- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hey, hey, welcome to the show this week.
- 0:24Thanks so much for being here. I am really excited that we have
- 0:29gotten into the month of February.
- 0:31This is an awesome month to me. This is my birthday month for
- 0:35all of you. Aquarius is out there.
- 0:37Happy birthday to you as well. In this episode, I want to talk
- 0:42about two of what I deem to be essential practices to be able
- 0:47to have powerful impact in your life.
- 0:50Not just impact, but more specifically to have quality
- 0:53connections, to do great work, to make progress on your goals.
- 0:58I mean, I guess all that stuff can be encompassed in impact,
- 1:02but in the very first episode of this podcast, I described what
- 1:05it meant to be impact ready. And essentially what it is, is
- 1:10to have the skills and the energy so that you're ready to
- 1:13have a powerful influence and a powerful effect at any time.
- 1:19I also shared the two things that are necessary for you to be
- 1:24able to make that happen, preparation and consistency.
- 1:28And that's what I want to talk about today in this specific
- 1:31episode. We are now beyond the first
- 1:35month of 2026, January, when all of our goals and our intentions
- 1:39are laid out on paper or whiteboards or even just in our
- 1:44minds. And jokingly, I've heard a lot
- 1:48of people talking about February being the month where goals and
- 1:52intentions go to die. But that's not you, that's not
- 1:57this audience, and that's certainly not me.
- 1:59February is when we are going to double down team.
- 2:03We are doubling down in February, Leanne and I've
- 2:06already seen the gym settle down.
- 2:08There's not as many people there in the mornings as there were in
- 2:11the first couple weeks of January.
- 2:13So I know this in real time. It's very easy for us to let go
- 2:17of our well meaning intentions and This is why we're going to
- 2:21talk about this today. So let's get into it.
- 2:24Honestly, when I start talking about preparation and
- 2:27consistency, it's really easy for people to tune out.
- 2:32I can almost see people rolling their eyes, maybe even just in
- 2:36their minds, and I completely understand why that is.
- 2:40Those words are not sexy. And each of these words, they
- 2:44have their own connotations. You know, preparation seems
- 2:48pretty boring. It seems like a lot of work to
- 2:51people. I get that consistency that just
- 2:55seems rigid or constricting or confining.
- 2:59I think also a lot of people confuse consistency with
- 3:03intensity. They think that you have to go
- 3:05hard all the time. And in reality, who wants to
- 3:09live like that? Well, I'll tell you, a lot of
- 3:13people live like that. And I also will tell you why
- 3:16it's so freaking awesome. So think about it this way.
- 3:20You've got the things that you want out on the horizon and you
- 3:24have to get there in some way. You have to get to your goals
- 3:27somehow. You've got to drive the train
- 3:30towards the things that you want.
- 3:32And if we're going to run with the metaphor of the train, I
- 3:35think of a train track and I envision the two side rails as
- 3:40being consistency and preparation.
- 3:43So one is consistency and one is preparation.
- 3:46You need both of them. They are the things that grease
- 3:49the skids and allow the train to move in the right direction.
- 3:53It is the structure for the train to follow.
- 3:56And without a track, that train isn't moving anywhere.
- 3:59If you think about your life, anytime you've ever tried to
- 4:03pursue something, I would venture to guess that it didn't
- 4:06go very well when you weren't prepared and you weren't
- 4:09consistent with the things that you needed to do to get there.
- 4:12Think about any big goal. If you're not showing up, if you
- 4:17aren't preparing ahead of time, if you're not thinking about the
- 4:20meeting that you need to speak at, if you're not doing the
- 4:23reports, if you're not meeting the deadlines, if you're not
- 4:26making sure you have enough energy to actually do the work
- 4:29and do the speeches and show up each day, and you aren't doing
- 4:33that consistently, guess what? You don't get to that big
- 4:36promotion. You don't meet that deadline.
- 4:40Recently, I was leading a meeting and we were talking
- 4:43about this exact topic. I asked people what they did to
- 4:47prepare for their big main goal that they've been working on.
- 4:51I said, all right, think about the big goal, whatever it is
- 4:53that you have, and think about what it is that you do to
- 4:57prepare for that thing. And so they all shouted out
- 4:59their answers and they wrote them down.
- 5:02And then I asked them, OK, what percent of the time are you
- 5:05following through on your preparation?
- 5:08And they all paused for a second, and then they sheepishly
- 5:12started to speak out their answers like, oh, 40% of the
- 5:16time, maybe 30% of the time, 60% of the time.
- 5:22And then we talked about consistency.
- 5:24And I asked, OK, what does it mean to you?
- 5:26What is it that you want to be consistent with?
- 5:29And again, they wrote down their answers.
- 5:31They shouted them out loud so everybody could hear.
- 5:34And then I asked the same question.
- 5:36What percentage of the time are you following through on that
- 5:39consistency? Again, answers like 40 percent,
- 5:4350% of the time. And you know, somebody did
- 5:46actually say 80% of the time, but that was rare.
- 5:48Most of the group was around 40 to 50%, and after that exercise,
- 5:53the point was very clear to the group.
- 5:55Everyone there had acknowledged that preparation and consistency
- 6:00were the logical rails to the train track, and yet they all
- 6:04admitted they weren't executing on either one of those things
- 6:07very well. You have one rail of the track
- 6:09that's 40% complete, 40% usable, and then you have another rail
- 6:15that's 50 to 60% complete or usable.
- 6:19That's a pretty bumpy ride to get to your goals.
- 6:23And let's pass this off to you. Think about one thing that you
- 6:26are working really hard to get to in your life.
- 6:29Think about what you do to prepare each day or even the
- 6:33night before to work towards that thing.
- 6:36And then think about how consistent you are with that
- 6:38work and be really honest with yourself.
- 6:41Are you executing every day? Are you consistent every day?
- 6:44Maybe it's every other day, maybe it's a couple times a
- 6:47week. And now think about this.
- 6:50What would it look like if you prepared every single night the
- 6:54night before and you were consistent every single day for
- 6:58the next week? Do you think that you would be
- 7:01closer to your goal? Do you think that things would
- 7:04be going better for you when it came to moving towards what you
- 7:08want? And I asked my group that same
- 7:11question the other night and everyone said immediately, yes,
- 7:16absolutely yes, without a doubt. Here's the thing.
- 7:21If we think of preparation as one rail and consistency as the
- 7:25other rail of the track, it seems very clear that we would
- 7:29need to be executing on these two things to have a smooth ride
- 7:33and to have a fast ride to the goal.
- 7:37And you see this in people. There are a lot of people who
- 7:40are doing cool stuff in the world, a lot of people who are
- 7:44really making it happen in their life.
- 7:46And for many, it seems like a mystery, like how do I crack the
- 7:50code to success like these people out there?
- 7:53How do I do what that person is doing?
- 7:57But so often it's not mysterious at all.
- 8:00It's actually really simple and kind of boring.
- 8:02It's that that person who is seemingly very successful is
- 8:08just showing up more consistently and preparing
- 8:10better to do the work necessary to get to where they want to go.
- 8:14I know it's not sexy, it's not that exciting, it's kind of
- 8:20boring. It's simply them stacking wins
- 8:23everyday. Sometimes they're small wins so
- 8:26that they can have a smoother, faster ride on the tracks.
- 8:30And, you know, here's the truth. I would argue that preparation
- 8:34and consistency are not rigid or constricting or confining at
- 8:39all. I would actually argue that they
- 8:43provide a lot of freedom, more efficiency, a lot more joy along
- 8:48the path to getting to your goal.
- 8:51You know, we all need tracks for our train to move on.
- 8:55You can have this huge intention or desire out there.
- 8:58You can have a huge goal, but at some point that train needs
- 9:02something to move along. It's not pure heart or will that
- 9:06can move the train. That's a piece of it.
- 9:08That's definitely the fuel for the engine.
- 9:11Going to really stick to this metaphor here.
- 9:14But you have to have the structure.
- 9:15You have to have something laid out for that train to move on.
- 9:19So my challenge this week for all of you who are listening is
- 9:23to think about your own track. Is it bumpy?
- 9:26Are there gaps in it? Is it broken down because
- 9:30there's a lack of consistency or a lack of preparation?
- 9:33Or are you creating a fast, smooth ride for that train
- 9:38because of the efforts that you're putting in with those two
- 9:40things, with those two rails? Just asking those questions
- 9:44alone will give you a really good idea of what's here right
- 9:48now. It didn't take long for my group
- 9:50members to answer that question for themselves.
- 9:53They knew right away, and I think it will be the exact same
- 9:56for you. So let's make February the month
- 9:59where we double down on what we want, not the month where goals
- 10:03go to die. Let's execute even better
- 10:07because we're getting prepared each day and we're being
- 10:09consistent more than ever before.
- 10:12February is not the month where intentions and goals go to die.
- 10:16No, no, no. This is the month where we turn
- 10:18this whole thing into a bullet train and watch it speed down
- 10:22the tracks. So that's all for today.
- 10:24I hope this helps and I hope this gets you fired up.
- 10:27I'm so glad you're here listening.
