- 0:00Hi, friends and welcome back to Kathie's Coaching podcast.
- 0:04It's been a while since I've released an episode, and that pause was intentional.
- 0:10Over the last few months, I've stepped away from creating content so I could go inward, clear the noise, and actually listen to what was trying to come through.
- 0:20I've been doing deep work emotionally, spiritually, creatively, and that work led me to a kind of clarity I have never had before.
- 0:31I've been analyzing dreams, reconnecting with my intuition, and understanding the patterns that have shaped my life and the work that I do.
- 0:40And what came out of that process is today's episode.
- 0:45This message is different.
- 0:47It's more personal, more honest, and it feels like the beginning of a new chapter, not only in my coaching and consulting, but in who I am as a human being.
- 0:57If you've been wondering what I've been working on.
- 1:00This is it.
- 1:01This is the story behind my gift, my lineage, my vision, and why I do the work I do.
- 1:09So thank you for being here.
- 1:11Whether you've been listening from the beginning or this is your first time, I'm excited for what's ahead and I'm grateful to share this moment and this message with you.
- 1:21Now, let's get into the episode.
- 1:25Kathie Owen, Seeing What Others Don't See.
- 1:31Have you ever lived your whole life assuming everyone sees the world the exact same way you do?
- 1:38And then suddenly realize.
- 1:40They don't, not even close.
- 1:43And the thing you've been doing effortlessly, the thing you thought was normal.
- 1:48Is actually your superpower.
- 1:51That realization didn't just change how I see myself.
- 1:54It changed how I see my entire family.
- 1:59I come from a long line of people who see patterns, not just in the physical world, but in the spiritual world too.
- 2:06My grandfather had a PhD in theology.
- 2:09He didn't just read scripture, he decoded it.
- 2:13He saw symbolism, structure, metaphor, patterns of consciousness woven through every verse.
- 2:20My father inherited that mind, but he expressed it in mathematics, not arithmetic.
- 2:273D math.
- 2:30I can remember as a kid watching my dad sit in his lounger chair and he would hold up his hand like an invisible graph, and he would watch imaginary shapes.
- 2:41Rotate inside of it.
- 2:43He assumed everyone else could see those shapes too, and he would get frustrated when they didn't.
- 2:51My older brother became a civil engineer mapping underground systems and predicting the flow of entire cities.
- 2:57My younger brother became a traffic engineer.
- 3:00Someone who can sense what drivers will do before they do it, and both of them have their own versions of that frustration.
- 3:09Road rage, sports rage.
- 3:11Why can't people just think?
- 3:14Because in my family, anger wasn't anger.
- 3:18It was misunderstood intelligence.
- 3:21And the belief that everyone else could see what we saw.
- 3:27When my son, Kyle was young, I helped him with algebra, the complex equations and variables.
- 3:33Easy.
- 3:34But if he asked me something simple like, mom, what's seven plus three?
- 3:38I would freeze.
- 3:39Kyle would say, how can you do the hard math but not the easy math?
- 3:45And that's when I understood.
- 3:47My brain doesn't see numbers.
- 3:49It sees patterns just like the rest of my family, but in a completely different dimension.
- 3:56Sports were practically our family language.
- 3:59My brothers watched baseball like it was a strategic blueprint where the batter would hit when the outfield should shift.
- 4:07Why positioning mattered the logic behind every movement.
- 4:10And they would get so mad when players didn't move the way the pattern said they should, because again, they assumed everyone saw what they saw.
- 4:22But I was watching something entirely different.
- 4:25I was reading the emotional pattern, the pitcher's confidence.
- 4:29Evaporating the batter shame.
- 4:31After striking out the instant, a team psychology shifted.
- 4:35The diva athlete, who wasn't dramatic at all, he was overflowing with un channeled brilliance.
- 4:42My brothers saw the physical geometry.
- 4:45My father saw the mathematical geometry.
- 4:48My grandfather saw spiritual geometry, and I saw the emotional geometry of the human experience.
- 4:56But here's the wild part.
- 4:58For years I thought everyone watched sports that way.
- 5:02They don't.
- 5:04Then I watched Kyle and Kody grow into the same gift.
- 5:08Kyle senses emotional momentum before the commentators ever mention it.
- 5:12Kody sees the entire field like a chess board, and yes, they get frustrated too, just like my brothers, just like my dad, just like my grandfather, because they think, why doesn't everyone see this?
- 5:29But they don't.
- 5:30The pattern is inherited.
- 5:33The expression is unique.
- 5:36My family maps, theology, geometry, cities, pipes, traffic, sports strategy, but I map people.
- 5:44When I walk into a room, I instantly sense who's anxious, who's over-functioning, who's misunderstood, who's hiding, who has misdirected brilliance, who carries the emotional weight, who is one breath away from a breakthrough and where the real momentum is, not because I judge.
- 6:06Because people are patterns, and patterns reveal truth.
- 6:14And somewhere along the way I realized that the very thing my family struggled with, the frustration of seeing what others couldn't see became the thing I built my life around.
- 6:25I help people and teams understand their own emotional patterns, their momentum shifts, their blind spots, their hidden strengths, because the same way my father map geometry and my grandfather map scripture, I map human behavior.
- 6:41And what once felt like too much or overthinking or why don't they get it is now the exact gift I use to help people transform their lives.
- 6:53My work isn't something I chose.
- 6:55It's something I inherited and finally understood.
- 7:01So I'll end where I began.
- 7:03I spent most of my life thinking, everyone saw the world the way I do.
- 7:08My dad thought that.
- 7:10My brothers thought that.
- 7:11My sons thought that.
- 7:12And the frustration we all carried, it wasn't anger.
- 7:15It was genius trying to find its place.
- 7:19We thought everyone saw the pattern.
- 7:21They didn't.
- 7:22We did.
- 7:23And now I finally understand this is my superpower.
- 7:28So if there's something you do instinctively, something so natural, you barely notice it.
- 7:34Something that once made you feel different or misunderstood, look again, your greatest gift might be the very thing you assumed everyone else could do.
- 7:47Thank you.
