- 0:00Speaker 1: What should we launch in show me perfect tennis?
- 0:04Speaker 2: No way.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Tennis FM. You're on with Fridgie
- 0:11Speaker 1: of the Choe, big week around the world, with all
- 0:14Speaker 1: the tennis tournaments going on, let's junk in with jod
- 0:17Speaker 1: in the tennis chopper. Sounds like you're about to spit
- 0:25Speaker 1: on Fridgie an American accent. You can try.
- 0:29Speaker 3: God damn it, Fridge. It's really high up here, and
- 0:35Speaker 3: is that good?
- 0:37Speaker 1: It's not great, but uh we already American. You are American.
- 0:43Speaker 3: American chopper guy.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Well, the Chod is a little out of practice, but
- 0:50Speaker 1: it's good to have him back. Sam Touton is back
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the studio. Everybody, no.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Security, I won't tell you into No one even looked
- 1:01Speaker 3: at me when I just came in.
- 1:02Speaker 1: How did you feel like walking through the empty grounds?
- 1:05Speaker 1: The carnival is packed up and left town.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It's really kind of made me lose respect for the
- 1:10Speaker 3: organization because it's so big when you hear during the
- 1:12Speaker 3: tournament and then now it's like no one caress and
- 1:16Speaker 3: there's nothing even to steal. These offices suck.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a parking lot out there.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it's terrible.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They pave paradise. They put up a parking lot.
- 1:24Speaker 3: That's so true. I think that's what they were talking
- 1:26Speaker 3: to Joni. Is that what she was doing?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Well, I go with the Counting Crows version.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Of course. What a band? What a band?
- 1:35Speaker 1: What a hair doo? Pineapple head himself. Speaking of music,
- 1:39Speaker 1: let's get into the number one hit of the day.
- 1:43Speaker 1: There goes Craig Tyly. Watch him as he goes.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Due always nice since finally great job with the AO.
- 2:00Speaker 3: No no no, no no no no no.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Oh so sad Craig Tyler has left us.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Left the building, and I've been allowed in. Is there
- 2:20Speaker 3: a correlation? Imagine if I'm next in line for the throne,
- 2:25Speaker 3: I can't like fathom a.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Will are you putting yourself for it?
- 2:28Speaker 3: Well? I was thinking about this on the drive in,
- 2:31Speaker 3: and I know I'm not thinking I could, like maybe
- 2:33Speaker 3: I'll get the job, but like I was like, what
- 2:35Speaker 3: is the job? Do you know what I mean? And
- 2:37Speaker 3: it's like he was a party in my head. He's
- 2:39Speaker 3: just a bit of a party guy.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I mean, remember we had a man he played stingpong
- 2:43Speaker 1: with us, drinking drinking, yes, Smiley, but.
- 2:46Speaker 3: What did he do? The Australian Open now one of
- 2:49Speaker 3: the premier sporting events in the world, and everyone's like,
- 2:52Speaker 3: what a guy, Look what he's done with the thing.
- 2:54Speaker 3: But he kind of just put in like a lot
- 2:57Speaker 3: of bars, some food stalls, got people come and enjoy
- 3:01Speaker 3: the fund, like I've hosted a house card to me,
- 3:05Speaker 3: the tennis stuff will take care of itself. Yeah, he
- 3:07Speaker 3: didn't really change anything to do with the tennis. No,
- 3:10Speaker 3: it was still what he maybe gave a few like
- 3:14Speaker 3: strategical wild cards maybe.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah. He brought Daria Kazakina over from Russia. Okay, so
- 3:22Speaker 1: now we have a top female tennis player playing for Australia.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Okay, well I could do more of that. I can do.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Do you want me to go through the Russian handbook
- 3:29Speaker 3: right now? I'll go to any country. I don't care
- 3:32Speaker 3: what it is. But you know what I mean, like
- 3:34Speaker 3: he created a party atmosphere.
- 3:36Speaker 1: We should give context. Craig, Australian Open has left. He's
- 3:41Speaker 1: going to the US.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Of all the places to try to turn.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Around the US Open. Not to say it needs turning around.
- 3:47Speaker 3: That's what I mean. It's not like I mean, it's
- 3:50Speaker 3: already the biggest kind of thing.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Okay, Well, give us your pitch. What would you do
- 3:54Speaker 1: now for the Australian Open to make it even bigger
- 3:57Speaker 1: and better? Okay, and your new role is the head
- 4:01Speaker 1: of the.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Okay, number one, I'm taking the MCG. So it's just
- 4:05Speaker 3: next door and it just sits there during the Slam week.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I don't know why we're not utilizing it rod Laver Arena.
- 4:12Speaker 3: I mean it's fantastic, but come on, we're going to
- 4:14Speaker 3: put center court on the MCG one hundred thousand people.
- 4:19Speaker 3: You could sell one hundred thousand tickets to the final,
- 4:23Speaker 3: to the men's have women's final easily.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But you're sitting so far away. If it's a square
- 4:28Speaker 1: tennis court.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Just put there's some big screens out there. Have you
- 4:32Speaker 3: ever watched AFL? They're tiny, tiny little men running around.
- 4:35Speaker 3: It's hard to know what's going on. You put the
- 4:37Speaker 3: court down there you can watch it. Also, I'm going
- 4:40Speaker 3: to go five set, women are playing five sets.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I like that. That's been proposed actually, I.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Mean Craig himself even spoke about that. Then we get
- 4:48Speaker 3: we're selling more airtime for the TV broadcast, more money generated,
- 4:53Speaker 3: which means more bars. So then if we've got the
- 4:57Speaker 3: MCG available, that takes pressure off Rod is now free.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Rave Cave, Ravecave, Rave Cave to our international listener having
- 5:07Speaker 1: a rave cave. Mcg is the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Hundred thousand seats.
- 5:11Speaker 1: And you think one hundred thousand people, what's rod Labor capacity.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I think it's fifteen, fifteen to twenty yeah. Yeah, so
- 5:17Speaker 1: you think rod Labor gets packed, you know. Also, but
- 5:21Speaker 1: you think there's enough demand for one hundred thousand tennis fans.
- 5:24Speaker 3: That's super yeah. Yeah, yeah. We have to lower the
- 5:27Speaker 3: ticket price so it's going to be spread out more overall,
- 5:30Speaker 3: more revenue comes in. What a spectacle. People talk about
- 5:34Speaker 3: Arthur ash Stadium and that being massive, that's all people
- 5:37Speaker 3: talk about. They're like, Wow, it's so.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Big, that's stupid.
- 5:39Speaker 3: We're going to dwarf it. We're going to go because
- 5:42Speaker 3: it's four times that year.
- 5:44Speaker 1: But Arthur Ashes too. Okay, having been to a lot
- 5:48Speaker 1: of the Grand Slams, I think the bigger the stadium,
- 5:51Speaker 1: the worst it is.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Respectators, Yeah, totally, but we're not worried about like the hardcore,
- 5:56Speaker 3: rusted on tennis fans. And that's where Tyler has been
- 5:59Speaker 3: quite brillian. He's been like every man on the street.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Just come in and have an apperl sprits and that's
- 6:04Speaker 3: how we're going to turn this into the big thing.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And that I'm with him.
- 6:07Speaker 1: He brought in the assault of the earth, the com
- 6:10Speaker 1: Man and the high man, influencers, the influence.
- 6:13Speaker 3: He's a big influencer. G Yes, he's huge, which is
- 6:16Speaker 3: weird because like, if you have met the man, which
- 6:18Speaker 3: we both have, he doesn't seem like a guy who
- 6:21Speaker 3: knows what's going on with the influencer community.
- 6:25Speaker 1: He does. Man, I've seen him in the comment saying,
- 6:28Speaker 1: you know, show Bob's please, pretty lady, pretty lady? Oh stunning? Yeah, yeah,
- 6:37Speaker 1: why is this video of eight hours long?
- 6:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. His stumma is just glued to that fire emoji.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Just loves that fire emoji. We're gonna miss him.
- 6:48Speaker 3: We're gonna miss him. What a job he's done. One
- 6:49Speaker 3: of our biggest champions of I mean, he's probably the
- 6:53Speaker 3: reason why it's still going. That's why I was worried
- 6:55Speaker 3: that is it going to all end? Now? I don't
- 6:57Speaker 3: know if they was kind of the driving force by.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Some straight laced person takes over that doesn't like the
- 7:03Speaker 1: cut of our jibs.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Yeah, we're done. Who who is around? Like, do you
- 7:08Speaker 3: think we need an Australian.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I've seen some names floated.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Craig McLachlin, Craig McLachlin, the guy that got canceled.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It's something Maglauchlin.
- 7:21Speaker 3: He did stand up on the foot show. Have you
- 7:24Speaker 3: seen that guy?
- 7:26Speaker 1: Guy? Not that guy, it's.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Gil McLaughlin, former head of the a f L. Yes,
- 7:34Speaker 3: I think you need someone. I was being a bit joke. Well,
- 7:40Speaker 3: it's hard to get up for the idea of Craig
- 7:43Speaker 3: Maybe Craig McLachlin. It's like, what do you mean if
- 7:46Speaker 3: we can't get Craig McLachlin, Delta Good Room probably, like
- 7:49Speaker 3: that's in the world you're talking now.
- 7:51Speaker 1: She was the ambassador of Slurp it up, your dumb fucks.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Are we still on the hidick? I've been drinking it,
- 8:01Speaker 3: have you?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:01Speaker 3: Because I was at.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Because you stole the promo bottles?
- 8:05Speaker 3: Well, I stole a few. But then I was at
- 8:06Speaker 3: a music festival the other day. There was a big sign,
- 8:08Speaker 3: so I went and got a couple of glasses. That's loyalty.
- 8:11Speaker 3: So even if it's not working through our listener base,
- 8:13Speaker 3: it's working on me.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it. Are they running with my slogan? Yeah?
- 8:17Speaker 3: When I get there, they hand it to you and
- 8:18Speaker 3: they enjoy that. Fuck face.
- 8:21Speaker 1: They say, guzzle it down your stupid throats. You're thirsty ass.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they say it all all and they've got
- 8:27Speaker 3: you can see, they've got a little board that they
- 8:29Speaker 3: have to ask in case someone's undercover bossing them and
- 8:31Speaker 3: they don't. They guzzle it down, you thirsty fuck knuckle. Anyway,
- 8:37Speaker 3: gil McLaughlin, he could do a good job. He's got
- 8:40Speaker 3: experience with high level administration in sport. I like a
- 8:43Speaker 3: tennis person from outside. I don't know who you bring in, Like, well,
- 8:47Speaker 3: what about these commentats? We could? Would Jim Courier come
- 8:50Speaker 3: in and do it? He's like a personal guy straining
- 8:52Speaker 3: to love.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Him he is, But does he have the business chops?
- 8:55Speaker 3: What is it again? What is the business chops? Think
- 8:58Speaker 3: you just put in a like I said, it's a
- 9:00Speaker 3: poro or an Asahi van out in the car par Yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 3: and just everyone comes and drinks nineteen dollars beers. That's
- 9:06Speaker 3: all you need to do. A Guzman No Gomez, Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 3: no Gomett.
- 9:09Speaker 1: We just yeah, he's a better one.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I'm telling you book the MTG and you'll set up
- 9:13Speaker 3: for the next four five years.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Right, Well, I guess yeah business chops Wise, Tyler was
- 9:18Speaker 1: a coach at tennis college. Yennis College. It sounds like
- 9:22Speaker 1: a place TCU. You go to TCU. He was a
- 9:25Speaker 1: college tennis coach. And then I don't know what his
- 9:29Speaker 1: background of business is. But he did make this tournament.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He started in two thousand and five, I believe, so
- 9:35Speaker 1: twenty years of running this tournament and he made it
- 9:39Speaker 1: an amazing.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Yeah, world event. Did he coin Happy Slam?
- 9:43Speaker 1: I think yeah, who knows. There's probably some marketing person
- 9:46Speaker 1: who was like, let's make this the Happy Slam.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I mean that's done. Wonders for it. Yeah, and not
- 9:50Speaker 3: show cocoa cough smashing it round.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Whoops.
- 9:55Speaker 3: But what's he going to do with the American tennis system.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I guess it's a big.
- 10:00Speaker 1: It's a huge job. I think the I haven't been
- 10:03Speaker 1: to the US Open many times. I think, do you
- 10:05Speaker 1: think they need help? Yeah? I mean it's great, but
- 10:09Speaker 1: it's nothing like this. It's something like the AO. Yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 1: it just needs the I think it needs bigger grounds first.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But I mean, if you move it out of Queen's
- 10:18Speaker 1: people are gonna riot.
- 10:20Speaker 3: They do they have the capacity to maybe buy backspace
- 10:24Speaker 3: or like open it up somewhere else.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Look, I'm not Craig Tiley. I don't know what the
- 10:30Speaker 1: business capacity is for.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Okay, well you've crossed your name off the list of
- 10:34Speaker 3: running a professional tennis tournament. What do we do with
- 10:37Speaker 3: any solutions?
- 10:38Speaker 1: The US Okay, the US Open, I'll tell you what's
- 10:41Speaker 1: wrong with it? Right? Oh, we didn't even check in
- 10:44Speaker 1: with Ace.
- 10:46Speaker 4: You.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I don't want to be checked in.
- 10:47Speaker 1: No, no, no, because, like Ace, I feel bad. We've
- 10:50Speaker 1: had this kind of running gag since you've been gone Totten,
- 10:53Speaker 1: where I ask them something and then I immediately tell
- 10:56Speaker 1: them to shut up. Right. Oh me, I know, I know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I know, and I think it's a bit of bullying,
- 11:00Speaker 1: and I actually you think it's a bit of a
- 11:02Speaker 1: bullet And I actually felt bad when I went back
- 11:05Speaker 1: and listen to episode. So, really, Ace, we're recording this
- 11:08Speaker 1: on a Friday. What actual plans do you have for
- 11:11Speaker 1: this weekend? Blow it out your ass, dick face? Nobody cares?
- 11:20Speaker 1: All right, So what.
- 11:23Speaker 3: He text me after this? What I would do for
- 11:27Speaker 3: the US Open?
- 11:29Speaker 1: It's needs that party atmosphere that the AO has it doesn't.
- 11:34Speaker 3: Happen, doesn't need but is it. It's like it's rowdy already. Yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 3: do they need a DJ?
- 11:41Speaker 1: I mean, who doesn't need a DJ?
- 11:45Speaker 3: That would work perfectly in the labor arena rave case,
- 11:50Speaker 3: you can do a DJ said in it. Oh god.
- 11:53Speaker 1: The Since weed has become legal in New York, they
- 11:57Speaker 1: had a problem that Arthur Ash with so many people
- 12:01Speaker 1: smoking weed in the stadium. The players were getting contact high.
- 12:04Speaker 3: It's so funny. Okay, well, that's like we can sort
- 12:07Speaker 3: that out. You can't smoke weed.
- 12:09Speaker 1: No, I'm saying more weed weed. I want every player
- 12:12Speaker 1: to be high as.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Okay, No, I like that because then that becomes like
- 12:16Speaker 3: a different style of game, do you know what I mean?
- 12:19Speaker 3: Like we have different surfaces that we have to deal with.
- 12:21Speaker 3: You have to adjust your game. When you get to
- 12:24Speaker 3: the US Open, you're gonna have to who can play
- 12:26Speaker 3: better really high?
- 12:28Speaker 1: This is the real happy Slam now.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Yeah, it would be cool because you know when you
- 12:32Speaker 3: watch them warm me up and they're just kind of
- 12:33Speaker 3: like dulling it back to each other. Imagine if that
- 12:36Speaker 3: was every game. We're talking like ten hour.
- 12:40Speaker 1: On the change of ends, they're just like having some
- 12:43Speaker 1: girritos and stuff.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Just sitting in there, just really staring off into the
- 12:49Speaker 3: distance as they're waiting for the call to get back
- 12:51Speaker 3: out onto the court.
- 12:55Speaker 1: But we wish him all the best. Craig Tyler, We're
- 12:57Speaker 1: going to miss him.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Rip the gold. Hey, guess what happen? I was driving yesterday?
- 13:01Speaker 3: Gets who I saw on the road.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Lighton Hewett No with Chubb, Chub with Chobb. Oh close call.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I still don't know what Chub actually does outside of
- 13:11Speaker 1: the close call. I don't know.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So troubles that there was there in a van and
- 13:15Speaker 3: they're just driving along.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Speaking of Chubs, we had an incident at the Dubai.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Was this in Dubairo? Was this Acapolco?
- 13:22Speaker 3: I believe this is Acapolco, Abierto, Mexicano.
- 13:25Speaker 1: It was Valentine evashero beat gailmn fees.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Soak that up. Heavens, Yes, heavens.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So this is going viral because people are saying he
- 13:38Speaker 1: was visibly aroused at the end of.
- 13:41Speaker 3: His wrecked Yes, as Ace said it to me before
- 13:45Speaker 3: he had pitched a tent.
- 13:46Speaker 1: He said, that's full tent.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Did he say full t Yeah, it looks to be
- 13:51Speaker 3: more than like it's not nothing.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I don't think he's excited in any type of arousal way.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I just think he's got like a chub pudge.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Like a free standing chub pudge, free standing day to
- 14:04Speaker 3: day chub pudge.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I think maybe his his his bean bag. I
- 14:09Speaker 1: don't know how to talk about this.
- 14:12Speaker 3: Bag was Christian sex head talk.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Look, when you reach a certain age, you'll start to
- 14:19Speaker 1: find hairs on your bean bag when you win an
- 14:22Speaker 1: ATP five regardless he's through to the quarterfinals, chub or
- 14:28Speaker 1: no chubb. Well, put it out to the listeners. What
- 14:30Speaker 1: do you think?
- 14:31Speaker 3: Is he bean bagging or is he well if you
- 14:34Speaker 3: got a bean bag? Or is he a little bit more?
- 14:37Speaker 1: Okay, so that's how you're framing it. We have coined
- 14:41Speaker 1: a new term here, being bean bagging. Should Yeah, this
- 14:45Speaker 1: is a chub close call.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I mean it couldn't be more of a job class.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I had some stomach problems.
- 14:51Speaker 3: I took care of it during the sets.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Well, speaking of Acapoca, let's get into the headline calls acapogo.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Is it's happening all right now? For the second straight
- 15:06Speaker 1: year in Ocapoco, the top four seeds have failed to
- 15:09Speaker 1: reach the quarter finals.
- 15:11Speaker 3: It's why why is that? Why is that? Because I
- 15:14Speaker 3: thought our little man the demon, our little man a
- 15:17Speaker 3: little man. He's a little man. You know, he's coming off.
- 15:21Speaker 3: He had a win only a few weeks in Rotterdam.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I want to say he won this a few years ago.
- 15:26Speaker 1: He won it last year and the year before, I believe.
- 15:28Speaker 1: So what's yeah?
- 15:31Speaker 3: But I guess he wasn't call little man in his confidence.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Well, so he went out to an American qualifier, Kipson
- 15:39Speaker 1: early early in the tournament. Zverev went out yesterday to
- 15:45Speaker 1: mir Mir Kikmanovich near mere Mer, Mir Mir Mirror. That's
- 15:50Speaker 1: what I say when I'm calling my cat mir Mir.
- 15:53Speaker 3: The South American swing kind of rules, Like looking through
- 15:57Speaker 3: the drawls down there in Argentina and Brazil, I'm like,
- 16:00Speaker 3: these are some names that they're not making it over
- 16:02Speaker 3: here to the Australian summer.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Well, a lot of the clay court tournaments, you'll be like,
- 16:07Speaker 1: who the hell is this person special? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 16:11Speaker 1: they're derogatorily. Is that a word referred to as dirt rats?
- 16:16Speaker 3: Really?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 16:16Speaker 3: Yeah? You called them dirtrats before the podcast, Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 16:20Speaker 3: you didn't preface.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I call anyone who lives down there.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Dude, I play at Fitzroy North A tennis courts on
- 16:25Speaker 3: the clay sometimes. Does that make me do it right?
- 16:27Speaker 1: If you're partial to it, if you prefer I play.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Better on the clay, Yeah, A little that uneven bounced,
- 16:33Speaker 3: it slows down, it sucks. Yeah, I would say I'm
- 16:36Speaker 3: gonna do it round.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Well, Casper Rude went out as well. He's just had
- 16:39Speaker 1: a baby. What's he doing hanging out in Acapolco anyway,
- 16:42Speaker 1: it's just exactly. And Alejandro Davidovich for Kina, who I
- 16:48Speaker 1: love as a player, but I just I don't know.
- 16:50Speaker 1: He seems very temperamental and he doesn't really I think
- 16:54Speaker 1: he'll do better on the clay.
- 16:56Speaker 3: But why is the Mexican it's on a hard court. Yeah.
- 16:59Speaker 3: In Santiago right now they're playing on clay, and Paris
- 17:03Speaker 3: they played on clay.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I believe Santiago is a two to fifty event. This
- 17:07Speaker 1: one's the five hundred. So you're going to get the
- 17:08Speaker 1: better player.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Okay, you're going to get there more money on the line.
- 17:11Speaker 3: You're going to get a drug war going on well
- 17:13Speaker 3: next door.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So they were thinking of there was calls to get
- 17:17Speaker 1: all the tennis players out of there.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Well, I've read an arnicle. Don't worry about the women
- 17:22Speaker 3: and children. It's the opposite of the Titanic exactly. Women
- 17:27Speaker 3: and children go down with the ship. Get the men, please, get.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Please, we have to save caspar Rue.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Well, I read an article last week like a tennis
- 17:36Speaker 3: journal was calling on Larry Ellison in the Indian Wells. Guy.
- 17:39Speaker 3: He's like, you need to chart o a jet right now.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Get the guys out, Get them to Indian Wells for
- 17:44Speaker 3: a week early so they can practice. They're not safe down.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Which I don't know. Man, it is crazy over there
- 17:51Speaker 1: at the moment, if anyone hasn't heard, and there's a
- 17:55Speaker 1: huge drug car war happening.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Like just burning out cause left right and.
- 18:01Speaker 1: The Mexican Army is involved. I'm meant to be there
- 18:03Speaker 1: next week, flying into the very city.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Did the government cool? Mexican government?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Yeah, they called me as a like a mercenary, So
- 18:11Speaker 1: I mean they're waiting for me over there. But I
- 18:14Speaker 1: also have an all inclusive five star resort that I'm
- 18:19Speaker 1: worried I won't be able to all includive.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Get scramby Eggs. What do you yeah, what do you
- 18:23Speaker 3: mean when you say all inclusive.
- 18:24Speaker 1: It means all booze and all food is paid.
- 18:27Speaker 3: So you've got some kind of package that's so American.
- 18:30Speaker 1: It's not though, it is what it is. You love
- 18:34Speaker 1: resorts of a big resort.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but that's so American, is it? Yeah? Dude?
- 18:39Speaker 1: Oh well, because you're like this traveler, lend me.
- 18:42Speaker 3: A little Airbnb, a little mini air a mini house
- 18:45Speaker 3: somewhere out in the country.
- 18:46Speaker 1: For there's cameras in AIRBNBA just watching you chub up
- 18:50Speaker 1: on their couch.
- 18:51Speaker 3: No, not chubbed my little bean bag, not my bean bag.
- 18:57Speaker 1: You're bean bagging there.
- 18:58Speaker 3: So you're actually but you're gonna bear Mexico.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I'm meant to fly into Portavireta on March tenth, so yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 19:07Speaker 1: yeah yeah. And I just got a text message from
- 19:10Speaker 1: the airline saying you might want to reconsider so.
- 19:15Speaker 3: And that's the way they would. Yeah, I believe, I know.
- 19:18Speaker 1: But we're already through as of recording to the quarterfinals
- 19:22Speaker 1: in Acapoco. Francis tfo is through to the quarters. He's
- 19:27Speaker 1: been playing some crazy matches. Nakashima plays Valentin Vashero, the
- 19:32Speaker 1: aforementioned beanbager, and then the highest seed left in the
- 19:37Speaker 1: draw is Koboli, who we discussed last week because he
- 19:40Speaker 1: just got a cool incredible hulk tet.
- 19:45Speaker 3: That is cool. That is cool, so cool.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Yeah, so all the top seeds out over there, Dubai
- 19:52Speaker 1: is through to the semifinals, Felix Auge ali Asim playing Medvedev,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and the other semi is rube Lev against Greek Spor.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I would love to see an all Russian final for
- 20:06Speaker 1: Dubai Medvedev Rublev would be sweet.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I would like to see Dubai played on clay, if
- 20:11Speaker 3: any kind.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Of like, so they're just melting into it, yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 3: Dude, if any like, look, it's just all sand over there,
- 20:17Speaker 3: Like surely they could make the clay much better.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Play on sand. Why not?
- 20:23Speaker 3: Just a bit of a gusta breeze, It just a
- 20:24Speaker 3: wall blows away.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. So who do you like? I mean, Felix,
- 20:28Speaker 1: friend of the show. We love Felix, But I mean
- 20:31Speaker 1: I just like Medvedev kind of starting to play well,
- 20:35Speaker 1: which is important heading in Indian wells.
- 20:37Speaker 3: I think Medvedev is like underachiever in terms of his
- 20:42Speaker 3: like tenacity ability. You know, we've seen it big like
- 20:46Speaker 3: a few years ago. You would love to see him
- 20:48Speaker 3: recapture that like angry man. And I don't get me wrong,
- 20:52Speaker 3: I still think he's an angry man. But I want
- 20:55Speaker 3: to see that fire again. That year he came out
- 20:57Speaker 3: here and he was the most hated man in the country. Yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 3: it was unbelievable.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Oh man, he loves playing the villain and when he does,
- 21:05Speaker 1: it's so entertaining.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Well, some people just play the heel way better than
- 21:09Speaker 3: some people. Can't do the nice guy thing or just
- 21:11Speaker 3: be like assured of themselves. Some people just have to
- 21:13Speaker 3: be like and get everyone offside. And maybe that's what
- 21:17Speaker 3: he needs to kind of kick started. But you'd love
- 21:19Speaker 3: to see him back at the top because I don't know,
- 21:21Speaker 3: I feel like he's too talented to not be in
- 21:23Speaker 3: the conversation as being like if there's a big four
- 21:26Speaker 3: or a big five, to not kind of rejoin that.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Well, I think players figured him out because he's standing,
- 21:33Speaker 1: you know, so far back off the baseline on serve
- 21:36Speaker 1: and they just figured out just hit a deep serve
- 21:38Speaker 1: and then dropshot him and he's just.
- 21:40Speaker 3: And he's still all the way at the back. Yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 3: but I mean an elite players should be able to
- 21:45Speaker 3: adjust adjust to that. You can't stand back there and
- 21:48Speaker 3: just go, ah, they got me again. I can't believe
- 21:50Speaker 3: that they got me again.
- 21:51Speaker 1: But none of these guys have been serving a volley.
- 21:53Speaker 1: How did I not see that coming? He's standing against
- 21:56Speaker 1: the chub sign in the bag they're getting.
- 22:00Speaker 3: But I'm with him, like it is if someone's like, on,
- 22:02Speaker 3: if you're playing them with their serve, man, your temptation
- 22:05Speaker 3: is just to keep getting further back. He should be
- 22:07Speaker 3: better than me, obviously, But I'm like just saying, man,
- 22:10Speaker 3: I get it. You want to get further back.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I guess why not just wait in the locker.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Room, just don't turn up.
- 22:23Speaker 1: At the end of the episode, stick around, we'll be interviewing.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Tommy Haas Sensational. Yes, I remember this interview.
- 22:30Speaker 1: It was a great interview.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and I saw Mike beg you did you beg?
- 22:35Speaker 1: I begged a little bit. I mean, I'll be over
- 22:37Speaker 1: at Indian Wells. He runs the tournament. Yeah, hook me up.
- 22:40Speaker 3: He's got to hook you up.
- 22:41Speaker 1: You'll hear in the interview he was like, oh, maybe
- 22:43Speaker 1: you can get into NOBU.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Yeah, which is a real like that's like if you
- 22:47Speaker 3: were asking Craig Tiley when he ran the Australian Open,
- 22:50Speaker 3: being like can you hook me up? And he's like, well,
- 22:52Speaker 3: there's an apparel sprits bar in Grand Slam Oval that
- 22:56Speaker 3: you can go and have a look at it.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Yeah. Not even like you know, you can get some
- 23:00Speaker 1: free stuff. It's just like, hey, you can go there.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Dude, Yeah yeah, yeah, a top top call it Shakeshack
- 23:05Speaker 3: will be there. Yeah, so pop up there and have.
- 23:07Speaker 1: A little bit of burger. Oh like for free?
- 23:09Speaker 3: No no, no, no, no no no, but yeah, it's competitive crossing.
- 23:14Speaker 3: He's more just giving you tips of what you can do.
- 23:16Speaker 1: He is hot WTA news. In hot WTA news, the
- 23:23Speaker 1: Austin Open is happening at the moment. A lot of
- 23:25Speaker 1: Ouzie is doing well. Aila tom Lanovich, isn't it. She's
- 23:29Speaker 1: playing Iva Jovic really right now, right now as we speak, Yovich,
- 23:35Speaker 1: they're on serve to one. But tom Lanovic takes on
- 23:38Speaker 1: a screen. Tom Lanovic took out wild card Venus Williams
- 23:44Speaker 1: en route to this sixteen and she's at the US Open.
- 23:49Speaker 1: She beat Serena Williams a couple of years ago and
- 23:52Speaker 1: Serena's final US Open match, so she's just slowly taking
- 23:57Speaker 1: out the Williams sisters hopes and dreams.
- 24:01Speaker 3: She'll get their auntie.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Burrell Australian is still in it. She be
- 24:07Speaker 1: Dollar Hide, so it's good to see. And then it's
- 24:09Speaker 1: Americans are just kind of rolling through. Peyton, Stearns and
- 24:13Speaker 1: Krueger are still in it. But this interesting thing coming
- 24:17Speaker 1: out of the Austin WTA event is that they have
- 24:21Speaker 1: their own private rage room.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Yeah it rules. Yeah, yeah, I think it's a good move.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I know players don't want to be seen smashing the reck.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, So now there is a room where
- 24:32Speaker 3: you can go in and just get angry, which I
- 24:34Speaker 3: think they do. This happens for normal people in everyday life.
- 24:37Speaker 3: There are these rooms where you can just take an
- 24:38Speaker 3: axe and just like chop shit. Have you seen this
- 24:41Speaker 3: and a lot of like angry child, divorced women. I
- 24:46Speaker 3: swear we get a story on it on the project.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:49Speaker 3: You can pay money. You pay a fee, it's like
- 24:51Speaker 3: fifteen dollars and you go in and there's just like
- 24:53Speaker 3: junk and they give you an ax and some like
- 24:56Speaker 3: safety goggles and you just get to smash it up
- 24:59Speaker 3: and take out all your rate. Really yeah, I think
- 25:01Speaker 3: you need to try you could you could try it.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I have a cry room where I sit and cry
- 25:07Speaker 1: bedroom my bedroom, thank you, but a rage room.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 25:13Speaker 3: You wouldn't go to a rage Do.
- 25:14Speaker 1: You think I have a sublimated rage that needs to be.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Well, I just think you, like you suppress a lot
- 25:20Speaker 3: of it, probably, which I don't know, Shade, I think
- 25:22Speaker 3: that's the correct way to do it. Like, I agree
- 25:25Speaker 3: with you, okay, but I'm saying it could be healthy
- 25:27Speaker 3: to let it out.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Do you think Venus went into the rage room after
- 25:30Speaker 1: getting taken out in straight so it's by Tom Lanovitch.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I think she probably would, but it would
- 25:37Speaker 3: suck to go in and then there's someone else in there,
- 25:40Speaker 3: Like you get in there and they're raging, and you're
- 25:41Speaker 3: gonna be like, oh wait, I'll just wait. I'll just
- 25:44Speaker 3: wait for you to finish it. Can you let me
- 25:45Speaker 3: know when your rage is done? Well, they're going to
- 25:47Speaker 3: start my rage.
- 25:48Speaker 1: They're so competitive, they'd be like their rage sit a
- 25:50Speaker 1: little better than my room.
- 25:51Speaker 3: You know what's going to happen. They're going to go
- 25:52Speaker 3: in and then someone's raging and they go they've just
- 25:55Speaker 3: lost to them or whatever, and then they'll just physically
- 25:59Speaker 3: find there's no cameras. Yeah, they'll just that's the way
- 26:03Speaker 3: to get the rage out. They just start throwing punches,
- 26:05Speaker 3: pulling hair, kicking.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I mean, then we gotta get cameras in there.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I know that's the problem. It seems like they
- 26:11Speaker 3: shouldn't actually tell people this because right now I'm just
- 26:14Speaker 3: like I would pay any money to have that as
- 26:16Speaker 3: a separate stream. Yeah, be like you can watch what's
- 26:19Speaker 3: going on in the rage room, because imagine you watch
- 26:21Speaker 3: a game, like someone gets bundled out in straight sets,
- 26:24Speaker 3: or they lose a tiebreaker on a double fault or something,
- 26:28Speaker 3: and then you just know, like, oh, in five minutes,
- 26:31Speaker 3: the rage rooms.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you're thinking about it already. Yeah. I mean even
- 26:35Speaker 1: if you're like just getting smoked in a match and
- 26:38Speaker 1: like you're down a you know, zero two or whatever, Yeah,
- 26:42Speaker 1: you're going to be like you're just already thinking about
- 26:44Speaker 1: the rage room.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Well, because it's not fair, Like it doesn't The fundamental
- 26:48Speaker 3: thing of like rage and emotion is that like it
- 26:51Speaker 3: is uncontrollable sometimes and you have to let it out.
- 26:53Speaker 3: So if you, you know, double fault four times in
- 26:57Speaker 3: the first set, lose it and then you're like, oh,
- 27:00Speaker 3: I can't wait for the rage room. It's like it's
- 27:02Speaker 3: not really doing You're still suppressing the thing because you
- 27:05Speaker 3: want to take the rage out right now in the moment. Yeah.
- 27:08Speaker 3: So I don't know what the rae it's the rage
- 27:10Speaker 3: room not that healthy because you're just putting it down there.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I don't know, like it's good. I guess if people
- 27:16Speaker 3: need to get it out, But to me, I'm like,
- 27:17Speaker 3: it doesn't solve the problem if you just wanted to
- 27:19Speaker 3: break a racket in the middle of Senate.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Coor what if you got injured in the rage room?
- 27:23Speaker 3: Oh yeah, what if you have a fall and then
- 27:24Speaker 3: you're just laying there? Do people come in and rage
- 27:26Speaker 3: a room?
- 27:27Speaker 1: The next person gets to come in and then you're
- 27:29Speaker 1: part of the rage room?
- 27:30Speaker 3: What about the shame of walking out?
- 27:33Speaker 1: Ah? Yes, the shame room like my bedroom the shame room.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you need a shame room.
- 27:41Speaker 1: If yeah, your rage isn't.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Well, I think the only way to do it is.
- 27:45Speaker 3: So there's a great pub in Sydney called the Foresters.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I know it.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Yeah, And if you sit on the front balcony, it's
- 27:50Speaker 3: opposite a very prominent brothel. Yeah you can watch you
- 27:53Speaker 3: watch we probably there yeah yeah yeah.
- 27:56Speaker 1: We used to sit there and watch guys leave the
- 27:58Speaker 1: brothel and cheer as.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah. And it would get so embarrassed, and
- 28:02Speaker 3: you'd see guys trying to go in and they'd be
- 28:04Speaker 3: like pretending to like text on their phone and then
- 28:07Speaker 3: be like oh what and then stumble into these places.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I saw a few perfectly blue sky umbrellas come out.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Dude leaveing brother.
- 28:17Speaker 3: They're just very like skin conscious. Yeah, they're worried about
- 28:20Speaker 3: the sun. Yeah yeah, yeah, but they need to put
- 28:22Speaker 3: to avoid a situation like that happening where you just
- 28:24Speaker 3: set up in front of the rage room and just
- 28:26Speaker 3: watch these people come out. They need to put it
- 28:29Speaker 3: like next to something like so someone could be coming
- 28:33Speaker 3: out of either thing. So it's either a prayer room
- 28:36Speaker 3: next to the rage room. So they're either a really
- 28:39Speaker 3: good person or a really bad person coming in and out.
- 28:42Speaker 1: So you think it goes prayer room, brothel room, rage room,
- 28:45Speaker 1: shame room.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Saying I'm not saying the ATP too need to introduce
- 28:51Speaker 3: a brothel room.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Maybe that's what Craig Tyler is going to bring to America.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Maybe I mean that would turn it round, wasn't it. Yeah?
- 29:01Speaker 3: Wait, so you're saying it goes prayer room. Wait, prayer room,
- 29:05Speaker 3: brothel room.
- 29:06Speaker 1: No, if anything, it goes.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Rage room, shame. No, no, no, because it must go
- 29:09Speaker 3: brothel show, rage, rage, prayer, shame, prayer. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
- 29:15Speaker 3: that's the circle bathroom.
- 29:26Speaker 1: When we're we're, we're, we're, we're. This is nightmare fuel
- 29:34Speaker 1: the AI. You know, Sam, you're a huge fan of AI.
- 29:40Speaker 1: The AI. The chat g bt uh has been used, yeah,
- 29:46Speaker 1: to put tennis players into the Simpsons universe. Yeah, what
- 29:57Speaker 1: do you think is that? My favorite thing is that
- 30:00Speaker 1: if you look at the comments on this, it's a
- 30:01Speaker 1: lot of people saying is this real? Yeah?
- 30:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, but I also think it
- 30:07Speaker 3: does look real.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:09Speaker 3: I'm kind of with them, like I get that it's
- 30:12Speaker 3: like part of me. This is a problem with AI. Okay,
- 30:15Speaker 3: it gets you, and you just have to admit it
- 30:16Speaker 3: when it gets you, and you can't be lulled into
- 30:20Speaker 3: commenting being like is this real, because it'll take you
- 30:22Speaker 3: fifteen seconds to go of course it's not really what trick?
- 30:25Speaker 3: It just looks real?
- 30:26Speaker 1: No, but what's tricked? Like what AI has tricked you?
- 30:28Speaker 3: And the big waves, you the big waves that are
- 30:33Speaker 3: coming in at to like the beach and people are surfing.
- 30:36Speaker 3: I'm like, holy shit.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:37Speaker 3: And then I'm like, oh, seventeen thousand comments.
- 30:40Speaker 1: And you didn't comment as as real?
- 30:42Speaker 3: No, no, no, but other people have the it's not
- 30:45Speaker 3: really there.
- 30:45Speaker 1: You go, what an idiot?
- 30:46Speaker 3: What an idiot? They dumb it?
- 30:48Speaker 1: Are you checking the comments to see if people are
- 30:50Speaker 1: like AI fake?
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, okay, no, but I refuse to believe that
- 30:55Speaker 3: there's no one out there that never knows AI, never
- 30:58Speaker 3: knows what's real. I think it gets you sometimes quickly
- 31:01Speaker 3: and then you realize that you're wrong. These for example,
- 31:04Speaker 3: I'm like, man, how did they get what a cast?
- 31:07Speaker 1: Rinka's homer is great? Federal pretty good, that's amazing. Curios
- 31:13Speaker 1: is Nelson?
- 31:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's just it is perfect. It is
- 31:16Speaker 3: really really perfect.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Did you notice Djokovic and Nadal are missing from this
- 31:21Speaker 1: Simpsons Tennesse AI, So where would you put them in
- 31:24Speaker 1: the Simpsons universe? I think Nadal as auto really bus
- 31:31Speaker 1: driver or Hans Moreman Man is good because of the
- 31:35Speaker 1: balding hair.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, it worked. Could could is this going
- 31:39Speaker 3: for like Djokovic to be like like the monorail Man
- 31:43Speaker 3: or something, because he's got a bit of that like
- 31:45Speaker 3: showman showmanship from nowhere I know he's from, maybe not
- 31:48Speaker 3: as personal as monorail Man.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Right in the pod labor kind of stuck where you
- 31:54Speaker 1: want to see Jokovic or any other player in the
- 31:56Speaker 1: Simpsons universe that doesn't exist in this ar already, this
- 32:05Speaker 1: segment is gonna blow your mind right out of your ass.
- 32:10Speaker 1: This is mikexanagrams. Didd ed it? Mixanagrams, mixagrams?
- 32:23Speaker 3: Why are you doing anagram segment?
- 32:25Speaker 1: Well? I did one for Emma rad A Kanu as
- 32:28Speaker 1: she was playing in Transylvania, and I switched the letters
- 32:31Speaker 1: around and it was U M named Dracula and it
- 32:35Speaker 1: was such a big hit. See he's confused. I don't
- 32:40Speaker 1: like if you don't think wordplay is a party, you're
- 32:45Speaker 1: a nerd.
- 32:46Speaker 3: All right, what are we doing?
- 32:47Speaker 1: So it's Francis Tiafo this week, who, like I said,
- 32:51Speaker 1: is playing in Acapoco. I have him. My prediction is
- 32:56Speaker 1: by the time people are hearing this will know the
- 32:58Speaker 1: winner of Acapoco. And I'm called it now on the
- 33:01Speaker 1: Friday where he's in through to the quarterfinals. I'm saying
- 33:05Speaker 1: he's gonna win, but I'm not even adding w to
- 33:07Speaker 1: his name. Okay, he's in Acapoco. He what a party city, Mexico.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It's you know, everyone loves it at the moment. It
- 33:16Speaker 1: seems fun.
- 33:17Speaker 3: It's really fun.
- 33:18Speaker 1: And you know there's a lot of temptation out there
- 33:21Speaker 1: yet Francis Teofo. But you know, I know he's got
- 33:24Speaker 1: a lovely partner as well. What if he if he
- 33:29Speaker 1: wanted to? I changed the letters around in his name
- 33:35Speaker 1: and just say, if he if he were to succumb
- 33:38Speaker 1: to temptation, this is so now I've changed the letters around.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I hope he forn A, Kate Safe, that was Mixanigrad
- 33:51Speaker 1: that did edit Malexandigram that did it. I'm not saying.
- 33:59Speaker 3: What what is that other than like a waste of
- 34:04Speaker 3: fifteen minutes of your time with that node pad no
- 34:07Speaker 3: ridington things out.
- 34:09Speaker 1: As soon as I had fornicaid, I was like, all right,
- 34:11Speaker 1: this is good, and then Safe was left over. What else?
- 34:14Speaker 1: Are you good? That's amazing?
- 34:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's it's pretty. It's good, dude, it
- 34:18Speaker 3: is good. I'm like, yeah, sick, I hope we all
- 34:20Speaker 3: done fornicate safe. Yeah, I just think well done. Are right?
- 34:30Speaker 1: Well, we got Tommy has in the interview today, Tommy
- 34:35Speaker 1: rules hooked on. I'll be in Indian Wells next week.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Oh and so I'll be overseas for the next month,
- 34:41Speaker 1: but I'll be I'll be zooming in. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 34:44Speaker 1: zoom in my back.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Note I've been fought again.
- 34:46Speaker 1: No, no, I hope you're back. Well, you might have
- 34:48Speaker 1: to cover for me on a couple apps. But uh,
- 34:51Speaker 1: March is an awesome month for tennis. We got the
- 34:54Speaker 1: wt A and the uh what fuck is abbreviation for
- 35:01Speaker 1: the men's.
- 35:03Speaker 3: What the hell?
- 35:06Speaker 1: We got thep the one thousand events, it's the Sunshine Double.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Is this where you get excited for tennis? As in
- 35:16Speaker 3: a little American, your little hot mouth be like, we're
- 35:18Speaker 3: on happen.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Now March rules? Yeah, because after the AO, you know,
- 35:22Speaker 1: all these tournaments at happening in the Middle East, blah
- 35:24Speaker 1: blah blah. But then this is.
- 35:26Speaker 3: And you're like, none of them are real. Let's get
- 35:28Speaker 3: it back to the hot land.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 35:30Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean I kind of agree as well.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So this is the obviously Indian Wells
- 35:35Speaker 1: and then straight after the Miami Open and two of
- 35:39Speaker 1: the best. So I'll be away, but enjoy this interview
- 35:42Speaker 1: with Tommy Haass. Good day, mate, Welcome back to pod
- 35:49Speaker 1: Labor Arena. Our guest today, former world number two Tommy Haas.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Awesome to have you here. You made the semifinals here
- 35:58Speaker 1: three times.
- 35:59Speaker 2: It's true. Was my best slam? Yeah, the happy slam here.
- 36:02Speaker 4: I don't know what it was, but I think it
- 36:04Speaker 4: was good to always, you know, end of November December,
- 36:06Speaker 4: sort of get ready to have a little bit of
- 36:07Speaker 4: time to work in a few things, try to get
- 36:10Speaker 4: physically fit, and you know, see where you're at, coming
- 36:12Speaker 4: down down under.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Right, Is it like hardcourt your favorite surface?
- 36:16Speaker 4: Then? It was, yeah, especially for a long time, even
- 36:18Speaker 4: though growing up in Germany you played you know, five
- 36:20Speaker 4: six months on the red clay and then obviously five
- 36:22Speaker 4: six months due to the weather indoors and back in
- 36:25Speaker 4: the day with a lot of carpet, so it was like,
- 36:26Speaker 4: you know, quite a big difference. But then you know,
- 36:29Speaker 4: moved to Florida to baw Terry Tennis Academy at the
- 36:32Speaker 4: age of thirteen, and they, you know, dominantly only had
- 36:35Speaker 4: hard courts, so I preferred playing on hard courts.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Were you there at the same time as z Agasy.
- 36:40Speaker 3: I was, yeah, the same time.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Was there too for a little bit longer? Yeah, because
- 36:44Speaker 4: they had then this situation where Nick boll Terry chose
- 36:48Speaker 4: to sit in the Agacy's box and then yeah, like
- 36:50Speaker 4: that and so he kind of disappeared. But Samples was
- 36:52Speaker 4: there still, Monica Salish like I got in the early nineties,
- 36:55Speaker 4: and yeah, it was.
- 36:56Speaker 2: It was great times. Yeah, it was good, good stuff.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Great and I'm excited. You're the Indian Wells tournament director. Yeah,
- 37:02Speaker 1: I'm going for my first time this year and it's
- 37:05Speaker 1: what five weeks.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Away, so doing the Indian Wells podcast as well.
- 37:09Speaker 1: I will be over there doing podlavor Arena, so like,
- 37:13Speaker 1: what perks are you going to hook?
- 37:16Speaker 4: I might be able to get you into you like
- 37:18Speaker 4: noble Like yeah, the stadium too, that's a good one
- 37:22Speaker 4: actually overlooking over looking at the tennis.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and the seven high school friends I'm bringing with
- 37:28Speaker 1: you as.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Well to talk about that.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Yeah, as well.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I can't wait. Everyone calls it the Fifth Slam and
- 37:37Speaker 1: uh yeah here it's the best.
- 37:39Speaker 2: So it is great.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Yeah, and we were happy about the fact that the
- 37:42Speaker 4: players called the Fitslam and yeah, great venue, great, great,
- 37:45Speaker 4: great ten you know, tournament and in general and uh yeah,
- 37:48Speaker 4: we always try to raise the bar of a year
- 37:50Speaker 4: as well, you know, being done in Australia, we always
- 37:52Speaker 4: see what they do here as well, which is incredible.
- 37:54Speaker 4: So yeah, it's just around the corner. Look forward to
- 37:56Speaker 4: having you there.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Great. Uh. I just want to ask you this because
- 37:59Speaker 1: i'd to an interview where your opinion on pickleball was expressed.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Was it really did I say that?
- 38:06Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 38:07Speaker 1: I did? Okay, Well, what would you say? Pickleball is
- 38:09Speaker 1: tennis for people with no athletic ability.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Pretty much, okay, which is a great thing.
- 38:14Speaker 4: By the way, Tennis is not for everyone's Like my
- 38:18Speaker 4: youngest daughter got really into tennis now in the past
- 38:20Speaker 4: two years, and you know, I've been trying to help
- 38:22Speaker 4: a little bit, and it's such a hard sport and
- 38:24Speaker 4: you realize it, right. It's like when you know how
- 38:25Speaker 4: to play and you're always like, listen, I told you
- 38:27Speaker 4: enough for the tenth time. Just you know, quick steps
- 38:29Speaker 4: over there, turn your shoulders, you know, come under the
- 38:31Speaker 4: ball and through and finish the swing.
- 38:33Speaker 2: And it's like, you know, you.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Say it so easily, but it's not so easily done
- 38:37Speaker 4: where it's like you take a you know, pickleball racket,
- 38:39Speaker 4: which is already a shame.
- 38:40Speaker 2: You know, once you hold it in your hand, you can't.
- 38:44Speaker 4: It's like bring some cheese and.
- 38:47Speaker 2: And then the ball and the sound.
- 38:51Speaker 4: It's like there should be like a you know, an
- 38:52Speaker 4: age limit when you're able to play this game.
- 38:55Speaker 2: What they say, I mean, earl.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Ostile pass in America are making a fortune because it's
- 39:04Speaker 1: all old people just blowing out joints and knees and everything.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Have you played, Tommy, I actually have?
- 39:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and you get no enjoyment out of it at all?
- 39:13Speaker 4: Really well, yeah, if it's not tennis, then then play
- 39:20Speaker 4: ping pong or something like that.
- 39:22Speaker 3: And then if you're out of all options, maybe played pickaball.
- 39:25Speaker 4: No not even then then find some new game or
- 39:29Speaker 4: I don't know, go to the golf course or something.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, don't don't don't bother, just.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Quickly what we have you like? I know your nickname
- 39:37Speaker 1: was Hassy for you still hear that?
- 39:41Speaker 4: Yeah, my close friends still call me Hosy. Sure, absolutely, because.
- 39:45Speaker 1: I thought of some better n Well, you'll be the judge.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Before somebody has name.
- 39:53Speaker 3: We don't know what's coming.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Well, so tell me what you think of these. We'll
- 39:56Speaker 1: start with this one.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Still he's huge. He's huge in Germany. That's a big starts.
- 40:03Speaker 4: So that's hastle half like that.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't mind.
- 40:08Speaker 4: It's a great picture. I might have to take a
- 40:09Speaker 4: picture of that picture posted.
- 40:13Speaker 2: My phone.
- 40:13Speaker 1: I did, Yeah, just make sure.
- 40:16Speaker 4: Look, he was obviously at the time, you know, globally,
- 40:19Speaker 4: you know, with bay Watch and night huge. But it's
- 40:23Speaker 4: funny because in America it seems like everybody comes up
- 40:25Speaker 4: to your time and says, David as big as we
- 40:28Speaker 4: think he is. In Germany, I'm like, but in that country, right,
- 40:32Speaker 4: you know, he did sing when the Berlin Walk came out.
- 40:34Speaker 4: He did sing there with like a disco jacket. I
- 40:36Speaker 4: guess that's people people still remember.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and his albums apparently.
- 40:40Speaker 2: So in Germany I think, yeah, I love it.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you know it's these these uh, these older moms
- 40:50Speaker 4: minus quite well with the older dreams son in law
- 40:54Speaker 4: kind of.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yes, we call them pet rafter fans. Yeah, we got
- 41:02Speaker 1: more for you. This next one I call Peeping Tom.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Peeping Tom probably not that into that, I.
- 41:09Speaker 4: Know, it's like I'm or something.
- 41:13Speaker 3: No, it's just you and the bush.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Yeah, bushes.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think he's into that from grace.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Yeah, there's my face is actually the expression also was
- 41:22Speaker 4: not was not quite sure?
- 41:23Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, we'll skip that. We got one more
- 41:26Speaker 1: for you, the Dominator. Much better, much better. But you're
- 41:30Speaker 1: gonna love the tagline.
- 41:33Speaker 2: It's onto something.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that's class. Another picture for sure. I gotta
- 41:41Speaker 4: post that on social media.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Well, we'll get the pictures with you and probably.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Probably could do it in a in a pretty good
- 41:47Speaker 2: Arnold xcent. Right, can you give it you stuff?
- 41:51Speaker 3: Baby?
- 41:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good, you know.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Tommy, Yeah, sure, Tommy. We've been closing the interview used
- 42:00Speaker 1: by doing a one point slam on the ping pong
- 42:02Speaker 1: table over there. No, no, no, that's actually we made that.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Out of a I'm happy to play, for sure.
- 42:10Speaker 1: We made that out of a tiny door. We sold
- 42:12Speaker 1: off Diego Schwartzman's dressing room, so.
- 42:18Speaker 3: His tennis rackets are there.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, So, Tommy, I think I'm gonna verse you
- 42:26Speaker 1: in the ping pong. We don't have a million dollars
- 42:28Speaker 1: to give away, so I think that the steaks, No, no, no,
- 42:32Speaker 1: how about this for the steaks. If I lose, you
- 42:35Speaker 1: can hit a ping pong ball at my back as
- 42:37Speaker 1: hard as you can. But yeah yeah, but if I win,
- 42:41Speaker 1: then I get exclusive treatment of Dean Wells all the way.
