- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome back to Inside the Data on Inside the Birds.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Mosher and of course we got our data
- 0:14Speaker 1: analyst and expert Sam Finkel, and Sam I probably should
- 0:19Speaker 1: have taken given you a break this week and not
- 0:23Speaker 1: made you have to go deep dive into one of
- 0:27Speaker 1: the craziest blowouts you ever see, a game in which
- 0:31Speaker 1: the Raiders managed just seventy five yards that in itself
- 0:34Speaker 1: might be worthy of an Inside the Data just how
- 0:37Speaker 1: a team can only get seventy five yards of offense,
- 0:41Speaker 1: but obviously a little bit of a wake up for
- 0:43Speaker 1: the Eagles offense, a dominant performance by the Eagles defense,
- 0:47Speaker 1: and the Raiders are now two and twelve. So what
- 0:51Speaker 1: did you seek? Is there anything that you sought to
- 0:55Speaker 1: find when you were doing this edition of Inside the Data.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there were a couple of things. First off,
- 1:01Speaker 2: I just wanted to look at this game kind of
- 1:03Speaker 2: as a get right game for the Eagles, that they
- 1:05Speaker 2: needed it, they took advantage of it, and it feels
- 1:10Speaker 2: pretty good the outcome. So I just wanted to see
- 1:13Speaker 2: what the statistics kind of said about it. So looked
- 1:18Speaker 2: back into that formation statistics we did cool looked into
- 1:23Speaker 2: some of the other stuff and then looked at some
- 1:27Speaker 2: individual statistics. This one is definitely interesting. You know, you
- 1:34Speaker 2: don't want to overreact based on one game, but you
- 1:37Speaker 2: hope that they can carry this momentum for the rest
- 1:40Speaker 2: of the season and to the playoffs.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and this show is sort of like the Eagles offense,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I think, in that you've introduced a few new concepts
- 1:49Speaker 1: each week to give readers or viewers and listen to
- 1:52Speaker 1: something different, and then you're keeping it. You're expanding on it.
- 1:55Speaker 1: So like the win percentage at a certain juncture in
- 1:59Speaker 1: a game, go through that because it was never very
- 2:01Speaker 1: high for the Raiders, as you can imagine. Formation concepts
- 2:04Speaker 1: that you brought in in the last show will continue
- 2:07Speaker 1: to look at that as well. But let's start off
- 2:10Speaker 1: like we always do. And this is gonna be fun,
- 2:13Speaker 1: right the basic in advanced data, if you're just looking
- 2:17Speaker 1: for some really cool things on the Eagles, is gonna
- 2:20Speaker 1: be quite fun because they dominated this game in a
- 2:23Speaker 1: way that you're gonna see a lot more green than
- 2:27Speaker 1: red or even white. Here. I tell you what, Sam,
- 2:30Speaker 1: There's one thing I always say, there's one thing that
- 2:33Speaker 1: jumps out to me. There is something in this that
- 2:36Speaker 1: jumps out to me as a positive where I don't
- 2:38Speaker 1: really care who the opponent was. Can you guess what
- 2:42Speaker 1: I'm thinking?
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean if I had, I mean, is it
- 2:49Speaker 2: the time of possession?
- 2:51Speaker 1: No, there was something that I think the Eagles have
- 2:53Speaker 1: been doing poorly at that they did much better that
- 2:57Speaker 1: may go under the radar. In fact, Well, I can
- 2:59Speaker 1: give you a but the clue would deadbeat given away.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So I was giving I'll give you one more guess again.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Does the opponent in this case doesn't really matter to me.
- 3:09Speaker 1: It's more about what the team itself does.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Sure, I mean yards per pass would make sense. I
- 3:14Speaker 2: mean they're at ten point seven, which is much higher
- 3:16Speaker 2: than normal.
- 3:17Speaker 1: But I don'ts that's opponent to me, that's opponent specific.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But the penalties that have been killing the EU. They
- 3:23Speaker 1: have been in the seven to eight for sixty seventy yards. Now,
- 3:26Speaker 1: some of that is opponents specific, but I thought, just
- 3:29Speaker 1: we talked about this, the false starts, the mental you know,
- 3:32Speaker 1: the issues, the alignment issues, but only three penalties for
- 3:37Speaker 1: thirty five yards, I thought was a good step for
- 3:39Speaker 1: this team.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Well, and you know, it really translated because we're going
- 3:43Speaker 2: to talk about these third down statistics, and I think
- 3:46Speaker 2: it really impacted them specifically, because I mean, listen, penalties
- 3:50Speaker 2: do put teams off drives. It really does affect them.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So I think that there is definitely a correlation between
- 3:59Speaker 2: that penalty statistic you just talked about and the third
- 4:02Speaker 2: down statistics, which, by the way, I'm excited to talk
- 4:04Speaker 2: about the third down statistics today.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yes, I was gonna ask you if this was an
- 4:08Speaker 1: episode where we just don't brush over into seconds though
- 4:13Speaker 1: their improvement was staggering, Yeah, for sure. So, yeah, that
- 4:17Speaker 1: was good. Obviously, no turnovers, huge because that had been
- 4:20Speaker 1: an issue during their three game losing streak coming off
- 4:22Speaker 1: the five turnover game against the Chargers. And yeah, I
- 4:25Speaker 1: do think yards for past, even though it's the Raiders,
- 4:28Speaker 1: it's not necessarily the number that's so high, which it
- 4:30Speaker 1: is at almost eleven. But look at the difference between
- 4:34Speaker 1: the two teams.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that is a staggering difference. I don't think you're
- 4:38Speaker 2: gonna find a more higher delta among really any other
- 4:42Speaker 2: teams this year.
- 4:45Speaker 1: One yard for past, God, that is embarrassing. Alright, third
- 4:49Speaker 1: down stats, So already you're excited about third down for
- 4:52Speaker 1: the first time in about maybe the twelve weeks.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Right, Oh, it's green.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I put it there.
- 4:58Speaker 2: It's put Yeah, it was ridiculously impressive. We haven't seen
- 5:03Speaker 2: that in a long time for the Eagles, so it's
- 5:06Speaker 2: worth discussing for a little bit. I mean they were
- 5:09Speaker 2: ten for thirteen around seventy seven percent. Uh, and then
- 5:14Speaker 2: the Raiders are what the Eagles look like. They're three
- 5:16Speaker 2: for twelve twenty five percent. I mean it really impressive.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, another wide delta on that one of you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: more than fifty percent points. I think when I look
- 5:28Speaker 1: at it, though, Sam and see that they're for the season,
- 5:30Speaker 1: they're thirty four percent and against the Raiders they're seventy
- 5:34Speaker 1: seven percent, it's such a wide variety that it does
- 5:37Speaker 1: have the outlier fuel to it. I mean, I think
- 5:39Speaker 1: we'll get a better idea of this offense as far
- 5:43Speaker 1: as is it more efficient on third down? Is a
- 5:46Speaker 1: better situationally in the next week and two weeks really
- 5:49Speaker 1: with the Bills in there.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Too, well, listen, I mean, like you said, the penalties, right,
- 5:53Speaker 2: I mean that those are drive killers when you don't
- 5:55Speaker 2: have those mental mistakes. We don't have penalties, you know,
- 5:59Speaker 2: you don't have false starts or you know, holding it.
- 6:02Speaker 2: It really allows the offense to do its thing, and
- 6:07Speaker 2: I do think some of the play calling was a
- 6:09Speaker 2: little bit better. I think some of the sequencing was better.
- 6:11Speaker 2: But I think that not having as many penalties I
- 6:14Speaker 2: think really impacted the ability of the offense to convert
- 6:18Speaker 2: one hundred percent.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Absolutely, it didn't change a whole lot. One game is
- 6:23Speaker 1: never going to right change a whole lot for the
- 6:25Speaker 1: seasonal third down statistics. But I do believe most of
- 6:30Speaker 1: these third downs against the Raiders were of the third
- 6:33Speaker 1: and short, were third and mid variety, not nearly as
- 6:36Speaker 1: many third and longs as we still see as is
- 6:39Speaker 1: where the Eagles kind of live this year. With ninety
- 6:42Speaker 1: four third and long attempts compared to I still think
- 6:45Speaker 1: that's more than the total of short and mid combine. Right, Yeah, So.
- 6:52Speaker 2: To do ten of the thirteen were third and short
- 6:56Speaker 2: and third and mid.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Imagine that that's quite a bit. So that's a lot,
- 7:01Speaker 1: right of the thirteen. And yet they're still in third
- 7:04Speaker 1: and long more than short and mid combined this year,
- 7:07Speaker 1: so they've got some work to do in that area.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah. And for the ones that were third and long,
- 7:13Speaker 2: the Eagles three, they were three for three on third
- 7:16Speaker 2: and Long's right, and the Raiders had six third and
- 7:20Speaker 2: longs and went zero for six long.
- 7:23Speaker 1: This game has delta written all over it.
- 7:26Speaker 2: My friend, it really is an anomaly. But it's fun
- 7:30Speaker 2: and it's good and hopefully that trend can continue.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, for those who are listening, they
- 7:35Speaker 1: can't see the pie charts that we're showing now. I mean,
- 7:38Speaker 1: they're not going to change dramatically from one game. But again,
- 7:42Speaker 1: it's a step in the right direction.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah. I agree.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Eagles opponents being in third and long at forty four percent,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I wonder if that's getting closer after the Raiders game
- 7:51Speaker 1: to last year where it was forty seven. I think
- 7:54Speaker 1: forty four is a little bit of a jump up
- 7:56Speaker 1: from what it was the week before. It is certainly
- 7:58Speaker 1: a jump up for sure. Yeah, that'll do it. When
- 8:00Speaker 1: you're Poland has six or seven of those. So oh man,
- 8:05Speaker 1: every gen Zer listening to this show just went six
- 8:08Speaker 1: to seven.
- 8:10Speaker 2: You had to throw that in there.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I did. I have two daughters, all right, I like this.
- 8:18Speaker 1: You introduced this concept last show, I believe for the
- 8:21Speaker 1: first time, and that is the peak win percentage, just
- 8:25Speaker 1: sort of a chart for those who are only listening
- 8:28Speaker 1: that shows each team's percentage of winning at various junctures
- 8:34Speaker 1: throughout the game, all throughout the game, and the Raiders
- 8:38Speaker 1: just never went.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Over what is it thirteen percent?
- 8:43Speaker 1: Never over thirty? Does that include when they got the bus, Sam.
- 8:48Speaker 2: It's probably doesn't because you know, it's probably closer to
- 8:51Speaker 2: fifty fifty. It's probably never like exactly fifty fifty, but
- 8:54Speaker 2: it's probably closer. But yeah, according to this data, they
- 8:58Speaker 2: never exceeded thirteen percent throughout the game.
- 9:01Speaker 1: No, you have a nice fun fact. And this was
- 9:03Speaker 1: you know how I have talked about how the Eagles
- 9:06Speaker 1: have played so many of those what we call writers
- 9:09Speaker 1: call them control alt delete games where you have your
- 9:11Speaker 1: story written and then the last five minutes everything changes.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I mean, they still might win, but not the way
- 9:17Speaker 1: they were. You know, you're up at twenty one, or
- 9:19Speaker 1: you're and you win twenty eight twenty one, or then
- 9:21Speaker 1: you're down and then you come back to win. That
- 9:23Speaker 1: Egles kind of games this year, This one was pretty straightforward.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And what's your fun fact?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it was the second shortest game in
- 9:31Speaker 2: NFL history at two hours and minutes.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I knew it was short, but I didn't even think
- 9:36Speaker 1: to research where it was in historical perspective like that
- 9:40Speaker 1: the second shortest game? Does that include? Is that Super
- 9:44Speaker 1: Bowl era or is this like in the history the
- 9:48Speaker 1: long history of the NFL AFL all that.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I believe it is just Super Bowl history.
- 9:54Speaker 1: That's still amazing. By the way, I said, I think
- 9:55Speaker 1: nineteen seventy, right, so we're talking like fifty six years.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and it could have been shorter. There were like
- 10:03Speaker 2: a couple of TV timeouts that yeah, impact do you.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Happen to have the shortest game? Since you did? You
- 10:10Speaker 1: got this as the second shortest.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Let's see the shortest game in NFL history.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm guessing it has to be something like prior to
- 10:19Speaker 1: the advent of every of Monday night football, Thursday night football,
- 10:22Speaker 1: Sunday night, you know. TV sports.
- 10:24Speaker 2: They called this one the shortest. But the one that
- 10:27Speaker 2: I see is two hours, twenty nine minutes, which was
- 10:31Speaker 2: nineteen ninety six San Diego Chargers versus Indianapolis Colts twenty six.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Nineteen nineteen ninety six. What year did the Chargers go
- 10:40Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl? Do you remember they went to
- 10:44Speaker 1: the Super Bowl with the Humphreys as their quarter You
- 10:46Speaker 1: might not even born I was. I think they played
- 10:51Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers in the Super Bowl. It was
- 10:56Speaker 1: kind of a year that nobody thought the Chargers.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Were going to be Charge were in the Super Bowl
- 11:00Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety five.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Oh, I was close, Sam, I was very yeah for sure, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 1: They had a running back named Natron Means and he
- 11:09Speaker 1: was this big, strong and Chris Berman at Sports Center
- 11:13Speaker 1: would go, Natron Means business because he was just like
- 11:16Speaker 1: people would fall off of him. He was a power
- 11:18Speaker 1: running back. And I think that I think that Sayo
- 11:20Speaker 1: was in ISRAELI yours with that with that defense. So oh,
- 11:23Speaker 1: Rodney Harrison I think was on that team. So good team.
- 11:28Speaker 2: The CBS Sports article also size the shortest game of
- 11:30Speaker 2: the Century still correct, Still correct.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Okay, they're good century millennium same right, yeah, yeah, but
- 11:38Speaker 1: I do remember the Chargers got they got their ass
- 11:40Speaker 1: kicked by the forty nine Ers and the super I
- 11:42Speaker 1: think that was the Joe Montana forty nine Ers, So yeah, sure,
- 11:46Speaker 1: so fun fact. But yeah, they could run the ball
- 11:47Speaker 1: and play defense, so that would make sense why that
- 11:50Speaker 1: came against the Colts, the Colts who might have been
- 11:53Speaker 1: I don't want to get too far as the Weeds
- 11:54Speaker 1: of this game might have been the year they were
- 11:56Speaker 1: quarterbacked by Jim Harbaugh. How about that.
- 12:00Speaker 2: That's a fun fact right there.
- 12:01Speaker 1: All right now, I am gonna look it up. I
- 12:03Speaker 1: think NIX six ninety six Colts. All right, let's go
- 12:11Speaker 1: check it out. Who was the quarterback? Oh, Marshall Fulk
- 12:13Speaker 1: was on that team before he got traded sid A
- 12:15Speaker 1: Rams how about that?
- 12:16Speaker 2: Wow?
- 12:17Speaker 1: Remember Marshall fall So two really good running backs there.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Yep.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh was the case started fourteen games a year,
- 12:22Speaker 1: seven and seven.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Good pull.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Thanks, thanks. That just means I'm getting old. All right.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Let's take a look at the Eagles offense advanced data.
- 12:32Speaker 1: All right.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You know what's gonna jump out to me right well,
- 12:36Speaker 2: you know it jumped out to me because I bolded it.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Yes, all right, So so two things really jumped out,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and both of them have different colors than green. So
- 12:44Speaker 1: let's go to yours first. Why did you bowld the
- 12:46Speaker 1: net time before pressure?
- 12:48Speaker 2: It is the first time I've seen it positive and
- 12:50Speaker 2: this positive like this positive, which just means that Hurts
- 12:54Speaker 2: got the ball out before he was pressured.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Right now, for the season, for those you can't see,
- 13:00Speaker 1: they were at a minus point two two, which I'll
- 13:03Speaker 1: explain that average.
- 13:06Speaker 2: It just means that herts was consistently holding the ball,
- 13:10Speaker 2: holding onto the ball longer than like he was getting
- 13:13Speaker 2: pressured as he was throwing. What this means is the
- 13:15Speaker 2: ball was getting out before the pressure was getting there
- 13:17Speaker 2: on average.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yes, and it's quite a flip to go from minus
- 13:21Speaker 1: point two to a plus point three. You know, that's
- 13:25Speaker 1: a pretty significant difference.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think it explains some of the efficiency
- 13:30Speaker 2: or just the bad of the you know Raiders. Yes,
- 13:36Speaker 2: it could be both, probably.
- 13:38Speaker 1: So I was a little surprised. I've said all week
- 13:43Speaker 1: that to me, it was a little bothersome that they
- 13:46Speaker 1: could do everything as well as they did except really
- 13:49Speaker 1: rediscover a dominant run game. They ran for one to
- 13:52Speaker 1: eighty six, which is their second most of the year,
- 13:55Speaker 1: but their average per carry was under four some of that,
- 13:58Speaker 1: you know, they had a towush push dance short yard.
- 14:00Speaker 1: So let's even say it was four point one, that
- 14:03Speaker 1: would be sort of disappointing in the grand scheme against
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Raiders defense that was unable to stop anybody else.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But your EPA per rush here data really illustrates that, YEP,
- 14:14Speaker 1: still bad but worse than their season average. Bait that
- 14:19Speaker 1: wouldn't have I didn't think it was that bad, but
- 14:21Speaker 1: it clearly it was.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, they're just not efficient running the ball,
- 14:27Speaker 3: and it's too It's too bad, Sam, because they did
- 14:29Speaker 3: a couple of things that I liked, including thirteen personnel
- 14:33Speaker 3: with cam alat two out there gap scheme runs.
- 14:35Speaker 1: We saw Dickerson pulling, we saw some trapping. We saw
- 14:38Speaker 1: a lot to a lot two coming across the line
- 14:41Speaker 1: of scrimmage like either you can call it a wham
- 14:44Speaker 1: block or a trap block, depending on how where his
- 14:46Speaker 1: positioning was. So I thought that did some interesting hat
- 14:49Speaker 1: on hat concepts, you know, which ordinarily there are a
- 14:52Speaker 1: zone running team and I you know, I guess I
- 14:55Speaker 1: would have guessed that their EPA per rush would have
- 14:58Speaker 1: been a little bit higher than there see average, not lower.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I would have too. But listen, I mean these
- 15:06Speaker 2: concepts they're working on, they may work in the future,
- 15:10Speaker 2: but they like and the payoff doesn't have to be
- 15:13Speaker 2: this game, is what I'm saying. It did not reflect
- 15:17Speaker 2: that in the stat sheet. But like the eye test,
- 15:19Speaker 2: which we've talked about the difference between you know, statistics
- 15:22Speaker 2: and the eye test and how the eye test is
- 15:25Speaker 2: very important and they should compliment each other, not really
- 15:28Speaker 2: supplement each other. But I think the eye test is
- 15:31Speaker 2: telling that these concepts could work and should work in
- 15:34Speaker 2: the future. And the statistics honestly are probably lagging behind.
- 15:39Speaker 2: But I think if they continue to work and be
- 15:41Speaker 2: efficient at it, this the stix will fix themselves.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Oh. I mean the eagles have to hope that because
- 15:48Speaker 1: they've been waiting for a lot of years for that
- 15:50Speaker 1: to happen. So we will see. I meant a lot
- 15:52Speaker 1: of weeks this year for that to happen. Hey, I

- 19:29Speaker 1: Cammed In Apothecary top quality cannabis, great prices, and an
- 19:33Speaker 1: experience made for Philly fans. Twenty one and up and
- 19:38Speaker 1: EPA per Russia is still weird to me because it's
- 19:40Speaker 1: worse than their season average, yet they had a better
- 19:43Speaker 1: run success rate by about nine percent. Now some of
- 19:47Speaker 1: that was probably Jalen Hurts running.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:49Speaker 1: In fact, I would imagine that that really inflates the numbers. Yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: because they're run stuffed rate, which is more about your
- 19:56Speaker 1: running back than anything, is below their season averag. Absolutely, yeah,
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Just only a little bit below is what
- 20:04Speaker 1: I meant to say. So they were still getting stuffed
- 20:07Speaker 1: at a decent amount, but their success was higher because
- 20:11Speaker 1: of the Hurts runs. Sure, all right for mation, let's.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Go with that. So I changed this a little bit,
- 20:19Speaker 2: played around it. I used my success metrics that we
- 20:23Speaker 2: used at Penn State when I was there, because I
- 20:26Speaker 2: liked those and I think they're good. If you remember,
- 20:29Speaker 2: if you watch the show. You listen to this show
- 20:31Speaker 2: in the past, it's in the bottom right. You can
- 20:34Speaker 2: see it. First down you pick up forty percent or more.
- 20:38Speaker 2: So it's just, you know, a four yard gain or
- 20:39Speaker 2: more that's efficient. Second down you pick up half of it,
- 20:43Speaker 2: third down you pick it all up, and fourth down
- 20:45Speaker 2: you pick it all up. So I looked at all
- 20:47Speaker 2: the plays under that context based on the formation, and
- 20:50Speaker 2: that's how we determined what is efficient. And I split
- 20:53Speaker 2: it up between runs and passes. And that being said,
- 20:57Speaker 2: you look at their efficient runs. They were sixty six
- 21:00Speaker 2: percent efficient on their runs, and that's still generated a
- 21:04Speaker 2: negative zero point zero seven EPA rush. You look at
- 21:09Speaker 2: the passes and they were efficient on sixty eight point
- 21:12Speaker 2: two percent of the passes, and yet that created a
- 21:15Speaker 2: zero point eight seven EPA per pass. Because what the
- 21:20Speaker 2: difference is is, you know, EPA looks at like how
- 21:24Speaker 2: do you get yourselves in a position to score, like
- 21:26Speaker 2: do you improve that? Versus this just looks at efficiency,
- 21:29Speaker 2: and that's just are you keeping the drive in, are
- 21:32Speaker 2: you keeping the drive going? Can you maintain it? Are
- 21:35Speaker 2: you on schedule? That's really the big difference, and that's
- 21:38Speaker 2: why the efficiency statistics are much closer because they were
- 21:42Speaker 2: efficient on both whatever they decided to do, But did
- 21:46Speaker 2: they put themselves in a better position to score more
- 21:49Speaker 2: likely than not by the pass and and implicitly by
- 21:52Speaker 2: the system Like the way it's done generally, EPA per
- 21:55Speaker 2: pass it puts you in a better position just naturally
- 22:00Speaker 2: because you gain more yards by passing. Typically. Yeah, that's
- 22:04Speaker 2: why naturally you'll see most of the time EPA per
- 22:07Speaker 2: pass be higher than EPA per run. Just at the outset,
- 22:10Speaker 2: I wanted to explain the different sure concept.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Sure and by the way, for those who who can't
- 22:15Speaker 1: see and those were watching the pie chart at single back,
- 22:19Speaker 1: which is basically under center back behind the quarterback, sort
- 22:23Speaker 1: of traditional nineties football. Eagles have forty four percent, their
- 22:27Speaker 1: highest percentage of the year twenty nine snaps of under
- 22:32Speaker 1: center with this again, and it continues to really help
- 22:35Speaker 1: them more in the pass game, ironically than the run game,
- 22:37Speaker 1: with a sixty two zero point one percent total success
- 22:41Speaker 1: and one pass success six for six, So under center
- 22:45Speaker 1: continues to be a spark for the Eagles offense. Maybe
- 22:47Speaker 1: not the way they intended it, because I think they
- 22:49Speaker 1: thought it would help their run game, but it has
- 22:51Speaker 1: actually helped their pass game because of the great play
- 22:54Speaker 1: action that they get on What do we have here
- 22:58Speaker 1: on Jalen Hurts?
- 23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean listen, we're back on positive CPOE completion
- 23:03Speaker 2: percentage of expectation, Hurts making the tough throws and his
- 23:07Speaker 2: receivers making the tough catches. Hurts was twelve for fifteen
- 23:11Speaker 2: for one hundred and seventy five yards, three touchdowns and
- 23:14Speaker 2: zero interceptions. All completed throws are on the left and
- 23:19Speaker 2: three obviously in the middle of the field. It's very
- 23:22Speaker 2: interesting the cluster that you see that it's it's pretty
- 23:27Speaker 2: much middle left, Yes, one in completion to the right.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I thought the touchdown that he threw to AJ Brown
- 23:35Speaker 1: was caught, but is that, Oh that is the touch Okay, yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 1: it's right there at the numbers. Yeah, I thought when
- 23:39Speaker 1: he caught it it was actually between But I mean
- 23:41Speaker 1: it looks like this chart shows as he's striding he
- 23:45Speaker 1: gets in between the numbers. So two, that's in between
- 23:47Speaker 1: the numbers.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Throw you know you can call it that and that.
- 23:50Speaker 2: I mean it is between the numbers for sure, like
- 23:53Speaker 2: it certainly is. You can see it on there.
- 23:55Speaker 1: This does look more like his old charts though of
- 23:57Speaker 1: completely on one.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Side of the Yeah, it's very very one side center right.
- 24:02Speaker 1: But I mean when it's there, you take it for
- 24:04Speaker 1: a lot of those guys were wide open.
- 24:06Speaker 2: I don't think that's sustainable. Though. You need to spread
- 24:08Speaker 2: the ball out a little bit more.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Agree, I do. I mean, it's not it's showing it
- 24:12Speaker 1: as incomplete. But well, I guess I don't know the
- 24:14Speaker 1: penalty on the first drive AJ Brown that was down
- 24:17Speaker 1: the right sideline. Either way, there you go, twelve fifteen
- 24:22Speaker 1: one seventy. Forgot.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Hurts also became the first QB in the Super Bowl
- 24:25Speaker 2: era to throw three plus touchdowns with three or fewer
- 24:28Speaker 2: incompletions innocingly.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Wow. The accolades continue. And I think that the CPOE
- 24:35Speaker 1: there at just two point nine, which you thought might
- 24:37Speaker 1: have been way higher given the kind of game that
- 24:40Speaker 1: he had, just shows you that they were just there
- 24:43Speaker 1: were not difficult windows for him to have to thread
- 24:45Speaker 1: that touchdown. AJ Brown might have been the only one.
- 24:48Speaker 2: But that's the thing. It shouldn't be. They shouldn't always
- 24:50Speaker 2: be difficult.
- 24:51Speaker 1: No, I agree, I agree. I think it's a good thing.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's indicative of the scheme actually taking advantage of
- 24:58Speaker 2: creating guy's space and opening.
- 25:01Speaker 1: That's what you want.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Barkley's oh go ahead, Well I was gonna say with Barkley,
- 25:06Speaker 2: it's the exact opposite. All the success was to the
- 25:09Speaker 2: right as opposed to the left. So it's a little
- 25:12Speaker 2: bit interesting. It's like we punched to the left with throw,
- 25:15Speaker 2: we counterpunched with runs to the right.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Now the one The one thing's interesting though, is that
- 25:19Speaker 1: we've we have felt, at least Adam and I that
- 25:22Speaker 1: running outside might be a better tact for now, with
- 25:25Speaker 1: the injuries and the beat in the wear down of
- 25:28Speaker 1: the Eagles interior line, it looks like they really did.
- 25:30Speaker 1: And part of that was what I was talking about
- 25:32Speaker 1: with having a lot to come across the line of screamers.
- 25:35Speaker 1: They did try to work, pulling tight ends and linemen
- 25:39Speaker 1: to get outside a little bit more in gap scheme.
- 25:41Speaker 1: So this is evidence of that.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, and that's the only reason I put
- 25:46Speaker 2: it up now. I could have easily said Goddard was
- 25:49Speaker 2: the star of the stat sheet, but I'm still not
- 25:52Speaker 2: convinced on this offense summers. I'm reserving it for I
- 25:56Speaker 2: think any other good offensive performance.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I think we all are all right. It's no star
- 26:02Speaker 1: of the statute for offense or defense. What can I mean,
- 26:06Speaker 1: Let's look at all the Green h versus the Raiders
- 26:09Speaker 1: compared to even their their season average, it's all very good.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Trying to think if there's a zero stack box. That's
- 26:16Speaker 1: interesting because the Raiders will play multiple tight ends Meyer
- 26:21Speaker 1: and Crosby, and they will. They try. They're not good
- 26:25Speaker 1: at that. They try to run with their you know,
- 26:27Speaker 1: top pick ashing genty but you will, excuse me, shut
- 26:30Speaker 1: them down and didn't devote a whole lot of resources
- 26:32Speaker 1: to it.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean both Meyer and Meyers and Bauers
- 26:36Speaker 2: did not do well, you know, So yep, it's interesting.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Would you say at twelve point nine, a thirteen percent
- 26:43Speaker 1: sack rate is one of the highest you'll you'll see?
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I was about that was going to be my
- 26:48Speaker 2: next thing, especially on a six point five percent blitz rate.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Right, that's incredible, right there, a thirteen percent sack rate,
- 26:57Speaker 1: a twenty three percent pressure rate on just a six
- 27:01Speaker 1: and a half percent. I think they threw one blitz
- 27:02Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I mean it would make sense.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's how you get a number that low, and
- 27:09Speaker 1: that would make our star of the statue. You love
- 27:12Speaker 1: this guy as your stars.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I love Vic Fangio. I'm sure all Philadelphia fans at
- 27:18Speaker 2: least they should love Vic. If you don't love Vic Fangio,
- 27:22Speaker 2: I don't know if you can be a fan of
- 27:23Speaker 2: this team. I mean, he is heart and soul of
- 27:25Speaker 2: this team. The defense is pretty much the heart of
- 27:28Speaker 2: the heart and soul of the team.
- 27:29Speaker 1: So I like that you picked a picture of him
- 27:31Speaker 1: for those who can't see, it's like his mug shot
- 27:33Speaker 1: with the Eagles hired on and he's smiling, and it's like,
- 27:36Speaker 1: you never see victim with this kind of smile, but
- 27:38Speaker 1: you know that they're taking the team photo and he
- 27:40Speaker 1: has to smile. So I just it makes me wonder
- 27:43Speaker 1: how off how many times they had to ask him to,
- 27:46Speaker 1: like widen that smile a.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Little bit for this, But they probably talked Phillies with him.
- 27:50Speaker 1: And that's a good point. That's a good point. So
- 27:54Speaker 1: you have set your stat here on the seventy five
- 27:56Speaker 1: total yards.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the fewest by the Eagles in a single
- 28:01Speaker 2: game of the Super Bowl era, and it's the fewest
- 28:04Speaker 2: yards allowed this season. The average one yard per drop back,
- 28:07Speaker 2: which we already talked about.
- 28:09Speaker 1: That's embarrassing. I mean, I feel the Raiders. You just
- 28:11Speaker 1: have to be embarrassed by that. Yeah, it's one yard
- 28:15Speaker 1: per drop back. I mean, you practice three days a week,
- 28:18Speaker 1: but you're there from you know, Tuesday to Saturday. Are
- 28:21Speaker 1: you putting a lot of time and energy and resources.
- 28:24Speaker 2: To do that.
- 28:25Speaker 1: That's tough.
- 28:26Speaker 2: It is tough. And one of the things that was interesting.
- 28:30Speaker 2: We'll talk about it when we get the spray chart.
- 28:32Speaker 2: But I was talking to my dad while we were
- 28:33Speaker 2: watching the game, and I was just like, Kenny Pickett
- 28:36Speaker 2: will not throw the ball more than eight yards. That
- 28:38Speaker 2: was the euristic I told him. I said, you just
- 28:40Speaker 2: won't see it, and if he does, it won't be completed.
- 28:43Speaker 2: And that's exactly what the spray chart will show. And honestly,
- 28:46Speaker 2: he didn't really have time to throw it more than that,
- 28:48Speaker 2: but I just from his time here, just that's what
- 28:51Speaker 2: I was expecting.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Sure, Continuing with this first down sixcess, I like this,
- 28:57Speaker 1: this is a good stat that we probably are going
- 29:00Speaker 1: through for the first time or not as much. But
- 29:02Speaker 1: Raiders first down success was thirteen point three percent, so
- 29:06Speaker 1: they were behind the sticks all game.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it was the fourth lowest by any defense this season.
- 29:12Speaker 2: And yeah, I also want to just mention one statistic
- 29:15Speaker 2: that we didn't go right before this shutout was the
- 29:20Speaker 2: Eagles first shutout since Washington Week seventeen, twenty eighteen.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Twenty eighteen. Trying to think of remember that game? Okay, Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: I wonder which which of the eleven quarterbacks the command
- 29:32Speaker 1: the Washington was playing over that span was the guy
- 29:37Speaker 1: that was the year after the Super Bowl, So Kirk
- 29:40Speaker 1: Cousins maybe, I.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Mean that makes sense unless he was hurt at that point, which.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Very very well, which has always been the case. When
- 29:48Speaker 1: the Eagles played Washington, Yeah, they only.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Allowed one explosive play the entire game. And this statistic
- 29:56Speaker 2: is probably my favorite of the entire show. The Eagles
- 29:59Speaker 2: did not record any mistackles, huge first by any defense
- 30:04Speaker 2: this season.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Now, this is weird because watching the tape doors there
- 30:07Speaker 1: was one play where they threw it to Bowers on
- 30:09Speaker 1: the side and he kind of got out from I
- 30:12Speaker 1: think at Dori Jackson diving at his ankle. I wonder
- 30:15Speaker 1: exactly how they track miss tackles because I thought that
- 30:18Speaker 1: and listen, this is really nitpicky, but since it's we're
- 30:21Speaker 1: talking about this specific stat I think there was one
- 30:24Speaker 1: or two plays where a guy was at another guy's
- 30:27Speaker 1: ankle or a leg and just couldn't come up with
- 30:29Speaker 1: it and the guy got a the Raider got a
- 30:31Speaker 1: yard or two more. But that's I mean, it's fine.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm just I just wonder exactly who tracks it and
- 30:37Speaker 1: what their their criteria is.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I wish we had a little more information on
- 30:41Speaker 2: that that would make it a little bit better.
- 30:43Speaker 1: For sure, BG the og if you watched the game,
- 30:48Speaker 1: it felt like he was playing every down because he
- 30:52Speaker 1: had to. He had two sacks and a tackle for
- 30:55Speaker 1: a loss, and he was lined up on the inside,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and he kept like saying his name. And yet how
- 31:01Speaker 1: many snaps did he play?
- 31:02Speaker 2: So seven?
- 31:03Speaker 1: Seven?
- 31:04Speaker 2: That's it.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Talk about making your presence known, on making the most
- 31:08Speaker 1: of your limited opportunities.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, listen, they were seven impactful snaps, right sure.
- 31:15Speaker 2: The first snap that he played, eight yard sack, second
- 31:19Speaker 2: snap incomplete pass, third snap seven yard sack by him,
- 31:23Speaker 2: fourth snap incomplete past, fifth snap, same thing, sixth nap
- 31:27Speaker 2: interception by Bond, seventh snap ten yard sacked by Smith.
- 31:31Speaker 1: And he had pressures on those that interception in sack.
- 31:33Speaker 1: I mean he was he had. I don't even know
- 31:36Speaker 1: what else to say anymore about Brandon Graham. He's just
- 31:38Speaker 1: a legend for a reason.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and you you probably talked about him shifting to
- 31:43Speaker 2: the inside, which I think was really interesting and it
- 31:45Speaker 2: worked pretty well, especially in Carter's absence. But I did
- 31:49Speaker 2: note six out of the seven he was playing interior
- 31:52Speaker 2: defensive line.
- 31:53Speaker 1: You just did the six to seventh thing.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Now, Oh, you made somebody, but I Didn'tally, I should
- 32:00Speaker 2: dissipated that though.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett's pass chart looks like something that doesn't look
- 32:09Speaker 1: like a pass chart. There's no lines, No, it's only
- 32:14Speaker 1: a little few pepperings of the field. I mean everything
- 32:16Speaker 1: is at the line of scrimmage behind nothing more than
- 32:19Speaker 1: ten Like you said, one explosive play so and not
- 32:22Speaker 1: even I don't know this is this is like pee
- 32:25Speaker 1: wee pophorn or football pass charge here.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and it shows that he really didn't go past
- 32:31Speaker 2: that you know, eight to ten yard mark at all,
- 32:35Speaker 2: and when he did it was interception in completion, incompletion, incompletion, one.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Completion minus eight point eight cpo e. Yikes. Oh boy.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Not the best, no former Eagle, you know, but hey,
- 32:51Speaker 2: we'll take it.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, So some some of this up for me, Sam,
- 32:55Speaker 1: I mean, it's the Raiders, but Adam and I have
- 32:57Speaker 1: said the pod the Raiders have of a three point
- 33:01Speaker 1: loss to the Broncos, a seven point loss to the Broncos,
- 33:04Speaker 1: a one point loss to the Jags, they get off
- 33:06Speaker 1: the bus to play. I mean, I think that the
- 33:08Speaker 1: Eagles got right in a sense. But at the same time,
- 33:12Speaker 1: you know, there's obviously some better competition ahead.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, but this was needed. This has been
- 33:19Speaker 2: one of the most grueling schedules I think the Eagles
- 33:21Speaker 2: have faced in a long time, and it's not just
- 33:24Speaker 2: because of the competition. I mean, they haven't had back
- 33:26Speaker 2: to back home games. They this is their fourth game
- 33:31Speaker 2: or maybe fifth game where they have short rest like
- 33:34Speaker 2: they have strong they have. The schedule hasn't been beneficial
- 33:38Speaker 2: to them because of the competition, one which the Eagles
- 33:41Speaker 2: can't control. I mean that's determined by the league in
- 33:44Speaker 2: advance for the most part. Some of it has to
- 33:47Speaker 2: do with how they performed last year, some of the
- 33:49Speaker 2: additional games, but I mean it was a tough schedule
- 33:53Speaker 2: by virtue of because they were won the Super Bowl
- 33:56Speaker 2: and they were a Super Bowl team. It's a tough
- 33:58Speaker 2: schedule that naturally it was a tough schedule just beaus
- 34:01Speaker 2: of the divisions they were playing, but the schedule makers
- 34:04Speaker 2: didn't make it easy on them. So I think it's
- 34:08Speaker 2: acceptable how they performed. But I think this was a
- 34:11Speaker 2: much needed game to carry some momentum. You know, see
