- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Of course, I am your host, Clay and with me
- 0:28Speaker 2: like every single week. Of course, is Katie, Katie? How
- 0:32Speaker 2: you doing?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Hello there, I'm doing okay. If you were following along
- 0:37Speaker 1: on social media this afternoon, I posted that I had
- 0:40Speaker 1: a migraine attack, but it looks to be abated. That
- 0:44Speaker 1: was me knocking on You can't see my desk, but
- 0:48Speaker 1: that was me knocking on wood. Oh.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I just want to also give a really quick shout
- 0:53Speaker 2: out because you said I can't see your desk. I
- 0:57Speaker 2: also can't see if you are wearing a Star Wars shirt.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It is what we do on Wednesdays. I want to
- 1:04Speaker 2: give a shout out to Coal's Coals. Yes, Coles, if
- 1:11Speaker 2: you want to sponsor us. There is a like selection
- 1:17Speaker 2: of like ten Star Wars shirts at Coals alone. I
- 1:24Speaker 2: actually got this one and I donate Plasma every single week.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I told Abby I'm going to buy a new shirt
- 1:32Speaker 2: every single time I donate Plasma. They are only fifteen dollars, okay,
- 1:37Speaker 2: so it is not a bad deal whatsoever. I really
- 1:42Speaker 2: like this retro one and actually Amber Lynn shows this one,
- 1:46Speaker 2: so I really really like it. But yeah, I just
- 1:50Speaker 2: want to give a shout out to Cole's for having
- 1:52Speaker 2: an awesome Star Wars selection for apparel sponsored exactly, not sponsored,
- 2:00Speaker 2: but could be. Guys. This week we actually have some
- 2:06Speaker 2: decent amount of news. Of course, there was New York
- 2:11Speaker 2: Comic Con, and like we expected, there were some announcements,
- 2:17Speaker 2: so we will be talking about those as well as,
- 2:21Speaker 2: of course the release of the Star Wars Revenge of
- 2:27Speaker 2: the Sith Deluxe Edition novelization. We're going to be talking
- 2:31Speaker 2: about the annotations. We already did the review two weeks ago,
- 2:37Speaker 2: so we're not going to do a review of the book.
- 2:39Speaker 2: We're only going to be talking about the annotations. Katie
- 2:44Speaker 2: outlined four specific categories in which we were gonna be
- 2:51Speaker 2: looking at these annotations, so we or I broke them down,
- 2:58Speaker 2: not all of them, because there's like over one hundred
- 3:01Speaker 2: and seventy of them. That's the other thing. We're gonna
- 3:04Speaker 2: only be talking about some of our favorite ones. So yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 2: there's a lot.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I had probably like sixty bookmarks and I boiled it
- 3:15Speaker 1: down into twenty two, which we're not gonna Like Clay said,
- 3:20Speaker 1: we're not talking verbatim every annotation, but there are some
- 3:24Speaker 1: that I wanted to be able to flip through and go, yeah,
- 3:26Speaker 1: that's the what I was referencing in my post it
- 3:29Speaker 1: notes because Clay was more organized about this than I
- 3:32Speaker 1: was this time.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I actually have a full breakdown of the category,
- 3:37Speaker 2: and then I wrote the chapter and then the annotation
- 3:42Speaker 2: that it corresponds to. I'll go ahead and say my
- 3:48Speaker 2: Easter egg explanations are essentially all the same thing, because
- 3:53Speaker 2: I thought it was really cool something that he did
- 3:56Speaker 2: in this book, and so I will talk about that
- 3:59Speaker 2: when we get down to it. But let's go ahead
- 4:03Speaker 2: and start off with Well, first off, I also want
- 4:08Speaker 2: to say Katie mentioned social media. We do have the
- 4:11Speaker 2: banner here up on the YouTube. Please find us on
- 4:16Speaker 2: Blue Sky and on Instagram. If you find us on Instagram,
- 4:20Speaker 2: you can also follow us on threads. It's at Star
- 4:22Speaker 2: Wars Alliance. Of course, there is no a in the
- 4:24Speaker 2: word Wars. It's very important, don't forget it. But yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 2: let's go ahead and jump into the New York Comic
- 4:33Speaker 2: Con news. The big thing here is just the publishing.
- 4:41Speaker 2: There was no like big movie news or TV show
- 4:47Speaker 2: stuff or anything like that. It was all publishing. So
- 4:55Speaker 2: where do you want to start?
- 4:57Speaker 1: So, first of all, Star Wars news Net has very
- 5:01Speaker 1: good summary article guys of there's a New York Comic Con.
- 5:06Speaker 1: If you guys want to read all the summaries and
- 5:09Speaker 1: everything about the things that we're gonna be talking about,
- 5:13Speaker 1: we're not gonna read it. R babotim I seem to
- 5:15Speaker 1: be having internet issues, so literally the only tab I
- 5:18Speaker 1: have open right now is Streamyard. Everything else on my
- 5:21Speaker 1: four monitors setup is closed to try and preserve everything.
- 5:26Speaker 1: So first of all, I think we need to get
- 5:31Speaker 1: this out of the water before anything else. So the
- 5:35Speaker 1: first the two big things from this panel was the
- 5:39Speaker 1: announcement of another Random House World book that is going
- 5:42Speaker 1: to be coming out next July, and it's entitled Star
- 5:47Speaker 1: Wars Legacy and it is about Ray and Leah's Jedi
- 5:53Speaker 1: training experience between the Last Jedi and the Rise of Skywalker.
- 6:02Speaker 1: The other piece of big news because this topic that
- 6:05Speaker 1: I want to talk about and just get out of
- 6:06Speaker 1: the way. I first things first has to do with
- 6:09Speaker 1: both books. The second book that was announced was an
- 6:15Speaker 1: official launch of a Star Wars romance line, and this book,
- 6:20Speaker 1: can you remind me what this book's called.
- 6:22Speaker 2: This book is titled I have it right here, hold
- 6:27Speaker 2: on Eyes Like.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Stars, right, and so both of these books obviously directly
- 6:39Speaker 1: targeted towards women. Eyes Like Stars is going to be
- 6:44Speaker 1: taking place one pipe one point five years before The
- 6:49Speaker 1: Force Awakens and is written by Ashley Boston I believe yes,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and Madeline Roe I believe I pronounced that correctly is
- 7:00Speaker 1: going to be writing Star Wars Legacy. Both books seem
- 7:05Speaker 1: to be coming out next July summer time frame, so
- 7:10Speaker 1: super cool for us. Clay and I and I say,
- 7:13Speaker 1: the romance book is written specifically for women. Obviously, book
- 7:18Speaker 1: talk very big into romance at the moment, so creating
- 7:23Speaker 1: Star Wars romance not out of the water, considering how
- 7:28Speaker 1: hyped up it is right now? What do you think about.
- 7:31Speaker 2: So I have I have said this sentiment like six
- 7:37Speaker 2: bajillion times since this announcement. I have found my way
- 7:41Speaker 2: into different conversations on Instagram, on TikTok, and on Twitter. Uh,
- 7:49Speaker 2: and mostly the vibe for this book, uh shine like
- 7:55Speaker 2: Stars or what was it called again, Like Stars is
- 7:59Speaker 2: over all positive.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Uh.
- 8:01Speaker 2: There is you know the party poopers out there that
- 8:05Speaker 2: are like romance, which is very stupid. But I saw
- 8:14Speaker 2: this and I said fing finally. Yeah not and and
- 8:23Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, like I have given the romance
- 8:27Speaker 2: genre a chance, I am still open to always reading
- 8:32Speaker 2: something new. I still need to read Fourth Wing. It's
- 8:39Speaker 2: still on my to read pile. But this is a
- 8:44Speaker 2: whole new like not a whole new This is a
- 8:49Speaker 2: younger tier romance novel. This is a white a romance novel.
- 8:55Speaker 2: But the reason why I said fing finally was not
- 8:59Speaker 2: for the romance genre. It was, Hey, I'm finally gonna
- 9:05Speaker 2: read a book that's not about the damn Skywalkers. That
- 9:11Speaker 2: is why I said f and finally now, And y'all, I.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Have not introduced him to other books that don't start
- 9:19Speaker 1: Star Skywalkers.
- 9:20Speaker 2: And that's the other thing. I know that there's other
- 9:23Speaker 2: books that star other characters. Now here's the difference. The
- 9:31Speaker 2: difference for now, what I see is every other Star
- 9:38Speaker 2: Wars book that features somebody who isn't a Skywalker directly
- 9:43Speaker 2: or indirectly connects to a Skywalker.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yep.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And I still find that it, Like, even this book
- 9:53Speaker 2: is one point five years before the Rise or before
- 9:58Speaker 2: Force awakens, there may be a tiny like connection to
- 10:04Speaker 2: a Skywalker. But I see this in the same light
- 10:12Speaker 2: as I see the short story romance story of it
- 10:19Speaker 2: was in a certain point of view Return of the
- 10:21Speaker 2: Jedi in Java's Palace. Yep. It was one of the
- 10:27Speaker 2: longest stories in that book. And we gushed over it.
- 10:33Speaker 2: We saw we thought like, this should be its own book.
- 10:37Speaker 2: This is amazing, like the the the love story between them,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and like, oh, well, my father was a slave to this,
- 10:47Speaker 2: and so I took over this and da da da,
- 10:48Speaker 2: and like, oh, I don't care if you're a slave,
- 10:50Speaker 2: let's run the way together. Like it was all gushing
- 10:53Speaker 2: and super like just it was great. It was great.
- 10:58Speaker 2: I loved it. I see this, I see this cover
- 11:02Speaker 2: of this book, and I get those vibes. That's what
- 11:07Speaker 2: I want more of it is oh, go ahead, go ahead.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And there is other books in Star Wars that revolve
- 11:17Speaker 1: around romance. Crash of Fate, Lost Stars, we will all
- 11:21Speaker 1: make an effort to get Yes.
- 11:22Speaker 2: I saw, I saw a video from Star Wars explained
- 11:27Speaker 2: uh that was also reiterating the fact that there is
- 11:31Speaker 2: other romance novels. We read one this year, Temptation Convergence.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Temptation of the Force was another one. There are romance novels.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I think this one specifically though, when you look at Convergence,
- 11:47Speaker 2: when you look at Temptation of the Force.
- 11:50Speaker 1: There science fiction with a hint of romance.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yes, it is not the main genre with science fiction, yes,
- 11:59Speaker 2: and I think that is the big.
- 12:03Speaker 1: It's basically it's both genres. It's going to be even keeled.
- 12:10Speaker 1: The thing that I need to go ahead and get
- 12:13Speaker 1: out of the way is the idiots on the internet
- 12:16Speaker 1: who is like, oh, we definitely see Star Wars is
- 12:19Speaker 1: catering now to a solely female audience.
- 12:28Speaker 2: That's so stupid.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And in particular, there was one who comes from a
- 12:33Speaker 1: very reputable site that we have cited on here before
- 12:38Speaker 1: as a source for O gosh, like, it's ridiculous how
- 12:46Speaker 1: much fanboys are like, well, this doesn't cater to me,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and I saw it several places. But guess what, you
- 12:52Speaker 1: don't have to read it. And Tom the editor for
- 12:58Speaker 1: random one of the editors for Random House World, set
- 13:00Speaker 1: it best Star Wars books would not be here without
- 13:04Speaker 1: women up.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yes, Like when you when you look at my entire
- 13:13Speaker 2: Star Wars section, a majority of those books are written
- 13:21Speaker 2: by women.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Yep. And just because it's a Star Wars romance, but
- 13:28Speaker 1: most of the commons I saw were towards the romance book,
- 13:31Speaker 1: Like the author has already gotten death threats, y'all, Like Christ,
- 13:36Speaker 1: chill out because this is ridiculous. There's no reason to
- 13:40Speaker 1: treat an author, Okay, So.
- 13:42Speaker 2: My question is to everybody out there, do you threaten
- 13:50Speaker 2: other romance authors just for the fact that they write romance?
- 13:58Speaker 2: Because that's essentially what you were doing with this. So
- 14:05Speaker 2: did you give the creators of Young Jedi Adventures death
- 14:11Speaker 2: threats because they made Star Wars for kids? Like, it
- 14:16Speaker 2: doesn't make any sense. What are you doing?
- 14:19Speaker 1: It's so stupid And it goes back to what Tom
- 14:23Speaker 1: has said that they had had problems recruiting people to
- 14:26Speaker 1: write Star Wars. And I can't remember who the publisher
- 14:32Speaker 1: is for Eyes Like Stars. Let me see if my
- 14:33Speaker 1: Internet will cooperate.
- 14:36Speaker 2: So for Eyes Like Stars, it does say it on
- 14:40Speaker 2: the actual like announcement, like on the video it said
- 14:48Speaker 2: that it's Del Corte.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Press, Dela Courte Press.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Della Corte Press.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah, so it looks like that is another print of
- 15:01Speaker 1: Penguin Random House Oka. So it's very much like how
- 15:06Speaker 1: their young adult section is publishing, like they publish the
- 15:09Speaker 1: Crystal Crown, They're gonna publish the Last Order. So it
- 15:15Speaker 1: makes sense if Disney has been like, hey, dude, like
- 15:18Speaker 1: here's the here's the sole publishing rights for Star Wars books,
- 15:23Speaker 1: like have at it, that Random House would be like, Okay,
- 15:26Speaker 1: we're gonna go write a romance book.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:28Speaker 1: That's what publishers do is they say what's the trend
- 15:31Speaker 1: right now, and the trend is romance, and Star Wars
- 15:35Speaker 1: is behind getting into it for like a legit romance novel.
- 15:40Speaker 2: We have said numerous times the best Star Wars is
- 15:47Speaker 2: when they jump into other genres. We've seen some of
- 15:53Speaker 2: the best of like George Man going into horror aspects
- 15:59Speaker 2: with The High Republic. We have enjoyed convergence, sumpation of
- 16:04Speaker 2: the force getting into that romance style.
- 16:10Speaker 3: We we love seeing it on screen of like the
- 16:15Speaker 3: Western Star Wars genre, like they can jump into any
- 16:22Speaker 3: genre and they should not be getting death threats because
- 16:26Speaker 3: of it.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yep.
- 16:28Speaker 1: And this imprint of Random House Worlds is the oldest
- 16:32Speaker 1: imprint at Random House Worlds. So like the fact that
- 16:36Speaker 1: we have other people publishing Star Wars and getting the
- 16:40Speaker 1: recognition that an old imprint will bring is phenomenal, and
- 16:45Speaker 1: that's something to be appreciated because that means you were
- 16:48Speaker 1: bringing more people to Star Wars. There's people who look
- 16:51Speaker 1: at a publisher and go, I'm gonna only get things
- 16:53Speaker 1: from that publisher. They're out there. I don't know why,
- 16:56Speaker 1: but that's what people do.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Like I mean, it's it's the same as for comics.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You know, Oh, I'm only gonna get Marvel, or I'm oh,
- 17:02Speaker 2: I'm only gonna get DC. I'm only gonna get Image
- 17:05Speaker 2: like I because a couple months back, I when I
- 17:10Speaker 2: was really in the thick of getting into just reading novels,
- 17:16Speaker 2: I was looking for, Hey, how many publishers are there.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I was trying to see which publisher I would gravitate towards,
- 17:26Speaker 2: just like I try to do with comics. I couldn't
- 17:29Speaker 2: do it because there was such an overwhelming amount of
- 17:32Speaker 2: publishers out there in the world right now. Yep.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's it's so beneficial to have a diverse media core,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and we saw that with the High Republic. So bringing
- 17:45Speaker 1: this into this makes sense. And so I'm so happy
- 17:49Speaker 1: that Lucasfilm has kind of gone. I don't know if
- 17:53Speaker 1: they've gone to Penguin Random House and gone like, look,
- 17:56Speaker 1: we're closing down certain elements of publishing. We'd like to
- 17:59Speaker 1: hand you guys our worst book contract, like have at
- 18:01Speaker 1: it go wild or if Lucasfilm is like saying like, hey,
- 18:07Speaker 1: we want this publisher to publish this, like.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I would like to. I would like to be a
- 18:12Speaker 2: fly on that wall when they made that decision. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 2: just to see if we can expect some of this
- 18:18Speaker 2: in the future from other publishers, you know.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm so happy that it's coming, Like this is
- 18:25Speaker 1: super exciting for me, Like it helps with the episode
- 18:29Speaker 1: planning for next year because now I know, Okay, hey,
- 18:32Speaker 1: we need to read Lost Stars because you need your
- 18:35Speaker 1: first exposure to a true Star Wars romancelf like Lost
- 18:39Speaker 1: Stars is phenomenal. So I'm really excited for us to
- 18:43Speaker 1: dive into that next year. But the other book that
- 18:48Speaker 1: was announced because we kind of skimmed past it, but
- 18:51Speaker 1: Star Wars Legacy, I'm super excited for this book. Like
- 18:55Speaker 1: I think Black Widow taught me a big lesson about Hey,
- 18:59Speaker 1: just because you know how a character ins their story
- 19:03Speaker 1: doesn't mean that you can't have fun with it along
- 19:06Speaker 1: the way and fill in the same details. And I
- 19:09Speaker 1: do think, because one of the biggest questions from the
- 19:13Speaker 1: Rise of Skywalker was, like Ray and Lea interacted for
- 19:17Speaker 1: five minutes, how did they become a relationship so much
- 19:21Speaker 1: so that Ray goes Lea was my master, I'm going
- 19:26Speaker 1: to take on the family name of Skywalker. Yeah, Like,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I think that's a big question, and so I'm so
- 19:32Speaker 1: glad that this gets to be answered in such a
- 19:35Speaker 1: way and to also truly focus on repairing the Skywalker Lightsaber,
- 19:42Speaker 1: Like I know everybody wants Ray to have her own lightsaber,
- 19:45Speaker 1: and I do think this is a sign that we
- 19:48Speaker 1: are going to see Ray and the sequel trilogy people
- 19:51Speaker 1: coming forth in other novels, other forms of media, and
- 19:55Speaker 1: we're going to get that yellow lightsaber, but that Skywalker
- 19:59Speaker 1: lightsaber hill is a very big part of it, of
- 20:02Speaker 1: the Skywalker saga legacy, and so I'm so excited to
- 20:07Speaker 1: see that repair take place, get more into the ancient
- 20:10Speaker 1: Jedi text that Rey has. I think this is going
- 20:14Speaker 1: to be super special. The summary is out, guys for
- 20:16Speaker 1: both of these books, Like I said, go check out
- 20:19Speaker 1: Star Wars news Net or the publishing like they're already
- 20:22Speaker 1: up on Amazon and stuff. So yeah, but I'm super excited.
- 20:28Speaker 1: What do you feel about this book?
- 20:30Speaker 2: I am super excited about this book because somebody pointed out,
- 20:35Speaker 2: and I'll actually show it here on screen via my phone,
- 20:41Speaker 2: somebody pointed out that Legacy has the exact same color
- 20:46Speaker 2: scheme as Master and Apprentice. Now, I read or we
- 20:52Speaker 2: read Master and Apprentice right before or right after we
- 20:59Speaker 2: read Padawan, I can't remember. It was after. I really
- 21:05Speaker 2: enjoyed Master and Apprentice. I thought it was a very
- 21:09Speaker 2: fun read. It brought a new light to the relationship
- 21:13Speaker 2: between Obi Wan and Qui Gon. And if that book
- 21:20Speaker 2: in any way inspired Legacy, I'm all in one and yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 2: I think it is very important to now that we
- 21:37Speaker 2: have been for the last ten years in regards to
- 21:42Speaker 2: like comic books as well, been filling in the gaps
- 21:46Speaker 2: between movies, TV shows and all of these other things
- 21:52Speaker 2: that we start touching up on these spaces of the
- 21:57Speaker 2: most recent content that we've absorbed, which is the sequel trilogy.
- 22:03Speaker 2: The fact that we do get lay again, I am
- 22:05Speaker 2: very excited about that. There was another person that was like,
- 22:11Speaker 2: oh man, to you know, Filony has all of this
- 22:15Speaker 2: at his fingertips and he just throws it to publishing
- 22:19Speaker 2: it's a little bit of a dig I somewhat agree,
- 22:24Speaker 2: but I love books. We love books, we love reviewing
- 22:29Speaker 2: these books on this show, so it doesn't hurt us.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I can get the sentiment of people preferring TV shows
- 22:37Speaker 2: animation compared to books, but it's neither here or there. Yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 2: I'm excited for this.
- 22:49Speaker 1: No, sorry, finish your thought.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Well. There was also somebody did bring up the fact
- 22:55Speaker 2: that they thought it was kind of funny that this
- 22:58Speaker 2: book being titled Legacy while there is a ongoing book
- 23:07Speaker 2: for comics right now called The Legacy of Vader, we
- 23:10Speaker 2: get two legacy titles.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Oh, I hadn't heard of that one. I had heard
- 23:16Speaker 1: the oh why are we reusing Star Wars Legacy from
- 23:21Speaker 1: Kid Skywalker comics?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Oh yes, I had seen that one as well. But
- 23:28Speaker 2: I as a positive. People were saying they thought it
- 23:31Speaker 2: was cool that Kyler Rinn is getting a legacy now
- 23:36Speaker 2: Ray is now also getting a legacy book as well.
- 23:41Speaker 2: So yeah, very excited for it.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Sorry, has been just texting me about insurance problems.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Oh no, but the panel did not stop there, The
- 23:57Speaker 2: publishing did not stop there. Those are the only I
- 24:00Speaker 2: think king on.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Sorry. Before we moved to comics. That was the only
- 24:06Speaker 1: novels that is correct. But in case people were curious
- 24:10Speaker 1: as to what Madeline Rue and Ashley post In post
- 24:15Speaker 1: post I think It's posting have published. Madeline Rue is
- 24:20Speaker 1: best known for her blog turn novel Alison Hewitt Is Trapped,
- 24:25Speaker 1: which is a zombie uh fiction story. But recently, uh,
- 24:32Speaker 1: they have published what If Loki Was Worthy? A Loki
- 24:36Speaker 1: and Valkyrie story.
- 24:45Speaker 2: That book is great. Yeah, I.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Have gotten I think about the seventy five percent of
- 24:54Speaker 1: the way through. I need to finish it, especially now.
- 24:57Speaker 1: But then she also wrote one my favorite stories from
- 25:01Speaker 1: from a certain point of view, the Breha Orghana story,
- 25:07Speaker 1: which oh yeah, talks about like her and bail At
- 25:13Speaker 1: like right as he gets back to Alderant and the
- 25:15Speaker 1: death Star coming in Heartbreaker of a story. Let me
- 25:19Speaker 1: tell you one of my favorites from from a certain
- 25:22Speaker 1: point of view, the original one. And then Ashley Postin
- 25:28Speaker 1: is best known for her romance and.
- 25:31Speaker 2: You know, well, I was gonna say, uh, there was
- 25:34Speaker 2: some people. I don't know if they were just saying
- 25:37Speaker 2: this just to be funny, but did Ashley write a
- 25:42Speaker 2: like uh Railo romance like knockoff?
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yes, that is what I had heard. I don't know
- 25:53Speaker 1: exactly which one. I think it's the Dead Romantics. But
- 25:57Speaker 1: I saw on the line that a lot of people, oh,
- 26:00Speaker 1: another Raylow author like Ea, but she so she I
- 26:06Speaker 1: think she's best known for the Dead Romantics.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Uh.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And then obviously she's got I was like Stars Coming,
- 26:13Speaker 1: but then Marvel wise, she actually wrote Hawkeye, Bishop Takes King,
- 26:19Speaker 1: which is another young adults book in the Marvel genre,
- 26:24Speaker 1: and also The Bewitching Hour, which looks like maybe a
- 26:31Speaker 1: Buffy prequel. I don't know, but a lot of young
- 26:35Speaker 1: adult romance on here, but it looks like there's some
- 26:37Speaker 1: fantasy on here. So yeah, those are some of the books.
- 26:43Speaker 1: If you guys are like, well, I want to know
- 26:44Speaker 1: how they write so I can know if the Star
- 26:46Speaker 1: Wars book is gonna be for me with six months
- 26:49Speaker 1: to go, Like, there's the books that you can go
- 26:52Speaker 1: check out by those authors. So the next bit from
- 26:57Speaker 1: the panel was the comics right, yes.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Now, we have been wondering when are we gonna get
- 27:05Speaker 2: more High Republic? When are we gonna get more High Republic?
- 27:08Speaker 2: And the uh, the line that I think Michael Siglaine
- 27:14Speaker 2: had said in an interview somewhere was basically that it
- 27:21Speaker 2: was not so far off in the future and that
- 27:25Speaker 2: was too vague for us, and we're like, what does
- 27:27Speaker 2: that mean? Well, we get the answer right here at
- 27:31Speaker 2: New York Comic Con. They have announced coming from George
- 27:36Speaker 2: Mann himself, set twenty years after Phase two Star Wars,
- 27:42Speaker 2: the High Republic Adventures Pathfinders. Yes, this does not have
- 27:52Speaker 2: any big like description at all.
- 28:00Speaker 1: No, it just had a couple of panel shots and
- 28:03Speaker 1: then the covers for the first two issues. This is
- 28:06Speaker 1: a dark Horse publication by the way, guys.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Yes there is some character designs as well. Okay, yeah it.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I do know that this series is going to have
- 28:18Speaker 1: Ruper in it with the Shield, so maybe we'll see
- 28:22Speaker 1: how the Shield ye with the shop that Cormack Comet
- 28:29Speaker 1: picks up. So I'm super excited for this. We're gonna
- 28:35Speaker 1: have to reach back out to dark Horse and be like, please,
- 28:38Speaker 1: for the love of everything.
- 28:41Speaker 2: No, I'm just kidding, it would be it would be
- 28:44Speaker 2: nice to get those advanced copies again.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm definitely gonna be super excited for this one and
- 28:51Speaker 1: look forward to like getting this one.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Yeah, super excited for this. In the same vein Asque
- 28:59Speaker 2: Comics we did also get an announcement of a manga.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Uh it is Star Wars Visions uh Sukumo has just
- 29:12Speaker 2: been announced. The new Mango follows a Jedi Order sixty six,
- 29:17Speaker 2: a Jedi after Order sixty six who accompanies a pair
- 29:21Speaker 2: of Droids to a rumored Droid's paradise. Yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I'm super curious about this one if this is going
- 29:30Speaker 1: to be an expansion on the episode in the upcoming
- 29:36Speaker 1: volume of Visions, because it is a Vision's like it's
- 29:40Speaker 1: like Visions Presence basically, and we know that the Stormtrooper
- 29:47Speaker 1: one is actually a Jedi in disguise like trying to
- 29:50Speaker 1: escape Order sixty six, and.
- 29:52Speaker 2: The cover of this does have the Jedi wearing a
- 29:56Speaker 2: Stormtrooper helmet.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm super excited for that one. Did that
- 30:02Speaker 1: one have a release date on it?
- 30:05Speaker 2: This one does not as far as I know. I
- 30:08Speaker 2: will take a quick glance at the actual article. From
- 30:14Speaker 2: what I see here, everything else well actually, uh July fourteenth,
- 30:23Speaker 2: twenty twenty six.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Okay, a lot of summer, a lot of Summer edition.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, Legacy is July twenty eighth, twenty twenty six.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Eyes Like Stars only says Summer twenty twenty six.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I totally forgot there was another comic that was announced.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I was wondering if you were just sipping.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Miss no, because I think okay, So let's just go
- 30:54Speaker 2: ahead and say it. Written by Im ed Best and
- 30:59Speaker 2: Mark GOOGANIM interior art is gonna be Kieren McCowen, on
- 31:07Speaker 2: sale February eleven, twenty twenty six, is Star Wars jar
- 31:12Speaker 2: Jar number one. The official publisher's summary of the comic
- 31:19Speaker 2: is as follows. This all new one shot teams up
- 31:22Speaker 2: two iconic characters, jar Jar Binks from the prequel trilogy
- 31:27Speaker 2: and Kellerin Beck, who has been seen in The Mandalorian
- 31:30Speaker 2: as the Jedi who saved young Broku from the Jedi
- 31:34Speaker 2: Masacer of Order sixty six, as well as in Marvel's
- 31:37Speaker 2: Jedi Knights number nine. Here there's a small little spoiler
- 31:40Speaker 2: for us. This comic is co written by of course,
- 31:43Speaker 2: I'm at Best and Mark Guggenheim. For those of you
- 31:50Speaker 2: who don't know, I don't know who wouldn't, but of
- 31:51Speaker 2: course Amed Best did voice jar Jar Binks as well
- 31:55Speaker 2: as play Killerin Beck in the Mandalorian. One thing that
- 32:03Speaker 2: people have said that came from the panel is that
- 32:09Speaker 2: this one shot somehow relates jar Jar Binks and his
- 32:17Speaker 2: importance to the rebellion. I don't know how much of
- 32:23Speaker 2: that is true. It would be interesting because I'm sure
- 32:30Speaker 2: there has been plenty of people who have wondered what
- 32:35Speaker 2: happened to Jarge are after.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Sith If you read after Math, you would know.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yes, which we which we did? We did read after Math.
- 32:48Speaker 2: So yeah, that was another comic that was announced at
- 32:51Speaker 2: New York Comic Con.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I didn't realize it was a one shot, y'all. When
- 32:56Speaker 1: this panel was dropping, I was actually at my grandma's
- 32:59Speaker 1: house and I had completely forgotten my phone. So I
- 33:03Speaker 1: get back and I have like seventeen text messages from
- 33:06Speaker 1: a variety of people. Go like Katie, look at the book.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Oh like text me.
- 33:12Speaker 1: He's like, look at the chat. Look at the chat.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I'm like, oh shit, Like.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Now uh. There are some other conversation pieces news bits.
- 33:29Speaker 2: One in particular Snell shared with us in regards to
- 33:34Speaker 2: oh well you actually shared with us on the Star
- 33:37Speaker 2: Wars allion's chat in regards to Ahsoka. But before we
- 33:39Speaker 2: do one thing that I did want to share with
- 33:43Speaker 2: you guys, because I saw that it still has a
- 33:48Speaker 2: couple of days to go. Humbo Bundle is currently holding
- 33:56Speaker 2: a sale for sixteen books that has Shadow of the Scyth,
- 34:05Speaker 2: Star Wars Catalyst, a Rogue one novel, The Aftermath Trilogy,
- 34:11Speaker 2: Star Wars, Brotherhood, Bloodline, Star Wars, Last Shot, Star Wars,
- 34:19Speaker 2: Resistance Reborn, Star Wars, Lords of the Sith, Princess and
- 34:24Speaker 2: the Scoundrel FAsMA, Heir to the Jedi Twilight Company, a
- 34:32Speaker 2: Battlefront Story, Rise of the Red Blade, and the most
- 34:37Speaker 2: recent Mace Wind Do the Glass Abyss all for twenty
- 34:43Speaker 2: five dollars. So you can get sixteen books for as
- 34:50Speaker 2: little as twenty five dollars, with some of those books
- 34:54Speaker 2: being very recent. That is a very good price. So
- 34:58Speaker 2: if you guys do like digital books, I highly recommend
- 35:02Speaker 2: that you guys take this offer. There's some books in
- 35:06Speaker 2: here that I haven't even read, so very very cool.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I'm a very big fan of humble Bundle, so I
- 35:15Speaker 2: think that if some of y'all can take up that,
- 35:18Speaker 2: then y'all should.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Yeah, you might want to get that because we're definitely
- 35:21Speaker 1: reading Resistance Reform next year, so and there's some other
- 35:26Speaker 1: ones in there that you haven't read, so you might
- 35:27Speaker 1: as well just go ahead and.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Get it and I actually don't have some of these physically,
- 35:34Speaker 2: so I wouldn't mind just owning the digital. And I
- 35:38Speaker 2: do have the physical of some of these, but I
- 35:40Speaker 2: would be okay with having them digitally.
- 35:42Speaker 1: So yeah, for sure. No, and sorry guys. So one
- 35:46Speaker 1: last thing from the panel. I didn't realize that Star
- 35:50Speaker 1: Wars did pick up on the crochet trend and they
- 35:54Speaker 1: have a crochet book, so I might have to pick
- 35:56Speaker 1: this up when this comes out next April. But it
- 36:00Speaker 1: the Mandalorian crochet where you get to make like the
- 36:04Speaker 1: figurines and stuff. They're called emmigroomy, but that's just because
- 36:11Speaker 1: I crochet, guys. I have a butt ton of yarn,
- 36:14Speaker 1: so that one could be fun. So all right, so
- 36:20Speaker 1: the Ahsoka stuff, remind me what the Ahsoka stuff was?
- 36:22Speaker 1: Let me pull that.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Okay, you shared a post. This was actually yesterday. Bryce
- 36:39Speaker 2: dell at Howard reveals more details about Ahsoka season two
- 36:43Speaker 2: at New York Comic Con. The runtime of the episodes
- 36:47Speaker 2: will range between forty five to sixty minutes. They She
- 36:53Speaker 2: also said to improve color design and cinematography, a cinematographer
- 36:57Speaker 2: from Rogue one has been brought on board. It is
- 37:01Speaker 2: unclear if this is Greg Frasier or another person involved
- 37:06Speaker 2: in cinematography. Post Production has started and will last one
- 37:12Speaker 2: full year is the other big point here. As well
- 37:18Speaker 2: as the possible release date being November of twenty twenty six,
- 37:27Speaker 2: it is unclear that there will be a season three.
- 37:32Speaker 2: You and Travis had a very quick back and forth
- 37:35Speaker 2: on the release date. Katie, why don't you share your
- 37:39Speaker 2: thoughts about the November twenty sixth release date.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I really with the fact that they filmed and they're
- 37:48Speaker 1: looking at a year for they just finished filming, they're
- 37:50Speaker 1: looking at a year for post production. A release date
- 37:54Speaker 1: of November twenty twenty six makes sense within that time. However,
- 38:03Speaker 1: I really don't have that big an issue with post
- 38:05Speaker 1: production being there. I feel like this is Star Wars.
- 38:11Speaker 1: There's going to be a lot of CGI with lightsabers
- 38:14Speaker 1: and special effects touching things up. I don't mind a
- 38:20Speaker 1: post production period that long. My issue boils down in
- 38:25Speaker 1: the fact that it took seven months to film eight
- 38:31Speaker 1: episodes like that is the time frame for twenty four
- 38:38Speaker 1: episode season for cable television. And yes, I realized there's
- 38:44Speaker 1: not as much special effects with cable television. However, it
- 38:51Speaker 1: is still ridiculous when you have such a script as
- 38:58Speaker 1: what's his name has? Oh my gosh, cowboy hat dude,
- 39:01Speaker 1: Why can't I remember his.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Name all of a sudden, Uh, Flony Filony.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Dave Flony. When you have such a script like Dave
- 39:11Speaker 1: Felony has, and he has confirmed that he was the
- 39:14Speaker 1: only writer on the show, when you are the one
- 39:21Speaker 1: writing and you have such scripts as we do. Because
- 39:24Speaker 1: let's not pretend that Dave Filoni writes a perfect script.
- 39:27Speaker 1: He does not by any means necessary. There's no reason
- 39:32Speaker 1: that filming should have taken seven months for eight episodes
- 39:37Speaker 1: in the forty five minute to sixty minute timeframe, which
- 39:39Speaker 1: is what Bryce Alice Howard says, again, not unreasonable time frames. However,
- 39:46Speaker 1: we all know that Star Wars tends to lean closer
- 39:48Speaker 1: to the forty five minute range, and in that forty
- 39:51Speaker 1: five minutes is probably eight minutes of credits.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Yeah, there is absolutely.
- 40:00Speaker 1: No reason it should have taken seven minutes. Excuse me,
- 40:05Speaker 1: my husband got home. I'm gonna mute my mic.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Now. Now, when I saw this, I did, see, of course,
- 40:15Speaker 2: yours and Snell's back and forth, which I will go
- 40:20Speaker 2: ahead and share that real quick. Snell was very confused
- 40:24Speaker 2: as for the November twenty twenty six release, he said,
- 40:30Speaker 2: also for a show that came out three years ago
- 40:34Speaker 2: at this point, just ridiculous. That's gotta hurt viewership as well.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Unless you're unless you were Thrones, as in Game of
- 40:43Speaker 2: Thrones or Stranger Things, you can do you you can't
- 40:49Speaker 2: do those breaks. As as far as like the time
- 40:52Speaker 2: in between, I would.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Definitely dis agree as far as like maybe Game of Thrones,
- 40:58Speaker 1: but that's because Game of had some notoriety before going
- 41:01Speaker 1: into it. Stranger Things, however, I think Stranger Things has
- 41:05Speaker 1: dipped ginormously in terms of a fan base.
- 41:08Speaker 2: I have not seen anything past season one of Stranger Things,
- 41:12Speaker 2: so I don't really have a debate on that. My
- 41:18Speaker 2: thing is, uh, and we've I think that viewership as
- 41:23Speaker 2: a whole, for television in general, the conversation about and
- 41:32Speaker 2: we as viewers shot ourselves in the foot, I want
- 41:35Speaker 2: to go ahead and say that out loud to the listeners. Here,
- 41:39Speaker 2: we shot ourselves in the foot because there was shows
- 41:43Speaker 2: like The Flash, like Arrow, like The Walking Dead, like
- 41:48Speaker 2: all of these other very famous, very big shows that
- 41:54Speaker 2: we said, man, there's so many filler episodes. There's like
- 42:00Speaker 2: I bet this season would be perfect if it was
- 42:02Speaker 2: about ten episodes we shot.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Ourselves in said episodes. I said about fifteen.
- 42:09Speaker 2: We shot ourselves in the foot for that one.
- 42:11Speaker 1: By the way, guys, yeap, And it's like, yes, studios
- 42:19Speaker 1: took that. It will probably lean this way, and then
- 42:21Speaker 1: we'll probably overcourse correct in ten years, because that's when
- 42:27Speaker 1: studios tend to have the time to make change it.
- 42:29Speaker 2: I will say I don't agree with the amount of
- 42:34Speaker 2: production time. Now you could say, well, Clay, they need
- 42:39Speaker 2: the production time to have the quality that they do.
- 42:44Speaker 2: I am not one hundred percent sure on that, because.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I would rather than take more time in production than
- 42:54Speaker 1: overwork their people to get it out by a certain date.
- 43:01Speaker 2: I can agree to an extent. And I know that
- 43:04Speaker 2: sounds crazy, like people are like, Clay, you want people
- 43:09Speaker 2: to overwork their post production crew. No, I don't. I
- 43:12Speaker 2: think that is a very dog shit way to treat people,
- 43:15Speaker 2: and I don't want people to do it. But in
- 43:18Speaker 2: my mind, if you can say, hey, a movie, a
- 43:24Speaker 2: movie like an MCU movie or a DCU movie can
- 43:28Speaker 2: film for six months and then oh, by the way,
- 43:32Speaker 2: it's coming out the very next year, that's less post
- 43:37Speaker 2: production time than some of these TV shows.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Can you name which movie you're talking about? I guess
- 43:46Speaker 1: because to me, I've always known that Marvel has a
- 43:50Speaker 1: year of post production time. Like I think, really for
- 43:54Speaker 1: a year of post production time for any movie.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Why do I feel like, Okay, so when does Brand
- 44:04Speaker 2: New Day come out? It's in July, right, yes, Okay,
- 44:11Speaker 2: it says twenty twenty six July. Okay, that's still filming.
- 44:19Speaker 1: But that's also Sony. It's not Marvel.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Oh no, no, it doesn't matter. I'm saying movies in general,
- 44:30Speaker 2: not necessarily just superhero movies. But like I'm not saying
- 44:34Speaker 2: just MCU or just DC. I'm saying any movie for
- 44:38Speaker 2: the fact that you can do a filming and post
- 44:43Speaker 2: production in that is gonna be compared to now because
- 44:50Speaker 2: nothing has Oh I guess like certain aspects. I think
- 44:55Speaker 2: certain aspects of Brand New Day have already completed their production.
- 45:01Speaker 2: So I'm kind of like toning the line a little bit,
- 45:05Speaker 2: but it's still less than a year.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Well, you look at Superman. I feel like Superman was
- 45:10Speaker 1: a well produced movie and like was top to bottom,
- 45:17Speaker 1: very nicely done, probably filmed in about four months. I
- 45:21Speaker 1: would say I can't find a filming timeframe. But it
- 45:24Speaker 1: finished filming July twenty twenty four and came out July
- 45:26Speaker 1: twenty twenty five.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, and.
- 45:31Speaker 1: So I feel like that's a realistic time frame. Odyssey,
- 45:35Speaker 1: for instance, Christopher Nolan my gold standard of filmmaking, a
- 45:42Speaker 1: year and a half of post production.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Basically has that finished filming.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Let me look, I'm pretty sure it has.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Okay, because like I don't know, I just for TV show.
- 46:01Speaker 2: I think that there is a possibility to still have
- 46:06Speaker 2: good quality with less than a year of post production.
- 46:13Speaker 1: So I can't agree to a certain extent. So the
- 46:16Speaker 1: Odyssey finished filming in August twenty twenty five, coming out
- 46:21Speaker 1: July twenty twenty six, basically a year, and it filmed
- 46:27Speaker 1: for six months.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Okay, so yeah, in total production is going to be
- 46:33Speaker 2: a year and a half.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so I can agree to a certain extent. But
- 46:39Speaker 1: I also think when we see a movie, yes, there's
- 46:43Speaker 1: a realistic certain timeframe because a movie tends to make
- 46:48Speaker 1: its money back a little bit more efficiently than a
- 46:52Speaker 1: TV show does. A TV show, I feel like, depends
- 46:55Speaker 1: on a lot of toys and ads and everything, so
- 46:58Speaker 1: you never know how much the show is really going
- 47:00Speaker 1: to make back movies, you kind of have a better
- 47:03Speaker 1: idea of how things are gonna make uh, how how
- 47:06Speaker 1: much they're going to make back and everything. But a
- 47:10Speaker 1: year from movie, which is typically let's say two hours,
- 47:17Speaker 1: you're talking about a T shirt. Let's let's say eight
- 47:20Speaker 1: episodes at forty five minutes a piece. How long is that?
- 47:26Speaker 1: That's four hours?
- 47:28Speaker 2: How many episodes?
- 47:29Speaker 1: Forty five episodes? Forty five minutes.
- 47:33Speaker 2: For eight episodes, that's six hours, six hours.
- 47:42Speaker 1: I don't know where I got for Sorry, guys, my
- 47:45Speaker 1: brain's not working. So six hours versus two hours, I
- 47:54Speaker 1: don't really necessarily consider a year's production.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Now, Okay, But you also have to get into the
- 48:00Speaker 2: debate of like, oh, well, you know, people film a
- 48:03Speaker 2: lot more than they need because they also have extended
- 48:07Speaker 2: cuts and things like that. So like, I'm sure the
- 48:10Speaker 2: filming is somewhat around the same. It's just the degree of.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Editing correct and like, the hope is that you go
- 48:20Speaker 1: into a TV show and you know exactly what you're doing,
- 48:25Speaker 1: with maybe a few course corrections here or there. I
- 48:29Speaker 1: think Superman we saw a very good time frame because
- 48:33Speaker 1: James gunn knew exactly what he was filming and he
- 48:35Speaker 1: didn't deviate from the script.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Yes, that's true.
- 48:40Speaker 1: So I feel like there's James Gunn is not the
- 48:45Speaker 1: standard though in Hollywood right now. So I think I
- 48:55Speaker 1: don't mind the yours production, then I mind the seven
- 48:58Speaker 1: months of filming. Okay, what you can say is wild
- 49:05Speaker 1: considering the example that I just put with production time
- 49:08Speaker 1: and movies and two hours and everything, but especially when
- 49:14Speaker 1: you're known to use the volume.
- 49:17Speaker 2: That is also something. Now, well, I think that the
- 49:25Speaker 2: volume needed to be used quote unquote needed to be
- 49:28Speaker 2: used because of the amount of the assumed Easter eggs
- 49:34Speaker 2: and cameos and things like that they're gonna be taking
- 49:38Speaker 2: place in this season of Ohsoka.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Yeah right, It's not necessarily a bad thing. But most
- 49:44Speaker 1: of the time I feel like with movies is scheduling,
- 49:49Speaker 1: scheduling filming in live locations, yeah, and figuring out how
- 49:54Speaker 1: to get people there and everything. When you're filming at
- 49:57Speaker 1: one location for seven months and you just have a
- 50:01Speaker 1: sound stage.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it should be decently you know, quote unquote easy.
- 50:09Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's easy, guys, I'm just saying, like, hey,
- 50:12Speaker 2: in retrospect, it should be easier than filming on site.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Yeah, And like and don't get me wrong, like I
- 50:19Speaker 1: count things like stunt training and everything is like more
- 50:22Speaker 1: pre production and like training for things. Yes, you're going
- 50:27Speaker 1: to continue to do that over the filming period and
- 50:29Speaker 1: making sure you stay in shape and everything, but like
- 50:32Speaker 1: choreography for specific stunts, lightsaber training, all that is pre
- 50:37Speaker 1: production stuff. They're talking like this is production timeframe filming
- 50:44Speaker 1: like it's ridiculous.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Going on to other announcements, which I don't think there
- 50:58Speaker 2: is a lot of if at all, I thought that
- 51:01Speaker 2: was it. I think that is well. I do want
- 51:04Speaker 2: to go ahead and relay the news if people have
- 51:08Speaker 2: not heard. Legendary artist Drew Strutson has sadly passed away
- 51:14Speaker 2: at the age of seventy eight after a battle with Alzheimer's.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Of course, if you are not familiar with Strutson's designs
- 51:24Speaker 2: and work, he famously made the posters for Indiana Jones
- 51:31Speaker 2: for Star Wars. I believe he did the work on
- 51:36Speaker 2: the original trilogy as well as the prequel trilogy.
- 51:40Speaker 1: He and I think he even did a poster for
- 51:43Speaker 1: Force Awagans.
- 51:45Speaker 2: I'll have to see. I haven't seen anybody post it yet,
- 51:49Speaker 2: but one of my all time favorites of his is Hook.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Hook is my all time favorite poster of his, Gone
- 52:02Speaker 2: way too soon. Of course, he did work on Back
- 52:06Speaker 2: to the Future as well, and people have also made
- 52:13Speaker 2: notes that although he is very famous for movie posters,
- 52:18Speaker 2: he has a very extensive amount of Star Wars novel
- 52:29Speaker 2: covers yea, a very large amount. So there's quite a
- 52:40Speaker 2: bit of his work out there for anybody who wants
- 52:44Speaker 2: to go look at all of that. But that is it.
- 52:49Speaker 2: That is it for the news updates and everything else.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Let's go ahead and move towards our main topic, which
- 53:00Speaker 2: of course is the Revenge of the Sith novelization Deluxe edition.
- 53:09Speaker 2: We are gonna be talking about the annotations, of course,
- 53:12Speaker 2: not the entire book, and we're not gonna be talking
- 53:14Speaker 2: about all of the annotations. We're gonna be talking about
- 53:19Speaker 2: four specific subject matters. Katie wrote these down a couple
- 53:27Speaker 2: days ago, those being film production changes that affected the book,
- 53:33Speaker 2: writing style choices, easter egg explanations, and characterization moments in choices,
- 53:44Speaker 2: And of course, because I am me, I have a
- 53:47Speaker 2: fifth one titled validation.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Okay, so what is your validation one?
- 53:54Speaker 2: Okay? So validation is in chapter eight or sorry, excuse me,
- 54:00Speaker 2: chapter two, Notation eight. I forgot to write the actual
- 54:05Speaker 2: page number. But this is the explanation of the Palpatine
- 54:19Speaker 2: being revealed as sidious and how because he's like, oh, well,
- 54:29Speaker 2: this book actually came out one month before the actual
- 54:31Speaker 2: release of the book or the release of the movie.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. And he states in the thing basically
- 54:41Speaker 2: saying how like he has like he's not responsible for
- 54:47Speaker 2: anybody who decides to read the book prior to the movie.
- 54:52Speaker 2: And I had made that comment because of the way
- 54:57Speaker 2: that I had interpreted this book and how I was
- 55:03Speaker 2: visualizing it and talking about it, and I was saying, oh, hey,
- 55:08Speaker 2: I'm not cool with this revealing sidious as or revealing
- 55:18Speaker 2: Palpatine as sidious this early on, when you don't see
- 55:22Speaker 2: it as such in the actual movie. And so it
- 55:26Speaker 2: actually says here. This novelization was published in April second,
- 55:30Speaker 2: two thousand and five, a bit more than a month
- 55:33Speaker 2: before the film was released on May nineteenth. Because this
- 55:35Speaker 2: book was published, along with several others before the film's release,
- 55:40Speaker 2: this little passage here may arguably be the first time
- 55:45Speaker 2: in prequel media that Chancellor Palpatine is openly revealed and
- 55:49Speaker 2: confirmed to be Darth sidious unless you made the mistake
- 55:53Speaker 2: of reading a different retelling first. It can't I can't
- 55:57Speaker 2: be held responsible for any such disaster here his errors
- 56:00Speaker 2: in judgment on your part. This is just like me saying, like, hey,
- 56:06Speaker 2: like I felt that this was wrong to reveal this,
- 56:13Speaker 2: and like in some capacity Matthew was saying the same
- 56:17Speaker 2: thing in a way, So I'm still calling it validation.
- 56:20Speaker 1: I would argue the point that he says in basically
- 56:26Speaker 1: the the the it's not the introduction, it's the it's
- 56:33Speaker 1: the opening crawl basically, which is he says it's not
- 56:38Speaker 1: his most famous passage, like his famous passages are at
- 56:41Speaker 1: the end of the book. But I would argue this
- 56:43Speaker 1: is this is what I always remember, is this opening crawl.
- 56:49Speaker 1: And I like both of these. He's got two annotations here,
- 56:53Speaker 1: but he talks about dramatic irony and how he's basically
- 56:57Speaker 1: set up the book where the reader what's happening, and
- 57:03Speaker 1: so it's like he's doing he's trying to do it
- 57:06Speaker 1: properly where you get happy anticipation because you know what's
- 57:10Speaker 1: gonna happen, and so you're like, oh my gosh, oh
- 57:12Speaker 1: my gosh. But then also dread like, what is actually
- 57:16Speaker 1: gonna happen? How is this gonna happen? But I read
- 57:19Speaker 1: the first annotation to my mom and siblings because I
- 57:23Speaker 1: took this book down with me this weekend to show
- 57:24Speaker 1: it off kind of thing, and they were like, well,
- 57:28Speaker 1: what type of annotations would there be? And I just
- 57:30Speaker 1: love this opening one Star Wars always opens with a
- 57:33Speaker 1: direct address to the audience, as do so many folkales
- 57:36Speaker 1: and fairy tales. I expanded the classic setup of a
- 57:39Speaker 1: long time ago in a galaxy far far away, to
- 57:41Speaker 1: be explicit about why this story is different animal from
- 57:44Speaker 1: the Star Wars medium that has come before it, to
- 57:47Speaker 1: create a different set of expectations, which I would argue
- 57:50Speaker 1: he does very successfully yes this story, and it kind
- 57:55Speaker 1: of going into the writing method and stuff he talks
- 57:57Speaker 1: about how like the freeze frames like help you step
- 58:02Speaker 1: into a character shoes before a big moment, help kind
- 58:05Speaker 1: of set you in the right mindset of Okay, we
- 58:09Speaker 1: are a reader, we don't see what's going on on screen.
- 58:12Speaker 1: And I know you watched Revenge of the Fifth to
- 58:14Speaker 1: kind of tie along into this. I did not, because
- 58:17Speaker 1: I wanted to kind of go into this with just
- 58:19Speaker 1: the annotations and everything.
- 58:20Speaker 2: I had it. I literally had it in the background
- 58:22Speaker 2: as I was writing these notes. I was really looking
- 58:25Speaker 2: at the book the entire time while the movie was
- 58:28Speaker 2: going on. But from time to time I did actually
- 58:31Speaker 2: like look up and like watch it for a few
- 58:32Speaker 2: minutes and then go back to notating.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Uh huh sure.
- 58:37Speaker 2: Now, uh you did mention the introduction. This was a
- 58:42Speaker 2: part of my category of writing style choices. I wrote
- 58:49Speaker 2: down annotation number one and number five, number one being
- 58:53Speaker 2: I wanted to expand the traditional setup of an opening
- 58:56Speaker 2: crawl into something more like a really long establishing shot,
- 59:00Speaker 2: to sketch bigger contexts around the action that's about to begin,
- 59:05Speaker 2: context ruling everything. It's what creates meaning a punch in
- 59:10Speaker 2: the mouth means one thing in a box earring, but
- 59:13Speaker 2: something else in your mother's kitchen. I really like this
- 59:18Speaker 2: because just like how right before, Because the one that
- 59:25Speaker 2: you were talking about is literally the page right before.
- 59:29Speaker 2: I like how this book does not have your traditional
- 59:36Speaker 2: like in the New High Republic books, they have an
- 59:41Speaker 2: opening crawl. It literally establishes where we are in the universe,
- 59:45Speaker 2: what we're doing, and what we're about to get into.
- 59:49Speaker 2: This is a new telling of that. It still tells you, like,
- 59:58Speaker 2: I really like how he can continues it in uh
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: the uh was it this one? Yeah? Yeah, it was
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: like the whole thing with how Luke uh not Luke,
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: excuse me. Anakin and obi Wan are like superheroes in
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: this universe and like the Hollow dramas and all of this,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Like it is more than just an opening crawl. It
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: is a whole movie within itself, and I really really
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: dig that.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I really love that because there's a lot of things
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: that you can accomplish with an opening crawl to set
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: the scene. There's also a lot of things that you
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: can't do, and so creating a novelization, you need to
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: expand upon it a little bit more to give it
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: that that an opening crawl makes you feel. The So
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I basically noted every single brief passage on darken Lights.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I really moments.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: I really dug those writing style.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: It just I love them so much in this bit
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: it's it is long annotations, but I think they're worth it.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: One of the first things that I did in this
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: book was on chapter one, obi Wan and Anakin is
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: in this annotation down here, this really long one where
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: he says many people have asked, occasionally with some derision,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: why the opening battle and the chancellors rescue take up
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: roughly a quarter of the book when it only lasts
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: fifteen minutes or so on screen. The answer is, nobody
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: told me it only run for fifteen minutes. I was
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: gackling so hard at this. I was like, Okay, I
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: have to like highlight that like somehow, And the only
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: option I had at the time was a pin because
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: this is the three paragraph annotation kind of looks like paragraphs.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: It's not really paragraphs, but it's in the second block
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: of the annotation, and I was like, this is a
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: really long annotation, and I want to remember that I
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: cackled at the answers. Nobody told me last for fifteen minutes.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: That is just great. And he does specify that the
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: script that was given to him was one hundred and
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: twenty nine pages, and Anakin lands on the ship with
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: Obi Wan on page thirty four, so like, I get it.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: And what we have come to learn being the podcast
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: that network that we're in, we learn that hey, scripts
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: get rewritten on the spot, sometimes all the time, so
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: that one hundred and twenty nine pages can be extended
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: to like almost two hundred very quickly.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: So talks about basically he got a script, but then
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: afterwards he would get like basically stills from the movie.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: So it's not to spoil anything particular, like let it leak,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: but then it would have like a few lines of
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: dialogue or hey, he's doing this at this moment, and
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: that's all he would get afterwards.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: Yeah, like there there was. And I have seen recently,
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: and I say recently in the past two days, a
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: lot of people have been really stuck on the annotation
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: of obi Wan and grievous people have been really sticking
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: to this because of the small annotation of Hey, this
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: wasn't in the original script, and so people are really
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: sticking to that, and it almost makes it sound like
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: obi Wan like ab lib this, but he really didn't be. Yeah,
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: the the so uncivilized line wasn't ad libbed. It was
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: just added to the script later and it was a
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: revision that was given to you when he submitted like
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: one of his drafts or whatever. So I thought that
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: was pretty neat too.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: It's really neat. And he talks about how some points
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: he has to modify what's happening because he can't really
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: tell you, hey, this is what's gonna happen on screen,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: and he talks about how he goes into storyteller mode
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: for certain parts because it's just like, hey, I really
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: can't articulate as well what's gonna happen on screen, but
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: this is basically me telling you, hey, just wait for
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: the movie. It's gonna be super awesome in the movie.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: And like the fact that he didn't manipulate the so
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: uncivilized to add context or anything is because he just
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: felt like that line was so much obi Wan Kenobi
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: and it really I love the annotations where he he
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: basically has a love letter to obi Wan Kenobi in
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: this how like obi Wan Kenobi is awesome. How he's
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: just like, yeah, I just loved this moment, like really
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: like balancing both Anakin and obi Wan and showing you, hey,
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: obi Wan still feels love. But he makes different choices
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: than he does, like and I know some of those
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: are like self explanatory moments, but there's some where you're like, hey,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: getting this insight into an author's brain is super cool.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: So I really like the Well, the one that you're
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: specifically talking about was I believe in like chapter four,
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: I think or I can't remember. It was chapter three
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: year chapter four where obi Wan like figured something out
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: but not quite really and then like cause and he
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: made the small notation of like yeah, because obi Wan's awesome.
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: And then and then you literally turn the page and
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: the very next annotation talks about Mace Windhu and Mace
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: He's like Mace Windhu is also a badass. He doesn't
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: just guess, he already knows. So it's like he like,
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: I really dug getting into Matthew's head with all of
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: these annotations. Like another one that a lot of people
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: have started to really pick up on articles and stuff,
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: and I'm jumping way ahead, but it's one that I
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: think should stick with people. It's with Palpatine. There was
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: at one point Matthew gave the dialogue to Palpatine to
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: tell Anakin fight you. I don't want to fight you.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: I love you. This is the very first confrontation between
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: Palpatine and Anakin when Anakin makes the realization, holy crap,
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: you're the Darth Lord. George Lucas himself told Matthew take
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: that out, and the reasoning being, hey, Palpatine is literally
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: incapable of even remotely understanding what the word love means,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: so he can't use that word because even when pretending
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: it wouldn't even like be real.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't. I don't have the chapter that it's
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: page two eighty.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Three to eighty three. Okay, yeah, I really dug this.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: I think this is like chapter fourteen or fifteen. Actually,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: uh you said to eighty three? Yeah, oh yeah, right
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: here it was notation fourteen, sorry, which means it was
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: chapter fifteen, chapter fifteen, notation fourteen. I have it on
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: my notes, So I thought that was really really cool.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: There was one previous to that, and if I can
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: just move my page one.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Well you find that. I'm gonna say another one where
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: the film kind of changed. So obviously there's political scenes
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: in here that Matthew Stover kept in from the script
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: because he felt like Padme's point of view and the
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: politics in this really did matter at the end stage
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: of things. But I also like this one where Anakin's
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: going into the temple and there's a comment because the
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: line is the gate Master had seen him on the monitor,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Anakin Skywalker alone, and he says, as far as I
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: knew he was going to be alone, Like there was
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: no indication that he had clones with him at any point,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: and he says that the only reason he points this
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: out is because he loved the five hundred First. He
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: loves the mission that they stand for, and that when
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: he was getting to tour for this book, Delray actually
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: got the five hundred First Club to help escort him
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: out to his book signing and talking events. And I
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: just think that's super cool.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I thought I did notate that one as well.
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: I thought that was really really cool. I like the
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: two annotations on page two seventy three. This is also
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: chapter fifteen. I'll talk about the first one first. It
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: is an easter egg.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Because this is what I needed to talk about too.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: I'm on two seventy one. He says, my ex wife,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: a lifelong question has forgiven me for many things, but
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: she still sends to me for making her care about boga. Okay, continue, Yes.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: I laughed at that one. Uh. Notation number five on
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: chapter fifteen to seventy three is the page number This
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: easter egg, of course, not from Star Wars novel. It's
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: from the movie A New Hope. It's supposed to flip
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: the easter egg discovery from Hey, I got that one
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: to oh crap, I got that one. Yeah, I really
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: dug this one. It one of those that you like, again,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: have to really think about it, says uh. It's it's
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: a point of like in the perspective of Obi Wan Kenobi,
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: and when he kills Grievous, he is like, oh wow,
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: I might die in this situation. And he always thought, well, well,
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: if I'm gonna die, I always thought Anakin was gonna
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: be there with me. And then you're like, oh wait,
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: but he is. So I thought that one was a
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: really nice like. Matthew has a lot of these, like
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: you had said in the beginning of this review, like
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: dramatic irony, and he's a really funny guy, so he
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: he You could really hear his voice in these annotations,
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: which I really like. But this one, as somebody who
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: studied a little bit of film in some college courses
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: of mind, I really like annotation number six. Annotation number
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: six is from when Anakin is in Palpatine's office and
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: he's looking at some random sculpture and it says, here
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic sat at the small
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: desk in his private office, staring just strictly at an
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: abstract twist of geranium that Anakin had always assumed was
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: supposed to be some kind of sculpture, and merely sighed
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: as though he had matters of much greater importance on
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: his mind. The notation says this line is what is
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: known in showbiz as Chekhov's gun, which is not a
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: star Trek reference. Anton Chekhov, the great Russian author and
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: play right famously advised that if a gun is introduced
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: in the first act, it must be fired by the
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: end of the play. I really like this. I like
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: how there is a lot of these like, hey, remember this,
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: like make sure you're paying attention to this. Matthew has
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: been doing a lot of this in this book, and
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: I really really dug it.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, because like in that statue comes back to play
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: because he uses that to kind of his lightsaber's basically
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: been hidden in that statue for twenty years. Yeah, like
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: super cool. I love that chapter, by the way, it's
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: like really awesome. But going back to the Easter egg conversation,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I love like one of his Easter eggs is Red five.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Apparently Obi Wan Kenobi was only referenced in the script
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: as Red Leader, So matt at Fustover just decided, hey,
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna give Anakin red five because that's Luke Skywalker's
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: calls line in a New Hope. So I really dug
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: that because I didn't even catch that on the first
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: read through, like when we were reviewing it and stuff.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: But then the other thing that I really love that
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: Stover does is when he's utilizing stuff from Star Wars
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Legends books, he gives credit to those on the page.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: That's what That was my second notation where I wrote
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: in the book because I was like, I really need
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: to remember this, and I didn't have any post its.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: I was like, I just loved that because there's so
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: much special about Star Wars Legends, and a lot of
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: times people can go, oh, but like Timothy's on with
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Air to the Empire, Oh but Matthew Stover with Revenge
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: of the Sith, people forget that. Yes, Timothyson started it,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: but Timothyson also continued with other pieces from other novels,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: and Matthew Stover didn't write this book until there was
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: twenty years or ten years of Star Wars Legends.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: So yeah, so one of my notations h and I
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: actually started to do this with all of them. There
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: was one in chapter one, but I just stopped on
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: the one on chapter two, it's notation five. The Patawan
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: material is lifted from Sean Stewart's excellent Clone Wars novel
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: Yoda Dark Rendezvous. His rendering of Douku as a teenager
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: sociopath was tremendously influential on how I wrote the adult
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Duku in this book.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Yep, that's the one I wrote on.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: So I started. I literally notated every single book that
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: he mentions in this book as a reminder, Hey, you
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: should probably pick these books up to better expand the
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: knowledge of this book. And I think that is just
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: really really cool. And he does explain like, hey, this
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: may be like extended universe material, and technically this is
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: extended universe, it's not canon, but at the time you're
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: placing this inside of a canon novelization, so you can
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: almost say like, hey, this is somewhat canon, which extends
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: to hey, I am now bringing those books into canon,
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: which I do really really like.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: For sure. I love how the annotations about Palpatine make
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: it very explicit in the manipulation tactics, like a lot
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: of people go, hey, but how could Anakin really fall
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: for this other than his love for Padme Palpatine is
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: an excellent liar, as all politicians are cough cough, And
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: I love how Matthew Stover calls some of the lines
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: out from the political campaigns when he was writing this,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: but then also just hey, recognize anything, so again irony
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: as a highlight. But I love how he's like, hey,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: ever wondered how somebody could tell you most of the
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: truth but also lie at the same time, because this
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: is what it is right here, and digging into like
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: Palpatine as a viewpoint and kind of going, hey, chapter
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: seventeen is really and truly his only viewpoint, because Palpatine
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: is a mythical being basically, and so in order to
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: do that, he chose to break him in very specific
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: ways where you don't actually know what's going on in
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Palpatine's head. And chapter seventeen is the part where the
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: Jedi come in and try to arrest him, and Stover
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: wanted you to know, Hey, but this is how Palpatine
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: manipulates the Senate, manipulates the public by starting and recording
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: how he gets a lightsaber, because I've always wondered that,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: and so getting to reread that chapter, I think my
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: mom took that out the first time was awesome seeing
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: his lightsaber come out of the statue. So I really
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: love that. I also loved the dive in with the
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: Sun Dragon Crisis.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: Yes that it was. I literally I notated that, and
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: then I stopped what I was doing, yep with all
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: the way, because he does say I think it's in
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: the very first mention of the Sun Dragon is in
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: chapter one, and he does say like, hey, by the way,
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: if you want to know about the Sun Dragon Crisis,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: you can go to this page here. And so I
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: literally stopped what I was doing and I went all
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: the way to the back of the book to read
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: the Sun Dragon Crisis. Guys, if they were to have
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: a like mini novella of this story here, I would
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: be the first one in line to read this story.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: One thing that like really stuck out to me was
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Matthew had said on uh, I think it was this
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: or maybe another notation was uh. When he got back
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: some notes, they were like, hey, you need to change this,
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: and it was like so many like weeks or like
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: like really close to deadline, and he's like, you mother efforts,
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: are you freaking kidding me? Like and just yelling down
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: this throat, this dude's throat, saying how unrealistic it is
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: to change it and make something up in the time
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: that he needs to have this all finished. And the
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: dude was just like completely calm, and it was like,
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: you can figure it out, you can do it. I
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: trust you. Blah blah blah. I love this inside story
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: of the Subgriten crisis.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: And he says he had he told the the representative,
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: mister Roffman. He was like, you expect me to what
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: get struck by lightning in the middle of the night,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: so I wake up with some magic idea out of
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: nowhere to fix everything. You think crap happens like that
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: in real life. And then he said he went out drinking,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: which I love that.
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: He's just honest, and he's like, I didn't know what
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: I was gonna do, like on principles.
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: That was the other thing. I laughed at this. And
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: he said at nine thirty the following morning, he had
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: compiled everything he needed for the revisions and said, Hi,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: sorry about blowing up last night. Anyway, do you remember
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: me shouting on the call about shit that never actually
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: happens in real life?
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: Well, you know, funny thing, funny story. I love this
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: because it's just it's it's great how things end up
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: working out, you know, And I really do like how
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: like in the beginning of this he was like the dragon,
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: mister Lucas hated it, fucking hated it. Not this one
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: in the book, because if it wasn't if it's in
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: the book, he absolutely loved it, but he hated the
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: original version of it. And he goes on to this story,
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: I like an idiot. There's like the the about the
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: author at the very end is literally one sentence. Matthew
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: Stover believes that everything worth knowing about his life can
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: be found in his book. Like it's just like boom, like, hey,
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: this is who I am, this is what I'm doing.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: There's there's there's nothing to hide here type of thing,
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: and especially in a deluxe edition where he's literally laying
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: everything out for us, I love it. I think that's awesome.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and I love that because, like, while everybody loves
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: a good metaphor, and that's what he was using a
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: sun dragon for was to showcase how Anakin's rage was growing.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: And basically, George Lucas felt like the sun Dragon made
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: it feel like Anakin wasn't making his own choices. So
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: then he turned around and the lightning bolt that struck
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: him in the middle of the night was the emphasis
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: on why Anakin was tagged to the hero with no fear,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: and how he changed it was by going the dramatic
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: irony route. And I think if there had been metaphors
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: in this, I don't think it would have hit us hard.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: The dramatic irony is what makes this book.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: Yeah, point and and like, honestly he does mention like, hey,
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: I put the dramatic irony throughout the book. It's not
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: just in one spot for you to hopefully get. It's
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: literally there every turn. So that way, by the end
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: you're like, uh, okay, and I did it. I really
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: really love it. I'm trying to think if there was
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: something else in my notes here. I do have one
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: notation chapter ten, Notation eight. Do you have anything that
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: you want to add?
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: I think that was it, like I noted the twenty
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: two places. But also, guys, I'm not going to read
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: you every annotation word for word, like I've talked about.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: You said annotation yes, number eight. This excuse me. The
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: category was film production changes. This one was I'm trying
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: to remember which.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: The scene with Yoda where he.
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: Yes Anakin and Yo to talking about like the like
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: in the movie we see them discussing like the vague
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: thoughts of him losing a loved one type thing. Yeapuh.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: And it was not in the original script, but it
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: was something that came in later, so you know, just
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: he he outlines everything and I dig like getting a
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: little bit on the inside. And I don't know if
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: there's any more novelizations that go this hard as far
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: as like getting a deluxe edition with annotations and everything
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: else like that, but like I might want more, like
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: I like just to get on the inside of like
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: what lucasfilm is like today.
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: You know, yeah, I have not so I've read The
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: Force Awakens, Last Jedda, and Rise of Skywalker. I have
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: not read any of the other novelizations, so I don't
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: know what to tell you.
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: However, I just do what to bring out my twentieth
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: anniversary edition of Air to the Empire, because this is
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: the only other one that has authored notations.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: In it, and you can actually see here, like the
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: annotations are on the side instead of at the bottom.
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: That's what I was expecting here, I.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: Was too, so but this one, so this where's one. Well,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: you're not gonna be able to see it anyways, but
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: this one actually has like initials on the end of
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: an annotation to indicate if it's the author or the
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: editor chiming in. And this one Zoon basically went through
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: the same editing process that Stover did. His script was
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: very tightly controlled. George Lucas had final approval on things,
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: so very very similar, very cool, and they probably chose
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: not to do it this way because there are some
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: let me go back, hang on, like this annotation. You
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: can see it's the same annotation on both pages. And
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: this one, this one actually has like continued at the top,
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: so form at it well, like.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: And that was there's one from my knowledge. I don't
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: know how many there are in this book, but I
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: know I remember one specifically. There was an annotation that
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: was so long that it actually went onto the other page.
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: And so it's like that can be a little confusing
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: to maybe some people. So yeah, maybe whoever does the
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: next one, try to keep it short next time.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and just for comparison, like this is the hard case.
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: Ah okay, yea, yeah, So it's.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: The original cover like just imprinted on there and there's
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: no artwork or anything, but it's still one if one
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: of those treasure books.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: So awesome. But yeah, well that is it for our review. Remember, guys,
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: there is over one hundred annotations throughout this entire book.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: We only covered a few of them from what I
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: saw in what I had gathered. One, two, three, four, five,
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: six different notations mentioned other books that he referenced. So
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna go look for those books and put them
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: on a list of books to eventually grab. But yeah,
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: tons of stuff, Matthew. If I ever get the chance
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: to meet you, I'm sure it'll be a very fun conversation.
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: You sound like a very fun individual to sit down with,
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: and hopefully that could be something that happens in the
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: near future, because I would love to get this thing signed.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Yeah, same here. I know he was at New York
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Comic Con doing several signings, but I will definitely be
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: checking out where he will be in the future. Obviously,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I have my Heir to the Empire edition signed from
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: whence On was still doing that at one of his bookstores,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: and so you could actually order the annotation, but now
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: you actually have to pay for the not the annotation,
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: the signature. Yeah, signature, so yeah, but it obviously authors.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: I mean, Timothy's on is seventy five, I think, so
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: gotta give the do to break.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean and he also signed like all
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: of my books over at Chicago, so he was a
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: really cool dude. But yeah, that is it for our show.
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: Of course, I already mentioned Star Wars Alliance over on
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: Blue Sky and Threads and Instagram, but you can always
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: find me at Fanboy Clay over on all of these
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: social medias that we previously mentioned. Go check out Ranger Alliance.
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: Jake and I have been going over the most recent
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: Super Sinti series, Go Jusier, very fun series. There is
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: some theories that we have been talking about how the
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: series is going to end. We've made or we've talked
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: about Room of the twenty twenty sixth series as well,
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: So all fun stuff. So, Katie, where can the lovely
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: listeners find and follow you? Y'all?
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: You can find me on most social media platforms is
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: at place, So Katie, I am trying to be on
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: social media more frequently. My most used platform is Instagram
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: and probably Threads. I've been a little more active on threads,
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: so that's probably where you guys can find me if
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: you guys are looking for me.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: So, hey, they just they just introduced group chat on threads.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: So maybe we can convince. Maybe we can convince the
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: rest of the GUA to jump ship and we can
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: finally be on threads.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: Maybe maybe we'll see. We'll have to see. So guys,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: with that, I want to wish everyone a great day
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: or night, whatever whatever time of day you are listening
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: or watching, and we will see you next time. May
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: the Force be with you.
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: Fifteen. I'll talk about the first one first. It is
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: an easter egg.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Because this is when I needed to talk about too.
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: I'm on two seventy one. He says. My ex wife,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: a lifelong questioned has forgiven me for many things, but
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: she still sends to me for making her care about boga. Okay, continue, Yes.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: I laughed at that one. Notation number five on chapter
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: fifteen to seventy three is the page number this easter egg.
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: Of course, not from Star Wars novel. It's from the
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: movie A New Hope. It's supposed to flip the Easter
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: egg discovery from hey I got that one to oh crap,
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: I got that one. Yeah, I really dug this one.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: It's one of those that you like, again, have to
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: really think about uh it says uh. It's it's a
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: point of like in the perspective of Obi Wan Kenobi,
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: and when he uh kills Grievous, he is like, oh wow,
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: I might die in this situation. And he always thought, well, well,
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: if I'm gonna die, I always thought Anakin was gonna
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: be there with me. And then you're like, oh wait,
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: but he is. So I thought that one was a
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: really nice like Matthew has a lot of these, like
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: you had said in the beginning of this review, like
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: dramatic irony, and he's a really funny guy. So he
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: you could really hear his voice in these annotations, which
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: I really like. But this one, as somebody who studied
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: a little bit of film in some college courses of mine,
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: I really like Annotation number six. Annotation number six is
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: from when Anakin is in Palpatine's office and he's looking
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: at some random sculpture and it says, here the Supreme
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: Chancellor of the Republic sat at the small desk in
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: his private office, staring just strictly at an abstract twist
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: of geranium that Anakin had always assumed was supposed to
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: be some kind of sculpture and merely sighed as though
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: he had matters of much greater importance on his mind.
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: The notation says this line is what is known in
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: showbiz as Chekhov's gun, which is not a star Trek reference.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: Anton Chekhov, the great Russian author and playwright, famously advised
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: that if a gun is introduced in the first act,
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: it must be fired by the end of the play.
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: I really like this. I like how there is a
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: lot of these like, hey, remember this, like make sure
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: you're paying attention to this. Matthew has been doing a
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: lot of this in this book, and I really really
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: dug it.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: Yeah, because like and that statue comes back to play
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: because he uses that to kind of his Lightsaber's basically
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: been hidden in that statue for twenty years. Yeah, like
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: super cool. I love that chapter, by the way, it's
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: like really awesome. But going back to the Easter egg conversation,
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: I love like one of his Easter eggs is Red five.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Apparently Obi Wan Kenobi was only referenced in the script
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: as Red leader, So matt at few Stover just decided, Hey,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna give Anakin Red five because that's Luke Skywalker's
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: calls line in a New Hope. So I really dug
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: that because I didn't even catch that on the first
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: read through, like when we were reviewing it and stuff.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: But then the other thing that I really love that
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: Stover does is when he's utilizing stuff from Star Wars
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Legends books, he gives credit to those on the page.
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: That's what. That was my second notation where I wrote
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: in the book because I was like, I really need
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: to remember this, and I didn't have any post its.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: I was like, I just love that because there's so
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: much special about Star Wars Legends, and a lot of
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: times people can go, oh, but like Timothy's on with
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Air to the Empire, Oh but Matthew Stover with Revenge
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: of This if people forget that, Yes, Timothyson started it,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: but Timothyson also continued with other pieces from other novels,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: and Matthew Stover didn't write this book until there was
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: twenty years or ten years of Star Wars Legends.
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: So yeah, so one of my notations, uh, and I
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: actually started to do this with all of them. There
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: was one in chapter one, but I just stopped on
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: the one on chapter two. It's notation five. The Padawan
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: material is lifted from Sean stewart excellent Clone Wars novel
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: Yoda Dark Rendezvous. His rendering of Douku as a teenager
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: sociopath was tremendously influential on how I wrote the adult
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Duku in this book.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: Yep, that's the one I wrote on.
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: So I started. I literally notated every single book that
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: he mentions in this book as a reminder, Hey, you
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: should probably pick these books up to better expand the
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: knowledge of this book. And I think that is just
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: really really cool. And he does explain like, hey, this
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: may be like extended universe material, and technically this is
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: extended universe, it's not canon, but at the time you're
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: placing this inside of a canon novelization, so you can
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: almost say like, hey, this is somewhat which extends to hey,
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: I am now bringing those books into canon, which I
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: do really really like.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: For sure. I love how the annotations about Palpatine make
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: it very explicit in the manipulation tactics, like a lot
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: of people go, hey, but how could Anakin really fall
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: for this other than his love for Padme. Palpatine is
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: an excellent liar, as all politicians are cough, cough. And
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: I love how Matthew Stover calls some of the lines
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: out from the political campaigns when he was writing this,
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: but then also just hey.
- 1:36:45Speaker 6: Recognize anything, so again irony as a highlight. But I
- 1:36:54Speaker 6: love how.
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: He's like, hey, ever wondered how somebody could tell you
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: most of the truth but also lie at the same time,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: because this is what it is right here, and digging
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: into like Palpatine as a viewpoint and kind of going, hey,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: chapter seventeen is really and truly his only viewpoint, because
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: Palpatine is a mythical being basically, and so in order
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: to do that, he chose to break him in very
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: specific ways where you don't actually know what's going on
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: in Palpatine's head. And chapter seventeen is the part where
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: the Jedi come in and try to arrest him, and
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: Stover wanted you to know, Hey, but this is how
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: Palpatine manipulates the Senate, manipulates the public by starting and
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: recording how he gets a lightsaber, because I've always wondered that,
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: and so getting to reread that chapter, I think my
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: mom took that out the first time was awesome. Seeing
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: his lightsaber come out of the statue so I really
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: love that. I also loved the dive in with the
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: sun dry in crisis.
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: Yes, that it was. I literally I notated that, and
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: then I stopped what I was doing, yeap with all
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: the way, because he does say I think it's in
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: the very first mention of the Sun Dragon is in
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: chapter one, and he does say like, hey, by the way,
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: if you want to know about the Sun Dragon Crisis,
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: you can go to this page here. And so I
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: literally stopped what I was doing and I went all
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: the way to the back of the book to read
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: the Sun Dragon Crisis. Guys, if they were to have
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: a like mini novella of this story here, I would
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: be the first one in line to read this story.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: One thing that like really stuck out to me was
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: Matthew had said on I think it was this, or
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: maybe another notation was when he got back some notes,
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: they were like, hey, you need to change this, and
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: it was like so many like weeks or like like
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: really close to deadline, and he's like, you mother efforts,
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: are you freaking kidding me, like and just yelling down
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: this throat, this dude's throat, saying how unrealistic it is
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: to change it and make something up in the time
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: that he needs to have this all finished. And the
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: dude was just like completely calm, and it was like,
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: you can figure it out, you can do it. I
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: trust you, blah blah blah. I love this inside story
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: of the Subgriden crisis.
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: And he says he had he told the the representative,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: mister Roffman. He was like, you expect me to what
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: get struck by lightning in the middle of the night,
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: so I wake up with some magic idea out of
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: nowhere to fix everything. You think crap happens like that
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: in real life. And then he said he went out
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: and drinking, which.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: I love that.
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: He's just honest, and he's like, I didn't know what
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: I was gonna do, like on principles.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: That was the other thing. I laughed at this, And
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: he said at nine thirty the following morning, he had
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: compiled everything he needed for the revisions and said, Hi,
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: sorry about blowing up last night. Anyway, do you remember
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: me shouting on the call about shit that never actually
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: happens in real life? Well, you know, funny.
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: Thing, funny story. I love this because it's just it's
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: it's great how things end up working out, you know.
- 1:40:50Speaker 2: And I really do like how like in the beginning
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: of this he was like the dragon mister Lucas hated it,
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: fucking hated it. Not this one in the book, because
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: if it wasn't if it's in the book, he absolutely
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: loved it, but he hated the original version of it.
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: And he goes on to this story like, I like idiot.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: There's like the the about the author at the very
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: end is literally one sentence. Matthew Stover believes that everything
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: worth knowing about his life can be found in his book.
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: Like it's just like boom, like, hey, this is who
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: I am, this is what I'm doing. There's there's there's
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: nothing to hide here type of thing. Yeah, and especially
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: in a deluxe edition where he's literally laying everything out
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: for us, I love it. I think that's awesome.
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and I love it because, like, while everybody loves
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: a good metaphor, and that's what he was using a
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: sun dragon for was to showcase how Anakin's reade was growing.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: And basically, George Lucas felt like the sun Dragon made
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: it feel like Anakin wasn't making his own choices. So
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: then he turned around and the lightning bolt that struck
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: him in the middle of the night. Was the emphasis
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: on why Anakin was tagged to the hero with no
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: fear and how he changed it was by going the
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: dramatic irony route. And I think if there had been
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: metaphors in this, I don't think it would have hit
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: us hard. The dramatic irony is what makes this book.
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: Yeah, point and like, honestly he does mention like, hey,
- 1:42:23Speaker 2: I put the dramatic irony throughout the book. It's not
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: just in one spot for you to hopefully get. It's
- 1:42:30Speaker 2: literally there every turn, so that way, by the end
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: you're like, uh okay, y and I dig it. I
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: really really love it. I'm trying to think if there
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: was something else in my notes here. I do have
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: one notation chapter ten, Notation eight. Do you have anything
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: that you want to add?
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: I think that was it, like I noted the twenty
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: two places. But also, guys, I'm not gonna read you
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: every annotation word for word, like I've talked about.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: You said an annotation, yes, number eight, this excuse me.
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: The category was film production changes. This one was I'm
- 1:43:31Speaker 2: trying to remember which.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: The scene with Yoda where.
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: He yes, Anakin and Yona talking about like the like
- 1:43:41Speaker 2: in the movie, we see them discussing like the vague
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: thoughts of him losing a loved one type of thing. Yep,
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: And it was not in the original script, but it
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: was something that came in later, so you know, just
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: he outlines everything and I dig like getting a little
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: bit on the inside. And I don't know if there's
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: any more novelizations that go this hard as far as
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: like getting a deluxe edition with annotations and everything else
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: like that, but like I might want more, like I
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: like just to get on the inside of like what
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: lucasfilm is like today.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: You know, yeah, I have not so I've read The
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: Force Awakens, lash Jeda and Rise of Skywalker. I have
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: not read any of the other novelizations, so I don't
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: know what to tell you.
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: However, I just do what to bring out my twentieth
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: anniversary edition.
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: Of Air to the Empire, because this is the only
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: other one that has authored notations in it, and you
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: can actually see here, like the annotations are on the
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: side instead of at the bottom.
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: That's what I was expecting here.
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: I was too so but this one, so this where's
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: one Well you're not gonna be able to see it anyways,
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: but this one actually has like initials on the end
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: of an annotation to indicate if it's the author or
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: the editor chiming in. And this one, like Zoon, basically
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: went through the same editing process that Stover did. His
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: script was very tightly controlled. George Lucas had final approval
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: on things, so very very similar, very cool, and they
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: probably chose not to do it this way because there
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: are some let me go back, hang on, like this annotation.
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: You can see it's the same annotation on both pages.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: And this one, uh, this one actually has like continued
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: at the top, so form at.
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: It well, like and that was there's one from my knowledge.
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: I don't know how many there are in this book,
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: but I know I remember one specifically. There was an
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: annotation that was so long that it actually went onto
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: the other page. And so it's like that can be
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: a little confusing to maybe some people. So yeah, maybe
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: whoever does the next one, try to keep it short
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: next time.
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and just for comparison, like this is the hard case.
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: Ah okay yea.
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: Yeah, So it's the original cover like just imprinted on
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: there and there's no artwork or anything, but it's still
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: one if one of those treasured books.
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: So but yeah, well that is it for our review. Remember, guys,
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: there is over one hundred annotations throughout this entire book.
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: We only covered a few of them from what I
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: saw in what I had gathered, one, two, three, four, five,
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: six different notations mentioned other books that he referenced. So
- 1:47:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna go look for those books and put them
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: on a list of books to eventually grab. But yeah,
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: tons of stuff, Matthew. If I ever get the chance
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: to meet you, I'm sure it'll be a very fun conversation.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: You sound like a very fun individual to sit down with,
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: and hopefully that could be something that happens in the
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: near future, because I would love to get this thing signed.
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: Yeah, same here. I know he was at New York
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: Comic Con doing several signings, but I will definitely be
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: checking out where he will be in the future. Obviously,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: I have my Heir to the Empire edition signed from
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: whence On was still doing that at one of his bookstores,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: and so you could actually order the annotation, but now
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: you actually have to pay for the not the annotation,
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: the signature.
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: Yeah, signature.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: So yeah, but obviously authors, I mean timothys On is
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: seventy five, I think, so you gotta give the do
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: to break.
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and he also signed like all of
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: my books over at Chicago, so he was a really
- 1:48:58Speaker 2: cool dude. But yeah, that is it for our show.
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: Of course, I already mentioned Star Wars Alliance over on
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: Blue Sky and threads and Instagram, but you can always
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: find me at Fanboy play over on all of these
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: social medias that we previously mentioned. Go check out Ranger Alliance.
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: Jake and I have been going over the most recent
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: Super Sinti series, Go Jusier. Very fun series. There is
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: some theories that we have been talking about how the
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: series is going to end. We've made or we've talked
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: about rumors of the twenty twenty sixth series as well.
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: So all fun stuff. So Katie, where can the lovely
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: listeners find and follow you?
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you can find me on most social media platforms
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: at place. So Katie, I am trying to be on
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: social media more frequently. My most used platform is Instagram
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: and probably threads. I've been a little more active on threads,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: so that's probably where you guys can find me if
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: you guys are looking for me.
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: So, hey, they just they just introduced group chat on threads,
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: so maybe we can convince, maybe we can convince the
- 1:50:16Speaker 2: rest of the g u A to jump ship and
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: we can finally be on threads.
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: Maybe maybe we'll see. We'll have to see. So guys,
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: with that, I want to wish everyone a great day
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: or night, whatever, whatever time of day you are listening
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: or watching, and we will see you next time. May
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: the Force be with you.
