• 2:38
JK, what is that all-important call-in question of the week for next show, show number 66?
• 2:43
If your fairy fat mother appeared and granted you one wish for any existing new fat bike available right now, which fat bike would you ask for?
• 2:54
Call in next week, Wednesday, from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM Central Standard Time to 818-918-2453. That's 818-918-BIKE. And let's discuss.
• 3:09
Yeah, that's, and we can do that question after Interbike, too. So it's, like, the pre-Interbike one. Oh, right. And then- Don't make me a liar [laughs]
• 3:20
Well, we kinda have to change it because r- uh, in the question it says it's actually available now. So in- Or-... Inter- Interbike bikes aren't really available right now... we can do it again They're- Or-...
• 3:28
available next year But we could do it, we could say what new bike- Are you all stoked about? Yeah. Put it in front of me and- If we do it in December, it might, there might be s- something available, Neil.
• 3:39
[laughs] This is your fairy fat mother speaking. [laughs] [laughs] Yeah, I've been working out. Yeah. Yeah, I'm feeling all right. Yeah. Feeling kinda slender. I actually got complimented on my naked torso by...
• 3:53
well, cousins. [laughs] Nice. Using a f- Every word, every good word fucking feels good All right, this show just took a definite turn for the weird. [laughs] Hey, you wanna join in your weirdness?
• 4:06
Grab your socks and holes and pull. [laughs] 818-918-2453. There you go. Welcome back to the show, everybody. [laughs] Where are we now?
• 4:17
Um, well, we're still on the hunt for regional reporters who can call in with a report about what's happening in the fat bike world in their neck of the woods.
• 4:25
If you're interested in being an on-scene call-in reporter, let us know by sending your story to info@fat-bike.com.
• 4:33
Use the subject line Fat Bike Ambassador, and we'll get back with you and talk about how we can bring fat bike action in your area to the ear holes of every American.
• 4:43
Yeah, man, there's 50 regional fat bike groups on Facebook.
• 4:46
If you run one of those, you know, you could, you could stop talking into your computer and start talking into your phone, and then there'll be, like, three wise guys on the other end, and there's, like, our three listeners.
• 4:58
Shit, that's a party right there. Right? And you don't even have to, you can still do it in your underwear, right? Yeah. Eat a little more, you got yourself stew.
• 5:06
[laughs] Da-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na- Listening. The ship is listening... na-na-na-na-na-na. [knocking] Somebody's at the studio door. Uh, I'll go get it.
• 5:22
I'm Fatman, and this is my sidekick, Ronin. Wait, sidekick? I thought I was the s- Kickstarter project. I only heard the word kick. We'll talk about this back at the fat cave. Well, we better.
• 5:36
Well, Ratman, what can we do for you and Ronin? I'm Fatman with an F, like fun. Fartman would've been a better superhero name. Fartman was already taken.
• 5:53
We're here to tell the kids to stay in school and ride their fat bikes all year long
• 6:04
And wear a helmet and leggings, but primarily wear a helmet That's right, and shin pads [laughs] [whooshing] Whoa. They've gone. I have a feeling they'll be back.
• 6:22
Fat Man and Ronin, ladies and gentlemen. [whooshing] [laughs] [claps] Dong. I'm hitting the thing with my finger. [laughs] Hey, guess what? We got some callers. Should we see what's up? Yeah, let's see. Hell yeah.
• 6:37
Let's talk to the peoples. Hello, peoples. Who do we have on the line? This is Joe Boo, fellas. Joe Boo. Joe Boo. Hi. How you boys doing? Super. How are you? Awesome. Um, I had a
• 6:53
pit stop at the park with a ri- on a ride with the kids, so I'm doing all right. I figured I'd give you guys a holler. Killer, man. Yeah. How, how's the riding been up that way? Not bad.
• 7:03
I've been working some odd shifts, so I haven't been getting out as much as I can, but it's not bad now that the heat has gone. It's probably coming your way. Yeah, we have a little bit.
• 7:12
It's not, it's not super grim though, really. It's, it's bearable. Bearable. It is, it is what it is. You got it. Yeah. It- So you wanna chime in on- I got a question today. Yeah... chime in on that, Bad Oscar.
• 7:24
Yeah, the, the, the USA Cycling, they need to leave it alone. There's already a, there's already a fat bike, uh, shindig in, in your guys' state there. They just need to back off. That's how I feel.
• 7:36
Everything they touch turns to crap. [laughs] Sorry to be blunt [laughs]. No, no, we want people to be honest. Blunt instruments are good. I'm gonna start- Yeah, for sure... okay. I'm gonna start a tally. Oh, good idea.
• 7:48
Da-dun, dun, dun-da-da. Do you have a 40-foot-long scroll? [laughs] Not too long ago you couldn't, uh... You had to
• 7:57
build your fat bike up from bits and pieces and wait months to, to build it together, then all of a sudden you can go buy, uh, one o- o- off the shelf all, all ready to roll, and, uh, then USA Cycling gets interested in it.
• 8:11
Nah, I'm sorry. I don't buy it. [laughs] Well, I, I like that people can go in and buy a fat bike that'll fit their needs pretty easily- For sure... off the showroom floor now. Um, I think- For sure...
• 8:20
that's a great thing, for sure. J- uh, Joe Boo, did you do ever any, like, local series races or anything like that where you worked with any kind of organized bicycle racing competition?
• 8:32
Uh, in the past, um, oof, in a, in a very long time. [laughs] All of us. A, um, a long defunct, uh, series called the Blast. Okay. It's actually in southern Minnesota. Cool.
• 8:44
And then, um, a couple of the Cogs-sponsored races in, down Duluth area. Very good. Uh, Minnesota Mountain Biking Association, I think. And all those guys are- Yeah... they're running fat bike events too, aren't they?
• 8:57
Yep. Some, especially Cogs, I think. We've- Yeah... seen a couple of events from them and, you know, I mean, in the, in the end- Good boys, they really...
• 9:05
I'm, I'm, I'm gonna weigh in just with one thought on this, and it's not like a pro or con thing necessarily, but I really think supporting the local races in your area with people, you know, y- that are in your neck of the woods is a great thing to do.
• 9:19
And, uh, you know, if it's a competition, some people are gonna take it seriously, but a lot of people are just there to have fun, you know? Oh, yeah. And I think supporting it at the local level- 100%, right...
• 9:28
is super important. That's, that's what I'm saying. Yeah. When I go to a race, I wouldn't call it a race. I'm there, I'm there to have a good time. Oh, yeah. So- Yeah, me too... right there with you.
• 9:38
I, I don't know, you know, that's, that's, that's the way it is. I'm gonna, I'm gonna be probably dead freaking last and not really care, 'cause, um, that's where all the fun is, at the back of the pack in my opinion.
• 9:49
Yeah, back there with Puck and Chad. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. At the back of the pack.
• 9:54
But I mean, like you, like you said, the, the more people on fat bikes the better, and, uh, it, it is a good thing that you can just walk in and, and roll one right out,
• 10:03
you know, be it a big box store or your local bike shop, you know, whatever flavor you want, whatever price range you have. But I'm, I'm not a fan of USA Cycling. All right, so that's a, that's a not a fan. Right on.
• 10:16
Yep. What, you got the tally at one? I got the tally at one. I, I tallied you- [laughs]... as, as one against as well. Well, it wasn't totally against. Yeah. But that's only 'cause I'm waffling. I'm not a hootowl.
• 10:26
  No, that was- [laughs] Yeah. I, I'm, I'm, I don't... I, can I say I'm against it? Yeah. I'm not really a big- If you're against it...
• 10:32
I've never been a fan of USA Cycling for any kind of racing, even 30 years ago, so I'm still not a fan, and it really did kind of irk, I think, the community, fat bikers as a whole, that they really waited until everybody was doing it, essentially, to jump in, and they didn't support it at the local level- They-...
• 10:51
before... they waited until we used the term US National Championship. Yeah, that's probably true. And then they were like, "Well, we, we gotta do that." "That's ours. We, we own that.
• 11:02
We're the Fat Bike National Championship." With how many people versus a thousand people? Uh- In the national championship last year, there weren't that many people...
• 11:10
there, there might've been, uh, generous I would say 250 people in every category. Right, okay, but the elite c- category was like 15 or 18 people or something? 12 men and- Yeah... four women. Okay. So.
• 11:24
Well, at the, uh, at the Fat Bike Birkie, I think a lot more people have a chance to be up in the front of that race, and then there's a whole bunch of people just having a good time. Like, yeah.
• 11:33
Not like at a place where there's only- Yeah... 18 people out there. [laughs] Well, Joe Boo, we appreciate your callin', man. Yeah. We got another caller on the line. All right, fellas.
• 11:41
So we're gonna, we're gonna roll over to the next caller from up Alaska way. We're gonna send you back to Uncle Dick and maybe send you something. [laughs] All right. Thank, thank, thanks, Joe Boo. See you later, fellas.
• 11:50
We'll see you. All right, man. Yep. All righty, all righty, all righty. It's Sven, Gomez, and JK in the studio. Who do we have on the line? Travis. How you guys doing, man? There he is. Travis. Every- What's up, buddy?
• 12:03
Every week Travis. Hey. That's awesome So Travis- So- What do you think about US- USCF? What? You, what do you think [laughs]- UFC? USA's- USA Cycling. USA Cycling. UFC innovating- What did I say? USCF.
• 12:17
It's United- Yeah, that's not the United States Cycling Federation anymore. It's what? Oh. Or whatever. It's USA Cycling- USA Cycling... or the f- the National Championship people. National championships are gone.
• 12:27
[laughs] So what's up, Travis? Uh-oh, we lost Travis. Overload. [laughs] All right. Boom. I'm gonna, I'm gonna hijack that one [laughs] out of there. [laughs] Back with it? Back with us, Travis?
• 12:45
Hey, guys. Yeah, I think our intern- Yeah... pushed the wrong button in there and, uh, kinda, kinda relegated you to the screening room. Dang it, Rich. What are you [laughs]... I can't... A- all right.
• 13:01
Rich, knock that off [laughs] in there. [laughs] He's an in- Rich... he's an intern, ladies and gentlemen. That's, that's Uncle Dick in the other room, by the way.
• 13:09
He's, uh, Uncle Dick's bead slips sliding in here to give us a little help with the screening room. We're, um, just kinda learning how that works, so.
• 13:17
Yeah, and what- Have fun talking to Rich if you can actually talk to him, but stop stealing our calls, Rich.
• 13:21
[laughs] And what that does is it allows us to send you back after you talk to us on the air, then we can send you back to Rich, and he can get your address, and then we can send you [laughs] lingerie, lingerie breakers.
• 13:35
We can send, we can send you lingerie pictures of JK Living [laughs] or- There we go... or whatever. PO boxes are not acceptable. Big... Well, maybe. I don't know. Well, you can't send that stuff to a PO box.
• 13:47
[laughs] No. I just watched America Book of Secrets or something like that. Oh. All right, Travis, your turn. What do you got going? [laughs] Yeah, what, weigh in on the question, Travis.
• 13:59
Uh, the question, I don't really have a dog in that fight. I haven't raced a bike since the early '90s, but, uh, you know, it sure seems to me like the fat bike community as a whole
• 14:10
has spoken, you know, with 1,000-plus people showing up at the Birkie and, you know, 100 or so in Utah, and I, you know, if USA Cycling wants to get involved in it, yeah, don't jump in it and call your stuff a national championship when there already is one in play.
• 14:25
Yeah, man, and you guys have just- You know, they're doing stuff at the local level or, you know, if they're getting...
• 14:30
It, I'm all about anybody throwing a race and people showing up and having a good time and, you know, either racing hard and being competitive or just enjoying themselves.
• 14:38
But yeah, it sure seems just one national championship, but it sure seems to me that the fat bike community has spoken on what that is. Yeah, man, the, the Alaskan racing is so vivid and so,
• 14:50
so equally balanced between men and women, and I mean, uh, you guys run a, run a race right in town that got 400 entrants is, and [laughs]... Sorry. Entrants is- Yeah, it's- You know.
• 15:09
What's the name of that race? Yeah, Frosty Bottom. My, I- Frosty Bottom, that's it. I do plan on doing that this year.
• 15:14
I, I am gonna race in the Frosty Bottom and, uh, you know, certainly don't expect to be at the forefront of any pack, but I'm gonna go do it and have a good time and snap a bunch of pictures so I can, uh, do a little write-up and send- Sure...
• 15:27
you guys some, hopefully some good pics. Man, we are just having all kinds of- Technical glitches... technical glitches. [laughs] Technical gi... [laughs] Yeah, was that your speaker turning off or something? Yeah.
• 15:37
[laughs] How was that sound? Ay caramba. That was- Yeah, that was a natural sound coming out of my body. That was a good sound. That was good. Hey, uh, Travis, we got another caller.
• 15:45
You wanna hang on the line and we'll, we'll catch up with you in a couple of minutes? Yeah, sure. All right. Hang on. Sure. Unless, uh, Uncle Dick stea- [laughs] steals you from the line again.
• 15:54
[laughs] Hey, hey, we got another caller on the line. Who are we talking to? This is Natalia Mendez. You may know me as Giant Mendez. Nat-, uh, yeah. Hey, hon. Thanks for calling. How's it going? It's going pretty well.
• 16:09
Just got back from the bridge in Minneapolis on the bike. Cool. Hey, uh, Natalia is actually our new apparel editor. Apparently. She's going to- Yeah... uh, she's gonna be, uh, putting you up on the catwalk there soon.
• 16:26
Mm-hmm. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Well, yeah, great that you're gonna be doing this, Natalie. It's awesome to have somebody that's interested in, you know, helping- It's Natalia. Natalie. Natalia. Thank you, Gomez.
• 16:38
Yeah, I got it. Thank you, Gomez. I just rab- rattling through my brain. She's gonna- Natalia... she's gonna pedal through. She's gonna pedal through. Oh, my God. Day one. Is, what, what, what rhymes with Sven? Natalia.
• 16:50
Well, I'm excited. Natalia. No. [laughs] Oh, man, we, we d- All right. We'll- We love you, Natalia... we- So, you know, d- even if- Travis saying, "Tell me. What's up?" Ri- Rich tried to steal Natalia as well. Uh-oh.
• 17:06
[laughs] Oh, he's, so you're playing like a video game over there. He's pushing buttons, and I keep trying to get him back on, so. Natalia is back. I'm back. You're back. So- Hi...
• 17:15
you wanna chime in on our, uh, this week's question about how you feel about- Sure... USCF or USA Cycling? Sorry, I, I keep on, I'm, I'm living in 1986, man. [laughs] Right? It's a pretty good year.
• 17:28
You and, you and, you and Brent Emery can hang out there. [laughs] It was a pretty good year. One time. I keep going back there.
• 17:33
Oh, so how do you feel about USA Cycling entering fat bike racing with the national championships? Oh, man, it's kinda hard to say.
• 17:43
I think it's okay because it has a certain kind of protection for the racers, but it's also kind of limiting for those who don't wanna buy a license and spend, uh, you know, even more money than, you know, some fat bike races are.
• 17:58
Well worth it, mind you, but, uh, sometimes the licensing gets a little pricey pricey. Sure. Uh- Yeah... I'm on the fence. So are you gonna be our first caller to actually fall directly right into the neutral?
• 18:12
So, 'cause I, I'm actually, if I had to weigh in, I would have to say that I understand one whole side of it, but- In the back of my mind, the thing that makes USA Cycling,
• 18:28
i- their involvement good is we could have fat bike racing in the Olympics if- Whoa... that happens. You know, they have to be involved for that to take place. Ooh. Well, in that case, I'm on board, man.
• 18:44
[laughs] I guess I don't, you know- I don't know... my, my involvement with USA Cycling is cyclocross- Sure... when I'm not on the fat bike in the winter, so, and I'm so not even, like, Olympian gold.
• 18:55
So [laughs] I don't think that far, but it would be great to see fat bikes in the Olympics. Yeah. Right. I mean, it's not that inconceivable considering BMX made it in. No. And BMX started when I was- Sorry, man... a,
• 19:10
a teenager, you know? So- Yeah... only about, oh, 40 years ago. But there's still time. [laughs] There's still time to get fat biking on the, uh, Olympic roster. And it would be, like, 10 sports, man.
• 19:23
It wouldn't just be, well- [laughs]... fat biking. It would be the 5,000 meters cross country, the 10,000- Oh... the 50,000, the marathon, and then it would be- I wanna see-...
• 19:34
border cross and- I wanna see fat bike sprints, man. These, I wanna see fat bike sprints on, like, heavy steel fat bikes. That would be, like- [laughs]... some Clyde Dale stuff.
• 19:45
[laughs] Well, you shoulda been at Sea Otter. That's amazing. They had fat bike gold sprints. Yeah, they did. Oh, wow. It's true. Sven beat, Sven beat me. I got wound up.
• 19:55
If you guys wanna send me to Sea Otter to ride fat bikes for Fatbike, I'd be happy to do that for you. Well, dang. [laughs] You're just tiny enough to fit in one of my duffle bags. [laughs] Woo! [laughs] I'm on board.
• 20:08
Let's do it. You might wanna wear a sweater- We need, um- 'cause it gets cold in baggage I hear. I don't know. [laughs] Throw in some, like, batteries- Car is full... and I'm good to go.
• 20:17
[laughs] But that goes right into your whole apparel editorship, lady editor of Fatbike.com's apparel empire, you know? I guess. Sweaters and muffs and boots. Tukes. [laughs] Muffs.
• 20:35
[laughs] Hey, I meant it in, in the purely Christian muff. [laughs] Me too. Me too. I mean, I don't know what else that could potentially mean. Balaclavas, you know- Yeah... all kinds of stuff. [laughs] Delicious.
• 20:49
Keep you warm. [laughs] Balaclavas. Man, I love Greek food. Yeah. Balaclavas are great. It's like a baklava with holes cut in it for your head. [laughs] So- But I'm so excited. This is gonna be good.
• 21:02
It gets real cold here, and also real hot right now. Um, so it's a pretty ideal place to be testing all kinds of gear. Cool, man.
• 21:09
I've been going through my contacts, and we have, Club Ride is another one that we didn't even think of that, uh- Yeah, they're- Cool... they got good stuff... I've been thinking of their stuff. I, I love their stuff.
• 21:19
I like their, uh, I like their little western-y stuff. I hope they're still doing that. Yep. Yeah, sure they are. Yep, the New West and the Go West and the Jack Jack. I, I gotta, I love those.
• 21:29
Yeah, and, uh, also, Natalia, we have to put together some sort of a Christmas wish list for the- Yeah... fat bike- Wish book... finery. That's a good idea- You know?...
• 21:42
'cause, uh, it's not that far away from the old Christmas season. Right on. Oh, we should- Oh, yeah... that means snow. We should bring a tree in here already just so we can kinda think about it.
• 21:52
Isn't it over in the shop? It's, uh, well- I know, man. I'm excited... it's like six months. It was just Christmas in July, like, three days ago. [laughs] Sure was. Single Speed USA is next weekend.
• 22:01
I'm gonna, think I'm pretty sure I'm riding my Pugley up there. I love it. Dude, I'll be there. Cool. So- Yeah, we'll be there. Single speed. Single speed. We can, we can strategize.
• 22:10
I think they have me slated to be the referee for the roller derby finale. Oh my God. Cool. Oh, something, something you're, you're well-suited for. Exactly. Heck yeah. I can throw some elbows.
• 22:24
Uh, you would, you would be a good, what do they call it? A jammer. You would be a perfect jammer. Mm-hmm. That'd be a good one. [laughs] That's like, that's, like, the person that scores all the points.
• 22:34
The little one, the one they throw. Exactly. They sling you through and you, like, just shoot between people's legs and et cetera. [laughs] In the Christian- Heck yeah... in the Christian way, once again.
• 22:45
[laughs] Of course. The only way it would ever be at Fat, Fatbike.com ever. In- indeed.
• 22:52
So Natalia, we have another caller that wants to weigh in on our weekly questions, so, uh, you keep on rocking in the free world, and we will check you at Single Speed USA, man. Killer. Peace.
• 23:04
Look forward to seeing you guys. Have a good one. Thanks, Natalia. See you. Bye. Bye. You're tuned to Fat Bike Radio. Welcome to Las Bicicletas Gordas.
• 23:20
That's the radio show- Oh, did, [laughs] did I freak you out? I, I speak in tongues. You guys, like, try to knock my ear off or what? [laughs] Oh, it's Chewy. Chewy. What's up? How are you, fellas? Good.
• 23:35
What's happening? Um, how, how has this been going so far? Uh, it is- It's-... it is 3 to 0 with, uh, Natalia- But don't, don't tell him which one is-... with Natalia and I-... which way it's going yet...
• 23:46
are being neutral. [laughs] I, I feel strongly both... Well, I actually, I- Objection. There's a- I feel-... leading the witness.
• 23:53
I feel strong- [laughs] I feel strongly negatively, but I got this one thing that I dream of that, that- Being a fat bike national champion. [laughs] Oh, no. All right. So, so I got two things to say.
• 24:07
First of all, Dick cut me off, so I was listening to- [laughs]... Fat Bike National talk with Dick. That's stupid. [laughs] Uncle D- Uncle Dick is doing his best. [laughs] You need to feed him more beer.
• 24:22
[laughs] We gave him a, we gave him a high life. [laughs] It's already mean. [laughs] Just enough to piss a guy off when you try to highlight. [laughs] Oh, hey, we got the new thing going here in Rochester, Kirkland.
• 24:37
Oh boy, I tell you. Oh. Is that- That's a lot of fun... is that available only at Costco? Yes, and I couldn't pass it up 'cause it was like 20 bucks for a 48 pack. [laughs] Yeah. And what's the- Oh... verdict on it?
• 24:52
What's that? What is, what's the verdict on it? Is it worth the, worth the solid 20? It is worth the solid 20. It's like, it's not bad tasting. It doesn't taste like anything.
• 25:02
[laughs] So it's the perfect schooling after a bike ride beer. Is it like 3.2 beer too, so you can do like 30 of them in a day? No, that's Utah. I think so. I think I could have drank the whole case.
• 25:12
[laughs] At that price you could actually take a bath in it. True. That's where that Special X bar was going to. Oh, is that on top? Ah, yes. Hey, Gomez, what did you think of the bus I, picture I sent you?
• 25:24
The bus picture you sent me? I didn't get- This is not fatbus.com. [laughs] I, I, I sent. [laughs] Uh, did you just recently send it to me? I, I... Yeah, like when you and I were messaging this afternoon. All right.
• 25:38
Well, I, I, I can look right now. Unless I sent, unless I sent it to somebody else. Oh. Oh, my, how embarrassing. Uh. [laughs] Hold, hold my mail, man. I have to get out of my other thing and- I'm...
• 25:52
Oh, hey, people have been messaging me. Crap. I'm, I'm porn sexting or bike sexting you. [laughs] All right. All right. Okay. Oh, hey, here it is. So, so my... Here's, here... That's gonna be at Single Speed USA.
• 26:06
Oh, dude. I bought a ride in there. [laughs] Is it, is it like, is it all ice on the inside and we can play? It's got a fricking bar, it's got a bar in there and tables and it's completely- Oh, they told me about this...
• 26:18
closed, but it's awesome. Is it like a RAGBRAI style bus? Yeah, it's an old school bus and a trailer. It is a RAGBRAI. It's one of the- It's a RAGBRAI...
• 26:24
guy that, the guy that runs the m- the guy that runs the men's hockey tournament in Rochester bought a bus and takes like 30 people on a RAGBRAI on that. That's the way to go, boy. They got a trailer behind it. Yeah.
• 26:33
It's, it's totally... And, and it's a diesel rather than a gas powered one like we used to have where you would keep blowing it up. It's way better set up. Yeah, man. Interesting. That looks kickass. And they...
• 26:44
So- Well, I'm-... anyway, back to your subject- Yeah... since I've got to run this show, 'cause you guys don't seem to have a ch- idea what you're doing. [laughs] Thanks. Thanks, man. That's why- Yeah...
• 26:52
that's why we have you calling in. [laughs] That's, it, the r- it really is all about the caller anyway, so. We could... Does, does, does- It's, it's, it's- See, it's, it's easy to shut us up.
• 27:01
All you have to do is call in and you do the talking. We'll be the dummies that sit back here and don't say anything. [laughs] Okay, so what little bit I heard of what's going on, first of all, Gomez, you're wrong.
• 27:13
Who gives a fuck if, if fat bikes race in the Olympics? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard of. That's not what fat bikes were meant for. That's not their purpose. Fat bikes are meant to go out and play and have fun.
• 27:27
Go really fast if you want to, race if you want to. It's not, I shouldn't say it could people probably get pissed. It's not a serious machine. [laughs] It's your choice in what you want to ride. Right.
• 27:36
Just like a single speed. You know, that's the way I look at it. There shouldn't be a classification for it except for we do race them in the snow. But other than that, it's a single speed.
• 27:45
It's your choice of a bike that you ride on and that you want to race. I got that. And the only reason I- Totally... and the only reason I think US, USAC wants it- That's it... is because there's money involved.
• 27:59
[laughs] There, there, there's money involved in it, and they got those douchebags in, in Ogden all convinced that they are, they are fat bike national championship area, and they're not. It's coming- It's ridiculous...
• 28:12
it's coming to Grand Rapids after this year. Yeah, that, that, that is something. Yeah, but then it's going back to Ogden, but then it's going back to Ogden right away again. Is it? Yeah, I didn't read that far. Yeah.
• 28:27
Well. [laughs] It shouldn't- Well- They... Well, it, well, I don't know. You know what? Here, here comes the other pi- part of it. They, they have a,
• 28:34
what you choose to ride on for a course in a fat bike, you know, if you think about when we used to ride in the winter around here before there was fat bikes, we rode our mountain bikes with snow built trails. Why?
• 28:44
Because that was the only thing, snow pack that we could ride with those tires. Sure. Now that we have fat bikes, we can ride most of the trails. You know, look what we did for the race we put on.
• 28:55
We did it strictly out of the mountain bike trails. Right. So we, we packed them down with bikes, and that's where we did the race.
• 29:00
It was a mountain bike race on the snow with fatter tires so we could go through the snow. That's the way I look at it, not the groomed thing with a fake jump and, and people wearing Lycra. That's not, that's,
• 29:13
that's, that's, I don't know. That's just a world, a world that I don't even want to fucking ride in. So now let me ask you this question.
• 29:19
And- Does USA Cycling hold a national championship for single speeding, or have they actually stayed, got, you know, kept their filthy mitts out of it? No, I think they do have one.
• 29:34
I think it's in along with something... It's like every other race. I think there's a single speed category. Yeah. But it's just not- You know, so they got their category... it's just not respected the way that,
• 29:43
and, and celebrated the way that Single Speed World Championship. There's no tattoo. There's,
• 29:49
you know, it, it- Well, no, and, and, and if I, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm probably not because I've never been wrong in my life- [laughs]...
• 29:55
but the whole idea behind, be- behind Single Speed U- Worlds and Single Speed USA and everything else is basically making fun of professional racing. You know? The first guys that did Single Speed
• 30:10
Worlds, the whole idea was it, it was, uh, get there, get on your bike and go ride your bike, and we're gonna go race someplace, and we're gonna go and we're gonna have a good time, and we're gonna put on this race, so you're gonna get a tattoo, and there's gonna be paper plates for licenses, and that's the way it was set up.
• 30:25
It was supposed to be like an underground race. They wanted to keep it that way. And that's- And you have to admit, it's grown to
• 30:33
almost to the point where it's, it's not even close to what it was, what it was originally intended to be. Sure. Absolutely. Well-
• 30:42
But- I think that we probably just- It's very- I, I think it's just gonna work itself out, though.
• 30:46
I think that people, uh, after a few years when they only have a f- handful of people show up, of course you're always gonna have [laughs] those people out there that are like- Right...
• 30:56
"Well, I, I wanna be national champion." It'll, it'll, it'll, it'll, it'll be, it, well, it'll be like everything else out that way. It's their national championship because they think they...
• 31:05
And it's not everybody, 'cause, you know, most of those guys are pretty decent guys and we do go out there and ride with them. But it, you know, the powers... And here's the thing.
• 31:12
I haven't talked to anybody from USA Cycling since they bought NORBA way back when, and they've, they, they were polite enough to meet with Gosen and I when we ran the point series in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
• 31:24
Mm-hmm. And they were polite enough to meet us at an airport at 7:00 o'clock in the morning as they were passing through. Right.
• 31:29
So we quick took off our jobs and went up to meet those guys, and their first statement was, to us was, "We are going to fix everything that's wrong with mountain biking." Hmm. [laughs] Oh.
• 31:38
And, and that- It's a little arrogant, isn't it? Yeah, so I... Oh, yeah, and, and, you know, and it's, and it's maybe not the same people per se, but it's the same fucking attitude, and now they're doing fat biking.
• 31:49
Yep, their version of it. And it's just- That's for sure... yeah, you know.
• 31:52
And, and it's not, you know, and don't get me wrong, there's pro- they'll probably get 300 people to the race out there because any, any guy that's got any kind of engine for legs can get out there and jump on a fat bike at their course, ride it and, and ride it fast.
• 32:07
Yeah. And that's, and, and, and maybe that's, maybe that's fine for OutWest, and maybe that's fine for USA Cycling, but for, like, us, that's no fun. No, I agree. We're on the same page. So- Yep...
• 32:19
I, I call it let's go play bikes, you know? Right. Uh, I'm not serious- Yeah... about any of this stuff. But I also, you know, I, I try and keep an open mind, and I'm a, I'm a sucker for Olympics. I always have been.
• 32:31
So to see a sport that I love so much on the screen, I might be 90 year old, years old- Mm-hmm... when it happens, but I think it would be pretty cool. I would, I would poop right in my robe.
• 32:43
[laughs] I, I think that, you know, I don't know- Which is pretty cool... that this isn't like a USA Cycling thing, but I think they kind of ruined the Olympics by splitting winter and summer. Yeah.
• 32:52
'Cause it was cool that it only happened every four years. Mm-hmm. And then, you know, when we were growing up, that was, you had to wait to see it on the television.
• 33:00
You couldn't go on the internet and get it and watch 28,000 hours of coverage and all that.
• 33:04
And I'm like, I really liked looking forward to it, and it was just that period of time, and, you know, it was done and- Well, okay, l-
• 33:13
and, and here's, and, and Gomez, here's what I think is gonna happen if they, if fat biking becomes an Olympic sport. It's just gonna be did you watch the mountain biking when it was in, was that in the UK?
• 33:22
Where was the last one? Oh, the last one with that kind of interesting course they had? [laughs] Was that London? Yeah, it was like- No, it was Scotland or somewhere, I think.
• 33:31
Oh, they, like UK- Yeah, but wouldn't it be-... like the Scotland UK Yeah, it was a UK- Wouldn't it be neat, like RockHarbor in the middle of a great-... somewhere in the UK... field and stuff? Yeah, yeah.
• 33:37
But didn't it look to you like they were trying to make it look like Tour de France? Well, it was- And now it's gonna be- [laughs] When-...
• 33:43
it's gonna be mountain biking, but it's, but the coverage was like Tour de France, and now they're gonna do the same thing to fat biking and you're happy with that? That would be exhausting.
• 33:50
Let's- I just, just stay away from it. You know what I'm saying? Just stay away from it.
• 33:53
Leave the fat biking to the adventure racing people, you know, the guys that run IditaBike and, and, um, and, you know, the guys at Bichuan we get and all that kind of stuff. Leave it to those guys.
• 34:02
And- Yeah, I really think-... and start doing that Out West and start doing it Out East. That's, that's what that race should be. Here's my question. Why haven't they done this?
• 34:08
Why haven't they got involved in gravel road race? I don't know. Do they, do you think that they don't think there's money to be made? Because I have spoken- 'Cause there probably is. Well, maybe.
• 34:18
I, I just talked to Skogen- [laughs]... and they never approached him about it. So a monzo that draws a thousand-plus riders has never been approached by USAC to sanction their r- their gravel road race.
• 34:31
Well, he's probably dancing the jig right now and saying, "Hallelujah. Don't come in my backyard." Well, literally he was, he, he was just here at my house.
• 34:40
I was, we were just talking about it, 'cause I, I didn't wanna say. I think they approached Guitar Ted about it. Really? I think I'd heard one time that, that, that Trans Iowa had been approached about it.
• 34:50
And I know, um, uh, Todd, the guy that runs Epic Races out, you know, 24 Hours of Moab- Sure, oh yeah... and all this, I, I know he was approached by it. Hmm.
• 34:58
And, and those are the races that definitely shouldn't, anything that's an Epic Race should not have anything to do with USAC. Hear, hear.
• 35:05
I have to dis- agree with your last caller that, that USAC will protect the riders. That's bullshit. Well, they've, they- They, they're all, they're in it-... provide insurance... they're in it to make a format.
• 35:16
Well, sure, but, but their insurance will still cost more than if we went out and insured ourselves. Right. Right. I'm not- So, so that's, that's just-...
• 35:23
you know, the cost is, is, I think to her point, but at least that was what I got out of it, is that they offer insurance, whereas, like a lot of races that, heck, I've run, I don't charge anything.
• 35:34
I only ask for a donation, so I don't have insurance, a permit, or anything because it's all just volunteer, right? So let's- Right. And- Or general disclaimer. You go and like just sign this. Right, waivers. Wa- waiver.
• 35:48
Uh. You might die. You're on your own. You're on your own. So, you know, I- And actually, last time- That's-...
• 35:53
last time I remember anybody trying to do a claim on that insurance policy to get to USAC, it was, you, you didn't get dick out of it. Right, yeah. I mean, you- That's where the rubber meets the road...
• 36:02
you had to get a lawyer to turn around and sue them to try to get any money out of it- [laughs]... for a broken arm. It was ridiculous. Right. So, um- Yeah, well that's, that's, that's the whole thing...
• 36:08
you know, that- Insurance is fine and good, and then [laughs] the, the real test is when you actually have to- To use it [laughs]... have a claim, so. Yeah.
• 36:15
And I, and I- And you as a race promoter better have a good insurance policy on yourself, that's for sure. Yeah. Yeah, that's for sure. Well, Chewy- But- You ray of sunshine, you... I would be interested- [laughs]
• 36:28
You know that- Like if-... you know, feline AIDS is the number one killer of domestic house cats in the United States every year. [laughs] Wah, wah. So- I'll see you guys in two weeks- Yeah...
• 36:42
at Speed USA I will definitely be there. Sven has not- You know, I'm not s- I don't, it's probably not- Sven doesn't-...
• 36:48
because I'll be out of town this weekend, and the following after that, uh, sing- the single speed weekend, so that's tough on the family. Thank you. But I'll be there. I'm, I'm g- Gomez will be there...
• 37:00
I volunteered to, uh, to help out. Okay. So. Oh, good. I'll put you, I'll put you at a, uh, I'll put you at a aid station. Killer, dude. However you need me. Yeah. I'll put you- I'll be ready for anything.
• 37:11
I'll have my utility belt. [laughs] Excellent. That's what I was hoping for. [laughs] All right. I'll, I'll see you guys. Thanks for calling, Chewy. All right. See you later. Yep. Bye.
• 37:23
So on the tally, I think Chewy's call is, like, 10 votes for no. [laughs] Probably. [laughs] The lean in. [laughs] Just kept hitting the button.
• 37:33
Well, there's not a, there- Register, register, register, register [laughs]... there, there still is not a solid yes yet. There's some kind of wavering yeses, but not solid. Yeah. I, I am not a solid yes.
• 37:41
The only thing that I, you know, that's, the, my only thing is the Olympics, 'cause I love the Olympics. [laughs] I only love the Olympics in- Have you ever seen, like-... I'm dating myself.
• 37:52
[laughs] 1984 when they- Really? Like, it was totally, Dirty Ron's would do the thing. You'd get the, uh, this is the event. Oh. If the USA gets, uh, gold, you get a Big Mac. Get- Silver, some fries... a Big Mac.
• 38:07
And, uh, fries. 1984. I remember, I remember Bruce Jenner. And- And, uh, even before that, man. Uh- It was, it, that, that was- Have you ever seen Olympic, Olympic badminton?...
• 38:16
the most interactive, that was the only Olympics I ever really paid attention to. [laughs] Well, I'm all alone on an island, Olympic Island. Tra- Travis is still, uh, lurking. What's up, Travis? Not much.
• 38:33
How you guys doing? [laughs] How many beers have you drank, Travis? Uh, I, uh, started out with a Tallboy IPA from King Street up here in Anchorage, one of my favorite breweries, and, uh, just hitting number two. Nice.
• 38:49
Just hitting number two right now. King Street, they've, they must have been holding out on me on that one, man. Or is that a newer brewery? Uh, no, they've been around a while, man. Yeah.
• 38:58
If, if nobody swung you by there last time you were up, we'll make sure you get there on your next trip. Killer. So, what's the, have you heard- Yeah, it's, uh, it's my favorite local IPA. Sorry, what's that?
• 39:10
Have you heard, have you heard anything about the, uh, the big, uh, expo, man? [laughs] Kathy Merchant's, uh, big bike show that's gonna happen in Anchorage.
• 39:23
I, I shot her an email volunteering my services with the expo, and she's- Mm... looking for some guides for some local ride stuff. So- Cool... you know, I volunteered myself for a shorty.
• 39:34
[laughs] I don't wanna take anybody on a 50-mile ride, 'cause they're gonna leave me behind. [laughs] But, uh- I always say if somebody ta- Yeah, she just replied back that, that she's... What's that?
• 39:45
I was gonna say that, you know, if I go on a 50-mile ride, basically you're just gonna cut me open and live inside me like a Tauntaun. S- that's how, that's how the ride ends. [laughs] For Gomez.
• 39:56
[laughs] I'm right there with you. We, we will save lives in our cavities. Mm. Ah, I smell death- I was-... from the outside. [laughs] Ah.
• 40:07
[laughs] So, uh, Kathy, Kathy and you are gonna work together, and, uh, you're gonna have a full report for us later down the trail. Absolutely, yeah. Killer.
• 40:17
Yeah, she replied back that she's training and racing in Colorado, and, uh, when she gets back to Anchorage, uh, we're gonna meet up, and yeah, you know? Uh, I'm all about volunteering for that. Killer.
• 40:29
Uh, I think that's really cool that she's putting that together in Anchorage, and, uh, uh, excited to see how many people in town actually show up for the big, fat ride, not to mention, you know, people that might come from, from the far corners of the world to check it out.
• 40:44
Sounds like a good opportunity. You know, this week your assignment should be to find Nicholas Carman and Indian le- wrestle with him, like best two out of three falls. [laughs] Is this someone you met in Anchorage?
• 40:59
[laughs] Yeah, that's the, uh- [laughs] He's, he's a serious bike packer. Uh, Lael Wilcox's, uh, boyfriend, old man there. [laughs] He works at, he works at the specialized dealer right do- right in Spenard.
• 41:15
The name escapes me. Yeah, that... Oh, yeah, yeah, the bicycle shop. That's, that's, uh, where I bought my last two bikes at. Right on.
• 41:23
So bring your bike in for a tune-up and say, "Hey, you get, you got a young man here named Nicholas Carman. Gomez sent me in here to In- didn- you know, In-din...
• 41:34
Is it okay to say Indian or Native American wrestle with you?" How about just leg wrestling? Is, does it need- Oh, leg... does it need a, a, an eth- an ethnicity? Oh, there you go.
• 41:42
You could call it Arabian leg wrestling, and then the feds would be involved, but it's okay. Just take- So that's your assignment. [laughs] All right. Should you- I'm gonna go leg wrestle Nicholas.
• 41:56
[laughs] See if he goes straight through the shop wall on the first set. I'm, my money's on you, Travis. Pics or it didn't happen. And, uh, I don't know. [laughs] I guess we'll, we'll post the odds on, on our site. Cool.
• 42:11
We'll see- Good idea... off-track betting and- [laughs]... whatever else can get us in trouble. How's that sound? [laughs] Well, c- can we set up our own rules that he doesn't know about, like nut punching is fair game?
• 42:23
Now, now, now, it's a Christian show. [laughs] You have to go with cup check. You don't go on the attack. You're asking if they have defenses. [laughs] And testing defenses, so it's not really being active, see?
• 42:37
Nick's, Nick's, Nick's a cool cat. He'll- I'm up for it... you'll, you'll like him. You wanna jump? And you will crush him. All right. Well, we'll be back with the Fatty Farm Field Report right after this.
• 42:50
[singing] [upbeat music] Chumba USA builds innovative, technically superior bicycles that are race ready, ride driven, and tested to withstand the harshest conditions and tackle the toughest and roughest terrain.
• 43:09
Learn more about Chumba's American-made Ursa, and coming soon, Ursa Major, at chumbausa.com. [upbeat music] Hi, this is Eric from Surly. Beanbag chairs, lava lamps, pintos.
• 43:26
Those things and more on Fat Bike Radio with Gomez and Sven. And we're back. This week's Fatty Farm Field Report is sponsored by Uncle D- Uncle Dick's- [laughs]... I tell you, I will smoke the cigarette [laughs]
• 43:44
He's in the other room- Whoops... and he's like, he's like, "Damn it." [laughs] Treads are on it. "Damn it. Why do they have to ruin the name of my sponsorship?" That's- So it's, it's actually Uncle Dick's Bead Slip.
• 43:55
You can check them out at http:/, no, I missed a colon. It's uncledicksbikeshop.com. [laughs] Oh my God, how much of our show is just JK and I laughing?
• 44:11
[laughs] Most of it ends up on the cutting room floor. [laughs] Oh my God. I missed the colon. [laughs] Dude, Sven, what's up in the farmy fatty faral, faral, farf? Farfy fam field re flimin.
• 44:27
Uh, last week we mentioned that there is, uh, a, an event up in the Twin Cities, uh, in association with the Down Syndrome, um, Association of Minnesota, and they're having a raffle for this thing called the I Can Bike Camp, where they use bicycles to teach people with disabilities about, you know, how to ride a bike.
• 44:46
And, uh, there's still, I think, a day left, so check out the, uh, URL on the old show notes and enter a raffle to potentially win a Bear Grease. Right on.
• 44:55
And it's, they're only selling 100 tickets, so it's- Yeah, if they haven't already sold them all already. Right. But I mean, it's
• 45:01
g- it's a good cause, and if they still have tickets, boy, that's a pretty good, pretty good odds. And they're gonna give away the bike regardless of how many tickets they sell. So maybe even a better chance.
• 45:10
So one person buys a ticket, damn it. [laughs] If you bought, if you bought two tickets, imagine the odds then, or two and a half. Imagine. Do the math. Click the link. Hey, JK,
• 45:21
I saw your f- new frame bag on the Instagrams on the old, uh- Yeah, I noticed... Well, the thing was, I noticed it in the email that you sent me. Yeah. And I didn't notice it on the- You didn't see it in Instagram...
• 45:35
in the Insta, what- whatever. It's- You have to follow him... it w- well, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And, but it was funny, 'cause I was just like, "What? What are you talking about?" [laughs] I'm like, I'm like, "What?
• 45:43
Is it, like, out in the world, like, running around, like, got legs?" Skynet self-aware these days. Yeah, exactly. Right in on your frame bag. And I saw it. So, uh, it's here. Yeah. On your bike, yeah.
• 45:57
I see it from here. It's actually- Yeah... gonna be, are we gonna take a shot of it and, uh, make it the, make it the Fluty Flute picture? Sure. Sure. Yeah, you can see JK's frame bag on the, uh- It's the frame bag...
• 46:07
right, right, right up there at the top of the page. [laughs] Right on. It's- [laughs] Yeah, yeah. May- maybe by the, uh, little white sandwich bread that I ran over.
• 46:15
[laughs] It's a- It will, like, come off my damn tire. [laughs] It's an ATM Handmade Goods custom bag made by- Andy the master. Yeah. So how was Andy to work with? Yeah, very cool. Very cool. Uh,
• 46:30
gave a ring, and, uh, just through email picture interaction. Very smooth, yeah. It's like, yeah. Well, yeah, and I, it's like I don't know how he, you know, somebody works, and I'll, um- He's laid back...
• 46:42
how I think either. Right, right. So it's kind of like, "Hey, where are we gonna meet [laughs] on the playing ground?" [laughs] Has a, has a lot to do with the bag making process- Yeah...
• 46:51
though, that, that person that you deal with, with how patient they are, et cetera. Yeah. Articulate, pa- handsome And it, it looks really good, too. Yeah. [laughs] Looks like you did a fine job from- Yeah, yeah...
• 47:01
from the initial inspection that we did. Yeah. So JK's gonna do a little write-up on that, and he's actually- More to come... it's going to be- Dun, dun, dun...
• 47:10
done in f- a full traditional musical fashion, like the mus- the great musicals of the '40s. [laughs] At your, at your dis- With a top hat... at your discretion. [laughs] With a top hat and a cane.
• 47:22
[laughs] A little frog with a top hat and a cane. I think you got me with that one last week. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, guess what? Chicken butt?
• 47:32
[laughs] We have a new fat-bike.com apparel editor that called in the show earlier. Right. Yeah, we talked a little bit about it back then, Natalia Mendez. Right. Going to be in charge of our cycling apparel testing.
• 47:47
Right, Natalie. What, what gives her the qualifications to be our apparel tester? She's tiny, first of all. [laughs] She's tiny, and the, the girl blogs, like, a thousand- Wee... a thousand words about
• 48:03
her breakfast burrito, man, so- Awesome... with skills like that- You need fast typing fingers... and I think she's locked into the, the Minneapolis cycling scene. That's cool, yeah. She commutes every day.
• 48:17
Uh, she has a big group of friends that, uh, can do great testing up there. Sounds good. It's a great area to do some testing. They've got everything from hot weather to freezing cold winter.
• 48:27
So all you fat bike fashionistas out there, you can look for- forward to seeing more from Sven, JK, and I on the catwalk. Dress me up like a Ken doll.
• 48:42
[laughs] S- so this week I also d- you know, everybody's getting ready for the big shoe out there- Getting ready to shoe...
• 48:50
in the desert So, uh, we've been touching base with a bunch of our, uh, our friends, and I talked to Greg Mattis from Fatback. And Fatback has some pretty interesting and exciting things to show us at Interbike.
• 49:04
Sounds good. And, uh, in other industry news, our friends and sponsors at Surly have a new marketing director, Christina Julian, moving from a project manager position to the new Tyler.
• 49:22
The new... Tyler's actual card said Marketing Stooge. Right. I'm not sure what, uh, what Jules is gonna pick for her title. We'll just call her Marketing Director, or the new Tyler. Right.
• 49:35
That'd be a nice, nice- New Tyler. [laughs] So her husband's also at that, uh, at the Q mothership there. I believe that, uh, she is married to the tall and, uh, red-bearded Mr., Mr. Julian. Mr. Justin Julian. Mr.
• 49:53
Justin Julian. I always think of cowboy boots when I think of that- [laughs]... 'cause of those, uh, 'cause the Justin Boots, you know? Right. Sure. I had some Justins in the closet, I believe. Lizard skin.
• 50:03
[laughs] Of course you do, uh, Mel de Barca. Li- [laughs] You have every pair of shoes ever. This is not entirely true.
• 50:10
So- So do you think those guys were married before they started working at Q, or do you think they met at Q? And had a Q wedding. And had a Q... How many Q weddings do you think there have been? [laughs] I don't know.
• 50:19
I bet there have been more than one. I think we should do- There's a lot of people who work there... a reality show on the romances of Q, or not.
• 50:25
Or actually, since Surly sponsors this show, we should probably start brown-nosing right now. They're the best company in the world. Is that what you would be doing? I love steel bikes.
• 50:35
[laughs] You look very nice today, Sister Jules. That's very sincere. And smiling, nice sincere smile. So on a, on a further note, I have like, I, I have this whole segment.
• 50:47
I'm just- Yeah, well, you've been doing stuff... I'm hogging. I'm hogging. Yeah. 'Cause, 'cause you've been doing stuff- Right. That's fair... and, you know, it kind of was all packed in a nice little- Yeah...
• 50:54
sh- short-ish distance there. So on Tuesday, Borealis leaked a photo of their new fatbike on their Facebook page, the Crestone. Crestone.
• 51:04
I was there last Friday, and I got to ride a Crestone when they were completely super secret. You had to have top secret clearance to know that. So I was pretty cool for a couple of days. I knew stuff.
• 51:19
Uh, there'll be much more to come on that new Borealis. It's a kind of a common theme this, this, uh, this time of year. Everything is, "Well, you'll hear more soon-ish-ly." Oop, I almost went into fat man there.
• 51:35
[laughs] Wait, do I have to go choose your- Fat man is back... choose your own adventure and go back to page 12? And then I don't know if you guys, uh, are friends with Rob "Shuggs" Hoffman. Yep.
• 51:47
Uh, he had a horrible bike accident and is recovering from a, a brain injury. So we wanna send some healing vibes out to him, and prayers go to his recovery and to, uh, buck up his family and- Yep.
• 52:03
Candy's an awesome person, too. I mean, they're a, a great- Yeah... they're a great couple. I, we, we love Rob. And- Part of the Wauwatosa local mofos here, so- Yeah... heal fast, my brother. Heal fast.
• 52:16
Which brings us to- The linkages... speaking of, no. [laughs] You're wrong, sir. No? [laughs] Stop you there. All right. Stop it. Stop it, see. Stop. Sven and I did our due diligence during this Riverwest 24 season.
• 52:34
Wrap the moist. Oh. Wrap the moist. Yeah, we rode that race. I remember that. It was hot. It was very hot, very moist. Wrap the moist. [laughs] Worked out that way. Lived up to its name. Oh my God, it was ridiculous.
• 52:46
You still have Wonder Bread stuck to your tire from the race. [laughs] Yes, I do. [laughs] Wait. I, I, you, well, and I used a toothpick. I didn't wanna get too aggro with it.
• 52:55
[laughs] First time you ride on snow it'll go away. Snow somehow cleans your tire like a m- like a mo- Yeah... boat. Or any kind of moisture. Repetitive rain, and there was no rain to be found.
• 53:08
I was actually looking for rain, for damn sure. Yeah, we were looking for rain in the middle of the night. It was supposed to be like- Yeah... a three-hour rain- It just never broke... never show. Never broke.
• 53:14
It just kind of, kind of stopped before it got to Milwaukee. Humid. I wanna ride in the rain. Yeah. I'm stand, I'm just standing here not doing anything, sweating profusely. [laughs] It was humid. At the same time.
• 53:25
Um- So the, last year you did solo, right? Yeah. So y- and you haven't been on a team before with other people, right? No, no. What do you think? Are you going solo again next year? Uh, tempted. I don't know.
• 53:38
Yeah, it was a good- There, there was a little- It was a good r- Yeah... it was a good event. We had a lot of fun, and, uh, even managed to not totally suck at it. But- Yes...
• 53:45
it will- So there's, there's gonna be another one, because last year- It was-... you said, "Oh, this might be the last one." Well, we d- it's still kind of like there's gonna be some changes from what I understand.
• 53:53
The way that the world works is just like whatever. Yeah, how the, how it's organized and- Yeah... what that leads to, don't know yet. Right. But, uh- So we did-... I hope it's back.
• 54:02
It's a, it's a really cool event, and, uh, you know, there was 1,000 people in it, and there were no accidents this year. Yeah. I think there was a couple of breezes on bicycles or something, but no, no, uh- Reported...
• 54:15
reported car on bike issues or anything. Yeah. I thought it was a little mellower than previous ones maybe. Yeah. Kind of. But, uh, yeah, we s- Yeah... uh, yeah. It worked out. Got 46 laps in. Yeah. Not me, personally.
• 54:28
Right. [laughs] But, uh- Yeah, I mean- How many did you, did you complete? 11 and a half. I kept count even in my only sleeping for a half hour state. Like, "I'm gonna keep total." Oh, I forgot about that half lap. Yeah.
• 54:40
  [laughs] The ridiculous half lap.
• 54:42
Didn't you guys- I couldn't, I couldn't wrap my head around, but I'm going like- Didn't you guys just- Everyone just, that, the, the words, the last words I heard was just do the fucking half lap.
• 54:49
Didn't you guys just write it down on a piece of paper? No. That's how we usually do it. No. But- We don't care. We trust them. Yeah 'Cause we just- You weren't in it to win it anyway. No. Right?
• 55:00
No, I was just doing the, going like, "How many have I done?" Right. I just wanna keep my own mental, you know, tally. Yeah. Gotcha. So- And then I was like, I might, I'm gonna stay at the half. Why not?
• 55:10
Last week you said the goal was kinda to find parties and then go get the whole team and bring them to a party. Did you achieve- Fail... that? Completely, on all, everyone's count. Yep. Everyone.
• 55:19
Well, there was some extenuating circumstances [laughs] Yeah... in, in the nighttime. That we, that we could not necessarily- I knew, I, I knew where there were a lot of places-... participate Yeah...
• 55:26
and I went to a lot of the places, but I'm not gonna, like, wake people up and go like, [laughs] "Come on, let's go and do the thing." No, can't do it. Yeah, we basically just, on a lap, I didn't really stop.
• 55:36
I didn't see a whole lot of, I just kept rolling and- I was like, "I, I'll-" And, and so it was- "... I'll hand it off and come back."
• 55:42
Right, and the bonus checkpoints are really, like, parties anyway, so you do four or five of them- Yeah... and you're basically at four or five parties anyhow. Right. And- And how long is a lap? Four, almost five miles.
• 55:51
Yeah. Depends on how you do it. Like 4.6, I think is like the- 4.6 to 5- Full lap... depending on the exact route. Well, well done, Rap the Moist.
• 55:59
Two, two, one half of two fourths of Rap the Moist right here- Two-sixths... in our studios. Two-sixths. Two-sixths. Two-sixths. Well, sort of. Which would be one-third. Actually- Whoa.
• 56:09
[laughs] Adrian wasn't a full on, he kinda- Yeah, he was kind of a half a- Yeah... how are we gonna do that now? 'Cause he had a broken hand, so he only did- Oh, yeah...
• 56:15
he only did, like, four laps, but he d- he did 'em, he, with a broken hand, like, two weeks ago. With a broken hand. So that was, right on, Adrian. Killer. So we'll hope to do it again next year, for sure.
• 56:27
Now are we into the links? Got a few links. Yes. [laughs] We don't have a lot of time either, so- Really?... we can tell people all about these links, but we're- My favorite one involves ponies. [laughs] Of course.
• 56:39
Because- Wrestling ponies or other kinds? [laughs] Our new site is showpony.com. It's all about show ponies s- and fun. No, really, my favorite one is our friend Olaf from Swedish Lapland.
• 56:55
They're gonna have a bike summit up there in northern Sweden on the 3rd through the 6th of September. There's a link there that, that goes to the event. But I think we should have Olaf call in and, uh,
• 57:11
tell us about this. What shall they talk about, and what [laughs] and should the local reindeer be, uh, worried? And- Sorry... can, can we say Metal Face Olaf? [laughs] Olaf. Metal Face. Metal Face. And
• 57:30
I know there's not a link on here now, but I'm gonna throw one on there, is that on this Friday that you're listening to this- Yeah... it's gonna be the full moon blue moon.
• 57:41
So- Polish Moon Ride is right- Well, no, no, no, I mean- We're going, we're going up to Manitowoc... the, the real moon. Oh, oh. It's like the- Oh, really?... last blue moon until 2018. No way. Wow.
• 57:52
So- Well, we're going- Once, once in a blue moon on a Polish Moon Ride type thing. And you guys are going up and doing that Manitowoc Beach Ride? I'm going to Manitowoc, yep. Wow. I'm doing the ride up there.
• 58:03
Nighttime, full moon, beach ride. You gotta check out the Polish Moon Ride here in Milwaukee. Yeah, I'm gonna be in the Milwaukee, I think, 'cause then I have to, then there's Jerry singing at the Jazz Estate. Oh, right.
• 58:17
I'll be at the Sands Motel doing, uh, three shows night this weekend. You should stop in. [laughs] It's $1. Sliding into the Merv Griffin Show- Right... from 1975. Hey, hey, we got a- The set?
• 58:31
[laughs] We got a bunch of plus bikes, uh, linkses to. I know. The, w- I just saw it right before the show started, that Orbea is going 27 plus. Orbea makes some sweet bikes, man. Yep, got a link for that.
• 58:45
And then there, there's a one on, uh, I mean, Bike Magazine about, uh, Scott makes 27 plus bikes but they also make a traditional 27 650B bike. This is a comparison of those two- Oh...
• 58:59
from the same company, kinda set up the same and- Oh, cool. Yeah, it's interesting. Check it out. Ken Blakey Show reviewed the Dirt Wizard and our man Michael Horgan. He, he rode the Pony Rustler. Cool. He rode it hard.
• 59:13
I'd like to ride a Pony Rustler, I just wish it was called something different. Really? Yeah. Who gave you that idea? [laughs] That was first time. Where were you? I wanna ride it. Where you at? Where you at?
• 59:22
It's not the riding portion. Ponies are my life now. [laughs] I love the ponies. And, uh, we got, you know, we always gotta do the shout-out to our man Bruce. True that. The dude blogs like a champ.
• 59:37
Yep, and we talked to Jobu. I, who's getting- Jobu does some stuff... yeah, we, he's, he's, he's also got a link in there this week. All right. Yep, so- Any last words over there, JK? Puce. [laughs] Color commentator.
• 59:51
Here's the color commentator. He brought that, it's, and put that wrapped, put a bow on it, and, uh, put my finger on the bow and he tied it.
• 59:57
