- 0:00Speaker 1: A Tuesday evening and afternoon. That's about to be Tuesday evening.
- 0:05Speaker 1: So we're glad to have you with us, Craig Way
- 0:07Speaker 1: alongside the producer Cameron Parker. We have not broached the
- 0:12Speaker 1: subject yet. We need to do it right now. Opening
- 0:16Speaker 1: night in the NBA esh opening night in the NBA
- 0:22Speaker 1: Nick Celtics just ended Tea Wolves Lakers opening Night tonight.
- 0:29Speaker 2: You are the resident NBA honk in this building. I mean,
- 0:32Speaker 2: I like it.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Obviously, I'm a huge Dallas Mavericks fan. But and I
- 0:37Speaker 1: do have the NBA League Pass at home. I've had
- 0:39Speaker 1: that the first time. I've had it for twenty six
- 0:43Speaker 1: I've had it longer than I've had NFL Sunday ticket
- 0:45Speaker 1: because the NFL Sunday ticket went the YouTube bridles we
- 0:48Speaker 1: know last year, so that was my exit.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Out of that.
- 0:51Speaker 1: But I've had the NBA League Pass package since nineteen
- 0:55Speaker 1: ninety eight. I had the NHL Center Ice package a
- 0:58Speaker 1: couple of years ago. I thought, I'm watching maybe three
- 1:01Speaker 1: games a year.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Out of that. My schedule is only allow me to.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Make it catch three or four games or otherwise I'll
- 1:08Speaker 1: come home late at night after calling the game. Folks
- 1:10Speaker 1: have asked me, what do you do when you get
- 1:14Speaker 1: off the air and you've called a basketball game? Say
- 1:18Speaker 1: it home, a Texas men's or women's game, and let's
- 1:22Speaker 1: just say, for example, a men's game that started like
- 1:26Speaker 1: at eight o'clock for television, a big Monday game or
- 1:29Speaker 1: some other game.
- 1:30Speaker 2: You know, what do you do? Do you go? You fall
- 1:32Speaker 2: straight into bed?
- 1:32Speaker 1: Well, a lot of times I can't do it because
- 1:34Speaker 1: you're still kind of revved up from calling the game,
- 1:37Speaker 1: the the adrenaline and all of that. So I'll get home.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So I'm home. It's after eleven, eleven fifteen or whatever.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Most everybody's you know whatever, Linda's headed off to bed.
- 1:48Speaker 1: The dog might sit up with me. Might if she's
- 1:51Speaker 1: feeling otherwise. She'll go in there, you know, to go
- 1:54Speaker 1: to bed when Linda does, and I'll just kind of
- 1:58Speaker 1: kind of sink into a chair and I'll turn on.
- 2:01Speaker 1: There'll be a late night NBA game on. You know,
- 2:04Speaker 1: it's like, okay, here it is eleven forty seven. I
- 2:08Speaker 1: should be in bed. Both the Kings and the Timberwolves,
- 2:14Speaker 1: or midway through the third quarter or.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Something like that. It'll be something. And it was like
- 2:18Speaker 2: that way for a while. For hockey.
- 2:21Speaker 1: The other Kings Los Angeles came where it might be
- 2:23Speaker 1: maple Leafs at Canucks or something. I finally said, this
- 2:26Speaker 1: is ridiculous. Go to bed, Go to bed. So I
- 2:32Speaker 1: got rid of the hockey package. I do have the
- 2:35Speaker 1: baseball package, so I can watch the Dodgers, obviously, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: I probably watched close to one hundred when I watched
- 2:40Speaker 1: close to one hundred Dodger games a year during the season.
- 2:43Speaker 1: That's why I'm such a big fan and all that
- 2:45Speaker 1: is part of that built out into that. But it
- 2:49Speaker 1: is Opening Night in the NBA, So you're the resident
- 2:53Speaker 1: NBA honk, So are you? Are you fired up for it?
- 2:57Speaker 1: I mean, is it both on TNT header Nick Celtics,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and then you got t Wolves and like Nick Celtics,
- 3:05Speaker 1: what that rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals, believe so yeah?
- 3:10Speaker 1: And then you got t Wolves Lakers and they're fascination
- 3:14Speaker 1: with the Lakers despite the fact that the Lakers probably.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Are not going to be good this year. Right, So
- 3:18Speaker 2: it was Celtics Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Live
- 3:21Speaker 2: Celtics Pacers. That's right?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Okay, all right, So but you got Nick Celtics tonight.
- 3:30Speaker 1: What's it called T D Garden. What's it called, yeah,
- 3:33Speaker 1: yeah Garden. Yeah. And then and then t Wolves, Lakers,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and the Lakers are despite adding Bronnie James. Be that
- 3:42Speaker 1: as it may, they're not expected to be very good,
- 3:45Speaker 1: are they?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Well, depending on if you're on Twitter and you follow
- 3:48Speaker 2: the lebron James stand accounts, this is the greatest team
- 3:50Speaker 2: of all time and Bronnie James is going to be
- 3:54Speaker 2: I don't know, two thousand and ten, Dwayne Wade apparently
- 3:58Speaker 2: that's not the case. Correct of the year. This is, yeah,
- 4:01Speaker 2: I will And then it sounds like a large amount
- 4:04Speaker 2: of betters are betting on Bronnie James to win Rookie
- 4:08Speaker 2: of the Year in the NBA. Really, which is how
- 4:11Speaker 2: Las Vegas stays Las Vegas because you have idiots like
- 4:14Speaker 2: that or who are betting on Bronnie James to win
- 4:19Speaker 2: the If you put him in the G League for
- 4:21Speaker 2: every game, he would not even win come close to
- 4:23Speaker 2: being the G League MVP. No, no disrespect to Bronnie James.
- 4:27Speaker 2: That's just he's just not an NBA caliber player yet,
- 4:29Speaker 2: even though he's on an NBA team. But you know,
- 4:31Speaker 2: there's a different discussion for that. So Lakers. I think
- 4:36Speaker 2: there'll be another playing team, Craig. You know, we'll see
- 4:39Speaker 2: what JJ Reddick does. A lot of hope with him
- 4:41Speaker 2: and his offensive prowess. But the good chance we're in
- 4:44Speaker 2: December and we've already we're already reading articles about his
- 4:47Speaker 2: JJ Reddick on the hot seat, who could fill in
- 4:50Speaker 2: for you know, stuff like that. So we'll see with
- 4:52Speaker 2: the Timberwolves, you know, and the two teams who play
- 4:56Speaker 2: the night not playing each other. But you have the
- 4:58Speaker 2: next Celtics and then the t Wolves. Lakers remembered the
- 5:02Speaker 2: t Wolves in the Knicks a month ago made a
- 5:04Speaker 2: huge trade sending Julius Randall to New York, or excuse me,
- 5:10Speaker 2: Julius Randall and Dante Chi Vincenzo to Minnesota. Minnesota sends
- 5:15Speaker 2: Karl Anthony Towns to New York. So we'll see how
- 5:18Speaker 2: both these teams look. I think the t Wolves are
- 5:21Speaker 2: going to be a great team to start. I think
- 5:23Speaker 2: Anthony Edwards will be on a mission. I like him
- 5:25Speaker 2: a lot for MVP this year, alongside SGA and Luka
- 5:29Speaker 2: Doncics perhaps, so I think it'll be fun to watch tonight.
- 5:32Speaker 2: We already know what the Celtics are. I think they
- 5:34Speaker 2: are by far the team to beat, not just the
- 5:37Speaker 2: Eastern Conference, but in the league, you know, coming off
- 5:40Speaker 2: as defending champions, and honestly, with the whole Team USA thing,
- 5:46Speaker 2: with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown being left off the team,
- 5:49Speaker 2: that's the worst thing that could happen to the league, Craig,
- 5:52Speaker 2: because you have Jaylen Brown, who already won finals MVP,
- 5:55Speaker 2: had his best season, yet gets left off the team.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And I understand why he did not fit with that
- 6:01Speaker 2: team whatsoever. It was not a Jaalen Brown thing. It
- 6:03Speaker 2: was just a chemistry thing already with Katie and Lebron
- 6:06Speaker 2: and Steph and so many guys who were on ball
- 6:09Speaker 2: that pissed off Jayleen Brown. And you know, Rightfley, so
- 6:12Speaker 2: for Jalen Brown, so he's gonna come in this season,
- 6:16Speaker 2: you know, ready to prove everybody wrong. And then Jason
- 6:18Speaker 2: Tatum did not play well at all at Team USA
- 6:22Speaker 2: in the summer, and you know, maybe he was just
- 6:23Speaker 2: tired and just celebrating the ring, and I don't think
- 6:25Speaker 2: he's fitting well with that team as well. So those
- 6:27Speaker 2: two guys, I think they have something more to prove
- 6:30Speaker 2: now this season. The team comes back. Christops will be back,
- 6:34Speaker 2: probably in December, but you know, they were able to
- 6:35Speaker 2: really make that playoff run without him. So I think
- 6:39Speaker 2: the Boston Celtics is going to be the best team
- 6:40Speaker 2: in the record the season this year. I think they're
- 6:42Speaker 2: gonna come out firing, but it will be fun to
- 6:44Speaker 2: see how the next the new look Knicks look and
- 6:47Speaker 2: how the new look Timberwolves look Tonight.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Which of these games that is just two games tonight
- 6:52Speaker 1: tomorrow is the main thrust and a few more on Thursday.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Which of these games Tomorrow night most intrigues you for
- 6:58Speaker 1: a season opener, an eighty two game schedule.
- 7:02Speaker 2: See just a quick look at the schedule.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I was going to guess who we're gonna say, Bucks, Sixers.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Well, I maybe, but we're Georges and Joel Embiid are
- 7:12Speaker 2: not playing Opening night at home? You're at home. I'm
- 7:17Speaker 2: guessing it's probably going to be on ESPN. Oh, it
- 7:20Speaker 2: is it is. And guess what. Two of the three
- 7:22Speaker 2: biggest players in the game aren't playing. This is why
- 7:25Speaker 2: nobody pays attention to the NBA and the regular season, Craig,
- 7:29Speaker 2: Two of the three superstars aren't playing. But you know,
- 7:33Speaker 2: understand you want to keep your guys healthy, but that's
- 7:35Speaker 2: still a problem needs to be fixed. I think the
- 7:37Speaker 2: game I think I'm most interested in.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Horn's Rockets is Chicago New Orleans.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I want to see how Lonzo Ball looks. You know,
- 7:46Speaker 2: for us NERD NBA fans, you know, we've kind of
- 7:49Speaker 2: gotten obsessed with Lonzo Ball, and you know he's had
- 7:52Speaker 2: a lot of knee surgeries and you know, he's worked
- 7:54Speaker 2: his way back to be able to play this season,
- 7:56Speaker 2: so we hope he's okay. In for New Orleans, the
- 8:00Speaker 2: team that features Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 2: a year ago playoff team and they're going to go
- 8:07Speaker 2: in this season with a lot of you know, rumors circulating.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Is Ingram on the trade block? What's going to happen
- 8:12Speaker 2: with Zion? They could be a team that may end
- 8:15Speaker 2: up being sellers at the trade deadline. We could see
- 8:18Speaker 2: Ingram on the Lakers or the Warriors or whoever. So
- 8:22Speaker 2: want to see how they look. I think that that's
- 8:24Speaker 2: the game that I'm most interested in. Phoenix Clippers should
- 8:28Speaker 2: be interesting as well. You know, Katie and the Sun's back.
- 8:30Speaker 2: The Clippers with is Kawai no ready for the opener. No, no,
- 8:34Speaker 2: I don't think Hawhi has played an opener since twenty eighteen. Yeah,
- 8:37Speaker 2: twenty nineteen, so goodly back. It's gonna be a long season.
- 8:41Speaker 2: But again, the NBA does not start until it's all start.
- 8:45Speaker 1: See, I can tell you tomorrow night, Tomorrow night, after
- 8:49Speaker 1: after long wor and weekly we coach start tomorrow when
- 8:51Speaker 1: we do the show take, we're going to go home and.
- 8:54Speaker 2: You know, Lyndon and I'll have dinner and then they
- 8:56Speaker 2: watch something or that.
- 8:56Speaker 1: But as the evening grows later that Phoenix Clippers has
- 9:00Speaker 1: some interest for me, and then even I might peek
- 9:02Speaker 1: in on Warriors and Trailblazers only because it can having
- 9:08Speaker 1: the the NBA package, it's a later night thing. For
- 9:11Speaker 1: those who are wondering about the Spurs and the Mavericks. Uh,
- 9:14Speaker 1: they each open their seasons on Thursday against each other.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Nice they play in Dallas and that's a TNT game
- 9:21Speaker 1: on Thursday. You know, there's a lot of hubbub in
- 9:23Speaker 1: the Metroplex because of the Mavericks new TV package.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And what a.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Lot of folks in the Dallas for or therea are
- 9:31Speaker 1: hoping is that the Rangers and the Stars take good
- 9:35Speaker 1: notice of this. Now all three have exited from what
- 9:41Speaker 1: was Ballet Sports Southwest. By the way, it's not Ballet
- 9:43Speaker 1: Sports anymore. It's now run by fan Duel. Well, it's
- 9:47Speaker 1: run by Diamond Sports, which is owned ultimately by Sinclair Broadcasting,
- 9:52Speaker 1: but the name on it won't be bally going for
- 9:56Speaker 1: In fact, it already changed automatically on my app.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I noticed has already changed to Fan Duel on the
- 10:02Speaker 2: app ready. Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Now, I don't think we're calling it that on the
- 10:06Speaker 1: High School Show for obvious reasons, but anyway, it's it's
- 10:12Speaker 1: it's that they're hoping that that I think fans are
- 10:17Speaker 1: hoping that those other pro sports franchise take note of
- 10:20Speaker 1: what the Mavericks said. You hear what the Mavericks did
- 10:23Speaker 1: every single one of their games that aren't on network TV,
- 10:29Speaker 1: and they're going to play quite a bit on that
- 10:30Speaker 1: work TV. But the times they don't out of eighty
- 10:33Speaker 1: two games probably seventy i'd say, if not more, or
- 10:37Speaker 1: on free over the air television in Dallas for worth,
- 10:40Speaker 1: that's awesome. They're either most of them are on a
- 10:43Speaker 1: station that would be like saying KBVO down here or
- 10:48Speaker 1: the CW down here. It's on channel twenty nine, which
- 10:51Speaker 1: is owned by w FAA. It's KFAAA KFAA.
- 10:57Speaker 2: And then that big cell tower you're driving in. Yep.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They most of the games the over the year, games
- 11:04Speaker 1: that are not on network TV will be on that signal.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And then they've got like fifteen games that are on
- 11:09Speaker 1: just the ABC affiliate Channel eight. There's like fifteen games
- 11:13Speaker 1: on that, and then the other like fifty five or
- 11:18Speaker 1: however many maybe it's fifty or whatever, or on the channel.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Every single game that isn't on picked up by like
- 11:25Speaker 1: TNT like Thursday Nights Opener or some of the others,
- 11:28Speaker 1: every single one is on free over the air television.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Oh it should be creczy. Yeah, yeah, twenty four. I'm
- 11:34Speaker 2: with you. I'm with you as a and as a
- 11:36Speaker 2: NBA League Pass guy.
- 11:38Speaker 1: That's how I'll get to see the Mavericks, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: obviously since they're a out of town team, because this
- 11:41Speaker 1: is a Spurs market after all, and I like the
- 11:44Speaker 1: Spurs as well and obviously keep up with them also.
- 11:47Speaker 1: All right, we've got football notes to get to and
- 11:49Speaker 1: more conversation with long warm players when we continue on
- 11:52Speaker 1: Sports Radio AM thirteen Under the Zone.
