- 0:13Speaker 1: Music.
- 0:13Speaker 1: All right, good morning everybody.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We are back Thursday, thank you God.
- 1:59Speaker 1: This is a special Thursday because it is Thanksgiving in the US, and where else would I be, y'all, where else would I be, especially on this day, coming in to talk to you and share with you before we kind of get into the day?
- 2:14Speaker 1: So today is a special.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I think it's a special episode, but not just because it's Thanksgiving.
- 2:22Speaker 1: The part one of this conversation we had last week we talked about preparing our hearts for today, and I'm just looking Good morning Nat.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm just looking back at some of the notes that I shared last Thursday.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Y'all, it feels like time's flying by, but we talked about our character, preparing our hearts and minds.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I asked you guys to really think not just about yourselves and the folks that you're coming in contact with, your family, that we're so blessed to have, but also want you to think about the folks who are looking at empty chairs at their table.
- 2:57Speaker 1: This year, lost family members, people who have no food at their table and those who are alone.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So if you are one of those individuals this morning, if you have an empty chair at your table, if you're in mourning, if you've got no food at your table.
- 3:12Speaker 1: If you're feeling alone, y'all, I'm here with you.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Ok, I'm literally here with you, worshiping with you, to also lift your spirit.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And so, as we're talking today about Thanksgiving and just being so grateful to God and embracing His love and kindness on this particular day, we're going to reflect on some of the ways that, even as we're working through this day, that, as believers, how we come in contact with this season, how we really reflect on how we can better model Christ in the way that we interact and treat each other.
- 3:49Speaker 1: On this day, on this day, on this day.
- 3:52Speaker 1: So, father, we just thank you so much for another opportunity to come before you, lord, and especially on this day of Thanksgiving.
- 3:59Speaker 1: On this day of Thanksgiving, we give you thanks.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We thank you, lord, we thank you for everything.
- 4:06Speaker 1: We thank you for doors open, doors closing.
- 4:08Speaker 1: We thank you for those who placed around us.
- 4:12Speaker 1: We thank you for comfort, lord, god, in times of grief.
- 4:15Speaker 1: We thank you, lord, that those who have no food will find food.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Today, we thank you, lord, god, that those who are alone are not alone.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Today, we thank you that these words are going to go out and echo and be seized, planted in others' lives and we just thank you for your grace.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Amen, amen, y'all.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Before I got started, I was sitting here having a holy bath.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Oh, good morning God.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Good morning God.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I was having a whole conversation with the Holy Spirit.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Sometimes we talk about what the people on the streets are saying because I realize I'm on multiple platforms.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So good morning folks on Facebook, good morning LinkedIn, good morning YouTube, good morning Twitter and good morning Parade Deck, faith Channel and wherever else this goes.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And the question that I get asked a lot now is why I'm doing this.
- 5:03Speaker 1: So I was glancing over because I have my marching orders from the Lord and I know I shared this earlier.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I think I shared this earlier this week.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Y'all, my job is not my purpose.
- 5:15Speaker 1: My career is not my purpose.
- 5:18Speaker 1: That is not my purpose.
- 5:20Speaker 1: The call of my life is, as it says in Isaiah 61, I'm looking over here because that's what my Bible is is to bind up the brokenhearted, those broken in spirit.
- 5:32Speaker 1: As it says in Isaiah 61, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives Again, captives also in our minds right and opening of the prison to those who are bound.
- 5:46Speaker 1: How is proclaiming the year of the Lord's favor?
- 5:49Speaker 1: It's through Him.
- 5:50Speaker 1: That's my purpose and I just wanted to start with that because I get that question a whole lot.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Y'all, y'all, my career is not my calling Amen.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So today we're going into Thanksgiving I don't know who that's for, so I might need to hear that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But this listen, I'm just going to go with the flow, thank you, lord.
- 6:12Speaker 1: So we're going to go into I'm going to share my screen a few times today because we're going to have a little bit longer of verses, and first thing we're going to talk about is reflecting on Christ in our behavior, in our relationship.
- 6:24Speaker 1: So I'm going to share.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I'm going to start with Philippians 2.
- 6:28Speaker 1: So just bear with me, y'all.
- 6:31Speaker 1: And so, for those of you who are listening to what I'm doing right now, I'm just pulling up Bible Gateway and I'm going to go into Philippians 2.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And I'm going to share my screen.
- 6:41Speaker 1: This is the ESV version and here we're talking about today, right, we're in Thanksgiving.
- 6:47Speaker 1: So it talks about the example of Christ as humility and it starts off by saying so if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the spirit, the Holy Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind, of one mind.
- 7:17Speaker 1: So here we're talking about how we're showing up today, even before you sit down at the table, the way you go about preparing the meal, or how you're greeting friends and family at the door right.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And if you're the ones who are alone, like I said, I'm at your table with you, ok.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But even if you're alone and you're coming to that table by yourself, know that there is encouragement in Christ, any comfort and love and any participation in the spirit that you're coming with affection and sympathy.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Verse 3 says do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Today isn't the day to grab the bragging rights.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Today isn't a day so you can show off your.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Look at my house, it's bigger than yours, type thing.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Today is a day of humility counting others more significant than yourselves.
- 8:18Speaker 1: This is that heart posture.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Again, we're modeling the life of Christ and this is so counter to what a lot of us are gonna do today.
- 8:27Speaker 1: A lot of us gonna use this as this is my day to brag.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Let each of you look not only to his own interest but also to the interest of others.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Have this mind among yourselves which is yours in Christ Jesus.
- 8:43Speaker 1: He wants us to enter into this day, this day that we're talking about how grateful we are and how thankful we are.
- 8:53Speaker 1: But we don't wanna make this a season of boasting y'all.
- 8:56Speaker 1: We're looking at his example of being humble, counting others more significant than yourself.
- 9:04Speaker 1: If you come into today like that, thinking about how you're gonna serve those who God has placed in your life, not taking your family for granted, not showing up through selfish ambition, not showing up in conceit or bragging rights, but coming from a position of comfort and love and affection and sympathy, completing my joy says the same mind of Christ being on in full accord and one mind coming into this day.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Why is this important, y'all?
- 9:34Speaker 1: Because when we come into this day and don't I talk about this all the time you've gotta be acutely aware that people are watching your move.
- 9:43Speaker 1: You can't claim to be a daughter of God or son of God or whatever title you'll give yourself, and then you show up, counter to what he does.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Why is it so important that we show up like this?
- 9:56Speaker 1: It's because through us, we're trying to show those around us how God operates.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Through us, when I ask God and I say, lord, glorify yourself through me.
- 10:10Speaker 1: It means that Shelley me, my flesh, the way I think, all of those are aligned back to what he does, he thinks, the way he walks, right, he can glorify himself through me because we're in alignment.
- 10:28Speaker 1: So I have to be in a different posture of humility, isn't that something?
- 10:36Speaker 1: But that's how that's.
- 10:38Speaker 1: The first point is really thinking about how we're reflecting, how we're modeling Christ and our behavior today.
- 10:44Speaker 1: This is such a good time how we can really really show others our relationship with each other and how we have the mindset of Christ.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And then you can talk about hey, I found God.
- 10:59Speaker 1: You don't even have to say it, people will see it.
- 11:02Speaker 1: So we're coming into this day with that as the first thing.
- 11:06Speaker 1: The second thing I wanna talk about is the power of our words.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So we're gonna go to James, and so I'm gonna share my screen again for this one, because there's a few verses that I hope this is helping somebody.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It's really helping me, y'all, it's really helping me.
- 11:20Speaker 1: But James three.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So I'm gonna share my screen again, and this is James three.
- 11:26Speaker 1: We talk about the taming of the tongue, taming of the tongue, and I just wanna pull out a few things here.
- 11:32Speaker 1: So, james three, verse one it says not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Listen, there are many of us who have taken the posture in our families where the Lord has says you, you, you, you gonna break the chains in your family.
- 11:55Speaker 1: That's what you're gonna do.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Your, his hand is upon you.
- 11:59Speaker 1: He's blessed you so that you're that person who does that.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Not many of you should become teachers.
- 12:06Speaker 1: You know why?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Because we who teach me included, would be will be judged with greater strictness.
- 12:15Speaker 1: The word goes on to say that we stumble in many ways, and if you don't stumble, let's be a perfect man also, able to bridle his whole body, abridle the bits that we do.
- 12:26Speaker 1: You put in the mouth of horses so they obey us, they lead us, they guide us.
- 12:30Speaker 1: If you put a bit in a horse's mouth, it's to guide, so that you can guide that whole animal.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Okay, so this tongue in verse five also.
- 12:42Speaker 1: The tongue is a small membrane.
- 12:43Speaker 1: It boasts some great things.
- 12:45Speaker 1: The tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness.
- 12:49Speaker 1: It's set among our members, different parts of our bodies, our hands, the way our hands work, works together where our feet goes, the path that we create, the way our mind works, but our tongues can stain the whole body, setting on fire the entire course, not only of life, but setting on fire by hell.
- 13:11Speaker 1: What does it mean, the taming of our tongue today?
- 13:15Speaker 1: What does it mean the taming of our tongue today, this thing that we're going into today, when we are coming in good morning Kamari.
- 13:24Speaker 1: When we're coming in and we're talking to friends and family, it's so important that you're careful what you say today, what you say today.
- 13:36Speaker 1: So, as you sit at the table and maybe you're the family that goes around and you talk about the things that you wanna be grateful for today, I'm gonna say this to you you can't bless and curse out of the same mouth.
- 13:49Speaker 1: You can't get up from the table after you just said all the things you're grateful for, you go in the kitchen, you start complaining to each other.
- 13:57Speaker 1: You're gonna erase the blessing that you just asked for.
- 14:01Speaker 1: You're gonna curse yourselves Right.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Today is not a day to complain about who burnt the food, food's recipe didn't work, who came late.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Today is not the day for that.
- 14:17Speaker 1: This day of Thanksgiving, when we're thinking about how we are positioning, not just with ourselves.
- 14:23Speaker 1: There are angels around us taking notes about what we do, all of us believers understanding that, how we're the temple, that the Holy Spirit is with us.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You know who I perform my whole life for is that audience of one?
- 14:37Speaker 1: And so tomorrow, when you bounce out of Thanksgiving Day and you start thinking about preparing for Christmas and you know you're already thinking about what the new year looks like it is so important that you're mindful of what you say today, this day of being thankful and grateful and honoring God and everything that you do, but also honor him and what you say and what you say to the people who's placed in your lives.
- 15:07Speaker 1: So the last thing I want to share is gratitude and contentment.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Gratitude and contentment.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I'm going to read this one.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I'm not going to share it.
- 15:15Speaker 1: This is coming from Philippians 4, verse 11, and through 13.
- 15:22Speaker 1: And it says not that I'm speaking of being in need, for I've learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I know how to be brought low and I know how to abound.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And in any and every circumstances, circumstance, I've learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
- 15:46Speaker 1: And it says in 13, I can do all things.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Through him, who strengthens me, I've learned to be content, regardless of what situation or season I'm in.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And how is?
- 16:02Speaker 1: Because I know that I can do all things to through him, who strengthens me.
- 16:06Speaker 1: This is going to be something that I want to encourage those of you who are sitting at the table alone today, and for those of you all who have family coming over.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Maybe today is a day that you bring a plate to a neighbor or just stop by and check in on you know, folks that live in your neighborhood, you know, maybe take a walk after dinner, after dinner tonight, and you just go and check on your friends and your family members.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But for those of you all who are sitting in this space, where you're alone, even being alone and being content with that position that you're in, knowing that all things are still working together for your good and that you can do all things, everything, everything through Christ, and I just want to encourage you, those of you who are going to be sitting alone today, where you don't have the hum of family and the hum of activity and your heart is broken because there's a loss that even now, even now that God will comfort you and that you will be content, you'll be okay where you're at, knowing that he still loves you and that you can still find his strength to do all things.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You can do all things through Christ, who strengthens you.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Amen.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Y'all this is.
- 17:25Speaker 1: This is more than just another thanksgiving for me, because of what I'm asking God for for my family.
- 17:31Speaker 1: If you're in the market for, for breaking generational curses because we see that all the time I don't have generational curses, I'm generationally blessed, even that.
- 17:41Speaker 1: You know even that.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Stop cursing yourselves, right.
- 17:44Speaker 1: But if you're in the market to make some real changes in your life, to see this, to see the seeds that you've planted in your children and in your family and in your business and on your jobs and in your communities and your sororities and everything, if you're looking to see those harvest, then entering into Thanksgiving in a different mindset is going to help you.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Amen, father, we are so grateful for everything that you have given us, especially for this day of Thanksgiving.
- 18:16Speaker 1: This day is nothing but an honor to you and we thank you for those that you have placed in our lives so that we can show them.
- 18:24Speaker 1: We can show them, we can show them how to be thankful for you through the way that we speak, through the way that we walk this walk with you.
- 18:34Speaker 1: I honor you, lord.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I pray for everyone who's under the sound of my voice live or replay video or audio that they'll be blessed and that you'll meet their needs.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I thank you, lord, god that you're still a God and active power.
- 18:50Speaker 1: That means you're real and you are still working things out.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I pray for every single person who's lost, someone who will have an empty chair at their table this year.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I pray over those who grieve and those who mourn.
- 19:03Speaker 1: That you will give them the spirit of comfort.
- 19:05Speaker 1: But maybe, lord, today that as neighbors, we'll just go check on somebody, maybe we'll bring a plate, maybe we'll just model the way that you love.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Thank you, lord, god, for this platform.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I pray that it blesses somebody in Jesus' name.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Amen.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Y'all, that's it, that's all.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Have a wonderful, amazing Thanksgiving day.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Y'all.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Just use this day to bless your family, stay safe, enjoy the company.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Remember, remember, remember, remember, remember to thank God and you sitting at your table.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Amen, y'all.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Have a good rest of the week.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I will be back.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Monday morning prayer.
- 19:52Speaker 1: There's Tuesday night prayers.
- 19:53Speaker 1: There's Thursday prayers.
- 19:54Speaker 1: We've got sore.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Sign up for sore.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It's free.
- 19:57Speaker 1: It's virtual.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Let's get ourselves ready for the new year y'all.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Thank you so much for watching.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Have a wonderful rest of the week.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Bye isso.
