- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:10Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes eight twelve and eight thirteen Invading
- 0:19Speaker 1: the Chateau, Reached the Road, Ponaglyph, and a fateful confrontation
- 0:25Speaker 1: Loofy and Big Mom. In these episodes, Loofy just keeps
- 0:34Speaker 1: thinking that he's dealing with somebody who has so much
- 0:38Speaker 1: pride that the instant Lufy's like, Oh, I see you
- 0:41Speaker 1: don't want to fight me because you scared that they're
- 0:43Speaker 1: just gonna fight him. Big Mom has a way better
- 0:48Speaker 1: shit to be doing, Loofy, and she is not falling
- 0:50Speaker 1: for this, and I, for one, applaud it and I
- 0:55Speaker 1: like her. I like her better for it. Welcome to
- 0:59Speaker 1: spoil Me, Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Thank you very much to Florian for commissioning this episode.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Florian is here in the chat with cerr FM. Delighted
- 1:27Speaker 1: to have you both. So these episodes are very I
- 1:32Speaker 1: was a little surprised that it was only these two
- 1:35Speaker 1: because it seems like the next episode, where Brooke is
- 1:39Speaker 1: about to apparently just go to town, was part of
- 1:44Speaker 1: a sort of like arc of story. But I can
- 1:48Speaker 1: predict that probably the next three episodes go together especially well,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and that's why it's broken down this way. Just for
- 1:55Speaker 1: the record, guys, whenever I mentioned the way that things
- 1:58Speaker 1: are broken down, I never wanted to come across as
- 2:00Speaker 1: like a criticism of y'all's judgment. In breaking it down
- 2:03Speaker 1: this way, I am just sharing the way that I
- 2:07Speaker 1: feel in response to it at the time, because sometimes
- 2:10Speaker 1: it will feel a little odd, and I just think
- 2:13Speaker 1: that it's worth noting this. Okay, let's just start with
- 2:19Speaker 1: the first one, invading the chateau reached the road Ponoglyph,
- 2:22Speaker 1: which I sort of appreciate that we go back and
- 2:26Speaker 1: we spend some time with Pedro and Brooke, because honestly, y'all,
- 2:32Speaker 1: it's not that I forget they're around. It's that I
- 2:35Speaker 1: forget what their mission is. And I completely I will
- 2:41Speaker 1: not lie to you, I completely lost track of the
- 2:47Speaker 1: fact that they were here to take the pony glyph.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I just really forgot about that completely, and I felt
- 2:53Speaker 1: for a moment like, oh, wait ah, right, it was
- 3:00Speaker 1: that's a whole thing for me. Once I was reminded
- 3:02Speaker 1: of this, and I couldn't help but giggle to myself
- 3:05Speaker 1: because I don't know what I thought they were doing.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You know, this wasn't me having established that they were
- 3:12Speaker 1: attempting something else. It was simply me going, well, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 1: they're just trying to get in from another direction to
- 3:19Speaker 1: like take big mom down. I just didn't I didn't
- 3:24Speaker 1: even really think through what I considered them to be doing.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So anyway, I uh, the whole thing with them trying
- 3:33Speaker 1: to steal the pony Glyph, it's like, you know, an
- 3:37Speaker 1: assumption that you are simply not going to become King
- 3:41Speaker 1: of the Pirates if you don't have this. And I
- 3:46Speaker 1: am curious if it's going to be that Lufy manages
- 3:48Speaker 1: to get it, or if the story is going to
- 3:51Speaker 1: be Loofy doesn't get it, but he manages to become
- 3:56Speaker 1: King of the Pirates. Anyway, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 4:01Speaker 1: there's a few ways that that could go. And I'm
- 4:05Speaker 1: just the pony Clyph thing, I just really really want
- 4:09Speaker 1: to care about more. That's where I'm at right now,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. It's not like I think
- 4:20Speaker 1: that it's just got a little bit of that McGuff
- 4:24Speaker 1: and energy and it feels like, Okay, well we've got
- 4:28Speaker 1: to collect these things in order for this thing to
- 4:31Speaker 1: be possible, and that a part of me is just like,
- 4:36Speaker 1: do we have to collect them or else he won't
- 4:41Speaker 1: be able to like, do we? And I don't think
- 4:44Speaker 1: that I'm really being fair. I think that this is
- 4:48Speaker 1: just me. Like there's always this sort of storyline whenever
- 4:55Speaker 1: you've got a person who has this dream that they're
- 4:58Speaker 1: attempting to fulfill, where they believe that there is an
- 5:02Speaker 1: element outside of themselves that's going to get them to
- 5:06Speaker 1: a place where it can happen. And a lot of
- 5:10Speaker 1: times what the message is at the end is you
- 5:14Speaker 1: didn't need that thing. It was inside you all along.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And I genuinely do not know if that's what we're
- 5:21Speaker 1: doing here or if we're if it's just exactly what
- 5:25Speaker 1: it looks like and you really do need these things.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And I can't even tell you which I would prefer.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I don't mind either way. If I'm really like stopping
- 5:37Speaker 1: to think about it, I think I'd be good whichever
- 5:41Speaker 1: they went with. But I'm just, you know, trying to
- 5:43Speaker 1: sort of suss out what it is about the whole
- 5:49Speaker 1: thing with the ponoglyphs that isn't really hitting for me.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I think that also with the ponoglyphs is like the
- 6:01Speaker 1: there's a sense of establishing something historically that has happened
- 6:09Speaker 1: in this universe, and we have this also with that,
- 6:13Speaker 1: like missing century. Is that what it's called, you guys.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I've had to remind me of this a few times,
- 6:17Speaker 1: so forgive me sorry about it, guys, but I think
- 6:23Speaker 1: that it has been sort of you know, we're at
- 6:29Speaker 1: episode eight hundred, the Void Century, says Saraphim. Seraphim also says, well,
- 6:34Speaker 1: you kind of need it. The way to become King
- 6:36Speaker 1: of the Pirates is to find the one piece and
- 6:37Speaker 1: the roadponent glyph or the map to where it is. Well,
- 6:41Speaker 1: this is the thing you think you need it. But
- 6:44Speaker 1: if you're doing that other storyline, like that other sort
- 6:47Speaker 1: of moral of the story, I guess that's always how
- 6:51Speaker 1: it seems, that you need something to achieve a thing,
- 6:54Speaker 1: and then it turns out like you don't. That's just
- 6:57Speaker 1: all I'm saying. But the Void Century thing, I believe that.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I think that sometimes the way that Oda decides to
- 7:08Speaker 1: tell a story winds up shooting itself in the foot
- 7:13Speaker 1: a little bit. And I don't know if like I'm
- 7:17Speaker 1: the only one who reacts this way or if it's
- 7:19Speaker 1: the sort of thing that if you've watched the show
- 7:22Speaker 1: many times, it just doesn't really like you kind of
- 7:27Speaker 1: forget the frustration of this if you know certain things already.
- 7:32Speaker 1: But you know, the way that he decides to tell
- 7:35Speaker 1: stories a lot is you see the end result of
- 7:37Speaker 1: a thing, and then hundreds of episodes pass before you
- 7:41Speaker 1: get an explanation why the thing is like that. And
- 7:46Speaker 1: there are things where I feel like that works and
- 7:49Speaker 1: it's fine, like with Sanji's family discovering the way his
- 7:56Speaker 1: childhood worked and why he left and you know, all
- 7:59Speaker 1: of that I really think is a nice surprising reveal
- 8:06Speaker 1: that feels earned. And it feels also like maybe Oda
- 8:11Speaker 1: didn't have every detail nailed down to begin with, but
- 8:15Speaker 1: it doesn't feel like a retcon, like some kinds of
- 8:18Speaker 1: stories can not, even just with one piece. But I
- 8:25Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I just saw Seraphim say. Oda has made
- 8:28Speaker 1: very clear this isn't going to be a the real
- 8:30Speaker 1: treasure was the friends we made along the way type situation.
- 8:34Speaker 1: That's good. I mean again, I don't really have a
- 8:37Speaker 1: problem with those types of stories, but you know, it's
- 8:42Speaker 1: nice to know. But anyway, so telling things like out
- 8:48Speaker 1: of order and letting a lot of time pass, letting
- 8:54Speaker 1: things simmer before you actually make your reveal. There are
- 8:58Speaker 1: times when this works really well, and then there are
- 9:02Speaker 1: times where it's like it was for me with Robin.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I don't think the way that Robin's story was told
- 9:12Speaker 1: was the right way to go. I just didn't care
- 9:16Speaker 1: about her. By the time we get the reveal of
- 9:19Speaker 1: what's going on with her, I had just sort of
- 9:21Speaker 1: disconnected from her as a character, and I was not
- 9:25Speaker 1: that invested. Everything that was going on with Like rescuing her,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I was fine with in terms of this is just
- 9:32Speaker 1: what the straw hats do, so of course they're not
- 9:36Speaker 1: going to give up on their friend, and I totally
- 9:38Speaker 1: accept that, but it didn't feel like it was I
- 9:45Speaker 1: hadn't grown to care about her the way I have
- 9:47Speaker 1: about Sanjy, and so finding out about Sonji's family felt
- 9:50Speaker 1: very rewarding, whereas with Robin, I was just frustrated with her,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and I wish that we had got and all this
- 10:00Speaker 1: info about her long before we actually did. It's there
- 10:06Speaker 1: are times where I just think that maybe oda overestimates
- 10:13Speaker 1: the affection of viewer is going to have for a
- 10:16Speaker 1: certain character versus what actually happens. And again, it may
- 10:21Speaker 1: just be me, but Robin just failed to matter to me,
- 10:27Speaker 1: and it's gotten a little better, and some of it,
- 10:31Speaker 1: I know, is a translation issue. I regret deeply that
- 10:36Speaker 1: I don't feel like I connect more with Robin just
- 10:39Speaker 1: because she's one of the only women in the show,
- 10:41Speaker 1: you know, so I would like to like her more,
- 10:46Speaker 1: But right now I've just pretty much gotten on me,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and she's the one that I actually feel like has
- 10:51Speaker 1: a personality that feels I don't know, there's just more
- 10:58Speaker 1: to a lot of the other characters, and thus feeling
- 11:01Speaker 1: like I'm finding out what happened with them in the
- 11:03Speaker 1: past impacts me in a way that it just didn't
- 11:07Speaker 1: with her. Ooh, sorry, there's so much chatter I missed.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Florian says, I wish the live action would come out
- 11:16Speaker 1: faster so it would be like a rewatch to you,
- 11:19Speaker 1: but hey, season three is already in the making. Yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to the live action. The first
- 11:24Speaker 1: season was so great, I just can't wait. Saraphim says, Yeah,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and if anyone could make that sort of story work
- 11:30Speaker 1: at Soda with this story, that is a very uncommon
- 11:33Speaker 1: reaction to things especially Robin's backstory, says Sarah F. M.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Florian says, I see what you mean. This really is
- 11:39Speaker 1: Oda's writing style. I realize I like it, but your
- 11:41Speaker 1: points are valid. Not any author is perfect, I guess, yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and like this this style it works sometimes, you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: like I just like Sonji's thing. I think also the
- 11:51Speaker 1: reveal with Lola herself and this being her mother that
- 11:56Speaker 1: works because it's not really something that you're like looking for.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You sort of forget it, and then you know, this
- 12:03Speaker 1: bomb gets dropped, and this episode you find out also
- 12:08Speaker 1: that Big Mom does not give a fuck for Lola.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So I think that waiting a time for reveals on
- 12:14Speaker 1: things can be effective, but I just don't think it's
- 12:19Speaker 1: always the right call. And for me, the whole thing
- 12:23Speaker 1: with the Pony Glyphs and the Void Century, it's so
- 12:29Speaker 1: vague and nothing. You know, we have this whole storyline
- 12:33Speaker 1: with Robin's past and how they're trying to wipe out
- 12:36Speaker 1: this information and anybody who can even like translate the information,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and then we get exactly nothing about any of that
- 12:45Speaker 1: for like five hundred episodes, you know, and I'm just
- 12:50Speaker 1: I've lost interest at this point. You've got to start
- 12:54Speaker 1: doing something with that that feels like you even remember
- 12:58Speaker 1: it as a plot point, because for me as a viewer,
- 13:02Speaker 1: as soon as you start to bring it back up,
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's lost all its momentum. And so the ponyglyph aspect
- 13:08Speaker 1: of everything in this it just feels like it's something
- 13:12Speaker 1: put into the story to give characters a thing to
- 13:15Speaker 1: search for. But I don't personally give a shit about it,
- 13:20Speaker 1: even inasmuch as it's like, oh, you need this to
- 13:23Speaker 1: be the King of the Pirates. It's like, even so,
- 13:28Speaker 1: the I want to be King of the Pirates thing
- 13:31Speaker 1: really doesn't matter to me that much either. I'm gonna
- 13:33Speaker 1: tell you guys a secret, because I I'm here for
- 13:38Speaker 1: the ride. I don't care about Like, if Lufy ever
- 13:41Speaker 1: gets to be King of the Pirates, it will be
- 13:44Speaker 1: a very much a secondary thing for me. I'll be
- 13:47Speaker 1: so happy for him, of course it's great, but like,
- 13:51Speaker 1: do I want to risk tons of shit to get there?
- 13:55Speaker 1: I mean, that's the point, obviously, that's the story, is
- 13:58Speaker 1: that we're risking everything so that he can become King
- 14:00Speaker 1: of the Pirates. Yeah, sure, allegedly that's the story, but
- 14:05Speaker 1: like it really the story is Lufy always wants to
- 14:09Speaker 1: help people, and he always is loyal to his friends,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and every step of this story has only incidentally made
- 14:17Speaker 1: him closer to becoming King of the Pirates, but has
- 14:19Speaker 1: mostly been about I'm taking down the next highest bad
- 14:22Speaker 1: guy that I have just run into because they are
- 14:24Speaker 1: doing something personally to me that I don't like, And
- 14:28Speaker 1: I have zero problem with that. For the record, this
- 14:33Speaker 1: is what I want. That's exactly what I'm here for.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But it makes it so that when there's things like
- 14:39Speaker 1: this that happen, I'm just sort of like, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay,
- 14:42Speaker 1: you find the plonoglyph? Whatever, can we get back to
- 14:44Speaker 1: like Big Mom and Loofy talking on the phone, you
- 14:47Speaker 1: know that kind of thing. Florian says, one hundred percent
- 14:52Speaker 1: there with you about the King of the Pirates. It works,
- 14:54Speaker 1: but this is not what my ass gets into the
- 14:55Speaker 1: seat to watch. Yeah, Seraphim says, there's a difference between
- 14:59Speaker 1: difference between the real ponoglyphs, the ones that have information
- 15:02Speaker 1: about the void century and the ancient weapons and the
- 15:04Speaker 1: road ponoglyphs, the ones that map out where to find rafttail.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Is it Raftail? I thought it was laugh like haha,
- 15:12Speaker 1: like Laughtail is it raftail I have been saying, I
- 15:17Speaker 1: was saying the wrong thing this whole time, seraphim. There
- 15:23Speaker 1: being a difference between the ponoglyphs doesn't matter. Like maybe
- 15:29Speaker 1: it does eventually, but to me at this point, I don't.
- 15:33Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. They're all part of like the same lore,
- 15:37Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, And so that's the thing
- 15:39Speaker 1: that I'm saying, like, just doesn't it doesn't feel materially
- 15:44Speaker 1: involved with the story. So it just sort of grinds
- 15:49Speaker 1: to a halt for me in that respect, And it
- 15:52Speaker 1: just feels like we're giving our characters something to do.
- 15:55Speaker 1: And you know, to a degree, that's also fine. We
- 15:59Speaker 1: gotta give our carry you, you know, if this happens.
- 16:01Speaker 1: But I just wish there was a little bit more
- 16:05Speaker 1: of this sprinkled more consistently throughout things in terms of
- 16:10Speaker 1: it being actual information that enlightens us as like the
- 16:14Speaker 1: way it was structured and the way like clues as
- 16:19Speaker 1: to what the Void century could have to do with
- 16:21Speaker 1: or you know, because all we ever really get is
- 16:25Speaker 1: the mention of them when it's something that our friends
- 16:27Speaker 1: need to find, and we rarely do we get information
- 16:33Speaker 1: about what the conspiracy overall, is it's just information about
- 16:41Speaker 1: like this particular ponoglyph and what it says, or the
- 16:44Speaker 1: ponoglyph that we need to find the island and what
- 16:46Speaker 1: that means. It's all very immediate and very relevant to
- 16:51Speaker 1: that situation. But I would like a bit more theorizing
- 16:57Speaker 1: about the Void Century, even if it more cr actual
- 17:01Speaker 1: information that we're getting. I wouldn't mind some like conversation
- 17:05Speaker 1: between our characters about what the Void Century is, some
- 17:09Speaker 1: theorizing Robin sharing the things that she has learned, or
- 17:14Speaker 1: theories that the people she used to know came up
- 17:17Speaker 1: with what she thinks they're trying to hide. There's just
- 17:21Speaker 1: a sense of like the characters not really giving a
- 17:24Speaker 1: fuck about it either, you know. And that's the part
- 17:28Speaker 1: that I think is a shame, because it could be
- 17:31Speaker 1: a really interesting conspiracy and hole in history that keeps
- 17:36Speaker 1: coming up, and it's just so sporadic and it's it's
- 17:42Speaker 1: it is sort of, oh, that's during the voids, you know, Grey,
- 17:45Speaker 1: we don't know what happened, and there's no sense of like,
- 17:49Speaker 1: how could they erase this? How could they do this? Why?
- 17:52Speaker 1: You know? I don't there's not really like that outrage
- 17:55Speaker 1: to go with it. So I just I want I
- 18:00Speaker 1: like the concept of it. I just don't think he's
- 18:03Speaker 1: doing all that much with it, and I am worried
- 18:07Speaker 1: about eventually if it becomes more relevant, is it still
- 18:11Speaker 1: is it gonna grab me? Or am I gonna kind
- 18:13Speaker 1: of feel like? Ugh? I guess you know. Laurence says,
- 18:20Speaker 1: I'm used to raftail because that's the German one as well.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Seraphim says it's the whole Japanese r L interchangeability thing, Okay.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I like, even if it's an L laftail, I'm not
- 18:37Speaker 1: sure that this is like correct, because sometimes subtitles they'll
- 18:42Speaker 1: they use AI for them a lot now, and so
- 18:45Speaker 1: sometimes they will be spelled in a way that's not
- 18:48Speaker 1: actually like what was intended. But one of the characters
- 18:52Speaker 1: references laftail at one point, and it says la ug
- 18:56Speaker 1: h space ta l e. So I've been thinking that
- 19:02Speaker 1: it's literally the two words laughtail, But now I'm realizing,
- 19:07Speaker 1: like that just might have been a subtitle error or something. Okay.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Note to self, I personally prefer rafttail just because it
- 19:18Speaker 1: sounds like a name more than two random words, and
- 19:25Speaker 1: I think that it feels more like distinctive to me.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So I'm willing to just go with raftail from now on.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I hope I remember to do that. Okay. So picking
- 19:40Speaker 1: up the first of these two episodes, episode eight twelve,
- 19:48Speaker 1: invading the Chateau, reached the road pon a glyph, and
- 19:53Speaker 1: we have Sanjy in his room alone lighting a cigarette
- 20:00Speaker 1: and I think he's using this like jeweled lighter. This
- 20:03Speaker 1: thing is I can't remember if this is something that
- 20:06Speaker 1: he's always had or if it's just something that because
- 20:11Speaker 1: he now is living this life of a royal, it's
- 20:14Speaker 1: like even my lighter is over the top, you know.
- 20:19Speaker 1: But he is thinking through all of what he has
- 20:23Speaker 1: gone through and his friends have gone through, and we
- 20:26Speaker 1: don't get the conclusion of this thought process here, but
- 20:29Speaker 1: we do a little bit later. So I'm just going
- 20:30Speaker 1: to go through it all. He is thinking through how
- 20:36Speaker 1: bending to the will of his father and Big Mom
- 20:40Speaker 1: at least is going to keep his friends from getting killed,
- 20:44Speaker 1: and that, in the end is all he really cares about.
- 20:48Speaker 1: He just wants to do whatever he can to make
- 20:52Speaker 1: sure that nobody dies, and as far as he is concerned,
- 20:58Speaker 1: if he gets that outcome, it's worth it to just
- 21:01Speaker 1: get married. It's fine, and we do have a kind
- 21:05Speaker 1: of amazing moment later on where he's thinking about pudding
- 21:12Speaker 1: and the fact that she has kind of made a
- 21:16Speaker 1: vow I guess that she isn't going to make his
- 21:19Speaker 1: life hell as his wife. And we finally get the
- 21:25Speaker 1: old Sanji back for a moment of him and his
- 21:30Speaker 1: heart eyes and just falling all over himself because he
- 21:33Speaker 1: loves her so much. I am not going to lie
- 21:37Speaker 1: to you all. It was so lovely. I didn't realize
- 21:41Speaker 1: how much I missed lovey dovey, soanjy until we got
- 21:46Speaker 1: to see him again. He's just been so sad and
- 21:50Speaker 1: so serious, you know, And the moment that he's just
- 21:54Speaker 1: like you deserve everything, I was like, oh, he's back,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know. And I know that it's it's likely going
- 22:00Speaker 1: to come and go for a time, but I still,
- 22:04Speaker 1: just for the record, this is what I wanted so
- 22:09Speaker 1: much between him and putting, just because I love them
- 22:12Speaker 1: as a pair and I wish all the best for them,
- 22:14Speaker 1: and I hope this doesn't go away. So that's pretty
- 22:21Speaker 1: much what's going on with him, is just struggling with
- 22:23Speaker 1: this decision and whether it's the right thing to do.
- 22:27Speaker 1: And eventually he seems to really settle on that it
- 22:33Speaker 1: was the right thing to do, that he is being
- 22:37Speaker 1: responsible by choosing something difficult and sacrificing his own happiness
- 22:44Speaker 1: potentially for his friends, even though it's possible it's not
- 22:48Speaker 1: sacrificing his own happiness. It's possible that he will be
- 22:53Speaker 1: happy in this marriage potentially, but it's of course he's
- 22:56Speaker 1: sacrificing his membership with the straw Hats, so you know,
- 23:03Speaker 1: mileage may vary there. I just I really like this
- 23:13Speaker 1: direction that the story is going in that what if
- 23:16Speaker 1: the marriage weren't so bad? Actually, what if doing this
- 23:22Speaker 1: wasn't the awful punishment that it could have been? Had
- 23:27Speaker 1: to put this whole thing, He could have gone in
- 23:30Speaker 1: a different direction, you know. And if you don't have
- 23:36Speaker 1: as big a problem with the actual woman that you're
- 23:39Speaker 1: being set up to marry, then how bad is it really?
- 23:44Speaker 1: And who knows? Because honestly, I'm really still not sure,
- 23:51Speaker 1: like how much to trust anything. Big Mom says, we
- 23:55Speaker 1: have obviously Loofy and Nami gripped up this episode, and
- 24:01Speaker 1: the whole deal that he made with Big Mom was
- 24:04Speaker 1: that I will cooperate with this marriage as long as
- 24:08Speaker 1: you let my friends go. Well, she hasn't done that.
- 24:12Speaker 1: They are fucking pinned to a board like a pair
- 24:15Speaker 1: of butterflies. She has not let them go. So I
- 24:22Speaker 1: am not sure if this is like, oh, this is
- 24:25Speaker 1: a temporary thing until she does the wedding and then
- 24:28Speaker 1: she's going to release them. It feels like the way
- 24:32Speaker 1: that she's talking about it is that she plans to
- 24:34Speaker 1: keep them forever, but she doesn't explicitly say that. So,
- 24:39Speaker 1: you know, guys like I just feel like I don't
- 24:47Speaker 1: have a good grasp on Big Mom's attitude about stuff overall,
- 24:53Speaker 1: and because of that, everything that every judgment I want
- 24:58Speaker 1: to make or guess that I want to make is
- 25:03Speaker 1: very salted with doubt. So anyway, Yeah, this, uh, the
- 25:13Speaker 1: thing with Nammy and Loofy being pinned up, it's sort
- 25:17Speaker 1: of weird because the way that this is done, it's
- 25:21Speaker 1: like they're pinned in this book, but also they are
- 25:23Speaker 1: in a cell. It's like they're pinned the way they
- 25:27Speaker 1: would be in this book. But I'm not really clear
- 25:32Speaker 1: on exactly how this works. I'm gonna be honest. However,
- 25:35Speaker 1: I do love the idea of Big Mom like taking
- 25:42Speaker 1: freaks of nature, so to speak, and keeping them as
- 25:46Speaker 1: like live specimens. It's so creepy, you guys, it's so creepy.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I really like this. It's just it's so unnerving. It
- 25:57Speaker 1: makes so much sense for like who she is, and
- 26:01Speaker 1: there's a there's just a vibe to it of it
- 26:06Speaker 1: tying in with her alleged Oh. I just want all
- 26:09Speaker 1: of us to be like living equally as different races together.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That's all I've ever wanted. There's just I knew that
- 26:23Speaker 1: there was something about that energy that felt like, really
- 26:28Speaker 1: and here is a kind of it's not even an
- 26:31Speaker 1: undermining of it, it's just it's pointing out the way
- 26:36Speaker 1: that she sees people who are different is still very othering,
- 26:40Speaker 1: you know. And there's also the weirdness of there not
- 26:45Speaker 1: being any giants around, which is pointed out by Judge.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And I'm really curious about that one because Judge I
- 26:57Speaker 1: couldn't get I couldn't tell if Judge was asking because
- 27:03Speaker 1: he knows the answer and he is needling her, or
- 27:07Speaker 1: if he genuinely doesn't realize that this is a sort
- 27:11Speaker 1: of sore spot. But it seemed really clear to me
- 27:15Speaker 1: from the way Big Mom reacts that he touched on
- 27:20Speaker 1: something that she doesn't want to address or talk about,
- 27:26Speaker 1: and you know, I can't help but like be surprised
- 27:34Speaker 1: once he points this out. The whole thing had been
- 27:38Speaker 1: that she wanted to make people bigger with this like
- 27:43Speaker 1: potion that Caesar was working on. But now we're hearing
- 27:51Speaker 1: that there are no giants at all. So what's the
- 27:57Speaker 1: deal exactly? You know, Like I can't I can't tell
- 28:04Speaker 1: what that is about. I genuinely feel like I like
- 28:14Speaker 1: the answer is right there in front of me, Like
- 28:16Speaker 1: if I just stopped and really thought, I could probably
- 28:18Speaker 1: put it together. And the only thing I can think
- 28:21Speaker 1: of is that naturally occurring giants don't appeal to her
- 28:27Speaker 1: for some reason that she wants giants that are that
- 28:34Speaker 1: she gets to choose who is her size and who isn't.
- 28:40Speaker 1: But why, like what even if she would like to
- 28:47Speaker 1: do that refusing giants' access to the island, which I
- 28:52Speaker 1: have to assume is what she does if there's none around,
- 28:56Speaker 1: why would she do that? I just don't know, you guys,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I didn't notice that, being there are so many people
- 29:06Speaker 1: in this universe who are very very tall or weirdly shaped,
- 29:12Speaker 1: you know, there's lots of that, So there are plenty
- 29:18Speaker 1: of times where I don't notice there's no giants, because
- 29:22Speaker 1: the whole idea of giants is sort of it's nebulous
- 29:26Speaker 1: in this universe, you know. And we've got Pound out
- 29:32Speaker 1: in the Seducing Woods who looked like he was a
- 29:34Speaker 1: giant because he just had a huge head. But then
- 29:37Speaker 1: he like climbs up out of this hole and it
- 29:39Speaker 1: turns out he's just got basically an ordinary body. So,
- 29:45Speaker 1: you know, there's there's been a lot of weird hints
- 29:50Speaker 1: and references to their being giants, and I just don't
- 29:55Speaker 1: know what any of it means, and I'm kind of
- 29:58Speaker 1: racking my brains and I've got nothing. So anyway, Uh,
- 30:02Speaker 1: I just I can't tell. I think Judge doesn't know
- 30:10Speaker 1: what it is he's doing the nest that he's poking
- 30:13Speaker 1: when he asks this question. I think that he is
- 30:17Speaker 1: unaware there's something specific happening here, and he's just making
- 30:22Speaker 1: an observation, and it's sort of like, oh, I thought
- 30:24Speaker 1: it was interesting that there's no giants here. What's that about?
- 30:27Speaker 1: But it's clear from the way that she reacts to
- 30:30Speaker 1: him that she has something specific going on with that.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Let's see, I'm trying to jump around here. There's a
- 30:41Speaker 1: bunch of chatter. Sorry, guys. Florian says, I like the
- 30:45Speaker 1: two episodes since we get to talk about things like this, ponent,
- 30:48Speaker 1: glyphs and such. That's fair. Yeah. I mean like I'm
- 30:51Speaker 1: already half an hour in and I haven't talked about
- 30:55Speaker 1: the actual summary of the episodes too much, so seems
- 30:59Speaker 1: like it was a good call to break it down
- 31:00Speaker 1: this way. Serfim says, Yeah, it's nice to see him
- 31:05Speaker 1: being himself. For all, he flirts with anything with boobs
- 31:07Speaker 1: and a pulse. You know, he'll treat putting right if
- 31:09Speaker 1: they do go through with this. Yes, it's the scarecrow
- 31:12Speaker 1: looking guy's book book fruit. Oh right, right, right right,
- 31:18Speaker 1: That's how it is. I keep forgetting about that guy
- 31:20Speaker 1: because he even says like at the beginning of that scene,
- 31:24Speaker 1: you're here because of me, and I just I think
- 31:30Speaker 1: that the fact that he looks like a scarecrow just
- 31:33Speaker 1: keeps throwing me off, you know what I'm saying, because
- 31:36Speaker 1: like it doesn't feel like it goes together that he
- 31:42Speaker 1: can do this, but looks the way that he does.
- 31:45Speaker 1: And this happens sometimes with one piece characters. There are
- 31:47Speaker 1: some folks who their whole look all sort of like
- 31:53Speaker 1: there's a theme to it that you can see, and
- 31:56Speaker 1: then there are times where they have a bunch of weird,
- 32:00Speaker 1: disconnected but very distinct. I feel like there was somebody
- 32:04Speaker 1: and I still remember this because I think it bothered
- 32:07Speaker 1: me at the time, but there was somebody who was
- 32:08Speaker 1: part of like the baroque pirates, and she had some ability,
- 32:13Speaker 1: but her whole aesthetic was like frogs, and I couldn't
- 32:16Speaker 1: figure out the connection between her like devil fruit ability
- 32:22Speaker 1: and frogs, and it just like didn't make sense. I
- 32:25Speaker 1: can't remember exactly how that went. Oh Saraphim, says per Oda.
- 32:31Speaker 1: In order to count as a giant, someone has to
- 32:33Speaker 1: be at least ten meters tall, which is roughly like
- 32:39Speaker 1: one hundred feet or no, that's roughly thirty feet, right.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Big Mom comes in at eight point eight eight. Okay,
- 32:52Speaker 1: so she's not even really a giant. Interesting is it?
- 32:58Speaker 1: Maybe if she's smaller than most giants that she just
- 33:02Speaker 1: doesn't want to be outsized by people. I wonder if
- 33:09Speaker 1: that's like, if it's purely an ego thing that she
- 33:13Speaker 1: wants to be the biggest one. You know what I'm saying.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I don't know if that's like, I wouldn't. I wouldn't
- 33:22Speaker 1: think that would be an issue when she has the
- 33:24Speaker 1: fucking ability that she has. But some people get hung
- 33:27Speaker 1: up on weird stuff. So maybe she wants to be
- 33:30Speaker 1: able to turn other people into giants to hang out,
- 33:32Speaker 1: but like not as big as giant giants, or not
- 33:36Speaker 1: as big as even her just big enough. I don't know.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Florian says, miss Father's Day, the frog girl, we miss you. Yeah,
- 33:46Speaker 1: what was her ability, Florie? Do you remember? Because it
- 33:49Speaker 1: was something that like, I feel like it didn't. You know.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I tend to be able to remember what people's abilities
- 33:56Speaker 1: are based on their esthetic or like something about their
- 34:03Speaker 1: overall vibe. And there are occasionally characters that I'm genuinely like,
- 34:07Speaker 1: I can't keep track of this because none of this
- 34:10Speaker 1: seems to connect to each other. But yeah, so I'm
- 34:17Speaker 1: just gonna I'm gonna jump to this conversation that Lufy
- 34:23Speaker 1: has with Big Mom. I know that I'm skipping some
- 34:25Speaker 1: other things, and I will double back, I promise. But
- 34:31Speaker 1: he just really is so used to playing on the
- 34:37Speaker 1: egos of for lack of a better way of saying this,
- 34:44Speaker 1: more small time pirates that simply goating them and being like, oh,
- 34:51Speaker 1: you're just too afraid to face me. Has worked super
- 34:53Speaker 1: well for him and he thinks he can do that
- 34:57Speaker 1: with her, And oh my god, I'm so sorry, guys,
- 35:03Speaker 1: I just got distracted. Florian says Miss Father's Day had
- 35:06Speaker 1: no power. She was just weird. Oh my god, that
- 35:09Speaker 1: is so funny. Okay. Saraphim says she didn't have a power.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Her and her partner just had that weird gun thing
- 35:15Speaker 1: where they shot and patterned with each other. Maybe that
- 35:22Speaker 1: was what it was, was that she dressed so distinctively.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I thought there should be a power, and then when
- 35:27Speaker 1: she didn't have, when I was fucking mystified. I bet
- 35:30Speaker 1: that's what it was. Okay, Well, guys, I appreciate you
- 35:34Speaker 1: letting me know. Anyway, getting back to Big Mom talking
- 35:41Speaker 1: to Louviy, Here's here's where I come down on this,
- 35:46Speaker 1: and this this is gonna be. This is gonna be
- 35:51Speaker 1: one of those times where like, I become uncomfortable with
- 35:55Speaker 1: the fact that I am relating to a villain as
- 35:58Speaker 1: much as I do. But Big Mom has a fucking
- 36:01Speaker 1: wedding a plan. Do you know how much time that takes?
- 36:06Speaker 1: Do you understand the fucking effort involved. If you've never
- 36:12Speaker 1: planned a wedding, you have no earthly idea. You can't
- 36:17Speaker 1: you cannot know, because there are more things than you
- 36:22Speaker 1: could ever conceive of if you haven't actually done it,
- 36:26Speaker 1: that pop up and go wrong and whatever. And this
- 36:32Speaker 1: little shit that doesn't want his friend to get married
- 36:37Speaker 1: and turns up and is just like, fight me. I
- 36:41Speaker 1: think not. I have a seven pm appointment with a florist.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I have a tasting at five, and it's across town,
- 36:50Speaker 1: so I don't know how I'm getting to the florist
- 36:52Speaker 1: on time. And Pudding brought me this hideous fucking dress
- 36:57Speaker 1: that she wants to wear, and I don't think so
- 37:00Speaker 1: I picked the dress already, She's gonna wear what I
- 37:03Speaker 1: fucking picked. I don't want to have this argument again,
- 37:05Speaker 1: you know, I just really get it. She's busy, she's
- 37:10Speaker 1: got guests already arrived on the island that she's managing,
- 37:14Speaker 1: she's got a feed and house all these people. No, no, no, no,
- 37:19Speaker 1: no no no. We do not have time for this
- 37:23Speaker 1: little rubber asshole to just drag me into a fight
- 37:28Speaker 1: the night before the like, no, I am not gonna
- 37:32Speaker 1: be in fucking wedding photos with a black eye that
- 37:36Speaker 1: I had to use cover girl on, you know what
- 37:38Speaker 1: I mean. So I also like the fact that eventually
- 37:44Speaker 1: somebody does straight up say to Loofy, you don't have
- 37:48Speaker 1: any bargaining chips, bro, like you're behaving as if you
- 37:53Speaker 1: have something that you can offer her, or like somehow
- 37:58Speaker 1: strong arm her into fighting you. You don't, You're caught.
- 38:04Speaker 1: It's over. And that was sort of what I had
- 38:08Speaker 1: expected it to be, more like when it was Soanjy.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I think that the only thing because I said at
- 38:14Speaker 1: the time, I was sort of like, can't they just
- 38:16Speaker 1: make him do it? But I think that really what
- 38:18Speaker 1: it is is Big Mom doesn't want a scene. She
- 38:21Speaker 1: wants things to go smoothly, and if Sonji is gonna
- 38:25Speaker 1: throw a fucking fit, it's just gonna make the whole
- 38:28Speaker 1: thing awkward and uncomfortable. And yes, I could still go
- 38:32Speaker 1: through with the wedding and make this happen, but it's
- 38:37Speaker 1: going to feel awkward and strange, and it's going to
- 38:41Speaker 1: be a spectacle. And I just want a fun party
- 38:46Speaker 1: because based on what I understand about Big Mom, she
- 38:51Speaker 1: really just loves a party. She likes to host people
- 38:58Speaker 1: and wants every buddy to just you know, enjoy themselves.
- 39:03Speaker 1: So yeah, it makes some sense that actually it's not
- 39:08Speaker 1: about like just forcing him to marry this girl. It's like,
- 39:14Speaker 1: I don't want it to be a whole thing that
- 39:17Speaker 1: you're up there and you let everybody know you didn't
- 39:20Speaker 1: want to be here or make Putting feel bad, you know.
- 39:27Speaker 1: And we get a brief moment with Putting where she
- 39:33Speaker 1: there's like a woman who I sort of interpreted as
- 39:36Speaker 1: being like her nurse maid from when she was little,
- 39:39Speaker 1: and she is talking to Putting about like the dress
- 39:44Speaker 1: that Putting picked out that got rejected by Big Mom.
- 39:48Speaker 1: I am dying to see this, by the way, guys,
- 39:53Speaker 1: I really want to see both the dress the big
- 39:56Speaker 1: Mom picked and the dress that Putting picked and Putting
- 40:00Speaker 1: is going through with this. And you know, I got
- 40:02Speaker 1: very focused on the fact that she was into Sonji,
- 40:09Speaker 1: and so the fact of whether she actually had wanted
- 40:14Speaker 1: to get married to begin with, it didn't even really
- 40:18Speaker 1: occur to me because she was so on board by
- 40:21Speaker 1: the time our friends arrived, because she had met Soanji
- 40:24Speaker 1: and she liked him that I let any previous what's
- 40:30Speaker 1: the word I want misgivings that she might have had
- 40:35Speaker 1: sort of go unexamined, and I let them fall to
- 40:38Speaker 1: the wayside. But what we get in this episode is
- 40:42Speaker 1: really really interesting because it's na Me talking to Big
- 40:47Speaker 1: Mom as well, and Big Mom assumes that Nami killed
- 40:51Speaker 1: Lola because that's what everybody is telling her happen. And
- 40:54Speaker 1: it's so funny because Nami is very quick to be like, what,
- 40:59Speaker 1: no idea because she thinks Big Mom is going to
- 41:02Speaker 1: be mad, But it seems in retrospect that Big Mom
- 41:08Speaker 1: might have rewarded her. Actually, if she had killed Lola,
- 41:11Speaker 1: if she claimed that she had, it probably would have
- 41:14Speaker 1: all gone better for them than it does. And she
- 41:22Speaker 1: tells Big Mom about how Lola gave her a piece
- 41:26Speaker 1: of the Viver card because they were such friends and YadA, YadA,
- 41:31Speaker 1: and Big Mom is disgusted and she says, I can't
- 41:38Speaker 1: believe that she even still considers herself part of this family.
- 41:43Speaker 1: She refused to get married when I told her how
- 41:47Speaker 1: it was going to be. She dug in her heels
- 41:49Speaker 1: and give me all kinds of problems. And she has
- 41:52Speaker 1: the fucking nerve to use that Viver card and hand
- 41:57Speaker 1: it out as a favor to people like I owe
- 42:00Speaker 1: her anything. I wish she was dead. I wish she
- 42:05Speaker 1: was fucking dead. I'd prefer that because she disobeyed me,
- 42:11Speaker 1: and as far as I am concerned, that is the
- 42:15Speaker 1: worst thing that a child can do is disobey their parent,
- 42:20Speaker 1: So fuck that bitch. In summary, she is livid. It's
- 42:25Speaker 1: the first time that we've really seen big moms seriously angry.
- 42:30Speaker 1: She's been like annoyed and pissed, but there's always been
- 42:32Speaker 1: a certain composure to her because she has that complacency
- 42:37Speaker 1: that you have when you are so certain nobody is
- 42:41Speaker 1: going to get out of the trap you set, or
- 42:43Speaker 1: that you have enough power that they aren't going to
- 42:46Speaker 1: be able to get past your guards or whatever. She's
- 42:49Speaker 1: always even when things have not been going quite well
- 42:53Speaker 1: for her, she's been mostly composed, and this is the
- 42:57Speaker 1: first time that you really see her kind of lose
- 43:00Speaker 1: her temper a little bit and just be like, I
- 43:02Speaker 1: can't believe the nerve. And when we see like the
- 43:10Speaker 1: flashbacks with Nami, I had forgotten about how Lola is
- 43:15Speaker 1: asking everybody she meets to marry her, but now it
- 43:20Speaker 1: makes a lot more sense because she that was like
- 43:24Speaker 1: the focus of her decision to leave Big Mom is
- 43:29Speaker 1: that she wanted to determine who she married, and she says,
- 43:34Speaker 1: as she's leaving to Pudding because apparently they were somewhat close,
- 43:39Speaker 1: don't worry, Mama, never kill me. I'm family, which, as
- 43:44Speaker 1: we have seen, does not mean too Big Mom what
- 43:49Speaker 1: apparently she thinks it means. And I don't know if
- 43:55Speaker 1: she has any idea how her mother feels about her now.
- 44:02Speaker 1: She seems to think, if I go off and I
- 44:09Speaker 1: if I abandon my duty so to speak, of marrying
- 44:16Speaker 1: who Big Mom picks out, it will be seen as
- 44:22Speaker 1: a sort of a rascalish thing to do. I think
- 44:27Speaker 1: she was under the impression that this just wouldn't be
- 44:30Speaker 1: that big a deal and she could come home with
- 44:33Speaker 1: whatever husband and it would be fine, and that she
- 44:38Speaker 1: doesn't understand just how betrayed Big Mom feels. I don't
- 44:46Speaker 1: get the impression that she had any idea, or she
- 44:49Speaker 1: wouldn't have given Nomi the Viver card and she wouldn't
- 44:52Speaker 1: have talked about Big Mom as like somebody that she
- 44:55Speaker 1: can still rely on. So my assumption is that Lola
- 44:59Speaker 1: really does know. And I feel a little bit bad
- 45:02Speaker 1: about that, because, like I just the idea that she's
- 45:09Speaker 1: so confident. I'm always like, it doesn't really matter the context.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Whenever somebody is certain that they are going to be
- 45:17Speaker 1: treated a certain way or received a certain way, and
- 45:22Speaker 1: we know that it's not going to go the way
- 45:24Speaker 1: they expect, it's just really uncomfortable and sad from the
- 45:29Speaker 1: outside to see that, you know. So, I as much
- 45:33Speaker 1: as it's not like I want big Mom to like,
- 45:37Speaker 1: I don't want to say I want her to be
- 45:38Speaker 1: nicer to her daughter because it's just not going to happen.
- 45:41Speaker 1: It's unreasonable, whatever, but I just hate knowing that Lila's
- 45:45Speaker 1: out there thinking a thing and that if she were
- 45:48Speaker 1: to come home, her mom might actually kill her herself.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Like that's pretty awful, you know what I'm saying. Anyway,
- 45:58Speaker 1: So let me go to Putting. At one point with
- 46:02Speaker 1: this nurse, the nurse is telling her about the dress
- 46:05Speaker 1: getting rejected, and we have Putting's own flashback about her
- 46:12Speaker 1: is it her sister? Technically? I guess who is running away?
- 46:19Speaker 1: And Lila says to Putting, I just want to choose
- 46:22Speaker 1: who I marry. One day, you'll understand. And it feels
- 46:27Speaker 1: like now Putting does understand, and it's just dumb luck honestly,
- 46:35Speaker 1: that the person Big Mom wants her to marry is
- 46:38Speaker 1: also the person she herself would like to marry. It
- 46:41Speaker 1: just fucking worked out. But she's not getting to choose
- 46:45Speaker 1: anything about the wedding. She doesn't even get to choose
- 46:48Speaker 1: the dress that she gets married in. And how just
- 46:52Speaker 1: so much of her personal choice has been taken away
- 46:57Speaker 1: in the process of all of this. Even despite that
- 47:02Speaker 1: it may ultimately be who she wants to marry, you know,
- 47:07Speaker 1: there's still, like clearly a little bit of resentment in there,
- 47:10Speaker 1: it seems like, and we also hear Big Mom telling her,
- 47:15Speaker 1: just think of yourself as my doll, and that's what
- 47:18Speaker 1: you are, because I'm going to dress you up and
- 47:22Speaker 1: do what you know, choose what happens, and you just
- 47:25Speaker 1: have to do what you're told. And it's really like,
- 47:33Speaker 1: it seems like Putting is having more feelings about that
- 47:41Speaker 1: than I realized. She seemed so accepting even as she
- 47:47Speaker 1: was going to help Sonji escape. I was just tying
- 47:51Speaker 1: that up entirely in her wanting to do something good
- 47:55Speaker 1: for Sonjy because she cares about him. But now it's
- 48:00Speaker 1: looking like maybe her willingness to help him was more
- 48:04Speaker 1: related to remembering her sister and how having a choice
- 48:09Speaker 1: in who she married mattered to her sister, and that
- 48:12Speaker 1: she doesn't want Sanji in this position as well, you know.
- 48:18Speaker 1: So yeah, I just I'm interested in this development, and
- 48:24Speaker 1: I don't know, you know, how much difference this is
- 48:29Speaker 1: going to make ultimately, because like I said, we know
- 48:32Speaker 1: she wants to marry Soanji. That's not really the problem.
- 48:36Speaker 1: So I am going to be watching with interest to
- 48:43Speaker 1: see if there comes a point where she just decides
- 48:45Speaker 1: to draw aline and be like, no, I get to
- 48:47Speaker 1: at least choose this thing. You know, the scene isn't
- 48:53Speaker 1: really her responding to the nurse. It's just the nurse
- 48:57Speaker 1: telling her something and her walking away thinking over events
- 49:03Speaker 1: of the past and reflecting on what she has come
- 49:09Speaker 1: to accept and the way that Lola reacted and all
- 49:13Speaker 1: of that. So there's a lot that's like unsaid and
- 49:21Speaker 1: I'm still not certain about, but I'm very curious about
- 49:25Speaker 1: all of it. So, Okay, I'm trying to get to
- 49:30Speaker 1: this spot. Okay, the other thing that I need to
- 49:34Speaker 1: talk about, and I'm actually I'm not going to talk
- 49:36Speaker 1: about it for all that long, but because it's not
- 49:40Speaker 1: resolved within these episodes, but I'll just head down that
- 49:45Speaker 1: path briefly. Is what's going on with Chopper and Carrot
- 49:50Speaker 1: because they are luring Brulai into some kind of trap.
- 49:56Speaker 1: They are setting up a plan, and Chopper has allowed
- 50:01Speaker 1: himself to get put into restraints while in a different
- 50:08Speaker 1: form so that he can break out of those restraints
- 50:12Speaker 1: really easily when the time comes. And we don't actually
- 50:17Speaker 1: see that happen, but the whole thing is like relay.
- 50:22Speaker 1: It's being threatened that she's going to be put into
- 50:25Speaker 1: a soup because she's a rabbit and they are convinced
- 50:31Speaker 1: that it will be delicious. I just I couldn't help
- 50:36Speaker 1: but laugh a little bit at this whole thing because
- 50:39Speaker 1: it's part of the plan apparently that Chopper is operating with.
- 50:44Speaker 1: And there's that alligator guy who's like a knife and
- 50:49Speaker 1: fork and like practically has a napkin tucked into his
- 50:53Speaker 1: collar as he's ready to like eat up. But there's
- 50:57Speaker 1: so many things that Chopper says that lead to this
- 50:59Speaker 1: Alley being like, oh that doesn't sound so tasty. Actually,
- 51:03Speaker 1: maybe I don't want to eat her, and like he's
- 51:06Speaker 1: just reflecting a lot on whether or not this you know,
- 51:10Speaker 1: like he kind of waffles back and forth on whether
- 51:12Speaker 1: he even wants this to happen. He's not super committed,
- 51:15Speaker 1: to be honest, all things considered, But we sort of
- 51:20Speaker 1: leave things off with them just you know, with Chopper
- 51:25Speaker 1: preparing to do whatever it is he's going to do,
- 51:29Speaker 1: but we don't actually know what the plan is and
- 51:31Speaker 1: we don't see him execute the plan, and I am
- 51:40Speaker 1: this whole subplot it's sort of a weird combo of
- 51:43Speaker 1: like it feels so disconnected from everything else because everybody
- 51:48Speaker 1: else is in the castle at this point that I'm
- 51:51Speaker 1: sort of like, I just want my guys to catch
- 51:53Speaker 1: up with everyone else. But I also really do like Brulet,
- 51:57Speaker 1: and she's making these weird copies the two of them
- 52:00Speaker 1: that are unconvincing and keep fucking up, which is funny.
- 52:05Speaker 1: So the whole subplot with Chopper and Carrot, it's I
- 52:10Speaker 1: think it's just suffering from like I find Carrot kind
- 52:14Speaker 1: of boring. I love Chopper and I'm excited that he
- 52:18Speaker 1: is doing something both with his powers and also with
- 52:22Speaker 1: his brain because he's smart and he doesn't usually get
- 52:25Speaker 1: to be in charge of the plan. So I think
- 52:29Speaker 1: that once I find out exactly what it is he's
- 52:32Speaker 1: got up his sleeve. I'll be more engaged in this part.
- 52:35Speaker 1: As of right now, I'm just sort of about it.
- 52:38Speaker 1: I also do low key miss the Seducing Woods as
- 52:44Speaker 1: a setting. We're inside the Mirror World for a lot
- 52:47Speaker 1: of this, and it's just less interesting. The Woods was cool,
- 52:53Speaker 1: we had weird homies, we have like strange things walking around,
- 52:59Speaker 1: and the mirror world is just it was cool at first,
- 53:03Speaker 1: but it's become a little bit one note now. So
- 53:06Speaker 1: we'll just have to see how all this goes down.
- 53:09Speaker 1: I'm curious about it, all right, So let's talk about
- 53:16Speaker 1: what Chopper discovers because or not Chopper, sorry Brooke, he
- 53:21Speaker 1: is using that ability that he has to like disconnect
- 53:24Speaker 1: from his body to go into the room with all
- 53:29Speaker 1: of the UH commanders and spy and he sees that
- 53:34Speaker 1: the Pona glyphs. It's not the commander, sorry, but there
- 53:38Speaker 1: are some significant people. No, no, no, Smoothie is a commander, right, Okay,
- 53:48Speaker 1: Let's talk about Smoothie. Let's talk about Smoothie, because holy shit,
- 53:54Speaker 1: I had been trying to theorize what Smoothie's ability could
- 53:57Speaker 1: be and I just wasn't coming up with very much.
- 54:02Speaker 1: And it's like, like minor quibble, smoothies aren't juicing fruits,
- 54:11Speaker 1: they're actually blending fruits like the whole fruit. So this
- 54:15Speaker 1: doesn't quite really count. If we're really really going to
- 54:20Speaker 1: be an asshole about it, I don't care. It's fine.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Her ability evidently is that she can pick up victims
- 54:34Speaker 1: and ring them like a fucking dish cloth and yank
- 54:40Speaker 1: all of the life force out of them and consume
- 54:47Speaker 1: it like a beverage. You guys, this, first of all,
- 54:53Speaker 1: this is very similar in a way to Big Mom's power.
- 54:58Speaker 1: And I'm not sure if I'm reading it right that
- 55:01Speaker 1: she's like consuming their life force, but it seems to
- 55:04Speaker 1: be pretty close to what's going on. And the way
- 55:08Speaker 1: that she like picks these people up, it's literally with
- 55:14Speaker 1: her two hands, picks them up and twists them over
- 55:18Speaker 1: a glass, and it's pretty like it's I don't even
- 55:26Speaker 1: want to say that it's gruesome exactly, because what seeps
- 55:30Speaker 1: out of them isn't blood. It's like, uh a orange,
- 55:37Speaker 1: it's blood ish, but it's much more juice, like you know,
- 55:45Speaker 1: I'm I don't think it's just blood that she's drinking.
- 55:52Speaker 1: In other words, and I don't know if it's that
- 55:56Speaker 1: her power manages to sort of transform their body fluid
- 56:00Speaker 1: into something else as it comes out, because like it's
- 56:03Speaker 1: leaving her body looking like a different substance than blood
- 56:06Speaker 1: from the start. But oh my god, that is such
- 56:11Speaker 1: a creepy moment, especially because we don't know what the
- 56:15Speaker 1: woman who got twisted up even did. There's just a
- 56:19Speaker 1: sense of Smoothie being excited to do this. She smiles
- 56:24Speaker 1: about it and seems like this is super fun for her.
- 56:29Speaker 1: You know, it's extremely unnerving, I think in part because
- 56:35Speaker 1: there's no anger along with it. There's no sense of
- 56:38Speaker 1: like I am doing this and putting a sort of
- 56:45Speaker 1: face on it as if it's justice for some transgression
- 56:49Speaker 1: or punishment or you know, like which it may be,
- 56:55Speaker 1: but it's not mentioned. We just kind of walk into
- 56:58Speaker 1: the scene midway. So Smoothie also has a really weird
- 57:05Speaker 1: sort of design to her, and I Am not going
- 57:08Speaker 1: to be able to describe it adequately because there's not
- 57:13Speaker 1: I know, this is gonna say, it's gonna sound like
- 57:16Speaker 1: I'm saying there are simply no words, but like there's
- 57:18Speaker 1: literally not a good way to talk about the look
- 57:23Speaker 1: that she's got certain things are really like her hat.
- 57:26Speaker 1: It's almost like one of those very pouchy rasta hats,
- 57:31Speaker 1: except the pouch goes on either side of her head
- 57:34Speaker 1: instead of going toward the back her legs. It's like
- 57:37Speaker 1: she's got knee high boots, but the boots really resemble
- 57:43Speaker 1: goblets but are like highly decorated. She's got a giant sword.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I think that she's got like slung over her back,
- 57:53Speaker 1: and a tattoo on one thigh of like a rose,
- 57:57Speaker 1: like a real old school rose tattoo you would see
- 58:01Speaker 1: from like, you know, nineteen thirty. There's just a lot
- 58:06Speaker 1: about her look that is so excuse me, unusual in
- 58:13Speaker 1: terms of like shape, that I don't really know how
- 58:17Speaker 1: to talk about it. I don't have a good sense
- 58:22Speaker 1: of her personality. Really, this is the only thing I've seen,
- 58:28Speaker 1: and it's just her basically being happy to kill somebody
- 58:32Speaker 1: and wring their body. So I can pretty much assume
- 58:36Speaker 1: that she is a real piece of work. But otherwise
- 58:40Speaker 1: I don't really know much about her. And Brooke is
- 58:44Speaker 1: poking his head in here, and by that I mean
- 58:46Speaker 1: his spirit watching this whole thing, and this is when
- 58:50Speaker 1: he hears about how Pedro actually used to be one
- 58:54Speaker 1: of their number and betrayed them, and that like when
- 59:01Speaker 1: Brooke goes back to talk to Pedro, Pedro acknowledges this,
- 59:06Speaker 1: and Brooke is like, okay, so whatever it is we're
- 59:09Speaker 1: gonna do, we're gonna have to use you as bait.
- 59:13Speaker 1: And Pedro is fully on board with this idea and
- 59:17Speaker 1: is like, actually, yeah, I had already thought of that,
- 59:19Speaker 1: and that's what I was gonna say. So so we
- 59:23Speaker 1: have like a short scene of Pedro he has like
- 59:27Speaker 1: lured a couple of dudes into a hallway where they
- 59:32Speaker 1: discover a bunch of the pawn guards who have already
- 59:35Speaker 1: been taken out and like piled up, and they're making
- 59:40Speaker 1: Pedro very much like the face of the who's broken
- 59:44Speaker 1: into the castle and his wreaking havoc. It seems nobody
- 59:48Speaker 1: is aware Brook is even here. All they know is
- 59:50Speaker 1: that Pedro is here, and it seems to them that
- 59:53Speaker 1: Pedro is doing this like to get back at them
- 59:55Speaker 1: on a personal level. They don't know anything about what
- 59:58Speaker 1: his actual goal is. He and the second episode ends
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: with Brooke about to do his thing, and we get
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: a real fun like prelude to it of him being
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: like ladies and gentlemen coming at You live from Home,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Cake Island, and I was very into it. I really
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: really liked this as like the introduction to the moment
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: that Brooke is going to be fighting. Everybody has their
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: own sort of way that they get introduced because it
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: happens usually this way, where there's a build up for
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: the whole episode, and then we have the person who's
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: really going to fight standing there, and then the end
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: and the next episode will be when the fight starts.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: And usually the feeling of they're just standing there so
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: that the camera can scan over them while we wait
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: for the end, it feel a little bit like almost awkward,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: like all right, you're just standing there, you know. There's
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: a feeling of like like a strange silence that feels
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: like it needs something. But because he has this like
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: stage persona thing and he can say that while he's prepping,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: it fills that dead space and it makes it feel
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: a lot more natural that he's just sort of standing there,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: because this is what you do before you go out
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: on stage. You like take a second and you breathe
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: and you get in your headspace, you know, And so
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I just feel like it worked a lot better for
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Brooke than it does for a lot of characters. So yeah,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: I'm really really looking forward to seeing what it is
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: that Brooke does, because the whole thing is they're just
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: trying to take a rubbing of the ponic life. Obviously,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: they're not going to try and steal like the whole
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: fucking thing because they can't. So it's not an impossible mission.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: It's just that there's so much security. They have to
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: find a way to get everybody to distracted and in
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: a different place. Doable, but very risky, and so how
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: does Brooke pull it off? I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: All right, I have to wrap up, but thank you
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: guys again for hanging out. Appreciate you all and appreciate
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: you bearing with me when I forget things and reminding me.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: And I will see you soon with a new episode.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: Until next time to the Loo, motherfuckers. That was an
