- 0:00Speaker: Welcome to the Growth Pro Edge.
- 0:02Speaker: We're here to help scale your
- 0:04Speaker: business, build stronger teams
- 0:06Speaker: and sharpen your leadership
- 0:08Speaker: skills.
- 0:11Speaker: I'm your host Denise Killian
- 0:12Speaker: with the Growth Pro Group and
- 0:14Speaker: entertainment.
- 0:15Speaker: And today we're going to be talking about hiring.
- 0:17Speaker: Why is it so challenging to find good candidates?
- 0:22Speaker: We're going to be speaking with Amber Lambert of Betson.
- 0:25Speaker: So let's get ready to sharpen your edge.
- 0:29Speaker: Amber Lambert, thank you so much
- 0:31Speaker: for being here on the Growth Pro
- 0:34Speaker: Edge.
- 0:34Speaker: Welcome.
- 0:35Speaker: Thank you.
- 0:35Speaker: Thanks for having me.
- 0:37Speaker: Uh, listen, before we get started talking about hiring,
- 0:41Speaker: uh, I want to give you an opportunity to take a couple
- 0:44Speaker: minutes to tell us about you and who you are.
- 0:48Speaker: Okay.
- 0:48Speaker: Yeah.
- 0:49Speaker: Um, so my name is Amber.
- 0:50Speaker: I currently work for Betson.
- 0:52Speaker: Um, but I got my start in this
- 0:53Speaker: industry, um, starting and
- 0:55Speaker: running my own family
- 0:56Speaker: entertainment center.
- 0:57Speaker: So I've done a number of, uh, hiring different, good and bad.
- 1:03Speaker: I used to also run a corporate
- 1:05Speaker: owned family entertainment
- 1:06Speaker: center.
- 1:07Speaker: Um, and I am an employee.
- 1:09Speaker: I've been hired.
- 1:10Speaker: I've gone through the process from both sides as we get
- 1:14Speaker: started, uh, knowing that there's no person on the planet
- 1:20Speaker: who has a one hundred percent perfect hiring record, right?
- 1:28Speaker: Absolutely.
- 1:29Speaker: Um, so we all have made mistakes, uh, maybe perhaps
- 1:37Speaker: brought somebody on who wasn't the right fit, uh, or something
- 1:40Speaker: came up that we weren't aware of, but hopefully we've all
- 1:44Speaker: learned from those hires and take that knowledge and lesson
- 1:48Speaker: and moving forward.
- 1:50Speaker: Um, but I want to begin with, we
- 1:53Speaker: all kind of hear regularly, you
- 1:58Speaker: just can't hire anybody right
- 1:59Speaker: now.
- 2:01Speaker: Nobody wants to work.
- 2:03Speaker: Well, they're just terrible and horrible.
- 2:07Speaker: I can't get anybody who's qualified.
- 2:10Speaker: Right.
- 2:10Speaker: But then simultaneously, you hear.
- 2:14Speaker: I've sent out four hundred and
- 2:15Speaker: fifty three resumes and have
- 2:17Speaker: haven't even gotten a single
- 2:18Speaker: call back.
- 2:19Speaker: Um, are both sides to blame here for this hiring frustration?
- 2:25Speaker: I think so.
- 2:26Speaker: I think there is a kind of a
- 2:28Speaker: generational gap going on right
- 2:30Speaker: now.
- 2:30Speaker: And I, I hear this, you know,
- 2:32Speaker: from different people, but then,
- 2:34Speaker: you know, I, I have a daughter
- 2:36Speaker: who is almost eighteen and, um,
- 2:38Speaker: you know, she went through the
- 2:40Speaker: same thing.
- 2:40Speaker: And, uh, I think that there's a lot of, um, people that are
- 2:45Speaker: really quick to judge this younger generation and, um,
- 2:48Speaker: having met her and her friends, they're, they're going to do
- 2:52Speaker: some amazing stuff.
- 2:53Speaker: And I'm really excited about some of the things that they're
- 2:56Speaker: bringing to the table.
- 2:57Speaker: So I think some of us older people need to have a little bit
- 3:00Speaker: more open mind.
- 3:02Speaker: Um, you know, we tend to, uh, I've got a good story.
- 3:06Speaker: When I had a fun center and I had these rules about how, you
- 3:10Speaker: know, your hair and your badge and, you know, all those same
- 3:13Speaker: rules that a lot of people have.
- 3:15Speaker: And one guy said, well, can I have a Mohawk?
- 3:17Speaker: And I was like, no, absolutely not.
- 3:20Speaker: He said, well, then why do we sell them at redemption?
- 3:23Speaker: And I was like, mm, okay.
- 3:26Speaker: So I kind of, he, he kind of talked me off of my, you know,
- 3:31Speaker: my vision of what it should be.
- 3:34Speaker: And I've got pictures with him and some kid that was a customer
- 3:37Speaker: with their matching Mohawks.
- 3:39Speaker: And he was just a, a fun, great employee.
- 3:41Speaker: And you know, why?
- 3:43Speaker: Why did I have it stuck in my head that that was not okay?
- 3:46Speaker: So I think sometimes we have to change our internal vision of
- 3:50Speaker: what it should be to open our minds up to, you know, some of
- 3:55Speaker: the things that they can bring to the table knowing that.
- 3:58Speaker: And we're going to we're going to hit both sides.
- 4:02Speaker: Excuse me.
- 4:02Speaker: We're going to have both sides of this issue.
- 4:05Speaker: We're going to talk about what companies can be doing better
- 4:09Speaker: and their internal processes, uh, to in the hiring process,
- 4:14Speaker: but also, uh, for those employees or people seeking and
- 4:19Speaker: hoping to become employees.
- 4:21Speaker: You know, what, what they can do a little differently because
- 4:24Speaker: it's shifted, you know, the, the used to be, uh, we're going to
- 4:29Speaker: date ourselves, but right.
- 4:31Speaker: I remember looking at, uh, you would have to call places or
- 4:35Speaker: look in the classifieds or something like that in, in terms
- 4:39Speaker: of seeking a job.
- 4:40Speaker: And it was all about who you knew, oh, they're hiring here,
- 4:43Speaker: or I know this person.
- 4:45Speaker: That would be a good fit.
- 4:47Speaker: That was so much of how the process worked.
- 4:50Speaker: And now it's all online.
- 4:53Speaker: You can do it from your house, from your phone, uh, finding out
- 4:58Speaker: where openings are and all of that sort of thing.
- 5:00Speaker: Um, Uh, but the process, I think
- 5:05Speaker: one of the big challenges is the
- 5:08Speaker: AI aspect of hiring of we put
- 5:14Speaker: out an ad, here's the job
- 5:16Speaker: description.
- 5:17Speaker: Here are the key words.
- 5:19Speaker: Five hundred people can apply, but then nobody's going to see
- 5:22Speaker: those applications because we've put AI in charge of determining
- 5:26Speaker: who's worthy of looking at.
- 5:29Speaker: Yeah, I mean, I think that's I think that's a huge mistake
- 5:32Speaker: because it's just a, you know, because they're also using AI to
- 5:36Speaker: do their resumes, right?
- 5:38Speaker: So you're not really seeing who that person is.
- 5:41Speaker: It's an AI seeing who an AI wants you to see.
- 5:44Speaker: So it's not really, you know, um, that's where I think when
- 5:47Speaker: you get into the like audition kind of interviews, um, I
- 5:52Speaker: always, you know, thought with, with our industry, you know,
- 5:55Speaker: well, even a lot of industries, you know, other than, you know,
- 5:59Speaker: a doctor or a lawyer or something, you know, you want to
- 6:03Speaker: hire for personality and train for the skill.
- 6:05Speaker: Right.
- 6:06Speaker: There's, you know, I can teach somebody how to do an Excel
- 6:09Speaker: spreadsheet, but if you don't have the right personality, the
- 6:13Speaker: person and, you know, I don't know if I'm the best person to
- 6:16Speaker: talk to about this because, you know, I did the auditions and I
- 6:20Speaker: quickly discovered that it was always my second choice.
- 6:23Speaker: That was the best employee.
- 6:25Speaker: So whoever my first choice was never worked out.
- 6:29Speaker: I don't know why.
- 6:30Speaker: Um, but never worked out.
- 6:32Speaker: Always my second choice.
- 6:34Speaker: Every audition.
- 6:35Speaker: That is hilarious and interesting.
- 6:40Speaker: Yeah, I don't, I don't know if
- 6:41Speaker: it were they were oh, you know,
- 6:43Speaker: to qualified.
- 6:45Speaker: I guess you could have the
- 6:46Speaker: overqualified or, uh, I don't
- 6:49Speaker: know.
- 6:50Speaker: And I wasn't the only one
- 6:51Speaker: choosing it was like I got my
- 6:52Speaker: whole staff involved in the
- 6:54Speaker: process.
- 6:54Speaker: So yeah, it was just, uh, always my second choice.
- 6:58Speaker: So that's, that's interesting.
- 7:00Speaker: That's quite interesting.
- 7:02Speaker: Yeah.
- 7:03Speaker: I think that frustration for on both ends of employers saying
- 7:08Speaker: that they don't have enough qualified candidates and
- 7:11Speaker: employees, potential job seekers saying, I can never get anybody
- 7:16Speaker: to call me back.
- 7:17Speaker: I think the the solution is you do have them.
- 7:22Speaker: You're just looking at them the wrong way.
- 7:24Speaker: Mhm.
- 7:25Speaker: Either they're not getting
- 7:26Speaker: through your AI portal because
- 7:29Speaker: they didn't have the right
- 7:30Speaker: keywords.
- 7:31Speaker: Uh, so that they're just sitting
- 7:33Speaker: in this empty space or, um, or
- 7:37Speaker: you're looking at what you
- 7:40Speaker: actually need in the wrong way,
- 7:43Speaker: right?
- 7:44Speaker: Or, or you don't have the confidence that you can train
- 7:48Speaker: that person or mold that person.
- 7:50Speaker: So, so that might be something that you're lacking, right?
- 7:53Speaker: Because, you know, if you could find somebody with the right,
- 7:57Speaker: right personality, you should be able to train them on the rest
- 8:00Speaker: of the skills.
- 8:00Speaker: So, um, and even I even had employees that probably didn't
- 8:05Speaker: have the right personality and we, you know, brought them along
- 8:09Speaker: and, and kind of molded them into finding that motivation.
- 8:14Speaker: Mhm.
- 8:15Speaker: Absolutely.
- 8:17Speaker: Now, one of the things that is a
- 8:20Speaker: sticking point for many people
- 8:22Speaker: is pay where, as you know, cost
- 8:26Speaker: of living.
- 8:27Speaker: My heavens, we all know it's real.
- 8:29Speaker: Uh, things are, are it's a
- 8:32Speaker: struggle bus right now for a lot
- 8:34Speaker: of people in this economy, from
- 8:37Speaker: the cost of rent to groceries to
- 8:40Speaker: even the gas that we're putting
- 8:41Speaker: in our cars to get to said job,
- 8:44Speaker: uh, that, that everything is
- 8:46Speaker: going up, but wages are not
- 8:49Speaker: going up, uh, commensurately to
- 8:51Speaker: match that.
- 8:52Speaker: Uh, of course, part of that too
- 8:54Speaker: is that people are spending less
- 8:56Speaker: when they do go places, which,
- 8:58Speaker: you know, it all is this
- 8:59Speaker: snowball that kind of, uh,
- 9:02Speaker: continues to avalanche down the
- 9:04Speaker: hill.
- 9:05Speaker: It feels like right now, but, uh, pay is a, is a part of it.
- 9:11Speaker: How do you balance that as a business owner?
- 9:16Speaker: You have a bottom line.
- 9:17Speaker: You have things that, you know, this is where you can afford to
- 9:20Speaker: be and you're not going to be able to employ anybody if you
- 9:22Speaker: don't have a business anymore.
- 9:24Speaker: So there's that factor.
- 9:26Speaker: There is that line, but also the understanding of what job
- 9:32Speaker: seekers need, not just what they want, what they actually need.
- 9:38Speaker: How do you balance those two?
- 9:40Speaker: Well, I mean, I think I think on
- 9:42Speaker: your, you know, the people that
- 9:44Speaker: have been with you, the
- 9:45Speaker: supervisory team, your
- 9:46Speaker: management team, I mean, you
- 9:47Speaker: have to you have to pay a living
- 9:49Speaker: wage.
- 9:49Speaker: But there's depends on your
- 9:51Speaker: market that you're in too,
- 9:52Speaker: because there's certain markets
- 9:53Speaker: that, you know, the minimum wage
- 9:55Speaker: is seventeen, twenty dollars an
- 9:57Speaker: hour.
- 9:57Speaker: Um, in, you know, the location I
- 10:00Speaker: managed in In California, I
- 10:02Speaker: didn't have a single employee
- 10:03Speaker: that didn't have two or three
- 10:04Speaker: jobs.
- 10:05Speaker: So you had to be flexible with
- 10:06Speaker: scheduling to have good
- 10:08Speaker: employees.
- 10:08Speaker: You couldn't just say, hey, we we take priority.
- 10:11Speaker: You had to work with them, you know, so, um, because they have
- 10:14Speaker: to make a living.
- 10:15Speaker: So I think, um, you know, but sometimes you get what you pay
- 10:20Speaker: for too, you know, that that's like it with anything.
- 10:23Speaker: You know, you buy the cheapest car, it might break down.
- 10:26Speaker: So, um, you know, sometimes you gotta find other ways to cut and
- 10:31Speaker: that your, your employees should probably not be the first, first
- 10:34Speaker: place you're looking.
- 10:36Speaker: Absolutely.
- 10:37Speaker: And certainly, you know, the livable wage, they've got to be
- 10:40Speaker: able to make a living, right?
- 10:41Speaker: That's, that is number one.
- 10:44Speaker: And, and really analyze your community.
- 10:50Speaker: The cost of, you know, over,
- 10:53Speaker: over a couple of years that
- 10:56Speaker: renting that one bedroom
- 10:57Speaker: apartment could have doubled in
- 11:00Speaker: two years.
- 11:01Speaker: And, you know, you're probably not going to be able to double
- 11:05Speaker: someone's salary or pay in that same two years.
- 11:10Speaker: But if you're not aware of that and what your employees are
- 11:14Speaker: facing and potential job seekers are facing, then, you know,
- 11:18Speaker: because you've you've owned your house for thirty years and, and
- 11:21Speaker: you've not looked for an apartment and forty years.
- 11:25Speaker: So, you know, but, but being
- 11:27Speaker: aware of what challenges are
- 11:29Speaker: facing your employees and job
- 11:33Speaker: seekers, I think is a real
- 11:35Speaker: mistake.
- 11:36Speaker: I think if you're, you know,
- 11:38Speaker: let's say your income or your
- 11:40Speaker: bottom line revenue goes up by,
- 11:43Speaker: you know, twenty percent in a
- 11:45Speaker: year, shouldn't some of that be
- 11:47Speaker: contributed to your employees
- 11:49Speaker: who are helping make that
- 11:50Speaker: happen?
- 11:50Speaker: So, um, you know, if, if your
- 11:54Speaker: business is increasing, then,
- 11:56Speaker: then you should be looking at
- 11:57Speaker: that every year that you're, you
- 11:59Speaker: know, it shouldn't be exactly
- 12:00Speaker: the same amount, but it should
- 12:01Speaker: be something.
- 12:03Speaker: So when we talk about pay, that's one factor when people
- 12:09Speaker: decide to take a job.
- 12:10Speaker: So from the job seeker's perspective, pay is going to be
- 12:14Speaker: one of the issues, right?
- 12:16Speaker: To me, it's the first thing I'm going to look at in terms of, is
- 12:21Speaker: this a yes or no, right?
- 12:22Speaker: Because I know what my bottom line is.
- 12:24Speaker: And if it's well beneath that bottom line, I can't do it.
- 12:28Speaker: You know, uh, but, uh, if it meets that, okay, what are the
- 12:33Speaker: other factors that contribute to someone taking a job where maybe
- 12:40Speaker: the pay, it's like, okay, I can make that work, but gosh, I'd
- 12:44Speaker: like more is pay.
- 12:45Speaker: The only reason that that people will come work at a place.
- 12:49Speaker: No, not at all.
- 12:49Speaker: I, you know, I had some military
- 12:52Speaker: retirees that used to work for
- 12:53Speaker: me and pay wasn't important at
- 12:54Speaker: all.
- 12:54Speaker: Like they obviously want to make
- 12:56Speaker: money, but it wasn't the top
- 12:58Speaker: priority.
- 12:58Speaker: You know, flexibility was the priority for some people or um
- 13:02Speaker: job happiness, you know.
- 13:04Speaker: So, um, you know, some people that you could offer them double
- 13:08Speaker: the pay and they're still going to turn it down if they're going
- 13:10Speaker: to be unhappy doing that.
- 13:11Speaker: So, um, I think there's a lot more.
- 13:14Speaker: And again, it's individualized.
- 13:16Speaker: It's not, not everybody is motivated by the same thing.
- 13:20Speaker: So not, you know, you got some kid that's still living at home
- 13:24Speaker: that may not.
- 13:25Speaker: He just needs some fun money to go to some concerts.
- 13:28Speaker: You know, he's not necessarily looking for his career.
- 13:31Speaker: He's just looking, you know, for
- 13:33Speaker: a stepping stone or some
- 13:35Speaker: experience.
- 13:36Speaker: Uh, and speaking of that
- 13:37Speaker: experience, I think there is a
- 13:41Speaker: real interesting conversation
- 13:44Speaker: that's happening where and I'm
- 13:48Speaker: just going to go ahead and say
- 13:49Speaker: it.
- 13:49Speaker: I'm someone who believes that not everyone needs a bachelor's
- 13:55Speaker: or a master's or a PhD. Uh, that there are some professions or
- 14:03Speaker: some jobs in which experience or aptitude plays a more essential
- 14:11Speaker: role than how many degrees you have on your resume.
- 14:15Speaker: Now, obviously there's some exceptions, right?
- 14:18Speaker: I want my doctor to have a lot
- 14:20Speaker: of those degrees on their
- 14:21Speaker: resume, right?
- 14:22Speaker: I want the people building the bridge to have a lot of stories
- 14:25Speaker: on their resume.
- 14:27Speaker: But, you know, a lot of jobs that say you have to have a
- 14:33Speaker: bachelor's or you have to have this really, really, uh, are we
- 14:40Speaker: looking at the wrong things?
- 14:41Speaker: Are we looking at credentials in terms of businesses who say, I
- 14:46Speaker: can't find anybody?
- 14:48Speaker: Are you looking at the wrong things?
- 14:51Speaker: I think so.
- 14:52Speaker: I think, uh, you know, I, I
- 14:53Speaker: don't have a degree and I'm
- 14:55Speaker: pretty experienced in what I'm
- 14:56Speaker: doing.
- 14:57Speaker: So I think if, you know, if I was on the job market and, and
- 15:01Speaker: somebody passed on me because I didn't have a degree.
- 15:03Speaker: I think they would be the ones that would be losing out.
- 15:06Speaker: And I think we we far too often, you know, are quick to judge
- 15:10Speaker: what's on paper instead of, you know, somebody's, you know, work
- 15:14Speaker: ethic and, and things that are a little harder to measure.
- 15:18Speaker: It's not something you can put down.
- 15:19Speaker: I can't put down on paper that I'm going to give you eighty
- 15:23Speaker: hours a week, and you know that I'm going to be tied to my job
- 15:27Speaker: because I love it so much.
- 15:28Speaker: You know, um, I mean, I can, but you're probably not going to
- 15:31Speaker: believe me, but, you know, and until you get to know me, then
- 15:34Speaker: you'll be like, okay, this is somebody that has, you know,
- 15:37Speaker: ethics and that, you know, I want working for me.
- 15:40Speaker: So I think, um, some of that, that's why, you know, in the
- 15:44Speaker: family entertainment industry, having the, you know, multiple
- 15:49Speaker: kind of group interviews and having the audition style, I
- 15:51Speaker: think it, it gives you that time to at least get a little glimpse
- 15:55Speaker: into who they are, how they interact with people.
- 15:58Speaker: Um, you know, something that
- 16:01Speaker: nothing on paper is going to
- 16:02Speaker: tell you.
- 16:03Speaker: And and I think, you know, you
- 16:05Speaker: said it so beautifully earlier
- 16:08Speaker: hiring for personality, not
- 16:10Speaker: necessarily skills.
- 16:12Speaker: If you have the right personality, if you have the
- 16:14Speaker: right motivation, if you have the right aptitude, if you have
- 16:18Speaker: the potential, I can teach you how to do this thing.
- 16:23Speaker: Uh, depending upon what it is,
- 16:24Speaker: there are some things you cannot
- 16:25Speaker: teach, right?
- 16:27Speaker: I cannot teach someone to be a seven foot linebacker.
- 16:31Speaker: Right?
- 16:32Speaker: But I can teach you the skills to make you pretty good on the,
- 16:37Speaker: you know, on the line.
- 16:39Speaker: But, um, for the most part, if
- 16:42Speaker: you've got the right attitude
- 16:44Speaker: and you've got the right
- 16:45Speaker: training program.
- 16:48Speaker: Mhm.
- 16:50Speaker: If they have a degree or not, or whatever they say on paper might
- 16:55Speaker: not match their actual ability to do the job.
- 16:59Speaker: And some, some of my best
- 17:00Speaker: employees were fifteen or
- 17:01Speaker: sixteen and their first job,
- 17:03Speaker: right?
- 17:03Speaker: They were the most motivated.
- 17:04Speaker: They're the most you know, they didn't have bad habits yet.
- 17:08Speaker: So it was like, I, I, I loved the younger employees.
- 17:12Speaker: You know, they didn't come to me
- 17:13Speaker: with these bad habits, but, um,
- 17:15Speaker: you know, a lot of times there's
- 17:17Speaker: so many puzzle pieces that go
- 17:19Speaker: into, you know, what makes a
- 17:21Speaker: good employee.
- 17:21Speaker: And, you know, a lot of times when they were coming in for
- 17:25Speaker: their first round of interviews, um, the ones that came in with
- 17:28Speaker: parents, I'd be watching their parents as much as I'd be
- 17:31Speaker: watching them, you know, how did their parents react?
- 17:34Speaker: And, um, that's, that's another
- 17:36Speaker: aspect is, you know, now in this
- 17:39Speaker: day and age, there are, you
- 17:41Speaker: know, I've got a kid in college
- 17:42Speaker: that has friends whose parents
- 17:44Speaker: still pick out their outfits for
- 17:45Speaker: them.
- 17:46Speaker: We have a lot of helicopter parents.
- 17:48Speaker: And so, um, finding an employee
- 17:50Speaker: that you're not going to get
- 17:52Speaker: called from mom is, uh, is also
- 17:54Speaker: important, right?
- 17:55Speaker: That's another factor.
- 17:58Speaker: I have had parents of twenty somethings, late twenties, close
- 18:04Speaker: to thirty years old.
- 18:06Speaker: Parents call me about something.
- 18:12Speaker: So yeah, we were like latchkey kids.
- 18:14Speaker: Yet our generation is the most helicopter parents out there.
- 18:18Speaker: It's I think we call that overadjustment friend.
- 18:22Speaker: Right.
- 18:24Speaker: But I was a latchkey kid right from fourth grade, which of
- 18:28Speaker: course, now I bless my parents.
- 18:30Speaker: They would be hauled into to jail or have have us taken away.
- 18:35Speaker: But fourth grade, man, you got to go home.
- 18:38Speaker: You got to walk home from school by yourself.
- 18:41Speaker: And, uh, you know, there was
- 18:42Speaker: like an hour, hour and a half
- 18:44Speaker: before Mom and Dad got home from
- 18:46Speaker: work that you were on your own,
- 18:47Speaker: and it was the most glorious
- 18:49Speaker: ninety minutes.
- 18:50Speaker: Look how great we are.
- 18:52Speaker: And look how fabulous we are.
- 18:53Speaker: That's right.
- 18:54Speaker: Uh, but I think it's that overadjustment that happens of,
- 19:00Speaker: you know, uh, folks our age, people our age have forgotten
- 19:04Speaker: that that's how we came up and we were okay.
- 19:07Speaker: And in fact, learned a lot of
- 19:08Speaker: valuable things by making
- 19:11Speaker: mistakes.
- 19:12Speaker: And but parents were trying to protect our kids from, you know,
- 19:18Speaker: pain or whatever.
- 19:19Speaker: And sometimes they, they have to go through that.
- 19:21Speaker: They have to get yelled at by their boss and you have to let
- 19:24Speaker: them do that.
- 19:25Speaker: But, you know, I think, you
- 19:27Speaker: know, knowing who the parents
- 19:30Speaker: are or knowing who the spouse
- 19:31Speaker: is, you know, there are some
- 19:33Speaker: companies that they'll interview
- 19:35Speaker: you with your spouse at dinner
- 19:36Speaker: to, you know, before they'll
- 19:37Speaker: hire you.
- 19:38Speaker: Because if you get somebody with
- 19:40Speaker: a crazy spouse, it's just as
- 19:41Speaker: bad.
- 19:43Speaker: Mhm.
- 19:43Speaker: Yeah.
- 19:44Speaker: And, and that cultural fit, that alignment of, is this going to
- 19:49Speaker: help encourage the positive culture that you're building?
- 19:54Speaker: Or is this someone who is going
- 19:56Speaker: to maybe not align with that in
- 19:58Speaker: some way?
- 20:00Speaker: I think we have to be less pre Pre-judgement.
- 20:04Speaker: I mean, I know they say that the interview starts as soon as they
- 20:07Speaker: walk in, right?
- 20:08Speaker: So that's when you're starting to to look at things.
- 20:11Speaker: But you know, you're, you're
- 20:14Speaker: judging that they, you know,
- 20:15Speaker: showed up in their sweatpants,
- 20:17Speaker: you know, that that's how they
- 20:18Speaker: dress, right?
- 20:19Speaker: That doesn't mean that's how they're going to dress at work.
- 20:21Speaker: So don't, don't be so quick to, to judge the, the mohawk.
- 20:25Speaker: Right.
- 20:26Speaker: Or the, you know, the earrings or whatever different thing,
- 20:31Speaker: what we would have chosen.
- 20:33Speaker: Um, but that might be your very best party host.
- 20:37Speaker: It might be the funnest kid that you have working for you.
- 20:40Speaker: So, um, just get to know them
- 20:43Speaker: before you prejudge based on
- 20:45Speaker: look.
- 20:45Speaker: All right, so best parting tip for hiring managers before we
- 20:53Speaker: end, because as we're running out of time, what would, what
- 20:56Speaker: would your parting wisdom be for those folks who are like,
- 21:01Speaker: there's nobody out there.
- 21:03Speaker: We can't hire anybody.
- 21:05Speaker: Oh my goodness.
- 21:06Speaker: Right.
- 21:06Speaker: What is what is your parting wisdom to implant with them?
- 21:11Speaker: I would say I just said it with the don't be so quick to judge a
- 21:14Speaker: book by its cover.
- 21:15Speaker: Get to know them.
- 21:16Speaker: They're out there.
- 21:17Speaker: And when you get to know them,
- 21:19Speaker: they're they're actually really
- 21:20Speaker: amazing kids that are coming up
- 21:22Speaker: right now.
