- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. And at this time of year, lots
- 0:42of people reevaluate their careers.
- 0:45Maybe you're in a job that you don't really like, maybe that
- 0:49your boss isn't someone you get on well with.
- 0:52And I think a lot of people after the festive break return
- 0:55and really start questioning, is this really where I want to be?
- 1:00And I was working with a client that really felt that way,
- 1:02except that rather than wanting just a different job, they
- 1:07wanted to move from being an employee to being self-employed.
- 1:11They wanted to do their own thing.
- 1:13Now, this client was quite young, so they felt that this
- 1:16was quite a daunting thing to do, but they did have a safety
- 1:20net. And that safety net is that if
- 1:22it didn't work out by doing their own thing, they could
- 1:25always do contract work while they're continuing to work on
- 1:29their own business. That's helpful.
- 1:32It's helpful to not be reckless when you're talking about things
- 1:35like your livelihood, to have a way of just making sure that you
- 1:41have a plan A, but if it doesn't quite go to plan, you're not
- 1:45ruining and risking everything, if that makes sense.
- 1:48Now, I don't think this particular client was going to
- 1:50need that safety net, but I still include the safety net as
- 1:53a metaphor within this to highlight that they can be more
- 1:57bold, more audacious, more comfortable with risk, knowing
- 2:02that they have that safety net than if they didn't.
- 2:06But the main metaphor here is the metaphor of security and
- 2:11freedom and that. Uses a zoo.
- 2:13So right now I want you to think of your favorite zoo animal.
- 2:18Maybe you know, I like lions and tigers and things like that, you
- 2:22know, very impressive majestic creatures.
- 2:25I also like rhinos and things like that.
- 2:27So I want, I want you to think of your favorite zoo animal and
- 2:30just imagine that if you were that animal and you had a choice
- 2:34to make of the safety and security of the zoo.
- 2:38You get your meals everyday, there's a vet on hand, it's
- 2:42predictable. There's no poachers and
- 2:44predators trying to kill you. But your life is mundane, it's
- 2:48repetitive. It gives you limited options as
- 2:52to what you can do if you're in that zoo.
- 2:54That represents security and comfort, but almost boredom or
- 2:59monotony less of autonomy. And then the other option is if
- 3:04that was you and you were that zoo animal, and you could choose
- 3:07between the zoo or freedom being out in the wild, what would you
- 3:12choose? And this isn't one of those
- 3:14trick questions where everyone chooses freedom.
- 3:17That isn't the case. Some people have a hierarchy of
- 3:21values and they would much prefer the security and
- 3:26predictability of being in the zoo and to use the analogy here,
- 3:32having a job. Then they would want the freedom
- 3:36that is linked to entrepreneurship or
- 3:39self-employment. And that's because of risk.
- 3:42There is much more risk outside of the zoo than there is inside
- 3:46of the zoo. But equally there is less
- 3:48freedom. And think about this, if you're
- 3:50an employee, if you want to take six months off, are you really
- 3:55going to have a job to go back to when you do that?
- 3:57Now, some employers might be quite flexible and offer a
- 4:01sabbatical if you're lucky. But equally, if you just decide
- 4:05that you want to do something different in your job, follow a
- 4:10different strategy, follow different rules, you're probably
- 4:13going to get disciplined in that environment.
- 4:15So there is a trade off and I want you to think of what's more
- 4:20important for you and if the idea of being free from the zoo
- 4:25is more appealing. There's probably a little bit of
- 4:28an entrepreneur within you that actually would value being
- 4:32self-employed or being your own boss much more than being an
- 4:36employee. So think about that because this
- 4:39session is really about making the transition from being an
- 4:43employee to being self-employed to being the master of your own
- 4:47destiny. It carries risks, but I can
- 4:50really relate to this particular client because I've only had two
- 4:54jobs in my life and my last job I was 23 years old.
- 4:59That's when I became self-employed and I would never
- 5:02consider going back to employment because I have so
- 5:06much more autonomy and I steer my life in the direction that I
- 5:11want to do. But with that does come a huge
- 5:15responsibility. You have no boss to report to.
- 5:19You are your own boss. And therefore, if you're not
- 5:22structured and disciplined and you know, you know what you're
- 5:27doing, actually, it can be a dangerous place out there in the
- 5:31wild. But for some people, that's
- 5:34where they thrive best. So think about you and what you
- 5:37want and use this either for inspiration, just as a thought
- 5:41experiment to feel where your values are, or if you feel that
- 5:45you could be ready to move into self-employment, maybe there's
- 5:49something in this session that unlocks a resource to make that
- 5:52happen. Now, it was created for an
- 5:54individual. This individual had two weeks of
- 5:57annual leave and they were going to use that time to prepare
- 6:01everything for their new business and then hand in their
- 6:03notice to resign from their business, from their from their
- 6:06job. That is unlikely to be your
- 6:09situation. So if you do like the idea of
- 6:11something like this but completely tailored to you,
- 6:14there will be a link in the description where you can book a
- 6:17free consultation call to explore working with me.
- 6:20If you can't find it there, check out my website,
- 6:23adamcox.co.uk and you'll be able to book a free consultation
- 6:26call. We'll have a chat on Zoom and we
- 6:28might end up working together. For now, though, find a quiet,
- 6:32comfortable place, the kind of place where you won't be
- 6:34distracted or disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 6:55Take a deep breath in and as you're breathing in, breathe in
- 7:05that wonderful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 7:10And as you exhale, feel a wonderful feeling of release, as
- 7:18if any doubts, hesitations, any worries are slowly leaving your
- 7:26body in your outward breath. Eyelids feeling heavier, jaw
- 7:36feeling loose and neck and shoulders starting to relax even
- 7:42more. That's it.
- 7:46Position your body in a way where it's conducive to getting
- 7:52to that place of enhanced neural plasticity, where thoughts
- 8:00become ideas, ideas become actions, actions become seeds
- 8:06that grow into wonderful results.
- 8:10That's it. And as you breathe in, breathe
- 8:17in a colour that represents self belief.
- 8:25Your intuition. Will let you know what that
- 8:27colour is, maybe bright, vibrant and just imagine breathing in
- 8:34that concentrated feeling of self belief.
- 8:41That's it. And as you exhale any of those
- 8:47insecurities and doubts, any second guessing starts to leave
- 8:55your body as almost grey shadows, breathing in that self
- 9:05belief and exhaling the doubts. Almost like each breath gives
- 9:14you a feeling of even more belief than the previous breath.
- 9:23And every exhale releases more of those doubts, uncertainties.
- 9:31That's it. And sometimes people think of
- 9:38the trade off between false security and freedom is like a
- 9:47zoo animal. The zoo animal gets the regular
- 9:53meals, the vet on hand if they get sick.
- 10:00But they're trapped in the zoo, a cage, looked at, monitored,
- 10:08prodded. And then there is life outside
- 10:17the zoo, the real world. And there is no regular meals
- 10:27outside the zoo. There is no certainty.
- 10:36And I want you to think of your favorite animal and imagine the
- 10:41choice between remaining in the zoo with certainty or having the
- 10:48freedom to explore what is truly possible for you.
- 10:58No guarantee of your next meal, but infinite possibilities
- 11:05rather than seeing the same cage again and again and again.
- 11:12And I want you to imagine you've been in that cage, in that zoo
- 11:19maybe for a year or two or more, and you see an opportunity.
- 11:28Maybe it's a door that was not locked properly, or maybe you're
- 11:36being transported from one zoo to another and there is an
- 11:41opportunity to be free. And in that moment a decision
- 11:51gets made. Do you remain in the certainty,
- 12:01in the scrutiny, in the false comfort, or do you seize the
- 12:10moment to do what you're destined to do?
- 12:19And I want you to imagine your workplace as being the zoo and
- 12:25self-employment, life beyond the zoo.
- 12:32And I want you to think of a period of annual leave.
- 12:41This is how you prepare to escape.
- 12:48I want you to imagine that two weeks is more than enough to see
- 12:56if you're ready. Because life outside the zoo
- 13:04won't have the manager and the zookeeper.
- 13:08There's no accountability. You are accountable only to
- 13:13yourself and your clients. So consider this two week period
- 13:24as a wonderful opportunity to test if you're already ready.
- 13:33Because if in that two weeks you're able to structure your
- 13:38day, plan your outcomes, work on doing things that makes a
- 13:44difference to accomplish more in those few days that many people
- 13:52would take in several weeks, then at the end of that two
- 13:58weeks, you would know that you're ready.
- 14:04And if in that period of two weeks there's too much
- 14:08hesitation, procrastination, it tells you one of two things.
- 14:17Either you're not yet ready to leave the zoo, or this idea is
- 14:29not the way of escaping the zoo. And a great question to ask is
- 14:42if not this, then what? And if no good alternative comes
- 14:51to mind, then this probably is the thing.
- 14:57And if not now, then when? And if it doesn't feel like
- 15:03there'd be a better time, then now is the right time.
- 15:14I want you to feel a sense of decisiveness, that you're
- 15:24mentally ready. In ancient Rome they would say
- 15:34carpe diem, seize the day, don't wait for it to happen, make it
- 15:45happen. And if your unconscious feels,
- 15:49then this period of preparation is the ideal time to escape from
- 16:00the zoo. Let me know by nodding your
- 16:03head. Forewarned is forearmed.
- 16:12They could be things that are obstacles.
- 16:16Maybe these are distractions. You'll know the things that
- 16:22distract you. Getting lost in social media,
- 16:28doom scrolling, thinking too much on low priority things,
- 16:39doing things that don't need to be done at the expense of those
- 16:42things that do. I want you to think of those
- 16:49things in the past that did get in the way and then think for
- 16:57this two week period, how do you enable and harness the past as
- 17:06reconnaissance to avoid the pit halls?
- 17:12Those pitfalls that you fell in before, how do you avoid them
- 17:15now? For some people, they have their
- 17:23phone in a different room and when they're working, they're
- 17:28working. For some people, they schedule
- 17:36and structure, they prioritise, they zone out.
- 17:44Anything else but the thing that needs to be done.
- 17:48And I want you to think of a time in your past when you did
- 17:53something not because someone else was asking you.
- 17:59You did something on your terms in the way that aligns with you,
- 18:08and did it to a high standard, not because you had to, but
- 18:14because you wanted to. And when you can recall that
- 18:17memory, observe yourself back then.
- 18:23And maybe you had a uncluttered environment, maybe you had a
- 18:37certain facial expression of posture, maybe you were in a
- 18:42particular place and just mimic how you were back then when you
- 18:47were in that state of doing what needed to be done on your terms.
- 18:56And then step into that version of you and feel what it would
- 19:01feel like to be focused, motivated, productive, to do
- 19:07what needs to be done. And when that's activated, let
- 19:11me know by nodding your head. And then imagine observing you
- 19:17in the future, using that two week period to prepare your
- 19:23escape. Notice what time you wake up.
- 19:30Notice how you avoid interruptions or distractions.
- 19:36Notice how you structure or schedule your day.
- 19:41Notice what you do so that you see an enthusiastic, empowered,
- 19:50productive version of you. Seal yourself with all of the
- 19:54qualities that you want to embody, not just in your escape,
- 20:03but when you are your own boss, answerable only to yourself, and
- 20:13if you can see that future version of you in that state,
- 20:18accomplishing. Significant things.
- 20:22Then imagine at the end of that period you have unlocked another
- 20:30level within, call it evolution, maturity or progression.
- 20:41And I want you to imagine seeing that version of you on the very
- 20:45next day, perhaps emailing or standing a resignation letter,
- 20:54making it clear you are no longer an employee and you don't
- 21:03stop being an employee at the point where you finish working.
- 21:12You stop being an employee at the moment you make a decision
- 21:17and back it up with action. Your employment ends the moment
- 21:23they accept that resignation. Everything else is just a lag
- 21:28time. You are already self-employed
- 21:33the very moment they receive that resignation letter.
- 21:39Self-employment starts in that second.
- 21:43And then imagine seeing that similar energy to that two week
- 21:52preparation during the notice period.
- 21:59See yourself continuing to prepare, create content, reach
- 22:06out to certain people, prepare materials, network, progress
- 22:15your own business. And if you could imagine, then
- 22:22this, this two weeks is how you escape.
- 22:32But once you've escaped the notice period is the runway to
- 22:39launch, to be free, to be wherever you desire to be.
- 22:49And I want you to see moments of success, a video gaining
- 22:57traction, a website finished, a first client acquired that first
- 23:08successful campaign with that client.
- 23:13Now your imagination to reveal to you those milestones of early
- 23:18successes. Each time you see one, let me
- 23:22know by nodding your head. This is life beyond the zoo.
- 23:39Daunting, difficult, but you have an edge.
- 23:46I want you to see yourself with a safety net you won't need, but
- 23:53is there just in case. I don't want you to think of
- 24:01circus acts on the trapeze. By them knowing that there is a
- 24:09safety net. They are more audacious, more
- 24:14committed, they take bigger risks.
- 24:19That is the point of a safety net, not to think you're ever
- 24:24going to need it, but to feel free to fully lean into this new
- 24:32identity. That you.
- 24:34Are self-employed. You are the founder, you are the
- 24:41entrepreneur, you are the owner, and the safety net just empowers
- 24:48you to be even more of all those things.
- 24:57Allow your unconscious to try to think of reasons why this may
- 25:02fail. But for every problem, allow
- 25:08your unconscious to provide you with two or three or more
- 25:12solutions. Because that's what it's like.
- 25:17You don't have to know all the answers and pre empt every
- 25:20problem, just have a deep belief that when problems happen you
- 25:27can solve them, and when mistakes happen you can learn
- 25:32from them and you don't need to know it all right now.
- 25:41When your unconscious mind feels psychologically prepared for
- 25:46this transition, let me know by nodding your head.
- 25:50That's it. Now it's time to return to the
- 25:53present, taking all of this certainty, preparation, self
- 25:59belief and enthusiasm with you. Now it's just a matter of time
- 26:06to take a thought into an idea, an idea into action, and action
- 26:13into reality. So take a deep breath in through
- 26:17your nose and out through your nose.
- 26:21Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, connect and calibrate
- 26:25into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 26:31awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 26:37456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 26:42Open your eyes, 910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
- 26:48awake. Thank you so much for joining me
