- 1:04Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:04Speaker 3: First I want to know where did a new.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Maino that came from. So what happened was, you know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: me and Angela always been tight for years. You know,
- 1:13Speaker 1: she called me her be her best rapper friend. So
- 1:15Speaker 1: what happened was I ran into her. She said, Yo, listen,
- 1:19Speaker 1: ray J is doing it like this little get together
- 1:21Speaker 1: for me for my new show come by.
- 1:24Speaker 4: I said, bet, I'm gonna pull up. I get there.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's lit, everybody's having fun and we're chilling. So I
- 1:31Speaker 1: had just it was around Valentine's Day and I had
- 1:33Speaker 1: just dropped the song me and Fat Right and my artist,
- 1:37Speaker 1: the Stop Baby, so it was like a girl's song.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So I was like, you know, I wanted to play it.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I wanted there was a lot of girls there, so
- 1:44Speaker 1: Angela and I was like, all right, but let me
- 1:46Speaker 1: let me get it, let me put it on my phone.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And you know, we was drinking, taking shots, so we
- 1:50Speaker 1: was a little saucy and somebody just said new mano.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So every time we went to play it, they was
- 1:56Speaker 1: going new MANO, new MANO. So that night she was like, Yo,
- 2:01Speaker 1: want you come up to the show and guest host
- 2:02Speaker 1: for the week.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I said, bet, I'm gonna come. I'm gonna pull up.
- 2:05Speaker 4: So I pulled up and I walked in. They was like,
- 2:07Speaker 4: new man. Oh, so it just stuck. It just stuck.
- 2:09Speaker 4: It just stuck.
- 2:10Speaker 3: It's just when when she was talking about guest hosts
- 2:12Speaker 3: and it lip service, right.
- 2:13Speaker 1: No, it was the Way Up Show. The way this
- 2:16Speaker 1: is all about the way. This is all over year ago.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So this is everything to do with the Way Up Show?
- 2:21Speaker 3: Is that new?
- 2:22Speaker 4: Is that new? Wow? Is that new? And you never
- 2:24Speaker 4: and then you never left cause you've been never left.
- 2:27Speaker 1: But right, yeah, So what happened was I came for
- 2:29Speaker 1: that week thinking that like, this is my girl.
- 2:34Speaker 4: It wasn't left like no pressure, right.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I never done radio before other than being an artist
- 2:39Speaker 1: and promoting what I had gone on. So when I
- 2:41Speaker 1: get up there, it's like, all right, it's cool. They
- 2:44Speaker 1: was like, you're kind of good at him? You would
- 2:45Speaker 1: you would you come back? I said, I pull up.
- 2:47Speaker 1: It ain't nothing you my dog, it ain't nothing. You know, Jasmine,
- 2:50Speaker 1: here we vibing it. We have It's all good. And
- 2:54Speaker 1: I started to come back and I started to come back,
- 2:56Speaker 1: and then the new MANO and then the fans was saying,
- 2:58Speaker 1: like we liked when Mayno is on it because I
- 3:00Speaker 1: wasn't coming every day. But the fans were saying, we
- 3:03Speaker 1: like when he up there, and they had the segment
- 3:05Speaker 1: where it was like, it's supposed to be no judgment,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm judging.
- 3:08Speaker 4: So it was like you became a thing.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Calling it.
- 3:13Speaker 6: But we're gonna We're gonna here is rewind a little
- 3:15Speaker 6: bit before we get all the way to twenty twenty four.
- 3:18Speaker 3: So let's take it all the way back to Brooklyn.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Man is your name really, Mano? My name is your Maine.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Got so?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Mano's a nickname, got it? You know they call me Maine.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You know Maine, Maine Mano. In the neighborhood that I
- 3:32Speaker 1: come from, right, I'm from bed Star, So that's where
- 3:35Speaker 1: the BIGGI from. That's Biggie from. All the greats come
- 3:37Speaker 1: from there. You gotta understand all all of the greats,
- 3:41Speaker 1: Biggie jay Z, Big Daddy Kane, Fabulous Lo Kim like
- 3:44Speaker 1: you name it. I'm from there. We're all from different
- 3:47Speaker 1: sections in best style though. So the neighborhood, I'm fronded.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Whatever your name was. If your name was Steve, they
- 3:53Speaker 1: call you Steve O. Right. If your name is Wayne,
- 3:56Speaker 1: they call you Wayno, you know, my nickname is Maine.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Andy call me mano. So I mean, you know, ghetto boy,
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean, child of ghetto. I caught
- 4:07Speaker 1: up in the street very early. You know, my story
- 4:12Speaker 1: is pretty well well known. I went to prison when
- 4:14Speaker 1: I was around sixteen seventeen. When you know, the ten
- 4:17Speaker 1: years in prison, I never wrapped the day of my life.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Never thought about music. I never I never had any
- 4:25Speaker 1: aspirations or dreams to do music. Music was never something
- 4:28Speaker 1: that I ever even fathom. But when I was in
- 4:32Speaker 1: prison and I was going through what I was going through,
- 4:34Speaker 1: getting trouble in there, you know. You know, one night
- 4:37Speaker 1: I was just like yo, I was in a box
- 4:39Speaker 1: twenty three hours locked in. I'm like yo, I'm right
- 4:42Speaker 1: mere rhyme. You know, I liked I felt, you know.
- 4:46Speaker 4: And at the.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Time I was like, man, you know, it was like
- 4:48Speaker 1: Biggie was out and Wu Tang was out, and you know,
- 4:51Speaker 1: this is this is the nineties. So I was like, man,
- 4:54Speaker 1: what if I go home and come a rapper? And
- 4:56Speaker 1: I started to play with that thought, like man, what
- 4:58Speaker 1: if what if I did that? Now you got to
- 5:00Speaker 1: understand it this time, nobody had ever done that before
- 5:03Speaker 1: before me. It was never nobody to ever done a
- 5:06Speaker 1: large amount of jail time and come home and become
- 5:08Speaker 1: an artist, and become home and have any bit of
- 5:11Speaker 1: of platinum success or anything. I had nobody to look
- 5:13Speaker 1: at and say, well, such and such did that, right.
- 5:16Speaker 1: That had never happened before. So it was like a
- 5:18Speaker 1: long shot to even think that you can even come
- 5:21Speaker 1: home after after doing eight, nine, ten years and become
- 5:24Speaker 1: an artist.
- 5:25Speaker 4: So it was, it was, it was. It was a thing.
- 5:28Speaker 4: So it was a miracle actually.
- 5:30Speaker 6: And it was at a boredom like you you just say,
- 5:33Speaker 6: let me just start rhyming. Was did you have like
- 5:35Speaker 6: a did you test it out in jail, like I
- 5:38Speaker 6: mean in prison? Did you test it out with your
- 5:40Speaker 6: peers in there? I guess or so? Did they tell
- 5:43Speaker 6: you it was hot? Like the thing?
- 5:46Speaker 4: Is this?
- 5:46Speaker 1: Right?
- 5:49Speaker 4: It was? I was in the box a lot, like
- 5:52Speaker 4: I was spending a lot.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Of time in the solitary, solitary confinement, twenty three hour
- 5:58Speaker 1: locked in, you know, spending in years that way. And
- 6:02Speaker 1: when I started rapping, it was under those conditions. I
- 6:04Speaker 1: started rapping in the box, so you understand. So I'm
- 6:09Speaker 1: in my cell, I don't got nothing else to do
- 6:11Speaker 1: but maybe read sleep radio. They give you these headphones
- 6:16Speaker 1: you plug into the wall and you could hear you know,
- 6:18Speaker 1: the rock and roll or the alternative music and stuff
- 6:21Speaker 1: like that. So this is they didn't have a lot
- 6:23Speaker 1: of hip hop stations back then.
- 6:25Speaker 4: You only heard like hits.
- 6:26Speaker 1: So whatever was like the super popular record on the
- 6:29Speaker 1: on the hot one hundred or you know, just like
- 6:31Speaker 1: a hot, hot hip hop song, then you heard it, right,
- 6:35Speaker 1: So you heard Snoop and Dread, you heard Biggie because
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know, there was they was up there in the sky.
- 6:41Speaker 4: So I was I was under those conditions. I didn't.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I didn't. I didn't.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I didn't know like nothing about the industry. I didn't
- 6:50Speaker 1: know nothing about being a rapper. I just knew that
- 6:52Speaker 1: it felt good doing it, like I would just it
- 6:55Speaker 1: would help me.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Pass the time away.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Right, So I'm like, man, if I if I get
- 6:59Speaker 1: up this morning after I eat breakfast and I started
- 7:01Speaker 1: writing me in rhyme, and it had passed a couple
- 7:03Speaker 1: of hours and next thing you know, it'd be dark
- 7:05Speaker 1: and the days started to go faster like that. So
- 7:08Speaker 1: that's kind of like how I was. I was in
- 7:11Speaker 1: that mode of like just doing something new that I
- 7:14Speaker 1: had never done before, and it felt good doing it,
- 7:17Speaker 1: and so I would I didn't have a lot of
- 7:21Speaker 1: confidence in doing it though, so I would like they
- 7:24Speaker 1: would have like porters that helped give out the food
- 7:27Speaker 1: and stuff like that. And you know, one of the
- 7:30Speaker 1: guys is a homie Minds and I was like, Yo, what.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Do you think this sounded like? And he was like,
- 7:34Speaker 4: this sound all right?
- 7:35Speaker 1: It was like some stressed out Yo, I'm sitting in
- 7:37Speaker 1: the cell looking like like some tupac and painful.
- 7:40Speaker 4: You're like, you know what I mean? So it was
- 7:42Speaker 4: like that.
- 7:42Speaker 1: So yeah, so I was gonna say, so when you
- 7:44Speaker 1: came home, what was the plan? Did you come home
- 7:46Speaker 1: and say I'm getting in the studio. So from the
- 7:51Speaker 1: time that I started rapping, I still had more time
- 7:54Speaker 1: to do right. And you know, so all I had
- 7:57Speaker 1: was a five to fifteen. I could have been home
- 7:59Speaker 1: in five but like I said, I was getting into
- 8:01Speaker 1: as would you. I had a drug related kidnapping, right,
- 8:04Speaker 1: so I had I had a charge that you know,
- 8:08Speaker 1: I could have got twenty five of life for right.
- 8:12Speaker 4: But I was young.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I copped out to a five to fifteen, and I
- 8:17Speaker 1: was if I had been like a smooth young cat,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I could have probably been home in five years, right,
- 8:24Speaker 1: But I was in the shit, you know, getting caught up, right,
- 8:30Speaker 1: So I did ten.
- 8:30Speaker 4: You did the full ten. Ten. That's that's that's what
- 8:33Speaker 4: they called you.
- 8:34Speaker 1: That's what they called like your se all, like your
- 8:36Speaker 1: conditional release, like they have to let you go unless
- 8:39Speaker 1: you just lose all your good time. So I had
- 8:41Speaker 1: some good time left, which was for five years, and
- 8:44Speaker 1: they let me go in ten. So what was important
- 8:46Speaker 1: about that is that like I was telling you, like
- 8:48Speaker 1: I ain't really had no confidence. I was looking at
- 8:51Speaker 1: myself like I ain't no rapper.
- 8:53Speaker 6: I ain't no rapper, and like being in that solitary
- 8:56Speaker 6: confinement you didn't have anybody to bounce your ideas off.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Not really, it ain't.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So I got out of the box and then I
- 9:01Speaker 1: started to kind of like pull certain dudes that I
- 9:04Speaker 1: was comfortable with, and I would let them know, say
- 9:06Speaker 1: I had a complex because I looked at I was.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Like, man, gangs, I ain't no rapper.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And at this point, at this at this point in
- 9:12Speaker 1: the culture, it wasn't that it wasn't that fashionable to
- 9:15Speaker 1: be an artist, to be a rapper, meaning because the
- 9:18Speaker 1: way we was looking at it, like rap ass nigga,
- 9:20Speaker 1: like like you understand, like you're sitting on the yard rapping,
- 9:24Speaker 1: being somebody entertainment like I had. It was like kind
- 9:27Speaker 1: of like a negative connotation. So I was struggling with that.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I was struggling with the idea of me being a
- 9:34Speaker 1: rapping how people looked at me, because what I thought
- 9:37Speaker 1: of myself at that time was like, I'm on, my
- 9:40Speaker 1: g I'm on, I'm stepping, I'm stepping in a certain
- 9:43Speaker 1: kind of way, and I don't want nobody to be
- 9:44Speaker 1: playing with me or look at me and make it
- 9:46Speaker 1: mixed me up, right, So I was like struggling with that.
- 9:52Speaker 1: So what happened was I never told nobody from the
- 9:57Speaker 1: outside world that I was rapping, like of the people
- 10:00Speaker 1: that looked out for me, my friends, my brothers, the
- 10:02Speaker 1: people that really was there for me, the women that
- 10:05Speaker 1: was coming up, I never I held that secret for
- 10:07Speaker 1: years because the reason why I held those that secret
- 10:10Speaker 1: for years is because it was, like I said, it
- 10:14Speaker 1: was so far fetched to believe that at this point
- 10:17Speaker 1: somebody could come home after doing seven, eight, nine, ten
- 10:20Speaker 1: years and become an artist.
- 10:21Speaker 4: That had never happened.
- 10:23Speaker 1: You had artists that did small bids, you know, two
- 10:26Speaker 1: three years and all that.
- 10:27Speaker 4: And and and popped off.
- 10:29Speaker 1: But were talking about a gang of time that had
- 10:31Speaker 1: that was never nowadays you see that. So I never
- 10:36Speaker 1: told none of my people because if I would have
- 10:38Speaker 1: called home and somebody would have said to me, your man,
- 10:40Speaker 1: what you're gonna do when you come home?
- 10:41Speaker 4: When I say, y, I'm a rap, and they would
- 10:43Speaker 4: have said to me, they would have been like, man,
- 10:46Speaker 4: the fuck out, you ain't a rapper.
- 10:47Speaker 1: I would have said you right, I'm not a rapper?
- 10:50Speaker 1: What am I doing it? And I would have been
- 10:53Speaker 1: out of that dream. I would have been out of
- 10:54Speaker 1: that bag right then and there I would.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Have been from that.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yeah, we're kind of glad that you did that, because, yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I heard I saw a t I quote that he
- 11:02Speaker 1: was like, sometimes you can't share, you can you can't,
- 11:05Speaker 1: you can't Sometimes you got to keep it to them.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Puts their fears on you, right and right. And because
- 11:10Speaker 1: this was just so unheard of, it's not like now
- 11:13Speaker 1: when you know this rapping and came out you heard
- 11:17Speaker 1: the twelve years, it's almost like it enhances. Yeah, now right,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you hear about that. Now this is totally unheard of.
- 11:23Speaker 1: This is this is what I'm saying, I can't even
- 11:26Speaker 1: believe sometimes that that even happened to me, because I
- 11:29Speaker 1: was it was so many guys that was that was
- 11:32Speaker 1: like rapping, and I was just you know, I'm a
- 11:34Speaker 1: fan of the coach. I could quote anything, right, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: I was come, stop buying y'all and listen to dudes.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And I was like, yeah, he could be someone to
- 11:40Speaker 1: go out that Never that never worked for nobody else.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Why would it work for me when I wasn't even
- 11:47Speaker 1: the one that was doing it like that. So the
- 11:49Speaker 1: thing was, so I never told nobody, and so I
- 11:51Speaker 1: got to a place where I was super confident in it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: And so I got to a place where I started
- 11:56Speaker 1: saying like, yo, you know what, I'm gonna go home
- 11:58Speaker 1: and do it. And I had made a tape, right
- 12:01Speaker 1: because back then, you know, my brothers, my people, they
- 12:04Speaker 1: used to be around Biggie, they used to be around Camp.
- 12:05Speaker 1: So I was like, man, I'm gonna go home and
- 12:06Speaker 1: be around Biggie. I'm gonna go home and get and
- 12:09Speaker 1: get with them, and I'm gonna blow up, right, So
- 12:10Speaker 1: we all I had those dreams. So I made a tape,
- 12:14Speaker 1: snuck it out to jail, got it to my people
- 12:18Speaker 1: and sent them a long letter and it was received well,
- 12:21Speaker 1: like it was like okay, all right. It wasn't that
- 12:25Speaker 1: they didn't give me the the feedback, the negative feedback
- 12:29Speaker 1: that I thought I was gonna get. So at that point,
- 12:35Speaker 1: you know, my people was just like, yo, look, whatever
- 12:37Speaker 1: you want to do, We're gonna support it. Whatever you
- 12:40Speaker 1: want to do, you know what I mean. My God
- 12:41Speaker 1: was like that was a great feeling. So he was like, Yo,
- 12:44Speaker 1: you know, you want me to get you some books?
- 12:46Speaker 1: You got time?
- 12:47Speaker 4: You know.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He sent me Donald Passman, you know, Kashif book all
- 12:52Speaker 1: you need to know about the music business. So I
- 12:54Speaker 1: started to read and then I was like, yo, we
- 12:57Speaker 1: need to start our own company.
- 12:58Speaker 4: And I started.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I came up to the name of Hustle Hall Entertainment
- 13:02Speaker 1: while I still was in prison. So Hustle Halls you
- 13:05Speaker 1: see main o Hustle hard that I birthed that in prison.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Where did that come from?
- 13:10Speaker 5: That name?
- 13:10Speaker 1: It just felt like that's who we should be, Like
- 13:13Speaker 1: like we hustlers, Like we're gonna figure figure it out.
- 13:15Speaker 4: We're gonna this is what we do all day every day.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Were trying to figure out ideas of how to come
- 13:19Speaker 1: up and how to make it, how to get money right.
- 13:22Speaker 4: We hustling, we hustling hard. We're gonna go get it.
- 13:25Speaker 1: The early ovation, yeah, early main ovation definitely. Okay, So
- 13:29Speaker 1: you get out, what happens then I get out? I
- 13:35Speaker 1: get that right, So what I get So, so the
- 13:37Speaker 1: thing was I got out originally two thousand and one,
- 13:39Speaker 1: but I caught a violation, and for I was home
- 13:43Speaker 1: only for five months and I caught a violation and wound.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Up doing a year. He had to go back to
- 13:49Speaker 4: go back.
- 13:49Speaker 1: But when I came out, my people was like we
- 13:51Speaker 1: had already understood, you know, my brother Daiko, my brother Mouse,
- 13:55Speaker 1: we had already understood what we what what I was
- 13:58Speaker 1: gonna come home and do, and they was they was
- 14:01Speaker 1: ready to receive that and helped me to do whatever
- 14:04Speaker 1: I needed to do. So, you know, I made it.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I made my first tape, you know, it made my
- 14:09Speaker 1: first CD. It was Household Entertainment Presentment, know you know,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and it was like my first step into me. I
- 14:16Speaker 1: had never been in the studio before. This is my
- 14:18Speaker 1: everything was brand new. Everything, every feeling, every every experience
- 14:22Speaker 1: was brand new. I went I went to prison at
- 14:25Speaker 1: an early age. So some of the things that I
- 14:28Speaker 1: was behind socially, you know, dating and going out and
- 14:32Speaker 1: doing certain things like I'm twenty seven, twenty eight, but
- 14:34Speaker 1: I'm behind. But at the same time, I got this
- 14:36Speaker 1: dream of being an artist, so you know, I'm stepping
- 14:40Speaker 1: I gets locked back up.
- 14:42Speaker 4: My do my do?
- 14:43Speaker 6: My?
- 14:43Speaker 4: Uh my, my violation and I was depressed. Is this
- 14:49Speaker 4: discouraging at this point?
- 14:50Speaker 1: What they locked me up for going to see my
- 14:52Speaker 1: co defendant, for going to visit him on the prison,
- 14:55Speaker 1: like like going to visit him for being quote unquote
- 14:58Speaker 1: a real guy, right, a real nigga. I'm going to
- 15:00Speaker 1: see my guy. They locked me up, give me a
- 15:05Speaker 1: year of violation. And I said, man, this music thing
- 15:09Speaker 1: never gonna work for me. My girl pregnant at the time.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Oh man, I'm gonna miss the birth of my seed.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I ain't even know what I was having at the time.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I gotta do another year. This ain't never gonna work
- 15:24Speaker 1: for me. I'm never gonna make it.
- 15:26Speaker 3: How'd you pull yourself out of that.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Time?
- 15:31Speaker 1: Because when I was feeling like that, you know, when
- 15:34Speaker 1: you going through something right, it feel like it's gonna
- 15:36Speaker 1: last forever. I'm sitting there just trying to fathom the
- 15:41Speaker 1: idea that I gotta do a whole nother year. And
- 15:45Speaker 1: I'm saying everything that I thought I wanted to be,
- 15:48Speaker 1: all of the thoughts. I want to get out the street, man,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I want to do something different. I've been here all
- 15:52Speaker 1: my life. I don't know nothing else. Streets, in jail, jail,
- 15:57Speaker 1: back to the street, back to jail. And I was
- 16:02Speaker 1: depressed for a long time. I wasn't up there trying
- 16:04Speaker 1: to write no rhymes.
- 16:05Speaker 4: I was just depressed.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And one day I started to feel like, this is
- 16:13Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna go home. So time I start to
- 16:18Speaker 1: heal certain things for you. So I was just like, man,
- 16:22Speaker 1: six months then went by. I got six months left.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I maybe still could pull this off. Am I gonna
- 16:32Speaker 1: sit here and wallow in my shame? Am I gonna
- 16:35Speaker 1: sit here and still just be caught up in my feelings? Oh,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna stand up, pull my pass up, and figure
- 16:44Speaker 1: it out.
- 16:46Speaker 4: So my son was born while I still was there.
- 16:50Speaker 1: That made me happy, but then it also made me
- 16:52Speaker 1: feel like, then what I'm gonna go do. You're gonna
- 16:54Speaker 1: go full streets, You're gonna go full steam ahead in
- 16:56Speaker 1: the street, or you're gonna still try to salvage this dream.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Man.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I came home three months after my son was born,
- 17:06Speaker 1: but by that time I had already dug into my
- 17:09Speaker 1: reserves and started to feel better about myself and started
- 17:12Speaker 1: to say, look, you know what I'm coming, I'm gonna
- 17:14Speaker 1: do it. And I got back to it as soon
- 17:17Speaker 1: as I got home. I got back to it. I
- 17:18Speaker 1: met K Slay, I met DJs rip R, I pter
- 17:23Speaker 1: k Slay, you know DJ Clue. You know mvds were
- 17:27Speaker 1: dudes very early on who was like very integral because
- 17:31Speaker 1: it was the mixtape error, you know, and I got
- 17:33Speaker 1: right into that, into that that circuit right there.
- 17:36Speaker 4: So it started to happen.
- 17:38Speaker 6: And then you got to deal with motown And what
- 17:41Speaker 6: was that like when you got your first deal?
- 17:43Speaker 3: I know it didn't work out, but what was that
- 17:44Speaker 3: first deal like?
- 17:45Speaker 4: That was tremendous for me?
- 17:47Speaker 1: So I so Kim was somebody that I had known from,
- 17:51Speaker 1: you know, from the neighborhood from early on. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 17:55Speaker 1: So I had got around her and that just opened
- 17:58Speaker 1: up my mind.
- 17:59Speaker 4: To the power possibilities that this really could happen.
- 18:02Speaker 1: So I'm you know, this is a superstar, right, So
- 18:04Speaker 1: I'm coming around, and you know, I'm meeting people, and
- 18:07Speaker 1: I'm meeting Swiss and I'm meeting this one right, and
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm moving around, you know, and I'm in the studio,
- 18:13Speaker 1: I'm hands on, right. And at the same time, I'm
- 18:17Speaker 1: doing my own thing too. I'm on a mixtapes, I'm
- 18:19Speaker 1: on Clue, I'm on k Slay, I'm freestyling on the
- 18:22Speaker 1: radio down there. So it's like I'm doing my thing.
- 18:28Speaker 1: And then I made a song. I made one song
- 18:33Speaker 1: that changed my life. I made a song called Rumors, right,
- 18:38Speaker 1: So the song Rumors changed my life. See people that
- 18:41Speaker 1: they talk about how I hated and all that, but this, nah,
- 18:44Speaker 1: this is the song that changed my life. This is
- 18:46Speaker 1: the song that got me my first major record deal
- 18:50Speaker 1: after coming home from prison.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Eighteen months.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So from the time that I was in prison sitting
- 18:58Speaker 1: up their stress to the time I got my first
- 19:01Speaker 1: major record deal was less than two years. What you
- 19:07Speaker 1: wanna tell me, man, you could do anything? What I
- 19:10Speaker 1: wasn't no rapper?
- 19:11Speaker 4: What? So that was? That was? That was that was crazy?
- 19:17Speaker 1: That was that just the feeling of somebody saying to me,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, we want to we want to sign you
- 19:23Speaker 1: to a record company.
- 19:26Speaker 4: And it was Tone from track Masters.
- 19:27Speaker 1: At the time he was running he was running Motown
- 19:30Speaker 1: right and Universal he was it was silver or Rome.
- 19:33Speaker 4: He was underneath Silvi or Rome.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So signing that deal was just like everything for me,
- 19:39Speaker 1: Like I was just so stuck in the moment that
- 19:42Speaker 1: that I didn't even realize they that I needed to
- 19:46Speaker 1: be doing more and that they needed to be doing more.
- 19:48Speaker 1: And in two years that went by and I got dropped,
- 19:51Speaker 1: Like you know what I'm saying, But I was just
- 19:52Speaker 1: so stuck and the fact that I was just.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Like, oh, I got a deal less than two years.
- 19:58Speaker 6: You know, like you said, you were just so and
- 20:00Speaker 6: then you had got dropped. You know, how did you
- 20:02Speaker 6: take that lesson into your next situation with Atlantic?
- 20:06Speaker 4: So I was down here, I was in Atlanta. I
- 20:10Speaker 4: was in Atlanta.
- 20:12Speaker 1: It was it was one of it was the BT Awards,
- 20:15Speaker 1: this was this is this had to be maybe two
- 20:19Speaker 1: thousand and seven, two thousand six, two thousand and seven, right,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and man, I was down here, we was, we was,
- 20:29Speaker 1: you know, running around at the awards. And I got
- 20:33Speaker 1: a call from the lawyer. He said, uh, hey, the
- 20:37Speaker 1: record company don't feel like they don't want to do
- 20:39Speaker 1: besiness with you no more.
- 20:41Speaker 4: At the award? Why are you at the War Show?
- 20:43Speaker 1: I wasn't at the War Show, but I was in Atlanta, okay,
- 20:46Speaker 1: And I was like, all right, all right. You know
- 20:52Speaker 1: two years that went by, they wasn't really doing what
- 20:55Speaker 1: I thought that they were supposed to do, because I
- 20:56Speaker 1: had the notion that as soon as you signed a
- 20:58Speaker 1: recording deal, like they gonna blow you up right, like
- 21:03Speaker 1: this is what I'm thinking, Like, Okay, like I'm gonna
- 21:05Speaker 1: be on TV. I'm gonna have songs with Marith Carrey,
- 21:08Speaker 1: like I'm gonna be up right, like I'm gonna have
- 21:11Speaker 1: this feeling of success. I'm gonna be living in a
- 21:13Speaker 1: big house. My mom's gonna be good. Like that's what
- 21:16Speaker 1: I'm thinking. Like soon as you get the record deal,
- 21:17Speaker 1: everything happens. And it wasn't true. You get the record deal,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you're supposed to work even harder. So when he called
- 21:24Speaker 1: me and told me that they didn't want to do
- 21:26Speaker 1: Betters with me no more, for some reason, I wasn't
- 21:29Speaker 1: stressing it. For some reason, I just I don't know why.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I didn't have no move in my head. I didn't
- 21:35Speaker 1: know what I was gonna do. But I was like,
- 21:38Speaker 1: all right, cool, And then I called Tone. I was like, yo,
- 21:40Speaker 1: you know, y'all y'all dropping me right, And he said,
- 21:42Speaker 1: what man, I'm gonna fix it. Man, don't worry about it.
- 21:45Speaker 4: You good. I said, nah, man, I'm cool. Let it be.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I don't know why. I don't know why. I can't
- 21:54Speaker 1: tell you what the feeling was, but I was. I
- 21:56Speaker 1: was confident enough to know that I'm gonna be all right.
- 22:00Speaker 1: But I'm back in the hood, you understand, I'm back
- 22:02Speaker 1: going to the to the to the to the hood
- 22:04Speaker 1: studios because you know, I had a budget.
- 22:06Speaker 4: I was at a sony I was you know what
- 22:08Speaker 4: I mean.
- 22:08Speaker 1: I was getting you know, I was having a you know,
- 22:10Speaker 1: interns and ship like that. So you know, I was
- 22:13Speaker 1: at food budget. So things different. Now we're back, you know,
- 22:17Speaker 1: in the basement, and you know, I just think I
- 22:23Speaker 1: was right. Do you think you needed that far right there? Yeah?
- 22:25Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Sometimes you gotta get you gotta you gotta come back down, right.
- 22:29Speaker 1: You gotta sometimes get be humbled, you understand, Sometimes you
- 22:32Speaker 1: gotta be knocked down, you know what I mean.
- 22:35Speaker 4: But it's it's a test to your to your strength,
- 22:38Speaker 4: you know.
- 22:39Speaker 1: And I felt like in that moment, I was I
- 22:43Speaker 1: didn't know what I was gonna do, but I knew
- 22:46Speaker 1: I was gonna.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Be all right? Is that when I came in Search?
- 22:50Speaker 1: Absolutely, So what happened was this. I had been talking
- 22:55Speaker 1: to Atlantic. I mean, I guess we was talking. Jean
- 22:59Speaker 1: Nelson just started as and on over there. You know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: we was really close at this point. It had been
- 23:06Speaker 1: some talks about me actually coming to Atlantic at the time.
- 23:09Speaker 1: They knew my relationship with Kim at the time, so
- 23:11Speaker 1: it was like it was, you know, we was talking
- 23:16Speaker 1: and then I didn't have no deal and none of that,
- 23:19Speaker 1: and then I made this song Hater right when I
- 23:22Speaker 1: didn't have nothing, So I don't have no deal. I
- 23:24Speaker 1: mixed the song and I know, and when I hear
- 23:26Speaker 1: the song, I'm like, yo, this is this is this
- 23:29Speaker 1: could be this could be it? Right, that's universal. It
- 23:32Speaker 1: was universal, right. I felt like it was something universal.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I felt like it was I had stole at hook
- 23:39Speaker 1: from I stole a hook I did from from Cameron. Actually,
- 23:44Speaker 1: Cameron had a song. Cameron had a song on his
- 23:50Speaker 1: album Come Home with Me, and the line went he
- 23:54Speaker 1: was talking about somebody and he said he come to
- 23:56Speaker 1: his funeral and he looked in the.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Casket and go, ah, Hayter.
- 24:01Speaker 1: So I was like, oh, you know what I mean.
- 24:04Speaker 1: I heard that when I was in prison. That album
- 24:07Speaker 1: came out, I still you know, we had Old Boy
- 24:08Speaker 1: and all that on it. I had heard that when
- 24:10Speaker 1: I was in jail, So I was like, just him saying, Hi,
- 24:13Speaker 1: I hater to somebody that was hating on him.
- 24:16Speaker 4: But now the person's daddy in the casket.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I just I totally got that, and I kind of
- 24:23Speaker 1: took that idea and made that hook. You know. So
- 24:30Speaker 1: when I heard it, I knew it was something. I
- 24:32Speaker 1: knew that everybody in the world felt like they had hated,
- 24:36Speaker 1: whether they was young, old, black, white, you know, it
- 24:39Speaker 1: didn't matter, right, that's gonna you know, it's gonna go
- 24:42Speaker 1: because it was very relatable.
- 24:44Speaker 4: But I still didn't have a deal.
- 24:46Speaker 1: So at the time, my brother eighty, he's, uh, he's
- 24:49Speaker 1: in the office talking to fifty and fifty asking him
- 24:52Speaker 1: what we're doing, Like what y'all doing. He's like, yo, man,
- 24:54Speaker 1: we've been talking to Atlantic And he says to him,
- 24:59Speaker 1: you know, wordy, I'm talking about what they're doing. They're like, man,
- 25:02Speaker 1: you know, you know how it is. You're talking on
- 25:03Speaker 1: the labels and sometimes it goes months. Say yo, no,
- 25:06Speaker 1: can be talking for months. You could be talking for
- 25:10Speaker 1: months facts, you know, but you want to hear the words.
- 25:13Speaker 1: These are the words you want to hear when they
- 25:14Speaker 1: want to do business with you. Who's your lawyer? That's
- 25:16Speaker 1: who you That's what you want to hear.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 25:18Speaker 1: The back and forth talking is cool. He says to them, Yo,
- 25:23Speaker 1: what your what they what they trying to do? He's like, man,
- 25:25Speaker 1: we've been talking. He said, Yo, you need me to
- 25:28Speaker 1: You need me to call over there?
- 25:30Speaker 4: He said why not.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And picked up the phone, called over there, called Craig Common, Yo,
- 25:39Speaker 1: look what you're doing maino. He said, oh, yeah, we
- 25:41Speaker 1: been talking. He said, look, man, if I could do it,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I would do it.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Shout out to fifty.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, this is this is this is the thing. Right,
- 25:50Speaker 1: Like that call put me in position. Right.
- 25:54Speaker 4: I never forget that call.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I wasn't there for the call, but I got the
- 26:01Speaker 1: call right. The thing was, you know, this is fifty.
- 26:06Speaker 1: This is at the time when like he's hot fifty right,
- 26:10Speaker 1: there's nothing, there's nothing bigger than him. He called that
- 26:12Speaker 1: man and said listen, he call that white man and say, look.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Still call the white man out today.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Yeah, call that white man and say, look what y'all
- 26:20Speaker 1: doing with mano? Yeah, y'all gonna do this deal? Or
- 26:23Speaker 1: what was happening? I would do it if I cook
- 26:26Speaker 1: they got their movement, they you know what I mean,
- 26:28Speaker 1: I would do it. And that's all that needed to
- 26:30Speaker 1: be said. You know what happened. They called me right away.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I had a meet in the same day like this,
- 26:37Speaker 1: Like it was like a late meeting too, like if
- 26:40Speaker 1: you understand, it was like after the office hours, like
- 26:42Speaker 1: they called me up there and I go up there,
- 26:46Speaker 1: but I got that song. I got other songs, but
- 26:50Speaker 1: I had that song. When they heard that song, they said,
- 26:53Speaker 1: oh this is a smash. Now this is probably like
- 26:57Speaker 1: a year a year and a half before it even
- 26:58Speaker 1: came out. But that's how I was able to position
- 27:03Speaker 1: myself from getting dropped to finding myself to finding you know,
- 27:08Speaker 1: some footing and having you know, some you know, some help,
- 27:12Speaker 1: you know, because that that call was was very, very,
- 27:15Speaker 1: very a lot of calculated phone calls, calculated steps, a
- 27:18Speaker 1: lot confidence in yourself, believing in yourself to position yourself
- 27:22Speaker 1: and have leverage.
- 27:25Speaker 6: But real quick just for the audience, because I think
- 27:27Speaker 6: a lot of times people confuse how record works, like
- 27:31Speaker 6: a hit record, like you said you had high Hater
- 27:34Speaker 6: in the clip like way before it came out. And
- 27:37Speaker 6: you know, even today, you'll hear a record like a
- 27:41Speaker 6: long like early on and then it comes out like
- 27:44Speaker 6: a year or two later. Can you explain that process,
- 27:47Speaker 6: because I think a lot of people get confused with that.
- 27:49Speaker 4: It's about positioning.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I knew when I had that record, I was like,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I was hearing different things, right. I remember a DJ
- 27:57Speaker 1: at New York was like, man, it's cool, it's like
- 27:59Speaker 1: a mixed your record. I remember Kim telling me. I
- 28:02Speaker 1: remember Kim telling me, Yo, you need to you need
- 28:04Speaker 1: to throw that out there. But I knew if I
- 28:06Speaker 1: threw it out there, I know I had, I had,
- 28:07Speaker 1: I had, you see, I'm I'm a person I like
- 28:10Speaker 1: to learn, right. I remember a buster told me, he said,
- 28:14Speaker 1: a record with no no plan and no resources, it's
- 28:20Speaker 1: not a record at all. Right, you can sonically it's gonna.
- 28:25Speaker 4: Sound like.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Come in or go and stay out.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Come on, He's telling the Sonically it's gonna sound like
- 28:32Speaker 1: you like you're gonna be in your car, like, oh,
- 28:34Speaker 1: this is the greatest record up ever, how you doing,
- 28:36Speaker 1: how you're doing, how you feeling, you know, And the
- 28:39Speaker 1: thing is without without the plan, without the resources, without
- 28:45Speaker 1: all these things, it's just it's just a dope.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Record for you, for you, for you and your people
- 28:49Speaker 4: to enjoy. So I knew that.
- 28:51Speaker 1: So I kept it because I knew I didn't want
- 28:52Speaker 1: to just throw it out there and just it just
- 28:54Speaker 1: be lost, you know, So I know I needed some muscle.
- 28:57Speaker 2: We'll be right back with more of the ball Alert Show.
- 29:03Speaker 2: You're listening to a special edition of The Baller Alert.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Show, and it was popping.
- 29:07Speaker 1: It's your boy, mano, and right now you tune into
- 29:09Speaker 1: the ball Alert Show real quickly.
- 29:11Speaker 6: You mentioned Kim a lot, and you know, the most
- 29:14Speaker 6: pivotal times as far as getting your career started. What
- 29:16Speaker 6: was the role that she played in your life at
- 29:18Speaker 6: that time, because it seems very important.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I feel like I was. I was kind of like
- 29:24Speaker 1: in her camp, right, you know, we had our own thing.
- 29:29Speaker 1: We was hustle hard, you know, we had I had,
- 29:32Speaker 1: you know, the streets, so to speak, right, I had.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I was was very important in my neighborhood and very
- 29:39Speaker 1: influential where I come from. Me and my God, So
- 29:42Speaker 1: we had that, you know, but Kim is this is
- 29:45Speaker 1: this is a superstar, right and you know us us
- 29:48Speaker 1: coming around her, you know, it was it was it helped.
- 29:52Speaker 1: It helped me to, for one, to open up my mind, right,
- 29:57Speaker 1: first time I ever been on a lead yet be
- 29:59Speaker 1: flying out in Miami.
- 30:00Speaker 4: And that's how I was able.
- 30:00Speaker 1: To make rumors because there was rumors that I was
- 30:03Speaker 1: hearing while I was in Miami. And I came back
- 30:06Speaker 1: like I just came back from Miami, right. So the
- 30:08Speaker 1: thing it was like she didn't have to she didn't
- 30:12Speaker 1: have to do nothing for me.
- 30:14Speaker 6: That was enough, right, Just she ain't get a part
- 30:17Speaker 6: of the experience and learn to get.
- 30:20Speaker 1: This is what I'm saying, Like a lot of times
- 30:22Speaker 1: artists want you to do things for them all the time.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I didn't need that. So quick, quick, quick scenario. We
- 30:29Speaker 1: was down there working on her album Naked Truth. Two
- 30:33Speaker 1: days go by. I'm noticing that she not in the
- 30:36Speaker 1: studio early on, and only the engineers in there. So
- 30:40Speaker 1: the engineers sitting there board, she and the crib, all
- 30:44Speaker 1: of the other guys that's helping the writing and all that,
- 30:46Speaker 1: they all in the crib with her. So I'm like, yo,
- 30:49Speaker 1: I go to gen Nelson. I'm like, yo, Look, nobody
- 30:52Speaker 1: in the studio working. Can I go in at like
- 30:55Speaker 1: ten eleven o'clock in the morning.
- 30:57Speaker 4: He like sure.
- 30:58Speaker 1: So this is what I'm saying. This is me taking
- 31:00Speaker 1: the initiative. This is me saying, look, I want it.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I want it bad bad enough. I'm good with you
- 31:07Speaker 1: being around, but I'm willing to work for myself.
- 31:11Speaker 4: And that was always my attitude. Question. How is Mayo
- 31:14Speaker 4: at this time when you got this song, the high
- 31:16Speaker 4: Hater song and.
- 31:17Speaker 1: The clip you get the deal and it's not coming
- 31:20Speaker 1: out yet, How does may not stay out of trouble?
- 31:22Speaker 4: Because remember, right right, right right, big dog, you know.
- 31:27Speaker 1: What I'm saying, You did time, and I know people
- 31:29Speaker 1: may look to you to be that guy from the
- 31:32Speaker 1: past and they're not looking at the rapper part that
- 31:34Speaker 1: you're trying to indeed achieve. That was always something at
- 31:37Speaker 1: the highest level. How do you how did you stay
- 31:39Speaker 1: out of the way or stay out of trouble or
- 31:41Speaker 1: stay low with moving around correctly? Just got to do
- 31:46Speaker 1: it because I know that's difficult. It is difficult. It
- 31:48Speaker 1: was always always, you know, the the idea of trying
- 31:53Speaker 1: to tee the tot up on the streets, you know,
- 31:57Speaker 1: and certain issues that you still may have in the street,
- 32:01Speaker 1: you know. And it was it was things that I
- 32:03Speaker 1: still was dealing with in the street, you know that
- 32:05Speaker 1: I kind of wanted to tend to. Right, It's kind
- 32:08Speaker 1: of things that I wanted to finish. But what I'm
- 32:12Speaker 1: gonna do. I got an opportunity of a lifetime, right Like,
- 32:15Speaker 1: this is what we this is what we we dreamed about.
- 32:19Speaker 1: This is everything that I was talking about while I
- 32:20Speaker 1: was in prison. I'm saying when I got out, I'm
- 32:22Speaker 1: telling my guys, we could do this. We really who
- 32:25Speaker 1: we say we are? Everybody else faking we really that,
- 32:29Speaker 1: so we could really go do this. And the thing is,
- 32:33Speaker 1: I would like to say, it's having a strong, strong
- 32:38Speaker 1: support system of people around you. And know, yes, man,
- 32:43Speaker 1: the guys who I call my brothers loved me so
- 32:46Speaker 1: much that, man, I don't want to see, Nah, we're
- 32:50Speaker 1: doing this. Fuck that them issues and whatever you wanted
- 32:55Speaker 1: tend to you know what I mean, Because I'm I'm
- 32:58Speaker 1: I'm I'm not I'm like I'm like a guy that
- 33:02Speaker 1: kind of like.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Don't take the high road.
- 33:05Speaker 1: A lot of times, like with things like if it's
- 33:08Speaker 1: like something that was lingering. I'd be like the first
- 33:11Speaker 1: to like address it, like I don't like, you know,
- 33:14Speaker 1: be like I ain't gonna say nothing, like nah, I
- 33:17Speaker 1: want to talk like that.
- 33:17Speaker 4: We're gonna get right to it.
- 33:18Speaker 1: So, you know, there's things that happening in the hood,
- 33:21Speaker 1: and you know, stuff that was going on, and you know,
- 33:25Speaker 1: on at the same time that I was trying to
- 33:27Speaker 1: get in the industry. You know, I had to just
- 33:29Speaker 1: kind of like fall back from that because I had
- 33:31Speaker 1: an opportunity that you know, it would being counter productive,
- 33:35Speaker 1: you know, to kind of like like, we did all
- 33:37Speaker 1: this work and you're just gonna go fall victim of that,
- 33:39Speaker 1: you dumb.
- 33:41Speaker 6: A lot of people nowadays are especially a lot of
- 33:44Speaker 6: street guys, are kind of denouncing that culture today.
- 33:48Speaker 3: How do you feel about that.
- 33:49Speaker 6: And what is your take on that you're saying, Like,
- 33:52Speaker 6: like for as far as like fifty saying I'm not ganggang,
- 33:55Speaker 6: I do not gang bang.
- 33:56Speaker 3: You know you got fat Joe, we do not that stuff.
- 34:00Speaker 1: You couldn't build the jail high enough for the lyrics
- 34:03Speaker 1: I've said on.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Songs which are all untrue.
- 34:06Speaker 1: That's right, because guess what what was music? Music was
- 34:09Speaker 1: an opportunity for us to get away from that. Let's
- 34:12Speaker 1: keep it real. This is the true narrative. If we're
- 34:14Speaker 1: gonna tell the story, let's tell it the real way,
- 34:16Speaker 1: right like and like what I look like having an
- 34:19Speaker 1: opportunity and then flucking it off just because I wonder
- 34:23Speaker 1: what Keep it real? Keep it you gonna keep it
- 34:25Speaker 1: so real, you don't keep it dumb, and you beat it.
- 34:27Speaker 1: You beat the nigga that niggas talk about in past tense.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Man Mana was a real nigga, man, but he crashed out.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Damn Mano was a real nigga, but Damn man man
- 34:36Speaker 1: we just came back from his weight, Like, like, come on,
- 34:38Speaker 1: like this music. I hate to see artists getting to
- 34:44Speaker 1: the game, become artists and then either go to prison
- 34:47Speaker 1: for the rest of their.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Life or die. I hate that. I hate that.
- 34:53Speaker 1: It's like, Yo, we went through all these hurdles, all
- 34:57Speaker 1: these issues with other other black men, all these all
- 35:01Speaker 1: these these these these these these tribulations. Right to get
- 35:06Speaker 1: out of the street, to get into a corporate environment.
- 35:10Speaker 1: That's this music business where we can really like sail away, right,
- 35:15Speaker 1: That's what I'm thinking.
- 35:18Speaker 4: Just to die like like you never left.
- 35:22Speaker 5: But do you think that comes from artists not being
- 35:25Speaker 5: able to tell the difference between like this is a
- 35:29Speaker 5: business and this is the streets, and we're gonna put
- 35:33Speaker 5: this together.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I don't think artists actually get that. I think a
- 35:36Speaker 1: lot of times we're keeping it too real. Like a
- 35:39Speaker 1: lot of artists they don't know the difference. And I
- 35:41Speaker 1: think that they think this is the way to go
- 35:44Speaker 1: about it, right, you know, And they already come in
- 35:47Speaker 1: with affiliations and issues, and they come in with the
- 35:50Speaker 1: beef already. But at the same time, what I like
- 35:53Speaker 1: to tell them when I run into the young niggas
- 35:55Speaker 1: from my city, I tell them, I say, look, in
- 35:59Speaker 1: my eyes, opportunity is greater than the problem. I ain't
- 36:03Speaker 1: trying to preach to you, my nigga, but like, look
- 36:06Speaker 1: at the opportunity you got right now, right now, Like
- 36:09Speaker 1: I was sixteen fifteen, Like there was no opportunity.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Nigga had a crack, had a gun and crack for me.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you because I love a good
- 36:19Speaker 1: New York og Hustler documentary, and you saw all of
- 36:24Speaker 1: them in real time. I saw you posted one or
- 36:27Speaker 1: two here and there is that where a lot of
- 36:30Speaker 1: people from New York got the style because I seen, like, man,
- 36:33Speaker 1: I just looked at those old pictures man, and.
- 36:35Speaker 4: They had that gear on.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Man.
- 36:38Speaker 3: We fly, Man, Man fly like you still fly.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just saying, like, did the big you know,
- 36:45Speaker 1: the big dogs back in the day that deal with
- 36:48Speaker 1: they dance? Did that influence a lot of the fashion
- 36:51Speaker 1: that we see absolutely carrying on now? Absolutely when you
- 36:55Speaker 1: look at like somebody like that. But then I know,
- 36:57Speaker 1: y'all know who that is, right, You see you went
- 36:59Speaker 1: and did that deal with Gucci and all that, which
- 37:02Speaker 1: was tremendous because back in the days he was you know,
- 37:05Speaker 1: he was taking the Gucci print and putting it on
- 37:08Speaker 1: like the laws and putting it on different things, and
- 37:10Speaker 1: it was dope. And all of the street hustlers and
- 37:12Speaker 1: all of the older guys that was getting money was
- 37:15Speaker 1: wearing that, right, So it was like it influenced the
- 37:19Speaker 1: like we I mean, look, we influenced culture.
- 37:22Speaker 4: We influenced the world.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Our culture, right what we do how we take nikes
- 37:28Speaker 1: and and wearing with the laces opened a little bit,
- 37:31Speaker 1: and you know, we go back to one DMC, how
- 37:33Speaker 1: they was wearing with no laces and all that, like
- 37:35Speaker 1: we influenced the world really what we do from the hood,
- 37:38Speaker 1: you know. So yeah, definitely. How do you feel about
- 37:41Speaker 1: New York state of music right now?
- 37:43Speaker 4: I love it though. I love the fact.
- 37:45Speaker 1: That that the young boys was able to come with
- 37:49Speaker 1: a sound.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Right.
- 37:51Speaker 1: For a long time, they were saying New York didn't
- 37:54Speaker 1: have no identity, right, that we kind of lost our way,
- 37:58Speaker 1: you know, we was heavily influenced by it South, heavily
- 38:01Speaker 1: influenced by other places. And then and then you know,
- 38:04Speaker 1: the younger guys came with this, with this sound, with
- 38:07Speaker 1: this drill, you know which I was. I was, I was,
- 38:11Speaker 1: I was applauding that because we didn't kind of it
- 38:14Speaker 1: gave us.
- 38:16Speaker 4: An identity that we didn't have in a long time.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Now, I just want to see them start to individualize
- 38:21Speaker 1: themselves a lot more instead of everybody trying to sound
- 38:25Speaker 1: exactly the same on every record.
- 38:26Speaker 4: He understands, So that's the only thing with that.
- 38:29Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, look, I love my city and
- 38:32Speaker 1: I love the fact that we're still here. When you
- 38:34Speaker 1: think of, you know, New York artists, we still got
- 38:37Speaker 1: some of the biggest in the game. You know, people
- 38:39Speaker 1: forget you know, Nikki from New York. You know, French
- 38:42Speaker 1: is from New York, you understand. So you know, we
- 38:46Speaker 1: still got some of the biggest in the game right now.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Speaking of New York, they also had their love and
- 38:51Speaker 3: hip hop New York.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I did a little something.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Yeah, how'd you get on that?
- 38:58Speaker 1: They had wanted me for a long time. You know,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I had a lot of activity. I had a lot
- 39:05Speaker 1: of activity. I'll get what you're saying, you understand. And
- 39:10Speaker 1: early on, early on the first season, the first season,
- 39:14Speaker 1: the first season, I was cool with Olivia. It was
- 39:18Speaker 1: cool right and singer sing right, and you know, it
- 39:23Speaker 1: was half an hour back then. I remember the first
- 39:25Speaker 1: I remember the morning she went to go do it right,
- 39:27Speaker 1: like she had told me about it, and I was like, oh,
- 39:30Speaker 1: I can't cool. And then she did it and came on.
- 39:32Speaker 1: And then that second season, I was approached to come
- 39:35Speaker 1: on to do a scene and I was like, I
- 39:40Speaker 1: don't know. I shot one scene that they never really used.
- 39:44Speaker 1: This is back then. I shot a scene with her
- 39:47Speaker 1: that they it was it was like in a bowling alley.
- 39:48Speaker 1: I think they only used it like online.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Yeah, And then I was like, now I'm cool, you
- 39:53Speaker 1: know what I mean? And so for so time, would
- 39:57Speaker 1: you know, time will go by. They would always come
- 39:59Speaker 1: ask me, you know, you know, come on. I was like, nah,
- 40:01Speaker 1: ain't going on, no love and hip hop.
- 40:02Speaker 4: I'm going on.
- 40:03Speaker 1: And then at the time that I went on, I
- 40:05Speaker 1: really had I was really in the relationship and in
- 40:08Speaker 1: the relationship she had things going on that I felt
- 40:11Speaker 1: like she could use. So I was like, yo, if
- 40:12Speaker 1: you go on love and hip hop, it can help you, right.
- 40:15Speaker 1: So they came to me and I was like, ye,
- 40:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna put her on there, but I'm not. I'm
- 40:18Speaker 1: not coming on. And they was like, well, Mona said,
- 40:22Speaker 1: they ain't gonna do her without you. So I said,
- 40:25Speaker 1: I want this number right here, and the number for
- 40:30Speaker 1: Love and hip Hop was pretty outrageous, and she was like,
- 40:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 40:33Speaker 4: If we could do that, but maybe, you know.
- 40:35Speaker 1: And it came back and it was like, nah, were
- 40:39Speaker 1: close to it, and I was like, nah, I still
- 40:40Speaker 1: ain't doing it. And then she came back and she
- 40:43Speaker 1: said we could do the number. I said, oh, I said,
- 40:47Speaker 1: So then I'm like at this point, I mean like,
- 40:49Speaker 1: let's get it.
- 40:51Speaker 4: I gotta do do something, you know.
- 40:52Speaker 1: So the thing is, though they only pay you for
- 40:55Speaker 1: the episodes that you that actually come out, you know.
- 40:57Speaker 1: So the bag that I thought I was gonna slick though,
- 41:01Speaker 1: I was like, I'm gonna shoot all this and I'm
- 41:02Speaker 1: gonna make it right. But you only get paid for
- 41:06Speaker 1: whatever come out.
- 41:06Speaker 4: But whatever come out.
- 41:07Speaker 1: So I only was on I only was on maybe
- 41:09Speaker 1: like seven or eight episode's people.
- 41:11Speaker 4: Nah, it was.
- 41:12Speaker 1: It was good because at the number that I was at,
- 41:16Speaker 1: it was good, you know, based off of what they
- 41:19Speaker 1: paying everybody else, right, you know, you had people on
- 41:22Speaker 1: there for like like fifteen twenty five hundred.
- 41:24Speaker 4: It was like that bad. So the number that I
- 41:27Speaker 4: was at, yeah, I was like, yeah, it was better.
- 41:29Speaker 3: You know.
- 41:30Speaker 6: That was still at a time when love and hip
- 41:32Speaker 6: hop was like everybody was watching it faithfully.
- 41:34Speaker 3: So I'm sure that it introduced a new audience to you.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I don't think so. The thing about it, I never
- 41:40Speaker 1: watched it, I never promoted it.
- 41:41Speaker 4: I never nothing.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Because the thing was, I think the mistake that a
- 41:46Speaker 1: lot of people was making when it came to those
- 41:48Speaker 1: reality shows, the ones that had dreams of being artists,
- 41:52Speaker 1: was that that they was gonna get on this this
- 41:54Speaker 1: show and it.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Was gonna pop off their music career. Not true. The
- 41:59Speaker 4: show was the show.
- 42:00Speaker 1: People watching the show, they want to be entertained in
- 42:03Speaker 1: the show kind of way. They may know you as
- 42:05Speaker 1: an artist, but that doesn't make them a fan of
- 42:07Speaker 1: your music and drama. Right, this is something totally different.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I want to Yeah, they want see fights and stuff
- 42:18Speaker 1: like that. They want to see TV.
- 42:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 42:20Speaker 1: I didn't go in there and thinking it was gonna
- 42:22Speaker 1: help my music career. I had already understood.
- 42:25Speaker 4: And I was.
- 42:25Speaker 1: I was at Mona house one day and we had
- 42:27Speaker 1: a conversation she and I was like, yeah, we watched
- 42:30Speaker 1: the show.
- 42:30Speaker 4: She said, no, my kids don't watch the show. Kids
- 42:34Speaker 4: don't watch the show. I don't watch the show, so
- 42:38Speaker 4: you don't watch the show. That's crazy. My husband don't
- 42:41Speaker 4: watch the show, so your husband don't watch the show.
- 42:43Speaker 4: So who watched the show. We don't watch the show.
- 42:45Speaker 1: It's just business. It's just business. I said, Oh, and
- 42:49Speaker 1: I learned this.
- 42:49Speaker 4: It's just business. So I went and did my episodes
- 42:52Speaker 4: and kept it moving. Business didn't talk about it. I
- 42:56Speaker 4: didn't watch it. I didn't I didn't put on my page,
- 42:59Speaker 4: I didn't put link it.
- 43:01Speaker 3: Was and you may not have promoted. But when I
- 43:02Speaker 3: say new audience.
- 43:04Speaker 6: You know, there may have been other your followers may
- 43:06Speaker 6: be being up a certain way.
- 43:08Speaker 1: You know, you did have people that didn't that kind
- 43:10Speaker 1: of wasn't connected with me, that knew me, you know,
- 43:13Speaker 1: like oh I saw you on you know, which is cool.
- 43:16Speaker 4: But again, did that make them fans of the music?
- 43:18Speaker 6: It didn't, right, right, They just made you fans of
- 43:20Speaker 6: the person. The person, yeah, and your girl at the time.
- 43:24Speaker 6: But you know, then the pandemic hit and then you
- 43:27Speaker 6: had this bright idea to do a podcast us about
- 43:31Speaker 6: it was in the kitchen, kitchen talking you had a chef,
- 43:35Speaker 6: you know.
- 43:36Speaker 4: I was like that, look good man, Yeah, that was crazy.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Everybody congregates in the kitchen when they come over.
- 43:42Speaker 1: That's what We had a lot of conversations that when
- 43:45Speaker 1: we do that, we go in the house, in the
- 43:46Speaker 1: kitchen where the came from.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Just from from that.
- 43:49Speaker 1: So we was on the pandemic and you remember, like
- 43:53Speaker 1: everybody was getting pepe PPP's and I was like, I
- 43:58Speaker 1: got to figure out how to you know, I mean,
- 44:00Speaker 1: turn this into some money and all that, right, So I.
- 44:02Speaker 3: Was like, that's a hard entertainment.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm hustling hard, right.
- 44:04Speaker 1: So the first thing I did was I went and
- 44:07Speaker 1: bought all this studio equipment because I was like, everybody
- 44:10Speaker 1: getting money now, everybody people calling for verses. So I
- 44:14Speaker 1: was like, I need to figure out how to engineer
- 44:16Speaker 1: because the studios is shut down, right, we ain't going
- 44:21Speaker 1: in the studio no more.
- 44:22Speaker 4: And then we.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Getting calls about doing a versus for were selling versus.
- 44:28Speaker 1: So I'm like, all right, cool, I got the equipment,
- 44:32Speaker 1: my engineers showed me how to engineer.
- 44:35Speaker 4: And that was my first business venture.
- 44:37Speaker 1: I was in there doing two or three features a week, myself,
- 44:42Speaker 1: punching in yo right here right, I'm doing that myself.
- 44:46Speaker 1: And then I was like, yo, look we should do
- 44:49Speaker 1: a podcast.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Man. We could do it right in the kitchen and
- 44:53Speaker 4: we could call it kitchen talk, right.
- 44:56Speaker 1: And the reason I felt like that was like kitchen talk,
- 44:58Speaker 1: like because even in the street first place, you gotta
- 45:00Speaker 1: go to the kitchen.
- 45:01Speaker 4: We're gonna we're gonna get it together and then we're
- 45:03Speaker 4: gonna go outside. Right.
- 45:05Speaker 1: And I went and I bought more equipment. You know,
- 45:09Speaker 1: had bought Mike's and you know, and and a and
- 45:13Speaker 1: a and a you know, a little board and all
- 45:16Speaker 1: the board. Like, I went and bought all this stuff.
- 45:18Speaker 1: I started to invest into this stuff, right, and then
- 45:21Speaker 1: we started shooting. I ain't know what I was doing,
- 45:23Speaker 1: but I was learning as I go, you know.
- 45:25Speaker 3: And and then it became you know, you had real
- 45:28Speaker 3: good you had on there.
- 45:29Speaker 1: I had a lot of people on there, man, oh man,
- 45:32Speaker 1: I had the mayor on there. I've had But what happened,
- 45:35Speaker 1: What happened with that is that I it had got
- 45:37Speaker 1: so good. I had got up to maybe like sixty
- 45:39Speaker 1: something episodes, and then I got approached to do put
- 45:43Speaker 1: put the show on Fox Soul. So when I when
- 45:46Speaker 1: I put it on Fox Soul, it was good for
- 45:50Speaker 1: me because it.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Was like a nice check.
- 45:53Speaker 1: But then it's like, Okay, they paying me to do
- 45:56Speaker 1: twelve episodes at a time, and it's seasonal, so not consistent,
- 46:00Speaker 1: like right, so it's like write, like now, whenever they
- 46:04Speaker 1: want to do another season, I'll go get it.
- 46:06Speaker 4: Nigga, give me my six figures, you know what I mean?
- 46:09Speaker 1: When did my guy Jim Jones come into play? Did
- 46:13Speaker 1: you guys start working out together or like or you
- 46:16Speaker 1: all you guys were always friends. Me and Jim early
- 46:19Speaker 1: on didn't even like each other, right, but why we
- 46:24Speaker 1: ain't even know, we ain't know.
- 46:25Speaker 4: First of all, is it a harm. It wasn't really
- 46:29Speaker 4: Harlem Brooklyn thing.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I mean, you know, he he was cool with a
- 46:32Speaker 1: lot of dudes from from Brooklyn, and I was cool
- 46:35Speaker 1: with people from Harlem, So it wasn't that. It was
- 46:37Speaker 1: just that, I don't know, we didn't know each other.
- 46:39Speaker 1: And sometimes you can read a book the wrong the
- 46:41Speaker 1: wrong way, right, and he, you know, I would see
- 46:46Speaker 1: him with a hundred dudes, see this nigga coming in here,
- 46:53Speaker 1: like like the way he looked at so you know,
- 46:57Speaker 1: we didn't like we we kind of like each other.
- 46:59Speaker 1: And then and then we got cool, right once we talked.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Once we talked, we clicked and we started doing music together,
- 47:10Speaker 1: right started you know, pulling up you know, and then
- 47:13Speaker 1: we just you know, curated a relationship, you know, over.
- 47:19Speaker 4: Time and years ago.
- 47:21Speaker 1: He had a line where he was like, man, shout
- 47:24Speaker 1: out to the Bugatti boys, but me and may know
- 47:26Speaker 1: we the lobby boys, right, And this was years ago,
- 47:29Speaker 1: and we always talked about doing the album together, you know,
- 47:32Speaker 1: but we had never you know how it's hard to
- 47:35Speaker 1: get too artists on the same page at the same time.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Right, you know.
- 47:40Speaker 4: Together, know what I'm saying, so, you know, it was
- 47:43Speaker 4: hard to do that.
- 47:44Speaker 1: So yeah, over time we just started connecting and then
- 47:48Speaker 1: it happened, you know, and it started to happen, and
- 47:51Speaker 1: then we did the first Lobby Boys. Now we're on
- 47:52Speaker 1: the second one.
- 47:53Speaker 4: So yeah, we tour dates. Yeah, actually, yep, it happened.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Absolutely, we're excited to see that.
- 48:01Speaker 6: Another thing that you did around like twenty one was
- 48:03Speaker 6: a Chelsea's House, that's the family.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I just told me how to come over there
- 48:09Speaker 1: South Yeah, Chelsea house, you know, delicious, Yeah, you know,
- 48:12Speaker 1: and a lot of I was telling you a lot
- 48:13Speaker 1: of people here Chelsea's House because in Chelsea Chelsea is
- 48:18Speaker 1: an area in Manhattan.
- 48:20Speaker 4: So it's special about Chelsea Chelsea Manhattan.
- 48:23Speaker 1: It's just a cool area. Like it's cool. It's it's
- 48:26Speaker 1: a little vibe. Especially in the summertime. See everybody everybody
- 48:30Speaker 1: from here, like they come they come to New York.
- 48:32Speaker 4: It's like all the rats, all of the rats, so
- 48:34Speaker 4: so cool. You got you got a lot of rats.
- 48:37Speaker 4: But in the summertime, New York is lit, like you know,
- 48:39Speaker 4: everybody in the summertimes, New York is lit.
- 48:43Speaker 5: And I haven't seen a big rat in New York
- 48:45Speaker 5: when I when I went, you had I haven't I
- 48:47Speaker 5: haven't seen no big rat.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Where was you at? Sure you was in New York City? Yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 4: I was in Manhattan. You didn't see no rats. I
- 48:53Speaker 4: didn't see no rat. That's what's up. I wasn't looking
- 48:55Speaker 4: for him either. Now they look, they usually look.
- 48:58Speaker 3: For you and you have two locations.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Now, well yeah we had well we we had an
- 49:04Speaker 1: issue with the with the landlord because the second location
- 49:08Speaker 1: was like a it was turned into like a club.
- 49:12Speaker 4: Where was the second location that it was?
- 49:13Speaker 1: It was in Manhattan, Bucers on the upper It was
- 49:15Speaker 1: on the Upper west side right, So they were like
- 49:18Speaker 1: all these people coming in.
- 49:19Speaker 4: Here ya your triple park like police coming here. So
- 49:22Speaker 4: it was like double park, triple parking like literally was crazy.
- 49:29Speaker 4: We was going crazy.
- 49:30Speaker 1: So it was that was happening. So we find in
- 49:34Speaker 1: another location for the second one. You know, I was
- 49:37Speaker 1: only a lot of a lot of a lot of
- 49:38Speaker 1: homies came there from there. I had Monica pull up
- 49:40Speaker 1: down there, you know, said the dog, you know, free
- 49:43Speaker 1: thug gunning and been there future been there. You know,
- 49:48Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of a lot of homies
- 49:49Speaker 1: from from Atlanta, been there.
- 49:51Speaker 3: We got to make our with.
- 49:53Speaker 1: You go you have a song? Yeah, yeah, the whole
- 49:56Speaker 1: video a minute was holding. We just talked about that
- 50:00Speaker 1: when the music time listen though, right, Ye said for sure? Right,
- 50:03Speaker 1: So so before the around the time of the pandemic
- 50:07Speaker 1: or maybe like right before that, me and Thug I
- 50:08Speaker 1: did the song and then we shot the video in
- 50:10Speaker 1: La that's f.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Yeah, because Doug has blond hair and I'm over here
- 50:14Speaker 4: like this has been from a couple of years.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Yeah, in a minute that sound though, no sound on
- 50:20Speaker 1: the yeah on the novel.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Is Maino Day?
- 50:26Speaker 1: Man?
- 50:27Speaker 3: You sixteenth?
- 50:28Speaker 6: Congratulations you play.
- 50:32Speaker 4: You know they needed to play.
- 50:33Speaker 1: They need to take like journalists because you go some
- 50:37Speaker 1: places sometimes and they don't know, they don't do no
- 50:40Speaker 1: type of research. I'll be doing interviews sometimes and I
- 50:43Speaker 1: go get up there and I do a little research
- 50:47Speaker 1: just like that.
- 50:48Speaker 3: You know, I appreciate it.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 50:49Speaker 6: But you had a lot of you have a lot
- 50:52Speaker 6: in life that you have accomplished, and this is one
- 50:55Speaker 6: that is super big for Maino Day, which is August sixteenth.
- 50:58Speaker 6: I'm not too far away from your birthday, but will
- 51:03Speaker 6: you do anything special because I know, like for angela
- 51:05Speaker 6: Ye Day, she does a lot, But for.
- 51:07Speaker 3: Your day, what do you have going on?
- 51:08Speaker 1: So first of all, that's my mother's birthday, right, Yeah, that's.
- 51:11Speaker 4: My mom's birthday. Right. My mom's here, right.
- 51:15Speaker 1: And so that's special in itself. So I get to,
- 51:18Speaker 1: you know, celebrate her birthday, you know, do something special
- 51:22Speaker 1: for her, you know she's not here no more. And
- 51:25Speaker 1: at the same time, do something special in the hood.
- 51:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 51:27Speaker 1: I want to already put my permits in the block
- 51:30Speaker 1: off two streets, right, We're gonna do this big block party.
- 51:33Speaker 1: I want to have some stuff going on for the community,
- 51:35Speaker 1: have some vendors down there, you know, you know, and
- 51:38Speaker 1: and have some information.
- 51:39Speaker 4: Man, I feel like the hood lack information. You need information.
- 51:44Speaker 1: We needed to start having information about real estate and
- 51:49Speaker 1: you know in the smaller things like the hood need
- 51:52Speaker 1: healthcare and like that. And I've seen something the other
- 51:55Speaker 1: day that was real profound to me. Man, it was
- 51:59Speaker 1: I should have rep but I didn't. I've seen a
- 52:01Speaker 1: dude say, man, everybody talking about Man, I'm trying to
- 52:04Speaker 1: leave my kids something. I'm trying to leave my kids something. Man,
- 52:08Speaker 1: I'm hustling so I can leave my kids something. He said, Nigga,
- 52:11Speaker 1: all you gotta do is get fucking life insurance.
- 52:13Speaker 4: Leave the kids something.
- 52:15Speaker 1: And then when you think about that though, right, that's
- 52:19Speaker 1: it's something to that, right, like it's we all want
- 52:22Speaker 1: to leave our kids something. We all want to have
- 52:24Speaker 1: this grand you know fortune, you understand, but you know,
- 52:28Speaker 1: but we still should position ourselves whether we have that
- 52:32Speaker 1: fortune or not, we should still do certain things.
- 52:35Speaker 4: And that's what I'm saying. It's the information, right, It's
- 52:37Speaker 4: just that simple. Right. We grew up in the hood.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Nobody be telling us nothing.
- 52:41Speaker 1: We gotta figure everything be as low as twenty dollars
- 52:44Speaker 1: a month, is what I'm saying.
- 52:45Speaker 4: But that's information that we lack. Information that we lack.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Speaking the kids, is that some of the things that
- 52:51Speaker 3: you share with your.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Son absolutely some twenty one. Now, I'm fucking believing.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Man, he can party with you, he do with you.
- 53:01Speaker 4: I'll be having him everywhere. He didn't been all over
- 53:04Speaker 4: with me, y'all take them all the country. He been.
- 53:06Speaker 4: Oh man, Sometimes I look at him.
- 53:08Speaker 1: He was in l a one time and I'm like,
- 53:10Speaker 1: I look over and we're not even in the strip
- 53:12Speaker 1: club and the girl was just busting it open on him,
- 53:15Speaker 1: and I'm just like, oh, my god, I'm a bad father, Like.
- 53:20Speaker 4: Like this is crazy, man. Yeah, yes, because it's baby
- 53:23Speaker 4: boy at the end of the day.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:25Speaker 1: But the thing, so my philosophy was I'm gonna take
- 53:28Speaker 1: him out with me so that he can learn how
- 53:31Speaker 1: to do these things because he coming to an age
- 53:33Speaker 1: with you know, you're getting around seven to eighteen. You
- 53:35Speaker 1: want to explore, you want to start hanging out with
- 53:38Speaker 1: you at homie, start meeting girls, going to parties and
- 53:40Speaker 1: all that.
- 53:41Speaker 4: I felt like it was a way to do that.
- 53:43Speaker 1: It's a way to be safe to do that, right,
- 53:46Speaker 1: It's an etiquette at partying, right, It's a way to
- 53:49Speaker 1: make sure you get home safe and everybody is safe.
- 53:52Speaker 4: So come out with me. Let me show you how
- 53:54Speaker 4: to do popes right.
- 53:57Speaker 1: And sometimes I'm like it might being a father him
- 53:59Speaker 1: from being a homeboy, Like I'm just.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Like his homie, Like I don't understand, Like what's going on.
- 54:04Speaker 3: That's kind of parent right, it's crazy grow with your.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Kids, right, And the girls be coming around and be like,
- 54:10Speaker 1: ain't your son. I'm like what, so I say, either
- 54:12Speaker 1: I'm too young or I look too young, you look
- 54:14Speaker 1: too old?
- 54:14Speaker 4: What's happening? What we're doing? Like you know what I mean,
- 54:16Speaker 4: I look this good, nigga, what's up?
- 54:17Speaker 5: Like?
- 54:19Speaker 1: So yeah, it's it's cool because he get the we
- 54:23Speaker 1: we just got a dope relationship. And I say to him, man,
- 54:25Speaker 1: I wish I had the opportunity to have a relationship
- 54:28Speaker 1: with my father like this.
- 54:29Speaker 4: You know.
- 54:29Speaker 1: I wish I could have been like a grown man
- 54:31Speaker 1: and and like talk to.
- 54:33Speaker 6: My pops like you know, that would motivate you to
- 54:35Speaker 6: stay present in his life, you know, throughout his whole life.
- 54:38Speaker 1: Absolutely, man like absolutely, like you know, you know, kids
- 54:42Speaker 1: focus you up. You know what I remember I was
- 54:44Speaker 1: telling my son was born, I still was in prison,
- 54:47Speaker 1: and I'm like, man, I got three more months, right,
- 54:49Speaker 1: So I'm like, man, I got to get it together.
- 54:51Speaker 1: You know, we could go full steam ahead in the streets.
- 54:54Speaker 1: But I was like, look, man, music, let me at
- 54:57Speaker 1: least get at a trial. Let me at least get
- 54:58Speaker 1: at a real try. If it don't work, then whatever,
- 55:00Speaker 1: but let me at least give it a real try.
- 55:02Speaker 1: And you know, having a son, it just makes you
- 55:05Speaker 1: kind of like get it together because you got somebody
- 55:08Speaker 1: that needs you, you know, and it's different.
- 55:11Speaker 6: What made you want to stop there? Because you know,
- 55:13Speaker 6: a lot of rappers be having kids.
- 55:14Speaker 4: Now twelve kids. I got two years. I got a
- 55:17Speaker 4: daughter too. Yeah yeah, so she's eleven.
- 55:19Speaker 1: I just came back from Vegas and she she plays
- 55:22Speaker 1: all these sports right, like, man, she's like a child
- 55:26Speaker 1: pro protege, right prodigy. She plays the flute, she's uh,
- 55:32Speaker 1: she's she's played soccer, she's doing tennis.
- 55:36Speaker 4: Well. Her number one sport is volleyball.
- 55:39Speaker 1: So I just came back from Vegas from her volleyball tournaments.
- 55:42Speaker 4: That's what's her. They was playing like seven eight games
- 55:44Speaker 4: a day.
- 55:45Speaker 3: Wow.
- 55:46Speaker 1: You know, I had a new respect for volleyballs, Like
- 55:48Speaker 1: I wanted to get out there and play.
- 55:49Speaker 4: I'm want there and I'm like embarrassing though, like I'm.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Out there going yeah yeah, let's goat yeah yeah. Every
- 55:59Speaker 1: time she hit the ball and to get it and
- 56:00Speaker 1: I'm like yeah, and I'm like I'm ready to run
- 56:03Speaker 1: out there. And her mom's like, yo, please, you don't
- 56:05Speaker 1: embarrass something, man, and she telling me this is a
- 56:08Speaker 1: social suicide, like.
- 56:12Speaker 4: Too much, Like I love it.
- 56:14Speaker 3: Did you want any more kids or you're done?
- 56:16Speaker 1: Sometimes I do I'm like yeah no, yeah, maybe nah,
- 56:19Speaker 1: I don't want no kids.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Nothing to go man, Maybe you know.
- 56:21Speaker 1: So you know, it's up and down and a lot
- 56:23Speaker 1: of that depends on who you're with at the time
- 56:27Speaker 1: in your life, you know what I mean, Because the
- 56:29Speaker 1: right person to make you do whatever right. You know,
- 56:32Speaker 1: you say no to one thing, but then you find
- 56:34Speaker 1: the right person. It's like, man, she might get ten.
- 56:39Speaker 3: Has anybody made you feel like that?
- 56:42Speaker 4: Nah? Not not not yet, not yet.
- 56:45Speaker 1: I'm open to it though, Okay, I'm open to it.
- 56:49Speaker 1: You know, make me feel something, baby makes me feel
- 56:54Speaker 1: so may know a single.
- 56:55Speaker 4: Yeah I'm single, but I'll be like trying things out,
- 56:58Speaker 4: you know, less people. You know what I'm saying.
- 57:01Speaker 6: Like, you know, speaking of try things out, We'll go
- 57:06Speaker 6: back to Way Up with you.
- 57:09Speaker 3: You tried that.
- 57:09Speaker 6: Out and you are like a regular and it is
- 57:12Speaker 6: fascinating to see to hear you on there because you
- 57:15Speaker 6: be going in on people.
- 57:16Speaker 4: First of all, I got to say pause and trying
- 57:18Speaker 4: things out? Right, that sounded crazy things out could be
- 57:22Speaker 4: because it's a pause. Ever right now, that was New York.
- 57:26Speaker 3: I didn't. That wasn't That wasn't a man's in there
- 57:29Speaker 3: is like, yeah, that.
- 57:30Speaker 4: Was the pause pause clip. But listen.
- 57:37Speaker 1: The Way Up that show because the thing people be
- 57:40Speaker 1: calling up there with stupidness.
- 57:41Speaker 4: Man, It's like, why would you call up here?
- 57:43Speaker 1: You sound let you know it be wow.
- 57:48Speaker 4: People making it up.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I ain't making this up, like people really calling it
- 57:53Speaker 1: talking crazy, talking about yo.
- 57:55Speaker 4: I slipt with this one and you know I slept
- 57:57Speaker 4: with that one.
- 57:57Speaker 1: And one girl said she had what she she said
- 58:00Speaker 1: she had sex with how many dudes? And one year
- 58:03Speaker 1: I forgot the numb It was just ridiculous. Like I'm
- 58:06Speaker 1: just like, wow, and I don't want judge, like because
- 58:08Speaker 1: I ain't nobody to be judging nobody, like I ain't
- 58:11Speaker 1: no greater than no other human. But at the same time,
- 58:13Speaker 1: I'm just like you calling up here for a reason.
- 58:16Speaker 1: I'm thinking you're looking for advice right right? You just
- 58:19Speaker 1: don't want to just say this. You want somebody to
- 58:21Speaker 1: tell you.
- 58:21Speaker 3: Something, you know, and you be telling them, you be
- 58:24Speaker 3: letting them know.
- 58:26Speaker 6: Speaking of the current events, Man, a lot of people
- 58:28Speaker 6: are letting did he have it?
- 58:30Speaker 3: Right now? What is your take on all that's going
- 58:32Speaker 3: on with him?
- 58:33Speaker 1: I want to see more than just these accusations. Man,
- 58:36Speaker 1: I've been lied on. I mean, I hadn't been in
- 58:38Speaker 1: a situation where people said things things been taken out
- 58:41Speaker 1: of context. What is what we're talking about is what
- 58:47Speaker 1: is he? Is he being accused of?
- 58:51Speaker 4: Of? What?
- 58:51Speaker 1: I don't I'm not sure, Like I don't know, like
- 58:54Speaker 1: I want to see more, Like I don't want to
- 58:55Speaker 1: just condemn somebody, you know, just based off of what
- 58:59Speaker 1: popular you know, uh belief is.
- 59:02Speaker 4: You know, I mean ship, I might be a freak.
- 59:05Speaker 1: I might like to do, you know, crazy things with
- 59:07Speaker 1: my girl or whatever, but you know whatever that is
- 59:10Speaker 1: right at the same time, we're talking about crimes, like
- 59:14Speaker 1: what's what's the crime?
- 59:15Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 59:16Speaker 1: I just I don't want to jump on the bandwagon
- 59:17Speaker 1: and just be like, oh, you know, this person did
- 59:20Speaker 1: this and he did this because this is what the
- 59:22Speaker 1: news is saying, or you know, then we're talking about
- 59:25Speaker 1: these people making these accusations. You got some dude named
- 59:29Speaker 1: Little Rod. First of all, that should be a fucking
- 59:32Speaker 1: pause on his name, like nick Na, Like.
- 59:37Speaker 4: How you name little Rod?
- 59:38Speaker 1: Like that's your name, Little Rod?
- 59:45Speaker 4: That's wow, that's pause for real?
- 59:47Speaker 3: It could be sure for Rodney.
- 59:49Speaker 4: That should be no didty right? Wait?
- 59:52Speaker 5: Do you do you think it's like agenda to destroy?
- 59:56Speaker 4: This is what I'm saying.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna go I'm lean, I'm gonna lean
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: on that because I feel like it's so easy for
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: us to just be pushed in this direction.
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: Right, It's so easy. All it takes is.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: You know the media, and if you know anything about
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: you know, the sixties. And I hate to get all
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: like this, but if you know anything about the sixties
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: and what they did with black leadership and all that,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: these were some of the tactics right to destroy you. Basically,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: they divide and concoct. There you go, right, so cointel
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: pro what they would do us. They will put out misinformation,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: have us looking at each other, right. They sending out
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: letters and sending out things saying you know this one
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: talking about that one, this one got caught doing this, right,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: and it keeps us dis organized, right, and also propaganda
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: which is fed few through the media.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: It's a tool that's always been used. Media controls them,
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: is what I'm saying.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: So I'm not quick to jump at what everybody else
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: is running running towards like because if you ask the
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: average person, it's like what you think he did?
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: He's like, I he did something I don't know, like
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: he you know what I mean? He was sex trafficking.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: What sex?
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: They got to give me a clear definition of what

- 1:02:01Speaker 1: on the way on the way here.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: That would be dope.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: That would be dope, like just doing it. I like
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: the game because you could just do whatever.
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Social media, you know, gave us the opportunity to kind
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: of like do whatever we want to do. We don't
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: got to stay in the realm or just doing things
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: just the particular way of you know, I put out
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: a project and then you take two videos, like you
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: could do whatever you want to do. It's things that
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: it's songs that I like three, four, five, six years ago,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: and I'm like, man, maybe I could whether they was
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: popular or not, I liked it. Maybe I could just
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: go back and do something like that. You know, so

- 1:03:07Speaker 4: Oh my god, this was the craziest. I didn't think
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: it was that crazy. I didn't go, oh ship, he

- 1:03:13Speaker 3: It wasn't like the takeover.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: Yeah, like I think it was a jab, but I

- 1:03:20Speaker 1: It was definitely it was a job. It was definitely
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: was a jab, right. I guess he's trying to bake
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Drake to say something.
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: On Drake said someone. That's what we basically saying. I
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: think they've been both jabbing each other for a long time.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Small, I don't, but I don't think Drake, you don't think.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: You don't think so not like Kendrick can rap. But
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Drake is an overall artist.
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: Right as far as hits go, hits.

- 1:04:41Speaker 1: and he got and he got hits too. But I
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: think if I had to pick, you know, it would
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: be Drake.
