- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29From the chicken coop. All right.
- 0:31Recovery week, we're talking about activity and moving and
- 0:37getting out there and making sure that your body is not just
- 0:42sedentary. One of the biggest challenges we
- 0:45have as human beings is the fact that our we've created an entire
- 0:48world that is basically sedentary, sitting down most of
- 0:52the time. You're at your desk.
- 0:54You you know, you are on your couch, You're in your bed,
- 0:57you're at your kitchen counter where a lot of people still work
- 1:01after having, you know, the pandemic and whatnot.
- 1:05You drive to the office in your car, you go into your office,
- 1:09you sit down in your office, you work, work, work, work, work at
- 1:11computers, and then you basically go home, do the whole
- 1:16thing all over again. It is absolutely not what human
- 1:21beings are meant to do. Our bodies are meant to be
- 1:24working. Our bodies are meant to, meant
- 1:26to be moving. The more you sit, the more stiff
- 1:30you become. I mean, I don't know about all
- 1:32of you, but the older that I get, the more I recognize.
- 1:35The more I sit down, the more stiff you become.
- 1:38If you're not taking care of yourself, your body communicates
- 1:41that with you right away. And even my son who is doing
- 1:46school online. He has said to me, you know, I
- 1:51am way more efficient doing it this way so I don't have to sit
- 1:55as much as I did when I was in a classroom.
- 1:56I hated that. And I think, wow, that is so
- 2:00like such an important distinction for even someone
- 2:02that young to recognize it. Because the constant sitting,
- 2:06the constant just being hunkered down in your chairs and not
- 2:11feeling great about the fact that you're constantly hunkered
- 2:14down in your chair to begin with.
- 2:16Psychologically it's not good, but.
- 2:19Just the physical aspect of your body, everything starts to hurt.
- 2:22Your feet hurt, your hands hurt, your arms hurt, your neck hurts.
- 2:25I mean, we're growing tails in the back of our neck.
- 2:29It it is an astonishing fine from years ago, but we're
- 2:33actually actually just a few years ago that because we're
- 2:36constantly looking down at our keyboards, our screens, our
- 2:39phones, whatever it might be. Because of that, our heads are
- 2:43actually starting to grow a bone in the back.
- 2:46So we we're having this little tiny thing.
- 2:49Grow in the back of our neck because of this.
- 2:51I mean, what are we doing to ourselves?
- 2:54It's ridiculous. So a big part that solves that
- 2:58is making sure you're moving. Getting up and moving your butt
- 3:02is a tremendous gift and a capability.
- 3:05So rule of thumb, how do you solve this?
- 3:08How something that you can like start to shift it and make it
- 3:11easy. The easiest shift is every hour
- 3:14you get up. For 5 minutes like that is the
- 3:17easiest. 15 minutes I am going to get up and move.
- 3:20I don't care if you just walk around your office for 5
- 3:22minutes, You set the timer once an hour, you're up for 5
- 3:25minutes. So if you think about that at
- 3:28the end of the day, if you did that for eight hours, you would
- 3:31have 40 minutes that you would have clocked moving, which would
- 3:34have probably been more than you had done in a heck of a long
- 3:36time. Now there are people who will
- 3:40say, well, 5 minutes doesn't matter.
- 3:42Yes, it does. When it's cumulative and it's
- 3:43moving and it's just the beginning.
- 3:45And once you start it, it gives you a completely different
- 3:48mindset and incentive to keep it going because you feel good, you
- 3:52start to notice. That's a huge plus.
- 3:54Now for the overachievers listening, you can always get a
- 3:57stand up desk because it makes a huge difference.
- 4:01You could get a treadmill desks where you could just walk all
- 4:04day while you're sitting on your computer.
- 4:06You could just stand there and work now.
- 4:09It is. Is it for everybody?
- 4:10No. But I promise you, if you did
- 4:13it, you would feel amazing because you wouldn't believe how
- 4:17many steps you're putting in. I'm a mad stepper.
- 4:20As everybody who listens knows I love to walk, walk, walk, walk,
- 4:23walk. And days that I don't, The last
- 4:27couple days with the holiday and the weather and everything else,
- 4:30I have not gotten my steps in. In fact, I have not even hit
- 4:3310,000 steps in a day, which is awful for me considering I
- 4:37typically get, you know, anywhere from 20. 22 to 27,000,
- 4:41So to not hit 10 makes me insane and it makes my body feel awful.
- 4:47And I can promise you right away my hips start hurting and if I
- 4:50had just made the time to go and walk and walk and walk, I would
- 4:54have felt fantastic. But it was OK.
- 4:56I'm not beating myself up for it.
- 4:58I just know where I am and tomorrow, you know, is a day.
- 5:02Where you always can start over. Remember that tomorrow is the
- 5:05day you can always start over. So you have got to give yourself
- 5:08that gift like I did and just start right back in and jump in
- 5:12and walk. So if you didn't do it today,
- 5:14get your butt moving. Get out there.
- 5:16Make activity happen. It doesn't matter.
- 5:19Make activity, Any kind of activity is better than no
- 5:22activity, my friends. So get going and I will see you
- 5:26tomorrow. I hope you have a blessed day.
- 5:28Bye.
