Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Welcome, Divine Listeners, to the Divine Dialogue Podcast, where we dig deeper into the trove of wisdom and guidance stories have to offer.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Have you ever watched a movie and felt moved?
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Felt called to make a change or reflect more deeply on your own life?
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: If so, this podcast has a lot to offer you.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: In our first special episode on the Divine Dialogue Podcast, I will actually be talking about a video game instead of a movie.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: So today's special episode is going to be honoring the North American release of the first Kingdom Hearts game, which came out on the PlayStation 2 on September 17th.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And I do remember being so excited to play this because, you know, it had some of my favorite Disney movies in it, and you got to confront the Heartless, and you know, you tried to rid the world of darkness, even committed to bringing my friend Riku back from the depths of being lost.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And I really wanted to talk about this because I think it pairs really well.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Not only in name, I got a kick out of the fact that we were doing Lion King and then Kingdom Hearts, which was fun, but there's essentially it's just gonna be the very beginning of the game that I'm going to discuss here just a little bit in the special episode because it is a cornerstone of my own spirituality.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And I did actually notice what I thought was really interesting was the posters in my room.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: So I mentioned this on previous episodes.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: If you're new here, please go check out my series on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as well as Balto.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: But in my room on one wall, I have a Balto poster, a Lion King poster, and then a poster of Sora from Kingdom Hearts on the very end.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And I have noticed that as well.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: My other poster in the room is the Harry Potter posters.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I have a Golden Snitch and the Mirror of Iraced.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: And then on the other wall, finally, I have a Star Wars poster.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And Star Wars is the only movie I haven't covered.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: But I thought it was funny that I've covered most of the posters in here.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: That wasn't by design, but it's definitely matches with the fact that I chose these specific posters to decorate my sanctuary room with because they mean so much to me.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: But essentially, just to get into this episode here, it's just gonna be like a couple sentences that are put in the beginning of the game that I thought were very, very deep and important sentences.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: So essentially the quote-unquote scene recap here is it's like when Sora is faced with choosing which power he wants to hold on to and which one he wants to let go of.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: So that was the sword, the shield, and the staff.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: He gets a choice.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: And essentially he's standing on a stained glass floor of snow white, and then stone blocks appear.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Three of them rise before him.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: The text appears on the screen.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Power sleeps within you.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: If you give it form, it will give you strength.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So those are the lines that we're going to talk about today.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: So for the soul meaning of this, power sleeps within you.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: If you give it form, it will give you strength.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And I've sat with these words for years because they are deeply significant to me.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: I take the power sleeping within us to mean essentially raw creative potential, what your soul wants to express, and you are in a body, you are in form.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: You are meant to create in form, and with every creation, you gain strength.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I don't know if you guys ever feel that, but I definitely have felt that quite a bit.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: Like when you make something or when you carve new grooves for your inner water to flow, when I cook something new, when I write a new episode for divine dialogue.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And, you know, Sora is essentially being told that there is a great power within him, but he has to give it form.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Now, like I said initially, the forms that the game offers to him are the sword, the shield, and the staff.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: In the game, you have to prioritize one and give one up essentially.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: I don't believe that this is how energy works, however.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: In the soul sense, I think that you can be, because he's basically given the choice to be a warrior, a guardian, or a mystic, but he has to give one of them up.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And I get that it's a very dramatic entry into the game and it's it sets up the game for a great story, but I think that in the real world, Sora would have the ability to pour his power into all three of these options because we are only limited in our minds.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: He can water his warrior tree, he can water his guardian tree, he can water his mystic tree.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: And actually in the game, you do have all those powers.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: One is prioritized, but you still have access to the others, which I think is more how life tends to work.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: We all have things our form naturally leans towards more.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: If you're career-oriented, you might water your job tree more.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: If you're relationship-oriented, you might water your partner tree more.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: If you love art, you might water your art tree more.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: You get the idea.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: But the power that sleeps within you is truly yours to shape.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: And you can make wondrous shapes.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: You can change what kind of shapes you make at different stages and phases of your life.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And we do live in such a rigid and structured world, I would say more a rules-based world than a rhythm than a rhythmic world, and in the sense of Kingdom Hearts, a heartless world in some ways.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: We are often guided like sheep by the system to follow rules over rhythms, to live in accordance with schedules instead of cycles.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: But this power within you is raw and unfiltered.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: It really can be anything you want it to be.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: And that's why I wanted to make this episode today to remind you all that as we approach the fall season, you know, we kind of see a seasonal change here in Arizona anyway.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: We don't really see that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: It's still really hot here.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: But I kind of like to I I thought doing an episode like this, I mean, I obviously it was because of the date of the release, but it's also really close to a new season.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: So I thought it was kind of poetic to remind that, you know, when something new is being born, your energy can be reborn too.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: So to get into the personal mirror here, so I've sat with these words for quite a long time.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: They are so important, especially at this point in time.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: For me, as if you've listened to any previous episodes, my power has always leaned strongly towards arrows, towards romance, to the point that it was all I had.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: It was the only tree I watered.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: And when it was active, I felt great.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: The way you feel great when things are radically unstable but still alive.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: But when I didn't get a text back, when there was a small disagreement, or when the worst thing happened, when a relationship would end and I was left, it felt like my whole garden died.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: I know that sounds dramatic, but when you give all your power and form to one area, that is what it feels like: annihilation.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: The soul screams and you're pushed so strongly to immediately fix it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: And I did this for years.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Relationship after relationship, being heartbroken one week and then love the next.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Power sleeps within you.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: If you give it form, it will give you strength.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: And what the game doesn't tell you directly is that if you give too much power to one specific form, it will weaken you overall.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Balance is key.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: That's what I think the key blade of Kingdom Hearts is all about, and why it unlocks worlds.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: You literally unlock worlds when you have multiple vessels holding your power.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: When you actively nurture the key aspects of your life, friends, romance, career, creativity, health, fitness, hobbies, money.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Those are all important trees in your garden.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And what do trees do when one is struggling?
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: They send resources, they help the struggling tree.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: I really don't think that we're meant to live like sharks who eat their own when one is weak because we're communal.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: But there is a false kind of balance too.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we think we are watering different trees, but we are really watering the same tree in different disguises.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: For example, someone can be so consumed by the fitness tree that even family time becomes another version of this.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: They go to their child's game, for example, and on the outside it looks like they are watering the family tree.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: They showed up, they are there, but they are sitting in the stands, but internally what is driving them is still the exercise tree.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Maybe they are counting steps, maybe they are tracking calories, maybe they are thinking about how long they have been sitting, maybe they are turning even presence into performance.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: So it looks like family time, but the family tree is not actually receiving them.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: The fitness tree is still the one being fed.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: And that can happen with anything.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Romance can disguise itself as spirituality, work can disguise itself as responsibility, fitness can disguise itself as discipline, caregiving can disguise itself as love, control can disguise itself as wisdom.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: But the question is not just what am I doing?
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: The deeper question is what tree is actually being fed?
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Because sometimes the activity looks different, but the energy underneath is exactly the same.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: True balance is not just changing the outer shape.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: True balance is letting different parts of your life receive different kinds of presence.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Family time should be family time, rest should be rest, creativity should be creativity, movement should be movement, romance should be romance.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Not every tree is meant to secretly feed the same root.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: That is why discernment matters, because the heart can fool itself, it can make one obsession look like a whole forest, but one tree in costumes is still not a forest.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: And if you put all of your power into one form, you risk becoming heartless because one tree is not meant to be your whole grove.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: No matter how precious or how naturally your form may lean toward it, some people go dark.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: They become heartless, numb, and unfeeling.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: That is the opposite but equally imbalanced reaction to pouring everything into one form.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: You are not meant to abandon your strongest tree.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: You are meant to grow the rest of the forest around it.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: And that is a very different, you know, way to approach what I would say would be watering your inner garden.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: And actually, in my own experience right now, like in addition to, you know, the romance piece, I've kind of been going through this for the last couple weeks, but I've been experiencing quite a bit of I would say just lack of comfort in my current situation because I feel like I've kind of reached a point of needing a break in my current job that I have.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: So I've been doing this for about a well, a little over a year, and I've been talking to my therapist actually about, you know, what where I could pour my power into to give me strength because this current job, like, I mean, it's been great for me in terms of growth, but it's definitely taken its toll on me because it's challenged a lot of programs that are not true and I'm still learning that they're not true.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: Definitely challenging my deep discomfort with certainty or uncertainty rather, like needing to feel like everything, like I know where it's going.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: This job is challenging that.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: And I do think that I got past the worst of it because I'm able to do the job, but it's more like I put the fire out in the house, but I never rebuilt the house, if that makes sense.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: If you guys have ever felt like that, where you you like do something and you you get through it, like you make it through it, but maybe you didn't recover as fully as you would have liked to.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: That's kind of where I am at the moment right now.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: So I'm trying to figure out, like, in my own situation at the moment, like the power that's within me and what form it needs to take.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I had something very fascinating happen actually just yesterday as I'm recording this, because I've been having these days where I'll like cry with really no reason, like clear reason why.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: And it's been happening a lot, and I think it's just a release of a lot of things, but you know, I went to go grab my coloring book because I like to color, um, because that can usually calm me down and kind of re-center me, and it really didn't.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: And then I was thinking, like, my next thought was, well, I must be doing this wrong because coloring is supposed to work, you know, and it didn't.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: And so I kind of got this intuition, this feeling to clean a little bit.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And, you know, if you would have asked me, like, as a betting person, oh, do you think coloring or cleaning will make you feel better?
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Well, definitely coloring.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: But actually, cleaning kind of reoriented me because that was what my soul needed.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Basically, it was received as a, like, I know that you're struggling, so let's make your space more comfortable to struggle in, essentially.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Um, and coloring wasn't fulfilling that.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: So, and coloring was approached as like, a well, this usually works, but I learned a very important thing that you like really the way to regulation and the way to like a better state is to listen in the moment for what you might need, not to just go to something that's been, you know, pretty consistently helpful.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, that that can be okay in in situations, but especially when you find yourself in a bit of uncharted territory like I've been in lately, I think it's very important to listen moment to moment.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: And I kind of wanted to go ahead and use this now to hop into the divine dialogue questions.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: I do have four for you today.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: So, what tree does your soul naturally lean toward more than others?
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Have you noticed what it feels like when you make one tree your entire forest?
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: And have you noticed the ways you might try to water that same tree in different disguises?
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: What happens to you?
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: Well, and to answer these questions, so I actually had a different thing in mind when I originally wrote this, but because especially of recent events, I'm gonna go ahead and talk about let's see here.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Have I noticed what it feels like when I make one tree my entire forest?
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: And have I noticed the ways I might try to water the same tree in different disguises?
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: So for me, I'm kind of starting to see that like certainty.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Uh like I try to make things as certain as I can.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Uh and dealing with uncertainty definitely feels like a threat to parts of me because when things were uncertain, like if I didn't know what the next step was, like and the next maybe 50 steps, it was basically communicated as dangerous to me if I didn't know because I would experience like disappointment or shame or withdrawal of love, essentially.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: So I really spent a lot of time making like a certainty tree very strong, where I try to be like very structured, very organized, like very on top of things.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: And I'm kind of experiencing it at the moment with this leave that I'm trying to take because there's this like paperwork hiccup that's going on, and I'm not entirely sure how it's gonna be fixed, but that is causing quite a bit of discomfort at the moment because you know, I feel like I need a break from the current structure I'm in, but I want to do it, you know, to preserve my job as well, but it's getting to be quite tedious and confusing on my side.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: So, but I'm trying not to let that, you know, psych me out because that's that whole spiral, right?
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Like I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow, which I will be.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: I just had a four-day weekend.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: And but if I were to focus on, well, I need to get this leave paperwork done, and there's nothing I can do.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: This is all external parties.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: There's, you know, things that are going on that I can't do anything about, which that's also very hard for me to deal with.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: But I've noticed that when I fixate too much on it, like it's like my whole world becomes this thing that I don't have control over.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: And it's like you miss, you know, the little things.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Like I talk about in the broken bottles episode of Balto, like the little things that you can do, like the cleaning I did yesterday.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Like that really regulated me.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: I slept really well last night.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: I was just enjoying the football for all of you out there yesterday.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Well, as I'm recording this, this past Sunday was the first season of football.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And I'm one of those people who doesn't really like the cowboys too much, so I was happy to see the Giants beat them.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: But, you know, because I did a small task and listened to what would, you know, basically make me feel loved.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: And that's the thing, is I also approached it with love.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: It was, it wasn't like a, oh, you need to clean because you can't be stressed and messy.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Like that's not acceptable.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: You're not supposed to be either, but you should definitely clean.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: It wasn't a disciplinary act.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: It was, let's make this space more comfortable for you to rest in because you're struggling right now.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: And that was received by my spirit as like a genuine gesture of love and care.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: So it reflected my inner state of being calm, you know, and I'm I'm sitting here this morning recording this, and because I've fallen a bit behind in my episodes compared to where I was, because I've been stressed out, but I was like, you know what?
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Like it doesn't have to be per this doesn't have to be perfect either.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Like, but just keep your rhythm because like I really want to keep going with this.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, even if it's not as good as some other episodes, that's okay.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Like, as long as I put something out there that I've written with sincerity, you know, that's good enough.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: And that's the other thing is like challenging perfectionism.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Like, because I think a lot of us struggle with that, where we, you know, think, well, if we can't do it as pristinely as we were, we might as well just quit.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: And it's like, I definitely did that in my life as well.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Like, I really didn't give a lot of forms time to hold the power I had to give me strength, because as soon as I, you know, didn't do something correctly, I would give it up because I just felt like, well, if I can't do it perfectly, then I don't want to do it at all.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: And that is obviously very defeating because you don't get to, you know, ever master anything.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: And even masters make mistakes too, all the time.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: But if you quit because you can't tolerate like uncertainty or perfect not being perfect or fear of criticism or any of these things, that can be very taxing, you know.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: And I think I'll go ahead and kind of close it here, divine listeners, with essentially this reflection.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Maybe the question is not whether we have power, maybe the question is whether we are willing to give it form.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Because when the hidden thing inside us is shaped with love, it does not just stay a feeling, it becomes strength.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Maybe the deeper lesson is that form requires honesty.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: We have to ask not only what am I creating, but what part of me is driving this creation?
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Because the same tree can wear many costumes, and one tree in costumes is still not a forest.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Balance is not about denying the tree you love most.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Balance is about remembering that one tree, no matter how beautiful, was never meant to be the whole forest.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: So today, as we honor Kingdom Hearts, I invite you to ask yourself in closing, what power is sleeping within me?
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: What form is it asking for?
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: And where in my life am I being invited to grow the rest of the forest?
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: So I want to leave you with those reflections here.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: And so this will come out Thursday, and we will also be finishing up the Lion King the day after that.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: So it will be a two-episode week this week for Divine Dialogue, and then I will be revealing on the Lion King episode where I'm going very briefly before we get into the next series.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: So please stay tuned for that.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: And until next time, Divine Listeners, just remember that you have raw creative power that is yours to shape.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: And I just suggest that as you shape it, you shape it with love, not with fear, not with pressure, with love, because that will be what is directed back to you.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: All right, and I will see you on the next episode.
