- 1:04SPEAKER_13: Or have I been?
- 1:07SPEAKER_10: I always think it's uh I've always No, I have I have.
- 1:10SPEAKER_13: You always say podcast?
- 1:12SPEAKER_10: I always say podcast.
- 1:12SPEAKER_10: Welcome to the O'Brien and Doug Podcast.
- 1:14SPEAKER_10: That's true you do it.

- 1:16SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:16SPEAKER_13: Hi, everybody.
- 1:17SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:19SPEAKER_10: We are old.
- 1:20SPEAKER_10: Holy cow.
- 1:21SPEAKER_10: Uh this hot out.
- 1:22SPEAKER_10: That's why it is.
- 1:24SPEAKER_10: This is episode 254.
- 1:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:27SPEAKER_10: How you been doing the past couple days?
- 1:29SPEAKER_13: I mean it's I mean, alright, but every day has been another game of pain roulette for me.
- 1:34SPEAKER_13: Pain roulette?
- 1:35SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I remember Saturday, my hand hurt.
- 1:39SPEAKER_13: Yes, I do.
- 1:39SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we played a gig Saturday night and you were complaining about pain.
- 1:42SPEAKER_13: So that hurt for what was that, Sunday?
- 1:45SPEAKER_10: Mm-hmm.
- 1:45SPEAKER_13: And then yesterday felt better, and then I woke up this morning and my elbow hurt.
- 1:50SPEAKER_13: So I was like, what the f you know, I no idea.
- 1:53SPEAKER_13: I just wake up and I'm like, hmm.
- 1:55SPEAKER_10: Is it and of course I'm stupid about these things, but is it because it's been pretty humid out?
- 2:00SPEAKER_10: I don't I don't think I don't think so.
- 2:02SPEAKER_10: Your joints and and things like that.
- 2:04SPEAKER_13: It should be the opposite.
- 2:05SPEAKER_13: That's right, because humidity humidity should, you know, warm them up, you know, get them looser.
- 2:10SPEAKER_10: That's a good point.
- 2:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, see I don't know it's just hurting, man.
- 2:12SPEAKER_10: I told you I didn't know that.
- 2:13SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 2:13SPEAKER_13: You know, just it's just like, hey, what's gonna hurt today?
- 2:16SPEAKER_13: I don't know.
- 2:16SPEAKER_13: Let's wait and find out.
- 2:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:18SPEAKER_13: So there we are.
- 2:19SPEAKER_10: Uh but have you been able to sleep at night?
- 2:23SPEAKER_10: Do you have like a I got an air conditioner?
- 2:24SPEAKER_10: You have an air conditioner.
- 2:26SPEAKER_10: We don't have one in our room.
- 2:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:28SPEAKER_10: We could, we just haven't put it in there.
- 2:31SPEAKER_10: We have one in the living room.
- 2:32SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 2:32SPEAKER_10: But we all have fans.
- 2:34SPEAKER_10: So I g I've got a fan like right in my face.
- 2:37SPEAKER_10: But it's still so hard to sleep.
- 2:39SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:40SPEAKER_10: Uh when it's like 75 degrees at night at like 11 o'clock at night.
- 2:44SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 2:45SPEAKER_13: It's rough.
- 2:46SPEAKER_13: It's not natural.
- 2:47SPEAKER_10: It's not.
- 2:48SPEAKER_10: Not for up here anyway.
- 2:48SPEAKER_10: For yeah, exactly.
- 2:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah, for up here.
- 2:50SPEAKER_10: It's so bad that my wife, who normally just relishes the hot weather, she got a fan.
- 2:57SPEAKER_10: And she always gives me a hard time for having the fan like right in my face all the time.
- 3:01SPEAKER_10: Well, she's like, I need a fan, go get me a fan.
- 3:04SPEAKER_10: So I got her a fan the other night.
- 3:06SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you know it's hot then.
- 3:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you know it's hot.
- 3:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_10: Um, but yeah, yeah, uh it's been it's been the past three, four days anyway.
- 3:15SPEAKER_10: Something like that.
- 3:16SPEAKER_10: Three days?
- 3:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 3:17SPEAKER_13: Um I think tomorrow's the last of uh cool off by Thursday.
- 3:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_10: So much so that uh our gig, I hope it doesn't happen.
- 3:26SPEAKER_10: It's gonna happen.
- 3:27SPEAKER_13: I don't think so.
- 3:28SPEAKER_10: I'm looking I'm looking forward.
- 3:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I think they've already made up their mind.
- 3:31SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah, but uh it it doesn't look bad.
- 3:34SPEAKER_13: It looks like it's bad in the morning.
- 3:36SPEAKER_10: It's gonna stop like at noontime.
- 3:38SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 3:39SPEAKER_10: But I think they've already made up their mind.
- 3:40SPEAKER_13: They better not have, because I don't want to play.
- 3:42SPEAKER_10: I don't, I don't.
- 3:43SPEAKER_10: So what we're talking about is the syndicate is going on our county tour.
- 3:48SPEAKER_13: This weirdest go.
- 3:50SPEAKER_10: Thursday, we were playing uh in Prescle.
- 3:53SPEAKER_10: We're supposed to play on Main Street in Prescle with all the the classic cars and everything and the food food trucks and and whatnot.
- 4:02SPEAKER_10: Uh which we've we've done before.
- 4:03SPEAKER_10: We did it last year.
- 4:04SPEAKER_10: Last year was the first year.
- 4:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was last yeah, so we've done it before.
- 4:07SPEAKER_10: But it was really fun.
- 4:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 4:08SPEAKER_10: Um they shut down Main Street and everything.
- 4:10SPEAKER_10: It was it was pretty cool.
- 4:11SPEAKER_10: Um and we got word that the rain location for that show is inside the forum, which is just going to stink.
- 4:23SPEAKER_10: It's yeah, sound acoustics in there.
- 4:25SPEAKER_10: Because it's gonna be just just metal.
- 4:27SPEAKER_13: Yes, metal on metal.
- 4:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and obviously they're gonna bring the food trucks and the cars and stuff up there, but still, um I don't want that to happen.
- 4:37SPEAKER_10: So I'm I'm hoping that it dies down around noon like it's supposed to, and then we can play on main street.
- 4:43SPEAKER_14: Yeah, well, we play outside, I'll be fine.
- 4:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 4:45SPEAKER_10: But the way Chris made it sound was well, he did say it was rain location, but it's not looking good uh in their eyes.
- 4:52SPEAKER_10: So I feel like they've already made up their mind.
- 4:54SPEAKER_10: But anyway, that's Thursday.
- 4:56SPEAKER_10: And then Friday we head up to one of our favorite places to play, the uh the Acadian Festival at Madawaska.
- 5:02SPEAKER_13: Yeah, we already know we're inside for that one.
- 5:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we're in the multi-purpose center for that one.
- 5:05SPEAKER_13: Which is fine.
- 5:06SPEAKER_13: I actually like playing in there.
- 5:07SPEAKER_10: I do too.
- 5:08SPEAKER_10: And that and and because it's it's big, but it's not as big and it's Well, I think it's bigger than the forum.
- 5:14SPEAKER_10: You think so?
- 5:14SPEAKER_13: But acoustically it's better.
- 5:16SPEAKER_13: I don't know.
- 5:16SPEAKER_13: I don't know why.
- 5:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you know, I'm not sure.
- 5:18SPEAKER_10: I don't know what's different.
- 5:20SPEAKER_10: Uh is it bigger than the forum?
- 5:22SPEAKER_10: Big as big as anyway.
- 5:24SPEAKER_13: Big as, if not bigger.
- 5:25SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 5:25SPEAKER_13: I'll I'll put it that way.
- 5:27SPEAKER_10: Higher, maybe?
- 5:28SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 5:28SPEAKER_10: Well, it's way up on a hill.
- 5:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, anyway.
- 5:30SPEAKER_10: Uh that's not what I mean.
- 5:32SPEAKER_10: Higher altitude.
- 5:32SPEAKER_10: Higher ceilings.
- 5:33SPEAKER_13: Yeah, the altitude is higher, so the sound is better.
- 5:36SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 5:37SPEAKER_13: That's science.
- 5:38SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 5:39SPEAKER_13: Hashtag science.
- 5:40SPEAKER_13: Dugno science.
- 5:42SPEAKER_13: I just made that up.
- 5:43SPEAKER_10: That's the name of the podcast.
- 5:44SPEAKER_10: What?
- 5:44SPEAKER_10: Dug No Science.
- 5:45SPEAKER_10: Dug No Science.
- 5:46SPEAKER_13: Dug No Science.
- 5:47SPEAKER_10: Um, and then Saturday, now I've heard a couple different things.
- 5:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 5:52SPEAKER_10: About the Washburn show.
- 5:53SPEAKER_10: Now what we're playing Washburn, which we've played the past few years and I always enjoy it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_10: But we play at the bottom of this hill, and the audience sits on the hill.
- 6:04SPEAKER_10: It's like a natural ampathe.
- 6:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's kind of a great place to play, actually.
- 6:08SPEAKER_10: But there was a rumor, I think somebody had posted or they're advertising it as we're downtown.
- 6:14SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I'm not crazy about that.
- 6:15SPEAKER_10: So I'm not sure if that's true or not.
- 6:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_10: Um people just they keep messing with us, you know, messing with with uh the mojo.
- 6:23SPEAKER_13: Well, again, you're dealing with people that aren't musicians and have no idea what but I mean have to do with musicians.
- 6:31SPEAKER_10: We've had successful concerts there the past two or three years.
- 6:35SPEAKER_10: Why would you mess with it?
- 6:36SPEAKER_13: Because they're them.
- 6:38SPEAKER_13: They have to.
- 6:39SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_13: They're always they're always messing with you know, if it works, then let's change it.
- 6:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah, right.
- 6:45SPEAKER_10: That's what it's saying.
- 6:46SPEAKER_13: I don't I don't understand.
- 6:46SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I don't get it either.
- 6:48SPEAKER_10: Maybe there's somebody else in charge.
- 6:49SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 6:49SPEAKER_13: That could be.
- 6:50SPEAKER_13: We don't know.
- 6:51SPEAKER_10: Maybe they think more people will show up because if they see it on Main Street.
- 6:55SPEAKER_10: I I don't I don't know.
- 6:56SPEAKER_13: But it it the you know, behind the school is way better because there's there's room for everybody.
- 7:01SPEAKER_10: It is.
- 7:02SPEAKER_13: It's a great, it's a it's actually a pretty great venue, actually.
- 7:05SPEAKER_10: I I agree.
- 7:06SPEAKER_10: And we sound pretty good there.
- 7:07SPEAKER_10: We do because it carries, yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_10: So I don't know.
- 7:09SPEAKER_10: Well that remains to be seen whether that's uh where where that's gonna be, but it is in Washburn.
- 7:14SPEAKER_10: Um and you know, regardless, it's gonna be a good time.
- 7:18SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, well, I mean, we're gonna have fun.
- 7:19SPEAKER_13: I mean, I'm not worried about that, but because we we bring our own fun.
- 7:23SPEAKER_10: We do, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_13: We have a trunk full of fun.
- 7:26SPEAKER_10: Uh I wanted to talk to you about this.
- 7:28SPEAKER_10: Uh um so Star City Syndicate's Facebook page has been doing this thing, and we're getting a lot of great comments about it, and I think it's pretty cool as well.
- 7:39SPEAKER_10: You are the latest.
- 7:41SPEAKER_10: Um so it's it's basically meet the band.
- 7:43SPEAKER_10: Meet meet the members of the band.
- 7:46SPEAKER_10: And there's a bit of a write-up from our uh resident writer in the band.
- 7:52SPEAKER_10: Uh, and it's always kind of comical, and it's always kind of like um very complimentary of whichever member they're talking about.
- 8:01SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 8:02SPEAKER_10: But then then uh he submits questions to these members of the band and they answer those questions.
- 8:08SPEAKER_13: Have you done yours yet?
- 8:09SPEAKER_10: I haven't.
- 8:09SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 8:10SPEAKER_10: I haven't been asked, which is okay.
- 8:12SPEAKER_10: But yours was I mean, I was laughing so hard because of the way you put things.
- 8:22SPEAKER_10: I had to read it, I guess, I had to read it to my family out loud.
- 8:25SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 8:25SPEAKER_10: I said, let me read this to you.
- 8:29SPEAKER_09: And I was like, is this not Doug?
- 8:32SPEAKER_09: The way you the way you ended, and they said, if we do this, will you go away?
- 8:38SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 8:38SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 8:39SPEAKER_09: And you did it again.
- 8:42SPEAKER_13: If we if we do this, if we if you retire, we Well I was like, I was like, I want to I w because I want to make it like me.
- 8:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it is, and it was you.
- 8:50SPEAKER_13: You know, so I was just like, you know, hey, you know, if we if we if we give you this piece of paper that says bachelor of verse, will you go away and leave it a link?
- 8:58SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 8:59SPEAKER_10: You really should should read it.
- 9:00SPEAKER_10: If you if you get a chance, go to the Star City Syndicate Facebook page.
- 9:04SPEAKER_10: There are several of them, and they're all great.
- 9:06SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_10: Uh and it's basically just meet the members of the band.
- 9:09SPEAKER_10: We haven't gotten through everybody yet, obviously.
- 9:11SPEAKER_10: Because it's gonna take weeks.
- 9:13SPEAKER_10: It is, it's there's and I don't even know if we're halfway through.
- 9:16SPEAKER_10: No, at any at any given time, there's 19, 20 people in the band, depending on you know, who's in town, you know, or whatever.
- 9:23SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 9:24SPEAKER_10: So um, yeah, good.
- 9:26SPEAKER_13: We might be doing this from now until the end of the year.
- 9:28SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 9:28SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
- 9:29SPEAKER_09: It's true.
- 9:30SPEAKER_09: Is he doing it one a week?
- 9:31SPEAKER_09: Is that what he's doing?
- 9:32SPEAKER_13: I think he's about but it's been averaging one once a week.
- 9:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:35SPEAKER_13: So uh the next one should be up anytime.
- 9:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:38SPEAKER_10: Um, I love that he's doing it.
- 9:39SPEAKER_10: I think it's great.
- 9:40SPEAKER_13: I think it's great too, yeah.
- 9:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:41SPEAKER_10: Um, all right.
- 9:42SPEAKER_10: So on last week's podcast, I I was talking about my songwriting and I was talking about going retro, and I had ordered an old-fashioned uh tape recorder, not like a boombox, just like a rectangular tape recorder where you top loader.
- 9:59SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 10:00SPEAKER_10: Put the tape in.
- 10:01SPEAKER_10: Well, I came in and um it's cheap.
- 10:07SPEAKER_10: I mean, I only paid$17 for it.
- 10:10SPEAKER_10: But it was cheap.
- 10:11SPEAKER_10: It's like plastic, you know.
- 10:13SPEAKER_10: And it it would work probably, but when I push play, I hear so I hit stop.
- 10:25SPEAKER_10: Is there a inside?
- 10:27SPEAKER_10: So I hit forward.
- 10:30SPEAKER_10: I hit stop, I hit rewind, and it goes for a second and then stops.
- 10:36SPEAKER_14: Okay, that's right.
- 10:37SPEAKER_10: So I'm like, okay, maybe, maybe it just I just need to put some alcohol and you know, lubricate it.
- 10:42SPEAKER_10: So I did that, but the did not go away.
- 10:46SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 10:47SPEAKER_10: So I will be sending it back.
- 10:49SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 10:50SPEAKER_10: Um my wife was like, why didn't you get that?
- 10:53SPEAKER_10: Don't you have a don't you have a tape recorder?
- 10:55SPEAKER_10: I said, No, I don't because I used to have a handheld cassette one that I would do my notes in, my songwriter notes and stuff like that.
- 11:03SPEAKER_10: And if I still have it, I have no idea where it is.
- 11:05SPEAKER_10: Anyway, she says, You have a digital one too.
- 11:08SPEAKER_10: So I said, I did, I don't know where it is.
- 11:11SPEAKER_10: So before you got here uh tonight, I went looking for it and I found it.
- 11:15SPEAKER_12: Aha!
- 11:16SPEAKER_10: So this is uh it's an Olympus uh Olympus digital voice recorder.
- 11:22SPEAKER_10: Um and the first thing and it's got like f you know, like files or uh folders.
- 11:30SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 11:31SPEAKER_10: And in the folders there's you know, two or three files, maybe nine files.
- 11:35SPEAKER_10: There's one in here with fifteen files.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: And we were listening to some of these before uh the podcast, and these go all the way back to well so I said I said, how long ago is that?
- 11:47SPEAKER_10: Because there's a couple of songs that I had written, and this was the writing process of those songs.
- 11:51SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 11:52SPEAKER_10: And that's in 2011.
- 11:54SPEAKER_10: But then we listened to another folder, and there was some rehearsals or songwriting sessions with uh my old rock band, the Rock Docs, which I've been out of since 2009.
- 12:04SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 12:04SPEAKER_10: So and we didn't we weren't writing for an album.
- 12:08SPEAKER_10: Well the first Rock Docs album came out in 2001, I think.
- 12:12SPEAKER_13: One, two, yeah, yeah.
- 12:13SPEAKER_13: One or two, yeah.
- 12:14SPEAKER_10: And then the next rock docs album came out in 2004.
- 12:17SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 12:17SPEAKER_10: So if we were writing for those, this is really old.
- 12:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I was gonna say.
- 12:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 12:23SPEAKER_10: Um, but the first file, I'll just play the first file that I came to.
- 12:27SPEAKER_10: Uh so I have a senior this year.
- 12:30SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 12:30SPEAKER_10: Yes, I have a senior.
- 12:33SPEAKER_10: And this was, I'll hold it up to the microphone.
- 12:36SPEAKER_10: This was the first file that popped up.
- 12:38SPEAKER_10: Eli is my senior.
- 12:44SPEAKER_10: Of course, they're at each other.
- 12:46SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Eli.
- 13:45SPEAKER_10: But so that must have been Finn must have been like two.
- 13:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I was gonna say, yeah.
- 13:49SPEAKER_10: So that's about thirteen years ago.
- 13:51SPEAKER_10: At least, yeah.
- 13:52SPEAKER_10: At least.
- 13:53SPEAKER_10: Um so that was pretty a pretty neat find.
- 13:55SPEAKER_10: That's funny.
- 13:56SPEAKER_10: And then I'm dialing around the folders and there's some some songs that and and just me playing guitar uh so that I would remember a chord progression or something like that.
- 14:05SPEAKER_10: So I'll have to go through it and the cool thing about this is um I can Oh, it's its own flash drive.
- 14:15SPEAKER_10: It's its own flash drive.
- 14:17SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 14:17SPEAKER_10: So I can just kind of uh input that into into the Is that a gig or is it a megabyte gig?
- 14:24SPEAKER_13: I don't really know, to be honest.
- 14:26SPEAKER_10: Uh digital Olympus digital voice recorder WS300M.
- 14:32SPEAKER_10: Well now you asked a question, so let's just ask Google Olympus Digital Voice Recorder.
- 14:43SPEAKER_10: WS what did I say?
- 14:46SPEAKER_10: WS300M.
- 14:51SPEAKER_10: It's just a little cheap little cheap thing.
- 14:54SPEAKER_10: Uh uh according to this, okay.
- 14:57SPEAKER_10: This one is this must be it right here.
- 14:59SPEAKER_10: Oh no, somebody's selling it on eBay.
- 15:02SPEAKER_10: Uh this one is$35.
- 15:05SPEAKER_10: This one is$239.
- 15:08SPEAKER_10: This is$256 megabytes.
- 15:12SPEAKER_10: So not very much.
- 15:14SPEAKER_10: Well that was huge back then, though.
- 15:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, well, that's true.
- 15:16SPEAKER_10: That's true.
- 15:17SPEAKER_10: Uh although this one here is$12.99.
- 15:20SPEAKER_10: This one's$20,$45,$15.
- 15:23SPEAKER_10: But this one here, that's that's pretty uh what is it?
- 15:25SPEAKER_10: Is it the same thing?
- 15:26SPEAKER_10: Same thing.
- 15:27SPEAKER_10: Um$239.
- 15:30SPEAKER_10: I'm not really sure uh if they're gonna get that, but okay.
- 15:33SPEAKER_13: Well I know the old the old school ones, they they go pretty expensive nowadays.
- 15:37SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 15:38SPEAKER_13: Like uh like I've seen like a thousand, fifteen hundred dollars.
- 15:42SPEAKER_13: Really?
- 15:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 15:43SPEAKER_10: This one isn't that though.
- 15:44SPEAKER_13: I mean I've got I do have another one set they're a little bit, you know, the ones I'm talking about are a little bigger than that.
- 15:49SPEAKER_10: And I I have a zoom uh somewhere that has the two microphones.
- 15:55SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 15:55SPEAKER_10: I know you had didn't you have one too?
- 15:57SPEAKER_13: I had one too, yeah.
- 15:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I have one somewhere and I'm not sure.
- 15:59SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I put it away somewhere and it's yeah, it's in uh it's in this mess here somewhere.
- 16:04SPEAKER_10: But anyway, I'll try and find that.
- 16:05SPEAKER_10: But I I'm gonna send that tape recorder back and I do want to get another one because I ordered some a couple cassettes, blank cassettes.
- 16:11SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 16:12SPEAKER_10: Um I I do want to get another one.
- 16:14SPEAKER_10: I don't know if I want to do a handheld one or if I wanna but I want to record the cassette.
- 16:19SPEAKER_10: I just I want I because I want to.
- 16:21SPEAKER_13: Well, whatever whatever you do with the next one, make sure it's more than$17.
- 16:25SPEAKER_13: Yeah, no, because I think I think you got your money's worth.
- 16:28SPEAKER_10: No, you're right.
- 16:29SPEAKER_10: You're right.
- 16:29SPEAKER_13: Of course, back in the day, that would have been probably thirty dollars.
- 16:35SPEAKER_10: At least.
- 16:36SPEAKER_13: And it would have worked like a charm.
- 16:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 16:38SPEAKER_13: But here we are.
- 16:40SPEAKER_10: Here we are.
- 16:40SPEAKER_13: You know, some some kid in India made that for you're not wrong.
- 16:44SPEAKER_13: Making 17 cents a day.
- 16:45SPEAKER_10: Yep, yep, you're not wrong.
- 16:47SPEAKER_10: So um I just have to figure out how I'm going to repackage it and send it back because I haven't contacted them yet.
- 16:54SPEAKER_10: Anyway, um, so that's that.
- 16:56SPEAKER_10: I will I will reorder here sometime in the near future.
- 16:59SPEAKER_10: Yay! Yay! Uh what else is going on?
- 17:03SPEAKER_10: Well, oh I oh, I did have this cool thing.
- 17:05SPEAKER_10: So I saw a headline on ultimate classicrock.com.
- 17:09SPEAKER_10: I knew this.
- 17:10SPEAKER_10: I'm not sure if you knew this, but did you know that so Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
- 17:19SPEAKER_10: You knew that.
- 17:20SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 17:20SPEAKER_10: She was against it.
- 17:21SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 17:22SPEAKER_10: Um, and then she made a rock star album.
- 17:25SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 17:26SPEAKER_10: Which was yeah, I mean it was it was alright.
- 17:28SPEAKER_10: I mean, there were some guest artists on it, and whatnot.
- 17:30SPEAKER_10: And then she and then she um did that duet with uh Motley Crue, Home Sweet Home, which apparently, according to Ultimate ClassicRock.com, um let's see.
- 17:43SPEAKER_10: Uh Dolly Parton recently collaborated with Motley Crue on a new version of their 85 hit Home Sweet Home.
- 17:48SPEAKER_10: It's the latest chapter in her ongoing salute to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 17:52SPEAKER_10: Um let's see.
- 17:55SPEAKER_10: Oh, and oh, okay.
- 17:56SPEAKER_13: So that never I don't know, I don't know what that picture's from, but what's on fire beside her?
- 18:02SPEAKER_10: Uh probably Is that like pyrotechnics?
- 18:04SPEAKER_13: Yeah, probably pyrotechnic.
- 18:05SPEAKER_13: Okay, just it just looks like because it looks like that's an ant behind her, and it looks like it's on fire.
- 18:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 18:10SPEAKER_13: I'm like, what is the show?
- 18:12SPEAKER_10: So here's the headline.
- 18:13SPEAKER_10: How Dolly Parton won a Grammy thanks to an alt rock anthem.
- 18:18SPEAKER_10: And I'm not sure if you knew that she covered this.
- 18:21SPEAKER_10: Maybe you did.
- 18:23SPEAKER_10: Um I don't know.
- 18:25SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 18:26SPEAKER_10: So she said that let's see.
- 18:34SPEAKER_10: Uh I wanna I wanna kind of read it from So while she had a history of going against the grain, um the song that she first covered and won a Grammy for, she said everybody thought I was nuts when I said I was going to do it, and I want a Grammy off of that.
- 18:53SPEAKER_10: You know how we learn important things sometimes from our parents?
- 18:56SPEAKER_10: This is that's how Ed Rolland of Collective Soul found out that Parton had covered Shine for her little sparrow album.
- 19:06SPEAKER_10: Uh, this is a news to me.
- 19:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah, Ed said I was in Arizona at the time and I was having dinner with some friends.
- 19:12SPEAKER_10: Uh he says um my father called me from Georgia, so there was a three-hour difference, and he said, I just watched David Letterman, and Dolly Parton played Shine.
- 19:22SPEAKER_10: I was like, first, Dad, what are you doing up so late?
- 19:25SPEAKER_10: And why are you watching David Letterman?
- 19:26SPEAKER_10: And second of all, I excused myself from the table and said, I'm gonna go watch this, and it was just amazing.
- 19:33SPEAKER_10: So I re I didn't remember that she had covered it.
- 19:36SPEAKER_10: It's bluegrass.
- 19:38SPEAKER_13: It's a bluegrass.
- 19:39SPEAKER_13: This is the first time hearing of it.
- 19:40SPEAKER_10: So I just want to play it just a little bit of it because it's actually really cool.
- 19:44SPEAKER_10: Uh and she said that her and her husband used to listen to it in their in their house all the time.
- 19:49SPEAKER_10: It would just come on.
- 19:50SPEAKER_10: The original version.
- 20:01SPEAKER_08: Show me where to look and tell me what a wheel up What do we look?
- 20:10SPEAKER_08: Give me a look at that.
- 20:12SPEAKER_08: Show me what a look and tell me what I'll do.
- 20:31SPEAKER_10: Doesn't it work?
- 20:34SPEAKER_13: I'm not surprised it's Dolly Parton.
- 20:36SPEAKER_13: She can make anything work.
- 20:37SPEAKER_10: This is true.
- 20:38SPEAKER_10: So what she said, uh, let's see.
- 20:41SPEAKER_13: I just th I just find it funny that she's walking down a country road in heels.
- 20:47SPEAKER_13: I mean, well that's definitely that's a Dolly Parton thing.
- 20:51SPEAKER_10: She said that when the record came out years ago, her husband and her were riding in the car and they heard it and they listened to see who it was and went and got it and played it off and on in the house for years.
- 21:03SPEAKER_10: I've been trying to think of how I could sing it without all the rock stuff.
- 21:06SPEAKER_10: It sounds spiritual and all that, and the melody lent itself well to some bluegrass harmonies, which she's right.
- 21:12SPEAKER_13: I mean it's notice I'm more surprised by Dolly Parton walking down the country on heels than I am by musicians just coming out of the wood.
- 21:41SPEAKER_10: Oh, you know, to me that makes perfect sense.
- 21:43SPEAKER_10: I don't know who I think that is.
- 21:45SPEAKER_10: I think that's Nickel Creek.
- 21:46SPEAKER_10: It is.
- 21:46SPEAKER_10: Oh, it could be, yeah.
- 21:47SPEAKER_10: It is, yeah, Nickel Creek.
- 21:48SPEAKER_10: Oh, there we go.
- 21:49SPEAKER_10: And uh Jerry Douglas on Dobro.
- 21:52SPEAKER_08: Give me a word.
- 21:53unknown: Give me a time.
- 21:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but you know, I don't know.
- 21:59SPEAKER_10: I don't know, I'm not Going to say it works better as a bluegrass song.
- 22:02SPEAKER_13: No, it doesn't work better, but I really like it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_13: But it still works.
- 22:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I really like it.
- 22:05SPEAKER_13: Yeah, she yeah, she done well with that.
- 22:07SPEAKER_10: And the Little Sparrow album, I was trying to find the year that that came out, but it doesn't say.
- 22:15SPEAKER_10: I knew it was uh boys, I know it was at least 20 years ago.
- 22:20SPEAKER_13: It's hard to tell.
- 22:21SPEAKER_13: You can't tell by that video because Dolly Parton looks exactly the same.
- 22:24SPEAKER_10: She does.
- 22:25SPEAKER_10: So she does.
- 22:26SPEAKER_10: She's timeless.
- 22:27SPEAKER_10: She works hard and pays a lot of money to look exactly the same.
- 22:29SPEAKER_13: I'm wondering if she has the same thing that Keith Richards does.
- 22:32SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 22:33SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
- 22:34SPEAKER_13: Deal with the devil.
- 22:35SPEAKER_13: Some sort of immortal, you know, cheat code.
- 22:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
- 22:39SPEAKER_10: Maybe she has her blood replaced as well.
- 22:43SPEAKER_10: I read that.
- 22:43SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 22:44SPEAKER_10: Keith Richards has his blood replaced.
- 22:45SPEAKER_13: Yeah, his blood blood replaced like uh the oil in the Chevy.
- 22:47SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 22:47SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_10: I heard about that.
- 22:50SPEAKER_10: I don't think it's true.
- 22:50SPEAKER_13: I don't either, but that's just a waste of blood.
- 22:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 22:55SPEAKER_13: He's only got a leader in there anyway.
- 22:57SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 22:57SPEAKER_13: You know, he just rest is all cocaine.
- 23:00SPEAKER_10: So um so I thought that was really cool.
- 23:02SPEAKER_10: That was the first thing that I had come across uh and I wanted to tackle that.
- 23:06SPEAKER_10: So that's pretty cool.
- 23:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 23:07SPEAKER_10: Uh and you know, whether she deserves to be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or not, she doesn't think she does.
- 23:12SPEAKER_10: Um I can think of worse people to put in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 23:16SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 23:17SPEAKER_13: The only reason she's doing all these rock songs is because she wants to make up for Yeah, she's like, Well, if I'm gonna be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I should do some rock songs.
- 23:25SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 23:25SPEAKER_10: Yep, exactly.
- 23:26SPEAKER_10: Which, you know, to her credit, I mean Yeah, I give her credit for that.
- 23:30SPEAKER_13: I mean, it was unnecessary, but yeah.
- 23:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 23:32SPEAKER_13: Whatever.
- 23:33SPEAKER_13: It's Dolly Parker.
- 23:34SPEAKER_13: She's gonna do, you know, Dolly's gonna do Dolly things.
- 23:36SPEAKER_10: So Yeah.
- 23:37SPEAKER_10: Um, all right.
- 23:38SPEAKER_10: Another thing that Ultimate Classic Rock uh had was I think something that we can sink our teeth into.
- 23:45SPEAKER_10: Um their headline is Who are the big four of 80s hard rock guitarists?
- 23:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 23:53SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna do the big five.
- 23:54SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 23:55SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 23:55SPEAKER_10: I'm going to.
- 23:57SPEAKER_10: There's some some parameters here.
- 23:59SPEAKER_10: I'm going to exclude Eddie Van Halen.
- 24:02SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 24:03SPEAKER_10: I'm going to exclude Randy Rhodes.
- 24:07SPEAKER_10: And here's why.
- 24:08SPEAKER_10: Even though he's on the page.
- 24:09SPEAKER_10: Even though he's on there.
- 24:10SPEAKER_10: He died in 1982.
- 24:12SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 24:12SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 24:13SPEAKER_10: So I'm just going to exclude those two right off the bat.
- 24:15SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 24:16SPEAKER_10: I'm going to exclude Joe Satriani and Steve Vi.
- 24:20SPEAKER_10: Because I don't think they were they were I think they were uh in a in a category all to themselves.
- 24:26SPEAKER_13: Um I think well Vi did that Whitesnake album in the late 80s.
- 24:34SPEAKER_10: Well, I that's true.
- 24:35SPEAKER_10: The White Snake and he was with Roth.
- 24:36SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 24:37SPEAKER_13: He did the Yankee Rose album and uh Skyscraper, right?
- 24:40SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 24:41SPEAKER_13: He did.
- 24:41SPEAKER_13: He did.
- 24:42SPEAKER_10: So should we should we include?
- 24:43SPEAKER_13: I think I think he should be still included.
- 24:45SPEAKER_10: Because I think my my big five changes if if we include them.
- 24:48SPEAKER_13: You know, maybe you got a big six.
- 24:52SPEAKER_13: I got a big six.
- 24:57SPEAKER_13: Six centimeters.
- 25:02SPEAKER_10: That went somewhere else.
- 25:05SPEAKER_10: Sorry, Blanchard Children.
- 25:13SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 25:18SPEAKER_10: Not this episode probably, but at one point, we should just name the episode Sorry Blanchard Children, just to see if they'll listen to it.
- 25:27SPEAKER_10: Just do random stupid things.
- 25:29SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 25:31SPEAKER_10: Not this episode.
- 25:32SPEAKER_13: No.
- 25:32SPEAKER_13: No.
- 25:33SPEAKER_10: Okay, so how do we want to do this?
- 25:35SPEAKER_10: Do we want to look at their list first?
- 25:37SPEAKER_13: Or do you want to Well, I want to hear your big six.
- 25:39SPEAKER_10: You want to hear my big six?
- 25:41SPEAKER_13: Or five or whatever it is you got.
- 25:43SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 25:44SPEAKER_10: Um I'm trying to remember who they were.
- 25:48SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 25:50SPEAKER_10: So, and I'm not in any particular order.
- 25:52SPEAKER_12: Yeah, that's fine.
- 25:53SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 25:54SPEAKER_10: Um Vito Brata.
- 25:57SPEAKER_10: Uh Paul Gilbert.
- 26:00SPEAKER_10: Reb Beach from Winger.
- 26:04SPEAKER_10: Um shoot.
- 26:10SPEAKER_10: Vito Brata.
- 26:12SPEAKER_10: Reb Beach, Paul Gilbert.
- 26:18SPEAKER_13: I'm surprised it's taking you this long to name Nuno.
- 26:21SPEAKER_10: Oh, Nuno Betancourt, sorry.
- 26:23SPEAKER_10: I knew it was somebody big.
- 26:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:25SPEAKER_10: Um, and let me name him again.
- 26:34SPEAKER_10: So, um Beetle Brata, Reb Beach, Paul Gilbert, Nuno Betancourt.
- 26:43SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 26:44SPEAKER_10: I uh uh I'm not gonna say George Lynch because uh he's not he would have been my list.
- 26:47SPEAKER_10: I know he would.
- 26:48SPEAKER_10: I yeah, we'll hear your list in a second.
- 26:50SPEAKER_13: I don't really have a list.
- 26:51SPEAKER_10: You don't well you will hear in a second.
- 26:53SPEAKER_10: Um if you're if you're including No, because no I'm gonna say Oh, I'm hung up on the fifth one.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: Um maybe I'll just say Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.
- 27:13SPEAKER_10: There's my big six.
- 27:14SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 27:15SPEAKER_10: So Vito Brata, Paul Gilbert, uh Reb Beach, Nuno Betancourt, uh Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai.
- 27:24SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 27:24SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 27:25SPEAKER_10: Do you want to give it a shot?
- 27:27SPEAKER_13: Well, I would agree, I would agree with all those, except I would add George Lynch.
- 27:31SPEAKER_10: You would add him or would you replace one of them?
- 27:33SPEAKER_13: I wouldn't replace any well, I might replace Satriani.
- 27:36SPEAKER_10: Okay, why?
- 27:37SPEAKER_13: Because he was only doing his own thing.
- 27:39SPEAKER_13: I mean, surfing with an alien.
- 27:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:42SPEAKER_13: Not really.
- 27:44SPEAKER_13: I mean, it was huge in certain circles.
- 27:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_13: It was never like m everybody was like, oh, Satriani, you know, uh, you know.
- 27:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:52SPEAKER_13: And I would also add Eddie.
- 27:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, no, if if you know if I didn't exclude Eddie, he would be obviously number one.
- 27:59SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 28:00SPEAKER_13: Um I mean, he came out in the 70s.
- 28:02SPEAKER_13: Yes.
- 28:03SPEAKER_13: But I mean he still defined the 80s.
- 28:05SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 28:05SPEAKER_13: Because everybody was doing finger tapping and okay.
- 28:08SPEAKER_10: So you want to do that?
- 28:09SPEAKER_10: Let's do that then.
- 28:10SPEAKER_10: So uh let me change it.
- 28:11SPEAKER_10: So Vito uh Eddie Van Halen.
- 28:13SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 28:14SPEAKER_10: Vito Brata.
- 28:15SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 28:15SPEAKER_10: Um, Paul Gilbert, Reb Beach, and Nuno Betancourt.
- 28:20SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 28:20SPEAKER_10: That's my big five.
- 28:21SPEAKER_13: All right.
- 28:21SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 28:22SPEAKER_10: And you would re you wouldn't replace anybody there.
- 28:25SPEAKER_10: You'd add on George.
- 28:26SPEAKER_13: I would add George Lynch.
- 28:27SPEAKER_10: So you would say that big five plus George Lynch.
- 28:29SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 28:29SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 28:29SPEAKER_10: Let's see what Ultimate Classic Rock uh said here.
- 28:33SPEAKER_10: They uh they only named the big four.
- 28:35SPEAKER_10: And judging from the picture, I see two of them, I think.
- 28:38SPEAKER_10: Maybe.
- 28:38SPEAKER_10: We'll see.
- 28:39SPEAKER_10: Um their first one, of course, is Eddie.
- 28:43SPEAKER_10: Nope, it's not.
- 28:44SPEAKER_13: Not Eddie?
- 28:45SPEAKER_10: No, hold on.
- 28:46SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 28:46SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 28:48SPEAKER_10: Maybe they maybe they uh uh ruled out Van Halen.
- 28:51SPEAKER_10: Hold on.
- 28:52SPEAKER_06: Mm-hmm.
- 28:53SPEAKER_10: Let's let's get the big one out of the way first.
- 28:55SPEAKER_10: This list does not include Eddie Van Halen.
- 28:57SPEAKER_10: We've limited our picks to guitars who debuted in the 80s, and because Van Halen released their debut album in 78, their namesake, Axeman, is sadly disqualified.
- 29:05SPEAKER_10: Well, I like your reasoning.
- 29:07SPEAKER_10: Because yes, he came out in the 70s, but you're right, he defined the 80s.
- 29:11SPEAKER_13: I mean, yeah, he came out in the 70s, but by the 80s, everybody was doing Eddie stuff.
- 29:16SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 29:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 29:18SPEAKER_13: Reb Beach.
- 29:18SPEAKER_13: Yep.
- 29:19SPEAKER_13: George Lynch, Vito Barata, Noodle Betancourt.
- 29:21SPEAKER_13: Nuno Betancourt.
- 29:22SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 29:22SPEAKER_13: So, I mean, they were all doing 80 stuff.
- 29:24SPEAKER_10: Um, let's see.
- 29:26SPEAKER_10: That still leaves an enormous crop of outrageously talented guitarists to choose, and making our choices for the big four, we evaluated their technical abilities, songwriting, prowess, and total output.
- 29:35SPEAKER_10: So while Extreme's Nuno Betancourt is arguably the finest guitarist of the glam metal era, Extreme only released one album in the eighties, and they didn't hit their stride until uh Pornograffredi in in the 1990s.
- 29:46SPEAKER_10: So they're out they're they're getting they're taking out Eddie and they're taking out Nuno because Nuno came out in like eighty-nine or eighty-eight.
- 29:53SPEAKER_13: It's always still in the eighties.
- 29:55SPEAKER_13: I know.
- 29:56SPEAKER_10: Uh likewise, Michelangelo Batteo, uh who's he's a he's an amazing speed guitar player, uh, but uh not uh popular among guitarists.
- 30:08SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 30:10SPEAKER_10: Um ultimately we selected guitarists who could shred circles around 98% of the population, but whose songs also earned a spot and the pantheon of hard rock anthems.
- 30:19SPEAKER_10: Okay, so this should be interesting.
- 30:20SPEAKER_13: You know who else we're not mentioning?
- 30:21SPEAKER_13: Oh Ingve.
- 30:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 30:24SPEAKER_10: But I mean he was a niche.
- 30:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you're right.
- 30:27SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 30:28SPEAKER_10: Yep, he was.
- 30:28SPEAKER_13: I mean, only like neoclassical and I think only people that listen to Rush were listening to Ingve too.
- 30:35SPEAKER_13: Well, you know what I mean?
- 30:36SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:36SPEAKER_13: You know what I mean?
- 30:37SPEAKER_13: Because it's in that same vein because it's it's you know, it's you know, it's it's epic and you know, lots of classical influences where Rush is more prog, right, you know, and just doing their own thing.
- 30:48SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 30:49SPEAKER_13: Of course, if you want to throw Alex Lifeson in there, because none of those guys have a chord named after him.
- 30:56SPEAKER_13: Just saying.
- 30:58SPEAKER_10: Let's see uh if we agree with their choices.
- 31:01SPEAKER_10: There's where the big four.
- 31:02SPEAKER_10: So uh number one, Randy Rhodes.
- 31:04SPEAKER_13: Yeah, but like you said, he died in '82.
- 31:06SPEAKER_10: He died in '82.
- 31:07SPEAKER_13: I mean, yeah, he's still an influence.
- 31:09SPEAKER_10: He started the big influence.
- 31:10SPEAKER_10: Big influence.
- 31:10SPEAKER_10: No question.
- 31:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 31:11SPEAKER_10: He started the eighties, but he he only He only made it two years into the 80s.
- 31:16SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 31:16SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 31:16SPEAKER_10: So Unfortunately.
- 31:18SPEAKER_10: Um that's why I ruled him.
- 31:19SPEAKER_13: Can you imagine where he'd be now?
- 31:20SPEAKER_13: I know.
- 31:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 31:22SPEAKER_13: He would have been, he would have been, he would have been the biggest.
- 31:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 31:26SPEAKER_13: I mean, we we'd be sitting here and going, Eddie Who?
- 31:28SPEAKER_13: Oh, yeah, oh yeah, I remember heard of that.
- 31:29SPEAKER_10: Oh, I don't know about that.
- 31:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I know.
- 31:30SPEAKER_10: I don't know about that.
- 31:31SPEAKER_10: I'm just I'm being facetious, but then.
- 31:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I think they would be contemporaries.
- 31:33SPEAKER_13: They've been right up there, yeah.
- 31:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I would I think they they would be contemporaries.
- 31:37SPEAKER_10: Uh Steve Vai.
- 31:39SPEAKER_10: Steve Vai is their number two.
- 31:41SPEAKER_10: Although Steve Vai's solo career flourished in the 90s, he established himself as a hard rock guitar virtuoso.
- 31:46SPEAKER_10: Of course, he was in Zappa's band.
- 31:48SPEAKER_13: Uh yeah, I totally forgot about Zappa.
- 31:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and then uh slip of the tongue, he was, of course, it was what like we said with Roth.
- 31:55SPEAKER_10: So yeah.
- 31:56SPEAKER_10: Um did I include him?
- 31:57SPEAKER_10: No, because we put Eddie back in there, right?
- 32:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 32:00SPEAKER_10: So mine were Eddie, Vito.
- 32:02SPEAKER_13: I think you uh you kept Satch, but you didn't know.
- 32:04SPEAKER_13: No, I don't think I did because I thought you did.
- 32:06SPEAKER_10: Eddie, Vito, Reb, Paul Gilbert, and Nuno.
- 32:11SPEAKER_10: Nuno, okay.
- 32:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so yeah, no, I got rid of Satch too.
- 32:14SPEAKER_10: Oh, there's Satch.
- 32:16SPEAKER_10: Speaking of uh you can't put Steve Vai in the Big Four of 80s shredders without also shouting out his teacher.
- 32:22SPEAKER_10: Um Joe Satriani gave lessons to several rock and metal luminaries, including Kirk Hammett, Alex Skolnick.
- 32:29SPEAKER_13: Yeah, see there's another guy we haven't talked about Kirk Hammett.
- 32:32SPEAKER_10: Kirk Hammett.
- 32:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 32:34SPEAKER_13: But I mean he was more he wasn't he wasn't a thing until the 90s.
- 32:40SPEAKER_13: Because Metallica was pretty underground up until the black album, which was 91.
- 32:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 32:46SPEAKER_10: So and he's a great guitar player.
- 32:48SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 32:49SPEAKER_10: Uh and and influential, no question, because Metallica themselves are so influential.
- 32:54SPEAKER_10: But I still wouldn't put him up there.
- 32:56SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 32:57SPEAKER_10: I would.
- 32:57SPEAKER_10: I don't know I'd put him.
- 32:58SPEAKER_13: I I mean, like he'd be down there, but I mean he's still I mean, metal-wise, yeah, he's still in there.
- 33:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:04SPEAKER_10: You know, right.
- 33:05SPEAKER_10: Um George Lynch.
- 33:07SPEAKER_10: This is one that you would put in.
- 33:08SPEAKER_13: I would put George Lynch in there.
- 33:10SPEAKER_10: Um George Lynch and Dodd Knockin reported clash so often in Dawkins that they had to schedule separate recording sessions.
- 33:16SPEAKER_10: Uh but Lynch's stormy temperament also manifested in some of the fiercest guitar playing of the glam metal era.
- 33:22SPEAKER_10: Dawkins' trio of peak eighties albums, Tooth and Nail, Under Lock and Key, and Back for the Attack abound with catchy muscular rifts and head spinning solos.
- 33:32SPEAKER_10: Don't get me wrong, I love George.
- 33:33SPEAKER_10: I love Back for the Attack is one of my favorite albums.
- 33:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_10: My favorite Dawkins album for sure.
- 33:39SPEAKER_10: I know you like probably like Tooth and Nail or something.
- 33:41SPEAKER_13: I like them all.
- 33:42SPEAKER_13: I don't really have a favorite album.
- 33:43SPEAKER_13: I just like them all.
- 33:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:45SPEAKER_10: So now yeah, I wouldn't have I wouldn't have put George Lynch in there.
- 33:49SPEAKER_10: And that's I mean, it's just a matter of taste.
- 33:51SPEAKER_10: Maybe I was I was the Flash guy.
- 33:53SPEAKER_10: Vito Brata for sure.
- 33:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:55SPEAKER_10: Nock and course.
- 33:56SPEAKER_13: See, I I wouldn't have put Paul Gilbert in there, even though he was a shredder.
- 34:00SPEAKER_13: He wouldn't have been in my original list.
- 34:02SPEAKER_13: If you hadn't mentioned him, I would have totally forgot about him.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: Really?
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: He was in Racer X and Oh yeah, I know.
- 34:07SPEAKER_10: Mr.
- 34:07SPEAKER_13: Big and all that, you know, but I I I just it would have totally right off, you know, gone.
- 34:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, he's yeah, he's probably because Mr.
- 34:16SPEAKER_13: Big wasn't as quote unquote big as me.
- 34:20SPEAKER_10: But you know, so well he did the he did the drill and the pick thing before Eddie did.
- 34:25SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I mean I'm a big fan of him now.
- 34:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:28SPEAKER_13: But back then I w I was I was I was all about George Lynch.
- 34:32unknown: Yeah.
- 34:32SPEAKER_13: And Eddie Van Halen.
- 34:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_13: So yeah.
- 34:35SPEAKER_13: But I'm just saying and new note because I love the first extreme album.
- 34:38SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 34:39SPEAKER_10: So yeah, no.
- 34:41SPEAKER_10: Um I think we we had mentioned all the people on that list.
- 34:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:45SPEAKER_10: You know, so I think we were pr pretty pretty close.
- 34:48SPEAKER_10: Who are I mean, who else could we let's see, eighties uh just just thinking outside the box for 80s rock guitar.
- 35:01SPEAKER_10: Uh one that comes to mind not hard rock, but rock guitar, is uh Spider from uh Pat Benatar's Pat Benatar's husband.
- 35:13SPEAKER_13: Oh, Neil Geraldo.
- 35:14SPEAKER_10: Neil Geraldo.
- 35:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah um also um who else was that?
- 35:20SPEAKER_10: Oh, Keith Scott from Brian Adams.
- 35:23SPEAKER_14: Nah I'm not familiar with that.
- 35:24SPEAKER_10: No, no, no.
- 35:25SPEAKER_10: Great guitar player.
- 35:26SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 35:26SPEAKER_10: Uh but again, not hard rock.
- 35:28SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 35:28SPEAKER_10: Not hard rock.
- 35:29SPEAKER_10: I'm just thinking of like bands from the 80s.
- 35:32SPEAKER_10: Neil Sean.
- 35:33SPEAKER_10: Neil Sean, yeah.
- 35:34SPEAKER_10: You know, Neil Sean, of course, that was they were more of a But that was more like big arena arena rock quote.
- 35:40SPEAKER_10: But in um Zach Wilde?
- 35:44SPEAKER_10: That was that was nineties.
- 35:45SPEAKER_10: That was nineties.
- 35:46SPEAKER_10: That was nineties.
- 35:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 35:46SPEAKER_10: Who was playing for Aussie in the 80s?
- 35:48SPEAKER_10: Jakey Lee?
- 35:48SPEAKER_13: Jakey Lee, uh was Richie Blackmore playing for him?
- 35:51SPEAKER_10: No.
- 35:51SPEAKER_10: Richie Blackmore, no, no.
- 35:53SPEAKER_13: No.
- 35:53SPEAKER_10: Uh oh, it was uh um Brad Gillis there for what one tour.
- 35:57SPEAKER_10: Oh, Brad Gillis.
- 35:58SPEAKER_10: Well, he took over for Randy when Randy took it.
- 36:00SPEAKER_10: The one tour, yeah.
- 36:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so uh and then Jakey Lee, and then I thought it was Zach, wasn't it?
- 36:06SPEAKER_10: Zach came after Jakey Lee, didn't he?
- 36:08SPEAKER_13: I didn't think Zach came around until like early 90s maybe.
- 36:13SPEAKER_10: Well, how long did Ozzy take a break there after um yeah, I don't know.
- 36:19SPEAKER_10: Hard to tell with Ozzy.
- 36:20SPEAKER_10: Well, what No Rest for the Wicked, is that 90s?
- 36:22SPEAKER_13: No Rest for the Wicked?
- 36:23SPEAKER_13: Yeah, wasn't it?
- 36:24SPEAKER_13: I thought that was late 80s or mid 80s.
- 36:25SPEAKER_10: And that's Zach Wilde.
- 36:27SPEAKER_13: Is it?
- 36:27SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 36:27SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 36:28SPEAKER_10: I could be wrong.
- 36:29SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 36:30SPEAKER_13: I just want to find out because I'm I haven't talked to Zach in a while, so I don't I don't know what's going on.
- 36:33SPEAKER_10: So uh Ozzy guitarists.
- 36:38SPEAKER_10: And I'm I'm just doing this because I'm curious and I can.
- 36:41SPEAKER_13: Because we have to know.
- 36:43SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 36:45SPEAKER_10: Aussie guitarists in order.
- 36:48SPEAKER_10: So, Randy Rhodes from 79 to 82, Jakey Lee from 82 to 87, Zach Wilde from 87 to 92.
- 36:56SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 36:56SPEAKER_10: I I thought he was later, but uh Brad Gillis was of course in 1982, Bernie Tormey, also in 1982, Joe Holmes, Gus G, and Andrew Watt.
- 37:07SPEAKER_10: Uh yeah.
- 37:08SPEAKER_10: So so 87 to 92.
- 37:11SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 37:13SPEAKER_10: So technically, I mean you could put you could put Zach Wilde.
- 37:16SPEAKER_10: You could put Zach in there.
- 37:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 37:17SPEAKER_10: Um I don't know that I would.
- 37:19SPEAKER_10: I don't think so either.
- 37:20SPEAKER_10: What about like dieback?
- 37:22SPEAKER_10: Was that a different thing?
- 37:24SPEAKER_13: Again, nobody heard of Pantera till the early nineties.
- 37:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's probably true.
- 37:28SPEAKER_13: So I mean, even though they were around in the late 80s, they were doing like glam metal, but uh nobody was paying any attention until they like till Cowboys from Hell came out, and then everybody's like, oh, it's Pantera.
- 37:40SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 37:41SPEAKER_13: So So no, Dime Bag would be more nineties.
- 37:44SPEAKER_10: You know who we're missing though?
- 37:46SPEAKER_10: You.
- 37:47SPEAKER_10: No.
- 37:47SPEAKER_10: You should have been in there.
- 37:50SPEAKER_08: I'm about to just say I'm Brian I'm a Brian I'm awesome.
- 37:55SPEAKER_09: Is that what you said?
- 37:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:57SPEAKER_09: Maybe that's the name of the podcast.
- 37:59SPEAKER_10: That's that's my impression of you.
- 38:00SPEAKER_16: I'm Brian, I'm awesome.
- 38:01SPEAKER_16: I'm Brian, I'm awesome!
- 38:03SPEAKER_10: World Stone! I mean, I can't believe they didn't say this.
- 38:06SPEAKER_10: I mean, this this would be number one, Cece Deville.
- 38:11SPEAKER_13: See, he wouldn't even made my list.
- 38:13SPEAKER_13: I mean, no, no, the boy was good.
- 38:14SPEAKER_13: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:15SPEAKER_13: The boy was good, but I mean he was not I'm just kind of joking.
- 38:19SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I know, but I mean I wouldn't ever put him on I never I don't even put him on any great guitarist lists.
- 38:24SPEAKER_10: No, neither do I.
- 38:25SPEAKER_10: I mean he he he he played, you know, what needed to be played for the songs.
- 38:30SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 38:30SPEAKER_10: You know.
- 38:31SPEAKER_13: But he was never anything like everybody was like, oh my w you know, nobody was like ever about Right.
- 38:36SPEAKER_13: Like he never went solo or never played with anybody else.
- 38:39SPEAKER_13: You were just like just from poison.
- 38:42SPEAKER_10: Key Marcello.
- 38:46SPEAKER_13: Bless you.
- 38:47SPEAKER_10: I was waiting for that.
- 38:48SPEAKER_10: I don't know what that is.
- 38:50SPEAKER_10: Key Marcello is a Swedish guitarist who took over for John Norum in Europe.
- 38:57SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 38:58SPEAKER_10: And I was a highly underrated guitar player from the 80s.
- 39:02SPEAKER_10: Um he did their superstition album or superstitious uh album and then a couple other ones.
- 39:10SPEAKER_10: And I just love the guy's tone.
- 39:12SPEAKER_10: Uh his tone was amazing and his playing was unreal and but he wouldn't be on my list.
- 39:17SPEAKER_13: I'm just I'm just making conversations.
- 39:21SPEAKER_13: You're just you're just adding names.
- 39:23SPEAKER_13: Oh, Steve Winters.
- 39:26SPEAKER_13: Who's who's Steve Winters?
- 39:28SPEAKER_13: He played with uh that guy.
- 39:31SPEAKER_13: That guy that sang songs.
- 39:34SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah, and he had that bass player with him?
- 39:36SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah, that guy.
- 39:39SPEAKER_13: Which would probably in the 80s probably would have been Rudy Sarzo.
- 39:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 39:43SPEAKER_09: Bass player in the 80s.
- 39:44SPEAKER_09: It's gotta be Rudy Sarzo.
- 39:46SPEAKER_09: Rudy Sarzo.
- 39:47SPEAKER_10: So who did who did Rudy play for?
- 39:49SPEAKER_10: He played for Quiet Riot.
- 39:50SPEAKER_10: Quiet Riot, Ozzy, um Um Whitesnake.
- 39:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah, White Snake.
- 39:55SPEAKER_10: He was all over the place.
- 39:57SPEAKER_10: He was all over the place.
- 39:59SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 40:01SPEAKER_10: Are we there yet?
- 40:02SPEAKER_10: Are we all are we already out there?
- 40:03SPEAKER_13: Are we all out of stuff?
- 40:04SPEAKER_10: I I think so.
- 40:05SPEAKER_13: Wow.
- 40:06SPEAKER_10: I mean, yeah.
- 40:08SPEAKER_13: I don't have But we did have a very nice conversation with guitar players.
- 40:12SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 40:12SPEAKER_13: I feel like I feel it was very productive.
- 40:14SPEAKER_10: I is I do as well.
- 40:15SPEAKER_10: Good.
- 40:16SPEAKER_10: And I think we we we came to a consensus.
- 40:18SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 40:19SPEAKER_10: And um, I think we can We know a lot about guitar players.
- 40:21SPEAKER_10: We we know a lot about guitar players.
- 40:23SPEAKER_10: You know more than I do.
- 40:24SPEAKER_10: Well, that's okay.
- 40:26SPEAKER_10: You know more about drummers than I do.
- 40:28SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I don't know.
- 40:28SPEAKER_13: I will I don't know if I'd go that far.
- 40:43SPEAKER_10: Speaking of drummers and get so I gotta last week uh I don't even remember what the question was.
- 40:53SPEAKER_13: Oh, you can you can pull straight out of the top here.
- 40:56SPEAKER_10: The question no, I mean the question the question is the past one.
- 40:59SPEAKER_13: Oh the past one now was the uh I don't know.
- 41:05SPEAKER_10: What were the answers then I could tell you?
- 41:09SPEAKER_13: I don't remember what the answers are.
- 41:10SPEAKER_10: What did she give you a response?
- 41:12SPEAKER_13: I haven't looked yet.
- 41:14SPEAKER_13: I hope she gave you a response because uh she's on vacation, so I had uh like reminder.
- 41:19SPEAKER_13: Oh, did you I talked to her?
- 41:22SPEAKER_13: I've been talking her all week, but uh I she she hasn't said anything as a okay yeah.
- 41:27SPEAKER_13: Oh, there's the one above the one.
- 41:31SPEAKER_10: That's right, that's right.
- 41:33SPEAKER_10: Okay, I know what you're talking about now.
- 41:35SPEAKER_13: Uh yeah.
- 41:37SPEAKER_13: No, this is what she said Yeah, and I would I haven't even uh I haven't even read this yet, so.
- 41:48SPEAKER_13: She just literally just said it.
- 41:50SPEAKER_13: Okay, so okay.
- 41:53SPEAKER_13: This week was hard.
- 41:54SPEAKER_13: I love Dreamweaver, but of the three is not as much of a love song as the other two.
- 41:59SPEAKER_13: Any wise music lover enjoys any Elvis song, can't help falling in love is iconic.
- 42:04SPEAKER_13: But I love the lyrics of Barenaked Ladies, did I say that out loud?
- 42:07SPEAKER_13: They were just perfect for background music when someone sees the one.
- 42:11SPEAKER_13: Anywhere you're gonna be, that's where I wanna be.
- 42:14SPEAKER_13: They tell you not to plan too far, but I'm already miles, she's quoting the song.
- 42:17SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah, but I'm already miles ahead, and I intend to be wherever you are.
- 42:21SPEAKER_13: Don't know what's gonna hold of me, it's greater than gravity.
- 42:24SPEAKER_13: They tell you not to plan too far, but we are.
- 42:28SPEAKER_13: Perfect lyrics for a love at first sight song.
- 42:30SPEAKER_10: Can't argue with that.
- 42:31SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I don't think that's good.
- 42:33SPEAKER_13: So sh I think she made an excellent choice there.
- 42:34SPEAKER_13: I do.
- 42:35SPEAKER_13: And I'm not being biased at all.
- 42:36SPEAKER_10: That's okay if you are.
- 42:38SPEAKER_10: Because it was a good choice.
- 42:39SPEAKER_13: I am being biased.
- 42:40SPEAKER_13: That was awesome! Okay, so this week's question was I don't even know.
- 42:48SPEAKER_13: Uh a documentary about you and your travels across Europe has been made what artist plays during the scenic travel montages.
- 42:55SPEAKER_13: Oh, yeah.
- 42:55SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 42:56SPEAKER_13: So now it said artist, so we could have just picked an artist.
- 42:59SPEAKER_13: But I pick I picked, of course, I picked a song I want to play during the Which is okay.
- 43:04SPEAKER_13: I I assume that's what you guys did.
- 43:06SPEAKER_10: I did.
- 43:06SPEAKER_13: I haven't uh read Cousin Larry's here yet.
- 43:10SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 43:12SPEAKER_13: Okay, Cousin Larry, mixtape.
- 43:14SPEAKER_13: There are a lot of great travel songs out there.
- 43:16SPEAKER_13: Going mobile by the Who comes to mind right out of the gate, and so does Life as a Highway by Tom Cochran.
- 43:22SPEAKER_13: But I love the vacation movies and all the craziness and Chevy Chase's me going through Europe, so I'll go with Holiday Road by Lindsay Buckingham.
- 43:30SPEAKER_13: Honorable mention to Wild One by Wakefield from the movie Euro Trip.
- 43:34SPEAKER_13: The scene where he wears the Pope hat is so me.
- 43:36SPEAKER_13: No dis no disrespect to the Pope.
- 43:38SPEAKER_13: Love that guy.
- 43:40SPEAKER_13: I didn't even thought of that.
- 44:00SPEAKER_10: Solo anthology, it's the the 2018 remaster.
- 44:04SPEAKER_10: I don't want to play that.
- 44:04SPEAKER_10: I don't want to play that.
- 44:05SPEAKER_10: Let's let's do this one.
- 44:06SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 44:06SPEAKER_14: See, this is it.
- 44:13SPEAKER_10: Now it says it's instrumental.
- 44:14SPEAKER_10: Hold on, hold on.
- 44:16SPEAKER_10: Sorry, Larry.
- 44:17SPEAKER_10: This has gotta be it right here.
- 44:30SPEAKER_10: I'm sorry, this is the extended.
- 45:00SPEAKER_10: I think I can get behind that.
- 45:03SPEAKER_13: As long as you're okay with it.
- 45:04SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_13: Doesn't matter because I'm learning.
- 45:08SPEAKER_13: I can curve the pro because you prove.
- 45:12SPEAKER_13: I can cur it.
- 45:15SPEAKER_12: I'll allow it.
- 45:16SPEAKER_12: I'll allow it.
- 45:18SPEAKER_12: Alright, what do you got?
- 45:19SPEAKER_13: I went with uh Metallica.
- 45:22SPEAKER_13: Wherever I know.
- 45:24SPEAKER_13: Surprise.
- 45:25SPEAKER_13: But I went with the song Wherever I May Roam.
- 45:29SPEAKER_10: So see, you guys took a different take on this than I did.
- 45:32SPEAKER_13: Well, you know, I'm ro I'm traveling across Europe, apparently.
- 45:36SPEAKER_13: You know.
- 45:37SPEAKER_13: So, you know, I'm roaming across Europe.
- 45:50SPEAKER_10: You're gonna make fun of me for my choice.
- 45:53SPEAKER_13: I would never make fun of you for your choice.
- 45:55SPEAKER_10: Yes, you would.
- 45:56SPEAKER_13: Unless of Taylor Swift.
- 46:03SPEAKER_13: Sorry.
- 46:03SPEAKER_13: This is just the way it is.
- 47:39SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 47:40SPEAKER_10: I can see that.
- 47:41SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_13: I think that would be a great montage song.
- 47:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so I I I I don't know, I'm almost apprehensive to to to play your mind.
- 47:51SPEAKER_10: Um because I I went for a vibe.
- 47:54SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 47:54SPEAKER_10: Um more than anything else.
- 47:56SPEAKER_10: Uh and um let me see if I can find it here.
- 48:05SPEAKER_10: And I don't know I don't know why I went for a vibe or this or this artist.
- 48:13SPEAKER_10: Um yes, I do.
- 48:29SPEAKER_10: Okay, so you guys actually went for the the the trip.
- 48:35SPEAKER_10: Uh wherever I may roam, holiday road, you know, I just went for vibe.
- 48:40SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 48:41SPEAKER_10: And I figure it was European.
- 48:44SPEAKER_10: And it would be like like behind the scenes footage or whatever of me on the my travels.
- 48:52SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 48:53SPEAKER_10: So this is what I did.
- 48:57SPEAKER_10: I f I I I viewed it as like a PBS thing.
- 49:00SPEAKER_10: You know?
- 49:01SPEAKER_10: It's like Ken Burns narrator or something.
- 49:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah, this is Sting and Fields of Gold.
- 49:06SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 49:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 49:12SPEAKER_15: You remember when the streams on the fields on the You forget the sun in a shell of sky as we walk in the field.
- 49:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, see it doesn't really fit.
- 49:31SPEAKER_13: Like, but I can see it.
- 49:37SPEAKER_13: So she's more like uh, you know.
- 49:41SPEAKER_13: Like those, you know, big landscape shots, you know what I mean?
- 49:44SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 49:44SPEAKER_13: Oh look, there's the Italian coast, there's uh, you know, the the Swiss Alps.
- 49:49SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you know.
- 49:50SPEAKER_10: It was either gonna be this or something from uh like Van Morris.
- 49:59SPEAKER_15: Uh yeah, but I'm gonna go with this.
- 50:06SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 50:07SPEAKER_15: I like it.
- 50:08SPEAKER_15: It is jealous guys.
- 50:09SPEAKER_10: Okay, so Fields of Gold by Sting.
- 50:12SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 50:13SPEAKER_10: Wherever I may roam by Metallica.
- 50:14SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 50:15SPEAKER_10: And Lindsay Buckingham's Hollywood.
- 50:17SPEAKER_10: Oh those are your choices.
- 50:19SPEAKER_10: Illustrious What do you what do we call her?
- 50:22SPEAKER_10: Illustrious Judgeness.
- 50:23SPEAKER_10: Judgeness.
- 50:24SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 50:25SPEAKER_10: Um, alright.
- 50:26SPEAKER_10: So you're gonna take a picture of that.
- 50:28SPEAKER_13: You're trying to tell me you get me to tell you her name.
- 50:30SPEAKER_13: No, I wasn't.
- 50:31SPEAKER_13: Yeah, you very silly.
- 50:33SPEAKER_10: I kinda well I really want to know who she is because I think we would get along pretty well.
- 50:38SPEAKER_13: Oh, she would get along with everybody.
- 50:40SPEAKER_13: Um she'd be a great, like, fourth member of the uh of the podcast.
- 50:45SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 50:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's that's that's why I'd like to know who she is.
- 50:48SPEAKER_10: But it's almost more fun.
- 50:49SPEAKER_13: Yeah, it it's not knowing she enjoys being known.
- 50:53SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 50:54SPEAKER_10: Are we ever gonna know who she is?
- 50:56SPEAKER_13: I I'm I'm leaving it up to her.
- 50:58SPEAKER_13: If she ever wants to reveal herself, then more, you know, then we'll go with it.
- 51:04SPEAKER_10: And you're you're adamant that I don't know her.
- 51:06SPEAKER_13: You don't I I'm almost 99.9999999999% positive you don't know her.
- 51:13SPEAKER_10: I don't know her.
- 51:14SPEAKER_10: So, yeah.
- 51:15SPEAKER_10: Does she know me?
- 51:17SPEAKER_10: She knows of you.
- 51:18SPEAKER_10: Only only from this podcast, probably.
- 51:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 51:20SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 51:21SPEAKER_10: Mostly.
- 51:21SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 51:24SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 51:26SPEAKER_13: I'm sending it to Cousin Larry.
- 51:28SPEAKER_13: Next week's question.
- 51:28SPEAKER_13: Okay, so next week's question is.
- 51:31SPEAKER_13: I thought this was kind of neat.
- 51:32SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 51:33SPEAKER_13: The first song you remember memorizing by heart.
- 51:38SPEAKER_10: Oh my.
- 51:39SPEAKER_10: I know, right?
- 51:43SPEAKER_13: I was like, whoa, that's gonna be a brain buster.
- 51:47SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 51:49SPEAKER_10: I have the one popped into my head already.
- 51:52SPEAKER_10: So hopefully I remember that for next week.
- 51:54SPEAKER_10: But yeah.
- 51:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, that's good.
- 51:57SPEAKER_10: That's a good one.
- 51:58SPEAKER_10: I like that.
- 51:58SPEAKER_10: Um liked it too.
- 52:00SPEAKER_13: Alright, so Yay, mixtape!
- 52:02SPEAKER_10: So uh that's mixtape for this week.
- 52:04SPEAKER_10: We're gonna come back.
- 52:06SPEAKER_13: I wonder if there's other like uh games like that.
- 52:10SPEAKER_10: There must be.
- 52:12SPEAKER_13: I have no idea.
- 52:13SPEAKER_13: I think it's someone of those like uh, you know, crowd breaking games.
- 52:17SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I think it's one of those crowdsource The song and scenario card games.
- 52:22SPEAKER_13: You know.
- 52:24SPEAKER_13: Kind of like uh cards against humanity type, you know, just a bunch of people put in a bunch of money and then they you know, that kind of thing.
- 52:32SPEAKER_13: Um I don't think it's like you know, Hasbro or Parker Brothers or something like that.
- 52:36SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 52:37SPEAKER_13: So it says breaking games on it.
- 52:39SPEAKER_13: I don't know who that is.
- 52:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it doesn't matter.
- 52:42SPEAKER_13: We know no, we just like the game.
- 52:44SPEAKER_13: We like the game.
- 52:45SPEAKER_10: So uh okay, so uh we'll come back.
- 52:47SPEAKER_10: Doug's gonna read you a story.

- 54:21SPEAKER_10: Maybe.
- 54:22SPEAKER_10: Maybe from the book Hard.
- 54:29SPEAKER_10: Did I mention that school starts this week?
- 54:31SPEAKER_13: Yeah, that sucks.
- 54:33SPEAKER_13: School is stupid.
- 54:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:36SPEAKER_13: You can that'll be the name of the podcast.
- 54:39SPEAKER_13: School is stupid.
- 54:40SPEAKER_13: School is stupid.
- 54:41SPEAKER_13: S-T-O-O-P-I-D.
- 54:43SPEAKER_13: Oh.
- 54:43SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 54:44SPEAKER_10: Remind me to tell you about Yeah, okay, I'll I'll remember after this.
- 54:49SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 54:49SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 54:50SPEAKER_10: I gotta tell you a story.
- 54:51SPEAKER_13: Alright.
- 54:51SPEAKER_10: Go ahead.
- 54:52SPEAKER_13: Alright, so from the revolver album, I'm only sleeping.
- 54:55SPEAKER_13: Speaking of school.
- 54:58SPEAKER_13: Uh the first draft of John's lyric for I'm Only Sleeping was scratched on the back of a letter from the post office dated 25 March 1966.
- 55:07SPEAKER_13: Reminding him that he owed them 12 pounds and three shillings for an outstanding radio phone bill.
- 55:14SPEAKER_13: Things are weird in England.
- 55:15SPEAKER_10: Apparently.
- 55:16SPEAKER_13: Why would you pay a radio phone bill at the post office through the post office?
- 55:20SPEAKER_13: Did they pay it for him or would they run it?
- 55:22SPEAKER_13: I don't know.
- 55:23SPEAKER_13: I don't know.
- 55:23SPEAKER_13: British socialism is stupid.
- 55:26SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 55:27SPEAKER_13: Um it's obvious from reading this early lyric that he was writing about the joys of staying in bed rather than any drug-induced dream state, which the final recording with its back-to-front guitar sound suggested.
- 55:40SPEAKER_13: John loved his bed.
- 55:41SPEAKER_13: When he wasn't sleeping in it, he would be lying on it, or sitting propped up by pillows writing, or watching television.
- 55:47SPEAKER_13: I'm Only Sleeping celebrated the bed and its value as a place for contemplation.
- 55:52SPEAKER_13: It also prefigured watching the wheels on the double fantasy album.
- 55:58SPEAKER_14: Oh.
- 55:59SPEAKER_13: The one we did, the Yoko, right?
- 56:01SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 56:01SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 56:02SPEAKER_13: Um the truth, however, was that John was losing his grip on the Beatles, spending too much time either in bed or lazing around Kenwood.
- 56:10SPEAKER_13: Paul was now the one who was cracking the whip and making sure everyone turned up for sessions.
- 56:15SPEAKER_13: It was also in March 1966 that the Evening Standard ran Maureen Cleve's famous interview with John, where he declared that, quote, we're more popular than Jesus now.
- 56:25SPEAKER_13: I don't know which will go first, rock and roll or Christianity.
- 56:28SPEAKER_13: Unquote.
- 56:30SPEAKER_10: It's hyperbole.
- 56:32SPEAKER_10: People got, they didn't get it then, but it was in the interview.
- 56:41SPEAKER_13: He said, I don't mind writing or reading or watching or speaking, but sex is the only physical thing I can be bothered with anymore.
- 56:48SPEAKER_10: This is Lennon?
- 56:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 56:52SPEAKER_13: Alright, so there we go.
- 56:54SPEAKER_13: Hey, here we go.
- 56:56SPEAKER_13: It's a great song.
- 56:56SPEAKER_13: I love this song.
- 56:57SPEAKER_13: I do too.
- 57:04SPEAKER_13: I mean, it's it's a John song, but it's very heavily influenced by Paul like that.
- 57:09SPEAKER_10: And he's yeah, he's got his fingerprints all over it.
- 57:26SPEAKER_10: I like this video.
- 57:27SPEAKER_10: I know, it's kind of neat.
- 57:28SPEAKER_10: It's on the it's on their their web, their YouTube page.
- 57:35SPEAKER_10: It's uh animated.
- 57:36SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it's cool.
- 57:47SPEAKER_07: Keeping an eye on the world going by my window.
- 57:54SPEAKER_07: Taking my time when I wake up early in the morning.
- 58:03SPEAKER_07: I'm still yelling when I'm in the middle of a dream.
- 58:08SPEAKER_10: Alright, I gotta tell you the story before we do before we climb the wall of tubes.
- 58:11SPEAKER_13: Before you forget it.
- 58:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah, before I forget it.
- 58:14SPEAKER_13: So I would have forgotten about it.
- 58:16SPEAKER_10: I don't remember what day it was.
- 58:18SPEAKER_10: Uh see, where is it?
- 58:20SPEAKER_10: Today's Tuesday.
- 58:21SPEAKER_10: It might have been Sunday night.
- 58:25SPEAKER_10: Might have been Sunday night.
- 58:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I think it was Sunday night.
- 58:31SPEAKER_10: Anyway.
- 58:32SPEAKER_10: So I had an opportunity.
- 58:36SPEAKER_10: So my wife was doing work on her computer on the No no, never mind.
- 58:42SPEAKER_10: My s I had three of my kids in the living room at one time, which is rare.
- 58:49SPEAKER_10: Uh Myra had been watching TV and she was kind of getting bored of it.
- 58:53SPEAKER_10: And uh my wife was kind of walking around and she had just come back from a walk or something like that.
- 59:00SPEAKER_10: She that's right, because she walked in.
- 59:02SPEAKER_10: I started Strange Brew.
- 59:04SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 59:05SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 59:05SPEAKER_10: And so they start watching Strange Brew and they didn't know what to think of it at first because they're like, they're like, is this the movie?
- 59:15SPEAKER_10: Because you know how it starts.
- 59:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 59:16SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 59:17SPEAKER_10: It's like this this is this the movie?
- 59:19SPEAKER_10: I said, just keep watching.
- 59:21SPEAKER_10: And then my wife, who knows the value of this movie to me.
- 59:29SPEAKER_10: She knows the value of this movie to me and us.
- 59:33SPEAKER_10: And she knows she knows it's it's a la dumb and dumber.
- 59:38SPEAKER_10: It's one of those you have to turn your brain off for.
- 59:40SPEAKER_10: Absolutely.
- 59:41SPEAKER_10: Um and she couldn't pull herself away.
- 59:47SPEAKER_10: I don't know if it's because she wanted to see how the kids took it.
- 59:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 59:51SPEAKER_10: But well Finn was Finn had a long day, so he watched it for a little bit and then he was conked out.
- 59:56SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 59:57SPEAKER_10: Um, but I think Eli really liked it.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_10: Myra didn't get it.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_13: Uh, but I I I get that because it's like three stooges.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_13: Women don't get the three stooges.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_13: Oh, right.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_13: And it's the same, it's that same kind of humor.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_09: But the whole the whole um I gotta be so bad I can taste it.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_09: Uh let me put it right here.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_12: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_13: How about right here?
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_13: Oh, that feels good.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_13: That feels good.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_13: It's just full of one-liners like that that we love that we just that make that we love about the movie.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_13: You know, like you know, it's like sh, where's the buck?
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_13: You know, it's just ridiculous lines like that that nobody else would get, but we love.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_13: I can live in this.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_13: I can live in this band.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_13: I can live in this van while he's bossing me around.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_13: Our brother hooked up our stereo.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_09: It was jeans, eh?
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_10: But I hadn't watched it for a long time, and I'm sitting there, you know, you know when you're watching a movie that you've already seen and and the people with you haven't seen it, and you're like, oh, you gotta watch this part, you know?
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_10: It's one of those, you know, one of those things.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_13: You want them to enjoy it like you do.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_13: Right.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_10: So it was so that was pretty cool.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_10: I took um actually it wasn't, it wasn't Sunday night.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_10: It must have been like Friday night.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_10: Because I took Myra to the movies on Saturday.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_10: Um Freakier Friday.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_10: So I took I took her in.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_10: I walk in and Dow goes, I got a bone to pick with you.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_10: And I said, What's that?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_10: And he said, How has Eli never seen This Is Spinal Tap?
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_10: And I said, And I said, you know, just the opportunity hasn't come up.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_10: And I said, You're getting that movie?
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_10: Oh, yes, we're getting that movie.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_10: Oh, sweet.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_10: And uh I said, but I did just show him Strange Brew.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_10: He's like, okay, well, you just redeem yourself.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_13: Yeah, so you know, there's somebody I'd like to have on the podcast sometime.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_13: Dow?
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_13: Dow.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_13: Are you kidding me?
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_13: Dow would be funny, man.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_13: I don't think he would do it.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_13: I don't either.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_13: But I mean, it would just be funny to have him on.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_10: It would be fun.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_10: So I just memories from Record Town and I'm gonna do it.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_10: I know, right?
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_10: F-Y-E.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_13: I still have a great picture of me and Dow and Andy, the uh manager, and Bob Marley.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_10: Oh, really?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_13: When when he came to the store and did a sign there.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_13: I have a great picture of all four of us there, and I love I love that picture.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_10: Um Yeah, those were good times.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_10: I was in there almost every day.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_13: So was I, but I was working.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you were working.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_09: But I would I would any chance that I any chance.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_13: I know that was like the place to go, man.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_13: Even if I wasn't working, I was going there.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_13: You know, we just love to go there, just like, you know, cruise the stuff.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_13: You can't do that anymore.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_10: No, you can't.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_13: You can do it at you know, KMH, but you know, it's it's you know it is different.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_13: It's different, yeah.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_13: It is different now.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_10: Um all right, so I have an album.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_13: I forgot we were doing the strange brew, man.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_13: This is great.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_10: All right, so I have an album.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_10: Oh, that was all right.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_10: Let the guessing begin.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_13: Thank you.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_10: Oh, not that not to change the subject, but you know our friend Pat?
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_10: You know he went to see Toto, Christopher Cross and Men at Work?
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he told us about that.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_13: Oh my word.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he told us when he uh when we did the the music trivia night.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_10: He told me in here.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_10: He told you he was going.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_10: Well he he went and he sent me a couple videos.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_10: Oh no.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_10: I am so jealous.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_13: Oh, I don't blame you.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_10: Anyway.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_13: Down in Boston.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_10: Uh it must have been.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_10: Must have been down around there, yeah.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_10: Sweet.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_13: Good for him.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_13: Anyway, yeah.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_13: Off subject again.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_13: Yeah, sorry.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_13: Uh solo guy.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_10: Solo guy.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_13: Height of popularity.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_13: 70s.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_13: Jim Crochy.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_10: Uh right vein, wrong artist.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_13: Uh Bill Weathers.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he was 70s.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_13: Yep.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_13: Uh John Denver.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_13: Close or um close.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_13: Um Harry Chapin.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_13: Alright.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_13: Cat's in the Cradle.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_10: This is Harry Chapin.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_10: Greatest stories live.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_10: Oh, nice.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_10: This is actually one of my favorite albums.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_10: Uh I kind of grew up with this album.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_10: Um, I don't know if you know any Harry Chapin besides Cats in the Cradle.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_13: I might know one more song, but that's why.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_10: Um He was great in and not that I've seen him, but he was great in concert.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_13: He's not with us anymore.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_13: He's not.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_10: No, he was he was in a motorcycle accident.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_10: He was killed in a motorcycle accident.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_10: Stupid motorcycle.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_10: I know, right?
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_10: Um the first cut on this album is called Dreams Go By.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_10: And this is great.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_03: Did I write that?
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_03: Christ the rum.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_03: It sounds like the theme from Godfather 2.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_03: It actually does.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_10: It's a great way to start our concert.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_04: Listen.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_04: If you count really extra fantastic, maybe we can get to that lame piece of music that starts this song, okay?
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_02: Did he start the song yet?
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_04: Okay, so so just count with so much energy that it will get us through those next two.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: Bars.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: Are you ready?
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_04: You gotta really blow the house down.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_04: Harry, don't mess it up.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_10: He had a lot of humanity in his songs.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_10: A lot, a lot of uh I don't know, I don't know how else to explain it.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_10: I'll just play it for a bit.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_03: There you stand and you dung green.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_03: Look at all grown-up and suburbs.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_03: When you write your palms, they have so much to say.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: When you take your dreams and take my breath away.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_03: You know I'm gonna be a liar.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna get your food.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_03: But I guess my dreams must wait a while.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_03: And so you're gonna do a watch and do you watch on the way?
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_10: Uh just a great song.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_10: Um course has the one where he was a DJ.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_10: Uh W O L D.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_10: Old.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_04: I have trouble getting my songs on the radio because they're too long, but this is a song that snuck on for on the charts for about 15 minutes.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_14: I think I know the song.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_03: Hello, honey, that's me.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_14: Great song.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_03: What did you think when you heard me back on the radio?
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_03: What did the kids say when they knew it was their long-lost daddy?
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_03: Oh Remember how we listened to the radio, and that's it, that's the place to be.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_03: And now I got the job as an FM job.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_03: Today you married me.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_03: It was two kids, and I wasn't the AM round.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_03: But I just had to run around.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_03: It's been a gift since I left your free.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: Let me tell you about what's gone down.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_03: I am on a tea.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_10: And that's the greatest thing about his songs is their stories.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_10: You know, um, that's why it's called Greatest Stories Live.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_10: Um, I'm not gonna play too many more because I mean there's one song on here that's 10 minutes, there's one song that's 11 and a half minutes, seven minutes.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_10: Of course, the the the big hit Cats in the Cradle is on here.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_10: Um see if he says anything.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_10: Well there's a So there's that, and then there's Taxi.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah, Taxi was a big hit.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_10: 30,000 pounds of bananas.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_10: Oh, that's why.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_14: That's why the scream bananas.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_04: Now, there's only one other last requirement, and that is we'd like to get the uh the LA Memorial Choir in on this one.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_04: Uh you guys, I guess you're game.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_04: You've been game all night, okay?
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_04: Now it's uh it's a low part, but it builds up.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_04: Last and all last statement is that uh this song starts out with an absolutely brilliant Chet Atkins guitar leak that it took me about four hours to steal, and I we should appreciate it when it comes by.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_03: It was just after dark when the truck started down.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_03: That's the thing.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_10: You can't really you can't really start the song because you want to hear the story.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_10: Uh this one though is relatively short because it's called Shortest Story.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_02: I am born today.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_02: The sun burns a promise in my strikes me and I draw a breath and cry.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_02: Above me a cloud soft flat tumbles through the sky.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_02: I am glad to be alive.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_10: It is my there's a song on here called Mr.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_10: Tanner, which is about like a janitor.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_10: All fantastic stories, and you get sucked in.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_10: I mean it's it's it's po pop folk.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_10: I mean, it's you know, but you get sucked into the story, and he d he's just such a good or was such a good um showman and storyteller, and he had he had the audience in the palm of his heart.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_10: So that's the album.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_10: Uh Harry Chapin, greatest stories live.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_10: Nice stuff.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_10: I recommend A Better Place to Be, which is another great song.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_10: Of course, Taxi.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_10: Uh I Wanna Learn a Love Song, which is I want to learn a love song too.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_10: Which is also a great one.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_04: Oh for Nancy?
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_04: This is for Nancy.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_13: That was easy, yeah.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_04: I never did it too, Nancy, so I'll do it for her, okay?
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_10: Sorry, Blanchard children.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_10: Sorry, Blanche and Children.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_03: Come on.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_13: We've done Harry Nielsen.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_10: Another great one is Saturday morning.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_10: It's just this album is I had the the album when I was a kid.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_10: This is on CD, but um, I had the the the album and albums are awesome.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they are.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_13: No, we've never done Harry Chaper.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_13: Well, there you go.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_13: So here we go.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_13: Here we go.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_13: Putting him in the book! Part of two in the book.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_10: Alright, so that is episode two, fifty four.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_13: Two fifty four fifty four.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_13: It's gonna be three hundred before we know it.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_13: That'll be next year.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_13: Probably.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_13: I mean you figure we got what forty-six more episodes until three hundred.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_13: So that's forty-six weeks, you know, we take a week a couple weeks off.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_13: So we're we're looking at next year.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_10: Around this time next year.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_13: Probably.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_13: Yeah, roughly.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_13: Because we'll probably take another we'll probably take a week off.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_13: Two couple weeks off this year.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_13: We don't take you know, we don't take much time off.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_10: We don't.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_13: Which is weird.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_13: Because like when you listen to other podcasts, they're like, oh, we're doing it bi-weekly, you know, and then they have like a two-hour podcast.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_10: Either bi-weekly or they do like seven episodes and then they're gone.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_13: Yeah, they just do like a series.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_13: Yeah, and then they don't come back for another boring.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_13: I know, right?
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_13: We're here every week, doggone it.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_13: We're like weekly Jehovah's Witnesses.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_13: Because we're each other's only friends.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_13: We're just have you heard about you're our Lord and Savior?
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_13: Hello?
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_13: Hello?
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_13: Is that a gun I hear?
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_10: Dude, you and I should dress up sometime and just walk around.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_10: As Jehovah's Witnesses.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and just walk around the neighborhood.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_13: I thought uh we should dress up like the those Mormon kids.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_13: They just wear the suit and ties and they just walk around.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_13: Just walk around, we'll just be like, have you have you heard about our Lord and Savior, Eddie Van Halen?
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_09: No, don't say anything.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_13: Oh, just walk around.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_09: Just walk around.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_10: And watch all the doors close.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_14: We'll be like, hmm.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_10: Ah, that would be funny.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_10: See, my daughter keeps telling us we need to do like videos like that, like content like that.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_10: And I just looks like it's just so much work.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_13: Well, if we if you know if we had more time.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, it's true.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_13: You know, and we had the equipment.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_13: Well, I mean, I guess we have the equipment.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_13: Because you can do it on the phone.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you probably could.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_13: You know, they're pretty good.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_13: You know, but you know, she's she's so she's way smarter than we are.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_10: That's true.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_13: And so, I mean, I I I like I appreciate her suggestions, but again, her being super smart and super organized and a go-getter, yeah, and we're not that any of those things.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_13: Well, we're we're kinda smart.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_10: Well, not super smart.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_13: Not super smart, we're kinda smart.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_13: We're not really go-getters.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_13: We're kind of like just here.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_13: Doer do-ish.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_13: Hit record.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_13: Doer-ish.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_10: We don't even edit this thing anymore.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_10: Remember in the beginning we would just take you like like three days to edit it, yeah.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_10: We would chop it up because I think we'd I don't know, I don't remember why.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_13: I don't remember either.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_13: Well, because you know, I was doing it over the phone too.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_10: Well that too, yeah.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_13: So it sounds like a you know over.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_10: But now it's like we turn we turn it up a little bit and maybe put a little compression on it, and then it's good to go.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_13: Yeah, and we're done.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_13: Pretty much.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_13: Well, I mean, like other podcasts, they do scripts and you know, they got notes and you know, everything like that, and we're just like record, let's talk! This is our podcast.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_13: Welcome to the chaos.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_13: So I like it that way.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_10: I do too.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_13: It's more fun, it's more natural.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_13: You're just hanging out, you're, you know, if you're listening to this, you're just hanging out with us in the basement.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_13: You're you got there's a seat here on the on the on the on the love seat, and you can sit next to me.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_13: I'll put mine on the.
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_13: Hey, watch your hand.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_13: Watch your hand.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_10: Um, but uh, you know, I think we're a well-kept secret.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_13: I think if more people knew about us then I'd be like, yeah, there's a reason why we avoided these guys.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_10: Self-deprecation is just, you know.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_13: Well that I mean, I don't think anybody can beat us on that.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_13: I think we're the kings of self-depreciation.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_13: I really think we are.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_13: I think it's depreciation.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_10: Self-deprecation.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_13: See, I'm smart.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_13: You're smarter! I mean I'll go with that.
- 1:17:20SPEAKER_13: I don't know about that.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_13: Self-deprecation.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_13: Self-deprecation.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_13: Self self self-something.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_13: Defacing.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_13: Self-defacing.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_13: Self-defense.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_10: Self-defacing.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_10: We also have ADD.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_10: I fight you!
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_09: Alright, that's it.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_09: Uh, episode 254.
