- 0:02SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the Father's Business Devotional Podcast, which flows from the heart of Sylvia Gunter and her deep desire to help people know God.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: May God quiet your spirit and soul, draw you close to the Father's heart, and anchor you in the unshakable truth that you are deeply loved and securely held.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Maybe you feel that God promised you something and it has been too long in coming.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe you're feeling desperate and even despairing.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Hope deferred makes the heart sick.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: It often happens when it's set on our expectations in our time frame.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: You ask why, Lord?
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: Where is it?
- 0:44SPEAKER_01: What's going on?
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Why are you so silent?
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: You've examined your heart to see if there's any sin in your life, you've bargained and pleaded, maybe even pouted a little.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: It seems that God is far away and the heavens are like brass.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: David knew that taking up his harp in the midst of pain connected him with God in a special and deep way.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: In Psalm forty two and forty three, ten times he asked why.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Two times he asked where and once he asked when.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: He described abandonment, oppression, betrayal, and accusation at the hands of wicked men.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: In two short psalms he recorded a range of intense conflicting emotions, thirst and satisfaction, fear and courage, doubt and faith, dejection and hope, despair and assurance of blessing, disturbance and peace, impatience and resolve, pouting and praise, tears and singing, accusation and vindication, rejection and confidence, weakness and strength, darkness and light, oppression and deliverance, mourning and joy.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Amid all of that David heard God's song in the night and sang prayer hymns or prayers set to music.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Four times in sixteen verses he broke into praise and thanksgiving.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God, I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: The word yet means continuance, again, repeatedly, still more all lifelong.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Regardless of his circumstances, David was devoted to praising the Lord.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: In another psalm he said that his heart was fixed and steadfast, making music and praising God for his great love which never changed.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: With sacrifices of worship, we come before him in spirit and in truth.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: In the presence of the King of glory we enjoy his matchless power and care.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: The real heart of intercessory worship is seeking his face, then seeking his heart, not seeking his hand or the results that we are so desperate to see.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Intercessory worship employs the name of God to attract the presence and power of God into a time and place for particular people.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: I have seen God do amazing things in response to praise and worship where I simply exalted him as God by faith and let him be God.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Intercessory worship is faith in action.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: We know the character of the one who is faithful.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Intercessory worship is as simple as singing He is Lord, which declares the authority of the rule of Jesus in all things.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Intercessory worship praises God even when the situation doesn't change immediately, because he places his presence in our hearts in his promises, his vision, and his purposes.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: And we choose that we will yet praise him for his answer that he will bring forth in his appointed time.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Take a moment to think of the things coming against you.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Let's join together in worship and praise over who God is and who we are in him in the midst of those things.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: So imagine the mountains that feel too high to climb before you, and before those things that seem impossible or the prayers that are not being answered, we are going to declare who God is and who we are in Him.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: God, you are able, and I will stand.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: God, you are above all, and I am a citizen of heaven.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: God, you are the amen, the faithful and true witness, ruler of God's creation, and I am steadfast in you.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: God, you are the banner to your people, and I am under the banner of your love.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: God, you are the creator of the ends of the earth who cares for your creation, and I am cared for with compassion.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: God, you are a God of love and peace, and you lavish me with your love.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: You are the God who hears, and I am heard.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: You are the quieter of the storm, and I am quieted with your love, and you are my shelter, and I am safe.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Continue to declare to God who He is and who you are in Him in the midst of the storms and the struggles of life that you face today.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: This devotional is taken from Living in His Presence, Volume 2 by Sylvia Gunter.
