- 0:18Speaker 1: Good morning and welcome back into our This is the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Life podcast this morning. This past weekend I've been kind
- 0:23Speaker 1: of thinking a lot about the word mercy and how
- 0:26Speaker 1: it appears in the Bible and how just wonder how
- 0:30Speaker 1: wonderful it is that the Lord extends his mercy and
- 0:33Speaker 1: his grace towards us but I just want to take
- 0:36Speaker 1: a couple of days here and really talk about the
- 0:39Speaker 1: word mercy and how we can apply it to our
- 0:42Speaker 1: lives and receive it the way we should. And today
- 0:45Speaker 1: it's all about receiving mercy. Because in Hebrews chapter 4
- 0:49Speaker 1: verse number 16 the word of God says, Let us
- 0:51Speaker 1: therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we
- 0:55Speaker 1: may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time
- 1:01Speaker 1: of need. That verse really stands out for me because
- 1:06Speaker 1: there are things we find easy sometimes to give someone
- 1:09Speaker 1: else mercy, but difficult to receive it ourselves. And mercy
- 1:15Speaker 1: is one of those things that we do struggle with
- 1:18Speaker 1: sometimes because what mercy is, according to the Word of God,
- 1:22Speaker 1: is mercy is compassion shown to someone in need, especially
- 1:26Speaker 1: when they could have been met with more judgment instead.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And God's mercy is simply means He sees us fully
- 1:35Speaker 1: and completely just the way we are, including where we've
- 1:38Speaker 1: gone wrong in life. But yet He still invites us
- 1:42Speaker 1: to come to Him for forgiveness and for instructions how
- 1:47Speaker 1: to go about living our lives. When someone we love
- 1:50Speaker 1: makes a mistake, oftentimes we may remind them that one
- 1:54Speaker 1: bad decision doesn't define our life. We may even encourage
- 1:58Speaker 1: them to bring it to God and receive His mercy. Ah,
- 2:02Speaker 1: but when the mistake is ours, we sometimes keep returning
- 2:06Speaker 1: to it as though we remember what we said, what
- 2:09Speaker 1: we should have done, maybe the person that we've hurt,
- 2:13Speaker 1: things we should have changed. Perhaps you have asked God
- 2:17Speaker 1: to forgive you, yet you still feel as though you
- 2:20Speaker 1: must carry the weight of it somehow, as if feeling
- 2:23Speaker 1: bad enough long enough will prove that you're truly remorseful
- 2:26Speaker 1: for it. That's not the way mercy works. Hebrews tells
- 2:30Speaker 1: us to come to the throne of grace and obtain mercy.
- 2:35Speaker 1: So when I look at that, that's an invitation. And
- 2:39Speaker 1: it's an invitation straight from God. He already knows what
- 2:43Speaker 1: we're bringing to Him. We do not have to hide that,
- 2:47Speaker 1: dress it up, or wait until we feel worthy enough
- 2:50Speaker 1: to come. He says come boldly. And receiving mercy has
- 2:55Speaker 1: to begin with honesty. We can tell the Lord plainly.
- 2:59Speaker 1: where we were wrong. And if we need to apologize
- 3:02Speaker 1: to someone and make something right, then we can take
- 3:04Speaker 1: that step also, but not before we get it right
- 3:07Speaker 1: with the Lord. And then, when we have asked for
- 3:11Speaker 1: His forgiveness, then we can thank Him for it and
- 3:14Speaker 1: move past that. And that last part sometimes takes practice,
- 3:17Speaker 1: but it means trusting His mercy more than the voice
- 3:21Speaker 1: that keeps reliving our failures in our mind. I think
- 3:25Speaker 1: about the prodigal son often. We've talked about that Subject
- 3:30Speaker 1: matter a few times here on our podcast over the years.
- 3:33Speaker 1: But I think about the prodigal son walking home with
- 3:37Speaker 1: that speech already prepared. You remember it? He knew he
- 3:40Speaker 1: had done wrong and he was ready to say so.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But before he could finish explaining himself, his father welcomed him.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Now this is what's important. The son still had to
- 3:50Speaker 1: make that walk home. But he did not have to
- 3:53Speaker 1: persuade the father to extend mercy. Maybe today. You've been
- 3:58Speaker 1: feeling as though you're standing at a distance, holding on
- 4:01Speaker 1: to something that you've already brought before the Lord, but
- 4:04Speaker 1: just can't seem to let go of. Well, Jesus invites
- 4:08Speaker 1: you to come close today. Tell Him the truth once
- 4:12Speaker 1: more if you need to, and then listen to what
- 4:15Speaker 1: His Word says about His mercy. Now, you may still
- 4:19Speaker 1: remember what happened, but you can take these steps with
- 4:23Speaker 1: a lighter heart now because today, God welcomes every person
- 4:28Speaker 1: who comes to Him to obtain mercy. This morning, is
- 4:33Speaker 1: there something you have asked God to forgive but you're
- 4:35Speaker 1: struggling to release? If so, I want you to listen
- 4:39Speaker 1: to this verse again. Let us therefore come boldly unto
- 4:44Speaker 1: the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and
- 4:50Speaker 1: find grace to help in time of need. Today you
- 4:55Speaker 1: be safe. You be strong and you be blessed. Lord's
- 4:59Speaker 1: will will see you back here again tomorrow. Have a
- 5:02Speaker 1: great day.
