Transcript
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into jag Zam. I'm kind DOWNI Stephens, Brian Sexton,
- 0:19Speaker 1: and John Osier are with me on Victory Monday. It's
- 0:22Speaker 1: been a while since we've gotten to say that for
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Jaguars, as they've had that losing skid, but they
- 0:26Speaker 1: finally got a win, and they got a win over
- 0:28Speaker 1: the Titans this week. So let's start out with our
- 0:30Speaker 1: big things. Big thing Number one is finally at the
- 0:33Speaker 1: beginning of that game was not pretty. It wasn't good
- 0:35Speaker 1: football to watch, but the win is a win.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I mean, I know it's really hard to win in
- 0:40Speaker 2: the NFL, and I've learned that the hard way, and
- 0:43Speaker 2: I've always, you know, followed that mantra of just the
- 0:46Speaker 2: win's a win, and you can play really well and
- 0:48Speaker 2: lose and play not so good and win, and it
- 0:50Speaker 2: just takes that from one or two plays each game.
- 0:52Speaker 2: So I told the young guys that that's the learning
- 0:54Speaker 2: lesson here. And I feel like we played with a
- 0:56Speaker 2: little bit more slag today and I know we're gonna
- 0:59Speaker 2: continue to do that offense, even special teams.
- 1:01Speaker 3: We're not gonna be scared.
- 1:03Speaker 2: So we're just gonna keep that going.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Frans doesn't essentially change the outlook of the season. But
- 1:08Speaker 1: it is nice to win, and it's nice to recap
- 1:10Speaker 1: after a win.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Yeah, it's nice to have a little juice in the building, right.
- 1:14Speaker 3: I mean it's not the same energy as if you're
- 1:16Speaker 3: playing meaningful games that all have significance in the standings,
- 1:19Speaker 3: But everybody comes in with a little bit less anxiety,
- 1:22Speaker 3: with a little bit more energy. For John and I
- 1:25Speaker 3: for you in the locker room to talk to a
- 1:27Speaker 3: guy who's got the little brighter eyes and isn't so
- 1:29Speaker 3: quick to want to walk away because he didn't want
- 1:31Speaker 3: to talk about what happened last week. All of this
- 1:34Speaker 3: gives them, I think enough energy and momentum. You have
- 1:38Speaker 3: the Jets, the Raiders, the Titans, and the Colts. Now,
- 1:41Speaker 3: the Colts are a team that is playing into the
- 1:44Speaker 3: final few weeks with a shot. They're on the fringe
- 1:47Speaker 3: of being a playoff team. But you should be able
- 1:49Speaker 3: to if you're properly motivated and energized, go play your
- 1:53Speaker 3: best football on Sunday against the Jets and see if
- 1:55Speaker 3: you can build a little something.
- 1:56Speaker 4: John.
- 1:56Speaker 3: That's what a win means when you get one, especially
- 1:59Speaker 3: at the end like they did yesterday, where they had
- 2:02Speaker 3: to win it in.
- 2:02Speaker 4: The fourth quarter.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple of thoughts.
- 2:04Speaker 6: First off, we know Mac Jones has guts because he
- 2:07Speaker 6: can pull off that outfit and it was absolutely Hey,
- 2:12Speaker 6: all hail Mac.
- 2:15Speaker 5: What you realize or what I realized in the locker room.
- 2:17Speaker 6: It's easy to forget when you're analyzing what's going wrong,
- 2:21Speaker 6: and when you're in the middle of a disappointing season
- 2:23Speaker 6: and you and I, Brian Kai, we start thinking. We
- 2:26Speaker 6: started thinking about the long term and what it means.
- 2:29Speaker 6: It's easy to forget that these guys are players and
- 2:32Speaker 6: they want to win. And the joy for Tank Bigsby,
- 2:38Speaker 6: for Josh Allen Doug talked about it.
- 2:41Speaker 5: That's real stuff. I get that'll.
- 2:43Speaker 6: Win after you're eliminated in a way, it doesn't feel
- 2:45Speaker 6: like a win, but for a day, you know, let
- 2:49Speaker 6: him enjoy good for that.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Our big thing. Number two is worse.
- 2:53Speaker 6: Now.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I mentioned that was not a great football game to watch.
- 2:55Speaker 1: There was not a lot of good fundamentals out there.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But Daguar's not good. Titans are and it's always good
- 3:00Speaker 1: to beat the Titans.
- 3:02Speaker 7: This is a robbery game, you know, this is a
- 3:06Speaker 7: rib game, you know what I mean? So like, hopefully
- 3:10Speaker 7: I don't. I don't know if they told him that
- 3:12Speaker 7: before the game, but I know our message before the
- 3:14Speaker 7: game was this is a robbery game, so where way
- 3:16Speaker 7: you need to feel to get that energy, to get
- 3:19Speaker 7: that aggression up, that the type of game was gonna be.
- 3:22Speaker 7: And you could tell there was that type of energy.
- 3:25Speaker 1: John only got a cameo from me in the back there.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I know you heard it live. It's a little different
- 3:29Speaker 1: when you play the Titans, even in a season like this.
- 3:31Speaker 6: Yeah, and for it's for clarification, I was a little
- 3:34Speaker 6: mad because Josh was wearing my I got it back
- 3:39Speaker 6: after the game. I had on the team fights. All's good. Yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 6: And again with Josh it was I think the theme
- 3:48Speaker 6: in the locker room was just that that he had.
- 3:52Speaker 6: I think the best quote, and I'm paraphrasing, it's good
- 3:55Speaker 6: to feel this way, because I didn't want to feel
- 3:57Speaker 6: sad anymore, and I.
- 3:58Speaker 5: Thought that really some.
- 4:00Speaker 6: To be honest with you, I don't think anything that
- 4:04Speaker 6: happened yesterday will be remembered in the long run. I'm
- 4:10Speaker 6: not sure that they built toward that much, and I'm
- 4:14Speaker 6: not sure that a lot of the guys playing will
- 4:16Speaker 6: be you know, I don't know what the future is,
- 4:18Speaker 6: but they got that win. And I do think for
- 4:21Speaker 6: some of these young guys, getting a couple down the
- 4:24Speaker 6: stretch matters because he got to feel it. And I
- 4:26Speaker 6: know fans have heard that before, but I think it's
- 4:28Speaker 6: still true.
- 4:29Speaker 3: I would agree completely that those guys Brian Thomas Junior, Tank,
- 4:32Speaker 3: big speed, Brenton Strange, we can keep going. The roster
- 4:37Speaker 3: has a lot of young players that need to feel
- 4:39Speaker 3: the success. I say the Jaguars were supposed to be
- 4:43Speaker 3: better than the Titans this year. We expected that they
- 4:44Speaker 3: would be better than the Titans this year. Will Levis
- 4:47Speaker 3: in his first full season as the starting quarterback.
- 4:50Speaker 4: There.
- 4:50Speaker 3: You know, they changed from Derrick Henry. They did have
- 4:53Speaker 3: a very good defensive front. But the Jaguars, other than
- 4:57Speaker 3: the early going where they couldn't stop the run, the
- 5:00Speaker 3: Jaguars were able to, sort of outside of their own mistakes,
- 5:03Speaker 3: got to dictate the pace of action. They didn't let
- 5:05Speaker 3: the Titans get away from them, and when they had
- 5:07Speaker 3: to turn it on, absolutely had no other choice. They
- 5:10Speaker 3: went down the field twice in the fourth quarter to
- 5:12Speaker 3: win the ball game. I can tell you this, the
- 5:15Speaker 3: people in Tennessee this morning are wondering what's up, where
- 5:18Speaker 3: they're at, where they're headed. You know, the Jaguars know
- 5:20Speaker 3: they're going to get Trevor Lawrence back next year and
- 5:23Speaker 3: at least have their quarterback in place. I think Tennessee's
- 5:27Speaker 3: got some more work to.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Do there, Brian, you touched on some of this. We'll
- 5:30Speaker 1: do our final big thing, which is good enough. They
- 5:32Speaker 1: didn't play great, obviously, but they were good enough to
- 5:35Speaker 1: get a win. And we did see certain players shining
- 5:37Speaker 1: and certain players playing well, whether it was Brian Thomas
- 5:40Speaker 1: Junior or Tank Bigsby Brian, there were several different players
- 5:42Speaker 1: that we saw kind of come into their own when
- 5:44Speaker 1: they need to.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Brian Thomas Junior is a guy that you can't throw
- 5:48Speaker 3: the ball to enough, and I know that's been a
- 5:50Speaker 3: storyline for weeks. And Doug Peterson said in his postgame
- 5:53Speaker 3: with Bucky Brooks and the radio yesterday that they made
- 5:56Speaker 3: the decision at halftime that they were really going to
- 5:58Speaker 3: force it. The question why didn't you do that in
- 6:01Speaker 3: the first half? Of course, Doug joked about that, and
- 6:04Speaker 3: there are circumstances and situations that prevent that from happening.
- 6:07Speaker 3: But the more success that Brian Thomas Junior has the
- 6:10Speaker 3: more success tank. Biggsby is going to have that Brenton
- 6:13Speaker 3: Strange is going to have. When you have that one
- 6:15Speaker 3: guy John who opens everything up, then Mack has many,
- 6:19Speaker 3: many more options. It'll help the offensive line play better
- 6:22Speaker 3: when the ball is getting out quickly, going down the field,
- 6:25Speaker 3: stretching things, and of course when the offense is able
- 6:27Speaker 3: to sustain a drive. The defense you noticed yesterday almost
- 6:31Speaker 3: split time of possession for the first time in a
- 6:33Speaker 3: long time. Everything is better when those young players are
- 6:36Speaker 3: having success.
- 6:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they tried to get the ball to
- 6:39Speaker 5: BTJ early.
- 6:40Speaker 6: I think that was one of the ones that Matt
- 6:42Speaker 6: got picked on, and then they didn't have a ball
- 6:45Speaker 6: frankly a whole lot in second quarter. So it's the
- 6:47Speaker 6: old thing where it's hard to get the ball when
- 6:50Speaker 6: you're not in the flow and their team has the
- 6:51Speaker 6: ball all the time. I thought along these same lines,
- 6:54Speaker 6: Jaron Jones, if you're looking for guys who are starting
- 6:59Speaker 6: to show that they can be something to build around, they.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Don't win that game.
- 7:05Speaker 6: If he doesn't play the way he did in the
- 7:06Speaker 6: second half, two pass breakups, the sack, He looked like
- 7:09Speaker 6: an edge rusher, there's something about him. Ventre Miller, guys
- 7:18Speaker 6: like that who play with a passion that it's hard
- 7:22Speaker 6: to not see them being the building blocks of this
- 7:24Speaker 6: thing going forward.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and the young defensive tackles too.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Of me, Mason Smith has played a lot the last
- 7:28Speaker 3: two weeks and he's been reached a couple of times.
- 7:30Speaker 3: But I also saw him yesterday moving guys in the pocket,
- 7:33Speaker 3: which is something they desperately need. The presence in the middle.
- 7:36Speaker 3: There's a lot of young players to be excited about.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yesterday was good for all of them.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Absolutely, stay with's here on jag zonn We're going to

- 8:05Speaker 1: dot Com Slash Promotion Slash four Legged Band Club to
- 8:08Speaker 1: sign up today, Welcome back in It's Victory Monday. We
- 8:12Speaker 1: get to look at some tape from yesterday and they
- 8:15Speaker 1: got to win, so that's always good. I will say
- 8:17Speaker 1: the first half of that football game was not something
- 8:20Speaker 1: that was enjoyable to watch, probably for anybody.
- 8:22Speaker 5: At that point.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That was just bad football. But we're gonna start there
- 8:25Speaker 1: so that we know what was good in the second half.
- 8:28Speaker 1: So Mac Jones had two interceptions in that first half,
- 8:33Speaker 1: I mean the Titans and score tons, So it wasn't
- 8:35Speaker 1: a huge thing, but obviously never want to see interceptions there.
- 8:37Speaker 1: He's trying to force the ball at that point, and
- 8:40Speaker 1: I was a little concerned that we were.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Going to happy.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they're trying to force the ball deep
- 8:47Speaker 3: there and Mac is standing in the pocket. I thought
- 8:49Speaker 3: he should have gotten rid of it about a second
- 8:51Speaker 3: before he did. He took a shot just as he
- 8:54Speaker 3: was releasing it, and I'd have to go back and
- 8:56Speaker 3: ask him about it, but it seemed to me like
- 8:58Speaker 3: if you got rid of it just a little more
- 9:00Speaker 3: decisively right there, he hits Brian a thirty yard line
- 9:04Speaker 3: and Brian has a chance to get to the outside.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Yeah, it wasn't a great throw.
- 9:08Speaker 6: It looked like Brian might have stopped short a little bit.
- 9:12Speaker 6: I have no idea that might yeah, And I think
- 9:16Speaker 6: it was also third down, so there was a little
- 9:18Speaker 6: bit of a throw it up and make something happen,
- 9:21Speaker 6: or you know, you don't lose that much field position. Look,
- 9:25Speaker 6: it's it's uh, it's not gonna be a great offense,
- 9:29Speaker 6: so we should And I think Max's point that he
- 9:35Speaker 6: made on the podium was very interesting. When I asked him,
- 9:37Speaker 6: he told me his great question, by the way, which
- 9:39Speaker 6: I meant, were you the great question?
- 9:41Speaker 4: Excellent?
- 9:43Speaker 6: Was? Was I the great question? But he said that
- 9:48Speaker 6: in the first couple of games that he played, he
- 9:50Speaker 6: had bad first half and he let it affect him. Uh,
- 9:53Speaker 6: he said he went around and told everybody, Hey, that's
- 9:55Speaker 6: not happening today. So credit to him because he wasn't
- 9:58Speaker 6: great in the first half, and he was a lot
- 10:00Speaker 6: better than the second.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about that second interception and
- 10:03Speaker 1: then that play right before the end of the half,
- 10:04Speaker 1: because they were trying to score before the half. And
- 10:08Speaker 1: then you're looking at this, it's kind of scrambling around.
- 10:10Speaker 1: His feet are caught up, and obviously I've not ever
- 10:15Speaker 1: been in that situation. I'm sure it's very difficult to
- 10:17Speaker 1: make a decision, But you're like, no.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Why I was hoping Brian that his decision would be
- 10:22Speaker 6: to lose six yards right, so we could see Cam
- 10:25Speaker 6: a little go for sixty seven, you would have put him.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Out there for sure.
- 10:28Speaker 6: That almost happened. Yeah, and I'm kidding, but I ended
- 10:33Speaker 6: up point now with Cam, we're at.
- 10:34Speaker 5: The end of halves.
- 10:35Speaker 6: When they get around that fifty, I'm kind of hoping
- 10:37Speaker 6: the measurement works out to saying he can hit it.
- 10:39Speaker 3: It's easy to say that you'd like him just to
- 10:41Speaker 3: understand the circumstance and go down and not throw the
- 10:44Speaker 3: ball up like that. But do you have any doubt
- 10:46Speaker 3: that Patrick Mahomes would have made that throw as well?
- 10:48Speaker 3: I mean, he does it all the time. The difference
- 10:50Speaker 3: is he's throwing it to Travis.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Kelsey, who's catching it? Yeah, who's catching it there?
- 10:55Speaker 1: But then with the one second on the clock as well,
- 10:57Speaker 1: because that led to this play which if you guys
- 10:59Speaker 1: watch call football on Saturday, it looks very reminiscent of
- 11:02Speaker 1: what happened to George's quarterback at halftime of their game,
- 11:06Speaker 1: which he got lit up as Josh Heinelan, who talked
- 11:09Speaker 1: about this after the game, said, Oh, no one's gonna
- 11:11Speaker 1: chip me. I'm just I can just run and this
- 11:14Speaker 1: was the result.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Josh's line was funny there too.
- 11:17Speaker 4: He goes.
- 11:18Speaker 6: He was saying, I guess they trusted.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Boy, Yeah, you know, and he trusted his line and
- 11:23Speaker 1: didn't expect it.
- 11:25Speaker 3: This is where you think that sometimes some of these
- 11:27Speaker 3: young coaches think it's Madden.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Hey we got a second left, let's throw it up.
- 11:31Speaker 4: And throwing it up you put your quarterback into why not. Yes,
- 11:35Speaker 4: you don't do this.
- 11:36Speaker 3: You're just you're taken me and you go into halftime,
- 11:40Speaker 3: you're leading three to nothing.
- 11:41Speaker 4: You regrow up and try to get better. That's not
- 11:44Speaker 4: a video game coach.
- 11:45Speaker 1: So will Ovis is playing with an ac joint sprain.
- 11:48Speaker 1: He's been playing with that and I'm sure that did
- 11:50Speaker 1: not help. But he did come back and play in
- 11:51Speaker 1: the second half of this game, and when we saw
- 11:54Speaker 1: the defense kind of turned up a little bit. Obviously,
- 11:56Speaker 1: I'm sure Josh Seck juice them up. But Darrin Jones,
- 11:58Speaker 1: we talked about John has a pass breakup and then
- 12:02Speaker 1: his sack as well, excuse me, his flit sack as well.
- 12:06Speaker 6: He had a day.
- 12:07Speaker 1: He was all over the place.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Yeah, and again, some guys are football players, right and
- 12:13Speaker 6: puts themselves in position to make plays breaks on the ball.
- 12:17Speaker 6: He says something interesting in the post game. After about
- 12:20Speaker 6: week four or five, he started to get used to
- 12:22Speaker 6: the pace of the game. And when that happens, now
- 12:27Speaker 6: you can let your instincts take over. That's a huge sack.
- 12:30Speaker 6: It gets them the ball back. And then he comes back
- 12:32Speaker 6: and he has two pass breakupup two pass breakups in
- 12:35Speaker 6: the fourth quarter. He was out there having fun playing
- 12:39Speaker 6: in the backyard and that's always fun. And he's a
- 12:43Speaker 6: guy that can do that. And Doug mats after the
- 12:45Speaker 6: game he got down, he had some bend on that
- 12:48Speaker 6: pass rush.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Maybe he's the third pass rush.
- 12:52Speaker 3: He's one of those guys along with Inn trel Miller.
- 12:55Speaker 3: We talked about him, all those young guys. But he's
- 12:57Speaker 3: a guy with a lot of potential to be that
- 12:59Speaker 3: guy in the middle of that, to be the nickel
- 13:01Speaker 3: guy next year. I mean, he's strong, he can blitz,
- 13:04Speaker 3: he can play the run, and more than that, he's tough.
- 13:07Speaker 3: He's willing to put his nose in there and mix
- 13:09Speaker 3: it up. We saw that with Trevor.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Yeah, and as might be expected with a young corner. Hey,
- 13:14Speaker 6: could he play outside? I have no doubt he could
- 13:16Speaker 6: play outside. But nickel in this league now is really
- 13:20Speaker 6: a starting position, and it's a position where it's really
- 13:25Speaker 6: hard to find guys who are aware enough of everything
- 13:29Speaker 6: going on around him. To me, that blitz and the
- 13:33Speaker 6: maybe shows you that he needs to be the nickel
- 13:36Speaker 6: and not worry so much about, you know, should he
- 13:39Speaker 6: have the glamour of playing on the outside. He feels
- 13:42Speaker 6: like a nickel back to me, and that's a compliment absolutely.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Let's talk about two of those other guys we've been
- 13:45Speaker 1: talking about, Brian Thomas Jr. And Tank, because they kind
- 13:48Speaker 1: of led to that one scoring drive that the Jaguars
- 13:51Speaker 1: has one touchdown drive that they had this broken down play.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Mac Jones said, maybe I should have thrown it earlier,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but it all worked out in the end. And Brian
- 13:57Speaker 1: Thomas Jor just showing this was after they've been kind
- 14:00Speaker 1: of force feeding him the ball in the second half,
- 14:01Speaker 1: really got him going and he's just a difference maker
- 14:04Speaker 1: when he had the ball in his hands.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Well, that goes to what John was.
- 14:06Speaker 3: You're saying, this is not going to be a good
- 14:08Speaker 3: offense the rest of the way. They're gonna have to
- 14:10Speaker 3: ham an egge it a little bit and play backyard football,
- 14:13Speaker 3: And that's exactly what this is, and it shows you
- 14:16Speaker 3: the instincts of Thomas to be available for his quarterback.
- 14:19Speaker 4: And Max's not a guy that gets out of the
- 14:21Speaker 4: pocket a lot, so he was waiting for the opportunity.
- 14:23Speaker 6: Yeah, sometimes it's not about scheme or play calling. It
- 14:28Speaker 6: was funny Mac after the game sort of chastised himself,
- 14:32Speaker 6: I should have out the pocket, your boy. Gene Fournett
- 14:36Speaker 6: correctly pointed out that him leaving the pocket was what
- 14:38Speaker 6: drew Ard and Key in, so they really didn't have
- 14:41Speaker 6: that much of an idea what was going on. And
- 14:43Speaker 6: that's okay because they made plays in the moment, and
- 14:47Speaker 6: a credit to him and credit BTJ again for being
- 14:51Speaker 6: aware enough to make that play happen.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Also, as much as we talk about BTJ, it really
- 14:54Speaker 1: opens things up for Tank. Whenever Tank plays well and scores,
- 14:57Speaker 1: the team seems to win. So that's a nice combination.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We can get the running game going, get Tank going
- 15:02Speaker 1: as well, and then finally, well, the Titans did have
- 15:04Speaker 1: a chance at this. They had two chances. I'm going
- 15:06Speaker 1: to show you the first one because the second one
- 15:07Speaker 1: wasn't as fun. They were about to score and couldn't
- 15:11Speaker 1: get it done, and it was nice to see the
- 15:13Speaker 1: defense come through on that. Calvin Ridley obviously with a
- 15:15Speaker 1: big catch and kind of then his going out of
- 15:19Speaker 1: bounds as well. I mean, I don't know if his
- 15:23Speaker 1: momentum would have allowed him to turn around anyway, but
- 15:25Speaker 1: he kind of went out before they got the could
- 15:27Speaker 1: get the first down at the goal near the goal line,
- 15:29Speaker 1: I think it was at the two. They could have
- 15:31Speaker 1: gotten a first down these new downs, and he didn't
- 15:34Speaker 1: get there very subtly.
- 15:36Speaker 6: I thought Trayvon kind of made that play. He was
- 15:39Speaker 6: over there and so he got his hands up. Levis
- 15:42Speaker 6: had to throw here about a second late. I think
- 15:45Speaker 6: people up there were sort of criticizing Calvin.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I don't think he could have turned at that point.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know, tough.
- 15:52Speaker 4: I go back to what he said to me in
- 15:53Speaker 4: Dallas last preseason. You know how good I am, right, and.
- 15:56Speaker 6: I'm sure he's that good. I don't know if he's
- 15:57Speaker 6: that good.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Listen, you say it, you better be able to play
- 16:00Speaker 4: it right there, and he.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Didn't, and then I couldn't get it done on that.
- 16:04Speaker 1: They also had that four down sequence in the first half,
- 16:06Speaker 1: which was a little questionable as well, And it's nice
- 16:10Speaker 1: to be on the other side of us for once.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It's very good.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Even after that, you kind of had to hold your
- 16:14Speaker 4: breath because.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit, because I gave the ball right
- 16:16Speaker 1: free and.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Out and put it right back.
- 16:18Speaker 3: But that's where the Jaguars defense made enough place that
- 16:21Speaker 3: they had not been able to do it. Remember the
- 16:22Speaker 3: Packers game, right game is tied, you're thinking, all right,
- 16:25Speaker 3: there's an opportunity here, and they gave up the big
- 16:28Speaker 3: play down the field.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Yesterday they didn't give up the place.
- 16:30Speaker 6: One play we didn't touch on too that led to
- 16:33Speaker 6: the fourth down was when Trayvon almost killed the running back.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Yes, I thought that was as good a play the
- 16:39Speaker 4: game as there was.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Yeah, and it sort of forced it. So again it's
- 16:43Speaker 6: one of those we need more guys around here who
- 16:46Speaker 6: make that big play in the big moment. Not a
- 16:49Speaker 6: lot of players in the NFL could have.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Made that play.
- 16:51Speaker 3: If that game goes to ten nothing at that point
- 16:53Speaker 3: because Pollard scores.
- 16:56Speaker 4: You don't know that you get.
- 16:56Speaker 6: The chance, you don't.
- 16:58Speaker 1: All right, stay with this, we'll give your hot takes
- 17:00Speaker 1: coming up after the break.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Nap move the freight moves.
- 17:16Speaker 1: The freight Magellan Transport go to the coolest office space
- 17:18Speaker 1: in jacksonvill You can apply on line at Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I think just as the game went on, he did
- 17:26Speaker 2: a good job getting opened.
- 17:27Speaker 4: He was open all game.
- 17:28Speaker 2: But I just kind of have to hive him the
- 17:30Speaker 2: ball earlier and let him settle in. You know, as
- 17:32Speaker 2: a rookie, I've been there, you want to get to
- 17:34Speaker 2: get some catches, get going feeling good. And all the
- 17:37Speaker 2: other guys too like that. They're making plays and running
- 17:40Speaker 2: backs and tank on that touchdown and stuff. So we
- 17:43Speaker 2: just got to find a way to feel a little
- 17:44Speaker 2: bit more consistent. But like I said, we didn't roll
- 17:47Speaker 2: over and quit this time, and that's important.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Welcome back to jag Zam this morning on Victory Monday,
- 17:53Speaker 1: and we're gonna do our fire house sub hot takes.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm going first because Mac Jones talked a little bit
- 17:57Speaker 1: about it. Game plan, strategy, minds, a blister hot take,
- 18:01Speaker 1: go for it. They should keep throwing the ball to
- 18:03Speaker 1: that number seven guy.
- 18:04Speaker 4: He's good.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I know you all have been saying this for weeks,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and I know you're dying and you're pulling your hair
- 18:10Speaker 1: out because you wish they did this two months ago.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But Brian Thomas Junior is special. Doug Peterson said, they
- 18:15Speaker 1: made a point in the second half to go to
- 18:17Speaker 1: him no matter what and kind of force feed him
- 18:19Speaker 1: the ball. And this is the result. I mean, it
- 18:20Speaker 1: was not pretty, but they got to win out of it,
- 18:22Speaker 1: and they got Brian Thomas Junior going. And if this
- 18:25Speaker 1: offense is going to be anything going forward this season
- 18:28Speaker 1: next season as well, they need to develop him, continue
- 18:31Speaker 1: to get him better and showcase his skills. And it's
- 18:34Speaker 1: good to see it.
- 18:35Speaker 4: You know.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Doug probably was a little tongue in cheek talking to
- 18:37Speaker 3: Bucky afterwards where he intimated, well, you know, maybe everyone
- 18:41Speaker 3: else is smarter than us.
- 18:42Speaker 4: They know to get the ball to him.
- 18:43Speaker 3: It's just that the practicality of a football coach comes
- 18:46Speaker 3: in in first place. He's like, look, if they've got
- 18:49Speaker 3: double coverage over here and we've got a guy over here,
- 18:51Speaker 3: you know, let's take what we can get, especially with
- 18:53Speaker 3: an offense john that's been struggling. So I think the
- 18:56Speaker 3: point that he really could have made a little bit
- 18:58Speaker 3: better is the hell with it, no matter what, throwing
- 19:01Speaker 3: it down at right.
- 19:02Speaker 6: Yeah, And it makes frankly a little more sense now
- 19:07Speaker 6: in week five, you had Gabe Davis and Christian Kirk
- 19:10Speaker 6: playing who whatever the production of Gabe Davis. He was
- 19:15Speaker 6: a starter, So you're trying to get the ball everybody.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Brian Thomas Junior much like you, Jarion Jones, whatever was
- 19:23Speaker 6: said about him during the draft. This kid is a
- 19:26Speaker 6: rare combination of elite.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Ability.
- 19:31Speaker 6: There's really nothing he lacks, and he's a player like
- 19:34Speaker 6: a lot of these guys come into the league when
- 19:35Speaker 6: they have Brian Thomas I mean Brian Tomas Junior's skill
- 19:38Speaker 6: set and they lack that awareness.
- 19:42Speaker 5: He would be good.
- 19:43Speaker 6: If he was slightly less skillful, because he's a very
- 19:48Speaker 6: good player in.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Terms of mental John, what's your hot take for us?
- 19:53Speaker 5: Off to read it?
- 19:55Speaker 6: Good for these yeah, and good for these guys. Isn't
- 20:00Speaker 6: good for a good guy meaning Mac Jones? Oh look,
- 20:03Speaker 6: I don't necessarily, I don't believe that Mac's destiny is
- 20:08Speaker 6: to be a ten year starter in the NFL. I
- 20:10Speaker 6: do believe his destiny is to be a fifteen year
- 20:12Speaker 6: player in the NFL or as long as he wants to.
- 20:15Speaker 6: Because he's a great guy to have around. He's going
- 20:17Speaker 6: to be prepared. He can get you. You know, if
- 20:20Speaker 6: he was playing for a really really good team, which
- 20:23Speaker 6: guess what, right now, he's not. He could be a
- 20:26Speaker 6: backup and get you two and two when the starter
- 20:28Speaker 6: is hurt for four games. That's what you want from
- 20:30Speaker 6: a backup and handles it well, cares about it. One
- 20:34Speaker 6: for his hometown team. Good. As I said earlier in
- 20:36Speaker 6: the show, this is not going to be something that
- 20:40Speaker 6: we look back on and say this changed the trajectory
- 20:42Speaker 6: of the franchise. Yeah, no, but good for these guys.
- 20:46Speaker 6: There's a bunch of good guys in.
- 20:47Speaker 5: This locker room.
- 20:48Speaker 6: They want to win. It was fun to be around it.
- 20:50Speaker 3: If it changes the trajectory of Mac Jones staying in Jacksonville, sure,
- 20:55Speaker 3: I'd be all for that.
- 20:56Speaker 4: I love that guy. I love the suit.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I just love the quiet, understated swagger that he brings.
- 21:02Speaker 4: He's fun.
- 21:04Speaker 1: I like happy Mack and oh yeah, a win will
- 21:07Speaker 1: make I think everybody in this building looks happier. So
- 21:09Speaker 1: that's good. Say with us here, we'll talk to you
- 21:11Speaker 1: a little bit about what's one. Oh shoot, I'm sorry.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Hold on. It was the hottest of all the hottest. No,
- 21:17Speaker 4: I'm kidding. This is gonna be the best show.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I just there was a lot of chattery yesterday
- 21:24Speaker 3: social media post about how the Jaguars blew the draft
- 21:28Speaker 3: by winning the ball game yesterday. I think Adam Schefter
- 21:32Speaker 3: had something out and they went from first overall to fifth.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Who cares. I get the Travis Hunter thing.
- 21:39Speaker 3: I'd like to have him here too, But for all
- 21:41Speaker 3: the reasons that we've espoused here today, the Tank, Big SPI's,
- 21:45Speaker 3: the Jari and Jones, the Ventrel Millers, the Brian Thomas juniors,
- 21:48Speaker 3: all those young guys, they've.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Got to have some success at the end of the year.
- 21:52Speaker 4: They need to play their best football.
- 21:53Speaker 3: These last four games are very important for young players
- 21:56Speaker 3: for time on task and when you can do.
- 21:59Speaker 4: It with a little bit more juice and a little
- 22:01Speaker 4: bit more energy.
- 22:02Speaker 3: It means that the reps at the end of the
- 22:04Speaker 3: year will be more valuable to them, and you want
- 22:07Speaker 3: that going into next April and the offseason more than
- 22:11Speaker 3: you worry about whether you're picking first or fifth or
- 22:13Speaker 3: seventh or whatever it is.
- 22:14Speaker 6: I've always thought too, Brian, it's sort of a silly topic,
- 22:17Speaker 6: and I understand the topic, but players and coaches are
- 22:23Speaker 6: not going to try to lose, Nope, So it's sort
- 22:26Speaker 6: of out of the control, and I think they're gonna
- 22:30Speaker 6: win a couple of games here the rest of the way.
- 22:33Speaker 6: This one game in early December, I guess it could
- 22:37Speaker 6: hurt the draft status, but I mean, obviously it did.
- 22:40Speaker 6: But you can't play your coach that way, and you
- 22:43Speaker 6: can't expect him to. There's no tanking for Travis. No,
- 22:48Speaker 6: it's not the thing.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Right in twenty twenty, it was full on tank for Trevor.
- 22:53Speaker 1: But that's because it's a quarterback and you have your
- 22:55Speaker 1: quarterback and you.
- 22:56Speaker 6: Have that so it was also a team capable of
- 22:58Speaker 6: losing fifteen oh yeah, yeah without trying.
- 23:00Speaker 3: And look, I think the Jaguars are going to end up,
- 23:02Speaker 3: you know, in the top five to six players, and
- 23:04Speaker 3: this has been said already to be a seven or
- 23:07Speaker 3: eight player first round, impactful players.
- 23:09Speaker 4: So you're going to get a player.
- 23:10Speaker 3: And the Jaguars need them at nearly every position, So
- 23:13Speaker 3: you'll find yourself with a good player.
- 23:14Speaker 4: That's the other thing.
- 23:15Speaker 1: It's not you just need a quarterback or just one thing.
- 23:17Speaker 1: That this team needs several things. So I'm sure they
- 23:19Speaker 1: will find someone that fits.
- 23:20Speaker 3: And selfishly, it's better for us. It's more fun to
- 23:24Speaker 3: talk about.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Winning and Jags fans. I know you want a good
- 23:28Speaker 1: draft pick, but it's nice to win a little bit. Okay,
- 23:30Speaker 1: we don't want to lose out for the rest of
- 23:31Speaker 1: the way, so enjoy this one. Now we will go
- 23:34Speaker 1: to break and we'll come back and tell you a
- 23:35Speaker 1: little bit about what's going on this week. Jags fans,

- 24:09Speaker 4: We gotta go back to work. No, we got another
- 24:11Speaker 4: one coming next week. Hey, just keeps rolling.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Okay.
- 24:14Speaker 4: But I'm so proud of you guys for the way
- 24:15Speaker 4: you work, the way.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You hang together through highs, through lows, adversity, whatever it is,
- 24:21Speaker 1: through injury.
- 24:22Speaker 4: It takes every single one of us. So my hat's
- 24:23Speaker 4: off to you. A great job. But before we go,
- 24:25Speaker 4: we gotta get it back. Okay, we gotta get it back.
- 24:28Speaker 4: So are you ready?
- 24:29Speaker 1: One?
- 24:29Speaker 4: Two, three.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Evolves back? I haven't heard it in a minute. It
- 24:36Speaker 1: is nice to hear it.
- 24:37Speaker 3: I couldn't see the energy from the coach too, right,
- 24:39Speaker 3: I mean we talk all the time about how what
- 24:41Speaker 3: a struggle it can be, and you see the players
- 24:43Speaker 3: and the coach.
- 24:44Speaker 4: But for him yesterday, it was nice to see that
- 24:47Speaker 4: winning's better than losing. I heard better than losing.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Also, get ready for this week scheme because I mentioned
- 24:53Speaker 1: it's brought to you behind it, but it's also throwbacks
- 24:55Speaker 1: once again.
- 24:56Speaker 4: That will bring a lot of energy.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Love the uniforms. I know John loves it. Uh always?
- 25:01Speaker 4: What number will you wear on Sunday? Remember what you
- 25:05Speaker 4: may h who know?
- 25:07Speaker 5: I love it?
- 25:07Speaker 4: Alright?
- 25:07Speaker 1: Say with this this week, we'll tell you a little
- 25:09Speaker 1: bit about the Jets later in the week and what
- 25:11Speaker 1: the Jaggs are gonna be doing.
