- 0:00Speaker 1: So everyone took my rats home from breaking sketch?
- 0:03Speaker 2: Yeah did they.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Yes, there was a sketch that we did where everyone
- 0:09Speaker 1: was ratitueed in the courtroom. Yeah, we were ratatoey, being
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Pixar film from two thousand and seven.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yes, Yeah, we did a sketch show this past weekend
- 0:21Speaker 2: that was like the the SNL style sketch show.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 2: The peak in prop puts on quick turnaround.
- 0:29Speaker 1: The sketches have to be written in a certain amount
- 0:31Speaker 1: of time and then on the show day, the actors
- 0:34Speaker 1: show up at ten am get scripts and the shows tonight.
- 0:40Speaker 2: It happens. It happens in that amount of time. And yeah,
- 0:43Speaker 2: you stitched rats on top of headbands, like toy rats
- 0:46Speaker 2: on top of headbands, not real rats.
- 0:49Speaker 1: They were adorable. They were and I was like, gosh,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I hope people want to wear these because it'll be
- 0:55Speaker 1: it'll it'll be fun and it'll be great for the sketch.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Everyone loved them so much they took them home perfect.
- 1:02Speaker 2: People named them.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I think, yeah, Henry is one of them.
- 1:06Speaker 2: There was a Henry.
- 1:07Speaker 1: There was a Henry.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Good rat name.
- 1:09Speaker 1: That's a good rat name.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I feel like anything that is sort of an old English,
- 1:14Speaker 2: like what an English Victorian schoolboy would be called? Alliver
- 1:18Speaker 2: would be a good rat name. Oh, Reggie Reggie shot
- 1:23Speaker 2: for Reginald of course, sure for Reginald, Reggie the rat,
- 1:26Speaker 2: Reggie the rat.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Ah. I was so pleased. The show went incredibly well
- 1:31Speaker 1: and everyone had a great time.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you had a great A few good men's style
- 1:35Speaker 2: lawyer speech of like trying to defend the concept of
- 1:39Speaker 2: being rattaitueed and how while performing open hearts, while performing
- 1:43Speaker 2: open heart surgery, and that you know, humans have a
- 1:45Speaker 2: right to be rattitu They have a right to scoop
- 1:48Speaker 2: up a rat and have it puppet them.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, pilot their arms while pulling their hair. It's that's fine.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that that should be allowed. Really, the sketch was
- 1:59Speaker 2: just a thinly veiled metaphor for artificial intelligence human's reliance
- 2:06Speaker 2: on it. But everyone consumed it like it was just
- 2:09Speaker 2: a funny rat sketch, But actually there was there was subtext.
- 2:12Speaker 2: And we're healing the nation.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I think we're healing the nation.
- 2:17Speaker 2: That's what I've got to tell myself in order to
- 2:19Speaker 2: stay sane. I think, yeah, I'm on board percent. We
- 2:24Speaker 2: can save the world with rats.
- 2:25Speaker 1: A thinly veiled metaphor.
- 2:28Speaker 2: A thinly veiled metaphor.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Welcome to Bonus round.
- 2:40Speaker 2: We're here.
- 2:41Speaker 1: We're here our first true episode.
- 2:44Speaker 2: The real one. The last one was fake. This is real.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The last one was a fake episode. But anyone who
- 2:50Speaker 1: listened to it is still a real one.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Yes, I like that. That's great, and crucially you are real.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Don't panic, don't panic, please sort of star off. Let's
- 3:00Speaker 1: talk about some general admin is.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Always is it still listed as general admin?
- 3:05Speaker 1: Still listed as general admin in my notes?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Well, I think we've got some less than general admin. Gasp, yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 2: gasp right, yeah, I reckon. It's the it's big news,
- 3:18Speaker 2: big admin, big admin.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Ah, sergeant admins.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Slegeant, what's of a general admiral admin that actually works?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Admiral admin, Admiral admin, Admiral tia admin.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, we have booked the local theater for our live
- 3:37Speaker 1: in person human show.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yes, we are going to do Fandemonium live at the
- 3:42Speaker 2: Peak Improv Theater on May the twenty fourth of this year,
- 3:46Speaker 2: twenty twenty five.
- 3:47Speaker 1: May the twenty fourth be with you.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yes, we are making it a Star Wars themed show,
- 3:53Speaker 2: so we're going to call it May the twenty fourth,
- 3:55Speaker 2: be with you, just like the Star Wars people say.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I love this because our show is anarchic, antarctic, anarchic,
- 4:04Speaker 1: anarchic game show, and so I think if we booked
- 4:07Speaker 1: it on May the fourth, one, it's probably a weekday.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So that's fun. But also people might have an expectation
- 4:16Speaker 1: that things will be by the book.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yes, standard Star Wars people would expect on May the fourth,
- 4:22Speaker 2: but on.
- 4:22Speaker 1: May the twenty fourth, be with you. That's a joke. Yeah,
- 4:26Speaker 1: already we're coming in hat.
- 4:28Speaker 2: We're unseerious people, and we're going to be unserious about
- 4:31Speaker 2: a beloved fandom.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Mm hm, so you already know what you're getting in for.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We'll have ticket links closer to the dates. If you
- 4:38Speaker 2: are based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, or I'm going to
- 4:42Speaker 2: say it, if you're based in Colorado, you can you
- 4:44Speaker 2: can travel a little bit, I reckon. Yeah, So we'll
- 4:47Speaker 2: have tickets available closer to the time. But for now,
- 4:50Speaker 2: that's just a really cool thing to announce that we'll
- 4:52Speaker 2: be doing a pandemonium. The thing that started as a
- 4:56Speaker 2: way to play game shows with friends during the pandemic
- 5:01Speaker 2: has now over the years evolved into friends and occasional
- 5:05Speaker 2: guests playing game shows for laughs and fun that lots
- 5:08Speaker 2: of people seem to enjoy. Absolutely, we're going to be
- 5:11Speaker 2: doing it live in front of a live audience for
- 5:13Speaker 2: the first time, live live.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I love it now. That was the Admiral admin. Yes,
- 5:20Speaker 1: the general admin.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Well we can say it deputy admin.
- 5:23Speaker 1: The deputy of the private admin.
- 5:27Speaker 2: But it's public.
- 5:28Speaker 1: But it is public. You can follow us on Patreon.
- 5:31Speaker 1: We do have a free tier now where you can
- 5:33Speaker 1: enjoy our episodes without any ads.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yes, do you sign up to that Patreon dot com
- 5:39Speaker 2: forward slash gatesleepers. Do you sign up there? Because then
- 5:42Speaker 2: you get all of the regular episodes we release on
- 5:45Speaker 2: the gate Leapers podcast feed without any ads. That's just
- 5:48Speaker 2: nicer and better for you.
- 5:50Speaker 1: It's just kind of nicer and better.
- 5:52Speaker 2: We first and foremost don't make gate leapers for profit.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It's for fun, so I don't reread. The ads are
- 6:00Speaker 2: a nice bonus that some company gives us. But I
- 6:04Speaker 2: prefer you had a better listening experience, and you can
- 6:07Speaker 2: probably do that on Patreon.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Considering that this podcast started to bring joy, let's keep
- 6:12Speaker 1: that trainer rolling.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that's all this is going to be. It's the
- 6:15Speaker 2: most fun thing in the world.
- 6:17Speaker 1: You can also follow us on Instagram. We have clips
- 6:21Speaker 1: from our shows. It's so fun.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yeah at Gateleaper's pod on insta check out some of
- 6:27Speaker 2: the latest clips from our Pandemonium episodes. Clips for other
- 6:31Speaker 2: Gateleapers shows coming soon. Ooh gasp, Gas.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I called and one of you answered, it's time for
- 6:42Speaker 1: the mail bag. Yes, as always, you can send your
- 6:46Speaker 1: muses for our recent fandoms or any fandom that we
- 6:49Speaker 1: have done. You can send that to Gateleapers at gmail
- 6:53Speaker 1: dot com.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Or leave a comment on Spotify ooh, or Patreon, or
- 6:58Speaker 2: leave a comment on Patreon.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Incredible. So we have received a muse yes from Aaron Randolph. Yes,
- 7:06Speaker 1: Aaron Hell, Yes, absolutely love erin.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Thank you. First of all, can I say thank you Aaron?
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yes?
- 7:13Speaker 2: Second of all, can I say if you're also if
- 7:15Speaker 2: you're listening to this and on the gate Leapers cast
- 7:18Speaker 2: and you weren't on an episode but you wanted to
- 7:21Speaker 2: share what your muse would have been from that episode,
- 7:23Speaker 2: please email in just like Aaron did.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I would love to hear. I want
- 7:27Speaker 1: to hear everyone's muse for every fandom.
- 7:30Speaker 2: And this is also our experiment to find out if
- 7:32Speaker 2: iHeartRadio have artificially inflated numbers and it's actually just thus
- 7:37Speaker 2: group of friends listening to this podcast. So this this
- 7:41Speaker 2: will be the test gang.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'm going to read Aaron's muse yes please,
- 7:47Speaker 1: he has not specified a stage direction for me, so
- 7:51Speaker 1: I shall read it as myself.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair, that's fair.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Hi, Gateleapers, Aaron Randolph here. Yes, I've decided that I'm
- 7:58Speaker 1: not involved enough in the Bone Round, so I had
- 8:01Speaker 1: to write a muse.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yes, Aaron coming up Laza to host the versus Ultra segments.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Absolutely, you're not involved enough in the Bonus Round. You
- 8:09Speaker 1: were correct, be involved more as it happens. I'm just
- 8:12Speaker 1: not a reality TV person. But there is exactly one
- 8:16Speaker 1: show that intrigued me enough to start watching and then
- 8:19Speaker 1: keep watching and then be sad that it was over.
- 8:23Speaker 1: It was called Strip Search, and do not be fooled
- 8:27Speaker 1: by the name.
- 8:28Speaker 3: There.
- 8:28Speaker 1: No, there were no polls involved. Penny Arcade commissioned Canadian
- 8:34Speaker 1: sketch comedy group Loading Ready Run to produce a show
- 8:38Speaker 1: where sixteen webcomic creators live together in a house and
- 8:41Speaker 1: compete in art challenges, getting eliminated one by one in
- 8:46Speaker 1: head to head art offs until the final winner gets
- 8:50Speaker 1: a year long contract and their webcomic produced under Penny
- 8:53Speaker 1: Arcades banner.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Oh nice, Okay.
- 8:55Speaker 1: The reason I loved it so much is because it
- 8:57Speaker 1: is so different to any reality show I've ever seen.
- 9:01Speaker 1: All of the contestants are quirky and interesting as hell,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and there's literally no in fighting or shitty behavior. The
- 9:07Speaker 1: one contestant who starts the competition in a reality TV
- 9:11Speaker 1: headspace comes to regret it before long. It's so positive
- 9:14Speaker 1: and wholesome and literally wall to wall awesome and hilarious art.
- 9:18Speaker 1: The only downside is they did only one season, but
- 9:21Speaker 1: they did produce a documentary following up with Everyone in
- 9:24Speaker 1: their Lives a year later, and that was the only
- 9:26Speaker 1: reality TV show I'd say I ever watched from beginning
- 9:29Speaker 1: to end until The Traders anyway, of course, of course,
- 9:35Speaker 1: but that's just because it's really a big hidden identity game.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And also Claudia Winkelman can do no Russ Yes, yes
- 9:42Speaker 1: to all of that, Hugs, yes to that.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Aaron Randolph, Yes, hugs Aaron, hugs Latha when you host
- 9:49Speaker 2: My Passus Ultra, I've never heard of that reality show before.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I enjoy the pun uh huh of strip search. Yeah,
- 9:56Speaker 2: I now get that, mm hmm. But that does sound cool,
- 9:59Speaker 2: and it does. I don't know. The talent competitions were
- 10:01Speaker 2: set so early in a precedent of like, it's the
- 10:05Speaker 2: big record companies and Simon Cowell's going to offer you
- 10:08Speaker 2: a million dollars to make an album. The drive to
- 10:12Speaker 2: reward creativity was set very early on by the mainstream
- 10:15Speaker 2: of reality TV, and so there wasn't chance for them
- 10:19Speaker 2: to be like the small grassroots of entertaining ways of
- 10:23Speaker 2: giving bursaries.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah, because if you are someone who wants to champion
- 10:28Speaker 1: people's art, you can do that by giving them money,
- 10:32Speaker 1: giving them an opportunity, et cetera. But also by creating
- 10:35Speaker 1: an entertaining show, you are showing a lot of people
- 10:39Speaker 1: the work that this person can do and how talented
- 10:42Speaker 1: they are. And so you can do that in multiple ways.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 1: You can pay artists to be on a show. You
- 10:49Speaker 1: can pay artists when they win. You can pay artists
- 10:52Speaker 1: by all the people who will pay them for their art.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Who's you've now seen them on TV? Yeah, can then
- 10:58Speaker 2: find them on social media. So even just being on
- 11:01Speaker 2: the lineup would be something.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, And so you really get to give exposure to
- 11:06Speaker 1: a lot more artists.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Oh my god, we've just justified paying for exposure.
- 11:11Speaker 1: No, I did say you can. You should pay artists
- 11:14Speaker 1: for being on the show.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, yeah, you've got to be a paid cast member.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yes, I said that, Yeah you did.
- 11:20Speaker 2: You did say that. I just realized the conclusion we
- 11:22Speaker 2: were both coming to that I saw into that conversation.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it was an element. God damn it. But thank
- 11:30Speaker 1: you so much, Aeron.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that that is inspiring, absol. That's a good muse
- 11:35Speaker 2: for reality TV especially. Yeah, that was good hearing a
- 11:38Speaker 2: muse that isn't normally something that Aaron would be into.
- 11:43Speaker 2: We can often be inspired by things that are outside
- 11:45Speaker 2: of our comfort zone.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of pushing you to move in a different
- 11:49Speaker 1: direction than you normally would have stayed.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, that's a good thing. Thank you, Eron, Thank you,
- 11:58Speaker 2: And if you would like order to read your muse
- 12:00Speaker 2: out send your muse send us what inspires you about
- 12:03Speaker 2: any of the fandoms we've covered here on the gate
- 12:05Speaker 2: Leapers podcast feed, basically about any fandom at all. What
- 12:08Speaker 2: inspires you about any fandom?
- 12:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like a good way to get a
- 12:14Speaker 1: fandom we haven't done on the list is to send
- 12:16Speaker 1: me a muse about it.
- 12:17Speaker 2: That is such a good shout.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Like if there's a fandom that you're like, this is
- 12:22Speaker 1: a big fandom and we, like you guys, have not
- 12:25Speaker 1: touched it, send us a muse.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yes, oh, that that would spark the inspiration that would
- 12:31Speaker 2: make an episode happen. Absolutely send that's a gateleapers at
- 12:34Speaker 2: gmail dot com. Do it now, you coward, You're not
- 12:37Speaker 2: a coward. I'm so sorry.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I'm so sorry. That was really aggressive of us. And
- 12:42Speaker 1: now onto the segment I believe we called the lily
- 12:46Speaker 1: Pad of irrelevancy.
- 12:48Speaker 2: We can't be sticking with that, can we?
- 12:51Speaker 1: We can until we come up with anything better.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yep, sure, that's fine. Uh, what was the premise of
- 12:57Speaker 2: it was? Yeah, extra clippings? Was that also a phrase
- 13:00Speaker 2: that was used?
- 13:01Speaker 1: Yes, I do also have blank TBD clippings segment.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Blank TBD clipping. That's worse.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yeah, lily Pat of irrelevancy has sounded pretty pretty sweet.
- 13:12Speaker 1: But basically what I hope to do here is we
- 13:14Speaker 1: can chat about some things that might not have made
- 13:16Speaker 1: it into the last couple of episodes, because I know
- 13:20Speaker 1: there's a lot of stuff might not be as funny,
- 13:23Speaker 1: but it's still super interesting about the fandoms.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Too wordy for a game show, you.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Know, Yeah, but I still love it. So we've got
- 13:32Speaker 1: Twin Peaks and rom Coms two Biggs.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yes, two excellent episodes in January. I mean, first of all,
- 13:40Speaker 2: got to shout out Drew Shulman for hosting Twin Peaks.
- 13:44Speaker 2: What a fantastic job. Probably one of my favorite games
- 13:47Speaker 2: we've ever played is the Talking One. I could have
- 13:50Speaker 2: played that all afternoon.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Absolutely. That was such a fun round. And I think
- 13:57Speaker 1: that some of my favorite Pandemonium rounds are when I
- 14:01Speaker 1: hear the description of this and I'm like, how is this?
- 14:05Speaker 1: How the fuck? How is this going to work?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah? And then it does, and then we pull it
- 14:10Speaker 2: off and we get like most the majority of them
- 14:13Speaker 2: were guessed right.
- 14:14Speaker 1: So I was like, there's no way I'm going to
- 14:17Speaker 1: be able to speak backwards or guess something backwards. It
- 14:21Speaker 1: was so much fun.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it was great. It was a good time, So
- 14:26Speaker 2: thank you Drew for that. But because of that, I
- 14:28Speaker 2: didn't really do any research for the episode itself, so
- 14:33Speaker 2: there wasn't anything that I was thinking of at the time,
- 14:36Speaker 2: but obviously since we put that episode out, the world
- 14:40Speaker 2: has lost David Lynch. Yes, and I'm not going to
- 14:44Speaker 2: be another thirty something hipster white dude who's talks for
- 14:48Speaker 2: a long time about how much David Lynch meant to
- 14:50Speaker 2: me as an artist. You've seen that a lot on
- 14:53Speaker 2: the Internet in the last couple of weeks. That's pretty
- 14:55Speaker 2: much what the internet has been other than politics.
- 14:58Speaker 1: We'll give you a little bit of a repriet. Yeah, Yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 1: from that, it was great. I loved his work.
- 15:04Speaker 2: That's it. But yeah, it's pretty weird timing for us
- 15:07Speaker 2: to have done the Twin Peaks episode and for us
- 15:10Speaker 2: to lose David Lynch.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Very weird timing, but honestly pretty good in the sense
- 15:16Speaker 1: that we have a recent celebration of David Lynch. Yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 1: so that we get to feel like, gosh, we really
- 15:23Speaker 1: delved into David Lynch recently, and so it feels the
- 15:26Speaker 1: freshest and most celebrated.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Definitely. Yeah. I do wonder how much more euphoric it
- 15:32Speaker 2: would have felt if it was recorded after the fact
- 15:35Speaker 2: and there would have been some catharsis there. But we
- 15:39Speaker 2: did find some cais this past weekend when we were
- 15:42Speaker 2: putting the sketcher on and for our sort of mixed
- 15:46Speaker 2: media ad section where we were doing some we spent
- 15:50Speaker 2: a day recording some audio sketches, doing some visualizers. We
- 15:54Speaker 2: were kind of brainstorming, Okay, what's current right now? What
- 15:57Speaker 2: can we make the ads? And I was like, well,
- 16:01Speaker 2: we lost David Lynch, can we do something with that?
- 16:03Speaker 2: And the idea came about to do a David Lynch
- 16:07Speaker 2: McDonald's commercial. Uh huh if everyone was waiting on his
- 16:11Speaker 2: last loss work. But it just turned out to be
- 16:13Speaker 2: a McDonald's commercial.
- 16:15Speaker 1: It was so much fun to be in that one
- 16:17Speaker 1: because I got to be agent Dale Cooper m lifelong.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Dream, dream fulfilled, dream.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Fulfilled, getting to play that and getting to celebrate David
- 16:28Speaker 1: Lynch in a fun and jovial way in our community.
- 16:31Speaker 1: It's really cool. They did lights flashing and I ordered
- 16:35Speaker 1: a rabbit burger. There was a video of black ooze
- 16:40Speaker 1: coming out of a fries container. I think David Lynch
- 16:44Speaker 1: would have loved it.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yeah, you made out with the cashier while someone riding
- 16:48Speaker 2: a horse danced in the background.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 1: If you haven't seen anything made by David Lynch, this
- 16:53Speaker 1: is well fever.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Dream But if you had, I hope you'll agree. It
- 16:59Speaker 2: was a fun little homage to do in what was
- 17:01Speaker 2: fair to say was probably the sketch that got the
- 17:03Speaker 2: fewest laughs. But it was fun to do.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Yes, me and Anna, the girl who played the cashier,
- 17:12Speaker 1: we were laughing. Yeah. We could not make eye contact
- 17:15Speaker 1: the entire time, so it was so much fun.
- 17:19Speaker 2: It was a good time. But yeah, because I didn't
- 17:21Speaker 2: do any research, so there was nothing that sparked an
- 17:24Speaker 2: idea or a question about the fandom. I just got
- 17:29Speaker 2: some David Lynch quotes written down here to spread the wisdom.
- 17:33Speaker 2: The dude was big on transcendental meditation, so he was
- 17:36Speaker 2: wise as hell. Yes, but also, I don't have the
- 17:39Speaker 2: brain to get very good at meditation. I can do
- 17:42Speaker 2: meditation in small doses, I can do it when I
- 17:46Speaker 2: need to do it, but never as a past time.
- 17:48Speaker 2: But never as a pastime. Well, actually I suppose at
- 17:52Speaker 2: various points in my life I have. But the world
- 17:55Speaker 2: is too chaotic, and I know that's the point of meditation.
- 17:58Speaker 1: But sometimes it can be too much.
- 18:00Speaker 2: It can it can be it can be too much. Okay,
- 18:03Speaker 2: So a big one that David Lynch said is negativity
- 18:06Speaker 2: is the enemy of creativity, which is a big ethos
- 18:11Speaker 2: of like him as an artist doesn't He doesn't feel
- 18:14Speaker 2: like you have to suffer for your art, and that
- 18:17Speaker 2: often the suffering is performative because if it's a if
- 18:21Speaker 2: it's a real depression, you're not able to even do
- 18:24Speaker 2: the art, like because he's been depressed, and it's like
- 18:27Speaker 2: when he's been in bouts of depression, you can't get
- 18:29Speaker 2: out of bed to do the art. But when you
- 18:30Speaker 2: are doing the art, that should be the joy.
- 18:32Speaker 1: That's the creativity I am allowed to express in this space.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I have the privilege to express in this space. This
- 18:40Speaker 1: is where the joy is good on him. That's a
- 18:42Speaker 1: good mindset, especially if you're a successful director. Yeah, that
- 18:46Speaker 1: idea of Oh I am privileged to be a successful director.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna be joyous about this.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. The he talked all the time about making work,
- 18:56Speaker 2: do the work, get the work done. I think he
- 18:59Speaker 2: just enjoyed make in art, like twelve hours a day
- 19:01Speaker 2: every day.
- 19:02Speaker 1: There's sometimes I'll hear the thing of like do what
- 19:04Speaker 1: you love and you'll never work a day in your life.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You'll never labor. Yeah, but you'll be working.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Well, you'll be working constantly, yeah, NonStop mm hm, apart
- 19:15Speaker 2: from to eat fries and burgers and milkshakes. And he smoked,
- 19:18Speaker 2: it's if we all knew we could make it to
- 19:21Speaker 2: seventy eight living that lifestyle, I think we all would.
- 19:25Speaker 2: But it's the not all bodies are made equally.
- 19:28Speaker 4: No.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Something else David Lynch said is we think we understand
- 19:32Speaker 2: the rules when we become adults, but what we really
- 19:35Speaker 2: experience is a narrowing of the imagination.
- 19:39Speaker 1: That speak to you, Yeah, that really genuinely speaks to me,
- 19:43Speaker 1: because I think we grow up and we do like
- 19:46Speaker 1: the pattern recognition thing, and then we just go right
- 19:50Speaker 1: into those ruts of what this pattern the easiest path is,
- 19:54Speaker 1: but that's rarely the most fun.
- 19:56Speaker 2: And we live in a I had to say it,
- 19:58Speaker 2: but we live in a society be living. It pushes
- 20:01Speaker 2: us into those ruts and doesn't necessarily encourage a lot
- 20:06Speaker 2: of the concepts that are imagination expanding.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Mm hmmm. And there is a lot there's a lot
- 20:12Speaker 1: of human kindness I think in the idea of creativity
- 20:15Speaker 1: and imagination. Yeah, there's a lot of that that can
- 20:18Speaker 1: be found there. Oh yeah, if you're tapped, I think
- 20:20Speaker 1: if you're tapped into it. I can't prove that, like
- 20:23Speaker 1: imagination and empathy are linked, but I really feel like
- 20:27Speaker 1: they are. But I challenge anyone to disprove it.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yes, all right, I got one more quote.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Please.
- 20:36Speaker 2: This is about this is about success. Oh, but it's
- 20:38Speaker 2: also about the work, Okay.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Nice.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Success can screw you because you start worrying about falling
- 20:44Speaker 2: and you can't ever stay in the same place. That's
- 20:47Speaker 2: just the way it is. You should be thankful for
- 20:49Speaker 2: success because people really loved something you did, but it's
- 20:52Speaker 2: all about the work.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I love that. As a more eloquent person than me said,
- 21:00Speaker 1: you get that fear of falling, and I bet that
- 21:03Speaker 1: I've never been massively successful creatively, but I feel like
- 21:06Speaker 1: that's going to impact your creativity. If you're just scared
- 21:09Speaker 1: about it going wrong, you just have to do it.
- 21:13Speaker 2: And I'm getting better at that and increasingly learning that
- 21:17Speaker 2: and accepting that. I wish I could be at twelve
- 21:19Speaker 2: hours a day creative creative.
- 21:23Speaker 1: My brain's fried after like four creative hours.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm about a standard work day of creative hours,
- 21:32Speaker 2: but twelve hours like what a Victorian school child's work day.
- 21:40Speaker 2: That's what David Lynch was doing.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Just refining coal.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you'll get to where you want to be in
- 21:46Speaker 2: creativity with the work ethic of a Victorian school child
- 21:51Speaker 2: shoveling coal into a furnace if you're lucky.
- 21:55Speaker 1: A newsy.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And David Lynch smoked forty cigarett today and still had
- 22:00Speaker 2: better lungs than that Victorian child.
- 22:03Speaker 1: An incredible man.
- 22:06Speaker 3: He was.
- 22:07Speaker 2: It was David Lynch. What a guy?
- 22:09Speaker 1: What a guy? Do you have anything equally as meaningful
- 22:14Speaker 1: about rom coms?
- 22:15Speaker 2: Well, not the death of an artist level of meaningful,
- 22:19Speaker 2: I assumed not, But I do have a little segment prepared.
- 22:25Speaker 2: And I didn't really know how this was going to go,
- 22:27Speaker 2: but it was the thing I was thinking of when
- 22:29Speaker 2: writing the rom com episode, the question that I just
- 22:32Speaker 2: couldn't get out of my mind, and then wanted to
- 22:35Speaker 2: know more about Saw. I researched more about and it
- 22:38Speaker 2: was just why were rom coms so popular from the
- 22:40Speaker 2: late eighties to the late two thousands, Like, yeah, why
- 22:44Speaker 2: was the Golden Age? The Golden Age?
- 22:46Speaker 1: There were so many during that period of time, and
- 22:49Speaker 1: I I'm sure they still make them and like trickle
- 22:52Speaker 1: them out because they still make most types of movies
- 22:55Speaker 1: and trickle them out, But there was an era where
- 22:59Speaker 1: you could not move for rom.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Com You couldn't swim through them.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Uh uh more than you could swing a cat out.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Yeah, more rom coms than you could swing at a cat.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Be nicer to that cat. Yeah, all right, So I
- 23:15Speaker 2: guess let's use a little bit of cultural analysis to
- 23:18Speaker 2: find out why.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yes, lay it on me.
- 23:21Speaker 2: So why was the gold nature of rom coms the
- 23:23Speaker 2: golden age at that particular time? There were a lot
- 23:26Speaker 2: of rom coms in like the forties, like Screwball comedies
- 23:29Speaker 2: and things like that, His Girl Friday, His Girl Friday. Wow,
- 23:33Speaker 2: she's a fast talking whipper snapper and he's a lovable
- 23:36Speaker 2: rogue and.
- 23:36Speaker 1: They both smoked cigarettes.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Well they ever get along, fantastic movies and obviously like
- 23:42Speaker 2: the birth of romantic comedies on film. But then there
- 23:46Speaker 2: was like a big the same as we're in now.
- 23:48Speaker 2: There was just a big dearth of them until like
- 23:50Speaker 2: mid to late eighties. And there are obviously multiple reasons
- 23:54Speaker 2: for this, But first let's start with how the movie
- 23:56Speaker 2: industry has changed. I believe Matt Damon said it pressy
- 24:00Speaker 2: succintly while choking on spicy chicken on hot ones when
- 24:04Speaker 2: he said the following sentence.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Good good, what a lead in the DVD was.
- 24:10Speaker 2: A big part of our business, our revenue stream, and
- 24:13Speaker 2: technology has just made that obsolete. And so the movies
- 24:16Speaker 2: that we used to make, you could afford to not
- 24:18Speaker 2: make all of your money when it played in the
- 24:20Speaker 2: theater because you knew it had the DVD coming. And
- 24:24Speaker 2: he said that while choking on to Bomb.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Truer words have never been spoken while choking on da Bomb.
- 24:32Speaker 1: It's a good point if you need to make all
- 24:34Speaker 1: of your money at the box office. I didn't go
- 24:36Speaker 1: see movie. I didn't go see rom Coms in the theaters,
- 24:40Speaker 1: but I watched Miscongeniality right back to back to back.
- 24:45Speaker 1: We probably had to replace the DVD. You've brought two
- 24:48Speaker 1: three copies, Yeah, because we just churned. We just were
- 24:53Speaker 1: constantly watching them. And I do think Christmas Movies and
- 24:57Speaker 1: rom Coms is the most DVDs we had.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely, and obviously vhs before that Chess goes
- 25:04Speaker 2: it goes back to the late eighties, like absolutely, home
- 25:07Speaker 2: media was a whole of the wave of revenue to
- 25:12Speaker 2: justify making a lot of genre based movies. So yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 2: pretty much That's why we're in a position now where
- 25:19Speaker 2: anything that isn't a grounded franchise or ip features a
- 25:23Speaker 2: famous director, or has any other bankable quality, just purely
- 25:28Speaker 2: in theaters is kind of unlikely to get made. Like,
- 25:32Speaker 2: we make fun of a lot of the straight to
- 25:33Speaker 2: streaming movies and most of them turn out to be bad.
- 25:36Speaker 2: But those are the kind of movies that would get
- 25:40Speaker 2: theatrical and then get profits on DVDs and would become classics.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that we love.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Because home media just we've only got twenty DVDs. Let's
- 25:51Speaker 2: watch them on repeat.
- 25:52Speaker 1: What else are you gonna do?
- 25:55Speaker 2: Okay? Well, the second reason, and I think this is
- 25:57Speaker 2: the most important reason, is the influence of both second
- 26:00Speaker 2: and third wave feminism on our culture at the time.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Ooh, you are speaking my language, like, absolutely, lay this
- 26:08Speaker 1: on me, all.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Right, I will do. Films are stories, yeah, and stories
- 26:12Speaker 2: are about characters, supposedly allegedly and in a typical heteronormative romcom,
- 26:20Speaker 2: especially in what we're talking about as the Golden Age. Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 2: a woman often needs to be the main character or
- 26:27Speaker 2: co main character of that story.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 2: However, between about the nineteen fifties and nineteen eighties, audiences
- 26:34Speaker 2: weren't really interested in stories about women. What do you know,
- 26:40Speaker 2: who would have thought that between those decades the majority
- 26:47Speaker 2: of people honestly still aren't. Yeah really, but that's due
- 26:52Speaker 2: to still living under a patriarchy and a lot the
- 26:55Speaker 2: subliminal effects of mass consumerism. Just the male interest, the
- 27:00Speaker 2: male gaze is often championed.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It's just the default, the default mode. And so if
- 27:05Speaker 1: you think there's like a subconscious thing of like, oh,
- 27:09Speaker 1: people won't like that movie, but what you're saying is
- 27:11Speaker 1: men won't like that movie.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yeah, especially from the fifties to the eighties, but we
- 27:15Speaker 2: don't have time for this now, don't have time. So
- 27:18Speaker 2: from the late eighties and definitely throughout the nineties, feminism
- 27:22Speaker 2: evolved and introduced the radical idea that women are also
- 27:26Speaker 2: individuals with thoughts, dreams, desires, that sort of thing. If
- 27:31Speaker 2: that sounds ridiculous. First wave feminism was all about women
- 27:35Speaker 2: gaining equal rights as citizens. That's what the fights were
- 27:39Speaker 2: for the same rights as citizens, but in pretty much
- 27:41Speaker 2: every other way they were still viewed as lesser than.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Second wave feminism was all about equal legal rights. That
- 27:48Speaker 2: was getting rights in the workplace, sort of like rov WED,
- 27:52Speaker 2: which obviously now we've baxlid on, but yeah, bodily autonomy,
- 27:55Speaker 2: it's legal rights within the world. And then third wave
- 27:59Speaker 2: feminism was about equal rights within society, which in most
- 28:03Speaker 2: Western countries happens to be individualism. So it's equal rights
- 28:06Speaker 2: under individualism, which.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Feels kind of necessary for one woman to be the
- 28:11Speaker 1: lead of a film, Yes, as like a romantic interest,
- 28:15Speaker 1: because I feel like there's a lot of films where
- 28:17Speaker 1: like the guy gets the girl, but so rarely does
- 28:21Speaker 1: she have, I don't know, a personality. Yeah, and so
- 28:26Speaker 1: having she not only does she have to have a personality,
- 28:30Speaker 1: she just needs to be a full person exactly, a
- 28:32Speaker 1: full human being, treated as a full human being.
- 28:35Speaker 2: And that's what was so revolutionary about them and how
- 28:38Speaker 2: they connected to society at a time. Because we're in
- 28:41Speaker 2: the nineties and there's a call for women to have
- 28:43Speaker 2: their goals and desires fulfilled to the same degree as men.
- 28:46Speaker 2: That's third wave feminism. Hollywood listens to this and follows
- 28:50Speaker 2: the money. The rom com becomes the perfect medium for
- 28:54Speaker 2: echoing this call. In these films, the woman drives the narrative.
- 28:59Speaker 2: She expresses what she wants out of life. She has
- 29:02Speaker 2: a job, and friends and lives in a beautiful apartment
- 29:06Speaker 2: and ah, she's even falling in love. My god, she
- 29:10Speaker 2: can have everything.
- 29:14Speaker 1: We may be seeing a problem.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Well that there's the two arguments of this, right, because
- 29:20Speaker 2: I think that your reaction to that is the contribution
- 29:23Speaker 2: to perhaps romcoms decline because gen X and millennial women
- 29:27Speaker 2: buy into this myth and then kind of realize, oh shit,
- 29:30Speaker 2: we're now trapped with the white men on the same
- 29:33Speaker 2: floor of capitalism. So it was a good thing in
- 29:35Speaker 2: terms of gaining more equity under the current system, but
- 29:39Speaker 2: ultimately it kind of didn't fix all of the problems
- 29:43Speaker 2: that it promised it would.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the kind of thing that I see and the
- 29:48Speaker 1: reason I recoil is because none of the previous expectations leave.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yes, when those doors open, exactly, and so you're.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Still expected subconsciously to do everything else, but now you
- 30:00Speaker 1: have to do everything a man's doing, yep, and everything
- 30:03Speaker 1: you were doing.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Which Barbie tapped into really well as a recent pop
- 30:07Speaker 2: culture example, very much so, and just like rom coms
- 30:12Speaker 2: mainly for white women. So because of this, let's focus
- 30:16Speaker 2: on the positive side. Let's focus on the part of
- 30:19Speaker 2: rom coms that gave more equity to women in society
- 30:22Speaker 2: because it was mirroring their own desires and aspirations. It's
- 30:26Speaker 2: often why rom coms are cited by audiences as aspirational,
- 30:30Speaker 2: inspirational and pick me up movies. That kind of like,
- 30:34Speaker 2: if you're having a bad week, watch a bunch of
- 30:37Speaker 2: rom coms and feel better.
- 30:38Speaker 1: You can always watch a rom com.
- 30:40Speaker 2: So that might seem like cheesy now, and the a
- 30:43Speaker 2: lot of the plots might seem cheesy now, but at
- 30:45Speaker 2: the time they were moving the culture forward, teaching women,
- 30:49Speaker 2: some genuinely for the first time, that they have equal
- 30:53Speaker 2: say in the direction of a relationship.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Would even now we need reminded, oh, absolutely so much
- 31:01Speaker 1: so that your opinion matters. Your opinion matters in your relationships,
- 31:05Speaker 1: what you want matters outside of your relationships.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Yeah. So that's also why most of the interesting rom
- 31:12Speaker 2: coms in the last fifteen years have either been queer
- 31:15Speaker 2: stories or stories from minority ethnic groups, because they mirror
- 31:19Speaker 2: that sense of cathartic freedom we felt during the Golden Age,
- 31:23Speaker 2: where we're seeing people who are allowed to show and
- 31:26Speaker 2: express love, aims, goals, and desires for the first time
- 31:31Speaker 2: in media. But because of those things, Matt Damon said,
- 31:34Speaker 2: while stuffing his mouth with chicken, and also rising prejudice
- 31:38Speaker 2: in the world. That's why we don't have as many
- 31:40Speaker 2: It makes sense.
- 31:42Speaker 1: There is this general thing in capitalism where it's follow
- 31:45Speaker 1: the money. Yeah, and due to circumstances hmm.
- 31:49Speaker 2: All of the white people have all of the money,
- 31:52Speaker 2: and so unless they suddenly find love again and understand
- 31:56Speaker 2: concepts like love, they're not going to be interested in
- 31:59Speaker 2: funneling money into rom coms. I say that as a
- 32:02Speaker 2: white person in love. Same look there. There are so
- 32:09Speaker 2: many more reasons why this was the Golden Age. Culture
- 32:12Speaker 2: is infinite, it's multi textual, it's a living, breathing concept.
- 32:19Speaker 2: But a final third reason that I will say that
- 32:23Speaker 2: we don't live in the rom com Golden Age anymore
- 32:27Speaker 2: is because we don't have Nora Efron. Yes, like her
- 32:31Speaker 2: voice mirrored the truth of love, connection, togetherness, and the
- 32:34Speaker 2: complexities of interconnected emotion that we find within ourselves. She
- 32:38Speaker 2: put a voice to that. I imagine if we had another
- 32:42Speaker 2: Nora Efron who could kickstart a voice that matches a
- 32:45Speaker 2: new generation's experience of love, then we'd probably get a
- 32:49Speaker 2: wave of people inspired by that new muse. Whoever that
- 32:53Speaker 2: would be. But currently I don't think that voice is
- 32:57Speaker 2: in the culture, and Nora Efron isn't here anymore, or
- 33:00Speaker 2: and neither is David Lynch. And there are probably hard
- 33:03Speaker 2: times ahead, but love will blossom in the autumn of
- 33:07Speaker 2: it all. I believe that that's so beautiful.
- 33:10Speaker 1: To end with.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I felt like I had to end on a loving
- 33:13Speaker 2: note because this was a rom com section. Yes, but
- 33:16Speaker 2: so the reason that got a bit deep and heavy
- 33:18Speaker 2: is because when I was like looking at the matching
- 33:21Speaker 2: the timeline of rom com releases to both second and
- 33:24Speaker 2: third wave feminism, I realized how many of the goals
- 33:28Speaker 2: and like the achievements of both of those movements have
- 33:32Speaker 2: now been completely rolled back.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Honestly, we should have known the political climate based on
- 33:39Speaker 1: how well received rom coms. Yes, we should have known
- 33:43Speaker 1: that we were in for some shit when rom coms
- 33:47Speaker 1: went out of fashion.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Yep, that's and that's a good conclusion to end on.
- 33:51Speaker 1: I think, Yep, that was beautiful and so deep and
- 33:57Speaker 1: so wonderful and beautiful and oh my god, we need
- 34:01Speaker 1: to play a game.
- 34:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that was was It was heavy.
- 34:03Speaker 1: It was a long We need to play a very
- 34:06Speaker 1: fun game with our good friend Aaron Randolph one nil, oh,
- 34:12Speaker 1: shaking my fist at you and I But okay, I
- 34:15Speaker 1: know you want this to be the lead in.
- 34:17Speaker 2: But my favorite thing this recording has been you making
- 34:20Speaker 2: the noise and then saying the word so you gone,
- 34:23Speaker 2: oh gasp. But that has only been topped by er
- 34:29Speaker 2: shaking my fist in anger. Now that's the.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Leading watch out for my villain era.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Don't mess with the games master, Captain power up. I'm
- 34:41Speaker 2: going to score all the points.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Passing knowledge was enough.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to your doom.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I just hope we have a lot of fun.
- 34:50Speaker 2: And ignore this sentence. If you're a goddamn loser.
- 34:53Speaker 1: You're going down. I want to fight, and now it
- 35:00Speaker 1: is time for our second ever Matt versus Odra.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, well of the calls, I don't I.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Don't remember, you know. I think it's just important that
- 35:09Speaker 1: we have a good time.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Okay, that that is important, But also one nail.
- 35:16Speaker 1: So we cannot do this game alone. We are joined
- 35:19Speaker 1: by Aaron Randolph of bfytw and he has made a
- 35:23Speaker 1: game for us.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Yeah, Aaron, absolutely have do you guys just want to
- 35:26Speaker 3: get straight into it?
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah, let's do this.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Oh some music.
- 35:32Speaker 3: Matt is a games master and podcaster with one game
- 35:36Speaker 3: under his belt. Audre works in stem and she's looking
- 35:40Speaker 3: to make a comeback. Matt is the Champion, Audra is
- 35:45Speaker 3: the Challenger, and your host pantsil seran yay.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I loved that the music is incredible. It's just the
- 35:57Speaker 1: whole time I did feel like words were coming up
- 35:59Speaker 1: under It was like zig zags and stuff on the
- 36:02Speaker 1: screen to be like, she's not going down without a fight.
- 36:09Speaker 1: It is so good.
- 36:10Speaker 3: All right. So we are playing The Challengers, a game
- 36:13Speaker 3: from nineteen ninety nineteen ninety one hosted by Dick Clark
- 36:16Speaker 3: and Dick Clark Productions. We're doing our own legally distinct
- 36:20Speaker 3: take off on an of course, it was slightly adapted
- 36:23Speaker 3: rules for a two player game because this is technically
- 36:26Speaker 3: a three player game. So you'll notice there's three podiums
- 36:29Speaker 3: up there. We have aw Drop, Matt, and ALI, which
- 36:32Speaker 3: is short for Artificial lack of Intelligence.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Could have just called that AI, you know.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Well, with the current stated sure, but I just wanted
- 36:45Speaker 3: to really get it.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Across for futurelessness.
- 36:49Speaker 3: So basically Ali is gonna act as a placeholder, but
- 36:51Speaker 3: it's going to be the two of you versus each other.
- 36:53Speaker 3: But I wanted Ali still to take part in the
- 36:55Speaker 3: game for a very good reason. We're gonna play two
- 36:59Speaker 3: rounds of cat. There's gonna be six categories on the board.
- 37:02Speaker 3: You're going to take turns choosing categories, and behind each
- 37:04Speaker 3: category are three questions. The lowest value question is worth
- 37:09Speaker 3: one hundred points, and it goes up to one fifty
- 37:11Speaker 3: and then two hundred points. Now, the lower value questions
- 37:14Speaker 3: are easier, higher value questions are harder. So bear that
- 37:17Speaker 3: in mind. And every time you're gonna pick a question
- 37:21Speaker 3: that is technically a wager, you are wagering that you
- 37:23Speaker 3: are going to get it right. If you are the
- 37:26Speaker 3: only person to take that category, you will answer it alone.
- 37:29Speaker 3: You must answer, and if you get it right, you
- 37:31Speaker 3: add that to your score. If you get it wrong,
- 37:33Speaker 3: you lose it. Obvious. If the two of you pick
- 37:36Speaker 3: the same category, then I will ask the same question
- 37:40Speaker 3: to both of you at the same time. And that's
- 37:41Speaker 3: where the buzzers come into play. I'll need you to
- 37:43Speaker 3: buzz in and take a shot at it. If you're
- 37:46Speaker 3: not the person who buzzes in, you don't lose anything
- 37:48Speaker 3: unless you Unless the person who buzzed in gets it wrong,
- 37:52Speaker 3: then the person who did not buzz in has the
- 37:54Speaker 3: choice of whether they want to proceed and try the question,
- 37:57Speaker 3: or they can just let it go. No harm, no foul, okay,
- 38:01Speaker 3: but of course if you buzz you must answer just
- 38:03Speaker 3: like any other wager. And finally, Ali is also Ali
- 38:09Speaker 3: is going to be choosing categories at the same time,
- 38:12Speaker 3: so something special might happen if all three of you
- 38:15Speaker 3: pick the same category. Ali has already been programmed to
- 38:19Speaker 3: pick twelve categories from the start of the game, so
- 38:23Speaker 3: I know what order they're going to pick in, but
- 38:24Speaker 3: it's going to be completely random, so you don't know
- 38:27Speaker 3: whether the three of you will pick the same category
- 38:29Speaker 3: or not. If it happens, I'll explain what happens when
- 38:32Speaker 3: we get there. For now, let's talk about round one categories,
- 38:36Speaker 3: and they are speech quotes Batman, the twenty twenty five
- 38:41Speaker 3: Golden Globes, metal rockers not playing with their bands, Sonic
- 38:46Speaker 3: the Hedgehog and WrestleMania, and Audra. As you well lost
- 38:53Speaker 3: the last game. I didn't want to immediately bring it up,
- 38:55Speaker 3: but here we go. Bring it up, Aaron, Brenda. You
- 38:59Speaker 3: get the first categories, where do you want to start.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Oh, this is a tough one because my thought is
- 39:05Speaker 1: I would take something that I think Matt will definitely know,
- 39:08Speaker 1: which is Rustlemania, so that he can't have it.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Well, you're you're both going to be picking a question
- 39:13Speaker 3: from each category.
- 39:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's fair.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Well that's like me.
- 39:20Speaker 3: We are eventually going to do all six.
- 39:23Speaker 1: So yes, okay, okay, Batman.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Batman it is, and we're talking about Batman in movies, television,
- 39:31Speaker 3: and comic books. When you're ready, text me or wager
- 39:36Speaker 3: now and I'll lock you in. It's fine, what a
- 39:43Speaker 3: great response.
- 39:44Speaker 2: It's definitely going to be the choosing the wage to
- 39:47Speaker 2: the ultirable struggle with mold than the questions themselves.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I think yes, because that's always the crux of it is.
- 39:52Speaker 1: It depends on the movie, it depends on the television,
- 39:54Speaker 1: it depends on the comic books.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so here are the wagers. U Ali automatically
- 40:01Speaker 3: gets whatever they choose wrong. They chose one hundred dollars
- 40:03Speaker 3: question in the movie.
- 40:04Speaker 2: So sorry, sorry, Alie, Sorry Alie, sorry about it.
- 40:08Speaker 3: But the two of you are gonna need to buzz in.
- 40:09Speaker 3: You're both gonna get this question about Batman in television
- 40:12Speaker 3: the first one. Buzz In gets a crack at it.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Adam West played Batman on television from nineteen sixty six
- 40:18Speaker 3: to nineteen sixty eight. What actor played Robin alongside him?
- 40:23Speaker 3: Matt buzzes in.
- 40:25Speaker 2: I don't know what it is, but I'm gonna say
- 40:28Speaker 2: he was another Dick, just like Dick Grayson. So I'm
- 40:30Speaker 2: gonna say Dick Charleston.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Dick Charleston is incorrect. So tracked one hundred and fifty
- 40:36Speaker 3: from your total US down to fifty. I started everyone
- 40:39Speaker 3: off with two hundred points.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Just oh, how generous.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Yeah, you're welcome, Audre. You may still attempt this question
- 40:46Speaker 3: if you like, but you don't have to. You can
- 40:48Speaker 3: just let it go. If you don't know the answer.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I am gonna. I am gonna let it go. But
- 40:53Speaker 1: it's not that's that's fair part this time.
- 40:57Speaker 3: If it's not working, it's not working. All right, Let's
- 40:59Speaker 3: clear the wall and let's go back to the categories. Okay,
- 41:02Speaker 3: Matt got it wrong, So Oudra, I'm gonna give you
- 41:05Speaker 3: the choice again, which one of these five categories would
- 41:07Speaker 3: you like? Next?
- 41:08Speaker 1: Let's go WrestleMania.
- 41:10Speaker 3: WrestleMania is and we have WrestleMania one for one hundred points,
- 41:16Speaker 3: WrestleMania thirty for one hundred and fifty points, WrestleMania twelve
- 41:20Speaker 3: for two hundred points. All right, so here's here's our wagers.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Matt and Order both went for the WrestleMania thirty question. Yes, okay,
- 41:30Speaker 3: I'm gonna reset the buzzers. The Undertaker had an incredible
- 41:33Speaker 3: winning streak at WrestleMania, having won twenty one victories without
- 41:37Speaker 3: ever being beaten at the event until WrestleMania thirty, when
- 41:40Speaker 3: he was finally defeated by what wrestler Matt's in first,
- 41:45Speaker 3: brock Lesna rock Lesner is right, Yes, Matt goes back
- 41:51Speaker 3: to two hundred.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Clear, everybody going for Wressemania seven. I can't even remember
- 41:57Speaker 2: which one WrestleMania seven.
- 41:59Speaker 3: Twelve, twelve, yeah.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Twelve, Yeah, I can't even remember which one WrestleMania at twelve.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Ays all right, Well, so sadly we won't get to
- 42:08Speaker 3: that question. So well, remember, we're gonna go back to
- 42:12Speaker 3: the categories. Met You have the choice of these four
- 42:14Speaker 3: remaining speech quotes twenty twenty five Golden Globes, metal rockers
- 42:18Speaker 3: not playing with their bands, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Let's go with the twenty twenty five Golden Globes.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Golden Globes it is, and we have best Craft Services,
- 42:27Speaker 3: Best Performance by a Male Actor in a TV series Drama,
- 42:30Speaker 3: and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a movie drama.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Place your wagers now.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Oh interesting? What's craft services again?
- 42:41Speaker 1: Crafty the food table or feeding people on set?
- 42:46Speaker 2: Did they do an award for that?
- 42:48Speaker 1: I don't know, I guess.
- 42:48Speaker 3: So everybody gets their own question except Ali, of course,
- 42:52Speaker 3: who gets nothing into the negative to minus two fifty
- 42:57Speaker 3: At this point, Oder, we're gonna start with you because
- 43:00Speaker 3: you took the lower wager for one hundred points Best
- 43:03Speaker 3: Craft Services. Colin Farrell memorably and correctly thanked Carolina from
- 43:08Speaker 3: Craft Services for keeping him and the crow go going
- 43:11Speaker 3: during production for a hundred points. What show was he
- 43:14Speaker 3: accepting an award for his performance in?
- 43:17Speaker 1: I wish I could tell you one thing that man
- 43:19Speaker 1: did besides thank the right people.
- 43:24Speaker 3: Take a shot.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Ah, Friends, I'm afraid it was not Friends.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Audra, you lose one hundred points. It was the Penguin.
- 43:37Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Penguins, Yeah I do. Matt, you took the
- 43:46Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty point wager for best performance by
- 43:49Speaker 3: a male actor on a TV.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Yeah, but I was hoping it would be about Colin Farrell, thays.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Well, best of luck. Hiro Yuki Sonata made history by
- 43:59Speaker 3: becoming the second Asian actor to win this Golden Globe
- 44:03Speaker 3: for what FX series.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I believe that was Shogun.
- 44:08Speaker 3: You believe right? That is absolutely correct. Matt goes up
- 44:12Speaker 3: to three fifty, Otter is at one hundred, and Alley's
- 44:15Speaker 3: at minus.
- 44:15Speaker 1: Two to fifty, so I'm not in last place. It
- 44:18Speaker 1: is to win.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Let's go back to the category as Matt, you again
- 44:22Speaker 3: have control. Picked from one of these remaining three.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Let's go speech quote, speech.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Quotes an aerius and the possibilities are for one hundred
- 44:31Speaker 3: points from movies for two for one hundred and fifty
- 44:34Speaker 3: points from Hitler, for two hundred points from Hitler in
- 44:40Speaker 3: movies place Rangers.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Now, my goodness, okay.
- 44:49Speaker 3: All three of you once again choosing your own categories.
- 44:52Speaker 3: Of course, Allie doesn't is not allowed to get any right,
- 44:56Speaker 3: so Ali goes down to minus four hundred. We will
- 44:58Speaker 3: start once again with Audra. Listen carefully please, okay, But.
- 45:04Speaker 4: As the day when the world declared in one voice,
- 45:07Speaker 4: we will not go quietly into the night. We will
- 45:11Speaker 4: not vanish without a fight. We're going to live on.
- 45:17Speaker 4: We're going to survive.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Bill Pullman memorably portrayed President of the United States Thomas J.
- 45:23Speaker 3: Whitmore in this nineteen ninety six film for one hundred points.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Name the film.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I have two films in my head that I cannot
- 45:30Speaker 1: remember which one it is. Of the two, get to
- 45:33Speaker 1: say Independence Day is right?
- 45:38Speaker 3: And yes, young on, I made a booboo.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I mean you could leave it.
- 45:46Speaker 3: I could. I'm not gonna, but I could. We had
- 45:49Speaker 3: one hundred points to your score, bringing you up to
- 45:51Speaker 3: two hundred. Matt, you took the two hundred point wager.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Please listen to this clip. I'm fun o this hell this,
- 46:12Speaker 3: This heavily memed clip is from the two thousand and
- 46:15Speaker 3: four historical war drama film Der Untergun for two hundred points.
- 46:21Speaker 3: What is the movie's common name in English?
- 46:24Speaker 2: Okay? I do think I know this because of the memes?
- 46:28Speaker 2: Uh from way way back? When is it downfall?
- 46:33Speaker 3: It is downfall that gets you two hundred points and
- 46:36Speaker 3: brings you up to five fifty. Well done.
- 46:39Speaker 1: That's good ship, Matt.
- 46:43Speaker 3: There's only two categories left. In this round, which one
- 46:45Speaker 3: do you want to tackle first?
- 46:47Speaker 2: Hmmm, I like metal Rocke is not playing with the bands.
- 46:50Speaker 3: As you should. Uh, and that is going to give
- 46:54Speaker 3: us for one hundred points. Slayers Carrie King, Megadeth's Dave
- 46:58Speaker 3: Mustage for one hundred and fifty, Metallica's Lars Ulrich for
- 47:02Speaker 3: two hundred. Place your wagers.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Now, there's an argument to be made that I should
- 47:08Speaker 1: just go for it, you know, I should just go big.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I didn't though. No.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Once again, everybody's getting their own question, except of course,
- 47:18Speaker 3: for Allie, who gets nothing. Sorry Allie. Elli goes down
- 47:22Speaker 3: to five point fifty.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Wow, Allie, come on, get good at this game.
- 47:26Speaker 3: Odra, on the other hand, for one hundred points. On
- 47:29Speaker 3: this question about metal rockers not playing with their bands,
- 47:33Speaker 3: Rick Rubin called Carrie King to lay down the metal
- 47:36Speaker 3: solo for the hip hop rack rock song No Sleep
- 47:39Speaker 3: Till Brooklyn, which would go on to be a hit
- 47:42Speaker 3: single for what group.
- 47:44Speaker 1: I'm humiliating myself at every time?
- 47:46Speaker 2: Oh no, some improv knowledge could help you with this one.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Okay, we'll go the Beastie Boys because of Beastie rap.
- 47:57Speaker 3: And that's right.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Thank you, Matt. Your pity has saved me.
- 48:06Speaker 2: They spend the same, right, I'll spend the same, all right.
- 48:10Speaker 3: That just leaves Matt and his two hundred point wager
- 48:13Speaker 3: on Metallica's Lars Ulrich. Matt after Metallica. Lars Ulrich is
- 48:17Speaker 3: probably most famous for going after Napster, but he did
- 48:20Speaker 3: appear in a brief cameo as himself in What twenty
- 48:24Speaker 3: ten comedy film starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand that
- 48:29Speaker 3: serves as a spin off sequel to two thousand and
- 48:31Speaker 3: eights Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Yeah, this is uh get him to the Greek I
- 48:40Speaker 2: didn't know laws Elrich was in it, but.
- 48:42Speaker 3: As it happens, he is. And you're right.
- 48:44Speaker 1: For another I should have gone Bates.
- 48:47Speaker 3: Go alright, So there is just the one category left,
- 48:53Speaker 3: and that's Sonic the Hedgehog. The questions here are about
- 48:58Speaker 3: foes for one hundred, rivals for one fifty, and friends
- 49:01Speaker 3: for two hundred. Place your wagers now, all right. So
- 49:05Speaker 3: Matt and Ali would be fighting over the rivals question,
- 49:08Speaker 3: except Ali Ali isn't real and doesn't get a shot
- 49:13Speaker 3: at it. So Matt instead, this is your question on
- 49:16Speaker 3: rivals for one hundred and fifty points Matt Keanu Reeves
- 49:20Speaker 3: was tapped to play a blackfurd anthropomorphic hedgehog in the
- 49:24Speaker 3: movie Sonic the Hedgehog three. What is this new hedgehog's name?
- 49:28Speaker 2: That is Shadow the Hedgehog.
- 49:30Speaker 3: It is Shadow the Hedgehog, bringing you to nine hundred, Audre,
- 49:34Speaker 3: you went for the two hundred point question of y friends.
- 49:38Speaker 3: Audra Tails is a fox with two tales who first
- 49:41Speaker 3: appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog two, serving as both the
- 49:44Speaker 3: second playable character and capable pilot to assist Sonic. What
- 49:48Speaker 3: is his actual first and last name?
- 49:51Speaker 1: Is he the one that's Miles Prour?
- 49:55Speaker 3: He is the one who's that's two hundred points, Oudra.
- 49:59Speaker 3: And at the end of round one, Ali is in
- 50:01Speaker 3: last place with minus five hundred and fifty. Audra's hanging
- 50:05Speaker 3: in there with five hundred and Matt has currently in
- 50:08Speaker 3: lead with nine hundred points. But round two is coming up.
- 50:11Speaker 3: We're gonna double the values as so anything could happen
- 50:15Speaker 3: and let's begin right. So here are the set of
- 50:21Speaker 3: new categories for round two, and they are Christmas movies,
- 50:26Speaker 3: Super Mario Brothers not playing in their games, Taylor Swift, Marijuana,
- 50:32Speaker 3: Scott Bakula, and twenty first century literature. Okay, and Audrey,
- 50:39Speaker 3: you got the hardest question right there, So you're gonna
- 50:41Speaker 3: get the first choice of these categories. Where do you
- 50:44Speaker 3: want to begin?
- 50:45Speaker 1: Let's start with Christmas movies.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Let's start with Christmas movies, and that's gonna bring us
- 50:50Speaker 3: for two hundred points, Jingle all the way for three
- 50:53Speaker 3: hundred points, the Santa Claus, and for four hundred, Elf,
- 50:57Speaker 3: place your wagers now, remember they get harder, the.
- 50:59Speaker 2: High the value as his tradition.
- 51:02Speaker 3: As is tradition, everybody picked their own category. But of
- 51:05Speaker 3: course Allie isn't allowed to win, So there we go.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Ellie's sitting in a cool minus seven hundred and fifty
- 51:13Speaker 3: for the weak.
- 51:13Speaker 2: We're both so much better than Ally, Matt.
- 51:17Speaker 3: Here is your question for three hundred points on the
- 51:21Speaker 3: Santa Claus. When Scott Calvin accidentally startles Santa Claus, causing
- 51:26Speaker 3: him to fall off the roof, his body vanishes, leaving
- 51:30Speaker 3: behind the suit and a card that says to put
- 51:33Speaker 3: on the suit? Who or what does the card then say?
- 51:37Speaker 3: Will know what to do?
- 51:40Speaker 2: Oh? The only thing I've got in my head is
- 51:43Speaker 2: the is Banard's the head to Elf, so I'm gonna
- 51:45Speaker 2: say Banard.
- 51:47Speaker 3: Bernard is incorrect. I'm afraid it's going to bring you
- 51:51Speaker 3: down to six hundred. It was actually the reindeer. The reindeer, Yeah,
- 51:56Speaker 3: what to do? Of course it's the right, all right?
- 52:00Speaker 3: What is your chance to take the lead? For four
- 52:01Speaker 3: hundred points on elf? Andre Will Ferrell plays Buddy the Elf,
- 52:06Speaker 3: who mentions that elves try to stick to what he
- 52:08Speaker 3: calls the four main food groups, which are candy, candy canes,
- 52:13Speaker 3: candy corns, and for four hundred points, what is the
- 52:17Speaker 3: final food group?
- 52:18Speaker 1: He mentions syrup.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Is right for four hundred points.
- 52:25Speaker 2: I'd ser trivia about Christmas movies in January feels so
- 52:28Speaker 2: way it.
- 52:30Speaker 1: I'm just starting to hit my stride.
- 52:33Speaker 3: So well, Andre, you've taken the lead, and you answered
- 52:35Speaker 3: the hardest question. So you take control. Which of these
- 52:38Speaker 3: five remaining categories do you want to try?
- 52:41Speaker 1: Let go twenty first century literature?
- 52:44Speaker 3: Twenty first century literature it is, and your choices are
- 52:48Speaker 3: Suzanne Collins for two hundred, Juno Das for three hundred,
- 52:52Speaker 3: and Pierce Brown for four hundred. Place your wagers. Now, wow, okay,
- 52:59Speaker 3: hopefully those mean something to you, but remember they do
- 53:04Speaker 3: escalate in difficulty.
- 53:06Speaker 1: So HM going a little safe on this one. But
- 53:09Speaker 1: I do know the most about the one that I picked,
- 53:12Speaker 1: like pretty notably.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Oh, I thought we were gonna get three of a
- 53:16Speaker 3: kind there, but no close but no cigar, Ali does.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Allie does not get a question, so Allie automatically loses. However,
- 53:24Speaker 3: instead we are going to turn to the two of
- 53:26Speaker 3: you who both picked Suzanne Collins. So I will need
- 53:29Speaker 3: you to get ready to buzz ouder up. Matt's here
- 53:33Speaker 3: is your question on twenty first century literature and Suzanne Collins.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Susanne Collins wrote a popular dystopian trilogy set in the
- 53:41Speaker 3: fictional North American country of pan m For two hundred points,
- 53:45Speaker 3: what is the name of this series? Otder was in first.
- 53:52Speaker 1: The Hunger Games.
- 53:53Speaker 3: The Hunger Games is right for two hundred points, Matt,
- 53:58Speaker 3: no harm, no foul audre, just stole that one from me.
- 54:02Speaker 2: Faster on the buzzer.
- 54:04Speaker 3: All right, So let's go back to the wall, and
- 54:07Speaker 3: the remaining category is odder. You are still in control.
- 54:10Speaker 3: You can have super Mario brothers not playing in their games.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Taylor Swift, Marijuana or Scott Bakula.
- 54:16Speaker 1: You know, let's go Taylor Swift we'll see what I've
- 54:18Speaker 1: absorbed via osmosis.
- 54:20Speaker 3: Taylor Swift it is, And here are your questions on
- 54:24Speaker 3: music for two hundred, relationships for three hundred, and acting
- 54:27Speaker 3: for four hundred.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Oh oh it's risk Oh it's risky.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Is it?
- 54:35Speaker 2: It's a risky one?
- 54:36Speaker 1: Oh my, it kind of spoils it if I say ooh,
- 54:39Speaker 1: it's risky. Okay, unless I'm double bluffing.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Oh you went, I wasn't.
- 54:47Speaker 3: And once again, all three of you have chosen a
- 54:49Speaker 3: different value, so Ali will lose theirs off they go
- 54:54Speaker 3: Matt for three hundred dollars. If three hundred points, excuse
- 54:58Speaker 3: me on Taylor Swift. We don't have that much money, Matt.
- 55:02Speaker 3: Taylor's had her fair share of high profile relationships, but
- 55:05Speaker 3: she's currently seeing Travis Kelcey a tight end for what
- 55:08Speaker 3: professional football team.
- 55:10Speaker 2: That would be? The Kansas City Chiefs it would be?
- 55:13Speaker 3: And that's three hundred points to you. You're at nine hundred. Oudra,
- 55:16Speaker 3: who is at eleven hundred and has wagered four hundred
- 55:19Speaker 3: on Taylor Swift's acting, Here is your question for four
- 55:23Speaker 3: hundred points, Oudra. One of her most notable performances comes
- 55:27Speaker 3: from a twenty fourteen dystopian drama film where memories of
- 55:31Speaker 3: the past are held by a single person, and they
- 55:34Speaker 3: and the protege they plan to pass those memories onto
- 55:38Speaker 3: are also the only ones who can see in color.
- 55:42Speaker 3: For four hundred points named the film the Giver is
- 55:47Speaker 3: right for four hundred points.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Nice.
- 55:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest, I forgot she was in that movie,
- 55:53Speaker 1: but I have read that book so many times.
- 55:58Speaker 3: Well done, well done. All right, So let's go back
- 56:01Speaker 3: to the categories, and Audrey, your remaining choices are super
- 56:05Speaker 3: Mario brothers not playing in their games, marijuana, and Scott Bacula.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Let's go marijuana.
- 56:11Speaker 3: Marijuana it is. And the questions are marijuana in movies,
- 56:16Speaker 3: in video games, or in your body? Place your wages? Now,
- 56:22Speaker 3: what are you feeling?
- 56:23Speaker 2: I gotta try and catch up here?
- 56:25Speaker 3: All right, let's reveal how you wagered. It's all three
- 56:29Speaker 3: of you picked in your body. So we double the
- 56:33Speaker 3: value of each question, and the person who successfully answers
- 56:39Speaker 3: this question will have a chance to tackle the other
- 56:41Speaker 3: two if they wish, and in any order they like. Wow,
- 56:46Speaker 3: the first thing I'm gonna do is we're gonna take
- 56:48Speaker 3: Ali out of the equation. Is just the two of you,
- 56:51Speaker 3: So both of you, if you could be ready to buzz.
- 56:55Speaker 3: Here is your question on marijuana now for eight hundred
- 56:59Speaker 3: points THHC. The psychoactive component of marijuana is detectable for
- 57:07Speaker 3: up to a day in your saliva, up to a
- 57:09Speaker 3: month in your urine, but up to ninety days in
- 57:13Speaker 3: what ouder was just in first? Audi?
- 57:17Speaker 1: Fifty three milliseconds? Is what it? Or microsecond? Now I'm
- 57:22Speaker 1: gonna say hair.
- 57:25Speaker 3: Hair is right, and Audra has taken a commanding lead.
- 57:31Speaker 3: All right, Audre, here's the good news. You can tackle
- 57:34Speaker 3: these other two if you wish. You don't have to.
- 57:38Speaker 3: But every time you tackle one, you are wagering again,
- 57:41Speaker 3: so you will lose it if you get it wrong.
- 57:43Speaker 3: Would you like to try in movies or in video games?
- 57:46Speaker 3: For four hundred or six hundred points respectively.
- 57:49Speaker 1: I'll try. I want to because I want to know
- 57:54Speaker 1: what the questions are. Let's go in video games.
- 57:56Speaker 3: In video games for six hundred, Audra. In the third
- 58:00Speaker 3: number game in this long running series, one mission has you,
- 58:03Speaker 3: as Jason Brody, torch several marijuana fields with a flamethrower,
- 58:09Speaker 3: all while make It Bundem, a reggae step song plays
- 58:13Speaker 3: for six hundred points. Can you name the series.
- 58:16Speaker 1: It's gonna be Borderlands.
- 58:19Speaker 3: Is incorrect, I'm afraid cool, So we take the six
- 58:23Speaker 3: hundred away. You've still made a positive, I have you.
- 58:26Speaker 3: You've got two hundred points to the positive. Matt, any
- 58:30Speaker 3: chance you could tell me? No points available? But can
- 58:32Speaker 3: you tell me what it was? Was it theft Ato? No? Actually,
- 58:35Speaker 3: oh it was it was Far Cry? Oh yeah, Far
- 58:40Speaker 3: Cry three. And we're not gonna get to the movies' questions,
- 58:44Speaker 3: so we're just gonna clear the wall. Despite missing that question,
- 58:48Speaker 3: you are still in control. So would you like super
- 58:50Speaker 3: Mario brothers not playing in their games? Or Scott Bakula.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Let's in honor of press play, we'll go super Mario Brothers.
- 58:58Speaker 3: Okay, super Mario Brothers not playing in their games?
- 59:02Speaker 2: Hope, this is about Luigi.
- 59:03Speaker 3: Questions are about the nineteen ninety three movie, the TV show,
- 59:08Speaker 3: and the serial. So place your wagers now. Okay. So
- 59:15Speaker 3: Ali and Audre went for the TV show for three hundred.
- 59:18Speaker 3: Ali doesn't get that, so out you go. Ali and
- 59:21Speaker 3: Matt went for the four hundred point question on the serial.
- 59:24Speaker 3: So Audre, this question is for you alone. On the
- 59:27Speaker 3: TV show The Super Mario Brothers Super Show featured both
- 59:31Speaker 3: live action and animated segments. What late wrestler played the
- 59:36Speaker 3: part of Mario during live action and voiced him in
- 59:39Speaker 3: the cartoons.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Oh, I have no idea, but it'd be really fun
- 59:46Speaker 1: if it was mc foley.
- 59:51Speaker 3: It would It would be really fun if it was mcfoley.
- 59:54Speaker 3: Sadly it is not mcfoley, so I have to take
- 59:56Speaker 3: theodred points away from you. That's reasonable, is Captain lu Albano?
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just imagining Mario getting tossed off the hell.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: In s l. I'm glad you didn't stop that sentence earlier. Matt.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: Here is your four hundred point question on the Cereal.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: Ralston Cereals produced a cereal box with two bags inside,
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: one for Super Mario Brothers featuring fruity flavored mushrooms, koopas
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: and bowsers, and one for Zelda featuring very flavored hearts, keys,
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: and shields. What was the three word name for this product?
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Okay, this is not of my culture. I chose this
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: because I wanted to get points, but I realized now
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: I'm going to lose those points, so we're gonna say
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: they are Nintendo Lucky Choms.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: I mean, believe it or not, you were on the
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: right track. It was the Nintendo Cereal System.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Oh that's good, that's Cleva.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: Unfortunately, Matt, that you lose four hundred. You are down
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: to five hundred. Let's get to our last category, shall we.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: It was the one everybody's before. It's Scott Bagula and
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: here are the questions on for two hundred points, Quantum
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: Leap for three hundred points, Star Trek Enterprise, and for
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: four hundred points ncis New Orleans. Send me your wagers,
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: so once again Ali can't take part, so Ali will
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: stay off of your question, Audra on Star Trek Enterprise,
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: and here it is for three hundred points. This show
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: follows the adventures of the crew of the first starship
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: Enterprise designation NX zero one. Scott plays the captain of
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: the ship. For three hundred points. Can you tell me
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: his last name?
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: No, sir, I cannot because it's not Kirk or Picard.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: So it's probably it's probably Smith.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: It's Smith.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: It's it's not Smith. I'm sorry you lose three hundred
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: points there, but you're very much still in it, Matt,
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: to catch up. To make up some space. Here you
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: desperately need this before we go to the final round.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: Here's your question for four hundred points on NCIS New Orleans.
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: Matt yep Bacula's NCIS Supervisory special Agent Dwayne Pride is
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: often referred to by his nickname one he was given
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: after making the drug bust of the Century. For four
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: hundred points. What is that nickname, big Panky? I love it,
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: It's sadly wrong, So I have to take four hundred
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: points off of you. And at the end of round two, well,
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: things have gone pretty well for Auder, but not so
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: much for Matt.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Oh how the tables have turned.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Alli Ali is sitting less than pretty at negative thirteen
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: fifty and will not be taking place in the final challenge.
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: Matt is in the positive, so he will be taking part.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: And finally, Oudra has eleven hundred points and a very
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: clear lead. Let's move on to the final challenge, very
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: very quickly. The final challenge, I'm going to give you
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: one more category. It will again have three possible choices
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: of questions. The questions now have an odds multiplier, so
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: if you tackle the easiest question, it will be for
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: even odds and whatever you wager you will get back
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: if you get it right. The second hardest question is
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: worth a double, so you will get double your wager
- 1:03:40Speaker 3: if you get it right. And the third and final
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: hardest question is worth triple odds and is worth triple
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: your wager if you get it right. So, having said that,
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: let's reveal our final round category Gate Leapers twenty twenty
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: four fandoms.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Okay, things we definitely should know, we'll see definitely should know.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: For even money, you can wager on PlayStation two. For
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: double money, you can wager on Back to the Future.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: For triple money, you can wager on Percy Jackson and
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: Greek mythology. Now this time, I'd like you to send
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: me your wagers, including how much of your steak you
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: would like to wager. You obviously can't wager more than
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: you have, and tell me whether you'd like to wager
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: that on the even category, the double, or the triple.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna give you fifteen seconds to think it over.
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: Your time starts now, all right.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I don't know why I made the choices that I made.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: Well have you done?
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: What have you done? Matt? You had the lowest amount
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: available at the time, not the word not all still
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: proud of you. That's good, you know, I'm just trying
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: to be helpful here.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Yeah. I tried to borrow points from Ali, but they
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: not even less.
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: No, yeah, they don't have any to give. How much
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: did you wage on which question?
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: I waged all one hundred of my dollars to try
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: and triple my money to give myself a chance. Waitka, Thus, Jackson.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: And Odra, can you reveal to us what you wagered
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: and on what please?
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I went on the triple spot. I went nine to
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: oh one. Make it interesting, But I don't know if
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: by I think, yeah, that works math wise. I think
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: nine hundred also would have worked mathwise if you would
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: have run the true.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: So here's how this is gonna work. You both picked
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: the same category. I'm not gonna make you buzz in
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: or anything like that. Instead, I'm gonna give you another
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: fifteen seconds after I read the question to send me
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: your answer, and once I've received both of your answers
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: in the fifteen seconds are up, I'll reveal who won
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: and by how much. Here's your question, both of you.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: On Percy Jackson and Greek mythology, the blood kind Cyclops
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: polyphemus plays a significant role in the Percy Jackson novel
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: The Sea of Monsters. But in Greek myth, what is
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: the name of the Greek hero who was responsible for
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: blinding Polyphemus. I have both your answers. We're gonna start
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: with Matt. Matt, you wagered one hundred on the triple category.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: If you're right, you will go up to four hundred.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: If you are wrong, you will go down to zero.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: I'm going to make things even more exciting and tell
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: you that you've both given me different Matt for four
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: hundred points. What did you answer, I said Hercules. Hercules
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: is incorrect. Ah, so I have to take your hundred
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: points away. You end the game on nothing. You've been
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: real fun to have around. Audrey. You wagered nine hundred
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: and one points on the triple category. What did you say?
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: I said, Jason, and that is incorrect?
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Oh was it?
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Sorry?
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: You end the game on one hundred and ninety nine
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: points to Matt zero, which means Audre is our winner.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Congratulations forgetting who killed the cyclops? Does take a little
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: bit of the shine off of my victory.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: It's wonders, Audrey. Yeah, the correct answer was Odysseus. Oheus
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: was the hero who blinded Polyphemus. But congratulations Audrey, you've won,
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: and in really exciting fashion.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: Yes, very well done.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Yes, it's all tied up. Absolutely well done. Well, thanks
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: so much for having me.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Yes, thank you so much. This was incredibly fun.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Thank you, Aaron.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: I look forward to bringing more Hi Jenks and crazy
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: games as the months go on. I'm really looking forward
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: to my next outing, which I promise is going to
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: be even more psychotic. Thank you.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: We would not have it any other way. Thank you
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: so much.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Thanks Aaron.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Ah Ru ah Ru.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: Well, my confidence is shattered, as it should be. The
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: day is ruined.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: We are now tied.
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: And it's one all. I suppose that's fair at this
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: early stage of the it.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: Had to happen. It's going to happen. It's going to happen.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: We're too equally matched.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: We are we are. Thanks for preparing another wonderful game, Aaron. Absolutely,
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: that was such a fun time. Thanks Aaron. If you've
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: not read Thane, if you've not listened to Thane, absolutely
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: do that.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: And we have even more incredible games coming up.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: Yes we do.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: We have Jackie Chan. That episode we are.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: We are doing. We have Jackie Chan. We have Jackie
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Chan live in the studio. We will only release him
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: of demands. Free Jackie. Yes, we have recorded a Jackie
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: Chan fandemonium and that will be with you next week,
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: I believe next week. Yeah. That was such a fun time,
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: such a fun episode for a beloved set of films
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: for sure.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: So many that I had forgotten about. Yeah, and then remembered, like,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: oh my gosh, I remember I Yes.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll peek behind the screen. We recorded that on
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Inauguration Day and boy did I need it.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Oh, I needed the community. It was as joyous as
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: I needed it to be. We also have some other
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: exciting things coming up in live episode news.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: Yes, other than our live theater show on May twenty fourth,
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: which will be Star Wars themed. Yes, sometime in March,
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: probably early March. We are going to do another live stream,
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: just like we did for the Pokemon live stream that
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: we did towards the end of last year. We are
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: going to do a James Bond episode live.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: Yes, last live episode. I loved hanging out with everyone
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and seeing everyone engage in the chat and pick me
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: as the winner for some of the questions.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: You just love the feedback and validation.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: Yes, I love it and there is nothing wrong with that.

- 1:10:43Speaker 2: Last month, Drew and Jason looked at Super Mario Brothers,
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: the first video game adaptation movie, and they're chronologically making
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: their way through the history of video game movies on
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: press Play and so next up is Double Dragon, which
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: I'll be honest, I know nothing about, So I'm going
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: to need this episode.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Yes, I know nothing about, but I've heard people talk
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: about Double Dragon recently. Okay, they aren't Drew and Jason,
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: so I'm thinking that this one is relevant and we
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: need to know what they're gonna say.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Eck and yes all, yes to all of that. Yeah.
