- 0:13Speaker 1: First Light Go farther, stay longer, and now your hosts
- 0:18Speaker 1: Case Smith and Tyler Jones.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The acorns are falling around the country. Food sources seem
- 0:25Speaker 2: to be the key in mid to late September. But
- 0:27Speaker 2: are you on the right one. This is rut Fresh.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 0:47Speaker 4: What's going on? Everyone? This is ret Fresh Radio, brought
- 0:50Speaker 4: to you by First Light Year. I'm ca C. Smith.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Tyler Jones is here with me as well. And it's fall, y'all.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Some of y'all know. I might not know that, but
- 0:58Speaker 2: it's a pretty common terminology used around here because sept
- 1:02Speaker 2: Turn twenty second officially sent us into.
- 1:05Speaker 4: The fall season. If do with that, I didn't know that, yep.
- 1:07Speaker 2: And so fall you all for those open north, Yes,
- 1:11Speaker 2: so fall you all would be How you deconjunct?
- 1:15Speaker 4: That thing?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Is that what it is?
- 1:17Speaker 2: No, it's not a conjunction. What's the call when you
- 1:18Speaker 2: put a comment something sounds conjunction?
- 1:21Speaker 3: Is it?
- 1:21Speaker 4: I thought conjunctions were ambu or or I'm just wondering
- 1:24Speaker 4: what their function is.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So there's a lot going on in the deer woods
- 1:29Speaker 2: right now, and one of the big things is that
- 1:32Speaker 2: deer seasons are opening up in a lot of places.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You know, there's there's quite a few spots around this
- 1:36Speaker 2: country that it just has around the first of October
- 1:40Speaker 2: that's the opening day of archery season, and that's a
- 1:42Speaker 2: lot of fun for us, and that's where we live too.
- 1:44Speaker 4: But there's more and more seasons open up around the country,
- 1:46Speaker 4: and you go from.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Having to travel eight to ten hours to find an
- 1:50Speaker 2: open season to being able to travel three to four.
- 1:52Speaker 2: So it puts a lot of deer hunting in a
- 1:53Speaker 2: lot of grasp for a lot of people, which makes
- 1:57Speaker 2: it even more intriguing to figure out what's going on
- 1:59Speaker 2: around the count tree. And I can tell you this
- 2:03Speaker 2: food seems to be the thing. A lot of people
- 2:06Speaker 2: this week remarked about food sources and how they're hunting
- 2:09Speaker 2: around that. You know, I think people want to focus
- 2:14Speaker 2: on sign a lot, and sometimes sign is hard to
- 2:18Speaker 2: interpret early season, it's hard to even find it, huh, Tyler.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure, it is one thing de you're not
- 2:25Speaker 5: traveling that far to get to food sources, usually when
- 2:29Speaker 5: it's hot and early, so they're not laying down a
- 2:32Speaker 5: bunch of sign on trails, they're not passing by a
- 2:35Speaker 5: bunch of trees to rub on. They don't really care
- 2:37Speaker 5: to rub a whole lot because they're testosterone is still
- 2:40Speaker 5: pretty low. They will hit licking branches here and there,
- 2:44Speaker 5: but you won't be able to see the scrapes still
- 2:46Speaker 5: in a lot of cases because they don't actually do
- 2:49Speaker 5: the palling and peeing part of that whole deal a
- 2:52Speaker 5: lot of times. And in fact, a few years ago
- 2:57Speaker 5: case found on some public in Illinois found a you know,
- 3:01Speaker 5: annually used you know, perennial scrape and it was the
- 3:09Speaker 5: it was still open underneath because it had been hit
- 3:11Speaker 5: so hard the year before, but it wasn't really being
- 3:14Speaker 5: used underneath. It was just being licked on. And we
- 3:16Speaker 5: put a truck camera on it and got some video
- 3:18Speaker 5: of deer and nothing really scraped until October. So there's
- 3:22Speaker 5: just they're just not laying down much sign right now.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So so finding food is a big deal, and it
- 3:29Speaker 2: is the fall And I don't know if it's why
- 3:32Speaker 2: it's called that or not, but things start falling from
- 3:34Speaker 2: the trees, both leaves and more importantly for us deer hunters,
- 3:38Speaker 2: acorns or acorns or is there another way that people
- 3:41Speaker 2: say it too auckrons or something.
- 3:43Speaker 4: I don't know, but I hope not on onions. That's a
- 3:47Speaker 4: big thing for a lot of popes that right now.
- 3:51Speaker 2: And I know around here we were eyes out doing
- 3:53Speaker 2: a little TSI on my property yesterday and.
- 3:59Speaker 5: Is there like, uh, it's not crime scene investigation, but
- 4:02Speaker 5: it's like.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Timber scene investigation. Okay, So.
- 4:08Speaker 2: There was already some red oak acorns falling. Now they're
- 4:11Speaker 2: the wormy acrens, so it's like a false fall, but
- 4:14Speaker 2: it's still potentially a food source if the deer are
- 4:17Speaker 2: in rough shape. Thankfully, around here we've had just enough
- 4:20Speaker 2: rain to increase a little a little bit of some
- 4:23Speaker 2: of herbaceous growth. In fact, Greg was with me and
- 4:27Speaker 2: he found a beauty berry that had a lot of
- 4:30Speaker 2: brows on it. Really uh huh, you know you like
- 4:32Speaker 2: to hate on your beauty bearry.
- 4:33Speaker 5: I hate they eat they're such they're actually really pretty
- 4:37Speaker 5: this time of year they are, and they feed the
- 4:38Speaker 5: birds well, so they've got uses. But as far as
- 4:41Speaker 5: deer deer go, I just don't. I don't see them
- 4:45Speaker 5: coming into use a whole lot.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Well, my dear, the uh but my deer a weird,
- 4:50Speaker 2: so you guess some weird Yeah, but I think that's
- 4:56Speaker 2: kind of the big thing if especially if you're hunting
- 4:58Speaker 2: public land, because often times, even if you're map scouting
- 5:01Speaker 2: and looking at a large piece of public and you're
- 5:05Speaker 2: looking at like a bed to feed this time of year,
- 5:09Speaker 2: a lot of people can look at the same map
- 5:10Speaker 2: and figure out, Okay, that's a nag field. I'm gonna
- 5:13Speaker 2: set up near that and try to kill those deer
- 5:16Speaker 2: if you can go in and interpret.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Sign if you can find it.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But even more so where food is in the trees,
- 5:24Speaker 2: in the thickets, then you have a chance to actually
- 5:26Speaker 2: see a deer in daylight, which is hard this time
- 5:28Speaker 2: of year, right, Tyler.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Yeah, daylight deer, they can be hard this time of year. Wow,
- 5:34Speaker 4: what a nice rhyme. I'm a little Limerick today, man.
- 5:37Speaker 5: I got the rhymes, I got the alliteration and all
- 5:40Speaker 5: the stuff going on. Yeah, they can be tough, man.
- 5:44Speaker 5: I don't really particularly love this time of year. If
- 5:50Speaker 5: the weather's kind of stagnant, but coming up in the
- 5:52Speaker 5: next week or so, things will change. But I know,
- 5:55Speaker 5: you know a lot of times too, depends on where
- 5:58Speaker 5: you're at in the country. Because for us here where
- 6:01Speaker 5: we're at, it's still like we got a cold front
- 6:03Speaker 5: and I walked outside a second ago and it's still
- 6:06Speaker 5: just hot.
- 6:07Speaker 4: So it is, man.
- 6:08Speaker 2: There is some some weather systems we've around the country,
- 6:10Speaker 2: So we're gonna ask a few folks about that, depending
- 6:12Speaker 2: on you know, what's going on out there. We have
- 6:15Speaker 2: a hurricane that's brewing in the Gulf that might kind
- 6:18Speaker 2: of effect.
- 6:21Speaker 4: How dear moving around what better?
- 6:25Speaker 2: Uh, But we're all still looking forward to better days.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So I would say just as a general thought, I
- 6:32Speaker 2: wasn't get too excited and burn PTO just yet, right, Tyler.
- 6:35Speaker 4: That's right, man, Yeah, that's right. Well, who we got
- 6:37Speaker 4: this week?
- 6:38Speaker 2: We've got Jeff Danker in Kansas of Buck Ventures. We've
- 6:42Speaker 2: got Jeff Altoff in Wisconsin. He killed a giant buck there.
- 6:46Speaker 2: He's of Love the Grind TV, Michael Pitt's Real Tree
- 6:49Speaker 2: down there in Georgia hunting them Georgia bucks. And then
- 6:51Speaker 2: Rob Mendoza of Tethered he's been hunting in Missouri. So
- 6:56Speaker 2: let's see what they got to say, all.
- 6:58Speaker 5: Right, I've got Jeff Danker from Buck Ventures on the
- 7:00Speaker 5: phone right now. Jeff has had some success out in Kansas. Jeff,
- 7:05Speaker 5: how's it going, Man.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Oh man, it's good.
- 7:07Speaker 3: It's good.
- 7:08Speaker 4: We're out here right now.
- 7:09Speaker 6: And you know, idea is, we've been waiting on this
- 7:12Speaker 6: part of the year, this season, all year, and it's
- 7:15Speaker 6: finally here, and you know, it's like you're already behind.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I hear that, dude. We got a rain down
- 7:22Speaker 5: here in Texas today that we didn't know was coming.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Otherwise I ought to have had some seed on the ground,
- 7:26Speaker 5: but it surprised us, and here we go, we're behind.
- 7:30Speaker 4: You know what I mean, I know exactly.
- 7:32Speaker 6: Yeah, we were praying for rain and literally, guys, we
- 7:35Speaker 6: got two and a half inches yesterday and we hadn't
- 7:39Speaker 6: really had rain since early July out here. So we
- 7:43Speaker 6: did get seed in the ground for our fault plots,
- 7:45Speaker 6: which you know, we usually try to have them in
- 7:46Speaker 6: Labor Day, but this year just closer to October than
- 7:49Speaker 6: that night September first.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Yep, yep, I hear you on that.
- 7:53Speaker 5: Well, so you shot a door recently and you it
- 7:56Speaker 5: is pretty unique experience for you talk about that real week.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Well, if you when you see the footage, you'll see
- 8:03Speaker 6: that I got more excited than a lot of big
- 8:05Speaker 6: bucks I've shot. As the first dough I ever shot
- 8:08Speaker 6: and filmed myself, and being fifty two, having to wear
- 8:11Speaker 6: reader glasses and that kind of stuff, it was pretty
- 8:14Speaker 6: I felt pretty proud of myself.
- 8:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I bet man, that's cool. That's cool. Well, that's awesome.
- 8:20Speaker 5: What was she doing when when you shore it? Was
- 8:21Speaker 5: she coming to fool?
- 8:22Speaker 6: Well, kind of what we're setting up on some of
- 8:25Speaker 6: her farms is just to manage a lot of get
- 8:28Speaker 6: some doze off property. And in yea, we were. She
- 8:30Speaker 6: was actually on a cut head feed field. It's kind
- 8:34Speaker 6: of how I designed this deal, where you come in
- 8:36Speaker 6: and just you design it and then cut the head
- 8:38Speaker 6: feed and leave some of it put a blind in.
- 8:40Speaker 6: So yeah, I was just eating on grain and coming
- 8:43Speaker 6: in and just a big mature or dough and that's
- 8:47Speaker 6: what I was looking for.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Wow, that's cool, man.
- 8:49Speaker 2: So is that going to be kind of the strategy
- 8:52Speaker 2: that you employ until the rut gets here?
- 8:55Speaker 4: Or does think do things kind of shift once you
- 8:57Speaker 4: start getting those frosts? Well, I mean I ain't.
- 9:00Speaker 6: I'm the guy that I'm just steadily moving cameras looking
- 9:03Speaker 6: for deer, observing this and that, and I do like
- 9:06Speaker 6: going ahead and getting some dose done right now.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I mean, it's really become more of my targeting.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Actually, one farm this year in particular, called the Wooly
- 9:18Speaker 6: Grass just to get you know, I want to shoot
- 9:20Speaker 6: twenty five dose off of it. I can shoot five
- 9:22Speaker 6: and then I'm going to have some buddies do it
- 9:24Speaker 6: as well. But you know, I just think that is
- 9:26Speaker 6: a strategy that we're really trying to play and keep
- 9:30Speaker 6: that buck to dough ratio at least around two and
- 9:32Speaker 6: a half three to one.
- 9:33Speaker 2: You know, you mentioned the drought earlier, and it sounds
- 9:36Speaker 2: like you're really working on your herd dynamics. Is the
- 9:40Speaker 2: herd pretty healthy out there? Are there any disease is
- 9:42Speaker 2: shoes that you're dealing with?
- 9:44Speaker 6: Well, it actually is, man, I'm not dealt with a lot.
- 9:47Speaker 7: I hear a lot about it.
- 9:48Speaker 6: We all do the HD blue tongue whatever. And we
- 9:51Speaker 6: found a deer dead here recently at water we've called
- 9:55Speaker 6: the Wildlife Department that's had a deformed hoof, watching a
- 10:00Speaker 6: couple of other deer that are really sick on camera
- 10:03Speaker 6: or the Wildlife Department knows about them, and basically what
- 10:06Speaker 6: they try to do is just give the deer every
- 10:08Speaker 6: chance it can because you know, at times, I'm like,
- 10:11Speaker 6: you know, talking wildlife farms, like, look, do we need
- 10:13Speaker 6: to go on and shoot this deer suffering? And they said, well,
- 10:15Speaker 6: there's a chance these deer pull out of it. So
- 10:18Speaker 6: that's what we're trying to give these deer a fighting chance,
- 10:21Speaker 6: and you know, and just hoping that it isn't wide widespread.
- 10:26Speaker 6: I just don't know how severe it is, but it
- 10:28Speaker 6: definitely is something that keeps me not sleeping good right now.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I bet man, Well that's unfortunate. I know, with
- 10:36Speaker 5: that in your mind, it's tough to look forward a
- 10:39Speaker 5: little bit sometimes. But you know, in the next week
- 10:41Speaker 5: or so, do you you kind of foresee any changing
- 10:45Speaker 5: conditions or anything that might bring some new deer around
- 10:49Speaker 5: or give more increased deer movement during daylight.
- 10:52Speaker 6: Well, so I'm a big I.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Believe in change.
- 10:56Speaker 6: I like, I don't you know, people say I just
- 10:58Speaker 6: want cold weather. Well I don't think this cold weather
- 11:00Speaker 6: does it. We've had a little dropping temperature and we
- 11:03Speaker 6: are getting new bucks. But I like it up and
- 11:07Speaker 6: down and so that's what I've been looking for, guys,
- 11:09Speaker 6: and I ain't getting it.
- 11:10Speaker 4: We got the change right now, and we got a
- 11:13Speaker 4: cooler temperature.
- 11:14Speaker 6: But if you really watch a barmeter right now, it's
- 11:16Speaker 6: not doing a lot. It's just holding when you get
- 11:19Speaker 6: past thirty. And so my prediction is if it will
- 11:24Speaker 6: get here. I mean, I'm looking ahead the October first,
- 11:27Speaker 6: and looks like we're gonna Bromer's gonna get up a
- 11:28Speaker 6: little bit and a little more higher pressure, and again
- 11:32Speaker 6: we will start to see new bucks.
- 11:35Speaker 3: More and more.
- 11:36Speaker 6: But I am so trying to look, you know, every day,
- 11:40Speaker 6: just hitting that fifteen day forecast and trying to see
- 11:42Speaker 6: if that barometer is gonna move, and it just as
- 11:44Speaker 6: a guys, it's going to be you know, it's like
- 11:46Speaker 6: twenty nine point seven eight and just holding right there.
- 11:51Speaker 3: I hear you.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Well, if you had to put a number on buck
- 11:55Speaker 5: movement in the next week, we'll scale of one to ten.
- 11:57Speaker 5: What would you say, You.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Know, that's a loaded question. I'll say this.
- 12:03Speaker 6: You know a farm that someone's out there, guys, that
- 12:06Speaker 6: isn't putting pressure on it, and you know it's in
- 12:10Speaker 6: a sense just not being messed with I think you're
- 12:12Speaker 6: gonna have some decent buck movement. But just because we
- 12:14Speaker 6: do have this change, and you know, it was a
- 12:17Speaker 6: hundred and something degrees five six days ago. You know
- 12:21Speaker 6: today is a high of sixty six, and it's gonna
- 12:25Speaker 6: get back in the eighties. So I do predict that
- 12:27Speaker 6: there will be some good buck movement now again, you know,
- 12:30Speaker 6: you get on that farm that's been messed with too
- 12:32Speaker 6: much and it's just gonna be like anything, and you
- 12:35Speaker 6: won't have that buck movement. But I think if someone's
- 12:38Speaker 6: doing it right out there, they can look forward to
- 12:40Speaker 6: the next week and have some pretty good hunt.
- 12:43Speaker 4: All right. So scale of one to ten, what do
- 12:45Speaker 4: you think.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Scale of one to ten, I'm gonna probably still be
- 12:50Speaker 6: in the six and a half to seven something like
- 12:52Speaker 6: that on buck movements.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I like it. I like it cool.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Man.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Well, I hope that the Lord's blessing is with you
- 12:58Speaker 5: this year, man, and I appreciate you coming on and
- 13:01Speaker 5: giving us support.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Jeff, I appreciate you guys as always. This is Jeff
- 13:07Speaker 4: Altough with Love the Grind TV.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Jeff, you've been hunting in Wisconsin, You're headed at Kansas.
- 13:13Speaker 4: Life is good into your season, man, how are you.
- 13:17Speaker 8: I'm good, I mean, and I tell you what, it's
- 13:19Speaker 8: a little bit, you know, still.
- 13:22Speaker 7: Riding the high from my Wisconsin hunting has been celebrating
- 13:26Speaker 7: for quite a few.
- 13:27Speaker 8: Days and then a big Kansas buck decided to show up.
- 13:31Speaker 8: So I'm riding that high from the upper Midwest down
- 13:36Speaker 8: to the plains Midwest right now and hopes of trying
- 13:39Speaker 8: to do it again.
- 13:40Speaker 4: That's cool.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, man, you killed a hammer there in Wisconsin, so
- 13:44Speaker 2: congratulations on that. And it sounds like to me, at
- 13:46Speaker 2: least just from what you just said, that that trail
- 13:48Speaker 2: cameras can and probably are a big part of your
- 13:51Speaker 2: strategy on that stuff.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Huh.
- 13:53Speaker 8: Yeah, they're a big part of our strategy, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 8: just as much when to hunt, but also you know
- 13:59Speaker 8: when not to hunt as well. We you know, we
- 14:01Speaker 8: don't have a ton of really big pieces that we
- 14:05Speaker 8: have or hunt, so staying out as you know, just
- 14:08Speaker 8: as as much, just as important as you.
- 14:11Speaker 7: Know when to go in.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Absolutely, And I know it's from the pictures of that
- 14:14Speaker 2: big dear that it looked like there were some food
- 14:17Speaker 2: plot stuff incorporated. Have you all been working hard with
- 14:21Speaker 2: you know, adding food to properties and is that a
- 14:23Speaker 2: big part of your strategy.
- 14:24Speaker 8: Yeah, that's kind of our m O, right as the
- 14:27Speaker 8: preparation that leads into the hunt.
- 14:28Speaker 7: That way, when an opportunity.
- 14:30Speaker 8: Like this last week presents itself, you know, we're in
- 14:33Speaker 8: a better position to capitalize that specific plot before we
- 14:36Speaker 8: get into the actual hunt details and how that came about.
- 14:40Speaker 8: You know, just about a half acre you know, big
- 14:43Speaker 8: sexy greens brassica plot and then we've got about an
- 14:48Speaker 8: acre of corn that we actually use as a screen
- 14:52Speaker 8: to be able to get in and out. Obviously it's
- 14:54Speaker 8: a food source too, but you know we plant it
- 14:57Speaker 8: as really an ability to just get in from where
- 14:59Speaker 8: we have.
- 14:59Speaker 7: To part you know.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Sure, so and that buck came into that to that plot,
- 15:05Speaker 5: I guess, and you were able to shoot him there
- 15:07Speaker 5: or were you hunting off the plot.
- 15:08Speaker 7: Some Well, so it's interesting.
- 15:11Speaker 8: So that specific day, uh, my camera guy Connor uh
- 15:16Speaker 8: and myself we had we had plans to hunt our
- 15:19Speaker 8: Minnesota ground that evening and about six thirty in the
- 15:25Speaker 8: in the morning, our cameras got tripped and I got
- 15:29Speaker 8: pictures of this book exiting the plot on one of
- 15:34Speaker 8: our kind of perimeter cameras, and I'm like, well, that's
- 15:38Speaker 8: kind of interesting. You know, I know the farm and
- 15:40Speaker 8: deer tendancies, and you know, I definitely know that deer.
- 15:43Speaker 8: And I'm like, that's interesting the way he's walking at
- 15:46Speaker 8: that time, and I just kind of sparked my curiosity.
- 15:49Speaker 7: I was, I was a little bit slow to the.
- 15:51Speaker 8: Trigger, but a few minutes went by, and I'm like,
- 15:53Speaker 8: I'm gonna pull up my you know on X maps.
- 15:56Speaker 8: So I pull them up and I'm like, well, sure
- 15:59Speaker 8: as be. This deer is headed into just like a
- 16:02Speaker 8: tiny little ditch or a drainage, and you know, he's
- 16:07Speaker 8: edit he's heading into the tip of it. And if
- 16:10Speaker 8: you think about like a finger for example, he's heading
- 16:14Speaker 8: into like the fingernail where if you were to go
- 16:17Speaker 8: any further north, it'd be an open, wide, open egg field.
- 16:22Speaker 8: And if you would have headed any further west off
- 16:24Speaker 8: the finger, it would have been a road. And I'm like,
- 16:28Speaker 8: that time of the morning and that caliber deer and
- 16:32Speaker 8: how mature he is, I'm like, I think there's a
- 16:35Speaker 8: pretty good chance that he vetted up in that drainage ditch,
- 16:38Speaker 8: which isn't very big, and especially where he exited that plot,
- 16:42Speaker 8: there's not a lot of real estate there. So I
- 16:46Speaker 8: actually called, if you know, I did what any other
- 16:48Speaker 8: deer hunter does and calls a few buddies in their
- 16:50Speaker 8: circle to turn to chat game plans and get opinions.
- 16:54Speaker 8: And you know, we came to the conclusion that, hey,
- 16:58Speaker 8: there's a pretty good chance this deer just exited this
- 17:01Speaker 8: food plot.
- 17:02Speaker 7: Now keep in mind, this camera is faced to get.
- 17:05Speaker 8: Deer feeding, you know, head on into the food plot.
- 17:09Speaker 8: So to get a deer exiting the food plot on
- 17:11Speaker 8: this camera, that's not why that camera was set up.
- 17:13Speaker 8: Does that kind of makes sense? So to get the
- 17:17Speaker 8: deer exiting the food plot was kind of ironic.
- 17:19Speaker 7: But you know, we came to the conclusion.
- 17:22Speaker 8: That, hey, this deer is probably betted in this tiny
- 17:25Speaker 8: little drainage less than one hundred yards from where.
- 17:28Speaker 7: He exited the plot.
- 17:30Speaker 8: We've got storms rolling in that afternoon, and chances are
- 17:34Speaker 8: if he gets up on his feet, he's going to
- 17:37Speaker 8: walk exactly, he's going to go into.
- 17:39Speaker 7: That plot exactly how he exited it.
- 17:42Speaker 8: And we happened to have a ground blind up in
- 17:45Speaker 8: the corn ground level about twenty five yard where he
- 17:49Speaker 8: exited that plot. The only issue was we couldn't walk
- 17:52Speaker 8: into the plot like we normally do because where we
- 17:55Speaker 8: park and the road is right there. I mean, he
- 17:57Speaker 8: betted he would have seen us coming in long before
- 18:01Speaker 8: we would have ever got to the blind right, and
- 18:03Speaker 8: just maturity rear, they know where to bet, how to bed,
- 18:05Speaker 8: how to position themselves with the wind.
- 18:08Speaker 7: All of the things would have went wrong.
- 18:09Speaker 8: So just having that one picture and looking at the
- 18:12Speaker 8: maps allowed us to kind of formulate a secondary access plan.
- 18:17Speaker 8: So again looked at our maps and we went, oh,
- 18:22Speaker 8: I don't know, about a mile plus all the way
- 18:25Speaker 8: around in a wide open eggfield and came around the
- 18:30Speaker 8: other side just to be able to try to get
- 18:34Speaker 8: into that blind without that year knowing. So we did that,
- 18:38Speaker 8: got in clean, and yeh, thunderstorms started rolling in pretty heavy,
- 18:44Speaker 8: and we almost actually left because we've seen some lightning and.
- 18:48Speaker 7: It was rumblin pretty good.
- 18:50Speaker 8: But managed to stick it out and at about six o'clock.
- 18:55Speaker 7: Now keep in mind.
- 18:55Speaker 8: Dark there is probably about seven twenty ishes eagles shooting
- 19:00Speaker 8: or you know, end a camera laid so plenty in time.
- 19:03Speaker 7: About six o'clock I happened to peek out the.
- 19:06Speaker 8: Blind kind of down in that corner, and I've seen
- 19:09Speaker 8: him staring right at us.
- 19:10Speaker 7: Turns out he was just staring at the blind, not
- 19:12Speaker 7: at us.
- 19:12Speaker 8: But I actually thought we were busted because I happened
- 19:15Speaker 8: to peek my head out the blind at the wrong time,
- 19:18Speaker 8: you know, and so it's kind of freeze, and I
- 19:21Speaker 8: whispered Connor, and I'm like, oh shoot, I think we're busted,
- 19:24Speaker 8: like total amateur mood, picking my head out the blind,
- 19:27Speaker 8: like put in all this work, all this game plan,
- 19:30Speaker 8: and it's over. Well, miraculously, he puts his head down
- 19:34Speaker 8: and starts feeding, and I'm like, okay, we're in the chips. Well,
- 19:38Speaker 8: I get my ball, get everything situated.
- 19:40Speaker 7: He's at that time.
- 19:41Speaker 8: Twenty five yards away, ends up feeding twenty five yards
- 19:46Speaker 8: from us, quartering to us for fifteen minutes, just crushing
- 19:51Speaker 8: Brassica's putting on a show.
- 19:55Speaker 7: Super cool.
- 19:55Speaker 8: And this is all on film, by the way, we
- 19:57Speaker 8: got multiple camera angles. He's right there and just just
- 20:01Speaker 8: putting on an absolute clinic and it was fun to watch.
- 20:05Speaker 8: And I'm like, hey, whether or not I even get
- 20:07Speaker 8: a shot off at this deer because I thought he
- 20:09Speaker 8: was gonna feed right into the blind. I'm like, whether
- 20:11Speaker 8: or not I get a shot off at this deer?
- 20:13Speaker 7: This is cool? This is a win.
- 20:14Speaker 8: This is a successful hunting itself. Right, Well, he turns
- 20:19Speaker 8: broadside for a split second. I what I thought, capitalized
- 20:24Speaker 8: on that drew without him knowing.
- 20:27Speaker 7: But the second I drew, he faced quartering.
- 20:29Speaker 8: Back to me, and I'm like, I can't take this shot,
- 20:32Speaker 8: not at any deer, let alone a deer that caliber.
- 20:36Speaker 8: I was at full draw for a little over three
- 20:39Speaker 8: minutes and I'm pulling eighty five pounds, so it was
- 20:44Speaker 8: not very comfortable.
- 20:46Speaker 7: I think I maybe said a few swear.
- 20:48Speaker 8: Words to the camera, like I can't hold it anymore,
- 20:50Speaker 8: you know, expletive expletive.
- 20:53Speaker 7: Actually ended up letting.
- 20:54Speaker 8: My boat down and having to redraw and hold it again.
- 21:00Speaker 8: And finally he turned just enough where I had about
- 21:04Speaker 8: a six inch gap behind his shoulder where I could
- 21:07Speaker 8: sneak it into his lungs, and he's twenty five yards
- 21:09Speaker 8: away ground level feeding, and I felt really comfortable taking
- 21:14Speaker 8: that shot. So I took that shot, and he probably
- 21:18Speaker 8: went all seventy or eighty yards and ironically enough, ended
- 21:22Speaker 8: up dying in what I feel is the bet that
- 21:25Speaker 8: he was in.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Really, man, how about that? That's incredible, dude. Do you
- 21:29Speaker 5: think in the next week, do you think that if
- 21:33Speaker 5: you were to hunt in Wisconsin there again, that those
- 21:36Speaker 5: Brasicas would still be the thing to do, or would
- 21:38Speaker 5: things change in the next week or so.
- 21:40Speaker 8: Honestly, we've been doing this so we run all sorts
- 21:44Speaker 8: of plots. We run our you know, Ryan Old's plots,
- 21:47Speaker 8: we run brassicas, we run radishes, we run our.
- 21:50Speaker 7: Corn or soybeans.
- 21:51Speaker 8: And what I'll tell you is it's based on the weather,
- 21:54Speaker 8: what's around, what you know, farm fields have to offer.
- 21:58Speaker 8: That particular spot, soybeans in the area had already yellowed,
- 22:05Speaker 8: so they had kind of transitioned to a green food
- 22:08Speaker 8: source because it's either you know, natural brows, acorns, et cetera,
- 22:13Speaker 8: or it's you know, finding something green or a hayfield.
- 22:16Speaker 7: Right, it's pretty warm out that day.
- 22:18Speaker 8: So that particular spot, I think that they're gonna be
- 22:21Speaker 8: on Brassica's for a little bit longer, until it gets
- 22:25Speaker 8: even colder, and then they're not gonna leave Brasca's, but
- 22:27Speaker 8: they're gonna have their choice between you know, soybean pods
- 22:31Speaker 8: and Brassica's.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 22:34Speaker 2: So with the the concept of maybe a waning moon
- 22:40Speaker 2: involved with that, and in still you know, the beans
- 22:43Speaker 2: being yellow over the next week, do you do you
- 22:46Speaker 2: feel like buck movement is going to be good?
- 22:49Speaker 4: And then how would you rate it on a scale
- 22:51Speaker 4: of one to ten.
- 22:53Speaker 7: So, honestly, buck movement.
- 22:57Speaker 8: You know, we've got access to quite a few properties,
- 22:59Speaker 8: We're on a lot of cameras, We've planned a lot
- 23:01Speaker 8: of plots, so we've got a pretty good sample size.
- 23:04Speaker 7: And I would say overall deer movement.
- 23:08Speaker 8: Was really strong in the days leading up in the
- 23:11Speaker 8: days following my hunt, overall mature buck movement, I would
- 23:16Speaker 8: say I didn't I didn't notice a material difference.
- 23:19Speaker 7: I think the.
- 23:22Speaker 8: Hand that we were delts was just how lucky we
- 23:25Speaker 8: were to be able to see where he betted.
- 23:28Speaker 7: You know, take a look.
- 23:29Speaker 8: At our topography maps, no dear's tendencies know that, hey,
- 23:34Speaker 8: that's a mature buck. He's probably not going to go
- 23:35Speaker 8: another half mile at first light in the morning in September.
- 23:39Speaker 8: So I think I think where he chose to bed
- 23:44Speaker 8: is kind of what gave us the advantage of that hunt.
- 23:49Speaker 8: But you know, I don't have a lot of other
- 23:52Speaker 8: mature bucks, especially that caliber, that are just daylighting right
- 23:56Speaker 8: now we're leading up to the hunt, or we're following
- 23:59Speaker 8: the hunt, I think I think we got to get
- 24:01Speaker 8: to that first true October cold front or you know,
- 24:06Speaker 8: get a little closer to win bucks are really really
- 24:09Speaker 8: hitting scrapes to see those five and six year old bucks,
- 24:13Speaker 8: you know, consistently daylighting, right.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
- 24:15Speaker 2: So on a scale of one to team, what do
- 24:17Speaker 2: you think the next week.
- 24:18Speaker 8: Will be, I'm gonna put that at about a five
- 24:23Speaker 8: or a six for the next week.
- 24:24Speaker 7: And that's all things considered.
- 24:26Speaker 8: That's that's weather, that's moon phase, that's you know, overall
- 24:31Speaker 8: deer inventory for what I'm looking at, how they're operating,
- 24:35Speaker 8: what's happening in egg fields around us, stuff like that.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's still pretty good hunting, especially for
- 24:41Speaker 2: septimber Man. So I think that that's that sounds like
- 24:44Speaker 2: a great report dude, to really appreciate it, and I
- 24:47Speaker 2: hope you find some success out there in Kansas as well.
- 24:51Speaker 7: Thank your fingers across.
- 24:53Speaker 8: And if I happen to get an arrow in the
- 24:55Speaker 8: deer that I'm hunting tonight, I have a feeling We're
- 24:58Speaker 8: going to be doing this again.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Awesome, dude.
- 25:17Speaker 2: I've got Michael Pitts. He's been doing some hunting in
- 25:19Speaker 2: Georgia with the Real Tree Crew. How you doing, man?
- 25:23Speaker 3: Doing good? How about y'all?
- 25:25Speaker 4: We're doing awesome.
- 25:26Speaker 2: It's cool off a little bit around here, which makes
- 25:28Speaker 2: us all think about deer hunting.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Now. I know you're a kind of.
- 25:31Speaker 2: More east of where we're at there in Georgia, But
- 25:33Speaker 2: have y'all been experiencing some of this cool front?
- 25:36Speaker 9: Yeah, we've got a cool front actually opening We came
- 25:40Speaker 9: in on the fourteenth and opening week was pretty cool,
- 25:44Speaker 9: but we've heated back up again and then we got
- 25:48Speaker 9: a hurricane coming through. Should be here really towards the
- 25:52Speaker 9: end of the Thursday, and temperatures are dropping with it.
- 25:54Speaker 9: It looks like temperatures are going to kind of stay
- 25:58Speaker 9: low from then to own. Hopefully we'll be out of
- 26:00Speaker 9: these heat waves. But it was like ninety three ninety
- 26:04Speaker 9: four yesterdays, ninety one today of a high, So we're
- 26:08Speaker 9: back in that heat spell. But hopefully it's not gonna
- 26:11Speaker 9: last much longer. We'll get that cool weather in here.
- 26:13Speaker 2: I bet you you know, at least throughout your life,
- 26:16Speaker 2: you've had some years where hurricanes definitely kind of affect
- 26:19Speaker 2: deer season.
- 26:20Speaker 4: How do deer react after them? Big storm events like that.
- 26:24Speaker 9: You know, I've never paid a whole lot of attention
- 26:27Speaker 9: to it because they are kind of few and far between.
- 26:30Speaker 9: But you know, typically in bed bad weather, a lot
- 26:34Speaker 9: of these deer will kind of hunk her down and
- 26:35Speaker 9: ride it out. But on the front side and back
- 26:39Speaker 9: side of it, it's almost like the deer can sense,
- 26:42Speaker 9: you know, bad weather or whatever, and they get on
- 26:45Speaker 9: their feet. So lots of times before storm can be
- 26:49Speaker 9: some really good good hunting because it's almost like they
- 26:52Speaker 9: try to stock up to weather the storm outs.
- 26:55Speaker 4: So on the front side can be pretty good pits
- 26:58Speaker 4: of the acorns falling.
- 26:59Speaker 9: Yet they're starting right now and that's starting to create
- 27:04Speaker 9: a transition. You know, around us it's legal debate, so
- 27:11Speaker 9: you know a lot of people run corn piles or
- 27:13Speaker 9: protein feed or whatnot around us. And what you'll see
- 27:18Speaker 9: during this transition phases, they'll start pullingto these oak bottoms
- 27:22Speaker 9: and these acrens and all and actually leaving the other
- 27:25Speaker 9: food sources. So we're getting a lot of them starting
- 27:29Speaker 9: to drop right now. Squirrels are cutting them down pretty good,
- 27:32Speaker 9: and they're starting to drop on their own a little
- 27:34Speaker 9: bit right now. So we're about to see a transition
- 27:38Speaker 9: for sure as far as the deer movement goes, because
- 27:40Speaker 9: they'll be pulling to those acres. That's one of their
- 27:44Speaker 9: favorite food sources.
- 27:45Speaker 7: In my opinion.
- 27:46Speaker 5: Sure, do you prefer white oaks or red oaks?
- 27:52Speaker 9: White around us tends to be the ticket. It's like
- 27:57Speaker 9: a dessert to them. So I'm always looking for for sure.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Are the bucks split up from their bachelor groups or
- 28:04Speaker 2: are they still running together.
- 28:05Speaker 9: They're still running together a little bit right now. Of course,
- 28:10Speaker 9: about three weeks ago we still had deer and velvet,
- 28:14Speaker 9: so you know they're still bachelorred up and not seeing
- 28:19Speaker 9: a whole I'm seeing some scrapes, but I think they're
- 28:24Speaker 9: more it's not a rut activity scrape. It's more of
- 28:29Speaker 9: a communication scrape, I believe. And you're seeing some trees
- 28:33Speaker 9: rubbed just from getting the velvet off. There's really no
- 28:36Speaker 9: sign of rut activity right now because we're kind of
- 28:39Speaker 9: on that pattern with the Midwest where it's the first
- 28:42Speaker 9: week in Novemberville, so everything's kind of still bachelorred up
- 28:48Speaker 9: and just mainly hammer and seed right now.
- 28:51Speaker 4: That is, how are you just in your hunts? According
- 28:53Speaker 4: those acrens and stuff.
- 28:54Speaker 9: You're definitely gonna have to pull to the hardwoods to
- 28:57Speaker 9: get into them.
- 28:58Speaker 4: And it's a good isn't a bad thing.
- 29:01Speaker 9: If you've got a lot of acrons on the ground,
- 29:03Speaker 9: it can work against you a little bit because they
- 29:05Speaker 9: just kind of get out there and meander and those
- 29:08Speaker 9: oak bottoms and they don't follow a really consistent trail.
- 29:13Speaker 9: And I've always said in the past, you know, the
- 29:16Speaker 9: first two weeks the season are crucial because after those
- 29:19Speaker 9: first two weeks, if you don't have a buck on
- 29:21Speaker 9: the ground, lots of times just the rut before you
- 29:24Speaker 9: see them again, because once they figure out deer seasons
- 29:28Speaker 9: in they'll start, you know, going a little bit more nocturnal.
- 29:33Speaker 9: We call it the October lull around us based on
- 29:37Speaker 9: you know, when our rut is and all. So if
- 29:40Speaker 9: you don't get them there in those first two weeks,
- 29:42Speaker 9: lots of times it's late October first week in November
- 29:44Speaker 9: before you see those mature bucks back out there in daylight.
- 29:48Speaker 5: So based off the weather and they can just start
- 29:51Speaker 5: to drop and that transition that's happening. What do you
- 29:54Speaker 5: think buck movement will be like in the next week
- 29:56Speaker 5: or two. On a scale of one to ten.
- 29:59Speaker 9: I'm say buck movement next week is gonna be on
- 30:03Speaker 9: the scale of about a six, okay, just because they
- 30:07Speaker 9: know seasons in and they're gonna go nocturnal for a
- 30:11Speaker 9: little while. They'll be feeding a lot in these oak bottoms,
- 30:15Speaker 9: but a lot of it's gonna be done at night,
- 30:17Speaker 9: and they kind of go into that.
- 30:20Speaker 10: You know.
- 30:21Speaker 9: I know we're not in October yet, but that October
- 30:25Speaker 9: lowl will start in late September.
- 30:27Speaker 4: Let's just say that I got you. I got you.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Amazing, man.
- 30:31Speaker 2: The hunters hit the woods and them there definitely low
- 30:33Speaker 2: it up, don't they.
- 30:35Speaker 9: They figure it out real quick what's going on, and
- 30:38Speaker 9: they'll start first pushing more nocturnal.
- 30:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Cool. So you appreciate the report, man.
- 30:44Speaker 2: It sounds like you're you're honed in on them, and
- 30:46Speaker 2: I know that you'll find a couple of biggings for
- 30:49Speaker 2: seasons over.
- 30:49Speaker 4: So thanks so much.
- 30:50Speaker 7: Man.
- 30:50Speaker 9: Well, I've already got one in the bag.
- 30:53Speaker 4: I didn't know that or did you kill that, dear?
- 30:55Speaker 4: I killed it in Harris County, George. How about that? Man?
- 30:58Speaker 4: Look at you? Yep.
- 30:59Speaker 9: So I've only got one more tag left in here
- 31:02Speaker 9: here in Georgia, so probably gonna save it towards the rut.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I hear you, fellow.
- 31:09Speaker 2: This is Rob Mendoza with Tethered. He's been hunting down
- 31:12Speaker 2: in Missouri. Rob, what's up, bro?
- 31:16Speaker 7: Not much?
- 31:16Speaker 4: What's going on?
- 31:17Speaker 3: Hey, dude?
- 31:18Speaker 2: Just you know, actually having fomo because I haven't hunted
- 31:21Speaker 2: white tail deer yet this year and all these people
- 31:24Speaker 2: are getting to go to all these cool states like
- 31:25Speaker 2: Missouri and go hunting deer and I'm just living vicariously.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Man. How's Missouri?
- 31:31Speaker 3: Uh?
- 31:32Speaker 11: Missouri is always a good time.
- 31:34Speaker 10: Deer in the truck or no deer this time unfortunately
- 31:37Speaker 10: no deer, but for my first six for the season.
- 31:40Speaker 11: It was just nice to be out in those woods.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Yeah. So tell me, are you hunting a lot of
- 31:47Speaker 2: agriculture right now?
- 31:49Speaker 4: Or is the acron's already falling? Or kind of what's
- 31:51Speaker 4: what's the play?
- 31:52Speaker 10: So the spot that I was hunting in Missouri is
- 31:54Speaker 10: a farm, but it's not an ag farm. It's got
- 31:57Speaker 10: some hayfields. But for the most part this time year,
- 32:00Speaker 10: what I'm really keyed in on is the acorns dropping.
- 32:03Speaker 10: And it was nice because a lot of them dropped
- 32:05Speaker 10: last year, so they were really isolated this year.
- 32:09Speaker 5: What kind of acorns are you key on on this
- 32:13Speaker 5: farm in particular, are white oaks this time of year
- 32:16Speaker 5: and then later in the year.
- 32:17Speaker 10: You know, and they're looking for that late season food
- 32:20Speaker 10: source and just kind of picking clean the red.
- 32:21Speaker 11: Oaks, but this year mostly just focused on white.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Do those hayfields attract dear? They have stuff in there
- 32:28Speaker 5: that deer will feed in they.
- 32:30Speaker 10: I mean, the deer will go out there and feed,
- 32:32Speaker 10: but it's not typically you're not going to get a
- 32:34Speaker 10: mature butt going out into the hayfields, not in the
- 32:37Speaker 10: area I'm hunting around that time, because there's a lot
- 32:39Speaker 10: of pressure from neighboring farms.
- 32:41Speaker 11: So they typically like the stage up in the woods.
- 32:44Speaker 11: And definitely had a little bit different activity.
- 32:47Speaker 10: Going on last week than I have had in years past.
- 32:50Speaker 5: So what how do you how do you pick the
- 32:54Speaker 5: right oak tree? We get this question a lot.
- 32:57Speaker 10: Well, I went out there early season to kind of
- 32:59Speaker 10: see which trees were going to be dropping. You can
- 33:03Speaker 10: kind of tell by how the leaves are sitting, and
- 33:06Speaker 10: they just look the limbs look a bit weighted, more
- 33:09Speaker 10: weighted down. And then I just go out early morning
- 33:12Speaker 10: and I listen. I had a nice breeze kicking off
- 33:15Speaker 10: the first day I was there, so I just took
- 33:17Speaker 10: a little walk around the property towards areas. Listen, and
- 33:20Speaker 10: if I heard stuff dropping, I knew that was gonna
- 33:22Speaker 10: be a spot I was going to key on, key
- 33:24Speaker 10: in on later in the week.
- 33:26Speaker 4: That's pretty cool.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I've never heard anybody say that, but it makes a
- 33:29Speaker 2: lot of sense, and it might be one of the
- 33:30Speaker 2: hottest tips we've had on here so far.
- 33:32Speaker 4: So way to go.
- 33:34Speaker 11: Yeah, call me hot tip Mendoza.
- 33:37Speaker 4: Really, that's cool.
- 33:38Speaker 2: So it sounds like you have some history on this property.
- 33:44Speaker 2: How much does like historical data play into your moves
- 33:46Speaker 2: early season?
- 33:48Speaker 10: So for early season, I don't have much historical data
- 33:51Speaker 10: going on in that area, and I only just started
- 33:54Speaker 10: running cameras last year. Before I was always kind of
- 33:57Speaker 10: just mobile hunting on public land and maybe throw a
- 34:00Speaker 10: camera off while I was in that area for that hunt.
- 34:04Speaker 11: But this year I came into this.
- 34:06Speaker 10: Property and I set up a handful of cameras early on,
- 34:11Speaker 10: and my tactic was a.
- 34:12Speaker 11: Lot different than I thought. I thought I was just going.
- 34:14Speaker 10: To go for the evening hunts for the most part,
- 34:16Speaker 10: but what I noticed is there was a lot more
- 34:19Speaker 10: midday activity, even on days when it was ninety degrees out,
- 34:23Speaker 10: So that's when I put the majority of my focus
- 34:26Speaker 10: was being out there just after when I thought they were.
- 34:30Speaker 11: Going to bed, avoiding those betting.
- 34:32Speaker 10: Areas, but then getting in between the feed tree and
- 34:35Speaker 10: where their betting areas were as long as the wind
- 34:37Speaker 10: was right. And it didn't work out every single day
- 34:40Speaker 10: as far as see and deer. You know, you can't
- 34:42Speaker 10: control the wind, unfortunately, but I was consistently getting bucks
- 34:46Speaker 10: hitting this one particular spot anywhere from noon until three
- 34:51Speaker 10: o'clock in the afternoon, and also focusing on wind shifts.
- 34:56Speaker 10: I had a handful of days where the wind shift
- 34:59Speaker 10: in midday, so setting up on that off wind and
- 35:04Speaker 10: just hoping to catch them in transition. I did see
- 35:07Speaker 10: some immature box, some two three year olds, but not
- 35:10Speaker 10: the one that I was.
- 35:11Speaker 11: Really key on getting after.
- 35:13Speaker 4: So, Robot, you call yourself a morning person.
- 35:17Speaker 11: As far as hunting goes, just in life, hmmm, yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 11: I got two kids under three years old.
- 35:24Speaker 10: Man, I'm awake every minute of the day kind of person.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Good, Okay. So I've heard some people in the past
- 35:33Speaker 2: emphasize arriving later in the morning, and sometimes that correlates
- 35:37Speaker 2: with people who like to sleep late. And I wanted
- 35:40Speaker 2: to just test your honesty a little bit on the
- 35:44Speaker 2: later morning thing. But it's sincere, so you'd be up.
- 35:47Speaker 2: But it's it's there is really a an emphasis on
- 35:50Speaker 2: being there for the midday movement, which is cool, and
- 35:52Speaker 2: I've seen the same thing sometimes, especially it seems like
- 35:55Speaker 2: this time of year the deer are very much on
- 35:58Speaker 2: that like five feed and bed instances throughout the day,
- 36:03Speaker 2: you know, so you see that like the two or
- 36:06Speaker 2: three daylight movements. And I don't know, man, I don't
- 36:10Speaker 2: hardly ever try to capitalize on that midday thing too much,
- 36:14Speaker 2: but I think it's interesting that you saw like Bucks
- 36:16Speaker 2: doing that while you were there.
- 36:18Speaker 10: Yeah, I was pretty surprised by it too, And I
- 36:21Speaker 10: don't know if it was just something that was out
- 36:24Speaker 10: of the ordinary for this time of year, or if
- 36:27Speaker 10: that says how they behaved because I've never ran cameras before,
- 36:30Speaker 10: so I was never really up to date on what
- 36:32Speaker 10: those Bucks were doing midday on that property. So I'd
- 36:36Speaker 10: be interested to test that theory out over here in
- 36:38Speaker 10: New York a little bit this season.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Would you change the way that you hunted if you
- 36:44Speaker 5: were back in Missouri this week.
- 36:47Speaker 11: Yes, I would. I would one hope that I had
- 36:53Speaker 11: a different wind.
- 36:54Speaker 10: The wind was definitely working against me this season or
- 36:57Speaker 10: this season, this early season, but I think that I
- 37:01Speaker 10: would focus a little bit more on the midday hunt.
- 37:05Speaker 11: Then I gave it credit for this year.
- 37:07Speaker 10: I saw that there was something to it, but I
- 37:10Speaker 10: wasn't sure if it was just an anomaly. But even
- 37:13Speaker 10: since then, my cameras have still been going off midday.
- 37:16Speaker 10: I might try to pick a different feed tree.
- 37:19Speaker 11: I got a little bit.
- 37:20Speaker 10: Married to the spot that I was at, So I've
- 37:24Speaker 10: been told that happens when you're running cameras.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I can for sure I got you.
- 37:29Speaker 5: So in the next week, if you had to rate
- 37:31Speaker 5: book movement on a scale of one to ten, what
- 37:33Speaker 5: would you think.
- 37:35Speaker 11: Oh, I put it in a solid six to seven.
- 37:38Speaker 10: At my spot in southern Missouri, at least if anybody's
- 37:42Speaker 10: in that area. The heat honestly doesn't seem to be
- 37:46Speaker 10: messing with them all too much.
- 37:48Speaker 4: It's like almost the South, you know what I mean.
- 37:52Speaker 11: It's almost the South. I think that's what they call
- 37:54Speaker 11: it in the in the books.
- 37:56Speaker 4: Anyway. Yeah, that's right.
- 37:57Speaker 5: Well, I appreciate the report, man, and I hope that
- 38:00Speaker 5: you get them next time. You get down there in Missouri,
- 38:03Speaker 5: me too.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Good luck everybody, man.
- 38:06Speaker 2: We actually have some fairly optimistic hunters on our hands
- 38:09Speaker 2: around here. Yeah, I think that the scoring system is
- 38:12Speaker 2: always skewed, if I can be honest, the Midwest six,
- 38:16Speaker 2: it is Midwest sixty, but it's almost like country wide
- 38:18Speaker 2: six at this point in time.
- 38:19Speaker 4: Country must be country wide, you know what I'm saying.
- 38:20Speaker 4: Come on, So no cover route intended.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I just don't feel as if it's a six compared
- 38:28Speaker 2: to a November six. Maybe it's a six for the
- 38:32Speaker 2: last week of September, you know what I mean. We
- 38:36Speaker 2: should be more clarified on our our scale system. But yeah,
- 38:41Speaker 2: that might be true, might be a little bit more
- 38:44Speaker 2: explanatory with exactly what we're defining here. But if even
- 38:48Speaker 2: if it is just for the week of September, a
- 38:50Speaker 2: six is pretty good for last week of September, you know. So, uh,
- 38:54Speaker 2: you should be optimistic. Don't take time off. But if
- 38:58Speaker 2: you already got it, or you already got a deer,
- 39:00Speaker 2: you got patterns. Get after him this week. Speaking of
- 39:03Speaker 2: getting after it, Tyler Jones is an adventurous sort, and
- 39:09Speaker 2: he went up to North Dakota Chase Bucks around up there,
- 39:13Speaker 2: spend a little time in the.
- 39:14Speaker 4: Mud and the kayak, and.
- 39:16Speaker 5: The more you in the tree and what not to do,
- 39:18Speaker 5: the better you get it something.
- 39:20Speaker 4: Yeah, well you got you were on the bucks either way,
- 39:22Speaker 4: I guess.
- 39:23Speaker 2: So if you want to go watch that adventure, it's
- 39:25Speaker 2: on the Element YouTube channel. We'll put a link below,
- 39:27Speaker 2: as well as a link to Tony Peterson's most recent article.
- 39:31Speaker 2: It's about blood trailing deer, and I'll get you the
- 39:34Speaker 2: title here. Three blood trailing mistakes that could cost you
- 39:37Speaker 2: a buck. You don't want to lose a buck, so
- 39:40Speaker 2: go read Tony's article about that. He knows a thing
- 39:43Speaker 2: or two about tracking deer. Guys, I appreciate you all listening.
- 39:47Speaker 2: We're getting towards the best part of the year. It's
- 39:50Speaker 2: coming soon.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Be ready.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Listen to these reports, make some good decisions, and remember
- 39:57Speaker 2: this has been rough.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Fresh, keep it fresh.
- 40:00Speaker 8: S
