miss.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Yeah, the funny thing is, whenever Lane went out and
- 14:31Speaker 3: all that, Ole Miss retained their whole defensive staff, defensive
- 14:35Speaker 3: line coach, linebackers, both the safeties and the defensive coordinator,
- 14:40Speaker 3: which is going to be Brian Brown. And Ole Miss
- 14:43Speaker 3: returned the quarterback coach and the offensive line coach as well.
- 14:46Speaker 3: But they all talk about how everybody mass went to LSU.
- 14:49Speaker 3: almost returned seven coaches off of that staff a year
- 14:52Speaker 3: ago and only lost four players. And if you go
- 14:55Speaker 3: back to it, in the BCS and playoff era, three
- 14:59Speaker 3: teams have won three games against ranked opponents in September.
- 15:04Speaker 3: That's 2006 Ohio State, 2011 LSU, and 2017 Clemson. Every
- 15:05Speaker 3: one of those teams played for the national championship. There
- 15:07Speaker 3: is something about that potentially is going for Ole Miss
- 15:18Speaker 3: in their favor if they can get the win in
- 15:20Speaker 3: the swamp. But it's going to be very difficult.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Do you have a score in this one?
- 15:25Speaker 3: I got Ole Miss winning 34-28. I'm not going to
- 15:28Speaker 3: bet against six in any game that he plays.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I'm the same way.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I certainly think that Florida could win this game. And
- 15:34Speaker 1: it honestly would not surprise me that much if Florida
- 15:37Speaker 1: won this game. But I won't bet against Trinidad until
- 15:40Speaker 1: he gives me many, many reasons to doubt him. And
- 15:44Speaker 1: if they lose this game 41-38, I ain't.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Putting that on him either. So I'm right there with you.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Tell me what you got coming this week, where people
- 15:52Speaker 1: can find you, and the content that you'll do all
- 15:55Speaker 1: the way up to kickoff and then afterwards.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Yeah, we have a morning show, the main show, the
