- 0:00Speaker 1: Aren't. Hello, everybody nailed it joined us always buy ours
- 0:03Speaker 1: bar Gas. Here is Evan Lazar and Alex bars.
- 0:09Speaker 2: For what you know, I don't think Romeo Dobbs, I
- 0:12Speaker 2: don't know that they're there. To me right now, it's
- 0:15Speaker 2: like they're where they were. I don't think they're worse
- 0:16Speaker 2: and wide receiver, I don't think they're better. You know,
- 0:18Speaker 2: you hope there's some internal growth from some of those
- 0:20Speaker 2: young guys, especially Kyle Williams, and we'll see what happens there.
- 0:24Speaker 1: So I think in a lot of ways too, they
- 0:26Speaker 1: just needed to get somebody in here that had turned
- 0:29Speaker 1: on his contract, that you know, had some longevity on
- 0:33Speaker 1: the contract. So no, he's god like designing. I think
- 0:35Speaker 1: he's a better player than I gave him credit for.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And I'm not just saying that because he's a Patriot. Now.
- 0:46Speaker 1: That's my favorite part about this time of year, Alex,
- 0:48Speaker 1: is when you have all these preconceived notions about players,
- 0:52Speaker 1: and we go through the draft and all this stuff,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and you watch all these guys and research all the
- 0:57Speaker 1: guys ahead of time, and then you get to the
- 0:59Speaker 1: draft and they put a little elvis on their helmet
- 1:02Speaker 1: and you're all of a sudden, You're like, you know,
- 1:04Speaker 1: I kind of like this guy, and it just like.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Changes your tune just a little bit.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I try not to do that too much, but it
- 1:11Speaker 1: does happen every time and time again. And I would
- 1:13Speaker 1: say Romeo Dobs that was number one in this free
- 1:17Speaker 1: agency class, where all of a sudden I started watching
- 1:20Speaker 1: him from a different lens and was like, all right,
- 1:22Speaker 1: actually I could see how they could use this guy.
- 1:25Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Anyways, Evan Alex Barth, Alex behind the Glass. I like Ace.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Actually I like the nickname because then you both are
- 1:33Speaker 1: named Alex, and it gets a little bit confusing, so
- 1:35Speaker 1: like Ace just kind of narrows it down a little bit.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Start going, Ace behind the Glass and catch twoin two
- 1:41Speaker 1: will be with you for the next couple of hours,
- 1:43Speaker 1: talking Patriots, talking free agency, talking draft, talking NFL news.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I want to start there on today's show and just
- 1:52Speaker 1: talk about some of the stuff that's been going on
- 1:55Speaker 1: around the league. And the other thing I wanted to
- 1:58Speaker 1: mention off the top, Barth, is that the last two Wednesdays, Yeah,
- 2:04Speaker 1: as soon as we have signed off this show, about
- 2:07Speaker 1: within an hour of two o'clock, there has been major
- 2:12Speaker 1: Patriots breaking news two weeks ago. I believe it was
- 2:16Speaker 1: the reported Stefan Diggs release at the time. Last week,
- 2:20Speaker 1: they signed Kevin Byer literally forty five minutes after we
- 2:25Speaker 1: signed off on the show. So I'm not saying that
- 2:28Speaker 1: that has anything to do with us. I'm just saying,
- 2:31Speaker 1: what is the breaking news that is going to happen today?
- 2:34Speaker 3: Are they going to like trade for a J Brown?
- 2:38Speaker 1: The Patriots fans are waiting. I think if they did that,
- 2:41Speaker 1: we might have to turn around and come back into
- 2:44Speaker 1: the studio and I would come back. I'd come back.
- 2:47Speaker 3: At the fire back up. I think so.
- 2:50Speaker 1: But let's let's start with NFL news with this Jalen
- 2:54Speaker 1: Wattle trade, and then I do want to talk a
- 2:57Speaker 1: little bit about some of the free agent signings by
- 2:59Speaker 1: the Patrio that we didn't get to last week, like Byered,
- 3:02Speaker 1: but obviously yesterday big trade in the NFL. I think
- 3:06Speaker 1: there's a lot of different layers to this trade from
- 3:08Speaker 1: a Patriots angle, But the trade Jalen Waddle to the
- 3:12Speaker 1: Denver Broncos from the Miami Dolphins for a first third
- 3:17Speaker 1: and a fourth round pick swap, and we got that correct.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I thought it was just a fourth round pick and
- 3:23Speaker 1: then some people were throwing first third and fourth. Yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 1: they didn't swap picks, right, it was just a fourth,
- 3:28Speaker 1: third and fourth. I don't know. I think it was Okay,
- 3:33Speaker 1: we'll figure it out. Anyways, that's the general foundation of
- 3:37Speaker 1: the trade. So I think there's like three different angles.
- 3:42Speaker 2: It was oh yeah, yeah they did swap fourths.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Okay, first third and a fourth round pick swap for
- 3:48Speaker 1: a Jayalen Wattle. There's three different ways to look at
- 3:51Speaker 1: this trade. There is the Miami side of it as
- 3:55Speaker 1: an AFC East opponent. There is the Denver side of
- 3:58Speaker 1: it as a contender in the AFC at large way
- 4:01Speaker 1: to localise it, Evan, and then there's also the AJ
- 4:05Speaker 1: Brown angle to this whole thing of well, if Jalen
- 4:09Speaker 1: wattles going for first third and a fourth round pick swap,
- 4:13Speaker 1: is that the asking price for AJ Brown? Is AJ
- 4:16Speaker 1: Brown worth more? Is he worth less? And like where
- 4:18Speaker 1: does that all fall in? So where do you want
- 4:20Speaker 1: to start? Where? What do you think is the most
- 4:22Speaker 1: important element of those things?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Just in terms of like do you think that they
- 4:28Speaker 2: would have traded him in the division?
- 4:29Speaker 1: No, I don't either. I don't think if they were
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think it was the Patriot would have been a
- 4:34Speaker 1: godfather offer.
- 4:35Speaker 2: So I'm not like, it doesn't bug me too much
- 4:39Speaker 2: that they missed. I wouldn't even qualified as missing out.
- 4:41Speaker 2: This is not a move I would have considered for them.
- 4:45Speaker 2: That's just kind of how the NFL offseason works sometimes,
- 4:48Speaker 2: So right, you know the thing for me when it
- 4:53Speaker 2: comes to aj Brown and I was talking about this
- 4:55Speaker 2: on felberd Maz yesterday and I think there's like this
- 4:57Speaker 2: looming question that we aren't really discussed in this and
- 5:00Speaker 2: I kind of understand why.
- 5:01Speaker 1: But I'd like to bring it to the table right now.
- 5:03Speaker 2: So first of all, the bills, as they're one to do,
- 5:06Speaker 2: ruined everything for everybody.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I love, I knew. Am I wrong?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Is with DJ Moore worth a second round pick when
- 5:12Speaker 2: Deebo the year before, he is a very similar player,
- 5:14Speaker 2: gets traded for a fifth I.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Think that that DJ Moore is younger and better than
- 5:18Speaker 1: than Deebo. I don't know about younger in years on
- 5:21Speaker 1: this earth, but younger in terms of durability.
- 5:24Speaker 2: DJ Moore worth a second round pick?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Uh?
- 5:28Speaker 2: No, The answer is no. You shouldn't have to think
- 5:29Speaker 2: about that. The answer is no.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Okay, I don't know I thought about it.
- 5:33Speaker 2: They skewed the market right. The value for a J.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Brown has been you go back to the dk METCALP
- 5:40Speaker 2: trade last year, you go back to the step digs
- 5:41Speaker 2: trade two years ago, has been a second in like
- 5:44Speaker 2: a high Day two pick, a high Day three pick,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and okay.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Like the market changes. I get that.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But right now, it's a fair ask for thirty one
- 5:55Speaker 2: Fraser Brown. Who's worth more in your mind? AJ Brown
- 5:57Speaker 2: or Jaylen Waddle?
- 6:00Speaker 3: Slightly? AJ Brown, but it's close.
- 6:02Speaker 1: It's close.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I think to me it comes down to fit maybe
- 6:06Speaker 2: with the team, but it's close.
- 6:06Speaker 1: It's about same. Right. So if I think a J.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Brown is a little bit better of a player, but
- 6:10Speaker 1: Jalen Waddle's a little younger, you're you're.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Paying a little more for production verse proven performance. Sure,
- 6:15Speaker 2: but okay, So if Jalen Waddle's worth let's say first,
- 6:18Speaker 2: the third and fourth round pick swap right, Yep, although
- 6:20Speaker 2: I think it was the Dolphins actually moved down in
- 6:25Speaker 2: the fourth, but first, third, fourth, whatever, Like AJ Brown,
- 6:31Speaker 2: A one in a three, if the one is the
- 6:32Speaker 2: thirty first overall pick, is probably a fair ask at
- 6:35Speaker 2: this point. Certainly, a one in a four is a
- 6:38Speaker 2: fair counter from the Patriots, maybe one to four and
- 6:41Speaker 2: something a sixth. If that, that's probably, and that's probably.
- 6:46Speaker 2: You know, these suitors are coming off the table. That
- 6:48Speaker 2: might be the best off of the Eagles get. But
- 6:51Speaker 2: the Patriots know that. And now these shooters are off
- 6:53Speaker 2: the table. What if they come in with a second.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Here's the question, because I have this long preamble, do
- 6:59Speaker 2: we think that Dolphins the Dolphins? Do we think the
- 7:02Speaker 2: Eagles would trade aj Brown for less than the comparable
- 7:07Speaker 2: market says he's worth, not the trade market. The trade
- 7:09Speaker 2: market is the best offer you have. If the best
- 7:12Speaker 2: offer you have doesn't match with what comparable players are
- 7:14Speaker 2: getting traded for, would the Eagles.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Hold on to him rather than lose the trade him
- 7:19Speaker 1: for less than he's worth? And that's it? And I
- 7:21Speaker 1: asked this as an open ended question. I don't know.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I'm not that familiar with how he rose, Like I'm
- 7:25Speaker 2: obviously very familiar with how he roseman, but like, I
- 7:27Speaker 2: don't cover him the way I cover this team the
- 7:31Speaker 2: world where the Eagles say the offer is not out
- 7:33Speaker 2: there that we want, We're just going to keep them,
- 7:35Speaker 2: And yet revisited the trade deadline or next cross the
- 7:37Speaker 2: season or whatever.
- 7:38Speaker 3: I Howie Roseman is not losing the training So.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I think that is a bigger I am more worried
- 7:43Speaker 2: about that than somebody coming in in offering more than
- 7:47Speaker 2: the Patriots. Right now, you look at the teams ahead
- 7:48Speaker 2: of them in the draft, if it's going to be
- 7:50Speaker 2: a first, the only team I look at that might
- 7:52Speaker 2: might do that is the Chiefs because they got that
- 7:55Speaker 2: pick after trading Trdente McDuffie twenty nine, right, twenty eight,
- 7:57Speaker 2: twenty nine, and then if it, if it, he gets
- 8:00Speaker 2: beyond the draft, and now you're talking about twenty twenty
- 8:02Speaker 2: seven picks, it's their value resets and it's a second
- 8:04Speaker 2: and a fourth. But that's the big question to me.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Is there a chance the Eagles elect to just hold
- 8:11Speaker 2: on to them?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Okay, so there's a couple of things there. I absolutely
- 8:14Speaker 1: think there's a chance that the Eagles would hold on
- 8:16Speaker 1: to him at least until the trade deadline, Like he's
- 8:18Speaker 1: still under.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Contract, not for not like not to say, okay, if
- 8:20Speaker 2: they don't trade him here, he's going to retire an Eagle.
- 8:22Speaker 2: But I mean go through ramp in the beginning of
- 8:24Speaker 2: the season.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't I don't think that Howie Roseman is
- 8:29Speaker 1: in any rush to trade aj Brown. It's just a
- 8:32Speaker 1: little bit of a tumultuous situation where there's some clashing
- 8:36Speaker 1: of personalities and clashing of ego and all that kind
- 8:39Speaker 1: of stuff. But I don't think that they're in this
- 8:41Speaker 1: like desperate hurry that we have to get this guy
- 8:45Speaker 1: off our team, right And.
- 8:47Speaker 3: He's also one of these jams.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And yesterday when we were talking about this on PU,
- 8:51Speaker 1: I compared him to Sam Presty in the NBA with
- 8:53Speaker 1: the Oklahoma City Thunder because he is the grim Reaper
- 8:57Speaker 1: right now, Like he's the guy that nobody wants to
- 9:00Speaker 1: trade with, right and there are like Stevens. Yeah, I mean,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I like to think Brad's in a similar category, but
- 9:07Speaker 1: I went with Sam Presty instead because not a Homer, okay,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and the Thunder chance, and.
- 9:15Speaker 3: He's the GM in the NFL right now.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that is that everybody kind of feels like is
- 9:20Speaker 1: operating on a higher plane than the rest of the league,
- 9:23Speaker 1: Like he is a smarter human being and a better
- 9:27Speaker 1: general manager than everybody else. There's Howie Roseman and then
- 9:30Speaker 1: there's thirty one other guys, and so when you look
- 9:33Speaker 1: at it, this way. I just I have a hard
- 9:37Speaker 1: time believing that Howie Roseman and Fred kind of brought
- 9:40Speaker 1: this up a little bit, like whether it's ego driven
- 9:43Speaker 1: or it's just being.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Shrewd and being good at his job.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I find it hard to believe that he is going
- 9:49Speaker 1: to make any sort of trade involving AJ Brown that
- 9:51Speaker 1: could perceived as him losing the trade. It just doesn't
- 9:54Speaker 1: seem like that's the type of guy he is. And
- 9:56Speaker 1: he has all the leverage, he has the player, he
- 9:58Speaker 1: has the player under contract, and he has a good team.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So there's like no reason for the Eagles to be
- 10:03Speaker 1: in a rush to trade AJ Brown anywhere. You know.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I think with Jalen Waddle it kind of happened in
- 10:10Speaker 1: a similar I don't think the Dolphins went into the
- 10:12Speaker 1: offseason thinking they were trading Jalen Wattle.
- 10:14Speaker 2: There's a lot of reporting them. They didn't want to, right.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I think that this was a really good offer. Yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and they and given where they are as an organization,
- 10:22Speaker 1: they took it. And I think, you know, we can
- 10:24Speaker 1: talk about d AJ Brown of it all.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I look at AJ Brown.
- 10:28Speaker 1: As maybe a slightly better player, but an older player
- 10:31Speaker 1: that might be more a little bit more on the downswing,
- 10:33Speaker 1: whereas Jalen Wattle is probably still at his peak and
- 10:36Speaker 1: his prime as of right now. You mentioned the second
- 10:38Speaker 1: and the fourth thing. You know, both these guys, but
- 10:41Speaker 1: especially I would say AJ Brown is a better player
- 10:44Speaker 1: than DK Metcalf. So like, that's that price for DK Metcalf. Well,
- 10:49Speaker 1: DK was a second in like a five to six swap, right,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and or you know that price for a thirty one
- 10:56Speaker 1: to thirty two year old Stefon Diggs.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I think it's more for AJ Brown.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I don't know if that was really the baseline of
- 11:03Speaker 1: that trade he got. Diggs was coming off in a
- 11:06Speaker 1: great season.
- 11:07Speaker 3: He was, but he was he's over thirty.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He was over thirty, so he needed a new contract, right,
- 11:11Speaker 1: But he's over thirty at the time, like a J.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Brown's only twenty eight, like entering his age twenty nine season.
- 11:16Speaker 1: It feels like he's older because he's been in the
- 11:18Speaker 1: league a little while and he.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Plays such older digs two years older when they made that.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that's fair. So just regardless of all that, I
- 11:28Speaker 1: think it's also really fascinating from a Miami Dolphins AFC
- 11:32Speaker 1: East standpoint, because just looking at.
- 11:35Speaker 2: One more thing on AJ Brown. Yeah, quick, the follow
- 11:39Speaker 2: up to my question about what the dolph with the
- 11:41Speaker 2: Eagles hold on with the offers not there? What he
- 11:44Speaker 2: forced his way out and then the Patriots get him
- 11:46Speaker 2: for like nothing.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So I don't know. I guess the reporting on that
- 11:50Speaker 1: is that he would prefer to be traded. Yeah, he
- 11:55Speaker 1: kind of feels the same way.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Like that was Shifter right yesterday who basically said he
- 12:01Speaker 2: said he got as close to saying he wants a
- 12:03Speaker 2: trade without saying he wants to try.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Yeah, because I think that that's how both sides feel.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I think both sides would probably prefer to move on,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but they also know that it's a pretty good setup
- 12:14Speaker 1: for AJ Brown and Philadelphia and the Eagles get a
- 12:17Speaker 1: good player and AJ Brown has a good situation on
- 12:20Speaker 1: a good football team. So I don't think either side
- 12:22Speaker 1: is requesting trades or anything like that because it doesn't
- 12:27Speaker 1: have to happen, you know.
- 12:29Speaker 3: It's just one of those things that, yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Like we had my drothers, like, I'd probably want to
- 12:33Speaker 1: play elsewhere at this point, but I don't. I don't
- 12:35Speaker 1: need to. I'm not in a desperate I'm you know,
- 12:38Speaker 1: at the Hurts counter like trying to get the hell
- 12:41Speaker 1: out of Philadelphia. So I think that that's where we're
- 12:45Speaker 1: at with doubt. As far as the Dolphins and you know,
- 12:48Speaker 1: just the AFC East, I commend them for understanding where
- 12:54Speaker 1: they're at and understanding that they are a couple of
- 12:57Speaker 1: offseasons away from being competitive again, especially because they don't
- 13:01Speaker 1: have a quarterback. I'm not counting Malik Willis as a
- 13:04Speaker 1: quarterback right now unless he plays really well with now
- 13:08Speaker 1: an offense that doesn't have a lot around him. So
- 13:10Speaker 1: I can't imagine that that's gonna be the case. So
- 13:13Speaker 1: John Eric Sullivan, their new general manager, Jeff Hafley, their
- 13:16Speaker 1: new head coach, like, they have some leash there.
- 13:18Speaker 3: They just got there, So they're.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Not they're not even if they win three two three
- 13:22Speaker 1: games next year, they're not probably going to get fired
- 13:25Speaker 1: unless it's an absolute crap show, which I don't think
- 13:28Speaker 1: it will be.
- 13:29Speaker 3: So they have some leash here, they have some runway.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I just look at this Dolphins team and I look
- 13:38Speaker 1: at the Jets and I just don't understand what they're doing.
- 13:43Speaker 2: I kind of the Jets are just gonna bought them out.
- 13:45Speaker 3: But the Jets are botting up for the second year
- 13:47Speaker 3: in a row.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no quarterback this year, but like unless they
- 13:51Speaker 2: take if they take Tye Simpson, I'll be very confused.
- 13:53Speaker 1: But the Jets to me, and I said this yesterday,
- 13:57Speaker 1: like the Jets, at some point you have to start
- 13:59Speaker 1: winning some football.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Well, I think it's when they get the quarterback.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Okay, but you how long are you are you?
- 14:04Speaker 1: Realistically and let's face it, like Aaron Glenn was teetering
- 14:08Speaker 1: last year, like he was right on the line of
- 14:10Speaker 1: one and done. Coach right, there was a real conversation
- 14:13Speaker 1: about that next year.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I think next year, so better quarterback class. The idea
- 14:18Speaker 2: is you sink to the bottom. You know, who knows
- 14:21Speaker 2: what the class wand up being. But there's a lot
- 14:22Speaker 2: of players people like it supposed to be much better
- 14:24Speaker 2: quarterback class. I don't know that, that's my guess.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I just always feel like that sounds great, that sounds
- 14:30Speaker 1: that sounds great, And then you get into the season
- 14:33Speaker 1: and it's November and December and you're two and eleven
- 14:36Speaker 1: for the second year in a row, and the coach
- 14:39Speaker 1: isn't really showing many signs of progress. He's not you know,
- 14:42Speaker 1: the team's not showing any signs of progress. You have
- 14:44Speaker 1: similar issues that you're talking about first year head coach.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I think this is a big reason why the Patriots
- 14:50Speaker 1: moved on from Drod Mayo as quickly as they did.
- 14:52Speaker 4: Well.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Also, we're trying to like give the Jets benefit of
- 14:55Speaker 2: doubt here.
- 14:55Speaker 1: The Dolphins are more Why.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Are we giving the Jets any benefit of the Doubt's
- 14:59Speaker 3: the Jets.
- 15:00Speaker 2: I'm saying that that we're trying to ascribe logic to
- 15:02Speaker 2: what they're doing. Oh Okay, the Dolphins make less sense
- 15:06Speaker 2: to me because they did have and maybe they want
- 15:09Speaker 2: to reset their roster right and they they did.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Have some pieces like that weren't bad players.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Waddle was certainly one of them, if you want to
- 15:18Speaker 2: go to the bus. So it's a copycat league. I
- 15:20Speaker 2: think a lot of teams are going to look at
- 15:21Speaker 2: what the Patriots did and say, we got to get
- 15:23Speaker 2: to the bottom. We've got to get to the quarterback.
- 15:25Speaker 2: We gotta have one big year in free agency. You
- 15:27Speaker 2: look what the Titans are doing, Like the Titans offseason
- 15:29Speaker 2: this year, they're signing stuff on digs away from basically
- 15:33Speaker 2: copying the Patriots homework word for word. Yeah, So if
- 15:37Speaker 2: you're the Dolphins, and that's what you're doing, Like, all right,
- 15:40Speaker 2: we're gonna blow the roster up, new coach, new GM.
- 15:41Speaker 2: We want to start out with fine, And this is
- 15:44Speaker 2: nothing against Milik Willis. Why do you pay Malik Willis
- 15:47Speaker 2: all that money?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:48Speaker 2: And if people you know, I've heard some people say,
- 15:50Speaker 2: well they believe in Malik Willis and they just wanted
- 15:51Speaker 2: to get him in the building, Well, then keep Jalen
- 15:54Speaker 2: Wattle and you know, hit the ground running.
- 15:57Speaker 1: You're trying to do both at the same time.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And like the Dolphins confused me a lot more. We
- 16:02Speaker 2: can argue whether or not it's the right idea for
- 16:04Speaker 2: the Jets to go to the bottom for the second
- 16:05Speaker 2: year in a row, but I think that's what they're doing,
- 16:08Speaker 2: whether it's right or round.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean right, there's no doubt.
- 16:11Speaker 1: What are the Dolphins doing.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I just know that.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And I guess this is more from a coaching angle
- 16:18Speaker 1: than it is you know, a higher level general manager
- 16:21Speaker 1: team president. Jets brought their GM back to right.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I do is this his second year on the job
- 16:28Speaker 3: or first?
- 16:29Speaker 2: I think this is his second year actually, so, because
- 16:32Speaker 2: if it's a new GM, then that changes things. Now
- 16:34Speaker 2: he was there last year. Okay, Darren Mogen.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I knew he was new. I didn't know if
- 16:39Speaker 3: it was.
- 16:39Speaker 1: This is January twenty five. So the whole point that
- 16:44Speaker 1: I'm kind of getting out with all of this is like,
- 16:47Speaker 1: at some point you need to start winning games. And
- 16:51Speaker 1: it doesn't mean that you need to be the Patriots
- 16:53Speaker 1: and go from four and thirteen to fourteen and three, right,
- 16:55Speaker 1: but you have to show a step forward in a
- 16:57Speaker 1: sign of some progress, because it's very easy to sit
- 17:01Speaker 1: here in March and say we're just gonna stink and
- 17:05Speaker 1: we know it. Then once you get into the season
- 17:08Speaker 1: and it's December and January and the losing starts to
- 17:10Speaker 1: pile up, and that starts to seep into your program
- 17:13Speaker 1: and your coaches up on the podium three four times
- 17:16Speaker 1: a week and getting peppered with questions about you know,
- 17:19Speaker 1: where are you going as an organization and all this
- 17:21Speaker 1: different type of stuff.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Owners in this league get cold.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Feet, They get impatient, They get worried about the public
- 17:28Speaker 1: image of it all. They get worried about the fans
- 17:30Speaker 1: are saying and the fans are thinking there's nobody coming
- 17:33Speaker 1: to the games. Like, they get worried about all these
- 17:35Speaker 1: things right, and then that if I'm Aaron Glenn and
- 17:39Speaker 1: less so as Jeff Hafley because he just got there.
- 17:42Speaker 1: But at some point, like you need to start winning
- 17:44Speaker 1: football games because it's not it's not enough to just
- 17:47Speaker 1: have like this sort of yeah yeah, yeah, like we're
- 17:50Speaker 1: we know we're not gonna be good.
- 17:52Speaker 3: It's fine, Like just go out there and coach.
- 17:54Speaker 5: You know.
- 17:54Speaker 1: That's that sounds great in the offseason. Once you get
- 17:58Speaker 1: to December and it's you see how bad it is,
- 18:02Speaker 1: then that's a whole different story. If I'm a Patriots
- 18:04Speaker 1: fan and I'm looking at the Dolphins and the Jets especially,
- 18:08Speaker 1: I would say the Miami Dolphins because I think the
- 18:11Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins are purposely trying to to lose games at
- 18:16Speaker 1: this point. I'm not saying I know that they had
- 18:18Speaker 1: that in their history. I'm just saying, like their roster
- 18:20Speaker 1: to me, like trading Jalen Waddle and stripping that roster down,
- 18:24Speaker 1: like they seem determined.
- 18:27Speaker 3: To kind of strip the roster like that.
- 18:29Speaker 1: That seems like the goal here, you know, to a
- 18:31Speaker 1: Tyree kill Jalen Wattle, Bradley Chubb, like that team is
- 18:35Speaker 1: going down to the studs. But both those teams like
- 18:38Speaker 1: those are four free wins. If I'm a Patriots fan,
- 18:40Speaker 1: right like, when you get the schedule in May and
- 18:43Speaker 1: you're looking at it, you're saying, well, we know that
- 18:46Speaker 1: they're starting at the floor of four and l because
- 18:49Speaker 1: they have four wins between the Jets and Dolphins. The
- 18:53Speaker 1: other thing, I just and then we can move on
- 18:54Speaker 1: with the with the Jets. I don't understand the Geno
- 18:59Speaker 1: thing just as much as I don't understand the Malik
- 19:01Speaker 1: Willis thing.
- 19:02Speaker 3: And at least the Malik Willis thing has some upside.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Like at least the Malik Willis thing, there is a
- 19:07Speaker 1: chance that Malik Willis is good. We don't know enough
- 19:11Speaker 1: right and in the little flashes that we saw of
- 19:13Speaker 1: him playing in Green Bay, there is at least a
- 19:16Speaker 1: sliver of hope that he could actually be a franchise quarterback.
- 19:20Speaker 1: We know what Gino Smith is and it's not good.
- 19:22Speaker 1: It hasn't been good for a couple of years. To me,
- 19:25Speaker 1: It's like if I was the Jets and maybe they
- 19:28Speaker 1: just didn't have the interest from the player side. But
- 19:31Speaker 1: like Kyler Murray is out there, he even Tua is
- 19:36Speaker 1: out there like that, at least like the reclamation project
- 19:39Speaker 1: thing exists with that right as a we saw this
- 19:42Speaker 1: was Sam Darnold, which you know the first time with Seattle.
- 19:45Speaker 3: You know, like you see these.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Mayfield They're they're just trying to get to the bottom
- 19:49Speaker 2: and get in position for one of these guys next year.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Arch Dante more Ligway saying like, sure, I think that
- 19:55Speaker 2: that's just what they're trying to do.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yeah, which I get we win some games eventually.
- 20:00Speaker 2: The difference to me again is that we can argue
- 20:05Speaker 2: whether or not the Jets are doing the right thing.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I more or less know and understand what the Jets
- 20:09Speaker 2: are trying to do. I don't know what the Dolphins
- 20:12Speaker 2: are trying to do, and they might not know what
- 20:15Speaker 2: they're trying to do.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I don't know what either of these teams are trying
- 20:18Speaker 1: to do. If you're trying to win football games, I
- 20:20Speaker 1: don't know what you're trying to do. Anyways, moving on
- 20:24Speaker 1: from that, we did get a little bit of coaching
- 20:26Speaker 1: staff news from the Patriots in the last couple of days.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I wanted to hit on quickly, so Drell Williams' assistant
- 20:33Speaker 1: head coach, that is his official title, Zach Corr now
- 20:37Speaker 1: officially official again, I think we kind of you know,
- 20:40Speaker 1: Raybill confirmed it at the combine, so it's not totally news.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Defensive coordinator Vinnie de Palma, who was basically the inside
- 20:48Speaker 1: linebackers coach last year when Zach Korr had to elevate
- 20:51Speaker 1: the play caller. Yeah, last year, he's going to take
- 20:53Speaker 1: over at inside linebackers. They added three new coaches to
- 20:57Speaker 1: the coaching staff, including Charles London, who has some experience
- 21:01Speaker 1: in the league, some experience with Rabel pass game coordinator
- 21:04Speaker 1: with Mike Rabel in twenty twenty three quarterbacks coach. So
- 21:07Speaker 1: that's a that's a coach in Charles London that has
- 21:11Speaker 1: some chops like he has some experience in the league
- 21:13Speaker 1: and has some you know, has been a high ranking
- 21:17Speaker 1: coach before on a staff and then to Coaster their
- 21:22Speaker 1: offensive line assistant. So now they have three offensive line
- 21:26Speaker 1: coaches again with Ryan Cooler leading Robert Cooler. Ryan Couler
- 21:31Speaker 1: is the director, Robert Coogler leaving to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 21:34Speaker 1: So they have that going on again with the line coaches.
- 21:37Speaker 1: But just your reaction thoughts on Terrell Williams in his
- 21:42Speaker 1: new title. I think it's still going to be a
- 21:44Speaker 1: lot of defense focus. Yeah.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I mean, good for them for figuring out a way
- 21:48Speaker 2: to keep everybody on board, right, and Zach Korr deserved
- 21:51Speaker 2: the promotion, but you'd hate to see Trell Williams lose
- 21:54Speaker 2: his spot because he was dealing with the serious illness.
- 21:57Speaker 2: So keeps everybody involved in it's you know, it sounded
- 22:00Speaker 2: like last year once he you know, came back in
- 22:03Speaker 2: the capacity that he did. And we don't know exactly
- 22:06Speaker 2: what Terrell Williams did, but like sounds like he was
- 22:08Speaker 2: just kind of a senior defensive advisor sort of thing. Yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 2: and clearly that worked, like the defense was very good
- 22:14Speaker 2: down the stretch. So it sounds like they've just kind
- 22:18Speaker 2: of formalized the titles to keep everything the way it
- 22:21Speaker 2: was last year was it don't change up the mac
- 22:23Speaker 2: and cheese. I guess we'll leave that in twenty twenty five,
- 22:25Speaker 2: new team, new saying. But it allows them to kind
- 22:28Speaker 2: of function It sounds like the same way they functioned
- 22:31Speaker 2: for most of last year, which obviously worked.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, So we talked to a Vaybel on Patriots
- 22:38Speaker 1: dot COmON at the combine and I asked him if
- 22:42Speaker 1: he could go into more detail about Terrell Williams's exact
- 22:45Speaker 1: role in terms of at the time we didn't know
- 22:48Speaker 1: the title, but in what it's going to be, and
- 22:50Speaker 1: he said that it's going to be very much still
- 22:54Speaker 1: defense heavy, you know, and he's going to be doing
- 22:57Speaker 1: a lot of coordinating type of responsibilities, presenting, you know,
- 23:00Speaker 1: talking to the players and meetings, a lot of focus
- 23:03Speaker 1: obviously on his expertise on the defensive line and developing
- 23:06Speaker 1: defensive linemen as well. And then he also just mentioned
- 23:10Speaker 1: sort of an overarching culture building and extending Mike Rabel's
- 23:17Speaker 1: message without within the walls, you know, and that sort
- 23:22Speaker 1: of thing, and sort of just being another extension of
- 23:24Speaker 1: Mike Rabel and setting the culture as well. But I
- 23:29Speaker 1: it's unfortunate how this all went down, of course, and
- 23:32Speaker 1: I want to be sensitive to that. But at the
- 23:34Speaker 1: same time, this does feel like a really good role
- 23:38Speaker 1: for Terrell Williams in terms of what I understand of
- 23:41Speaker 1: him as a coach, Like he seems like more of
- 23:44Speaker 1: a developer of players, a mentor type figure, a really good,
- 23:50Speaker 1: you know, fundamentals type of coach, really a really good,
- 23:54Speaker 1: big picture type of guy.
- 23:56Speaker 2: He's more and I mean, this is no slice just
- 23:58Speaker 2: usually you put coaches into one of two baskets, yeah,
- 24:01Speaker 2: player development and like schemer.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah, so you put the more in the player development. Yeah.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And Zach Kora I think has sort of the scheming
- 24:10Speaker 1: play calling a sort of gene within him. So to
- 24:14Speaker 1: kind of get the combination of those two guys I
- 24:17Speaker 1: think is really good.
- 24:18Speaker 2: You know, you want a good mix, it's usually hard
- 24:20Speaker 2: to get it from one person.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not exactly the same because of where they are,
- 24:25Speaker 1: you know, their titles and things like that. But before
- 24:28Speaker 1: it went belly up with the Patriots at the end
- 24:30Speaker 1: with Bill Belichick, like Girod Mao and Steve Belichick kind
- 24:33Speaker 1: of had a good thing going on on the defensive
- 24:35Speaker 1: side of the ball there for a couple of years
- 24:37Speaker 1: before you know, twenty one twenty two, Like those were
- 24:40Speaker 1: good seasons on the defense, and Girod Mayo was much
- 24:43Speaker 1: more sort of the big picture culture tone setting, you know,
- 24:48Speaker 1: player developer type of coach, and uh and Steve was
- 24:52Speaker 1: really the the because of the nose and the mastermind,
- 24:55Speaker 1: you know, making the play calls and all that kind
- 24:57Speaker 1: of stuff. And this is gonna sort of make a
- 25:00Speaker 1: similar sort of approach, just hopefully with more success, you
- 25:03Speaker 1: know in terms of team teams winning, you know, in
- 25:06Speaker 1: terms of wins and losses. But all good stuff there.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And the last thing I wanted to cover before we
- 25:11Speaker 1: get into our exercise here on the roster reset on offense.
- 25:15Speaker 1: We didn't. We weren't on the show for you know,
- 25:17Speaker 1: Kevin Byerd. He signs with the Patriots forty five minutes
- 25:20Speaker 1: after we signed off.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I heard a couple Julian Hill was that team too,
- 25:24Speaker 2: and Mike Brown.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna mention Jillian Hill as well. I
- 25:26Speaker 1: think that's another one that's worth bringing up. But what
- 25:29Speaker 1: are your thoughts on the buyered signing?
- 25:30Speaker 2: I love it, I love it. What was my big
- 25:33Speaker 2: thing that I wanted them to do on defense?
- 25:34Speaker 6: Oh?
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yeah, this playmakers playmakers, he gets the football. He's also
- 25:38Speaker 2: a good veteran still playing at a high level. If
- 25:42Speaker 2: they're going to this, I understand that they're going to
- 25:45Speaker 2: the more multiple safety, Like we're not going to have
- 25:48Speaker 2: the box safety and the free Safety're gonna have a
- 25:50Speaker 2: couple of guys that can do both and move them around.
- 25:52Speaker 2: But if they need to put guy, everybody's better at
- 25:56Speaker 2: one thing than the other. There really aren't any guys
- 25:58Speaker 2: that are truly just as good as so when they
- 26:01Speaker 2: kind of have to snap into strength on strength. Greig
- 26:03Speaker 2: Woodson more of a box safety, Kevin Byard more of
- 26:05Speaker 2: a free safety. So they fit the mold even though
- 26:07Speaker 2: both guys are have to have some good what's the term.
- 26:11Speaker 2: I'm looking for flexibility or whatever.
- 26:13Speaker 1: That's not the word.
- 26:14Speaker 2: But I like the signing, I really do. I still
- 26:17Speaker 2: want them to add a safety.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I've been big on this. You know this. I want
- 26:20Speaker 1: them to have.
- 26:21Speaker 2: The flexibility of three safety stats. Bayard is also thirty
- 26:24Speaker 2: three years old, so you got to kind of think
- 26:26Speaker 2: about and on one of your deal. So you got
- 26:27Speaker 2: to think about life after him. But man, so you're
- 26:29Speaker 2: gonna have and Greig Woodson a great, great rookie year,
- 26:32Speaker 2: but it is a workier like there's always run to grow, right,
- 26:34Speaker 2: You're gonna have a second year safety in Craig Woodson.
- 26:36Speaker 2: They should add somebody in the draft. What a great
- 26:39Speaker 2: mentor to have for a young safety room too, can
- 26:42Speaker 2: kind of do you hope what Morgan Moses did for
- 26:44Speaker 2: that offensive line room at pound for pound probably my
- 26:47Speaker 2: favorite signing that they made. I think that the whole
- 26:50Speaker 2: free agency great, great move.
- 26:52Speaker 1: You weren't you were patting the table for more turnovers
- 26:54Speaker 1: and just looking at it right now. And I know
- 26:56Speaker 1: that the numbers improved with the playoffs, but let's face it,
- 27:00Speaker 1: a lot of that was c J. Stroud in the
- 27:02Speaker 1: in the Texans game, Like you know, they had what
- 27:05Speaker 1: five turnovers in one game there, but they only first
- 27:08Speaker 1: forced a nineteen takeaway. Yeah. Regular season they were boughtom
- 27:11Speaker 1: half of the league. Yeah, which was if I'm just
- 27:12Speaker 1: eyeballing it, like tied for like twenty twenty first nineteenth.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I'm just looking at it on PFR. So, nineteen turnovers
- 27:21Speaker 1: produced last year by the Patriots defense. Kevin Byer produced
- 27:25Speaker 1: seven all by his loan, yeah, last year. So certainly
- 27:28Speaker 1: checks that box. He obviously has a great comfort level
- 27:32Speaker 1: with the defense and with the system and with the
- 27:34Speaker 1: coaching staff. So you talk about mentoring Craig Woodson like
- 27:38Speaker 1: you did, it's not even just that this guy has
- 27:41Speaker 1: longevity in the league. He also knows the defense like
- 27:44Speaker 1: the back of his hand, right, So there's a you know,
- 27:46Speaker 1: both elements there that he's able to check both boxes
- 27:50Speaker 1: and try try to bring you know, Craig Woodson along.
- 27:54Speaker 2: You watched it, You watched safeties yesterday, Right, I have
- 27:57Speaker 2: I have some thoughts on are we going to do
- 27:58Speaker 2: a recency buy?
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I have something on them in the second hour.
- 28:01Speaker 1: The other thing that I would just mention with the
- 28:03Speaker 1: Bayered thing. This happens sometimes at safety a lot like
- 28:08Speaker 1: it happens at quarterback. Where As the player ages, he
- 28:12Speaker 1: might decline in terms of his athleticism a little bit
- 28:16Speaker 1: incrementally each season.
- 28:18Speaker 3: But what he declines with athletically, he gains.
- 28:20Speaker 1: In knowledge answers to the test. Baby. Right, and this
- 28:23Speaker 1: guy when you turn on the tape of Kevin Byrd
- 28:26Speaker 1: and granted some of the interceptions. I was texting you
- 28:29Speaker 1: about this after the signing. Some of the interceptions weren't
- 28:31Speaker 1: against the great quarterback. He didn't have a couple off
- 28:33Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy.
- 28:34Speaker 3: He had at least one off JJ.
- 28:37Speaker 2: But you know what you talked about, You talked about
- 28:38Speaker 2: with the Jets and the Dolphins might be bringing to
- 28:40Speaker 2: the table this year.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Well, Gino's in the division. He picked off Geno twice.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Okay, I will say I mentioned this before about Geno.
- 28:46Speaker 2: The one thing you say about Geno Smith that guy's
- 28:49Speaker 2: a metash comes to Giett Stadium his last two games
- 28:51Speaker 2: at Jalette Stadium there he tore the Patriots, including this
- 28:55Speaker 2: year with the Raiders, he tore the Patriots up.
- 28:58Speaker 1: He also had one in garbage time against Joe Milton. However,
- 29:03Speaker 1: I when I watched all of them, I didn't necessarily
- 29:06Speaker 1: think that any of them were There's one against Jared
- 29:09Speaker 1: Goff that was on a tip throw.
- 29:11Speaker 3: There were the other six were legit picks like these
- 29:14Speaker 3: were not.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Oh, you know, Devin mccorty used to have those against
- 29:17Speaker 1: Zach Wilson, where he just standing, you know what? Fun?
- 29:21Speaker 3: That wasn't this though.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But you know what, also in the NFL, just nowadays,
- 29:25Speaker 2: and sometimes it's the schedule is act, what kind.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Of quarterbacks do you play?
- 29:29Speaker 2: More like the Zach Wilson, JJ McCarthy types or the
- 29:35Speaker 2: you know better ones.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I was trying to think of a guy, couldn't think
- 29:38Speaker 1: what who else did hetch? Jared Goff?
- 29:40Speaker 2: The Jared Goff's yeh, Josh Allen's yeah.
- 29:42Speaker 1: So Jared Goff was the one that that was a
- 29:45Speaker 1: tip throw. He picked off Jalen Hurts, all right, He
- 29:49Speaker 1: picked off whoever was starting at for the Saint set
- 29:53Speaker 1: the time. I don't know if it was shuck Er
- 29:55Speaker 1: Spencer Rattler, so not exactly like a world beater.
- 29:59Speaker 2: But again, there's more of those quarterbacks in the league
- 30:01Speaker 2: than yeah, then the the Josh Allen's and even like
- 30:04Speaker 2: the Jalen hurtses.
- 30:05Speaker 3: So he did a lot of.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Back to the good parts of it, though I have
- 30:12Speaker 1: not seen a lot of safeties that have the route recognition, instincts, anticipation. Basically,
- 30:19Speaker 1: we can all put this under the bucket of ball hawking.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Like this guy, he understands exactly what you're trying to
- 30:27Speaker 1: do to the defense, Like this route's gonna clear me out,
- 30:29Speaker 1: and this route's gonna fill in, and I, you know,
- 30:31Speaker 1: I'm just gonna sit here, but I'm not going to
- 30:34Speaker 1: overplay the route because i want him to throw it.
- 30:37Speaker 1: So I'm gonna make it look like it's open for
- 30:38Speaker 1: a split second and then I'm gonna jump the route
- 30:40Speaker 1: and we're gonna go the other way. His instincts and
- 30:43Speaker 1: his route recognition and anticipation are elite to lead to
- 30:46Speaker 1: lead like really really really good some of the best
- 30:50Speaker 1: that I've probably seen during like this era. Like obviously
- 30:53Speaker 1: you go back to like the Ed Reids and stuff
- 30:55Speaker 1: like that, but Bayern is just looking at the production too.
- 31:00Speaker 1: He's one of the best ballhawks of his era. I
- 31:02Speaker 1: don't think that's hyperbole to say that. You know, he's
- 31:04Speaker 1: been an interception machine throughout his entire career, so that's exciting.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Because I do think that they needed to turn the
- 31:11Speaker 1: defense so the offense over more. I think I think
- 31:14Speaker 1: they needed to have more takeaways.
- 31:15Speaker 2: They need to be more playmakers on defense. You're very preventive,
- 31:17Speaker 2: but they need to be more playmakers. And thanks the
- 31:19Speaker 2: person the chat. The word was versatility. I believe I
- 31:22Speaker 2: forgot that.
- 31:23Speaker 1: The one other thing I would say about the Buyers
- 31:25Speaker 1: signing though, And look, some of this was just his
- 31:28Speaker 1: usage last year with Chicago, But when I watched him
- 31:32Speaker 1: either playing man to man or matching receivers like it's
- 31:35Speaker 1: man to man down the field, those instances were a
- 31:38Speaker 1: little bit shaky, like I didn't necessarily love him in
- 31:42Speaker 1: those types.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Of receivers meaning pass catchers or receivers meeting literally wide receivers.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Either like either slot receivers like Romeo Dobbs who got away.
- 31:51Speaker 1: How do you feel about him covering tight ends? It
- 31:54Speaker 1: depends on how good the tight end is. If we're
- 31:56Speaker 1: talking about a below average, like a you know, low
- 32:00Speaker 1: level starting tight end in this league. I think they
- 32:03Speaker 1: could probably get away with it if you're talking about
- 32:06Speaker 1: one of these dynamic receiving tight ends. You know, if
- 32:09Speaker 1: they're playing Buffalo and it's Dawson Knox or it's Dalton Kincaid.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I don't love that matchup for Kevin byern So in Chicago,
- 32:18Speaker 1: they kind of got a beat on that and sort
- 32:20Speaker 1: of recognized at this stage of his career, this is
- 32:22Speaker 1: a guy that needs to be watching the quarterback size
- 32:25Speaker 1: and jumping routes like that, that's what we want this
- 32:27Speaker 1: player to be doing. So they played him almost exclusively
- 32:31Speaker 1: up top in the middle of the field as a
- 32:33Speaker 1: deep safety. Now he'll rotate down and you know, do
- 32:36Speaker 1: all the different types of post snap coverage rotation type stuff.
- 32:39Speaker 1: But he was a help zone defender, like he was
- 32:42Speaker 1: not playing a whole lot of man to man When
- 32:45Speaker 1: he was in Tennessee with Rabel, you saw a little
- 32:47Speaker 1: bit more of the man to man stuff kind of
- 32:49Speaker 1: what the Patriots did with their safeties last year, where
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know he's covering the slot. You know, he's carrying
- 32:55Speaker 1: slot verticals if they go from three by one to
- 32:57Speaker 1: do by two with motion. Now they're going to check
- 32:59Speaker 1: in this thing where the safety has a slot receiver
- 33:02Speaker 1: in Manta man like little nuances like that. I don't
- 33:05Speaker 1: know if I would love him in those spots. And
- 33:08Speaker 1: you just mentioned kind of safety still being in need
- 33:12Speaker 1: and still attacking that and all that kind of stuff.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I think that that's where they might need to still
- 33:18Speaker 1: dip into the safety market. Is we want Craig Woodson
- 33:22Speaker 1: to be on all three levels and doing his thing.
- 33:24Speaker 1: You want him to fly around like he did last
- 33:26Speaker 1: year and play a bunch of different wear a bunch
- 33:28Speaker 1: of different hats. You want Kevin Byer in the deep
- 33:31Speaker 1: part of the field doing his ball howking thing. So
- 33:36Speaker 1: that third safety then becomes a factor of whether it's
- 33:40Speaker 1: covering the slot, whether it's covering tight ends, whether it's
- 33:43Speaker 1: playing in the box, like all these different types of things.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Like that's the type of guy that I think if
- 33:48Speaker 1: you're just looking to acquire or draft somebody that's complimentary
- 33:53Speaker 1: to what you have and not necessarily looking at who's
- 33:56Speaker 1: going to start on this team twenty twenty seven and beyond,
- 33:59Speaker 1: you're looking for that type of player, But does that
- 34:02Speaker 1: contradict their starting sort of traits long term, you understand
- 34:08Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like that might be the best player
- 34:10Speaker 1: for the twenty twenty six Patriots, but is that the
- 34:12Speaker 1: best player for the Patriots twenty twenty seven before everybody?
- 34:18Speaker 2: You know, you're not gonna find a guy that's just
- 34:19Speaker 2: equal fifty to fifty bucks and free, Like most guys
- 34:22Speaker 2: are better at one thing, even if they can do both.
- 34:24Speaker 2: So you find a guy who's more polished as a
- 34:26Speaker 2: box safety, who you think has some upside to play
- 34:29Speaker 2: on the back end, and you bring him along primarily
- 34:32Speaker 2: playing near the line of scrimmage, with the idea that
- 34:33Speaker 2: in a year or two, you know at you're gonna
- 34:36Speaker 2: coach him up on expanding his role to play more
- 34:38Speaker 2: on the on the back end of things, and then
- 34:40Speaker 2: down the road he'll do more of that. That would be,
- 34:42Speaker 2: to me the kind of guy you're looking for. So
- 34:44Speaker 2: you know, I know you watched them these guys yesterday.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I did AJ Halsey. I freaking love AJ hawlsey Man.
- 34:50Speaker 2: That dude is a missile.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the most fun like, hard hitting enforcing safety
- 34:57Speaker 1: in this group. Yeah, this doesn't McNeil Warren right like that.
- 35:02Speaker 2: The Patriots take as a key, Wheatley would be a guy.
- 35:05Speaker 1: He's like a pure free safety to me. I think
- 35:07Speaker 1: he plays deep okay, the Penn State kid, Yeah yeah,
- 35:11Speaker 1: I think I think he's an uptime.
- 35:12Speaker 2: And I don't know if you watch VJ. Payne from Kendasy,
- 35:14Speaker 2: I did.
- 35:14Speaker 3: I watched him this morning.
- 35:16Speaker 1: The Three Guys. I really VJ. Payne was weird to me,
- 35:18Speaker 1: and I wanted to do some of this in recency bias,
- 35:20Speaker 1: but it's topical right now. VJ. Pain, I didn't want
- 35:24Speaker 1: to give you one more thing after this. He ran
- 35:26Speaker 1: a four four, but he doesn't play like he ran
- 35:27Speaker 1: a four to four, and I don't know if that
- 35:29Speaker 1: is mental.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I don't know if that was.
- 35:31Speaker 2: My thing, Like he popped at the combine and I
- 35:34Speaker 2: was like, who the heck is this guy?
- 35:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and then when you turn on the tape, he
- 35:37Speaker 1: doesn't look like a dude that runs a four to four.
- 35:39Speaker 1: So whether again that's a mental hurdle, like instincts.
- 35:45Speaker 2: At the combine, like he just moved really naturally to combine.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know, he just doesn't.
- 35:49Speaker 1: He doesn't like show that kind of speed on tape, okay,
- 35:53Speaker 1: And so that that was my one hesitation with him,
- 35:55Speaker 1: But I think he can do a lot of the
- 35:57Speaker 1: different things that you know, they they expect their safeties
- 36:00Speaker 1: to do. You know, I really like Bud Clark from TCU.
- 36:03Speaker 1: I think that if you're looking for a Craig Woodson
- 36:06Speaker 1: type safety, if you just want to have that Craig
- 36:08Speaker 1: Woodson Jalen Hawkins interchangeable safety type of thing going on,
- 36:12Speaker 1: Bud Clark does all the different things that they want
- 36:14Speaker 1: to do. He can match in quarters, he can play
- 36:16Speaker 1: some manta man, he can play over the top, he
- 36:18Speaker 1: can come downhill and fill the run. Like there are
- 36:21Speaker 1: all those different elements that they ask their safeties to do.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Those are like the three or four main boxes. I
- 36:26Speaker 1: would say you need to be able to cover from
- 36:28Speaker 1: depth because when you play quarters, they're gonna get matched
- 36:32Speaker 1: up on the slot occasionally, whether it's quarters or it's bunch,
- 36:36Speaker 1: you know, formation rules and stuff like that. There are
- 36:40Speaker 1: times where the Patriots safeties get matched up on slot receivers.
- 36:43Speaker 1: So you have to be able to cover like that.
- 36:45Speaker 1: You have to be able to cover out of quarters
- 36:47Speaker 1: too and catch guys from down the field. You know,
- 36:49Speaker 1: you're playing at like nine ten eleven yards off the ball,
- 36:52Speaker 1: and you have to be able to catch those guys
- 36:54Speaker 1: down the field. You have to be able to play
- 36:57Speaker 1: split or post over the top. You know, you have
- 37:00Speaker 1: range from sideline to sideline. And then I would say
- 37:03Speaker 1: those are the three most important boxes. And then the
- 37:05Speaker 1: last box you would check is if you can bring
- 37:08Speaker 1: some physicality and down hill, you know, thumping to the
- 37:11Speaker 1: blitz and run game, then like that's an added bonus
- 37:14Speaker 1: cherry on top. They did a lot more of that
- 37:16Speaker 1: obviously in the playoffs than they did in the regular season,
- 37:19Speaker 1: but that's sort of the cherry on top. And that's
- 37:21Speaker 1: this is why they moved away from Jabrill Peppers and
- 37:24Speaker 1: Kyle Duggar because those two guys were not playing with
- 37:27Speaker 1: that kind of range at the safety position, and they
- 37:30Speaker 1: need guys that can cover, like they need guys that
- 37:32Speaker 1: can cover a lot.
- 37:33Speaker 2: So then let me ask you one more thing you
- 37:36Speaker 2: talked about. You know, if they add this third safety,
- 37:38Speaker 2: you probably wanted to be a box guy, but you
- 37:40Speaker 2: also need somebody to develop as the free safety, like
- 37:42Speaker 2: the box roles would exist right now, So you need
- 37:44Speaker 2: somebody to develop as the free safety behind byered, you know,
- 37:47Speaker 2: you're burning two roster spots here.
- 37:49Speaker 1: But what if you took a guy like Wheatley.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Or whatever, one of these guys that you think profiles
- 37:53Speaker 2: more is a deep safety, and then you drafted either
- 37:56Speaker 2: like Kyle Lewis or Harold Perkins as coverage line coverage
- 37:59Speaker 2: line back to do so you split the role between
- 38:01Speaker 2: two players.
- 38:02Speaker 3: You could do that. You could absolutely do that.
- 38:04Speaker 1: And I texted you yesterday, I'm yeah, he was one
- 38:08Speaker 1: of my recency bias guys. Let's just do recent he
- 38:11Speaker 1: lies well. Harold Perkins was just on my list because
- 38:14Speaker 1: the rules, the movement skills are just so obvious, Like
- 38:17Speaker 1: he's just a great athlete, and I think that there's
- 38:20Speaker 1: always a combination of these things. You know, he gets
- 38:22Speaker 1: injured in twenty four. Do you watch any of him
- 38:24Speaker 1: before the injury. I didn't, but I know that he
- 38:27Speaker 1: was more explosive and a better athlete pre injury, which
- 38:30Speaker 1: makes sense. But he, you know, injures himself in twenty four,
- 38:33Speaker 1: has the torn acl He comes back in twenty five.
- 38:36Speaker 1: He doesn't quite have the same burst and explosiveness and
- 38:39Speaker 1: closing speed, but you still see a lot of the
- 38:42Speaker 1: athletic traits. You see a lot of the versatility to
- 38:44Speaker 1: play the star what they call the star, which is
- 38:47Speaker 1: the nickel and a lot of defenses.
- 38:49Speaker 6: Uh.
- 38:49Speaker 1: You know, he has that ability about him too. He
- 38:52Speaker 1: has some pass rush ability because of his history as
- 38:54Speaker 1: a pass rusher, really good pass so looking blitz and
- 38:57Speaker 1: stuff like that as well from off the b There's
- 39:01Speaker 1: just a lot to like about him as a player.
- 39:04Speaker 1: And you're probably gonna get him lower than he was
- 39:06Speaker 1: expected to go. And I think he was expecting a
- 39:08Speaker 1: top fifteen Peca and so this is a combination though
- 39:10Speaker 1: of like he got hurt ye and then he also
- 39:14Speaker 1: kind of didn't live up to the LSU hype right,
- 39:17Speaker 1: Like he's at LSU. He was living up to it
- 39:19Speaker 1: before he got hurt. Yeah, but he's wearing number seven
- 39:22Speaker 1: and like all that whole thing. And so now everybody,
- 39:25Speaker 1: I feel like the market has just you know, soured
- 39:27Speaker 1: on him completely. It's a good linebacker.
- 39:30Speaker 3: I thought that he that he.
- 39:31Speaker 1: Looked like a guy that could really help a guy.
- 39:35Speaker 2: You know, right now, he's expected to go early day three.
- 39:38Speaker 2: They have that pick at one twenty five. You could
- 39:40Speaker 2: even move up a little bit with those four to six.
- 39:43Speaker 2: He's just a really good football player, and you know,
- 39:48Speaker 2: two years off the knee, and he's still young. I
- 39:50Speaker 2: think he's twenty two years old. Two years off the knee,
- 39:55Speaker 2: you expect him to get some more of that explosiveness back,
- 39:57Speaker 2: some more of that twitch back. He's entering his eight
- 40:00Speaker 2: twenty two season, turns twenty two and September, so he's
- 40:01Speaker 2: still really young, still has a lot of runway.
- 40:04Speaker 1: You know.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I if you tell me to take him at sixty
- 40:07Speaker 2: two sixty three, I would say there's probably better linebackers
- 40:10Speaker 2: on the board. But fourth, for what we've seen him
- 40:13Speaker 2: do in the past before the injury and the fact
- 40:15Speaker 2: that he because people well you didn't want them taking
- 40:17Speaker 2: Chris Bell, that's a lot higher. And he's coming directly
- 40:21Speaker 2: off the ear. We've at least seen Harold Perkins back
- 40:22Speaker 2: on the football field. He's made some plays. Maybe not
- 40:25Speaker 2: the rad he did, but he's made some plays. I
- 40:27Speaker 2: I think that that he rules. I would love to
- 40:31Speaker 2: see him be a Patriot. Okay, did you watch Kyle
- 40:34Speaker 2: Lewis too?
- 40:34Speaker 1: Or I did watch Kyle Lewis and I see them
- 40:37Speaker 1: kind of similarly. You know, guys that you know what
- 40:39Speaker 1: I really liked about Kyle Lewis is that he made
- 40:41Speaker 1: a lot of plays on the other side of the
- 40:42Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. Yeah, he could shoot gaps and he
- 40:45Speaker 1: could really get on the other side of the line
- 40:48Speaker 1: against the run or like an end around er jet sweep.
- 40:51Speaker 1: He just shot right in the backfield and made the
- 40:53Speaker 1: tackle in the backfield. He has some of that coverage flexibility.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I think that he's more of a natural zone dropper.
- 40:59Speaker 1: But that's okay. But you talk about you know, I
- 41:02Speaker 1: just talk about all the split safety stuff they do
- 41:05Speaker 1: with the quarters stuff and the Cover two stuff. You
- 41:07Speaker 1: can put him as the pole runner in the middle
- 41:09Speaker 1: of Cover two. You can put him as a hook
- 41:11Speaker 1: defender in quarters, which are not easy assignments for most linebackers,
- 41:15Speaker 1: Like when you ask guys like that to either have
- 41:17Speaker 1: eyes to the front side of the formation and carry
- 41:20Speaker 1: verticals from the other side or run right up the
- 41:22Speaker 1: shoot of the middle of the field at you know,
- 41:25Speaker 1: linebacker size, like those are not easy things to do.
- 41:28Speaker 1: But Kyle Lewis is a guy that could probably do that.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I wish he was a little bit more physical, you know,
- 41:33Speaker 1: in terms of his run fits and things like that,
- 41:36Speaker 1: and you know, he's more of like I'm going to
- 41:38Speaker 1: shoot gaps and get on and you use my speed
- 41:40Speaker 1: to get on the other side of the line and
- 41:42Speaker 1: not necessarily something that's like compressing space and taking on
- 41:45Speaker 1: blockers and things like that. I think Harold Perkins has
- 41:48Speaker 1: a little bit more of that take on, you know,
- 41:51Speaker 1: twitch and power to his game, probably because of his
- 41:54Speaker 1: past rushing days, so like he has a little bit
- 41:56Speaker 1: more of that, you know in his game. But both
- 41:58Speaker 1: those guys, I feel like are are pretty similar. I
- 42:01Speaker 1: guess Kyle Lewis probably goes a little bit higher, just
- 42:03Speaker 1: because this tape last year was better.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not coming out, he doesn't have to knee
- 42:06Speaker 2: injury history. But they're similar those two guys. In Halsey, man,
- 42:10Speaker 2: I just you put one of those three guys in
- 42:12Speaker 2: the middle of your defense, and I think you're good
- 42:15Speaker 2: that those are guys can get their hands on the football,
- 42:17Speaker 2: or you just recreate LSU. Take Halsey and Perkins and
- 42:20Speaker 2: I mean.
- 42:20Speaker 3: They Halsey was fun.
- 42:22Speaker 1: He's He's one of those players though that has some
- 42:26Speaker 1: wartz for sure, Like if you put him into a
- 42:29Speaker 1: deep safety and if you put him in foot races
- 42:31Speaker 1: and like things like that, then it's not going to
- 42:34Speaker 1: go so well for him.
- 42:35Speaker 3: So there's moments on there's a lot of peaks and valleys.
- 42:38Speaker 1: On his heat.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Do you view him almost like a linebacker?
- 42:41Speaker 1: Yeah, like a like a hybrid safety. Yeah, you know,
- 42:43Speaker 1: like a just like they used to use, like a
- 42:46Speaker 1: guy like Kyle Duggar. Now he's the biggest safety in
- 42:49Speaker 1: this class. Like that was the one thing I had
- 42:51Speaker 1: about these safeties when I was going through him. Halsey's
- 42:55Speaker 1: two hundred and fifteen pounds and at least acquording to
- 42:58Speaker 1: he's probably more than that my draftable. Yeah, that is
- 43:02Speaker 1: the biggest safety in the class in terms of weight.
- 43:05Speaker 1: It's even bigger than McNeil Warren because McNeil Warren is
- 43:08Speaker 1: a little bit leaner, Like he's like six three two ten.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Uh So this is not a big safety class now,
- 43:16Speaker 1: Is that because a lot of those guys that were
- 43:18Speaker 1: too twenty plus or technically linebackers, like we just mentioned
- 43:21Speaker 1: Kyle Lewis. I think in a past life, Kyle Lewis
- 43:25Speaker 1: twenty years ago might have been considered to a lot
- 43:27Speaker 1: of people to be a safety. But now in today's
- 43:30Speaker 1: day and age, he's a linebacker. And as I was
- 43:32Speaker 1: going through the linebackers, you know, I'm writing down to
- 43:35Speaker 1: twenty to twenty five a lot, and I'm like, okay, well,
- 43:38Speaker 1: these guys are just modern linebackers. These guys used to
- 43:42Speaker 1: be strong safeties, right, so the safety is in this group. Uh.
- 43:46Speaker 3: To me, if there's one, I don't even know if
- 43:48Speaker 3: it's a knock.
- 43:48Speaker 1: But there weren't a whole lot of guys that were
- 43:52Speaker 1: A big and B were like real true tone setters,
- 43:57Speaker 1: like enforcing type of safeties. There are a lot of
- 43:59Speaker 1: guys that can cover though. You know, we we mentioned
- 44:02Speaker 1: a couple of them. But you know, I was watching
- 44:06Speaker 1: the kid from from Arizona this morning. What's his name?
- 44:10Speaker 1: It's escaping me.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Oh, the hybrid corner safety.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Genesis Smith, right, something like that. He's good.
- 44:20Speaker 3: No, No, not him, it's Genesis.
- 44:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:23Speaker 1: They have a couple hyperd guys. Yeah. So he can
- 44:25Speaker 1: play the slot or he can play free. He played
- 44:27Speaker 1: free last year and twenty five played more of the
- 44:29Speaker 1: slot twenty twenty four. Uh, so he can do a
- 44:32Speaker 1: little bit of both. Kill Gore is a slot to me,
- 44:36Speaker 1: true nickel, Uh, bigger nickel. Then you have a guy
- 44:40Speaker 1: like Ramsey from USC who's a really good cover player
- 44:42Speaker 1: in the deep part of the field. You know, there's
- 44:45Speaker 1: a lot of guys like that in this class that
- 44:47Speaker 1: are really, really good in coverage. I just was wanting
- 44:50Speaker 1: more in terms of physicality and what they brought in
- 44:52Speaker 1: the run game. But if you had physicality and we're
- 44:55Speaker 1: really good in coverage, then you're Dylan.
- 44:57Speaker 3: Dynaman and then you're right.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 3: But that that was just my thoughts on the safety class.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Uh, let's let's get into the other exercise that we
- 45:05Speaker 1: wanted to do. You know, we can talk more about
- 45:08Speaker 1: draft prospects throughout this entire thing, so plenty more to
- 45:11Speaker 1: do on the draft there. But as I normally do,
- 45:15Speaker 1: I we wanted to reset the roster here post free agency.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Uh we'll start with offense this week, and then next
- 45:22Speaker 1: week we'll do defense. We'll get to a couple of
- 45:24Speaker 1: positions and we'll take a break and we'll finish up
- 45:26Speaker 1: on the other side of the break. But we can
- 45:28Speaker 1: start with quarterback and that will be quick and easy.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Uh So three quarterbacks right now on the roster. Uh,
- 45:34Speaker 1: some guy named Drake May, Joshua Dobbs, and Tommy DeVito.
- 45:38Speaker 1: So I think that you know the facilitation question here,
- 45:41Speaker 1: which is how I kind of set this up I'll
- 45:43Speaker 1: read the names and then I have my my host question,
- 45:46Speaker 1: uh to present to the to the group, is this it?
- 45:50Speaker 3: Like are they senate quarterback?
- 45:52Speaker 1: They'll add they'll add a fourth guy forgetting right, but like,
- 45:55Speaker 1: is it Ben Woolridge or is it somebodys so someone
- 46:00Speaker 1: a little bit better.
- 46:00Speaker 2: I don't know how you know how much you know
- 46:02Speaker 2: about Joe Fagnano.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Not a ton so he was.
- 46:08Speaker 2: He's like, I think, seven year college player, he played
- 46:11Speaker 2: it Maine for most of his career, went to Yukon
- 46:15Speaker 2: last year. Is only year as a full time starter.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Through twenty eight touchdowns and one pick. And you know,
- 46:20Speaker 2: he's got good size six three to twenty five, like
- 46:24Speaker 2: just accurate, kind of understands the guests.
- 46:28Speaker 1: He's the game well, you know, for he's played a
- 46:30Speaker 1: lot of football.
- 46:30Speaker 2: For guy coming out of the Dragons, Josh McDaniel's third
- 46:33Speaker 2: or fourth quarterback, Okay, he's probably gonna go you know,
- 46:36Speaker 2: late day three or undrafted.
- 46:37Speaker 1: So we're we're definitely and we're both aligned in the
- 46:41Speaker 1: fact that the the if they add a quarterback, it's
- 46:44Speaker 1: going to be six seventh round UDFA priority free agent
- 46:48Speaker 1: type of status. We're not talking about them actually using
- 46:51Speaker 1: a legitimate draft pick. Let's call it top one fifty
- 46:54Speaker 1: on a quarterback this year. I got obviously the backup
- 46:58Speaker 1: Drake may or not.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I butchered that name, by the way, Uh Finano
- 47:02Speaker 2: I got.
- 47:03Speaker 1: I'm terrible with names.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I got one more for you, a quarterback.
- 47:06Speaker 5: Did you why?
- 47:07Speaker 2: Because I asked you this? I don't think you watched him,
- 47:08Speaker 2: but I'm just gonna ask did you watch Haynes King?
- 47:13Speaker 1: No? From Georgia Tech.
- 47:15Speaker 2: I wonder if Hayes King's future in the NFL is
- 47:18Speaker 2: at another position? Okay, and that could be something.
- 47:20Speaker 1: He's gonna go late tick he gets drafted.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Uh more physical like he's not. He's he's really good
- 47:28Speaker 2: with the ball in his hands. He just you watch
- 47:30Speaker 2: him at Georgia Tech. He's just like a winning football player,
- 47:32Speaker 2: Like he makes plays. Ran a four four six forty
- 47:35Speaker 2: with a three eight nine three cone of the combine.
- 47:37Speaker 2: He's six two to twelve. He's just not developed enough
- 47:39Speaker 2: as a passer, and he's already older. I think he
- 47:41Speaker 2: was in college for five years. Like, I mean, the lazy,
- 47:44Speaker 2: the lazy comp is uh take some hill. Yeah, and
- 47:49Speaker 2: he's probably more of a running back than the tight end.
- 47:51Speaker 2: But like, okay, out of that that, he's probably on
- 47:54Speaker 2: my radar more than any quarterback.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Adding an athlete back there that maybe is a in
- 48:00Speaker 1: the quarterback stuff with Yeah, yeah, okay, I guess I
- 48:04Speaker 1: could feel that. I I don't think that. You know,
- 48:07Speaker 1: when the Tommy DeVito contract numbers came out, there's a
- 48:11Speaker 1: lot of WHOA, that's a lot of that's a backup
- 48:13Speaker 1: quarterback contract. I think it could be. I don't see
- 48:17Speaker 1: them moving on from Joshua Dobbs. Maybe they do that
- 48:21Speaker 1: after this season. I think Dobbs is only on a
- 48:22Speaker 1: two year contract contract. Yeah, but I think this is
- 48:26Speaker 1: pretty much it.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Just do me a favorite at some point, wat change King.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Okay, I'll try. Let's move on to the running backs.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:33Speaker 1: I got five running backs on the roster currently, ramondra Stephenson,
- 48:37Speaker 1: Treveon Henderson, Terrell Jennings, Land Larison, and Elijah Mitchell signed
- 48:42Speaker 1: a futures deal, so he's still here as well. My
- 48:45Speaker 1: question to you is this, because you know my disdain
- 48:47Speaker 1: for drafting running backs, they should Here's my question though,
- 48:51Speaker 1: Just allow me to facilitate. Are we ruling out Land,
- 48:55Speaker 1: Larison or Terrell Jennings as a third running back. I
- 48:58Speaker 1: more specifically want to talk about Land Larison, Yeah, because
- 49:01Speaker 1: he's sort of the forgotten one because of the injury
- 49:04Speaker 1: in this group.
- 49:05Speaker 3: Or do they need to look to the draft.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Not rolling them out?
- 49:09Speaker 2: But I would like to have more competition for that
- 49:11Speaker 2: spot than Larison and Jennings. I also I need realist,
- 49:14Speaker 2: like it's real way too early to do this. Do
- 49:18Speaker 2: we think they can get Land Larrison in the practice squad?
- 49:21Speaker 2: Do we think they get Jennings practice?
- 49:22Speaker 1: Who the heck knows what happens in camp, Like if
- 49:25Speaker 1: he has a great and then he went with the job.
- 49:27Speaker 2: But like we saw how fast that that depth evaporates
- 49:31Speaker 2: that you want four guys in the building. Now you
- 49:33Speaker 2: only need three on the roster, but you want four
- 49:35Speaker 2: in a building, or maybe you draft some guy late
- 49:37Speaker 2: and he's the one you get on the practice squad.
- 49:39Speaker 2: I want to see him at a running back. I
- 49:41Speaker 2: don't think they need to do it in the top
- 49:42Speaker 2: one fifty. But even with that one seventy one pick,
- 49:46Speaker 2: I think is their fifth round pick. Like, yeah, I
- 49:49Speaker 2: do think they should add a running back. I want
- 49:51Speaker 2: more competition in that room. Demon Claiborne somebody I look
- 49:54Speaker 2: at from Wake Forest. You know there are some guys
- 49:57Speaker 2: later that might go undrafted. I'm guessing you haven't watch
- 50:00Speaker 2: ja not so. Jay Nott's interesting because he was like
- 50:03Speaker 2: the man at Cal as a sophomore. Then he got
- 50:07Speaker 2: hurt and he transferred to Oklahoma and he just kind
- 50:10Speaker 2: of never played. So it's there's one unbelievable and he
- 50:14Speaker 2: looks like at Josh McDaniel's running back. I mean, you
- 50:16Speaker 2: watch him at Cal and it's he's such a fit
- 50:19Speaker 2: for the Patriots, but he hasn't done anything in like
- 50:21Speaker 2: three years. So is that a guy you take a
- 50:23Speaker 2: flyer on late or is he udfa kind of similar?
- 50:26Speaker 1: More of a powerback. CJ.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Donaldson was awesome. He's a converted tight end. His makeup
- 50:31Speaker 2: super interesting. Was that West Virginia It was really good.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Transferred to Ohio State, got buried on the depth chart
- 50:37Speaker 2: behind a guy.
- 50:38Speaker 1: How about this? He goes by Bo Jackson because he
- 50:42Speaker 1: doesn't want to go you know, he doesn't want to
- 50:43Speaker 1: get confused by the guy who's really near. I don't
- 50:45Speaker 1: know that's why.
- 50:46Speaker 2: But like his nickname is bo Jackson, his real name
- 50:48Speaker 2: is Lamar Jackson.
- 50:50Speaker 1: So he doesn't want to go by Lamar. So it was
- 50:52Speaker 1: by Bo the generational guy.
- 50:54Speaker 2: I don't know that's for sure why, but I find
- 50:56Speaker 2: that amusing. But anyway, there's a bunch of running backs
- 50:58Speaker 2: you can get like it's not a good runs and
- 51:01Speaker 2: guys like and Adam Randall. Adam Randall might go too high. Yeah,
- 51:05Speaker 2: his stock is shooting way up. And I know he
- 51:07Speaker 2: was here yesterday.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Did you watch him?
- 51:09Speaker 3: I've seen a couple of highlights of him.
- 51:11Speaker 1: I haven't really and watched as the highlights I saw
- 51:15Speaker 1: a lot of them were him playing receiver. He hasn't
- 51:17Speaker 1: played running back down well.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So, I mean, which is fine, Like, but
- 51:21Speaker 3: you know.
- 51:22Speaker 2: I gotta you gotta watch it. He took a thirty visit.
- 51:25Speaker 2: I know you don't like watching the Day three running
- 51:26Speaker 2: back I watch.
- 51:27Speaker 3: I know I'm not rolling out Larison.
- 51:30Speaker 1: I just want more competition. Sure, I think the question
- 51:33Speaker 1: with Larison is just, uh, you know, I look at
- 51:36Speaker 1: Larison as a pass game player. I think that that's
- 51:38Speaker 1: how he's going to succeed in the NFL. Now, is
- 51:41Speaker 1: there a little bit of you know, some versatility to
- 51:45Speaker 1: run the ball in sub package and catch passes kind
- 51:47Speaker 1: of like James White's role, where like James White still
- 51:50Speaker 1: ran the ball a little bit when they spread it out,
- 51:52Speaker 1: but it wasn't like early down you know bell cow
- 51:55Speaker 1: type of running. Maybe that's the case a runner a
- 51:59Speaker 1: little bit. He's like so good in the.
- 52:02Speaker 3: Spring last year as a receiver.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Mike comf for him remains Brandon Bolden.
- 52:06Speaker 3: He's not as big as Brandon, He's not as big as.
- 52:07Speaker 2: A band in Brandon Bolden, but mainly a special team's guy.
- 52:11Speaker 2: But he keep him as your last running back.
- 52:12Speaker 1: He can catch the guy you're described.
- 52:15Speaker 2: I I will know Rex burke Hat had a bigger
- 52:17Speaker 2: offensive role.
- 52:18Speaker 1: So you don't think that land Nearrison is going to
- 52:20Speaker 1: play as much on offense as Burkhead. Not immediately, maybe
- 52:24Speaker 1: in a couple of years, but you don't think he
- 52:26Speaker 1: like do you think he has the potential because Brandon
- 52:28Speaker 1: Bolden is a twenty twenty six Brandon Bolden's in a
- 52:33Speaker 1: break glass in case of emergency running back for the Patriots.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Maybe a little more than that, right right, Ed Kidd
- 52:38Speaker 2: played like as a factor, he played a feature role.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Sometimes factor he was a factor back except whatever's in
- 52:43Speaker 2: between that. But in twenty twenty six, closer to Bolden.
- 52:47Speaker 3: I'm not giving up my Landlarrison stock.
- 52:49Speaker 1: I will I'm not either, Like I'm not, but I
- 52:51Speaker 1: liked what I saw last spring. The injury was obviously unfortunate,
- 52:55Speaker 1: but if you look at what he did last spring
- 52:57Speaker 1: and then before he got hurt in training camp, like,
- 52:59Speaker 1: I think there's a little bit of something there. I do,
- 53:02Speaker 1: so I would hold out hope there. They want to
- 53:04Speaker 1: throw a sixth round pick, they have four six round picks,
- 53:08Speaker 1: so if they want to use one of those picks
- 53:10Speaker 1: on a running back, I'm not like, no one's going
- 53:12Speaker 1: to lose any sleep over that. I'm not going to,
- 53:14Speaker 1: you know, be mad at them for it or anything
- 53:16Speaker 1: like that. But you're invested in Remandra Stevenson, You're invested
- 53:20Speaker 1: heavily in Trevon Henderson as a top second round pick.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Part of investing in those guys is making sure you're
- 53:26Speaker 1: not running them into the ground. Sure, so I think
- 53:27Speaker 1: the guy that can kick a third guy. They don't
- 53:30Speaker 1: need to spend anything significant.
- 53:32Speaker 2: I tell you, like one seventy one if they want
- 53:34Speaker 2: to trade up a little bit, like I fifth round
- 53:36Speaker 2: to meets the ceiling for taking a running back, but
- 53:38Speaker 2: they should take one or get one of those udfas
- 53:41Speaker 2: that I like.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Potentially, I would say kick return.
- 53:46Speaker 2: To like it a lot of those guys I just
- 53:48Speaker 2: named her.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Potentially on a kick returner right as well. So interesting
- 53:53Speaker 1: group there with the running backs. Let's do the tight
- 53:56Speaker 1: ends and then we'll take a break. So at tight
- 53:58Speaker 1: end as of right down, I I combine this with
- 54:00Speaker 1: tight ends and full backs. We have Hunter, Henry, Julian Hill, CJ. Dupree,
- 54:05Speaker 1: Reggie Gilliam, brock Lampy technically Jack Westover as of right
- 54:11Speaker 1: now on the exclusive rights free agent tender, and Marshall
- 54:14Speaker 1: Lang tight end that is kicking around on a futures
- 54:17Speaker 1: contract as well. So we know Henry, Hill, Gilliam are
- 54:21Speaker 1: all going to be here. I don't know what they
- 54:24Speaker 1: do in terms of their depth at full back. It
- 54:26Speaker 1: just maybe one of those guys sticks around on the
- 54:29Speaker 1: practice squad just in case Gilliam gets hurt, right and
- 54:32Speaker 1: they have.
- 54:32Speaker 3: A backup full back.
- 54:34Speaker 1: I think the biggest question that I have going in,
- 54:36Speaker 1: and we didn't talk enough about Julian Hill because we
- 54:39Speaker 1: got kind of sidetracked. So we can do that here
- 54:40Speaker 1: a little bit. Does adding a pure blocking tight end
- 54:45Speaker 1: like Julian Hill change the draft outlook in terms of
- 54:48Speaker 1: the type of tight end that you're looking for them
- 54:50Speaker 1: to add, Like, now, would you feel more comfortable because
- 54:54Speaker 1: I'm usually anti this, but would you feel more comfortable
- 54:56Speaker 1: with a true move with the slot receiver tight end
- 55:00Speaker 1: and like an Eli Stores or Michael Trigg or somebody
- 55:03Speaker 1: like that.
- 55:03Speaker 2: And like Michael Trigg, I also like Taikwon right by
- 55:06Speaker 2: the way, that's the day three version of He's the
- 55:08Speaker 2: day three version Michael Trigg. I think it opens the
- 55:11Speaker 2: door more for it in the immediate But part of
- 55:14Speaker 2: the drafting a tight end take to me this year,
- 55:17Speaker 2: especially if you're gonna take a guy on the higher end.
- 55:20Speaker 2: And Sam Rousch has moved right up to the edge
- 55:23Speaker 2: of the top one hundred on the consensus board. Oscar
- 55:25Speaker 2: delp Ran a four to four to eight today he
- 55:27Speaker 2: might be a top one hundred pick.
- 55:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Part part of the draw there if you're taking a
- 55:33Speaker 2: guy high is this isn't your tight end to long term.
- 55:36Speaker 2: This is the guy that's eventually going to step in
- 55:37Speaker 2: front Henry and I want that tight end that's gonna
- 55:39Speaker 2: be on the field most of the time to be
- 55:41Speaker 2: able to do everything. If you draft Michael Trigg, or
- 55:45Speaker 2: you draft Justin Joe Lee, or you draft Tanner Kozial, Right,
- 55:49Speaker 2: that's your tight that's a long term tight end too.
- 55:51Speaker 2: You still, I still would want them to come back
- 55:53Speaker 2: next year. Okay, who are you drafting to be the
- 55:55Speaker 2: well rounded tight end to play next to that guy?
- 55:57Speaker 2: Whereas if you draft again delp Claire or Roush, like
- 56:02Speaker 2: that guy's eventually stepping in for Hunter Henry and then
- 56:04Speaker 2: maybe next year you go find the pure receiver tight
- 56:07Speaker 2: end too, You go find your Mike is Sicki or whoever.
- 56:10Speaker 2: So you know they're better suited for it this year. Sure,
- 56:15Speaker 2: it makes it a little easier to handle one of
- 56:17Speaker 2: those picks, I think, but I still want them to
- 56:18Speaker 2: take a more long term approach at this position, and
- 56:21Speaker 2: to me, that includes a blocking element.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Okay, so I've watched a handful of these guys, so
- 56:26Speaker 1: you have you know Stowers right, Yeah, Trigg, Eli, Raridon,
- 56:30Speaker 1: I'd probably throw in this receiving tight end.
- 56:32Speaker 3: He's bigger.
- 56:33Speaker 1: I think he can block a little bit. No, No,
- 56:35Speaker 1: he's he's too he's too tall. Jack injuries injuries from Tenris. Yeah,
- 56:41Speaker 1: you know, I think you watch Cozy a lot of
- 56:43Speaker 1: people like, Yeah, I wasn't as high on him as
- 56:46Speaker 1: some others, you know, but Rared and Injuries are two
- 56:48Speaker 1: guys I think that have like maybe frames that they
- 56:50Speaker 1: could fill out, Like they're not Stowers and Trig Stowers
- 56:53Speaker 1: and trigger slot receiver.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Did you watch one more? Did you watch right?
- 56:59Speaker 1: No? Not yet. But the one guy that I would
- 57:02Speaker 1: say stood out to me out of this group, and
- 57:04Speaker 1: I know we're both Sam Rousch people, Dalen Bentley from Utah,
- 57:08Speaker 1: I think, is another guy that has that more well
- 57:11Speaker 1: rounded thing going on. He's two fifty plus, but he
- 57:13Speaker 1: can move, He's athletic, catch the ball well. I really
- 57:17Speaker 1: liked what I saw out of him. I thought that
- 57:19Speaker 1: that was a good, perfect blend of like sort of
- 57:22Speaker 1: size six four, two fifty good athlete, gets up the
- 57:26Speaker 1: field well, contract the ball over his shoulder, up the seam.
- 57:31Speaker 1: I really liked what I saw out of him. Maybe
- 57:34Speaker 1: someone like him or Rausch, I think they're both kind
- 57:36Speaker 1: of similar type of players. Roush is a little bit bigger,
- 57:39Speaker 1: but both those types of guys to me, are a
- 57:43Speaker 1: little bit more of the well rounded type. But I
- 57:45Speaker 1: am cautiously coming around to maybe getting a little bit
- 57:50Speaker 1: more receiving pure receiving upside.
- 57:53Speaker 2: I think it helps you in twenty six. Yeah, it
- 57:56Speaker 2: definitely helps you more in twenty six now than it
- 57:57Speaker 2: would have before. It's just maybe no again, we're still
- 58:01Speaker 2: gonna come back next year, saying they need to find
- 58:03Speaker 2: their like number one tight end.
- 58:04Speaker 3: Yeah, where are you with Max Claire?
- 58:06Speaker 1: Because I feel like I see people that are super
- 58:09Speaker 1: high on Max Claire out of Ohio State, like surefire
- 58:13Speaker 1: second round pick type, yeah, you know player, and then
- 58:16Speaker 1: I think that there's some people that are on a
- 58:18Speaker 1: little bit lower on him.
- 58:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm probably not as high as most people. I
- 58:25Speaker 2: think he's projected to be like a late second early
- 58:27Speaker 2: third round pick. That's probably about right. I don't see,
- 58:30Speaker 2: and you know, the the boards changing post combat, I
- 58:33Speaker 2: didn't see the gap so wide between him and like
- 58:37Speaker 2: Rausch and Delp that I was like, well, if I
- 58:38Speaker 2: can get him at yeah, sixty three, because you have
- 58:41Speaker 2: to take him at sixty th right, or raushit ninety
- 58:44Speaker 2: or Delp at ninety six or Raushit one twenty five. Like,
- 58:47Speaker 2: you know, I don't think the GAP's that big now
- 58:48Speaker 2: that those guys are shooting up maybe you know, shooting
- 58:50Speaker 2: up the board maybe becomes more of a conversation, but
- 58:53Speaker 2: I still would rather I think he's a good player.
- 58:57Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 58:57Speaker 2: I'd still rather take Rauscher Delp a little bit later.
- 59:00Speaker 2: I think you're gonna end up in about the same place.
- 59:01Speaker 3: I think that's the thing with this tight end class
- 59:03Speaker 3: that it's been.
- 59:04Speaker 2: There's so much depth. I really don't need You don't
- 59:07Speaker 2: need to rush to take a tight end.
- 59:08Speaker 1: Right, and there's certain guys that you're gonna have to
- 59:10Speaker 1: take it sixty three. I don't even know if Stower
- 59:12Speaker 1: is gonna make it to sixty three, but let's just
- 59:14Speaker 1: say he does. You know he's there at sixty three.
- 59:17Speaker 1: Max Claire, I think you would have to take it
- 59:19Speaker 1: sixty three. Trigg and Jolly, maybe you could get it
- 59:22Speaker 1: at the end of the third round. Maybe you know,
- 59:24Speaker 1: Trigg is really limited in terms of his size. The
- 59:27Speaker 1: cool thing with Trigg is just like he's got that
- 59:28Speaker 1: catch radius. Yeah, so that he's a great athlete. May
- 59:32Speaker 1: he makes a lot of sense. Specifically, I wasn't a
- 59:35Speaker 1: huge fan of Jolly.
- 59:36Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie. I thought he was stiff.
- 59:37Speaker 1: He's a lower centered center of gravity guy. I think
- 59:40Speaker 1: he's only like sixty two. He's a little bit stiff
- 59:43Speaker 1: in his movement. It's like a good linear athlete, like
- 59:45Speaker 1: I think he can run seams and things like that,
- 59:47Speaker 1: but I didn't really see a whole lot of change
- 59:49Speaker 1: of direction with him.
- 59:51Speaker 3: As a player.
- 59:52Speaker 1: So then you get kind of into the delps in
- 59:54Speaker 1: the in the injuries, and the in the raridans and
- 59:58Speaker 1: the roushes, you know that that sort of tear. I
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: think that the tight end sweet spot for them is
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the fourth round. I really do. I think the top
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: their first fourth round pick, one of these guys that
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: we're talking about right now is still gonna be there.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Uh and maybe even two of them in the fourth round.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: It just feels like, you know, like you said, the
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: guys in the top one hundred versus the guys that
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: are gonna go there. I just don't think there's a.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: Even things start flying off the board like it ninety six.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I could be sold on the right guys, So sure,
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Jolie to me is interesting, you said that like little
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: John new smithish.
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I could see that.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I just you know, I don't really uh, I
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: get concerned about guys that are stiff that at pretty
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: much every position like I I maybe it's like Johnny
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Nikhil Harry PTSD where it's just like these guys that
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: are kind of more clunky, rigid type of movers like
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Jolie I think can run the scene and get up
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: to a good speed doing that, but if you ask
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: him to actually make a cut those guys in this offense,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: it's not a great history. It's a concern. Yeah, all right,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: let's take a quick break and when we come back,

- 1:03:34Speaker 1: your calls in here quickly.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: A little bit of Patriots breaking news, okay, I said
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: the studio in the break Cortner, Ryan Fatler. They I'm
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: just bring up because we just talked about him. Is
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: a Key Wheatley Top thirty visit.
- 1:03:45Speaker 10: I like it.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: So there's a safety for you. So we just talked
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: about him a little bit. I think that he's a
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: pure coverage player, Like he's definitely a good athlete. Fluid
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: can play a sideline to sideline, good range over the
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: top of the defense. I wouldn't necessarily say that he's
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: a big time, you know, box player, not a big
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: time physical guy. But I think what we saw last
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: year Alex with the way that they are moving at safety,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: we mentioned you know, Pepper's and Dugger again, Like, I
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: don't think that I'm not saying that they want guys
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: that can't hit, like, that's not the right way to
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: put it, but they certainly want guys that can cover
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: and cover a lot of grass and cover a lot
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: of space before they start worrying about what that player
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: is going to do up at the line of scrimmage.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: And I think that's sort of how they feel about it.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: And I mentioned to you just now off the air,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I wonder if some of that's a little bit just
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: like Mike Raable as a outside linebacker in his career,
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: being like, let's let the two hundred and fifty plus
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: pound guys worry about stopping the run and let's have
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: the safeties, you know, protect against the past. So they
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: want their safeties to be pass game players, like they
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: want their safeties to be cover guys first. And I
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: think that we leave from Penn State definitely fits that
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: mold like he's that type of dude for sure. So
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: there you go in the building him and Adam Rain.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: Should we take these calls because these guys have been
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: waiting for a while, and then we'll finish up the
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: roster reseat here, Patty's an aguan.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: What's up Patty?
- 1:05:09Speaker 11: Hey, good afternoon guys. First off, Evan, I just want
- 1:05:12Speaker 11: to say I loved your take yesterday. I'll see you
- 1:05:15Speaker 11: about the Patriots and not boxing themselves into a corner
- 1:05:18Speaker 11: with a J. Brown, you know, because they have to
- 1:05:22Speaker 11: it made. It would just make sense for them to
- 1:05:24Speaker 11: take a receiver in the draft. That way, they they
- 1:05:27Speaker 11: don't lose a little bit of leverage there. They need
- 1:05:30Speaker 11: upgrade their receiver anyway, And I did want to talk
- 1:05:33Speaker 11: up about two receivers. One of them is Antonio Brown
- 1:05:36Speaker 11: and Alex Dammit, you kind of stole my take. I
- 1:05:40Speaker 11: got a feeling, and I had this feeling for the
- 1:05:42Speaker 11: last couple of weeks. I just I haven't really like
- 1:05:44Speaker 11: called or talked about it because I think there's been
- 1:05:47Speaker 11: a lot of fatigued regarding the player. But I think
- 1:05:50Speaker 11: if we get into the first week of June, and
- 1:05:51Speaker 11: there's like no deal in place. I could see this
- 1:05:54Speaker 11: thing getting really ugly, and I could see, like you know,
- 1:05:57Speaker 11: I could see Brabele not wanting to move up his
- 1:06:00Speaker 11: spot of giving up a first round pick, and like
- 1:06:03Speaker 11: him and Howie Roseman getting into a big piston contest,
- 1:06:07Speaker 11: and eventually AJ Brown is just gonna shoot his way
- 1:06:10Speaker 11: out of town. That's the opinion I have. I could
- 1:06:13Speaker 11: just see it getting to that point. That X wide
- 1:06:16Speaker 11: receiver I want to bring up is Top Douglas. Now,
- 1:06:20Speaker 11: let's rewind till last summer. I went to two practices,
- 1:06:24Speaker 11: the first Saturday practice and the joint practice with the
- 1:06:27Speaker 11: Washington Commanders. I had the pleasure of meeting both of you,
- 1:06:30Speaker 11: respectively on each one of those practices. But I'll say,
- 1:06:35Speaker 11: and I think coming out of just the training camp
- 1:06:38Speaker 11: practices in general, the Mario Douglas was the best player
- 1:06:42Speaker 11: on the field on those two practices that I witnessed.
- 1:06:45Speaker 11: I didn't get a chance to really watch the defense
- 1:06:48Speaker 11: on the joint practice, but he was the best player.
- 1:06:50Speaker 11: And it just hasn't translated into production on the field.
- 1:06:54Speaker 11: And we're going into what you're four with him. I
- 1:06:57Speaker 11: think it's time that we make an upgrade. And I
- 1:07:00Speaker 11: hate to say that because I do like I do
- 1:07:02Speaker 11: like the player, I like the skill set, but and
- 1:07:05Speaker 11: I don't think it has a problem. I don't think
- 1:07:07Speaker 11: it has anything to do with his height because May's
- 1:07:10Speaker 11: favorite receiver at North Carolina was Josh Downs and I'm
- 1:07:13Speaker 11: going to keep pounding the table for this guy. But
- 1:07:16Speaker 11: if if we're going to get a just a completely
- 1:07:18Speaker 11: slat centric receiver, I love Skylar Bell in that position.
- 1:07:21Speaker 11: He does that position versatility, but he's great at all
- 1:07:25Speaker 11: three levels too. I just wanted to get your guys
- 1:07:27Speaker 11: take on that, and I'll take it out there.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: And thinks thanks for the call of Patty.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: I think the biggest thing with Pop to me is
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: is between the years.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Like it's route running, it's feel for zone, it's knowing
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: what you know, where the leverage read is, and understanding
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: all the options that are involved in playing the thought
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: role in this offense. I don't think that Pop Douglas's
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: problem is physical by any means, whether it's height or
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: it's separation ability. In fact, he's probably the best pure
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: separator they have on the team, just in terms of
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: the metrics and all that kind of stuff. But The
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: problem with him is is when when to sit in
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: the zone, Where to sit in the zone, when to
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: break in, when to break out, you know, reacting quickly
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: to those types of things too, and not you know,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: having the luxury of time in a league like the
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: NFL where things happened so quickly. If he can develop
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: in that area of his game, I think he made
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: some strides in that area last year, just not enough.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: You know that that role in a Josh McDaniel's offense
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: is a thinking man's role.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I would bet on him growing rather than rushing
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: to replace. And like Patty brings up Skylar Bell, Right,
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: that's top one hundred pick. Right, Pop Douglas played twenty
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: six percent of the snaps last year. Yeah, so you're
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: talking about maybe not getting one of those tight ends.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: We were talking about not getting one of those safeties.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: I would say in theory tackle, I don't know what
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: tackle you're taking there, but like, right, do you really
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: want to use a top one hundred pick to move
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: off a guy who played to replace a guy who
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: played twenty six percent of the staffs last year. And
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: I'd rather count on just internal growth from Pop Douglas
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: and the next year, you know he's penning for agent
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: that's a little different. And then on top of that,
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: like if you're adding aj Brown to this mix, how
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: much does that role decrease on top of that? So
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: I just if you want to draft the not gadget guy,
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: but like if you want to draft somebody who's a
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: gadget slot right, if you want to draft one of
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: those guys later in the draft, by all means, I
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: don't think you know you're creating a hole that you're
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: planning on filling with the top one hundred pick.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Just keep the player.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: So I think the thing with Pop too is and
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: then we can move on.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: But when last year you're gonna do with when he
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: started to kind of emerge a little bit, it was
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: down the field.
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: Which is what I've been saying for years him down
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: the field.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: It was vertical routes down the field.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I remember I wrote something about him midway through the
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: season last year when he had like right after the
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: same schame, maybe when he had the big touchdown in
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: New Orleans of like his a dot and his average
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: target depth just skyrocketing. And now all of a sudden,
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: the production is coming with it because they're targeting him
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: deeper down the field. When you try to turn him
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: into you know, the Wes Welker Julian Edelman chain moving slot.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: It hasn't gone as well.
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: He caught the slant against Houston in the playoff game
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: and that was probably the brief moment of that sort
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: of flashing a little bit, but the first level production
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: has not been there when he has been a vertical
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: slot and they have targeted him further down the field.
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: That's what he was doing at Liberty in college. That
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: might just be what he's more comfortab.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Run him down the field. That's what I've been saying.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Zach is in New Hampshire. What's up Zach?
- 1:10:27Speaker 11: Thiy guys, Thanks to Tack my call, no problem.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: Just wanted to say, really glad you talked about Harold Perkins.
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: I called him to Unfiltered a couple weeks go and
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: asked about him. He's one of my favorite potential players
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: for the Patriots. And then my question is who are
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: some players in this draft that you guys would be
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: willing to trade up from thirty one for? Like how
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: far would you be willing to trade up and what
- 1:10:49Speaker 4: do you think it would cost? Thanks?
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Guys problem. Thanks for the call, Zach, good question. I
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: just wrote something about this today. So what the couple
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: names that come to mind in terms of trading up.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I was reading Daniel Jeremiah's mock draft yesterday, and I
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: know everybody's upset that he took a nose tackle for
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: the Patriots in thirty one. Do you see where he
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: had Sadiq going. No, he had him going twenty seven
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: to the San Francisco for a nine. I don't know
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: about that.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: So he had him sliding a little bit.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: The other name and we got an email from this
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I think is from Barton Poland that I've been seeing
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: a little bit of traction. I think we touched on
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: this a little bit last week was Jordan Tyson and
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: I bart said that maybe there was some concerns about medicals.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: I hadn't heard that. Maybe Dame, but Dame, but I.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Don't know if it's like a current medical issue. But
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: he's had a history.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: I mean, he's okay. All three of his seasons have
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: ended early because of injury. So Dame Brugler had him
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: going twenty four in his mock. Nate Tys had him
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: going twenty nine. So to me, That's where we're at, right,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: which is what if you can get like that big
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: time playmaker on offense to fall a little bit and
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: let's say it's Sadiq or it's Jordan Tyson or whoever
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: is there at starting at twenty twenty one, twenty two,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Like now I'm starting to think, like this guy, you
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: could you can make an immediate impact by drafts, so
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: real quick.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: Jordan Tyson as a freshman season ended, he tours a CL,
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: MCL and PCL.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Yeah that then Jorn Tyson did this. Yeah that's who
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: were talking about. Yeah, yeah, I didn't know that. I'm
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: not saying you're wrong.
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: I was in twenty twenty two. I'm reading from Lansus Luis.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: That obviously limited him in twenty twenty three. Yeah, twenty
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: four he I think he played the whole regular season,
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: either broke his collarbone in the playoff game or broke
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: it and couldn't play in the playoff game. But that
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: season end with the broken collarbone, and then he had
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: some like nagging hamstring issues last year that he missed
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: time on and off. So he's he has an injury history.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: Okay, now he's played through more possible than I like
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: he I think he played through some of that hamstring
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: stuff when he wasn't expected to.
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: But he's maybe more possible than I thought because of that,
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: like Thailand wise.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: But does that change your opinion of Gaggingham No, not.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: If I'm the Patriots, because I think with the Patriots,
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: they need to kind of go for ceiling and they
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: need to go for they need to take a home
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: run swing. So if you're getting a player of Jordan
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Tyson's caliber, just talent on the field, like this is
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: the type of guy I've watched probably field well, you know,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: I love fifteen to twenty receivers at this point in
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: this draft. He Makayle Lemon and Carnel Tate. I didn't
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: watch because I didn't think that there was any chance
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: that the Patriots are going to be able to draft him.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: So if you're telling me that they're going to get
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: one of those guys that I shaved off the top
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: because I didn't think that he would not work, to
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: watch him. But I don't know.
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: I mean, I've watched enough of them to know that
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: he's a stuff.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: The one other name I've kind of seen falling and
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: this is another guy that I really didn't. This is
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: kind of on my to do list this week. I
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: didn't do a ton of work on just because I
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: thought he was going to go too high. But now
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: he's falling. Is Cayden Proctor?
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you know play?
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: You know projects is a right tackle. Some people have
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: him moving inside a guard. I think he should be
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: able to play tackle. Would if he falls do you
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: draft him to kind of be the Morgan Moses replacement?
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Would you trade up? And I don't think he's fallowing
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: up thirty one?
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: But uh, you know how I feel about this. I
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: want their draft pick to play right away. And I
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: feel that way about Bake Miller. I feel that way
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: about Caden Proctor. I feel that way about Iana Chor
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: Like what if for some like the idea of red shirting,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: I just don't think they're there yet.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: So I know there was just because felderm has asked
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: me this yesterday, I don't know if there's any truth
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: to it. Like if they taken a J Brown, they
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: have to move on from Money Mike when win who
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: does doesn't have guarantee Money's contract?
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Would you draft Hims a right guard and with the
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: idea he's gonna move to tackle. Maybe I don't see
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: him as a guard though I don't either. He's too big, yeah,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: I think he's literally too tall, too big, Yeah, plays
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: too high to playguard. So on the topic of trades though, yes,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: so I wrote this yesterday. Do say some guy called in.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I'm just gonna throw this out.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Some guy called in to sports some Sunday kickoff and said,
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: I don't understand the value of draft.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Picks, and I don't know the history of draft picks
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: being traded.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: I do this every year in my notes. Some years
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: I publish it, some years I don't. I did it
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: this year. Here's the history, the last six years of trading,
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: the thirty first pick up and down. So you tell
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: me if you would make these trades. Uh, the one
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: last year thirty one down to thirty two and they
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: added one sixty four.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Meh, that's not Also not really what we're talking about,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: going down to thirty two. Yeah no, that was just
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: to Pollie Roseman was bored and probably to avoid somebody
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: coming up from behind.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: That This is also I included picks around it. Well,
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: that one's actually irrelevant. Here we go, Bill's I all
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: want to do trade ups. Let me find the trade
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: ups here, here we go twenty twenty two. The Chiefs
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: traded twenty nine, So you're gonna have to give up
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: a little more than this because it's twenty nine, not
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: thirty one. Twenty nine ninety four in one twenty one
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: to the Patriots for twenty one.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: That's the cold strange trade. That's the cold strange trade.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Would you want the Patriots to make a comparable move
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: twenty nine in Hatriots have thirty one, ninety six and
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: one twenty five, so you're probably gonna have to throw
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: something else in there.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: I would probably entertain that, or maybe.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: That was for twenty one. Maybe you move up to
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: twenty three or twenty four instead of twenty one. I
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: would probably entertain that trade. Okay, I don't, but I
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: think it all depends on who you're going up for. Right, Well,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: let's let's use Jordan Tyson as the example. You're obviously
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: moving up for a player, right right, I mean, you
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: know who is it? Let's call it? Let me let
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: me look at the Is it Jordan Tyson or is
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: it Cayden Procter? Because now I feel very differently.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: Let's say that, like for a player you want, that's
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: what it's gonna take. Let's say you're moving up, Tom.
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: I would entertain that trade idea.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: You know that you have to jump the bills of
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: twenty six Chicago's at twenty five. Let's say it's that
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: to get up to twenty five.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: Sure, Okay, that seems like a lot to get up
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: to twenty five. I thought you said twenty one.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Well, but that was twenty nine, ninety four and one
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: twenty one, not thirty one ninety six and one second five.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: I got you. It's I think the issue that I
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: I have with these trades if moving up, is more
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: so that I don't necessarily think that they need starters
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: at all these positions.
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: They need depth, But they need depth like.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Linebacker, safety, tight end. Uh, Like where's the even I
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: would say, offensive line, you know, when they're inside or
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: outside way, where's the depth coming from?
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: If they need to make I don't know if they
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: need to make eleven picks and you make a lot
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: of picks.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Okay, here's two more and they but they don't need
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: them all to be starters. They just need all but
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: you can get depth on the roster and contributing. Yeah. Uh.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: In twenty twenty eight, the Packers traded thirty and one
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: thirty six for twenty six, so.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: That I would be more call it into I just
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: don't know if you that why you would need to
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: do that, but I.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: Yeah, because in between let's say you're doing that, Let's
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: say you do it to move up to twenty five,
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: like the Bills are twenty six, are taking a receiver.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: Probably if you want to get Jordan Tice, you're going
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: to have to jump bills that I don't understand that's
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: why you would do it. They do so many things
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: that they just traded for. They just traded for DJ Moore,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: so maybe they don't feel like they need to do that.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: I've got one more for you. This was in twenty twenty.
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: Also in twenty twenty. This is does involve the thirty
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: first pick. Okay, the Niners traded thirty one, one seventeen
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: in one seventy six. The Patriots have picks all within
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: that range. To the Vikings for twenty five, that was
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: to move up and get Brandon Nayuk. So for the Patriots,
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: the equivalent of that would probably be thirty one, one,
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: twenty five and one seventy one.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: That I could probably handle. Okay, because now we're talking
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: like one seventy, we're outside the top one fifty one
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: twenty five is even fringy. Yeah, in terms of having
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: starter upside out of a pick like that realistically, So just.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: The reason I run through that exercise, yes, kind of
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: gives you an idea of what it's going to cost
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: to move up. It's going to be obviously thirty you've
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: moved up to thirty one. Depending on how high you
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: want to go, it's either gonna be ninety six or
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: one twenty five, and then probably one seventy one, depending
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: on how high you're trying to get. That's probably what
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: it's going to cost you to move up about five
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: or six spots. And if you want to talk about
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: the big trade up, they don't have the ammunition for
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: this right now. They would have to make a second trade.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: In twenty twenty two, the Lions moved up from thirty
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: two to twelve.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Oh god, they gave.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: Up thirty two, thirty four, and sixty six for twelve and.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: Forty six capital, So they'd have to give they would
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: have to find an extra second round pick someone, they'd
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: have to give up a twenty twenty seven pick, or they.
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: Would have to give up something to add a second
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: round pick this year.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: Oh like a like a trade, like a pre draft trade. Yeah,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Okay, but that's to get up to twelve. I don't
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: think they need to do that. Just for those who
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: are curious, that's that's the comp.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: Okay, Let's get back to the roster reset. We have
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: offensive line and wide receiver to go. I saved the
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: wide receiver for last Let's start with the interior offensive line.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: So the big four Jared Wilson, Elijah Vera Tucker, Mike Onwentno,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Ben Brown, and then Makai Butler, Andrew Rupich and Kidden
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: Wallets are still on the roster as well. The question
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: that I posed here, you obviously drafted top one hundred
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: player in Jared Wilson. Last year, you signed a expensive
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: guard in Elijah Aaron Tucker. You're paying an expensive guard
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: in mike On Wenthu. So I don't think that this
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: is moving around in terms of the top four. Ben
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Brown is the super sub exactly where he needs to be, right.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: The question with this group as we look to the
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: draft and beyond, are we prepping for life after mike
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: On Weno this offseason because I think before Elijah Veritucker signing,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: I was digging into guards. We were talking guards guards.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Now that we're out of this sort of free agency process,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: with a highly paid guard in Elijah Vertucker, it's a
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: lot of assets to sink into the interior offensive line
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: if you go sign Elijah Vera Tucker, draft Jared Wilson
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: last year, and then draft another top one hundred guard
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: this year. Even though I like the guard class, it's
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: a lot to look at to sink into one spot.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: I think there's guys that, you know, you talk about
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: a project player. I think there's guys can get on
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: day three. I wouldn't be I wouldn't mind a day
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: three guard.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: Sure, you know they want to add you know, like.
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: Armag Reed Adams is a guy I like on day
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: three who I think could step in for Mike and
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: Winnu the guard from Georgia. They have like a big,
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: nasty right guard, Michael Morris. I forget which they have
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: two guards in the same round more.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: I think he was the one that had the good
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: combine too. Okay, Yeah, that's what I'm thinking of that
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: you're you're talking, you know.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: If they want to type the Miami Tap, the Miami
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: Pipeline Anez Cooper. I really like he's kind of nasty.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: He's just gonna go later because he's old and he's
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: pretty maxed out. But I wouldn't hate bringing him.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: So like Michael Morris is the uh the right guard
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: is the big time right guard at Georgia. I say
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: a big time and he's not. He's probably gonna be
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: a Day three pick. But big guy, big dude. Yeah,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: big athlete, Uh, sort of player that if you're just
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: trying to go for you know, kind of a duplicate
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: of Mike on Winnu. Then he has similar similar type
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: of place six.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: Five, three thirty four. So yeah, like I think they
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: can get a guy like that on day three. To me,
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: the thing is, what are you doing about? You talk
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: about preparing for life for Mike and went who after Michael?
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: When who?
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: It's about preparing for life after Morgan Moses And that's.
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: The more immediate, that's the more to get there. But yeah,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I just want to no more thoughts on the interior.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: So I just wonder, you know, in that case, like
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: you know, obviously, like I said, it's a lot that
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: they have invested in, even though it's not a huge
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: contract like they did just sign Ben Brown too to
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: a super subcontract, so they they have guards under contract
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: that are are not so cheap.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: Here's the one thing about that I do have one
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: more thought on guard. I guess, Yeah, you have Elijah
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: Verah Talker, who has a significant injury history. You have
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: Jared Wilson, who's goldn't be playing center for the first
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: time in the NFL. Those are both kind of what
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: if positions. Ben Brown is the backup to both, so
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: it's not unrealistic to think there's gonna be a scene.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: And I think Jared Wilson will be find at center,
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: but Ben Brown's probably gonna start some games this year, like.
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: Are but probably Like I think there's a good chance
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: he does.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: But I don't I would. I find it hard to
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: believe that Jared Wilson is going to be so bad
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: at center that they're gonna have to bench Jared Wilson
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: strictly because of perform.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: I guess my point is, I wouldn't hate if they
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: carried a little extra guard depth than usual. If Ben
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: Brown's gonna have to back up both spots, it's just
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: a numbers game. Yeah, If Ben's Brown. If Ben Brown
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: is gonna have to back up both spots, if you
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: carry extra guard depth and that doubles as like a
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: right guard of the future, that's a good use of
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: a roster spot to me, even if it's one more
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: guard than usual.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: I just wonder if maybe as we get into the tackles,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: is there a guy that kind of has flex so
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: maybe it's a guard tack You could do that with
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: a guard tackle to Yeah, So that that way there,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: you're kind of developing him at two positions in whichever
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: one sticks sticks. But looking at the tackles right now,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: they only have five tackles under contract on the roster,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: and I'm taught. You know, obviously some of these guys
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: like On Winnu and Vara Tucker have a little bit
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: of flexibility, but I'm not or sure I'm talking I
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: count Kitten Wallace as a guard, but he's another one
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: of those guys. No, I think you're correct. I'm just
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: saying Will Campbell, Morgan Moses, Marcus Bryant, Gutierres and Lawrence Metz,
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: the who they added late in the season last year
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: is an absolute giant, one of the biggest human beings
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: I've ever seen. I don't know if he can play football,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: but he's absolutely huge. So obviously the big question here
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: with tackle is how high is too high to draft
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Morgan Moses' successor.
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: I still think they could do it at thirty one
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: if the right guy's there.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: That's part one of the questions. Yeah. Part two of
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: the question is where are we at with Marcus Bryant,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: because I think that he's another one of these guys
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: that I've gotten a few questions about. I'm sure you've
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: gotten a few questions about. I think his ceiling is
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: probably swing tackle. I don't think his ceiling is starter,
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: but there's nothing wrong with having a really solid you know,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: can he be you know, Lee Adrian Waddle? Can he
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: be Cam Fleming? Can he be one of these swing
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: tackles that starts in the pin.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: That wo'd be huge because right now they don't have
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: a backup left tackle. Yes, And we'll see what happens with.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: And he played left in college with a Membo on
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: the right right.
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: We'll see what happens with their Munford. You know, maybe
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: they resign him. I know. Mike Grease reported over the
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: weekend that he had off season surgery, so that's kind
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: of delaying his process. But if he can be the back,
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: because they need a left tackle too, and that shouldn't
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: be ignored. But for me, if the right guy's there
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: at thirty one, and I think the right guys probably
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: Blake Miller and Caden Proctor, I'm not there with Iana Shark.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: He's raw.
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: But I think if they trade, if they trade Backshore,
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: I'm not there with him. I'm not there with him
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: at thirty one.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: That's fair.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: But you know, if Blake Miller Cayden Proctor's there, I
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: don't know.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: I like, I get it.
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: Evan, I'm with you. The idea that on paper, your
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: your top pick is red shirting. Now it helps that
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: it lines up like there are other really big needs edge,
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: tight end, safety. It's a deep draft at those positions,
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: so you can get the guys you need to get,
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: I think without using the thirty first pick on him, certainly,
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: and you're not gonna get as good of a player.
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: But like man to be able to sit here and say,
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: left tackle's good, right tackles good, they're young, they're under contract.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: We just don't have to think about that position for
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: a few years. Oh Man, that that's just such a
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: great place to be just the allure of that.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: Okay, but it just hard because you know that, I mean,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: I don't love this process. The issue that I have
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: with this line of thinking is that this is Matt
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: Like to Nate's Solder.
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: That's what this is.
- 1:26:21Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: The Patriots when they went from Matt Light to Nate's
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: Solder were the prime Dynasty Rady era Patriots, Like we're
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: talking twenty ten, twenty eleven, where they're just like in
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: the super Bowl every other year, and I know, the
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Patriots just we're in the super Bowl. So it's like
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: a little bit contradictory to what just happened. But at
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: the same time, just the way they've moved this off season,
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: the way that we all deep down kind of feel
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: about the team, I think we recognize that there's still
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: one really good draft and off season away from being
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: a true super Bowl team, not a team that played
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl. And so if you then go
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: ahead and yes, the insurance on the off and the
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: line would be a thing of beauty they'd have, they'd
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: finally feel like, for the first time, maybe in our
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: entire team, you're covering the team that they had tackle depth,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: which is not.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: Something that we think.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: I think I know they still wouldn't have depth. They
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: STI would have a backup, but they'd have two legit starters.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Well, Morgan Moses is here for another year, going to
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: be the third tackle. If they drafted a guy like
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Blake Miller, I think I can confidently say, if Will
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: Campbell and Blake Miller you're starting tackles in twenty seven,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: that will be the first time in my entire time
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: coming the team where we're not talking about tackles.
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: So that that there's something to be said for that,
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: no doubt.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: There's also the fact and look, Morgan Moses was a
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: freaking iron man last year and I don't think it
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: hasn't really been throughout his entire I don't mean this
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: as any disrespect, but he's thirty five.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and then they're very aware of that they've been.
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: Having that insurance. Sooner rather than later isn't the worst
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: thing either. It's also just the rest of this draft. Yeah, Like,
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: I don't know how you feel about Caleb Tiernan.
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: I don't know if you watched him. Yeah, he's a
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: he's a guard. Okay to me, he's a guard that
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: answers out. He's way too some people think he's a guard.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: He's just asking so Will Campbell's thirty two and five
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: as Yeah, Caleb Tearnan is closer to thirty two flat
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: is he?
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: I thought he came in at thirty three. I'm thinking
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: of somebody else then.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but I like he is, uh so, okay, you
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: know who? He reminds me of Skarnsky. He reminds me
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: a lot of scars and.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: A little helmet scouting the fair.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: I was thinking of O'Brian Parker came in short too,
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: But this proves my point, like, it's not unrealistic. They're
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: gonna neither backup right tackle to play this year if
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: you don't take them at thirty one or even.
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: A torn on a on a trade back. Yep, who's
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: the guy? Who are you?
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: It's tough because I'm just gonna give you the consensus
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: board real quick.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: Blake Miller's at thirty five. Ye I guess I mentioned
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: Kane bro Kane Brok's at twenty three.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: Caleb b Loowan moves at twenty five. He's a left tackle.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: Uh, Blake Mill's thirty five. He is at thirty seven.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Jennings Dunkers at fifty seven, so you're going twenty picks
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: down and that's a guard. Cayl Tiernan is at sixty
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: seven guard. That's it for the top one hundred. Now
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: you get Demetrius crown Over at one oh nine, raw,
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: Brian Parker at one eleven might actually be a center. Yeah,
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: Austin Barbert won thirteen, He's fine, but I don't know
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: about him. In year one, Isaiah World's coming off of
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: torn acl now ire at Markel Bell at won twenty five,
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: who's a project player.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: No love for Jude Bowery from Boston College project player.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: So I think that crown Over just kind of dug
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: into him the last couple of days. I think on Monday, Yeah,
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: this is a toolsy but extremely raw and needs like
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: at least the year right to sit.
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: Now, that's exactly what they're asking this player to do.
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: Well, but to be fair, and you talk about Morgan Mos'
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: age and maybe it's a little more than that.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: But he's he fits the suit of a right tackle
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: for the Patriots. This guy Crownover is thirty five inch arms.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: He's massive. So if you if you don't want to
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: do the arm lane thing again. With the tackle that
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: they draft. Then this guy checks all of those boxes.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: He looks the exact part of a Patriot Josh McDaniel's
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: right tackle. But he is technique and his footwork and
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: his fundamentals are all over them.
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: So you would be good with him behind Morgan Moses,
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: given Morgan Moses.
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: Eight, if he if they pick it, it's ninety six, right,
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: I'm so.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: I probably yeah, if they pick him in the third round, sure,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: because he's not going to play right.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: He might, yeah, but I guess it's not fair because
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: everybody might play right.
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: He is he is.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: You're so you're confident enough in Morgan Moses, then you're
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: getting that. You feel like you're getting the year for
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: crown Over. Yes, And if they if they draft a
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: guy like crown Over, if they have to come back
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: to the veteran free agent market just to add a
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: guy that's played the position in the league and can
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: start a game or two as a spot starter, then
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: so be that you're keeping a lot of tackles. Well,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: I'd keep five, right, I'd keep Campbell, Moses, crown Over, Bryant.
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: Probably I will make it and then maybe another.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: Five a lot of tackles.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: Well, you're gonna have eight guys active on game day
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: at least.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: All right, so then you have the three. Well, Ben
- 1:31:03Speaker 2: Brown's active, that's six, So.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: We have nine guys active.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: It's a little bit nine. Yeah, so then you and
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: then Marcus Briant could probably be a healthy scratch to
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: be honest, okay, or Crownovers whichever. Did you watch Markel Bell.
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: A little bit but not enough to like have a
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: great take on him. He's just huge, Like he's just like,
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: I mean.
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: Just because of the Trent Brown comp we have to
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: talk about him.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think crown Over to me is is
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: not it's not a totally it's right where they probably
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: should take one in the third round right now. Yeah,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: and it and it makes sense.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: Crown Over at ninety six or Bellow one twenty five.
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: I probably go crown Over.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: Okay. I'd also add with crown Over, he played he
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: started as a tight end, so he's late. He's late
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: to the position. So like, I think there's room to
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: grow there. I think there's some room. This really is
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: a soldier thing. Well, he's not going to be drafted,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I joke because Nates Solder started, Oh, yes, yeah, sure,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: you know this is like, I'll give you a better
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: example because it happened to Elson in the third round.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: The hope would be that this is like if Yodney
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: could just had worked out, right, Like this is basically
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: you're looking for that. You're still not quitting on Yodney. Huh.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: You know I liked Yodney and yelled defrohold you were
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: you were on? Cloud was right about Ye, you were right?
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: And no, you were right. He's still in the league, right,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: he's a really good center. Now I like yel defrohole too.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: They moved on from yell defrohole too quickly. He was
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: a good player, well, David Andrews, they were they were
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: doing okay, I'm just saying playing the guard, right, They
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: were't playing in that center. Yeah, that was drafted as
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: a guard.
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: They were okay in the interior at that point. All right, No,
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: he's a good player.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: So uh, let's go to quickly before we move on.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: Marcus Bryant stockwatch do you do? How much stock are
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: you buying? And Marcus Bryant, let's just say it seems
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: still in the team. I like to seem keep working
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: with h like, is he make the roster next year? Yeah,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: I should.
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: I don't think he's your answer behind Morgan Moses, but yeah,
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: like you said, good swing tackle potential.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: If I wish that he had won that muscle tight
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: end role, if he had won that would have been
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: like if if he was good enough to have won
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: that and beaten out there Munford for that is actually
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: by the end of the season, I'd feel.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: A lot done it in Vegas, I think that's probably.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: He definitely true, But I would just say with with
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: because I think that that's his seal, the seventh round pick.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: So I think his ceiling his swing tackle.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: If you had told me that by the end of
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: last year he was playing that muscle tight end role,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: I'd be really but it's into it. Having a good
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: swing tackle is important. You know how much Adrian Wattle.
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: But I'm saying, like, if you had won that that
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: tight end.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Role, and it would help him get the inside track
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: on that on swing tackle, like just not even projecting
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: him as a starter. All right, let's get the receivers.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: So right now they have eight wide receivers on the roster.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: They have Romeo Dobbs, Kisehan, Boody, Matt Collins, Pop Douglas,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: Kyle Williams FT and Chisholm, Jeremiah Webb, John Giles. So
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Webb and Giles obviously spent the season on the practice
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: squad last year. Good practice squad players, especially Giles, you know,
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: with his versatility and his size. So the questions that
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: I have here in terms of facilitation, I wanted us
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: to sort through this wide receiver cluster here at the
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: back end of the first round because he texted me
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: about this yesterday and you were surprised by some of
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: my my answers to this h these questions. So I
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: wrote down these four players in this back end of
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: the first round cluster. Mister doesn't run the forty, Denzel Boston,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: Casey Concepcion, Omar Cooper Junior, and my guy Chris Brazil.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: So how let's rank those four? Like, how are you
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: drafting those four as the New England Patriots as the page.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: It's tough because Casey is my favorite of the group,
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: but he's just too redundant to Dobbs. Yeah, like I
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: maybe even a little bit to Kyle, will you unless
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: they're gonna get really small, do some double slot stuff.
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: I just don't see how he plays. Yeah, you know significantly,
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: there's a role that it's not what you're taking at
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: the top of the draft. I'd say the same a
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: bottle Omar Cooper, Like, they're kind of similar players to me.
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: They win differently, but they win differently from the same role.
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: I like both.
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: I really like Concepcion. I'm seeing right here, he's the consensus.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: You know, MA draft pick to the Dolphins right now.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: That's gonna kill me because that's a great fit. Makes sense,
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: you know, when it comes down to Boston and Brasel,
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: I don't love that Boston didn't run the forty in
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: his prote It's you don't run out the combine. Find
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: nobody runs in the combine. Everybody runs their prote it's
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: a safe environment.
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: So that worries me a little bit.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: But I still think that his fifty to fifty ball ability.
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: He is really quick, Like that's the thing. He didn't
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: run the forty. He did the agility drills and did well,
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: so he has some quickness, which suggests that he can
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: grow as a route runner.
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: I maybe i'm helmet scouting.
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: I'm still a little too scared of the whole outside
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: Tennessee speed receiver thing, I'd probably go Boston.
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: Okay, so here's my ranking. I'm gonna I'm gonna rank
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: them from four to one.
- 1:35:39Speaker 2: So I guess ranking ranking four to one, rank Cooper, Conception,
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: brasl Boston. But that's fit, that's very heavily fit induce,
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: so I had to go best players one to four.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: Conception own, Boston, Cooper, and Brassel are kind of the
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: same to me. So there it's hard to rank them
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: exactly because Conceptsio and Cooper are one type of player
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: and Boston and Brasel or another type of player. But
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: I would personally have this list probably four conceptsi owed three, Cooper, two, Boston,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: one Brasel, and some of this.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: So brass and Boston are both on the board of
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: thirty one, you're taking Brasel, I'm taking brazl. If if
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: Mike Rabile comes pulls you out of this off the show,
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: says coming to the draft room, we need you to
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: break the tie. Yeah, you're telling him Chris Brassel.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: I'm telling him Chris Brasel. And the reason why I'm
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: telling him Chris Brasel is because Denzel Boston's profile as
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: a separator absolutely terrifies me, and I look at the
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: way he wins. I look at uh the metrics that
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: you know, I do trust and especially I would say,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: one of the metrics that really stands out to me,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: that you know, other than the separation stuff, Yeah, that
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: concerns me is his yards per rout run against his
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: own coverage. Yeah, that's the big one. Right low on
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: that too. If you're gonna be this type of receiver,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: you're supposed to be elite against zone coverage, right like
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: big target, find the soft spot, move the chains like
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: Ted McMillan was a great zone coverage beating receiver. Denzel
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: Boston has a little bit too much like Kean Coleman shades. Okay, right,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: I just I worry about it.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: You liked Boston at the beginning of the process, So
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: I'm just because I was surprised because I thought you
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: would say all these things are saying now.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: I liked him at the beginning of the process because
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: I can see how Drake may would like throwing to him.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Shouldn't that be the most important part? Well, but you
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: have to get open, like at some point if you're
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: a player like that, do you I think that there's
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: a post up role in an offense. I don't know
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: if post up roles are high volume roles in this league. Like,
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: name the guy out of the draft and I'm putting
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: you on the spot, But name the guy out of
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: the draft in the last handful of years that's played,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: like Denzel Boston that has panned out, Drake London. I
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: think Drake London's got a lot more speed. Do you
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: have a lot more speed or is he just I
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: don't know about more speed. Him and Ted are much
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: better athletes than than Denzel Boston. Donsday's better route runner, I.
- 1:38:09Speaker 3: Guess closer, but I think Dunda is a little bit
- 1:38:12Speaker 3: more fluid.
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: Is better player.
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just looking at the past draft history. Here,
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: can I count the four weeks that Quentin Johnson went
- 1:38:23Speaker 2: off this year?
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: Is panting out? No, I know I'm kidding, and like
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: the hands are total polar opposite.
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: I know I'm gonna stick with Drake London. Final answer,
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: and then Ted Ted. Last year he hit a thousand
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: yards a rookie, But I.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: Feel like Ted's a much better, much more explosive player,
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: especially with the ball in his hands.
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: He is better after the catch. But that's right, go
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: to like I would agree with you more so.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: You're you're you're I think, sorry to cut you off,
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: but you're you're saying that the apex are the ceiling
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: of the of the archetype of Denzel Boston is in that,
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: Drake London, T Higgins, Te mcte mill and I think
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: that that's probably the ceiling of that. And then my
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: floors Keon Coleman, I acknowledge that. And then the Hall
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: of Fame is like Pooka, right, like like that's like, well, no,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame is like is Pookah Pooka? Pukah's
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: ability at the catch point is is yeah, but he
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: gets open plus almost go like Julio Jones. I was
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: gonna say, Julio Jones. Now this is not like Julio Jones.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: But he's way more experient late career. What he's quicker
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: than people giving. I think there is untapped potential later
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: on his feet. I think there is untapped potential as
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: a route runner. Okay, he's he's raw, like, it's not
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: a strength of his right now. That's not even to
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: say like, okay, he can do it, but it'll get better.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: It's not a strength of his right now. I think
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: he is the physical ability to develop. Like because you're
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: you're you're talking about you're going back in your mind
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: to like Nikhil Harry or Keon Coleman. Yeah.
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: I never looked at Keon Coleman and thought he has
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: rumor grows a rout runner. Denzel Boss better than Denzel
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: Boston is more fluid.
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: They have to coach that out of them. And if
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: you want to bring up their track record with developing
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: wide receivers, then that's a fair point.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: Like maybe you don't count on them to do that.
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: I think he has more potential as a route runner
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: than something. So let's look at let's look.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: At some of the guys in that like that have failed.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: Like I said that, his I'll give you one of
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: his best quality is his ability to post up on
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: corners and win the ball at the catchpoint. Yeah, that's
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: a skill, There's no doubt about it, and that he's
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: very very good at. If you had better metrics against
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: zone coverage, and it was like he can find soft
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: spots over the middle of the field and underneath zones
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: and he can win down the field with you know,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: with the ball skills, I'd say Okay, that's it's fair.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: That's and I don't and I don't love type player.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: It's fair, and I don't love that he didn't run
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: the forty. I've told you that.
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: He's but I think we can all agree that he's
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: a four to six guy if he didn't.
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: So let's let's play this game with Chris Brazil. Yeah, like,
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: what are the warts there?
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: I would say that Chris Brasl's because.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: We could, I could easily throw back at you. Show
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: me how that guy has popped.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: Chris Brasel's biggest warts are play strength, and I would
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: say a little bit of inconsistency at the catch port.
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Who is the guy from that mold?
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: And I'm gonna say specifically because it's a part of it.
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: I know I'm limiting you Christian Watson in Green Bay
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: that mold in that offense, because that offense helps.
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: There's only one guy that's in that mold, in that offense,
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: and he's too good to use as a comparison. Who
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: it's in the Hall of Fame. Tennessee has not run
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: that offense long enough. The one guy that I see
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: I'm talking about the Tennessee. Tennessee's offense yeah, I'm talking
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: about the Patriots.
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: No, I'm talking about the guy that gets to line
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: up basically one foot on the sideline, so the corner
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: like has to play him a certain way and has
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: the benefits of playing in that Tennessee offense and has
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: panned out.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: But he's not a linear athlete. That's what makes me
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: excited about Brazl is that he can sink his hips.
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: And he have the same answer. The guy with this
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: profile usually doesn't work out. But this guy changes direction
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: better than those guys have. We both have the same answer.
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: Are different player guys sixty three, you're just betting on speed,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: on betting on in runs of store three and the
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: other guy won't even run the forty But he.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: Has much better play strength and is better at the catchpoint,
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: but he's.
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Terrified to run in forty yards in a straight line,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: which at that position is seven inchverticle, right, I mean
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: like his other stuff. The three cone was really good.
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: It was six six point eight five at ten.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: So do you want to bet on raws speed or
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: rows strength?
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: You know my answer to that? I know because I
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: can I can hit. I can tell Chris Brazil when
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: he gets here on April twenty fifth or whatever, the
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: day after the first round, Hey, buddy, hit the weight room.
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: Well he's gonna Bryton Shorts on April twenty five. You're
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: gonna be all excited camp.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: You know, you know rookie Minikav He's gonna run a
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: nine round. I'm gonna be like the hell yeah, you know,
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: and you know exactly who we will bring up. I
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: know that's fair. You can hit the weight room. You
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: can hit the weight room, you can't hit the speed.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: That's fair, That is fair. That would be the one
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: thing with Brasel that he needs to work on. But
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: the route releases obviously, the straight line speed in the
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: I would say, in particular, the long striding speed with
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: him is like whoa right, Like when he gets to
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: open up his strides down the field and pull away
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: from guys is really really good. And I just I
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: think the one thing with him that I can't get
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: out of my head is that Georgia game, Like he
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: just that is that Georgia game is like he went
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: out there and mossed guys.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: I will say on the Denzel Boston's that he did
- 1:43:29Speaker 2: not play well against the better opponents.
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: And Georgia is as good as it gets in terms
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: of like level.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Of top because you really like Dalen Everett.
- 1:43:35Speaker 3: I like he put Dyalen Everett in a in a
- 1:43:38Speaker 3: hurt locker.
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: Well, maybe he'll get another chance. I've been training game,
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: all right, I'm gonna up the question. I'm gonna up
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: the anty of the question you I asked you before
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel drags you down to the draft room.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: We need you to break the die. Yeah, the Chads Brassele.
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Chad's loving that. Mike Rabel's doing.
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: It's Brassel, he never would but it's Brassler Boston thirty one,
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: and we need you one more. Elliot Wolf drags you
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: down there.
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: We know we can get Brassle thirty one, but the
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: who's the twenty four again? The Cleveland Browns. Yeah, want
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: us to give them thirty one, ninety six and one
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: twenty five for twenty four and we're gonna take Jordan Tyson.
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: We can do that, or we can stick at thirty
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: one and take Chris Brasel.
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: What are you telling them to do? Give me the
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: trade again? There's a lot of math in my head
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: that you're asking me to do. Thirty one.
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: Yeah, ninety six in one twenty five. Yeah, for twenty
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: five to them, we will say the Bears, you gotta
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: jump the Bills.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: Okay, I'm getting Jordan Tyson and you're.
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: Getting Jordan Tyson. Jordan Tyson's on the board.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: Jordan Tyson's a much better player, so I'm probably I
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: probably giving up those picks. I know, I really do
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: like Brazil. If the Patriots see the way I look
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: at Brasel though, just to make everybody feel comfortable with it, yeah,
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: is like, is there is Brasel a trade down candidate?
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: Like if they trade from Oh yeah, if they trade
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: from like thirty one. But I keep saying the same
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: thing because I just feel like it might happen. Ty
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: Simpson is like sitting there at the end of the
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: first around.
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: To the Lamar Jackson trade right from right from.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: One of these quarterback teams, Arizona, Cleveland, whoever wants to
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: come up and you know Jets, you know they want
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: to come up from.
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: Please help them, Please let the Jets give you the
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: top of the second round, first.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: Round to thirty one. You go from thirty one to
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: let's say you go from thirty one to thirty eight.
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: I don't know about looking at the draft order. I
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: don't know who's at thirty eight. I'm just using a
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: number thirty one to thirty eight. Thirty eight is the Texans,
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: so that's not doesn't make any sense. The Browns at
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: thirty nine, Sure, Browns at thirty nine. Just for the
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: argument's sake, right, most of these teams have quarterback. It's
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: the Jets at thirty three, the Cardinals at thirty four.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: The Cardinals at thirty four is the one that makes
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: the most sense, assuming assuming you know Vegas at thirty
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: they're gonna they're not, They're going to take me in
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: those of So right, Jets are thirty three, Cardinals at
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: thirty four, Chiefs at thirty nine, maybe Miami at forty three,
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: Jets at forty four. Okay, so if I if I
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: trade back here, yeah, and I get you guys that
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: are all worried about the Tennessee things, some picks and
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Chris Brazzle, I think we all feel we're all happy, right.
- 1:46:00Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: Sure, Okay, as long as they make a fair trade.
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: All right, So that's the ross.
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: But you didn't I don't think you have the question
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: brassl at thirty one or Tyson with that trade up.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: I probably go Tyson. Okay. I think it's more of
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: a sure thing.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: I don't hate because they have enough picks that they
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: can move back up again.
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: Like you take.
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: Okay, so you're you're losing one top one hundred, yeah,
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: but now you package one thirty one a couple of
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: those six and that probably maybe not back into the
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: top one hundred, but should get you back in the
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: top one ten.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: So I would do it.
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: I just uh, I you know that a guy that
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: runs like that at that size.
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: You know, we did know it when we did the
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: CLNS show last year and we wrapped. We do the
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: show after the draft, and the last thing I ask
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: everybody is who's your guy for next year? I think
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: my guys were Jordan, Tyson and cacc Yeah.
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: Casec's fun. The drops worried me a little bit.
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: I'm not as worried. I'd like them to take them,
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: but it doesn't make sense at this point, not gonna play.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: So okay, speaking of these lines, here's one. You know,
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: I'm sorry we didn't get to a ton of the emails,
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: and then we'll get these calls before the end of
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: the show here. But so we've been talking a little
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: bit mostly on on unfiltered about Kaishon Booty and like
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: his ceiling as a player. So this is from harsh
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: and Boston. He says Evan was ready to do taekwon
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: again year after year, but is so quick to diminish
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: Kaishan Boody, who's actually made plays with Drake may Harsha
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: disagrees with my take that Kaishon Booty has hit his ceiling.
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: How do you feel about that?
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I hit his ceiling.
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: I think he's probably close. I mean, I look, he's
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: a good player, He's a good NFL player. He's not
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: the like coverage dictating number one guy. They're still going
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: to try to find that guy.
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: So my take with Kaishan Boudi is that I've heard
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: a lot of opinions that, like, he's actually a ze
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: and she should play more on the So I just
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: think that and I get I can see the fact
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: that at least one of these coaching staffs was not
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: very good at your job. But when Bill O'Brien got
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: here in twenty three, they started developing him, developing him
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: as an outside receiver. Then they handed him off to
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: Alex Van Pelton. That staff and they continue to develop
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: him as an outside receiver. Then Mike Rabel and Josh
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: McDaniels got here, and they continue to develop him as
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: an outside receiver. Now the counter to that is is
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: that they haven't had good outside recess.
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: You said this last weekend. I thought of the counter
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: after the show. Were they doing that because they thought
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: he was better on the outside or because he was
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: the best option they had because they didn't really have
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: anybody who fair counter.
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: I would just say that three different coaching regimes have
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: said he's an outside receiver. When you look at inside receivers,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: you look at guys that are a little bit, you know, quicker,
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: good routes. I'm not necessarily talking about the jittery he's not.
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: I don't think he's a full time either. I think
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: he's you know, he's a z. I just think that
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: his best skill is his hands and winning the ball
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: at the catchpoint. And I don't know how that translates
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: to first let little quick hitting targets in the middle
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: of the field, right, So I I just I'm talking
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: about this offense, right and we got another question here.
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: But I think it's also when it's it's hard to
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: hit that high of a ceiling when you're a catchpoint
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: guy at five to eleven.
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: Yeah, so I think that that's sort of why I
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: feel like his ceiling is pretty close to cap now,
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: Like if he was six y three, it's another story.
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: It's where it is. My question with him has always
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: been this, where does the volume come from? For kashaon Booty?
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: I don't think he's volume player, right, Like, well, if.
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: He's not a volume player, then he's hit his ceiling.
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: I think he could do a little more than like
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: he could be more consistent. How many role but how
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: many one on one jump balls on the outside? Are
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: you going to throw one receiver right more? Now that
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: we know what Drake may is, But how many did
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: he throw him last year? Like you know that.
- 1:49:46Speaker 3: I feel like that's about as many as he.
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: Probably got, like a fifty to sixty target year guy. Yeah,
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: so that he had forty six last year.
- 1:49:53Speaker 3: He's not gonna he's not going to all of a
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: sudden be a thousand yard receiver with sixty targets.
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: That's just not gonna happen. Well, that's Alec Pierce. Well
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: he was an eighty something but close enough. Yeah. This
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: was from Christopher in Connecticut. He says, I hear everyone
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: talking about Dobbs coming in and replacing digs, but dogs
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: Dobbs only had a fourteen percent slot snap rate to
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: fifty one percent for digs. Yeah, so I think that
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: the conversation here is more about the type of formations
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: that these two teams were playing than it is about
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: inside versus outside. So with the Patriots, digs dig play
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: a lot primarily in the slot, but that's because they
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: primarily spread the field and they run a lot more
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: spread formation or just like kind of conventional offense formation,
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: whereas Green Bay is running all these condensed formations. They
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: actually logged over fifty percent of their snaps out of
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: condensed formations last year. So with those condensed formations, Romeo
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: Dobbs is like in tight to the formation inside the numbers,
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: so he basically has a two way go.
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: He's technically the outside receiver, but where he's individually lined
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: up on the field, regardless that everybody else is a
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: slot position.
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: So I could probably do this on next Gen and
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: it might be a fun exercise. Yeah, they have heat
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: maps on next Gen of like where they concentrate heat
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: on where the guys line up on the field. I
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: would venture to say that Romeo Dobbs's most concentrated part
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: of his heat map is probably very, very similar to
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: Stefan Diggs's, even though that that technically gets tracked as
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: an out wide snap and Diggs's snap might get tracked
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: as it's abou where everybody else is lining up. It's
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: not about where he's lining up. Yeah, exactly, do that?
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: Did that for next week? Well, I'll see if I can.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: If I can make it work. Mark is in Connecticut.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:51:36Speaker 7: Mark?
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. I've been a
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: little while. Hey, so just wanted to get a couple
- 1:51:43Speaker 6: of takes from you guys real quick. I've been the
- 1:51:46Speaker 6: biggest AJA Brown fanatic for a long time now, and
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: I'm actually maybe even thinking of pulling back on doing
- 1:51:53Speaker 6: this straight because you're going to have to probably give
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: up A one and Chris Brasel Evan. I love Chris Brasel.
- 1:51:59Speaker 6: I think they is an AJ Brown of the future.
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: So I'd rather have Chris Brazzle in because he's young,
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: You're going to have him on the contract for a while.
- 1:52:08Speaker 6: That's my way to go on that. But my other
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: question is is that we have four six round picks.
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: We have eleven picks overall. We don't need to pick
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: eleven players. So what can you get if you were
- 1:52:20Speaker 6: to package four sixes or even three of them. Can
- 1:52:22Speaker 6: you get like a you know, a three or a four?
- 1:52:26Speaker 6: You know, so you can move up the draft and
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: get a you know, another player, because we really badly
- 1:52:30Speaker 6: need a tight end, which you guys know that I've
- 1:52:31Speaker 6: been glamoring about for years now. Need a tight end,
- 1:52:34Speaker 6: need a tackle, and we need an edge rusher. So
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: I appreciate it, guys, and I'll listen to you guys
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: off air and see what you say.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Thanks. Mark. I think that those sixth round picks, that
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: they have any value would be like throwing them as
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: a breadcrumb at the end of a trade. So in
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: theory on the draft chart, the four sixes get you
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: to like the very end of the fourth round or
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: early fifth.
- 1:52:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: No, it's it's what you said value is. And they
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: have two fourths like the one. I keep going back
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: to A one, A four, and a six Yeah, gets
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: you up to like I think the early it gets
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: up to the mid twenties, right the two the four
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: in the six gets you into So that's going from
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: sixty three that's going to get you up to about
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: fifty and ninety five plus, and I'm using the top
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: fourth and one of the six that's going to get
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: you up into the seventies. That's how you use those picks.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: The coming up from sixty three, because with a two
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: to four and a six, I could be talked into
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: that because.
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: Maybe we can get the best of both worlds.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: For everybody, because everybody wants the right tackle right, and
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: then you could probably draft like Blake Miller at thirty
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: one and then maybe get back up to like close
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: to the top fifty ish and then still get like
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: an edge rusher or a wide receiver or something like
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: that that could be the more immediate, your one impact
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: kind of guy. So here's one for you're not getting
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: two first round picks, but you're kind of getting two
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: players that might contribute.
- 1:54:04Speaker 2: Like in twenty twenty three, the Bears traded sixty one
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: and one thirty six for fifty six. Yeah, so that
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: that kind of area. The Chiefs traded sixty three, one
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: twenty two, and two forty nine for fifty five and
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: one ninety four, So that gets you up about ten spots.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: I like trading up from ninety five. I think the
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: strength of the draft is like forty to seventy five. Yeah,
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: so I like the idea of moving up from ninety five.
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: That that's my sweet spot. I don't mind doing that
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: because I think that you might again, you might be
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: able to get the best of both worlds, where you
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: get that you know, long term answer at a place
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: like right tackle, but you also still draft a guy
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: that can come in.
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: And in twenty twenty three, the Panthers traded ninety three
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: and one thirty two for eighty, moving up thirteen spots.
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: And giving up one of those fourths. Yeah, I could
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: see that out. I'd love to do something like that.
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: All right, last call here, Henry is in DC. What's
- 1:54:59Speaker 3: up Henry?
- 1:55:00Speaker 10: Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call. I love that
- 1:55:04Speaker 10: breakdown of the receivers at thirty one, and I just
- 1:55:07Speaker 10: wanted to ask about the edge rusher of it all
- 1:55:10Speaker 10: because my view of it is there's a pretty good
- 1:55:13Speaker 10: track record not for the Pats, but in the NFL
- 1:55:16Speaker 10: of a second round receivers working out pretty well. But
- 1:55:19Speaker 10: I can only count a handful of Day two edge
- 1:55:22Speaker 10: rushers who are very useful. So my question is kind
- 1:55:25Speaker 10: of like, who is the lowest ranked edge rusher that
- 1:55:29Speaker 10: you'd probably take ahead of brasl or Casey C. R.
- 1:55:34Speaker 10: Bosston at thirty one, because if you don't get that
- 1:55:36Speaker 10: guy at thirty one, I don't see how you're getting
- 1:55:38Speaker 10: an impact ed rusher in this draft.
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: Okay, I understand you're thinking Henry, so basically just quickly
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: because we don't have a ton of time and we
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: can do this more next week. Receiver, Well, which receiver
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: who Er Brasil Mezidor Brasil, Brasil Parker, Brasel, Brasil Howel
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: or Brasil Howel Younger Brasil Brasluh if he falls Keldrick
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: Falker Brasel, Brasil. I don't like edge FULK and he
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: doesn't want him either, stiff me Robot. I might go
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: Mesador over the receiver. Maybe I could be talked to him,
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: but like that, that's the tier I was gonna bring up, right, Yeah,
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: Mezzadora Parker, Howell young feels like the edge dresser tier. Yeah,
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: maybe our Mason Thomas is in that group, but I
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: don't think so. I know you don't like him, so
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: I knew you'd take there a here, so I didn't
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: ask or like there's a now this is more top
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: fifty love. But there's a ton of love for Malachi
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: Lawrence right now.
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: I would move up from sixty two and get Malachi Lawrence.
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: He's a doc, dude can play, he can and he's
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: there kind of like him in this system. Oh boy,
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: And this is my other point to the caller.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: Sorry, real quick, now go ahead. I wouldn't worry about
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: getting an impact player on.
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: The edge in Day two and this draft, like this draft,
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: this position, this class, even it maybe not at ninety six,
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: but you move up from ninety six in the seventies,
- 1:56:55Speaker 2: which is why I like that trade. You know you're
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: not gonna get your pick, but like Sutton might still
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: be there, Acus might still be their height might still
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: be there, like you're And when I say might one
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: of them should be, it's just which one. Yeah, I'm
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: not worried if they don't take the edge at the top.
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: They need to come out with the top one hundred.
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: I'll even say top seventy five picket edge. If they
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: get an edge in the top seventy five, I feel
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: good about it.
- 1:57:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I was.
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: And we could talk about more of this next week
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: Because we're gonna do defense Rosser reset next week, I'm
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: sure we'll spend a lot of time on the edge rushers.
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: When I thought I was turning on Malachi Lawrence's tape,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: I thought I was turning on a raw combine guy
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: that was gonna have to be seasoned and coached. And
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: I saw a guy that already has a pretty good
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: feel for what he's doing. So the rub on Malachi
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: Lawrence is, well, the level of competition has to Those
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: tackles were all, yeah, brutal. It's not just the teams,
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: it's like the tackles in specific. Yeah, I mean it's
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: all bad. Like I watched him against Colorado and it
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: was like this is just not even. So that's that's
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: the one thing to keep. But I thought I was
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: gonna see like, oh yeah, like huge rascal ras rass
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: whatever could score athlete.
- 1:57:59Speaker 3: That is just kind of big dog and everybody.
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: He can play. Now, he's got hands, he's got pass
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: rush moves, he's got awesome.
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a good.
- 1:58:07Speaker 2: Player coach for the football, playmaker.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: All right, we'll talk about those guys next week when
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: we do the roster reset on defense. We'll keep you
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: up to date on the news and notes and all
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: that kind of stuff as well. Recency biases back and
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: we'll keep on doing that, so we'll keep chugging along
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: here with about four or five weeks to go to
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: the draft, right, I think like five weeks.
- 1:58:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: I'll be at BC on Monday for Boston Colleges Pro
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: Day I have. I think we might be joined by
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: some people here in this building, so that'll be cool.
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: Go see those guys. That's why I brought up Jude
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: Bower earlier. He'll be there at Boston College. And we'll
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: be back on Catch twenty two next Wednesday at noon.
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: Patriots unfieldered back tomorrow at noon as well. We'll see
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: you guys then. Thanks for watching.
