- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter one, Arjuna vishad Territarashtra ranged thus for battle on
- 0:08Speaker 1: the sacred plain on karuk Schetra. Say Sanjaya, say what
- 0:15Speaker 1: wrought my people and the pandavas Sonjaya, when he beheld
- 0:21Speaker 1: the host of Pandavas Raja Duryodhana to Drona drew and
- 0:28Speaker 1: spake these words, Ah Guru, see this line, how vast
- 0:34Speaker 1: it is of Pandu fighting men in battled by the
- 0:37Speaker 1: son of Drupada, thy scholar in the war. Therein stands
- 0:42Speaker 1: ranked chiefs like Arjuna, like to Bima, chiefs, benders of bows,
- 0:48Speaker 1: Virata YuYu, dang Drupada eminent upon his car trish Ta
- 0:54Speaker 1: kate ChEI, Kitan Kasi's stout lord, Purujit Kunti poj and
- 1:00Speaker 1: Shaivah with Udhamanyu and Uttamauj Subadrara's child and Rao Padis,
- 1:10Speaker 1: all famed, all mounted on their shining chariots. On our
- 1:15Speaker 1: side too, Thou best of Brahmans, see excellent chiefs commanders
- 1:21Speaker 1: of my line, whose names I joy to count thyself
- 1:25Speaker 1: the first. Then Bhishma, Karna Kripa fierce and fight Vikarna
- 1:34Speaker 1: Ashwataman next to those strong Saumadati with full many more
- 1:43Speaker 1: valiant and tried, ready this day to die for me
- 1:47Speaker 1: their king, each with his weapon grasped, each skillful in
- 1:52Speaker 1: the field weakest mesims. Our battle shows where Bhishma holds
- 2:00Speaker 1: command and Biemah fronting him, something too strong. Have care
- 2:06Speaker 1: our captain's nigh to Bhishma's ranks. Prepare what help they
- 2:11Speaker 1: may now blow my shell. Then, at the signal of
- 2:16Speaker 1: the aged king, with blair to wake the blood rolling
- 2:20Speaker 1: round like to a lion's roar, the trumpeter blew the
- 2:24Speaker 1: great counch, and at the noise of it, trumpets and drums,
- 2:28Speaker 1: cymbals and gongs and horns burst into sudden clamor as
- 2:32Speaker 1: the blasts of loosened tempests. Such the tumult seemed then
- 2:38Speaker 1: might be seen upon their car of gold, yoked with
- 2:42Speaker 1: white steeds, blowing their battle shells. Krushna, the god Arjuna
- 2:49Speaker 1: at his side. Krushna, with knotted locks, blew his great counch,
- 2:55Speaker 1: carved of the giant's bone. Arjuna blue u Injur's loud gift. Bima,
- 3:02Speaker 1: the terrible wolf bellied Bma blew a long reed conch Yudhishtira,
- 3:10Speaker 1: Kunti's blameless son winded a mighty shell, victory's voice and
- 3:16Speaker 1: nakula blue shrill upon his counch named the sweet sounding
- 3:22Speaker 1: Sahadev on his called gem bedecked, and Kasi's prints on
- 3:29Speaker 1: his Sikandi on his car. Drishtadyum Verrata Sotaki, the unsubdued
- 3:38Speaker 1: Drupara with his sons, o Lord of Earth long armed.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Supadra's children all blew loud, so that the clangers shook
- 3:49Speaker 1: their foemen's hearts with quaking earth and thundering heaven. Then
- 3:55Speaker 1: twas beholding Dritrashtra's battle set weapons, unsheathing bows drawn forth
- 4:03Speaker 1: the war instant to break. Arjuna, whose ensign badge was Hanuman.
- 4:09Speaker 1: The Monkey, spake this thing to Khrushna the Divine. His
- 4:14Speaker 1: charioteer drive dauntless one to yonder open ground betwixt the armies.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I would see more nigh those who will fight with us,
- 4:25Speaker 1: those we must slay today, and wars our bitriment for
- 4:30Speaker 1: sure on bloodshed. All are bent who thronged this plane,
- 4:35Speaker 1: obeying dart Rastro's sinful son. Thus Bararjuna prayed o barrata
- 4:43Speaker 1: between the hosts. That heavenly charioteer drove the bright car
- 4:48Speaker 1: raining its milk white steeds, where Bhishma led and Drona
- 4:54Speaker 1: and their lords see. Spake he to Arjuna, where they
- 4:59Speaker 1: stand thy kindred of the Kurus and the prince marked
- 5:04Speaker 1: on each hand, the kinsmen of his house, grandsires and sires,
- 5:09Speaker 1: uncles and brothers and sons, cousins and son in law
- 5:15Speaker 1: and nephews, mix'd with friends and honored elders, some this side,
- 5:20Speaker 1: some that side, ranged, and seeing those opposed such kith
- 5:26Speaker 1: grown enemies, Arjuna's heart melted with pity while he uttered
- 5:31Speaker 1: this Khrushna, as I behold, come here to shed their
- 5:37Speaker 1: common blood yon concourse of our kin. My members fail,
- 5:43Speaker 1: My tongue dries in my mouth, A shudder thrills my body,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and my hair bristles with horror. From my weak hand
- 5:50Speaker 1: slips Gondhiv the goodly beau. A fever burns my skin,
- 5:56Speaker 1: deparching hardly. May I stand? The life within me seems
- 6:00Speaker 1: to swim and faint. Nothing do I foresee, save woe
- 6:04Speaker 1: and wail. It is not good, Okayshove, not of good
- 6:10Speaker 1: can spring from mutual slaughter. Lo I hate triumph and domination,
- 6:16Speaker 1: wealth and ease thus sadly won. Oh ho, what victory
- 6:21Speaker 1: can bring delight Golvinda? What rich spoils could profit? What
- 6:27Speaker 1: rule recompense? What span of life itself seems sweet bought
- 6:32Speaker 1: with such blood? Seeing that these stand here ready to die,
- 6:37Speaker 1: for whose sake life was fair and pleasure pleased and
- 6:42Speaker 1: power grew precious grandsires, sires and sons, brothers and fathers
- 6:48Speaker 1: in law and sons in law, elders and friends. Shall
- 6:53Speaker 1: ideal death on these, even though they seek to slay us?
- 6:59Speaker 1: Not one blow, Oh Marhusudana, will I strike to gain
- 7:04Speaker 1: the rule of all three worlds? Then? How much less
- 7:07Speaker 1: to seize an earthly kingdom? Killing These must breed but
- 7:11Speaker 1: anguish krushna. If they be guilty, we shall grow guilty
- 7:16Speaker 1: by their deaths. Their sins will light on us. If
- 7:20Speaker 1: we shall slay those sons of dart Rastra and our kin,
- 7:25Speaker 1: what peace could come of that? O Mahdava. For if indeed,
- 7:31Speaker 1: blinded by lust and wrath, these cannot see or will
- 7:35Speaker 1: not see the sin of kingly lines o'er throne and
- 7:40Speaker 1: kinsmen slain, How should not we who see shun such
- 7:45Speaker 1: a crime, we who perceive the guilt and feel the shame.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Oh thou delight of men Janardana by overthrow of houses
- 7:56Speaker 1: perisheth their sweet continuous household piety and rites neglected piety
- 8:03Speaker 1: extinct enters impiety. Upon that home, its women grow unwomaned.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Whence there's spring mad passions and the mingling up of casts,
- 8:16Speaker 1: sending a hell ward road that family, and whoso wrought
- 8:19Speaker 1: its doom by wicked wrath nay, and the souls of
- 8:23Speaker 1: honored ancestors fall from their place of peace, being bereft
- 8:28Speaker 1: of funeral cakes and the wan death water. So teach
- 8:33Speaker 1: our holy hymns. Thus, if we slay kinsfolk and friends
- 8:36Speaker 1: for love of earthly power, ou of yet what an
- 8:40Speaker 1: evil fault it were better? I deem it. If my
- 8:44Speaker 1: kinsmen strike to face them, weaponless and bear my breast
- 8:48Speaker 1: to shaft and spear, then answer blow with blow. So
- 8:53Speaker 1: speaking in the face of those two hosts, Otrojunah sank
- 8:58Speaker 1: upon his chariot seat and let fall bow and arrows.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Sick at heart. Here endeth chapter one of the Boghavadgita
