- 0:00Now sure you are A sight is correct? That's right. I have a
- 0:04pH d in truthology from Christian Tech. Well a, Carl, I got
- 0:10a new hero. Yea. This will last about a day. Fourth Finger
- 0:14Discount, dude, Welcome to fourth Finger Discount, the podcast where we rarely,
- 0:34if ever take a four week holiday, but we've done it this time.
- 0:36But we're back now. I'm back from the UK, guys back from
- 0:39the United States, and we're here to review the second last episode of season
- 0:43seventeen of The Simpsons. It is the Monkey Suit. I am Dando and
- 0:46I am Guy aka a bear with pants on. And what Danna didn't point
- 0:52out is that, you know, normally podcasts, you know, buns that
- 0:55run smoothly and have all their ducks in a row, would have there for
- 0:59we holiday at the same time. But no, I took two and a
- 1:02half weeks off and went to the US, and then not long after I
- 1:06got back from there, Danno lit out to the UK. So it was
- 1:10a long hoss holiday for the both of us. But rest assured, we
- 1:12were thinking of you the whole time, even to the point where we did
- 1:18a little podcast in the middle of our breaks, didn't we We did,
- 1:21and you can find that available now on our Patreon channel. Basically, we
- 1:23just turned the mics and just had a bit of a catch up. I
- 1:26think at one point we're talking about our favorite shops on Packington Street just in
- 1:30Geln. We're just like, we're just catching up with it. We literally
- 1:32hadn't spoken a month because basically what happened was we recorded all the shows as
- 1:36many as we could in advance because we had our trip like planned a year
- 1:38out and like about and I was about six weeks before you and you're like,
- 1:42I'm going to America for two and a half weeks. I'm like,
- 1:44ah, fuck, okay, that's news to me. Thank you. It
- 1:49was news to me too, and then I was like, okay, cool,
- 1:53So a whole heap in the can. But we're back now, we're
- 1:55doing this. We're recording this on the thirtieth of August. This is going
- 1:57to be coming out on the thirty first, so we're gonna be keeping a
- 2:00fresh now. Also, we've got some updates for you guys. So whilst
- 2:04I was away, I did some sort of planning and things like that.
- 2:07First thing, foremost is we're going to be recording videos for every single four
- 2:10finger discount podcast we're doing now. So if you enjoy the show and you're
- 2:14going to watch us do it, you can watch it now on our YouTube
- 2:15channel. We can find a links that in the description of this podcast.
- 2:19Guys just moved his mic up in front of his face. Why have you
- 2:21done that? You've never ever ever done that in your life? Why are
- 2:23you doing it now? Do look at me? For years I've been trying
- 2:30to tell him put the microphone in his face, and he's like, I
- 2:31don't need to do it, don't need to. I say, the camera's
- 2:34on you, like, cover your face of the microphone. How does this
- 2:38look? And it sounds like I covered my face as well, So it's
- 2:40all good. It's all good. This you can watch all this happening now
- 2:44on our YouTube channel. Fund link in the description of this show. But
- 2:46also so you would be well aware that we do a show called Talking Signfeld
- 2:51and we will review the first three seasons of the show, and then we
- 2:54did the first episode of season four, The Trip, Part one, which
- 2:58has been available on a Padron for a while, and we took a bit
- 2:59of a break because it was just getting a bit much. You know,
- 3:00we're checking all this content for you guys, and it's just getting a bit
- 3:04overwhelming, and I thought, what something needs to take a break, and
- 3:07it was Talking Seinfeld. We also launched a show earlier in the year called
- 3:09Speaking of the Hill where we review every episode of King of the Hill.
- 3:14Now, if you did enjoy those two shows, we are starting them once
- 3:16again as of next week, right so every single month, and now I'm
- 3:20gonna get episodes are Speaking of the Hill and Talking Signfold, but they're going
- 3:23to be available on our Patreon. So if you want to get access to
- 3:25those shows now you still can you want to support the show. If you
- 3:29don't, that's perfectly fine as well. I'm sure there's plenty of other Speaking
- 3:31King of the Hill and Sinfold podcasts for you to think your ears and too.
- 3:34But if you want to hear a guy and Dando's Talking Seinfeld and Speaking
- 3:37of the Hill, and let's be honest, why wouldn't you Because they are
- 3:39great shows. They're available for just two dollars on our Patreon, So if
- 3:43you've got to spare two dollary dues in your pocket, think about it.
- 3:46Like some people would have even pick up two dollars if they found it on
- 3:49the ground, so it's all it is. It's just two dollars support the
- 3:52show and you get access to two really great podcasts, Talking Seinfeld and Speaking
- 3:54of the Hill. Plus also available on our Patreon is Tales of Drama,
- 4:00where we go back and revisit every episode of the show. Now, I've
- 4:03been contemplating do we sometimes do some of the newer episodes because they've just released
- 4:08new episodes of Futurama on Disney Plus and I've been really really enjoying them.
- 4:13I felt they've been getting better and better as the weeks go on. Episode
- 4:15six I watched last night and I've really really enjoyed it. So I'm thinking
- 4:19much shake things up here and there and throw out a couple of bonus reviews
- 4:23of current episodes, just to see how we're going. If you guys want
- 4:26to hear that, so let us know, Simpsons mailback at gmail dot com.
- 4:29But yes, Tales of Futurama, Speaking of the Hill, and Talking
- 4:32Sinfeld all now available on our Patreon, as well as movie reviews with the
- 4:36Movie Guys podcast and to get early and add free access to this show,
- 4:41as well as a bunch of other stuff as well. Prize drawers, the
- 4:43Facebook group, and so much more. So Yeah, enough sprukings. I
- 4:46just do one big spruk at the start here to let you guys know that
- 4:47if you want to hear more King of the Hill reviews, Sinfeld reviews,
- 4:50and Futurama that you finally want to our Patreon. All the links for those
- 4:54are in the description of this show as well. But anyway, we're here
- 4:56to talk about the monkey suit, aren't we miss the davis An episode that
- 5:00was touching a subject that was very, very interesting and touchy in a sense
- 5:04of evolution versus creationism, As I said you in the Citizens, So it's
- 5:09I thought they had it it quite well. What are your thoughts. I
- 5:12think they did handle it very well. They were quite diplomatic about a very,
- 5:15as you say, a hot button topic. Yeah, there was certainly
- 5:18a stage, and I think it's probably ongoing in American culture and maybe in
- 5:24societies around the world, but I think primarily America that's where we hear about
- 5:28it, the whole creationism versus evolution quote unquote debate. Yeah, it was
- 5:34very big and very big in schools for a while, and very big in
- 5:38certain states in America. So Yeah, the sentisens decided to take it on,
- 5:42and Yeah, as I said, they were very very diplomatic, very
- 5:45even handed, recognized the flaws and virtues of shall we say, both sides,
- 5:51and trying to come out with a result in a response that would balances
- 5:59please please everybody but more likely not offend anyone. Yeah. I thought it's
- 6:04clear that the Simpsons staff and the writer whose name escapes me just now,
- 6:09the Jay Stewart Burns was the right of this episode. It's clear that he
- 6:13was pro evolution, you know. Yeah, but I thought that he also
- 6:15did a good he positioned the episode in a way where they weren't just completely
- 6:19saying you're wrong for believing in guide and creationists, because they sort of made
- 6:25the people who are pro evolution a bit smarmy in this at times, don't
- 6:28you think. But there was that exhibit at the museum where it was like,
- 6:30you know, indisputable evidence of the dinosaur bones or something something that,
- 6:33you know, something like that. So I thought that they sort of he
- 6:38sort of he sat on the fence enough the way it didn't feel like it
- 6:40was just all all evolution is king and creationism is not. I think that's
- 6:45suddenly then going to happen when you are in the right so to speak,
- 6:50or you know, the weight of evidence is kind of really waned down your
- 6:55scales. You have attends ago, well, okay, fine, believe your
- 6:59very tales if you like. But yeah, I mean, and then in
- 7:01fairy tales exactly what people would say. Yeah, that that can lead to
- 7:06some kind of smugness, as I just showed. So yeah, I think
- 7:10it was very worthy and worthwhile at the Simpsons to show, as I said,
- 7:15it's not so much of the both sides have their merits, but both
- 7:18have their place. And yeah, your belief in or your faith or something
- 7:26like that is something that can be, you know, very central to your
- 7:30life, very caught your being and help you sort of make your way through
- 7:33this crazy thing called life. So yeah, I mean it was it was
- 7:36good for them to do so, and I think they did it very very
- 7:40well. I think it was important for Lisa at the end because she was
- 7:42sort of the voice of the whole evolution thing here saying that she respects Flanders
- 7:46belief as well. She's whilst you know, I don't agree with it,
- 7:49I respect that you do believe in it. I just don't think it's appropriate
- 7:54for it to be taught in school, much like you wouldn't want science taught
- 7:57in a church. And that's it. That's away setting it. Yeah,
- 8:01that's all you need. Yeah. Now, it says that Jay Stewart Burns
- 8:05got the idea for this from there was a monkey trial in nineteen twenty five
- 8:11where a teacher did have you heard about this? Do a nettle bit?
- 8:15This the Scopes trial, I believe called Yes. Well, if you google
- 8:18Scopes, the first thing comes up is Scopes monkey trial. But it was
- 8:22yeah, essentially along these lines that, well, let's go to our friend
- 8:28wikipedie wi Pat, let's go. The Monkey Suit was written by Jay Stewart
- 8:31Burns and directed by Raymond s Percy as part of the seventeenth season. Burns
- 8:35received inspiration to the episode from the Scopes Monkey Trial, as you're just saying,
- 8:39mister Davis, a nineteen twenty five legal case in which high school teacher
- 8:43John Scopes was accused of violating Tennessee's Butler Act, which made teaching evolution unlawful.
- 8:50Clarice Drummond, the ACLU lawyer who represents Lisa in this episode, is
- 8:54a reference to the ACLU lawyer Clarence Darrow, who defended Scopes at the time,
- 8:58whilst while Brady I thought it was hilarious. Is a reference to William
- 9:01Jennings Bryan, an attorney in the Scope's monkey trial. So there you go.
- 9:05So that's what the basis of this was on. Indeed, and you've
- 9:09just knocked out one of my trier questions was Wallace Brady, it was Chlorie's
- 9:13drumming. Okay, I would not have got that one. I would not
- 9:16have got that one. But this one's been It's received positive reviews, which
- 9:20is not common in season seventeen. Usually it's like generally unfavored reviews. But
- 9:26year this one thumbs up for most people. See, yeah, people aren't
- 9:30really going out of their way and say season seventeen, whoa, But no,
- 9:35this was like a strong episode. As we've said about many a previous
- 9:39episode. It's got a strong foundation, you know, I mean, it's
- 9:43it's got something solid that you can It's solid ground to sort of set your
- 9:48argument on, you know, and a solid argument to sink your teeth into.
- 9:52So spect so, and then of course you can add all number of
- 9:54gags to it, which is you know, the sugary, sugary tapping that
- 9:58we enjoy from the Simpsons. But yeah, you've got to have something solid
- 10:01to plant your feet on. And I love people who sort of have they
- 10:09have their name as like first initial their name, their name A good buddy
- 10:15of mine Burns well correct, Yeah, I haven't man who he used to
- 10:20mockingly call himself Jay Kenneth something okay when he was taking the piss at himself.
- 10:24And yeah, it's not necessarily a stylization that I like, but but
- 10:30no, Jay Steward Burns did, yeah, did pretty good with that.
- 10:35I think. I thought it was interesting that for a topic that you can
- 10:37really like, you said, sink your teeth into. Apparently the episode came
- 10:41in really short, to the point where the entire like opening bid with but
- 10:45not wanting to waste this summer was actually like written and animated for an episode
- 10:50from like season fourteen, and then they just never used it. And then
- 10:54they just watted at the start of this episode just to fill the gap,
- 10:56and you had the full intro and you had the really long couch gay like
- 11:00it must have really come in short, like really short. I'm gonna take
- 11:03back some of the things that I said about Jay Stewart's throwing in some half
- 11:07host working. Here you go, guys. Yeah, the episode originally animated
- 11:13and written for the season fourteen episode I'm spelling as fast as I can,
- 11:16but it got cut out due to one not enough time left in an episode.
- 11:18This one's like we did extra five minutes. It's like that that makes
- 11:24so much sense when you yeah, sort of reevaluating. Mean you do look
- 11:26at that that opening a bit with buttons, like, oh, yeah,
- 11:31that has absolutely no relation to evolution at all. I mean, and that
- 11:33does happen really seventeen episode Sometimes sort of the opening two or three minutes has
- 11:37nothing to do with the topic that the episode's about. But this one just
- 11:41felt really off topic. Yeah, so, I mean you realize that the
- 11:46thread connecting the two things is awfully thin. When it's least of piping,
- 11:50I'm saying, all right, well now it's time for what you've promised to
- 11:52do with me. All somewhere it's like, oh, finally you're worked one
- 11:56out. Yeah. It kind of like when we're doing it on a story
- 12:00and we finally bring it full circle back to the episode. May hears a
- 12:05burning that sounds like something that I do hey my favorite? What were your
- 12:11favorite moments from the episode. It's funny you mentioned earlier about the sort of
- 12:15smiliness or smugness of people who tend to think they're in the right when it
- 12:18comes to an argument, and mentioning the museum and how it had indisputable proof
- 12:22and all that, And when it came to the quote unquote myth of creation
- 12:28its soundtrack to the Doobie Brothers, what a full beliefs, it was like,
- 12:33that's a bit arch but also like well worth the money, but well
- 12:35worth the money to have to get the rights of that song though you used
- 12:37that absolutely. Sometimes it feels like they're breaking the bait these days with the
- 12:41songs, with the pop songs, like the very very popular songs. But
- 12:46this one here to actually used it for a really solid reason that like fitting
- 12:50it made it funny, you know. Sometimes they used the music just sort
- 12:52of created emotion with this one, like it was used as a gag.
- 12:54I really appreciate that, so did I. Yeah, And I think my
- 12:58other favorite moment where from this it's a little one, but where Quimby is
- 13:05cheering up the meeting and he's talking about as late as proposal which is like,
- 13:09if you're going to just duck in for a packet of smokes, then
- 13:11by all means puck on the handicapped park. I'm like, yes, o
- 13:16Green, No, it's a terrible thing to say, but I'm like I'd
- 13:22probably vote, like yeah, just be cool about it, just going real
- 13:26quick, not near like doing a full shop. He's like, I just
- 13:28gonna go get some flocks. If handicapped parks, is it court? Is
- 13:31it disabled parks? And he handicap I don't offend anybody, apologies if I
- 13:33have, but those parks, right, it shouldn't be. You know how
- 13:37sometimes now when you go into a shopping malls, more offensive you saying those
- 13:41parks okay, apologies. But you know when you go into a shopping mall
- 13:45now and they scan your number plate, you don't have to get a ticket
- 13:48anymore, right. I feel like if the disabled parks right had a little
- 13:52scanner on the front of the car, right and just say you have to
- 13:56register your number plate to say that you had the pass on your window,
- 13:58right, so scans you another plate and if you don't have one of those
- 14:01passes associated with being allowed to park in those parks, then you get like
- 14:05three minutes. And if the three minutes goes and your number plate is still
- 14:09sitting there, then you get the fine Brendan Dano not just creating a wonderful
- 14:15podcast empire, but basically making the world a better place. You should run
- 14:18to Gil on cancel when it's better. It's a bit of a mess and
- 14:22you can't do it. You couldn't make it any worse for that for wrestling
- 14:26fans out there, would give him a three minute warning. Wrestling fans will
- 14:28appreciate that. Reference what I said that three minute one. Now you said
- 14:31it was a little thing. I thought you were meaning quite literally because I
- 14:33got a big kick out of Little most Is, Like ye, that just
- 14:37felt like classic Simpsons, just ridiculousness, just a one of all non sequitar
- 14:43It's like, who saw that coming? I'm never going to see Little most
- 14:46Is like again, it was hilarious. That was good. That was good.
- 14:50You're right, and just Wallace Brady's techniques of trying to win over the
- 14:54crowd and whenever the jury a little Bambi and things who started that fire that
- 14:58killed your mother? Every we should I just love a country lawyer who's you
- 15:05know, appears like a bit of a bumpkin, but you know he's the
- 15:07most savvy person in the room. I mean, I think I think the
- 15:11Simpsons writers love them Matlock, so you know they've done a bit of a
- 15:15tribute to Matlock there as well. But yeah, I mean in referring to
- 15:18it is, what do you think about this devolution? It's like in the
- 15:24video where Charles Darwin's making that with Satan, things like that, Well that's
- 15:30I mean, yeah, we sort of pay out on the on the people
- 15:33on the I don't know what we call the pro revolution side of being smugged,
- 15:37but you know, the people on the progression side, they played dirty.
- 15:41They're gonna up Charles. Then we all played making that with Satan.
- 15:43It's the only way to play, isn't it? Played dirty? Played dirty?
- 15:46Exactly? Get your point across. Next question. You there eating the
- 15:50paste. It is trivia time, which means it is now time for us
- 15:52to finally give some shout outs. Now we haven't been around here for the

- 17:56guys feel like we're giving you enough for you support. All Right, Davis,
- 18:00it is time for us to get into some trivia questions. My first
- 18:02one for you is that who did Grandpa want to sleep with? According to
- 18:06his list, he wanted to sleep with Esther Williams. Up, mister Williams,
- 18:11mister Davis. She was a movie star back in the I think thirties
- 18:15and forties, and this was a time when you go to the movies was
- 18:18a huge sort of novelty, you know, and you have actors and performers
- 18:25who you know, they had specific talents, and Esther Williams was like,
- 18:29I think she was known as the bathing beauty. I think I don't know
- 18:30if she was like a professional swimmer or something like that, but she had
- 18:33a lot of dance numbers or choreograph numbers that basically involved her like diving into
- 18:37and swimming around the pool. She was like a really good synchronous swimmer.
- 18:41And there was a bunch of movies with Esther Williams doing just that. I
- 18:44mean, I think in the in the more innocent age was like she's wearing
- 18:48a beatings. Oh my gosh, don't take the wavefter this one. You
- 18:55said they're going to the movies when it was a novelty. I feel like
- 18:56it's becoming a novelty again. Do people still go to the movies? Not
- 19:00as much as they used to? I mean, we both's all Barbie and
- 19:03you haven't seen Barby did? They were supposed to go see it yesterday,
- 19:06what's today? Wednesday? Ship guy at the time just flies. I was
- 19:08supposed to see it on Sunday. It was five dollars movie day, but
- 19:11then our babysitter fell through about an hour before the movie is about to start.
- 19:17So we're at the call up and get a refunded and like, I'm
- 19:18sorry, mister Dander, but we can't refund you the booking fee of six
- 19:22dollars. I'm like, why, what what? What? What is with
- 19:26the booking fee? Like? Who am I paying the booking fee to?
- 19:30To do you? You can pay it back to me. Who gets the
- 19:34booking fee? Like if I book a ticket at on reading Cinemas dot com
- 19:37or Village Cinemas dot com right and online, and I pay a booking fee.
- 19:41Who am I paying? You're paying? It's all ready, I mean
- 19:45village, all reading. But why are they charged me to Why? Because
- 19:51they've gotten like an all high tech infrastructure now that needs to be bunday.
- 19:56You need to keep paying for that. I don't know. It can be
- 19:57a break, I'm not. It's like if I go I'd rather pay the
- 20:00booking fee going to the movies because you've got a person there behind the fucking
- 20:06I'm paying a human bee. There's no human in between, there's no middleman
- 20:10here. It's me doing their job. Why am I last picture? I
- 20:14don't know, man, the last time I went out to anywhere. It's
- 20:15like what happened to the box office? Now it's all these screens and I'm
- 20:19looking at and pushing buttons on fucking fee? What you got rid of humans?
- 20:26So you're saving money on wages and you're charging me a booking fee And
- 20:30anyway, try go to the supermarket these days. But before this turns in,
- 20:33the old man shakes. Just one more rand coming up? You go
- 20:38ahead. We've been into the UK for a month, right when we left
- 20:42our Wednesday ritual Holly in myself right, sorry Tuesday myself now daddy daycare day
- 20:48because it's a kinder as we go to town with a bit of a wonder,
- 20:52you know, the park, and she has some sushi for lunch.
- 20:53She loves her sushi. Right when we left right for the UK on July
- 20:57twenty eighth, so I was I must have gone with her like July twenty
- 21:00fourth or something. Sushi was two dollars eighty. I took her out yesterday
- 21:06and it was four dollars each. How has it got up a dollar twenty
- 21:08in three and a half weeks? What's going on here? I don't know.
- 21:12I'll put on my politicians out and say costa Living, Costa Living's going
- 21:15through the roof? What a dollar twenty and three and a half weeks?
- 21:19What is happening? Cheese? Cheese? It's a year ago a block kilo
- 21:26block of Cole's brand cheese used to be eight dollars, right and a half
- 21:30ago? Eight dollars. It's now fourteen. What it's fourteen dollars for a
- 21:34block? What the fucking hell? It used to be eight dollars and now
- 21:40it's fourteen. I'll tell you what remains a bargain though? What's that KFC
- 21:45eight dollars tennis eight bucks. Oh I saw that someone online was like damn,
- 21:51and then I'm doing the tenders heck anymore and like, yes they are?
- 21:55And then I tried it and they're not. So we got We got
- 21:57home about nine thirty on say night. Run the way home and it's like,
- 22:00oh, what a kfcing. I'm like, I could really go KFC
- 22:03because I don't eat plain food, right, it always makes me feel unwell.
- 22:06The smell of it makes me feel unwell. I hate plain food,
- 22:07right, so I'd go on like a thirty hour trip and neat nothing but
- 22:11like a cheese samwich. I was starving. I thought, in KFC in
- 22:14the UK is terrible. They don't have chicken salt. Don't even get me
- 22:15started. So get like my kind of place. I had a hankering for
- 22:19KFC, right, what you like KFC without a chicken salt? Are you
- 22:25mad? On the chips? Hang on? The UK doesn't have chicken salts.
- 22:29So the chips doesn't have chicken salt on it. That's what I'm saying.
- 22:30Is terrible in the UK? Interesting anyway? Interesting? But we yeah,
- 22:34so one the way home, want to KFC. I did the hack
- 22:37and the hack worked. Where you're add a feast, you get an ad
- 22:40on like which is like five two I think it's two ad ons, like
- 22:42five dollars something. You get a two light ships with five bucks instead of
- 22:45paying five dollars each. Blah blah blah. And then it worked, took
- 22:48off the feast. I still got my ad ons. Then someone I think
- 22:52it was I was k I believe one of our patrons posting the Patreon group
- 22:55today. You want to be part of that? Just got to just put
- 22:56us on Patreon, and she said, I tried the hack. I've been
- 22:59doing it for years since down I talked about on the podcast, and now
- 23:02it's not working. I was like, hold on a minute, this is
- 23:03actually groundbreaking news for me. I went on too the app because it works
- 23:07for me. Like on the last Thursday, it's now Wednesday. I went
- 23:08on there, I added the feast, added the ad on, removed the
- 23:11feast, and it's like we have also removed the ad on. My heart
- 23:14sank. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. Betrayed by the
- 23:18colonel. Life will never be the same now, it just will never be
- 23:22the same. That was like my thing I was like, I always I
- 23:25felt like such a not a criminal, but I felt like a outwitted to
- 23:29the Klonel. It's always one step ahead. Oh yeah, look there,
- 23:33there's nothing better in this capitalistic healthscape than finding a workaround, you know.
- 23:37I mean, even if it's just I think, yeah, I've signed up
- 23:41to both the major supermarket chains, and you know you'll get your email on
- 23:45a usually Tuesday night or a Wednesday morning, it's like, here is this
- 23:48week's specially, was like, oh that thing, I like, it's half
- 23:51price. Yeah, I'm not going to pay full price. Got to hell,
- 23:53it's exactly right. I feel like maybe I'm to blame. I feel
- 23:56like as a KFC work right there. That went hold on a minute.
- 24:00They listened to the show and went, hold on a minute. This Dando
- 24:03guy, all these thousands and millions of listeners out there, he's costing us
- 24:06a lot of money. I better go, I'll take this straight to the
- 24:08prime minister. Took a straight to the channel, and I'm taking the straight
- 24:15And now this guy is now managing some store and mill juror he got promoted,
- 24:18and now we don't get our hack. I was devastated, kind of
- 24:21like I've told our story once where we used to have that that. You
- 24:23know. We used to work at pop Culture right where I used to work
- 24:26as well, and we had the drinking machine, the drink of the cam
- 24:29machine, so it does and stuff, and there used to be one I
- 24:30believe it was fifty six in the machine. If you put two dollars in,
- 24:34push fifty six for a can of Pepsi Max, and chuck your can
- 24:37of Pepsi Max and give you two one dollar coins in exchange. It was
- 24:41always a free cannip Pepsi Max. And I did it for it like a
- 24:44good year. And now I trusted this one person I name her name.
- 24:47It was as a girl. I told her, and all of a sudden
- 24:51I'd go to the machine and fifty six would be empty. And I was
- 24:52like, she's fucking told people. And whenever you go there was always just
- 24:56fifty six was empty. Fifty six was empty. I was like. And
- 24:59then like, I no, A week later there's a maintenance man. He's
- 25:03fixing the machine and it didn't work anymore. So if you ever find out
- 25:04a hack people learned from me, don't tell anybody. Just enjoy the good
- 25:08life. Indeed, we might have to keep our hacks to ourselves here,
- 25:12because I mean, if someone listening to this show actually went to you know,
- 25:18the Colonel's HQ and said, man, the way, there's a couple
- 25:22of guys in Geelonge who were getting you know, cheap tendies. Yeah,
- 25:26alkay, three words for you. Pow Snitches get stitches then, indeed anyway,
- 25:30And they don't get bitches either, do they. They certainly do not.
- 25:34Bitches just become bitches anyway. So my first question for you, what's
- 25:41your first question for me? What was it? My first question for you?
- 25:42Because you've already asked me, and I don't know how we gotta started
- 25:45talks to Williams. We get to that. That's right now. What did
- 25:52Homer want to find and destroy as part of his summer to do list?
- 25:56What did you want to find and destroy as part of his summer Homer?
- 26:00I missed that one? What was it? It was the Lost City of
- 26:03Atlantis City of Atlantis, which is from the episode The Deep South. Wasn't
- 26:11it Atlanta? Though? Remember in Atlanta the Lost of Atlanta the Future Runner
- 26:15episode which was which which I chucked up as a bonus Pagreon skills go back
- 26:22and you listen to this and the free feed go back and you'll hear the
- 26:25episode of Tails the Future on Me that I whacked up as a bonus whilst
- 26:26we were away on our holidays a Deep South. It was a really fun
- 26:30episode. Has a very similar guy, Nemeber, the guy that runs the
- 26:32Atlanta places, very much like Wallace Brady. And this isn't he correct?
- 26:36Correct? Yeah? And guess what you're going to get access to that for
- 26:38only two dollars a month? Five more on was five dollars a month.
- 26:41I don't want to. I don't want to why to the people, but
- 26:44you know what I mean. Support your pals, Support your pals. My
- 26:47next question is what is coming up at the Imax theater. What's the movie
- 26:49that's coming up coming soon? Is it inside your nostril? Up your nostril.
- 26:55I'll give you that one, up your nostro. A question for you
- 27:00is what is Skinner's alternative to Darwinian evolution? Skinner's alternative? What is it?
- 27:08It's Lamarckian Lamarckian, all right? And my final one, when when
- 27:14the Reverend Love joins and and Flander sharp saying, when you need to offer
- 27:18an evolution an alternative, there's evolution, you mean like Lamarkian. My final
- 27:23question is Brockman is juror number what he's during number seven and in like roast
- 27:29beef for lunch. Yes, indeed, I like that a lot. But
- 27:33I like Ken Brockman as you are very Ken Brockman ish. I reckon.
- 27:36You can relate to it in a lot of ways, can't you. Yeah,
- 27:38do you have a lot of like screen caps and images like in a
- 27:41in a folder on your on your computers. My downloads folder is an absolute
- 27:45mess. I just like say things, save the downloads And I never ordered
- 27:48my memes, Like I know they're in there, but they're just in there
- 27:52somewhere. I occasionally will like I've got a little term up mostly and I've
- 27:56got pretensions towards straightening out my life. I'm going to go through my pictures
- 28:00folder and rather than you know, like X Underscore, Simpsons, got whatever,
- 28:07I'm like, give it a new name. So I was like,
- 28:10oh, if I need to find this, I know I can type in
- 28:11this and I'll find this. But I've got so many Ken Brockman months,
- 28:15like you know, the one where he looks up and it's Brockman in trouble
- 28:18and he's sort of going or just the one where he's dressed like a pimp
- 28:22and giving the thumbs up. I don't know. I just got so many
- 28:25Ken Brockman images. I just love him. My final question to you is
- 28:33Lisa, if she goes down to Mexico, I will be known as senior
- 28:36ya ugly. But what will her job be? What will her job be?
- 28:41No idea? I don't seen you talking about? What was it?
- 28:44Booger pickery? Alright, well, picker of bookers. The four figure Discount

- 29:26podcast. The original air date of The Monkey Suit was May fourteen, two
- 29:33thousand and six. It was written by Jay Stewart Burns as we said,
- 29:36and directed by Raymond s Percy. It stars Larry Hagman as Wallace Brady.
- 29:42Who would Larry Hagman be to our listener, is mister Davis? Give us
- 29:45a bit of an instant look. He's millennials and gem Ze are probably like
- 29:48who, but very big in the seventies eighties as the star of Dallas,
- 29:55one of the biggest shows on television at the time. He played JR.
- 29:57Ewing Chu a precurse to your anti heroes like Walter White and Tony Sopran all
- 30:03that he was evil, but you loved him because he was so you know,
- 30:07fun with it. And before that he was under the leading I dream
- 30:10of Jeannie was he found the he found the magic bottle on the beach opening
- 30:17up and how comes Jeanie? Yes? Was he was? Okay? That
- 30:19makes sense now. So by the way, if he didn't exist, we
- 30:23probably wouldn't have the Who shot mister Burns episode would be that's correct, because
- 30:27yeah, I mean the Who Shot Mister Burns episode is based on a Dallas
- 30:32cliffhang called Who Shot Jr? Everybody everybody wanted to know who shot Jr?
- 30:37And it's before you can got on the internet and find out spoilers, you
- 30:41know what I mean. It was just like I can't imagine what well I
- 30:42can kind of magic. I can just remember before the Internet, when like
- 30:45you had to just wait, you just had to wait and find out,
- 30:51Like, oh my god, I could just find out, Like, can
- 30:52you remember the first spoiler you found out? I'm pretty sure I've asked this
- 30:56question before. It was the six Cents one. I think it might have
- 30:59been, yeah, yeah, yeah, Anyway, now I'm trying to remember
- 31:03because I think the Who Shot Jr? Son of Dales was actually like on
- 31:07the cover of Time magazine. This is an old reference, but yeah,
- 31:10it was like, oh my god, everybody wants to know. So,
- 31:14yeah, we wouldn't have mister Burns, We wouldn't have who Shot Mister Burns?
- 31:15Without it wasn't it a dream? As well? In the end,
- 31:18there was something, there was something the character, Yeah, it's a dream
- 31:22or something, and who does Yeah, yeah, but then they brought that
- 31:26character back and they sort of tried to recon it like it was, oh,
- 31:32no, you just dreamed that person died, Like what the fuck?
- 31:33Yeah, what a cop out? Yeah, because they parody that in Who
- 31:37Shot Mister Burns? When Smith's has the dream about mister Burns and he wakes
- 31:40up in his apartment, he cops out the cigarette butts and things like,
- 31:41oh, it was just a dream. No, it wasn't really anyway.
- 31:44So it also stars Melanie Griffith as the on the audio tape as well.
- 31:49I honestly thought that this was a rather cruel joke at the expense of the
- 31:53lovely miss Griffith. Well, she did it herself. And then then I
- 31:57stood at the end it's like, that's Melanie, because first of all,
- 32:00I thought, we're doing this. Melanie Griffith impersonation is doing pretty good because
- 32:04he's got a very distinctive, breathy, sort of baby gold kind of voice
- 32:07that's quite well over these Melanie Griffith's you know, been around forever. Our
- 32:15young and vital listeners will probably know her as the mum of Dakota Johnson,
- 32:19star of the Fifty Shades movies. She I did not know that. Okay,
- 32:22I know it now though. Yeah. But yeah, but Melan Griffin,
- 32:25oh, as one might say, but yeah, it does have that
- 32:30very kind of yeah voice, yeah yeah voice, And I'm like, oh,
- 32:34you guys are taking the piss. That's a big crowl. And it
- 32:36turned out to be Melanie Griffith, who is clearly a good sports in on
- 32:38the joke. Yes, the chopboard gag because they had chopboard gag in this
- 32:42one because they had spare time. Was so I can't speak French, but
- 32:46I don't speak French. Written in French, so it's is it Jean palais
- 32:52pass franca that's it. There you go, There you go. Someone is
- 32:55someone who knows their French. There he goes. That's what it says on
- 32:58the oms someone who doesn't know for so that's the only that's the French I
- 33:01say when I'm in Franz Franz and the Ga. The cash game was the
- 33:07photographer takes the Simpsons picture, which sets off a slideshow of events from two
- 33:10thousand and six thirteen. We've seen this one before, well, Marge married
- 33:14Jim Bell and things like that before this season as well. It was in
- 33:17the yeah, we've seen it in season seventeen, haven't we. Yeah,
- 33:20it's pretty oh this one. The episode kicks off a Bart this is the
- 33:22stuff that was cut from the spelling as fast as I can episode. So
- 33:27Bart's watching Bobberrella and it's funny because I was watching this and I'm watching it
- 33:30going this feels I feel like I've seen this before and I haven't seen but
- 33:34I feel like I've had a similar scene where it was like watching Boberrell.
- 33:36We haven't had Bubarrella for a while. Bubarrella feels like a really like two
- 33:38or three seasons ago character, and this makes sense now that they've explained that
- 33:43it was thrown in there from from that era. So Bart is watching Bobberrella.
- 33:46He thinks he's wasted his summer because it's nearly the end. I thought,
- 33:49how fitting that we're reviewing this as summer is a battery end in the
- 33:52United States. Literally, this is going to be released on the day when
- 33:54summer ends. So long you as Summer. I had a very nice time
- 34:01during you UK summer was the first week we got there. It rained for
- 34:07the entire week and I was like, oh my god, of course it
- 34:08is why wouldn't it be. I've come all the way to see summer and
- 34:12it's raining in England anyway, But the last couple of weeks we're decent with.
- 34:15I would comparing it to like a nice spring day in Australia. Something
- 34:20was like, we had one what they called a hot day and it was
- 34:22twenty eight. I was like, oh, you silly English. You were
- 34:28like, you're like Homer in Australia's like, yeah, it's kind of hot.
- 34:31Yes, Well, you know, just as our summer is ending for
- 34:38our American friends and our English friends as well, we're finally making an exit
- 34:44out of a rather chilly winter into spring. Our birthdays are coming, which
- 34:47means the weather's getting better. Christmas is on the way, Halloween's on the
- 34:51way, good times ahead. Indeed, coincidence that you know, better weather
- 34:55comes along, just as Dandy when I made another year who knows? Who
- 34:59knows? So Grandpa has his list as well, mentioned about Esther, Williams
- 35:04and whatnot, and Bart tries to get everything done not ruined. His summer.
- 35:07Also a gagged it probably yeah, I mean it's an historical name and
- 35:10I don't think it's been completely stricken. For the record, but I don't
- 35:13know if you can make a job a joke about it. I don't know
- 35:15if you can make a joke about the Negro League these days. No,
- 35:20Like, well, I guess you can. I mean why not? I
- 35:22mean he's not making a joke about the league. The jokes and again more
- 35:27about about the person But is it more offensive to say that you can't include
- 35:32them in the joke? And you know that's not get into a discussion.
- 35:35He goes win a baseball game, we get the parody of what's the film
- 35:38that, Well, there's two here? This is a two fu, isn't
- 35:42it, because the coach is clearly Walter Math are from the Bad News Bag.
- 35:47Of course, yes, yeah again someone, This is why I thought
- 35:52it was a Meloy Griffin and personalty, because it's a very good Walter Math
- 35:55that one personator get in there simpthing Dan you said basis Homer off of him?
- 36:01Oh? Of course your home voice. Yeah that's right. Of course
- 36:07you had fun. You learned a little something too. Tuning into this episode
- 36:09a full finger this game of Daddy, and then of course when Bart hits
- 36:13the home run and fireworks start going off, it's a bit of a it's
- 36:17a shout out to the climax of the Natural movie from the eight starring Robert
- 36:22Redford as a baseball theme on. It's one of my late dad Dad's favorite
- 36:27movies. Is it really feel like every dad has a sporting movie of some
- 36:30kind it's one of their favorites. Like for my dad's for something, this
- 36:35is not sporting with my dad loves happy gam but for something who comes to
- 36:37favorite movies, my dad loves the movie The Warriors. Have you saying The
- 36:40Warriors? Yeah, I've got an on blue R fantastic, absolutely loves The
- 36:45Warrior. Not once the Warriors great great films a rose, but my dad
- 36:49loves the movie The Warriors. Of other games like Warriors come out and play.
- 36:54Oh good movie, great soundtrack. Yes, a lot to enjoy The
- 36:59Warriors. Bought the Warrior's board game. Funk Ga made a Warriors board game
- 37:01of four people, I was a funk game movie. It wasn't funk.
- 37:04There's a Warrior's board game that a boy. I haven't played it yet,
- 37:06but I'm really excited to play it. That actually makes a lot of sense
- 37:08because the plot of the Warriors is essentially they've got to get from point A
- 37:13to point B without getting killed by various gangs. Yeah. Yeah, great
- 37:19movie The Warriors. Yeah, absolutely worth checking out if you can, if
- 37:22you can find it, yeah, definitely. So yeah, so you got
- 37:24the pizza party afterwards. Then he has to wants to appear in a summer
- 37:28stop play a film not so great Grease too. Remember Grease too. People
- 37:32are people are reclaiming great Grease. It's coming around, isn't it. People
- 37:37are like, oh no, you know it was good Grease too. And
- 37:37I'm like Grease too. I've watched it for a long long time. But
- 37:44very early role for Michelle Fifer. Yeah, who was the heart throb that
- 37:49the male lead. He's a guy named Maxwell call Field, Okay who honestly
- 37:53he sounds like the butler from The Nanny. It's not he is English.
- 37:58Although do you know the movie Empire Records? Of course I do. Yeah,
- 38:04yeah, he's Rex Manning. Ah fuck Okay, yeah yeah, it's
- 38:07Rex Manning day and he's and he's Rex Manning. Yeah, but he never
- 38:10really sort of never hit it big. I mean, he's incredibly handsome,
- 38:14Valley. He looked like the dude from the Princess Bride. He's got that
- 38:16sort of ye little tought. Yeah, yeah, I'm thinking of the music
- 38:24you know later on this episode when they go to the museum and you hear
- 38:28that doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Do do do Do Do Do
- 38:30do? That's the kind of a music expect to hear playing. When he
- 38:35walks into a room, he sort of looked like Michael York who was you
- 38:37know, what do you call it? He was homes Dad and homes paternity
- 38:42cute, That's right, Yeah, that's what I was thinking of, And
- 38:45yeah, homes perternity cut ye a bit like that anyway. But yeah,
- 38:50there was that recent Grease TV series as well, Rise of the Pink Ladies,
- 38:52that I think was kind of riffing on Grease Too a bit as well.
- 38:55So, yeh, people aren't there gun, that's pretty good. I'm
- 38:59like, I don't know it is it's Grease too? One has reproduction as
- 39:01the song rebroduction? Is that Grease too? I think? So, I
- 39:07don't think it's in Grease one. I think I know all the songs from
- 39:09this one. Wasn't John Travoltan living in it? In John, I'm afraid
- 39:14just na look as much as everybody loves Michelle fire for It's kind of like,
- 39:17no, no, I just didn't work. No, it felt like
- 39:20cash grabbing. It certainly was. But then he goes to see the Sun,
- 39:22a blockbuster, which was a men in black riff. There they get
- 39:25out of my way? Was it? You raggedy maggots? My face,
- 39:29you raggedy maggots. That's why it must be seeing that, It's like,
- 39:31that's what Will Smith was in that year. It's just that the dded catchphrase,
- 39:34didn't he Yeah, it was like that makes this look good? Well,
- 39:37you know, work on Earth is one of my favorite fucking lines in
- 39:42the history of movies. It's just when it comes to sci fi films,
- 39:45it's just the greatest. It's so stupid, but it's just it's you know,
- 39:50and you know that that continues to this day. We know, keep
- 39:52my wife's name out your fucking mouth the catchphrase, but it's the emphasis on
- 39:58fuck fuck mouth mouth. I would never forget. The first time I watched
- 40:04that, it was like it took took the world was processing for about ten
- 40:08seconds of is this actually happening? Is this real? What am I watching
- 40:12right now? It's just so I know, it's a dated reference. Now
- 40:15I would go into it, but it was just you rewatch it now,
- 40:17and it's just like it's so surreal, like Will Smith doing that was happening.
- 40:23Here going on, It's like watching your childhood hero getting shot. It
- 40:28was like, what is going on was happening. It's it's our version of
- 40:30watching the JFK SASA. Really, where were you when Will Smith slapped Chris
- 40:37rob Because I mean, you know, Twitter seems loud, but you know
- 40:44you can't actually hear it. It's just you know a lot of people are
- 40:45sort of typing and everything that so it sounds like a bit of a cacophony.
- 40:49It was like Twitter went silent for like ten second, like and then
- 40:57it was like hashtag the app. Everyone was just like, I don't know
- 41:01what to do. They couldn't they couldn't read their fingers stunned to silence like
- 41:07ten seconds because it was just like you couldn't look away, you know,
- 41:10you just could not look away from it anyway. Yeah, And I mean
- 41:14when I first sort of heard about it, I'm like, oh, it's
- 41:16some kind of it's it's a stunt. It's a prank that has to be
- 41:19a bit or they've got a film coming out or something. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:22yeah, But then it's just like, oh no, this just happened,
- 41:25and now we're just going to keep handing out off because like this should
- 41:29have happened, and then we're going to give one to Will Smith. Dude.
- 41:31It did that mus to be the most awkward room to be in for
- 41:39the rest of the night, right, it really was. Yeah. I
- 41:43mean you're hearing all these stories about I don't know, like alliances were being
- 41:46drawn up, but some people were like, oh someone, so I went
- 41:49and talked to Will and make sure that he was a right someone was sure
- 41:52that Chris Smith's Chris Rocks all right got slapped really hard, is what it
- 41:58got slapped by Will Smith. There's not a small guy, No, not
- 42:01at all, that Will Smith because it Will Smith is because we we just
- 42:05reviewed for our Going Down the South Pike, which is still available for free.
- 42:07Can find it now when all of your various podcast apps. The episode
- 42:14what was it called cat Orgyorgy Wicked wild wild West not a wild while we're
- 42:21starring Will Smith. Yes, but then Bart's racing home. All the trees
- 42:24are changing color. He's not done yet. He needs to find a summer
- 42:27romance like that. I thought that was a nice visual gear. No,
- 42:30I've got an outrun. I've got an outrun autumn. Yes, So he
- 42:35finds the summer romance sort of like a Grease parody, not a Grease parody
- 42:38of Grease reference. I guess with the summer lovin, but anyway he can
- 42:40guess. So, but yeah, that what a queen that girl. Yeah,
- 42:44a hundred boys in the summer, Yes, exactly. Bart gets home.
- 42:46He said, I just had my first kiss and I was like what,
- 42:49And I'm like, don't worry about continuity, doesn't matter. We've had
- 42:51several episodes of Bart having his first kiss. Let's not get into it.
- 42:53Over then says, you know your offer barter beer or whatever. When he
- 42:57gets the third base and then ticks off on his list have fake interest in
- 43:00the boy, and Lisa says, finally there's time now for us to go
- 43:02to the museum. And they arrive and there's the show for this week or
- 43:07whatever they think. In his Loom's Labor and Liberation, where it's the history
- 43:12of women weaving and home, it's just Lucky's just disappointed. You can't believe
- 43:15it. He goes to offer but a drink of his special water bottle.
- 43:17This whole thing just wasn't even all that funny. But then it turns into
- 43:21the the show, there's a history of museum sponsored by Kelloggs. I didn't
- 43:24get the reference. They're sponsored by Kellogg's. What Calloggs like or something?
- 43:30What? No, I guess the Kelloggs is like, it's breakfast cereal for
- 43:34kids. You know, he's tone of the tiger. But he's just getting
- 43:36you know, absolutely weaponized. Maybe, although I think they might have covered
- 43:40their eyes legally, because I think normally a spell Kelloggs the breakfast cereal people
- 43:45with two g's and this was only one. Okay, they should have caught
- 43:49it. Kelloggs would have been better, right for the history of islence.
- 43:52Oh why aren't you running for the simple anyway? Assistant? Yes, oh,
- 44:00buy, I'd like a top of tea. But there's a really long
- 44:07line, Flanders all the way at the front rest. The question why is
- 44:09it the very fund of a line for a museum's gonna talking about the history
- 44:15of weapons? Anyway? So Hermer cuts in and then everyone else cut in
- 44:17front of Flanders. They end up at the back of the line. So
- 44:20Flanders a good theory to make the kids feel better. Turnament, we'll feel
- 44:22like we're at the front. But Hamma won't of them. Let them have
- 44:24that time to do. Would I do best? Ruin it for everybody?
- 44:30Hey Flanders, thanks for saving our place. But wait, wait, hold
- 44:35the phone there home, dude, I was totally here. Are you calling
- 44:37me a liar in front of my kids? Because I take a bullet for
- 44:42you man right in the mouth. Oh fine, take the cut, ned
- 44:47Flanders is doing out cuts? Hey for one? Which to part Acome said,
- 44:54if bony here is getting cuts, I want them too. What disco
- 45:00stew slads in front of you? Hear that? Run? Tell you what?
- 45:09If we turn around, it'll feel like we're at the front of the
- 45:12line. Yeah, no you don't. I'm everywhere. Then we're at the
- 45:19Imax theater and the movie is Nunchuck's cool but useless, And I kind of
- 45:22agree ridiculous. Yeah, I wholly disagree. You agree or disagree? I
- 45:28well, I've never seen nunchucks used in person. I've never seen like.
- 45:31I can imagine him being effective if you know how to use him, but
- 45:34fucking knowing how to use him properly? It seems like a lot of work.
- 45:37Yes, true. I mean, look, I initially thought this nunchucks
- 45:43will look really cool when you're striking your pose and you're sort of flicking him
- 45:45over your shoulder and like it's like Jesus, don't mess with this person.
- 45:49It was the coolest ninja turtle. So I always wanted nunchucks when I was
- 45:51a kid, not a Donna Tello. Dude. Well, if you were
- 45:55a little bit of a geeky kid, you were done a Tello a kid
- 45:58because he was the gadgets guy. If there's a bit of a smart ass,
- 46:00you were the Raphael. If you were just the easy go like a
- 46:04lucky sheep, you were Michael Langelo. Leonardo was the boring one. If
- 46:08you're boring, likely no one Luckily Leonardo, Right, he's the leader like
- 46:12off. That's like liking Cyclops. If you're into the X Men, yea
- 46:17is the is the reserved mature big brother. Like I don't know, you
- 46:22got fun love and angsty of the world. I have angst or smart you
- 46:28know, good thinking, good thinking. Look, I initially thought, you
- 46:31know, nun chucks, and they look great, but are they all that
- 46:34effective? I writtenly saw John Wick Chapter four, Wait to watch it.
- 46:38Though there's a lot to it. There's a lot going on. I just
- 46:42can't find like, I can't book three hours in my schedule to sit down
- 46:45and watch it yet, you know that's the thing. Yeah. But Keano,
- 46:49God bless him, he seems to have learned every weapon on the face
- 46:52of the earth to convincingly playing John Wick over four movies, breaks out the
- 46:55nun chacks on this one and sort of has some guys his head pind or
- 46:59table and just none chucking him. It's like, oh, that's how you
- 47:02use because you don't just get a baton. Well true, but I mean
- 47:07I think the chain gives you a little bit more sort of momentum. Momentum
- 47:10yeah, okay, but anyway, yeah, Kiano bashing the shad out of
- 47:15this guy's skull with nune chucks Like, oh, okay, I now get
- 47:19the appeal. Okay. But then we have Maggie looking at the wall of
- 47:23weapons. She takes out the knife and she holds march at ransom basically,
- 47:27and then people ever tries the yard and the bullet vests. I did like
- 47:30the end of that scene for like you think it's also like harmless and it
- 47:34pans out and bulls have been fight everywhere in the room and everyone looks scared.
- 47:37I'm like, that's exactly what would happen. I'm like, that is
- 47:40true. I'll like that little pay off at the end. Then we have
- 47:43Bart stretching Millhouse. Do you want to be in the NBA or not?
- 47:46But I'm sorry, that just reminded me of just a bit from the very
- 47:51early days of Jackass, where I think I've talked about this bass when Knoxville
- 47:55and some mates went out to like weigh out of town, out of the
- 47:58mountains or something, and he shot himself in the in the chest while wearing
- 48:02a bulletproof like pull out a thirty eight and shot himself in the chest with
- 48:07it, And the footage of it is like that really sort of grainy Blair
- 48:12witch sty whole hogital video from like the late eighties, early two thousands.
- 48:16It's like late eighties, late nineties. I'm sorry, but oh god,
- 48:22this looks like a snuff movie everything before Jack asked we had that c K
- 48:29Why remember c K? Why do you remember those? Oh yeah, camp,
- 48:31Well, you can say the full name because it might be camp Kip
- 48:35yourself. That's wanted. That's what it stood for it. But yeah,
- 48:37I remember they've seen so many videos these days on YouTube where references to self
- 48:43harm like that automatically sort of blanked out. Really yeah, not good anyway,
- 48:50So that's why I was reluctant to say the full name. But you
- 48:52know, screw, We'll just see what we want. This is a full
- 48:57finger discount. But but as I said, but stretching Millhouse to try and
- 49:00get into the NBA family or leaving Millhouse is now stretched looks very much like
- 49:04stretched dude from the tree as of horror ten. I want to say it
- 49:07is when but it is stretched dude. But then they leave, but Flanders
- 49:10they're leaving, But Flanders is they haven't even got in yet. That's how
- 49:13far the line had been. But then they lock it up and the homer
- 49:16gives him the audio tape of Melanie Griffith just walking around and saying, this
- 49:21one's nice room, this one's nice too. It just they make her sound
- 49:23so dumb, don't they. But she'd voiced them though. She's willing to
- 49:27go with it. This room's nice. Let's go into the next one.
- 49:30This room's nice too, This room's nice. This room's nice too. This
- 49:37room's nice too. This room's nice. This room's nice. This room's nice
- 49:43too. The Hall of the Weapons has been locked out, well, the
- 49:46history of weapons has been locked out now, but they can still go into
- 49:49the Hall of Man and is where they discuss evolution and it's got unisex toilets
- 49:53and Flanders is just not a fand at all the myth of creation. But
- 49:58this is the thing if you've been raised to believe that, you know,
- 50:00creationism is the thing I can actually buy into. Todd being like what's mummy
- 50:05your monkey? Like like like that's oh yeah. It would be so confusing
- 50:07for a child, wouldn't it. Like what do you mean? Yeah,
- 50:10if you've been sold a bill of goods for you know, certain for all
- 50:14your life, Yeah, of course you're going to go, well, that's
- 50:16when you start making your logical you're quite unquite logical connections go well, if
- 50:21this is the case, then there's nothing no, no, no, yeah,
- 50:24I can really do a number on your whole Yeah, your whole belief
- 50:30system. I love how that is. Sort of take the Micky as well.
- 50:31It's like it's old lies, evolution, it's old lies. You told
- 50:34us we came from a stock, you did it? It's like, oh,
- 50:38so like everyone lies, that's why. And then you know, if
- 50:42there's little kid is out there listening talent, turn us off for like a
- 50:44minute, right, But I like to say the actual truth. But it's
- 50:46like I've had someone I've discussed on the podcast say that they told their kids
- 50:52about S A N T A right, And it's like, because I don't
- 50:53like to my kids, And I was like, you know what, how
- 50:57about you just fucking let them have a bit of a childhood, like okay,
- 51:00like some lies are okay. No, some are okay. They're not
- 51:04hurting it. It's just it's fun, you know what I mean. Anyway,
- 51:07that just reminded me of that. But so then the church counceled meeting
- 51:10is hardly anybody in there. I did like the sign at the front topic
- 51:14religion at religion and Flanders is angry again side show mail, just randomly that
- 51:19they can't get enough of their side show mail, can they? As I've
- 51:22written down here, that's too much mail. That's in brak. It's two
- 51:25scenes. Yeah, two scenes is just too much. Yeah, So Flanders
- 51:29is angry that there's that. You know, there's no apes in the Bible.
- 51:31How can you believe it? Why would they believe when it's not in
- 51:34the Bible? And Helen loved Joyce suggests that this controversy could help to generate
- 51:37some extra income since the Episcopalians have their vibrating seats over now across the road
- 51:42and their church. And he says, well, I could be the white
- 51:44Al Sharpton. Now Al Sharpton another reference for the young uns who may not
- 51:47understand who he is. You want to give us a bit of a bit
- 51:50of an African American community leader, the Reverend Al Sharpton. I believe the
- 51:55time, didn't we? Yes? Yeah, I mean, look, I'm
- 52:01loath to say the don king of religion, but had a very had a
- 52:07very similar sort of style of delivery and appeal. A show man, wasn't
- 52:13he? Yeh yeah, a civil rights activist as well. Primarily yes,
- 52:16but yeah, you continue look up Al Sharkin. But Flanner suggests that they
- 52:20are the ultimate theories to evolution to Skinner at school, and they threaten to
- 52:23burn the Skinner's car lise if he doesn't actually listen to them. So now
- 52:27they're going to be teaching creationism in the school and Ralph ass our Ocean God's
- 52:30Tears. Skinner looks over to see for approval from Flanners and Reverend Love joined.
- 52:37They approve. So then now Lisa is the Ralph as Ralph refer because
- 52:40Lisa can't believe this is actually happening. So when I come back from commercial
- 52:44and Skinner shows the video. So you're calling Guide a liar an unbiased comparison
- 52:49of evolution and creationism. How can you teach the Book of Genesis as a
- 52:52scientific theory? This helpful video will evade all your questions? High screen word.
- 53:00So you're calling God a liar an unbiased comparison of evolution and creationism.
- 53:06Let's say hi to two books. One the Bible, was written by our
- 53:09Lord. The other, The Origin of Species, was written by a cowardly
- 53:17drunk named Charles Darwin. Yeah, is this slander? Darwin was one of
- 53:25the greatest mind of all time, then why is he making out with Satan?
- 53:34Revolution is widely acknowledged. His scientific fact is even accepted by prominent conservatives
- 53:39like George Will and the late Pope John Paul. It's something to think about.
- 53:45The George Will, have you read this book, The Argin of Spaces
- 53:49I've divide it. I have never read the argin of species. It just
- 53:52seemed like way above my pay rate. They called Charles Darwin the cowardly drunk,
- 53:55and he makes out with Satan just as you were discussing the elidist that
- 54:00everyone plays dirty goodness. Lisa then gets home. She's really angry. She
- 54:05says, you know, on a test, if every answer is God did
- 54:07it? And Marge tries to explain that margin here is kind of not the
- 54:10voice of reason, but she's the one saying can't we all just get along?
- 54:15The moderate centrist that's like, like we can coexist, Like you can
- 54:19believe that and they can believe that. And it doesn't mean that either one
- 54:22is right or wrong. It's just let's just learn to live together and accept
- 54:24each other's beliefs. That's all well known. Mad. Before we get into
- 54:29that, I have a very important question. Why was Maggie in the bin?
- 54:34I I didn't even write notes for that. I was like, I
- 54:38don't get this, this just feels weird, didn't pay off anything whatever.
- 54:43I just moved on. Yeah, I mean was she holding the switchblade again?
- 54:45I mean I don't think she don't know. I think if she was
- 54:50then it'll be like, oh, now she's got a taste for crime and
- 54:52she's going to be holding up Marge for candy all the time. But it
- 54:54was just like she's just in the bin. March happened, Marge just like
- 54:58everyone the bin, and then Maggie was in there and I was like,
- 55:00this is silly, doesn't make I didn't get it. If you know what
- 55:02it meant. Let us know Simpson's mail, Bagerie, but don't come come
- 55:06below. Lisa says, no, you get the cheese between science or belief.
- 55:09So Lisa's very she's very black and white, and she's very like,
- 55:13I'm right, you're wrong. She believes something like she's just very matter of
- 55:15fact. She very hard to budge her and very would you say that she's
- 55:20she struggles to what's the word compromise. By the end, she always does,
- 55:27But at first she's very much initially gets very sort of dogmatic and very
- 55:30sort of strict and and believes, yeah, because you know, I think
- 55:34in this case, science is her religion. So you know that's she's going
- 55:37to be quite zealous about that. You're right, But I think invariably she
- 55:43learns to learns to as he said, compromise learns to find the find the
- 55:49positive in both arguments. We're now having dinner and families all having dinner,
- 55:52and Homer says he's opened the new ideas as well. But then he finds
- 55:55onions with his peas and they ain't going to happen. I've got a friend
- 55:59who has to separate everything on the plate, and they say they're not diagnosed
- 56:04of anything. But I'm like, I'm pretty sure there's something something though,
- 56:12but do a bit of that. He separates the food and then he has
- 56:14to eat it all in particular order as well. Okay, so he separates
- 56:19the veggies, everything has to be separate, not touching on the plate,
- 56:22and eats it in an anti clockwise direction, so that meets is the last
- 56:24thing that he eats on the plate every time. I don't think your friend
- 56:28needs to be diagnosed. I think me not a doctor, can pretty pretty
- 56:36solid diagnosis based on that. It's now a town meeting time. They're discussing
- 56:40the disabled parks, as you're saying earlier, for smokes and pop tarts.
- 56:45Yeah, Quimby, not just secrets but pop tarts. But notice, as
- 56:47we always say, when it comes to these town meetings. It's either side
- 56:51Mail, Lenny carl or Barney and it's again Lenny Carlin, this and such.
- 56:55You know you've got You've got a whole town full of people. Is
- 56:59him to take advance? They just forget now. Yeah, but Lisa says,
- 57:01you know, you can only teach one theory. You can't teach both.
- 57:04It's just not going to w you can't co exist. So of course
- 57:07they go creationism. Now did you think it was interesting in that? I
- 57:09feel like in the real world it would be you know, going evolution and
- 57:13creationism would be the one having to try and fight to get in there.
- 57:15Wherein the Sins universe, it's evolutions having to try and fight its way back
- 57:19into the school system. I know Skinner was bright, but no, it
- 57:22feels like that an entire town is against Lisa and against evolution, which which
- 57:25is odd. Yeah. Look, I mean, I'm sorry, I should
- 57:30do a little more. I shouldn't have done my wikipeding before we did this
- 57:32episode. But I mean I'm keen to find out how many states in the
- 57:36US favored creationism or what they read rebranded as intelligent design in favor of Oh,
- 57:46this is what it was referred to around this time intelligent Design movement.
- 57:51The next one is Intelligent Design Debunked. For meanwhile, Martin. Martin finds
- 57:58a letter for the secret meeting that has been written by L. M.
- 58:01S. This as we get the little mostes like gag, which it just
- 58:05comes out of absolutely nowhere. It is so stupid, but I absolutely loved
- 58:08it. Little Most is like it's little little some, like when someone's little
- 58:14little Tom Jeffreys or something like little at the start. It's makes it so
- 58:16much funnier to me. It does. I'm always astonished at how many hip
- 58:22hop artists call themselves little something. Yeah, little John, but it's not
- 58:23little, it's little l L Little John Nelson. He's in the meeting as
- 58:31well. We realize he's in the wrong one. It's meant to be with
- 58:32the bullies burning spiders. I think it was, which I thought, Oh,
- 58:36that's very nice. Chapter one, when we compare the individuals of the
- 58:39same variety or sub variety of our older cultivated plants and animals, Lisa Simpson,
- 58:45you're under arrest for the teaching of non public of science. There are
- 58:52so many worse crimes. Why are you persecuting me? Well, we only
- 58:57have the man power to enforce the last lot past. You know, it's
- 59:00not the best system, but well, in fact it's it's pretty much the
- 59:04worst. You live. If you do, you live, if you do.
- 59:12In the old days, you would have been all over that. And
- 59:15then we cut to a scene with Snake just shooting people on a roof,
- 59:17which I don't think you would have in an episode anymore, Like you live,
- 59:21you don't, And I'm like, oh my, Usually Snake is just
- 59:24like he's not actually really hurting people. He's just rubbing the quickie maut or
- 59:29whatever, and he might shoot a pool or whatever, but it's not like
- 59:30going out and just murdering people. This seemed like he was just murdering people.
- 59:35He's not a random shooter. That's not for Snake. We know and
- 59:38love. Yeah, even for Snake, this felt out of character. Now
- 59:42the court case, this Gud versus Lisa Simpson, and we get Wallace Brady
- 59:46as a prosecutor, and Wallas Brady was just absolutely hilarious. I really really
- 59:50enjoyed it. In Brockman loved the reveal of him being on the jury as
- 59:52well. But it's just dumb. It's just not going well from for Lisa
- 59:58at all. Now there's a scene where they cut to the jury or gasping,
- 1:00:02can't remember what was said exactly. I think it's Arthur Franks says something
- 1:00:06or whatever. But they'll go and Lenny in that shot has no five o'clock
- 1:00:09shadow. It's just it's just yellow. Yeah, unusual, Yeah it is.
- 1:00:15I'll freeze frame it and chuck it up in the in the Patrion group
- 1:00:17and I will make it happen. But they bring up the missing link theory,
- 1:00:22the missing link, and then we get Wallace with the Bambi and the
- 1:00:25mother who killed your your mother who's at the fire evolution, So Lisa,
- 1:00:30they all arrive home the family and Lisa apologizes, you know, she should
- 1:00:34have just gone with the flow, like you said, and he is just
- 1:00:36like, ah, Now I feel bad for Lisa. Like usually usually I
- 1:00:40struggled to feel bad for Lisa when she's being sort of like somewhat pompous.
- 1:00:44But here I know they I thought the way that Jay Stewart Burns wrote her
- 1:00:49in this episode, she didn't come across like a twenty year old in the
- 1:00:52body of an eight year old. She came across like a kid. And
- 1:00:55the fact that she gives up here, I'm just like, oh, you
- 1:00:58know what. I thought she was very well written. It felt real the
- 1:01:00way she responded to the situation. It did feel like the first time,
- 1:01:06you know, you discovered that Esa n Ta is not Ria. Yeah.
- 1:01:10Yeah, you're just like like, oh, no, I've had I've had
- 1:01:14one of my big beliefs just sort of zipped away. Yeah. But it's
- 1:01:19not even so much that it's not that she doesn't believe it anymore. It's
- 1:01:21just that she feels defeated, doesn't she like, what's the point? You
- 1:01:23can't system? Yeah? Or you know, yeah, you've got up against
- 1:01:27the system knowing that you're right, and yeah, still you've got some rather
- 1:01:32obtuse people just kicking it to the curb. I'm good. So she throws
- 1:01:37her the Charles Darn book in the bin and Marge then reads it, and
- 1:01:42I'm like, you know what, Marge, for all her faults, she's
- 1:01:45smoking like she's one point. She's like at the at the baseball cage,
- 1:01:50we're in a short shorts and she's in the shower with her hair all down.
- 1:01:52I'm like, they always draw sexy, Marge. Haad down is always
- 1:01:57sexy. As weird as that sounds, but Marge haad and is great.
- 1:02:00I'm a fan. Yeah, always reminded. It reminds me of the I
- 1:02:05think It's Homer alone where she goes to Rancho relax so and she sort of
- 1:02:07sinks into the bar. Yes, yeah, please, I love it when
- 1:02:13you're not into it by ignored me, I'm not even here. Really weird
- 1:02:19scene here though, where Homers like he loves it when she's not into it.
- 1:02:21I'm like, this just felt like something you might have like riffed in,
- 1:02:24like the Writer's Room is a bit of a gay, but you don't
- 1:02:27put it into an episode. It felt so I was like, hey,
- 1:02:30what if what if home? Or was like more like Peter Griffin or you
- 1:02:34know, what if more family? What's got a racy gags? Can we
- 1:02:36get away with no home? And not being down with consent? Yeah?
- 1:02:40This was a Peter Griffin gad to the fullest. Yeah, Millhouse then I
- 1:02:45did not like it. It made me feel unpleasant. Yeah. Millhouse then
- 1:02:47serves a he'll serve time whilst Lisa fleas to Mexico. She says, not
- 1:02:51going to do that. Let's reveal that it's Nelson now what's this a reference
- 1:02:53to the Puzzle Transition. I have no idea. I get the feeling it
- 1:02:57might be like old school Mission Impossible something get smart on Mission Mission Him.
- 1:03:01Let's go, let's do Puzzle Transition TV. Yeah, Puzzle trus I'm just
- 1:03:07typing here, Puzzle Transition TV show. It's gonna be a TV show reference,
- 1:03:10right, It's gonna be something. The Crystal Maze is a British game
- 1:03:13show. Advice by Nah, I don't think it's that. The Bletchley Circle
- 1:03:20drama. It's not it. Nah, It's weird, isn't it. Let
- 1:03:22us know because it's not on the wiki page either. Let's go, let's
- 1:03:25go. I'll type monkey soup and I go to the IMDb because sometimes I
- 1:03:29have more info there in the trivia. So I go to the IMDb page.
- 1:03:32Let's have a look. I'll go to the trivia there. I damn
- 1:03:36it with your ads, all right, here we go, Here we go.
- 1:03:40The first thing. The first thing came up. The two scenes of
- 1:03:43Nelson removing his mask was supposed to feature the Mission Impossible theme music, but
- 1:03:45the staff couldn't get the rights of the song, so Alf Clausen had to
- 1:03:49create a unique motif there you go. So it was supposed to be a
- 1:03:52Mission Impossible. Reference was they'd rip off the mask, but they couldn't get
- 1:03:55the rights to the music. If you haven't seen the latest Mission Impossible,
- 1:03:59are you of those movies I've seen? I'ven't ever seen the first three,
- 1:04:01Yeah, but I've got them all penciled in because I'm just apparently it's getting
- 1:04:04better and better, especially if Tom Cruise is doing his own stunts and shit,
- 1:04:08like he's trying to outdo himself every time. Now, yeah, they're
- 1:04:11really a gold standard stuff for me. But and let you know, the
- 1:04:14masks sort of play a big part in them. You know, He's always
- 1:04:16like, oh my god, you thought it was Philip Seamoffer, but now
- 1:04:19we pulled off a mask in the Tom Cruise or something like that. And
- 1:04:24someone someone on social media said, because I think the next Mission Impossible one
- 1:04:29might be the last one, supposedly because Tom Cruise is getting a bit old
- 1:04:32and can't be jumping out of planes or holding onto rockets anymore. And I
- 1:04:35think it's like, wouldn't be great at the very end they pull off a
- 1:04:40mask. Tom Cruise pulled off a Tom Cruise masking was like a melee West
- 1:04:43of Bits because he's from in the first movie. It's like, at least
- 1:04:45shit, they played the long car full circle anyway, that'd be neat.
- 1:04:51I just says here. In Rolling Stone magazines June twenty eighth, nineteen ninety
- 1:04:56cover story about The Simpsons, it called Homer Simpson a man whom evolution has
- 1:05:00laughed. Hear the law again in this episode, the law against teaching evolution
- 1:05:03is struck down because angry Hommer resembles the picture of what an evolutionary missing link
- 1:05:09would actually look like. Anyway. But yeah, thank you I am dB
- 1:05:12for clearing that up for us. So it must they must say that in
- 1:05:15the audio commentary they were going for them for the music. It couldn't get
- 1:05:17a mission impossible refeah, because it must have been. I was if it
- 1:05:20doesn't have that the music don't don't don't don't don't I mean I do do
- 1:05:26do do? I was like there could be any bloody spy show from the
- 1:05:29sixties or seven talking. It was so obscure that you knew it was something.
- 1:05:31But like mission Puzzle doesn't have the puzzles they does it. I don't
- 1:05:34think so, like it feels no. I mean I think they mentioned the
- 1:05:40old TV series The Saint in there as well. They could have something to
- 1:05:42do with it maybe maybe anyway, but yeah, so so Nelson really reveals
- 1:05:47it he's the he was Millhouse in that scene, which is just weird.
- 1:05:50It just felt so out of place to have it this episode, Like what
- 1:05:54was the point? You know what? I mean? Just what why?
- 1:06:00I mean, because it's sort of like it's a spive episode. It's like,
- 1:06:01what's going on? I know there's a lot in this episode. As
- 1:06:04we said, it's got a really solid foundation, and you know, it's
- 1:06:08got some good gags that are relevant to that throughout the whole thing, but
- 1:06:11then occasional just throws in these just weird little non sequents that you know,
- 1:06:16and sometimes they work a treat, but in this case, it's like,
- 1:06:19no, you've got a perfectly good thing going here, don't you know,
- 1:06:23but a little most is like is one thing right? But like, yeah,
- 1:06:26I direct reference to something like if it was an episode it was about
- 1:06:30like spies or something like that, it would make sense, but in an
- 1:06:32episode about evolution and things like that just felt I'd like save that for an
- 1:06:35episode that makes sense. It feels like it's fitting the theme with the episode,
- 1:06:39like you're going for like a serious I know that it's not a serious
- 1:06:43moment because Millhouse's dressed this Leasa he's gonna go to go to prisoner blah blah
- 1:06:45blah blah. But it's a somewhat serious theme and then you've got this random
- 1:06:48shit in there. Yeah, I mean it's it's it's a serious part of
- 1:06:53the of the story and that you know, Lisa's faith is kind of in
- 1:06:59sciences on a dwindling, and Madge comes up with the solutions like yeah,
- 1:07:02it's gonna it's gonna be great. You know, it's like, oh,
- 1:07:03this will lead us into the final Uh it's not final acting sort of final
- 1:07:08sequence like oh cool, But then you put this weird button on the end
- 1:07:12of it with like no, that's an ass at all, that's actually Anielsen's
- 1:07:16like no, not bin. Yeah. Back at the courtroom now, mister
- 1:07:20Flaggers, you're familiar with the Bible, correct as familiar as it's proper to
- 1:07:26be. Don't worry, Lisa, I've got the answer to your problems right
- 1:07:30here. Look call me. I brought you a beers marge, a twist
- 1:07:38off. Come hurt, and you are positive that man and ape cannot be
- 1:07:46related as sure as I am that Jesus hates hip hop man open I what's
- 1:07:53in you as a matter can't where I'm trying to. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:05market face go roller, and Flanders knows where he mits you know I'm wrong
- 1:08:11because she holds up the photo of the of the missing link with with Homer.
- 1:08:15Marge can't wait to see what we're volution will make next. You know
- 1:08:18what was she just could be? I know, like a bird with a
- 1:08:23people face bear with pants on. Yes, And then Lisa says to Flanders,
- 1:08:27you know what, I respect your beliefs, but you know, I
- 1:08:29don't think you should be taught in school as much like science shouldn't be taught
- 1:08:30in church like you would believe. And then it's revealed that Todd is Nelson.
- 1:08:34I'm like, it's almost like at the last minute they're like this would
- 1:08:38be funny. It's like it just crowned these random too fucking like Nelson moments
- 1:08:41into the episode. Weird. Yeah, I mean, if you'd had one
- 1:08:44at the very start and one at the very end, like we had Nelson
- 1:08:46at the at the in the meeting, remember and then he went and went
- 1:08:48to go burn Spider. So we've already had Nelson in the episode. It's
- 1:08:51just weird, get it? But look, I mean we've said in the
- 1:08:58past, how you know a bad ending can taint a good episode, or
- 1:09:01a good ending can redeem a bad episode. This is not a good ending.
- 1:09:04I mean, well, actually, no, it's a good ending.
- 1:09:06Just that final little bit is not that great. The damage is that there's
- 1:09:11not enough damage done to make one go, hey, the monkey suits.
- 1:09:15There was a table episode. No, it was good, it was pretty.
- 1:09:16It was not a bad episode. A bit of fun with this one.
- 1:09:19Definitely enjoyed it. What do we learn Palmer? All right, what
- 1:09:23did you learn from the episode? Mister Davis? What did I learn from
- 1:09:27this episode? That I really shouldn't have studied for a Bachelor of Arts?
- 1:09:35I really should have gone for a PhD in truthology from Christian Tech? Christian
- 1:09:39Tech. Yeah, what's the closest thing we have to Christian Tech in Geelong?
- 1:09:43Yeah? Oh golly, I don't think we have anything right? No,
- 1:09:48No, I mean, I'm sure there are various religious schools like Lutheran
- 1:09:51and Catholic and all that kind of stuff, but ones that are just you
- 1:09:55know, God's best. I don't know. Well, I learned that I'm
- 1:09:59never going to beer unless he has reached third base. Get on, when
- 1:10:04that's done. From this knee forward, your names will be all right,
- 1:10:09missus Davis, It's time for the New Name Championship. We haven't done this
- 1:10:12for like five weeks. Just we're gonna know, pull back the curtain.
- 1:10:15Basically, we're about to start recording guys like we've done new names. I'm
- 1:10:18like, shit, that's right. We do extra stuff, don't we.
- 1:10:20We make extra work for ourselves around here. Dando, you were honest to
- 1:10:25a fault. We could have, you know, kept the whole ruse going
- 1:10:28that this thing is blind. I mean it is blind. You know,
- 1:10:30it's I don't know who's who's doing the who's submitting the names. We sort
- 1:10:36of pull them out of a hat blindly, and it's like, yeah,
- 1:10:39well I like that name, but I didn't know who submitted it this time.
- 1:10:42I looked at the list with the names attached, but I did not
- 1:10:45let my you know, appreciation for say, Talio and Riquez. Sorry Tarlio
- 1:10:51didn't get one of this round. I didn't let that. What did I
- 1:10:58say Talia, you said, Tyler, Yeah, I thought it was Talia.
- 1:11:01Should we start again? No? Okay, then, missen Rikers,
- 1:11:09I apologize unreservedly. But the upshot of it is, I've got three alternative
- 1:11:15titles for the Monkey Suit here. I really didn't pay too much attention to
- 1:11:21the names. I was just looking at the titles. So let's go with
- 1:11:24it. Shall we down know when I start? Or before we do that?
- 1:11:27Do you want to sort of talk about who's doing well on the leaderboard?
- 1:11:30Yes? So the current leader board stands with in third position, we
- 1:11:32have a two way tie Adam Moorehouse and David Mott. In second position,
- 1:11:38Kyle Muldoon Heath Appleby on twelve points. That the guys in the third were
- 1:11:42on ten. I don't know whether I've said that. In the first position,
- 1:11:44me have Luke McKay on seventeen points, So hit me, what did
- 1:11:45we got? It's funny you should mention that because one point goes to Luke
- 1:11:51McKay O. Luke's now in eighteen points. That makes him six clear of
- 1:11:56second way. I'm pretty sure he's gonna win because any one episode unless come
- 1:12:02less do we get three points? Now? Who knows? Unless we go
- 1:12:05for triple points or something with the final one. I don't know that would
- 1:12:09spectacular. Luke gave us a lovely Troy McLure reverence were by retitling this episode
- 1:12:15Hail to the Chimp. Hail to the Chimp. Alrighty, I think that's
- 1:12:18Troy McLure, isn't it. Yeah, Hail to the Chimp. Yes,
- 1:12:21two points go to Richard gayfar Richard alrighty? Two points now gave us Richard
- 1:12:28now on I believe three points. Richard was on one, is on three
- 1:12:31points one. Richard does one. Richard for Homer Sapiens. Not bad,
- 1:12:36not bad at all. I like it, but three points. The new
- 1:12:43name for the monkey Suit is the doll region of species You and your Does
- 1:12:47you love it? I love them? The kid is guys and that was
- 1:12:55given to us by one Fergus jeffs. Fergus Jeff STAFFORLKS is in the Okay,
- 1:13:00so Fergus is now in fourth position on nine points. Well done,
- 1:13:05Fergus. I'm near Fergus. And that is the new name challenge for the
- 1:13:12Monkey Suit episode of the Symptoms of four Finger Discard. So now Luke McKay
- 1:13:17cannot lose first position, while on Luke, you've wanted it again. Luke
- 1:13:19McKay's done it again. I'd done eighteen points. He can't lose it.
- 1:13:24He's six ahead of second. But we can see if Heath Appleby or Kyle
- 1:13:28muldoon you can get three points next week and try and claim second position and
- 1:13:31third as well. We've got David Mott and Adam Moorehouse both on ten points.
- 1:13:34All right, so now it's time we get into some mail. Bad
- 1:13:38questions, Demail demail is here. Okay, so we've got here. First
- 1:13:44question, of course, is from Andrew JP. Andrew says, favorite religious
- 1:13:46themed movie mine is the Life of Brian one of the best Monty Python movies,
- 1:13:50religious themed movies, religious themed movies of angels? Is that religious thing?
- 1:13:58Can we go of Michael? Yeah? Why not? What about you?
- 1:14:04My favorite religious theme movie is Martin Scorsese is The Last Temptation of Christ.
- 1:14:09Came out in nineteen eighty eight, starring Willem Dafoe. Was JC a
- 1:14:15writer in the US who I really respect, said it got to meet Martin
- 1:14:18Scorsese and said to him, if Church may made me feel the way Last
- 1:14:25Temptation makes me feel, I go every Sunday, and I have to agree.
- 1:14:29It's, yeah, just a terrific movie. It's it's really well put
- 1:14:32to get an incredibly acted, fantastic soundtrack by Peter Gabriel. I watch it
- 1:14:38nearly every Easter, just a sort of Okay, get back in touch with
- 1:14:42my Catholic slash religious roots a little bit, because no, no, it
- 1:14:48just works for me. It's it's a I think it's a wonderful movie.
- 1:14:51I mean, not even wonderful is the wrong term for it. Tremendous movie.
- 1:14:56Okay, I'm going to make it more lighthearted. I'm going to say,
- 1:14:58Bruce Almighty starting Jim Carrey, Can I go with that one? Absolutely?
- 1:15:01Again? It's got God in it played by Morgan Freeman. I but
- 1:15:04I remember the moment it was like I got the power and makes the fire
- 1:15:09hydrant go off. That was like killing. I was like ten would I
- 1:15:14was a be Jim Carrey fan as a kid. Were you a Jim Carrey
- 1:15:15fan in the nineties for that very brief period where he really burst out?
- 1:15:21Yeah, I mean it's like, wow, this guy is just grabbing things
- 1:15:26by the scraffling neck and shaking the hell out of it. I mean,
- 1:15:28having was it like Ace Mantua of the Mask and Dumb and Dumber, all
- 1:15:33like in the space of what seemed like eighteen months to two years. It's
- 1:15:36like, oh shit, there's guy's everywhere and he's just you know, it's
- 1:15:39so full of beans. And you know, then he did a couple of
- 1:15:43other things like The Truman Show, which you know, we reviewed on the
- 1:15:45movie Guys and both really enjoyed and both gonna let out of Eternal Sunshine of
- 1:15:50the Spotless Mine it's a fantastic movie as well. And you know there's of
- 1:15:55course movies like Bruce or Mighty La Liar. Yeah. Look, he's got
- 1:15:58a lot of good stuff to his credit. I mean, do we really
- 1:16:00hear much from him in these days? I mean, he still makes movies.
- 1:16:02I guess it still does stuff, but I think he doesn't quit Hollywood.
- 1:16:06Basically he hates he hates Hollywood. He hates everything about it. As
- 1:16:10a painter, now he does a lot of painting. Apparently artwork is really
- 1:16:14up my alley. But no, for that that period there, I mean
- 1:16:16he was just absolutely slaying it. And yeah, he was such a pleasure
- 1:16:20to watch, I mean, such a such a joy to watch one of
- 1:16:24my one of the most inspirational quotes I've ever heard was from him. He
- 1:16:27was doing like a speech up I think like maybe the university he went to
- 1:16:29or something, and he was talking about how his father was like an accountant
- 1:16:32and he hated it, you know, and then one day he just and
- 1:16:35then you know, he did it for years and years and years and though
- 1:16:38he hated it, and one day he lost his job. And he goes,
- 1:16:41in that moment, I realized, after twenty years or whatever, you
- 1:16:44know, just lost his job. That was it. And He's like,
- 1:16:45in that moment, I realized, And it's what sort of inspired me to
- 1:16:47sort of do this podcast. I think quit my job. He was like,
- 1:16:49you can fail doing what you don't love, so he may as well
- 1:16:53take a chance doing what you do love. You know, makes a lot
- 1:16:57of sense. Well, well said Jim, and well well followed Dando.
- 1:17:00Yes, all right. Next question here comes from Talia, and it gets
- 1:17:03She says, what is your opinion over the fact that successes of dinosaurs are
- 1:17:06actually chickens and other birds you look at like crows and magpies. You're like,
- 1:17:11you guys, are the t rex of like the Australian Wilock. What
- 1:17:15should they walk around? It's like they know they're the king. I've seen
- 1:17:18I've seen a fucking crow just pick up a sparrow and just fly off with
- 1:17:21it, you know. Oh yeah, that's funny. A good friend of
- 1:17:26mine she had a stage where, you know, she was putting minced out
- 1:17:30for these for these magpies and crows and they'd come and get it and they
- 1:17:32were like very friendly and they might need to do that. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:17:35they bring like a little rock back or something. It's like, you
- 1:17:38know, I'm not I'm not a free loader here you go to this payment
- 1:17:41all that kind of stuff, Like, oh, these guys have clearly got
- 1:17:44a little bit going on upstairs. Intend to think, Oh they're cute and
- 1:17:46they're you know, they've got their communities and all that. One day I
- 1:17:49walked on my back door and they were like two crows that had either killed
- 1:17:54or found this other dead bird and they were just like dissecting it with their
- 1:17:57beaks and just ripping in it. Even like oh my god. It's like
- 1:18:01it was like, you know, walking on your parents having sex or something.
- 1:18:08Yeah. Look, I don't disagree with the whole yeah thing. About
- 1:18:13birds and chickens and all that kind of stuff being evolved from evolved from dinosaurs.
- 1:18:17I love the idea that you know, there are some species that have
- 1:18:20just evolved. They don't need to evolve anymore. They're just perfect as there.
- 1:18:25They've sort of reached. Like it's like crocodiles or sharks. It's like,
- 1:18:30no, we don't need to, you know, improve anymore. We
- 1:18:33can do. We're we're apexed it. We've polly apexed. It's funny when
- 1:18:41you talk about dinosaurs and the evolution been chickens because you think of Veloso rapp
- 1:18:45is. Apparently Veloso rap has actually had feathers like the size of chickens.
- 1:18:47Right, they're like big chickens. I've heard that. Yeah, that's why
- 1:18:49people say that Steven Spielberg as great as he as great as his films were,
- 1:18:53just the park bringing interest back to dinosaurs and things like that. They're
- 1:18:57completely shaped kids, mind, it's what dinosaurs actually were, Like Doloposaurus,
- 1:19:01right, didn't have the frills. He added that for the visual effect for
- 1:19:03the movie. But like some things were Delosaurus. Now they think of the
- 1:19:09fucking frill neck lizard. Right, they didn't have that floss raptors didn't look
- 1:19:15like that at all. You know, it's just big Steve. You if
- 1:19:25you heard our latest going down the South like you're not, we're talking about
- 1:19:28there. All right, we'll do We'll do one more question. Okay,
- 1:19:30Adam Warhouse. So museums, what's the course artifactor presentational collection you've ever seen?
- 1:19:34I will never forget walking into the museum in I believe it was New
- 1:19:38York and seeing the skeleton of the t rex. I was like, oh,
- 1:19:43yeah, that's actually that's a fucking dinosaur. But that's like, that's
- 1:19:46actually a real dinosaur. I got to knock you out. Yeah, it
- 1:19:50was crazy. I was just like wow, like, no, these things
- 1:19:54did exist and they were that big. Yeah. Please your mind when you
- 1:19:59when you're when you see them the bones, it's like wait a minute.
- 1:20:01No, Whilst you know, we've got toys of them and we watched them
- 1:20:04movies and things like that, when you see the bones, it is like,
- 1:20:08wait a minute, these things actually existed and they ran this planet.
- 1:20:12You know. Yeah, I don't know. The jury is still out on
- 1:20:15that one day. And though I think they're you know, I think God
- 1:20:18might have put some dinosaur bones there just to mess with it. Ranking the
- 1:20:25order is from Ian Acidly Ranking the order in which your favorite song of the
- 1:20:27following Arctic Monkeys, the Monkeys, gorillas, ranking the order, and which
- 1:20:30is your favorite? Okay, so your three? So how do you have
- 1:20:33Arctic Monkeys, the monkeys and gorillas and what was your favorite song? I
- 1:20:40get the feeling Arctic Monkeys. I mean I know of them, and i'd
- 1:20:44probably know some of their songs if you if you've played them for me right
- 1:20:46now. But at the same time, I think they might have been around
- 1:20:48in the period where I was like, music's not really for me anymore,
- 1:20:54or I would have trouble. Like anyone who's a fan of Arctic Monkeys is
- 1:20:58probably going to be like, oh my god, guy, you suck,
- 1:21:00because I mean, like I'm like acting monkeys they are they like imagine dragons.
- 1:21:03I mixed up the Hives and the Strokes, for instance. So it's
- 1:21:06that kind of thing. So I'm gonna I'm gonna take you out of your
- 1:21:09questioning love the latest the New Arctic Monkeys music like that that they're When they
- 1:21:14first came out, they were like you've heard that. I bet you look
- 1:21:15good on the dance floor. You know that song. Oh, very British
- 1:21:19pop rock kind of sort of kind of style, right, but now they've
- 1:21:24evolved into more of like a band ead sea at a fucking jazz jazz hall,
- 1:21:28you know what I mean. Like that's like a Swoons. Like they're
- 1:21:30completely different. And I remember I listened to I watched them live. I'm
- 1:21:33like, guy, would did this? I just sending this video like I
- 1:21:35feel like you'd really like I feel like you'd really like the Actic Monkeys,
- 1:21:39like the Monkeys after we're done here. So look, I'll send you some
- 1:21:44songs because their last album, they're released like last year. I wasn't a
- 1:21:46fan. I have to They're one of those bands where every album is completely
- 1:21:50different from the previous one, Right, the first two were very similar,
- 1:21:53then they evolve each one and you listen to it and it's because it's not
- 1:21:57what you are used to. You're like, oh, this is crap,
- 1:22:00and then when you listen to it after a while, you're like, oh,
- 1:22:01no, this is actually pretty good. So I'll send you a couple
- 1:22:03of songs that I think are worth listening to, and we'll see. We'll
- 1:22:06get you your thoughts on the next episode. Of four figure discus. I
- 1:22:10only appreciate that, but my apologies to Winn Astley. Okay Rick Astley,
- 1:22:13but yeah, first, the monkeys are gorillas, a big gorillas for you,
- 1:22:16right, Oh, it's absolutely gorillas. Gorillas is is topping that list.
- 1:22:20And my favorite song of there's is Dare. I love Dare? Okay,
- 1:22:25although what's the one that has my mend Bruce Willis and the film clip?
- 1:22:30But that was kind of good. I just know that that's Dare,
- 1:22:34isn't all? Oh no, that might be something gorillas stylo Is it the
- 1:22:40one? Yeah? Yeah, stylo. Yeah, there you go, stylo.
- 1:22:44Uh and yeah, the Monkeys come second, and I would say day
- 1:22:47Dream Believer with them a little over that so maybe last train to Clarksville.
- 1:22:50Okay, Now they have the song I was singing, by the way,
- 1:22:53is feel good inc. That's the song that I was sinking before. That's
- 1:22:55right also good? Yes, yeah, that one a song for some reason
- 1:23:00I'm really did get. The Arctic Monkeys is from like two albums ago,
- 1:23:01like long a decade ago and I reckon When it came out, it's called
- 1:23:04number one Party Anthem. I like send it to my sister yesterday. I'm
- 1:23:08like, it was what I've done recently is for like the last five years,
- 1:23:12I said to Nicola, all have been listening to his fucking kids songs,
- 1:23:15you know, Spidy songs and the Wiggles and shit, And I said,
- 1:23:17I want to start listening to my music again. So now in the
- 1:23:20car, I just put on my music and I'm going back and read listening
- 1:23:24to all the bands that I used to like love when I was like,
- 1:23:26you know these that shape you between fifteen and say twenty one twenty two,
- 1:23:29all these bands that I really liked, like Arctic Monkeys and Hives you brought
- 1:23:32up the Highs before and things like that, And I'm like, it's bringing
- 1:23:34back all these like feelings and emotions. I'm like, i feel like I'm
- 1:23:38coming alive again. I'm like, oh, this is who I am.
- 1:23:43It's it's the great and magical thing about music is the is the the the
- 1:23:46instant time machine. Yeah, from the youth as well. I'm reborn.
- 1:23:51I was like, oh, I'm becoming me again. I'm listening to my
- 1:23:54music and yeah, like I remember, yeah, that's great last night and
- 1:23:57they can just stay in the car. I put the Arctic Monkeys album one.
- 1:24:00It's like randomized John Shuffle and Spotify and number one party Anthem came on
- 1:24:04and I was waiting for like Nicola, she was like going into the post
- 1:24:08office. I'm sitting there and I instantly just closed my eyes and smartest to
- 1:24:11start swaying, and I'm like, it's it's like, I'm just I know,
- 1:24:15I've become me again. I was just like, it's amazing, how
- 1:24:16like the music and just can immediately just transports you to another world, you
- 1:24:20know, yeah, oh god, yeah, absolutely, oh yeah. I
- 1:24:24mean it just makes vivid and crystal clear the memories of that particular time when
- 1:24:31you were hearing it. Yeah, oh god, Yeah, all right,
- 1:24:34good question, thanks for Ian Astley. And final one he Andy Gangla.
- 1:24:38If you have to pick a famous monkey or ape to be a relative,
- 1:24:41who would you choose. I'd go Donkey Kong as as my uncle. He
- 1:24:44still got it, he still got it, still got it. There was
- 1:24:49a cartoon in the seventies when I was going up called the Great Grape Ape.
- 1:24:54Oh yeah, yeah, fifty feet high and apparently a hell of a
- 1:24:59guy. So yeah, I'm going to choose him. Yeah apparently. So
- 1:25:02the jury still out on that one. What about the monkey from Rampage to
- 1:25:05the video game, Like, he'd be a cool little big brother to have.
- 1:25:09He'd defend you absolutely, And no, what fuck if you if you
- 1:25:12had Rampage, they took my milk? Money comes out? Fucks everybody up.
- 1:25:18Who would be the most embarrassing ape relative to have rand the guy that
- 1:25:23would always ruin Christmas? Oh? Do you know that movie Nope? No
- 1:25:30by Jordan Peel who did get Out. I don't don't know John Peele is,
- 1:25:34I don't know the movie Nope though, okay, Nopes his latest one,
- 1:25:38Okay, the last one he did was Usked that I saw. Yeah,
- 1:25:42yeah, Well Nope came out I think last year or the year before,
- 1:25:44but it's on Netflix now. Didn't respond to a couple of it.
- 1:25:48Didn't respond to that as Nope anyway continues, that's such a writer. There
- 1:25:57is a bit, well, some some pivotal stuff in Nope involves a chimp
- 1:26:02that does some very bad things. So yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna say,
- 1:26:09Gordy the chimp from Nope, I'm not the one you won around.
- 1:26:12I'm thinking the monkey that became a viral sensation when the Internet first came around
- 1:26:15that sniffed its own ars and fell up the bait the branch. Remember that
- 1:26:16guy, Oh all the monkey the peas in its own man. Yes,
- 1:26:23yes, it's one of those guys. Will be will be the most I
- 1:26:25ever told you that. You told me about it numerous times. That's true
- 1:26:30off air, and now everybody knows it's not true. It never happened.
- 1:26:38A good mate of mine, who was a music review reviewed Jet's first album,
- 1:26:42not Jet Your Lovely Dog, but Jet the Stream. He did not
- 1:26:45like it, and instead of writing anything, he just put a clip of
- 1:26:49a monkey pizzing in its own mouth. Really didn't like. I think it
- 1:26:54got the most. I got the most kids that I was like a teenager.
- 1:26:57But so that came out in two thousand and three, I want to
- 1:26:59say so I would have been how old fifteen ishif fourteen fifteen? So it
- 1:27:03was right in my wheelhouse. It was huge for our our demo. Oh
- 1:27:09yeah, look, I won't say I'm a fan, but I mean I
- 1:27:13can listen to it and go like Girl is one of the most iconic songs
- 1:27:17of that era. They're pretty good pop songs. I mean in terms of
- 1:27:20like dn't dn't dn't didn't. Yeah, I mean, you're gonna sort of
- 1:27:25like you're gonna shake your head. The fucking there's no wonder that Jobs use
- 1:27:28it for the iPod, you know what I mean? Oh yeah, so
- 1:27:30you know, hopefully Nick Chester and the best of the jet Boy and the
- 1:27:34rest of the jet Boys of you know, cashing quite nicely. And you
- 1:27:38know I can now you know, I sit on a beachourne in twenty percent.
- 1:27:41I wonder how much Jet were paid for the use of that song in
- 1:27:45the original iPod ad because who would who was to know that the iPod was
- 1:27:47going to be the success that it became, right, you know, but
- 1:27:50you've just we've all seen the Jobs film. We've let you know that the
- 1:27:54iPod Apple were nearly fucked. You know, the iPods saved them. So
- 1:27:59I won't if they will pay like a one if feet or whether they had
- 1:28:01like residuals like because you would have hoped a guy that you would have gone
- 1:28:04residuals, But how would you have known that you would have gone, Well,
- 1:28:06it gonna be paid played for years. I want my money. I
- 1:28:10guess maybe for commercials it's always residuals forever, is it? I don't know.
- 1:28:14I don't know either. I mean it's something to look into, because
- 1:28:16you know, I'm our acting and writing friends in the US are currently walking
- 1:28:20around with their pickets own saying, yeah, still give us, give us
- 1:28:24some more money, and then after that, give us some more money.
- 1:28:26That's that's been gone for like three months now, right, if not more,
- 1:28:29that's been going on a while. It really has how much Jet paid
- 1:28:32for iPod commercial? Let's see if it's got anything on here? Look?
- 1:28:39Uh no, that is a picture of the guy from Deat saying none of
- 1:28:45all business anyway? All right? That is our review of the Monkey Suit.
- 1:28:49The next episode of four Fingered Discount. What does the final episode let's
- 1:28:53have look Simpson's season seventeen. Haven't looked up? Yets? Homer and Marge
- 1:28:57do something something. I'm much something, isn't it? Yeah, Homer and
- 1:28:59Marge margin Homer. Marge and Homer turn a couple play. So we shall
- 1:29:03find out what that's about in next week's episode of four figuring this scamp.
