Latest / Wicked and Grim: A True Crime Podcast / Shannon Graves - Body Found in Freezer
Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The trope of being the friend who will help someone
- 0:10Speaker 1: hide a body has been in Hollywood movies, songs, and
- 0:14Speaker 1: of course the Internet memes for a long long time.
- 0:18Speaker 1: But I want you to ask yourself. I want you
- 0:20Speaker 1: to ask that question for real, could you help dispose
- 0:24Speaker 1: of a body? Or better yet, how would you feel
- 0:28Speaker 1: if you learned that you already have without even knowing it.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Today we talk about a case that involves all of that.
- 0:37Speaker 1: This is the story of Shannon Graves and how she
- 0:40Speaker 1: was murdered, dismembered, and stuffed into a freezer.
- 0:46Speaker 2: My name's Ben, I'm Nicole, and you're listening to Wicked
- 0:49Speaker 2: and Graham, a true crime podcast.
- 0:53Speaker 1: The following podcast.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Listeners, that was quite an intro. You think, so would
- 1:24Speaker 2: you hide a body? I don't know if I can
- 1:27Speaker 2: help someone hide a body. That's the I can't if.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I can honestly answer the question, because it's so tough.
- 1:33Speaker 1: We all like, oh, yeah, you're my best friend or
- 1:35Speaker 1: significant other needs to help hiding a body. I'd be there.
- 1:38Speaker 1: But it's also like, would you actually.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Well, because you also have to think of living with
- 1:44Speaker 2: that right after the fact, Yeah, it would eat you alive.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Probably, I think for a lot of people though, it
- 1:49Speaker 1: would be the potential of even getting caught, because now
- 1:53Speaker 1: it's like if this person didn't cover their tracks, but
- 1:55Speaker 1: you don't know if they have already, you're just being
- 1:58Speaker 1: called to the scene. Are you now going to be
- 2:01Speaker 1: held accountable for what happened as well?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah? Because like you if you say, if you didn't
- 2:06Speaker 2: kill them, I mean you would get charged for a
- 2:09Speaker 2: lot less, but you would still get charged.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Oh definitely, right.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's that's a tough one.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll look at the difference of being the one
- 2:18Speaker 1: to do the murdering versus being the one to just
- 2:21Speaker 1: help later on here in this episode. Okay, but first,
- 2:26Speaker 1: before we get into the actual show, I did have
- 2:29Speaker 1: an announcement I wanted to make to everybody. If you've
- 2:32Speaker 1: been a long time listener, you probably know you know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: we've got all our pets, right, We've got chickens, we've
- 2:36Speaker 1: got two dogs, We've got Honey and Ripley, and we
- 2:39Speaker 1: also have our cat, Kiwi. Kiwi was almost sixteen years
- 2:43Speaker 1: old and unfortunately he has passed away. He If you
- 2:47Speaker 1: go back to the very earlier episodes, we actually announced
- 2:50Speaker 1: Kiwi as our official mascot of the show too, So
- 2:54Speaker 1: he was a black cat. He lived his best life
- 2:56Speaker 1: with us in this tiny home.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I can tell you that much. He was king of
- 2:59Speaker 2: the castle, that's for sure.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He was. And we really miss him. And we put
- 3:03Speaker 1: a little post on Patreon, and the support from you
- 3:06Speaker 1: guys over there was a lot and meant a lot,
- 3:09Speaker 1: So thank you very much.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we were definitely missing I mean, he had a
- 3:12Speaker 2: dang good life, but gosh he did. There is a
- 3:15Speaker 2: void in this house now for sure.
- 3:18Speaker 1: But it's not to say he didn't live a good life.
- 3:20Speaker 1: It's not to late say he didn't have a good
- 3:22Speaker 1: life span. Our time all comes to an end, right,
- 3:26Speaker 1: and unfortunately it was his. We were with him at
- 3:29Speaker 1: the end though, so we're happy happy for that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, we won't have our best Halloween decoration anymore, hey, no,
- 3:36Speaker 2: come October.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, he was our best Halloween decoration. He was the
- 3:39Speaker 1: world's softest Kiwi. He was a lot of things, and
- 3:44Speaker 1: in recent last couple of years we started calling him
- 3:46Speaker 1: old Man Kiwi and the last few months that was
- 3:49Speaker 1: really becoming a relevant name for him. Yeah, unfortunately. Yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 1: but besides that, we just wanted to say thank you
- 3:58Speaker 1: guys for the support and you know, just go give
- 4:01Speaker 1: your go give your fur babies a little little pet
- 4:03Speaker 1: to pat in a snuggle, because you know, I.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Know, like, I mean, he lived, he was fifteen years old.
- 4:08Speaker 2: But I just feel like with pets, it's just never
- 4:10Speaker 2: long enough? Is it? Never long enough?
- 4:13Speaker 1: No, never is. But such as life, this is a
- 4:19Speaker 1: bit of a rough shift. But into that we're gonna
- 4:22Speaker 1: from that, We're gonna go into Patreon. Thank our Patreon subscribers.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I mean, you guys are the ones who I just
- 4:26Speaker 1: thanked for those incredible comments. So I guess maybe it's
- 4:29Speaker 1: not that bad of a shift.
- 4:30Speaker 2: No, it's not too bad.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So individuals who signed up this week to go support
- 4:34Speaker 1: us over there and would have been able to see
- 4:35Speaker 1: that KEYWI post is Laura Lacey, Norman Bryner, Kimberly, Tuscin Tack,
- 4:43Speaker 1: Mason Anderson, Haley Fisher, and Bobby thank you very much.
- 4:48Speaker 1: We appreciate it.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that's awesome, Thank you so much.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, they are getting a live episode coming up here too.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, ding Dan, which we got to prepare for.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Oh, how is it already like the end of August Wild.
- 5:00Speaker 1: It's absurd, but it's it's the situation we're in.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Apparently we had to turn our furnace on this morning.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah it wasn't like super cold, but it was like, oh,
- 5:09Speaker 1: there's a bite in there.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You know, you are really chilly. He couldn't sleep last
- 5:13Speaker 2: night and he was so chilly.
- 5:14Speaker 1: It's not that I was chilly, it's I wasn't cozy.
- 5:17Speaker 1: There's a difference. Okay, there's a big difference. Okay, Okay,
- 5:21Speaker 1: what did I say this morning? I am a fair,
- 5:23Speaker 1: fair weathered fellow.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Now I don't know what's cute.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Anyways, let's get onto this episode. So have you heard
- 5:31Speaker 1: of the story of Shanning Graves.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 5:34Speaker 1: No, well I didn't about day it's uh, well, yeah,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I kind of already touched on a little bit. There
- 5:40Speaker 1: is some some gruesomeness to this case, and there's I
- 5:44Speaker 1: will admit, this one's almost like a bit of a
- 5:45Speaker 1: soap opera. How it goes out or how it goes down. Okay,
- 5:49Speaker 1: so there is gonna be a little bit of like
- 5:51Speaker 1: this and that and that and this like kind of
- 5:53Speaker 1: back and forth is happening with how this this episode's
- 5:55Speaker 1: going to go. So you might want to make sure
- 5:57Speaker 1: you have that little extra paying attention going on some
- 6:00Speaker 1: of the situations because it can get a little bit
- 6:02Speaker 1: confusing at times. It's not that bad, don't get me wrong,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I just more so than typical. It's not quite so
- 6:09Speaker 1: linear at times. Okay, So to start off, we are
- 6:13Speaker 1: heading to a small town called Campbell, which is a
- 6:16Speaker 1: small city in I'm going to pronounce this wrong, but
- 6:18Speaker 1: I'm going to do my best. Mayoning County. Mayoning County,
- 6:23Speaker 1: which is located near the Norstern northeastern part of the
- 6:26Speaker 1: Ohio state in the USA. Now, originally it was founded
- 6:31Speaker 1: as East Youngst Town Youngstown in nineteen oh two. I'm
- 6:36Speaker 1: already off to butchering. Shit, I'm sorry, I'll get there.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It's morning time, Okay, East Youngstown in nineteen oh two,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but it was later named into you know, Campbell in
- 6:48Speaker 1: nineteen twenty two after James A. Campbell of the Youngstown
- 6:53Speaker 1: Sheet and Tube Company. Yeah. So the hit the city's
- 6:57Speaker 1: history is is very deeply tied to this steel industry,
- 7:01Speaker 1: which what I mean it was a very big industry
- 7:04Speaker 1: in the area. It thrived really pushed a lot of
- 7:06Speaker 1: like the economy, right, which is similar like we can
- 7:09Speaker 1: really sympathize for that because for us, it's forestry up here. Yeah,
- 7:13Speaker 1: it's logging, it's lumber, it's plywood, you know, it's it's pulp,
- 7:16Speaker 1: it's paper, it's a lot of that sort of stuff.
- 7:19Speaker 1: But however, for them, the once booming steel industry has
- 7:21Speaker 1: since slowed in its lucrative industry, resulting in plant closures
- 7:27Speaker 1: and people losing their jobs and of course a deteriorating economy,
- 7:31Speaker 1: which is also something we can relate to up here
- 7:33Speaker 1: because there's been many sawmill closures. Yeah and yeah, so
- 7:37Speaker 1: it's not easy. But this area was once known as
- 7:40Speaker 1: the quote steel belt because of this industry, basically describing that,
- 7:44Speaker 1: you know, geographical region that's thriving from this industry sort
- 7:48Speaker 1: of thing. But instead it's no longer known as that.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Instead it's now known as the rust belt. Oh, which
- 7:55Speaker 1: is pretty depressing.
- 7:56Speaker 2: That's real rough. Yeah, Oh, I don't like that. That's
- 7:59Speaker 2: kind of sad.
- 8:00Speaker 1: It is. So like many Rust Belt towns, Campbell faced
- 8:04Speaker 1: significant economic decline following the downturn of the steel industry,
- 8:08Speaker 1: leading to a decrease in population, economic challenges that persist
- 8:12Speaker 1: still to today. And despite these struggles, Campbell maintains a
- 8:16Speaker 1: strong sense of community, though, where a diverse population that
- 8:18Speaker 1: reflects the industrial past and ongoing efforts to revitalize the
- 8:22Speaker 1: local economy while preserving its cultural heritage. For these people
- 8:26Speaker 1: living there, despite what had happened to their town and
- 8:29Speaker 1: the downturn of the economy and the crime that has
- 8:31Speaker 1: since become much more prelevant, Campbell is simply home.
- 8:35Speaker 2: M Ah, what that's so nice.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Well, that's that's what it is.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I don't know that. Wow, you made us feel really
- 8:44Speaker 2: shitty about it, and then you made us feel really
- 8:46Speaker 2: nice about it.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Well, I mean, like that's what it was like. I
- 8:48Speaker 1: was watching some like some documentaries and episodes and stuff
- 8:51Speaker 1: on this and they interviewed some people, like some people
- 8:54Speaker 1: in Campbell, and that's that's what they said. Like, you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: despite like the hardships, it's it's home. It's home.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no place like home exactly.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And that's a situation with many of the residents in Campbell.
- 9:03Speaker 1: It's they're not going to leave. It is home for them.
- 9:07Speaker 1: So now they're home. Though, would soon experience a horrific
- 9:11Speaker 1: discovery from a local residence from their freezer, actually, and
- 9:16Speaker 1: this discovery would be one that would send chills down
- 9:19Speaker 1: everyone's spine pun intended.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Ooh good one, good one.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Okay, I got to applaud you for that, pretending you
- 9:30Speaker 1: didn't hear that, because when I was writing this case,
- 9:32Speaker 1: I was so proud of that.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Oh my god, you're going to just make me seem
- 9:36Speaker 2: like such an asshole.
- 9:37Speaker 1: No, you did good. But I read that pun to Nicole,
- 9:39Speaker 1: so she was anticipating it, and she she really hyped
- 9:41Speaker 1: me up on it. So thank you. Yeah, I appreciate that.
- 9:43Speaker 2: That was good. But I was literally about to have
- 9:46Speaker 2: a sip of chea and the freezer thing just called,
- 9:49Speaker 2: like I don't know, even though it was in your intro,
- 9:50Speaker 2: I was like, freezer, Oh my god.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Well, it's like you almost kind of forget about it.
- 9:54Speaker 1: We were just talking about Campbell and so it's like,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you know.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Now we're talking about her damn freezer.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and what's well, it would be on July twenty ninth,
- 10:02Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, when a call to nine one one was placed,
- 10:06Speaker 1: Dispatch picked up on the phone. There was a man
- 10:09Speaker 1: on the other end. Now, the man's name was Ken Essenbaugh,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and he informed the Dispatch that his wife, Jill Essenbaugh,
- 10:17Speaker 1: had just discovered a dead dismembered body in their basement,
- 10:21Speaker 1: freezer in their their freezer, in their freezer. So he's
- 10:26Speaker 1: calling nine to one. He's like, we just found a
- 10:28Speaker 1: fucking in our freezer.
- 10:31Speaker 2: That is that is something that oh my goodness, I
- 10:36Speaker 2: would probably just like faint.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I do, got to clarify. Yeah, it's not technically
- 10:43Speaker 1: their freezer in a freezer in their basement. Okay, we'll
- 10:48Speaker 1: get into that though.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Huh.
- 10:49Speaker 1: So Ken was trying to stay calm during this call.
- 10:52Speaker 1: You can hear panic in his voice as he tries
- 10:54Speaker 1: to control and slow his breathing and really make sure
- 10:58Speaker 1: he's he's being diligent in conversing with this dispatch person. Right,
- 11:02Speaker 1: So he tells them that the freezer is a friend's
- 11:05Speaker 1: freezer who moved into his place last week. Now, the
- 11:08Speaker 1: friend didn't move in, but the freezer moved in. Apparently
- 11:11Speaker 1: the freezer was moved in because the friend's electricity was
- 11:15Speaker 1: being turned off. So we asked if he could store
- 11:16Speaker 1: it there in the meantime. He didn't want things to
- 11:19Speaker 1: thought out the freezer, so he was like, yeah, sure,
- 11:20Speaker 1: we can move it over here, plug it into the basement.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Oh my word, Well, why are they rummaging through his freezer.
- 11:27Speaker 2: What are they looking for?
- 11:28Speaker 1: We'll get to that too, don't you worry. Okay, So
- 11:31Speaker 1: the dispatch asks questions and you know, keeps him on
- 11:34Speaker 1: the line, right, And she asked Ken if he could
- 11:37Speaker 1: tell if the body was out of a female or male,
- 11:40Speaker 1: and he responds that he thinks it's a female. Police were,
- 11:44Speaker 1: of course, on the way to the scene and arrived
- 11:46Speaker 1: very quickly, but even before they stepped foot inside the
- 11:49Speaker 1: home to investigate, they had a pretty good idea of
- 11:52Speaker 1: who this dismembered person in the freezer could be.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Okay, you know, I'm really like it's very sad, but
- 12:00Speaker 2: for some reason, it's just like almost comical that this
- 12:03Speaker 2: person's phoning nine to one trying to calm himself down
- 12:05Speaker 2: that he just found a fucking body and like a
- 12:08Speaker 2: freezer that's in his home. Like it's just it, like
- 12:11Speaker 2: you said, it's that alone right there. I feel like
- 12:13Speaker 2: it's a bit of a soap opera. But it's terrible.
- 12:15Speaker 2: It's terrible.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It is terrible, But like I said, it is very
- 12:18Speaker 1: much like a soaproper thing, Like how the fuck does
- 12:21Speaker 1: that happen? Yeah, that's what like everyone's asking this case,
- 12:24Speaker 1: the police are how the fuck does a dead body
- 12:27Speaker 1: end up in a freezer in your basement, because of
- 12:29Speaker 1: course there are sauspects number one, right, So well, you
- 12:33Speaker 1: just trust.
- 12:33Speaker 2: People and stuff like remember that one time we were
- 12:36Speaker 2: on a road trip and brought something back for someone
- 12:39Speaker 2: in the truck. Oh yeah, and you were just like
- 12:42Speaker 2: They're like, oh, you're gonna run, George, Yeah, can you
- 12:44Speaker 2: take this and deliver it to here? And we're like sure,
- 12:46Speaker 2: And we didn't freaking look in there, like god knows
- 12:49Speaker 2: what the hell we were transporting.
- 12:51Speaker 1: It was maple syrup.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Hopefully no, it was hopefully no, it was.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Because when I delivered the box he opened it up.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It was maple syrup. It was one of the most
- 12:59Speaker 1: Canadian things. We stopped at a roadside poutine shop, had
- 13:04Speaker 1: some proteine chatted them up and they're like, oh, you're
- 13:07Speaker 1: headed up to like this city, which is like a
- 13:09Speaker 1: five hour drive away, and like, could you take the
- 13:12Speaker 1: shipment for us because like the truck broke down or whatever.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So it wasn't a whole lot, you know, it was
- 13:16Speaker 1: like a couple armfuls of boxes and we're like yeah, sure,
- 13:19Speaker 1: So we got like a couple cans of maple syrup
- 13:22Speaker 1: for free.
- 13:23Speaker 2: We got our lunch for free or something like that.
- 13:25Speaker 2: This isn't about a skinny, this is ridiculous story.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And so we threw the maple syrup in the back
- 13:31Speaker 1: of the truck in the boxes. We didn't actually know
- 13:34Speaker 1: what it was. He just took their word for it,
- 13:35Speaker 1: threw it in the back of the truck, continued our
- 13:37Speaker 1: road trip, got to town, dropped it off of the address,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and they thanked us, and we went on our way.
- 13:42Speaker 2: So if you ever need us to transport anything, or
- 13:44Speaker 2: if you need any transport your guts fatally.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah. But anyways, we digressed. Let's get back to the
- 13:51Speaker 1: case here. So the police arrived at the home and
- 13:53Speaker 1: they descended into the basement and they were confronted with
- 13:56Speaker 1: exactly what was described in the nine one one call.
- 13:59Speaker 1: There was a freezer and when opened, it contained black
- 14:02Speaker 1: plastic bags and a five gallon bucket, so one of
- 14:06Speaker 1: those orange like home depot gallon buckets. Okay, Inside were
- 14:11Speaker 1: dismembered body parts. There were arms, legs, but no torso
- 14:17Speaker 1: and no head.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Oh.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Investigators began questioning the couple, Ken and Jill about the
- 14:24Speaker 1: freezer and the story that they had told authorities. Now,
- 14:28Speaker 1: the two were taken into the station and questioned both
- 14:31Speaker 1: separately because they wanted to make sure that they got like,
- 14:34Speaker 1: you know, see if there's any discrepancies in between what
- 14:36Speaker 1: they're saying or anything. But they both gave the exact
- 14:39Speaker 1: same stuff.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Oh good, because that kind of sucks for them really,
- 14:41Speaker 2: Like you'd almost have a thought like, shit, like do
- 14:43Speaker 2: we phone this in and kind of you know, because
- 14:45Speaker 2: you know that you're gonna get questioned, and oh, definitely right,
- 14:49Speaker 2: you have to.
- 14:50Speaker 1: For sure, I mean, you didn't do anything. Just just
- 14:52Speaker 1: tell the fucking story and I'm sure the police will
- 14:55Speaker 1: you know, find the right perp and yeah, follow the evidence, right.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 1: So the story that they gave was a friend had
- 15:02Speaker 1: moved the freezer into the basement a week prior as
- 15:05Speaker 1: his electricity was going out. The freezer had a padlock
- 15:08Speaker 1: on it, but they didn't really think anything of it.
- 15:10Speaker 1: You know, it's kind of odd, but whatever. Right, So,
- 15:13Speaker 1: on the day of the discovery of the remains, Jill
- 15:16Speaker 1: was home alone and now there was some reports that
- 15:19Speaker 1: they had a kid, so she was home alone with
- 15:20Speaker 1: the kid or she was home alone, but either way,
- 15:23Speaker 1: she was getting ready to make dinner, and she was
- 15:24Speaker 1: looking to make spaghetti, but after pulling out a bunch
- 15:27Speaker 1: of ingredients, she realized they didn't have any ground beef.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Instead of abandoning the plan, she thought maybe there was
- 15:33Speaker 1: some ground beef and the freezer from the friend downstairs.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So she thought she could you know, borrow a package
- 15:39Speaker 1: and then when they buy groceries next week she would
- 15:40Speaker 1: replace it. Yea, and what she's used sort of thing, right,
- 15:43Speaker 1: So she went downstairs into their home, you know, where
- 15:46Speaker 1: the freezer was being stored. She took a screwdriver undid
- 15:49Speaker 1: the screws on like the latch that was holding the
- 15:52Speaker 1: lock in place.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Oh, she really went to town looking for this ground beef.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Well, it's only like I saw a photo of the
- 15:57Speaker 1: actual freezer. It's only three screws. It's just like one, two, three,
- 16:01Speaker 1: and it's you can't really like actually padlock a freezer
- 16:05Speaker 1: very well, those screws just come out like nothing. Yeah. So,
- 16:09Speaker 1: once she had the screws undone in the lock off, though,
- 16:13Speaker 1: she opened the freezer and was immediately hit with an
- 16:15Speaker 1: odd odor and the sight of the black plastic bags
- 16:19Speaker 1: and the bright orange five gallon pale bucket she she
- 16:23Speaker 1: didn't know what to think, but her stomach immediately sank,
- 16:26Speaker 1: telling her something wasn't right. She didn't open the bags,
- 16:29Speaker 1: didn't open the bucket, but instead she closed the lid,
- 16:32Speaker 1: put the screws back in place, secured the freezer once again,
- 16:34Speaker 1: and went back upstairs. Now, when her husband got home, Ken,
- 16:38Speaker 1: it didn't take long for him to notice that his
- 16:40Speaker 1: wife was acting odd. I mean, if you've been with
- 16:43Speaker 1: someone a while, it's pretty easy to act or understand
- 16:45Speaker 1: when the behavior is a little bit off right. Yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 1: And he pretty much picked on that right away, and
- 16:49Speaker 1: he asked her what was going on, and she told
- 16:51Speaker 1: him exactly what happened, that she thinks there might be
- 16:54Speaker 1: a body in that freezer. So Ken went down to check.
- 17:00Speaker 1: He did exactly what she did, took the screws out,
- 17:02Speaker 1: opened it up, and sure enough, once he opened the
- 17:05Speaker 1: freezer and removed a bit of plastic, he saw human remains.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Wow. What shitty friend too though to also like put them,
- 17:14Speaker 2: you know, in that situation.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for sure, we'll we'll get into what kind
- 17:19Speaker 1: of shitty person that was?
- 17:21Speaker 2: Okay, Like, I mean, he probably really wouldn't have thought
- 17:24Speaker 2: they would have, like undid the screws to go in there, like,
- 17:27Speaker 2: that's that is a bit surprising to me, but still,
- 17:31Speaker 2: that's that's rude, yeah, like very rude.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yeah. So while the questions were occurring with these two,
- 17:38Speaker 1: both Ken and Jill, other officers were of course hard
- 17:40Speaker 1: at work beginning other areas of the investigation. They were
- 17:44Speaker 1: almost certain they knew who the remains belonged to, but
- 17:47Speaker 1: without a head, it was difficult to specifically identify the individual. Eventually, though,
- 17:52Speaker 1: through a tattoo identification and fingerprints, they were able to
- 17:57Speaker 1: identify the victim of that of Shannon Graves, which was
- 18:01Speaker 1: exactly who they were expecting. Okay, now, Shannon Elizabeth Graves
- 18:06Speaker 1: was a twenty eight year old woman from Youngstown, which
- 18:09Speaker 1: was the town just next door. It was about a
- 18:11Speaker 1: ten minute drive northwest of Campbell Now. She was known
- 18:15Speaker 1: for her vibrant personality, deep love for animals, and Shannon
- 18:18Speaker 1: was described by those close to her as full of life, outgoing,
- 18:21Speaker 1: and incredibly loyal. In fact, she even had a nickname
- 18:24Speaker 1: that her friends had given her Star because she lit
- 18:26Speaker 1: up a room when she walked in.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 18:29Speaker 1: That's serious?
- 18:30Speaker 2: She sounds wonderful, I know to have.
- 18:32Speaker 1: A nickname Star because you're like you just fucking light
- 18:35Speaker 1: up a room.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, dang, I love that.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So, as I already mentioned though too, she had a
- 18:40Speaker 1: deep love for animals. She actually absolutely adored her dog Brownie,
- 18:44Speaker 1: and rarely reportedly went anywhere with el Brownie, Brownie, Brownie.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Holy yeah, I'm in love with her And this is
- 18:52Speaker 2: so sad.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. So she was raised in a loving
- 18:55Speaker 1: family and she had shared a close bond with her sister,
- 18:58Speaker 1: Debbie de Paul. Now, Shannon was a bit of a
- 19:01Speaker 1: free spirit, so it wasn't abnormal for to not hear
- 19:04Speaker 1: from her for a while, to go off an adventure
- 19:06Speaker 1: or something like that, right, and for her to not
- 19:08Speaker 1: call for a few weeks that sort of thing. But
- 19:10Speaker 1: she would always be in touch, whether it was responding
- 19:12Speaker 1: to text messages or eventually getting in touch herself. But
- 19:16Speaker 1: in this case, a couple months had passed and no
- 19:18Speaker 1: one heard from her, and they began to get worried.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It was very uncharacteristic for her to actually lose contact
- 19:24Speaker 1: for an extended period, and they were all beginning to think,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know, what, is something happened. She's not responding to
- 19:30Speaker 1: texts or calls what's going on? Right, Well, a couple months,
- 19:34Speaker 1: that's quite a waw exactly. So, now the authorities had
- 19:37Speaker 1: a confirmation of finding Shannon's remains, they began to dive
- 19:41Speaker 1: into her background to see if they could possibly find
- 19:43Speaker 1: a suspect on who could be responsible for her murder. Now,
- 19:48Speaker 1: first up on the list was her ex boyfriend John. Now,
- 19:52Speaker 1: John seemed like a stand up guy at first, but
- 19:56Speaker 1: like he had a roofing company and stuff, like, you know,
- 19:58Speaker 1: he's a hard work and individual, right, But he also
- 20:00Speaker 1: had a history of drug dealing and the two both,
- 20:03Speaker 1: you know, John and Shannon ended their relationship when John
- 20:06Speaker 1: was arrested and went to prison. But the problem is
- 20:11Speaker 1: John had been released right before Shannon went missing.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Huh And is that who's freezer?
- 20:18Speaker 1: This is sorry, we haven't talked about who's free it
- 20:21Speaker 1: is yet?
- 20:21Speaker 2: Okay, I'm like, did I just miss something?
- 20:23Speaker 1: No, Well, we'll get there now. The the two individuals
- 20:27Speaker 1: at the very beginning, Ken and Jill, they tell police
- 20:30Speaker 1: whose freezer it is, but for suspense reason, I'm I'm
- 20:33Speaker 1: looping around because like I said, it's.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Very like I bet okay, Well, I'm I bet ye,
- 20:38Speaker 2: it's not John's freezer.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Then okay, but we get this whole like soap opera
- 20:43Speaker 1: effect because the reason why it's like this is authorities
- 20:48Speaker 1: new right away, but before they you know, had to
- 20:53Speaker 1: could act on anything, they had to follow all the evidence,
- 20:56Speaker 1: and that evidence follows them all the way back back
- 21:00Speaker 1: to the names that they were given at the fucking beginning.
- 21:02Speaker 1: So that's what we're doing. I'm omitting those names at
- 21:04Speaker 1: the beginning, you know, for story's sake, and then we're
- 21:07Speaker 1: following all this evidence and then we're going to pop
- 21:09Speaker 1: right back to that freezer. So don't you worry about.
- 21:11Speaker 2: It, Okay, I'm not worried, all right.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Well, police began to question John and he told police
- 21:18Speaker 1: at the last time he saw Shannon was around February fourteenth,
- 21:22Speaker 1: twenty seventeen.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Which was, you know, Valentine's Day.
- 21:26Speaker 1: It was Valentine's Day, and it was around the time
- 21:28Speaker 1: when she went missing. No one really knows exactly when
- 21:30Speaker 1: she went missing, because no one was too concerned with
- 21:32Speaker 1: reporting her after a few months, right, so that date
- 21:34Speaker 1: is a little bit foggy, but that's you know, it's
- 21:36Speaker 1: getting close to about that time. Now. He had also
- 21:40Speaker 1: told them that she had a new boyfriend by the
- 21:42Speaker 1: name of Arturo Novoa. Now, apparently, when he last saw Shannon,
- 21:47Speaker 1: she had told him that the two her and Arturo
- 21:50Speaker 1: were going through a bit of a breakup situation, but
- 21:52Speaker 1: she's going to give him another shot to make it
- 21:53Speaker 1: try and work with them. Now, John also gave the
- 21:56Speaker 1: police one more crucial piece of information. The man by
- 22:00Speaker 1: the name of Arturo had apparently attended a fire party.
- 22:04Speaker 1: A fire pit party everyone describes as a bonfire. But
- 22:08Speaker 1: I've seen the fire because like there's photos and stuff
- 22:11Speaker 1: of like you know, seeing stuff. It's just a standard fire.
- 22:14Speaker 1: It's not a fucking bonfire. So it's just a fire
- 22:16Speaker 1: pit party.
- 22:17Speaker 2: It's not your definition of a bonfire.
- 22:19Speaker 1: A bonfire should be like at least twelve feet tall,
- 22:22Speaker 1: twelve ft place, that's a bonfire. It's like a brush
- 22:25Speaker 1: pile that's a bonfire.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Anyways, So the man by the name of Arturo had
- 22:30Speaker 1: attended this fire pit party with a friend by the
- 22:34Speaker 1: name of Steve Barringer. Now, he told police how at
- 22:38Speaker 1: this party, a Turro and a few others were burning
- 22:42Speaker 1: items and articles of clothing pretty much most of the night. Shit.
- 22:49Speaker 1: So the authorities attention quickly turned to the current boyfriend
- 22:53Speaker 1: by the name of Arturro. Which is interesting because when
- 22:56Speaker 1: we discussed that freezer that Shannon was found in, it
- 22:59Speaker 1: was hoarded to have been stored in the house and everything. Right,
- 23:03Speaker 1: the friend's name was ur Turo. The man who owned
- 23:08Speaker 1: the freezer was ur Turo Novoa.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Oh man.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Okay, So investigators went to the man's house. Yeah, Steve Barringer,
- 23:18Speaker 1: who hosted the firepit party when ar Turo had attended
- 23:21Speaker 1: the party, right, Okay, So they went to Steve's house
- 23:24Speaker 1: to inquire about this fire and Arturo's actions at night,
- 23:27Speaker 1: And once there, they quickly identified the fire pit that
- 23:30Speaker 1: was freshly used. In that fire pit, after rummaging around
- 23:34Speaker 1: just a little bit, they found a bracelet. Now it's
- 23:37Speaker 1: one of those homemade style bracelets with like those white
- 23:40Speaker 1: block letters. Yeah, and what do you think those white
- 23:43Speaker 1: block letters and this bracelet spelled out Shannon Shannon. What
- 23:50Speaker 1: the so?
- 23:51Speaker 2: Okay? And I'm already confused about something. I just need
- 23:54Speaker 2: to clarify. So Steve is just Steve is just this
- 23:56Speaker 2: dude that hosted the party. Correct, Okay, he doesn't, He
- 24:00Speaker 2: isn't in a relationship with Shannon.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Nope. So John the ex boyfriend, yeah, reported that his
- 24:06Speaker 1: buddy Steve hosted this firepit party. He and the new
- 24:10Speaker 1: boyfriend Arturo was.
- 24:12Speaker 2: There throwing shit into the fire.
- 24:13Speaker 1: To be burned with some other people.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Okay, yes, heay got it.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So with questioning on Steve, Steve told the police that
- 24:20Speaker 1: Arturo had told everyone that night at the firepit party
- 24:23Speaker 1: that Shannon had left him for another man. So to
- 24:27Speaker 1: get even, he was burning her clothes. That's his story.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Okay, I mean, I mean we've heard shit like that before.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. He also told police the police that
- 24:38Speaker 1: Arturo's wasn't alone that night burning those clothes. He was
- 24:40Speaker 1: accompanied by a friend named Andrew Herman. Now, the connection
- 24:45Speaker 1: of Arturo's continued to grow around the mystery of Shannon Graves,
- 24:49Speaker 1: but police were hesitant to move in quickly. They wanted
- 24:52Speaker 1: to ensure that they looked at every bit of evidence
- 24:55Speaker 1: and took their time to build a case up against him.
- 24:58Speaker 1: They want to make sure they gathered everything so that
- 25:01Speaker 1: there was no chance that he could ache it away
- 25:04Speaker 1: or be that they got it wrong.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Meanwhile, he's like, I need to come and get
- 25:07Speaker 2: something from a freezer. Man, No, you gotta be careful
- 25:10Speaker 2: of that too.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yeah, now you have to think of the intro though.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Remember when I said that you could what if you
- 25:17Speaker 1: hit a body without even knowing it? Remember that? So
- 25:24Speaker 1: I'm just gonna throw that out there right now, just
- 25:26Speaker 1: to keep you guessing. But the police were wanting to
- 25:28Speaker 1: make sure that they did their do their due diligence
- 25:31Speaker 1: there we go, and needless to say, they did exactly that.
- 25:35Speaker 1: So before bringing our Turros in, the police even interviewed
- 25:38Speaker 1: the friend who helped him, sorry, the friends who helped
- 25:42Speaker 1: move the freezer into the basement. Okay, so they told
- 25:44Speaker 1: officers the exact story that they heard the very beginning.
- 25:48Speaker 1: It was being moved into the house of Kennon Jilled
- 25:50Speaker 1: Essenbah due to electricity at Arturo's home being turned off,
- 25:54Speaker 1: and then he didn't want anything to thaw and or spoil.
- 25:57Speaker 1: He even offered our Turros even offered Kennon Jill one
- 26:02Speaker 1: hundred dollars a week to store it there a week
- 26:06Speaker 1: a week, and they're like, we can't accept that. Are
- 26:08Speaker 1: you kidding through us? Like twenty bucks a month for electricity?
- 26:12Speaker 2: Huh? That's interesting because I see, I'm I was feeling
- 26:17Speaker 2: like electricity was getting turned off because they can afford
- 26:20Speaker 2: their bills or something mm hmm, and then to be
- 26:23Speaker 2: able to just like one hundred bucks a week, that
- 26:25Speaker 2: doesn't make any sense exactly.
- 26:29Speaker 1: So while moving the freezer, though all these friends that
- 26:31Speaker 1: were involved, no one thought anything suspicious. The lock was
- 26:34Speaker 1: a bit odd. They all kind of thought that, but
- 26:35Speaker 1: no one really questioned it, and it didn't seem too
- 26:37Speaker 1: heavy for them to move either. To consider that there was,
- 26:40Speaker 1: you know, something out of the ordinary contained inside, well yeah.
- 26:43Speaker 2: I'm like that would be heavy as hell.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Yeah. So all these friends who stored the freezer and
- 26:50Speaker 1: moved the freezer were all extremely shocked to discover the
- 26:53Speaker 1: contents and what they had helped move. And they're like,
- 26:56Speaker 1: we had no idea what was contained in our Turro's freezer.
- 27:00Speaker 1: That's just like mind blowing.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Now.
- 27:02Speaker 1: The next step was to also interview Andrew Herman, who
- 27:05Speaker 1: is present to help burn Sharon's belongings at that fire
- 27:08Speaker 1: pit party, but in order to do so, they needed
- 27:10Speaker 1: to prepare themselves as well, again doing their due diligence.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Is it Sharon or Shannon?
- 27:16Speaker 1: Shannon? Did I say Sharon? I feel like a couple
- 27:18Speaker 1: times it is Shannon. Okay, okay, my apologies. So they
- 27:24Speaker 1: learned that this Andrew herman who was the individual who
- 27:27Speaker 1: helped clothing.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:29Speaker 1: They learned he was married to a woman by the
- 27:30Speaker 1: name of Michelle Einfeld. But the two of them had
- 27:34Speaker 1: a bit of a third wheel, someone who has involved,
- 27:36Speaker 1: you know, sexually with both of them, right, and her
- 27:38Speaker 1: name was Jamie. So when police talk to Jamie, if
- 27:42Speaker 1: you know they knew anything regarding our Turos and Andrew
- 27:45Speaker 1: regarding Sharon Shannon, I am saying, Sharon, apparently it's Shannon.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Yeah. She quickly confessed that, yes, she knew they killed
- 27:55Speaker 1: her in her bedroom or bathroom.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Sorry, what the shit?
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yeah, She's like, oh yeah, they killed her.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I know about that.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:04Speaker 2: That's wild that you would just know about that and
- 28:08Speaker 2: be questioned in this figure.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Yep, I know. So, as the story went, Andrew the
- 28:12Speaker 1: friend was involved in dismembering and disposing of Shannon's body,
- 28:16Speaker 1: but ar Turos and his new girlfriend, Katrina Layton were
- 28:20Speaker 1: the ones who killed her. But why Well, Katrina hated Shannon.
- 28:25Speaker 1: There was still something between Arturos and her, which is
- 28:28Speaker 1: why Katrina wanted her dead. She wanted ar Turros all
- 28:32Speaker 1: to herself. This was the last straw. Authorities immediately went
- 28:36Speaker 1: to Arturos and brought him in. And when they brought
- 28:40Speaker 1: him into the police station, they even found something in
- 28:43Speaker 1: its possession, a key, and what do you think that
- 28:46Speaker 1: key unlocked the freezer. The freezer.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Okay, this is wild. So they killed there. The one
- 28:53Speaker 2: lady was saying they killed her, but then the other
- 28:56Speaker 2: couple dismembered her.
- 29:00Speaker 1: No, she's saying Arturos and Katrina the couple, yeah, killed her.
- 29:06Speaker 1: But then Arturos's friend, Andrew, yeah, helped dismember Okay, okay, yeah, yeah, okay,
- 29:15Speaker 1: So both Katrina and Andrew were of course arrested as well.
- 29:19Speaker 1: But Arturos of course played dumb, denying having any involvement,
- 29:23Speaker 1: you know, not even knowing that Shannon was in the fraser,
- 29:25Speaker 1: didn't like she hasn't seen her for a while, didn't
- 29:27Speaker 1: even know she was dead. Whatever. But the evidence was
- 29:30Speaker 1: just far too overwhelming at this point. Yeah, So when
- 29:33Speaker 1: it came to Andrew being questioned, the pressure of the
- 29:35Speaker 1: potential charges he would face was just too much, and
- 29:38Speaker 1: he spilled what happened. He told the authorities exactly what
- 29:42Speaker 1: they already knew, he said. Arturos got a hold of
- 29:45Speaker 1: him to come over to Katrina's house, and when he
- 29:47Speaker 1: got there, he was shown Shannon's body. He was told
- 29:52Speaker 1: she was killed in her own apartment and then transported
- 29:55Speaker 1: to Katrina's. It was new information of the officers though,
- 29:59Speaker 1: when he told them how she was killed, Arturos used
- 30:03Speaker 1: a hammer and struck her in the head right above
- 30:06Speaker 1: her right eye, killing her. Now that he was standing
- 30:11Speaker 1: over her lifeless body between Arturos, himself and Arturos's girlfriend, Katrina,
- 30:17Speaker 1: the three of them began to dismember her body under
- 30:20Speaker 1: Arturo's instruction, using a machete.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Wow.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Now, Andrew did state that he felt the need to participate,
- 30:29Speaker 1: as if like he might be next if he didn't,
- 30:32Speaker 1: which understandable, but that also feels like a cop out
- 30:35Speaker 1: answer that everyone fucking says. I get it, Yeah, you
- 30:38Speaker 1: know if I fucking try and run away. Right now,
- 30:39Speaker 1: he's got a machete in his hand, he's hacking a body. Yes,
- 30:42Speaker 1: I get it.
- 30:43Speaker 2: It could be alarmed a bit. Yeah, there's the potential there,
- 30:46Speaker 2: but there is.
- 30:47Speaker 1: But then he's also helping burn fucking clothes. Afterwards, he
- 30:49Speaker 1: didn't say anything like you know, I.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:52Speaker 1: So anyways, after the job was done and she was dismembered,
- 30:55Speaker 1: the problem now was what to do with her remains.
- 30:57Speaker 1: It was Katrina's idea to dispose of her by disolving
- 31:00Speaker 1: her remains in sulfuric acid, So they poured a few
- 31:03Speaker 1: bottles that they had purchased onto Katrina's torso and head
- 31:07Speaker 1: in a tub and you know, all the solution was
- 31:11Speaker 1: getting poured onto her, but unfortunately, the amount of acid
- 31:14Speaker 1: that they had was not enough to dissolve her remains entirely,
- 31:17Speaker 1: which led them to storing the remainder of her remains
- 31:22Speaker 1: in a freezer for the meantime until they figure out
- 31:25Speaker 1: what to do next.
- 31:28Speaker 2: And hey, this is such a fucking story and a half.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I told you it's a bit of a soap opera.
- 31:33Speaker 1: So then that's when, of course Jill would open up
- 31:36Speaker 1: the freezer trying to make spaghetti and would discover her
- 31:38Speaker 1: in the nine when one call was placed.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I wonder if Jill ever made spaghetti again after this,
- 31:43Speaker 2: Oh wow, because I'm pretty sure that I would just
- 31:46Speaker 2: be turned off spaghetti forever. Yeah, I mean, I can understand,
- 31:52Speaker 2: like vegan spaghetti.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Just vegan spaghetti or maybe chicken or something. I don't brutal, yeah,
- 31:58Speaker 1: so uh yeah, So the court proceedings for this case,
- 32:03Speaker 1: of of course, Arturo Novoa and his accomplices began in September.
- 32:08Speaker 1: On September twenty first. In twenty seventeen, now Arturos was
- 32:12Speaker 1: charged with multiple offenses, including murder, abusive a corpse, and
- 32:16Speaker 1: tampering with evidence avoiding Now he avoided a trial and
- 32:20Speaker 1: took a plea deal, though he pleaded guilty in May
- 32:23Speaker 1: twenty nineteen to avoid the lengthy trial. But he did
- 32:27Speaker 1: not actually plead guilty. Like, he did not ever say
- 32:30Speaker 1: like I was the one to kill her. He's like, yeah,
- 32:32Speaker 1: I was involved. In fact, none of them were the
- 32:34Speaker 1: ones who actually said yeah I killed her.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Oh okay, No, no one's taken ownership.
- 32:38Speaker 1: No one took any blame or ownership of that. But yeah,
- 32:41Speaker 1: Arturros took a plea deal and everyone else did as well.
- 32:45Speaker 1: So Arturos pled guilty to murder, abusive a corpse, tampering
- 32:49Speaker 1: with evidence, obstruction of justice, engaging in pattern of corrupt activity,
- 32:53Speaker 1: drug trafficking, and theft. He was sentenced to forty eight
- 32:57Speaker 1: years to life in prison. Oh wow, oh, okay, His girlfriend,
- 33:01Speaker 1: Katrina Layton, pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence, obstruction of justice,
- 33:05Speaker 1: and abuse of a corpse. So I guess technically speaking,
- 33:09Speaker 1: Arturo's pled guilty to murder, but he still like, yeah,
- 33:14Speaker 1: I didn't murder her, but so she would. Katrina would
- 33:18Speaker 1: be sentenced to eighteen years in prison after her plea
- 33:20Speaker 1: deal was revoked when it was discovered she continued to
- 33:23Speaker 1: have contact with Arturros while incarcerated when that was strictly forbidden.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Okay, that's like actually quite a lot of time, it is, well.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Her plea deal was revoked, right, so then she actually
- 33:36Speaker 1: went through trial. So Andrew Herman, who was the friend
- 33:39Speaker 1: who helped dismember, pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse,
- 33:42Speaker 1: tampering with evidence, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
- 33:45Speaker 1: He was sentenced to twelve years in prison. Now, Andrew's girlfriend,
- 33:50Speaker 1: who is the one who said, oh yeah, I know
- 33:53Speaker 1: they fucking killed her, right, yeah, she pled guilty to
- 33:57Speaker 1: tampering with evidence and engaging in pattern of correct activity.
- 34:01Speaker 1: She received two She received a sentence of two years
- 34:04Speaker 1: in prison, followed by six months in the halfway house
- 34:07Speaker 1: and five years of community control for her role in
- 34:10Speaker 1: hiding the evidence.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Huh.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And that is the story of Shannon Graves A bit
- 34:17Speaker 1: of a shorter one today, but it's definitely an interesting one.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Yeah, is just like spinning.
- 34:23Speaker 1: I warned you at the beginning. It's very soaproperty esque.
- 34:26Speaker 2: And also I'm like, nope, oh man, no, that's I
- 34:30Speaker 2: was just going to say something very rude. Okay. Friend
- 34:33Speaker 2: friends are great, friends are awesome, But I'm also like,
- 34:35Speaker 2: is any friend having to spend twelve years in prison,
- 34:40Speaker 2: like twelve years of your life?
- 34:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 34:43Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure they are. I'm sure they are,
- 34:45Speaker 2: but that's that I don't know. I would struggle with that.
- 34:50Speaker 2: That's a long time. That is life is real shortened
- 34:54Speaker 2: to just have twelve years of yours taken away, you know.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Yeah, because your friend was, hey, help me to body,
- 35:00Speaker 1: help me, not spend time in jail. It's a very
- 35:03Speaker 1: selfish thing, in all honesty, putting someone else in that position.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Yeah, because technically those two could have dealt with it
- 35:10Speaker 2: on their own without having to get the friend involved.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Definitely, they dismembered her easily enough. Yeah, So like, put
- 35:18Speaker 1: it this way, if you were the person to help
- 35:21Speaker 1: hide a body. Of course, there's that pride fact I'm
- 35:24Speaker 1: a good fucking friend for helping my friend in a
- 35:27Speaker 1: needy situation, right, mm hmm. But that also means your
- 35:30Speaker 1: friend that you're helping is a piece of shit for
- 35:32Speaker 1: putting you in that fucking situation, you know what I mean? Yes,
- 35:35Speaker 1: what kind of friend would ask you to do that
- 35:38Speaker 1: to risk your own neck?
- 35:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, because I'm kind of thinking if it
- 35:44Speaker 2: was like just like one of my friends and say
- 35:46Speaker 2: they were just like a solo, single female, right, they
- 35:51Speaker 2: would have a lot of trouble kind of probably doing
- 35:54Speaker 2: that on their own, right, Yeah, so they may need
- 35:57Speaker 2: help more so, but that still doesn't justify there's still
- 36:00Speaker 2: a piece of shit.
- 36:02Speaker 1: If you're going to be a piece of shit enough
- 36:04Speaker 1: to murder someone, you should fucking plan out enough to
- 36:08Speaker 1: how to cover it up.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Well. And poor Shan she didn't freaking deserve this, just
- 36:13Speaker 2: someone was jealous, Like, oh my word, that is just yeah.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Now, she did have a reported behavior of kind of
- 36:20Speaker 1: going for the bad boy type a little bit. I
- 36:23Speaker 1: was watching one show that covered this, and one of
- 36:26Speaker 1: her friends was talking about that, like John who was
- 36:29Speaker 1: like a bit of a drug dealer who went to prison.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Now she moved on to Arturos, who was kind of
- 36:33Speaker 1: also like a little bit like that, so she kind
- 36:35Speaker 1: of like that was her type a bit. But yeah,
- 36:38Speaker 1: she definitely did not deserve it. Just because she's kind
- 36:40Speaker 1: of going for the bad boy type does not mean
- 36:42Speaker 1: she deserved to be fucking hacked up.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Yeah, well murdered and hacked up. Yeah, that's like two
- 36:49Speaker 2: terrible things, like murdered and then also doing that to
- 36:52Speaker 2: like the body that remains.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Yeah, the desecration of someone's remains like that. So I
- 36:58Speaker 1: am happy that she was found, but yeah, did not
- 37:03Speaker 1: deserve it.
- 37:03Speaker 2: And it's all really because of spaghetti like that, because
- 37:07Speaker 2: if she wasn't out of around beef, they probably never
- 37:09Speaker 2: would have looked in there.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Probably not you know. Now, I do want to say
- 37:13Speaker 1: there is I did not talk about this within the
- 37:16Speaker 1: case because it's a technically speaking, completely irrelevant and b
- 37:21Speaker 1: it would have just muddied the waters more a little
- 37:23Speaker 1: bit harder to follow. But during the search for that,
- 37:26Speaker 1: for like what actually happened and interviewing and all this
- 37:30Speaker 1: sort of stuff, there was another individual I don't have
- 37:33Speaker 1: their name written down, but there was another individual who
- 37:36Speaker 1: was missing, and she looked a lot like Shannon, Like
- 37:39Speaker 1: the two were like damn near spitting images of each other. Okay,
- 37:42Speaker 1: so there was the suspect of is there a fucking
- 37:45Speaker 1: serial killer on the loose, like targeting a specific type,
- 37:50Speaker 1: and that woman's remains were actually found in a backyard
- 37:53Speaker 1: when a human skull was reported. So authorities went investigated
- 37:58Speaker 1: and they actually found that that individual had nothing to
- 38:01Speaker 1: do with this. Okay, it was just kind of like
- 38:04Speaker 1: a red herring sort of thing. But this individual had
- 38:07Speaker 1: apparently was quite heavy into drugs and everything and odeed
- 38:11Speaker 1: and someone just kind of like didn't know what to
- 38:12Speaker 1: do and just in the backyard.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Wow. So okay, well two things here. First of all,
- 38:19Speaker 2: so they just don't know where Shannon's head is, say, dissolved.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Oh so they did actually get some parts of her dissolve.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Yeah, but they didn't have enough to do all of
- 38:27Speaker 1: them all brutal.
- 38:29Speaker 2: And then also, if anyone ever asked me to like
- 38:32Speaker 2: hold on to their freezer and it has a padlock,
- 38:34Speaker 2: I will be opening that bitch up like it's just happening,
- 38:38Speaker 2: Like I'm sorry, but you can't trust me with that,
- 38:40Speaker 2: I'll open it or show Step one.
- 38:43Speaker 1: If you ask us to haul anything, it better be
- 38:46Speaker 1: maple syrup. Step two. If it's a freezer, we're looking.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Inside, I know it would I would eat me alive
- 38:52Speaker 2: like I would. I would be opening that. There's no
- 38:55Speaker 2: way that I could.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Just not I know, even even if it's the fact
- 38:58Speaker 1: that I have no suspicion of there being a body inside.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I just want to know what you guys eat, Like
- 39:04Speaker 1: do you do you guys have a lot of like
- 39:06Speaker 1: shrimp in there, like you know, is there vegetables or
- 39:09Speaker 1: is it just like all like hash browns and like
- 39:11Speaker 1: cheap hamburger patties. Where are you getting your meat from?
- 39:14Speaker 1: I'm curious.
- 39:15Speaker 2: It would be the middle of the night and you
- 39:16Speaker 2: would be wanting a.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Snack and yeah in there, what kind of steak cuts
- 39:19Speaker 1: do you buy? Do you go cheap or are you
- 39:21Speaker 1: getting good? Do you have t bones in there? What
- 39:23Speaker 1: are we talking?
- 39:24Speaker 2: You know? Like? Okay, so I would be opening it
- 39:27Speaker 2: just because of sheer curiosity, and Ben would be opening
- 39:30Speaker 2: it because you want some food.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Well, I want to judge you on what kind of
- 39:33Speaker 1: food you eat. You know, are you spending that good
- 39:36Speaker 1: money on the good food? Like what you're doing. I'm curious.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Do you open people's like cabinets in their homes and
- 39:44Speaker 2: stuff and look like in the bathroom.
- 39:47Speaker 1: I'm not going to say I always do, but I
- 39:49Speaker 1: will say I have. Okay, it's a in the heat
- 39:56Speaker 1: of the moment. If I feel the whim upon me,
- 39:58Speaker 1: then I will. I don't like dig I'll just like
- 40:01Speaker 1: take a peek in. You know, I don't move anything.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I just opened the cupboard, like, oh, what's in there?
- 40:06Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Okay, what we better?
- 40:08Speaker 1: We can't tell me you've never done that. Oh yeah,
- 40:12Speaker 1: we've all done that. You go to someone's house at
- 40:14Speaker 1: like a house party or something, or some friends are
- 40:16Speaker 1: just getting to know or whatever it is, and then
- 40:18Speaker 1: you go to the bathroom and they got a medicine
- 40:20Speaker 1: cabinet mirror. You tell me you don't just peek inside.
- 40:24Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like I've got I was
- 40:26Speaker 2: a kid one time. I got myself in trouble though,
- 40:28Speaker 2: because I was at like an aunt and uncle's and
- 40:33Speaker 2: they had the she had like electric toothbrush, and I
- 40:36Speaker 2: like had wanted one, so I like, no, I like,
- 40:41Speaker 2: I like just turned it on to like just see
- 40:43Speaker 2: how it worked. But it had like the cover on
- 40:44Speaker 2: there and made this like horrific noise the whole house
- 40:48Speaker 2: like herd. So I feel like I'm pretty I'm pretty
- 40:51Speaker 2: cautious now because it's just you can get caught and it's.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Like awkward, Like I say, I don't touch shit. I'll
- 40:57Speaker 1: give it an open and I'm not going to go
- 40:58Speaker 1: in like someone's bedroom and open and they're like nightstand
- 41:01Speaker 1: drawer like no, like there's there's privacy, you know what
- 41:04Speaker 1: I mean. But it's it's it's a bathroom cabinet. You know,
- 41:09Speaker 1: everyone goes in the bathroom. You're not going to hide
- 41:10Speaker 1: any suspicious.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Stuff in there, right well, and this is the last thing.
- 41:14Speaker 2: We'll finish this up here. But we also have a
- 41:16Speaker 2: scale that like announces the weight. So I remember when
- 41:19Speaker 2: we've had this in like our spare bathroom at our
- 41:21Speaker 2: old house. I will always warn proop of because like
- 41:24Speaker 2: I think people at SIMS will stand on scales too
- 41:26Speaker 2: if we're there, and I like, just so you know,
- 41:28Speaker 2: like that scale will announce your weight to like the.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Whole house yep, yep. The nice thing is though, if
- 41:35Speaker 1: you step off right before it actually confirms your number,
- 41:38Speaker 1: it won't say anything, but you'll know your number because you.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Got to be like you have to be on it though.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Yeah. For example, if you if you're like two hundred
- 41:46Speaker 1: even and it's like you're on it and it's like
- 41:49Speaker 1: two oh one, uh or sorry, like two hundred point one,
- 41:52Speaker 1: two hundred point two while it's deciding like that point
- 41:54Speaker 1: one step off, just take your two hundred you know
- 41:57Speaker 1: what I mean, and it will not announce it. But
- 41:59Speaker 1: if it gets to too one hundred point one, it'll
- 42:02Speaker 1: be like two hundred point one pounds and everyone knows.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Would you like my impression?
- 42:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:12Speaker 1: It was thought on, wasn't it?
- 42:14Speaker 2: It was okay?
- 42:16Speaker 1: Anyways, this was this was an interesting episode. I've got
