- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by the hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:42Hypnotist you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:46all about panic and fear. And I was working with a client
- 0:50that had a panic attack in a medical operation.
- 0:55And at the time they thought it was just a one off.
- 0:57But then a couple of weeks later they had a similar panic attack
- 1:02in a public environment. And that put a seed of an idea
- 1:07in their head that they could have a panic attack in any place
- 1:11at any time, but that it would be most distressing if it was in
- 1:15a public place or if it was in the kind of place that they
- 1:18couldn't easily get away from, like being on a plane.
- 1:22And because they had that thought, their brain went into
- 1:25something called hyper vigilance.
- 1:27They were thinking and anticipating all of the kind of
- 1:30things that it would be awful to have a panic attack.
- 1:33And in turn, that increased the anxiety leading to avoidance.
- 1:39And they weren't like that before the 1st panic attack.
- 1:42So in this hypnosis session, you're going to be hearing a
- 1:45metaphor of a river and a former riverbed where rivers used to
- 1:51flow through. And the riverbed that's dry
- 1:54represents how they used to think and feel.
- 1:56And the New River is the thought process, the neural pathway that
- 2:01leads to vigilance and panic. And what this is all about is
- 2:05saying, well, look, that new way of thinking is actually
- 2:08contributing to the very anxiety that they want to avoid.
- 2:12So it's about using a metaphor, direct hypnosis and future
- 2:15pacing to reactivate the old neural pathway.
- 2:19Because when they thought and felt that way, that way of
- 2:23thinking, that resourceful way of thinking meant that they
- 2:25didn't have the panic attacks anyway.
- 2:28So there's evidence within their own experience that that way of
- 2:32thinking is more effective at reducing panic than the new way
- 2:36of thinking. And quite often you find this
- 2:38paradox with people with extreme anxiety that the preparation and
- 2:43anticipation creates the very thing that they're looking to
- 2:46avoid. So this hypnosis session, I
- 2:48think, will benefit anyone that has the fear of being anxious or
- 2:53the fear of having a panic attack.
- 2:55And in particular, if you felt something different in your
- 2:59past, then you'll get more from this session.
- 3:02Of course, it was created for an individual.
- 3:04Some of the references might not relate to you because I didn't
- 3:07know who you were at the point where I recorded.
- 3:09This. So if you do like the idea of a
- 3:12bespoke session customized to your exact situation and needs
- 3:17and outcomes, look in the description for a link to
- 3:20schedule a completely free consultation call because that
- 3:24will enable us to have a chat to see if I'm the right.
- 3:26Hypnotherapist to work. With you directly.
- 3:29For now, though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:32won't be. Disturbed.
- 3:33Relax and enjoy. The session.
- 3:56Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:07slow, long, relaxing breath. And as you exhale, feel a sense
- 4:17of tension, stress and worries feeling like it's leaving your
- 4:24body in your outward breath that's in.
- 4:32As you breathe in, just imagine breathing in distilled
- 4:39relaxation and confidence. And as you exhale, allow
- 4:48yourself to release any fears, doubts, worries, or insecurities
- 4:57and imagine the resourceful feeling is a bright, colorful
- 5:00energy. And imagine any of those
- 5:05tensions and fears as dark shadows just leaving your body
- 5:12in every outward breath. And therefore the deeper you
- 5:20breathe, the more resourceful and more relaxed you become.
- 5:28And the longer you exhale, the more it feels that you're
- 5:33releasing old ways of thinking and unresourceful emotions.
- 5:43What if now is exactly the right time to let go of something that
- 5:49hasn't been working? I want you to think of something
- 5:57you bought once that was meant to solve a problem, but it never
- 6:03worked very well. But because you invested in it,
- 6:07you kept it. But it never really did what you
- 6:12wanted it to do, until one day you found something that worked
- 6:20better. So you replaced what didn't work
- 6:27with something that did. And I want you to imagine that
- 6:35several years ago you bought a way of thinking, hoping that it
- 6:42would help. But what if that very way of
- 6:46thinking was the problem and not the solution?
- 6:54And as we plant that seed of an idea deep in your subconscious
- 7:00mind, I'm wondering if it's going to be minutes, hours, or
- 7:07days that you decide to let go of that ineffective way of
- 7:14thinking because something else works so much better.
- 7:23And we don't have to guess what that thing is because you
- 7:28already have it. The way you used to think meant
- 7:36that you found yourself in resourceful, empowered feelings.
- 7:43And when you felt that way, anxiety and panic was elusive.
- 7:59So get that sense that you're already weakening the very
- 8:06foundations of that ineffective way of thinking.
- 8:16That's it. Loosen and release the very
- 8:21foundations. I want you to use the power of
- 8:38your imagination to imagine a riverbank, but I want you to
- 8:48imagine there is a river flowing with water, and not too far away
- 9:00is a dry riverbank. And you can tell that the dry
- 9:06river bank used to be the main river until something happened.
- 9:16And when that thing happened, the water that used to flow that
- 9:21way started flowing into what now becomes the New River.
- 9:32What if the New River is long and winding and the old river
- 9:43was just a much better river than the new one?
- 9:49Imagine staring into the old river and the New River.
- 9:55One is flowing and one is dry, and just get a sense that you're
- 10:06willing to let go of something that is no longer serving you.
- 10:16I want you to imagine seeing both the New River and the old
- 10:22river, and I want you to get a sense that the old riverbed
- 10:31desires to be awakened, because the old riverbed was a way of
- 10:39thinking that made you feel relaxed and resourceful,
- 10:43confident and at ease. And the New River, this New
- 10:56River has a good intention, but it comes at a price.
- 11:06This is the river that leads you to feel anxious about what ifs
- 11:12and maybes, encourages you to avoid.
- 11:19Where was the old river? Would whisper in your ear.
- 11:25You've got this. You can handle this.
- 11:26This is easy for you. And if there's a part of you
- 11:33that would like to reawaken the old way of thinking and feeling,
- 11:40let me know. By nodding your head, that's it.
- 11:46Because your mind was trying to protect you.
- 11:52But in doing so, it leads you away from the very life that you
- 11:57want to live. And there is a part of you deep
- 12:03within that recognizes that you are not the anxiety, that you
- 12:12are simply the observer of all thoughts, feelings and
- 12:16sensations. Just like watching water flow
- 12:21past in the New River without needing to jump in.
- 12:29And even if that river still flows at times, you don't need
- 12:34to follow it. You can notice it, accept it,
- 12:44allow it, and then gently return back to the old riverbed.
- 12:56Because the old riverbed carries you to where you want to go.
- 13:04And it's OK to feel fear. And instead of using avoidance,
- 13:12you step into the fear. Fear is like shadows, action is
- 13:20like light. And often they don't coexist.
- 13:28And every time you carry discomfort an act in line with
- 13:34courage, more and more of that water is flowing into the old
- 13:41riverbed. I want you to get a sense that
- 13:51every time you avoid the new riverbed flows faster, but every
- 14:00time you show courage, it's like building a dam and reawakening
- 14:07the old river. You are not the feeling, you are
- 14:15the river that carries the feeling.
- 14:19And fear may rise like a ripple, but you remain that old riverbed
- 14:26beneath it. In all the times you felt the
- 14:32anxiety, you survived. Sometimes it was unpleasant or
- 14:41distressing, but you survived. You've survived every flood.
- 14:49And now I want you to imagine that you can ride the current.
- 14:59What if Calm returns the more you remember that old version of
- 15:05you, the version that made the evaluation that everything would
- 15:13be fine. I want you to imagine you are
- 15:21now seeing water flowing from 1 river being diverted into the
- 15:30old river, feel the neural pathway of resourcefulness and
- 15:33confidence awakening within you. And I want you to imagine a
- 15:40moment in the near future, the kind of situation or
- 15:46circumstance that once brought fear.
- 15:51But I want you to see yourself like you're someone else, Calm,
- 15:57relaxed and confident in that very situation.
- 16:04See it from all different angles, people nearby, an
- 16:10imaginary camera filming you. See it from all different
- 16:15angles. You in that situation, looking
- 16:19calm, relaxed and confident, unfazed, unbothered.
- 16:27And then imagine stepping into that version of you before the
- 16:33moment has even happened, and feel how it would feel to do the
- 16:40very thing that once brought fear in a calm, confident,
- 16:47relaxed way. And notice you're in a dialogue
- 16:52encouraging you, not trying to pick out dangers and problems,
- 16:59but telling you that you will be fine, that you can handle this,
- 17:05you can manage this, You've done it before, you can do it again.
- 17:13And if any anxiety starts to rise up, I want you to imagine
- 17:22seeing yourself like you're someone else.
- 17:26See yourself managing that anxiety like it's an old echo, a
- 17:32small wave. And when you feel confident that
- 17:37that version of you is back on track, calm and confident, then
- 17:42switch places. Feel back in your own body,
- 17:47feeling calm, relaxed, and resourceful.
- 17:52Echoes of anxiety are part of the process of reactivating that
- 18:00neural pathway of confidence, resourcefulness, and calmness.
- 18:08And allow your mind to imagine those very situations you've
- 18:17been worrying about or avoiding. Assume that they will go fine,
- 18:26and each time you do that you are reawakening the old
- 18:32riverbed. And imagine a year from now the
- 18:40old riverbed is now the dominant riverbed.
- 18:45And imagine yourself, one year from now, doing the kind of
- 18:48things that you could only do if this fear of fear and fear of
- 18:54panic was no longer an issue anymore.
- 18:58See that future version of you, absolutely resourceful, calm and
- 19:06confident, doing the very things that you could only do if a
- 19:13change was made that was permanent.
- 19:18Because when a riverbed reactivates, very quickly it
- 19:25gets deeper and wider. The old riverbed atrophies and
- 19:32the new one becomes dominant again.
- 19:37And I want you to imagine that your old neural pathway is
- 19:44awakening and will soon be the dominant, natural and automatic
- 19:51way of thinking. But you need to train that
- 19:57neural pathway by imagining things going well and then
- 20:03choosing to do things to test that they are indeed going well.
- 20:10And each time you even attempt, you are reactivating.
- 20:18The very way of thinking and feeling that will lead to even
- 20:23more positive evaluations. The self fulfilling prophecy
- 20:30that has been haunting you will now be helping you.
- 20:36So as you look at both riverbanks, see the river of
- 20:43anxiety is now dry and the river of resourcefulness is now in
- 20:50full flow and it's time to leave this place in your imagination.
- 20:55So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 21:01nose, wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, start to
- 21:05connect and calibrate into the here and the now.
- 21:07That's it as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you
- 21:13starting to count 123 Waking up 456, more alert 7-8.
- 21:20Open your eyes. Open your eyes. 910.
- 21:23Wide awake, Wide awake, wide awake.
