- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, my little badasses.
- 0:08Speaker 2: I am so fucking intimidated by today's episode.
- 0:11Speaker 3: No, I'm nervous, I'm shaking.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I'm never nervous about any guests, but today I have
- 0:17Speaker 2: the directing staff of Special Forces. Welcome Billy, Welcome Rudy.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Holy shit, you guys aren't nervous, like.
- 0:28Speaker 4: We are far from nervous.
- 0:30Speaker 5: Yeah, we're very thankful, but yeah, we've toppled regimes and
- 0:33Speaker 5: this is not your Well, I've.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Read through your backgrounds and your your resume, and I
- 0:38Speaker 2: immediately looked at East and I was like, Okay, First
- 0:41Speaker 2: of all, I have so many questions, and second of all,
- 0:44Speaker 2: I've never been this intimidated by anybody. So I love
- 0:49Speaker 2: the show. It is absolutely fantastic. But I really relate
- 0:53Speaker 2: to the people who after the first mission say I'm
- 0:55Speaker 2: done and go home.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Those are the most relatable to me.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And I just immediately went into I have breast implants,
- 1:05Speaker 2: so I can't go on the show like that was
- 1:08Speaker 2: my excuse. Because my mother is really into it as
- 1:10Speaker 2: well and said you should do this, you should test
- 1:13Speaker 2: your strength. I was like, let's not because then I
- 1:16Speaker 2: can say that I have all the strength in the world.
- 1:18Speaker 2: But I don't have to prove anything. And that's the
- 1:20Speaker 2: category that I sit well in.
- 1:22Speaker 6: Well, la la, you know what, believe it in all
- 1:24Speaker 6: la la.
- 1:26Speaker 5: It's such an opportunity because we do have recruits that
- 1:29Speaker 5: come on for the good reasons, like they want to
- 1:32Speaker 5: reconnect to patriotism.
- 1:33Speaker 6: Some of them have parents and or grant parents that served.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Others want to see what they're made of, maybe looking
- 1:41Speaker 5: for a new test or challenge. Everyone is shocked about
- 1:45Speaker 5: how difficult it is in different ways, and you'd be surprised.
- 1:48Speaker 5: You may think you're weak, or you may think you're afraid.
- 1:51Speaker 5: You may think that it's too much, But when the
- 1:54Speaker 5: chips are down and you've got other recruits suffering with
- 1:57Speaker 5: you, you find something deeper inside. And we've seen it across
- 2:00Speaker 5: the board in our program.
- 2:02Speaker 6: And it's not a TV show, it's really a course.
- 2:04Speaker 6: We run a course.
- 2:06Speaker 5: We have an incredible production house called Mental Films that
- 2:09Speaker 5: are skilled at capturing it. But we run a course
- 2:12Speaker 5: and we're always surprised, aren't we.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Bro I think most people come on it because they've
- 2:17Speaker 4: lost direction forgot oh they really are okay and they
- 2:20Speaker 4: want to be challenged in many many ways, and some
- 2:23Speaker 4: like Rudy says, you know, they may have a background
- 2:25Speaker 4: of coming from a military family, want to feel what
- 2:27Speaker 4: that was really about. But it's very much an individual journey.
- 2:32Speaker 4: And I would say ninety percent of the people say
- 2:35Speaker 4: exactly what you just said, that I couldn't do it,
- 2:38Speaker 4: or I wouldn't want to do it. Maybe you wouldn't
- 2:40Speaker 4: want to do it, but you could do it. You'd
- 2:42Speaker 4: be surprised what you could do because we will push
- 2:47Speaker 4: you physically, mentally, and emotionally through barriers you'd never ever
- 2:52Speaker 4: dream of going through or doing things that you couldn't imagine.
- 2:55Speaker 4: You know.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I love that you say that, And obviously you both
- 3:00Speaker 2: come from a background where this has been your real
- 3:05Speaker 2: life for many many years.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Billy, what was it that made.
- 3:12Speaker 2: You want to enter into this world? Not the television show,
- 3:16Speaker 2: but before that.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Yes, I'll tell you, and it's the sas that you
- 3:20Speaker 1: were a part of.
- 3:21Speaker 4: It was. But you don't just go straight into Special Forces.
- 3:25Speaker 4: You have to go into a military branch and then
- 3:28Speaker 4: apply to going to the Special Forces. After a period
- 3:31Speaker 4: of time you have used to have to do about
- 3:33Speaker 4: five years of experience of being in a normal unit.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Then you go to the Special Forces for me. I
- 3:39Speaker 4: grew up in UK into a very poor family of five.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I was a middle child, which meant I was different,
- 3:46Speaker 4: because middle child children are we are different, We're wired different.
- 3:49Speaker 4: And I was wrongue I was in a lot of trouble.
- 3:52Speaker 4: By the age of eleven, I was in county court.
- 3:54Speaker 4: By the age of thirteen, I was thrown out of school,
- 3:56Speaker 4: so I had no education. Fifteen, I was stabbling nearly
- 4:00Speaker 4: and that was the turning part of my life. Where
- 4:03Speaker 4: looking at my family, my mom and dad, and realizing
- 4:05Speaker 4: the pain I'd put them through, I knew how to
- 4:07Speaker 4: change my life. The military was that change. I knew
- 4:12Speaker 4: I needed the discipline, I needed to be taught respect,
- 4:15Speaker 4: and I joined the military at seventeen. I joined the
- 4:18Speaker 4: Parachute Regiment. Seventy seven zero of us started and at
- 4:22Speaker 4: the end of it there's all the seven of us left,
- 4:23Speaker 4: and I was one of those seven. And then I
- 4:26Speaker 4: spent nine years with a parachute regiment, serving all over
- 4:29Speaker 4: the globe in conflict and being tested and doing things.
- 4:33Speaker 4: And then after nine years I decided where to all
- 4:36Speaker 4: go next, and I went to the Special Forces. At
- 4:40Speaker 4: this time, there was two hundred and eighty three of
- 4:42Speaker 4: US started the course at the end that looking number
- 4:46Speaker 4: again seven of US finished. Wow, And I went to
- 4:51Speaker 4: B Squadron two two SES, which is very famous for
- 4:54Speaker 4: the Iranian Embassy back in nineteen eighty that was the
- 4:57Speaker 4: first time the British Special Forces were ever seen or
- 5:01Speaker 4: and yeah, and then I'll spent twenty years with the
- 5:03Speaker 4: sas decorated by the Queen on a number of occasions
- 5:07Speaker 4: at a wonderful career.
- 5:08Speaker 2: That's incredible. Our grandfather served in World War.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Two and then the Vietnam War, right.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And he had a silver Star. Is that I got
- 5:19Speaker 1: a silver star?
- 5:20Speaker 6: So is that something that's a big time?
- 5:24Speaker 5: That is a high decoration. It's the highest decoration. Underneath
- 5:29Speaker 5: the Congressional Medal of Honor, which mostly you receive posthumously
- 5:33Speaker 5: mostly you die. You have to sacrifice your life to
- 5:36Speaker 5: get the Congressional Medal of Honor right underneath that is
- 5:39Speaker 5: the silver Star.
- 5:40Speaker 6: Wow, that's not joke.
- 5:41Speaker 4: So he's obviously, you know, made a lot of sacrifices,
- 5:45Speaker 4: very brave man and these great things.
- 5:48Speaker 2: That's incredible because my mom would always talk about that
- 5:51Speaker 2: and you just kind of go like, wow, that's amazing,
- 5:54Speaker 2: and you don't really carry with you what that actually means.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So I'm having an overwhelming feeling right now.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Back to like you guys said, it's people who do
- 6:04Speaker 3: the show who have like family background in it, and
- 6:07Speaker 3: like that's a thing that I just thought, like for
- 6:10Speaker 3: my grandpa to go through it, what.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Am I capable of? For sure?
- 6:15Speaker 2: So that yeah, and Rudy your your father was in
- 6:19Speaker 2: the Marines, Is that correct?
- 6:21Speaker 6: Yep? The Marine Corps in Vietnam. And I have two fathers.
- 6:23Speaker 5: My biological fathers also a marine in Vietnam and he
- 6:28Speaker 5: did two tours and was not well. Never came back
- 6:31Speaker 5: to my mom. But Rudy Reus who was passed on,
- 6:34Speaker 5: they both have pessed on. But my real father is
- 6:36Speaker 5: Rudy Rays And I'll tell you what. He has three boys.
- 6:40Speaker 5: I am his favorite, and I'm not even as biological.
- 6:43Speaker 5: I mean, he just loved me.
- 6:45Speaker 6: He called me Dad. He say Dad, I say Dad,
- 6:48Speaker 6: Dad is Dad. So I was.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Married as a young recomrine. And you know, when we
- 6:54Speaker 5: go through selection, you have to be an infantryman. You've
- 6:56Speaker 5: got to be a nobody. Just like Billy said, there's
- 6:58Speaker 5: no in the Marine Corps and in British Army. You
- 7:00Speaker 5: can't sign up for Special Force. There's no such thing.
- 7:03Speaker 5: You have to get your basic soldiering skills and there's
- 7:06Speaker 5: a culture to learn, and it's the basic soldiering disciplines,
- 7:12Speaker 5: fields of fire. You never hear us our units having
- 7:16Speaker 5: blue on blue shooting each other, believe it or not.
- 7:19Speaker 5: If you can imagine, it's not like the movies. Combat
- 7:22Speaker 5: is incredibly chaotic and it is extremely, extremely dangerous because
- 7:29Speaker 5: our weapons systems.
- 7:31Speaker 6: They don't have smart bullets. They're going to go wherever
- 7:33Speaker 6: they freaking go.
- 7:34Speaker 5: And to coordinate and to work fields of fire, to
- 7:38Speaker 5: understand the disciplines, and to have trigger control. Man, there's
- 7:42Speaker 5: so much that goes into it. But I did my
- 7:44Speaker 5: very best. I never really liked guns before I grew
- 7:47Speaker 5: up in Ultimately, I was orphaned. My mother gave us up.
- 7:51Speaker 5: My parents split up when I was very young. But
- 7:54Speaker 5: I was an athlete and I believed in fighting a
- 7:56Speaker 5: good fight. I love freaking Rocky Balboa. I watch John Rambo,
- 7:59Speaker 5: and I was a great wrestler in Nebraska. I learned
- 8:03Speaker 5: to love discipline, and if you play by the rules
- 8:06Speaker 5: and you do your best, it starts opening up other doors.
- 8:09Speaker 5: So I excelled in the boy's home. After I got
- 8:12Speaker 5: out of the boys home, I went into kickboxing.
- 8:14Speaker 1: How old were you when you got out of the
- 8:16Speaker 1: boys home?
- 8:16Speaker 6: Eighteen years? Hold? Okay, and two little brothers.
- 8:19Speaker 5: I got them out of the boys home too, so
- 8:21Speaker 5: that they could stay with me. And we worked restaurant
- 8:24Speaker 5: jobs and construction, and I pursued martial art all of
- 8:28Speaker 5: my teens and twenties. I never went to a bar
- 8:32Speaker 5: club or anything like that. I trained, and this is
- 8:34Speaker 5: what it takes if you want to be great. I
- 8:36Speaker 5: trained three to five hours every single day, had a job,
- 8:40Speaker 5: maintained my weight. But it was the ethics of sport
- 8:43Speaker 5: and the ethics of martial art that led me to
- 8:45Speaker 5: the Marine Corps. Billy was fighting over there in Kosovo
- 8:50Speaker 5: and in Bosnia. Well, you too may be too young
- 8:54Speaker 5: to remember, but around nineteen ninety seven, President Clinton says,
- 8:57Speaker 5: all right, we're going to bring Americans over there to
- 8:59Speaker 5: help our brother fighting, and we've got to stop the
- 9:02Speaker 5: ethnic cleansing and the war that's happening there between.
- 9:06Speaker 6: Serbia and Croatia.
- 9:07Speaker 5: So I said, well, if another young man's got to
- 9:10Speaker 5: go fight, and I'm young, I'm strong. I was twenty six.
- 9:15Speaker 5: Another young man's got to go fight. I was already
- 9:16Speaker 5: an international kickboxing champion. Somebody else has got a sacrifice,
- 9:21Speaker 5: then I.
- 9:22Speaker 6: Have to do my part.
- 9:23Speaker 5: I didn't know really, not much about the military except
- 9:26Speaker 5: in America. The Marine Corps is the toughest, the toughest
- 9:31Speaker 5: freaking branch there is. It wasn't the army they sent
- 9:35Speaker 5: to fight the Japanese in the Pacific.
- 9:37Speaker 6: It was the United States Marines. No one else could
- 9:40Speaker 6: have done it.
- 9:41Speaker 5: So I joined the infantry. Had no idea what I
- 9:43Speaker 5: was doing. It was very tough, extremely disciplined. You always fail,
- 9:48Speaker 5: you're always in charge. I was always in charge. I
- 9:49Speaker 5: was the onograd of boot camp and school of Infantry
- 9:53Speaker 5: and the iron man.
- 9:54Speaker 6: So I failed. Every day.
- 9:55Speaker 5: Somebody messes up. Somebody in seventy freaking Marines is going
- 9:59Speaker 5: to mat whether it's the boots, whether it's the how
- 10:01Speaker 5: they're blouse, or whether the rank is or what have you.
- 10:04Speaker 5: So I was punished every day. It's called the burden
- 10:07Speaker 5: of leadership. So it's punished for about six or eight months.
- 10:11Speaker 1: How do you get punished, like, what is the punishment entail?
- 10:13Speaker 5: Are you allowed to say, oh, well, they'll humiliate you,
- 10:16Speaker 5: they'll put you in the sand pit and wear you
- 10:19Speaker 5: out with eight count bodybuilders and burpies. They'll make you
- 10:23Speaker 5: do extra duty. They make fun of you really, really
- 10:25Speaker 5: bad in horrible ways. It's because it's teaching you that
- 10:30Speaker 5: attention to detail and that you're always inspecting, not expecting.
- 10:36Speaker 5: This goes right to our work on the course. We inspect,
- 10:39Speaker 5: we do not expect. We do a lot of dangerous
- 10:42Speaker 5: work even on this course. The rope work, the helicopter work,
- 10:46Speaker 5: the swim escapes. Man, it's all real deal, operational freaking risk.
- 10:52Speaker 5: We need to be switched on. We check each other out,
- 10:54Speaker 5: check our horneses, make face to faces, brief back, make
- 10:58Speaker 5: sure we're really on the same sheet of music. That's
- 11:01Speaker 5: what this was teaching me. And then I had an
- 11:03Speaker 5: opportunity to try out for recon. And I didn't know
- 11:05Speaker 5: how to swim too well. But I was so dominant
- 11:08Speaker 5: on the land and I was such a fast runner,
- 11:10Speaker 5: and I was so strong. I was ahead at the pool.
- 11:13Speaker 5: It was seven hours on the land and I wait
- 11:15Speaker 5: to the pool. Nobody else was there for half an hour.
- 11:17Speaker 5: I caught my breath and I.
- 11:18Speaker 6: Barely made it. Barely made.
- 11:21Speaker 5: Because they thrive the little water stuff that you see
- 11:24Speaker 5: broll get We're treading with half hour with our freaking
- 11:28Speaker 5: rifle above our head.
- 11:29Speaker 6: We've got to go.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Thank god.
- 11:30Speaker 6: Oh yeah, you.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Got sharks meaning other freaking recomornes swimming behind you with
- 11:36Speaker 5: fins and throwing you in chokes, and you got to
- 11:37Speaker 5: bring them all the way down twenty five feet, grab
- 11:40Speaker 5: their elbows, squeeze, turn around, push them off. Then you
- 11:43Speaker 5: have to do rescues. I mean, it's just heavy, right,
- 11:45Speaker 5: But somehow I kept a great attitude. This is why
- 11:48Speaker 5: they brought me all the show back in essays. I
- 11:50Speaker 5: had a great attitude and I never gave up slowly
- 11:54Speaker 5: but surely I may not be smart, but I'm trainable.
- 11:58Speaker 6: I love that, and it really.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Brought me a great husband. Are you married?
- 12:04Speaker 5: Well, just recently it kind of went south because I
- 12:08Speaker 5: think because I do, because I do too much. I'm
- 12:12Speaker 5: a successful I'm a successful veteran. I've got my own
- 12:16Speaker 5: work in business. I rebuild corel reefs, I clean the house,
- 12:20Speaker 5: I do the yard, I do everything, And maybe some
- 12:23Speaker 5: people might feel insecure.
- 12:24Speaker 6: I guess, oh, you're.
- 12:25Speaker 1: A little too trainable, But yeah, like hold on, he's
- 12:28Speaker 1: out doing himself.
- 12:29Speaker 6: Overcheap, overachiever, classic receiver.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Well do you have children?
- 12:33Speaker 5: I do, my two little babies. They love the hell
- 12:36Speaker 5: out of me. Now a little did I know it's
- 12:38Speaker 5: so big? But Call of Duty the video game.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I'm a very.
- 12:42Speaker 5: Popular character in Call of Duty, right, And my son
- 12:45Speaker 5: is thinking he's the coolest because even my my character's
- 12:48Speaker 5: name is Reyes and you know muscles.
- 12:51Speaker 1: So you made your character? You do you make your character?
- 12:55Speaker 6: Do they just come how they Yeah? They brought me out.
- 12:58Speaker 6: That was a modeling job and everything. That's me, Doug.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Wow, I play as you are. It's really real. Oh
- 13:05Speaker 1: that's incredible.
- 13:07Speaker 6: Ship. Yeah.
- 13:07Speaker 5: So my son loves me and oh me and this
- 13:10Speaker 5: homeboy so much. My daughter's fourteen, she's a super stud.
- 13:14Speaker 5: But at fourteen, oh she eva asked me about like
- 13:17Speaker 5: shoes and stuff like that. But my son and I
- 13:20Speaker 5: we go on adventures. He plays hockey, We we work
- 13:23Speaker 5: out together. We go to the video the video game
- 13:26Speaker 5: Go Kart place.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Yeah, go crazy. But you know what he loves the most,
- 13:29Speaker 6: Billy laser tag dog. He loves to play.
- 13:32Speaker 5: He's wearing my ass out.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Yeah he does. You know what would you say, Billy?
- 13:40Speaker 5: As we gotten older, we've just become more of ourselves really,
- 13:43Speaker 5: I mean kind.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Of just we're still beats upon. Yeah, we're still young kids.
- 13:47Speaker 6: A heart.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Billy you have, you have kids and brand baby. I'm wondering,
- 13:58Speaker 2: because you guys come from a military background, what is
- 14:02Speaker 2: discipline like in your household?
- 14:05Speaker 4: Brutal? I can imagine they don't step out of line.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I don't think I would either.
- 14:12Speaker 2: We talked about these parenting styles and what works. We
- 14:16Speaker 2: talk about this a lot, so I want to get
- 14:17Speaker 2: what it's like in your household.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Well, my kids are growing up now, so my house
- 14:23Speaker 4: on force is empty, but I've got grandkids. I would
- 14:27Speaker 4: say discipline was a massive thing in my house and respect.
- 14:31Speaker 4: But I think we were talking earlier.
- 14:33Speaker 6: You know.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I let them be kids. I let them grow up.
- 14:36Speaker 4: I let them be I encourage them to be naughty,
- 14:38Speaker 4: go out and do like kids do, knock on doors,
- 14:41Speaker 4: run away, be a little bit cheeky. That's part of
- 14:43Speaker 4: growing up, right, you know. But I've always taught them
- 14:46Speaker 4: if it's the detriment of someone else or damaging, and
- 14:51Speaker 4: when you know it's wrong and you don't do it,
- 14:54Speaker 4: that is when you know. My discipline changes with them Okay,
- 14:58Speaker 4: they'd be punished for that doing that, but I always
- 15:01Speaker 4: encourage him to go out and do But I was
- 15:03Speaker 4: also taught some respect, you know, for people, for elderly
- 15:07Speaker 4: and to do the right thing. I think it works.
- 15:09Speaker 4: I've got five daughters and they are all doing amazing.
- 15:14Speaker 1: That makes me really happy to hear.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Yeah, and that was a tough time as a farther,
- 15:18Speaker 4: you know, because they're very pretty girls that took after me,
- 15:20Speaker 4: not the more right, So I'll give We were talking
- 15:25Speaker 4: about that. We were talking about this in the car.
- 15:27Speaker 4: I don't know if I should tell you this, but
- 15:29Speaker 4: I'm gonna so as my you know, for a father,
- 15:34Speaker 4: teenage girls is your worst nightmare because the pretty, you know,
- 15:38Speaker 4: guys are like guys are guys, you know. Yeah, so
- 15:42Speaker 4: the guys are sniffing around. They want to be the boyfriends,
- 15:44Speaker 4: which is fine. So every door to that bought a
- 15:46Speaker 4: boyfriend home and they weren't allowed to do that to
- 15:48Speaker 4: at least fourteen. So they come home, then they have
- 15:52Speaker 4: an interview with me, and they did. So this is
- 15:58Speaker 4: how the interview quite kind of went. I had my
- 16:01Speaker 4: own little room and dad being there. I put Dean
- 16:03Speaker 4: Martin on because I love Dean Martin. He calls me down.
- 16:06Speaker 4: I'd have a cigar, Jack Daniels. I go, yeah, come
- 16:08Speaker 4: in fuck and they'd be like my eldest daughter. Sorry.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Second I was to Kayley, this is the best example
- 16:14Speaker 4: I can give you. And she's dating a guy called
- 16:17Speaker 4: Dan and he's a lovely guy. And Dan comes in.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I says, shut the door, Kayley leave, Oh Dad, please
- 16:22Speaker 4: as leave. So she leaves. That's down. What's your name?
- 16:25Speaker 6: Dan?
- 16:25Speaker 4: Dan? Anyway? Dan, he's a deal. Welcome to my family.
- 16:29Speaker 4: You are welcome in my family. That's my precious daughter.
- 16:32Speaker 4: If you hurt my daughter, that means you hurt me,
- 16:35Speaker 4: which means you hurt my family, which means I'll kill you.
- 16:39Speaker 6: Oh my hell, that's true.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Right. So the little Dan's looking at me, God, what
- 16:43Speaker 4: I says, Did you hear that I will kill you?
- 16:46Speaker 4: I hear that. Okay, well, don't hurt my daughter, and
- 16:48Speaker 4: I don't have to kill you, I says. And if
- 16:50Speaker 4: I can't kill you because I'm away on deployment, my
- 16:53Speaker 4: friends will kill you. So Dan's like, shock, look at me.
- 16:56Speaker 4: You got the message. Got the message. Welcome to my family, Dan, goodbye?
- 17:00Speaker 4: So Dan goes. Now this is one true. So I've
- 17:03Speaker 4: done this with every one of their boyfriends. Anyway, I
- 17:07Speaker 4: get deployed two weeks later on I won't say exactly
- 17:09Speaker 4: where I'm I'm in the Middle East and my phone rings,
- 17:13Speaker 4: and I'm just about to go out and slap some
- 17:14Speaker 4: naughty people for doing naughty things. So I'm kind of
- 17:18Speaker 4: all wound up, and my phone rings and it's my
- 17:22Speaker 4: hysterical wife and I says, what's wrong. She goes, did
- 17:25Speaker 4: you say you would kill Cayley's boyfriend Dan? I said,
- 17:29Speaker 4: of course I did. Who do you think you are?
- 17:33Speaker 4: You can't do that. I says, I can do that,
- 17:35Speaker 4: and I did do that, right, so I did. Anyway,
- 17:38Speaker 4: She goes, well, his mom's a lawyer and she's been
- 17:40Speaker 4: on the phone and they're talking about on the police.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Tell them to go to the fucking please, that's my daughter.
- 17:47Speaker 4: So I put the phone and I go out. We
- 17:49Speaker 4: do this job, this raid. I slapped some naughty people.
- 17:52Speaker 4: So I'm a little bit happy enough back to notice
- 17:56Speaker 4: my phone's got like twenty miss calls and I don't
- 17:59Speaker 4: recognize that number. So it rings again. I pick it
- 18:02Speaker 4: up and it's an English lady on the phone. She's
- 18:05Speaker 4: ranting and raving and went right, calm down. Stop. Who
- 18:08Speaker 4: are you? She says, I'm Jenny. I says, sorry, I
- 18:10Speaker 4: don't know her Jenny. She said, well, I'm Dan's mom.
- 18:14Speaker 4: I went, sorry, Dan, oh, Cayley's boyfriend. Yes, apparently you
- 18:19Speaker 4: said you would kill him. If your daughter says that's right,
- 18:22Speaker 4: she goes, how dare your says listen, he's a deal.
- 18:25Speaker 4: I will kill him, and I'll kill you and your
- 18:26Speaker 4: husband as well. And you know what, I've never had
- 18:33Speaker 4: a problem with.
- 18:33Speaker 5: My doors her husband.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Now, no, no, Danny's missing in action.
- 18:44Speaker 6: I would have been too, so wipe my ass and
- 18:46Speaker 6: got on the way.
- 18:48Speaker 4: I've got to tell you the rest of this story
- 18:49Speaker 4: is this is very true. Right, So in the regiment,
- 18:52Speaker 4: and yes, there's some nasty people, I say nasty, wonderful people.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Nasty people, not people you want to piss off. So
- 19:00Speaker 4: there's a guy called Monster, and he's called Monster for
- 19:02Speaker 4: a fucking reason.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Does he have an accent like yours? Because I'm already terrified.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Yes he does. Okay, but Monster's hug you like rudey
- 19:09Speaker 4: on steroids. This guy is ship and he's a he's
- 19:12Speaker 4: a great guy, and he knows my kids. He watched
- 19:14Speaker 4: my kids grow up, so I have to. I had
- 19:16Speaker 4: this conversation. I'm away fighting a war and it's a
- 19:20Speaker 4: Sunday afternoon and Kaylee, my daughter, is walking over the
- 19:23Speaker 4: bridge with a boyfriend and land coming the other side
- 19:26Speaker 4: is this monster of a man and it's monster and
- 19:29Speaker 4: he looks. He sees Kayley goes your you're Billingham's kid.
- 19:33Speaker 4: She's like yeah, she goes a new U because I'm Dan. Well, Dan,
- 19:38Speaker 4: you hurt her, I'll fucking kill you and walks.
- 19:42Speaker 2: You, guys, where is Dan? Someone needs to do a
- 19:45Speaker 2: wellness check on her.
- 19:46Speaker 4: God bless Danny.
- 19:48Speaker 6: He's probably he's got a different name.
- 19:57Speaker 4: Lives on an island somewhere.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Sitting there rocking in the fetal position, worried that we.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Laugh at Joe. But yeah, I was pretty strict with
- 20:08Speaker 4: my kids. I still am. But I'll tell you what
- 20:09Speaker 4: it worked. My kids are doing great things, my grandkids
- 20:12Speaker 4: are doing great things, and I think.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what, I appreciate.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I appreciate that because I'm a single mom, and I
- 20:21Speaker 2: sometimes go back and forth with the battle of I've
- 20:24Speaker 2: chosen to be a single parent. So so my my
- 20:27Speaker 2: first born, I had you know, the normal way.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Fall in love, bump peepies have a kid.
- 20:32Speaker 2: It didn't turn out the way that I wanted it
- 20:35Speaker 2: to with my ex, and so I went the route
- 20:38Speaker 2: of getting a sperm donor for my four month old.
- 20:41Speaker 1: And I love that part.
- 20:43Speaker 2: But when I hear you guys talk about your kids
- 20:46Speaker 2: and how you discipline, I find and I make it
- 20:49Speaker 2: hate for this, but there's nothing like And I had
- 20:52Speaker 2: a great dad, but I knew that when Dad checked in,
- 20:56Speaker 2: we weren't fucking playing anymore, for sure, And so sometimes
- 20:59Speaker 2: I worry about that. So I may be calling you,
- 21:01Speaker 2: billy to be like, yo, are need a disciplinarian or
- 21:06Speaker 2: they got a boyfriend?
- 21:08Speaker 4: Buns, don't worry.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I love it.
- 21:10Speaker 5: I have two children. One's a boy, you know, one's
- 21:13Speaker 5: a girl. Dylan is twelve and he doesn't like girls,
- 21:16Speaker 5: which is awesome. All he wants to do is train,
- 21:18Speaker 5: play hockey, lift weights with dad, give me dissertations on
- 21:23Speaker 5: the Gettysburg address because he loves history. He's just he's
- 21:26Speaker 5: my kind of little man and he loves me, and
- 21:29Speaker 5: we just do freaking men's stuff and boys stuff and
- 21:32Speaker 5: lift weights and.
- 21:32Speaker 6: Do martial arts.
- 21:33Speaker 5: But he has both My children have Asian mothers and
- 21:37Speaker 5: Asian families.
- 21:38Speaker 6: That are steeped in respect and tradition. Both the mothers
- 21:43Speaker 6: are doctors.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Both their families come here as both are actually both
- 21:48Speaker 5: the mothers are immigrants themselves. They know the value of
- 21:51Speaker 5: a dollar. They are extremely hard working. My son's grandfather
- 21:56Speaker 5: is a martial artist as well and a neurologist.
- 21:59Speaker 6: She's an oral surgeon.
- 22:01Speaker 5: The books have to come first before any fun on
- 22:04Speaker 5: the ice, and if you want to spend time with
- 22:07Speaker 5: Papa Ruti, then the marks need to be high.
- 22:10Speaker 6: A matter of fact, both the kids go to extra school.
- 22:15Speaker 5: You know, their mothers and their families are very disciplined
- 22:19Speaker 5: about really being competitive, and they may not like it
- 22:22Speaker 5: now when they get older, it will be paying dividends.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Now with me, when somebody's acting out of line or
- 22:30Speaker 5: not showing respect, it just drop the voice and I
- 22:32Speaker 5: look them in the eye and boom, it's squared away.
- 22:35Speaker 5: That's the most important part is that they respect their
- 22:38Speaker 5: fathers because they love them, and I definitely shower them
- 22:42Speaker 5: with love and attention as well. Like when he raised
- 22:46Speaker 5: his kids, he was always on operation. I've been on
- 22:49Speaker 5: operation and gone until really I retire ten years ago. Nowadays,
- 22:53Speaker 5: the time with our loved ones is number one and
- 22:56Speaker 5: they can't.
- 22:56Speaker 6: Go out and do the awesome stuff that we do.
- 22:58Speaker 5: So anytime and every time and we're off of work,
- 23:00Speaker 5: we're doing stuff with the kids.
- 23:02Speaker 1: I love that. I wonder this all the time.
- 23:07Speaker 2: When you guys would go out on missions, right, and
- 23:11Speaker 2: you had a goal, and I know that you both.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I saw the word sniper in both of your guys
- 23:16Speaker 2: as bios. But when you go into a mission and
- 23:19Speaker 2: you know what you have to do, is there ever
- 23:23Speaker 2: a thought in your mind because your fine tuned machines, period,
- 23:28Speaker 2: but do you keep the human aspect with you where
- 23:30Speaker 2: you're like, this could go terribly wrong and it could
- 23:33Speaker 2: be my last day on Earth?
- 23:34Speaker 1: Time Every time I.
- 23:36Speaker 6: Do, yeah, I always know that it.
- 23:39Speaker 5: I mean every moment we've been in heavy heavy kinetic warfare.
- 23:42Speaker 5: I've had the bullets just go through my windshield and
- 23:44Speaker 5: the RPGs just miss me and man, I mean hell
- 23:48Speaker 5: fire rockets coming in from the cobras and then skirmishes
- 23:52Speaker 5: pushing on the flank.
- 23:53Speaker 6: I mean, it's been freaking heavy. However, I know.
- 23:58Speaker 5: That this could be it, but I have no barrier
- 24:04Speaker 5: between me and what must be done. And in some
- 24:09Speaker 5: ways I'm not even afraid. I understand the risk. But
- 24:14Speaker 5: if I got afraid, I think I would.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Freeze or slow down. I look back now at.
- 24:21Speaker 5: Some of the heavy stuff I fought Fellujah on Ramadi,
- 24:24Speaker 5: which is just freaking pannemonium in the ring nowadays, I'd
- 24:30Speaker 5: be a little bit scared, or I would slow down
- 24:34Speaker 5: and say, hey, let's just think about this a little
- 24:36Speaker 5: bit more. Hey, let's just wait a second. I wonder
- 24:40Speaker 5: if my aggression and plus your teammates are your best
- 24:44Speaker 5: friends that are just as skilled and just as badass
- 24:46Speaker 5: as you. You will not be killed because somebody stabs
- 24:50Speaker 5: you or shoot you in the back. And you will
- 24:52Speaker 5: not be killed because somebody hits you from the flank,
- 24:54Speaker 5: because that's good. You may get killed going head to head,
- 24:59Speaker 5: and that's all all I'm thinking about.
- 25:02Speaker 6: I think that's why I was successful.
- 25:03Speaker 5: I was so conditioned, and I had such trust in
- 25:05Speaker 5: my team, and we lived it.
- 25:07Speaker 6: It was not a job for us, it was a
- 25:08Speaker 6: way of life, right.
- 25:10Speaker 4: The thing is, I mean every time before we step
- 25:13Speaker 4: out to go and do a mission, that was the
- 25:15Speaker 4: time when you put to bed those sort of emotions
- 25:19Speaker 4: and those things you know, you look the pictures of
- 25:21Speaker 4: my kids and what's important to you and making sure
- 25:23Speaker 4: everything squared away. And that's why I'm a massive, massive
- 25:27Speaker 4: advocate and push a lot about how important time is.
- 25:30Speaker 4: You know, that last phone call, making sure that we
- 25:33Speaker 4: weren't arguing, the kids weren't arguing. We're all happy. Listen.
- 25:36Speaker 4: You know, I wouldn't tell them what I was doing,
- 25:37Speaker 4: but I'd walk out. I'm getting dressed. The last thing
- 25:40Speaker 4: I'd do is I walked out of the room to
- 25:41Speaker 4: get on the helicopter to do whatever we were going
- 25:43Speaker 4: to do is look at those pictures of kids and think,
- 25:46Speaker 4: you know, that might be the last time I'll see them.
- 25:48Speaker 4: But then that's it. That's compartmentalized now and you're learned
- 25:51Speaker 4: to do that. I never went into any any fight,
- 25:53Speaker 4: any battle with that in my mind that I wanted
- 25:56Speaker 4: the kids again, that was already done. Once I've stepped
- 25:59Speaker 4: onto the alicopter.
- 25:59Speaker 6: That's it.
- 26:00Speaker 4: I'm in a different mindset, and it's it's it's kind
- 26:02Speaker 4: of selfish in many ways. To be fair, I.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Don't think so. I think that.
- 26:09Speaker 3: What you're doing is so unselfish that I feel like
- 26:12Speaker 3: you can't feel selfish doing that.
- 26:15Speaker 4: You had to want to do what you're doing and
- 26:16Speaker 4: believe because.
- 26:17Speaker 5: The glory, I think this is what's interesting by trying
- 26:20Speaker 5: to say, and this is some deeper ship right here.
- 26:22Speaker 6: We loved the edge.
- 26:24Speaker 5: That and the things that we could do because not
- 26:26Speaker 5: everybody could do some of the things. Well there's not
- 26:28Speaker 5: a lot of people that could do those things, and
- 26:30Speaker 5: we felt so freaking rewarded, not really with money, but
- 26:34Speaker 5: with each other, with you know, I.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Believed in what I was doing. I was going on
- 26:38Speaker 4: to make the world a better place. I was going
- 26:39Speaker 4: out to my sacrifice that I might not come back,
- 26:42Speaker 4: but I feel if I died doing what I'm doing
- 26:44Speaker 4: a good thing. I'm stopping a lot of people suffering.
- 26:47Speaker 4: And that's and I believe that that's what and that's
- 26:50Speaker 4: and that these these are some of these people are
- 26:52Speaker 4: going out to stop the suffering for don't even fucking
- 26:54Speaker 4: like me, right, they don't even know who I am.
- 26:57Speaker 4: But I felt, you know, this is the right thing
- 26:59Speaker 4: to do to go out there. So back to what
- 27:02Speaker 4: your question was, you know, those emotions and those feelings
- 27:06Speaker 4: we haven't and it was always nice to walk back
- 27:08Speaker 4: in the door that relief of I can talk to
- 27:11Speaker 4: him again. I'll get to see him again. But there
- 27:13Speaker 4: was always that moment of step off of that threshold.
- 27:16Speaker 4: That's it. I'm now focused on what I need to
- 27:19Speaker 4: be doing, and I believe in what I'm gonna do,
- 27:22Speaker 4: and I may not come back. That's the reality of it.
- 27:24Speaker 4: You know. I didn't let it play on me, And
- 27:26Speaker 4: there was no way every fight I got into my
- 27:29Speaker 4: Rudy's just saying, there's so many close calls, and there's
- 27:31Speaker 4: many times now I'll have a beer that the airs
- 27:34Speaker 4: on the back of my next dand I'm thinking, how
- 27:35Speaker 4: the fuck did I get out of that? I don't know,
- 27:38Speaker 4: but I think those moments those happen. You just get
- 27:41Speaker 4: on with it and later on you go, hey, not today, Satan,
- 27:44Speaker 4: I'm fucking coming home. And that was my that was
- 27:47Speaker 4: my way of getting you know. It's now when I
- 27:50Speaker 4: stand around in the bar and talk to my maids
- 27:51Speaker 4: and they go, how the fuck did you get out
- 27:53Speaker 4: of that? And I don't know.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sure you got.
- 27:56Speaker 4: I was supposed to, but I went in there. Sorry totally.
- 28:01Speaker 4: You know, folks, on what I'm doing my RT not
- 28:04Speaker 4: my life back all. And that's why now I was
- 28:06Speaker 4: just saying earlier, I'm my grandfather. I'm now being a father,
- 28:09Speaker 4: really for the first time, because when my kids were
- 28:12Speaker 4: growing up, I was literally from nineteen joining the regiment
- 28:16Speaker 4: in ninety two till when I left twenty ten, I
- 28:19Speaker 4: was on war footing all the time. I was never
- 28:21Speaker 4: on Wow, I never saw them grow up. And I
- 28:23Speaker 4: only really realized how bad that was on my kids
- 28:26Speaker 4: when my daughter started crying one night and listened to
- 28:29Speaker 4: me telling stories with buddies, and she said, I don't
- 28:31Speaker 4: know you, dad, I don't know anything about you all
- 28:34Speaker 4: those stories, and I realized it. I wasn't there. I was.
- 28:37Speaker 4: I was doing what I believe was right, fighting for
- 28:39Speaker 4: my country and fighting for a better world. So now
- 28:42Speaker 4: I spend every second I can with those grandkids. As
- 28:44Speaker 4: I showed you.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they're beautiful.
- 28:46Speaker 4: They just wrapped me around their finger. They fucking terrorized me.
- 28:50Speaker 1: But but you love it.
- 28:51Speaker 2: And I want to say before we move on to
- 28:55Speaker 2: your show, Special Forces, the World's Toughest Test, which if
- 28:58Speaker 2: you guys have.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Not watched, is fucking gnarly.
- 29:01Speaker 2: But I want to thank you both for what you do,
- 29:04Speaker 2: what you've done for our country.
- 29:08Speaker 1: And you know I took ocean. She's my four year old.
- 29:12Speaker 2: And there's this airplane museum in Palm Springs and they
- 29:18Speaker 2: were part of the military, you know, when there's a
- 29:20Speaker 2: lot of planes that they're like, if you donate money,
- 29:21Speaker 2: we can get this this girl back in the air.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But a lot of big boomed painted women on this side.
- 29:28Speaker 2: And yeah, exactly, or keeps your mind right. So I
- 29:32Speaker 2: don't know that's what I hear from the boys, but
- 29:35Speaker 2: I was trying to teach her that what we just
- 29:37Speaker 2: saw in the uniforms that we just saw, you know how,
- 29:40Speaker 2: And I'm trying to explain it to a four year
- 29:41Speaker 2: old that you know, when you go to school and
- 29:44Speaker 2: you get to play the people that were in those
- 29:47Speaker 2: planes and wore those uniforms, those are the people that
- 29:51Speaker 2: allow us to be able to laugh and feel safe.
- 29:55Speaker 2: So that, you know, was a special thing for me
- 29:58Speaker 2: because again, my father was one of those people. So
- 30:01Speaker 2: you're you're both very incredible, and I'm glad that we
- 30:04Speaker 2: got to talk about your backgrounds Now, let's get into
- 30:07Speaker 2: this gnarly show. First of all, I want to know
- 30:10Speaker 2: how it came to be. Did you guys pitch this
- 30:12Speaker 2: show or did people come to you and say we
- 30:13Speaker 2: have a concept now.
- 30:15Speaker 4: This show started in around about twenty sixteen in the UK.
- 30:19Speaker 6: Okay, it was called sas.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Hudares Wins, which it still is today. So it started
- 30:24Speaker 4: over there and it was the exact same show as
- 30:28Speaker 4: it is now, but it was with non celebrities initially
- 30:32Speaker 4: and just men. For the first couple of series that
- 30:34Speaker 4: it was non celebrities men plus women. You know, the
- 30:40Speaker 4: audience started to grow. Then it became we did one
- 30:43Speaker 4: series of non celebrities and then one of celebrities, and
- 30:46Speaker 4: all the celebrities that came on, all the money was
- 30:48Speaker 4: donated to charity at the time. So that's where it started,
- 30:52Speaker 4: initiated back in the UK long time ago, and he's
- 30:55Speaker 4: still running today and we are still part of that.
- 30:58Speaker 4: So I was part of it from the very second
- 31:02Speaker 4: series of the shows. I was asked to do the
- 31:05Speaker 4: first one. I said no, and then I joined and
- 31:08Speaker 4: did the Jungle of Ecuador. I can't remember what year,
- 31:12Speaker 4: twenty sixteen or something whatever, anyway, so that's where it started,
- 31:15Speaker 4: and he grew and grew and grew, and America came
- 31:17Speaker 4: over and watched the show and said, right, we'll replicate that.
- 31:21Speaker 4: They came back to the States, tried to replicate it.
- 31:24Speaker 4: It didn't really take off, so that died of death.
- 31:26Speaker 4: And then about three years ago Fox then looked at
- 31:30Speaker 4: the show went well, you know actually because then Rudy
- 31:32Speaker 4: had come on because at the time it was four.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Brits or Brits and they brought my crazy what the
- 31:39Speaker 5: hell is going on?
- 31:41Speaker 6: Yeah? Easy, John Rambo, you know what I mean. However,
- 31:46Speaker 6: the UK brother what a moment.
- 31:49Speaker 5: I'm telling you, dog, I walked the streets in London
- 31:52Speaker 5: and bugs, it's all over you like a cheap suit.
- 31:54Speaker 6: It's awesome. I won him over.
- 31:56Speaker 5: But this same team, this brother has been walking through
- 32:00Speaker 5: and teaching me the ropes from what almost five years
- 32:02Speaker 5: ago when I first came on over there. Fox really
- 32:05Speaker 5: loved what they were seeing. But the real magic is
- 32:09Speaker 5: our team and our production. It is a British production.
- 32:13Speaker 5: They really know how to keep it real. Yeah, and
- 32:16Speaker 5: they really know Yeah it's so it's a course, it's
- 32:19Speaker 5: not a TV show.
- 32:20Speaker 2: So because that's what I was wondering, I was like,
- 32:23Speaker 2: I wonder if at any point they stop and they're like, hey,
- 32:26Speaker 2: can we get that again?
- 32:28Speaker 6: Or is it So basically, it.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Can be anything from ten days to seventeen days, depends
- 32:35Speaker 4: on how many episodes I want to make. Okay, And
- 32:38Speaker 4: it's a course, so we are four drill instructures for
- 32:42Speaker 4: an easy word that these celebrities come onto. Our course
- 32:46Speaker 4: that is everything about testing people physically, mentally and emotionally,
- 32:50Speaker 4: just like joining the army or the military. And we
- 32:54Speaker 4: push these people from day one to whatever day they
- 32:57Speaker 4: get to and lift their lookie to the end. We
- 33:00Speaker 4: put them through every challenge that we've been through or
- 33:03Speaker 4: type of challenge to test them and push them through
- 33:06Speaker 4: their boundaries to scare the life album and but to
- 33:09Speaker 4: show them not to hurt them or not to break them,
- 33:11Speaker 4: to peel them back to their raw self and prove
- 33:14Speaker 4: to them when you say I can't do, we can
- 33:16Speaker 4: prove to you you can. Okay, and we do and
- 33:18Speaker 4: it's gonna hurt, but you can do it. So that's
- 33:21Speaker 4: what it is. That's all. It's a course. It starts,
- 33:23Speaker 4: it's filmed twenty four hours a day. There is no script,
- 33:27Speaker 4: there's no rehearsal.
- 33:28Speaker 2: So they're actually sleeping in that area.
- 33:30Speaker 5: They're living in the barracks, so they're shitting in the
- 33:34Speaker 5: freaking ship houses.
- 33:35Speaker 6: We're living in the barracks. We're running in the field.
- 33:37Speaker 1: It's what kind of food are they eating?
- 33:39Speaker 5: Basics, potatoes, carrots, and some kind of meat and some soup,
- 33:43Speaker 5: all right, And every couple of days that food gets
- 33:45Speaker 5: cut down, it gets less and less because the idea.
- 33:48Speaker 4: That the program is to find out somebody's true character, right,
- 33:53Speaker 4: And the only way you find someone's true character is
- 33:55Speaker 4: when they're tired, they're hungry, and they're uncomfortable. That shows
- 33:59Speaker 4: you true character. We can all look good on social media,
- 34:02Speaker 4: we can all look good in front of.
- 34:03Speaker 5: It when you're feeling great and you've had a night
- 34:05Speaker 5: of sleep and you've had plenty of food. When you
- 34:07Speaker 5: take away their sleep and you take away their food,
- 34:10Speaker 5: it's the closest thing we can give them to combat stress.
- 34:14Speaker 5: And you see the real people show up, and no
- 34:18Speaker 5: matter what, it's a positive thing.
- 34:20Speaker 6: I'll tell you what.
- 34:21Speaker 5: If the real person shows up and they're really kind
- 34:23Speaker 5: of a jerk or selfish or lazy, they haven't.
- 34:29Speaker 6: A chance to address it.
- 34:31Speaker 5: And if they don't address it so well, their cohort
- 34:34Speaker 5: and teammates, their platoon helps address it.
- 34:38Speaker 6: It really is.
- 34:39Speaker 5: A format and a culture that we know works because
- 34:42Speaker 5: it worked with.
- 34:42Speaker 4: Us, right, So back to the show. There's no script.
- 34:45Speaker 4: So they turn up and when we're there in front
- 34:49Speaker 4: of us, that is the only time we see them.
- 34:51Speaker 4: So how you react. What I'm telling you in shell
- 34:53Speaker 4: it not you, is how I will react to you. And
- 34:56Speaker 4: it's all filmed. Okay. When they go back to their
- 34:59Speaker 4: dormitory accommodations, we have no idea what goes. We're not
- 35:03Speaker 4: allowed to know what they talk about, what they talk about,
- 35:05Speaker 4: what they're doing. There's no narrative when the show starts,
- 35:08Speaker 4: there's no The narrative is built as the show goes on,
- 35:11Speaker 4: because something will happened in front of us, and we
- 35:14Speaker 4: may rip them apart, you know, get stuck into them.
- 35:17Speaker 4: They go back and they're fucking bitching and I'm gonna
- 35:20Speaker 4: go each of it. And that's when they start to
- 35:22Speaker 4: build a narrative. And then they may come to us
- 35:23Speaker 4: and say, hey, is it could you possibly interview number five?
- 35:26Speaker 4: They won't say why or what their story is. We
- 35:29Speaker 4: have to get that out of them in the mirror room, right,
- 35:32Speaker 4: and then that starts to build and we still don't
- 35:34Speaker 4: see that, you know, when you're in that room, that interview,
- 35:38Speaker 4: I have no idea about what you what's gonna come
- 35:40Speaker 4: out in your mouth, and we're not allowed to know.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Those are heartbreaking, by the way, heartbreaking, But that's the
- 35:46Speaker 2: opportunity for growth that I think is the most important
- 35:49Speaker 2: part of the show.
- 35:50Speaker 4: That is the show.
- 35:50Speaker 6: That is the real show.
- 35:52Speaker 5: The course and the gas chamber of the hand to
- 35:55Speaker 5: hand fighting, helicopter operations, high ropes. Those are taskers and
- 36:00Speaker 5: we're looking to put you under pressure and observe you.
- 36:02Speaker 5: But what happens in the mirror room is the magic.
- 36:05Speaker 5: And Billy Billy's very good at that. I've learned a
- 36:09Speaker 5: lot from him. I work normally on the mirror rooms
- 36:11Speaker 5: with him. It's very good at it.
- 36:12Speaker 6: But that's the magic of the show.
- 36:13Speaker 2: There is no script and they don't give you a
- 36:16Speaker 2: list of questions to ask.
- 36:18Speaker 6: No, they don't give that.
- 36:19Speaker 1: That's incredible.
- 36:20Speaker 4: We choose who we want to talk to because we've
- 36:22Speaker 4: watched them through the day, and I'll go right number seven.
- 36:25Speaker 4: She's she's there's something behind her. You know, we've had
- 36:27Speaker 4: such an experience over our twenty thirty years of being
- 36:30Speaker 4: in the military, you know, being in combat, being a
- 36:32Speaker 4: training people, you get to know people, you get to
- 36:34Speaker 4: beat people, and you could tell something's not right with
- 36:37Speaker 4: that person.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah, right, I want to have it.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Let's get her in tonight. Let's have a chat, Let's
- 36:40Speaker 4: see what's going on, and it's you know, we start
- 36:43Speaker 4: a simple process. Just make them feel calm that it's
- 36:46Speaker 4: not a police interview, it's a chat. Although it is
- 36:49Speaker 4: pretty intimidating whence two of us just staring at you. Yeah,
- 36:53Speaker 4: I mean that room is a magic room. Even if
- 36:55Speaker 4: you've come in there. If we had you in that
- 36:57Speaker 4: mirror room and you've got deep secrets you don't talk,
- 37:00Speaker 4: I will go to you. You will be talking about it.
- 37:02Speaker 2: I think you'd tell me to shut up and you've
- 37:04Speaker 2: heard it not I'm an oversharer.
- 37:07Speaker 6: Or you know. What's so wild is that we're you're.
- 37:11Speaker 5: The course is going to test to physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually.
- 37:15Speaker 5: The conditions we are in one hundred and twenty one
- 37:19Speaker 5: hundred and thirty degrees in Jordan, we're in one hundred
- 37:23Speaker 5: and ten degrees with one hundred percent humidity in the jungle.
- 37:27Speaker 5: We're in freezing cold, amphibious conditions. The nature of that,
- 37:31Speaker 5: which we kind of tay for granted, it was our
- 37:33Speaker 5: whole life was being pushed into extremity of conditions where
- 37:37Speaker 5: it's just our every day. But for civilians that have
- 37:40Speaker 5: never experienced it, they're freaking taking on so much. By
- 37:44Speaker 5: the time they get bagged and tagged and put down
- 37:47Speaker 5: sat before us and the freaking bag and goggles come off,
- 37:52Speaker 5: they are.
- 37:53Speaker 6: They just release it.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Shoka capture yep, they just release What's what they're really going.
- 37:57Speaker 6: To and they want to Yeah, well the.
- 37:59Speaker 4: Reason they've come exactly, and it's amazing to see it,
- 38:02Speaker 4: you know, and their backstories that most of them are
- 38:06Speaker 4: sad unfortunately, you know, they've been rayed or the lad
- 38:08Speaker 4: children killed or whatever it is. And like I said,
- 38:11Speaker 4: we don't know. Unless I know you personally or followed you,
- 38:14Speaker 4: I might know a bit about you. For me, because
- 38:17Speaker 4: they're American, I have no fucking idea. So whatever's going
- 38:20Speaker 4: to come out of their mouth is going to come
- 38:21Speaker 4: out of their mouth. And I'm like, whoa. Now for us,
- 38:24Speaker 4: you know, we're emotional people as well when somebody's talking
- 38:26Speaker 4: about their child dying or it's fucking hot, So but
- 38:30Speaker 4: we have to keep the poker face Okay, got it,
- 38:32Speaker 4: got it, And then we have to listen to that
- 38:34Speaker 4: story go a little bit deeper. Feel we need to
- 38:38Speaker 4: or get what we need out of them to make
- 38:41Speaker 4: them feel better, and it's you know, so we then
- 38:43Speaker 4: understand where they are any and then we have to
- 38:46Speaker 4: come out with some way of pick them up, get
- 38:49Speaker 4: them out. Let's get them fucking back on the feet.
- 38:50Speaker 2: I think that would be the hardest thing is once
- 38:52Speaker 2: they tell you such, I'm horrendered really to be like,
- 38:57Speaker 2: now go jump out of a helicopter and to freeze.
- 39:00Speaker 4: No, no, because now listen, you have just spilled your
- 39:03Speaker 4: whole life out and everything that's bothered you. Yeah, you
- 39:06Speaker 4: can't get any low on it. They come out, So
- 39:10Speaker 4: they walk out of that room, honestly, and yeah, you'll
- 39:15Speaker 4: see a total different person when they the next time,
- 39:17Speaker 4: seeing because they've got they felt good about. You know,
- 39:20Speaker 4: when you're in a situation in a relationship and you've
- 39:23Speaker 4: got something you really want to get up in the
- 39:24Speaker 4: chest and you don't, then it comes out, Genn, it
- 39:26Speaker 4: comes out with a fight and an argument, but it's
- 39:28Speaker 4: gone and then you think, I wish I'd have just
- 39:29Speaker 4: sorted that out earlier. Right, that's what that situation is
- 39:32Speaker 4: for them. So they come out and right, there's only
- 39:34Speaker 4: one answer to anything when you're in darkness, right, and
- 39:39Speaker 4: this is how we get through how I get through
- 39:40Speaker 4: it anyway, most of the situations have been in we've
- 39:44Speaker 4: been in as well. You know, you see them there
- 39:46Speaker 4: for bad, bad situations been there before, so we've got
- 39:49Speaker 4: some experience. Now, if you're start in front of me
- 39:52Speaker 4: spilling out your heart, your sadness, you're firstly in my head.
- 39:57Speaker 4: I'm going right, it's because something has happened. It's already happened.
- 40:01Speaker 4: That's the key. It's already history. It's happened. You can't
- 40:05Speaker 4: change it. Your child's died, or this has happened. It's done.
- 40:08Speaker 4: You can't change it. Okay, Now, of course it's hard,
- 40:11Speaker 4: it's difficult. Now. The only thing you can do now
- 40:15Speaker 4: is accept it is painful. But you've got to move
- 40:18Speaker 4: forward because time is all we've got. You've got to
- 40:21Speaker 4: pick yourself up and go. You know, I can't change it.
- 40:24Speaker 4: What can I do? I can make a better version
- 40:25Speaker 4: of myself and enjoy what I've got left, because we
- 40:28Speaker 4: don't know what we've got left. And that is the answer.
- 40:31Speaker 4: History already happened. Time is the most important. Pick yourself up,
- 40:34Speaker 4: move forward, and the easiest way or the best way
- 40:37Speaker 4: I always find to get people is all of a sudden,
- 40:40Speaker 4: turn it off as if it doesn't really matter. Of
- 40:42Speaker 4: course it does, but make them feel ship. Okay, I've
- 40:45Speaker 4: said it. Now let's go distract them from that sadness
- 40:48Speaker 4: into let's go it almost like breaking the reassurance, almost breaking.
- 40:53Speaker 5: That negative loop in there, and you know one of
- 40:55Speaker 5: us will end up and it's it's a it's a
- 40:57Speaker 5: fine line. When people start going so deep in the dark,
- 41:01Speaker 5: we know we're gonna freaking stop it right there, and
- 41:04Speaker 5: it's time to get serious because we still got a
- 41:07Speaker 5: lot of training to do, right or you see someone
- 41:10Speaker 5: actually being unburdened and they start to feel even a
- 41:14Speaker 5: little happy than one of us.
- 41:16Speaker 6: God, I mean, no matter what, we get them in
- 41:19Speaker 6: the now, it's the history.
- 41:21Speaker 5: We've we've all got scars, everybody in this room, we've
- 41:23Speaker 5: all been through things, we all got regrets.
- 41:25Speaker 6: But that's then we.
- 41:27Speaker 5: Need you here now now, Yeah, not just you, not
- 41:30Speaker 5: just you, but your team as well.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Let's go, how how do you guys pick the missions
- 41:36Speaker 2: that they do? And like, are there any that they
- 41:39Speaker 2: that you guys think of? And then go that is
- 41:41Speaker 2: way too dangerous.
- 41:43Speaker 6: No, no, we never say it's way to every production.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Sometimes everything they do we will do before and we've done.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Everything they do is based on something real that we've
- 41:54Speaker 4: done in the military. Well, you get production, the director
- 41:58Speaker 4: who's got this great idea and actually fucking stupid he
- 42:00Speaker 4: thinks is a great idea in terms of right, Billy, rudy,
- 42:03Speaker 4: what we're going to do today is this and we'll listen. No,
- 42:05Speaker 4: we fucking ain't. This is what we're gonna do, okay,
- 42:09Speaker 4: because I'll give you an example. You know, a lot
- 42:11Speaker 4: of my friends say to me, a billy, when in
- 42:12Speaker 4: the Special Forces, did you run up a hill carrying
- 42:16Speaker 4: tires and a log? Well we fucking didn't, did we.
- 42:18Speaker 4: But we run up there carrying amminition. That represents ammunition and.
- 42:22Speaker 5: Crew served weapons and massive machine Right, So when you
- 42:27Speaker 5: see carrying a big log across a big open field
- 42:29Speaker 5: and being shot at, that represents taking a body.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Off the battlefield, which we've done. You know, ab sailing
- 42:35Speaker 4: into the water, it's because it's covert. It's a sneaky
- 42:38Speaker 4: way of getting into the target. So everything they do
- 42:40Speaker 4: is based on something that we have done. And you know,
- 42:44Speaker 4: we don't know the time to explain every situation. But
- 42:47Speaker 4: it's it's all there to test people, you know, physically,
- 42:49Speaker 4: mentally and emotionally. You even scared of, you know, open spaces,
- 42:53Speaker 4: cold water heights or can find spaces, will test you
- 42:58Speaker 4: on every one of them. Find But we monitor everything
- 43:03Speaker 4: every single night. We have which never gets shown on
- 43:05Speaker 4: the show, when they go to bed after eighteen nineteen
- 43:08Speaker 4: hours of working, because that's every day what they do.
- 43:11Speaker 4: We've still got an hour and a half where we
- 43:12Speaker 4: sit and we'll talk about you. Right, where was she today? Yeah,
- 43:15Speaker 4: physically she's good. We don't need to push it any more.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Let's look at her mental side. What was she like?
- 43:20Speaker 4: She's petrified the fights. Okay, let's get on this task
- 43:23Speaker 4: tomorrow and make her do you know, and we'll but
- 43:25Speaker 4: we might not to hurt you, ought to break you,
- 43:27Speaker 4: push you to the point, and we might watch him
- 43:30Speaker 4: very very closely. Okay, she's give her a hundred percent.
- 43:33Speaker 4: She's past that barrier. That's we don't need to go
- 43:35Speaker 4: any further. She's done and that's and that's every single person.
- 43:38Speaker 4: That's why when they go, wow, how is this show? Fair? Affair? Show?
- 43:43Speaker 4: You've got you know, a six stone one hundred pound
- 43:47Speaker 4: young lady, You've got a fucking two hundred pound muscle
- 43:50Speaker 4: mud who can run all day. How is it fair
- 43:52Speaker 4: that they're both Well, it is because a muscle mode,
- 43:55Speaker 4: we'll expect him to run at fucking speed that we dictate.
- 43:59Speaker 4: The lady could just finish it. That's hundred percent. So
- 44:02Speaker 4: it's all balanced up. Okay, there's no concessions. Everybody does
- 44:05Speaker 4: the same stuff. But we do know where your hundred
- 44:08Speaker 4: percent point is. We know what yours is. And is
- 44:11Speaker 4: this different to mine?
- 44:13Speaker 5: Well, we all have strengths, and we all have strengths
- 44:15Speaker 5: and challenges. And what we find which is so magnificent
- 44:20Speaker 5: is the beautiful production and the shooters and the cinematographer.
- 44:25Speaker 5: As directors, they see the grandiose, gorgeous tasks from the bridge,
- 44:29Speaker 5: from the helicopter, these amazing underwater escapes and so on
- 44:34Speaker 5: and so forth.
- 44:35Speaker 6: What you see bring.
- 44:37Speaker 5: Out the best as a team and as an individual
- 44:41Speaker 5: is no tech at all. We simply have them carrying
- 44:44Speaker 5: boats and carrying equipment for long periods of time, and
- 44:49Speaker 5: the strongest people almost always burn out. The weak people
- 44:54Speaker 5: have to step up.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Do you think that's because mentally, maybe they feel like
- 44:58Speaker 2: they've got an upper hand, Like, for example, you've got
- 45:01Speaker 2: two ex football players this season. You've got Cam Newton,
- 45:05Speaker 2: who I know from he played for the Panthers, and
- 45:09Speaker 2: then Golden Tate, who I cannot remember, but I always
- 45:12Speaker 2: remember that fine looking face. I was always with his
- 45:14Speaker 2: helmet on. I was like, that's a fine looking motherfucker.
- 45:17Speaker 2: But I always wonder like, did they go in thinking
- 45:20Speaker 2: I've got this because I'm yes, I knew that Cam
- 45:24Speaker 2: was going to be an issue the moment you got
- 45:27Speaker 2: onto the boat and you go what's your name?
- 45:29Speaker 5: And he goes, Cam, I don't like your attitude.
- 45:33Speaker 6: Stop drop the attitude. Drop the attitude. Wamp No.
- 45:38Speaker 5: The football players have a rude fucking awakening on this course.
- 45:42Speaker 6: They always do.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a lot of It is a month thing,
- 45:46Speaker 4: it's a it's an evil thing. It's it's masculine. I
- 45:50Speaker 4: ain't I'm gonna be the tough guy instead of just
- 45:53Speaker 4: go with it, learn from it, get an experience, which
- 45:56Speaker 4: the women do. Everybody initially guarded and you've got it
- 45:59Speaker 4: because you think about I was I'm going to be
- 46:01Speaker 4: portrayed on TV. How are people thinking about me? After
- 46:05Speaker 4: the first day where we've stripped them naked and they're
- 46:08Speaker 4: all bare. They're covered up. By day two, I ain't
- 46:11Speaker 4: worried about No, they.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Don't care about taking a ship in front of everybot anything.
- 46:15Speaker 4: So those barriers are coming down. But yeah, some of
- 46:17Speaker 4: the men, it's still They've still gonna have these arms,
- 46:19Speaker 4: fucking tough and on this. But it's just a man thing.
- 46:22Speaker 4: I think it's the big ones. And then comes the excuses, Yeah,
- 46:27Speaker 4: oh my pants are two times a boot are too tight.
- 46:30Speaker 4: He's got high tuded with me.
- 46:32Speaker 2: I would have a really hard time complaining, knowing what
- 46:36Speaker 2: the two of you have been through.
- 46:39Speaker 5: What's so interesting is that the females are female recruits.
- 46:42Speaker 5: And you know, for the longest time, I didn't think
- 46:44Speaker 5: women had a place in Special Force. We've been fighting
- 46:48Speaker 5: with women in combat first long as I've been fighting,
- 46:51Speaker 5: and we have them as great helicopter pilots and fast
- 46:55Speaker 5: mover pilots, intel officers, females fantastic asset in the military.
- 47:00Speaker 5: But as far as tip of the spear, grindhouse, kick
- 47:03Speaker 5: the doors in, kill the bad guys, and do it
- 47:06Speaker 5: day in, day out for as long as it takes,
- 47:08Speaker 5: I didn't think women had the physical robustness. Not the mind,
- 47:12Speaker 5: but the physical robustness. I'll tell you what this course
- 47:15Speaker 5: has taught me so much. The women continue to surprise
- 47:19Speaker 5: me at what an asset they are because they are
- 47:23Speaker 5: flexible mentally. They do not take humiliation. Humiliation just shut
- 47:28Speaker 5: runs off of their back. They get up and go again.
- 47:32Speaker 5: They get their ass knocked in the dirt, get up
- 47:34Speaker 5: and go again. And we never hear the women make
- 47:38Speaker 5: excuses to We never hear an excuse from a woman.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Wow.
- 47:41Speaker 6: But the men we love to complain.
- 47:44Speaker 1: I've never felt prouder to be a woman.
- 47:48Speaker 4: That's not all the men. It's the same thing. It's
- 47:53Speaker 4: never he's fucking tough and I wasn't ready for it.
- 47:55Speaker 4: They'll never say that. It's always it's a personality clash
- 47:59Speaker 4: with one of us, or that's right. There's always an excuse,
- 48:02Speaker 4: and we always listen. We don't want fucking excuses. We've
- 48:05Speaker 4: heard them all.
- 48:06Speaker 1: Oh, we know, we've watched the show.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I'm like, if there's one thing y'all hate, it's an excuse.
- 48:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just because there is no there is no excuse,
- 48:14Speaker 5: you know what. We put them under duress and they're
- 48:16Speaker 5: they're little burgins. They're rucks thirty five to forty pounds.
- 48:21Speaker 5: Our combat kit meaning slick, like we feel like Ballerina's
- 48:25Speaker 5: out there running a gun in is like eighty pounds
- 48:27Speaker 5: body armor, ammunition, batteries, grenades, weapon, sometimes a second weapon,
- 48:32Speaker 5: sometimes a third weapon.
- 48:34Speaker 6: Water, And that's slick.
- 48:35Speaker 5: And then we rock up with one hundred and fifty
- 48:38Speaker 5: pounds on our back of batteries, water, explosives, ammunition, and
- 48:42Speaker 5: we've got to patrol when there's enemy out there looking
- 48:45Speaker 5: to kill us.
- 48:46Speaker 6: So we know what.
- 48:47Speaker 5: The body in the mind is capable of, right, and
- 48:50Speaker 5: so that's why there's no any you don't get sympathy
- 48:53Speaker 5: from us. We know what you can do. Holy smokes.
- 48:56Speaker 5: We didn't know how long our selection would be, Like
- 48:58Speaker 5: it feels like it's going to go on forever because
- 49:00Speaker 5: sometimes you're making it just hour by hour.
- 49:04Speaker 6: And we know that.
- 49:05Speaker 5: These these recruits only got two weeks at the most
- 49:08Speaker 5: with us. Anybody can get through two weeks of hardness anybody.
- 49:14Speaker 6: But to be fair, if you switch it on, I
- 49:17Speaker 6: don't doubt because we.
- 49:18Speaker 4: Do what we do, that's what we want to do.
- 49:20Speaker 4: We chose that life. We you know, we were tried
- 49:23Speaker 4: and tested and and sort of conditioned to do what
- 49:27Speaker 4: we do. That's that's our life, you know, to us,
- 49:29Speaker 4: the second nature. What's a big deal for these people
- 49:32Speaker 4: to step into our ring. It's a fucking big deal.
- 49:34Speaker 5: We do a lot of respect for that because they
- 49:37Speaker 5: are civilians coming into our brutal world.
- 49:40Speaker 4: But but it's you know, whenever someone that's a fairly
- 49:45Speaker 4: easy life and fucking happy to say that when if
- 49:49Speaker 4: if they can find one way out, easy way, they'll
- 49:52Speaker 4: take it. And that's that's what we were there to
- 49:55Speaker 4: stop that easy option ain't fucking there. You will be
- 49:58Speaker 4: here to the end, or you let it's too fucking
- 50:01Speaker 4: armfy and in your own band, and that's hard for
- 50:03Speaker 4: them to take that out.
- 50:05Speaker 2: And once they hand in the armband, that's like I'm done,
- 50:07Speaker 2: I'm out of here.
- 50:08Speaker 5: Everyone is exposed there everyone, And that's our job is
- 50:11Speaker 5: to expose you.
- 50:12Speaker 6: And it's because we want the best of you.
- 50:15Speaker 5: You cannot grow until you're stripped down to your honest,
- 50:19Speaker 5: authentic self.
- 50:20Speaker 6: And that's what we do.
- 50:21Speaker 5: And we're giving them an opportunity, really and we love
- 50:24Speaker 5: when they take it and they run with it.
- 50:26Speaker 6: We love it.
- 50:27Speaker 4: Yeah, And whether they leave on day one or day ten.
- 50:30Speaker 4: Everybody leaves a better version of this I can imagine,
- 50:34Speaker 4: you know. So it's not it's not a win lose competition.
- 50:38Speaker 4: It's about you becoming a better version of you. And
- 50:42Speaker 4: now whether that takes one ten part it doesn't matter.
- 50:45Speaker 4: You know, we'd like everybody to get to the.
- 50:48Speaker 1: End, right.
- 50:48Speaker 5: But Kyla Pratt, she was on the chopping block in
- 50:51Speaker 5: the first seven hours of the first day. I will
- 50:54Speaker 5: tell you what, that little freaking pocket rocket. It just
- 50:58Speaker 5: does not hot no how to give up. It's like
- 51:01Speaker 5: day seven or eight and she's still there.
- 51:04Speaker 1: You know what I love about her?
- 51:05Speaker 6: I love we love her.
- 51:08Speaker 2: I grew up watching Kyla Pratt, Like I watched she
- 51:11Speaker 2: was a voice of Proud Family. Like the moment she
- 51:14Speaker 2: was on, I was like, wow, how nostalgic, Like I
- 51:17Speaker 2: just remember loving her.
- 51:19Speaker 1: She's so funny.
- 51:20Speaker 2: But I loved what she said, she said, I'm doing
- 51:24Speaker 2: this because I think it was when she did the
- 51:27Speaker 2: in her you guys call it a mirror room, the
- 51:29Speaker 2: mirror room when she said her whole life, you know,
- 51:33Speaker 2: she's been a child actor and everyone has made decisions
- 51:36Speaker 2: for her. I never had to say yeah, And I
- 51:39Speaker 2: was like Damn, I cannot even imagine. Like that's when
- 51:43Speaker 2: I realized, Okay, this show is is well beyond what
- 51:47Speaker 2: you're capable of physically, but what you've been through in
- 51:51Speaker 2: your past and the little moments that really shaped who
- 51:53Speaker 2: you are that you want to shake the fuck off.
- 51:55Speaker 2: And like you said, Billy, it's history.
- 51:57Speaker 1: We got to let it go. We have to be
- 51:58Speaker 1: in the now.
- 52:01Speaker 2: In all three seasons, has surprised you the most in
- 52:04Speaker 2: the sense of I didn't expect you to get this far?
- 52:08Speaker 2: And who's the one that surprised you? Damn, I thought
- 52:11Speaker 2: you'd get further.
- 52:13Speaker 6: I'm with Billy on this.
- 52:16Speaker 4: There's a few for different reasons, and not all got
- 52:18Speaker 4: to the end. But I mean, Anna Brown was we
- 52:20Speaker 4: ever think called in the Special Forces? Try to be
- 52:24Speaker 4: the gray Man, mat gray man, gray one. What that
- 52:27Speaker 4: means is don't be seen, you know, at the front,
- 52:29Speaker 4: don't be seen at the back, stay in the middle,
- 52:32Speaker 4: just float along. She was the ultimate gray Man because
- 52:36Speaker 4: by about Dave threoever was looking and where the fuck
- 52:38Speaker 4: did she come from? I don't remember seeing her. She
- 52:41Speaker 4: was the classic.
- 52:42Speaker 6: We didn't even know she was there until day three.
- 52:43Speaker 4: She was kind of bimbled along and then all of
- 52:45Speaker 4: a sudden she started to rise but great gain confidence,
- 52:48Speaker 4: and she was kicking ass by the end of it,
- 52:50Speaker 4: really fucking good. But high Claster as the drunk on
- 52:53Speaker 4: the Titanic. So the Titanic's fucking sinking. Everybody's running for
- 52:57Speaker 4: the lifeboat and panicking. She's crashed around. We have a
- 53:00Speaker 4: fucking eder bros. Wondering why the boss closed. That was
- 53:05Speaker 4: on the broad and I'm like fuck. Then all of
- 53:08Speaker 4: a sudden she was like, bang, she's on it. She's
- 53:10Speaker 4: you know, smashing away, and ohh she was. So she
- 53:15Speaker 4: was one of those surprises.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Yeah, who were you shocked? Didn't go for it?
- 53:18Speaker 2: Like you didn't think they'd give up so soon, or
- 53:20Speaker 2: you thought that they would be capable of more.
- 53:23Speaker 5: Do you feel comfortable only because he let his anger
- 53:26Speaker 5: get a hold of him.
- 53:27Speaker 6: We were right there.
- 53:28Speaker 5: I was running this dang thing, and Billy and I,
- 53:31Speaker 5: I mean, we're very good teammates. I mean we're always
- 53:34Speaker 5: backing each other up because remember there's only four of
- 53:36Speaker 5: us and we're running, especially in the early days of
- 53:39Speaker 5: each season, it's twelve to fifteen recruits. It's a lot
- 53:42Speaker 5: going on, and and we were doing app sail Or
- 53:47Speaker 5: Aussie repelled down this massive bridge and it's scary and
- 53:51Speaker 5: it's stressful, what have you? And there's water below. Daz
- 53:56Speaker 5: started acting out on my stunt safe.
- 54:00Speaker 6: These who are.
- 54:00Speaker 5: Royal Marines and British Army, our brothers that helped set
- 54:03Speaker 5: up systems and rigs, our brothers on this thing, started
- 54:06Speaker 5: acting out. And he's a big, strong unit and he
- 54:10Speaker 5: pushed one of the camera people off there at the
- 54:13Speaker 5: bottom because he was in pain.
- 54:16Speaker 6: You don't think we've been in pain before? You up?
- 54:19Speaker 5: How about when we've been in the just in the
- 54:21Speaker 5: shoot house when the freaking hot brass goes right in
- 54:24Speaker 5: here and.
- 54:24Speaker 6: The brass is burning freaking blisters through you. Does that
- 54:27Speaker 6: mean that you take your head out of your rifle you,
- 54:29Speaker 6: or that you don't dig your corner? No, we go man.
- 54:32Speaker 5: We've been through a lot, man, and we know this
- 54:34Speaker 5: is just a passage and time. But he endangered some
- 54:38Speaker 5: of my crew with no hesitation.
- 54:40Speaker 6: I said, you know you you're not in control. We're
- 54:44Speaker 6: in control. And then I said throw him in the
- 54:46Speaker 6: fucking water.
- 54:47Speaker 5: Also, because I was thinking of safety, I did not
- 54:49Speaker 5: want him to hit or hurt anybody, and we've got
- 54:51Speaker 5: a safety boat out there, and I'm we're all rescue swimmers.
- 54:55Speaker 6: We can always rescue him, throw him in the water.
- 54:58Speaker 6: And then he's then he's f ash and harder. There's
- 55:01Speaker 6: fuck you, And then Billy smiles at me. Billy's like, mate,
- 55:05Speaker 6: are you ready?
- 55:06Speaker 5: And I'm like, I'm fucking ready, I guess, and mate,
- 55:09Speaker 5: he gets because it's going down, but he's like and
- 55:12Speaker 5: so Billy goes.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Billy likes when things like that happen, and you get
- 55:16Speaker 2: that exactly smile on your face.
- 55:18Speaker 1: I just can pictures.
- 55:19Speaker 6: So you know what, I took off my fucking top,
- 55:21Speaker 6: little raidcat.
- 55:22Speaker 4: You know what.
- 55:22Speaker 6: I'm like, all right here, I'm a fucking here, I'm
- 55:24Speaker 6: ready to go. I'm a fighter, you know.
- 55:25Speaker 5: But Billy smartly moved to the flank because if it's
- 55:28Speaker 5: going down, he's gonna hit him from the flank too.
- 55:30Speaker 6: No, it's really fucking going down. And he takes fucking out.
- 55:33Speaker 5: No, he comes walking over to me right and I
- 55:35Speaker 5: think it here, it is here, it is. And I'm like,
- 55:37Speaker 5: all right, all right, and Billy's right over here on
- 55:39Speaker 5: the flank, over the side, and then Das gets right
- 55:41Speaker 5: up to me and then he grabs his helmet and
- 55:43Speaker 5: throws it down and walks off, and we both have
- 55:45Speaker 5: to were.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Like kicked in towards that end where he was like,
- 55:52Speaker 2: I'm just gonna throw my home.
- 55:53Speaker 6: Yes, and we love the guy. He regretted it the
- 55:56Speaker 6: moment it happened. No, we love the guy, but it
- 56:00Speaker 6: just goes to show the shows.
- 56:01Speaker 4: It's no, there's no retakes. You've had your fucking moment,
- 56:04Speaker 4: and unfortunately blew it. And it was a shame because
- 56:06Speaker 4: he is a real nice won difference.
- 56:08Speaker 1: It's also very sexy.
- 56:09Speaker 3: But that's how it it exposes.
- 56:14Speaker 5: And he says he needs to work on his anger,
- 56:15Speaker 5: and that he's even in therapy working on anger, and
- 56:18Speaker 5: that he's had issues even professionally with it and at home.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Could he could he get another shot on the show,
- 56:24Speaker 1: maybe round Tail.
- 56:25Speaker 6: I'd love to have him back.
- 56:26Speaker 1: And I petition that right now on this show.
- 56:28Speaker 2: You guys got to bring him back season four. Yeah,
- 56:31Speaker 2: let's see if he got control of it. Yeah, I mean,
- 56:36Speaker 2: I think if he's if his biggest thing was anger,
- 56:39Speaker 2: let's you know, throw him back on see if he
- 56:41Speaker 2: got any control of it. That would be very interesting. Yes,
- 56:45Speaker 2: but I you know again all I do is podcast.
- 56:48Speaker 1: We'll let the professionals handle it.
- 56:51Speaker 4: The program follows the ethos of the proper Special Forces.
- 56:54Speaker 4: You know. That's why you'll see a one tone of
- 56:57Speaker 4: the film in the desert next all move in the
- 56:59Speaker 4: jungle would be it's exactly like the Special Forces is.
- 57:03Speaker 4: And so to that degree you talked about there when
- 57:06Speaker 4: I says selection, you allowed to two chances. So if
- 57:10Speaker 4: you failed, we go away for a period of time
- 57:12Speaker 4: and you then come back. But that's it. You'll only
- 57:14Speaker 4: get two chances.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Okay, So the three strikes here are no.
- 57:18Speaker 5: And in our selection, how many of ours A lot
- 57:21Speaker 5: of our bros get hurt. How many of our bros
- 57:23Speaker 5: during selection get freaking really hurt, break their legs, break
- 57:26Speaker 5: their own whatever, God, but you know what, they always
- 57:28Speaker 5: want to come back.
- 57:29Speaker 6: So we understand that.
- 57:30Speaker 5: And people do get hurt a lot in courses and
- 57:32Speaker 5: in selection and in courses because the nature of the
- 57:34Speaker 5: work that we do is dangerous. And then sometimes some
- 57:38Speaker 5: cats make it to the end. But the instructors, the
- 57:42Speaker 5: ds say they're just not quite either mature enough or
- 57:47Speaker 5: maybe a little too aggressive and not systematic and pragmatic enough.
- 57:53Speaker 5: Because we work in very small teams. We may be
- 57:56Speaker 5: hidden in a van for a direct action mission or
- 57:59Speaker 5: doing a sniper mission, and I'm pissing on top of
- 58:01Speaker 5: my freaking spotter and he's pissing on me for three
- 58:04Speaker 5: or four days and it's freezing cold, and nobody can
- 58:08Speaker 5: get mad, and nobody can get mad. We can't get mad, right,
- 58:12Speaker 5: you're fighting an enemy. We can't get mad about things
- 58:14Speaker 5: like that. So sometimes people make it to the end
- 58:17Speaker 5: and then they say you're not exactly.
- 58:18Speaker 6: What we want.
- 58:19Speaker 5: But then they come back again, Wow, I mean it's
- 58:21Speaker 5: only you know, two shots, And some people after the
- 58:23Speaker 5: first time they say, I don't think this is for me.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Mean it is intense.
- 58:30Speaker 2: And as we talk, I keep thinking, I'm like, do
- 58:33Speaker 2: I fucking like put it out there that I want
- 58:35Speaker 2: to do this show just to test myself.
- 58:37Speaker 1: I don't know. I need to sleep on it.
- 58:39Speaker 2: Guys, before we sign off, I want to know, if
- 58:43Speaker 2: you could pick anybody to be on season four, who
- 58:46Speaker 2: would you like to see?
- 58:47Speaker 4: Gordon Ramsey.
- 58:49Speaker 6: Oh my god, that is a great one, great one.
- 58:53Speaker 5: There's word on the street, this wonderful man with a
- 58:57Speaker 5: great attitude.
- 58:58Speaker 6: He's very successful.
- 59:00Speaker 5: He's a football player, Okay, tom Brady wants to come.
- 59:05Speaker 4: Oh he does.
- 59:06Speaker 5: Tom Brady wants to come. I think it'd be fantas.
- 59:09Speaker 5: Of course, the ratings will be through the roof. We're
- 59:11Speaker 5: gonna do ten seasons dog after.
- 59:13Speaker 1: That, but that he would be speculata.
- 59:16Speaker 5: Well, I know, he just want to test himself and
- 59:19Speaker 5: he's a team player and he will be challenged. Nobody
- 59:22Speaker 5: handles cold water very well. Nobody handles skins.
- 59:25Speaker 3: He played like his mental toughness is what would get
- 59:29Speaker 3: and his care for team.
- 59:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it would be wonderful.
- 59:32Speaker 4: But that would be interested to see if it is.
- 59:34Speaker 4: Because has he really been tested at that level.
- 59:36Speaker 6: We don't know.
- 59:37Speaker 2: I doubt know because I immediately go to, okay, well,
- 59:40Speaker 2: if you throw him in really cold waters, I mean
- 59:44Speaker 2: he played in uh New England, that.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Place is pretty freezy. But again they're like that's nothing.
- 59:51Speaker 3: Yeah, like submerging or just like getting hit with snow.
- 59:56Speaker 4: You know.
- 59:56Speaker 2: Gordon Ramsey would be iconic, and then having Tom Brady
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: would be.
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: Maybe Mike Tyson as well, that would be Tyson.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Yeah, wow, oh my god.
- 1:00:07Speaker 6: I want to lay him for his heart, for his soul.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: Yeah, especially going out the way he went out with
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: that Paul brother he.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Finished, that's all that matters.
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: Well, no, that's what I was gonna say. I think
- 1:00:19Speaker 7: one of the Paul brothers would be interesting on this
- 1:00:21Speaker 7: show to the ego guys.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and then maybe both of them.
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: Yeah, and then Billy. I would love to see you
- 1:00:26Speaker 7: and Gordon Ramsey face off man after watching you with
- 1:00:29Speaker 7: Steven Baldwin and just saying who's your brother? Oh you're
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: you're you're brosn actor. Oh yeah, Alex Balden, Oh he's
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: mid just shoves him right on the I would love
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: to see you do that to one of the Paul brothers. Oh,
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: Tom Brady, He've won seven or eight Super Bowls, Get the.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: Fuck off my phone.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: That so good.
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: That would that's the reaction. I want to see Tom
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: Brady under just him getting criticized, shoved little, and see
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: how he responds.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: I feel like he would take it like a champ.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: I feel like he would be humbled, but.
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: I don't really, I don't know.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: I think I would.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: Find get him on the show because I think you
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: would break him mentally.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: Everybody would expect him to do so well, and when
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: he finds you fucking cold, wet and tough.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: It might be oh fuck, I think you force him
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: to ship in a hole.
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: Or you know how many times? How many times Billy
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: have our recruits like.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: Hemmed and hawed and pitched the biggest freaking fit and
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: try to get contact agents about the food for their
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: special dietary needs. Holy shit, you know, I slaughtered goats
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: when we were fighting in Iraq because we were so
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: far ahead of everything. There was no food, so we
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: had to freaking kill and goats taste like shit.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: You got to eat them, but you're hungry.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: What is this like?
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: Are we talking you like sushi style goat or would
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: you make a fire?
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: We'd make a fire.
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: But I mean, I mean if Iraqi goats are not
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: exactly known as cuisine for you know, it didn't matter.
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: We have to go out to eat.
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: But these recruits, and they come from good backgrounds and
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: and maybe some wealth.
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: They're used to they're just used to.
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: Have much more polished, much more I don't know, manicured.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: You nothing manicured about what we do.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: Not at all, not in any sense of the word.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: I had the bust.
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: I'm really really grateful that you guys made time to
