- 0:24Speaker 2: a hater. It is Thursdays with Danny Parkins. Check out
- 0:27Speaker 2: First Things First on FS1. Brother, what's going on?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Joe and Bo, good morning. Carl Anthony Towns is three
- 0:34Speaker 1: games away from being an NBA champion.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So we can get, like, straight to this. We can
- 0:39Speaker 1: do pleasantries, too, but, like, come on, let's not bury them.
- 0:42Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no. Like, that's, it's not
- 0:45Speaker 2: just that we're three games away from him being a champion.
- 0:47Speaker 2: We're three games away from him not just being on
- 0:50Speaker 2: the champion, but being the reason that they would be champions. So, Joel,
- 0:56Speaker 2: I don't know why it is that Joel always come
- 0:58Speaker 2: up when he ain't here, but this happened. in a
- 1:01Speaker 2: group chat with Joel, and you know, Joel has this
- 1:04Speaker 2: weird protective thing about Carl because he felt like people
- 1:07Speaker 2: would be mean to him.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Oh, right.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Probably were. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but they weren't wrong. But anyway, anyway,
- 1:17Speaker 2: he pops up with this thing about Towns, and he
- 1:20Speaker 2: says something to me about how I have been offering
- 1:22Speaker 2: Towns faint praise this postseason, and that's not true, right?
- 1:26Speaker 2: I started the postseason saying that if the Knicks are
- 1:29Speaker 2: going to win the championship, He had to be their
- 1:31Speaker 2: best player. That was their only chance. And they have
- 1:34Speaker 2: gotten here because he has been their best player. He's
- 1:37Speaker 2: been their best player also, weirdly enough, on 20% usage. Like,
- 1:40Speaker 2: it's not like he's been their best player because he's
- 1:42Speaker 2: out here knocking down every bucket. He's been their best
- 1:44Speaker 2: player because once things run through him, you have this reminder.
- 1:46Speaker 2: There's literally nobody in the league that can guard him
- 1:49Speaker 2: except for number 32 on the Knicks. And the Spurs
- 1:52Speaker 2: don't have anybody who can really guard him, right? Like,
- 1:56Speaker 2: Victor can guard him in the way that Victor can
- 1:58Speaker 2: guard everybody because you never know when the block's going
- 2:00Speaker 2: to come. But Carl is so much bigger than him
- 2:02Speaker 2: that if he gets by him by just a little bit, right,
- 2:06Speaker 2: the shoulders are past him. There's nothing really he can do.
- 2:09Speaker 2: And the Spurs, every other big man on the Spurs
- 2:11Speaker 2: is as old as me. All of them, right? They're
- 2:15Speaker 2: unplayably old, except for Luke Cornett. Get the fuck out
- 2:18Speaker 2: of here, right? Like, this is not, you know, This
- 2:22Speaker 2: is where they are. Carl last night, and he's out
- 2:24Speaker 2: here like, he ain't making all them stupid fouls, though
- 2:27Speaker 2: he'll get you with a couple every now and then.
- 2:29Speaker 2: He is calm under pressure, which is not something that
- 2:32Speaker 2: I would have expected. So Brunson hit the shots last
- 2:36Speaker 2: night or on Wednesday night, but I thought it was
- 2:39Speaker 2: no question, man. The guy for them has been Carl.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Undeniably, there was, this is a old reference. You'll get
- 2:48Speaker 1: the point. in the post Jordan era bulls, uh, when
- 2:51Speaker 1: they drafted Eddie Curry and Tyson Chandler, they were like,
- 2:54Speaker 1: they're going to be our two bigs. And it's going
- 2:56Speaker 1: to be the next era of rape bulls basketball. Scott
- 2:59Speaker 1: Skiles was a real hard ass. He was their coach
- 3:01Speaker 1: a couple of years into Eddie Curry's career. And there
- 3:03Speaker 1: was a question asked like why this big old seven footer,
- 3:05Speaker 1: Eddie Curry was averaging like four rebounds a game. And
- 3:08Speaker 1: the question was like, why, uh, what could Eddie Curry
- 3:10Speaker 1: do to be a better rebounder?
- 3:13Speaker 2: And Scott Skiles said, jump.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And it was just like, like Carl Anthony Towns, It
- 3:19Speaker 1: honestly feels like, and he's been doing it for months,
- 3:21Speaker 1: to be clear. It's just like, he's playing with effort.
- 3:26Speaker 1: He's playing hard. He's playing aggressive. His aggressiveness is now
- 3:29Speaker 1: meeting his obvious skill level. And he just took it
- 3:34Speaker 1: to Victor Wembanyama last night from jump. Because Brunson obviously
- 3:39Speaker 1: had the knee get hurt, got dinged up, whatever. Was
- 3:42Speaker 1: missing shots. Castle is a menace. Wemby backing him up.
- 3:45Speaker 2: The whole thing.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It's going to be tough for brunson to have efficiency
- 3:48Speaker 1: even though the dude's fearless and i'm sure we'll talk
- 3:50Speaker 1: more about him but carly anthony towns just was getting
- 3:54Speaker 1: around victor wembanyama with relative ease i'm sure it wasn't
- 3:58Speaker 1: easy but it looked easy because he is so crazy
- 4:02Speaker 1: talented and so much of the criticism of of.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Cat has been effort you know the story.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah i love the 2018 uh you know jimmy butler
- 4:13Speaker 1: was like ultimately kind of his undoing in minnesota He
- 4:16Speaker 1: calls out Towns at practice. He calls out Wiggins at practice.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And he's like, give me the four worst players on
- 4:22Speaker 1: the team. And Jimmy Butler just talked trash to him
- 4:25Speaker 1: the whole time and beat the starters with the backups
- 4:28Speaker 1: and basically clowned Towns in front of the whole front office.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And then left to do an interview with Rachel Nichols.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It was unbelievable.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It was unbelievable.
- 4:35Speaker 2: By the way, that's why Joel hates Jimmy and why
- 4:38Speaker 2: Joel puts his cape off for Carl, which is the
- 4:40Speaker 2: most backward logic of all time. It's the most important.
- 4:43Speaker 2: At the time, Butler was correct.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But I'm seriously impressed by Towns, and I can't even
- 4:51Speaker 1: pretend like it's a hot streak because he's been great
- 4:56Speaker 1: basically all season.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Good for him, right?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Look, I still contend that Minnesota traded Carl Towns for
- 5:03Speaker 2: Julius Randle. Yes, there were other pieces, but that was...
- 5:05Speaker 2: fundamentally what it was, because both of them felt like
- 5:07Speaker 2: you can't win with that guy. And the other team
- 5:09Speaker 2: was like, yeah, we'll give it a try. We can't
- 5:11Speaker 2: win with this guy. And Minnesota is stuck with Eeyore.
- 5:14Speaker 2: And Towns riled up in a situation where They're not
- 5:18Speaker 2: asking him to do that much. And when I say that,
- 5:20Speaker 2: I don't mean with the ball. It's not some expectation
- 5:23Speaker 2: that he's supposed to be the guy that carries the franchise.
- 5:26Speaker 2: He is one of many. Jalen Brunson, face of franchise.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It's a bunch of nice kids, right, on that team.
- 5:33Speaker 2: He fits very well within the dynamic that they have.
- 5:36Speaker 2: They've got the right players to kind of mask some
- 5:39Speaker 2: of his shortcomings. And his defense has gotten better, though
- 5:42Speaker 2: that is like primary shortcoming and always has been. And
- 5:45Speaker 2: so you mentioned the dumb fouls, right?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Like he's, he's always been a dumb foul guy that
- 5:49Speaker 1: did not happen in game one. I'm sure that will
- 5:51Speaker 1: happen at some point. Like he's not, he's not going
- 5:53Speaker 1: to get defensive player of the year votes. But again,
- 5:55Speaker 1: like if you're a good athlete at seven feet tall
- 5:58Speaker 1: and you try, like there's a fairly high floor for
- 6:02Speaker 1: what you can be as a defensive player. And he's
- 6:05Speaker 1: a really good rebounder when he tries. And that is
- 6:08Speaker 1: how you close defensive possessions. So like, it's not like
- 6:10Speaker 1: he has no utility as a defensive player, He just
- 6:13Speaker 1: needs to give a damn, and he has been, man.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I don't think he'll win finals MVP if they win it,
- 6:20Speaker 1: but it's on the board.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Well, the thing that I noticed when he got to
- 6:25Speaker 2: the Knicks that I don't think I realized quite was
- 6:28Speaker 2: that how good a passer he was. Yeah. He's skilled.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Like when he first got, got to the Knicks and
- 6:34Speaker 2: he was incredible at the beginning of year one, it
- 6:36Speaker 2: tailed off by the end of the year, but he
- 6:37Speaker 2: was incredible. And I was watching that and I was like, Oh,
- 6:40Speaker 2: this is what happens to everybody. You get your, like
- 6:43Speaker 2: you get a different exposure to him. And you're like,
- 6:44Speaker 2: this guy could be the best player in the NBA.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Right now, if you dial back from that and just
- 6:49Speaker 2: be like, you know what? This guy could be the
- 6:51Speaker 2: best player. Look, if he ends up being the best
- 6:54Speaker 2: player on a championship team, That is rare air that
- 7:00Speaker 2: you are in at that point.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Well, and.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Talk about a championship that is going to age well.
- 7:07Speaker 5: Yes.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Like, if he is the best player or the second
- 7:13Speaker 3: best player and the best big on a championship team
- 7:18Speaker 3: that beat Victor.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Wimbinyama, like, my guess is in 24, 50, we will
- 7:25Speaker 5: look back on Carl Anthony Towns and hold him in
- 7:28Speaker 5: even higher esteem because of what he did.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And then, like, you factor in.
- 7:32Speaker 2: How about the Knicks winning their first championship in 53 years? Right, right, right. Yeah, right.
- 7:36Speaker 1: The historical significance of it. He'll be courtside at MSG
- 7:40Speaker 1: for the rest of his life.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yes. Hall of Fame? Yeah. I mean, I think... that
- 7:46Speaker 2: might have gotten solidified just by them making the finals.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I agree. And I'm saying regardless of whether you think
- 7:53Speaker 2: he's a Hall of Fame player, what are we talking about,
- 7:55Speaker 2: like six-time All-Star? I don't... And you make it to
- 8:00Speaker 2: the final. That, it's kind of there.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Right.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Number one pick.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It's a remarkable career transformation. Like when he said he
- 8:12Speaker 1: was the greatest shooting big man of all time, Everyone
- 8:15Speaker 1: mocked him.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but we mocked him not because it was it
- 8:18Speaker 2: wasn't true. Why would you say that? Right, right.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's just like inviting criticism, inviting attention to a career
- 8:28Speaker 1: that has felt largely like you are a huge underachiever.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So I really don't feel bad for the arrows that
- 8:34Speaker 1: this guy has taken over the course of his career.
- 8:36Speaker 2: But it is really a.
- 8:39Speaker 1: It's a testament to, like, your narrative is never written
- 8:41Speaker 1: in stone until you die.
- 8:43Speaker 2: No, and also, like, we got an episode coming up
- 8:45Speaker 2: where me and Vinny talk about Dirk Nowitzki. All you
- 8:49Speaker 2: got to do is win one. No doubt. Unless you're
- 8:52Speaker 2: in the LeBron James, Wilt Chamberlain. Sure. Rarified air. Dr. J.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Well, Dr.
- 9:00Speaker 2: J only had to win one. She only got to
- 9:03Speaker 2: win one.
- 9:04Speaker 1: We're not talking about Carl Anthony Towns as a top
- 9:06Speaker 1: 10 player of all time. We are parsing greatness between
- 9:10Speaker 1: Hakeem Olajuwon and Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant. If you
- 9:15Speaker 1: get the one and it's in New York and you
- 9:18Speaker 1: rewrote your history and the Basketball Hall of Fame is
- 9:20Speaker 1: easy to get into, you're just going to be a
- 9:22Speaker 1: Hall of Famer.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Carl Anthony Towns, Hall of Famer. I'll tell you this though,
- 9:27Speaker 2: as it relates to the Spurs, they've got a problem
- 9:32Speaker 2: and that problem is They don't have a playable big man.
- 9:36Speaker 2: As of now, Victor is still tall man. And he
- 9:41Speaker 2: has points at which he can get the ball to
- 9:44Speaker 2: the basket and get close, but he's still tall man.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I think the evolution of him is being an excellent
- 9:50Speaker 2: high post player, but I'm not sure when it's going
- 9:52Speaker 2: to get to the point where he can just get
- 9:53Speaker 2: close to the basket whenever he wants to. And that's
- 9:57Speaker 2: where they wind up with real issues. there this is
- 10:01Speaker 2: a terrible matchup for San Antonio that being said They
- 10:05Speaker 2: just couldn't buy a bucket at the end. I thought
- 10:07Speaker 2: they took bad shots. I thought when they had decent shots,
- 10:10Speaker 2: they missed them. I want to say they shot something
- 10:12Speaker 2: like around 30% from three or something crazy like that.
- 10:17Speaker 2: To me, game one was a game one in a
- 10:19Speaker 2: lot of ways. And I think both teams can go
- 10:22Speaker 2: back and feel pretty good about themselves and their ability
- 10:25Speaker 2: to kind of tweak this out. But San Antonio was
- 10:28Speaker 2: not ready in the sense that nobody that you can
- 10:31Speaker 2: put on the floor is big. Nobody.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, they shot 36% from the floor, 26% from three,
- 10:40Speaker 1: and Wemenyama was six of 21 from the floor and
- 10:43Speaker 1: two of nine from three. And this is overly simplistic,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and I know he has hit absolutely monster threes, the
- 10:51Speaker 1: most famous being the end of game one of the
- 10:54Speaker 1: Western Conference Finals, obviously.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Like, he can do it.
- 10:58Speaker 1: But you don't want him taking nine threes, not because
- 11:01Speaker 1: he can't hit them, because to me it's a fatigue sign.
- 11:04Speaker 1: He is settling a bit and playing three-point line to
- 11:08Speaker 1: three-point line, and I thought he looked tired. And I
- 11:12Speaker 1: know it's weird for someone like me to say about
- 11:14Speaker 1: someone like him.
- 11:14Speaker 2: No, no, no, it was clear.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I thought it was abundantly clear that he was tired,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and I think it's a product of his size, the
- 11:24Speaker 1: Knicks physicality, the length of the series against Oklahoma City,
- 11:28Speaker 1: the fact that he played 29 minutes a game in
- 11:30Speaker 1: the regular season, so he's not built up for it.
- 11:33Speaker 1: There's a million factors. And now he's I thought he
- 11:36Speaker 1: was not going to be able to survive two overtimes
- 11:37Speaker 1: of game one of the Western Conference finals. And he
- 11:39Speaker 1: did and proved this wrong. And he was amazing in
- 11:41Speaker 1: game seven on the road defensively in Oklahoma City. So
- 11:44Speaker 1: like he'll find another wind. But he did not have
- 11:47Speaker 1: it last night.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I would also make this point, and I think it's important.
- 11:53Speaker 2: No matter what the experience level is on the floor. Right.
- 11:58Speaker 2: And I bring that up to say. The Knicks don't
- 12:00Speaker 2: have anybody that's played on this particular stage. The Spurs
- 12:05Speaker 2: have Harrison Barnes, right, as guys who have played on
- 12:10Speaker 2: this level of stage. But still, it's a big difference
- 12:14Speaker 2: between being 22 and 29. Every starter for the Knicks
- 12:19Speaker 2: is between 28 and 31. All these guys out here
- 12:24Speaker 2: for the Spurs, Sham Pipple is 24. Victor is 22.
- 12:28Speaker 2: I want to say Vassell is 25. Castle is 21.
- 12:32Speaker 2: De'Aaron Fox, the old man of the bunch, is 28.
- 12:37Speaker 2: The Knicks have a bunch of grown men. The Spurs,
- 12:40Speaker 2: not so much. So I think about that in the
- 12:42Speaker 2: context of Victor and stamina where the stakes get up there, right?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Like he does a good job. He out there fucking
- 12:48Speaker 2: around with the monks and everything else, right? Like I
- 12:50Speaker 2: think that he does have a certain calm and composition
- 12:53Speaker 2: to him. His post-game quotes sounded very mature and all
- 12:56Speaker 2: of these things. But in the end, man, stakes ain't
- 12:58Speaker 2: never been higher than they had been. Never been an
- 13:00Speaker 2: arena that had been louder than the one that he
- 13:04Speaker 2: had been in. All of those things. And that goes
- 13:07Speaker 2: to that gets into a fatigue place because you're so
- 13:10Speaker 2: ramped up trying to play this game. And the Knicks
- 13:13Speaker 2: did not seem that there was never a point to
- 13:16Speaker 2: me where this felt like it was big. I'm not
- 13:18Speaker 2: even saying too big because I don't think the moment
- 13:20Speaker 2: was too big for the Spurs. but the moment was
- 13:22Speaker 2: very big for the Spurs. Maybe there's something to the
- 13:24Speaker 2: fact that they got all those guys that won one
- 13:26Speaker 2: or two national championships, right? Like they played games that
- 13:29Speaker 2: had stakes.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Yeah. I was just thinking about the national championships and listen,
- 13:34Speaker 1: they've played in a lot of playoff games.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Like, like Jalen Brunson. I was looking at it yesterday before,
- 13:40Speaker 1: before game one, Jalen Brunson has the most points in
- 13:45Speaker 1: the playoffs, like in total and aggregate over.
- 13:47Speaker 2: The last four post seasons. Yeah. They've played in a
- 13:51Speaker 2: lot of playoff games.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Now, they haven't hung a banner, which is why they've
- 13:54Speaker 1: been disappointing, but these guys largely together have played in
- 13:58Speaker 1: a ton of these games. I did think the idea
- 14:00Speaker 1: that the Spurs had over-celebrated the Western Conference, I thought
- 14:06Speaker 1: that was silly because they beat the champs. They were
- 14:10Speaker 1: going to the finals. How many athletes have we heard, like, hey,
- 14:12Speaker 1: if they're giving out a trophy, I want to win it?
- 14:14Speaker 1: That was the first trophy they had won together as
- 14:17Speaker 1: a team, so I didn't think that their celebration of
- 14:19Speaker 1: that was indicative of anything. And they were up 14
- 14:22Speaker 1: points in the third quarter. So I don't think that
- 14:25Speaker 1: like at all that the moment was too big. I
- 14:27Speaker 1: don't think that they're going to panic after losing home
- 14:30Speaker 1: court advantage or anything like that. Like I expect them
- 14:32Speaker 1: to come back and have a much better game two
- 14:34Speaker 1: shooting from the floor. They easily could have won game one,
- 14:38Speaker 1: but the Knicks didn't fold, man. Like I did think
- 14:40Speaker 1: that there was a real chance that just the step
- 14:43Speaker 1: up in competition for the Knicks to the Spurs and
- 14:46Speaker 1: how much better the West was than the East. Like
- 14:48Speaker 1: I had a lot more concerns about the Knicks ability
- 14:51Speaker 1: than the Spurs going in.
- 14:53Speaker 2: And obviously I was dead ass wrong. Yeah. So one
- 14:55Speaker 2: thing I would say, like, I would argue that the
- 14:57Speaker 2: Knicks actually have not been disappointing. They've had a climb, right?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Get to the second round, get to the conference finals.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Like this collection of guys, even though this is the
- 15:07Speaker 2: second year for Towns, but he's still, I think, involved
- 15:09Speaker 2: in this. This collection of guys has been making the climb. Right.
- 15:12Speaker 2: That we typically talk about with teams going to getting
- 15:15Speaker 2: this far where they get to this point, they hit
- 15:17Speaker 2: their head like that first year where Brunson was there.
- 15:19Speaker 2: And I want to say they lost in the second round.
- 15:21Speaker 2: They got a standing ovation at Madison Square Garden. I
- 15:25Speaker 2: don't recall a standing ovation after they lost to the
- 15:27Speaker 2: Pacers necessarily. But this one. These are the steps. This
- 15:31Speaker 2: is where it is they're supposed to be. The Spurs
- 15:34Speaker 2: skipped some steps. And I think that the discussion around
- 15:37Speaker 2: their celebration after the game, I agree with you, was silly.
- 15:40Speaker 2: But it was interesting because in my mind, I compared
- 15:43Speaker 2: it to the Utah Jazz in 97 after Stockton hit
- 15:45Speaker 2: that shot against the Rockets. And all those years that
- 15:49Speaker 2: they have been trying to do this for eight or
- 15:50Speaker 2: nine years at that point, and all of those years
- 15:53Speaker 2: just came out in that moment. Stockton is jumping up
- 15:56Speaker 2: and down and they come out there. But nobody was
- 15:59Speaker 2: feeling like, oh, wow, they already won their championship. No,
- 16:01Speaker 2: that's not what happened. Maybe it feels different because the
- 16:04Speaker 2: Spurs were so young under that scenario. But it was
- 16:07Speaker 2: game seven against a bunch of dudes they despise. Like,
- 16:11Speaker 2: absolutely loathe in one of the most intimidating environments that
- 16:15Speaker 2: there is. And it was a close game, for the
- 16:17Speaker 2: most part, going all the way. Yeah, the guys were
- 16:20Speaker 2: happy about winning. There's a goddamn trophy presentation, man. Correct.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Right?
- 16:24Speaker 2: The Knicks weren't going to act like that because the
- 16:26Speaker 2: Knicks were winning by 67 points for the entirety of
- 16:30Speaker 2: the game. In a sweep.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Like, it was just completely... And listen, and Brunson is,
- 16:36Speaker 1: you know, a different kind of crazy.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Like, after game one.
- 16:40Speaker 1: when he hits that shot, he just starts yelling at
- 16:43Speaker 1: Scott Foster. Yes. Like the game ends.
- 16:47Speaker 2: They've won game one.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And obviously you're not expecting a huge celebration, but he
- 16:51Speaker 1: just like poor Lisa Salters is like, when is this
- 16:54Speaker 1: interview going to happen?
- 16:55Speaker 2: He's just like berating Scott Foster.
- 16:57Speaker 1: I'm like, I know you didn't, you know, shoot a
- 17:00Speaker 1: free throw until like late in the third quarter and
- 17:02Speaker 1: you had gotten the knee injury. And then Luke Cornett
- 17:05Speaker 1: stepped on your ankle, which was clearly totally accidental. But like,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I was just, He's just berating. I don't know.
- 17:12Speaker 2: If that was Luca, we would have been killing it.
- 17:14Speaker 2: All he was doing was pitching to the refs. All night.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Did you see where Mike Brown said about them complaining
- 17:20Speaker 2: to the refs? He said at postgame, he was like, no,
- 17:22Speaker 2: our problem was we were all just talking too much
- 17:24Speaker 2: to the refs. He said Rick Brunson told everybody to
- 17:26Speaker 2: shut the hell up, including Mike Brown. And then everything
- 17:29Speaker 2: came together.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I did not see that, but I love that because
- 17:33Speaker 1: I found it to be distracting. How much they were
- 17:37Speaker 1: complaining to the refs in an NBA finals game when
- 17:39Speaker 1: they weren't hitting the broad.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Side of a farm. Hit a shot. You're not getting fouled.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I don't understand what was happening. Well, okay. No, no.
- 17:49Speaker 1: But Brunson is just this stoic figure almost to his personality.
- 17:54Speaker 2: And Wemby clearly... I mean, the guy.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Talked after that one. He was like, I want to
- 17:59Speaker 1: win 15 or 20 of these. Yeah. And no one's
- 18:03Speaker 1: killing him like LeBron's not six, not seven, not eight.
- 18:06Speaker 1: They're just crazy people. Now, I want to put a
- 18:09Speaker 1: pin in what you just said about Brunson. I want
- 18:10Speaker 1: to make this point about Mike Brown right fast, and
- 18:12Speaker 1: I think this matters.
- 18:14Speaker 2: This is the fourth franchise with which Mike Brown has
- 18:20Speaker 2: been to an NBA Finals in some capacity. Went there
- 18:23Speaker 2: with the Spurs, went there with the Cavs, went there
- 18:25Speaker 2: with the Warriors. And now he's back to this. Mitch Johnson,
- 18:33Speaker 2: of whom I had never heard two years ago. Well,
- 18:35Speaker 2: I remember now that he played at Stanford, but I
- 18:38Speaker 2: didn't have to connect those things. Anyway, this is a
- 18:40Speaker 2: bit brand new to him. Mike Brown has done this
- 18:43Speaker 2: from a bunch of different angles with a bunch of
- 18:44Speaker 2: different guys with a bunch of different types of teams.
- 18:47Speaker 2: And so I do think there's something to be said
- 18:48Speaker 2: about him knowing what this moment requires. Not to say
- 18:51Speaker 2: that Johnson can't figure it out or whatever, but in
- 18:54Speaker 2: game one, Mike Brown's walking in with a different level
- 18:57Speaker 2: of institutional knowledge, I would argue. And I think there's
- 18:59Speaker 2: something to that in terms of, you know, how that
- 19:01Speaker 2: game went. The thing with Jalen Brunson, if I were
- 19:08Speaker 2: coaching the Spurs, here's what I would do. I would
- 19:13Speaker 2: find somebody who had been around the 2004 NBA finals.
- 19:18Speaker 2: And I would bring up this point. We have had
- 19:21Speaker 2: David Aldridge on this show and he has talked about
- 19:23Speaker 2: this and it's a crazy story to go back on
- 19:26Speaker 2: and a lot most people notice if you don't this
- 19:28Speaker 2: is pretty amazing Larry Brown I don't think this is
- 19:32Speaker 2: on the record I think it was off the record
- 19:34Speaker 2: but still he told any reporter who would listen what
- 19:39Speaker 2: their strategy was for beating the Lakers in 04 and
- 19:43Speaker 2: you got to remember that was the chaos year right
- 19:45Speaker 2: that was the year when Kobe was going to court
- 19:47Speaker 2: all the time Gary Payton and Karl Malone had been
- 19:49Speaker 2: brought in, all of these things. Shaq Knight getting his money,
- 19:52Speaker 2: all of this. Larry Brown said, look, those two guys
- 19:58Speaker 2: over there hate each other. And their strategy was less
- 20:03Speaker 2: of a basketball strategy than more of a people strategy
- 20:06Speaker 2: against And the idea was to create a circumstance that
- 20:11Speaker 2: goaded Kobe Bryant into taking more and more and more
- 20:16Speaker 2: and more and more shots. If I remember this right,
- 20:20Speaker 2: I wish Vinny was here because he knows it better
- 20:22Speaker 2: than I do. But part of it was to let
- 20:24Speaker 2: Shaq get his situation going and then let Kobe shoot
- 20:27Speaker 2: you out the gate. But the plan was to use
- 20:30Speaker 2: the interpersonal dynamics of the team to get those two
- 20:34Speaker 2: guys to actually play against each other. And then that
- 20:38Speaker 2: would leave me in the infamous five game sweep that
- 20:41Speaker 2: they had in that series. Jalen Brunson shot 31 shots
- 20:48Speaker 2: in this game. This team has been at its most
- 20:51Speaker 2: successful when the team runs through Carl Anthony Towns. When
- 20:55Speaker 2: they have bogged down, now granted Brunson hit those shots late,
- 20:58Speaker 2: but this was not, I do not think this was
- 21:00Speaker 2: a good game from Jalen Brunson, right? When they have
- 21:03Speaker 2: bogged down, it's when Jalen Brunson goes back to running
- 21:07Speaker 2: an isolation brand of Jalen Brunson ball that depending on
- 21:10Speaker 2: who you talk to was kind of fraying things with
- 21:12Speaker 2: this team last year and at points going through this year.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So if you're the Spurs, how do you get Jalen
- 21:19Speaker 2: Brunson to do that? It sounds counterintuitive, the idea of
- 21:23Speaker 2: we want Jalen Brunson to take a bunch of shots,
- 21:25Speaker 2: just like it would seem counterintuitive to say we want
- 21:28Speaker 2: to get Kobe Bryant to take a bunch of shots.
- 21:31Speaker 2: But if things are running through their best player, things
- 21:35Speaker 2: are not going to be that good for the Spurs.
- 21:37Speaker 2: If you let Jalen Brunson run ISO, your size problems
- 21:41Speaker 2: don't matter anymore, right? All these other things don't really matter.
- 21:46Speaker 2: If you can trick Jalen Brunson into thinking he needs
- 21:49Speaker 2: to get out here and keep shooting 31 shots.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Listen, it's a great point. The thing is to say
- 21:55Speaker 1: to a Knicks fan that Jalen Brunson isn't their best player.
- 21:58Speaker 4: I know.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Is it akin to saying that your child doesn't love you?
- 22:03Speaker 1: I know.
- 22:04Speaker 2: They can't. Nobody wants to hear me when I say this. it's,
- 22:09Speaker 2: it's like I said, I listen, man.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Towns is a more like singular talent, but I
- 22:17Speaker 1: will say what Brunson has is like, like Chet Holmgren
- 22:21Speaker 1: should pay Jalen Brunson $ 5 million in the off season
- 22:25Speaker 1: to just like, try to get inside his head because like,
- 22:28Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson would have gone, what do you want, 12
- 22:31Speaker 1: for 31?
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:32Speaker 1: He would have gone 12 for 70. That's what it took. Like,
- 22:36Speaker 1: if that's what it took. Like, there was no world
- 22:38Speaker 1: where he wasn't shooting down the stretch. And there is something, too. Like,
- 22:43Speaker 1: everyone on that team has signed up for it. Maybe
- 22:47Speaker 1: they want more shots early and you want to get
- 22:49Speaker 1: big the touches early and get it. But they have
- 22:51Speaker 1: signed up for, this guy has won this weird clutch
- 22:53Speaker 1: player of the year. Fourth quarter is his time, all
- 22:56Speaker 1: that shit.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think there's something to that, right? Yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 2: But you can get this going early. He didn't take
- 23:03Speaker 2: 31 shots because he shot 20 of them in the
- 23:06Speaker 2: last two minutes.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Right?
- 23:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Let him rack those shots up. That is your time.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I want to make another point right quick before we
- 23:16Speaker 2: go into a break about Jalen Brunson and part of
- 23:20Speaker 2: the affection that I think exists for him in New York.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And it's big. We can do a whole pot on this.
- 23:25Speaker 2: We could, we could, but I have been meaning to
- 23:29Speaker 2: make this point for a while. And we can make
- 23:32Speaker 2: a social video out of this, right? If you want,
- 23:34Speaker 2: I'm kind of proud of myself here. A lot of
- 23:37Speaker 2: pushback against Becky Hammond for her saying that Jalen Brunson
- 23:40Speaker 2: is too small to be the best player on a
- 23:43Speaker 2: championship team. And I'd love for her to say, go
- 23:45Speaker 2: prove me wrong. still have your opportunity. But it's been
- 23:48Speaker 2: amazing to be how many people have pushed back against
- 23:51Speaker 2: that point, given that that is conventional NBA wisdom and
- 23:54Speaker 2: NBA wisdom that is borne out by fact, right? Like,
- 23:58Speaker 2: we've seen this. And I've realized something that we need
- 24:02Speaker 2: to start doing, which is every time somebody gets mad
- 24:05Speaker 2: at you questioning whether Jalen Brunson is big enough to
- 24:07Speaker 2: be your best player on a championship team, you should
- 24:10Speaker 2: not be allowed to answer that question without saying how
- 24:12Speaker 2: tall you are. Like, All you 5'8 motherfuckers out here,
- 24:17Speaker 2: and they done told you, and by they I mean she,
- 24:20Speaker 2: that you ain't tall enough to ride the ride. I
- 24:22Speaker 2: understand that you want to put on your cape for
- 24:24Speaker 2: what is the 5'8 of basketball, which is 6'2, right? Like,
- 24:28Speaker 2: I get you. And you're like, yeah, I know, I know.
- 24:30Speaker 2: You average height for an American male. I hear you.
- 24:33Speaker 2: But I feel like what has happened here is all
- 24:35Speaker 2: those guys, right? All them cats wearing that size medium
- 24:39Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson jersey that they went and bought from the
- 24:41Speaker 2: NBA store. They're the ones that pushed back. And you
- 24:44Speaker 2: know what? It's a lot more 5'8 in this world
- 24:47Speaker 2: than 6'2. You know what I'm saying? And New York
- 24:49Speaker 2: got a lot of 5'8. I'd be out here in
- 24:51Speaker 2: these streets. Y'all there, right? It ain't like when I
- 24:54Speaker 2: was in some of these countries where I'm like, I
- 24:56Speaker 2: think I'm the tallest person here. It's not that in
- 24:58Speaker 2: New York. But 5'8s, they got a disproportionate amount of power.
- 25:02Speaker 2: And I think that they the ones that really, they
- 25:05Speaker 2: love this for Jalen Brunson and they push back on
- 25:07Speaker 2: any criticism that has to do with the fact that
- 25:09Speaker 2: he's simply not very tall. That is a good social
- 25:13Speaker 2: media video. That'll do numbers for you. Let me tell
- 25:17Speaker 2: you something. I don't like when we use those videos
- 25:20Speaker 2: to antagonize most people. But the little homies? Yeah, you
- 25:24Speaker 2: like that. I live for that. Yeah, you do. I
- 25:27Speaker 2: live for that. I'll take all you little... I'll take
- 25:28Speaker 2: y'all all to the post after this.
- 25:32Speaker 1: It is a unique combination of he's a little guy,
- 25:37Speaker 1: he's fearless, and he took less money for the team.
- 25:41Speaker 2: He did. He did.
- 25:43Speaker 1: People love he took less money for the team.
- 25:46Speaker 2: How much did he take?
- 25:48Speaker 1: He's like, well, it was still like $ 170 million. But
- 25:53Speaker 1: he took less money.
- 25:54Speaker 2: He's a little guy who took less money.
- 25:56Speaker 1: And he balls out of the fourth quarter.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Dirk giving Mark Cuban all that money for no goddamn reason.
- 26:02Speaker 2: He got no ROI on his give money back. We
- 26:07Speaker 2: eat that shit up, man. And I mean.
- 26:11Speaker 4: And I guess it.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Might win him a title. It might end up winning
- 26:14Speaker 1: him a title. It checks all of the boxes of
- 26:18Speaker 1: the beloved. I live in suburban New York. There's a
- 26:22Speaker 1: lot of kids at my kid's school with size small
- 26:25Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson. Oh, yeah.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Popular. Oh, man. You're out there near the facility. Oh, yeah.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Jalen Brunson, move to my town.
- 26:36Speaker 6: Jalen Brunson, very popular at the local bagel store. He
- 26:42Speaker 6: is very popular. Mom teaching a workout class with all
- 26:46Speaker 6: the other moms out here.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Like, yeah, it is a... I am into it.
- 26:50Speaker 1: But again, I was curious. It's like LeBron James, Steph Curry,
- 26:54Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson for national jersey sales. Like, he is a
- 26:58Speaker 1: wildly popular figure in the NBA arenas.
- 27:01Speaker 2: I mean... Think about what it would have been for
- 27:04Speaker 2: Melo if he had shown up and this is what
- 27:06Speaker 2: it started being. You know what I'm saying? He has
- 27:10Speaker 2: fulfilled the promise. All these free agents, they always wanted
- 27:14Speaker 2: that they were never actually going to get. The realistic
- 27:19Speaker 2: one was this one. Now, never mind the fact that
- 27:22Speaker 2: they made his dad an assistant coach. I still think
- 27:24Speaker 2: that shit is weird. Oh, well, I mean, the whole.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Thing, Leon Rose and Worldwide West and Rick Bunsen, and
- 27:31Speaker 1: it's just CAA running the Knicks. Yeah, dude, it is
- 27:35Speaker 1: a singular. None of their starters were drafted by the Knicks.
- 27:40Speaker 2: That's true.
- 27:40Speaker 1: It is a very oddly constructed organization, top to bottom.
- 27:45Speaker 1: But hey, man, I will also say this.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Worldwide West NBA champ would be the completion of one
- 27:52Speaker 2: of the, the Forrest Gump story of all of them.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Like we're beyond the point where William Wesley is like
- 27:58Speaker 2: this internet legend, right? Henry Abbott's great white whale or anything.
- 28:02Speaker 2: This dude has been a little bit of everywhere for
- 28:05Speaker 2: a zillion different reasons. And now they, they may be
- 28:10Speaker 2: putting together a champion. Wow.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I can't believe it. I, and I mean, I doubted them.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I mean, listen, man, we don't have to go all
- 28:20Speaker 1: through it again. We've discussed my James Harden mistakes. I
- 28:24Speaker 1: picked the Cavs over the Knicks. I picked the Hawks
- 28:27Speaker 1: over the Knicks. That was also preposterous. I thought it
- 28:32Speaker 1: was insane to fire Tibbs for Mike Brown. I said
- 28:36Speaker 1: you cannot win with Brunson and Cat on the floor
- 28:39Speaker 1: at the same time because the two best players can't
- 28:41Speaker 1: be in front of liabilities. If they win this title...
- 28:46Speaker 1: I think it will be the most wrong I've ever
- 28:49Speaker 1: been start to finish about a team in any sport.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Well, to be fair, Carl Childs is no longer a
- 28:54Speaker 2: defensive liability. No, I know. That's an important part. It's
- 28:59Speaker 2: like when Josh Allen got good. Don't blame me. If
- 29:02Speaker 2: he had been doing this shit the whole time, I
- 29:03Speaker 2: would have been singing a completely different tune.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I agree, but you've been on the internet. I know.
- 29:09Speaker 2: That's not how it works.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I can't just be like, I got new information. He's
- 29:14Speaker 1: trying now.
- 29:15Speaker 2: They don't care. it does wow what a time man
- 29:18Speaker 2: uh but coming up next i want to ask danny
- 29:20Speaker 2: uh one last question about the knicks before i ask
- 29:23Speaker 2: i think the kind of question that he lives for
- 29:25Speaker 2: whether or not russell wilson is a hall of famer
- 29:27Speaker 2: oh boy new york the wait is over the knicks

- 33:15Speaker 2: Two in August. My good buddy, Peter. Peter does the

- 33:22Speaker 2: a junior in high school. That's now 21 years that
- 33:25Speaker 2: I know Peter. Peter is the biggest Knicks fan I know.
- 33:29Speaker 2: And I have to read to you guys a couple
- 33:31Speaker 2: of texts that I got from Sneaky Pete during the game.
- 33:36Speaker 2: One of my favorites. This is maybe one of my
- 33:39Speaker 2: favorite texts anybody has ever sent me. And this was
- 33:43Speaker 2: an hour into or about an hour out of the
- 33:48Speaker 2: first half. You know, I never had this level of
- 33:51Speaker 2: stress when I was waiting on the ping pong balls
- 33:53Speaker 2: to go our way. But I will also send you
- 33:59Speaker 2: the last text that he sent me at 1223 a.m.
- 34:02Speaker 2: that said, and I quote, give my boy cat his flowers.
- 34:06Speaker 2: He had with me looking like Chet. Knicks fans, ladies
- 34:10Speaker 2: and gentlemen, Knicks fans. I've watched them be so cool
- 34:14Speaker 2: about this and just be happy with everything they have
- 34:17Speaker 2: at every step of the way. Like the Knicks really
- 34:19Speaker 2: battered them into submission. I watched them, you know, and
- 34:22Speaker 2: I think they've been good about this. And I really
- 34:24Speaker 2: just can't explain to people how happy they are here, right?
- 34:27Speaker 2: Like I kind of, I avoid watch party stuff for
- 34:29Speaker 2: a couple of reasons. One, after what I've done for
- 34:33Speaker 2: a living for the last 15 or 20 years, watching
- 34:35Speaker 2: games with the general population, you kind of have to
- 34:37Speaker 2: opt out of it, Parkins. I imagine that you could
- 34:39Speaker 2: also bounce for me on this one. I love my basement, dude. Yeah,
- 34:42Speaker 2: that's why we have to go to Nick's house if
- 34:44Speaker 2: we want to go watch games around. We meet at
- 34:46Speaker 2: Nick's for football. Yeah, we can't do this around the
- 34:48Speaker 2: Gen Pop. It's not a great idea, right? That's number one.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Number two, the same reason I'm not going to these
- 34:54Speaker 2: Jay-Z concerts. I feel like this is for people who
- 34:56Speaker 2: love this, right? And I simply am happy for you guys.
- 35:01Speaker 2: But man, they had a watch party at Central Park
- 35:05Speaker 2: on Wednesday night. And I'm kind of, and look, the
- 35:08Speaker 2: news was interviewing some people there. And I'll just tell you,
- 35:12Speaker 2: the talent wasn't just on the basketball court, brother. I'm
- 35:14Speaker 2: kind of, I'm kind of tempted to go check it
- 35:17Speaker 2: out because everybody is so happy here.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Yeah. It's a, you know, New York is an amazing place.
- 35:24Speaker 1: I was, I was walking, I was walking to work yesterday.
- 35:28Speaker 1: I was taping an interview with our buddy Carrington Harrison
- 35:31Speaker 1: in Kansas city and Taraji B. Henson walked right past
- 35:34Speaker 1: me and we brushed shoulders. Like it is just like,
- 35:35Speaker 1: you never, know what you're gonna see.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yeah i walked past michael imperioli on broadway on the
- 35:40Speaker 2: upper west side the other day just walking to the
- 35:42Speaker 2: i was walking to the train station.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Yeah it's just just new york like the world cup
- 35:47Speaker 1: is coming here it's like you don't really think a
- 35:50Speaker 1: president can be in town i walk through the theater
- 35:52Speaker 1: district and it's like oh george clooney has a show
- 35:55Speaker 1: there denzel has a show there it's like you don't
- 35:57Speaker 1: really notice anything because it's so big there's so many people.
- 35:59Speaker 2: It's kind of like vegas where the cab driver's like
- 36:01Speaker 2: so what's the event this week right exactly nba summer
- 36:04Speaker 2: league oh okay Yeah, great. You're in town.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Or it could have been a convention for arms dealers.
- 36:09Speaker 2: And there's really no difference. Not this. Think of the things.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I've been here for a Yankees World Series, the World Cup,
- 36:21Speaker 1: Trump being around.
- 36:23Speaker 2: I've been here for some things. It's New York. You're
- 36:25Speaker 2: always here for some things.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Dude, you notice when the Knicks are good, whether it's
- 36:29Speaker 1: the flags at the bars, the specials at the bars.
- 36:31Speaker 2: The gear that people are wearing.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Yeah. It's a unifying thing because, like, Yankees and Mets
- 36:37Speaker 1: split the town. Giants and Jets split the town. The
- 36:40Speaker 1: Nets don't split anything.
- 36:41Speaker 2: No, they don't. No, they don't.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I was at a charity poker thing the other night.
- 36:45Speaker 1: The guy was like, I do events for Barclays. I
- 36:47Speaker 1: was like, I haven't been.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I hear it's awesome. I would love... But, like, you
- 36:50Speaker 2: know what I mean? It's just, it's not the same draw.
- 36:53Speaker 2: And so.
- 36:54Speaker 1: it's a cool thing to see a city so unified
- 36:57Speaker 1: behind the NBA, even if no Knicks fan wants me
- 36:59Speaker 1: at any watch party based on my mentions.
- 37:02Speaker 2: And it's so interesting, like the vibe around Madison square garden,
- 37:06Speaker 2: where there is a playoff game going on. And, you know,
- 37:08Speaker 2: for so long, they weren't playing any of those. And
- 37:12Speaker 2: I don't want to insult any of the hockey fans,
- 37:13Speaker 2: but like when the Rangers are in the playoffs and
- 37:16Speaker 2: you go down by Madison square garden, they're all there. Right. Like,
- 37:19Speaker 2: and they all got on their Rangers gear. It's obvious
- 37:21Speaker 2: that it's a thing, but, Have you ever been to
- 37:24Speaker 2: a club that like on Friday night was college night,
- 37:28Speaker 2: but then you pull up on Saturday night and it's
- 37:30Speaker 2: gay night? Okay. That's what it feels like when the
- 37:34Speaker 2: Rangers are playing in Madison Square Garden. It's like, wow,
- 37:38Speaker 2: something feels different about this. And the difference is everything, right? Like,
- 37:42Speaker 2: it's like, oh, this is what we're doing. It just doesn't, like,
- 37:45Speaker 2: heteronormativity in New York City is the Knicks, right? Like,
- 37:50Speaker 2: that's the normal state of affairs. Otherwise, you're over there like, wow,
- 37:53Speaker 2: why are they wearing long-sleeve shirts? I don't really understand.
- 37:57Speaker 1: That's incredible. And the other thing, too.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Knicks fans take a certain amount of pride in the
- 38:05Speaker 1: price point to get into the garden. And I'm like,
- 38:09Speaker 1: you're happy that it's $ 4, 500 to sit up top.
- 38:13Speaker 2: There's just so many like, but they're like, yeah, I mean,
- 38:15Speaker 2: it's the Knicks. What do you mean? That's not an
- 38:18Speaker 2: explanation for.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Well, yeah, no, because they do like these man on
- 38:23Speaker 1: the street pieces on every local. How much did you
- 38:25Speaker 1: pay for tickets? And people are just proud to be
- 38:27Speaker 1: like nine grand. Like that is, It is completely insane,
- 38:31Speaker 1: and it's in their marrow.
- 38:34Speaker 4: Yes.
- 38:34Speaker 2: It's a different thing. I'll give Knicks fans this, too,
- 38:37Speaker 2: and this is the one thing about their famous fans.
- 38:40Speaker 2: They act like regular people.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Oh, dude, Ben Stiller has sent me like four different,
- 38:46Speaker 1: five different tweets during these playoffs clowning me for my
- 38:50Speaker 1: takes to the point that if the Knicks win this title,
- 38:53Speaker 1: I have to spend a literal night in the museum.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Yo, it's so funny. He follows me, but he's never
- 38:58Speaker 2: hit me up. Like the guys that just send texts
- 39:01Speaker 2: and tweets to the random media members. I always feel
- 39:04Speaker 2: so offended. Like, what am I doing wrong? Like Kevin
- 39:06Speaker 2: Durant has never berated me in my DMS, right? Ben Stiller.
- 39:10Speaker 2: He doesn't send me any of the stuff. This was dude.
- 39:12Speaker 1: And like, I have a, huge Ben Stiller fan so
- 39:16Speaker 1: I was like this is the coolest like Nick was
- 39:18Speaker 1: like where does it rank for you that one of
- 39:21Speaker 1: your comedy heroes responded to you because he clowned one
- 39:25Speaker 1: of your awful takes I'm like it's probably a little
- 39:27Speaker 1: too high I enjoyed it probably a little too much
- 39:30Speaker 1: uh but yeah i don't know what i was doing
- 39:32Speaker 1: right or in this case very very wrong about the
- 39:35Speaker 1: knicks but like sneaky top x fan base in all
- 39:42Speaker 1: the sports not because of the celebrity thing but like
- 39:44Speaker 1: They just take over road arenas.
- 39:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Again, that goes back to money. Well, I think it
- 39:51Speaker 2: goes back less to money than a couple of things. One,
- 39:53Speaker 2: a bunch of New Yorkers everywhere, right? Like they turn
- 39:55Speaker 2: up there. Number two, it's not so much the money
- 39:59Speaker 2: that they have as much as it is the money
- 40:02Speaker 2: it costs to go to Madison Square Garden. Therefore, you
- 40:06Speaker 2: can save money by jumping on the Acela and going
- 40:10Speaker 2: to Philadelphia and and watching this game, right? From different
- 40:14Speaker 2: parts of the city, it is easier, like, it is
- 40:17Speaker 2: easier for me to get to Philadelphia from my house
- 40:21Speaker 2: than I feel like it is to get to, like,
- 40:23Speaker 2: deep Brooklyn, for example. Yeah, no doubt.
- 40:26Speaker 1: I mean, Steph wants to go to World Cup games,
- 40:28Speaker 1: and I'm like, we should probably drive to Philly because
- 40:33Speaker 1: you literally can't drive to MetLife. That's the only World
- 40:36Speaker 1: Cup venue they're not selling parking for.
- 40:38Speaker 2: She's like, what?
- 40:38Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, we would need to go into the city,
- 40:41Speaker 1: and go to Penn Station, which is not the train
- 40:44Speaker 1: station that we come into from Westchester, it would be
- 40:46Speaker 1: a logistical nightmare.
- 40:48Speaker 2: But, yeah, man, these... But I saw John Turturro last night.
- 40:52Speaker 2: You know, Nish from.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Rounders is just in, like, the 10th row in San Antonio.
- 40:58Speaker 1: He clearly just bought those tickets.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Yes.
- 41:01Speaker 2: They're great fans, man. They really are. They are. They just.
- 41:06Speaker 2: What's going to happen if they win though? Because I
- 41:08Speaker 2: found they haven't been annoying lately. I have found them
- 41:11Speaker 2: to be charming. I used to find them to be annoying.
- 41:14Speaker 2: I found that hasn't been the case. I don't know
- 41:16Speaker 2: what happens if they have a ring.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Listen, they'll probably be annoying, but it's, I, while I
- 41:25Speaker 1: have picked against them every step of the way, I am, I'm,
- 41:30Speaker 1: I love sports, man. Like 15, 52, 53 years without
- 41:34Speaker 1: a ring and an awesome fan base in a huge
- 41:36Speaker 1: city that reps like this. And to your point, like
- 41:39Speaker 1: clearly gives a damn. Like they're not like, it's not
- 41:42Speaker 1: like a Dodger fan. They're not like showing up late
- 41:44Speaker 1: and leaving early. Like they're, they're real fans. So yeah, I'm, I'm,
- 41:48Speaker 1: I'm happy for them.
- 41:49Speaker 2: We're going to see game two is going to be
- 41:51Speaker 2: something like all the adjustments will come. I think by
- 41:53Speaker 2: the time, yeah, the next show we'll do here will
- 41:56Speaker 2: be right before game three. Um, So this is going
- 42:01Speaker 2: to be something.
- 42:01Speaker 1: You're going to have to listen to that one early
- 42:03Speaker 1: because game three. I mean, what do you think that
- 42:07Speaker 1: atmosphere is going to be like?
- 42:09Speaker 2: Dude, I hate that you live so far because otherwise
- 42:12Speaker 2: I'd be like, yo, let's just go hang out. around
- 42:15Speaker 2: the arena from like i mean i don't it's it's
- 42:17Speaker 2: on a monday i'm in the city i can yeah
- 42:19Speaker 2: i feel like from like okay because you got off
- 42:20Speaker 2: working like six yeah i feel like it like like
- 42:23Speaker 2: from like six to seven or 7 30 we should
- 42:26Speaker 2: just go post up around 33rd street on 7th avenue
- 42:30Speaker 2: and just see the people.
- 42:31Speaker 1: I'm down yeah i'm available uh yeah and then listen
- 42:36Speaker 1: i got listen man i got I'm not on the
- 42:39Speaker 1: air until 5 p.m., so I'll come people watch with
- 42:43Speaker 1: you and then watch Game 3 somewhere.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Let's do it. Yeah, yeah, I figured it out. You
- 42:48Speaker 2: know we're not watching Game 3 amongst the populace, right? No, no.
- 42:52Speaker 2: We will talk about it.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Go to your place, go to Nick's, wherever. It's a
- 42:57Speaker 1: social experiment, what's going to be happening in this city.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I am not terribly interested in going outside of Madison
- 43:05Speaker 1: Square Garden after the games, though.
- 43:07Speaker 6: No.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Know that i am not before the games i'm fine
- 43:12Speaker 1: after the games that's for the young.
- 43:13Speaker 2: People yo let me tell you what i saw the
- 43:15Speaker 2: news last night after uh game one so i kept
- 43:18Speaker 2: it all on uh channel seven right and you know
- 43:22Speaker 2: they got the people sometimes it's interesting to remember that
- 43:25Speaker 2: new york is just like everybody else which is to
- 43:27Speaker 2: say something like this happens the local news sends people
- 43:30Speaker 2: to locations just to get shots of fans and hey
- 43:32Speaker 2: make noise when the camera comes on or whatever right
- 43:35Speaker 2: So they do that. And it's a middle aged black dude,
- 43:38Speaker 2: gray hair. I think he's probably in his early 50s,
- 43:40Speaker 2: if I had to guess. And he's down there and
- 43:44Speaker 2: he's got his shot with his Knicks fans. It's like
- 43:46Speaker 2: a couple of cats and yarmulkes. You know what I'm saying?
- 43:48Speaker 2: Like it's the it's a full gamut of Knicks fans
- 43:52Speaker 2: who would go to San Antonio for this game. but
- 43:55Speaker 2: it's two Spurs fans who are drunk and refuse to
- 43:58Speaker 2: get out of the shot. They're just standing there being jerks.
- 44:01Speaker 2: They're on TV. Yeah, right. Not even TV that they're
- 44:04Speaker 2: going to watch, right? It's TV in New York City.
- 44:08Speaker 2: And so one of them, the guy's like, hey, man,
- 44:09Speaker 2: come on, man, don't do that, man. Like the reporter
- 44:11Speaker 2: is hitting them with real old black man. Hey, come on, man.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Get out of get out of the way, man. Another
- 44:17Speaker 2: one gets out there. He's flipping the bird while he's
- 44:20Speaker 2: on the screen. And the reporter's like, hey, what are
- 44:23Speaker 2: you doing that for, man? What are you doing that for?
- 44:24Speaker 1: I'm just trying to work.
- 44:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Yeah. To try to push him off. And then they
- 44:27Speaker 2: have to, like, cut it and then go back because
- 44:29Speaker 2: it was just it had just gotten to be so
- 44:31Speaker 2: ridiculous out there. But I was just like, oh, yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 2: like these are the things that happen. And it's funny
- 44:36Speaker 2: because you live in New York long enough. You don't
- 44:39Speaker 2: put up with nothing. I had to cut somebody out
- 44:41Speaker 2: at a taco spot on a Tuesday night. What happened?
- 44:48Speaker 2: The details aren't that important. Well, I will tell you
- 44:53Speaker 2: the details after the show. But the bottom line was
- 44:58Speaker 2: the dude was accusing me of doing something that I
- 45:02Speaker 2: wasn't doing.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:04Speaker 2: And he was asking me to do something. He felt
- 45:07Speaker 2: like he felt like something was happening that was making
- 45:09Speaker 2: his ambiance uncomfortable, which I understood. And so he was
- 45:13Speaker 2: asking me to do something that I was actually in
- 45:15Speaker 2: the process of doing. And he says, hey, could you
- 45:19Speaker 2: da da da? And I say to him, yeah, that's
- 45:23Speaker 2: what I'm working on right now. And as I'm trying
- 45:25Speaker 2: to tell him, this is what I'm working on right now.
- 45:27Speaker 2: He keeps trying to argue with me. And I'm like, brother,
- 45:31Speaker 2: we on the same team. I'm trying to, you know,
- 45:34Speaker 2: and then he's like, well, you must have been doing
- 45:36Speaker 2: one or two things. I was like, actually, I didn't
- 45:38Speaker 2: do either of those things. And these people sitting here
- 45:40Speaker 2: will vouch for Oh, boy.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:42Speaker 2: And he keeps going and he's there with his woman
- 45:45Speaker 2: and he keeps saying, you know, talking back to me.
- 45:46Speaker 2: I'm like, my man, I told you I'm working on
- 45:51Speaker 2: this and I didn't do what you said. You got
- 45:54Speaker 2: that wrong. It's cool. Just own it. How did I
- 45:59Speaker 2: get there? My man.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Yeah, people don't like owning being wrong.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, I'm calling him my man over
- 46:06Speaker 2: and over again. Like that is a sign. If I
- 46:08Speaker 2: got to keep calling you my man, that's me self-regulating, right?
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yeah, no doubt.
- 46:11Speaker 2: And I keep going with it. And his woman, now
- 46:13Speaker 2: she's interjecting. Oh, boy. And I'm like, hey, I can
- 46:17Speaker 2: talk to you, okay? And she says what it is.
- 46:19Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, I get you. My frustration here is
- 46:22Speaker 2: that I was working on what he was talking about.
- 46:26Speaker 2: And he just couldn't not give me time to even
- 46:29Speaker 2: tell him that I was working on it versus, you know,
- 46:32Speaker 2: any of these things. And it turned out I was
- 46:35Speaker 2: doing exactly what he wanted me to do. And I
- 46:38Speaker 2: looked dead at the dude and I said, and if
- 46:41Speaker 2: you had just shut the fuck up. There it.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Is.
- 46:46Speaker 2: It would have gotten done. I don't know if I
- 46:51Speaker 2: have ever talked to a stranger like that under those circumstances.
- 46:56Speaker 2: I was waiting for the custom out part and I
- 46:58Speaker 2: was like, there it is. Yeah, I'm at a table
- 47:00Speaker 2: with three women, by the way, none of which I
- 47:02Speaker 2: am dating or involved with in any sort of way, right?
- 47:05Speaker 2: But I'm there with, and they realize that I'm not
- 47:08Speaker 2: wrong here. Of course. But I had to hit them with,
- 47:10Speaker 2: if you would just shut the fuck up, then this
- 47:12Speaker 2: would have been taken care of. Then I look back
- 47:15Speaker 2: at his woman and I was like, hey, enjoy your tacos.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Hope you guys have a really nice day. And then
- 47:20Speaker 2: go back and then he ain't have nothing else to
- 47:21Speaker 2: say because when he got to shut the fuck up,
- 47:23Speaker 2: you know what he did? The fuck was up shut.
- 47:26Speaker 2: That's what happened.
- 47:28Speaker 1: You know, you're a non-confrontational individual.
- 47:33Speaker 2: No, I'm a nice guy.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 2: It's healthy to have one of those every so often. Yeah.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Maybe not the shut the fuck up level, but like
- 47:43Speaker 1: a little bit like sometimes people just need to be checked.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Yes.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Hey, hey, hey.
- 47:50Speaker 1: You're over that line. Step back over the side of
- 47:52Speaker 1: the line.
- 47:52Speaker 2: So New York has an interesting balance to me, right?
- 47:55Speaker 2: And an interesting balance in the sense that part of
- 47:58Speaker 2: living in New York is putting up with inconsiderate people
- 48:02Speaker 2: is just kind of what it is, right? Like, you
- 48:03Speaker 2: remember when that white man killed that Michael Jackson impersonator
- 48:06Speaker 2: or the dude that was on the train? Yeah. This
- 48:09Speaker 2: city's not for you, man. Like, and I'm talking about
- 48:12Speaker 2: the dude that killed him. Like, if you can't handle
- 48:14Speaker 2: a Michael Jackson impersonator, this is just not the city
- 48:17Speaker 2: for you. Any other city, I would get it if
- 48:19Speaker 2: you called a manager. We don't call the managers. over
- 48:22Speaker 2: stuff like this, right? Like we get it. But the
- 48:26Speaker 2: second it feels like someone rather than simply being inconsiderate
- 48:30Speaker 2: is being disrespectful to you, that's when it flips. People
- 48:34Speaker 2: tolerate a great deal off of you. You can play
- 48:37Speaker 2: your music on the subway with no headphones. You can
- 48:40Speaker 2: get up with your partner and start break dancing. We'll
- 48:43Speaker 2: live with it all. But if you lean on me
- 48:46Speaker 2: too much, hey man, get the fuck off of me, dawg.
- 48:49Speaker 1: And I've seen New Yorkers also come to the defense
- 48:52Speaker 1: of people. Like if the break dancer was like bumping
- 48:55Speaker 1: into an old woman, like three people will come over
- 48:58Speaker 1: and be like, Hey man, like, you know, they are
- 49:01Speaker 1: inconsiderate until there is someone to be considerate on the
- 49:05Speaker 1: behalf of, and they'll normally do a pretty good job.
- 49:07Speaker 2: So the city regulates itself. And the threshold for this
- 49:11Speaker 2: becoming a fight is very high. Oh yeah. The threshold
- 49:15Speaker 2: for becoming a fight is much lower in other places.
- 49:20Speaker 1: No, New Yorkers have a high tolerance for nonsense and
- 49:26Speaker 1: then a willingness to rally to a cause.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Yes. I would say. Voltron is always this close. Yeah, absolutely.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Because everyone's doing their own thing.
- 49:40Speaker 1: While simultaneously aware of everything.
- 49:42Speaker 2: Yes.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Cause you're, cause it's like people are comparing themselves to
- 49:45Speaker 1: other people. How nice is your watch?
- 49:46Speaker 2: How much money do you have?
- 49:48Speaker 1: Is this person going to potentially fight me or stab
- 49:50Speaker 1: me or say, or try to sell me something. So
- 49:53Speaker 1: like you're in your own thing, but then you're aware
- 49:54Speaker 1: of everything.
- 49:55Speaker 2: So yeah, the, the, the hive can move pretty quickly.
- 49:57Speaker 1: It's a fat, it's a, it's an ecosystem of a place.
- 49:59Speaker 2: It really is. Okay.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Fast. Cause I know you got a hard out. No,
- 50:03Speaker 2: I mean, I got a few minutes. Okay. Russell Wilson
- 50:06Speaker 2: just retired. He's going to be on CBS. Um, None
- 50:09Speaker 2: of us have any idea how that's going to go.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Anything is on the board with that guy. Is Russell
- 50:15Speaker 2: Wilson a Hall of Famer to you? He is not.
- 50:19Speaker 1: And I know, I think I remember you are on
- 50:23Speaker 1: the other side of that. I am on the other
- 50:24Speaker 1: side of things.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Let me ask this question before I ask why is
- 50:28Speaker 2: he not a Hall of Famer. I can give you
- 50:30Speaker 2: the case, but go ahead. Do you have Matthew Stafford
- 50:33Speaker 2: as a Hall of Famer? I do. I'm just trying
- 50:37Speaker 2: to figure out all those years when Matthew Stafford was
- 50:40Speaker 2: not being voted to Pro Bowls and Russell Wilson was,
- 50:43Speaker 2: what was happening that all that matters is the last
- 50:47Speaker 2: five years?
- 50:47Speaker 1: I think that that is totally fair. I do think
- 50:50Speaker 1: the counting stats for Stafford outweigh it. I don't have
- 50:54Speaker 1: Stafford's in front of me. I don't give a shit
- 50:57Speaker 1: about Pro Bowls. Russell Wilson made a Pro Bowl two
- 51:00Speaker 1: years ago when he had 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Yes, but even with the bar being on the floor,
- 51:08Speaker 2: they've only sent Matthew Stafford there three times.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Fair enough. When I hear Russell Wilson's Hall of Fame case,
- 51:19Speaker 1: too often I hear 10-time Pro Bowler, and Walter Payton
- 51:24Speaker 1: Man of the Year.
- 51:25Speaker 2: Yeah, anybody saying that. And I just, I'm like, I don't.
- 51:29Speaker 4: I don't care about, like, the Walter Payton Man of
- 51:31Speaker 4: the Year, like, listen, I'm a Chicagoan, I obviously, like,
- 51:34Speaker 4: respect the Walter Payton story, whatever, but, like, I don't
- 51:37Speaker 4: care about that for the Hall of Fame.
- 51:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 51:40Speaker 1: And then, you know, he was, he was, what, one
- 51:43Speaker 1: second team All-Pro, and I, so I just, I never
- 51:47Speaker 1: looked at him as the, and.
- 51:49Speaker 2: In his Super Bowl.
- 51:51Speaker 1: He had, I believe, three passing touchdowns in three games
- 51:54Speaker 1: and one rushing touchdown. It wasn't because he was some
- 51:57Speaker 1: sort of otherworldly playoff performer. I don't even know that
- 52:00Speaker 1: you could really make an Eli Manning-ish case for him.
- 52:03Speaker 1: I just look at him as being a consistently good
- 52:08Speaker 1: to very good player.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Who won early.
- 52:11Speaker 1: And I can't really explain the total number of Pro
- 52:15Speaker 1: Bowl things. but I just feel like I saw Matt
- 52:17Speaker 1: Castle and Mitch Trubisky make a pro bowl. And I
- 52:19Speaker 1: saw Russell Wilson do it with 16 touchdowns and 11 picks.
- 52:23Speaker 1: So I don't particularly care that he made double digit
- 52:25Speaker 1: of them.
- 52:25Speaker 2: And so that's the thing with me is I don't
- 52:27Speaker 2: care that he made double digit of them necessarily. Although
- 52:29Speaker 2: 10 is a really high number. Like the pro bowls
- 52:33Speaker 2: ain't getting Jason Whitten in the hall of fame with me.
- 52:35Speaker 2: So I understand it. It is interesting that you're like
- 52:38Speaker 2: Russell Wilson did it very early. And the thing with
- 52:41Speaker 2: Stafford is it's kind of the same, except he's doing
- 52:44Speaker 2: it very late. Right? Like, So another example or point
- 52:48Speaker 2: to make on this, Matthew Stafford has, and this would
- 52:51Speaker 2: shock people, four seasons with 30 or more touchdowns. Russell
- 52:54Speaker 2: Wilson has five. Like the counting stats for Stafford are
- 52:59Speaker 2: overwhelming in large part because of having a buttload of attempts.
- 53:03Speaker 2: But somewhere along the way, we just decided Matthew Stafford
- 53:05Speaker 2: was a Hall of Famer and then it went bad
- 53:07Speaker 2: for Russell Wilson and we decided he's not. Like, well,
- 53:09Speaker 2: Russell reminds me of to a degree, though they're not
- 53:11Speaker 2: analogous players completely. is Andrew Jones fell off the cliff
- 53:15Speaker 2: at about 31 or 32 in baseball, and he finally
- 53:18Speaker 2: made it in, but then being the greatest center fielder
- 53:20Speaker 2: of all time and having 400 home runs somehow didn't
- 53:23Speaker 2: matter because what we saw at the end is what
- 53:26Speaker 2: marred it. And I think that's what's happened to Russell Wilson,
- 53:30Speaker 2: and I don't believe you can play your way out
- 53:31Speaker 2: of a Hall of Fame. And I think that's a
- 53:34Speaker 2: demerit that he has received from a lot of people. Now,
- 53:37Speaker 2: I don't think he's an inner circle Hall of Famer.
- 53:39Speaker 2: I think that even if he got in, he'd be
- 53:41Speaker 2: a guy that's going to need to wait and we
- 53:43Speaker 2: get some votes. Like, Stafford's going to have to wait
- 53:45Speaker 2: for some votes. Although I think people have just decided
- 53:48Speaker 2: that they're going to do this shit. I just can't.
- 53:52Speaker 1: So you say attempts, like, isn't there something to the
- 53:55Speaker 1: trusting the talent to throw that?
- 53:57Speaker 2: I mean, Stafford has.
- 53:58Speaker 1: 64,000 career yards and 423 career touchdowns.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 54:04Speaker 1: 47,000 for Russ and 353. I mean, that is a
- 54:08Speaker 1: significant count. Call them counting stats, call them later on
- 54:12Speaker 1: the lines and it's garbage time yards. Like that, 17,000 yards,
- 54:16Speaker 1: it's significant.
- 54:17Speaker 2: I think there is something. Also, let's not forget Stafford
- 54:19Speaker 2: played three years longer. I do think that there is
- 54:23Speaker 2: something to that. I think the most interesting thing, by comparison,
- 54:26Speaker 2: if you're looking statistically, is that Matthew Stafford with that
- 54:29Speaker 2: big arm and everything else, 7.4 yards per attempt for
- 54:32Speaker 2: a career, and Russell Wilson, 7.7. The part where I
- 54:36Speaker 2: think that Russell does not get enough credit is that
- 54:39Speaker 2: I greatly value quarterbacks who get the ball down the field.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Stafford can do all the trick throws and everything else.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Russell can get the ball down the field. The other
- 54:46Speaker 2: problem with Russell obviously is the sacks. But Matthew Stafford
- 54:51Speaker 2: was also a guy at points that took a gazillion. Yes,
- 54:54Speaker 2: I'm bringing everything back to Stafford forever for those of
- 54:56Speaker 2: you who listen to this show.
- 54:57Speaker 1: I get it.
- 54:57Speaker 2: I've been doing this for a very long time. But
- 55:02Speaker 2: I wonder if... I think that a day will come
- 55:05Speaker 2: where Russell Wilson makes the Hall of Fame. I do
- 55:08Speaker 2: think a pile on began... that first year that he
- 55:11Speaker 2: got to Denver and he never recovered from it.
- 55:15Speaker 1: And don't, what do you put into the fact that,
- 55:17Speaker 1: and again, I only have a couple more, but like
- 55:20Speaker 1: some of his teammates openly say that he shouldn't be.
- 55:23Speaker 2: It's the wildest thing. It's the, it's the wildest thing, man.
- 55:28Speaker 2: I also wonder this too, man. I just wonder if
- 55:30Speaker 2: they hate him. Cause he got it. He pulled that
- 55:32Speaker 2: bad one to none of us ever thought he would. I, I, that.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Is on the board of possibilities. I have no, I
- 55:39Speaker 1: don't have a better theory than that. But it is
- 55:41Speaker 1: wild to see, like, Richard Sherman out there talking about him.
- 55:44Speaker 1: It's like, I don't know.
- 55:45Speaker 2: He was your quarterback when you won. Yeah, yeah. They
- 55:48Speaker 2: are being ridiculously unbiased. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, I don't
- 55:54Speaker 2: think he's going to be that unbiased about Cam Chancellor's
- 55:56Speaker 2: Hall of Fame case.
- 55:57Speaker 1: No.
- 55:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 55:59Speaker 1: So, like, that would be an amazing thing. Because I
- 56:02Speaker 1: am very skeptical of him as an analyst. But that
- 56:05Speaker 1: would be incredible if he just was, like, vengeful. and
- 56:08Speaker 1: he just came out and started talking bad about everyone
- 56:11Speaker 1: that had talked bad about him, that would be compelling theater.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Man, what a time, man. But hey, Danny Park, let's
- 56:16Speaker 2: check him out. First things first, FS1. And again, congratulations
- 56:20Speaker 2: to Danny Park. He's raised $ 800, 000. Was it Cubs for
- 56:23Speaker 2: the Cure? Yep, Cubs for a Cure, $ 805, 000.
- 56:26Speaker 1: Thank you for your financial support. Thank you for connecting
- 56:30Speaker 1: me with your buddy Mike Smith, who has become a
- 56:33Speaker 1: buddy of mine, who was fantastic during the broadcast. Thank
- 56:35Speaker 1: you for amplifying it. Really appreciate you, Bo. And yeah, man,
- 56:39Speaker 1: super successful. 750 last year, 540 the year before, 805
- 56:44Speaker 1: this year.
- 56:45Speaker 2: So, you know, we're growing this thing year by year.
- 56:47Speaker 2: I tell you this, I need to prepare in advance
- 56:48Speaker 2: for it, too, because like now I understand how things
- 56:50Speaker 2: go with rich people. Like I had planned to make
- 56:52Speaker 2: my donation and then I look up and Nick Wright
- 56:55Speaker 2: is giving you five thousand dollars. And I'm like, shit,
- 56:57Speaker 2: I got to keep up next year. I just I'm
- 56:59Speaker 2: not really prepared. to do anything like that you know
- 57:03Speaker 2: now granted no matter where no matter where we go
- 57:05Speaker 2: nick's gonna spend more money than me no doubt even
- 57:07Speaker 2: still like but the charity is like shit okay yeah
- 57:11Speaker 2: nick throws it around he's very generous and he knows
- 57:14Speaker 2: he's also paying a little bit of a best friend
- 57:16Speaker 2: tax there hey brother i appreciate you appreciate you bro
