- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:46Hi, it's Adam here, and you're about to listen to a hypnosis
- 0:51session based on the idea of Hanlon's razor.
- 0:55And Hanlon's razor is an idea. Of.
- 1:00Basically thinking about people in such a way where you.
- 1:03Assume that rather. Than there being some kind of
- 1:07malicious or sinister motive that actually you perceive that
- 1:12people generally have kind or at least mutual motives and are
- 1:18just caught up in their own world.
- 1:22And it's based on this idea that people don't really think about
- 1:27you that much. They're not worrying about you,
- 1:30they're not out to get you, they're not trying to make you
- 1:33feel bad. They're just living their life.
- 1:36And if you can attribute either just.
- 1:41A lack of. Thinking and consideration
- 1:44rather than malice, then that is a good place to start.
- 1:48And I was working with this client who was triggered often
- 1:53into states of anger, sometimes rage, feeling provoked.
- 2:00And it entirely made sense because working with a client, I
- 2:02knew the kind of childhood they had, and they grew up in an
- 2:06environment where they were treated very unfairly and there
- 2:10were malicious motives. And what can happen is the human
- 2:15mind is very, very good at trying to survive and protect
- 2:20from bad experiences. So because those experiences
- 2:24were absolutely valid and real in their childhood, it created
- 2:29an overreaction where they would seek to defend themselves and
- 2:34seek to perfect to protect themselves even if it wasn't
- 2:37necessary or even true. There was this hyper vigilance.
- 2:42So what you're going to be hearing in this hypnosis session
- 2:45is a way of thinking about people's motives to be harmless
- 2:51or at least neutral, to give them a way of thinking about
- 2:57things differently. And also that if they do get
- 3:01triggered, they're able to think back to the thing that triggered
- 3:04them with a new meaning, a new perspective where they get to
- 3:08see that actually they could have been this completely
- 3:13different intention behind what had happened.
- 3:17And this client knew that to be true.
- 3:18There was a couple of recent examples where they were
- 3:21absolutely triggered, but then once they found out afterwards,
- 3:26there wasn't any intention to upset them or disrespect them.
- 3:30They just perceived it that way in the moment.
- 3:32So this is a hypnosis session about Hanlon's Razor and it is
- 3:38designed to give you the ability to neutralize some of those
- 3:42situations or people or things that might be triggering you
- 3:47particularly into anger or frustration.
- 3:51This was created for a very specific individual with
- 3:54specific childhood background and experiences.
- 3:57Some of the suggestions may have been perfect for them and not
- 4:00quite right for you, so if you do like the idea of working with
- 4:03me directly, check out the description and there'll be a
- 4:06link there to book a free consultation.
- 4:07Call and we'll have a chat about what it would look like to work
- 4:11together. For now though, find a quiet,
- 4:14comfortable place where you won't be disturbed.
- 4:16Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in, and as
- 5:07you breathe in, breathe in that slow, calm, relaxing breath.
- 5:14And as you exhale, just allow your eyelids to close and with
- 5:23your eyes closed, notice that you can slightly adjust your
- 5:31body to position your body in a way where relaxation is not just
- 5:38possible, but inevitable, to allow your breathing to slow to
- 5:51scan your body for any clues of tension, stress or worries.
- 6:07Breathing in that relaxation and exhaling that tension and just
- 6:17feel that with every outward breath you're becoming more and
- 6:24more relaxed. I want you to imagine a beach.
- 6:32A beach with waves that seem to be angry, Maybe the aftermath of
- 6:46a storm. Choppy waters I want.
- 6:53You to get a sands then. Sometimes your emotions can feel
- 6:58this way, unsettled, volatile. But imagine staring at the
- 7:09waves, seeing a kayak on the shore.
- 7:16And as you breathe in that relaxation and exhale that
- 7:19tension, imagine seeing the waters start to calm.
- 7:29The waves get smaller, feels like it's heading in a direction
- 7:41of more and more calm waters. As you breathe in that
- 7:48relaxation, scan your body for those clues of tension and just
- 7:53allow it to be released in your outward breath.
- 7:57And for some people, it's tightness in the jaw, perhaps
- 8:08the neck or the shoulders, perhaps around the forehead.
- 8:14And as you see those choppy waves getting calmer and calmer,
- 8:19feel that happening inside your body too.
- 8:24Breathing deeper, feeling more relaxed, quietening the mind.
- 8:32And then start to imagine calm waters on the waves, gently
- 8:46bobbing up and down. But it's the calm waters.
- 8:50Now imagine getting into that kayak and going out into the
- 8:55ocean. Notice how safe you feel on the
- 9:03calm waters, no winds, perhaps just a very light breeze.
- 9:14And as you go out, I want you to imagine seeing the fin of a
- 9:21dolphin. And as you Clark out further and
- 9:26further from shore, imagine seeing more of those dolphin.
- 9:33And I want you to notice the temperament of a dolphin.
- 9:42They are intelligent, but more often than not, they use that
- 9:47intelligence to be collaborative, playful.
- 9:56And the more you look at those dolphin, the more it activates
- 10:00those qualities within you as you feel an increasing sensation
- 10:06of relaxation on the water and just feel that being there,
- 10:16surrounded by this natural beauty and playful energy that
- 10:26your mind is taking you to a place, place where things don't
- 10:35don't need to change, but simply evolve.
- 10:43I want. You to get a sense then.
- 10:46Most beliefs are simply echoes of the past when those beliefs
- 10:52were useful. But just because something was
- 10:57useful when you were young doesn't mean they're useful
- 11:01right now. I want you to imagine carrying
- 11:09something on that kayak that is weighing you down, impeding your
- 11:15ability to enjoy. And you can choose to keep
- 11:21carrying that heavyweight or cumbersome item, or you can let
- 11:28that thing go. And as you let that thing go,
- 11:34see it sink down all the way down to the bottom of the sea,
- 11:40and notice how much lighter you feel, freer, that it's easier to
- 11:49kayak in the way that you want. Once you've let that thing go,
- 12:06that's it. Breathing in and breathing out.
- 12:11Notice even more the rhythm of your breathing, the gentle rise
- 12:16and fall a little slower, a little deeper, with each easy
- 12:25breath, and with each exhale your muscles can relax just a
- 12:33little bit more. You might even imagine a soft
- 12:44wave of calm starting at the top of your head, flowing down
- 12:51slowly over your forehead, your eyes, relaxing the tiny muscles
- 12:58around your mouth and jaw. And as the wave moves down your
- 13:04neck and shoulders, you might notice a sense of letting go, as
- 13:13though every muscle knows how to soften, how to loosen, how to
- 13:19simply relax. And then out on the calm sea,
- 13:30consider this a calm space, and allow a new understanding to
- 13:37take root, powerful, freeing realisation.
- 13:45But most people are caught up in their own worlds, thinking their
- 13:53own thoughts, carrying their own burdens.
- 14:02And more and more you will notice that these people are
- 14:07simply lost in their own world, rarely thinking about you at
- 14:12all. And that's perfectly OK.
- 14:21And every time someone behaves in a way that once felt
- 14:25personal, rude or disrespectful, you can now wonder, what else
- 14:34could this mean? Opening up a space for patience
- 14:42and for peace. And the more you relax into this
- 14:47knowing, the more you realize that most actions around you are
- 14:55not attacks or provocation or disrespect.
- 15:02They are echoes of other people's struggles and not
- 15:07reflections of your worth. And you can become curious about
- 15:15what unseen burdens others might be carrying rather than assuming
- 15:22they are focused on you and those times that you've
- 15:31triggered other people. You weren't trying to do that.
- 15:37They were echoes of your burdens and your past.
- 15:42And what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
- 15:46As you start to feel then, in all those times you've
- 15:51accidentally triggered other people, what if other people are
- 15:57accidentally triggering you? What once triggered anger could
- 16:05now trigger compassion as you recognize confusion, clumsiness,
- 16:15or fear instead of malice. Each breath helps you loosen the
- 16:22old idea that people are either against you or simply don't want
- 16:28you. Allow that belief to float away
- 16:39and instead strengthen the deeper.
- 16:41Truth. That most people are simply busy
- 16:45surviving their own story. There was a time when you were
- 16:52vulnerable, but you are safe enough now to notice that much
- 17:00of what one seemed like rejection was really
- 17:04distraction, misunderstanding, or personal chaos or clumsiness
- 17:11in other people. And even when someone's words
- 17:17are sharp or rude, you can now wonder what's going on in their
- 17:25world. How much pain must they be in to
- 17:29act that way? What if it's a reflection of
- 17:35them, not a reflection of you? What if instead of feeling
- 17:43attacked, you feel they are just giving you a glimpse into their
- 17:49inner world? They're paying their struggles
- 17:56more and more. You enjoy the freedom of not
- 18:01taking the bait, walking into battles that were never yours to
- 18:06begin with. These old patterns of defence or
- 18:14escape can be replaced with a shield of calm curiosity about
- 18:22what else could be happening. It becomes easier to remember
- 18:32most people are thinking about themselves, not plotting
- 18:38anything about you. You can accept that imperfection
- 18:47in others does not need to threaten or in fact disrupt your
- 18:56peace. You need to imagine kayaking
- 19:01near to a rocky Cove. You're in the calm waters.
- 19:09Just imagine seeing a large rock dislodge from the Cliff and
- 19:16enter the calm waters. Should the calm waters make that
- 19:28rock personal to them, just allow the rock to be the rock.
- 19:35The waters may just for a few moments feel with a few waves
- 19:46and a few movements, but very quickly the water goes back to
- 19:53being calm again. Now I want you to imagine this
- 19:59now becomes your default approach.
- 20:05Consider yourself calm waters and other people may temporarily
- 20:14affect your waters, but not for long.
- 20:21They are them, and you are you, and you can be curious.
- 20:27Why the rock fell into the water without making it all about you.
- 20:37I want you to get a sense then. The new default position will be
- 20:48either people have positive or neutral intentions but not
- 20:53malicious intentions, and you will separate intentions from
- 20:58execution. You will subscribe to the belief
- 21:03that people can have positive intentions, but execute those
- 21:11positive intentions in a clumsy, unthoughtful way.
- 21:18But you will lean towards the intention, not the execution.
- 21:25Every day your mind becomes quicker at finding positive or
- 21:29neutral or even compassionate explanations for things that you
- 21:36once took personally. And your past taught you to
- 21:42expect malice, cruelty, but your wisdom now teaches you to expect
- 21:52misunderstanding or distraction instead.
- 21:58A small smile may even come to your lips as you realise this is
- 22:03not about me. And that feels lighter every
- 22:08time. But uncertainty arises.
- 22:15Your unconscious mind can automatically remind you
- 22:20confusion, not cruelty, and you are free to interpret people's
- 22:27actions in ways that protect your peace rather than ignite
- 22:34old fires. What if your first instinct now
- 22:42becomes patience? And with patience you see things
- 22:48much more clearly. You no longer inherit other
- 22:54people's emotional storms. You can notice them like clouds
- 23:02in the sky above the ocean. They can be there, they can
- 23:07float by, and you can stay rooted in your calm centre.
- 23:14And just as clouds pass, so too do careless words, distracted
- 23:21glances, or forgotten gestures, none of which define you.
- 23:28Because you are free now. You get to choose your own
- 23:32meanings, you get to speculate on the real intentions, and
- 23:42you're free to live without those old burdens because that
- 23:47freedom belongs to you. I want you to get a sense then.
- 24:04That you can never jump to the conclusion that it is about you.
- 24:09And now going forward, it doesn't make sense to attribute
- 24:16to malice that which is adequately explained by
- 24:20stupidity or ignorance. Your unconscious will assume
- 24:27that people doing things that in the past provoked you are not
- 24:34mean and not rude, but perhaps caught up in their own worlds,
- 24:44are at worst ignorant or stupid, but not mean and not cruel as
- 24:55you allow these ideas to take root.
- 25:00Imagine kayaking back to the shore, seeing those playful
- 25:04dolphins. And how is it that those
- 25:10dolphins get to be so playful? With all of that intelligence,
- 25:19maybe they figured out that it's simply a more enjoyable life
- 25:27through calibration and playfulness rather than conflict
- 25:39and chaos. As you kayak back to the shore,
- 25:48imagine saying goodbye to those dolphins, but realising the
- 25:52version of you that returns to the shore is a different version
- 25:56of you that left out into the sea.
- 26:02And I want you to imagine someone there on the shore doing
- 26:08something that in the past would have absolutely provoked you.
- 26:15Maybe it's a look or a phrase. Maybe they're saying something
- 26:21or doing something, and notice how much easier it is now to
- 26:30find an explanation that makes it not about you.
- 26:34And if it feels, then something has shifted, something has
- 26:42changed. That you're able to attribute
- 26:49things in a new way that is opening up a doorway to a future
- 26:55of less conflict and less anger and more collaboration, a more
- 27:00understanding. Let me know by nodding your
- 27:02head. It's time to return to the
- 27:06present. You take these changes with you.
- 27:11So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 27:16nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 27:19wiggle your toes. Start to connect and calibrate
- 27:21into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 27:27awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 27:34456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
